I've a pc around 4 years old and now I'm thinking to buy a new pc. I'm a graphic designer hence work a lot in photoshop, 3d max, zbrush etc. as well as I'm a game lover specially first person shooter like BBC2, MW2 etc. Can any body suggest what configuration should I choose which covers my all needs?

A:What system configuration should I choose to buy a powerful pc

The price can vary depending on each manufacturer but usually you can get yourself a PC that's cheaper and even more powerful than a pre-configured one.
Ease... well it depends on what you understand with ' ease '...building yourself a computer configuration involves knowledge about PC hardware (how to install each part) and software(installing the operating system and the rest of the hardware and configuring your Internet connection).
Also, there are some things that need to be taken into account when building a PC.
First of all: the purpose of building it(gaming, office and easy stuff, video editing, programming etc.)
After that, you definitely need to be careful when choosing the hardware, not only because you may encounter compatibility problems but also because , sometimes you need to do some research or, ask someone who's ' up-to-date ' with the hardware thing(don't get DDR2 memory, check the graphics card's interface and clocks, check the CPUs L2 cache, the motherboard's features, the power supply's connectors and wattage, the amount of RAM and the frequency it operates at, the memory's latency...etc.).
Other things...well, choosing a sound system can't be too hard and well , the display...make sure it's got good contrast ratio , response times, get a wide screen one if you want more space to work on.

Usally begins with a flicker or a bit lag, and then within 3 seconds after that the screen goes black, and after the screen goes black the notebook shuts down.
Happened with many games already.

some help will be greatly appriciated.

Im running games on a MIS GX740 notebook with a i5 CPU, and a ATI HD5870 graphics card (1gb ddr5 vram).
i got 4gigs of ddr3 ram.
newest ati video driver.

thanks

EDIT: i have a game called timeshift, and it lags terribly, even when the game should run normal on my PC. but i tried re-installing the game dead space today, and im experiencing the same lag. This sucks real heavy, because i played dead space before on the same notebook before it crashed some time ago, and it ran real smooth.
EDIT2: shit, split second does desame to me.

A:Powerful Gaming Notebook shuts down during gameplay

Could be a pooched cooling fan. Do you
have any other programs that require heavy
lifting by your cpu or graphics card. Avivo
Photoshop, that kind of thing. Run them and see
if one or both cause your laptop to shut down.

Which magazine isbetter? Do both have demo disks?

A:PC Gamer vs. Computer Gaming World?

I know PC Gamer comes with demo disks. I like PC Gamer's focus on only PC games. I'm not sure about Computer Gaming World as I only buy that on odd occassions.

That being said, PC Gamer has gotten "cheap" the this year: they use thinner paper and have less content than before. We kept the subscription because the game reviews pretty much are dead-on and we like their take on game previews.

You could also check out Gamespot.com, but I don't find it as entertaining as PC Gamer.

Hi all,

I'm looking to build a PC for a friend of mine. He will use it primarily for gaming, but he is on a budget.. would like to play all modern games, but want to keep it under $1000. Last time I built a computer was about five years ago, so I'm definitely out of the loop when it comes to latest hardware... would such thing even be possible?

Any suggestions on configuration? Many thanks!!!

I own a PC with the following specs presently:
Motherboard - Intel D945GCR, Processors - Intel(R) Pentium(R) D CPU 3.00GHz, 3000 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 2 Logical Processor(s),Graphics Card - Nvidia Geforce GT430, RAM - 2GB DDR2, SMPS - Intex 400W
I am planning to upgrade my PC after six long years to be able to play games like Max Payne3, Far Cry3, Crysis3 etc. in high graphics settings without any hitch.I am not looking to upgrade again after this for another 3-4 years. What will be the best configuration for me within a budget of around Rs.30000?

A:Best PC configuration for gaming within Rs.30000/-

You will probably have to start from scratch for the most part. You can probably reuse things like: keyboard, mouse,HDD ,monitor and your optical drive. However, to get to the performance you want. You will need a new MOBO,CPU,GPU and PSU. If you could tell me where you would possibly be buying these parts. I could try and help configure the build for you. Since, I am not familiar with your currency. I have no idea where to look for parts for you.

Where will you be purchasing the parts from? Flipkart? Also, it my be hard to build a PC in that price range when you are buying in Rupees. The costs will be inflated due to imports and such.

Hi everyone
I'm Indrashis,I live in Kolkata(India) and I want to build a midrange gaming rig for around 26000-30000 rupees.
I have keyboards and mouse and a 16inch LCD monitor so i wont be buying those things and i will be playing Crysis,COD 6,Metro 2033 etc games.
(Also I want to have DDR3 RAM in my rig)
Please suggest accordingly.

A:System configuration for mid-budget gaming pc

Hi Indrashis95. Welcome to Techspot.

With a budget of around 30K INR you'll have to make do with an AMD dual or triple core system.

Look into the Phenom II X2 555 BE or if you can find the Phenom II X3 720. Any board with an AMD 770 / 870 chipset should do fine. You might be able to squeeze in the Phenom II X4 925 if you find a cheap enough motherboard.

As you'll be gaming on a 16" monitor I assume that your resolution will not exceed 1280x1024. A Radeon HD 5770 will be more than enough. In fact you could even consider the cheaper HD 4770 / 4850 for your system.

A 2x2GB DDR3 kit will do good. A good quality 450W PSU (with sufficient amps on the 12V rails) should run the system.

Just hunt around for the best possible prices. The vendors here are usually out to fleece you.

Incidentally, I'm also from Kolkata.

OK, I'll give a brief overview of what I'm working with and then describe my problem. I have a relatively new notebook (bought it about 2 months ago, I wouldn't think the exact specs are necessary but if they are let me know), a DSL connection and I have a Linksys Wireless-G router.

I've attempted to play two games online with a friend (Age of Empires 3 and Diablo 2), both of which resulted in nothing by headaches. In both games we attempted to directly connect to each other via IP. He also has a notebook and is using a wireless router. We've tried it both ways; me trying to connect to him and vice versa, same problem both times.

Now, I don't know a whole lot of anything about networking and routers and the such, but I'll put in what I do know. When I try hosting a Direct IP game, both games listed an IP at the top of the screen, but it wasn't my IP, it was what I think is called the local IP? It's 192.168.1.1; now I know that's the address to the router and if I type that in my browser address bar I can access the router's configuration and all that good stuff. I also noticed that if i go to that address one of the options under the router configuration is "Applications and Gaming". When I go there it lists a bunch of stuff about opening ports and triggering ports and some other stuff that I've never heard of.

I've talked to a few people and they tell me that I would need to open certain ports and... Read more

Well, hello there!

Thanks in advance for all suggestions/help with this process. My name is Sam, and my computer is an Acer Aspire 6920 running Vista. Okay, let's get started.

So, a couple days ago I updated my MalwareBytes software, and upon rebooting the computer I found that it took even longer than normal to boot up, and as soon as I hit pretty much anything on the start bar (like trying to quick launch my browser) I was met with a perpetual blue loading loop for a mouse. Super annoying. So I've run scans with Avira, MalwareBytes, SuperAntiSpyware, Windows CleanUp, a registry fixer, and I've defragged the computer, all with no luck.

So, I now turn to your infinite wisdom in assistance. Here's your HiJack log. It's up to you wizards now -- I'm at your mercy.

Thanks again,
Sam

Hi Spoonhead98,

I would recommend using an online "power supply calculator" to answer your own question. This one seems fairly comprehensive:

This will give you the opportunity to input all equipment that draws power so you can get a more accurate view of the total draw.

Hey guys. I just bought myself a load of components for a self-build, but I need to find a graphics card to finish off the rig. Specs are as follows:

AMD Athlon 64 3000+ S939
512Mb DDR PC3200 Corsair RAM
MSI K8N Platinum/SLI NForce 4 MoBo
350W PSU (Generic. Sorry!) Not sure how important this is though?
Western Digital 80Gb SATA 8Mb Cache HDD Again, not sure how important this is.

Was wondering what you guys thought of those specs (cost 375 inc DVD, Floppy, Case, Delivery, Win XP)? Now I've just gotta decide on the GPU to go with it... I won't need to think about future gaming. If I could play Half Life 2 at Medium settings with good Frame Rate I'd be happy (and by good frame rate, I mean playable, not having to be 100+). But, and heres the kicker, I'd like to keep it under 75, and closer to 50 if possible :unch: . Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, and the only stipulation is that its PCI or PCI-E.

Many thanks for the help I've already received,
Will

A:Which is more powerful

If nvidia says its not a good idea then I'd take their advice. With more than 2, you might also cut into the maximum PCIE 16x bandwidth in which you get bottlenecked and the 3rd doesnt give an equal performance return as the 2nd did to the 1st video card. If it was my build, I'd go with 2 video cards vs 3. Unless your going to be crunching data with the GPU's vs gaming like [email protected] etc, your going to find that you likely will have plenty of GPU power with 2 and anything greater wont be noticeable performance gain in games and will be a waste of money in both the 3rd card as well as greater electric bill to run the system.

My computer crashes upon booting into windows xp (or linux graphical interface), or after a few hours of running either os. So far I've replaced:

-the cpu (athlon 1.4 ghz)
-the ram (crucial)
-the motherboard (fic ad11, then an abit)
-the graphics card (geforce2, geforce4)

Nothing works (and this is getting expensive)! Lowering the FSB from 133 to 100 mhz makes no difference. Even severely underclocking the system does not help. The system temperature has always been fine.

Just yesterday I noticed that the core voltage of my athlon was 1.87, though it is supposed to be 1.75. Even overclocking web sites don't recommend running an athlon thunderbird beyond 1.85). I couldn't imagine why this was, since I hadn't overclocked my system, and I had enabled automatic voltage regulation. So I figured I'd change the voltage setting to manual and set it to 1.75 myself. Shockingly, my motherboard monitoring software reported the core voltage remained at 1.87. So, I manually lowered the voltage to its lowest setting (down .05 o 1.7), and my system similarly reported a drop in voltage of .05 to 1.81. I though my problems were nearly solved. (and here's where we get to the psu...)

However, stability did not improve at all. I figured perhaps 1.81 was still too high, and I would need a motherboard that could properly regulate it's voltage. But, recall that I had at one point replaced the motherboard, with no success. So now my theory is that my problem doe... Read more

core 2 duo because its l2cache is larger and is 2MB L2 cache per core and runs at 1066FSB with a 9x Multiplier. While the Pentium D has a 1MB L2 cache per core and runs at 533FSB. The core 2 duo is faster.

My old psu that I've had for about two years went dead on me last week. So, I ordered the following PSU from newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817153023

After plugging everything in (I've put a couple of pc's together from scratch including this one so while I'm no expert, I know my way around inside the case), it wouldn't post. After fiddling a bit and unplugging the power cable from the hard drive, it did POST! I could get into bios and everything. However, it wouldn't boot windows -- it gave me an error. Well, of course -- how can it boot windows with the hard drive lacking a power cable!? Unfortunately, plugging the power cable from the psu back in to the HD would cause the computer to not POST. After fiddling further around for an hour, the computer simply does not want to POST as long as a power cable from the PSU is plugged into the HD. The only thing I can think of is that my PSU doesn't pack enough punch for my computer, with the power going to the hard drive pushing it just over the top. Anyone have any ideas?

I'll be sure to post the exact error in a bit when I go to work on it some more today.

My specs: Geforce 6800 gt, about six or so fans in the case, 120gb HD, 1 gb ram, Athlon 64 3200+...

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Do I need to order another PSU? :/

The PSU I ordered: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817153023

Well i am building a new computer and being i am in IT i decided to go ahead and get vista so i can get myself use 2 it, i am building a computer solely for vista ultimate, and nothing else... it will be eventually my everyday pc/gamming pc... here is the specs and was wondering hows vista going to look/run?
case - thermaltake xaser II
mb - gigabyte ga m57sli - s4
cpu - amd x2 6000+
ram - 4gigs Gskill 6400+
hd - 80gig wd sata (vista only) dual 250's
video - evga 9800gtx +

A:powerful enough for vista

Not bad at all.. Looks pretty good. For one, why go AMD. intel's new Duo's are lookin really good. If your not set on that Mobo I'd get something that can do the 45nm Duo's and get a e8400-8600 those things are ROCK solid. and also why get g-skill 6400 get 8000, or 8500. unless thats again limited by the Mobo?

are you going for a decent system, are you tryin to do a budget system.? if not there's some much better Motherboard choices that would allow a better CPU. Also on the 9800+ I almost got that on my new build. but might as well spend the $70 or 80 more and get the 260. thats what I got, and it's a great card.

edit* and instead of Dual 250's. get one Seagate 500GB 32mb cache 7200.10 or even better a 7200.11 the (11) is there newest technology. and this HD have 32mb cache. and the 250's only have 16mb. well most of them. The one I just described is the best price to performance HD you can get thats not a raptor, or a velicrapter or something extreme. and it can be found for around $79.99 on BUY.com or a little more elsewhere.

I need to replace my iffy 500W PSU.

I have seen a quiet 400W one that is quite nice.

Would 400W be powerful enough to run:

AMD X2 5200+ AM2
MSI K9N AM2 Motherboard
SATA HDD
GeForce 7600GT PCI-E(x16)
4x Technotrend budget S2-3200 tuner cards
4GB DDR2 RAM 800MHz

This system will be mainly used for HDTV not gaming.

Many thanks,
Rob

A:400W PSU powerful enough?

Depends on the quality of the PSU. I think a good one will handle that fine, a $30 one probably won't, or at least not for long.

Here's my build. I bought online a second matching GPU for crossfire (which is still being shipped), which brings my system requirements to 765w while my PSU is rated for 750w. Using PSU calculators they all seem to agree that my new system, plus overclocking, will be about 865w. I'm in Canada so the really good PSUs are expensive, and the cheaper ones have terrible reviews and seem to all die in a year. I'm looking at a Cooler Master V1000 which Memory Express has on sale for $180, and my local stores have a couple in stock (but very limited supplies) so I can buy it but I should hurry before it's out of stock.
So yay or nay? is there anything cheaper that you would trust? Though really saving $60 may not be worth it.

A:Need a more powerful PSU. Advice?

You might want to check the reviews out ...... newegg has some pretty negative reviews but only on the life of the PSU. Seems to be short lived with the odd few exceptions. I would look at Seasonic, XFX, Antec for a brand.

Also, use one of those online PSU calculators to determine minimum required wattage.

thanks in advance

A:Powerful Fan for my Server

You need to take your Power Supplies ability, early in the calculation.
Most large fans are designed to work slowly and silently.
If it is not overheating at the moment, what do you expect to achieve by adding a larger fan?

5.1, for that one would think that you would need professional grade software. I've never done much audio editing, but i hear really good things about ACID and SoundForge from sony. Not cheap though. ther is also audacity, which is what i use, but i dont kniow about 5.1 on that.

So the basic question is : what PSU to get for the following config....i got lost between hooking up 2 480W NC watercooled PSUs or getting one big PSU trying to get something silent, and putting less disco lights.

here it goes:

Basic:
A8nN-Sli
Fx 55 (cooled by the vapochill)
2x 6800Ultra PCIe
2x Seagate Ultra320 (via adaptec ultra320)
1x Audigy 2zs
2gigs twinmos

Cooling:
Vapochill!
7x120Fans
1xBlackIceExtreme III
1xInnovatek Ehiem 12v pump
Cooling pattern:
pump>Chipset>SLi>""PSUs"">HDD cooling box>Water meter (approx: 30cm high)>Radiator>pump

Extras:
1xDVD/CD etc...
1xDVD Rom
1xCrystalfontz #634
1xInnovatek Fan-o-matic

Lights: Depending, considering the PSU.

If you have any suggestions pls help.

Thanks

A:Need advice on PSU for new powerful rig.

You've got some beefy hardware picked out there.

With the already strenous requirements of the 6800, I'd suggest no less than a name brand 450W - 480W PSU. If you can get a nice Enlight 550, I'd take that. That should be sufficient. I'd initially have the bare minimum installed, and test the PSU for at least 24 hours to ensure it is stable and that the voltage stays within 10% of what it should be. After that, add the rest of the hardware.

My question, why are you using case fans when the most important components are being water cooled? I'd use less internal fans and focus more on getting airflow around those video cards.

I have a 2 year old Intel E6550 (Dual 2.33) with 4 Gigs of RAM and a video card with one gig of RAM so when I video talk with someone and want to do some computer work like sending pictures or just screwing around with the computer my CPU's are pushing 90%+. I thought it was my slow 3 meg Cox but my CPU's' go pass that 90% mark if I'm just browsing my computer. Maybe it needs a good cleaning but I kept it pretty much junk free and I only use about 15% of my hard drives space so I'm wondering if I need a more muscular PC?

I am going to get a 9800 GX2 at the end of this month. I have an Asus Maximus motherboard and a Q9450. My current PSU is a 650W Seasonic that a bought a few months ago. Will this be powerful enough or do I need to buy a new PSU?

A:Is my PSU powerful enough for 9800 GX2?

The GX2 requires 580 watt minimum for a single card if running in sli then you looking at 800 watts minimum, also a 8 pin power connector as well as the 6 pin is required to connect to the card and such some have found that their power supply doesn't have the 8 pin connector and had to buy a new power supply or a adapter. also be aware that it's just not about wattage the GX2 is said to draw near to 40A on the 12v rail and such your power supply will need to support this as well. i have provided a link below that lists the power supplys that work with the GX2.

Hi

I'm currently the proud owner of a 7-year-old (yes, really) Dell Latitude D830 laptop which has 4Gb of memory. Off the top of my head I can't remember the processor speed. It also has a 72Gb hard drive.

At the moment I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate edition and am considering a move to Windows 10 (probably pro edition) 32-bit. My question is this though: whilst everything I've read suggests that the 32-bit version will run happily on 1Gb of memory, I'm sure I read similar when Windows Vista was released (which as we know turned out to be untrue).

So, will my 4Gb of memory be enough? Come to that, will my 72Gb of hard drive be enough? I'm happy to increase the capacity of the hard drive if required but I don't have any option to do the same with the memory since it's at the maximum the board can support.

Any comments or suggestions, gratefully received.

TIA

A:Is my laptop powerful enough

Yes it will be fine. I'm running 10 Pro x64 on 2006 Core2Duo with 3GB RAM and it works fine. Some say 10 is faster than 7 but I can't say I've noticed either way (except booting is quicker).

32 bit uses (about 1GB) less disk space than 64 bit but either will use less space than a fully updated Windows 7. Just make sure you have enough space for the upgrade (about 20GB free) and then run disk cleanup after (unless you are doing a clean install).

Hi, Hope you can help.

Been infected with the FBI Anti-Piracy Warning MoneyPak Ransomware;
I read the information here under "Virus Removal"
However, even in safe mode, the screen is locked by virus, for all users and administrator.

Virus takes about 4 seconds to remove desktop and lock it both in safe mode and normal mode
I have an old RKill on my desktop which even though I am able to click it before the virus locks the screen, it does not seem to end the virus, which could be due to a few reasons I guess.

As recommended here, I have downloaded the iExplore.exe Rkill just now to a flash drive - can this be engaged to the computer...not sure how to do this

I currently have a 600W PSU by Xilence Power.

I've recently upgraded to a more powerful video card (HD 5700 series) and since then, when I start up my computer, it does not start up right away and instead my hard drive makes about 15 whirring noises (like it's starting up but then winds down) before POSTing and starting up. I was told it was my PSU's lack of power causing it.

Now I want to upgrade to an ASUS AM3 mobo and Phenom II x4 processor.
What is a recommended PSU wattage?

Someone said 6 cores is not needed for gaming. World of Warcraft requires CPU power in 25 people raids. I have a dual core 2.2 GHz and my FPS drops to under 10 FPS. What would fix it? x4 core with more GHz or x6 with less GHz than the x4?

A:Upgrading PSU, mobo, CPU - How powerful do I need?

Many games don't utilize multiple core cpus. I don't play WoW, so I'm not sure about that one. In any case, for games that don't utilize multiple cores, the number of cores won't matter, it would be more beneficial to have a faster speed.

As for the power supply, get a quality unit (Corsair or SeaSonic), 750 or higher.

We are going to purchase a new computer because we are planning on hiring someone else..

So before i purchase that computer i want to ask the experts opinions' on whether i should buy a more powerful computer (more HD space, more RAM, more processing power) or should i just buy a server?

Like i've said, it's a small office.. and 3 computers and soon to be 4.. the other computers will retrieve the information.. and when it is done it will save it onto the "servers" HD

The Belkin I'm thinking of is this one:

I have read here on forums to use diagnostic startup, and i did, and speed is normal in that mode

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:Very Slow Shut Down on powerful PC

Hello senA and welcome to Seven Forums.

This tutorial may help:

Shut Down -Speed Up

You could also see if your computer is set by default to clear the page file at shut down. This file could be a couple of gigabytes in size and the clearing process could add considerable time to the shut down. Navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management

If ClearPageFileAtShutdown = 1, change the value to 0 and restart the computer for the change to take effect. (If you don't see ClearPageFileAtShutdown then it means the computer is not clearing the page file.) CAUTION: Create a new system restore point or have a current system image available before editing the registry, just in case.

I intend to run a Sapphire HD7770 GHz edition OC, alongside a i5 3570K.
will this be a bottleneck? I want to run games such as skyrim or MW3 at medium/high graphics.

here's the rest of the parts:

4GB (2x2gb) Kingston 1600MHz RAM (will be adding a second set soon)
Seagate Barracuda 500GB 7200 RPM (will be adding another one to run in RAID 0)
Corsair HX 650 (will possibly be adding a second HD7770 to run in CrossFireX)
Coolermaster Hyper TX3-EVO, in push-pull configuration (will possibly be upgrading to Hyper 612)
ASRock Z77 Pro 3 Motherboard
Corsair Carbide 400r Case

cheers for any feedback

A:Is the i5-3570K too powerful for an HD 7770?

That setup should be able to play those games pretty well unless you're playing multi screen or on a 30". There will always be a bottleneck (it's usually your wallet) and in this case your processor would be able to supply a faster video card, but or the games you mention it should be no problem. If you start playing on high settings with anti-aliasing you might start seeing a bit of a performance issue.

Hi. I recently moved myself and my new laptop to the other end of our house and my wifi signal is pathetic and/or intermittent. I am using a Netgear router I've had for ages, which has a theoretical range of 30m. I'm probably 15m and two rooms away from it. Can anyone suggest what brand and other specifications of router would transmit a good signal in these circumstances? Thanks.

A:Recommend a powerful router

Quote:
I am using a Netgear router I've had for ages

That's a big clue to problems. It may be time for one of the g/n models with dual 2.4GHz and 5GHz. I got a lesser known Router sold by Western Digital, has been great for a couple of years now. Impacting Wi-Fi can be things like in older houses with lead-based paint on the walls, insulation in walls [usually with add-on rooms or working from outside]. The type of connection from the Modem is important in knowing if the devices can be move to a location with a straighter shot to the computer/s. Wi-Fi is not much different from the CB radios, line of sight, distance and nothing in the way such as appliances in the kitchen if in direct line to impede the signal.

So today I bought my self parts to build a new computer for my parents, here are the parts:
A10-5800K
Gigabyte F2A85XM-D3H
Cooler master elite 342
Kingston 4GB DDR3-1600
Western Digital 1 TB blue Sata3
And the power supply im not sure but its a 420W PSU that came with the case, I think its quite low quality but as it came with the case i thought i would just go with it

So when I assembled everything, it didn't start up and the lights just flickered, Then I Connected the Power + and Power - pins together with a screwdriver and the CPU make kind of quiet clunking noises and the PSU fan spun for a brief sec.

Is this caused by not having a PSU powerful enough or is this probably some other reason? though a online wattage calculator says i only 240W for this system :/

If its the PSU Im thinking of getting a Cooler Master GX 550W 80+ Bronze

A:New Computer not powering on,is it because of not powerful enough PSU?

My bet is that the PSU is the culprit because the PSUs that come with these cases are utter crap. I apologize for the way I said that, but I don't know of any other way of saying it right now.

The Cooler Master GX Bronze Series units aren't bad; they're not great, but they're actually somewhat decent. Of course, you can do better than the 550W GX Bronze Series.

My specs are:

8GB System RAM
I play at 1920x1080 resolution!
AMD Quad-Core 2.4GHz rated at:
ATi Radeon HD 6550D (D is for Desktop graphics, f*ck laptops.)
1TB HDD
Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium, 64 bit.

I thought of downgrading to Windows XP. Should I? (Pirated) and please realize in GTA IV, under "Display" my available video ram is 489... wow. WTF, I haz 4GB's that is must not be interpreting. I so hope GTA 5 Isn't this much of a disaster!

Um, anything else I should add? According to "Canyourunit.com" I'm BEAT recommended, but I only get 1-10 FPS. Please help me?

A:GTA IV runs slow, but I have a powerful rig?

Sorry to break it to you, but, no you don't (have a powerful rig)...at least by GTA standards.

Firstly; All the GTA series are CPU clockspeed sensitive. 3.4GHz I would consider "entry level" for the most part, and anything above this would definitely be better.

Secondly; Your graphics card....basically NO, unless you're turning down the graphics options (esp. draw distance) way, way down and using a low screen resolution. Personally I'd place as much faith in "canyourunit" as I would in used car salesmen. You can try YouGamers but this is also going to be very optimistic

I am buying a new computer and I decided most of the parts except the case. I am having problems dedicing on the PSU. I find very good cases but most of them are having a power supply at most 350 watts. I am planning to buy the following parts: For the graphic card: ASUS Extreme N6600GT Silencer/HTD, for mobo ASUS P5WD2 Premium, for processer: Intel 3.0GB single core, 1GB RAM, 2 hard drives, one dvd writer, one dvd reader and other small stuff like floppy drive. The case I am looking for will have 2 fans for its own only (other than the ones on the cards) For the case, I am expecting good cooling. Can you help me if I need a 400 watt or 450 watt PSU? And if I need a 400 watt or 450 watt PSU, is it good to replace the PSU in the case with a more powerfull one that I would buy seperatly; may that cause any problem? And lasty, what is the advantage of having a more powerfull PSU than what I need?

A:How powerful power supply do I need?

advantages of having a powerfull PSU than needed is when upgrading better/powerhungry parts no hassle required, but common sense would be to have more than enough, but not too much to waste $$$...

you can use this psu calculator to check how much juice you need..

and a word of advice, brand does matter, as you'd probably encountered reading through this forum.. just search the forums for good brands to get..

Hi everyone. I would appreciate the opinions of greater computer minds than mine. If you check my specs you will see that I have a small and not very powerful laptop computer. It has been suggested to me by someone I trust that with my little laptop I should not go up to Windows 8 which I had suspected before I got my friends opinion.

I would appreciate it if some of you folks wouldn't mind taking a quick look at my specs and give me your opinion as well. I'm down to about 160 GB on my hard drive. If the general consensus is that I shouldn't go the W8 route, I guess I should relinquish my membership here at 8 Forums as I would then not have anything to add to any problem solving, not that I could make any ground breaking solutions in the first place.

Thank You, David :smoke:

A:Small Laptop Not Powerful Should I Go To W8?

GO FOR IT!

I've been putting some windows 8 builds on machines that wouldn't even run AERO in windows 7 but because AERO is now written into the standard VGA driver you will find that some machines can do more on windows 8 then they could on windows 7.

Hi, today without really thinking it through I downloaded something off a music site and sure enough i got a virus / spyware infection. So basically i've ran every program I can think of and i've deleted several trojans off my computer in the process its just this very pesky hijacked browser thing that wont go away. It also may of perhaps removed the administrative rights for me on my own computer. in the process of trying to delete it i saw it in a scanner, it said "Browser Hijacker.tubby" along with a few other things i cant delete like 9 accounts of adware.tracker.cookie. This browser hacker brings me to sites like...Mevio(some music video site) a few times yellow pages, and also just offbeat web browsers. I've scanned with Superanti virus, malware by antimalware, spy-bot, hijack this, cwshredder, avg and i keep coming up with nothing! I've even run all these in safe mode. I could really use some assistance.

Hi guys,

I am looking for a powerful and very portable computer solution. For traveling.

In the end i will always be using a 24inch monitor whether with a laptop or small pc box. For long hours of work a laptop ain't enough.

I have heard some company is working on portable, foldable, thin, lightweight monitor. This would be ideal to be able to travel without having to ship my monitor to whatever i go.

A powerful thin, lightweight laptop is expensive and cannot be upgraded. Usually lasts 1 year delivering top performance; then declines.

A small PC tower (they are working on a micro tower) might be cheaper and has better performance and may be upgradable, cpu etc...

Do you think a laptop is still the ultimate tool? It certainly is the most convenient out of the box, on the move, work device. And for extra peripherals i'll get a "USB 3.0 Universal Laptop Docking Station" which I heard might bring incompatibilities. I need tools that just work.

Your advice would be greatly appreciated.
And if this site is not the right one for this questions, if you know one better suited for this purpose let me know.

Hello, I write reviews of photographic software and recently I've noticed that I need to have 64bit software and I'm having to turn work away because of it.
I've also found out recently that the Windows 7 Ultimate I have is in fact not a legal copy! I bought the computer custom built with it pre-installed.

I want to buy a legal copy of 7 but would like to know if I can get the 64bit version. My computer properties says I have an AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3700+ 2.21GHz, 3Gb RAM and the System type is a 32 bit operating system. Is the latter the current system?

Do I need to upgrade anything before I buy a download of 7 or is it ready to go?

I understand I'll need to format and do a clean install? Is that right?

Terribly sorry if these seem like simple questions, but as they say; you don't know until you know.

Thanks in advance for any help offered.

A:Context Menu Powerful Uninstall

EEEK! IOBIT! You probably have to just uninstall Iobit uninstaller, which wouldn't surprise me came in piggy back with the download. They ALWAYS try to bundle their other software with what you're downloading. Atleast they don't bundle browser add-ons or toolbars, but you have to be careful with them and after the install they have a final box to uncheck or else you get Advanced System Care or their Malware fighter or uninstaller. The uninstaller is actually pretty good but phones home and not just to update.

Will Windows 7 run smoothly on a non-powerful computer?

what if a PC has this:

Intel Pentium 4, 3.00GHz
512mb DDR2 RAM
98mb Intel Extreme Graphics
80GB Hard Disk

I've tried Windows Vista Ultimate on this computer, and it runs fine but without it's Windows Aero Interface. I also experience problems running games and different programs on it.

I've heard that Windows 7 is lighter than Vista, so will Windows 7 run smoothly on this computer?

Windows 7 will run smoother than Vista on this configuration. You will again lose the Aero effect but games sould run smoother as there are less resources being used.

last month, the mobo broke so i sent it into repair. they re installed XP and sent it back. i put back on all my programs and media files.

About one week later it is the slowest i have this computer. It gets very finicy around the "Pick user" screen when it first turns on.
it freezes very much so it is impossible to get anything done.
it also takes forever to access programs and what have you.

i ran a pc tools spyware doctor scan, an AVG 8.0 free scan. it found one infection; i deleted it. But AVG ran for around 30 hours before stopping.

this computer has fast parts and has never been this slow. i do download the occational torrent but do read the forums about the torrent and virus check it before opening it.

My son has an HP that he wants to put a different video card (Nvidia GeForce 9600) in for a game. If he uses that video card he will need a more powerful power supply. The motherboard is an Asus P4SD-LA (Oxford). I read the following information in the manual, but it doesnt state the maximum power supply only minimum:
Atx power connectors (20-pin ATX_Power1, 4-pin ATX12V)
These connectors connect to an ATX 12V power supply. The plugs from the power supply are designed to fit these connectors in only one orientation. Find the proper orientation and push down firmly until the connectors completely fit.
In addition to the 20-pin ATXPWR connector, this motherboard requires that you connect the 4-pin ATX+12V power plug to provide sufficient power to the CPU.
Make sure that your ATX 12V power supply can provide the 8A on the +12V lead and at least 1A on the +5-volt standby lead (+5VSB). The minimum recommended wattage is 230W, or 300W for a fully configured system. The system may become unstable and may experience difficulty powering up if the power supply is inadequate.
He was hoping to use a 500 watt Corsair power supply. Does anyone know if this will work?
Thanks for any information you can give me.

So I'm working on a Dell XPS 420, which is quite a beauty.

It's got an Intel(R) Core2 Quad CPU at a whopping 2.40GHz, and a nothing to sneeze at 3.0GB of RAM. It's running the 32-bit Version of Windows Vista SP1.

Now that that's out of the way, I should let you know that I fail at MS. I've always used a Linux computer. This happens to be my dads, and the hardware looks nice, smells nice, works nice, but the Operating System is still...crap.

Here's the list of issues.
- Opening .pdf's locks up Vista. Solved- Uninstalled Adobe Installed Foxit Reader.
-MS Office won't open. Solved- Installed OpenOffice
-Taskmanager won't open. Issues- Taskmngr.exe (or whatever it is) is missing. I can't find a place to throw it in the system32 file again.
- It's god AWFUL slow. Issues- It's not a 'nix box.

My dad's not computer literate, he thinks he is, but in all honesty, he's not. And I haven't used a Microsoft Product since they still had Windows 98. I need the above issues solved, he's not running too much in the background, it's just taking Vista way to long to get up off the couch and start moving.

Are there any sort of tips that will make Vista move quicker, you know, slim it down a bit? Cut out things that aren't needed. I mean, the potential of the hardware almost makes me cry when I see what it's actually doing...

A:Powerful machine supports shotty OS.

Is the machine under warranty? If so, then get Dell to fix it. Your methods of repair are a bit odd - replacing a program instead of fixing it is not the way to go. The fact that things don't work indicate a deeper problem than just one isolated piece of software. Get any data off the machine (to a CD or USB drive) and run Dell's recovery software to get the machine back to it's original state.

That said, Dell are not renowned for doing a good job of installing software and I would be formatting the drive and reinstalling all the software. There is obviously corruption somewhere and a reinstall will fix it.

While not perfect, Vista is a vast improvement on anything Windows that came before. It's easy to use and quite robust.

Do file infector viruses have the ability to do things like install new programs on your computer or put things like picture or video files onto it? Or is this kind of behavior usually limited to Trojans? Thanks for any help.

A:How powerful are file infector viruses?

File infector viruses are the 'classic' form of virus, those to which the term is most commonly and, along with boot sector viruses, most appropriately applied. When an infectious file is executed on a system, the infection routine will seek out other files and insert its code into them, generally at the beginning or end of the existing file (prepending or appending viruses), but also occasionally in the middle of the file (mid-infector) or spreading itself across gaps in the file structure. The entry point of the file is redirected to the start of the virus code to ensure that it is run when the file is executed, and control may or may not be passed on to the original program in turn.File infector viruses often misinfect, either leaving the file completely non-functional or simply failing to run the viral code at all. More sophisticted forms of file infector virus, which try to hide their presence by changing aspects of their code with each infection, are known as polymorphic or metamorphic viruses. What is a file infector? For example, Virut is a dangerous polymorphic file infector that infects .exe/.scr files on the compromised computer, opens a back door and may download more malicious files. Some variants of virut will disable Windows File Protection by injecting code into the "winlogon.exe" process that patches system code in memory while others can even penetrate and infect .exe files within compressed files (.zip, .cab, .rar). More complex variants like Virux and Win32/V... Read more

Like the title above says i need something more powerful than the xfx radei HD 4850 1GB but not to expensive, Sure it still chugs a long fine but lacks newer dx features, I only payed $130 when i bought that card a cpl years ago but I'm looking for something cheaper than can beat it in performance. That and ati just put that card in legacy support Model HD-485X-ZDFC rev.2.1 if you all want to look up the specs has double lifetime warranty one of the reason i bought it, Had it replace by xfx once when capacitors started leaking in an older revision of the card.

A:Need something more powerful than xfx radeon hd 4850 1GB card

well a 6770 is about 100 bucks new and would be a mild improvement in overall performance.
As long as you stay under the 100 dollar mark there's not a ton of options.

It may be possible to find a 5850 somewhere in that price range and it's about twice as fast.
It's also a tad older so the possibility of finding one in your price range gets slightly better.

Sadly 100 bucks just isn't a lot for a video card these days.

I need to set up three user accounts on two computers the accounts on each computer is going to be monitored.
Each user will be assigned access for certain folder or files and certain applications, like internet explorer.
And all usb ports and dvd drive will be blocked. Only the admin will be allow to have full access.

So i need to do something that allow ( managers) to monitor employees activity on the system during working hours.

On one pc is windows xp pro on the other os windows 7 home premium.

Any idea how i can acomplish this task?

I.was thinking of group policy on both computers but on home premium there is not group policy.

Also the users will be using almost all the same programs and files just the with different information.

Thank you in advance.

But for Windows 7 Home Premium you will not have the

I am a bit of a rookie at computers and need a bit of help with upgrading my graphics card. I bought an ADVENT gaming PC factory built and have been playing many different games such as COD and Battlefield etc. I'm not sure what kind of graphics card i can upgrade to without having to change anything else like CPU. I am thinking of upgrading to an AMD Radeon HD 7770, but i'm not sure if this will require any thing else?

I ran the tech support guy software to find my specs and here they are:

Tech Support Guy System Info Utility version 1.0.0.2
OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium, Service Pack 1, 64 bit
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2320 CPU @ 3.00GHz, Intel64 Family 6 Model 42 Stepping 7

Hard Drives: C: Total - 1415359 MB, Free - 1104075 MB;
Motherboard: Foxconn, H61MXL/H61MXL-K

Thanks

I just bought the camera today...the Lifecam Cinema HD and it's not installing properly in my Windows 7 x64 system. I thought it may have been the firmware so I updated it. I also tried the latest software for it...version 3.21.
I tried again and now it says:
Setup cannot install the software because your system does not meet the system requirements. For additional system requirements and compatibility information, see the product packaging or the Microsoft Hardware Web site."
The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)
The extended attributes are inconsistent.
So tech support provide the following solution:
To find a driver for this device, click Update Driver.

Device manager, select LifeCam ( exclamation mark ), select driver, browse my computer for driver software and selectc:\windows\winsxs
Tried it on MSN and works. Keep in mind that the software will not work.
Tech support indicated that it was TOO POWERFUL.?..rather odd but that's what he mentioned. The system processor:
I7920 2.7 GHZ
6144MB RAM
Videocard are two ATI 5870 ( crossfire ) with 3804 MB of memory
System requirements for Life Cam:

Microsoft LifeCam Cinema?

Windows? 7, Windows Vista?, Windows XP with Service Pack 2 (SP2) or higher (Excluding Windows XP 64-bit); minimum: Intel Dual-Core 1.6 GHz or higher, 1 GB of RAM; recommended: Intel Dual-Core 3.0 GHz or higher, 2 GB of RAMHard Drive1.5 GB free

Does that make sense why the software will not install properly?

A:Lifecam Cinema HD not compatible because my computer is too powerful?

Hello Windows10, and welcome to Seven Forums.

LOL, TOO POWERFUL, that's just plain BS. I have the exact same web cam with that driver version on my system (see my system specs below), and it works just fine for me.

You might see if right clicking on the driver installation file, and click on Run as administrator may allow it to install afterwards.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Ok so I have a new computer. It's as follows:

CPU: Core 2 Duo E6600 OC'd to 2.6 GHz.
GPU: ATI x4870 512 ram. GDDR5
PSU: Corsair 620 W (Triple 12V rail at 50 amps combined)
RAM: 2 X 2GB OCZ pc6400 @ 1066.
MB: Asus P5Q- E
HDD: 2 Seagate S-ATA

So my avarage FPS on WoW according to my titan panel is 49. I have all my grahics settings at maximum in game and running at 1280 X 960. I would think I should be getting better than that. I often see drops down to 30 FPS.

A:Solved: WoW runs slow despite powerful computer

Well if you hover your mouse over the latency and framerate thing near your menu button it will tell you what your running.
Your internet above latency of 300 means it will be slow or choppy "Server talk wise"...

Im running with Dualcore processor, 3gb ram, 500g hdd, Geforce 8500gt and I still only get 30-40 at all MINIMUM settings.

But once I get my new 9800 gtx+ and power supply I imagine I will be blessed with better graphics than everrrr.

I dont really know, I think its wow... because we have plenty to run everything at full, its just stubborn.

Hi there! I am looking for powerful and reliable employee monitoring software for work computers. There are about 30 employees in my firm. Frankly speaking, I have made a search on Google, and got lost of results. However, all of them are too expensive for me and over the budget. I need the monitoring software to capture screenshots and thus I am able to see what they are doing at anytime anywhere. Is there anyone out there who is currently using such kind of software? Looking forward to your reply as soon as possible! I am sorry if it is wrong section to post here. I am just a newbie!message edited by laskisa

A:Need powerful and reliable employee monitoring software

First and foremost you need to consider the legal implications of spying on employees. What does your company have in place by way of policy regarding the use of company equipment? Does it align with legislature? Are the employees well aware of company imposed penalties regarding the breach of policy (Have they signed off on their awareness of the rules)? Are the penalties enforceable by local law?Are you allowed to monitor employees to this extent? There are many more scenarios which will probably be presented to you that should be seriously considered. The laws on "monitoring" vary from state to state. Country to country. Be familiar with them. Don't get caught in a legal wrangle that could destroy a small to medium sized business. I think you should focus on restriction. message edited by btk1w1

Researchers have discovered new capabilities in the BlackEnergy crimeware tool that significantly extend its reach. The ability to run on network devices, steal digital certificates, and render infected computers unbootable are just a few of new-found weapons in its arsenal.
BlackEnergy emerged as a tool for launching denial-of-service attacks. It later morphed into crimeware used to funnel banking credentials and most recently was observed as a refitted piece of software for espionage that targeted the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, Ukrainian and Polish government agencies, and a variety of sensitive European industries over the last year. In this last incarnation, BlackEnergy in some cases was installed by exploiting a previously unknown vulnerability in Microsoft Windows systems.

...render infected computers unbootable...There's not much of a financial gain by doing that.
