Issues installing WiDi on Dell Latitude E6230

Q: Issues installing WiDi on Dell Latitude E6230

Has anyone else been getting this stupid no error message when trying to install WiDi on a recent laptop?
The laptop does originally come with WiDi working perfectly but as I am in the school department we are running a custom windows 7 32x Pro OS.
The specs are:
i5-3320m CPU (HD4000)
Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 AGN Wireless apapter

A: Issues installing WiDi on Dell Latitude E6230

You have to make sure that the WiDi driver is compatible with this laptops hardware. If it is, the internal WiDi adapter may be bad

I have an original Novatel Wireless Expedite EU870D (it was purchased a several years ago from official Novatel's dealer) and it works fine in my old Dell Latitude D630.
Now I'm using Dell Latitude E6230 and would like to install it from D630 to E6230.
Will Novatel Wireless Expedite EU870D work in my E6230?
Thanks beforehand.

A:WWAN for Dell Latitude E6230

The hardware should be fine -- assuming  there are drivers for it if the system upgrade involves a change of operating system.

Hi there,
My dell latitude e6230 is not booting. The power and CAP button light up and they go off 14 seconds after pressing power button. The screen is completely blank and I cannot hear any response from CPU fan and internal mechanical hard drive. Would be good if someone here can help to advise the status of my laptop. Thank you very much!!!

A:My dell latitude e6230 is not booting

Basic troubleshooting:  disconnect all external devices, unplug the system and remove or disconnect the main battery.  Hold the power button for 30 seconds, remove the base cover and remove and reinstall both memory modules.  Try powering up on AC only (no battery).  If it will, but won't with the battery connected, replace the battery with a new one.  If it still won't boot up, replace the mainboard.

My laptop does is not booting now, all of a sudden, after it went for a reset with some igdmk64.sys error/failure.
When I press the power button, the HDD LED just blinks once briefly and there is no further activity. I presume it is not even loading the bios (as I dont see anything on the screen).
I tried the static discharge step (remove battery & power adapter, hold power for 20-30 sec, put back adapter and try power button wt fn key to enter diagnostics OR put battery & adapter and try poer button to see led etc - but no success).
When I put the battery & power adapter and press the power on button, the HDD LED blinks for a moment (and goes off permanently) and the Power LED stays on forever.  There is no further action of any sort.  The LED status is as follows (after that initial HDD LED flash):HDD LED; OFFPower LED: ON / SOLIDWireless LED: OFFWhat is the way forward to make this lappie boot up now? Pl. suggest the approach/steps.

A:My latitude e6230 does not boot - not even till dell logo

Unplug the system, remove or disconnect the battery and hold the power button for 30 sec.  Remove and reinstall both memory modules and the hard drive.
Try powering up on AC only  - if it will but won't with the battery, the battery is bad.
If it still won't power up, remove the hard drive and see if you can get to a POST screen.  If you can, the hard drive has failed.
If you still get nothing, the mainboard has failed.

I need to replace my old HDD in Latitude E6230.
I found in local store one model of 500 Gb HDD, but I need to be sure if it is compatible with my E6230.
Does Seagate Momentus 5400.6 (ST9500325AS, PN: 9HH134-500) compatible with Dell Latitude E6230?
Thanks beforehand.

Hi guys,
I'd like to use the Intel Wifi Direct software for screen mirroring to Samsung TV, but looks like I'm in dead end. I've downloaded the software for WiDi, but it did not install due to my laptop did not meet program requirements - so I've googled and it came out I've got too old drivers. Updated them from official Dell driver support, and here comes the problem - it requires Graphics driver over 15.36.xx and if I choose my laptop model I got 10.xx driver and then 20.xx. 10.xx installs, 20.xx cannot. If i manually search for drivers for Intel HD4400 graphics then there are 15.36.xx drivers, but I cannot install them. Any idea how to skip that?

On last week, my laptop latitude E6230 got wet by some water.
First, I got it dry and still function well except got the screen brightness control got problem can't adjust.
Follow by after 2 days, the power jack got problems. Can't detect the electric, battery function well but didn't charge. And after battery run off, I use the power cord but still can't on it.
p/s: battery and power cord are well function, so I suspect is power cord problem.
Anything ideas? Is that still able to repair??

A:Latitude E6230

It's unlikely the adapter is the (only) problem -- but it's worth trying a new one.  If that doesn't solve the problem, it's the mainboard that will need to be replaced.

I purchased a used Latitude E6230 laptop from my employer. They took out the HDD and I have a new one to install. Apparently an adapter is needed to convert the HDD SATA (horizontal) to the motherboard SATA (vertical).
Unfortunately I can't find it on DELL's site. Any idea how I can solve this? Thanks.

A:Latitude E6230 HDD SATA adapter

You need a HDD SATA interposer: Y5GVV - BRIDGE, CONVERTER, SATA TO MB, E6220
I've ordered a compatible one here:
And it works fine.
P.S.: Or you could search "hdd interposer E6230" or "SATA interposer E6230" or even "E6230" and choose needed part from one of the stores you like.

Recently my Latitude E6230 battery indicator started blinking....
amber - off - white - off - amber - off - white - off ...
This happens when I'm running off the battery (extended battery, not sure exactly what it is) or when I'm plugged in. Sometimes it won't start until some time after a full charge, but the indicator seems to say I have about 6-plus hours of life left at 80% and doesn't seem to be discharging quickly. It's holding a charge well, but the battery indicator persists in blinking.
Any suggestions?

Hi Cjsebes,
Thanks for writing to us.
Please update the BIOS if not yet.
Also let us know the battery health status in windows and also the ac adapter status in BIOS.
Usually it indicates the battery is charging.
Does the blinking once the battery charges 100%??

I've been all over the dell site, all over google, and I can't find a problem similar to mine! I recently procured a dell latitude cpx j w/ a PIII 650 and win98 installed. The HDD was bad, and I ended up replacing it and the HDD caddy. The whole reason this came up was I was trying to upgrade to XP. I have tried to install XP about 6 times on the new HDD, all to no avail. I see CPx j's w/ XP for sale, so I know it's possible. Here's the actual problem. while installing XP from CD, it consistantly freezes while "installing devices" with about 35-37 minutes left to complete the install. All Dell Diagnostics have been run, with only a PCMCIA error. There is no PCMCIA card installed, so I don't believe this is the problem. I am running Dell BIOS v. A16. The new HDD is 40G, and I have tried upgrading to XP from a fresh Win 98SE install, all with the same result: 36 minutes left on the install and it freezes. I really don't feel like paying hundreds of dollars for a punching bag!!! Please help, anyone!!!

A:Trouble installing XP on Dell Latitude CPxJ

I have the same model laptop and have installed XP (originally Windows 2000 Pro). I would have to guess that it's either the PCMCIA error or the upgrade. Try disabling the PCMCIA in BIOS and then doing the upgrade -- although you're probably better off doing a full XP install rather than up upgrade.

So my company purchased a Dell Latitude E7240 laptop with the E-Port docking station (the one with just 1 DVI/VGA connection).  The laptop is fine by itself but it has issues when we undock it and then re-dock it.  The problem is that the user (just happens to be the President of the company :() has 7 or so USB devices and since the docking station only has 5 ports available, we bought a separate USB hub for her (and the USB hub has its own AC adapter).

So if she has the laptop in the docking station docked and turns on the laptop, everything is fine.  However, whenever she undocks it and then docks it again none of the USB devices work.  The problem is that it doesn't happen every time she undocks and re-docks but enough that it is extremely annoying.  Also when this happens, the laptop won't restart or shut down without any just hangs at "shutting down Windows" screen.  I have to manually hold down the power button to get it to shut off.

We have had a Dell tech come out and swap out the motherboard on the laptop and that seemed to fix the issue but a day or two later the issue cropped up again.  I just received a new docking station from Dell and swapped it out but, again, still having the issue.

The laptop is Win. 7 64bit OS load; has all the latest drivers that I know else with the similar experience and/or any thoughts on how to fix this?

A:Dell Latitude E7240 issues

We are having issues as well with the Latitude E7240 and e-port express docking stations.  I have NEVER had problems with Dell docks in the past 6 years until we recently received this combination of e7240 laptops and e-port express docking stations.  Our problem is intermittently losing multi-monitor displays when our users re-dock the laptop.  We also have a problem where sometimes if a user docks the laptop in a certain way it will cause the laptop to lock up.  We've also found if you tap the right side of the dock with your finger that it will cause the screens to go black and sometimes the laptop will lock up.  We have more than 10 of these combos deployed and another 10-20 getting ready to be deployed so it's making me nervous.  This has shattered my notion that Dell's laptop/dock combos were nearly bulletproof.

I have a rather harmless question concerning an odd problem that has been occurring with the headphone jack on my Dell Latitude laptop. When I start up the computer and want to use the headphones, it works perfectly fine. I can even choose between using the speakers or the headphones interchangeably. However, the issues come in when I receive communication from microphones on other computers. For instance, when playing in an online game, the headphones will work until somebody says something using a microphone through the voice chat client. At this point, all sound exits the headphones and comes out of the speakers regardless of whether the headphones are still plugged in or not.

I can make a quick fix by restarting the computer, but then the cycle begins again. Like I said, it's a pretty harmless problem. Thanks ahead of time.

i recently purchased a second hand dell cheep
and now the display has kinda blue lines through it
i have a dell inspiron 4100
they are both model# PP01L
is the actual display the same
will the mobo interchange from one to the other?
it seems a waste to forfeit both computers when one is a two ghz system
i would rather put the mobo in the inspiron, it looks cooler but, form follows function
i know that there are enough dells out there saturating the market somebody has replaced or noticed its similarities such as the connector from the display or mounting socket
or it's if it is the display, maybe i can swap them out.
im thinking its the actual piece of tape or ribbon connector
but the inspiron has a smaller board that connects to the mobo
i dont know as of yet whether they will interchange.
on the outside there's not much difference
what do you think
as always thanks

I have been trying to install the wireless printer drivers for my HP PhotoSmart C410a printer to my new Dell Latitude E5570 for the last 4 days.  After the drivers download, the installation is stopped with the following message from HP: "This computer does not have the necessary USB software/hardware support to allow completion of a USB installation. The installation cannot continue until this is resolved. Required Action: In order to install this device as a USB device, please refer to your computer documentation or USB add-in card documentation." Note when I plug in the printer to my Latitude's USB port, the correct USB software installed and I am able to print okay, but when unplugged, not the case.  I have tried the HP Print and Scan doctor, it recognizes that the wireless printer drivers are not installed, but I get the same message above when trying to install.  I also tried disabling my Windows firewall to install the printer drivers, but received the same message.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.  Thanks.

OK so I have a 3 year old Dell latitude d530 running windows xp pro, and recently my ac adapter seemed to die. It seemed to work when i would wiggle the plug around, but then it stopped charging completely. So I figured I would buy a new charger since the old one wouldn't even light up anymore, and for a while everything worked fine. Then the same problem starts up again! ac adapter is still on, led light is still activated, but the laptop screen darkens and says I am now running on battery power. My battery itself seems to be ok as it still holds a charge for well over 4 hours, but I'm really just not sure whats wrong here. The laptop itself works just fine, no errors, not even the 'unknown adapter, use a dell adapter' error message. I was thinking maybe my ac jack was loose? Any help would be very useful to me.

I'm slightly confused as to what the issue is if the charger works fine, and the laptop can hold the charge for at least 4 hours. Please be a bit specific and I can help you out.

OK So I have this really frustrating issue maybe one of you guys can help me with... So I installed Windows 8.1 on my Dell Latitude XT and so far everything has been going great except for this one issue... Whenever I turn on my computer or restart it once it is loaded I can't connect to the internet... The computer connects to the WiFi network just fine but if I open Internet Explorer or the Windows Store or anything else then it just says unable to connect. What fixes it is going to Internet Options and resetting everything... Then everything works fine until the next reboot... I can't figure out what is going on... Everything works perfectly until I reboot then I can't connect to any websites until I reset Internet Options... Obviously there is a setting or something that is messing it up but I can't figure out what it is... On another note this started when I installed "Dell Quickset" which is the program that controls the Tablet PC buttons on the front and a bunch of other features... Would appreciate any assistance you guys can provide...
Update: It is so weird... I can access the Windows Store but can't get any pictures... Internet Explorer doesn't work at all but Google Chrome does albeit slowly... It's like it's only blocking certain Windows Servers... ?????

A:Internet Issues with Windows 8.1 and a Dell Latitude XT

I bought a E6230 64-bit with Windows 7 Pro two months ago.  I'm having problems trying to get the fingerprint software and tpm module to work.  I also have a side problem with the touchpad.  It seems that the touchpad has some conflict with the fingerprint software.  Once I install the fingerprint software and get the pre-boot login to work the touchpad freezes up.  The only work around is to uninstall the Dell touchpad software.  The touchpad still works as a mouse but not with all the fancy options.  Now the windows logon and pre-boot logon work but the tpm module is still unavailable even though the bios is set to activated and the tpm v1.2 device driver is installed and working and the tpm.msc snapin says the tpm is on and ownership has been taken.  The Data Protection Access app reports the that TPM is unavailable.  Also the NTRU service refuses to start.  It keeps complaining about either a different service not available or marked for deletion.
On the Dell E6230 support page there under Dell Data Protection there are two application packages but no firmware updates.  How do I get the right firmware update for the application on the support page.

Please help!

A:Dell Latitude d610 Wireless Driver issues

Since no one else has made an attempt at answering, I will give it a try.

Can I assume the network adapter is integrated with the motherboard? I have seen people add a PCI network adapter to their computer when one already existed. If that's the case, you need drivers for that card or plug your CAT-5 cable into the motherboard port.

If you are plugging into the motherboard port and it is not working, I would add a network card to a PCI slot and load the drivers. It's not like the card is a huge capital outlay and could easily fix your problem.

I hope all works out for you. Have a nice weekend.

We recently purchased some Dell Latitude D830 laptops and are using them on a Windoows XP system.

Each laptop has a docking station and USB mouse.

The issue is that some users are experiencing a type of "jumping" of their mouse pointer. They could be moving fine then it would just stop, and then reappear somewhere else on the page.

So far we have:
Replaced the mouse.
Replaced the laptop.
Re-imaged the laptop.
Replaced the user's profile.
Removed the docking station.
Swapped the jumper cables at the workstaion and in the server room.
Tried a ps/2 mouse.

Nothing has helped.

Has anyone else had this problem and if you so, how did you resolve it?

Thanks for any help.

Hello All,
This is absolute madness. I have a Latitude E6540.x64. 8G Ram. Win10, (updated, patched). All Dell drivers up to date, (as far as I can tell...)
I am going NUTS trying to figure out why my USB ports are acting flaky. Sometimes, I plug in my iPhone and it shows up. Sometimes it doesn't. No matter what I try, it won't show as a device. BUT, in settings, it shows the Apple Device Support Driver. I remove it, reinstall it. Nothing. Then, the next day I plug it in and, Viola,it shows up.
I am a retired Senior Systems & Network Engineer. I have worked with MS OS for 30+ years. I sort of know what I am doing. But this...this makes no sense.
Other problems I have are with USB 3.0 Ext Drives connecting, then dropping out with no explanation or reason. Sometimes, it is the port on the left side in the back. Sometimes, it is the one in the back on the right. I also have a docking station.port replicator. That 3.0 port does the same. I am at my wits end. I have 2 Seagate Ext USB, (SCSI) drives, BOTH support USB 3.0 and work Fine on my Dell Optiplex DT. My iPhone works fine. ALL of my USB devices test ok at 3.0 on another platform, but on this $#*@ Latitude, they are just not doing what I would expect. Grrr.
I got nothing. Anyone?

i have a dell latitude laptop and the touchpad started behaving crazy from last week. i didnt notice when it started to happen and don't know what might be the cause.

in the synaptics tray icon when you right click there is a set of options that you can choose, and one of the options is called a pressure graph (there is also a mood pad next to it), and when i click on this pressure graph it gives me the following message: "Sorry, this program requires a Synaptics TouchPad and the Synaptics TouchPad Device Driver." and i'm pretty certain i've got the driver for it, and i've got the correct driver for it; but i can't be sure whether the installation is damaged or not. how can i check this? could there be something in the registry that prevents this from working or perhaps a conflict with another device? i tried reinstalling - it didnt work.

So it could be either hardware or software and I need to find out as soon as possible because I'm getting little annoyed by this mouse business.

Anyone with a solution?

The other day, I started having a problem with the screen on my latitude d610 laptop. After awhile of being on it would turn off. Not the laptop itself, just the screen (I know this because I can hear the audio coming from the task I was working on). This problem got progressively worse and now when I turn the screen on it only flickers on for about a fraction of a second before going back off.

I'm not entirely concerned with getting that fixed (although, if you know what the problem is, please do let me know). My main concern is the fact that I cannot get an external monitor to work. I have plugged in the VGA cable into my laptop and the external monitor and then I hold down the "fn" key and press the "CRT-LCD" button, but nothing happens. There is no problem with the VGA cable I'm using or the monitor I'm trying to use, because I tried troubleshooting with another laptop and was able to get it to work on that second laptop. The only thing I can think of is that maybe my d610 is not recognizing the VGA cable/external monitor, because after plugging the VGA into my d610 I do not get the "device is connected" chime that I would normally hear after connecting a device.

If you have any advice for me on what my problems could be or anything you think I might be able to do to try to correct the problem, I'd certainly appreciate it.

i got this info here GPU Temperature 103C on Latitude E6420 - General Hardware - Laptop - Dell Community

A:Dell latitude e6430 and dell latitude e6420

Joseph mate best leave as is after all it was made to function as it came. Now for the compound and copper shim personally I would not bother with the copper shim I can see no good reason for it the dual pipe again if it was made to work with one pipe then leave alone.

It is better if you renew the compound using a decent cleaner and compound and I can recommend these for that job

Arctic Silver Incorporated - ArctiClean for thorough cleaning and preparation and Arctic Silver Incorporated - Arctic Silver 5 for the compound.

Now it depends on who you listen to but I always use these products and after the old compound is thoroughly cleaned off and the surfaces prepped I spread the compound very thinly and across the both entire surface of the CPU and the heatsink with my finger inside a vinyl or latex glove and then place a rice grain sized piece of compound on the CPU and replace the heatsink. If you touch the surfaces after clean and prep then redo it.

While you are in there do make sure the fan and the radiator are really spotless and I sometimes relube the fan bearings to make sure the fan is running at full tilt when needed.

I'm trying to install Windows 2000 over Windows XP on my Dell Latitude LS for performance reasons. The Win2K CD doesn't want to boot(I know how to set the CD as primary boot, I have set it, and it won't boot. There isn't a boot.ini file on the CD.), and if I use Windows 2000 boot disks, I need the CD to be on at the same time as the floppies, which I can't do. I also cannot get Windows XP to pretend to be compatible with Windows 2000.

Help? Please?

So I enquired:

So I ran the installation disc. The install performs and completes with errors yet when I again rebooted I got what I had before, everything sized and adjusted correctly through a AV receiver in windows Nero on my 55 inch LED TV - correct desktop etc.

Hi all, I have just registered here as I am having some issues installing Windows 7 to a friends Dell Mini netbook.

I have previously installed the copy I have to my Samsung N110 netbook which has pretty much identical hardware as the Dell Mini. I had and still have no problems with it on my Samsung.

I am pretty computer literate but this error has left me stumped. I have never came across this before.

When installing to the Dell, it completed the copying and expanding files and then completes installing features. After this, it is as if it freezes and then I am presented with the error,

"Could not set the offline locale information Error code 0x80FF0000"

This confused me so I did a search (as you do) and tried various methods on solving this issue to no avail. The BIOS is up to date and the time is set correctly as well. There are no issues with the hard drive either as I can install XP no problems to it.

I have even tried doing a low level format and creating the partition tables outwith Windows 7 setup. Yet I still get the same error.

Also, last night tried again at optimizing the HDD for the install but got the same error.

Does anyone have a clue as to what it could be? Oh and don't be afraid to use technical language as I will be able to understand no problem.

A:Issues when installing Win7 to Dell Mini

Hello Fraser, welcome to Seven Forums!

From the little searches I've run, it could be, not enough HDD space to install Windows 7 to or, are you sure the partition you're trying to install to is a 'primary' and not a 'logical' partition?
Be sure to post back with an update.

Hello everyone,
have recently been experiencing some issues with the computer freezing momentarily (mostly for not even a second)...
the issue first appeared a while after i installed GTA SA from steam (came with the pre order for GTA V) and first occured in game.
It affects the whole computer, although shortlived it's annoying as hell as you can imagine beacause every few minutes it does the same....
Appears to affect the whole computer not only video or audio playback (which i first thought was the case).
Ran combofix, etc... because i thought it was possibly a virus/malware, but now i'm doubting if it is maybe hardware related? (if that's possible)
Atm i'm completely at a loss what to do next, so any help is welcome!!!

Since you problem start after installing the GTA SA, I would suggest uninstalling it to see if this is causing the problem.

I would like to ask for your assistance because I'm already out of ideas how to resolve this issue. Right after I powered up the laptop, it will get past the DELL logo screen, then it will be completely just black screen. I wouldn't even hear any activity from the CPU fan, HDD and pressing the Caps Lock doesn't lit up the LED. The LED indicators on the side are only displaying the power indicator, but none for HDD, Battery and Wireless.
Here are the steps that I have done so far:
1) Removed the HDD and Battery, then press & hold the power button for at least 45-60 seconds to disperse the internal voltage. Then attach the Battery, but not the HDD.
2) Press and hold Fn and then the Power button, hoping to boot me up to the ePSA Diagnostic Utility
3) Press F2 or F12 while booting up
4) Re-seat the memory and also clean with a dry tissue
These are the procedures that I have done but nothing has changed. It still displays blank screen right after the DELL logo.
I do hope that you could assist me on this. Thank you so much!

Pretty much what the title says - Dell's new, recently-released ControlVault driver (version A19) does not successfully install on a Dell Latitude E6330.  I followed the driver installation order from the "Dell Business Client Re-Image 'How-To' Guide" and installed the Dell ControlVault driver last.  It did not work.

I installed Windows 7 64-bit on my Latitude E6400. I cannot seem to find any way to install Dell Control Point. I got the Driver Pack to install. I found one download of Security Manager that worked, but I would like the Power Manager one.

I've looked on this forum a few times and any links I click on just redirect me to the Drivers and Downloads page. I get errors saying that my service pack is not supported.....I'm on Windows 7 Service Pack 1. I also got some 32-bit errors, but that's my fault for downloading the 32-bit version.

Does anybody have a link to the full Dell Control Point package (Power Manager, Connection Manager, Security Manager) that will work on 64-bit Windows 7?

A:which is better dell latitude e5440 or dell latiude e6430

The E6430 has a metal case and is more robust, but uses an older CPU and chipset.
The E5440 is a plainer chassis with a newer generation CPU and chipset.
The E6440 is the concurrent update to the E5440.
There are too many possible configurations to definitively say which is better -- it depends on the CPU, GPU, etc. in the specific model (or that you choose when you order one, but since the E6430 isn't a current model,  you may be looking at used systems).

Hi everyone,

This is a long shot ... I've got a machine from about 1998 here and am hoping someone might be able to remember something about them. It's small, black and very chunky - the Dell Latitude XPi CD ( 166mhz! ). I needed something with windows 98 so I 'upgraded' the drive from 2 gb. to a Samsung HM100JC ( 100 gb. ) Basically I've got some games that don't work with compatibility in XP at all ...

All fine and dandy with swapping the hard drive, but the underneath of the machine gets universally hot as hell! I don't seem to be able to detect a fan, much less any cooling vents. Would I be right in thinking that it was fine with the 2 gb, and it needed neither a fan or cooling vents, but that my latter day 100 gb. drive runs that much hotter? I actually love this laptop, but want to 'waste' neither it or the drive, so any suggestions much welcome!

I've tried the Dell site but the documentation I found wasn't hugely informative about the specific problems I'm having ( though to their credit, all of the setup files were there for download ).

Many thanks,

A:Old Dell Latitude XPi - very hot

If your new hard drive is higher RPM than the old drive, then that would explain the heat. Your old drive was probably 4500 RPM, and the new one 5400 or 7200. If that is true, there's not much you can do about it short of buying a new drive.

Hi, I have just brought a Dell Latitude CPx back from the dead and it is working wonderfully apart from the fact that the Function (FN) keys don't 'function'.
Any ideas please?

A:Dell Latitude CPx

Humm... old.

When you say you brought it back from the dead, how so? Did you have a Dell recovery disk, or did you install an OS from a box into it? Was the keyboard okay before hand, or was it part of the reason for it being DOA originally?

The CPx series were one of those 'semi'-Dell machines, since the same notebook could be purchased in a number of liveries, including HP and Gateway (your machine looks exactly like my Solo 1400). If you loaded an operating system into it that wasn't from a recovery disk, then you probably need to download the drivers from the Dell website into it. Otherwise, the keyboad may be out of sorts, and may need replacing.

If you can find the service tag number (on Dell laptops, they tend to be on a thin white label and are only 6 to 8 digits long), you can punch it in here ( to find out what was on this beastie originally, and what can be downloaded to it.

Thats a normal problem for those keyboards. You could probably have gotten those keys working again by reseating the cable from the motherboard to the keyboard. Now it sounds like you need a new keyboard. You can probably get one from Dell or possibly find a used one from ebay. Replacements can also be found online like this.

I am new here and will jump right into this. I do have this posed on the Dell Forums but theye are a little slow to suggestions. I have had a terrible time with this Laptop and am desperate for help with a solution.

I bought a Latitude Cpi from a co-worker. This Latitude worked fine for about 2 weeks and then will not work correctly. This has been a problem now for 1 and a half months.

Specs of the laptop:

Latitude Cpi D266XT

Bios A12

Intially when I got this Laptop it had Win2K. The co-woprker had this loaded for the past year and it worked fine with no problems. During the first two weeks I had this laptop I had no modem so I borrowed a Microcom 28.8 modem. Before this my co-worker never had a modem in this laptop. After he bought his new laptop he gave me the Xircom Cardbus 10/100 and 56K modem. When I installed this modem is when I started to see some problems. At this time the BIOS was at A04.

Win2k would load but would not take all the way. It would lock up about halfway through trying to load. I then would shut down hard and restart and it would not load at all. It would run through the BIOS but would not load Win2K. I decided to wipe the hardrive and did a F Disk. I reloaded Win 2K with about the same results although it did fully load one time.

I next tried Win 98. I did this after I formated the harddrive again. Win 98 loaded a couple times and then did the same thing. First it would lock but then I would just get a cursur in the u... Read more

I copied this directly from my question on Yahoo Answers because I did not yet get an answer.

We have an OLD Dell Latitude laptop that we got from someone a long time ago, and it is very slow. It has XP Pro on it, but it is way too slow for actually using. I installed Xubuntu via Wubi, and that worked great. So I decided I would try to partition the HD and put Xubuntu on permanently, and probably remove Windows. I uninstalled Xubuntu, but it still shows up on the boot menu (even though it doesn't work).

ANYWAYS, I have a few various boot CDs; including Xubuntu 9.10, UBCD 5, and the Windows disc that came with the laptop. The laptop has no CD Drive on it, so it uses an external one with some weird cable (Not USB).

The problem is that NO boot cd will boot on that laptop. They all work on any other computer, but this thing refuses to boot any cd. It sits at the Dell screen when it finds that there's a boot cd, and it sits there for 5 minutes, and does one of two things:

1. It stops trying and boots to Windows.

2. It makes a horrendously loud BEEEEEP and says something along the lines of "Boot incomplete, press F(something) to resume (in which pressing that takes you to Windows), or F(something) to go to Setup (BIOS).

Now, I HAVE configured the BIOS crap boot order. So in theory it SHOULD boot from CDs.

Instead it tries to, but then it seems like it gives up and just boots to Windows.

The specs (that I can tell) of the laptop are:

When I cancel out of the netzero install/setup, it will still freeze just by clicking on something as simple as the start menu. I have reinstalled windows a few times, and every time I get the same result. Does anyone know what could be causing it to do that? Is it possible that the xp professional home edition is too much for the laptop to handle? Or is it that I might not have all the drivers installed that I need? Any help is greatly appreciated.

My IHD has crashed, and I have tried several options
- booting from CD ROM etc.

I was wondering if anyone knows of a way to access the hard drive via another computer - repair / retrive data / format hard drive

ALSO - where is the IHD on DELL 600.

I thought I would try to reseat it....

A:Internal HD Dell Latitude 600

No problem, you can attach that laptop HD 2.5 IDE to your desktop HD 3.5 IDE, but you'll need to purchase or get your hands on 2.5 IDE to IDE connector. What I do is either use the Slave Secondary where the CDROM goes and connect the laptop HD 2.5 IDE there. The connector comes with a power connector to drive the HD to the desktop PC pwr. Here you can clone the HD to another 2.5 IDE HD for laptop (you'll need another 2.5 IDE to 3.5 IDE connector for that task. Backup files an etc.. with one 2.5 IDE HD.

Less than $1.00 at a computer fair more than $5 at a computer retail store or online.

Alright so my brother was playing on xbox live last night and for some reason he found it necessary to prop open my laptop to check his stats for Battlefield Bad Company as he played it. Now my brother is what you would call a hardcore gamer, his session lasted a good 5 or 6 hours.

I awoke this morning to see that he was still up and he tried to lighten the mood be telling my my latitude has an attitude. I may have laughed but i could see by the look on his face something was bad.

So now when i try to turn it on, the power lights and the lock lights go on for about a second then go off again and there are none of the sounds of a computer startup that i recognize. He said it was plugged in and then just suddenly shut off.

He had it sitting on a solid table so i am guessing that it probably overheated and the fan couldn't do it's job.

The model is Dell C510/C610 Latitiude this is my first laptop bought off ebay for 200 and its been running fine for the last month.

Any help you can give in getting my laptop back up and running is greatly appreciated.

Been a while since I've posted here, but I'd like some help please. Dell Latitude CPt (Laptop) running W98. Insert a CD in the drive, and it flags up

D:\ is not accessible

The device is not ready

I've checked in Device Manager, and everything seems correct for the CD drive.. drivers, device etc. all working properly with no conflicts. Drive is a TEAC CD-224E

Under Other Devices however, two entries are flagged with the yellow !. These are..

PCI Communications Device

PCI Multimedia Audio Device

Neither have drivers installed, and tell me in brackets Code 28.

I've tried to reinstall the drivers with the handy Reinstall Drivers button, but they aren't on the HD.

Two questions, apart from the obvious what do I do next..

1. Are the two related, I'm guessing they are.. and

2. If so, how do I go about getting the correct drivers for it. I've had a quick look on Google, but no luck.

For background info, this happened when I cleaned up this Laptop for a colleague at work, just to make a bit of space on the HD. I assume I've somehow (don't ask) inadvertantly deleted something I shouldn't have.

A:Dell Latitude CPt. CD-ROM not working.

MaxClick to expand...

You may need to download newer drivers for your graphics card that is in your laptop. It sounds like right now your computer is using the default drivers from the Windows XP Disk which may not be good enough for your video to show up from a DVD. Did you try the Dell website for the video drivers?

Or you may need to download a DVD Playback Codec. They are normally not free, but there is a player out there that they come free in which is called VLC.

I have a Dell Latitude 620 laptop, running XP pro. A few months back it would not boot nor charge the battery. I assumed the problem was the battery so I bought a new battery from Dell, it installed nicely and I let it charge for about a day. Now either on battery power or with the AC connected the laptop will not boot. Upon pressing the start button, the green 'power' light comes on and the 'disk' light, (this is what I call it, it looks like a stack of platters, and is located right beside the power light) comes on very briefly, maybe 1.5 secs and then goes off. No beep, no whirr of any drive, no noise and nothing on the screen. Any suggestions? How do I troubleshoot this? Any advice at all would be most appreciated! Thanks in advance guys!

Hello, A friend just gave a Dell Latitude cpi because he shut it down with the reboot to start up in dos mode. He didnt know how to change it back so he gave it to me. When its turned on, the screen says Invalid system disk replace the disk and pres sany key. I have xp to put on but no key code for this computer. It has windows 98 on it. I dont have that disk, is that the only way? I would just like to get it back to the previous setting that worked, not in set up either as far as I see, so I can use it for games or what ever.

I'm pretty sure that if you don't have the original disk, you are pretty much going to have to start from scratch.

My friend gave his laptop to try and fix because I am pretty tech savvy, although had virtually no experience with laptops. His has the problem of not turning on, I couldn't hear the hard drive stating to spin so I took the one out of my laptop and put it in his. Nothing changed but then when I put my hard drive back, my screen wont turn on, just the lights and I cant hear the processor, or harddrive start up. nothing but the little power lights. I really need you help guys, I am selling this laptop to friend of my brother this week

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

A:Dell Latitude won't turn on

Remove the HardDrive again from your laptop (I think we are only talking about your Laptop)
Remove the Power Adaptor and Battery
Hold down the ON button for 30secs (dispersing all internal voltage)
Put the Power Adaptor back in (No HardDrive yet!)
Turn On
Does it now show a display?

If Yes. Turn it off, and put the HardDrive and Battery back in.
If No, Remove the Power Adaptor again
Disperse the internal Voltage again
Remove and reseat the Ram (sometimes blowing out any dust too)
With the Ram back in, Put the Power Adaptor back in
Turn on

Did it work?

Hi all, I was thinking about purchasing a Dell Latitude d420 for $170 is this a good laptop for its price, It has 1GB RAM and comes with charge and all . It looks fresh I didn't see any scratches or anything tomorrow before I buy it I am going to take a look at it again and turn it on. The local pawn shop by my school is selling it.

I need a laptop that is good on the go and just like this witch is lightweight and small to carry. How is it? What are your reviews about it are the latitude series good for a high school student? I might play some games on it like WoW. If I do purchase it I am going to install Windows XP Crystal and optimize it the best I could..

I would of had my HP Pavillion dv9000 but turns out I bought a new LCD and whole screen for it and got it installed now the Graphics card web on it , If I wanted to replace it I would need to change the whole mother board HP said sucks for me...

I'm looking into buying an affordable small travel notebook/laptop. My budget is fairly low, only consisting of a few hundred Dollars.
I have found this specification list from a local used store:
I haven't found any new condition sellers so far. Also, a few questions I had were:
- Is this notebook capable of running Windows 10?
- As I'm a designer, can this notebook run Photoshop cloud edition?
- Is shipping notebooks overseas possible and safe?
it is really hard for me to determine what's wise or not. Because I'm inexperienced in the hardware field.

A:DELL Latitude E6400

This is a nice reliable computer. Unfortunately, there are no Windows 10 drivers available for download. That does not mean it may not run it. It is that Dell did not verify this computer to run Windows 10 and did not create any drivers.
Looking at the system requirements to run Photoshop Cloud software; the computer meets the requirements.
As far as shipping notebooks overseas it should be fine as long as it is packaged well toh avoid being damaged.
Dell has some reasonable priced laptops that may meet your budget located on our Dell Outlet website below., Even with Windows 10.

Hi all,

I have been given one of the above notebooks, problem is, it is an old machine used by my friend in his office, it has Windows NT loaded on it, so I formatted another laptop HDD with Windows XP and change the one in there.

The problem is, on boot up it searches for Windows NT, not found and it returns to the POST state. How can I stop it searching for Windows NT and constantly rebooting?

A:Dell Latitude C600

What type of system did you build the other laptop drive on. Is the processor type the same? Also have have you checked your BIOS ssettings to determine if NT is defined there as the OS to look for?

I would do this:

Boot the current hard drive from an XP CD (full install mode) and load XP from scratch on the system you have the drive in. I have found that an XP load for an AMD for example will not boot a system that has a Pentium or Celeron. Also make sure the hardware you have, has XP drivers for all the necessary pieces.

Happy to provide more information if you need.

Hi all,

I have an E6400 running Vista and an E4300 running Windows 7. Both with regular HDD's, wanting to upgrade them to SSD's. I have the SSD's - a Crucial BX100 250G for the first, a 120G Toshiba for the E4300.

E6400; I have 'cloned' with EaseUS Todo Backup onto the SSD, apparently successfully, via CD caddy, but it won't boot up when I replace HDD with SSD. Just get a black screen with a cursor. Could it be just that it is thinner, so loose?

I haven't tried to do the E4300, so any tips there... also read it could be something to do with Windows 'hidden files' not being cloned?

Also wondering if Win 7 or Vista is better - been happy with 7, just got the Vista machine. If one is better, can I clone one onto both & do away with Vista, or vice versa?

A:Dell Latitude SSD upgrade

When you boot into Windows and only the cursor is visible, click 1 (one) time only CTRL+ALT+DEL, select New Task, then navigate into the Windows folder, scroll down and click on explorer.

Ok I am  kind of new to all this so please have a heart and  refrain from making me look stupid cause i might make it easy  by  being a easy  target . I have a dell laptop latitude d820 and my goodness it was / is slow . I mean so  slow  mail might be more practical using lets say the pony express so i do mean slow.  Then if anyone could be kind and  can help me get it to have better performance i would really be grateful. That is not the main problem,  due to it being so slow,  i searched ,  read  and saw its a good idea to reformat the entire thing and that  i did. I followed direction per windows tutorials and made a back up disk to reboot from. I then formatted the thing clearing it back to its virginity state and proceeded to boot from back up disk. I was informed i needed to authenticate my version of windows 7 so i used the key located on the bottom of my dell. It acted like it was going through and by that i mean it was taking forever and then eventually came back saying i could not use that key for my version of windows 7 pro. I dont have the money to just go buy a new one and it wont let me authenticate this version . Please someone,  anyone help me out here . To top it all off its even slower so it seems . Any education or enlightenment will be very welcomed and well received . Thanks and hope to hear all the things i need to bring this dell back to its working state.

A:need help please dell latitude d820

This is actually frustrating as i had the option of going with a HP but chose DELL for superiority.

I have a dell latitude d400 with an Intel Pentium M Processor 1.40 GHz. Im wondering if i could upgrade that to an Intel Core Duo, please help. Thanks. I have xp running on this.

A:Dell Latitude d400

Hi jkswimmer and welcome to Vista Forums

Sorry, but I don't recommend this. With a desktop system, then possibly. However, with laptops things are much more complicated. Power consumption and heat dissipation are the greatest concern and they are optimised for the current processor in the system. A replacement processor, if it is not identical, might have different power and thermal characteristics, in which case the system would fail to keep it within its normal working range. In addition to that, simply accessing the processor on a laptop is much more complicated than simply removing the side panel as you would on a desktop. You literally have to strip the laptop right down, being carefull not to lose the various small screws or damage the wiring and its connectors. And then, of course, you will need to repeat the procedure in reverse to reassemble it.
Personally, I would leave your laptop as it is, with one exception. To improve its performance, make sure that you have installed the maximum amount of memory that it supports (see manual for details).

Welcome to TSG but you need to create your own thread. to do that you should click on the red triangle in this instance and ask a moderator for help.

then before you do anything with your computer you need to get a lot more RAM

you probably need to provide a bit more info on your computer to determine if this is a good idea to upgrade if this laptop is really old.

Many (most) Dell's do not have user fan speed control. Its what it is. Laptops, in general, tend to run warm as they sacrifice extra cooling for reduction in fan noise.
