Laptop is stopping internet from working on all devices

Q: Laptop is stopping internet from working on all devices

I have two laptops, a tablet and smartphone which are all connected to my home wireless. When I use my laptop (Acer - Windows 7), the internet runs really slow and web pages keep timing out. This happens whether I use Chrome or Firefox. The internet also stops working completely on all other devices. As soon as I shut down the Acer laptop, the internet works on the other devices fine.
A couple of weeks ago I downloaded Bit Torrent software on the Acer laptop and this is when the problem started so I unistalled the software after a couple of days. I had McAfee antivirus software and Malwarebytes anti-malware at the time. I have unistalled McAfee and installed Avast Antivirus today and run full system scans with both Avast and Malwarebytes and they are not detecting anything.
The hard drive on my laptop is fully defragmented and has plenty of memory available. I also had Hola VPN add-on installed but I have unistalled this today too and this hasn't helped the problem. I recently installed Google Drive backup but have limited both the upload and download speed to 100kbps so I don't think this could be causing the problem.
I've tried restarting the laptop, resetting the modem and connecting to the internet via ethernet cable and none of these help either.
Any ideas of what else I could try? My husband and I both work online so need to use both laptops so this is really messing us up! Thanks in advance for any advice.

A: Laptop is stopping internet from working on all devices

Hello, and welcome

I would reset Winsock and TCP/IP. Type CMD in the search box and right click > Run as Administrator. Type the following commands.

netsh winsock reset
netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt
I would also open Windows Firewall and remove any program you do not want connecting to the internet.

Hey,
recently when I've been playing audio, or playing games my monitor has suddenly gone black and the audio silent. Everything inside the PC is still running, fans etc, but there is no power to the CD Drive and the router shows my PC as disconnected from it. An LED on the motherboard also blinks a bit. Basically once this happens I cannot reset my PC, I have to hold the power in for 4 seconds or disconnect at the wall socket.

My CPU has hit some high temperatures recently (80 Deg C) I've managed to get it to a respectable 49 ish by removing the case and adding another fan. Ive tried changing the IRQ channels on my system, since Sound and Graphics were sharing, but I'm still getting this same problem.

In the Windows XP Event Viewer I see ati2mtag.sys appears everytime the problem occurs.

Any ideas? This is driving me mad Ive tried swapping to a 550 watt PSU, to no avail

A:Devices Stopping - GA 7ZMMH

Well...The file in Event Viewer refers to your video card. However as pointed out at the NVIDIA web site in their troubleshooting section, many crashes are erroneously attributed to the video card since it is always running when something goes wrong. It also seems odd that a video crash would cause you to lose power to other components unless perhaps something is physically wrong with the card. The LED on the MB shows power is going to the board so maybe the blinking means that something is shorting.

WinXP does a pretty good job of sharing resources so that's usually not a problem.

Still try updating the drivers to your card. If there is a fan on the card make sure that it is clean and running. Try reseating the video card.

If the problem continues it's probably worth trying a different video card (if one isn't available a cheap PCI card will work).

I have 5 usb devices hooked to my notebook via a usb hub. I often take the notebook with me so have to disconnect the hub. Is there some way to disconnect the usb hub, thus closing all of the usb devices hooked to it? Right now I am clicking to close the thumb drive, the hard drive, etc.

A:Stopping all usb devices with one click

The default "removal policy" for external drives in Windows is "Quick Removal" which means
you do not have to use the removal icon.

Provided the drive activity light is not flashing on any of the drives, just unplug the hub. I do that regularly with my four externals & they have come to no harm. The important thing is to check the drive's activity light first.

I have this problem with my new Asus A53S - K53SD laptop. The intergrated bluetooth doesn't seem to work. When i try to add a bluetooth device under devices and printers in control panel, it just keeps saying "Searching for devices... Make sure your device is discoverable".I found out that it didn't work, because i just bought a new microsoft notebook Bluetooth mouse 5000, and when i try to install/connect it to my computer, windows just can't find the device. I know it's not my new mouse that isn't working, because i have tried connecting other bluetooth devices aswell, but windows still can't find anything. I have both a Intel Bluetooth driver and an Atheros bluetooth driver (V7.4.0.115) installed. Both downloaded from the Asus support website.I have tried reinstalling both programs a lot of times, and i have runned a lot of different driver update programs, to check if i was using the latest versions or missing any drivers. I have spent a lot of time browsing the web to find a solution to my problem, but none of the suggested solutions have worked.

Here's how it looks:

A:Intergrated bluetooth not working on laptop. Can't find any devices.

If it's a Microsoft mouse; drivers shouldn't be a problem. I would remove all mouse drivers. Then reboot and Windows 7 should pickup the needed drivers. Then do a Windows 7 Up Date and it will let you know if their is a update for the driver.

Hi all,

A few days ago, bluetooth devices stopped being recognised on my Windows 7 Samsung NP300V5A-A05UK laptop. There have been no windows updates since then, and I have tried numerous suggestions I have found online without any success. Bluetooth is not showing in Control Panel or Device Manager. If I use msconfig it says bluetooth is running. I have reinstalled drivers. I have used the 'Services' option to ensure that the Bluetooth Support Service is running. There is no bluetooth icon showing in the 'notification area' and if I click customize, Windows Host Process Rundll32 (bluetooth) is showing but says 'this notification icon is not currently active'.

I use bluetooth to connect my hifi to my laptop - normally when I go into the 'Sound Playback' menu it lists my laptop speakers and also lists 'bluetooth headphones' which is my hifi. But this does not show any more.

**Further info - looking in Device Manager it lists Bluetooth Auxilliary (with Bluetooth Server nested below that) and also lists Bluetooth Radio with 'Intel Centrino Wireless Bluetooth and 3.0 and high speed adapter' and 'Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator' nested below. All of these are enabled, and when I go to properties, say they are working properly. Also, I thought that it was an Atheros Bluetooth Client that my laptop used - if I go to 'add/remove programs' then I can see the 'Atheros Client Installation Program' is there.

After a few days of frustration, any advice gratefull... Read more

Last week I tried to install a new router that was given to me that had 802.11n (currently only have b and g) however after alot of fiddling I realised the router was for cabled internet and we have adsl so it wasn't compatible. It popped the old router back with all the same settings and everything was fine for a few days....

Then after no apparent reason my laptop decided to have painfully slow internet (measured at 0.06mbps...). I don't understand because other laptops, phones and an iPad that use the wifi and one wired PC are all working fine.

At first whenever I would turn the laptop on and it would connect to the Wifi it would kill the internet for the other wireless devices. I could only regain the internet on these devices if I turned them off and then reset the router and then turned them back on when the router had reset itself.

After doing a bit of reading on here I tried to see if changing the secruity from WPA2 to WPA-TKIP would help. With WPA now enabled it now no longer means that the Internet gets killed on other devices once the laptop connects. But the internet on them does become slower. The internet on the laptop improves sliiiiightly (with WPA) but is still not at the speed it was at previous to it messing up.

I have also tried, cleaning up the laptop, disk defragmentation, looking for faults with the wifi adapter (it says there are none), restoring the laptop to a time when it worked....

I tried doing:
Command promt:
ipconfig /flushdns

SOLUTION: In typical techie fashion as soon as i ask for help I solve the problem. I did crtl + r -> ncpa.cpl -> properties -> configure -> advanced -> network access -> Type in the unique address seen for the network adapter when ipconfig is run, type it without dashes. This worked immediately.

My PC is Windows 8.1 and it hasn't had internet issues before. Last night it stopped connecting to the internet. This morning is has been the same. Wireless connections are working fine but my desktop doesn't have a wireless card so i need to fix the wired issue with it.

I've tried the ethernet cable on other devices and they work, so i think it must be PC settings. I PC restored to last night 7pm and it didn't fix it. I've tried ipconfig /release and /renew and it didn't work. I've tried uninstalling AVG and turning off firewalls. I still am getting the yellow triangle with "no internet access"

IPv4 Address 192.168.0.7
Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway 192.168.0.1

I've tried updating network card drivers and disabling and re-enabling it. Anyone able to help please?

Cheers,
Xander

Hi guys hope you can help,

I am having a problem with the devices on my home wireless network. There is a laptop, desktop, PS3 and an Ipod all of which access the internet through the wireless network, a few days ago however I was unable to connect to the internet with the desktop. It had been fine all day but then I left it and came back to it an hour or so later and was unable to get back online after having tried all the usual restarting of devices. I gave up and went to have a quick game on the ps3 to take my mind off all the work i was now unable to do and found that that too had lost its connection to the internet (also was fine earlier) checked my Ipod touch to see if that had access and neither did that, but in the background the girlfriend was obliviously typing away on facebook or something with no problems at all.

The next day all was well again everything had access to the internet so I just forgot about it and carried on with my life (as you do). However the day after that I had exactly the same thing again, I was using the PS3 online no problems. Girlfriend comes in and turns her laptop on so I disappear onto the PC to do some work and no internet connection again, check the PS3 and Ipod, also no connection only my girlfriends laptop is fine.

So....it seems to me, in my limited wisdom in such matters that, if I turn my desktop on first (before girlfriends laptop) and connect to the internet then all is well, but if she gets to the internet first then thats i... Read more

I am having an issue that has been an on and off problem for the past month. I currently am using a browser called torch which is a chrome style browser. But my main browser is firefox. Whenever firefox is open I cannot browse the web and when I try web pages do not load on any browser that I try to use, although I am able to use both ipads that are in the house and any applications/programs works fine with the internet. But ones I close firefox all other web browsers on my laptop work fine. What could potentially cause this and what other details could I include that would be more helpful to you guys thanks in advance I have already attempted to restart my modem several times.

This may be a conflict between browsers, but first: have you updated Firefox recently? Or do you have it set to update automatically?

This might help, it's from FF Help pages:
Fix slowness, crashing, error messages and other problems | Firefox Help

Scroll down to "Fix problems connecting to Websites after updating Firefox."

Using the FF Help can give you great assistance. (Menu Bar, top left in FF, click "Help".)

Hey there,

Have been having this problem for a while. I'll try to make a long story short. I'm on a personal build computer running x58 chipset. Originally installed Windows 7. Have upgraded to 8, 8.1, 10, and then 10 anniversary addition.

The problems started once I upgraded to Windows 10.

When the computer goes idle for the day (leave for work, come home later in the day) the desktop, which is connected via ethernet, has lost it's connection and will only come back after a reboot. Troubleshooting doesn't work, and trying to disable and re-enable the NIC card doesn't work.

Once the desktop loses its connection, every device that is connected via wifi will show that it is connected, but will not load anything. As soon as I reboot the desktop, everything works fine. I DO NOT need to reboot the modem or router.

I have searched over and over and over, and have determined it is not a modem problem(comcast eMTA, in bridge mode), or a router problem (Asus RT-AC68P) so it must be a driver problem for my NIC card. I cannot for the life of me find a Marvell Yukon 88E8056 windows 10 supported driver to see if that is the issue. Maybe there are settings in the NIC card properties I need to change?

Any help would be appreciated.

So as of last night, my laptop has been having connection issues using the same wi-fi that I've been using for months.
My internet is part of my rent with the building I live in, but have never had an issue before this.

Most* websites will load instantly, or within a second, unless there are images or videos on the page.
However, all videos, images, and online games are nearly unresponsive. Videos on youtube immediately drop to the lowest quality, and will take a very long time to load fully (up to 30 minutes for a 5 minute video). Images also load incredibly slowly.
I've tried to do a speed test, but the test fails after the ping check due to lack of a connection.

All my other devices are perfectly fine, including phone, tablet, multiple gaming systems. Netflix on my PS3 also has absolutely no issues loading quickly with high quality. My friend's laptop, when using the same connection, seems to have full and proper speeds.

I've looked around on this forum at similar posts, and have already re-installed my wireless drivers. The problem persists.

Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated!
EDIT: Speedtest finally worked

As far as I know there is not much support for the configuration you are trying to set up although I would think the best chance is using the Virtual Router software or the directions in the link> http://lifehacker.com/5369381/turn-y...reless-hotspot

It may require using static IP's on the IPv4 properties interface but some experimenting may be required.

I wanted to share my ethernet internet connection over wifi so I have created a wifi hotspot on my laptop using "NETSH" commands in cmd prompt.
I have enabled sharing of ethernet connection by going to ethernet properties>>sharing>>check box (Allow other network users to connect through this computer) but the internet is not being shared.
I have configured other devices with static IPs. Gateway and subnet mask is also correct. I am also using different IPs of the same subnet.
Everything was working fine until perhaps I tried installing Connectify software, I uninstalled it later.

Hi all,
I have a rather perplexing problem with internet access from my laptop (Win 7 Home Premium, Avast Free). My property is a large building with thick, granite walls so I've added 3 hard-wired, wireless access points (2 recycled, old routers and a TP-Link WAP) in various locations back to the main router (BT Homehub 3), served by up-to 8Mbps BT broadband service (I typically get 6Mbps - no fibre-broadband available here!) Just to complicate things a little more, this is a holiday property with 4 other families staying, so bandwidth use is a little difficult to control.
Mostly, everyone has been fine: my Android phone, my Nexus tablet and my wife's iPad plus other visitors' various devices all connect via wifi from any of the access points. (Everyone had problems this morning but I think BT may have been doing something with the exchange overnight so I'm going to assume, for now, it's just my laptop that's having problems).
OK, the laptop will connect to any access point, including the main router, but generally states "No internet access" from there. I say "generally" because it has done on past visits to the property and sometimes connects briefly - usually if I reset, disconnect or unplug something. Also, I CAN connect the laptop via Ethernet from any point.
Can someone outline a process I can try to identify and fix the laptop please? If problems recur with other kit I may need help with my local network too.
Thanks,

So I removed it and I've started using Avira Antivir, but the same thing is happening. Could it be some hidden malware that's stopping these programs from doing their jobs? Any help would be appreciated.

I have a Dell Inspiron 530. It has 2GB of RAM installed on it. I just bought another stick of RAM to get it up to 3GB.

However, when I put it in, it does not boot, and when i take it out, it boots fine as always. So I figured that I would start the computer and then put the RAM in, when that happened, the screen went black and the internal speaker started going (1-1-1-1-1) I tried looking this up for BIOS beeps but found nothing for Dell.

Not sure what to do at this point to get the RAM to work in my computer.

Any help is appreciated. Look at my system specs if you need them.

EDIT: I suppose I bought the wrong RAM. I tested all 4 sticks of RAM in my computer and the one I just bought is the culprit. Its Kingston, the same as the last one I got however i noticed that the actual RAM stick was smaller (not lengthwise but wide-wise) I am assuming that it would be for different motherboards or mhz etc.

I also paid $35 for it. Can someone recommend 1GB ddr2 for my computer? I'll buy it off newegg at a cheaper price, just not sure what I need. Last one I got was from WalMart and it worked fine haha.

Problem!! AVG is only an antivirus, while the other is a suite, both AV and Firewall! Read the help to determine how to configure but you need to let TCP/IP and NETBUEI through!!

Goods Luck

Sadly I don't use either of those 2 but the one I use, after the reboot walks you through a "Setup Wizard" Much easaier !!

Hi,My sound just stop......I was given this Think Pad T400 and they upgraded from Windows Vista to Windows 7 on my T400. The BIOS version Installed is 3.24 I have read several forums and I have unstalled an reinstalled the Conexant drivers. Windows is saying the sound card is working but when I click on a Music file, the file is actually loaded and played by mediaplayer, but there was no sound out of the speakers. the speakers were working then just stop. I saw this on a old post-Well, now I made a BIOS downgrade to 2.12-1.01 and guess what. After a reboot I now have working sound on the T400. Can´t be I thought. Back to 3.01 and sound vanished again.Could this be my problme too and if so where can I find this old BIOS Version?

Hi,

I have McAfee Virus scan and it keeps stopping on the same file. The file is c:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386\triedit.dll

Does anyone know why this might be happening and what I can do to fix it?

Please help

A:Problem stopping virus scan from working

I would go there and check that the file in question at
C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386
is File version 6.1.0.9227 from microsoft.
If so , just add that file to the excluded from scans in mcafee or exempt the whole folder for now.

Most likely there is a problem with one of mcafees signature files which will be fixed in the next update.

Please tell me what this sign is and how to fix it.

Hello Peter Hurry and welcome to the forums

I'm not sure exactly what it means, but I know how to fix it

Are you running IE? If so, can you open Internet Options, then go to the Advanced tab, then click on Reset. This will reset all internet explorer settings.

Secondly, have you got Adobe flash player installed?

Hi. I run XP and I'm having really frustrating problems with code 12. I've only just found out that it was my system and not the actual drive, I even bought a brand new DVD drive before I checked this out just to make sure.

I go into device manager and next to primary and secondary IDE drives and it shows an exclamation mark. I double click and it says...

"This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. (Code 12)

If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on this system."

How do I fix this? Is it just a case of disabling something? I'm really confused as to what caused this because I've not made any changes recently.

Thanks,
James.

I read a former post about this - it referenced a older post about indexing and saw this at the bottom in the form of an update
Run > services.msc > find Windows Search > right click to select properties >

When I looked at WINDOWES SEARCH here is says STOPPING and when I clicked on properties the area that appears to be where you can change this is grayed out (STAT STOPE PAUSE RESUME) cannot be clicked

It is also not working from the blue screen where I can click on Apps/Files/Settings - )Sorry do not know the name of these new screens or locations)
P.S. The new post the referenced INDEXING....I looked at that post but unfortunately I have not idea what indexing is and how to resolve any problems with it
Can someone help me work through this or should I post a new thread

A:Search Function not working-Services (local) says STOPPING

After looking at the screen shots in the referenced post. I just went to the search function again - I tried it clicking on COMPUTER and the SEARCH did work but it did indicate across the top that it might be slow because the INDEX is not running.

1. Why cant I click on LIBRARIES or MY DOCS and try to search
2. How do I turn on indexing or get it to run

I recently opened my Aula Ghost Shark gaming mouse, and it didn't work at first. Later, after being plugged in for quite some time, idle, it started working. After not too long, the mouse suddenly moved down and left regardless of input, and would only move slightly before jutting back to my start button (not locking to it, just moving to the corner). After trying some more fixes, such as System Restore, Troubleshooter, and disabling/enabling the mouse with the Control Panel in and out of Safe Mode, I realized this:

My mouse will work (occasionally, but certainly not guaranteed by simply turning the mouse driver on and off), but only on what seems to be a timer. It will work, then move down and left harshly, then stop. I assume it stops because it does at times when I start the computer, I can't see it at the bottom left of my screen.

Any help is very much appreciated and I'm happy to answer any questions to help clarify what my situation is!

After a complete cleaning the fan and replacing the thermal grease I noticed that when the computer starts the fan is stopped for some minutes.

It starts but priodically stops again. Is it normal this situation???

Sometimes even the temperature goes up, the fan keeps stopped. I checked if the fan stacks but it seems to rotate freely (not have the symptom of stack shaft)!!!

Keep in your mind that the OS is Windows 7 installed long time ago. Before the cleaning and replascing the thermal grease, the computer hanged usually within 15 minutes terminatting with a BSOD. Note that HDD is checked for bad sectors and now is in fine condition after a regeneration (with HDD Reganerator)!

Is there any hypothetic case the OS to do not control the fan correctly???

What is your experience about this symptoms???

Anybody can help please????

Hi,

I recently tried to install some software that i'd downloaded from a dubious source and it was soon apparent there were nasties hiding in it ready to attack my machine. I know this because Mcaffee Total Protection told me as much when i ran the exe. I assumed that McAffee had done it's job. To make matters worse i did this a further two times with similarly dubious software with the same result. duh

Soon after, links in google results (under internet explorer 8.0)have been re-directing me to dodgy looking sites rather than the one it was pointing and this alerted me that something wasn't quite right. Another syptom was mcaffee telling me a couple of processes were trying to make changes or communicate over the internet (can't remember exactly). To rectify this i renamed them (as i was denied the ability to delete them). Another strange occurunce that i noticed was that under the start menu there was an application highlighted as if it had just been installed. Strange thing was that it was 'Remote desktop Connection' under Accessories. I checked Add remove programs (or whatever it's called now) and there was no indication that this had just been installed..

At this point i figured i needed to take action. As an initial step i ran a virus scan which found nothing then attempted to run system recovery only to find that it had been disabled (not by me) and i was unable to start it going again.. After a lot of forced reboots (holding in power b... Read more

Hi. I have been having a problem with my browsers hanging, also my downloads stop and streaming video stops as well. I have cleaned my system and found some malware in a google chrome add on. I ran advanced system care 5, my mcafee virus scan, and malwarebytes and believe I have my system is clean as a whistle. I am only running mozilla firefox right now, but I plan on downloading I.E. again so i can continue to get my windows updates. I just can't seem to figure out what is making all of my browsers hang, not download and stop on streaming video.. . I am running windows vista 32 bit. I have a linksys router and am running on roadrunner dsl. I have already figured out that it isn't either the router or modem thats the problem. I can run other computers just fine. I am hooked up with a ethernet wire, but my laptop and ps3 have no issues with wireless.. Also when i connect this computer straight to the modem there is still a problem, which causes me to think that its my pc. Any help and or suggestions would be great. Thanks

Hello,

This is my first time, here. I'm not a computer expert by any stretch of the imagination, and I'm having a problem that is driving me crazy.

Whenever I reboot my computer (an Emachines T6216), I go online (broadband connection) and after a few moments, I lose the connection and the only way to get it back is to reboot, again. Usually, I have to do this 3-4 times before the connection will stay. The computer is connected to a router box, as I have two computers hooked up; the second computer, and older HP laptop never has this problem, it works flawlessly.

And this problem happens, regardless of using Firefox or Explorer.

I also should mention that I never had this problem, previously. The computer was hooked up to broadband from the time of it's purchase in 2/05, until last June, then reconnected in December. Now, the one concern I have, is that during the time it was not connected to broadband, we were staying at a place that had only phone connections, and we did have it hooked into dial-up for that time with AOL, so I don't know if something in the AOL system caused this or not. I've tried to uninstall everything AOL that I could find, just in case. Also, and again I don't know if this is related, but when hooked up via dial-up, every so often (while online I should add), the computer would completely reboot, out of the blue.

Any help or info would be greatly appreciated, as this is got me baffled.

Thanks for your help!
Mike

Hi everyone

All of a sudden over the past day and a bit my internet seems to keep cutting out every 10 mins, when i unplug my router and start it up again it works?

(my router is a netgear RP614 my modem is a D link DSL 300T)

this is really bugging me, if anybody could help me solve it I would be very greatful

I can post any extra stuff you may need to help diagnose my problem

Thanks everyone

A:Internet Keeps stopping

Is this a wired or wireless connection.
If wireless, change the wireless channel through the router's wireless section.1/6/11 in the US are preferred.
If no joy there, hardwire directly to the modem and see if the problem persists. This will require a modem power on reset(power off the modem for at least 30 seconds, then power on and wait for the modem lights to settle.
Has anything changed in your environment?Hardware/software ?

Did you install the chipset and networking drivers? Chipset and drivers for integrated networking cards should come from your PC manufacturer's web site (or Resource/Drivers disk if you have one).

Check Device Manager to see if you have any missing drivers.

My 6400 laptop will not go to any internet sites. My settings including DHCP are normal, and there are no error message, but every single website I go to times out.
The Network Diagnostics tool says my computer is configured correctly, but the device or resource is not responding. When running the tool on Wi-Fi, it also says there’s a problem with the wireless adapter or access point, but I’m confident there is no problem. I tried ipconfig/release /renew /flushdns, and none of that worked. When pinging any address, I get 4 general failures. I tried using my own wired and wireless networks as well as a Starbucks Wi-Fi and my laptop still refuses to connect to any sites. Lastly, I installed new drivers and not only did that not work, the Network Diagnostics tool says it can’t identify the problem.
Any ideas?

Let's see this from the non working laptop ;
This will allow us to do further diagnosis.
Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista or 7 type CMD in the Search box after Start)

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.

Somehow, somewhere I have picked up a nasty bug of sorts. About 75% of the time I select something from an engine such as Yahoo or Google, I am redirected to someother site -- usually having something to do with saving money or buying something. I am running Windows 7, using IE 9. At the time I was running the free version of AVG for virus protection. I installed Avira and ran a full scan, it found 7 things and I grabbed them, then I ran spybot through safe mode and it grabbed a few more things. Its still happening. Short from just formatting and reloading, is there anything that I can try? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!Edit: Moved topic from Web Browsing/Email and Other Internet Applications to the more appropriate forum. ~ Animal

I was just reading Rocherz post about when downloading or having multiple internet tasks running the Internet connection stops also. I seem to have the same issue. I will be streaming a movie or a video, I will pause it so it can stream completely, while doing so I will start another stream of video or read email etc. then it seems my connection cuts off too. My Modem will show that there is no "receiving" but the sending and online lights are still on.
I thought maybe it was the speed of my connection so I called and upgraded my speeds today from my provider but it still happened. It gets frustrating cause I will be watching something and it just stops, it says I cannot continue to view it cause I am not connected to the net and it says to check my Internet connection. My email or whatever else I am doing will still be working. OR, I will have streamed the whole video ( the little bar below the viewing screen shows that it has completed) and then all of a sudden it starts to buffer and will not start up the video again. I am trying to figure out why this is happening, does anyone have any ideas?

I suspect something is up here. I have many svchost.exe's running. I'm wondering if that's normal? When I tried shutting down one or more of the svchosts, I got that dreaded shutdown message. The one about the Windows NT RPC procedure. I believe that's associated with the Sasser and/or Blaster worm, though my system is clean from either one. Any ideas? My firewall, ZoneAlarm Pro, has blocked 840 access attempts. Is that normal, or is someone really trying to gain access to my system?

The setup that I have running is an NTL250 cable modem connected to a Belkin 4-port firewall/broadband router (Model: F5D5230-4) which is used by my office PC's, which include the following:

(1) Desktop PC - Compaq EVO D310
OS: Windows 2000 Professional (SP4)RAM: 500MbHDD1: 40GbHDD2: 120GbHDD3(USB): 160Gb
(2) Laptop - Toshiba Satellite Pro L20
OS: Windows XP Professional (SP2)RAM: 1GbHDD1: 60Gb
I do have two other computers, but they're rarely used and not applicable to this problem.

During typical use, I have no problems, but whenever I connect to www.myspace.com and visit a band space or switch on uTorrent (for legal purposes) on the desktop PC, within a few minutes, the Internet connection drops out. If I connect the desktop PC direct to the NTL modem (bypassing the router) the connection is fine ... all fingers point at the router.

Does anyone know how or where (etc) I can start to find out the exact cause and how to fix it?

Hey, need a bit of help. My laptop is new (got it for Christmas) and ever since I have loaded it up it has been constantly disconnecting me from the internet every 15-20 minutes, even though it says I am still connected to the router, it just won't give me internet access. I know it is not my router at fault as my parent's laptop, which runs windows 7, stays connected and so does my iPhone, I'm not sure the problem is, please help?!

A:Internet stopping after 15-20 mins!!

Your router may need an updated driver or updated firmware to be good to go with 8. Similar problems also can be associate with AV software often installed at the factory. Suspects include Norton and McAfee. Personally, I would uninstall either on general principles. An uninstaller is available on the Norton site.

Hello. I recently got one of those "click here your computer is infected" malwares. I ran spybots S&D, Malwarebytes, avast boot, kapersky rescue cd, antivir boot and sophos antirootkit. I think Malwarebytes and avast cleaned up everything but I believe damage was done. My internet wirelessly connects and gets full rights, ip and everything it needs to connect yet when I try to navigate in my browser nothing happens. I have uninstalled and reinstalled browsers with no change. I also used the xp cd to do a repair with no change. It works fine with ubuntu so its not hardware so it must be windows. I need some help resolving this issue. I have attached my hijackthis log and startuplog. Please let me know if any further information is requiredLogfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2

My laptop indicates that it is connected to our modem and that it has "Internet Access". However, I can't use the Internet on any of my browsers. I've tried turning my Wi-Fi on and off, and that did not do anything. I also tried restarting my laptop and the modem, but that did not do anything either. I checked the Device Manager to see if the NIC was working properly. That said it was working just fine. Unless it's lying to me. I connected an Ethernet cable to my laptop, but I still could not get onto the Internet. I ran my computer in safe mode with networking with an ethernet cable but still could not get to the Internet. I have no idea what the problem is.
Could someone please help me out here?

I can connect to the internet wireless but my daughter is unable to connect with her laptop. She is showing that she is connected but when she tries to click on the internet explorer it tells her that the Internet Explorere cannot display the webpage. I am not too computer sauvy and I know that the internet is working could you give me any instruction to get her back online? Thanks.

A:Internet working but second laptop not connecting

First we have to find out what's wrong. For an attempted connection please show ...

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista or 7 type CMD in the Search box after Start)

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

Hello

***UPDATE***
Antivirus pro 2008 just installed when i was away from my computer please help me remove this crap.

I am having a problem. My internet browser keeps on stopping every few minutes.Basically ads pop up when I go on the internet and after a little bit when i start up my internet browser the page is blank white and any page I type in is blank white.

I have a feeling it is multiple things, I visited a link while doing some reference searching and I got to a page with Antivirus pro 2009.I looked around and removed it using programs like Malwarebytes and other ad/spyware programs but this one problem won't go away.I will also note that the internet connection it self still works its just the browsers that screw up firefox and IE

I tried a few things I had found on other forums and I have used the following programs I have been recommended Spywaredoctor but it isn't free and I don't trust it or rather I am just not sure about it.

Removal programs I have used:
----------------------------------
Malwarebytes
Adaware
Spybot
Smitfraud
Hijack this
AVG

and this problem just won't go away.I will post a hijack this file below cause I am out of ideas and I have no idea where the files for this are located whether it be in the registry or hidden somewhere.Any help would be appreciated.

I am using Windows Xp Professional, Dell laptop, service pack 2,P4

Hi, Welcome to TSG!!
Please close/disable all anti-virus and anti-malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of SDFix and make sure you are disconnected from the Internet after downloading the program but before extracting the files.
Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with SDFix and remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.
Remember to re-enable the protection again afterwards before connecting to the Internet.
Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
Restart your computer
After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually
Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear
Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter
Choose your usual account.

Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
It will remove any Trojan Serv... Read more

Hello my name is Derek and i've always been in charge of maintaining the health of the "Family Laptop". Recently my younger brother downloaded some malicius content by mistake thinking that because it was safe on his phone it was safe for the laptop. (Cool Roms.com) . I have read up on how their sofware is malicious and such and used all of the programs i could think of such as Malwarebytes, Malwayrebytes anti rootkit, Nortan, AVG, McAfee. (By the way which is the best?) Any ways they all turned up something here or there. Unknowing to myself about this i had my phone plugged in with usb to move some pictures. Also there have been many other malicious files andd things to go thru this laptop that have been previously removed.
Now after i have run all those nifty programs in three ways, safe mode, safe mode with networking, and in normal startup; the internet just is moving at a snails pace such as stopping but not actually stopping. I can do a speed test by ookla and in the start it'll take about 30 seconds flashing download before it starts and sometimes it'll stop mid and just hang out there before continuing on a few seconds later. We pay for 50 or so megabits per second internet speed. Our modem is bad and a bit faulty as it can a lot of times randomly start resetting itself indefinately until i unplug all the cables from it and leave it off for a bit or it will connect fast like it's supposed to but the catch is that it's fully connected, in it's little config using the ... Hello All

I have a Westell DSL router Model 6100.

The internet connection every so often (sometimes a couple of times per day) will be lost and will show Local Only and I am not able to be connected.
This modem shows four green lights when operating. When the connection is lost the green lights are still on. When I reset the modem by turning it off and then on at this point the power light is red and blinks to green and back to red. The connection will usually come back on given time.

Any ideas what is happening?

My internet has been lagging on and off for over a month now. I use firefox the most and when it happens I run CCleaner, and clear the entire history. Sometimes that will get the internet up and working again for a little bit but not always. I also will reset the router, but I'm pretty positive its not a router issue because we have a wireless network and my roomate's laptop has no connectivity issues. Because it doesn't seem to be a hardware issue, I'm assuming its malware or something along those lines. I've tried loading up multiple browsers to see if it's an issue that's just associated with firefox but the internet won't work on Opera or IE either. For good measure (and because I was desperate) I uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox, but as expected, that made no difference. What's odd is most of the time, even when I can't get any web-pages to load, my torrents will still run and I will still be connected to MSN messenger. I can also normally load mmorpgs and play relatively uninterrupted (I might lose my connection once in 2 hours of gaming).
I've run spybot S&D and cleared out what malware it found but the problem is still happening. I've run avast and found nothing suspicious. A while back (around the time this became an issue) my gmail seemed to have a virus. I didn't open anything suspicious but I loaded it up one day to see that it had sent a suspicious email to everyone in my address book.

Hello Dentoz, and welcome to Seven Forums.

It sounds like you may have more than one website (ex: Internet Explorer Gallery) set as your home pages. Double check using the tutorial below to see if you have more than one home page set for IE. If you do, then you could remove any that you don't want to open as your home page(s).Internet Explorer Home Page - Add or Change
The Internet Explorer Gallery is a Microsoft website that helps you to personalize your Internet Explorer for how you access your favorite content and services by providing pinned sites, add-ons, and tracking protection lists to download and install.

A:Torrents are stopping my Internet connections

How are you connecting to internet? Though a NAT router? Or just directly plugin a modem to your computer?

Torrents are know for bring some cheap network devices to their knees, as they spawn multiple simultaneous connections to many differents hosts. Try to limit the upload/download speed on the torrent client to something lower, and check if it goes well.

Hello,

I have a Compaq Presario laptop, fairly new got it in 2006. It has a built in wireless network card and also a connection for wired connection on the side. I use cable internet and use a home router for sending a wireless signal to the laptop. I also use the one of the pots from the same router to supply a wired connection to the desktop.

However I cannot get my laptop to connect to the internet if I plug in the rJ45 connection into the wired NIC and disable the wireless connection. It does detect the wired connection but when I try renewing the IP, it says "cannot renew IP, media disconnected" as if trying to renew the IP from the wireless connection which has been disabled.

Is there a way to tell the system to use the wired NIC instead of the wireless one?

Thank you

A:Laptop working with wirless internet but not through wired

It should do so automatically. Are you sure the cable you're using is good? Have you tried a different port on the router?
Let's see this for the laptop:

Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt:

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Hello guys

a very annoying problem I have eversince I got wireless internet in 2004. My internet just randomly stops working, mostly when I boot my laptop or when I get it out off standby. This is what happens:

I try to connect to my router, but Windows says "cannot connect to belkin54g" (SSID). The strange thing is, I had the same with my old Windows XP computer years ago, but back then I had a Linksys router. My current router is a Belking (no idea what model).

Also very weird is the fact that my internet monitor (I installed a Windows 7 desktop gadget) shows that the connection is being interrupted all the time. It goes from 33% signal strength to 100% in 3 seconds but after another 3 seconds the signal is lost and the gadget is displaying 0% signal strength. Though the LED on my router's WLAN is not red, nor are any other LED's colored red.

Can someone pleaaaaaaaaaaase help me out? I got this problem for years and years. I've also configured my network card not to go in standby modus whenever the laptop is in standby, this didn't work out the way I've hoped.

One more thing, once I am connected to the router and have access to the internet, there is no problem anymore and I can be online for like 1 month without rebooting or whatever. But sometimes when I reboot/come back out of standby it just doesn't work and I need to reboot again. Sometimes it still doesn't work after rebooting so I reboot again and then it is mostly working, but it is so *beep* annoying... Read more

Have you rebooted your wireless router recently?

Have you tried changing any of the broadcast channels? Maybe an electrical device is causing interference.

A:3G mobile internet not working on UK bought laptop

What does "The internet fails to start" mean?

Open a (black) Command Prompt window:
Hold the Windows logo key and press r; in the Run box type cmd and click on OK.

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

I just got a new dell laptop. When i turn on the computer, it says i am connected to a wireless network, and i have a full signal. however, when i click on internet explorer, nothing comes up-not even a system message, let alone a website. also, on the bottom toolbar, there is an icon of two little computers and it says "a network cable is unplugged". please help. i can't figure out what's wrong. thanks.

A:HELP!! new laptop and wireless network but no working internet!

Click Start, Control Panel then Network Connections. You should have a Wireless connection there. Double click it. Click View Wireless Networks and you should have a wireless network there. If not click refresh network list on the left. If you do have one shown click on advanced settings then wireless settings. Click on Advanced make sure Any Available Network is checked. If more that one wireless network is showing you have to move your Up to the first position. Also do you have Wep Or Wap enabled? If so you would have to enter the key. Also make sure you are close to your wireless router when doing this to rule out a weak signal.

I have an HP/Compaq laptop that is quite a few years old but has been working fine. It has stopped connecting to the internet although it will connect to my wireless network. The internet works and all other devices (my tablet, my phone, daughter's laptop, etc) all connect. The laptop started having troubles recently and would eventually connect to the internet if I rebooted a couple of times. However, I've been trying multiple times today and it still won't connect. I have Windows Vista and the repair function has not fixed it or diagnosed the error. Suggestions most welcome.

Well, a couple of months ago I posted this same issue on a Yahoo Answers thread, which I will paste here for time-saving purposes.

Internet gradually getting slower, any help?

I recently got Internet installed in my own room, and for the first couple of days, the speed was fine, great actually, considering the fact that I'm paying only a little over 200 pesos for it (approximately $20). Then suddenly, after a little over 2 weeks, the browsing speed started slowing down considerably, to the point that right now, I had to reload Yahoo Answers around 7 times just to be able to post this question, because I kept getting "the connection had timed out".

Odd thing is, download speed stayed the same. I managed to download some stuff from Megaupload and it was speedy as usual. Only browsing was affected, apparently.

Now, I'm pretty sure it's the computer itself, because I connected the Ethernet cable to my dad's laptop and the speed was just as good as the first few days on my computer. Also, I've been surfing (ohmyGod,youdontknowhowmuchofapainitwas) through the Internet trying to find common solutions, and I tried every single one. I scanned for viruses and Spyware with AVG and SuperAntiSpywarePro, deleted Cache, Temp files, used System Restore to a point before the problem, cleaned out all of my useless files (the speed's fine for anything except browsing anyway), used CCleaner, reset my router, used Windows' ... I did nothing to make it stop working. I was on the internet, stepped away, came back, and couldn't connect. I checked the online connection (by clicking the little icon in the bottom right part of the screen) and it came up with an error. I went to Device Manager, and there is a "!" next to LAN-Express IEEE 802.11 PCI Adapter. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver, but the "!" is still there.

Did the actual hardware break somehow? Is there anything I should do before bringing it back to where I bought it? I've only had it for a few months, and never before had a problem

I'm having problems using wired internet with a brand-new Toshiba Satellite L870-13L. The ethernet cable works fine when used with the other Mac computer in the house, but I've been unable to get any kind of internet connection on the laptop. The laptop recognises the cable when it is plugged in but when I check the status of the connection there doesn't seem to be an IP assigned to the computer.

The ethernet adapter is a Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller; I've tried installing the latest drivers but without any success. The adapter shows up in device manager without any alerts or exclamation marks, and I've tried disabling the wireless adapter to see if that helped any.

Though I'd pass this on. Several months ago, anytime I tried to play a video over the internet, they would keep stopping, re-buffering and starting again. To make a very long story short, I clicked on the tools icon and went to "manage add-ons"....I disabled Bing Map and Bing Translator (accellerators) and everything was back to normal. I guess the Bing components came with some software I must have loaded.

A:Internet Videos keep buffering - stopping & starting

Good find keepitsimple!

Some other causes of annoying buffering are:

Outdated Adobe Flash Player, Shockwave, or other player's software which should be updated.

Outdated Browser (Internet Explorer, Chrome and Firefox)

Too many programs running at one time.

Not enough system resources available (RAM)

A:could my virus protection be stopping me from connecting to internet

With computers anything is possible, but I'm doubting McAfee is keeping you from accessing the internet unless you are using multiple firewalls or antivirus programs. But the easiest way to find out is to remove McAfee and then see if it will connect. You didn't say if you were trying to connect with dialup or broadband.

Hi folks,
In the past few days, I have noticed that my internet connection has become unstable. When I stream internet radio, it will work fine for 10 min. Then there will be nothing but dead air for 30-60 sec.. Then the stream will continue again. While online gaming, my computer will stop communication with the servers for 10-30 seconds, start working for 5-10 min, then stop communication again. Yesterday I tried to fix the problem myself. Malwarebytes found OpenCandy which it fixed, but the problem persists. I have attached my hijack this logfile. I've also posted my most recent Malwarebytes log file. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My in-laws have just bought a new pc (3400 MHz, celeron running XP) and asked for my help setting it up. No problem I thought!!! The new pc did not come with a modem so I took the old PCI modem out of their old pc and installed it in their new pc. I then set up their old freeserve account, after a short panic looking for passwords etc we were online examining their e-mails and the net. Then I installed Zone alarm free edition as they only had windows firewall which I have read elsewhere is rubbish. I disabled the windows firewall and tried to go back online. No joy. I uninstalled freeserve and reinstalled it again checked network settings etc no joy. I have now discovered that I can only connect if I disable Zone alarm first and then enable it once connected. I am quite convinced that this is an easy fix but I am just not seeing it. Please help sleep needed!!

A:zone alarm stopping internet access

I too had the problem. What one has to do is go into the Zonealarm program/down to program control/and over to programs. Once there look for the internet program you are using and set the trust level of the program to your liking. Hope that helped.

I think this problem I'm having is quite common. When I'm using the internet, it seems to randomly disconnect, when I troubleshoot, it re-connects and gives me "the default gateway is not available".
