I'm unfortunately somewhat computer illiterate, so bear with me as I try to break down the issue I'm encountering.
I use an online database called Verint Impact 360 to gather audio files from a company's call center. I have the Verint codecs (VerintCodecs.exe) installed on my Windows PC which allow me to play the audio files using Windows Media Player. However, when I try to open the files using a customized program designed by my company, I'm unable to play the calls.
We had an IT member that found a way to convert the calls into a usable format with OpenOffice Spreadsheet by renaming the files. Unfortunately, he's since left the company, and I was unable to determine how he was able to convert the calls.
So, I guess my question is: Is there some way to embed the codec into the call file so that it could be played on other platforms?
Summary: -The calls are in .wav format -I have installed on the computer VerintCodecs.exe -I can only play the audio files in Windows Media Player (I've tried on the customized program and VLC, neither of which work)
I would greatly appreciate if someone could give me some guidance.
If VLC will not play the files, then they are not the usual format of a .wav file
However, playing WAV files on VLC is rather effortless. That’s because VLC comes equipped with the digital programming that instructs it how to handle data sent via the WAV format. Here’s a step-by-step procedure for playing WAV files on the VLC.
1) After you have downloaded and installed the VLC player, open the VLC media player.
2) The VLC media player will display on your screen. On the menu bar, click on “Media.”
3) A drop-down window appears. Click on “Open File” and navigate to the location of the WAV file.
4) Click on the file in the “Select one or more files to open” window or once you are in the folder that the file is located in, type the name of the file in the “File name” window.
5) Click on the “Open” button. The file will load and the VLC media player will begin playing it automatically.
I have recently installed windows media player 10 and have a problem with it. Whenever i play an audio file in media player, media player becomes very slow and unresponsive. i have also discovered it is using between 90-99% of my cpu usage while playing audio files. if i use another media player (ie winamp) i do not have this problem, but i prefer to use media player. n e suggestions???
you can roll it back to wmp9 in add/remove-windows componets and delete the wmp10 install file. then redownload it. but you may have some conflict or it could be just a bad file. i like 9 better then 10 anyway.
I have a red circle with a white X in the system tray that I cannot remove. My Windows Media playing is having some issues. All my movies has strang colours on them. This is for both playing DVD's and downloaded movies on offline, and watching movie trailers and various other movies online. I'm pretty sure this isn't a codec problem because I've downloaded the newest version and this happens to ALL movies.
Here is a picture of what it looks like
I just downloaded a .avi movie file and attempted to play it with WMP. I noticed the following messages in the corner before the video would load:
connecting to codec server
error downloading codec
The video proceeded to play, but with no audio. I don't really know what a codec is (okay, I don't have a clue!) but I'm assuming the lack of audio is related. Is there anything I can do to get the audio back or should I just download a different file?
try a different player
I recently spent a few weeks transferring hundreds of hours of my family's home movies on VHS, Hi-8, Mini-DV and HDD, to my hard drive using Ion's VCR 2 PC. The VCR 2 PC creates .mpeg files.
A few weeks ago, I installed a 1 TB hard drive and moved, via a cut and paste, all of the .mpeg files from my old hard drive to my new one.
Now, when I play a .mpeg file in Windows Media Player, the video is there, but no audio. The video codec is listed as "InterVideo DVD", but there are two dashes beside the audio codec.
When I use the software that came with the VCR 2 PC - EZ VHS Converter - to view a file, both the video and audio are there, but my family generally all have Windows Media Player, and none have EZ VHS Converter.
Obviously, I've done something ill-advised, and the cameras and vcr I used to transfer the originals are ally pretty much finished, and I'm concerned about whether the tapes will hold up during another transfer.
Any suggestions on how I may restore the audio would be most appreciated.
Download Mediainfo and use it to identify the audio codec that your files are using. Alternatively, get everyone to use VLC player (free) or download the Klite Codec Pack or the CCCP codec pack.

I cannot play these recording that were taken from a friends video camera.
Windows Media Center doesn't play sound from certain MKV files, but audio works if I play it in VLC or MPC.
I am guessing you need to install an AC3 audio codec
that you can probably get by installing ffdshow.
There is AC3 filter here if you don't want all those other codecs...
More good info here......
I am transfering video from my Sony DVD-Handycam to my computer. The files seem to transfer fine. They are on my hard drive and say they are Movie file (Mpeg) and they play in the sony program Picture Motion Borwser.
The problem is that they do not play in Windows Media Player (I think Im using wmp10). Also they do not view as thumbnails (they just have the wmp icon).
When I double click on one of them, wmp opens up and tries to play it but I get the error "Windows Media Player cannot play the file. One or more codecs required to play the file could not be found."
Sony was no help and I don't know where to find these codecs at.
K-Lite free codec pack, search and download via Google
I'm at my wits end.
I put together a capable gaming pc about a month ago with a bunch of new components and some cannibalized older components.
I installed all of the drivers from the motherboard cd. I have a radeon x1300 vid card. I'm running windows xp home ed. I've installed about every codec and plugin under the sun. I've troubleshot my load with regard to Windows itself.
I cannot play Windows Media Audio/Video files for the life of me.
I do get audio, but the video is all hyper-colored like looking at scrambled porn.
It doesn't matter if I download the video or watch it in a browser (any browser). It doesn't matter if I open up the DLed video in real player, Windows Media player or Generic DIVX player #458973: it still comes out all scrambled and in crazy moon-man rainbow colors.
I have no problem playing any other type of windows media player file. Quicktime works fine as well.
Well standard Window's media files should play without the need for any additional codecs.
Maybe check the forums of your vid card for some answers.
Hello, Hopefully someone can help. I am trying to view a dvd Store bought by the way. It play only video, no audio. I have tried a dvd I had made some time ago and audio works. I have downloaded AC3 filter still the same. Any other suggestions?
What software DVD Player are you using? Are you getting any sound on your system at all? If so, try VLC player (free) and see if that works.
Ok - Windows Gurus.
I have windows media player on the machine. Everything has worked smoothly for months now. I now have a problem with media player 10. When I click on a link to view streaming video, the clip will buffer for a bit, then the 1st frame of the video comes up/freezes and the audio continues on.
If I close media player and click on the same clip, both the video and audio work fine. What is causing the video to freeze (audio continues to play) when I click on the video clips the first time around.
If I try to play something locally, there are no problems. It is only with streaming content and this is a new issue. Software wise, I have been authoring a handful of DVDs but outside of that, nothing has changed.
I have tried to reinstall media 10, reinstall the codec packs etc. All other media players play fine (real audio, winamp etc)- no video freeze. So this is only inherent to wmp10. Weird.
Any other thoughts on what has been altered to cause the video freeze?
I am all for suggestions and thanks in advance for the help!
I am using windows vista and using windows media player 11 to watch dvds. The english audio does not work when playing dvds, even though US english is the default setting and I select US english in the dvd settings. The background music plays and with one dvd I managed to hear some dialogue. Every other language that I select (e.g french, german, english for hearing impaired) works. I have tried numerous DVDs so it is not a dvd problem, and I have tried those dvds on a laptop and it works fine. So it is not an audio problem, nor a faulty dvd. Am I missing a codec or something or is it in the wrong region (I live in Australia) I dont have any other dvd players on this computer so I can't test it out that it is just a WMP problem. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I just want to make sure I have all the codec's downloaded that will help me be able to watch ANY type of video file I may come across. I watch a lot of videos on my computer, in fact, I have stopped using my TV altogether but I want to make sure I have all I might possibly need.
Also I need to know how to keep them updated. Is there a free program out there that will do this for me so that I don't have to keep track of it manually myself?
I heard downloading a bunch of "Codec Packs" can sometimes NOT be good b/c they don't always have the latest versions of EACH codec in their packages. If this is the case what "Codec Packs" should I download and what other codec's should I download separately, as in NOT in a package?
What is the recommended way to go about this? For FREE of course
Thank you ahead of time for anyone who can help me with this!
I would recommend having a good group of players installed, rather than just codecs. I have the following players installed:
Windows Media Player
iTunes / Quicktime,
There are other players you could try
This should cover about 99% of videos. If you come across a video thats not covered then you can download the latest codec. My fav download site is http://www.filehippo.com.
Hi,I've found some .mp4 video files on my PC and I'd like to view them. Windows Media Player doesn't seem to like .mp4 files.I was wondering if someone knows of a good "freeware" codec download that would cover all the basics for playing any file on your PC?I've found Vista Codecs but once installed doesn't seem to work for .mp4 even though it says it does. (Looks like a great product anyhow?)Anyone that can straighten me out here would be appreciated. Thanks,John

I'm hoping someone has a great idea for me.
All I want to do is play the media Files from my PC on my TV, but I don't want to spend a fortune.
I have a wireless network, but these wireless media servers seem to be very expensive, I wondered if there was another way.
I'm happy to use Memory sticks or cards to transfer the files (I'm not talking about large files) but need something at the TV to play them.
Looking forward to your suggestions,

I am running Windows XP Professional on a P3 computer with 256 megs of ram. I have a Nvidia Riva TNT2 M64 video card. I am trying to play MPEG-2 files on Windows Media Player 9, Real One player and Pico Player. All players are MPEG-2 compliant, but I receive error messages in each one. Is this video card not MPEG-2 compliant? I can play MPEG-1 files. Do I need to upgrade to a better video card? Can someone tell me before I pull my hair out? The error message I receive in Media Player is "unsupported codec" - In Real One "needs to install plug-in, no plug-in available" - In Pico Player, "another application is using hardware overlay, quit program". AAAAARGH! HELP!!!!

you can manually download the latest codec pack here
ok, basically i have TV episodes of house, the pilot plays perfectly well and high quality. i play the second episode and it says "windows media player cannot play this file, the file type is not supported blahblahblahstuff" yet both files are the same format and i have "K-Lite Codec Pack Full" installed.
Maybe the file is incomplete?
Or try a different video player like VLC Player.
Windows Media player keeps getting interrupted by "things" other programs?
Media player keeps getting interrupted by "things" - other programs I guess. Both while playing mp3's and music videos. It doesn't shut down. It just sort of shorts out the music... until I guess whatever is finished bothering it.
-When I try to rename files or move them around in Windows Explorer [not the ones playing].
-While on the internet. No certain reason that I can see. The websites/webpages I have open don't appear to have any media player music playing. It happens when I use either IE or Foxfire browsers.
Is there a button or something I can select that can keep Windows Media Player from being affected by other programs? It is verY irritating.
I have the following MUTED in volume control:
Thanks so much!
Okay... I asked this question awhile back and a gentlemen said he thought my my system is working too hard and when any other activity is required there is insufficient CPU time left for the video or audio, so it pauses. But he couldn't say ... he needed my specs.
My specs are
Dell 498 Mhz processor
BIOS version 4.0 release 6.0
Please can anyone help? Thanks so very very much.

sorry wrong forum.
I'm not a fan of Windows Media Player. I downloaded AIMP 2.61 build 560 from CNET and installed it. No matter how many times I enabled all audio file types -including playlists and both applied and saved; whenever I would close the window and reopen it, the associations were gone. If I applied and saved, closed the program and put in a CD; it always opened with Win 7 Media Player. When I manually open the installed program, none of the associations are there. I also right clicked and ran the program as administrator. It didn't help. I uninstalled the AIMP and installed the VideoLAN - VLC media player. I got the exact same results. It will not keep file associations, all music files and CD's continue to open with Win 7 Media Player.
It's as if Windows is overriding my choices, not allowing these programs to become the default player.
Any suggestions on how I can correct this - and your preference for an additional music player are appreciated.
P.S. All I need are basics - play different file types, download CBBD info, and have a playlist. I don't use iPod, sync with anything, or by music online.
How to Change Default Programs in Windows 7
Default Programs is used to choose which programs you want Windows to use by default to open a particular type of file, such as a music file, an image, or a web page. For example, if you have more than one media player installed on your computer, you can choose one of them to be the default player.
Using Default Programs, you can:
Set your default programs
Associate a file type with a program
Change AutoPlay settings
Set default programs for this computer
Let's see how you can change settings using Default Programs.
1. Click the Start button to view the Start Menu and then choose the Control Panel option.
2. The Control Panel window opens up. Click on the All Control Panel Items.
3. From all the options choose Default Programs.
4. The windows shows various options. Click on the Set your default program.
A window opens up with the list of all programs available on your computer.
Choose the program from the list by clicking on it eg. Windows Media Player and then click on the Set this program as default link and click Ok.
5. To make a file to be open with a particular program, click on Associate a file type or protocol with a program in the Default Programs window. All the file types with their extension names are listed.
As in above screen shot you can see the default program for .bmp files is Paint. You can change it to Windows Photo Viewer. Click on .bmp file extension, click on ... Read more

Any video's I download and play back using Windows media player are having problems.
What happens is only half the video plays and it quits partially though. Also, i can't fast forward or rewind.
unfortunately, most encodes of wm files require a full download before you can ff or rw. if you are using standard permissions in your browser, the file will download in the background to your temp files folder while it is streaming...watch the status bar, once it is completed, then ff & rw should function.
as for dropping the stream, if you are trying to ff or rw too early, this could cause issues
alternative is to right click - save target as, download and then watch

I am trying to play a windows media video that I have and I think all my windows media files are associating themselves with another program that is incorrect and it won't allow to play in wm player. Is there any way I can fix this?
open up WMP, and go to Tools>> Options>> File Types>> and Select All, and then Apply the changes. it should work just fine, its just that some Applications like to take over, like MusicMatch does for me, ever since installation of MM for the Ipod. hope this works for you!!!
yeah just bought a blu-ray/hddvd combo and im shocked at how ridiculous the copy protection is.
You have to get anydvd just to be able to play it in the media player of your choice (assuming you have the codecs already setup)
my problem is: i can play blu-ray fine on Media player classic home cinema x64, but when i try hd-dvd all it does is play the warnings at the beginning, and blank screens aswell
Can anyone help?
edit: I would rather not use powerdvd, because personally i think its a pile of rubbish.
If anyone knows how to set it up for MPC it would be v useful.

I am transfering my music files from an old Sony, Windows98, Media player7 to another machine, an HP, WindowsXP, media player9. When I try to play any of these tracks in or out of playlist it doesn't play them it pulls up internet explorer. Where it is trying to go I dont know as I am not online yet with that machine. I noticed in the Tools, Options, Privacy tab there are options that request information from the internet about the songs. There are check boxes that are empty next to them so I dont think they're enabled. I have fields empty for each track. Like Album, media info. Is it searching for that? Can I bypass the process?
Found problem, I protected the tracks when I downloaded them so when I go to transfer them & play them on this other PC it is pulling up internet explorer to get license confirmation. I won't do that again. Said something about limiting the number of computers to be played on after you protect them. Problem solved.
I have a memory card camcorder that records video as .ASF files (MPEG4 I think too) and until now have had no problem playing back the video files that I have recorded.
I've recently had to do a full system wipe of my computer due to various issues. Now I have a bang up to date version of Windows Media Player 10 as well as all the codecs packs. However the .ASF videos just won't play properly, the videos stop and start every second with huge gaps in between each frame. Windows Media Player also crashes with playing these files, I tried RealPlayer which also delivers exactly the same results.
I'm totally stuck with what to do,
Thanks for any help you will be able to give me in advance,
Sounds like it might be a codec problem. Do a google search for a program called gspot (you can guess why I won't do one at work -.-;; ) It opens a file and reads what codec's its trying to use. Giving that output about the audio and video codec would let us know what those files are using in particular and can hunt down a way to fix it.
I have ten songs that i bought online and my WMP used to play them, but no longer does. Everytime i go to open the files, a error screen comes up saying "there was an u expecte error and WMP needs to close"
i have sent the info. to Microsoft, but there haven't been any fixes. I do have the latest updates for it, any solutions or what's the next step...perhaps a error number is what you need?

My uncle got DSL a couple of months ago and I've downloaded several large and small video clips and saved them to cd-rw's so that I could bring them home and put them on my computer, but I've encountered a problem when I try to view some of the clips. Some clips say ANOBOLIC when I try to open them and they won't play on either my laptop or my desktop pc, but I can open and view them fine on my uncle's computer. What do I need to download to fix this problem?
The other problem that I am having is that I saved some video clips that range from 15 to 30 minutes, and when I put the cd in either my laptop or desktop pc a couple of the clips say that they are 1 or 2 minutes when they are really 15 to 30 minute clips. I try to play them and they play for 1 or 2 minutes pause at the end and then move to the next clip, and when I fast forward the clip I am able to see some more of what wasn't shown in the first 1 or 2 minutes but it won't finish playing the whole clip. Again, I am able to view all of the clips perfectly on my uncle's computer.
At first I thought that the problem was with the cd-rw's, but since they work fine on my uncle's computer I have to believe that it is a problem with the media player. Hello, my name is steven and I would like to begin by saying that I am an amateur when it comes to working with computers. I wanted to free up space to operate my computer faster and hopefully stop lagging while playing games or just browsing for that matter and it seems the only certain amount of RAM to add to increase my speed is the lowest that is sold @ kingston technology which is a 1GB card. Unfortunately, being the amateur I am, I was stumped here , http://www.kingston.com/us/memory/system_specific/server where they ask for my manufacturer, product line, and model. I plugged in all the numbers I could think of that might work for each but nothing matched when it came to the model # and I personally have no clue what my product line is so as I said I was just guessing I have all the information about my computer (from what I believe to be the complete transcript of it) and I just need to be able to answer the questions on kingston technologie's website so I can get my recommended RAM card that will hopefully be compatible with my computer. Nothing about product line is stated and the manufacturer of the cpu is unclear and so I would like help identifying the answers to the three questions posed on kingston technologies website.

Since then, my computer keeps playing random audio files that I have never downloaded onto my computer, mostly ads for something, and at one point, the beginnning of a baseball game. CPU activity spikes when the files are played, but there is no way to stop them, and no visible reason they'd be playing (I won't even have a browser up when they play). I've tried using msconfig to keep things I don't recognize from starting up, but that doesn't appear to be the problem. Google searches for the same problem haven't turned up anything helpful, and now my computer is also turning up a lot of popups, even when my browser is not open (yes, I do have cable Internet).
I think it's a virus, but I've run several virus and malware/spyware programs (PC Doctor, Spybot, several antivirus programs, including Norton), and nothing is catching it. Any ideas on what this is and how to fix it?
I've gone through the five steps and posted my Panda ActiveScan and Deckard/Hijack This logs below. Thanks for any help you can give me!!

Got a new computer at work (Dell Optiplex 760 w 3.25 GB RAM - running Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3). When I try to play my music files (originally downloaded from purchased CD's on my old computer) on this new computer through Windows Media Player the sound is stuttering. Randomly. My IT dept. can't figure it out. I was running WMP v. 9 and today I updated to v. 11. It doesn't matter. Still stuttering. I have little Bose desktop speakers. When I go into the control panel on my computer and click on the "sounds and audio devices" icon it says SoundMax HD Audio. I'm assuming that's the sound card? The music files are local on my hard drive. It's driving me crazy....and I'm not a sophisticated computer user. Help. Thank you.
I have the same problem with the same computer. Haven't been able to fix it either.3 more replies
How do I play a window media movie through my s-video out to record on my external dvd recorder? I have an emachines laptop M5310.
when i aquired windows xp plus! it had a feauture called mp3 audio converter. when it finished converting i found it compressed the file to less than half its original size. how come a cd player wont recognize windows media audio files?
The're not the right extension. In windows Media Player there's a button on the left side that says "Copy to CD or Device" In there you can make MP3 or Audio CD (.CDA extension).
Hello there guys, I am having a real problem with my Windows Media Player 11 playing .avi files.
My digital camera records videos and they have played on my machine with WMP no problem at all until yesterday. When I click on the file to play it it says "Window Media Player encountered a problem while playing the file. For additional assitance, click Web Help."
I have had had a good around and I can't resolve this problem. The problem seems to have occured since I installed DivX Player, Codec etc.. (the installer package). Since then I have tried uninstalling it to go back to how it was and also tried doing a system restore to the point before but still the same problem.
Don't know what to do but this problem also effect Windows movie maker, it won't player the avi files in there either, please help.
I am running Windows Vista Home Premium
Hi ellisd5, as far as i'm aware Divx is not Vista compatible but don't quote me on that. Best thing I can suggest is to download and install the latest stable release of K-Lite codec pack as that may restore normal functionality to your avi files (be sure to remove any currently installed codec packs first though).
Hope that helps

Hello TechSupportForum :)
I am currently having issues with my asus laptop; since two days ago, it has been behaving strange:
1. The files/folders that I used to save on the desktop (under my account, i.e. user) are missing. I can only find some of the program shortcut such as Mozilla Firefox, Nitro Reader, AVG2013, etc.
However, sometimes those shortcuts, when double-clicked, would work and sometimes wouldn't. When would work, the program behaves as if it were the first time I used it, with the welcome screen or tips... When wouldn't work, it pops up a small dialog, stating at the top of the bar: "Windows Security" then at the next part it says: "These files can't be opened. Your internet security settings prevented one or more files from being opened." And then there is a link to "Why these files can't be opened?"
When I click the link, it takes me to the Windows Help and support dialog; which shows the setting for the Internet Explorer, such as the zone for local, intranet, etc...
One weird thing about this first issue is that when I look in the C:\windows\Users\User\Desktop ; my files and folders are there. But again, sometimes are okay to open, sometimes aren't.
Like when I chose to save the dds.scr on my desktop, it was saved well...but I wasn't able to locate in the desktop. Then I tried running the file without saving it in the first place, but there was no such option...then I tried changing the default location of downloaded file t... Read more

I recently updated a Windows 7 service pack and while it was updating, I opened GeForce Experience to see if there was an update for my graphics driver. When I did this, my PC crashed and after it booted up, I've had no sound ever since. I've done everything I can think of. Ran scans, an SFC scan, plugged my speakers and headphones in and out of every port, etc. There's that red X at the bottom of my volume control and it just says that no speakers or headphones are plugged in. I can't even configure or set defaults in the sound panel. When I click on the volume icon, it runs a troubleshoot, asks me what sound devices I'm wanting to get help with, and when I pick speakers or headphones, it simply says that they're unplugged.
Microsoft Support said that my audio is messed up due to the conflict between Windows updating and a third party program (GeForce) being ran at the same time. As far as the sfc scan goes, I've ran it multiple times with no luck, and I've even gone into my CBS.log to find out what the problem is. Towards the end of the results, there's about a paragraph length including "Audiocodec" problems and "Audioess.dll" corrupted files. This obviously is the problem. I've attached a picture where this occurs.
I'm hoping that this can be fixed without having to buy a new copy of Windows or a new soundcard. But if that ends up being the case then I will of course.
Please help! I will be eternally grateful. As you can imagine, a PC reall... Read more
Do you have a System Restore point that is BEFORE the updates? If you do, try restoring the PC using an available restore date that is BEFORE the updates. That may take care of the problems. You will have to reinstall the Win 7 updates and the Video updates (but do them one at a time).
A side comment. I see you have Windows 7 64 bit OS but only 4GB of RAM. 64 bit OS' main use is with more than 4GB of RAM. The 64bit OS requires more memory than the 32 bit OS thus you have less RAM available for programs. If your motherboard is capable of more than 4GB, consider upgrading to at least 6 or 8GB.
I'm having a problem with windows media player, it won't open files while im using the Unreal development Kit,and also while i'm using certain other programs, this is especially annoying because when im trying to watch a tutorial for the UDK and go along with it. Hello Community! Please help!
Ever since I had gotten rid of a virus, my computer just won't function properly. A whole lot of problems and weird occurrences like a red X on my internet connection, yet I can still use the internet. I also can't hear any sound whatsoever.
Upon trying to open files it just wouldn't open no matter how many times i clicked, or it would show me an error message to reboot my computer and believe me I tried.
I tried using system restore to get everything back to normal, and yet again, another error message. It says:
'System restore does not appear to functioning correctly on this system
A Volume Shadow Copy Service encountered an unexpected error. Check the application event log for more information.'
I have been having this problem for about a couple of weeks now. I've been trying to just get the sound back at least but no luck there either.
I fear I might have to buy a new Windows 7 installation disk. I wanted to wait till windows 10 updated but i'm almost positive that this problem is going to prevent it from updating.

In Mac OS Quick time does this (I can have 10 audios all playing simultaneously). WMP nor VLC seem capable of this.

hi! On some Videos Files i can't burn to DVD. The ones marked Windows Media Player Video/Audio file.. How do i convert them into Mpegs so i can burn into DVD'S? Thanks!!
I have several movies (.avi files) on my PC and tried to watch them. I played one with no problems, but the others show video with no audio. Right before Windows Media Player opens the file, it says "error downloading codec". I had WMP version 10 and checked the settings and they were set to download new codecs automatically. So I upgraded to WMP version 11.
With WMP version 11 it says "downloading codec", then "codec aquired" and it opens the video - no audio again.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks in advance!
Please download FFD Audio Decoder and install it on your PC. Use the link below:

ok (as you my know by know i rarther hate windows media player)
well basicly i have loads of .mp3 files in my Docs and my music folders, there not all music files, when windows media sees them it ads them to libary, Annoyingly, i manages to stop it downloading extra info like album art (cos its soo stupid, it gets it wrong like 95% of the time lol) but it keeps adding every thing back to the libary even if i delete them from it, its soo annoying any!! surgestions please?
In WMP go to Tools > Options and uncheck all the boxes in the Player tab, Privacy tab and Library tab.
In the Library tab click on Monitor Folders and set the top part to "My personal folders", then click on Advanced Options.
Set all the folders to "Ignore". Unfortunately you can't set the Rip folder to "Ignore" so for that go to the Rip music tab, where it says "Rip music to this location" click on Change and create an empty folder somewhere. Then just never add any music files to that folder.
Then delete everything out of the WMP library and it should remain empty.
when I try playing some files (they have an .avi at the end) on Windows media player i hear no sound at all. When i play them on DIVX player i get a message that says - Audio codec Tag 353 need is needed to play this file with sound. Any idea how i can get this codec ??? thanks a ton in advance

Alright, wav and other audio files are not playing in anything except for my media players. (ex: Winamp, WMP, ect) When I try to open something in sound recorder, the file loads but the play button is grayed out. A similar thing happens when I try to record, the record button is grayed out so I cannot.
When on the internet, I can't play any embedded files, even if they are mp3. On sites like google video or youtube, there is no audio.
Also, I'll add this example as well: I'm encoding some video in virtualdubmod and when I play the video in virtualdub there is no sound.
And, wav's that play when xp starts up and shuts down are not playing. Same thing with the standard error/beep noises. (and yes these sounds are enabled)
Any ideas for a course of action? As a note, I have the latest K-Lite Mega Codec Pack installed.
You stated Sound is enabled. Have you check the Control Panel Sound and Audio devices and looked at all the advance setting?
Volume control. No items are muted.
This was just an example. If you have not go through the rest of the tabs and see that all of the items are set properly. And if a test is available use it test the settings.
Does you audio device have a separate entry on the Control panel? If yes have you checked through it for additional setting.
If you have check these item already, sorry but you did not say where you check for the sound enable.
hey, im aware that this problem is pretty frequent after browsing forums a couple of times but never actually found a solution to the problem.
ok, so, few months ago, my computor was pretty messed up, swamped with viruses etc
so ive cleaned my pc up, roughly got everything back on track
apart from audio
k so audio works fine with any media players installed on my pc, wmp, winamp, vlc, nero, real, etc. fine, movies and music, even online radio1 works
the problem is that, where you control the windows audio in the little minimized icon which is found on the bottom right taskbar, that has dissappeared, which probably has something to do with it, but also, when i have numerously attempted to play audio videos on youtube or myspace, or music on myspace/profiles, that kind of thing
i get no sound at all, video generally plays fine just no sound whatsoever
im curious as to how it happened in the first place, but also would ideally like to find a solution for it as it is quite annoying
any advice would be greatly appreciated

So, recently, I've noticed that SOMETIMES, audio ads will be playing in the background, with my computer running no programs. Knowing this was the work of a foul program, I immediately did what anyone would do; turn to their scanner. I won't lie; I'm running MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials) and MBAM, so my defenses were not all that they could be.
So, I ran full scan from MSE.
Didn't kill it.
Then, I ran Mbam full scan.
Didn't kill it.
So, I decided to run Combofix, which apparently, is rumored to be like, the atom bomb of Anti-Foul-Programming, which destroyed Mal-Spy-Ad-Ware, asplodes rootkits, and smothers worms.
(And this didn't kill it.)
I thought that I might've just ran combofix wrong, and of course, there is a good chance I did. But after CF rebooted me, I did a hard reboot, and restarted in Safe Mode, and ran CF again. This still did not kill the sucker.
Ran CF a THIRD time, after learning that CF has to be ran from the desktop, but even then, I still had ads playing.
Now, when I say 'SOMETIMES', I mean that the ads seem to start and end at random times. I might not have ads until 30 minutes after logging on, they play one ad, and then I don't hear another for five more minutes. OR, I might log on, and have audio ads playing the entire time I'm on the computer.
I hope someone on here can help me solve my problem.

Hey guys, ongoing issue for about a month now.
Randomly programs will just not play audio, while every other program plays just fine, even new programs opened immediately following a program that failed to have audio.
This includes but is not limited to, games (Path of Exile, League of Legends), VOIP (Skype, Discord), and websites (Twitch, Youtube).
The only way to remedy it for the instance that it occurs is to restart the Windows Audio service or close and reopen the offending program. However these are both undesirable solutions given the side effects they can cause depending on the programs running.
Nothing particularly noteworthy happened around the time it started happened. Perhaps it was in relation to updating Logitech Gaming Software (which has since been uninstalled and am using windows drivers as of now).
All audio drivers not relating to my current setup (Realtek, LGS, NVidia High Def, etc) have been uninstalled, but it doesn't hurt or help the problem. Also, I'm running on Windows 7.
I have a new Intel DP965LT motherboard with "SigmaTel" audio control. I am running windows XP SP2. I have two sony DVD/RW burners. When using Adobe Elements to make a movie, audio is burned onto the disk but will not play back in either burner. (Plays great on the TV). I have sound for playback for other recorded files, such as Mpg or WMV that have been burned to DVD, but not for and movie-type DVDs. I seem to be missing a codec? I do have a list of audio codecs in Device manager, but under Sigmatel there is only one.
How do I find and install the proper codec(s)?
I have already checked that nothing is muted, that headphones haven't been selected, etc.
try the klite codecs
I have tried to remove the above and tried the uninstall but it wont go. I have read you cant do it yourself as it will leave things in the registry anyway What is the safe method? I have looked at Ultimate uninstaller and Perfect Uninstaller but the last is said to be a scam even though Cnet has it to download. Where do I go from here ? I am on Windows XP home SP3, so windows support didnt offer any help on this.
Thanks for any help
Try the free Revo Uninstaller. It has an excellent reputation and it does the job.
I am having problems playing audio files in iTunes and Media Player. I have tried to reinstall iTunes and see if that works but nothing. Media Player shows the video but a error message pops up saying the file is currently in use close program and attempt to view file again. Also no audio plays in MEdia Player, however audio works any where else. Someone know what it could be?
i have upgraded from XP to W7 (full upgrade 32bit) - ever since this i have not been able to play DVD's or watch any movies stored on my PC without there being issues with the Sound and picture. Basically its starts off fine, but the pctiure and audio seem to go out of sync very quickly.
I have tried everything i can think of such as; changing the media player i am viewing with from WMP to VLC (and a few others!!) to downloading codecs
I am seriously thinking about going back to XP - where i dint have this issue
Any help would be greatfully received
Where are your videos stored? If they are on a local hard disk you may have corrupted them during the installation. If this is the case, it doesn't matter if you revert to XP. I would place a few effected videos on a pen drive and try to view them using a different pc. If the issue remains, then it's the videos, if not then it's your system.9 more replies
I listen to talk radio online. I had been listening to KFI AM640 for quite some time, then all of a sudden was not able to listen to it.
Their support staff were not able to help, claiming thousands of people are still listening, my isp was not able to help claiming they are able to access it. I checked my settings with them and apparantly everything is on the right setting. According to them, I should be able to listen.
I can hear streaming from every other radio station I attempt to connect to. The only one I can't hear is KFI.
I have window XP home, I have Media player 10 and there is over 512mb of ram in my system.
Like I said, I was able to listen then two weeks ago, it wouldn't connect.
When I try to access this through media player (Rather than direct thru the site) This is the error message I get

Previously, when connecting thru the media player I would get "buffering" then it would start playing.. I don't get the "buffering" message now. All it does is show as if it's playing, then a minute or so later, I get that message. It doesn't play at all though.
I have checked my settings with my ISP, that is all correct. I've updated codecs, that made no difference.

I think this is a problem since I upgraded from Vista to Windows 7 but can't be sure. Basically if I put a music CD into my laptop drive, Windows Media player 12 not only doesn't automatically play it but when I open Windows Media no CD is recognised in the drive. But if I click on Windows Explorer the songs are shown (although won't play with WM). But they play with RealPlayer. This is clearly a WM problem then... all other CD/DVD functions are working, just not WM.
I followed the instructions below (from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/982116#nextsteps) and deleted two files from the registry as instructed but this made no difference. I also have run the Device Manager Troubleshooter for the drive and that didn't work. Also I tried Microsoft's Mr Fix it but that didn't either. Can anyone help me please?
PS Obviously this means I can't rip CDs either!

Take a look HERE You should be able to find what you`re looking for.
Also, make sure in WMP options/file types all file types are selected.
I downloaded a video today and set it at AVI (original quality), as I have done for all of the videos that I download. When I tried to play it back, I only received the audio portion. There was a message that I was missing a codec. How do I determine which version of Windows Media Player that I have? I have searched all of the usual spots, but I cannot find this information. How do I fix this problem? This has just started happening since I updated the DVDVIDEOSOFT program.
I appreciate any help that you can give me.
Instead of using Windows Media Player, use VLC Media Player 2.2.1.
It doesn't require additional codecs or a codec pack.
I'm at a brick wall with Media Player 11 and it being able to playback mpg files on one particular windows xp machine.
The codec that it is trying to use must be corrupted? Does anyone know if the player tries all installed codecs? Here is a list of my installed codecs per windows media player:

This is making static for every song I play and it has too many options with equalizers and such that distort the audio. Is there a way to replace this with something more simple that doesn't require a 500 page manual on how to run? I'm not sure what my sound card is or how to find out. Thanks for your help.

What drivers are available for this? It's what's at the hardware portion of the Sounds and Audio Device Properties. Is this my video card? Please help.
I wanted to post here earlier tonite for some help. Not sure who in my house did it,but it was a monster. I eventually took my laptop down to factory. I didnt want to because it would have been a great learning experience. Here's what happened and my question. I had antispyware programs, even trend microsystems Pc-Cillin (dunno how it got past). My internet security was up to date. I couldn't connect to the internet to update any of the spyware programs I had. Trend couldn't connect to its servers. (I wish I could post a copy of the convo with tech support. Everyone needs a good laugh) I couldn't back up my files, kept getting an error.
Outside of restoring it to factory. Without being able to update software, how could I have eradicated it?
Here is the exact name of it. Trojan-Downloader.Zlob.Media-Codec
SmitFraudFix is most likely what we would have started with.
It used to play DVDs until I uninstalled InterVideo WinDVD. Dumb move. I guess WMP was using InterVidoeo's codec. I reinstalled the program, thinking that would fix the problem, but it didn't. I've also download the Windows XP Video Decoder Checkup Utility and set the InterVideo decoder as my preferred decoder, but I didn't get anywhere with that either. How do I get WMP 11 to play DVDs again like it did before? Can I do this without downloading another program or reverting to an older version of WMP?

I just upgraded my laptop to Windows 10 by doing a clean install with an ISO. Now the audio works but is not as loud as before and I don't have the proper IDT HD audio CODEC drivers. I can't find anything on the HP support website.
Hi: The only suggestion I can offer would be to try the W7 audio driver from your notebook's support page and see if that works.1 more replies
I have an older computer (running 98SE) using an 'ABIT VH6' motherboard with onboard AC'97 Audio CODEC sound. In the past, I had downloaded the driver but once installed, there was no sound. I did so again just now, and again there's no sound.
What could be the problem?

Does anyone have a midi codec for windows media player? Rather, does anyone know where I can find one?
If you do know where I can get one, do they cost anything? If so, how much?
WMP should have a built in midi "codec". What version of WMP are you using?
