Enermax annoying safety mechanism?

Q: Enermax annoying safety mechanism?

hey,
i just bought a new computer, and assembled it.
everything works great, except that whenever i unplug the computer and then plug it back, i cant turn it back on again for a while.
No lights, no response, like its not in the socket at all. only after a few minutes of being unplugged it lets me turn it on again.
It was very anooying when i assembled the system, and had to wait for a while between adding stuff.
It really pissed me off when i had a power failure in my house for a second, and couldn't use my computer for about 20 minutes later.
Is this a safety thing from enermax? if it is, is there a way i can get around it? or atleast minimize the wait time?
my system, if u think that it might be somthing else:
Processor: Intel core 2 duo E6400
Motherboard: Asus P5B
Mem: DDR2 512Mb 533MHz CL2 Kingston
Graphics: Sapphire Radeon X1950PRO 256MB PCIe
PSU: Enermax Noisetaker 420W

thanx ahead for any help.

A: Enermax annoying safety mechanism?

I've got the 475W Noisetaker and a 480W Noisetaker II, never had this problem with either of them. I did static discharge on the case of the comp that had the Noisetaker in it once and it wouldn't power on for a few minutes, but I've never had a problem like you are discribing.

I may be off on those wattages, I can't be arsed to check for sure right now. But I'm not off by more than 15, and its not even relavent to your case.

My friend has this power supply and when he boots up his computer it has a red led on the back indicating a low power fault. Apparently this PSU has a minimum supply of 50Watts to operate.

So he has problems starting his comp up. I will get him to take over this thread with specifications of his comp.

Have any of you guys got any ideas how to alleviate his problems?

This is my third problem with a PSU in what is turning into an expensive four months...

My first PSU was an XClio something-or-other that developed a nasty squeal. I bought the Corsair PSU that was recommended and ran into problems. An extra £60 later, Corsair sent me a replacement... which did the same thing (and is consequently going on eBay soon in a vain hope to recoup some of my losses).

My third PSU is a new 1050W Enermax Revolution. Came an hour ago, I've plugged it in, testing it in stages (mobo + GPU, then with hard drives, then three fans, and then all seven), and it fails at the same place the Corsair does - with only three fans plugged in, everything boots. The moment I add one more of my super fans, the PC refuses to boot.

However, this is where things get interesting. The PSU is apparently listed as going up to 1260W, at which the peak amp[-age?] goes up to 104A (from 87A at 1050W). In my anger (I've never had a PSU that works), I decided to do something which I know one should never do - I booted the computer with three fans and plugged the remaining seven back in to the PSU whilst it was ticking along. The result? The damn thing works perfectly... sure, it looks like a stricken whale on a beach, but it works.

EDIT: Forgot to say that with all seven fans plugged in, the light on the back of the PSU goes from orange to red when the PC power on button is pressed.

Now I'm going to assume that in recent years, some PSU manufacturers have decide... Read more

Just wondering how I would properly connect an Enermax
(EG365P-VE) power supply to an Asus A7V133 motherboard.

The present power supply I have is a generic brand.

I was wondering in particular how to connect the temp sensors on the motherboard. Reason for this is that the Enermax website shows there being a fan speed control knob on the back of the PS whereas mine does not have one of those.

Thanks

You should have a connector labeled PWR_FAN at the very edge of the board near the ATX power connector close the the RAM DIMM slots. Here is a link for the manual.

Recently, using FF 2.0.0.16 on my Vista Ultimate 32 bit computer, I notices popup ads from c5.zedo.com, when I visited a web page. The pop ups appeared if I left OR right clicked on a text area. The mouse pointer remained a pointer; had not changed to hand with extended index finger.

I verified that FF's popup blocker is / was on. I removed all exceptions & restarted the PC. Same problem. I viewed the page source, searched for zedo and found it related to java script.

I turned off Java, rebooted & the problem went away.

This did NOT occur using IE 7.

I stopped the popups by using the modified hosts file from mvps.org. Because the .bat procedure used by the mvps author to replace the hosts file failed in the past, I copied the contents of the modified hosts from mvps.org & pasted the contents into my hosts file, rebooted & success occurred. I had re-enabled java in FF.

I hope this information is useful to anyone else who encounters the phenomenon.

Firefox's popup blocker does not block all popups, although it does its best. The best way to block ads and the rest of the popups would be to use the Firefox AdBlock Plus extension.

Also, Java is not the same thing as Javascript. They are completely different, and I'm assuming you disabled JavaScript, not Java. However, you don't want to completely disable JavaScript because almost every modern website uses it in some way or another. AdBlock Plus should block the ads, but you can also use NoScript to block all JavaScript on a per-site basis.

I can print a test page but when it gets to the bottom of the page thats when it gets locked up. I try to align it but Its printing sideways like the cradle is out of alignment but its screwed in tight plus the lines are overlapping each other like theres a problem with the ink. The ink has 75% left. I sold it and took it over there one day after work so it sat in my car so I think maybe the heat inside the car may have did something. The lady I sold it to just moved and I think they may have dropped it cause theres a black scuff mark on the corner but she said she didn't. I had to give her money back so now I'm left with a broken printer.

There seems to be a long delay between the time I give the order to search, and the time the search command is actually executed.

What can I do to eliminate this delay?

Hi Team,
May I know how does windows time works?
During system boot up, after BIOS transfers the ownership to windows, does windows get the time value from CMOS RTC?
After that, how does windows time tick-tock? using PCH's HPET(High Precision Event Timer) or CPU's TSC(Time Stamp Counter)?
Does any interrupt or events will cause windows time pause? such as SMI?
Any documents from windows to explain this mechanism.
If I have to debug an issue relative with windows time, any way to monitor this time during system boot up?
it is a data structure or run time register reading or something else?
Thanks,

Good morning.

I'm a third year university student and for one of my assignments, I am to write a research report based on the question 'Are Passwords an Effective Security Mechanism'. I have focused the research on biometric and traditional (alphanumeric combination) passwords. Also, I am required to obtain some primary research which can be argued against my secondary research to form some sort of conclusion, and to do this, I have decided that a questionnaire is the perfect solution.

I would appreciate it if some of you would take the opportunity to complete my questionnaire as you will be helping me out a lot. It will take no more than 2 minutes to complete. Also, I would be interested in hearing your thoughts and opinions on biometric and traditional passwords, regarding their security.

The survey can be found here - https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/VMS7XPD

I apologise if this is in the wrong section or breaks a rule. I have checked the rules out and I believe it doesn't break the advertising rule, but it might to you guys.

Thanks in advance.

A:Are Passwords an Effective Security Mechanism

The user is the first and last line of defense. Strong passwords can be effective security measure. Unfortunately, it has been proven time and again that the user is a more substantial factor (weakest link) in security than the architecture of the operating system or installed protection software. Security is all about layers, and not depending on any one technology or approach to detect or save you from the latest threats. The most important layer in that security defense? You! Most threats succeed because they take advantage of human weaknesses (laziness, apathy, ignorance, etc.), and less because of their sophistication.Krebs on SecurityThese were the worst passwords of 2015, and they're only getting worseThis List Of 2014s Worst Passwords, Including 123456, Is EmbarrassingIts 2014 And Our Passwords Arent Getting BetterThe 25 Worst Passwords of 2013

Is there any built in mechanism in Windows 7 during the fresh installation that all files are copied successfully from DVD to hard drive? or as long as Windows 7 completes the installation no matter how fast/slow it takes, one can assumed that all files are copied successfully?

Mine took about 25 mins, but during the installation lots of long pauses while reading/copying files from my 4X DVR+RW to hard drive as if Windows couldn't find files or constantly waiting from the rewritable 4X DVR+RW), but it eventually competed the installation in 25 mins none the less without giving out any error messages.

My email client, desktop program PostBox (for Win) has been slowed since I installed BD TS2016 (I'm quite sure this is the reason as it was very fast before, and slowed immediately after...)

I also run WebRoot AV (which does not scan email as per their documentation) and HitmanAlertPro (which could also be affecting my email client, but I uninstalled it to test this somewhat small chance given its just an anti-exploit, and it doesn't seem to have affected it, the client is still slow).

1. I would LIKE BD to scan my email as of course having AV w/o scanning email could in many ways be pointless given email can be a deadly vector for heavy malware.

2. But I don't want my client to be slow. It's not horrible, and I suppose I could tolerate it (basically deleting messages, loading new messages, and the program responsiveness overall, is a bit sluggish compared with its normal instantaneous response)

3. Is there a way to configure email scanning differently? Or should the program NOT be slowing my client noticeably in general, and is this behavior indicative of something being wrong?

I'm sure BD users will be able to comment on whether it slows their email or not given they use a desktop client like Outlook, Postbox, Thunderbird, etc.

Thanks!

Hello everyone

I have a topic/question that has been on my mind for a while now.
I was browsing through flea market electronics section one day and I noticed this pretty new keyboard. I looked specifications and it
even had ARM processor. It was pretty cheap too. This however raised my general question about safety of these devices. I don't know
much about how USB communicates with hardware so correct me if I state something wrong.

Using keyboard as point of reference(I think this might apply to almost every USB device), how easy would it be to modify this keyboard to do malicious actions(motives aside)? I would imagine that the easiest way would
be modifying keyboards firmware.

So let's say I plug this keyboard to my PC. It's Windows 7 32bit. I can imagine at least two scenarios:

Keyboard plugged while PC is off and then is turned on

At this point there is no OS managing the hardware so the malicious keyboard is communicating with CPU directly(correct me if I'm wrong).
You can install new OS from USB so you must have access to harddisk at this point so you could, for example plant rootkit there for kernel to load. Or just wipe the whole disk
for fun.

Keyboard plugged while PC is on(OS is loaded)

Would this make difference the first scenario or does OS interfere some way? OS detects new devices so the device might disguise itself as someway or just
register itself as keyboard and let OS setup generic driver for it. If generic d... Read more

A:USB Device Safety

Let's not over-complicate it.

It is possible to add memory to a keyboard to host malware, though prohibitively expensive considering the likely reward. Extremely unlikely unless you are being targeted specifically for valuable information. (ie: military, research, etc...)

If you wanted to be sure that no application from outside your system could run on your system you can always set up a restricted execution policy. (ie: executables only in program files and windows directories are allowed to execute). This also stops most malware. An easy way to implement this is with Cryptoprevent, if you don't want to get into all the fun and games of creating group policy and local policy objects.

To eliminate the possibility of having 2nd hand USB storage devices infect your Windows system with malware simply turn off Autorun/Autoplay and format the USB devices before using them.

Not sure if this is the correct place to post this question.

I have been having problems with someone online. She has taken a disliking to me for some reason and over the past 6 months or so has caused me a lot of trouble.

There is an ez board forum I visit where I knew she was a member but was told that was all she was. Because of problems on the forum (abusive posts etc) I had cause to contact the site staff via private message, email, msn. However, I have since found out that this person is actually the Site Manager and that my emails to and MSN conversations with the other site staff have been forwarded to her.

I have also been accused of sending another member of the forum abusive private messages and emails - I have never sent either.

My main questions are:-

1. can someone alter my emails/msn conversations before forwarding them to other people?

2. as the site manager could she log into my account and send private messages/emails to another
member, from me, without me knowing?

3. what can I do to protect myself online in this sort of situation?
I have blocked her on MSN but the forum is something that is important to me and I do not want to stop being part of it.

I welcome any advice on what I can do.

There is a lot of history with this person that I am not going to go into but this is really starting to upset me but do not know what I can do about it.

Thank you

A:Privacy And Safety

Question 1. Yes. Altering text before forwarding is rather simple to do.
Question 2. I am no expert, but I suspect as site manager, she could certainly do this.
Question 3. This is not the kind of board or forum I would return to, especially if I had been having consistent problems with what was being said/written, and thought that the staff was completely unprofessional in its conduct. No matter how important the board might be to me, I would certainly search for a replacement; and given the massive nature of the internet, I am sure I could find one in the twinkling of an eye.

I am going to be upgrading my combo firewall/antivirus program (Kaspersky Internet Security). I kmow I have to go to my add/remove programs section in Windows XP to delete the 2009 version first. Am I supposed to be off the internet when I delete the older version? I know I have to restart my computer afterwards.
And I know I am to remain off the internet while downloading my new version from the cd.
I realize Windows will be giving me the urgent, annoying little message balloon that my system is at risk until the download is complete+updated.
I just unplug the cable from my modem to get off the internet entirely as there is no on/off switch.
Does it make a big difference to be on or off the internet when I delete the current version?
Thanks
honu1

A:Best safety procedure?

I would unplug the cable modem before you uninstall it as you will be unprotected until after you install the new version.Kaspersky probably has an uninstall program that would be better to use than the uninstall from add/remove programs. Look in you Kaspersky folder for it and if there is not one there, look on their website for it.I cannot find an uninstall tool for it on their site and they do recommend using the add/remove programs method. If you would rather use the uninstall tool, I found a link to it in one of the pinned topics here. http://www.raymond.cc/blog/archives/2009/0...ware/#more-2878The one for Kaspersky is number eight on the page

Hello everyone~

I'm just here to ask a question. So my friend recently recommended a program that "increases file download speed" and me being a sucker for that cause I don't have that much net speed I decided to check out Jdownloader from Jdownloader.org.

Now I haven't installed it yet because I wanted anyone's opinion on it before I do. Is it safe? Does it have malware? (Because I've seen a lot of posts in forums about its safety issues) Does it really make net speed faster?
Thanks!

A:MS Safety Scanner

Hello and welcome -
You leave very little detail on the type(s) of infection found by Microsoft Safety Scanner
Please list the name(s) of the program(s) that M/soft Scanner finds, but has problems removing.

More so, you leave no detail on your Operating System and your currently Installed Security programs.

NOW -
Please run this small program so we can see what security you have installed, and if your computer is safe.

Download Screen317 Security Check and Save it to your Desktop.

Greetings !

I have been using a broadband connection at home, since sometime , it is a sort of a network of individual subscribers. the connectivity is ok.

These are the few things that I have noticed since I got the connection

1.When I go into start and click on printers and faxes I have observed sometimes that there are about 4 to 5 printers showing up with people names and I have just my printer installed.

2. When I go to start -connect to -show all connections there are many connections apart from mine and then suddenly all of them vanish.

3.Today I found a lot of email addresses added to my contact list and I have not done so, nor do I know the people .

4. I play Americas Army , sometimes i get a call from the tech support of my internet provider that, I am transmitting some nos like 255.2555.255.255 and they fear it is a virus, although I have argued that since it does not duplicate or cause any harm how could it be ?? I have scanned my system and no problem whatsoever .

My questions are:

1.My biggest concern is security,I don't have vital data at home but still my digital photographs ,personal mail of my wife and child etc, I suppose nobody likes prying eyes, do my above points
say that someone is getting into my system or is it natural?

2.Say there are some files that I have chosen to hide as properties - hidden . will these files be visible to any hacker getting into my system??

3.Can any person get into my system while I am gaming ?

My friend's laptop has gotten a virus? a couple of viruses? something?
None of the antivirus programs can be used, so I used ctrl+alt+del and found a program named msa.exe.
I researched it online and found out it's a malicious program.
I looked at the tutorials but it requires me to use antivirus programs (which I can't).

So yeah... I really don't know how to fix it because:
1) None of the antivirus programs work, even after I renamed them
2) When I reinstall antivirus programs, they work but close when they find the/those virus...or whatever it is :/
3) I can't do anything on Safe Mode
4) It created an admin account
5) I try using HijackThis to scan it, but then it closes when the virus is found which makes me unable to create a log
6) Even Abexo registry cleaner doesn't work...like wtf. x_x
7) I tried deleting the viruses manually...but they all returned when I restarted
8) I can't reformat because the os cd is gone :|

Thanks in advance...and I hope this can be solved since my friend can't afford a new laptop.

I'd like to know whether the function to block URLs in Family Safety (part of Live Essentials) would affect Internet Explorer only or system wide (on all browsers)?

Also, if I want to block certain user accounts to view and edit a specific folder, is it possible?

A:Family Safety

Hi there linux convert, welcome to Sevenforums.

Can't comment on Family Safety, as I don't use it.

However, blocking certain user accounts from viewing/editing certain folders can certainly be done.

We have two ways of doing this, both are one pretty much the same way, but it can be done per user or by group, (which you will be familiar with I trust, from using Linux)

They say a picture speaks a thousand words, so I'll do a quick "screen by screen" tutorial on how to do it, and post it in a second

Welcome to TSG

You can remove it. AOL's "security" software isn't that great anyway.
Make sure you have an active anti-virus program and firewall. (There are free ones available).

There are also many free anti-spyware programs too.

I would llke to install an external HDD to protect my system and data on a real time basis,
I read about Clickfree C6, is it ok or something better?

A:Solved: Question about safety

Amazon reviews seem to be very mixed on this product. The good reviews are very good, but I get concerned when I read that backup hardware fails, especially when customer service claims that a key update was missing from the software for the device. Also, there are claims of this device erasing entire backups, worse not just a single isolated claim.

This should be as simple as simple can be. Maybe you would be better off buying an external hard drive caddy and buying a standard hard drive. If you save a little money you could then spend on a really sturdy real time disk imager program.

Going another route, I don't know if your system is RAID compatible, but that system is the one that seems to have been the most reliable over the years. You can check in your BIOS to see if you have RAID compatibility. Here's a good article on the subject:

http://lifehacker.com/352472/set-up-real+time-bulletproof-backup-drive-redundancy-with-raid

For certain, if you are in any doubt about whether to spend money on backup, do spend the money.

not sure if this should go into general security or networking..........

I have a membership on a dating website and the person hacking my computer knows my username as they have seen me using the site while they were connected remotely. I cleaned my computer of any RATs, but my concern is that they could 'rig' a malware link to my inbox so that after i log in, once i hit INBOX, a RAT auto-executes and they are on my computer again (and for as long as i use that site).

I am very aware of having a very strong password, but expert hackers say they can break any password with software - so i've been told. I've had passwords that were 30-60 characters, with half symbols, and they have been hacked.

As far as the site, which is my only real question, if i change the password again, they can probably hack it again, but more importantly, if there is a link already set up to my inbox, obviously this wouldn't do any good and i would have to start a new account. But then they could set up a link to the people i'm talking with and see what my new username is and then hack into my new account and create another link to my inbox.

So....if i hire an expert hacker, how difficult would it be for the expert hacker to create a RAT link to my inbox?

May sound paranoid but they are constantly sending me spoofed emails that auto-execute if i open them....so paranoid, but actually happening at the same time.

thanks

I also stopped the scan half way through once and noticed that the sheild logo in the uninstall program list was just blank white sqaure and only about half of the size of the program was there and when I uninstall it I get a message saying it didnt uninstall correctly and gives me to options to choose from Something else I noticed that was funny was one time I highlighted it but didnt uninstall and came back and the program was no longer listed in the list. hi,

few time ago you can find Microsoft Safety Scanner : http://www.01net.com/telecharger/windows/Securite/antivirus-antitrojan/fiches/112842.html

"Microsoft Safety Scanner offers Windows users an antivirus tool to remove viruses detected on demand. The application uses an ad hoc basis, ie it does not protect the system permanently. You can use Microsoft Safety Scanner when a virus is suspected to be present on the job, but the resident protection does not detect or has been disabled by malware. The software can be downloaded with the latest virus definitions to date, the same as Microsoft Security Essentials. Finally, Microsoft Safety Scanner allows for three types of analysis: fast (system files), complete (all files), custom (only selected files)."

A:Microsoft Safety Scanner

This has been around for a few years now, and can be download via the following link:
http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

There is also Windows Defender Offline which scans outside of Windows.
"The Microsoft Safety Scanner is designed for scanning your system for malicious programs without having to reboot it. While more difficult strains of malware may require reboot your computer with Windows Defender Offline (via CD or Flash drive) to scan and remove that malicious software."http://www.jasonsavitt.info/article...osoft-safety-scanner-which-one-should-you-use

Changes are coming to Microsoft family features

We have started rolling out changes to the way you manage your family and set boundaries for how your kids spend their time online and on their devices. Not all these changes are coming at once ? but we wanted to let you know what you can expect in the upcoming months.

A simpler, more friendly web experience

We?ve redesigned the family site to be friendlier and more intuitive, and we?ve simplified some features. Now, you will be able to manage your family in one place ? visit http://account.microsoft.com/family to see all your family accounts, see the settings for each child in your family and make changes to their settings online. Some recent changes you can expect to see:

The recent activity page has been redesigned to show the most relevant information in prime position.
Setting website restrictions is now simpler. When restrictions are turned on, all adult content is blocked. You can still allow or block individual websites, of course.
Managing app & game restrictions is now more intuitive. Set your child?s age so they?ll only be able to acquire apps & games that are rated as appropriate for their age. You can also block individual apps or games.
Managing child accounts has changed. The feature that allowed you to link accounts has been removed as most of our users found it confusing. If you previously linked accounts together to manage all their settings at once, you?ll now need to manage the set... Read more

MSN's scanner does not get alot of publicity. Interested to know of others' experience, pro or con. Probably the same as Windows Defender ?

It's not the same as Windows Defender. The Microsoft Safety Scanner is a free portable downloadable standalone EXE security tool that provides on-demand scanning and helps remove viruses, spyware, and other malicious software. It works with your existing antivirus software.

Hi, new to the forum and newbie-level in knowledge despite using Linux and having more than a decade of using computers. As in, I know as much as the average user, maybe, but nothing on hardware. So, sorry if this sounds like a stupid question.

I'd just found out that computers have toxic parts, and am just wondering:

I have some old laptops and parts (flash drives, hard drives, etc.). Are the levels of these metals in a few (2-3?) flash drives, laptops and hard drives high enough to be considered toxic? Anything else I should watch out for?

I want to store a bunch of old computers, laptops, flash drives and hard drives from old laptops until I get the time to sort them out to resell them, but I live in the tropics, and don't know how to store them properly. Should I be worried about heat? And I held and will hold internal parts (the internal hard drives taken out of old laptops) barehanded--is that okay? Or it's not dangerous unless they're broken up? Is there a difference between internal hard drives and the internal parts of flash drives?

I have used the Second Nature screensavers for years. They pride
themselves on being totally malware free and they provide regular updates for their installer.

However they recently they have announced that the website would
close. They advised their customers to copy their screensavers on a DVD or a Flash Drive for use in case of reformatting or a new PC. (I
have done this).

Will these screensavers continue to be safe after the website closes and the installer is not updated?

On my Windows 7 - I use Kasperssky Anti-Virus and Windows Defender.
Thank you for your help.

A:'Safety of Second Nature screensavers

Hi and welcome to SevenForums cygpet,

I see no reason why the screensavers would not be safe to use once you have saved them. What format are the files? How large are they?

If they are less than 32MB in size, I would scan the copies you have already downloaded using this reputable online scanner, as an additional insurance policy:

If you need more help, or have additional questions, post back here.

Since experiencing an attack by rogue malware namely < windows active guard > (many, many thanks to this forum for the tutorial on recovery procedures), I am always looking for avenues to improve security. My OS is 7x64 IE9. Currently have MSE as my stand alone and in the tool box I have on demand MBAM, SAS. To ensure that I keep programs current I also have Secunia PSI. I have considered downloading SANDBOXIE, but according to Microsoft not recommended as it's third party and may damage some components.(comments from MS Tech). Realizing that no system is 100% secure are there any further steps or procedures that would add more layers of security. Thanks for any input and recommendations.

I have an elderly friend that got the internet safety 2010 worm/trojan whatever it is. I downloaded and ran Ad-aware se which didn't find it, but it may not have been updated. Then I ran Spybot S&D and it found several issues which I told it to fix and rerun on startup. Now the computer won't boot completely. It brings up the desktop but no icons and start menu is not available. If I leave it alone it will eventually go back to the log in screen.

I tried booting in safe mode and it goes to the log in screen and when I click on the user it flashes to a black screen and back to the log in screen.

The computer is running XP media center edition.....

Hello,

Earlier today I tried redirecting my .net URL to my myspace profile. I hadn't done this before and it didn't work - the company I use told me I could only redirect my URL to the root page ie myspace.com, not an individual profile like myspace.com/xxxxx.

So I got myself a free subdomain to use for forwarding with a website called come.sc and set up the following path: visitors to my .net url go through to my free come.sc subdomain and from there get sent to my myspace page. It works, it's fast and my .net URL stays in the browser throughout.

My question regards the safety of this. By using these free subdomain sites to redirect users, am I putting my clients at risk? I don't know of any way that I am but I wanted to ask for advice. Is there someway people putting their password into myspace could be at risk when they've gone through such a system?

Thanks in advance.

Im not sure if this in the right topic but it is security related.

After repeated crashes to my system when using Kazaa I have been trying to seek alternative ways of safely transfering files
,if this at all possible, i decided to purchase a firewall/router in replace of the software equivilant in order to try and step up the security.

Ive been looking into the uses of mIRC and after reading documents it would seem that this is no better as it has to have the ability to use random ports when using the DCC and so this leaves lots of vulnerability.

My question is when using the mIRC chat rooms are you still velnerably or is it possible to set up so it only connects to certain computers and ports or does it have to access to any computers /port to utilise the chat room. And is it possible to use the DCC with safety in mind.

Any guidance or help on this would be apreciated

Would the safest way be to use FTP programs like Flashfxp where you can specify the computer and port?

Hello, I am running Windows 7 on a laptop my system specifications are as follow:

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) Duo CPU T1800 @ 2.10 GHz
RAM: 4 GB
System: Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bit

About three days ago I was online looking reviews for District 9 after watching it on TV and I received an insane amount of popups: http://img52.imageshack.us/img52/5615/desktoppica.png

Then this program came up and reported that:
Critical Error!
Damaged hard drive clusters detected. Private data is at risk.Click to expand...

Critical Error
RAM memory usage is critically high. RAM memory failure.Click to expand...

System Error
An error occurred while reading system files. Run a system diagnostic utility to check your hard disk drive for errors.Click to expand...

The name of this program was called System Check and is disguised to look like an asset of Windows. I only figured this out after falling for it to "Scan my system". It only reported it could not 'fix' my 'problems' and I needed to register the product for it to 'fix' them.

At first I thought that my laptop was overheating so I turned it off waited for it to cool and restarted only to see the problem persisted. So then...skeptical. I googled, "System Check fake" and this was the first page to come up: http://malwaretips.com/Thread-Remove-System-Check-Fake-AV

Now, I'd like to fancy myself a scrupulous PC user. I regularly scan my computer with Ad-Aware and AVG, clean ... Read more

I currently have AVG anti-virus (free) and a no longer updating version of Norton anti-virus installed and running on my computer. I know 2 of these programs can cause conflict, thats why I want to uninstall norton.

However, every so often, I get a notification (from Norton) that a trojan horse (Deep Throat) was blocked from entering my system.

I ran scans with AVG, Malwarebytes, Spywareblaster and spybot, and at the moment they are all telling my my computer is clean. I also have ZoneAlarm installed, but it's still Norton blocking the trojan.

I was wondering if I could get some advice about what to do here.

Are AVG and Norton really prone to conflict?
If I unistall Norton, will ZoneAlarm cover this blocking routine?
Do I need any additional Security programs?
Should I be carefull about any other possible conflicts?
