Unable to Acquire IP Address

Q: Unable to Acquire IP Address

Hi,

I reinstalled a driver for my Wirless LAN Mini PCI Adapter in my laptop yesterday and now I can't get an IP address to connect to my network. A long time ago someone changed a setting on this laptop to access a network in a school and when my gf brought it home we no longer could connect to our home network. I fear this same problem has came back now and I don't recall how it was fixed last time.

Anyway, put in the IP address, subnet and DNS #s this AM to try to manually connect and it shows up as connected now but the packets being sent are like 11-24 and received is 0. Can anyone help me get this working? Thanks!

A: Unable to Acquire IP Address

i had a similar problem because it was being blocked by my firewall: I put the IP address in the 'trusted' zone on my firewall and hey presto.

It may work. luck.

About a week ago we had a virus on this computer. Ran malware and AVG and the computer worked fine. A few days after the virus was removed I could not get online or print to the printer that was hosted on this computer. It is a wired connection. Under network connection, it says "acquiring adress" but it never aqcuires one. I typed in the IP address manually and that allows me to get online but I cant see the other computers on the network and they cant see this computer. Any thoughts?

We cannot help you with malware removal here due to forum rules. Please click on the link for Virus/Malware Help in my signature and do as many of those steps as you can and skip those you can't and post there for more help. Once the security experts give you a clean bill of health;
Unplug the power plug to the Modem and the Router. Plug the power into just the Modem (unless you have a modem/router combo) When all the lights come up, plug in the power to the Router (unless combo of course)
Now Go to Start/Run and type inetcpl.cpl and press enter/Connections/LAN Settings. Make sure all the boxes are unchecked. Now go to Start/Run and type ncpa.cpl and press enter. Right click the Local Area connection/Properties scroll down to Internet Protocol (TCP-IP)/Properties. Make sure Obtain an IP Address and DNS Server Address Automatically are both checked. Now go to Start/Run and type CMD and press enter. IN the Command Prompt type ipconfig /release and press enter. the IP Address changes to 0.0.0.0 Now type ipconfig /flushdns and press enter. Now type ipconfig /renew. Now type ipconfig /all. You should have a new IP address try it again. If you still cannot connect please include the text output of your ipconfig /all in your next post

Hey Guys

I have an issue connecting to the internet and after reviewing the forums I couldn't find a solution applicable to my situation so here goes.

I use a PC at work and we are in the process of moving so we disconnected our internet early. For a couple weeks I need internet connection at work and found our neighbor who is allowing me access to their service. They gave me their password but when I try and connect it constantly says acquiring network address. My smartphone has no issue being connected.

Here is as much information as I can gather

Dell PC Inspiron
Dell 1450 wireless adapter with correct driver installed
wireless zero configuration disabled (using Dell)
have released and renewed ip in command function

Any help would be appreciated

Sharing of internet access is prohibited by every provider that I know of. Please read and follow the rules when posting specifically the part about illegal activity. This thread is closed. If you can post a user agreement from the service provider allowing sharing of access, I will reopen this thread.

I'm having problem with a computer at work. Yesterday, I moved ithe computer from one area of the office building to another and when I hooked it back up to the network, it kept giving me a message saying "aquiring network address" and then it said that it was unable to acquire the network address. It worked fine when it was hooked up in another office, but now since I moved it, it won't let me connect to the network. Please Help!

A:Unable to acquire network address

You are probably on a different subnet or domain. The only way to resolve this is to talk to your network admin and tell them that you have moved your desk.

I just assembled a Pentium 4 rig with ASUS mobo P4S800D-X and apparently I am having internet connection issue with wired connection. I am connecting through a router and all internet connection are test to work fine with my other computer. I was able to connect wirelessly using a USB internet adapter. It is just the wired connection that is not functioning. I have consulted with ASUS tech support and at first they told me to uninstall the network adapter and reinstall and still problem not solved. Then they said could be a TCP/IP stack issue so they told me to download the SP3 and still issue not resolved.

Does anyone have any issue similar to this that can help me figure out this weird problem?? Thanks.

A:Unable to acquire network address with wired connection

I would first try updating the driver for your network card, and then try a different card altogether.

I ended up with Antivirus Soft. I used rkill and Malwarebytes in safe mode (administrator). After it removed several infections. I rebooted in normal mode. The wireless keyboard would not work (the wireless mouse using the same USB dongle works fine) and the network connection was acquiring an IP address (never aquired).Ran rkill and Malwarebytes in normal mode and my user name in safe mode. It cleared up some additional infections in my user name safe (none as I recall in my user name in normal mode). Ran Spyware Doctor. It found Spyware.Known_Bad_Sites. Since it wasn't going to remove it without buying the full version (and still not solve the problem). I've since run Dr Web Cureit (removed Backdoor.Tdss.565) and Cool Cleaner. No change. The keyboard works in safe mode. Currently the Hardware Device Manager says "Windows cannot load the device for this hardware because a previous instance of the device is still in memory (Code 38). I've uninstalled and reinstalled from the original disk- no change. I'm currently using a wired keyboard. The network works in safe mode intermittently. Hello All,

Just to preface things, I have never had any training on repairing or modifying computers, but I've picked up some things over the years. I've had a computer in my home since 1986. I am pretty good at following instructions and figuring things out.

I have an older Dell Dimension 8300 with Windows XP Professional with SP3. I've had this computer for about 6 or so years. This computer had a Blue Screen error on shut down for years, but it was never a problem, it just caused me to have to power down manually. I finally decided to attack this problem via google searches on similar problems in forums like this. That machine is no longer my primary computer, so I figured I would attempt to fix it up. I know, this is not a smart idea since I'm not a pro. But I did it, and I actually did fix the Blue Screen problem, but in the process, I did something to disable my internet connection.

Now, my IP address is 0.0.0.0 and I have done everything as suggested in this similar thread:

http://forums.techguy.org/networking/397971-stuck-acquiring-network-address.html

as well as what was suggested by my ISP's tech support. Nothing will work, my computer is still stuck on "acquiring network address" and the IP is still 0.0.0.0. I thought it may have something to do with the ethernet drivers, but I uninstalled and reinstalled those and restarted, still nothing.

I would be more than happy to just reinstall XP and start fresh, but I cannot do tha... Read more

A:Computer cannot acquire network address, IP Address 0.0.0.0

Oh, and also, I am connected to a DSL modem using ethernet, and my other desktop computer works fine with the same modem (I just switch ethernet cables each time I switch computers). The problem is not with the modem or the cable, it is definitely related to what I did to fix the blue screen error.

I can't honestly remember every specific thing I did to fix that error, but some of it was identifying the unsigned drivers on my system and disabling some of them until the error went away.

Thanks!

I have a Belkin wireless router attached to my computer. It was set up as an access point, with an IP address of 192.168.0.254. I had some problems with the network today and could not access this unit by typing in the IP in my browser. I feel certain that is the IP address I put in it when setting it up, as I have a record I kept of all the settings. Is there a way to retrieve the IP address to verify that is what it is set to?

My computer cannot acquire an I.P. address, no matter what network i connect to. Its running Windows XP SP2 and Ubuntu dual boot, and I can't connect to a wireless network in either.

I used to be connected to a wireless network which only accepted my MAC Address and I had no problems with that. I moved house and haven't had an internet connection since I moved apart from an ethernet cable connected to another computer. I tried to plug this ethernet into my computer, but the IP couldn't be acquired. I tried to use my phone as a modem, and got the same problem. I also brought my computer to another house to try connect it to their wireless and again received the same problem. If I set the I.P. to one in the range manually, it says its connected, but no websites will load. I have tried every solution I found online and none worked.
PLEASE HELP.

I have had to reload windows XP on a Phillips LS1600 desktop PC. Previously the pc linked wirelessly to my home network although it was a bit difficult to get the MSI 802.11b/g wireless LAN to acquire an IP address. Since reloading the operating systems it has again been impossible to get the pc to link to the wireless network stating that the pc cannot acquire an ip address. I have tried a Netgear WG111T usb wireless adaptor and a Belkin 7050 usb wireless adaptor but both of these have the same problem. I have updated all drivers, disabled unwanted adaptors, disabled all firewalls, run winsockxpfix, rebooted the router but still connections cannot acquire an IP address. Two other pcs are connecting well.
I am thinking of connecting using a wired connection and update XP (if it will let me). Please advise.

HI there,

Okies....all of a sudden my main PC wont acquire an IP address from my wireless network. I suspected that it was the router and binned it, I bought a new and set it up. Its now running and secure and Ive got my laptop connected to it flawlessly.

I guess the problem isnt with the Router or network. So it must be the card or PC?

The belkin wireless utility sees the netwrok and thinks that it is connected with limited connectivity but the windows icon (with the little ball rolling side to side) says that it is acquiring network and goes on for hours until I stop it.

I have tried to repair it and force it to acquire but to avail.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

I'm trying to get connected to Verizon DSL for the first time, I have a Dell Dimension running XP, I've gone through the install and can't get a connection. I have the icon in the task bar showing the two computers trying to connect, when I hold the mouse over it it says: "acquiring network address", but it never does. I was on the phone today with Verizon tech support, he tried everything he could think of: couldn't ping anything, tried setting manual ip addresses instead of automatic, tried connecting with USB instead of Ethernet, his final suggestion was that the nic is faulty, however this doesn't make sense to me since it didn't work through USB either. The computer can connect fine through my old dial up connection.
I tried the install with a second computer (Toshiba laptop) and it worked fine, so the problem is definitely something to do with the Dell. I don't have a screenshot or text file for ipconfig on the Dell, but I know that all of the addresses are 000.000.0.0 (or something like that).
Thanks in advance for any help.

Ok, so I'm trying to fix my sister's laptop (emachine d620), and all I have left to do is get the internet working. It's stuck on "Renewing IP Address/Acquiring Netwrok Address" and SOMETIMES will go to limited or no connectivity. Repairing the connects yields the same results. I went into a cmd, but when I type 'ipconfig' it looks like this:

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator.EXPERIENCE>ipconfig
'ipconfig' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

Help, plz? :/

Thank you!

A few days ago the internet randomly stopped working and remained stuck on 'acquiring network address', or something like that, before coming up with a 'limited or no connectivity' message. Apparently our Linksys router was the problem, since my husband's computer has normal internet access when wired directly to the modem. Recently we bought a new router, still a Linksys (though this one is model WRT54GS V7.2) which has the exact same problem -- the install software won't even run because it apparently can't detect a new gateway or router. We've tried installing the router software on my own computer following the same instructions from the install CD, but ended up with the exact same problem as on my husband's computer. We've tried restarting and refreshing the IP numerous times, though none have worked.
We also tried plugging in the router to the modem and a computer without running the installation software, and the computer recognizes the router enough to again search for the network address, though it never finds anything.
What could be the problem?

Both our computers run Windows XP SP2, and though the router we use is capable of wireless we connect all our computers to it through regular ethernet wires.

I bring my laptop to work every day. I have no problem automatically logging onto the network and using the internet and the wireless printer at work. However, when I come home it will give me a strong signal of my wireless network BUT my internet connection is stuck on "acquiring network address" and always fails to log me on. I try repairing my network connection and that doesn't work either. In order to connect to the internet I have to go to the wireless router and modem and unplug everything, wait a minute, and plug everything back in before it finally connects me to the internet. I recently added a network key (in order to secure my network). I was also messing around with the windows firewall and I must have changed one of my settings either there or on my router because ever since then I have not been able to automatically connect here at home AND it my laptop doesn't see my wireless printer either. Sometimes a repair is required even though you are choosing the network directly.

I have a network with 3 computers using a Netgear router and a Netgear adapter on 2 computers. One of the PCs when booted up is not connecting. It tries to find the IP address but can't. I try to "repair" it and it again tries to acquire the network address, but can't. The only way to get it to connect is to go into Properties/Network Connections and check the box to have Windows do the configuration. What do I need to do to get it to connect automatically again?

Trojan Horse BackDoor.Generic14.BSQM located in "Windows/system32/drivers/netbt.sys" Process ID: 1068

DHCP services fail to start with error 1075, and I am unable to acquire a network address resulting in no internet access. I am able to manually assign an ip address, but I need DHCP working so that I can connect wirelessly to other AP's. Simply put, I need this resolved ASAP. Many thanks for any and all assistance. Although my wireless PC card can see my router, and is connected to it, it gets stuck on "acquiring network address". Able to connect through router using cable. My Wii is having no problem with the WiFi. Signal is strong, and I can see the 15 other (secured) networks around me.

Netgear WFR614 router
Netgear WG511v2 PC card
Dell Insprion Laptop

Firewall disabled for this fun process.

As it turns out, I "solved" the problem minutes after making this post. I turned on (yes, on) my firewall and after allowing the alerts that came up for the PC card, everything now works wonderfully.

I am working on a Dell Inspiron 8100 laptop for a friend. I upgraded his firmware to the lastest version from the Dell.com website. Now his 3Com 10/100 Mini PCI Ethernet card (built in to mboard) won't successfully acquire an ip address.

I have the laptop direct wired into my Linksys WRT54G router. Two other computers are successfully connected through the same router with no problems. I have included the Dell laptop into the correct workgroup name.

It successfully pings (127.0.0.1) but when I type "ipconfig" there is no ip address, no subnet mask, no default gateway.

If I type in "ipconfig /all" it shows a physical address, dhcp enabled and autoconfiguration enabled. No other info shows up.

I typed in "ipconfig /release" and it says it is already released.

When I type in "ipconfig /renew" it gives me an error message saying RPC server not available.

I have uninstalled the client and server from the NIC properties. I then deleted the NIC and rebooted twice. I still get the same results.

I upgraded the driver from the 3Com card with same results.

Any suggestions to correct this problem would be greatly appreciated.

My computer is stuck on accruing network address, here is the story

My computer became infected with Win AntiVirus Pro a while ago and I was finally able to remove it using spy-bot and ad-aware. (I mention this since it seems to be the last thing I was doing before the problem started) Problem is the next day I was unable to connect to the internet.
I tired to repair the connection, however as soon as I clicked repair I was immediately advised “windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action cannot be completed: renewing your IP address. For assistance, contact the person the manages your network.”
I did contact my ISP and was unable to fix the problem after about 3 hours of troubleshooting. I tried running thorough the Ethernet port and a usb. I am convinced as is my ISP that it is a problem with the computer, not the service, as I can connect to the internet when I plug the modem into a different computer.
When I type in ipconfig /renew I get the message: An error occurred while renewing interface Local Area Connection: The RPC server is unavailable.
I have a dell dimension dim 4500 with windows xp(2002). The modem is connected directly to the computer.
I feel stuck between a rock and hard place since My computer tells me it’s a ISP problem and my ISP tells me it’s a computer problem.
Can anyone help?

A:Cannot acquire network address

"The RPC server is unavailable."

Server? Sure it wasn't "service"? If it was service: Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Services - the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service should be started and its Startup Type should be 'Automatic.'

I searched around the internet and have come up with nothing.

A few nights ago there was a real bad thunderstorm and afterwards my computer and xbox 360 were not connecting to the internet. I have a desktop that is connected to my house's LAN through a cable. After checking out a number of different things I have come to believe it is definatly the computer and Xbox which are suffering from some sort of problem. My mom's laptop (which I am on right now) has no problem connecting wirelessly or with a cable. I have moved my computer down to the office and plugged it in with a working cable and it will not connect.

The computer will say that a cable is unplugged, try to connect, will not be able to acquire a network address, then the icon will switch to a yellow warning sign and say there is little to no connectivity. I ran a loop to test the network card and it tested ok (4 returns). This is really stumping me. Any help is much appreciated.

I have a Fujitsu Pi1505 notebook running Windows XP that has an Intel 3945ABG built wireless chip. It has been working fine on my home network in the UK using WEP.
I recently took it to France and had connectivity problems with hotspots. It worked fine if it was an unprotected network, but if it was protected then I entered the key and it then spent ages trying to acquire the network address and finally gave up. The key was OK, because if I mistyped it then it complained.
When I got home the notebook connected straight back onto my home network. The strange thing is, I went around to a friends house where it had connected many times before and that failed as well. Any ideas?
I have downloaded the latest driver from the Fujitsu web site and it has not helped.

Hi everyone, my family recently updated (or so we thought) to Sky Broadband using our Netgear router, and it's been giving us some problems. My computer upstairs connects to this one through the wireless router, and suddenly it won't let me get past the 'acquiring network address' stage. The icon in the taskbar constantly flashes from red to green, and I can't access the internet at all. This downstairs one that's directly connected to the router works though, so I have no idea why mine won't. I'm running Windows XP. I'm definitely a beginner, so please don't get too technical!

Thanks in advance for any help,

Helen.

ISP: Sky Broadband
Router: Well, downstairs it's NETGEAR WG511v2 (My router is a USB one that connects to this one)
Connection Type: Wireless
Encryption Used: WPA
OS: XP Home Edition
Browser: Mozilla Firefox (but IE doesn't work either)

When I change the encryption to WEP or disable it, it doesn't work at all.

A:Solved: Cannot 'acquire network address'...

Uh, never mind. I disabled all my firewalls, changed the encryption to 'Disable', applied it, took out the usb router, restarted, plugged it back in, changed the connection back to WPA, entered the pass phrase (with caps lock on, despite it telling me to turn it off) and all is working fine. This is now from the upstairs/my computer.

Turns out this router USB thingy is called NETGEAR WG111v2, just in case that matters to anyone!

I'm lost with this computer that I'm working on. It will not acquire a network address. I've moved the computer from the house it was in to mine and tried setting it on my network (which I know has no problem) either wireless or LAN it will not connect. I also notice that there is something called client services for netware which is limiting me from logging on and off the normal way. I have searched for the instructions for removing this service and It's not showing up as the instructions show. Any suggestions????

Have you tried factory resetting the router via the pin hole in the back and setting it up afresh.

Don't use any backed up configs.

EDIT When factory resetting a router, ensure you hold the button in for at least 15secs for it to properly reset.

Neither my wired nor wireless connection will connect. Both spin in circles saying "Acquiring IP Address." I have since connected two other devices to the connection, so I now that my issue is not laying with the router. Since this issue has started, I have been scouring the internet for solutions and haven't been able to find one. I have checked the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties and they are set to obtain automatically. Because of the things that I have seen on the blogs I have come across and what I am seeing on my computer, I am wondering if I have some form of malware attached to my system.

Hello,
I purchases a Sony Vaio Intel i3 2 weeks ago largely because its a Sony and because of the Wireless Display it offered using Netgear Push2TV 1000.
My first day the WiDi worked perfectly but then I got busy installing and updating the computer.
And now, two weeks later, when I attempted to connect to P2TV the TV screen just says "Could not obtain network address".
I updated the drivers. Nothing changed.
Reset the adapter. Nothing changed.
Enabled My Wifi/checked for Intel Wireless PAN DSCP server/checked firewall. Nothing happened.
I looked up other people having the same issue and there seems to be a lot and they all agree that there is no cure in sight. Apparently, BestBuy even had the balls to tell some of them to restore the computers to its original factory setting to resolve the issue which is pathetic.
Just want to check if anyone here figured this puzzle out yet.
Thank you.

Hey all, I would like to apologize in advance if this problem has been posted numerous times before and is easily resolved. I've worked with computers for a major part of my life, but I've never been in-depth with them.

Alright, now straight to the point.

Specifications:
My laptop is a Sony Vaio VGN-Z16SN running on Microsoft Windows XP Professional, Service Pack 3.

Problem:
For internet access, I've always connected my computer via ethernet cable and never have I had any problems with it until yesterday at least. When I connect it the status shows "Limited or no connectivity", I've tried connecting repairing the connection but it returns with "Windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action cannot be completed: Renewing your IP address". The IP address shows 0.0.0.0 and Subnet Mask 0.0.0.0. Under 'Services' in the administrative tools, I've checked that the DNS Client as well as the DHCP Client are both running. I've tried manually entering the IP Address, but to no avail, the connection status would show "Connected" but but I am unable to actually use the internet showing "Server not found" on my internet browsers, therefore I set it back to Auto. Under command prompt, whenever I type ipconfig /renew the following error would occur:

I have an HP pavilion mx 70 desktop and an hp laptop. The desktop is connected via ethernet to the router, and the laptop is wireless. The modem is separate. I have cable highspeed internet access. Up until about a week ago both computers were able to access the internet. All of a sudden, neither computer could get on the internet through the router. I have to run the ethernet cable directly to the modem, and then I can get on the internet.

I can't acquire a network address - it just gets stuck, and I get the same message, this connection has little or no connectivity.

The router was a linsys. I thought that was the problem, so I bought a new d-link router, but same issues - no internet.

D-link tech support walked me through assigning a static address and pinging, but no luck. I can't even get into the router by typing its address into the browser.

Device Manager doesn't indicate that there is any problem with the nic card, but I did uninstall it and then reboot.

I have turned off, reset, etc. both the modem and router.

I have also tried release and also tried somethin with winsock

I am just computer literate enough to function, and to get myself in trouble, but I would appreciate any help.

I think the rootkit is gone for now, the network won't acquire the IP address. If I manually set the IP address, it will not register DNS properly, however the internal file sharing network works using this method, but no the internet access. I've tried running the Network Diagnostic tool, and NetShell utilities to reset the TCP/IP stack and Winsock, but same problem still exists. I even tried the repair install. I'm guessing the removal of the rootkit did something to the registry that prevents the IP from being assigned automatically. As you can see in the log, I've used many tools to try to fix it. Hi,
Machine with Win7 Pro 32bit.
This peculiar problem from 4 days, when the machine is logged in, it takes very long time to acquire ip address (though its a static ip).
The Network icon at the task bar keeps searching (rotating) and meanwhile I cannot open any folders or applications.
It gets connected after a while approx 10-15 minutes.

I have reset the winsock. Tried stopping some unwanted services in msconfig, disabled the built-in firewall, uninstalled antivirus (security essentials).
No hopes...
Any workarounds....

Thanks,
Kiran

A:Taking long time to acquire ip address after rebooting

Hello,

Click start>run. Type 'cmd' and press enter. In the command prompt type in 'ipconfig /all' and press enter. Paste the results into the thread.

From what you have said it sounds as though it is looking for an IP address and doesnt have a static address assigned.

I have a 10/100 network with 4 wired PC's attached all running Windows XP pro. The architecture is as follows

Virgin Media Super Router connected to fiber internet 60mg internet connection - this is connected to a 4 port netgear switch in the upstairs part on my house. one cat 5 cable links it with the study downstairs into another where there is another netgear 4 port switch. This switch has two pc's attached, one Western Digital NAS and another Netgear wireless router which in turn has two pc's attached. Wireless devices pick up the internet no problem but the four pc's take about an hour to acquire an IP address. This is a fairly new problem, the system has actually worked fine for years.

Any Ideas why?

I am working on a home laptop, running Windows XP Media Center Edition, Service Pack 3. It was infected with the Internet Security Essentials virus, plus who knows what else. The computer appears to be virus free now.

To get functioning again, I ran Malwarebytes Anti-Malware software and the Avast free anti-virus software on a Windows boot-time scan. The Avast was the last function I ran, and I have since run a scan that came up clean. Everything on the computer appears to be working, except the internet.
I have tried both the wired and wireless internet connections, and they both are stuck on "Acquiring network address". Also, there are two computers connected directly to the internet, as well as another laptop working on a wireless connection, so my internet service is fine.

It seems that I knocked something out when finally cleaning out the virus/malware with the Avast, but I don't know how to fix it. I have tried three fixes so far. I reset the TCP/IP. The Windows XP network diagnostics said there was a "problem with the Winsock provider catalog", so I ran the reset it provided. I then also downloaded and ran "WinsockxpFix", which still did not solve the problem.

Can anyone out here help?

A:No Internet After Virus Removal (cannot acquire network address)

I'm having a similar situation. This weekend my ACER laptop running XP was infected with the XP homesecurity 2012 garbage. One of the first things that happened was that the web disconnected and when it tried to reconnect it would cycle around and think while acquiring the network address.

I was able to remove the virus (I'm pretty sure at least), but I still can't get back online. The network is fine, because my wife's computer is able to get online just fine.

I called up the tech support for my internet provider and he set up a new network for me, but I can't connect to that one either. It seems the virus monkeyed up my connection settings.

Please let me know what info you might need to help me with this.

Hi,

My network key was changed recently, and it took a few tries for my laptop to connect, but when it did it was fine. Then the key was changed again, and now my wireless is wonky. Sometimes it can't find the network, other times it will find it but then can't acquire a network address, and if it does manage to connect (sometimes it will as soon as I click 'Cancel' when it's taking forever to get the address) it starts slowing down and then speeding up again.

The settings have not changed on anything, other than the network key.

I'm having issues connecting to a secure wireless network. Network key is definitely correct. I'm running Windows XP...and using a Dell Wireless 1390 WLAN Mini-Card. Things are set to acquire address automatically. When I try to connect though, I get stuck on "acquiring network address"

I've never had issues connecting to any other wireless network before, and am fairly confident this is not a hardware issue.

I'm really not technical...so I don't even know where to start wrt troubleshooting...or what other info to provide here.

Any help would be appreciated!

Recently my computer was infected with the Happili redirect virus. In an attempt to get rid of it, I downloaded TDSSKiller, changed the parameters, and did the scan. It found 2 threats, one of them serious and the other merely "suspicious". The suspicious one was named "Net32" or something similar. I foolishly thought that it wouldn't matter if I went ahead and deleted the Net32 file, so I deleted both threats. When I rebooted my computer, it kept saying that it was trying to connect to my network, but it never actually did; it just eternally keeps trying to connect. I even turned the computer off and on several times, but no luck. I'm afraid that by deleting the mildly suspicious file found by TDSSKiller, I somehow removed a component that the computer needs to connect to the network. Please help if possible! Thank you!

I have the IP address for the network, but don't know how to add this into my computer.

Can someone point me in the right direction please?

Thanks!

A:Wireless network connection - Cannot acquire network address.

Hi

if it hangs or shows limited connectivity ensure you are typing in the correct key, some routers will allow a passphrase for wep others want the key in hexadecimal format.

I just set up a wireless network for my apartment and my two roomates are able to wirelessly connect to it but I am not. I am wired into the router now and when I try to wirelessly connect (without being plugged into the router of course) It gets stuck at "Acquiring Network Address". I am using windows XP on a dell inspiron laptop. I am pretty sure it is not my adapter as I tried a loopback test and it worked. The router is a basic Linksys Wireless G Router. I'm not sure what information to include so please tell me or point me to a similar thread to read.

Also: I read to uninstall and then reinstall my adapter but I am worried about doing this because im not sure how to reinstall it.

edit: I have also tried to Repair function from the Network Connections window.

A:Solved: Cannot "Acquire Network Address"

I'm no expert, but may be able to suggest some things.

Go to START / Control Panel / Network Connections / {RightClick} Wireless

Make sure TCP/IP is selected.

Then try and connect again. If no love, go to START / Run / {Type} cmd {enter} / and in the command line prompt type

ipconfig /all

and then post what is displayed back in these forums, I am sure someone wiwll know where to go from there.

All I am doing is opening Yahoo mail and trying to compose a new email to send to someone who is already in my contacts. When I click "to:" or "insert address" my address book shows up. But when I place a check mark and try to "insert checked contacts" I go to this address on a blank page: http://us.mc1612.mail.yahoo.com/mc/kioskHandler

Concerning my post above: I turned on my older XP computer and I had no problem with inserting an address from the Yahoo! address book.

I compared all my settings in both computers and noticed that I had different settings relating to how pop-ups are handled. XP reminded me that the address book takes the form of a pop-up. On my Vista I had pop-ups opening up (?) in a webpage. That is the page which came up blank. After I have corrected the settings, I no longer have a problem.

I have a Dell Latitude D630 with Windows XP installed on it. My Wireless adapter is an Intel(R) Wireless Wifi Link 4965AGN.

My current issue is that after my router (Belkin F7D1301 v1) crashed and had to be reset, I have not been able to access my router. It says it is unable to renew the IP address. However, I am able to access a different unsecured wireless network and my other computer has no trouble accessing the router.

When I try to run 'ipconfig' it opens the cmd prompt and quickly closes it. I can run 'ipconfig' by opening cmd prompt and entering the command from there.

The only thing that I can think of is that something got messed up after the router crash or its a result of installing Ad-Aware Antivirus (which I have since uninstalled and am still having issues). Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

IP Address: 192.168.2.2
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.2.1

Media State.....: Media disconnected

When I try to put a manual IP address (192.168.2.1) into the wireless TCP/IP settings it connects to my router for about 5 seconds and then disconnects...

Hi Guys,
I've got a major problem adding a new PC (Dell) to my Home Network.

My existing network is VERY small, but works OK. It comprises 1 Emachines PC (Win XP Home) and a Cable modem, connected via an Edimax 5 port ethernet switch. I can access Broadband Internat with no problems. The Link/Act Lights on the Switch Flicker in unison.

When I plug in the new Dell (Win XP Home), the Link/Act lights on the switch, flicker exactly the same on all used ports, so it looks like I have a Physical connection.

The Network Icon on the Emachines PC says:- Speed 100Mbps, Status Connected.

The Network Icon on the Dell says:- Speed 100Mbps, Status Limited or No connectivity.

When I select Repair on the Dell, I get the error Message Unable to renew IP Address.

I have tried to set an IP Adress manually, but don't know how to do it properly.

I have Windows Firewall turned Off on the Dell and Norton Internet Security Disabled on the Emachine.

I have contacted Dell, whose responce was to change the Motherboard on the Dell, but it's still exactly the same.

I am at the end of my tether and ready to throw the Dell out of the Window.

Please help if you can.

Thanks in anticipation.

Regards,

Paul.

I have a wireless home network. I have two laptops both of which I use with a wireless card. On one of them I am able to use it without any problem. On the other laptop however, although it shows the laptop as connected to the wireless network, it does not obtain a valid ip address. When I look for the ip address, it gives me an invalid address: 169. x.x.x
I was using the wireless connection at another friends place yday using the same laptop and it connected just fine. When I try to do an ipconfig /release, it gives me back the same ip address 169. instead of a 0.0.0.0
Also, when I try an ipconfig /renew, it just times out.

Any ideas? Am completely frustrated by now (.

My IP address was manually configured previously and was working fine until I tried the Virgin installation. Now the PC shows that there is limited or no connectivity and the settings have been changed to assign IP automatically. I then contacted Virgin who told me that I would have to fix the settings as Virgin will only work with automatically assigned IP addresses. The internet is working fine now but I cant seem to fix the limited conncetivity problem and wont be able to change over to Virgin until this problem is fixed

Basically my PC is unable to contact the dchp server and renew its IP address.

I have tried the following but still the same problem:

I am in a house with five computers successfully connected by wireless to a router.
Recently, the router was reset. All the computers were able to re-connect again without any problems, except one, which now seems unable to get an address from the router, and uses an autoconfiguration IP address instead.

The computer that is not working is running Vista SP1 (but other Vista computers are connected). All adapters are set to 'Obtain automatic IP address'

I have since carried out the following tests:

- Connected the computer via ethernet cable: All OK.
- Whilst still connected, enable the wireless connection: All OK.
- Disconnect the ethernet cable, and keep the wireless connection active: All OK.
- Disconnect the wireless connection, and then restart the wireless connection: No IP address.

I have reset the IP stack using...

netsh winsock reset catalog
netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log
netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log

... but this has made no difference.

I have removed the wireless connection from 'Manage wireless networks' and reconnected, but this made no difference.

I have turned off the firewall temporarily, but this has made no difference.

It seems as if the wireless connection is unable to obtain a DHCP address via wireless, but is
able to obtain an address from the wired connection.

Hi,
I have an odd problem that I can't figure out. I recently had a malware/virus issue that was resolved. However, after the issue was resolved, it was discovered that I was missing numerous Windows XP critical updates. after visiting the update site and rebooting I now have an issue with my wireless internet. I still have an internet connection, however I have a poor signal quality and the tray icon "wireless network connection status" is always present trying to "acquire a network address". Please Note, this an HP laptop with windows XP Sp3. It uses the HP wireless network assistant to set up the internet connection. however I never had this problem even when I was infected with virus/malware. I also never had this happen anywhere that my spouse went, it always connected without any problems. I wasn't until I went to windows update that this problem happened. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Some things to try, do you have a router or modem, reset them to see if they are stuck.

I am assuming you are not using a dial up? In Internet Explorer go to Tools>Internet Options? Click the Conections tab, and then the LAN Settings Button, make sure 'detect settings automatically' is checked.

See if that helps, do you have any signs of malware infection?

Recently we had our internet upgraded to get more Mbps. But right after they upgraded our internet there are some weird things going on with the internet. Whenever I go to a video streaming website the video will be replaced with a message
"Unable to resolve server's DNS address"
If it does not display that message it will load the video, but it will load it as slow as if we had a dial up connection; but the case is we have 15Mbps down and 1.2Mbps up with 30-40 ping. (speedtest.net) I was just wondering if there was any way to solve
this. I have tried some of the solutions posted on this website but none seem to worked. Please help and thank you.

A:Unable to Resolve Server's DNS Address

Hi,
Have you contacted your internet service provider (ISP) as DNS usually are ISP related. Have they reset their modem or router,  not just power cycle?
I suggest you change the Preferred DNS server, try the following steps:
1. Click "Start", input "NCPA.CPL" (without quotation marks) and press Enter.
2. Right click on the connection that you use for the local connection, and then click "Properties".
3. Click to select "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)", and then click "Properties".
4. In the Internet Protocol window, let's change the "Preferred DNS server" to 208.67.222.222
5. Click 'OK' twice to complete the modification.
If the issue persists, please repeat the steps and change the "Preferred DNS server" to 208.67.220.220.
Also, if the issue persists, I suggest you run the following command:
ipconfig /release

ipconfig /renew
To get IP address & DNS from DHCP, the DNS server should be internal DNS server IP.

Hope this helps,
Ada Liu

Weird issue here. Friend's XP PC was filled with malware, after working on cleaning it off for about 2 days, we elected to back up the data and reinstall the OS. At my house (after reinstalling everything), it works fine (hard wired GB eth). I get all of the updates done (SP3 and all current updates) and take it back over to his house, can't get his wireless to connect (Linksys WUSB600N to Fastweb router). So I start poking. Sorry about the randomness of the following pieces of information, but I can't think of a way to organize them:

Freshly reloaded XP PC won't connect to router, using XP or Linksys software.
Pre-existing XP laptop connects via wireless just fine.
Router/ADSL modem is from Italian telecom company Fastweb.
From pre-existing XP laptop, I'm unable to get to the router homepage (using either GW or DHCP server IP address) to check if possible the router has run out of IP addresses due to other devices in the house... PSP, iPod, etc (the telecom company *might* be throttling down the number of addresses)
I've rebooted the router multiple times, and the pre-existing XP laptop gets back online immediately. I'm still not able to connect the desktop, including if I disconnect the laptop and try to connect the rebuilt desktop without the laptop being connected, after rebooting the router with the laptop off.
I tried manually assigning the rebuilt desktop an IP address a few above the laptop, and using the same GW, SM, and DNS entr... Read more

Hi,

I am unable to change the IP Address Manually on MY Laptop. Please help

the properties are not highlighted. Please help !

A:Unable to Change IP Address Windows 8.1 Pro

The first question is, is this your computer, or is it a computer given to you by school or work? Third party Internet Security software can also restrict you from changing the IP info for the Network adapter.

I am using Aspiration Hosting to host my zen cart stores. I have been trying to demo software Store Manager by MagneticOne. I have been unable to connect to my zen cart stores because of some errors. But, my main concern right now is that I can no longer use my ip address to access my cpanel at Aspiration Hosting. They gave me a work around, but it doesn't resolve the problem.

They have checked things out on their end and this is their response:
"If you are still getting this error then try to CD to the \windows or \windows\system32 directory and run it from there. Also check the permissions on telnet.exe. It might be restricted to admin's in your OS. Since you are able to access the cPanel login page using the URL http://cpanel.barceranch.com/ every thing works on the server. So I believe that the issue is on your end. I would also recommend you to check the issue after disabling your firewalls and antivirus softwares if you have configured any. Hi,

I have a netgear wireless router, not sure on the model but can find out if required. My xbox360 is hard wired to the router and my Laptop is connected wirelessly to the router using the internal wireless connection on the laptop.

The other half has a laptop too, for some reason her will not connect wirelessly, just gets stuck on a constant loop of ''aquiring ip address'' and does not get past this point. Laptop works if hard wired to the router.

can anyone help, how do i get ip address to assign.

thanks

A:Unable to obtain IP address on 2nd laptop

Is this related to your 2nd post here http://forums.techguy.org/networking/979399-xbox-360-probs-when-laptop.html
it could get confusing try to fix two problems which may be related together - so i have closed the 2nd post - to avoid confusion - for example if you upgrade the firmware on the router as suggested - but we dont know that here .......

can we see an ipconfig /all from the working wireless connected laptop
and then the same from the non-working laptop - also download and copy to the non-working laptop xirrus and lets see a screen shot

on the non-working laptop - what security suite do you have or ever had on PC - Norton, Mcafee etc

Hi all,

I use Chrome most often and I'm constantly getting the Error 105 (net::ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED): Unable to resolve the server's DNS address, with "sending request" at the bottom of my screen.

The problem happens with other browsers as well. Some useful information: it never happens on my work laptop, which uses the same router. I upgraded my router when it first started happening, and also changed from Windows firewall to Zone Alarm, and changed to AVG free for anti-virus. Still happening. So I think it must be something in my laptop software/settings and is not related to the router or the firewall.

I have no idea of what to do. It's the strangest thing. When I first started having problems, I noticed that the CSS didn't fully load on Yelp.com. Then I started getting the error 105. When I get that error, the only thing I can do to fix it is restart the computer. I've tried clearing the cache, but it does nothing. I've done every suggestion Google has to fix the problem and nothing fixes it. Just now images stopped loading on Facebook, then the CSS was all screwed up, so I just went ahead and restarted.

Sometimes after I restart and my internet is working well, it happens again within five minutes. Maddening. Hence my user name...

Another strange thing is that sometimes my network connection suddenly changes to local only. It's rare though and is not happening every time I get this Error 105. I got the Error 105 all day ... Read more
