WIFI MINI PCI Upgrade

Q: WIFI MINI PCI Upgrade

Gentlemen, i owns Dell Latitude D600 which it runs off on Intel PRO/Wireless 2100A MiniPCI 3A...

I was wondering if i WAS able to replace it with stronger WiFi MiniPCI card ?

I dont like the idea using the PCMICA cards.

can i just order one and flip out and put the new one in?

Old Spec:
802.11B?G

New SPEC:
802.11A/B/G
or
802.11A/B/G/N

Was there a possible if i can get it working properly ?

I was trying to upgrade it to vista, but 2100A is not supported.

A: WIFI MINI PCI Upgrade

bushwhacker, it is possible to upgrade with newer wifi mpci cards. I have one D600 as well and I tried many different cards. they all work as long as you find a driver. at the moment I run it with a Dell 1470 Dual Band card which worked ok with vista when I played around a bit with it.
hope this helps?

regards, mscrx

I have a 600 g1 mini running Win10.  I put in a combo wifi blue tooth module into the m.2 slot that is under the hard drive.  Windows recognizes the module abs shows that both wifi and Bluetooth are working.  When I try to connect to any device or a wireless router I get nothing,  I'm assuming that there is no signal being broadcast or detected because I have no antenna connection.  The parts list indicates that an antenna exists.  Where is it?  Thanks in advance.

Hello all!

My friend got a HP Mini 210 from Verizon, I believe a few years ago. It has a sim slot, but there isn't a sim card in it. I don't know if she took it out, or if she never needed one.

It is an HP Mini 210 running Windows 7 Starter.

Apparently she isn't using Verizon anymore, as she recently bought a T-Mobile hot spot instead. She can't get it to connect to the T-Mobile hot spot wifi, and I brought it home, and can't get it to connect to my home wifi either. Well actually it says "Connected" but "No Internet Access." Internet is fine and working well, so that is not the problem.

The Verizon connection is under Dial up and VPN(I think it is broadband), do I need to remove this connection to get the wifi to connect properly? It is not connected to the Verizon connection though. Is it possible that this laptop is "locked" to Verizon the way cell phones are?

The Troubleshooter says "Windows can't communicate with the device or resource. (primary DNS server)

This isn't my computer, so I am hesitant to do anything that I am not sure about. Any help would be awesome!

Thanks!

A:HP Mini from Verizon won't connect to wifi

They probably set a Proxy in the unit, either in Internet Explorer, or in the Registry.  Yes, delete the Verizon connection in Internet Options, in the Connections tab.  Check for a proxy in that same tab.

um, does the ipaq rx5500 not have integrated wireless lan? i wasn't able to find the specs on the rx5500, but the normal 5500 does have integrated wireless as far as i can tell.

as for connecting a wireless dongle to a pda in general, no that will not work, because no wireless usb dongle manufacturer makes drivers for the windows mobile operating system.

your best bet is probably an SD card wireless lan adapter.

Please find attached the screenshots that depicts my current setup of the driver installation

To illustrate what you see on the image... the case is as follows:
- I have installed the driver from the vendor provided on my XP box that includes utility software
- You can see the driver location on the top part of the image
- When I plug in the Mini USB WiFi Driver, it doesn't recognize the driver and on the Device Listing -> Other Devices -> 802.11n WLAN Adapter is shown with an exclamation mark

I tried right clicking and updating the driver giving the driver location... it fails

I also tried right clicking the driver and installing it. Yet no luck

I really appreciate some help to resolve this ...

I have an Acer 11.6" Aspire One AO751H netbook. I want to upgrade the wireless-G to N. This model takes the half size mini pci-e cards. I just recently purchased the Intel Ultimate N WiFi Link 5300 card. Installed it yesterday, booted the computer, and so far so good. It recognized the card right away and the driver installation was successful. The wifi activity light works, the card is recognized, but it is unable to detect any networks. It just flashes that little balloon at the bottom saying "wireless networks unavailable". Try to refresh the network list, and i still get nothing. I tried turning the card off, then on again, but nothing. I checked on the driver in Device Manager, and it says it is functioning properly.

I have the most up-to-date BIOS and I am running 32-bit XP Pro (downgraded from the factory installed VISTA). I was wondering if maybe there was an issue with the antennas? The 5300 card has 3 antenna inputs, but the laptop only has two antennas. I was told on numerous forums that it would still function fine with only two antennas, however. I obtained the most up-to-date driver for the card right from intel's website and it installed without any issues at all. Does anyone have any input on to why this card seems to have installed fine, but cannot detect wireless networks? Should I try an older driver? I know many people have upgraded the wifi in this Aspire Ones, so I can't see it simply being incompatible.

I upgraded my friends HP laptop to Windows 10. The issue now is I can't enable Wifi. The card is recognized correctly in Device manager and no issues is found with it. It looks like it is fine. However in the Network Settings WLAN is set to "Off" and when I try to turn it on it always jumps right back to off. eg. I can't enable it.

HP is now help as they clearly state any laptop bought prior to specific date in 2013 will not get any driver updates from their side for windows 10. (Guys, never buy HP again please...). And updating through device manager only tells me it's the newest driver available.

The Wifi card i Broadcom 4313GN card. I searched for win 10 drivers but did not find anything. They only offer linux drivers on their homepage...

So can anyone either provide a solution to the issue or link to a win 1' driver for this wifi card?

A:Dreaded Win10 WiFi Issue: Can't enable WiFi after Upgrade

I had a similar issue were I was stuck in Aeroplane mode on a cleanly installed W10. Turned out I had to uninstall it from the HID's in Device manager. It's worth checking that he's not stuck in it too. Search for drivers in Windows 7, from the HP website and you'll most likely resolve the issue.

guys this one has me stumped cold. Dell Inspiron laptop, very clean software wise, had original mini-card [internal] which could not detect any wifi networks - known good wifi AP's. All the windows checked showed the device working properly but I finally replaced it with one of the better "n" cards out there. Same thing all over again. Put it right next to a working AP, cannot detect a thing. Antennae is hooked up properly.

If I plug a good WIFI stick into USB, it works immediately, no drama.

I have no idea what is preventing this from detecting anything. What should I be looking for?

A:WLAN Mini-card Good, but cannot detect WIFI ??

Hi zapp22,

It appears that the 'Wireless Card' is currently 'Disabled'; please check its status in 'BIOS' and 'enable' it if needed. To access 'BIOS' you may follow the steps listed below:
- Power off the laptop > Power it back on and at 'Dell splash screen', repeatedly tap 'F 2 key' (BIOS screen should appear) > Usually 'Dell Inspiron' laptops have a 'category' named 'Advanced' > Ensure that WLAN is enabled > 'Save Settings' and 'Exit'
(Note: BIOS setup may vary based on different laptop models)

If the wireless card still does not detect any networks in 'Windows', try tapping <Function><F2> or only <F2> if the previous key combination does not work. This is the 'radio control' for the 'Wireless Card' installed in the system.

Hope this helps. Do reply with the finding; would be glad to assist.

I'm trying to set up wifi on an HP mini 210 with windows 7 starter installed. I'm sharing internet via an iMac with airport (connected via ethernet.) My iMac settings appear to be correct (I can connect my iPod Touch and Kindle no problem.)
When I try to connect the HP my network name appears in the list of available wifi sources and lists all the details (WEP, 802.11n, SSID) but when I click 'connect' it says 'Windows was unable to connect' without requesting a password (and troubleshooting finds no problems.)

I've tried different settings (changing my network name, password, and from 40-bit {5 digit password} to 128-bit {13 digit password}) with no success. I've tried manually adding the network to the HP through the Network and sharing centre with no luck either.

Any suggestions?

Welcome to Seven Forums,

Instead of using WEP which can be hacked easily, I would try changing your network security to WPA2.
Here's How: What AirPort security settings should I choose? | Mac Support Central

Now, see if you can connect your HP Mini, then configure the rest of your wireless devices as well to connect to a higher wireless security.

Hi

My motherboard got a port called Mini PCIE. It looks similar to the standard PCIE port but is much smaller (I guess that's why it's called mini ) AND it appears to be tilted 90 degrees to the right if I'm right. So I would have to place the card vertically. Space seems to be limited. Of course I could be wrong on that.

Board type is MSI AM1i

Photo is below. The port in question is just next to the two SATA data ports. (actually on the left, in the second pictures)
I'd like to install a Wifi card there. Please tell me. How and where? Where am I supposed to place the antennas? Do you know any good cards? I didn't buy the card yet, only the motherboard

Thanks a lot

^^ The mini PCIE port is just above (again, next to the white-blue capacitors and left to the sata ports), and lies vertically in the picture with a number tag written to it

i'm upgrading the messy computer network at our clinic. here is a brief setup:
all Windows 7 32-bit ultimate and 2010 MAC mini as file sharing server
all computers have WIFI-n cards capability
FRONTDESK:
2 computers running critical scheduling SW.

at the moment they are connecting via WIFI, however, i would like to be able the setup X-cable link between them and utilize the network traffic for the scheduling application (shared database with R/W access by both computers)

The WIFI should be for occasional internet use and grabbing documents from the MAC server, most of the traffic will be local however.

Can i somehow configure the ethernet between these 2 desktops, 1Gbit speed and force the application to use that rather then the slower WIFI ?
THERAPISTS STATIONS:
4 laptops with WIFI

connecting to shared folders according to each therapist, storing all important documents remotely with R/W access.
Mostly MS WORD documents and some internet use.

* i still need to figure out how to configure MAC mine server with properly shared folders with correct permission as some have R/W access, some only R access
The main Q is Ethernet priority traffic over WIFI, if that's possible ?

My wife has a Mini 110. When we bought it we were about to go to Indonesia, I was going to be the sole tech support, I knew my way around XP so we got it with XP instead of Win 7 Starter. Now I'd like to update the OS to Win 7 Home Premium. I have downloaded the HP drivers, including a BIOS update, but do not know in what order I install everything. I have an ISO which I will use to make a boot USB drive (I hope). So the first question is how do I change the boot order in the BIOS? Assuming that I get as far as the Setup file do I first install Win 7, then run all the upgrade .exe files? At what stage should I update the BIOS? First? Last? Does it matter? Any light on the matter much appreciated. David

A:How to upgrade HP Mini 110 from XP to Win 7.

Hi David, Try these steps. Step 1: Turn on HP Mini 110 and keep tapping F10 key to go to BIOS. Step 2: Access BOOT menu using the arrow keys. Step 3: In BOOT MENU, you will find BOOT ORDER. Step 4: Select it and hit enter. Step 5: You will see a list of things there, highlight USB Drive and keep tapping the F6 key till it reaches the top of the list. Step 6: Once it is on top of the list, you can use the ISO file which is on your USB Drive. Step 7: Press F10 to save and exit, once it is done you can go ahead and install the Operating System. After installing the Operating System you can install the BIOS update and then install the drivers at the end. Hope this works for you. Regards,Sumanth Nag M

A:Dell Optiplex 745 Mini Tower Upgrade

Hi Asfand_Munib,
Before installing a new processor, please update the BIOS to latest version from Here.
Note : Please save and close all running programs and documents and disconnect all external peripherals (printer, flash drives, external hard drives, etc) and connect the computer to a surge protector before updating the bios.
If all the lights are green and you are not receiving any beep codes from the system then it means that the processor has been installed correctly. Please check if the keyboard lights (Capslock, Numlock, etc) respond when you press the corresponding keys. Please verify the connections on rear of the system and check if they are connected firmly. Also, check if you are able to hear any windows jingle sounds after some time when you power on the system. Please share the exact model of Optiplex 745 you are using as it comes in 4 form factors viz Ultra Small Form Factor (USFF), Desktop (DT), Small Form Factor (SFF), and Mini-Tower (MT). A picture is attached below.

Please reply with the information. Will take it further from there.

Hello, my Optiplex 7040 just arrived this week.  I bought a Kingston 120mb SATA ssd in a 2280 stick, so I'm trying to see if I can use this for my main boot drive (Windows 10) and then move the 500gb 3.5 Sata drive over to a storage drive. When I install the 120gb 2280 stick into the M.2 slot, and load the bios...   *It shows up under General / System Information / PCI information / Slot5_M.2 & also under Device Information / SATA-4   *When I look under System Configuration / Drives, it also shows up under SATA-4 here as well.  However, it's showing up as a 0gb Drive under 'type'!
So when I boot from a USB drive to try and reinstall Windows on this M.2 stick, it's not showing up at all.
When I connect the M2 SATA drive and load Windows on the existing 3.5 SATA drive that came with the 7040, the M2 2280 stick shows up in 'device manager' under the hard drives.  The serial # there corresponds to a Toshiba-form hdd; unfortunately, I can't do anything with it in Windows 10.
SATA operation is set to AHCI, and I am booting into legacy with the USB.Any thoughts?  I'm wondering if maybe I have a dead memory stick.  There's no real way I can test it on another computer to see what happens.

A:Optiplex 7040 Mini Tower M.2 slot upgrade....

For Windows 10 you should have a UEFI Boot with SecureBoot Enabled. The USB should be made using the GPT partition scheme for UEFI BIOS. I hope you mean 120 GB and not 120 MB....

Hi.

I upgraded my Click Mini to Windows 10 as soon as I got it yesterday.

All appeared well until I restarted it and it would not boot, reporting there was a drive problem.

Eventually, after using the keylogger to unlock the drive, I reset the machine (asking it to keep my files and it has reinstalled Windows 10 but I seem to have lost the Toshiba programs that were on there.

They don't appear in the program list.

Is there a way of getting them back without reverting the unit back to Windows 8.1 in Recovery and then putting Win 10 back on.
Took hours.

Thanks for any help.
Doug

If you have ticked the option “Keep my Files” the Windows 10 would still remove apps and settings but it keeps your personal files like pictures, mp3, movies, docs, etc.

I have a Dell Vostro 230 Mini Tower, and it currently has the Intel Pentium E6500 processor. I would like to upgrade to something better, because my current processor does not meet the minimum requirements of some games I would like to play. I was wondering which processors I could upgrade to? I know that the new processor has to fit the socket on the motherboard, but I don't know how to find out what socket my current motherboard has, or even what motherboard it is.
I would also like to know, if I don't upgrade the processor, but instead get a new motherboard, can I get any motherboard, and plug it in, and will it come with a new processor, or will it have to fit my current processor? Does upgrading the motherboard make much difference to the CPU speeds if I don't actually upgrade the processor?
I am running Windows & SP3, DirectX 11, with 4GB RAM, and i also have an ATI Radeon 5670 HD Graphics Card, and a 300W power supply.
Would I need to get a new power supply if I upgraded the motherboard or processor?

Due to hideous misfortune I had to do a clean install of my personal copy of Windows Vista and remove the stock Windows XP from my netbook.

Many drivers were added my Microsoft during Vista installation but I have no adapter drivers for either wireless or ethernet controllers. Under device manager I have no category for Network Adapters but instead those two controllers are listed under "Other Devices".

Under HP downloads I found the driver for Qualcomm Mobile Broadband Drivers - Gobi1000 when I went through the process of stating my product ID and OS (Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit). I downloaded it onto my pc, saved it to the flash drive I had to use earlier as a bootable drive to install Vista (knew the lack of native cd/dvd drive would eventually haunt me) and then moved the flash drive to the netbook to run install.

After running the setup a blank 'ms-dos' window popped up, stayed blank and then disappeared. There was no confirmation of success of failure in regards to installation of the driver. But under Device Manager they are still listed under other devices and I am unable to do anything with them.

I downloaded, transported and ran the setups for HP help and support as well as the Wireless Assistant. Both run fine on the Mini. The wireless assistant simply states that Windows has no controllers assigned to find connections to maintain.

I was curious as to whether or not there was something I was missing, the driver was the inco... Read more

I spent a lot of money on a new gaming pc and it has been a complete nightmare from the start. I have wireless network at home so I had to het a usb wifi adapter, the Netgear N300 WiFi USB Mini Adapter.

Its setup cannot complete because it is stuck eternally at "detecting adapter"

I sought online but it's only people reporting the problem and NOBODY giving a solution. pleas pleeeaaaase somebody help.

A:Netgear N300 WiFi USB Mini Adapter stuck detecting adapter

Power down PC...while it off remove USB wifi adapter....power on PC. When PC has finished booting up, search in the uninstall programs list for any software related Netgear and uninstall it. Reboot and start the process again.

According to the system requirements for that device, it does not support windows 10, which may be you issue.

Hey, I know there are already a few topics with the same subject, however none have the exact same situation as mine as most are US based. I too have a powerful Lenovo Y510P SLI with a Intel Centrino N2230 wifi card. I am buying a new router for my student room and since I want to buy things that can last for a few years, opted for a wifi AC router (probably an Asus one). But, this laptop won't support it... I looked in the technical maintaince manual to find which wifi cards are supported for the Y510P, there is one Wifi AC card for the Y410P, but according to various posts will also work in the Y510P as they share the same BIOS whitelist. I don't want to flash the BIOS with a custom modded one which removes the whitelist. (I flashed a desktop Asus motherboard to run OSX, went great, runs well, but I can't experiment with this laptop, need it for university.). So I Googled and Ebayed the partnumer and this one came up: Ebay Link, which says "Only for Lenovo/IBM laptops such as Y510P" should be fine right? Only thing is it is 40 USD, Dutch customs will charge 21% on top of it so that makes 48 USD, and the Dutch postal office will charge anywhere between 15-20 USD for paperwork for importing goods. So that makes an total of 68 USD... so that almost doubles the cost of the upgrade...  I used the FRU number for this card: WLAN, WiFi AC+BT4.0, Ltn BCM4352+20702 2x2AC+BT4.0 HMC which is 20200381, and put in the search engine in the "part number" ... A:Wifi problems after 8.1 upgrade.

Same here. Ever since I upgraded I've been having major issues. I'm kicked off or have limited connectivity every few seconds to every few hours (max).

I've been troubleshooting the connection and sometimes it works/sometimes doesn't. It often tells me my default gateway is not available. Other times it resets my wifi.
Sometimes turning airplane mode on and off works.

I've tried almost all of the quick fixes posted in various forums: changing power settings, changing adapter settings, disabling ethernet and bluetooth, etc. csf scan showed nothing. Anyone come up with a fix?? (this includes YOU microsoft!! since I'm pretty sure it was your update) Speaking of which, I'm going to try to undo the update to 8.1 next. Just not sure if it's a good idea since it took hours for it to install.

I have the Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless-N 2200 as well which seems to have issues of its own with windows 8.

My dv7-4180us has a Broadcom bgn mini PCI wifi card and only gets 72 Mbps on my home network. I'm running agn+ac on my network. I understand that the wifi options are limited by the whitelist in the BIOS. I will probably wind up going with a USB adapter, but I would prefer an internal. I have a Dell E6500 with Intel Centrino 5100 card that connects at 150- 200 Mbps and I would be happy with that speed on the dv7. Which of the compatible wifi cards for my dv7 will provide the best wifi performance? I was going to get the Intel Centrino 1000, but it maxes out at 150 Mbps, which is also the claimed max for the Broadcom card I already have.

A:dv7-4180us wifi upgrade

Hi, You know the whitelist in BIOS and your machine was built in year 2010 therefore the chance to upgrade to other internal wifi card is very, very, very, very slim to none. USB dongle could be an option. Regards.

If yes , can you please tell me which 802.11ac/b/g/n wifi card would be an HP Compatible Upgrade ?

Thank you .

A:Upgrade Wifi card

I have some good news and bad news and some more bad news for you. Here is the Service manual: Manual See p. 51. This is a very technical and difficult process involving a lot of disassembly. That is bad news 1. Bad news 2 is that HP may have put only one wireless antenna in your laptop. If that is the case, upgrade is nearly impossible as any card you put in there will be ineffective with one antenna and an 802.11ac card will not work at all.  The good news is that there is no whitelist. You can install any module of the correct form factor which is half-height mini pci-e like this:   Above is likely the card you have...the dreaded Realtek RTL8188EE which keeps us in business here at the Forum from the volume of issues.  What you need to do is follow the manual and open it up and check to see if there are 2 antennae or just one. If one, close it up and start thinking about a usb adapter. If 2, then I recommend this: https://www.amazon.com/AzureWave-Broadcom-BCM94352HMB-BCM94352-867Mbps/dp/B00JY6X9HM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=U... That will be the best wi-fi card compatible with your AMD processor system and your form factor requirements.  Post back if you need any more help. If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

Hello

I have recently up-graded my laptop from 8 to 8.1. Since that time, the laptop will not automatically connect to my home wifi. If I try to connect manually, it will say "unable to connect to network" and that's it, no more clues! The only way I can connect is by selecting 'restart' and then it will re-boot and connect automatically. If I 'shut-down' after use (or hibernate) it will not re-connect until I have selected 're-start' which is time consuming and annoying!

Any ideas? Thanks

A:Will not connect to home wifi since 8.1 upgrade

We will need your system specs in order to help you.

This is most likely a driver problem but we need more info in order to find the correct driver.

At the moment the Wireless Router is located in my bedroom which is 12 meters from the living room where the phone line is. I basically have one phone line extension from the telephone line to my bedroom where I've plugged in the ADSL filter. The modem part plugs into the actual router and the telephone line is then extended back to the living room with a second extension cable. As you can imagine this leaves a lot of wires around as the cables are really long. It's hard to move furniture around etc and quite frankly just doesn't look nice.

What I'd like to do is have a WiFi dongle for my PC and move the router to the living room. Now the problem is that my phone gets a very weak WiFi signal once you go 10m+ so I imagine if I moved the router to there then I would barely get a signal in my bedroom.

I have two options to solve this:

(1) Use a WiFi extender in between my room and the router and then a dongle for my computer

or

(2) Upgrade my current G router to an N router. Problem is I'm not too sure the signal will reach my room. There's a 12 meter range from the living room to my bedroom btw.

Here's my choice for an N router:

A:WiFi Extender or Upgrade to N Router?

12 meters is well within the range of 802.11g. 802.11n has much greater range but that may not help you if your problem is poor or loose antennas on the adapters or obstructions in the path from router to adapter.

The best solution is to place the modem (or modem/router combo) where the phone line will be the shortest and best. Then run ethernet cable(s) to your computer or to where a router or wireless access point will give you good Wi-Fi service. If you can't run the cable through walls, along duct work, to the attic or basement, maybe you can run it along where ceiling meets wall.

A Repeater (or Range Extender) will slow the network, but may otherwise work very well. Or not. Can't predict.

Homeplugs (ethernet over the electrical system) is another solution that works great--better than Wi-Fi--for some people and not at all for others. Depends on the quality of the electrical system and is also difficult to predict. If you try this method buy returnable equipment.

I upgraded a few days ago on my ACER Aspire 605G from Windows 7 to Windows 10 and I lost wifi capability.  After upgrading numerous drivers, The Qualcomm Atheros Wireless LA Driver gave a message that said, "The device may not be present or could have been ejected/unplugged from the system.  Insert or reinsert now."  Is that the root of the problem. How do I fix the wifi access?  Thanks for your help.

I upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7 last night on my laptop. The laptop is a Lenovo Z570 with an i7 processor.

My basic problem is that I do not have the capability to turn on my wifi and search for networks now. The hardware switch does nothing. I went into device manager and the network adapter is recognized and shows as working and enabled. The networking adapter I have for wireless is the Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless-N 1000. In the system tray, I only show the red "x" over the wired networking icon, no wireless options.

If I dig deep into the device manager, open the network adapter, go into events and click "view all events", there are several instances of the same error. They all list the same except for the driver name:

Hello,

Any recommendation what card will supported on my Inspiron? Where I can order it? Do Dell offer the modules directly for upgrade?
Current card is Dell Wireless 1810 with new M.2/NGFF Connection (not mini PCI-ex socket), which use mediocre realtek chipset inside.
and, by upgrading this part, do I lose my warranty?
Currently living in Indonesia.

Thankyou before.

We have had problems with the wifi on our HP stream since we bought it in January.  It frequently won't connect - asks for password and repeatedly says it is incorrect.  Eventually it connects but only a frustrating period of re-entering a password we know to be correct.  Sometimes it even drops when connected.  We have taken it back to the store twice - both times it has supposedly been fixed.  We have had Virgin out to check our router.  All was fine and he suggested it might be the wifi card.  Is this possible?  Can we upgrade? If not, is there an ethernet cable we can use to connect? (I bought one but it needed a CD drive).  Very frustrated so ideas welcome!

A:Can I upgrade the wifi card on HP Stream 11?

The manual for the Stream 11 shows that the Wifi card (known as the WLAN module) is socketed and replaceable. In the past HP has whitelisted certain cards so that only specific ones will work with a given BIOS. I am not sure if that is still the case with the Stream laptops but you could risk buying a card that would not work.  Have you tried reinstalling the Wifi driver from the hp.com site?  That has been required by some other Stream notebook owners who have posted here.

A:Upgrade the Wifi Card in My HP 17-e118dx

Hi: You should be able to, if your notebook currently has two antenna leads attached to the wireless card. Since your notebook has an AMD processor and chipset, you would be limited to installing a Broadcom dual band wireless N card with bluetooth, or a Broadcom dual band wireless AC card with bluetooth. 99% of the time, Intel wireless cards don't work on AMD platforms. If your notebook only has one antenna lead, you would have to be willing and able to take the whole notebook apart including the display panel area, to properly run a second antenna.

Hi Everyone:

I am at the point where I have to upgrade the wireless network here in my house because the "G" protocol system I have and used for 5 years or so just isn't getting it done any more so I am looking around to upgrade to an "N" protocol system and I have some compatibility questions that I hope this group can answer from their experiences.

The current system I have here is a "G" protocol system. My laptops (I have two) are "G" and "N" compliant so there is no problems there. My wife's desktop computer connects via a network cable to a port on my current Linksys WRT54G router and my desktop computer communicates via WiFi with the wireless router. My desktop is at the end of the house from the router and this is where part of the problem is coming in. Because of the design of the house I can't get up in the attic and run a network drop (plus the fact that my wife would absolutely freak and have a major hissy fit if she saw me cutting holes in the walls . . .) so I am constrained to wireless. I have a Linksys "G" USB dongle type wireless antennae connected to my desktop via a USB extension cable and the antennae is at the highest point on my computer desk. The signal to my desktop with this setup is fairly consistent with few dropouts but the strength leaves a bit to be desired running at three or on a good day four bars on the meter.

My first choice would be to upgrade to a Linksys 1200 or ... Read more

Hi, I have an IdeaPad S510p (not the touch model) and it seems my Wifi/BT mini PCI card is having issues when resuming from sleep (the OS doesn't matter, seen it on Windows and Linux). I thought about replacing this card but then I thought that since it's Mini PCI card, why not just upgrade this card with something that has both 2.4 and 5Ghz as well as the latest bluetooth? So, could someone recommend me a Mini PCI card which I can use with the S510p that has 2.4/5Ghz, a/b/g/n/ac and BT 4.0+ please? Thanks
