I have a Dell Latitude D620 that won't bootup. When I press the power button the keyboard status light come on but the uppercase and scrollock blink for a while then shut off. It never tries to boot. Can anyone tell me if they have seen this problem? Is my laptop fixable or worth fixing? Thanks in advance for any help.

A:Dell Latitude D620

This looks like power supply failure. Try it without the battery in case this has a short - it should run without it.
It is fixable but needs a skilled workshop technician.

My Dell Latitude D620 latop has had problems with the touchpad/blue nobby (not sure what they call that). The click buttons don't work either. I used to be able to just restart my laptop, but the problem seems to continue.

I had this problem at one point, and I reformatted with success. But it just started again.

The only settings I have changed were the settings for power (turning off monitor/hdd etc). I have tried installing fresh drivers from dell, old drivers, enabling/disabling the touchpad in the BIOS, and I've given up and now just using a USB wireless mouse.

When I put in the little Dell Resource CD, it doesn't even say that I have the hardware. Also, when I navigate to the Device Manager, there isn't a 'Mice and other pointing devices' tree. Finally, when I startup the laptop, go to Control Panel>Mouse>Hardware, it shows all the information as blank.

Any ideas? I would appreciate it.

A:Dell Latitude D620

Look for HID (Human Interface Device) And it may be listed under Synaptics Touch Pad or something like that.

I've just started having problems of my Dell powering off whenever I hold the bottol right hand by the battery. The sceen goes off, but the loghts remain on, but cannot get the screen to come back on, unless I switch off power on the computer switch by holding it in for a couple of seconds. Please help

A:Dell Latitude D620

Did you check Power Options in Control Panel to verify that pressing the power button actually shuts the computer off and doesn't put it in Stand By or Hibernation?

OK my brother has xp pro on his dell latitude d620 and it runs like crap I have a disc of xp pro from the store but its not the one that came with it can I just use majical jelly bean finder to get the product key and just install windows and worry about drivers after I have windows installed or do I need to put drivers on a cd now and can I use a flash drive

A:dell latitude d620

No. Only a version from Dell will work with his product key. And the one found by Jelly Bean is the wrong one - it is used on all Dell machines of that model and won't reinstall from the Dell disk. You need to use the number on the sticker on the machine. If his recovery partition is still there, restore using that.

I have a Dell D620 with a locked bios password, it wouldnt let me change the boot order or adjust any of the bios settings. So I made the DST floppy, ran via a usb floppy drive, had sucess. It erased the password and servicetag. My question is do I need to put the srevice tag and express service code back in, or should I leave it blank?

A:Dell Latitude D620

I would put them back in. That is in case you have service done on it.

My parents have a Dell Latitude D620 and it's about 5 or 6 years old. We use Windows XP on it. The other day my younger brother downloaded a Lego Software that turned out to be some sort of virus. So I disinstalled the Lego software for control panel hoping it would solve the problem. But my mother has McAfee and she tried to install AVG and it said she had to unistall the McAfee but she needs the password from her administrator first.

Right now the computer will work, but after you've been on the internet for about five minutes or gone to about 3 or 4 different pages it will stop working.
Is there a way we can fix this problem without downloading AVG (and how?) or do we have to wait for the administrator's password to come in?

Thanks!

I'm here to bother you guys about a laptop I've got it's a dell latitude d620. I've been through 2 lcds and 3 ribbons nothing seems to help. the computer boots just fine the problem is with the screen the computer starts but there is a... I dont wanna call it lines but i think its what they are, you can only tell the difference in small areas like the outline of the mouse, or the letters in the menu, overall it looks like it has a bad resolution. but i know that's not it. I've run w7 and multiple linux distros to make sure it isn't it. The bios as updated and I'm sure is not a driver issue it also happens when I'm in the boos menu. I have a dell d630 so every time I've gotten a bad lcd I cross check it with the 630 and so far i've gotten 3 bad lcds from people on ebay. Not to my surprised I've gotten my money back and now the guy even offered to test one and ship me one that works. I received it, but I'm still experiencing the same problem. I've tried 3 different lcd ribbons and nothing what should i do next? I've tried the image in an external monitor and it's just fine. the only problem is with an lcd. I almost feel like the laptop is killing lcds. Thank you for your time

A:Dell latitude d620 killing lcd?

It probably is the GPU showing the death symptoms. Have you tried plugging your laptop through a monitor?

Hi all, great forum you have here...

I have an old(ish) Dell Latitude D620 and I'd like to upgrade the CPU.  The specs are as follows:

Intel Core 2 Duo T5500 (1.66GHz) CPU
2GB DDR2-800 RAM
60GB OCZ Vertex 2 SSD
Windows 7 Professional

Am I correct in thinking I can upgrade to any 667Mhz-FSB processor?  SO what would be the fastest processor I can fit (I'm thinking Core 2 Duo 7400 or 7600)?
Looking at the compatible products for the Intel 845GM chipset (http://ark.intel.com/products/chipsets/22816) they do, but I thought I'd better check here first before buying.  Would the change from 2MB L2 cache to 4MB affect anything?

Many thanks!

Gareth

Either of those will work -- just don't pay an excessive amount for one, since the speed boost will be incremental - not dramatic.

A:Dell Latitude D620 no sound

If you can't find Vista audio drivers on the Dell Support site, you may be out of luck and you will have to revert to XP. Check on the Dell site for tips and info for upgrading to Vista. You should have checked this before going to Vista in the first place

Hi,

I just installed Win7 on my Dell Latitude D620 Laptop. Now some of the functions (scrolling mainly) are not working. I have been unable to find where I can change the settings. In addition, when I click on the screen and, for instance, begin to type, the cursor will randomly move to where the pointer is. As you can imagine, this is very frustrating. Your help is most appreciated.

Thank you,

Sorry guys,
I cant find anyplace else to post this, last Sunday my Latitude D 620 started right clickeing by itself all the time, I replaced the "Palm Rest" which includes the touch pad and buttons and it still is doing it.
I tried a hard drive that was working perfectly that I removed two months ago because I wanted a bigger one and it does the same thing , so it cant be a viris or malware.
Has anyone ever seen this before?

A:Dell Latitude D620: Right click keeps clicking

The palm rest or keyboard data (flat ribbon small cable) is not pushed in all the way
I usually use tweazers (or tiny electronic pliers) and hold and push it in, then lock in the side clamps

Hello, good folks,

I have a Dell Latitude D620 laptop that I notice freezes up when it gets really hot. Tonight I held it in front of my window air conditioner unit to cool it down and suddenly it worked like a charm. So I wonder if anyone's got any suggestions as to what to do about this. I've seen these laptop desks at stores like Target that have fans in them and I was wondering if they are worth looking into. Do they work? Does anybody have one and have a critique of it, good or bad?

I'm not so sure that the CPU fan is working if I have to hold the computer up to the window AC unit to cool it down enough to get it to work. There's got to be a better way to keep this thing running at optimal temperatures so that it doesn't keep freezing up on me.

I'm all ears for suggestions here. Thanks, folks, you all are most sincerely appreciated!

SLBurnell

A:My Dell Latitude D620 laptop gets hot and freezes up

My first guess would be theres a problem with the fan and its going to need replaced.obviously its not supposed to get that hot where you have to put it near an a/c to cool it off.it would be easier and cheaper just to replace the fan then get a desk with a fan.

Hello !
I got some troubles with my Dell Latitude D620. WLAN and LAN never worked on this laptop. It's kinda old, about 4-5 years old. It runs Windows XP Professional and I can't connect to my router. My company IT department gave me this laptop with some kind of special software for connecting to Wi-Fi (some Intel program; not driver). All my drivers are installed.
Windows does not recognize any Wi-Fi network. The program detects networks, but it won't let me introduce the passwords. I wrote the password in Notepad and copy-pasted it but it didn't wanted to connect.
Please help me, tell me which drivers should I install or what should I do.
Sorry for bad english.

My Dell Latitude D620 laptop decided to blue screen on me while I was doing some work in Excel. However when I reboot it makes it to the Black screen showing Windows XP loading and I get the following blue screen:

"UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME"

Technical Information:

***STOP: 0X000000ED (0X86B83E30, 0X0000006, 0X00000000, 0X00000000)

I try booting into safe mode and all other configurations and get this same message.

-----------

I Google the issue and see I probably just need to the chkdsk /r thing. I change the boot order to my CD in setup and put in my Windows XP cd. I click to boot from cd and it begins to enter Windows setup.

Windows setup takes about a minute to go through all of the files it normally loads. However, as soon as it gets to "Setup is Starting Windows" I get a new blue screen that has the following information on it:

Technical Information:

*** STOP: 0X0000007E (0XC0000005, 0XF76130BF, 0XF7A5F208, 0XF7A5EF08)

*** pci.sys - Address F76130BF base at F760C000, DateStamp 3b7d855c

------------

So I can't get into the repair function which means I can't do anything at this point. Anybody have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

A:Dell Latitude D620 Virus Problem.

Hello -

oscer1 tried to help you by showing you what we need before you post.

However, if you do not have administrator access to McAfee, removal efforts will be made very difficult, as many of the steps we do require resident protection to be disabled, which requires admin access.

Do not install more than one AV at a time, though. Also, you can do better, in my view, than AVG. Try avast!, Avira or Microsoft's Security Essentials.

All that said.....

We want all our members to perform the steps outlined in the link I'll give you below, before posting for assistance. There's a sticky at the top of this forum, and a

It works fine with several desktops I tried, but when I try to use it with my Dell Latitude D620 laptop running Windows XP Pro, it does not install properly. A:Dell Latitude D620 BIOS Password

Short answer: You need the original password.
That unit has been refurbished by a Dell-authorized shop (as all with the 595B are) so the restore discs cannot be used.
All of the suggestions your tried, are known not to work in that model... The D600 and D620 are the most difficult of all Dells to fix. You will likely need to replace the motherboard with one known to work. Most of the boards on eBay have the same problems you have.

I have a Dell Latitude D620 equipped with a nvidia Quadro NVS110m graphic card. This laptop worked flawlessly with Windows 7 on it. On Dell support web site the only 64bit driver for this card was for Vista but never had any problem with Windows 7. However these drivers makes Windows 8 very unstable.

On nvidia web site they do not propose any driver for windows 8 and the nvs110m (I checked and contacted the useless customer service). Does anyone knows where I could find a driver for my Dell with nvidia 110m graphic card? Thanks a lot.

I cannot run any diagnostics at this time.

I replaced CMOS coin battery. Perhaps damaging contacts to connector while prying them off the old battery. I flattened them out and secured with electrical tape, securely attaching the jumper style connector to the motherboard. I added 4GB RAM (kingston ddr2) per spec. I made sure the memory was securely snugged in the slot and clips working.

When I power on (with or without battery) all I see ar flashing CAPS LOCK and LOCK indicatgors. the NUM LOCK indicator is solid for about d30-40 seconds then POWERS OFF.

I get no screen and the computer does not boot.
It has Win7 Pro installed.
I am not sure how to proceed. Any help appreciated.

Hi Everyone. I have my new Dell Latitude D620 that i purchased and have recently wiped the hard drive. However, i have now realized that my desktop OS disc is not working to install windows onto my laptop. Are there any other ways to install windows without purchasing 200-300$ software? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

A:Missing Windows OS disc for Dell Latitude D620

If it is a new machine, then you can get a replacement from dell. Just let them know the one you have will not complete the install. If it was purchased from a 3rd party and is used, Find out if it is still covered under warranty. If it is, ask that person to call dell and do a change of ownership. Once there system shows you as owner (or you get the info used when they purchased and/or registered the computer, if you bought from a friend) you should be able to get help from Dell.

Good Luck. Let me know how it turns out.

Perhaps either a relic but the system is working well.
Please, if anyone has any suggestions are welcome.

A:the system cannot communicate with the battery Dell Latitude D620

You should try some steps.

1) Update the bios.

2) Do a system reset by removing the battery and AC adapter, no power to the unit, hold down the power button for 30 seconds.

3) Then replace the battery and AC to the unit.

4) Now turn on and observe whether you get a charging battery. Check in control panel under power and see what the battery is doing.

My desktop was just infected pretty bad, Some pro cleaner program. I thought I had it all cleaned and was just having a small issue with redirects. I tried to post here on the machine but when I tried to log in here it redirected me. Also I was going to run a online scan with eset/node32 but it redirects to some page telling me my system is infected and also a page comes up about java being outdated. Maybe someone can suggest some programs I can run. To protect my privacy I unhooked the cat 5 cable from the back so I will have to move programs via flash USB drive. The last 2 scans I did with maleware bytes came clean. I ran a quick scan and full scan. I have also ran adw cleaner and rkill they have done about all they can do. For a start, download and burn to dvd a Kaspersky Rescue disk ISO. Boot with the dvd. It will load itself into RAM only; then go on-line and update itself. After-which it will scan your hard drive fully and deal with more or less "anything" it finds. It's built around a Linux variant; and will not install itself to the hard drive .The utility is free here:http://www.kaspersky.com/virus-scannerand some support info here:http://support.kaspersky.co.uk/viru...Start with that and post back with the results. There are other utilities (all free and regularly recommended here) to run after you have run the Kaspersky disk. It's likely that JohnW will drop across here at some stage. He is one of several here very up on dealing with assorted pests... Wise to pay heed to his thoughts and those of one or two others too. All are well versed in dealing with these pests...

Woke up the computer and all I got was a black screen and a white arrow (mouse cursor). Safe Mode all Version Give the Same. Can only use the computer from bootable media and the repair option under F8. Not sure what programs I need to download / run. Typing this on a different computer. Ran Superantivirus from a Hirens Boot USB and it found things on drive "X" ( likely false positives) and the cookies. Last working did not change anything. Awaiting your answer.

I have a Dell Latitude D620 (1490 WLAN mini-card) running Windows XP SP2 that refuses to connect to my Westell (Verizon DSL/Wireless router combo) router.

Some details:
1. My network is secured by WEP 128bit and both SSID hide and MAC address filtering is turned ON. HOWEVER, when I did turn off all filtering and WEP, the Dell found the network and listed it in Wireless connections but still did not connect when I tried connecting to the unsecured network. (The HP connects in the unsecured case as well).
2. I have another HP Pavilion laptop that I am able to connect to this network. I compared all wireless network settings and couldn't find any differences between them (other than the network cards are different between the two laptops).
3. I did uninstall and reinstall the 1490 from device manager - no effect.
4. I did update the driver for the 1490 router - no effect.
5. I tried turning Windows firewall off - no effect.
6. I do know that the wireless card on the Dell works since it connects to my network at work.
Any help will be much appreciated.

Thanks

There is a slot for a mobile sim card under the battery. When I put my Vodafone UMTS Simcard in, nothing happenes.

It would be cool if I wouldn´t need a USB modem Stick like most others need.

Please help !

How can I activate it ? What drivers do I need for windows 7 32bit ?

Hello again. I used Darik's Boot and Nuke to wipe the hard drive of my Dell Latitude D620 laptop, and am now using the official Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition disc that originally came with the laptop, to reinstall everything. It goes through a hardware configuration check, then into Windows Setup. Setup appears to load all files correctly, then shows "starting Windows". At this point a blue screen appears saying "a problem has been detected and window has been shut own to prevent damage to your computer. Someone I work with has a Dell Latitude D620 and the screen blanks while booting in normal mode when in the dock. Laptop boots normally when not docked.

When I try and boot (in normal mode) when docked, I see the black "XP Pro" screen loading (but don't see where I can press F2 to get into setup or F12 for boot menu) and then the screen goes blank.

I thought it may be a screen resolution issue and I backed off the resolution from 1440X900 to 1280X800 but still no luck. Refresh rate is 60hz I do get video when I boot into Safe mode, but not normal mode. Any ideas here?

Power Cycle everything . . Turn off the Modem, router and all pc's . . turn on the Modem and wait a few minutes for the lights to stabilize . . then turn on the router, then one pc at a time. See if you connect to the internet.

Then:

Then: check your browser's settings, remove any proxy settings if found here's how.

Then:

with the pc connected to the router, Click on Start . . Run . . type CMD

At the > prompt type type the following command: IPCONFIG /ALL and press enter.

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Come back here and Paste the results in a message.

I installed Windows 7 Beta on a Dell Latitude D620. Laptop has built in UPEK
biometric fingerprint reader.  Windows 7 did not automatically install a
driver.  I first installed the driver from Dell.com for Vista 32bit.
Device manager shows driver installed and hardware running, but the
fingerprint reader does not show up in the Biometric Devices screen
from within the Control Panel.  Next, I went to UPEK's website, and
downloaded a driver dated 12/2008.  Same scenario, device manager is
good, but no device showing up in Biometric Devices in Control Panel.  I
removed driver and rebooted machine before and after each attempt.
Anyone have any ideas?  Or are the existing drivers just simply not
supported currently by Windows 7 Beta fully?  Thanks in advance! - Brian

A:Problem getting UPEK fingerprint reader in Dell Latitude D620 to show in Biometric Devices screen

I checked that with UPEK, and my reader according to the Windows 7 Alert Center, "The model name of your Fingerprint Reader is TCD

A:Latitude D620 and Windows 10

I would bet it's the 64bit version that is the problem...I have nine computers and eight of the nine I've successfully upgraded to Windows 10 32-bit (Some Home and some Pro)...I stayed in the 32 bit world and am happy I did...I have no reason to go more than 32bit as 4gb RAM (3.2 to 3.5 depending on the system) is just fine for what I do...I'm not a gamer so I don't need a super uber video card (All my video cards are 512MB ram)...And most applications are still 32bit only. Tests have been done on the same computers comparing 32bit and 64bit and only a few applications (Photo/Video editing, etc.) are significantly faster with 64bit. For most 32 bit is fine but the industry has been pushing 64bit heavy for the last few years (for really no good reason for most users).
I had actually upgraded the D620 about two weeks ago and had tried  a different video driver then but this morning it popped in my head I had tried the wrong video driver (My card in my D620 is an NVidia card)...
When I downloaded the Vista 32bit Nvidia driver today it immediately installed. Now I have a nice resolution again...EVERYTHING in my D620 is working with no exclamation marks in device manager.
My D620 is on 24/7 365 days a year as it runs my weather station software uploading to the Internet round the clock. I bought it almost 4 years ago used for about $120...Pretty good dealio...

Sorry, but we do not assist with password issues.
In addition, the Dell Latitude D620 password failure is known as impossible to correct. Dell cannot do it. The famous password house in Ontario, Canado cannot do it. There are three reports of owners getting theirs fixed online, but they are not verified, and I doubt that those reports are true.

Sorry, but I think you have a permanently dead Dell Latitude D620...

Hello-

Recently I was given an older laptop, it's about a year old. It's a Dell latitude d620, running an nVidia Quadro 110m NVS. Today, I attempted to update the video drivers and received the following error:

"nVidia setup could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware. Setup will now exit."

While perusing for an answer, Laptopvideo2go.com suggested I needed to install what's called a modded .inf file in order for the installation to complete. Does anyone know how to do this? I looked all over for an answer, or better yet the actual .inf file that I need to replace, and came up empty handed. Anyone know where I can find an .inf file for the most recent video drivers? I use Vista 32 bit, by the way.

Thanks-

Hi, my D620 just started having this problem today.

My screen gets all green and static, I think where the static appears depends on the color of things on the screen
I already tried uninstally and reinstalling the video drivers

The only thing that I have done different recently is that yesterday, I started using an Antec notebook cooler. I haven't used any coolers before and it was fine up until today.

My wife informed me that there has never been sound from her notebook speaker but headphones work fine.  Is this possibly problem with the audio driver or maybe a headphone jack problem?  Any suggestions would be appreciated.Latitude D620Default device: SigmaTel AudioSigma Tel version 5.10.0.4823Thanks

A:No sound from Latitude D620 notebook speaker but headphones work fine.

It could be either. On the software side of things, you could reinstall the audio driver or use PC Restore to return her computer to the exact configuration it was in when she received it. Everything that was working then would work again except any hardware problems that have developed since it was shipped (or any it had when shipped for that matter).Or it could be the headphone jack. The Dell laptops with a Sigmatel 92xx audio chip utilize Universal Jacks technology, which is somewhat complicated. In addition to the usual mechanical parts, the jack also uses current & impedance-sensing techniques to trigger software configuration and switching (to send the audio signal to the speakers). So there are three areas of potential failure: mechanical, electronic, and software. Sometimes, a little very gentle wiggle of a plug in the jack will get it to resume normal functioning, at least temporarily. Normally I'd say to run the audio test part of Dell Diagnostics to confirm that there is a hardware problem, but we have seen that these Universal Jacks can cause a false result in Diagnostics. That is because Diagnostics operates in DOS, outside of Windows, so a Windows software misconfiguration is irrelevant to the test even though in this case it is caused by hardware. So the audio test can pass in Diagnostics, correctly signaling that software configuration is the immediate cause of the problem, but missing that a hardware problem, the bad jack, is the root cause. In these inst... Read more

i got this info here GPU Temperature 103C on Latitude E6420 - General Hardware - Laptop - Dell Community

A:Dell latitude e6430 and dell latitude e6420

Joseph mate best leave as is after all it was made to function as it came. Now for the compound and copper shim personally I would not bother with the copper shim I can see no good reason for it the dual pipe again if it was made to work with one pipe then leave alone.

It is better if you renew the compound using a decent cleaner and compound and I can recommend these for that job

Arctic Silver Incorporated - ArctiClean for thorough cleaning and preparation and Arctic Silver Incorporated - Arctic Silver 5 for the compound.

Now it depends on who you listen to but I always use these products and after the old compound is thoroughly cleaned off and the surfaces prepped I spread the compound very thinly and across the both entire surface of the CPU and the heatsink with my finger inside a vinyl or latex glove and then place a rice grain sized piece of compound on the CPU and replace the heatsink. If you touch the surfaces after clean and prep then redo it.

While you are in there do make sure the fan and the radiator are really spotless and I sometimes relube the fan bearings to make sure the fan is running at full tilt when needed.

sometimes it works near enough perfect- i recently uninstalled the alps drivers & seems to work slightly better without drivers but only slightly, i googled & found lots of ppl with similar problems but no real solutions- some people say its some windows updates causing it some people say cut the cable/connection that goes from middle pointer. I read some places that on older dells there was some metal touching trackpad components causing this problem- I dont know whether to take this laptop apart, i dont want to end up causing any further problems. thanks for any help

Remove the keyboard. Clean the keyboard, mouse pad, and visible components with a can of Dust Off or other treated canned air.
Then go to the Dell site, and download the synaptics software, Chipset, and other files.. Disable or remove the old version in the Device Manager, and install the drivers once more.

I need to know how to find out if a bluetooth adapter is installed on a d620.
The bios has a place to Disable or activate it. So im thinking it has the moduale installed. Any advice would help.

A:Dell D620 Bluetooth

Dell says that Bluetooth is an option on this model. If the option in the bios to enable or disable Bluetooth is hi-lighted, we can assume that the system has a Bluetooth adapter installed

A:Dell d620 Bios password

No, your problem is not fixable without sending the computer to Dell.
This has been well established on this forum. You will not find the answer here... because there is no answer. The D620 appears to have a problem that only a EEPROM programmer with the proper programming tools, and software, and code books, can fix.

Hi Everyone,

Ok, I did a little research and this is as far as I have got:

Having bought an OCZ Vertex 2 120GB SSD and tried cloning my WinXP install to the new drive, having had issues with Hibernate and Sleep and reading that my SSD might degrade over time as WinXP wasnt designed with SSD's in mind I bought and installed Windows 7 Home Premium (32bit) on my Dell Latitude D620.

After that I wanted to make sure that all the latest features were working. I had heard about TRIM and so went about seeing if it was doing its thing.

Most sites described checking to see if Scheduled Defragmenting was turned off and if when a USB pen is plugged in the Readyboost option appears. It turns out that Defrag Scheduling was on AND Readyboost is an option.

I read I should make sure that AHCI was enabled in my BIOS. No such option in my BIOS.
Strange I thought, so I checked to make sure I had the latest BIOS available. I do, A10.

I read furthur that only the Dx30 models had these options in the BIOS.
The Dell D620 chipset is apparently limited to Sata150 or something...?

So where does this leave me? I gather that I may not be able to get TRIM support, so is my SSD going to start slowing down? Is there anything I can do to either work around this, or make sure that the speed I have now will remain a constant?

Many thanks for your time...

A:TRIM not available on Dell D620. Where does this leave me?

This post on the DELL Support Forum is dealing with your very question and should answer you inquiry.

There are no master passwords.. if someone has put a password on the bios which it sounds like there is, the only way to get rid of it is to flash the bios chip, and i wouldn't do it yourself unless you know what your doing, so if you don't get someone who does.

A:Dell d620 help cmos and harddrive

if the gray/white screen is asking for harddisk password only then you can get the notebook to work with a new harddisk drive.
if it asks for the system or admin password you can go here:
http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic96268.html
and wait for password or contact dell (make sure you are the legal owner or have the ownership tranfered to you).
if the BIOS setup configuration (which allows you to change the settings in the bios) is disable post back. I can help you with that.

good luck!

After having had the motherboard replaced on the D620 my fatherinlaw can now, no longer connect to his wireless.

All settings seem to be different from the details he has noted from the initial installation of the system.

I cannot check/change settings due to an invalid password.

Help!

A:Dell D620 new motherboard now no wireless

So the first thing you will need to do is remember the password... or remove it

A:Help with Bios pass for dell d620

Good luck. I do not know of any Dell more difficult to fix than a Dell Inspiron d620. It is known as unrepairable on this forum, when an unknown password is the issue. Tell us exactly what you men by "...with a bios pass..."? Did they give you an incorrect password?
The EEPROM that holds the password is not replaceable due to soldering issues, and the programming of it is different than other Dells so that an experienced EEPROM programmer cannot deal with it either. The shorting techniques used to delete other Dell passwords do not work with the D620.

Hi, I have a dell latitude d620. My daughter had it a college and the wireless was working fine. She came home this weekend and the wireless and direct connect do not work. When I do an ipconfig /all nothing happens, the radio or the network indicator do not appear in the task bar, however, when I look at the device hardware, the wireless card shows as enable and no issues. Also, the wireless switch on the left side is in the on position but the light does not come on. Any ideas?

thanks

Like many here, I have a password issue, but it's not with the bios. The organization my wife works for bartered for her to keep her laptop when she resigned in exchange for some ongoing side-work. Unfortunately the tech at the outfit is upset 'cuz he wanted that laptop for himself and has no intention of giving her administrator priviledge so we can disjoin it from the domain and install our home printers. (He answers to a different boss than the one who had the authority to give my wife ownership to the laptop, long story. If we fight it he'll find a way to "help" her by swapping the D620 for some relic from the junk pile). The machine works fine, but we can't install printers or do various other things due to lack of user admin priviledges for her user account.

I can hit F12 to boot from CD-rom, but can't do a new install from cd because i get a pci.sys bluesceen which I'm assuming is happening because of the hdd having password protection on it. Question is, if I buy my wife a new sata drive (the D620 is sata) will it work fine without further problems installing windows?

I've already checked dell.com to be sure I can download all the required drivers, that all seems ok.

Thanks, Bob

A:Dell D620 drive swap

Sure it will work. There is no reason why it wouldn't. As long as you have a fresh, formatted hard drive, there shouldn't be any problems.

My dog knocked my D620 on the floor. The pcmcia connector & housing are damaged. Does the D610 use the same parts? There seem to be plenty of 610 slots available.

A:Dell D620 pcmcia slot damaged

I thing that question will be better suited for DELL tech support. However, be careful in how you word the question, because the might want to sell you their service or product. Make it look as only you are wondering or something.
