When charger plugged in pc, the light on the charger box blinks

Q: When charger plugged in pc, the light on the charger box blinks

I don't use my computer for maybe a whole year.
Now, I wanted to use it but it's not working. My battery is addicted, basically, if I don't have a charger I won't be able to turn on the computer.
So when I plugged the charger on the wall, the light on the box charger was solid (it didn't blink); However when I plugged it in the computer the light blinked.
I don't know what's the problem and I would like to fix it, if possible.

But when I plug the charger into my laptop the blue light begins flashing and wont charger my laptop. I have no clue what the problem could be, and I've tried to plug the charger into different outlets and that has done nothing. Please help!!

My Dell Inspiron 17R 5720 doesn't recognize charger any more. And unfortunately my warranty expired 2 month ago.It was plugged in and working in the morning, but then in the afternoon I noticed that it was running on the battery only. It wont start without battery (just charger plugged in).
1. So here what I have done to debug. Me and my brother, we have purchased the same Dell laptops at the same time a year and a bit ago. This is why for a debugging purposes it was good.I took my charger and plugged in to his computer. And it works. Definitely not the charger issue I guess. And when I plug charger in to my computer, green light is still on the charger. And I have the original charger that came with the laptop.
2. Now, laptop works on the battery only, so this means that motherboard is working. I guess.
3. Next thing I did was unplugged charger and removed the battery from the laptop. Then I pushed and hold "Power" button for 45 seconds to discharge a flea charge. Plugged charger back in but laptop wont start.
4. Next I started laptop on the battery, went to BIOS and checked if the charger is recognized in the BIOS. No, it doesn't recognize charger. So, if it is not a charger then what else can it be?
5. Laptop doesn't have any strange smells so I'm not sure if anything happened with the motherboard, but I would assume mother board is ok because it works of the battery.
6. I was thinking updating the BIOS, but I can't, because it wont update whi... Read more

A:Dell Inspiron 17R 5720 doesn't work with charger. Charger is not recognized. Not charger problem.

Hi CJ777,
Thanks for reaching out with your query. You pretty much figured out all points of failure. Good job.
If the adapter is not detected in BIOS, it most likely is an issue with the mother board. In the BIOS set up, AC adapter should show up as 65w or 90w. If the adapter status is 'None' or 'Unknown Device Installed', it indicates that the mother board is not detecting the adapter for which the battery is not getting charged. Once the battery charge drains, I'm sure the adapter will not charge it again. Replacing the system board should resolve this issue.

Hi Lenovo community, I have lenovo Y50-70 gaming laptop, used to heat up a lot while charging near the W S A D keys and the left palm rest. One evening while the laptop was turned on doing nothing intensive like gaming. It starts smoking up from one of the vents and shuts itself down, shocked by the situation I immediately unplugged the laptop.  Long story short, gave it a rest of 1 day, it turned ON on battery just fine, feels like nothing has heppened but no more charging! if I try to plug charger in laptop again, it start to smell. Upon closer inspection: ?? It has burnt 2 mosfets, a fused and some other things. Never in my past 15+ years using a computer I ever encountered a burning laptop motherboard.  Did anyone else face the similar situation? I guess I'd try with warranty since its been only 4-5 months (if lenovo won't sees opening the back case as violation of some sort).

If the jack on the computer where the charger plugs into is loose, then you need to have the jack soldered back onto the motherboard by a local computer repair shop.

Hi to all seven forum,
I came here for a simple question today, the question is, is it better for laptop battery that when I using laptop it is plugged in all time to ac adopter although it is fully charged.
one thing I know that when plugged in charger, the battery not in use, I test that remove battery when laptop in ON condition and AC charger is plugged, the laptop remain ON, so I mad a personal experience that using laptop with plugged in charger, it could save the battery. is it rite.?
Note: that I m not plugged in charger all the time, I only plugged in it when I turn ON laptop. when laptop is not in use and the battery is fully charged (infect it is always charged) I plugged out the AC adopter.
I read many article where many peoples asked the same thing that "should they plugged in charger all the time, (include when laptop not in using)".
but my question is simple which is "should I plugged in charger all time only when I use laptop? is it better for battery.? or it must necessary that we should drain all battery then plugged in charger and remove it when fully charged.?
(sorry for my bad English)
laptop model is Dell Inspiron N4050. 6 cell Li on batter I think. (or lithium)

A:Should I plugged in charger to laptop when I using it.

I'm amazed that this gets asked so often, and I haven't been able to figure out why. There's no reason and no harm in leaving the battery connected all the time. There's no reason to unplug the AC power once it is full charged. In fact, doing so could potentially shorten the life of your battery if it's recharging from a small usage up to 100% often.

I still don't know why people insist on making this a difficult process, to be honest. If you use the laptop on AC power, great. If you use your battery often, or even occasionally, it's a good idea to drain it down completely every so often, and then recharge it back to 100%. There's no harm in using the laptop on AC power with the battery in the laptop.

Early today I kicked my charger and it unplugged while walking out of my room. I was leaving and I was going to be back in a little bit. So I didn't think anything of it. I came back 30 minutes later and my computer was off. I know my computer wouldn't have died that fast. So I plugged it back in and noticed it wasn't charging. So I unplugged the charger from the actual computer and it shut off my computer. I've tried multiple times and it keeps happening. I also noticed my laptop is running faster and louder ever since it happened. This also happened a few weeks ago when my dog hit the cord and it wasn't charging. But I put the cord back in and it started working just fine. I've already tried doing a few things people recommended online, like the following: >Disconnect AC>Shutdown>Remove battery>Connect AC>Startup>In Device Manager, Under the Batteries category, right-click all of the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery listings, and select Uninstall (it?s ok if you only have 1).>Shutdown>Disconnect AC>Insert battery>Connect AC>StartupBut this didn't work for me and after I restarted my computer a second time. The ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery ended up coming back. Any suggestions on what could be the problem?

Recently I bought a charger for my HP G61-110SA which was just a replacement adapter. Now yesterday it did something weird. Basically, there are two pictures of the two indicators there are to show whether it is charging, one is on the front and one is next to the port on the side. Basicaally the charger wasnt changing the indicator on the side or the one on screen but the one on the front was working when I turned it on. By default the laptop chages brightness when plgged in but now it sort of brightens a bit (not to the full level as should do) and then goes back to normal. Today the laptop is still doing the same but the front light now only turns on for a few seconds before turning off! I dont know whether it is charging. Is this the laptop or the charger. Any help would be useful, I have attatached the side indicator and the front one

UPDATE: I found a website which said you could turn it off and start without battery but with charger and then turn off and use both. However, I turned it off and removed the battery and it wouldnt charge. Then I put the battery in and it started charging-weird. Also the light on the front doesnt last very long so I am stuck. ANY HELP?

it could be that your battery is not working properly. how old is the laptop ?

A:Charger Light On, Not Charging?

Hi

first off dont use anything but an official charger, the cheap ones can and will damage your motherboard due to them being unregulated and supplying to much current.

If the charger has the light on but wont charge then the internal cable is broken and may be shorting out inside the sleeving.

check the cable by eye for severe kinks or bends in the cable.

Should you find one, cut the section just before and after the kink and then strip the cable back and join the wires and test it, if it works then you can either solder the wires and use heat shrink plastic to join them or buy a new one.

A:Charger plugged in, not charging toshiba

If you take out the battery when the computer is totally shut down, and plug in the AC adapter and start the computer, does the light on the charger come on, some are green, some not....

And, does the computer work normally if you are using just the AC adapter?

I would not use a battery that charged only to anything but 100% and here is why> overheating can result and cause a fire, I have had one laptop battery explode and it is not a pretty scene.

The AC adapter might also be damaged, but just answer the questions and will try to help further. I buy this type of Toshiba adapter all the time, and can point you to some reliable but not over expensive ones.

The issue I am having with my laptop is that whenever the charger is plugged in or out, the screen goes black/blank then comes back on. This is known to happen when a hdmi cable is plugged in, but is not supposed to happen when the charger is plugged in. I only started experiencing this problem since today and I am wonder if it is because i had started to display by screen on a tv via a hdmi cable. normally when i do this, i set the screen settings to second screen only, and when I am done, I revert to duplicate screen, then i remove the hdmi cable. I am worried that I have done something wrong. I already removed the battery and put it back in, but I am still experiencing the problem. Can someone please elp me out, thank you.

I have a Vista Laptop that is not charging at times. The power jack it pushed in and both my chargers spark when I move the plug around so it could charge. I don?t know if it?s my laptop or the Charger. Should I get the power jack fixed, get a new battery or a new charger? Please Help!!

A:Laptop charger plugged in but not charging

Esmmy, look in the hole on your laptop where the power adapter would plug in and you'll see the silver power pin. Using a push button pen, put it on the end of the power pin and see if you can move the pin at all. Any movement on that pin means it's broken and the DC Jack needs to be replaced. Most DC Jacks are soldered to the motherboard and need to be repaired by someone experienced in desoldering and soldering.

If the DC Jack is broken, the power adapter won't charge your battery since it's not making a solid connection inside. Moving it around too much while plugged in could short something, cause further damage or even a fire.. Best to have it repaired by an experienced technician.

Sounds like the charging circuit is Up In Smoke, you will need to take it to a reputable Laptop repair center or Buy a new laptop.

I would not continue to use it, it may be a fire hazard, burn the house down.

The solution to this old question is :First, find the control panel, then in the search bar type 'Power' and there should be Power Options and underneath that there should be 'Edit Power Plan'. Click on that and underneath the main part there should be a link saying 'Change Advanced Power Settings'. Click on that and then a large list will appear and look for 'Wireless Adapter Settings' and click on it and then click on Power Saving Mode and there should be two options. One will say On Battery and change that setting to Maximum Performance. This solved my problem on my Toshiba laptop running Windows 8. Hope this is helpful

So I apologize ahead of time if I'm breaking any noobish rules, I'm only slightly frantic here... Any help at all would be greatly appreciated!!

I own an Alienware m17x r4 that's about 3 years old. I was playing a game on it and it just suddenly turned itself off (had my headphones on and heard kind of a popping sound, dunno if relevant). I checked the cable because it comes out sometimes, but it was still plugged in, but the light on the cable where it plugs into the laptop itself was turned off.

I thought the cable connected to the power brick had come unplugged but that was okay too. I plugged the cable into a different outlet and the light came back on (it wasn't plugged into the laptop at this time) so I plugged it back into the laptop but the light immediately went out and nothing. I tried unplugging the outlet cable from the brick and plugging back in, but no dice. (did this a few times with light coming on but turning off when plugged into laptop.)

There's a button on the bottom of the laptop right by the battery that when pressed, five lights turn on. Just noticed this so I don't really know what it means; I'm assuming it tells me how charged the battery is. If so it's telling me the battery is fully charged then. Anyway, tried turning on without charger, nothing. Tried turning on without battery in and with charger plugged in, nothing.

I'm hoping that it's somehow both the battery and the charger are bad, but before the computer turned off in the middle ... Read more

Correct if pressed and released tells you what the charge is. If held down the amount of light that light up tell life of battery or something to that effect.

I read somewhere about a bad charger overloading something or other. Could this be possible? Also, my main concern is the things on my laptop. I can do without it for a few days or whatever as long as I know my stuff is still safely contained within. I guess I'm just looking for a little assurance here, Ha.

I have a power for one of mine that when it get to hot it cut off one it cools then back on. I do not think that is the concern here. The data is safe is stored on a hard drive (disclaimer unless the drive is going bad).

1. Replace the power brick with a new one form Dell.

Hi,

is this happening only after you upgraded to windows 7? if so maby have a look at the manufaturers website for a power utility maby? Also i'd recommend checking your charger with a multimeter to check its giving the correct output.

It sounds more like hardware rather than a software issue but checkout what I said first n let me know how you get on.

hiYou need to adjust the power option & actions on low/critical battery.First, follow this route,Control Panel\Systems & security \Power OptionsORYou can open power options by clicking battery icon in your system tray bar (near clock) alsoIn Power Options Menu, click "Change Plan Settings".Then, click "Change Advanced Power Settings"There, first you have to first choose your active power option (High Performance,HP Recommended or Power Saver)below that tab, find and expand the group "Battery" and you should choose what you wish to do when the battery reaches low/critical level and how you want to define the low and critical levels. For example,if you don't like shutting down when the battery is low, you can choose either sleeping or hibernating and you can define your own limit of low and critical battery levels. You can change the display setting too to off/sleep. Just look, expand display group -- it'll be there in that list.Hope this helps, post back if it's not resolved..thanks,

Hi there,

I am new here and have following problem;

Four Months after buying the PC (Satellite Z930-103) I had a bettery problem. Suddenly the orange led was flashing and the notebook couldn't be started anymore. Toshiba service replaced the battery and everything worked well for about two months. Then the same thing happened again. Because I was working in China I opened the notebook and disconnected the battery and could use it with the charger connected.

The PC was sent to a service point when I came home, where they again stated a battery problem and proposed to change the battery. Because the guarantee was expired I had to pay for it. I refused, because the price they were asking was 300 Euro.

Than the big surprise..when I received it back from the service point, they reconnected the battery and the service report stated "no defects found, computer is working well"........

Since than, I started my fight with Toshiba support and tried to find a solution myself. The problem however was not solved until today and still I have to disconnect the battery and reconnect it after waiting a day whenever I forget to disconnect the charger when shutting down or when it goes in sleepmode) I became a real expert in opening and closing the notebook....

Anyway, maybe someone has the same problem and found a solution, I guess it can only be a software problem but Toshiba hasn't solved it until today.

To describe the problem again:

The orange (power) led starts flashing... Read more

A:Orange light flashing after shutdown with charger connected.

Satellite Z930 is very nice machine designed for mobile usage and I’m really sorry to hear that you have such problems. I presume you didn’t find some identical thread on this forum so I hope it is not some “general problem” with this machine.

I’m not a technician but I cannot imagine that described problem has something to do with software settings. In BIOS you cannot change much and in Windows there are standard Windows power settings and several advanced Toshiba settings.
Power supply electronic placed in the mainboard has some “standard” functions and switch automatically between battery and AC power supply.

I cannot say for sure but I presume there must be the problem with power supply electronic. It is not easy to say what is wrong there and I’m really wondering that Toshiba service provider was not able to identify the reason why all this happen.

Let’s see what the other forum members think about described issue.

So I got a toshiba satellite l300d and it does not charge/turn on. I bought a new socket and charger that work. The board looks fine with no corrosion. Is there anything that could be stopping the laptop from working and could it be fixed?

A:Laptop - no charging light even when socket & charger works

Does the laptop have a separate power board? Is that what you mean by "new socket" ? Or did you replace just the jack (desolder / resolder new jack) ?

May need to crack it back open and use a digital multimeter to see what voltage is coming through it.

Hi everyone, I need your help urgently!

I have sony Vaio laptop which has been working well. Recently its charger had a minor explosion and broke (it happened when I plug it in to the outlet as usual). So I replaced it with a new one. However, the light on the new charger was blinking whenever I plug it into the laptop and turned solid again when I unplug it.

Could you please help me fix this? All my assignments and works are in this laptop and I need it very soon.

Thank you

Ps. I have tried removing the battery and it still doesn't work. Also I won't be able to try another charger.

I'm sorry to say but sounds to me like something got fried and that it might never start again. Even tho I can't say for sure without seeing the machine. Anyways, I would recommend to wait and see if some one else would have something smart to come up with on what and how to do.

Symptoms:

1. It reads 99% available (Plugged in, not charging).
2. HP Battery Care Adviser tells me that the battery needs replacing.
3. Battery was losing a charge (Plugged in, not charging) whilst on the HP dock. I transferred it to the charge on the computer itself and it charged up to 99%. The dock still reads my peripherals (external hard drives) just fine.
4. I don't need portability with my notebook. The reason I have it is because I typically spend nine months of the year in one country and three months in another. Otherwise, I'd simply use a desktop. So, I've only used the battery without the charger in a handful of times.
5. Notebook is only eleven months old. I have no other problems.
6. I run Vista 32bit SP1
7. I read online that a BIOS flash may solve the problem. I'm not too keen on a BIOS flash; but I checked just to make sure, and yes, HP released a new BIOS 7-2009. My own is, of course, a year old.

Thoughts:

1. notebook runs fine; if it ain't broke don't fix it.
2. This computer is like the Berlin wall of my life. If this goes, the whole thing goes; so I tend to be paranoid.

What do you think? Do I get a new battery? Do I just be fastidious about backups and not worry about it? Your thoughts appreciated.

Thank you.

~Longstreet85

A:Laptop Charger reads "Plugged in, not charging"

If you don't use it on battery then I would say no need to replace it - its not required for the proper operating of the computer. It does provide one nice feature, if the power goes out then you can keep running the laptop and not have it power off on you and lose your data. However being less then a year old I would be contacting HP and complaining, a battery should last more then that. If HP advises a BIOS update when you talk to them then I would do it, if it breaks its their fault, but it doesn't affect the data on the drive which if you care about then you'll already have it backed up to at least one other location.

Hello, Thank you for posting in the HP support forum. You can buy HP original charger from many places.  I suggest you search in Google for PC computer shops in Manhattan. Popular PC stores in the USA are BestBuy.https://www.google.co.uk/?gws_rd=ssl#q=best+buy+in+manhattan As per the HP manual, the adapter for your notebook should be 65W or 90 W. I guess you can take the notebook with you in the store to test it. It may shorten the life of your power supply unit - perhaps by as much as a week. My experience of charging my wife's SatNav though, proved only that it took five or six times longer than it would if charging directly on mains power.

How long have you had the notebook? I've had this problem before and sooner or later it will stop charging completely. What it sounds like is an AC adapter problem. You may need to replace the AC adapter which could cost a little chunk or if you're computer savvy you could install a new one yourself.

A:Pc does NOT turn of without charger

It probably doesn't know how much juice is left in the battery and then refuses to start. To solve this we will callibrate the battery:

Fully charge your battery
Remove the AC adapter when the laptop is still running
Deplete the battery completely. Note that if it hibernates or goes to sleep mode when it is nearly depleted, just start it again until you are sure the battery is completely depleted.
Then plug in the AC adapter and start your laptop again and let it charge while the system is on.

Do this up to 3 times if necessary.

Please do come back here with the results.

Well, I failed to follow one of the primary rules of downloading (check and double-check the dialog windows before clicking OK or Accept) and now I have the Sales Charger malware/adware. I have seen some posts where people have had to go through some pretty extreme efforts to rid themselves of this infection.

So here I am looking to the experts to help me out. I have a custom machine running Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit, AMD Phenom 9750, ASUS M58 mobo, 4 GB DDR2. I use Avast, CCleaner and Malwarebytes and have downloaded the latest versions of aswMBR, combofix, FRST, TDSSkiller, adwClean, JRT and rkill, so I think I am armed and ready for battle.

From what I have read, it seems I am getting redirects, unsolicited search results, and pop-ups typical of the Sales Charger malware. So where do I start? I have only used the Avast malicious add-on tool when it pops up, but this only helps for the current session and not completely.

Any takers?

Hello,

Whenever I plug my adapter into my laptop the CPU goes straight to 95-100% and stays on it but when I take it out it goes back to normal.

Also, It is a newer charger and it takes way longer to charge the laptop fully.

A:Laptop Charger

Is this "newer charger" the battery charging circuit in your laptop or do you actually mean the power supply (AC power cord and AC to DC adapter)? If the former, did you have the work done and do you have a warranty? If the latter I suspect you got the wrong power supply.

Hi, everyone. I seem to have a reoccurring problem. The charger that came with my laptop Dell Inspiron 1521 had broken in some way, the bottom icon which indicated a working charger had said, "Plugged in, not charging" It was hell for me because I really need a computer to work with...I immediately got a Replacement Charger on ebay three months ago, and now just yesterday I had noticed when I plugged in the charger that my screen kept blinking and so did the green light on the charger...it doesn't recharge my computer...I honestly have had it, I don't know what's causing this and I can't keep spending money on chargers...please help.

If it helps, I do some usual gaming on this computer when I have time, and I sometimes have the charger plugged into the laptop. I noticed that the charger gets quite hot, although I suppose that's normal for a charger.

Thnx!

A:Charger trouble...again

The problem may be with the battery, not the charger. If your laptop is running fine while plugged in, then the charger is probably working fine. It's the battery that is no longer holding a charge.

It may be a simple matter of removing the battery, cleaninging the contact points (cotton swap and alcohol), and reseating the battery. If that doesn't work, then it may be time for a new battery.

Lithium-Ion batteries typically last about 2-3 years, then start exhibiting poorer performance, if not dying outright.

Good luck!

I sent it to a tech guys and he advised that the motherboard is completely lost, do you think it's true and at what price am i looking for to get a new motherboard?

I really need some help and advise because, you won't imagine in how much trouble i'm in at the moment, because the laptop contained really important data.

A:Wrong charger used

hi kersley

Even if the motherboard is fried, I don't think that this would result in any loss of data as the data is stored on you Hard Disk. So as for your really important data, you should be ok. Replace the motherboard (if that's your only problem - I would check the power supply as well) and all should be good.

A:battery or charger?

If you are in the US of A, a company called Batteries Plus advertises that they will test the battery.

Without a device specific to testing laptop batteries & chargers, the only way I know to sort it out is to try to charge the battery in a different computer that is compatible with your laptop's battery.

A:Battery Charger 12V

try a AC-DC converter. Radio shack has them for abt $30. It plugs into the lighter outlet and converts... Not only can you plug in your ac laptop adapter, but any wall socket gizmo.

A:Is it battery or charger ?

It is more than likely the battery has drained and needs to be cycled a few times to get it to hold a charge again. There should be some kind of indicator on the laptop that the battery is charging. Get a new battery from the store and if that doesn't solve it, take it back and get the laptop repaired.

A:HP laptop and it has been not on because of bed charger

Welcome to the forum!

Obvious answer is you fried the power input circuit using too high a voltage. Please tell me it was an accident and you didn't use the 30v power supply on purpose.
