XP won't load up anymore.

Q: XP won't load up anymore.

Hey, I went to turn on my laptop this morning, and got this error message. It just stays at 17% forever, and doesn't load up. I left it for about 5 hours, came back and it was still stuck there. I've tried booting it up from safe mode, restoring from a different point, but it still won't boot up. Help please!

Here is a link to the image i'm talking about: Imgur

Hello priest_jimbo, to TSF!

You have the answer to your problem shown in the screenshot...."The Volume is Dirty."
This means that the HDD is bad; it might be recoverable, but it will mean completely wiping the Drive with a Wiping utility such as DBAN, and re-installing the O/S from scratch.
This in itself presents other issues:
You will need your original Windows? Installation Disc and Product Key;considering the fact that you are still using Windows? XP and Microsoft? no longer support XP; it might be time for you to seriously consider upgrading the unit completely.
It's probably more than 4 years old and ready for the scrap heap.
Even if you were successful re-installing XP you would not be able to update any of the security and system updates because of the cessation of support.
If the HDD is too far gone and re-installation of the O/S is unsuccessful; then, its time for a new replacement Drive.
Taking into account the cost of a new HDD for your laptop, and a new Windows? O/S; such as, Windows 7? or Windows 8.1?, it would more than likely work out to be cheaper to buy a brand new laptop, that would already have an O/S pre-installed.
Prices of laptops today are very good, because manufacturers and retailers are all competing for business; hence, prices are very good.
Now is the time to consider your options.
Post back with your thoughts and any queries you may have.

Kind Regards,

Suddenly my c.d.'s do not load anymore. Not in Windows Media, nor in my PCDJ, etc. When I restart the individual programs the c.d. loads, but only once. (after which I have to restart again if I want to hear a new c.d.

Only my Real Player works partly. It also does not automatically reload new c.d.'s but if I manually delete the playlist and then press Play again it works. But this is not normal I reckon...

Can somebody tell me what the matter can be? (It's not as simple as to click automatic playing via computer - c.d. ROM device etc.)

Hi paulvangelder

. . . and Welcome to the Tech Support Forums.

Several things to check:
(You've already taken a good first step: you already checked on the "Autorun" setting for your drive)
1) If you can, borrow another CD (or DVD) drive (an external is a quick troubleshooter for this sort of thing). If everything suddenly works just fine with a different drive, it's possible that the drive had become faulty. (Could be something as simple as the lens needing cleaning, or the unit could be failing).
2) If the problem just recently started (and trying a different CD-drive doesn't help), try a System Restore, using a restore point from when the CDs were playing OK.
3) If neither of these work - make sure it's not malware corrupting system files (scan in both Safe Mode and Normal, and use as thorough settings as possible. If you find an infection, try the 5-Step Security Checklist here at TSF http://www.techsupportforum.com/showthread.php?t=15968)
4) If the system scans clean, try uninstalling Windows Media Player.
5) Run a Registry Cleaner (I recommend CCleaner http://www.download.com/CCleaner/300...ml?tag=lst-0-1)
6) Disable any "Download Manager" software you might have, and download a fresh copy of Windows Media Player (you can do this in Windows Update -- which is a good idea anyway, since you should also check for Security Updates while you're there).
7) Install Windows Media Player & test to see if it plays CDs OK now. Then ... Read more

Hello all. not sure I'm in the right forum but whatever.

I'm running a dual boot system with Slackware Linux and Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. Using the LILO boot manager to switch between things. Everything was working fine, just did a fresh install of both OS's. I was fiddling around under windows 7 in disk manager because I essentially needed to created a new partition because I had split my 500 gig hdd into the following: 100 gig, for Windows, 100 gigs for Slackware and the rest for NTFS data. I had not set up that final partition which was what i was doing under disk management. So i set it up as NTFS and say ok then all my partitions switched from blue to orange and it assigned some drive letters to my linux paritions (OS and the Swap) which it had not done previously... as expected. Now being the old tech that I am, i didn't take the time to read any messages that popped up as well... windows does that a lot so so i don't remember if anything popped up before or after this happened.

Now the big problem, i reboot my system, Linux works fine and I can access the windows partition no problem and even modify things in it. Then i load windows again and it just hangs at the "Windows Loading" screen (all black with white text). It's not frozen as the little cursor is blinking. But it just hangs there.

If anyone has any idea what happened and if there's a fix it would be a great help, I really don't feel like re-installing.

Also, if anyone can tell me what process t... Read more

A:Windows 7 won't load anymore

I am not familar with old technology like Linux, but Windows 7 will configure the boot menu correctly when installed last and if drives other than OS's are unplugged in case one is wrongly marked active.

When Win7 has its boot sidetracked, it is normally recoverable by booting into the Win7 installer Repair console and running Startup Repair repeatedly, in case there are multiple issues. All former command fixes are automated there.

I'm having the same problem as the member who posted about connection problems with craigslist. I have websites that I used to visit occasionally, but now when I try to access them they don't load at all. Other sites are fine. I tried different computers at home, all the same problem. I have a wired internet network at home with Verizon as my provider. I took one laptop to a wi-fi location elsewhere, and all the sites I mentioned loaded immediately.

I turned my modem off and on, and the sites then loaded normally. But last evening they all went out again and now when I reboot my modem they don't come up. I can't imagine what the problem could be. I will try the pinging method when I get home, but if that doesn't help me solve the problem I don't know what to do. Any advice on this issue?

Running Office 2000 in Windows 98.

Out of the blue Excel does not load anymore. Excel logo comes up and then the entire computer stalls.

All other software in Office works.

I have tried reinstalling Office again on top of and also tried the error correction install. No change.

My last resort I guess will be to erase Office and do a clean install unless someone knows better. Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks

Hi. My Sony Vaio laptop won't load up anymore. When moved I sometimes got the blue screen of death, it restarted and it was fine. But yesterday I moved it slightly and it got the blue screen of death again. It came up with the screen asking if I wanted to load Windows normally or in safe mode. No matter which I click it starts to load then gets the blue screen of death and restarts again, then showing the safe mode option screen again.

I have no clue what the blue screen of death screen says as it doesn't stay up for more than a second.

I have no back up disks. It doesn't seem to want to show the BIOS. It is running Windows XP.

What is most likely to have caused the problem and what can I do to fix it? I'd rather not wipe the hard drive and start again unless I really really have to.

Any help would be great. Thanks.

Hello,

I have a Dell Latitude laptop
and eveytime I start it and when Windows XP
tries to load---a blue screen comes up that says,

" autochk program not found - skipping AUTOCHECK"
and then it goes to another screen that says something like,
" STOP c0000021a { fatal system error}
the session manager initialization system process terminated
unexpectedly with a status of oxc000003a (0x00000000 0x00000000).
the system has been shut down"

and after that it just reboots and does the same thing over and over
unless it's shut down--this happened after I was trying to upgrade
windows media player---and i had to reboot after--but it hasn't been the same since. Can anyone please please help me

sincerely,

Hi, I'm new to the forum and I'd like to first say I really appreciate this opportunity to get some help. My Gateway has been infected with something for months now it seems. (I'm far from a computer expert, but I did try a lot of various anti virus programs) Google also has been hijacked. A lot of times the computer would fail to even get to the sign on screen, so I've done the "restoring to an earlier point" option several times . The problem seems to have gotten worse over time, and about two weeks ago, no programs would load. No AOL, no Firefox, Media Player , and a lot of other random links that wouldn't activate such as certain things in the Control Panel. The little arrow in the task manager that points up was still there, but none of the things that are usually there were there anymore (except the volume and windows update, which I also couldn't load) I did system restore again a few times, which worked, but a few days ago it crashed while trying to restore and now the only dates available are recent ones that still have the same problem.
I've looked around the internet on another computer and tried a couple random things, such as disabling a lot, if not all of the startup programs from running, but still nothing. Even in Safe Mode, nothing really loads. Pictures will load but not music or videos. It doesn't seem like I can do much anything on my PC now. Did one of my virus scanners accidentally delete something important? I... Read more

If yes, then the AC adaptor is OK and I would say that your battery is faulty.

I use Photoshop Elements regularly. It recently stopped launching. It starts to load, but when it gets to loading TWAIN menu items, it unexpectedly quits.

This problem started soon after I got a new printer, an Epson Stylus CX4800. But it didn't start immediately. I did use Elements and print from it, but the problem started a day or two later. The two may have nothing to do with each other.

I've tried uninstalling the Epson software. Didn't help. I've also tried upgrading from Elements 3 to Elements 4 but that won't launch either.

Any ideas?

Hi all, I've got a new and weird issue. I'm on Vista x64 with all of the updates as well as the latest versions of IE and Firefox. I work on TrailDamage.com and haven't made any changes to the banner in many, many years but all of a sudden the single image that holds the logo and the words "TrailDamage.com" is not showing up. My first thought was that I'd been hacked, but it doesn't appear that way. Next, I found the image on my computer (it looks fine) and uploaded over the top of the old one. I still can't see it. The behavior is the same in both IE and Firefox.

For example, if I go to any TrailDamage.com page I can't see it. If I go to http://www.traildamage.com/images/_boilerplate/logo_banner.jpg I see nothing, an empty page. I uploaded the same image to http://www.traildamage.com/images/_boilerplate/logo_banner2.jpg and I see that one. The odd thing is that if I go to these pages and links on another computer I can see everything in IE, so I know it's just a problem on my end.

IE and Firefox both have the same symptoms, so it seems like it's some Vista setting they share between them or I have a virus or some other bug (I have no idea what that could be). I looked at the site yesterday and there were no problems so this just happened today.

I deleted all of my temporary Internet files and reloaded the page. It grabbed all of the images again except for that one. Does anyone have any idea how this is happening? I'm really at a loss. Thanks!

Hi everyone,

This is my first post here and I'm glad to have found this forum with so many helpful people. I am typing this from my iPhone since I'm having troubles with my laptop, so sorry in advance for bad typing.

So recently my gpu failed (8800 GTX M) and I ordered a replacement. After I replaced the faulty card the laptop was running beautifully for 2 days. Today while playing call of duty the game crashed with A directx error. Thinking it was just a random thing I restarted the laptop And it wouldn't boot up anymore. Not even the Dell splash screen appears anymore.

Shocked I disassmbled the whole laptop and put it back together. After this the Dell splash screen appeared again, only once though. Now I'm back at a black screen with nothing loading at all. I am super frustrated right now, and have no idea what itmight be.
Hope someone can help,
max

A:Laptop doesn't even load bios anymore

Hi all! I had my laptop running last night and I woke up this morning and my computer was frozen. It wasn't the "blue screen of death" as many mention as it was simply frozen but when I turned it back on (and continue to turn it back on) it gets stuck on "Starting Windows" without even proceeding to the Windows log-in screen. Next, when I launch a "system repair" it goes through the process but freezes in the blue "system repair" screen without even showing anything..just the blue background sunshine screen and is just stuck there...under "Advanced Boot Options" the "Last Known Good Configuration" gives me no luck either...I then try "Safe Mode" and under "Safe Mode with Command Prompt" it freezes while "Loading Windows Files" and the last file/driver it shows is \windows\system32\DRIVERS\AtiPcie.sys

I don't know what else to do...I have a Windows 7 64-bit boot disc but this is my small laptop which doesn't have a CD/DVD drive. I can use my USB drive if necessary but I attempted to do that but maybe there is some special way I must install it on my USB drive?? Otherwise I am completely stuck and I am hoping someone can help me out...this is driving me crazy! Thanks again in advance..

mobo: Gigabyte GA-MA785GM-US2H
processor: AMD Athlon II X3 450 (Rana)
os: 7 Home Premium 64-bit

1. Unlocked 4th core through bios ACC options (became Phenom II X4 B50)
2. Played Fallout 3 for 4 hours.
3. Converted an HD video.
4. Prime95 for 12 hours. (no crash)
5. Shut down.
6. Booted it up the next day.
7. Restarted by itself when it go to the Starting Windows screen. (5 times)
8. Went into bios and increased vcore to 1.450v and vcpu-nb to 1.400v to no avail.
9. Changed back to tri-core and Windows loads properly.

My question is, what is the problem? Why is it that even after I ran so much stress testing without crashing, yet now it cannot even load the Windows welcome screen without restarting? Did the 4th core just suddenly decide not to work anymore?

I successfully installed win98se / win2k / winxp (in that order) and had them all functioning properly using the windows boot loader. Well at least for a while. Today I tried to boot into win2k and it loaded to the point where it displayed my desktop wallpaper. It did not load the tasbar or start menu, and ctrl+alt+del did nothing. After a few minutes, it played the sound it plays when it loads up, and started flashing repeatedly the messages "Loading your configuration" and "Saving your configuration" or somesuch. It would not stop playing the sound and flashing those messages until I reset the machine. I then attempted to boot into XP, which ran chkdsk and said it "fixed" something in my win2k partition.

Any ideas what this could be and how I might fix it?

A:win98se/win2k/winxp multiboot will not fully load win2k anymore

Don't exactly know what the problem is but you could try doing a repair install using the win2k CD. All your files and stuff won't be affected but to be safe backup your files first.

Hi everyone,A few days ago, I suddenly couldn't update AVG anymore. It always gives me an error, telling me the connection with the server failed. I also noticed that I can't connect Limewire (P2P program) anymore and opening movie streams in Windows Media Player doesn't work anymore either.I searched some forums for a solution and I found someone with a similar problem, who also told he couldn't execute the "cmd" and "regedit" commands anymore. I tried it on my own computer and I can't run those things anymore either. When I try executing them, the explorer goes all weird and shuffles the program bars on the task bar.I've manually downloaded the latest updates for AVG, installed them and did a full scan, that didn't find a thing. I also ran AdAware, which said I had some malware, which I removed with it. Then I also ran Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, which found some more malware, so I removed it, rebooted my pc, but the problems still exist...I'm hoping someone can help me with this problem, because it's really anoying...Here's my HijackThis log:Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2Scan saved at 20:37:26, on 11/05/2009Platform: Windows XP SP3 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6000.16827)Boot mode: NormalRunning processes:C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\At... ok this is gonna be a bit long but i want the details there. the issue pc is my old pc. it has windows 7 its an asus msn-la motherboard i cloned this drive and used it in my new pc. after a few months my new pc's drive died and i took the old drive from the issue pc(witch was not giving issues at this time) and stuck it into my new pc until my replacement drive came. when i got the replacement drive i cloned the drive again onto the replacement drive and then put the new drive in the new pc had no issues there. put the old drive back into the issue pc (this is when issues started) the pc booted up to the windows desktop loading screen fast but once it got there it sat there for like 5 min before loading into windows. once it loaded into windows it was un usable for around 10 min while it loaded background stuff. once it finally loads into windows if i try to open anything its still responding extremely slow. is there anything i could do to fix this or is this going to me a re install only situation? i did try to use a windows 7 disk to do a startup repair but it claimed i couldn't do it because i dident install from that disk.

Our users have IE 7 and 8. We keep them locked into place by pointing IE to our firewall product (tools > internet options > connections > lan settings), so that only approved sites are the ones that our people can access. In the last few days, several of them report issues with specific websites loading very slowly - load times of over an hour just to get the log-in screen to appear.Troubleshooting Steps:1.) Unchecked the "use proxy server for your LAN" under the IE menus---> Site resolves instantly, as it should---> This pointed me to the direction that perhaps the site wasn't configured for our firewall2.) Re-checked the "use proxy server" box, and specifically configured the site in our firewall---> Site continues to resolve slowly, with the same load times as before performing step 1That would normally indicate that the problem is on the vendor's end. Something may be wrong with their site. And that's the line of thought I was pursuing until I was reported back to that the users are having the same problem on other websites. These new websites they're having problems with are, and have been for a long time, configured properly in the firewall.I'm not sure what my next step is to pursue. What am I looking for now? I don't know enough about networking to figure out where to track next.

A:Users are unable to load websites - no error, just 1-hour+ load times for pages

Windows Xp Doesnt Wanna Load, I Gotta Restart To Make It To Load

OK, Im gonna explain what happened step by step cause Im not sure whats important. I dont understand very much about this stuff. I hope someone more expirienced then me will help me out.

Im using windows xp proffessional version.

OK It first happened while I was surfing online, I was surfing on sites that I can say are pretty much safe, but at the same time I was running either AVG 7.5 antivurus or their AVG antispyware 7.5 (not sure which one of the two) . At some point when the scanning was on my E hard drive ( windows is on my C hard drive ) the computer froze and naturally I restarted. But windows didnt wanna start after the restart, it kept giving these messeges: windows didnt shut down properly and it asked me to choose to start it in safe or normal or etc.. mode.

I tried every type of start mode, it didnt work. Windows wouldnt load and u know that line where windows loads would move a while and then stop.....no responce no nothing. So I tried restaring several times. Same thing, widnows didnt start properly last time, choose a mode...after I choose it loaded for a while but then stopped!

So I took it to the repair, the re-installed my windows. Now when I wanna start it, it runs properly doesnt ask me to choose, windows ... Read more

About 3 weeks ago, I noticed that my yahoo mail was not loading correctly.
Since then I have discovered that several websites will not load at all.

My wife's laptop with xp has no issues with the same sites.

Yahoo sites load partially displaying only text and text links.
While searching for remedies, I found yahoo answers that appeared like there might be useful information but could not get them to load either.

Two other example sites that do not load at all:
www.irs.gov
www.buzzfeed.com/daves4/the-world-isnt-such-a-bad-place

Firefox reports that they failed to load, Chrome reports that there was no data received.

I have Avast AV running, have tried clearing any and all rootkits. Tried Malware bytes, tried flushing the DNS cache. And as far as I can tell I am virus free yet nothing has helped.

I even tried looking up the IP address of irs.gov using nslookup and could not get any of the returned IP addresses to load.

I thought it may be a DNS issue, but I appear to be using reliable DNS servers 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

Any ideas as to what may be causing my system to refuse to download specific web sites?

A:Some sites will not load, some load partially, most are fine - browser independent

When it is switched on, it gets stuck on the Samsung BIOS load screen. The F2 (Setup) and F4 (Recovery) buttons don't work unless they are pressed straight away. But when they are pressed it says 'Please Wait', but nothing happens.

I have changed the CMOS battery, but it hasn't helped.

Greetings gurus. Internet trouble. As the title says, my mail will not load in any browser. Page load is very slow and most things time out at least once. AT&T ran line tests on DSL and everything was clean. Not sure how this could be. Speedtest was run many times and no probs. I even did some gaming which strains everything with no problems. I'm open to the possibility of a virus. Ran Avira and MBAM but haven't gone further. Strangely the wife's Facebook games are a no-go. Also, wireless devices work fine. Heeeeelp!

I run both IE 8 and Firefox on my Dell Dimension system. I'm having problems now with both browsers taking forever to load. This may be a virus or network problem. IE 8 just loaded now after 15 minutes (exactly - I timed it).

Details:
- Once it's loaded once, both browsers load in normal amounts of time.
- I haven't downloaded any new add-ons lately unless one browser or the other installed one in the background.
- The problem just started today after a reboot.
- I've also noticed that my network icon in the taskbar doesn't show up anymore when I first boot but by the time IE opens, it has showed up.
- Using ipconfig, I did determine that I am on the network and connected immediately after boot up (router also shows me connected immediately).
- I've tried running IE from the command line with iexplore.exe -extoff. It didn't make any difference. I don't know if this works with IE 8 though.
- When I click to open either web browser, the process shows up right away in Task Manager and remains.
- I have all the latest updates to both browsers that I know of.
- I've run a complete system scan with McAfee (fully updated as of today.)

Now I've run out of ideas on what to try. I appreciate any help!

Thanks!
Alec

I dont know if this is posted in the right area but I'm so desperate to get my laptop working its unreal.
First it started off with my laptop crashing, I had totally forgot it needed to do a windows update and turned off my laptop in hopes that it would work properly.
After that my laptop has not been working. The machine turns on and gives me two options. Start windows normally or do a repair. Upon starting windows normally, it loads so far before sending me back to the two options of start windows normally or repair. On the second time I clicked repair. My laptop then goes so far before presenting me with a blue screen that is usually the screen where my accounts are. The cursor still moves but it loads no further even after leaving it an hour. I decided to make a repair disk, hoping that the problem was because of windows. the disk loads, gives me a choice on the keyboard language then does nothing. I honestly have no idea what to do, I want to keep all the files safe on my computer as I havent backed them up and I have worked so hard on the projects. someone please help

A:windows 7 refuses to load and system repair wont load

Do a hardware/software reset with your BIOS:Shut down and turn off the computer.
Unplug the computer from the wall or surge protector (then remove the battery if it is a laptop).
"Remove the computer from any port replicator or docking station, disconnect
cables to printers or devices such as external monitors, USB memory sticks or SD cards, headset or external speakers, mouse or auxiliary keyboard, turn off WIFI and Bluetooth wireless devices." (Use Hard Reset to Resolve Hardware and Software Issues HP Pavilion dv5000 Notebook PC series - HP Customer Care (United States - English))
Hold down the power button for 30 seconds. This closes the circuit and ensures all
power from components is drained to clear the software connections between the BIOS
and hardware and clear any corruption in the temporary memory.
(If it is a laptop, plug the battery back into the laptop and then) Plug the computer back into the wall. Do not reconnect any unnecessary peripherals; monitor, keyboard,
and mouse should suffice and be the only peripherals reconnected.
Turn it on to reinitialize the software connections between the BIOS and hardware

After doing those steps, clear your CMOS by entering the BIOS (see your system manual for steps to enter the BIOS), going to the EXIT screen, and loading setup/optimized defaults.

I have always worked in Chrome. My work page won't load anymore, as of last week. I tried it in Internet Explorer, and then tried FireFox. Chrome and Internet Explorer both say the problem is with the site, not with my computer or my firewall. FireFox says the site may be busy and can't be contacted. Every other employee, including my husband's computer in the next room, can load this site.
I have tweaked my proxy settings to allow automatic connections. I have disabled Kaspersky and Ad Mucher. I have done three progressively early system restores, to times when I was able to load the web page. I have turned the computer on and off after each new fix I tried. Nothing has worked.
Any suggestions?

Looking for help.
I've recently completed a new build and can only get WinXP to boot, but not Win 7. First, my components:

ASUS P8Z68-V Pro MB
Intel i7 2600K
Kingston HyperX Ram, 16 GB (KHX1600C9C3K4/16GX)
GeForce 9500GT (used from prior system)
Seagate Barracuda 250 GB (from prior)
Maxtor 500 GB (from prior)
PS is 630W, not sure of brand off hand

My hard drives were previously partitioned as follows. The Seagate had a primary 100 GB boot partition with Windows 7 and the remainder as a backup partition. The Maxtor has a small 20 GB partition with Win XP (as a back up in case of primary drive failure) with the remainder of the drive used as my main data partition.

Assembly seemed to go fine but on first boot simply went to a black screen after post. I flash updated to most recent Bios and disconnected the Maxtor drive. At this point could get to the boot screen. But, no matter what option I chose (normal startup, safe mode, repair, last known working configuration), it would go to black screen with "Starting Windows," and would either hang here, or sometimes the loading animations with the colored flags would just begin to start and then I'd get a blue screen. When attempting safe mode, I would get a blue screen amidst loading drivers. At this point I put in the Win7 installation disk. Whether I select repair or new installation, it will say loading files then go to blue screen after the "Starting Windows" displayed.

At this point, I stripped ... Read more

OK, I am not following was this an existing win7 install that you expect to boot with a new mb OR did you clean install win7 with the new board?

Internet access is very slow. It takes up to 3 minutes to get a page to load, and I have to hit 'Reload' 2-3 times before a site finally loads. When it does, Firefox still shows the site as loading. This problem appeared after one of three events. On the same day, I downloaded Babylon and FoxLingo. I have uninstalled both, and removed and remaining registry entries. I also received an email from my fan site on Ning (I am an author) requesting approval for a blog post. The link took me to my fan site, but there was no blog posted. I discovered it was the usual spam for male enhancement drugs, but perhaps it was hiding a more malicious virus. I cleaned up my Ning site and notified them. I have had the problem since. I ran AdAware and AVG, and only came up with minor cookies. I also ran SDFix, including catchme, and got 0 hits. I ran Malwarebytes, which only showed the SDFix files and 2 low-level threats. I also ran HiJackThis, but the log showed nothing that should not be present. All that leads me here. I have followed the procedure in the Prep Guide. FYI-I had to run GMER 3 times. It caused my system to freeze the first two times it finished scanning, which took over 10 hours. Outside of the Internet, my computer runs other software smoothly. I have a brand new ASUS MB, 500GBHD, AMD chip and 4GB DD2 memory-less than 3 months old. A:Solved: Browsers will not load microsoft website but will load FB, Google etc etc

Either it's a problem server side for them, which would be an issue with your IP,
or a process/service altered some of your core system settings on your end which blocks the microsoft website for some reason....., you can try a different IP address just to make sure it's not server side for them, and then if that doesn't work I am not sure what to tell you other than reinstalling all browsers, and eventually refromatting if reinstalling browsers does not work.

IF it is an IP issue it could be something with your network, if a network admin blocked the microsoft website, or even theoretically your ISP if there was a strange issue with them, however that would be rare.

I have a very simple web page that automatically updates daily. However, very often when I view it I just get the version that is in my browser cache rather than the latest version from the web. I have to do a manual refresh from the browser to see the latest version. Not a problem for me, but other viewers of the page may not realize they aren't seeing the latest information.

Is there an HTML tag or some such that can be included in the page that will force a refresh and override any old version that the viewer may still have in their browser cache?

I tried several things, but nothing worked. Here is a list of what I have tried: 1. I did a hard reset. 2. I made sure the batery and the AC adaptor are not the problem. 3. I tried pressing the ESC seveal times after powering the device, but nothing happened (to load the safe mode). 4. I tried to restore the bios by pressing the windows and B keys, and then pressing and then releasing the power botton, and continue to press the other two keys. When I do that, I can see the hard drive light comes on for a few seconds, then the screen lights, but it stays blank. I contine to press the two keys for 1-2 minutes, but nothing shows on the screen. Then when I release the windows and the B keys, the screen goes dark, and the power buttoon continues to light. The power goes off if I press the power button for several seconds. I tired this several times. 5. I tried step 4, but with a USB drive. The same happened. 6. I tried pressing the power button, then the  F2 key (several times). The screen continued to be black. 7. I tried the pressing the windows key + P. Nothing happened. 8. I am trying to solve this problem on a friend's laptop. It is a Sony Vaio with Windows 7 64bit, using Chrome. Bought within the last year. I can play videos from sites like youtube, hulu, and sports sites, but when I try to play a video from putlocker, gorillavid, or other streaming sites typically used for videos like anime or tv shows the video either doesn't load (just spins) or takes a REALLY long time to load, almost like it is downloading the full video before it plays.

I borrowed another laptop from the library which also has Windows 7 and Chrome and all the videos play fine on it using the same internet connection, so it is definitely something local to this machine.

I have searched the net for three days trying to find a solution, but to no avail. I have the latest versions of flash, java, etc. I have tried older versions of flash. I've disabled the antivirus and firewall. Disabled the built-in flash plugin for chrome. I really am not sure what else to do. If anyone has any suggestions I would readily welcome them. I have tried other browsers as well and had similar issues.

Do you have more then 1 computer connected to your modem/router? If so, does this happen on them? If not, can you connect a separate one (ex: friend's laptop) to test?

Normally when you get errors like this it's best to rule out a problem at the modem/router and provider before going crazy over trying to fix a problem (that may not exist) on your PC(s).

Also just a couple of other questions:

Who is your internet provider (ISP)?
What connection type do they use (Cable/DSL/Fiber/Fixed Wireless/Mobile Wireless)?
What is the make and model of your router and modem?

This just started happening last night. Earlier that day I bought a 160gb seagate external HD at Fry's for 50 bux and was moving tons a files over to it (for about 3 hours). At one point I cancelled uploading and rebooted fine, but later that night my girlfriend did the same thing and rebooted and XP will not load... not in safe mode. I didn't install anything with the external HD as it was Plug n Play and I didn't install any new programs yesterday either...

I don't have a Win XP CD either (or boot disk). I guess my first action will need to be to buy Win XP and try a system recovery?

Is there any way to find out what is stopping it from loading?

I also switched the memory sticks with some other memory and that did nothing...

I'm at a loss :l

I've had a subscription to the online version of USA Today since 2012 and rarely had a problem viewing it.  A few days ago, I began having a problem.  I can login OK, but the newspaper won't display.  This happens on 2 PCs, one desktop, the other a laptop.  Both PCs run Win7 Pro SP1 x64.  The problem also happens using both IE and FF.

Normally, I run the MVPS hosts file on both PCs.  Because I had updated the hosts file a few days ago as well, I decided to put back the default MS (blank) hosts file to see if perhaps the new hosts file was blocking something USA Today needed.  With the default MS hosts file, I got a different result as shown in the screen shot below:

That prompt at the bottom took me by surprise so I Googled it.  I got many hits for "load.js from loadm.exelator.com" described as a Redirect Virus.  I'm assuming the one I'm receiving is related.  I clicked on cancel.  The USA Today newspaper still did not display.

Any idea where this file is coming from?

Any ideas why I can no longer view the USA Today online?

I run Norton Security on both PCs.  I've received no Norton warnings about any virus.  I also ran full scans with Malwarebytes and SUPERAntiSpyware on both PCs and they were clean.

A:Do you want to open or save load.js from load.exelator.com?

This problem is screwy.  From about 7am-11am this morning, I was getting the same result shown in my opening post.  Then, sometime after 11am, it started working, mostly.

With the MVPS hosts file loaded, the newspaper displayed normally:

With the default MS hosts file loaded, the newspaper displays, but again with the load.js asking to be opened or saved.

I clicked on cancel.

Wonder how long it will continue to load properly.

Sure would like to know where that load.js is coming from and if it is malicious or not.  Just for chuckles, I downloaded the 1k file and opened it with Notepad.  Here is what was in the file:

document.write('<img src="https://load.s3.amazonaws.com/pixel.gif" width="0" height="0" />');

Mozilla and IE, through Mozilla, either takes long to load or no load. If it does load does so without .gifs or some links. Some links are broken. Some will load the login page fine then freeze on the next page.

The perplexing part is that it affects only a few pages but not the whole site: my hompage, Nasdaq.com; ebay.com (after the login page), espn.com takes a while, 240 sec, to load then only partially load.

Network fine, signal strength fine, I've killed Symantec, no difference. Switched to Windows firewall, no difference. Killed Adblock, no diff. Ran Spyware Doc, nothing; NAV scan, nothing.

I'm lost. Anyone have an idea?

Thanks in advance.

A:Mozilla Freeze On Load Or No Load On Some Pages

Ive been having the same problem. Im with Virgin and they were useless with the advice they gave. Try reinstalling your modem. My line has recently been upgraded to 8.1meg from 2.2 and i think the modem hasnt quite got the hang of it being this quick yet. It seems to work for a while but my line keeps changing. At first it ran at 7.6 and the problems with pages started so i reinstalled the drivers from the disk and it shot straight upto 8.1. Its been a pain for the past few days with some sits(even my homepage of Virgin) so i reinstalled it again and all the pages now come up.

I use firefox as my browser. Lately some websites either won't load or take in upwards of 20 minutes. My virus scanner keeps catching virus's. I have run my virus scanner(CA VIRUS SCANNER), ad-aware, spybot, spysubtract, and superantispyware, they all cuaght something the first run through but now come up clean. i then browsed the forums here and found a similar post. I tried some of the suggestions there, which were to repair my network connection in the control panel, and to set firefox's network connection to autodetect, these seem to have helped but some sites are still slow particularly pogo games(my wife)pogo.com loads up fine it's the popup game windows that have the problem. thanks for any help.

A:Doesn't Always Connect And Pages Don't Always Load Or Load Right

Hello,

Sorry for the delay, this forum is very busy right now.

There is a program from a company called SearchHelp, Inc. on this computer. Sentry at Home or Sentry Remote. From the information I can gather on the Internet, this is a legitimate application aimed at allowing parents control over their children's web surfing habits. Judging by some of the lines in this log it uses a proxy server and several other techniques to filter internet content. This might explain why you have trouble connecting to some web sites.

If you are the owner of this computer and installed this program, I would suggest disabling it temporarily to see whether your problems persist.

Whether they do or not, post a fresh HijackThis log along with the results of this test.

It appears that you have already posted a hijackthis log here. Please be patient while waiting for assistance. HJT Helpers are all volunteers regardless where you post a log. While waiting for a response, you should not ask for help elsewhere or make changes to your computer (install/uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc.) Any modifications you make on your own can result in system changes which may not show it the log you already posted. Further, following advice outside of that post may cause confusion for the HJT Helper assisting you and could complicate the malware removal process which would extend the time it takes to clean your computer. If you had posted your log here, similar rules would apply. We would ask that you be patient while awaiting a reply and refrain from asking for help elsewhere. If you followed any other advice already, please ensure you inform the HJT Team Helper when they respond to assist you with your log. This will help them know what has been done and they probably will ask for an updated log.To avoid confusion, I am closing this topic. Try running a ping to the sites that have trouble loading to see what kind of connection times you are looking at. I would also run a tracert to those sites to see if there are any places dropping the connection.

I run ESET-NOD32 as anti-virus; Zone Alarm as a firewall; and Prevx. I also regularly scan with Ad-Aware SE, Spybot- S&D, AVG, and Spyware Blaster (which I don't think that I am using correctly).I followed the steps that you have outlined in the "Preparation Guide For Use Before Posting" but was unable to get the on-line scanners to work (all 3). Pay more attention to your typing...

Your going to have to strip down the system to bare minimum hardware. Set the bios to failsafe defaults, use on-board video if you have it. Remove any USB devices and any add-in PCI cards like a NIC, sound card and use only 1 stick of RAM for the Windows fresh install

I can't seem to get Windows 7 SP1 to load a driver for an HP printer that is on my home network. My laptop sees it but won't let me make it the default printer or load a driver so that I can link to it wirelessly. I restored my laptop back to windows 7
because Windows 10 was moving too slow. I only have 4gigs of memory, and windows 10 probably runs better with 8gigs of memory.

I'm working with a Dell Dimension C521 PC. It came with a PCI-Express video card which apparently has failed, yet the motherboard itself has on-board video. The system will boot using this video output (as opposed to the card which produced nothing) but when it finally gets to windows the auto-detect driver routine kicks in and begins to detect the video card, prompting the user to "Continue Anyway" to finish installing unsigned drivers. Unfortunately this event takes place in front of the installation of the USB keyboard and mouse (times like these I wish it had PS/2 ). Anyway, whether I boot up into Safe Mode or normal a prompt comes up about installing drivers for the on-board chipset. I can't interact with it because the driver install routine for the keyboard/mouse becomes interrupted.

A:Dell Dimension C521; USB key/mouse driver load interrupted by video card driver load

Bump. I've been thinking... the only way I think this can be fixed is if I boot from a Linux CD or something similar and delete a particular set of drivers for this video card. It can't prompt you to install any drivers if they don't exist, right? But I don't know where to go to delete such files and prevent them from automatically trying to install themselves. Any ideas?

Hey guys,

Here's the challenge:-

Running Windows 7/XP wired by ethernet to a home router.

A lot of sites I'm visiting seem to instantly crash (website not found) and need refreshed a few times before loading up.

Sometimes they don't load from clicking a Google search, and no matter how many times I click refresh they don't work. But if I go to the address bar and hit enter, it loads!

And one or two sites that I visit just won't load at all.

What I've tried that did NOTHING:-

Fresh installing XP and 7.

Chrome, IE and Firefox.

New LAN drivers.

Flushing cache, renewing IP.

Installing a USB wifi stick.

Safe mode.

What DID WORK:-

My iPod on wifi loads them all perfectly.

If I boot up mini Linux, all sites work perfectly!

If I boot up mini XP, the sites work after refreshing a few times (even the ones that don't work at all during normal boot up).

--

Hope that jumble makes sense!

Any ideas how to fix this?

Thanks a lot!

A:Certain sites need refreshed to load or won't load at all

Hi and welcome to TSF try using a different port on the router ie plug the cable into port 3,try a new cable

Hey Guys!

So, I've run into a bit of a problem. For the past couple of days my Internet Connection seems to be acting strange.
Sometimes i can load pages almost instantly, for example google or wikipedia, and a minute later i have a loading time of above 30 seconds for the same page.
On the other Hand, when I start a large Download and it has to run for an hour or more, it wont abort, even when I can't connect to other Websites in the meantime.

The weird thing is that this happens on every Device in my Network. I've done a ping test in this little "downtime" and half the packages timed out.
Wireshark shows that somehow I keep sending out packages but for like 15 - 20 seconds I get no response at all.

I really don't know what to make of this and would appreciate some help^^
Thanks in Advance!

I was wondering what the difference was whether you had a program load at startup (by checking a box within the program to have it load when the computer boots) and unchecking that box but moving a shortcut to the programs executable into the startup folder on the start menu.

Is there any difference?

Now........I can load Win ME or lower just fine. I start the computer with a WIN98 setup floppy and choose the "start w/ cd rom support" option and then select the appropriate drive and run setup........all goes fine. After the install........it works great.......but still wont take an upgrade to 2K or XP!!??

Hi everyone. I've got a very strange problem that just began happening out of no where. When browsing the net I can no longer go to websites such as www.zone.com, I can only check my e-mail when I'm lucky and the website decides to load without displaying "the page cannot be displayed" error message. More than half of the images on everyone webpage display as not loadable little X marks, even on this website. When attempting to open random websites after searching on google for example, more than 3/4 of the web pages I click on give me the "page cannot be displayed" msg instantly without even trying to load. This problem just began recently out of no where. Windows firewall has always been off and never had problems untill now. I run Aluria Security Center and have never had problems. I also have tried adding these sites to my trusted list and it does absolutely nothing. Hope you guys can give me a solution. Thanks ahead of time.

Some websites, for example:
http://www.colonialfirstate.com.au/ and
http://postbillpay.com.au

do not load in my newly installed IE7.

The error message says:

This program cannot display the webpage

Most likely causes:
You are not connected to the Internet.
The website is encountering problems.
There might be a typing error in the address.

What you can try:
Check your Internet connection. Try visiting another website to make sure you are connected.
Retype the address.
Go back to the previous page.
More information

But the same websites load OK in Firefox.

I have fiddled around with the security settings etc., but still no joy.

I did not have such a problem with IE6.

I also use Maxthon Browser from time to time. But since that is based on IE engine, even that will not show some websites.

Can somebody suggest a solution?

The only Firewall that I use is WinPatrol. I clean up Malware once in a while with AdAware SE.

A:Websites Will Not Load in IE, But Will Load in Firefox

A few days ago I noticed that some of webpages weren't loading correctly. It was shortly after updating Java. Web pages that I visited like Yahoo, Adobe, and Facebook started to load plain text (no graphics of any sort). The Microsoft site wouldn't load at all until I read instructions somewhere on this forum about enabling secure sites. Most other sites loaded perfectly so I figured it had to be some sort of malware that was blocking me from certain sites. I ran a lot of scans using several anti-malware and anti-virus programs. I ended up finding about 3 trojans that were removed. That didn't solved my problem though. I got fed up and decided to reformat my computer hoping that whatever was wrong with it would get fixed, it didn't. Since I formatted my computer I tried updating Windows but I kept getting an error: "WindowsUpdate_8024402C". Wouldn't work in Normal mode even after I followed the instructions given to solve the error. Figured I'd give it a shot in Safe Mode with Networking, but it still doesn't work. Now I can't access the Microsoft website again. *sigh* I've tried pinging it but my requests keep getting timed out.

After reformatting I uninstalled all the bloatware, and reinstalled updated versions of Java, Adobe Flash Player, and Shockwave (thru majorgeeks as I couldn't download them directly from their sites). I've ran more scans but nothing comes up. I'm thinking maybe there's something wrong with my winsock2 but I'm not touching it O_o. I forgo... Read more
