XP Pro - No Audio, Audio has stopped working.

Q: XP Pro - No Audio, Audio has stopped working.

I recently did some housecleaning with my pc and now the audio isn't working. I had shut off some services, not windows audio service. I also used adaware programs, of which only a few low threat items were listed. Overall the system is pretty clean.
But for some reason the audio stopped working. I have updated the creative soundblaster live drivers just in case. I patched them as well. Still nothing so I uninstalled the audio. I then reinstalled it and also moved it into different pci slots. Windows picks it up each time and everything seems to work fine. If I run Windows Media Player, it acts like it's playing the music. If I run system sounds through audio in the control panel, they act like they play fine. But still no sound coming from the speakers. I switched the audio card with another. It also installed fine but still no sound. I then tested the speakers on another system and they had sound on that system.

I just don't know what could have gone wrong. I went back and reenabled all services just in case there was a dependency for Windows Audio that was keeping it from working.
I just don't understand how the light on the speaker that shows its getting audio from another system works fine, but hooking it up to this one the green light doesn't come on. It's like the signal isn't being transmitted out from Windows even though the audio programs are saying it is.

I also checked audio properties in the taskbar to make sure that for audio playback that the audio card is the selected device. I also checked to make sure that the audio is not muted.

I have patched the system and updated all the drivers for all the hardware. It's a Dell 8100. Everything was working fine. There is one unknown device but I believe it to be part of the help and support feature that DELL had for this series of systems. But that was always present before.

I don't know if there is something internal to how windows handles audio that needs to be reinstalled. I really don't want to reinstall windows. =(

Thanks in advance.

A: XP Pro - No Audio, Audio has stopped working.

When the speakers are connected to another system, as soon as the other systems turn on, the green power light for the speakers turn on. These speakers are powered by an adapter that plugs into the wall, they aren't powered by usb. But when those speakers are plugged into this pc's audio card, the green light does not come on at power on or even when fully into windows. Its like the pci slots aren't getting power or something? But if that was so, wouldn't the audio cards not be read by the system? So, I don't know, so confused.

I make music with my computer and therefore the onboard sound card that came with my motherboard is disabled and I've installed a dedicated sound card instead. The soundcard I work with is an M-Audio Delta Series 2496 Audiophile PCI card. I've been using this card without problems for about 5 years.

Today the card seems to have stopped working and I suspect it has something to do with recent stuff I've been doing with my computer.

Here is stuff I did prior to my soundcard's failure to work. I have no idea which if any of these things are related to the problem or not. I also have know idea at what stage the sound stopped working.

YESTERDAY:
- a friend came with an mp3 player (Creative ZEN Jukebox). He had some data on it (using it as a kind of external hard drive) which he wanted to transfer to my computer.

- I downloaded/installed the latest driver and plugged it (via USB) to my computer. The computer recognized the device, but for some odd reason it did not show all the data. We tried several things including re-downloading and re-installing the driver and installing a media player app by Creative but nothing worked. I uninstalled the driver and the Creative app.

(at this stage I remember my audio was fine, because I listened to some music. This was the last time I attempted to use audio before first noticing the problem)
TODAY

- I realized that when installing the Creative app I had without noticing installed some bundled software that scans for... Read more

So i've had my audio connected via dvi-hdmi cable (750ti) and its been working fine for months.

this morning i blew a bunch of dust out of my system with an air compressor and noticed when i turned it back on it wasn't giving audio anymore.

tried uninstalling and reinstalling drivers that didn't work.

The Tv still comes up in the "Set up digital audio" options in the control panel, but windows isn't seeing the audio anymore.

any ideas?

A:TV audio just stopped working.

Is HDMI set as the default audio playback device? HDMI audio either is generated internally in the video card or is fed from a digital audio S/PDIF connection on the motherboard. Since you were inside, either the cable connection has been disturbed or if that is not how yours works, reseat the video card and see if that helps (Reseat - with the PC powered off, remove the video card then reinsert making sure its fully and correctly seated on the motherboard).

My sound stopped working. My computer says that everything is working fine but its not working at all.
There is this error message I get when I press the start button (the specified module could not be found msls31.dll) It all started with that error, now Iv'e tried to do the sfc/scannnow but I get this message (Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them). I can't seem to figure out how to do it manually. I have no audio on my laptop for 2 days now. I can't seem to fix it myself. Help!

A:Audio stopped working Win 7 32 bit

I've seen many posts about fixing the msls31.dll problem with google searches. Microsoft's fix is the sfc scannow which you did and didn't fix it.

Although you have no audio, the best option is another forum section. After you get the msls31.dll problem (and any other system issue) corrected you can then address the sound (if it is still an issue).

The Software section may be a place to start. Repost there, as I can't move this to a different section. Software - Windows 7 Help Forums

My computer's onboard audio recently stopped working. The Realtek High Definition Audio Speakers suddenly show as "Not plugged in" in the Playback devices dialog.

Coinciding with this, five new devices, all "Speakers," all showing as "Ready" or one of the defaults, have appeared: WsAudio_DeviceS(1) through WsAudio_DeviceS(5).

None of these WsAudio_DeviceS produce any audio when tested; I have tried this with both my speakers and some headphones.

The Realtek Digital Output still appears as "Ready," which isn't useful, given that I don't have any S/PDIF devices.

I have tried connecting some wireless headphones with a Bluetooth dongle I had lying around, but I couldn't get them to work very well (nor could I back when my speakers were working). Recording with a USB microphone works fine, but I haven't tried it through the onboard audio Line In jack.

Looking at other, similar problems on forums, I found many people who were able to resolve this problem by changing the settings in the Realtek HD Audio Manager, which I don't have for my MSI PH61A-P35 motherboard. The only effect that reinstalling the audio drivers had for me was uninstalling the drivers for my USB keyboard for no reason.

Does anybody have any ideas about how I can get audio to work? I haven't been able to find my old PCI soundcard, but I'll try that if I find it.

Hey everyone, I'm new to the forums and came here because I have an encountered a problem which I cannot seem to fix. I have a custom built pc I put together myself. I'm running windows 7 and over the past year and a half since I've had it there have been no major issues. However, today I restarted my computer to let it do some updates. I have bitdefender and it kept bugging me to do the update. After restarting my pc I suddenly had no audio whether I used headphones plugged into the audio jacks or my Bluetooth gaming headset. I went into audio device management etch and from the outside looking in everything seemed to look fine. I googles the problem and tried to go into my bios. That didn't work and when I tried to access them my screen went black and now when I restart my computer it doesn't show the "Gigabyte" screen before loading windows. It gets worse though. I thought maybe I could fix the problem by reinstalling my realtek hd audio drivers. So I uninstalled them and went to the realtek site to download them. Did that and installed the drivers but they didn't show up when I went to computer/manage under the audio/game section. Next I tried to update them using the install legacy hardware option. That's when the real problems started. Doing this gave me a blue screen and my computer crashed and when I went back into manage computer it showed the realtek was there now but it said no drivers were installed. I've tried multiple times to update/install legacy har... Read more

I have a laptop with Windows Vista. All of a sudden there is a red and white X over the sound icon on the system tray. If i put the cursor over it, it says "No Audio Output Device" is installed. I have Googled this a few times, and the first suggestion I am seeing is to go to Device Manager and uninstall and reinstall the driver. There is no sound driver there anymore all of a sudden... I've gone to HP's website and tried to manually install the driver, and it installs but I get an error saying "Driver Installation Failed: Could not find the MEDIA device for this driver".

I'm out of ideas... Anyone? I have an HP dv2810ca.

You need to be more specific, did your audio (speakers/headphones) stop working, do you get a DirectSound error message. I have found that when the audio cuts out on my system (rare, but does happen), I get it working again by going into control panel, services, and stopping and starting the WINDOWS AUDIO service gets the audio going again.

I just updated my computer and about 30 minutes after the update the earbuds I use to listen to music just stopped working but my headphones work perfectly fine. It's not an issue with my earbuds because I used them on my phone when they stopped working on the computer and they worked just fine.  It can't be the front jacks that are screwing up because I uninstalled the drivers and installed them again to see if it would work and they installed when I plugged them in the front audio jack. IDT also detects them when I have them plugged in... The earbuds work when I plug them into the audio jacks at the back of the desktop Appearently my computer doesn't want to register the front jacks anymore...

Hi guys,

I wonder if anyone can help.

My wife was using our PC, playing an online puzzle game, and she muted the sound.
When I came to use the PC myself, I noticed the sound was muted, so I un-muted it, expecting all to be good again, but it wasn't.
No sound at all !
After messing around for quite a while, I tried uninstalling and re-installing the drivers, that hasn't worked.
I've just done a system restore, and that hasn't worked either.
I've run MBAM & Microsoft Security Essentials, and neither has shown any problems.
I'm at a total loss, please help.

Many thanks in advance

This happened once before.
I somehow got it back by reapplying the IDT drivers.
However, now seems as though I can't get those drivers to install (error message is hardware not supported by drivers, which it was before and working). Within the device manager, when attempting to update drivers, error comes up saying that the "co-installer" needs to do something.
Any thoughts?

Both audio playback through the integrated sound card and recording through a USB microphone stopped working suddenly

I cannot play back or record anything

No application software can find the either the sound or recording channels.

In device manager both recording and playback devices are listed, enabled and working properly.

If I launch an audio track the sound bars levels against the device do not move. The speaker next to the clock is present and does not have a red cross through it.

The first thing I did was do a system restore to a couple of days previously when I know it was all working - still nothing.

I have checked the BIOS to make sure audio is enabled and set to automatic - it is.

Cannot be the integrated sound card - Dell XPS 430 - because the separate USB microphone does not work either.

It is like all audio functions have stopped being accessible to software applications, although Windows 7 Ultimate 64 sees them as present, enabled and working.

So Windows sees the audio devices, Windows applications do not.

Any ideas please?

Thanks

My audio has stopped working for Windows and Gaim, but Winamp and various games are still fine. I've reinstalled the drivers many times and uninstalled every possible audio device, but I always end up with the same thing.

In Winamp's WaveOut plugin, the first device is messed up.
In DirectSound everything is fine.
In Windows' sound manager, the preview button is greyed out.
I think this means there is something wrong with my wave settings, I just don't know how to fix it. Hope the pics help, let me know if you need more info.

hi all.
For some reason my realtek audio has stopped working on my windows7 64bit system.
I just turned it on this morning. No sound.
I checked in playback devices and noted that under 'speakers' it tells me "Realtek high definition audio not plugged in"
Under that there is 'Realtek Digital Output' and this says "Realtek High Definition Audio Default Device"

The speakers are plugged in an I have tested them on another system to check they are working.
I have opened the Realtek HD Audio Manager and noticed that all analog back and front panel jack inputs are grayed out.
I have uninstalled all Realtek drivers and software. I have rebooted and let windows find the audio devices again and install drivers.
This made no difference at all.
I have cleaned the registry of anything relating to Realtek.
I have downloaded the latest driver software from the Realtek web site and installed that. This makes no difference either.
I have set the bios back to default. This has made no difference.
In the bios I have set the HD AUDIO option to both 'auto' and 'off'. still no sound.
All connections are in the correct jack sockets.

Could you please help me to get audio back on my system?
I have pretty much run out of things to try.

Thank You.

I have a Samsung laptop (about 4 years old) which has worked fine. Sound still works fine. About a month ago I noticed that when I plug in headphones the sound would come through both the headphones and the pc speakers (instead of just the headphones like it had been doing for years). Then about a week ago, the headphone jack stopped working altogether. Sound only comes through the pc speakers. Seems like a software thing to me. The jack does not appear damaged in any way. Nothing is jammed in it and it doesn't feel loose.

Here is my Realtek Audio Manager

Here is my device manager

Here is system information

Here is sound information

I have tried uninstalling all of my sound drivers and having them reinstall on a reboot. I tried a number of things I found on the internet. (ie My "little yellow folder" in Realtek Manager is missing. My "show disabled devices" does not reveal anything, etc). I have not dropped the laptop and nothing has spilled in it. I really don't see how anything could have physically damaged the jack (unless it just failed from use)

Please advise. Thanks so much for what you all do. This is a huge help although I know it seems trivial.

My sound randomly stopped working today.
I turned on my laptop (from hibernation) and noticed that sounds weren't playing.
I have tried fiddling with everything. I restarted the Windows Audio service, and checked everything having to do with my sound card and drivers, and it says there isn't any problems. I have rebooted my computer a few times, and tried remote restore, but it hasn't fixed it.
I haven't seen any error messages.
I looked in event viewer, and I can't find anything that has to do with Audio.
When I mute the sound, I can hear the static buzz sound that my speakers make stop.
If I unmute the microphone I can hear that work through the speakers, but I still can not play any sounds from my computer.
When I record sound with Sound Recorder, it shows the wave forms as it plays, but all I hear in the speakers is the buzz that they make when they are turned up.

I can't think of anything that I may have done to change the Audio.

Thanks for any help.

Every other time I play a video or a song, I get this popup window..

The only way to fix it is by right clicking on the little speaker by the clock, clicking sounds, then it asks if I want to turn the audio back on.

It's so irritating, how do I fix this?

A:Windows Audio Has Stopped Working :(

This is caused by stapo64.dll, which - from name - is a driver by IDT Audio. If you are not sure about this device and/or its driver, whether or not it's actually a component of your PC, then you'll wanna check the driver using virustotal.com. The file's located in Windows/System32 directory. If the file turns up clean, then find an update for it at your audio device manufacturer or your PC vendor's website.

I recently purchased a Razer Carcharias which has a low microphone. I have to put the microphone boost on +30db for it to be adequate for ventrilo/teamspeak.

With that being said, it has static due to the extreme microphone boost. There's an "enhancements" tab under the microphones properties which has the options: DC Offset Cancellation, Noise Suppression, and Acoustic Echo Cancellation.

I checked "Noise Suppression", this completely removes the static in my microphone, but muffles my voice slightly (which is fine).

Now I decided to plug in my old headset (microphone part only) in, and run some quality comparison tests using Windows Sound Recorder. After I was done and plugged my Razer microphone in, the Noise Suppression option stopped working completely.

I've tried using the back jacks, front jacks, and I even reinstall drivers, and used older drivers. I can't get the Noise Suppression option to remove my static, it has no effect checked or not.(And it used to before) How can I fix this?

Hello,
I recently put together a new system using a MSI K9NBPM2-FID mobo, Athlon 64 x2 5200, 2 Gb of Corsair XMS, and a Seagate 500 Gb SATA hard drive. I installed windows xp with no problem and everything worked. I then shut down the system and reconnected some old ide hard drives to transfer files that I wanted from the old system. After the transfer was complete, I shut down the pc and removed the old hard drives. I powered back up and there was no sound. I have checked in BIOS, tried uninstalling/reinstalling the drivers and audio devices/codecs, and tried reinstalling windows twice. I have also tried plugging the stereo into a different device to make sure it wasn't the stereo. Does anybody have any ideas if there is anything else that is fixable or is it most likely that the audio hardware failed after 1 day? Thank you for any suggestions or help.

A:Motherboard's onboard audio stopped working

If you re-installed Windows twice and sound didn't work: did you then go to device manager and see that all is O.K.? Do you have a sound card that needs drivers or still needs to be reinstalled? All that I know audio on my Pc's is Window's "multimedia audio controller"...Sound card and it's drivers and installing it...then your speaker system. I bet this will turn out to be a simple thing like mute turned on somewhere or something. Good Luck.

I have an E6540 connected to an E-Port docking station, running Windows 7 64 Professional.
I just upgraded everything to the latest version, i.e. BIOS to A16, Audio drivers and audio manager to NCN00_WN32_6.0.1.6069_A11, and now the speaker jack on the dock is no longer working. It does even show up on the list of audio devices. The built in speakers/microphone and the headset jack on the laptop works fine, as does everything else on the dock (video, USB ...).

A:E6540 E-Port audio stopped working

After upgrading BIOS to A17, the dock port now works as "headphone", provided that nothing is connected to the headset port on the machine itself.

My sound stopped working last night, and everything I have tried hasn't worked. I've had this computer for 2 years using vista.

Here are the symptoms:
In the "playback and recording devices", it says my headphones are working.
If I try to do the "test" option, it gives me a failed to play test tone error.
If I use my microphone on another laptop that also has vista, it works
It's obviously plugged in. I have tried reinstalling the drivers and I've restarted my pc, still doesn't work
I have tried restarting windows audio in services.msc, doesn't work
the "roll back drivers" option is greyed out for me in device manager
Googling hasn't helped me either, none of the solutions so far have solved my problem. Even some method involving regedit.

So I'm exhausted and a bit frustrated. Does anyone know?

Hello everyone. I'm using an Asrock p4i65g motherboard running xp3, and it has onboard an audio chipset called cmedia AC97. It's attached directly to the motherboard and has line out, microphone in, and line in. It was working beautifully up until a couple days ago. I suddenly had several problems at once with various system components, (my wireless card and my video card), all of which I got sorted out (the former by rolling back the driver, and the latter by updating the drivers). However, the audio has stopped working altogether. Windows seems to be unable to even see it at all. I've downloaded the driver installer package from the motherboard manufacturer (here: ASRock > Products > Motherboard > P4i65G > Download ) and when I run the installer, it says fairly quickly a message about how I my computer isn't installed with the chipset so I can't install the drivers.

Very frustrating. It's as if windows thinks the physical chipset has disappeared from the motherboard. Which it hasn't, as I can actually see it. How can I force xp to recognize my onboard audio chipset? Please don't say reinstall windows! =)

I even went into bios setup and changed the setting for the onboard audio from "auto" to "enabled".

At this point I'm thinking my only solution is to buy a PCI audio card and use that instead. Sigh.

Thanks for any help. Benjamin

Hi, my dvd drive has recently stopped playing audio cds and burnings blank cds, when I insert one it makes a slight clicking noise and then it seems to struggle to load them up (the disc loading sign does appear) but then it gives up after about a minute. I can play DVDs on it fine but i haven't checked if it will burn DVDs.

My computer is: HP - Compaq Media Center m7210.uk Desktop/PC

DVD DRIVE: lite-on dvdrw shw-1635s

Everything is fully updated to the latest windows XP package.

Can anyone help me at all? From searching the internet to solve this problem I heard something about putting a wordpad file onto the device manager or something like that, but I struggled to follow this.

Help would be very much appreciated.

Thank you

A:Audio CDs/Blank CDRs stopped working

It's possible that your drive is failing and you will just need to purchase a different one. You could try these fixes, to see if one works.

1.) Change the "DVD Region", the current setting could be causing the problem.

2.) Check your drive cable connecting your drive(s) to the motherboard. If you have two drives attached to one cable as "slave" and "master" - try just disconnecting any other drive and leaving just the Lite On drive, to see if that fixes the problem.

3.) Try cleaning the laser of your drive with compressed air or a cleaning disk.

I have a dual boot Win 7, Win 8 setup. Suddenly the audio has stopped working on Win 8. (Works fine on Win 7) I checked for driver updates, even "installed" an old driver which didn't actually install. The volume control shows its trying to work, puff of green comes and goes at the bottom of the slider.

If you have had this problem and solved it please let me know. Other suggestions welcome however I've tried "cleaning" for other concerns and that made a real mess of the setups for several programs. I suppose I could do a refresh but that's equivalent to a re-install... what a pain.

A:Windows 8 Audio suddenly stopped working

I guess I looked in the wrong place for answers and they moved my posting to this area. Unfortunately it appears others have the same problem with no solution. I did try updating the video driver along with all available Win 8 updates. Still no audio.

I have all my programs running well on the Win 7 partition so I'm thinking of doing a Refresh. If that "refreshes" back to the original installation I assume the many many updates will be required. Any idea how long that will take?

Hey guys,

Normally I can fix most issues with the PC's I maintain, but recently my brother's audio on his PC stopped working. It uses the AC97 chipset, and I have tried multiple drivers etc to fix it, but not getting anywhere.

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced a similar issue, its an asrock k7gs41s I believe. Its also running XP, and I'd rather not format it, unless this would be the only likely fix.

Cheers,
Nic

A:AC97 Audio stopped working randomly.

im sorry to say I also have the A97 sound stuff in my lappy
one day i was playing happily ... listening to music ... then the speakers started to distort!
i turned off the music and ran some speaker tests and eventually the problem cleared up.
next time i turned the laptop on i didnt hear anything .. when i went to play music i got the error "media player cannot play the file as there is no audio hardware present"

i had a look in device manager and my sound stuff wasnt there

restarted the system and it worked fine again

but a few days later the windows seems to think that the audio hardware does not exist in my machine!! its so frustrating!
i contacted acer and they said to return my laptop to factory settings ... which didnt work
so acer wanted to take my laptop from me ... for 8 weeks!!!! i cant realistically be without my laptop for more than a week as i need it for work, presentations and university.
even though my laptop is still in warrenty period they will not give me a like for like transfer!

in the end and bought a really nice creative 5.1 external sound card and its really good!

should have been 45 but because it was the last one in stock at comet they sold it to me for 20

tho i really would like my on-board sound to work again because lugging external speakers about isnt really handy.

so i guess my advice is to expect the worst and buy another sound card preferably creative!

Hope I'm posting it in the right category -_-.

Anywho, my audio was working fine one day. The next day I turned my computer on and the audio had stopped working. My speakers were still plugged in correctly, there's power but no sound. I've tried to rewind my system but it changed nothing. I tried plugging my headphones into my computer and sound works there. I've tried to go to device manager and remove my realtek driver and let the system restart and let it reinstall. I've noticed it says I have two audio drivers, I don't know if that's the problem.
I've got "AMD High Definition Audio Device" (actually before it said ATI, but I went to their website to try reinstall the drivers though it didn't help) and "Realtek High Definition Audio".
So my speakers work fine and I take it there's nothing wrong with the sound card since my headphones work when plugged in. I've tried removing both the two drivers, let them reinstall on their own and update my drivers.

It'd be lovely if anyone had any advice.

Both audio playback through the integrated sound card, and recording through a USB microphone stopped working suddenly - cannot play back or record anything and no application software can find the audio devices.

In device manager both devices are listed, enabled and working properly. If I launch an audio track the sound bars levels against the device do not move. The speaker next to the clock is present and does not have a red cross through it.

The first thing I did was do a system restore to a couple of days previously when it was all working - still nothing. So this eliminates drivers etc being an issue.

I have checked the BIOS to make sure audio is enabled and set to automatic - it is.

The Windows audio manager service is enabled and set to automatic.

Cannot be the integrated sound interface - Dell XPS 430 - because the USB microphone, which is not connected to the sound interface, does not work either.

It is like all audio functions have stopped being accessible to software applications, although Windows 7 Ultimate 64 sees them as present, fully enabled and working.

Any ideas please?

Thanks.

How can I find out if I have a sound device and get a driver for it??

When I rebooted Widows tried to install new hardware - found audio device on High Definition Audio Bus. It couldn't find what it needed and asked me if I had installation media, which I didn't.

Try running SFC. Check out the information at the following link and follow the instructions. It will run and if it passes, it will tell you it didn't find any integrity issues. Your other option is to restore your system to an earlier date when the sound worked. That procedure is also available at the following link. Let me know what you find.

Hello, recently my computer has been crashing to a desktop without any of my icons, or when the disc drive trys to burn something. So i tried to do a system restore and all that happened was my Audio stopped working as well as my mouse. Ive managed to fix the mouse, have run a virus scan and presumably cleaned whatever the problem is, yet i still cant install drivers for my realtek audio, nvidia hd audio and my DVD burner. Ive tried installing in safe mode, uninstalling/disabling the drivers. My windows updater seems to be screwed up as well since i cannoy manually activate it. Any suggestions?

A:Mouse/Audio/Disc Drivers stopped working

There are no drivers required for any optical drives including your DVD burner. They are provided by the Windows OS.
Go to Start/Search and type devmgmt.msc Right click the devmgmt results and Run As Administrator. In the Elevated Device Manager, do you have any devices with Yellow flags? If so, these devices need drivers installed.
What is the make and model# of your computer? Go to the manufacturers support/download drivers site and type in your make and model# or your service tag # and download the Chipset driver first and any other drivers you need from the Device Manager.
If your computer boots to a blank desktop with no icons, then press CTRL+ALT+DEL and start the Task Manager. Go up to File/New Task (Run...) and type in explorer.exe and press enter. This should bring back your icons.
If you have a desktop, go to Start/Search and type CMD right click the CMD results and Run As Administrator. In the Elevated Command Prompt type chkdsk /R and press enter. Now type a Y for Yes and reboot the computer. Check Disk will start at next bootup and go through 5 stages. It will take a while. It should repair any problems.

I have a nearly new Dell Inspiron  15 7000-series laptop. I also have a D3100 USB3 docking station. The dock has a monitor, speakers, mouse, keyboard, and disk drive attached. All was working fine for weeks. Just a few days ago, the speakers stopped working. Sound is now coming out of the laptop speakers even when the laptop is docked. In the Device Manager, when it is docked, there is a USB Audio device that has an exclamation mark on it. (E.g. isn't working.) I've tried updated the audio driver through the Dell support site. No improvement. I then found the latest driver on dell.com for the D3100 dock. I tried installing it, but it was refused, saying that the existing driver was up to date.
The speakers work fine when plugged directly into the laptop audio jack. E.g. there is no problem with the speaker hardware.
Any ideas how I can get the dock audio working again

Hello,
I have a problem with SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio on my HP - nc6220 laptop, WinXP professional sp2.

SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio just stopped working, I tried reinstalling it but it always says that there was a problem during installation and it might not work properly.

In Control Panel>Sounds and Audio devices it's all grayed out so I cannot do anything there.
In device manager there is a yellow exclamation mark, I tried disable-enable but it does not help.
I also tried updating the driver, re-enabling windows audio in services, even reinstalled Windows and installing sp3.

Also I tried an USB sound card and it is working well.

Is there anything else I could do, or maybe SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio is just broken and cannot be fixed?

Audio isn't working anymore on my HP Pavilion P7-1436s. I upgraded to win 10 a few months ago, but the sound only recently cut out. It "looks" fine, as in my machine recognizes when I plug an audio device in the jacks. All the testing in the windows audio settings show the volume bar moving, too. But no sound comes out. The volume on everything is adjusted so it should be audible. I've tried several different codecs from the HP website, including:- sp59291- sp58818- sp63935- sp59416- sp59424-sp71717 (this one was supposedly specifically for Win 10 upgrades) All run as administrator, all producing similar results. (visually looks fine, no audio output though) Windows Audio is running and set to automatic in Services.msc I tried scanning my product on the website, but it repeatedly returns and error when searching for drivers, which is why I've tried so many; the HP site doesn't give me any to choose from. These were all drivers I found that helped others with similar issues in the forums, but they haven't helped me. Anybody know what I'm doing wrong? Can anybody point me in the right direction for a Win 10 IDT HD audio codec for my model number, since the automatic scanning doesn't work for me? Does anyone have any better ideas that I haven't tried? Any help is appreciated, thanks!

So I got a headset and it worked perfectly. (Trust me I dont know what it is so dont ask) I downloaded the game Just cause 2 from steam and had some audio problems with it. A solution was to reinstall audio drivers. So I did... And this worked fixing the games audio issue. I was going to start live streaming when I realized oh hey they cant hear me. SO I looked all over the internet for solutions and none of them work. In device manger I saw that I have NVIDIA High Definition Audio AND Realtek High definition Audio. I looked to see if either one needed updates and nope. I have a windows 7 computer so if you can help me with this that would be great. My microphone is not broken because i pluged it into my ipod and did a test it works (I have a high quality mic and you can tell the difference between my mic and the build in ipod touch mic.) Please help me with this! If you need any more info please ask. I am seriously about to just throw my computer our the window because of how annoying this issue is. Yesterday afternoon, I was playing Grand Theft Auto IV on my PC and while I was in-game, the sound started to crackle and slow down and then suddenly turned off (sound only). I was still able to play the game without any issues but there was no sound!

I exited to Desktop (Windows 7 SP1) and there was NO SOUND AT ALL! Nothing made the sound work. I had to reboot the computer and then the sound came back but after a couple of minutes, again, the sound stopped working. This time, I was NOT playing any game, I was just surfing the web!

I rebooted again and then went to YouTube and tried playing a video; the video played like slow-motion (couple of FPS) and there was no sound again!

After another reboot, I tried playing a video I had on my computer using Windows Media Player. It played fine for a couple of minutes and then it started to stutter/lag (like slow-motion) and the sound the cut-off!

I can't figure out what caused this issue and I'm not sure how to go about fixing this!

I've downloaded all the drivers that I could find and nothing works. Is there a driver for another machine that will work with my Gateway?

A:Realtek HD Audio stopped working after I upgraded Windows

There is a generic driver available from RealTek, but if you have reinstalled the correct driver from Gateway, I doubt that the direct from RealTek will help.

Are there any other problems that you are aware of, after the 8.1 update? I don't recall this being a problem with audio.

Go to the Device Manager and display what is listed in the Sounds Video and Game Controllers section. Post back on what is listed there, including any error codes. Better yet, post a screen shot of that section.

Realtek HD Audio Drivers randomly failed after about a month of perfect operation.
The icon for Realtek has vanished, and the audio manager is nowhere to be found in the control panel. Realtek is no longer seen in Device Manager as well. Playback Devices menu shows nothing related to Realtek like it previously did.

Now my front and back audio ports do not detect anything. Only the HDMI audio is working via my monitor speakers. All other peripherals are working fine as well (I don't have anything to test the mic ports).

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers multiple times, from both the version given on the Realtek site and Gigabyte site. The HD Manager is still nowhere to be found.

I tried manually installing the driver to the device manager via the "Install Legacy Driver" and receive "This device cannot start. (Code 10)" as the device status. I have NVIDIA High Definition Audio also installed and working perfectly. I tried uninstalling all of my audio drivers (including the High Definition Audio Controllers in the System Devices categories) only for it to reinstall my NVIDIA drivers that I believe supply the HDMI sound.

I am under the impression that Realtek is supposed to install to both Program Files and Program Files (x86)? It is only installing to the latter every time I try to uninstall and reinstall. A search for RAVCpl64.exe yields nothing.

I am currently running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.

A:Realtek HD Audio Driver Randomly Stopped Working and Disappeared

First question what is displayed in the Device Manager, Sound Section? (All entries - post a screenshot).

HDMI sound and PC sound are separate as the HDMI sound is generated by a sound chip on the video board.

If the sound chip is working and not having a conflict, if the RealTek will not install the generic Windows installed HD Audio Driver will be used. If this is not installing either (after uninstalling the Realtek and rebooting) it does sound like a potential hardware problem.

Try this, go to the Device Manager, RIGHT click on the entry for the RealTek sound (even if it has the error code), then Left click "Uninstall" and check the box to also uninstall the drivers (if it gives you that option). Then restart the PC and watch to see if Windows detects the sound and installs the HD Audio Driver. If it does, that says the sound chip is OK. If not, either its bad or it has not been identified and you need to reinstall the Intel motherboard chipset drivers (one of the chipset functions is it identifies all the devices on the motherboard).

I do not know what happened. It just suddenly stopped working one day and now the sound icon in the toolbar has a red "X" on it. When I click on it it runs a trouble shoot which eventually comes up with "ATI High Definition Audio Device has a driver problem." I have tried to go to Realtek and download the "ATI HDMI Audio Device" and run that but it hasn't worked. I also tried to do the driver only download from the website for Windows 7 but that didn't seem to work either. I eventually received a message that stated "Install Realtek HD Audio Diver Failure !! [Error Code : 0x000000FF]." I looked in Windows Update to see if maybe there was a new update for a driver to fix it but it didn't have anything.

A few days ago the sound on my computer stopped working. I just woke up one day and went to play a song in itunes and it wouldn't play. I clicked on volume and checked it. Then clicked on playback devices and it said no jack information. No audio controller installed or something. I went to device manager and tried to reinstall or update drivers. The drivers were moved to unknown with a yellow exclamation point. I tried this to no avail. I tried in safe mode. I tried redownloading drivers from motherboard website ASUS. It keeps telling me Access is Denied (Code 28). A couple of times after restarting it said I needed to Reinstall driver, but when i tried it said the latest driver was already installed. Then it went back to Access denied. I don't have any idea what happened. Can someone please help me.

My audio rear outs used to work, but even so, i was primarily using hdmi out from my video card. I was also diagnosing BSODs at the time and sent my mobo back to asus for an rma. When it got back, I placed it in a different case and attached the font panel audio.

Due to a new living circumstance, I decided to switch back to the normal audio out, as my hdmi sound is awful on my new monitor. Problem is, now i find that the onboard audio does not work.

I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling and updating drivers, I have disabled all other drivers in the device manager, I have disconnected the front panel entirely. Nothing seems to re-enable my back panel.

Everything seems like in this thread Just got done building a new computer but... - techPowerUp! Forums
except my audio interface is ASUS, not MSI, and does not allow for front panel detection. (their solution was to "disable front panel jack detection" but this interface does not allow for this)

See the attached screenshots for interface.

Screenshot #2: This is with the HD settings enabled.

I have a self-assembled desktop PC - full specs in the signature below, but in short, it has an AMD Phenom II X6 1090T processor on a Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3P mainboard, which uses a Realtek Azalia ALC887 on-board sound system. I have no loudspeakers and listen to the computer sound exclusively through a Microsoft LX-1000 headset. I also have a Logitech C270 HD webcam that has its own microphone. My PC has 16 GB RAM, a SSD and a large HDD. It runs Windows 8.1 Update 1 with all Windows updates (Patch Tuesday was this week, but my problems had started before that and I'm sure they're unrelated).

Everything is working fine, except the audio, which started behaving strangely a few days ago. The problems started suddenly and I can't think of anything that could have caused them. There were no hardware changes or any intervention in the hardware, nor did I install any new software that could have messed up things.

When playing music, it sounds muffled, with the volume very low and the voice and several instruments muted, while other instruments in the background arrangement sound louder. No graphic equalizer is on, and this happens with any player software (Windows Media Player, VLC, Media Player Classic, etc.), and any source (MP3 music, audio CDs, DVDs, videos, etc.). There appears to be no hardware problem with either my headset or the onboard audio: when I run both Windows' native and Realtek's driver sound output tests, the test tune comes out loud and clear in the tested chann... A:Realtek audio, Gigabyte mobo: strange-sounding audio, mic not working

First thing to do is disable or disconnect the Web Cam. They have been known to cause various sound problems. It may not be the problem, but eliminate it as the problem.

Stereo Mix needs to be set as the Default Recording Device.

Refresh the RealTek by going to the Device Manager, RIGHT click on the RealTek entry in the Sound section then LEFT click "Uninstall". DO NOT uninstall the drivers. Restart the PC and when Windows starts it will reinstall the sound. This usually fixes any Windows/Sound corruptions. If this does not fix it, download and reinstall the RealTek sound drivers.

Hello everyone,

I'm having a problem using my motherboard?s onboard HD audio instead of my video card?s audio, so without further ado here is the situation;

I have an Asus maximus iii gene motherboard which has a SupremeFX X-Fi built-in sound card (this is a very nice card provided you can use it), on the board I have an ASUS EAH5870 V2 (basically an ATI 5870) which also has onboard audio useable through HDMI. When I first ran Windows 7 X64 the drivers for the video card and its audio were installed first, but then I noticed that my audio jacks (both on the back of motherboard and on the case) won?t work, which is a big problem for me. But at least I have audio through speakers on my monitor (through HDMI).

So to fix the problem I just tried to install drivers from Asus for the X-FI chip, but that failed since no HD audio hardware could be found by the installer. Google-ing the problem I came across hotfixes, which Asus also provides but they are not compatible with windows 7 X64? so I?m back at square one.

It?s worth mentioning I have gone through my device manager and under audio only the ATI HD audio device is visible and I cannot see the X-FI device anywhere.
So I would like help installing drivers for the X-FI chip and use the onboard surround sound and HD audio jack on the case.

Thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to read this.

A:Onboard audio not working and audio drivers won't install

hkhajavi, welcome to the forums.

First off let me say that despite the fancy sounding name that Asus likes to give some of its onboard audio solutions,in no way shape or form is what is on yours a X-Fi (which I hope you did not try installing any drivers from Creative for as they will not work). Looking at the specs and the download page for your motherboard,

http://www.asus.com/product.aspx?P_I...TqM&templete=2

yours has the Via audio chip on it (some of the previous versions of the SupremeFX X-Fi used a Soundmax/ADI based audio chip), of which Asus does have a Windows 7 driver for (both 32 and 64 bit). They also appear to have the updated X-Fi software (also known as X-Fi MB, which is where the X-Fi name comes from for the onboard audio; it gets to use some of the X-Fi software, but it is not a X-Fi sound card) available for it under the Utilities section in the downloads.

You may also need to run the updated Intel chipset Utility for the onboard audio to be detected. Once it is detected and the drivers are installed you will then need to open the Windows playback properties and make sure that the onboard audio is set as the default playback device and not the ATI HDMI device.

Hello, this is my first post here on this forum.
About a week or two, I Downgraded my Computer (Dell l502x) from Windows 8 to Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bits, installed the drivers from the Dell Page, and everything worked good, except for the Realtek HD Audio Driver Version 6.0.1.6312 (Recommended for my PC on Dell Website), This is the problem:
When I Start my computer, a message shows up with the following error: "Realtek HD Audio Manager has stopped working" and then, I Have to close the message and open Realtek HD Audio Manager again from the Control Panel. I Have already tried re-installing Windows and the error keeps appearing After I Install that driver, I Was wondering if maybe that version of the driver is faulty or something (It would be weird, since it's the one Dell recommends for this computer on the page)
I Have visited many forums, including this one looking for a fix to this issue, but I have not found a solution yet. So I was wondering if someone had this issue before and has a solution to this annoying problem.
any Help would be appreciated, Thanks.

Here's a picture of the issue im having when I start Windows 7 (It's in Spanish, but I think you will understand it)

A:"Realtek HD Audio Manager has stopped working" at Windows Startup

Try the R275 version on the RealTek site. Its the latest version and will work on your PC. When you run the Realtek installation the first thing it will do is uninstall the current version you have installed and then restart the PC. After the restart it will continue and install the R275 version. This is the version I have on all my PC's for both Win 7 64 bit and Win 8 64 bit.

Download the High Definition Audio Codec R.275 64 bit OS version.

I'm running a Dell XPS 420, which came with Windows Vista. I decided this morning that I was going to give Windows 7 a try, backed up some media on another PC, and did a completely fresh install.

Everything worked perfectly, I didn't even have to install any drivers. My native resolution was automatically correct, the sound worked, the internet worked, everything was dandy. It worked perfectly, and for the record, I really enjoyed it. I used it for several hours, getting used to the new features and whatnot.

I went to sleep for a few hours, and then went out for a while. When I came back, the sound had stopped working. It gave me no error at the time, it just didn't work. WinAmp wouldn't play my MP3s, Youtube videos were without audio, system sounds weren't playing, and yet, the volume was enabled and at an audible level of 67. My speakers were still connected properly, too.

I figured maybe a reboot was in order, and when I restarted, there was no sound still. Now, however, the speaker taskbar icon had a red x next to it, with the words "No Audio Output Device is installed." on the tooltip. I rebooted again and there was no change.

Using the Windows 7 trouble shooter, it says that "Hardware changes might not have been detected."

The odd thing is, this has happened to me before with Windows Vista. I wanted to perform a clean re-install of Vista, and when I did so, the sound worked perfectly for a few hours, before going out again. I would re-install Vi... Read more

A:Audio stops working, "No Audio Output Device Installed"

Hi filmtrauma, welcome to the forums.

While you have been asleep, Windows Update may have installed a new Sound driver for you which may have caused this error. Open Windows Update and click 'View Update History'....

You could try downloading the latest drivers from the hardware manufacturer, a lot are now supporting Windows 7 too..

Also, is your sound hardware plugged in (to the motherboard) securely? It's rare but i've dealt with some cases of hardware coming loose, might be worth a look. Another thing to check may be the temperature of the card, it may be getting overly hot due to a dust build up (might not be, i'm not 100% up-to-date on all sound hardware).

Hope this helps

I knew something was up, so I closed the game immediately, and stopped all programs that might be making any sound. After waiting for 5 minutes, i went to try and see if it was still occuring. I turned on a music file, and no sound came out at all. Afterwards, I restarted the computer..no success. Then I did a system restore. Once again, no success. I never received any error messages. As of right now, no matter what I try i cannot get any sound to come out of the computer. I have checked to see if my headphones were the problem, and they worked fine on another computer. Thank you for helping me!

I have three issues that may or may not be related.  They have appeared in the past week although prior to that, the computer was on but not being used (except to monitor an ISP cam) for 6 weeks.

1.  "Execution Service stopped working and was closed"  This appears multiple times in a day.  I do not necessarily see any effect of it but it is definitely new and constant.  I do not know what triggers it - it just appears without any consistency.  I have searched the web, but there is nothing that references  Execution Services which is weird since it must be a Windows service that people would talk about - or is it a virus?  So I have not been able to troubleshoot it without any guidance.

2.  Constant High Usage of CPU.  According to Windows Task Manager and Windows Resource Monitor, the CPU is always showing usage of about 55 to 60% as a minimum - never goes lower.  The "Image" list in Resource Manager for the CPU never shows what service is using it.  Up to this point, I could always add up the CPU amount shown and they would equal the total number shown.  Now, frequently there is little to no CPU usage while at the same time the total shows 55-60.  I have discussed this with the Microsoft Community.  It seems there is an issue with Windows Update service hogging 50% of the CPU while updating.  It seems this is not my problem since I have gotten update... I just bought a notebook Lenovo G450 and I had drivers not found problem. My OS is Windows XP SP2. In Device Manager, there are four "Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus" device with exclamation mark. Below is the link to the screenshot of my device manager (pardon me, you have copy-paste the link manually since my post count is still below 5 so I cannot post link/image here):

There is no sound problem since I had successfully installed the sound driver from lenovo (The name is "Conexant High Definition SmartAudio 221" as you can see on the screenshot above) and the sound is working without problem. I also had installed Microsoft UAA Bus Driver before installing the sound driver.

I had tried installing realtek and nvidia high definition audio driver and all required drivers from lenovo (http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/en/DriversDownloads/drivers_list.aspx?CategoryID=370748), but still no avail. The four yellow exclamation marks is still exist.

So I need help to identify what actually are the devices that shown as "Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus"? And where can I get the driver for that devices?

These are the device IDs:

A:Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus driver not found on Lenovo G450

I'd advise you should first upgrade to SP3. Then report back if you still have the problem and can proceed from there

A:audio problem when earphone/head phone is connected to 3.5mm audio jack

Test by switching between the Realtek audio driver and the Windows native audio driver.
1. Open the Device Manager (find it in the Control Panel, or type devmgmt.msc into the search box).2. Expand the "Sound, video & game controllers" and right click on "Realtek High Definition Audio".3. Select to "Update Driver Software".4. Click on "Browse my computer for driver software".5. Click "Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer".6. Put a check in the box "Show compatible hardware" if not already checked.7. In the list of devices, click "High Definition Audio" (the native driver).8. Click "Next".9. On the Update Driver Warning box, click "Yes" (install the driver). 10. Restart the laptop if prompted. If not prompted, then no need to restart.[To get back to the Realtek driver, do it again but reverse the names in steps 2 and 7.]
If it still does not work correctly when the native driver is installed, then the hardware in the headphone jack has failed.
But if the same problem is there with the native driver then you should install a different version of the Realtek driver. I might be able to direct you to one but would need to know which operating system you are using.

My front USB slots work and every connector on the rear works fine yet when
i plug headphones into the front audio jack and nothing is detected.

My Bios are updated to the latest version, i have also tried switching to AC97 but makes no difference. Swapping between HDMI and s/pdif doesn't also does nothing.

The case is a fairly cheap case being a SHAW GT-M2 although it is new.

I have a dual boot of Windows 7 and OSX Lion the front doesn't work with either.

All drivers are up to date with no yellow ! in device manager

A:No front Panel audio detected but Rear Audio works on Asus P8H 61-M LX

Check to make sure that the front panel audio cable is actually plugged into the audio header on the motherboard. If the motherboard has HD audio and the front panel has a plug marked HD-Audio, then plug that into the motherboard. Make sure that it is correctly lined up, otherwise the front panel won't work correctly.

Just reinstalled windows xp. Reinstalled all my drivers, but I'm not sure what this "audio device on high definition audio bus" driver is; that device driver has put that yellow question mark next to. I've looked and looked on Google, it seems some people have fixed with video card drivers, others, motherboard drivers. I'm using a fatality pro soundblaster card.

I've tried to download the audio drivers for the maximus formula, but I believe this goes to the sound card that comes with the mobo, which I am not using. When I try to install, it says that it doesn't match my hardware, and aborts.

I have also disabled on-board sound or the equivalent thereof for this board, in BIOS.

My chipset is X38, and my SB is 82801IR (ICH9R).

Also, if it helps, the device instance id is:

Oh, and thanks!!!

A:audio device on high definition audio bus -- ASUS Maximus Formula

Are you getting sound through the sound card? Did you install the drivers to the sound card? Try to enable on-board and see if you get sound from the card? After you enable on-board, install drivers for it, then go back and disable it so it might shut up.

Hello

I am new to this forum. I have searched for related problems here but did not find anything relevant, my apologies if this is a duplicate. What follows is a copy of a message sent to VIA (in Taiwan apparently):

I seem to be having some issues with your VIA High Definition Audo drivers in an Asus K60IJ-series laptop (purchased in 2010). The driver version is 6.0.1.7333 dated 09/07/2009. It works fine on its own but when I try to add an external audio device to the system, I run into problems:

- I was not able to make a Toshiba Bluetooth Stack (driving a Kensington K33902 dongle) produce any audio: Windows will not let me set the bluetooth-connected external audio device (Logitech Bluetooth Audio Adapter, provides no Win7 drivers) as a default device while you drivers are installed. If I remove your drivers and allow Windows to install its default drivers instead, I can now choose the Bluetooth device as default but still get no audio out of it, nor out of your VIA audio chipset either (it seems the generic Windows drivers are not compatible with your chipset).

- Am having similar problems with a Creative Digital HS-1200 bluetooth headset: the headset is automatically set as default when the Bluetooth interface is plugged into USB port, but the default can't be changed, and Windows Media Player complains that there are no audio drivers for it (it appears OK under Device Manager)... YouTube continues to play through the VIA despite. The headset works fine on a... Read more

A:Laptop audio problems possibly involving built in VIA High Def Audio

Hello sybernut mate this is the site where you need to go to get drivers the Windows feature is not something I am a fan of and find it is far better to get the drivers straight form the machine's manufacturers site or the device in side the machine site.
http://support.asus.com/download.aspx?SLanguage=en&m=K60IJ&os=17 - in the manual section it tells you how to set up Blu tooth stuff. The drivers are all there - I am linking to the Asus K60IJ notebook form your specs.

Now if you want in depth details of the components see this
Using HW Info
PART A:
You can test the volts on the PSU with HW Info HWiNFO, HWiNFO32/64 - Download < download the right bit version and close the right hand window select Sensors and scroll down to the power section where you will see what the volts are doing see my pic.
The original right hand window shows the machine running and is handy for that but for looking at the components in some detail close it and use the main left hand side panel
FOR OTHER COMPONENTS
PART B:
Open each small square with + in it on the section the components are in and then click on the individual component/s (it will highlight in blue) - in the right hand side will appear all sorts of details including brands speeds and other essential info that particular device. See pic for example.
Use Part B: (see pic for an example - I have shown you my RAM you need to click on one of the +'s until you find the Blu tooth info probably Network)
