This is getting a little bit outside of the realm of computers, but I thought I would give it a go to see if I could get some suggestions.
I have a Epson powerlite 1945W projector connected wirelessly to a Dell Inspiron Desktop. The dell has the 64 bit operating system and is running Windows 10. The desktop is connected to a sound mixer.
The problem I am having is as follows. When I am not connected to the projector I can run the sound through the sound board. However, once connected to the Epson projector the sound will not go trough the sound board at all. The only option it gives me is to connect to the speaker that is built into the projector itself. I cannot show a video on the projector and have the sound go through my sound mixer.
Any suggestions? I tried disabling the Epson projector speakers but that doesn't help.
I have a rather harmless question concerning an odd problem that has been occurring with the headphone jack on my Dell Latitude laptop. When I start up the computer and want to use the headphones, it works perfectly fine. I can even choose between using the speakers or the headphones interchangeably. However, the issues come in when I receive communication from microphones on other computers. For instance, when playing in an online game, the headphones will work until somebody says something using a microphone through the voice chat client. At this point, all sound exits the headphones and comes out of the speakers regardless of whether the headphones are still plugged in or not.
I can make a quick fix by restarting the computer, but then the cycle begins again. Like I said, it's a pretty harmless problem. Thanks ahead of time.
I have an Inspiron 660 desktop that I bought about 3.5 years ago. I updated to Windows 10 and have recently started using a Dell U2415 UltraSharp Monitor. The sound bar was working well with the new monitor and desktop until about a week ago I noticed the sound started getting low, then completely out, then came back on like normal. It worked fine for the last week, then it started doing it again today and now completely no sound. I have tried headphones and two different Dell sound bars and the sound doesn't work on any of them. I have looked at settings and device manager and it says the 'Intel (R) Display Audio' is working correctly.
I have looked at different solutions, including downloaded the latest audio (Conexant Smart Audio Driver) and chip driver updates (12/15) and still no luck. Can someone please help?
Everytime I reboot the computer, skype (since it launches at start up) tells me that there are no sound devices. I go to the device manager, but the sound device is listed. It doesn't work though. I try winamp/wmp etc, no sound. So I do a uninstall, and redetect and its all good.
Now if I reboot the computer, I have to repeat this whole process. Now, I thought this had something to do with the onboard audio, so I diabled that in the Bios, and added a pci sound card, but the same thing happened.
Does anyone know whats going on??
This computer also has issues with WinXP sp2s firewall. I can't turn it on, but thats an issue for some other thread..
Did the problem start after installing skype or was it there before?
Not come across one like this in the 18 or so months I have been qualified and actively repairing pcs so wondering if somebody could assist me please ?
I have a customers Dell D610 Laptop at the moment as a week after me going round to update her paid Antivirus (Bitdefender 2011 to 2012 Edition), she contacted me to say her she was getting no sound.
I went to collect it and when I asked her whether she had done anything different on the pc, she said she had done a cleanup scan and also scanned the registry for issues using CCleaner. I asked if she had backed it up before doing the scan and she said no !!
I brought the laptop home and ran a few virus and malware scans as the pc seemed quite slow using Malwarebytes, Superantispyware and A Squared but all came back clear.
Checked the device manager and the following Sound, Video and Game controllers have yellow exclamation marks in front of them:-
Legacy Audio Drivers
Legacy Video Capture Drivers
Media Control Devices
Microsoft Kernel Acoustic Echo Canceller
Microsoft Kernel Audio Splitter
Microsoft Kernel DLS Synthesizer
Microsoft Kernel DRM Audio Descrambler
Microsoft Kernel GS Wavetable Synthesizer
Microsoft Kernel Wave Audio Mixer
Microsoft WINMN WDM Audio Compatibility Driver
Sigmatel C-Major Audio
So I would have thought this would be an issue with the Sigmatel audio driver so:-
I have checked the Virus vault in Bitdefender just to make sure it hasn't accidentally ... Read more
Appears to me that you have a number of XP sound files...which are not installed...as well as the Sigmatel audio controller.
<<I have done a repair install with the XP cd and that has made no difference>>
That should have eliminated the absent Microsoft files, which certainly would be necessary before installing the Sigmatel drivers, IMO.
If you replaced the hard drive and encountered no problems...it would seem that the finger points to the hard drive or the partition structure on the troublesome hard drive.
Did you try running the XP Sound Troubleshooter?
I recently purchased a Dell XPS 15 9550 and I love it. The speakers work well, I set defaults proper;y, etc. etc.
However, I have a 5.1 Logitech surround system. plugged into a usb soundcard (vantec 7.1) and while there is sound coming from my speakers, it is only from the front two speakers, essentially stereo sound. In the soundcard software, I can test each speaker individually, and they are all working and outputting sound when tested through its own software (each speaker will say its name and position within the 5.1 setup). When I play other audio, such as YouTube, or any other website, or audio file, it only plays from two (out of 6) speakers.
The Dell audio manager is no help, I mute the realtek speakers and microphone and it still plays from two speakers of my system. I try to change the "speaker setup" in the Dell audio manager to anything but stereo, and the drop down menu refuses to open, so there is nothing for me to really click on. I tried reinstalling the drivers to no avail.
Does anyone know of a fix?
First off, hello to everyone.
A friend of my dads, his computer had been infected with spyware or viruses or something and he had it taken care of by some other group of people (I do not know who he asked to help resolve the issue), and he said that he is no longer getting sounds from it.
I did some looking around at his request and noticed there was a few other errors and things wrong.
Needless to say, now I am just stuck on aspects of trying to resolve the PCI Card error which is displayed as a Yallow ? on the device drivers page. I did some searching around, went to Dells Support page, and tried both of the audio drivers as well as the COnexant PCI card drivers it mentioned, but nothing seems to be working.
It makes me wonder. If they indeed formatted and had to reinstall the OS, could it be possible they installed things in the wrong order?
He has a Windows XP Home Premium Computer. It is Service Pack 3 as well. It is known as a Dell Vostro 200. He still has the Driver Cds that came with it, and it seems to mention the PCI card could be some form of communications modem. But, I get the feeling that is not the case as he is not getting sound, so I assume it could be something more.
I tried installing the Conexant Drivers, as well as the Creative Labs and Realtek Audio drivers as well for it, but unfortunatly, nothing seems to work.
Could it be possible that I may need to format the computer, install the Windows OS, then the Core Drivers and then the individual driv... Read more
What is this "PCI card error" that you refer to?
FWIW: There is no order to install drivers.
If there is a device reflected in Device Manager as requiring drivers...I would simply insert the original drivers CD and allow it to self-install, rather than manually trying to install random drivers.
The Dell drivers for that system can be downloaded from the Dell website, if you choose not to use the Dell CD.
OOPS..... Ive been trying to get Ensoniq Mixer off my computer for months. I finally got some help thru this forum.. THX!!! I deleted Creative via add/delete programs. Finally Ensoniq is permanently removed. However, I have now lost my sound card to my computer. I looked in the recycle bin and cannot find it to restore. Any idea how to get my soundcard back ? Disk, website, etc.

I am new to this board and want to say hello, first off. Now for the reason I am here in the first place. I have no computer sound! I recently reformatted my computer and installed Windows XP Pro. Everything works great except my speakers! I have no startup sounds and no sounds period. I have searched the web over and over, trying to figure out the problem. I have had very little luck so far.
Here is what my computer is doing. When I got to Start>Accessories> Entertainment>Volume Control i get a message telling me...
" There are no active mixer devices available. To install mixer devices, go to Control Panel, click Printers and Other Hardware, and click Add Hardware...
This program will now close"
I have all my specs' listed in my profile for help. If there is any information that is missing that needs to be known to help figure out the problem, please let me know.
Hi sloppyjoe and welcome
look under audio
I'm so so sick to death of this. Microphone won't work at all. The plugin for the headphones works SOMETIMES. Right now it's not. It's a good system so I'm thinking it's the Creative drivers which are up to date. It's an Audigy card.
Not sure what other info will be needed.
I'm running 8.1 currently updated.
PS. If you need my system specs they are filled out, so click on the "my specs" link at the bottom of my post.
I would check the connections from the motherboard to the front panel. Unlike the rear connections that are part of the motherboard, you have cables running from the motherboard to your front panel. According to your user manual, the connection is the F11 connection at the bottom. Make sure the pins haven't come loose.18 more replies
Hallo!I purchased a Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop 3 months ago.Approximately one month ago , the laptop clock started malfunctioning.Whenever I switch off the machine for a few hours e.g. during nighttime when I sleep, the timer shown is way ahead when I switch it on.For instance,if I switch my machine at 11 pm when I set computer clock to 11pm,when I wake up in the morning at 9 am,the computer clock shows 12.30 pm on the same day.The timer moves more ahead whenever I switch it off.Even after I re-set the clock, the same problem will manifest itself when I switch it off.Is this a software or hardware problem and how can I fix this?
Also I am curious concerning the best way to enable laptop battery have a longer life.Should one (option 1)always connect the laptop to the main power whenever one has access to the mains power even if the battery is full or should one (option2)fully charge the battery, disconnect the laptop from main power and use the battery charge and then wait for battery power to get finished so that one can then re-charge battey using main power?Which is the better option?
Please respond to my queries as soon as possible and I shall be infinitely grateful. Thanks in advance.

Paragraph 2. Leave the power in with the battery in
Hey all. I got a new laptop and it uses windows 10. My goodness things on windows 10 is a lot different than 7 and not in a good way.
First off, i tried to connect external Monitor to it. It connects without an issue. With my windows 7 laptop, i use my 24' external monitor as my main display and the laptop screen as the other one. Most of the time, everything is on the main display with nothing on the other screen.
My issue is I can do this... except if i want to drag something to the laptop screen... the laptop is on the left side of the desk, the monitor is on the right, i have to drag it to the right which is the complete opposite of what i want. I could fix this on windows 7 easily which i recall switching the 1 and 2 box. Im having tons of issues with this on this new laptop with windows 10. I did a lot of trial and error and can't fix this. I know its extend display and trial and error doesn't work. The other thing is if you look at the laptop screen, why are there icons and everything else in the taskbar? There should be none of that on the 2nd monitor. So why is it there?
The other thing is there is absolute no sound on my external monitor which is my primary monitor. I could fix this on windows 7 very easily. I have no idea how to with this.
Also when i click on a picture, with windows 7, you could just use the scroll mouse on the mouse to get a larger image of the picture. On windows 10, all that does is go to the next picture etc.... Read more
Doesn't the windows key + P allow you to toggle through display options? And I believe if you right click on the desktop and select Display settings/Advanced Display Settings will get you where you need to be to switch screen orientation.
Could be wrong.
ps this is the Windows 7 forum not Windows 10, just saying
I'm new to the forum and have had the below issue for about a week now.
I've been looking for solutions in this forum and online but nothing worked or matched the symptoms.
Symptoms are :
The computer when powered up does not start,
Screen remains black,
Touch sounds buttons mute and raise volume blink in unison,
Lower sound button remain on,
This is for a Dell Studio 1535 I have had for 7 years. Running windows 8 for 4/5 months now.
I have tried : A solution by Krypebud posted here 6 years ago : which was to download the firmware ISO I and reboot the computer. This did not work.
I have also checked that the screen does not work on a second monitor : it does not.
Additionally I have tried the LCD BIST test which works fine, no distortions, colours all seem fine.
Would anyone know needs to be done here ? (apart from buying a new laptop)
Please be simple in your explanations I have very little knowledge of computers, assume I have no idea about anything.
Thanks in advance for your help,
There are 3 sound buttons in a row. Which one remains on? The first one while the other 2 blink?
I am hoping one of you geniuses (I am *not* using this sarcastically!!!!) are able to help me. I downloaded IE7 and it was working okay for a while. Now, whenever I try to load it, it just sits there with a blank screen (meanwhile, Firefox is fine). I use a wireless connection at my university. On top of that, my startup on my laptop is REALLY slow...and more and more often, for some reason, the sound is simply turned off and cannot be enabled again. I periodically run Spybot and have Norton Anti-virus installed, though I must admit it is a few months out of date becuase my subscription ran out. does someone knows about this issue?
means as well te delivery for thoose ones is not possible due several Quality reasons
heard that since april16 this issue is common public at DELL?
We're encountering scrolling issues with Excel 2013 (and 2016).
What we mean by that is graphic distortions (blocks of black) appearing on the worksheet during the scroll action.
It happens almost exclusively on the externally attached monitor.
Even after the scrolling action is finished the blocks of blacks will persist and will obscure the data in the cells. Generally only opening the worksheet anew will correct the issue (until scrolling is once again initiated)
This is on a new Dell XPS 15 (9550) running Windows 10.The monitor is a Dell U2717D connected via the HDMI.
We've done quite a bit of troubleshooting but before describing in detail we wanted to know if anybody had seen something similar?
i have just purchased a DELL Inspiron 15 5000 SERIES - 5559 with Windows 10 Pro pre-installed in Spanish. I have also purchased a DELL 24" additional screen SE2416H.
Whilst watching live internet broadcasts (TV, Youtube etc.) on Chrome, Edge or Firefox, as soon as I connect the screen to the laptop by HDMI cable, the sound on my laptop speakers disappears. Upon disconnection of the HDMI screen cable, the sound re-appears.
However, the sound doesn't disappear when using other sound applications such as Skype.
This means I can't enjoy watching internet TV with sound on the 24" screen.
Please advise how to fix this as the main point of purchasing the 24" screen was precisely to be able to watch (and listen to) TV programs.
After connected my dell XPS 13 with Dell 34" ultra monitor via Kensington SD4000 universal docking station. Have video but no sound coming out from my ultra wide monitor. The only sound that I heard was from the XPS laptop. My Laptop's OS is window 10 and I tried to use Chrome and explorer Edge, none of the search engine is able to solve the problem. Moreover, I checked my all connective cables to/from the docking station and it seems fine to me. Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!More replies
How do I configure a Dell 5640 sound bar with surround speakers on a new XPS 2720 with Windows 10 (64)?
I am trying to turn off the speaker enhancements in the preinstalled Dell Audio bloatware, and the program will not let me turn them off. I have clicked the toggle next to the speaker enhancement, but it automatically switches it back on again. I am able to turn off the microphone enhancement, but not the speaker one. Is there anyways that anyone knows how to correct this?
Try refreshing the driver.Open device manager- expand sound video – right click on the audio driver & click on uninstall (do not check the box that says delete driver)Restart the computer & check if you can disable the option. If the issue persists, download audio driver from www.support.dell.com ( enter your service tag) download & install audio driver.2 more replies
Typo on the title, I ment Truemobile 360, NOT 355.
I have an older Dell D400 I'm trying to breath some life back into and I thought I would try out Windows 7.
Well, I got everything working good I think, but the Dell 360 Truemobile bluetooth.
Windows 7 just won't see it. No matter what driver pack I try, it says no bluetooth found. The official Dell Vista pack asks me to turn on the bluetooth but I can't even figure out how to do that, and the light on the laptop is not lit up.
I see dell has this app/patch that it suppose to enable the bluetooth but that also tells me no blue tooth found.
I can't use my bluetooth cellphone as a modem, help please.
That being said, other people have been having the same issue with other laptops, same internal bluetooth and W7 but what worked for them doesn't seem to want to work for me.
On a side note it work's under Windows XP, just not W7.
I opened the computer, removed the BT, rebooted, shut down, reinstalled the BT, rebooted and it's working now.
Thanks anyway I guess.
i have dell xps 15 l501x laptop. from yesterday the from right side speaker is not clear / sub woofer sound fluttering. i tried re-installing audio driver for speaker but it not works. i tried all possible solutions for it but works. is that i have to replace the sub woofer?
please help me.
Hello. Are you talking about the laptop's internal speakers? Or about this that you put in the "tag" field:
"100W 5.1 Surround Speaker System with 5.8 GHz Wireless Rear Channels and Subwoofer"?
It most probably is a hardware issue. If you still have the original hard drive and if it has never been wiped, you can run the audio tests in Dell 32-bit Diagnostics. Other than that the only good test is to replace the bad speakers and see if that fixes it, or do a system recovery. If the recovery does not fix it then it is because of bad hardware.
I was hoping someone could help me. Bought this used D630 and can't get any sound.
Sigmatel 9205 sound but no sound anywhere, headphones, speakers, from web or CD drive. Plays vidio's without sound. Can't figure it. Have new windows 7 ultimate working well on this machine.
I have a Dell desktop that is not getting sound out of the speakers but I do get sound out of the headphones when I plug the headphones into the computer not the speckers.
Anybody have a idea what is wrong?

This started last night, the only thing that I did that was out of the ordinary was ran Avast's thourough scan fully, but even after that my sound worked, so it didnt delete the driver to my knowlege, but when I do a dxdiag and look at my audio, it doesn't exist, there is no sound card installed, and allI use is my DFI Lan Party UT RDX200 CF-DR mother boards on board sound. I tried installing the driver again fom DFI and to no success, now when I went to install the drive again, I got an error saying that this device isnt approved by Windows, could windows be preventing my audio card from working?

I'm not sure if this is all part of the same problem but there are multiple things going on. On my laptop ( its an HP Pavilion DV6, with an intel core i3 CPU @ 2.20ghz, & 64 but operating system ) The only way i can get any sound to play is if I watch videos in my firefox browser. No sound will play when i use Chrome (which I prefer) or Itunes, or windows media player. The problem with watching videos in firefox is that there is about a 20 second delay before the video will play, and an error comes up to stop the plug in or continue. If you close out of that box the video will play but you will get the same delay every time it is paused and started again. Browsing in Chrome and playing videos from that browser there is absolutely no lag, its lightening fast, but you will not get any sound. Other simple programs ( Like solitaire) have the same lag, each card you click takes about 20 seconds for the move to actually take place. I've tried messing with my sound drivers to correct the audio issues but I am not sure if it is an audio issue, a flash player issue, or a combination. Any input?More replies

1)I'm having issues with my speakers not cutting off when I connect my headphones to them. The speakers are the Klipsch Pro Media 2.1 PC set, and I have tried two different sets of headphones, plus the sound is full of static and buzzing. I've also tried re-installing/updating my onboard sound driver, but that doesn't help. I do notice that when I connect my headphones to the speakers that the sound emitted from the speaker will lower by 25% but will not fully cut off. I'm also having issues with the front panel headphone jack on my computer case (Antec 1200 V3). The sound coming out of the headphones when connected to the front panel is filled with static and buzzing. I have tried re-grounding the front panel ground connector, but that didn't change anything. However, if I connect the headphones directly to the back of the computer, the sound works fine.
2)When watching Youtube videos each video has a hard time buffering. My speed is at 10 Mbps and it registers at that speed when I do a speedtest, plus all other websites work fine, it's just Youtube that I'm having a problem with. I've cleared the cache and tried using a different browser, but nothing helps.
I have also ran Malwarebytes AntiMalware, SUPERAntiSpyware, neither yielded any harmful results.
Any help would be appreciated.
The short version of my question is exactly what the topic says-- Can I install a Dell-provided OEM version of Vista on a non-Dell computer?
But, here's the wordier version giving context, if anyone's interested.
About 10 months ago, I guess, I got a Dell Vostro that came with Windows Vista Home Basic. However, I had no interest in Vista (because I already had a Windows machine) and the very first thing I did was install Ubuntu on it. I still have the Vista reinstall disk, though, which, to my memory, hasn't been used.
Now I'm planning on getting a barebones system and upgrading what I see fit. For the time being, I'm going to use the Windows 7 RC, but I'd like to get the uber-great upgrade deal that they're having to pre-order either the Business or Home Premium version upgrade. So, to do that, I'd need an XP installation or a Vista installation. Is there any reason, legal or software-related, that I wouldn't be able to install Vista using that disk that came with the Vostro?
I heard somewhere that sometimes if you try, it'll say something like "This is not a Dell computer, you evil, evil person" and refuse to install, so I wanted to make sure before I pre-ordered the upgrade. I don't want to get the upgrade and have nothing to upgrade, of course.

So over the past 2-3 weeks I kept noticing that my battery kept dying even though I would shut it down (yes window > shutdown) the computer with a full battery. The next evening I would power up and see that the battery was at 20% from full charge. This is a BRAND NEW as in <2 months XPS 9550. I checked my event log and WHAT THE H@#$??? It is absolutely filled with Dell Foundation Service and Dell Product Registration events all saying " Power event Handled Successfully by the service." Clearly it is not.. The stupid things run every 10 seconds. So when I think I am powering down my computer, it is being blocked by these services and actually just going to sleep... but it actually isn't sleeping. Its waking up every 10 seconds. Can anyone PLEASE help me determine the issue. Apparently according to update service everything is up to date.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1520 laptop with Windows Vista OS. I have a Dell 926 printer interfaced to it via USB. Printer driver is installed and the printer does communicate at times with the computer and does a good job printing. However, intermittently when trying to print a document I'll get a message on the computer that says that communication has been lost and print job failed.
I've checked all connections to make sure they are solid and no debris that might cause this.
That has not corrected the problem.
The other thing that happens is that the document I want to print will stay in the print queue/spooler and if I shut the computer and printer down and restart both it will print the job. And it may continue to print jobs but it's just a matter of time.
Needless to say this is frustrating. I can print several jobs in a row with no problem and then I'll get this "communication has been lost between printer and computer". And I have to go thru the procedure above to get the last job printed.
My wife doesn't understand how this works and will try to print the same job several times with the commo problem and then complains when it won't print.....and then they all print when the above procedure is followed.
Any ideas what is going on??? Any fixes??
Two months ago bought a Dell 8900 from Best Buy. After 20 days, it would not start, same with the next 8900 replacement... only fewer days. The first gameware as a replacement did not start at all. The Alienware Aurora worked beautifully for 3 days and then would not start. In the 8900's,,, got the blinking amber lights on the start button. Tech is coming to replace motherboard. What the heck is happening? Could it be the monitor... or the external hard drive or what? Come on Dell,,, what's up? I have a Dell XP Laptop as a back up using the same external hard ddrive.

I've seen this happen with the games I play recently. For example, in games like Battlefield 1942 and Black and White 2, some places showed "straight lines" from objects. At the top of the 3d static object in question, the straight lines go from there to the sky. There seems to be no end to that unless I get really close to that object.
As for the sound problem, I'm hearing static occur at random occasions. Any way to fix these?

Ok,Here is the issue with this sound card. First off it's a nice Diamond (great cards) Xtreme Sound 5.1. The problem I have with it is it's affected by certain videos. Youtube it plays fine.....until you go into Full Screen mode, then it's garbled...you can't make it out what anyone is saying during play back in F\S mode. Another problem I have is Encoding videos do the exact same thing!
Last night I downloaded a freeware program that was on my old box called "Panzera mp4 to avi converter 1.3" it's a great program. My Camera uses the Mp4 format and I am not too fond of quicktime just to run that format. The reason I am trying to convert them is to kill the file size and make "nolstalgia" DvD for the family. the Mp4 plays fine however,no sound problems in the original clip.
My video and sound cards are up to date, My video card is a Geforce 8400 GS. Running on a AMD Athlon 64 processor at 2.20 ghz with 1 gb of ddr. Anyone ever had this problem? I tried Divx and Xvid thinking it was a codec problem. boy was I wrong. any suggestions is welcomed.
Update:This isn't really an update but I found out something weird. My video playback with Wmv,Mpeg,Avi,Asf ETC. is always garbled. No matter if it's online or on the computer the playback audio is garbled. What could be causing this. I uninstalled,re-installed Diamond Xtreme soundcard drivers. I installed DirectX9.0c, I have Divx and Xvid codecs. My sound drivers are up to date. I unhooked the onboard sound and uninstalled sound max after buying the Diamond. A friend told me I should disable the onboard sound entirely but I can't find the option in the bios. My mother board is a "Asus A8x socket 939" board. Any helps please? I am desperate!

When I do my shows I have jingles to play etc which I use Media player for. So while Im streaming (with shoutcast) I open a jingle in Mediaplayer & that goes out over the stream aswell as the audio coming from my decks. through line-in
Now since my reinstallation the problem Im having is I cant get the audio from Media Player to go out at the same time as my music from my decks.
Ive fiddled with the audio properties in Windows etc (which Ive never had to do before) and I cant get it working how it was before :
I dont understand whats chnaged since my reinstall.
Any ideas anyone?
If its any help I have an Realteck AC 97 onboard soundcard.
Thanks in advance for any replies.
p.s I have installed the drivers for the soundcard so I dont think its that *thumbsup*
Was given a Dell Optiplex 360 that I found out after getting a nasty virus had a bootleg XP OS
I also did not have any disks with it. I had older disks for a Dell 4600 that I used to wipeout the hard drive and install the new OS. Everything works fine except that I can not load any of the drivers from the second disk, (it was a 3 disk series)
thus at least at this point not able to connect with my cable internet. Cable people told me I needed the drivers.Any suggestions or can it just not be done.
You will have to go to the dell website look under support and then drivers and downloads for your model of computer. If you use the service tag number on the computer it will make sure you get the correct ones you need. For future reference so you wont have this hassle again burn all of the drivers to a cd so you will be all set the next time.
I have a Dell Inspiron 530, XP PRO, SP3, about a year and a half old. Almost since I first got it, every few months or so, when I boot up it hangs on the Dell screen. When I turn it off and reboot, it is fine. I use Rebit to back up everything on an ongoing basis and have an extended warranty from Dell. Is there anything I can do about this, or should do? Thanks for your help.
I would run a memory tester
Download the prebuilt ISO, burn it to CD as an Image, boot from that CD and run the memory test for a couple of hours or overnight to stress test the memory.
ok I have windows XP On Both Off my computers but my other one has a dell monitor and I've tried to get it to work so many times I got lucky I think twice first time it worked but then I shut it off for the night then I had a hard time to get it to work but I finally did and after that I can't get it to work it keeps saying to set it up through the disc drive I think I haven't turned it on for a bit I'll have to check it,
but can anyone help with what I said?

My battery for the above computer has expired and needs to be replaced but I do not know who sells replacement batteries XBT9E1 or compatible ones.
I believe the replacement battery you are after is a CR2032. If in doubt take the flat battery to your electronics store and ask for the equivalent. They're not very expensive.3 more replies
Bought two identical Optiplex 755 for running Minecraft for grandchildren . Bought two ATI Radeon HD 2400 Pro cards to upgrade so that Minecraft would run. One machine accepted the card perfectly no problems but the other refuses to recognise the card. The working machine is Bios A21, the problem machine Bios A22. All other settings in Bios and drivers are identical and both video cards work in the good machine. Lost for ideas? Can anyone help.More replies
I recently made a bet with my friend for some money. He says it's impossible to have an old dimension 2200 case with standard parts in it. I was wondering if anyone here knows about replacing the old dell mobo and psu with newer more standard parts. Is it even possible?
On older dell machines you have to switch BOTH the motherboard and the PSU. then you would have to modify the front panel connectors.
I have a "customer" (lol i love that word)..They have a DELL (ewwwwwwwwww) and they told me it was running "slow" the most common problem. So I took a look at it..this computer is Spyware heaven...i think it may have a few viruses too. But you can't even uninstall the files and spyware, etc from Safe Mode. I'm thinking the best thing to do would be to Re-Format back to the computer was when the first got it. What do all of you think?
what viruses does it have?
Also can you download HiJack This and post the log?
Hello all, not sure if I am posting on the right board but I am in need of some help. I have a Dell XPS 710 that wasnt posting, so I bought a 720 motherboard. I have pulled the RAM, video card, & CPU and put them into other machines and those components work fine. After replacing the motherboard, the 720 has different front panel connectors then the 710 does. However, there is a small button on the motherboard that I am using to turn on the computer.(Small Power Button) When it turns on, the fans spin up then spin slower, it beeps twice, and no video output at all. Disc drives spin a little, and nothing happens. What I was wondering is maybe since the front panel connectors are not plugged in thats why its not posting properly? Is the dell motherboard that picky? If anyone reading this has a XPS 720 motherboard please let me know before I invest more $$ into getting it to run. Thanks
You only need to connect the case power switch to the proper motherboard pins to power up the computer. No other connections are necessary. You should be able to get the hard drive and power LEDs working by removing the wires from the old connector and placing directly on the new motherboard front panel header. Have you made sure that the motherboard is properly installed in the case?
I bought a Dell Inspiron 9400 in sept of last year. A few months ago I started having problems with it charging, with the usb ports working, the speakers stopped working, and the processor would only run at half speed most the time. I sent it in to dell and just got it back yesterday and it still has the same problems except the speaker works now. What happens is sometimes it just doesn't recognize the charger (which I don't understand because they had the computer and the charger, they should've known there was a problem and fixed it) and it'll start up running at only 1ghz instead of 2. Every once in a while it will go back up to 2 ghz but if that happens it sometimes stays but sometimes drops back down, and it always starts up running at 1ghz. Dell claims to have replaced the mobo and the processor, and they said they were going to check the charger (not sure if they actually did it). So, if I have a new mobo and new processor and still have these issues could something else be the problem? Or, does it just sound like dell is full of crap?
Btw, I contacted Dell again and they just told me that I have to use if for a while and then get back to them. But, I don't see how using it is going to miraculously fix the issues.
the first thing I would have done is replace the battery, then the charger.
Alright, for those of you who remember my threads that never get answered, here's another one that hopefully someone can answer.
I've got a Dell Latitude C810 here, its in pretty bad shape but all the display stuff pretty good, one error that I seem to get is when I try to change the screen resolution size to anything below the native 1600x1200 it does change the resolution but it doesn't stretch to the full size of the screen, for example, if I set it on 800x600 it shrinks my display size to exactly 1/2 of the monitor and does help things at all.
The big issue here is gaming, I like to game, and the 32MB card (NVIDIAGO2 something or other) is actually really good for a laptop. However, when I go ingame I have to run the game at something above 1024x768 or else I can't see anything, or end up with my face 2 inches away from the screen trying to see...

We have acquired a Dell Desktop from an Uncle who just got exasperated with how slow the pc is and the amount of freezeups it has. I have run my CA etrust antivirus, spywareblaster, spybot, and pconpoint. I have cleaned out temporary files and deleted cookies, but it's just running terrible, it's frustrating to use. When I try to surf the net, pop ups prevent me from accessing the pages I want to access, then it freezes. The pc speed really slows when this happens.
The hard drive is still under the uncles name, which I would like to change, but I have an administrative access to the pc.
I hope you can help me out on this one!!!

i will be here to help but others may jump in to help also
I'm not too sure where to put this... it started off as a problem connecting to the internet. I live in a three story student apartment building and our landlord has setup a wireless internet. It seems as though most if not all of my roommates have full connection and I usually only get one to three bars and sometimes even then it doesn't work. The past couple nights when I've been using it it would show two bars but it would keep logging me out of msn and the browser wouldn't load so I eventually restarted it. When it loaded back up it went to a black screen saying "JGOPV is compressed Pres Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart" so I did but it keeps going back to that screen. What does that mean and how can I fix it so I can get back on?
I've tried all the startup options I could see.....

I purchased my XPS 27 all in one in March of 2016 and since day one, have had issues. I thought that by now these issues would have been repaired but, I'm continually having issues with this computer lagging and unable to scroll through certain websites like Best Buy or HSN/QVC-it just freezes and I can't scroll down..
The McAfee Anti virus doesn't pick up on Malware-I get these pop ups asking me to contact PC Support-at least once a week I have to restart my computer because it "takes control" over my PC and won't let me do anything but restart...
I'm so disappointed. I have a very busy schedule during certain parts of the year and so now that I have more time for the next couple months, I'm trying to enjoy my new computer but, every day I'm being hassled by one of these problems or more..
It seems like this is a Dell issue-I owned a Dell 10 years ago and recall having the same type of issues. I've used Apple (stolen) and loved it-after that, I had a Toshiba Satellite for 3 years and it never gave me problems and gave it to my nephew when I bought this and he says the Toshiba is still going strong!!
This is a brand new computer, I've hardly downloaded anything on it-don't use it for risky sites or whatever.. This is total *** and I'm *** off because I spent 3k with Dell on this purchase and am NOT happy!!
I just bought a new Dell XPS 15 and I've noticed that the fan is just going unecessarily loud and it's getting really annoying, the laptop isn't even that hot and I don't have any control over it in the BIOS. Every 10 seconds or so, even in normal use, the laptop fan starts going really fast and then stops and starts again. I've tried updating drivers but haven't had any luck, there seem to be quite a lot of people with this problem but there don't seem to be any solutions, any help would be great, thanks.
If it's new, don't mess with it. use your warranty, that's what it's for.
Any decent supplier should exchange it or have Dell take a look at it, without it costing you anything.
Messing with it yourself may invalidate your warranty which you might need if some bigger fault rears it head later on.

Dell XPS 1330 running windows vista 64 bit, 4 g ram, (supposed to be) 320 g harddrive
Oooooooooookkkaaaayy.... well. This is probably all my fault really. I thought I could fix stuff.... turns out I dont actually know what I'm doing and I think I may have made things worse....To start from the begining- In general, I have an issue with the hard drive... When I remove stuff, the hard drive adds gigabytes rather than removing them. It says something like '213 gbs out of 293' and and when I started I KNOW there was way more than that and I've uninstalled all the programs I added (Long story) and cleaned out the hidden files so I know for a fact there is nothing there to take up the space. I want my memory back, grrrar. Anyway...
So I was going through my control panel and deleting bloatware, you know stuff the laptop came with that I dont really need, trying to figure out the affor mentioned problem of memory adding instead of lessening and I removed this thing called 'Microsoft Games for Windows LIVE redistributeable' thinking Oh, thats just some app trying to get me to use games I dont need, lets get rid of it. BIG mistake. After that my games (Fallout 3 and oblivion, to be specific) had issues. Fallout wouldn't start, something about 'xlive.ddl' which I figured must have something to do with the microsoft games whatsit and oblivion seemed to be fine but I decided to uninstall it (just...don't ask....) and I started getting this error- setupdll/setupdll.cpp (390) PAPP:Oblivi... Ha that's precisly my problem with my laptops. It happened with a few of my games, I took the suckers off and it kept on taking space instead of deleting it. I'm in the same boat1 more replies
My Dell GX260 optiplex SFF lost it's sound and its the pc which we are teaching my daughter to use, so it really needs sound to make things more interesting. I downloaded and installed a driver from Dell using the Service Tag number but the sound still did not work but the pc worked fine. Under Hardware Sound, video and game controllers it has :
Legacy audio drivers
Legacy video capture devices
Media control devices
Soundmax integrated digital audio
I am looking in the right place are'nt I or am I going mad?
Service tag is HM31H0J.
Any help appreciated.
I'm going to assume that this is on-board sound. Check the BIOS and make sure it has not been disabled in setup.
If it is not on-board sound (on-board will have the sound connectors near the keyboard, mouse, USB, LAN, etc. connectors), see what make/model sound card is installed. If you look on the Dell Web site, there may be other sound card driver options for your model.
Make sure the cable is plugged into the correct jack. It gets tricky when you have a 5.1 or 7.1 card.
Make sure the speakers work, or try a headset in the speaker jack.
I have a dell dimension and just restored it with the help of some people on here.
now I have some new speakers and I cant get them to work.
It says the drivers for audio are installed .. but when I go to properties for the sound system it says there is no audio device... and all the setting such as device settings and speaker settings are gray so that they cannot be set... help

I have Dell XPS 13 with windows 10. after 6 months of using the sound driver stopped working.
it's says "no audio driver detected". I have tried uninstalling, and re-installing new drivers.
Diagnostic check in the BIOS is OK. I have updated the BIOS version and the sound has returned, but after another restart it's gone again.
I have a Dell Dimension E510 with Windows XP (SP3). Recently the audio stopped working. I get no sound from my speakers (SB Audigy 2 ZS sound card and Altec Lansing speakers) or from my headphones using the jack on the system unit itself. It doesn?t matter what audio source I use: CD?s, YouTube, Pandora, etc. Device Manager lists my sound card. I ran something called Mr. Fixit from Microsoft and it said there was nothing to fix. All my volume controls (and there are several) are set at mid point or higher. I updated the BIOS and that did nothing. I tried a system restore to five weeks earlier and it said there was nothing to restore.
I?m out of ideas. What else can I try? Are there other diagnostics I can run? Thanks.
Have you run the Windows Sound Troubleshooter?
Taken a look in Device Manager for indications of problems?
Uninstalled the sound drivers...and then reinstalled them?
I have the same problem, except that I run a dell Inspiron 530 on XP PRo, and I stopped getting sounnd after installing a Windows update. Wich update? I coudn't tell under torture!!! I have "audio Int?gr?" (dell #3132758), and also a Realteck sound for complex audio effects that I dont need nor like. I made all the Windows recommended checks, up to checking the BIOS, and everywhere, the diagnostic was "This device is working properly" or something like that... Pleeeeeease HELP !!!
NB: I have no sound at all, not in Windows Media more than anywhere else, no system sounds... I do see a color bar moving up and down when I perform the windows recommended tests, but no sound. I can hear sound produced by connection being made when I unplug or plug the speakers, but that's all.
I visited the DELL driver download page and found an update for my Realteck audio, but it says it's for Vista, so I'm not sure I should install it... On the other hand, I think thatI've read in the details for a recent Windows update that it would make my system more compatible with Vista or Vista capabilities...
Can someone help?
so i have a dell dimension e520 desktop , and my sound seems to be lost , when i go to
start - > all programs -> accessories ->entertainment -> volume control it says
There are no active mixer devices available. To install mixer device, go to Control panel, click Printers and Other Hardware, and then click Add hardware.
this program will now close.
and there is no speaker icon in the list next to the clock.
control panel - sound - all of the options are gray
i thought it was the onboard audio card , so today i bought one , and still there are no changes .
Have you tried going to the device manager and see if theres any yellow question marks under audio?Im going to guess that you are missing the audio drivers. You can get the correct drivers for that model by going to dell support drivers and downloads and use your service tag and it should give you all the correct ones needed.
I have a GX620 and l installed window 7 and now no sound Help.
Dell does not support Vista/Win7/Win8 on this model. XP is the latest OS. The sound in the GX620, ADI, is obsolete and apparently not supported by Win 7 and the generic basic function HD Audio Codec. Windows XP drivers are not compatible as Vista/Win7/Win8 handle some sound functions differently. You will probably have to do what others with Dell's that are not supported have done, install a PCI sound card that is compatible.
I used to do a lot of support on the Dell forums and that's what users were doing with incompatible systems.
dimension 2300 has no sound. says no audio divice found. Problem started after upgrade to xp home. can this be fixed without inserting another sound card ?
If you previously had another operating system you will need the xp driver for your onboard sound. See if this is what you need
I have a Dell laptop running Windows 7. I have lost the sound probably from changing some of the functions in Windows task manager. I get the message Audio services are not running. One of the following services are not running- Windows Audio and WIndows Audio End Point Builder. I have two audio drivers installed Intel Display and Realtek HD audio. Neither one of these appears to be the original audio card that came installed on the computer. I do not know what to do. Bill
Bll_lutherNeither one of these appears to be the original audio card that came installed on the computer.
Hello Bill. Realtek HD Audio is the audio chip on the motherboard, and the name of its associated driver.
Intel Display Audio is the name of the driver associated with the Intel graphics that is integrated into the Intel cpu. That driver is for the HDMI audio when the laptop is connected to a tv with an HDMI cable. Your laptop might also have nVidia discrete graphics in addition to the Intel graphics.
Bll_lutherI get the message Audio services are not running. One of the following services are not running- Windows Audio and WIndows Audio End Point Builder.
Go to Start and type "services.msc" in the Windows search box, then hit the 'Enter' key (or click 'ok'). The Services window will appear. Scroll down until you find "Windows Audio End Point Builder" and "Windows Audio" towards the bottom of the list. Check that they are enabled, set to automatic, and running. If not, double click and change the Startup type to Automatic, then click Start, Apply, and OK.
It might not hurt also to re-install the audio driver. Doing that will reset its settings to their default positions. To re-install the audio driver, open the Device Manager (find it in the Control Panel, or type devmgmt.msc into the search box) and find the Realtek audio driver under Sound...Controllers. Right click on it then click "uninstall&... Read more
Well basically my dell xps m1530 notebook was placed underneath the fish tank on a shelf, the fish tank leaked and i had a puddle on the lid and water running down the hinge on the lid. It now will not turn on. I took it to a tech guy and he said the motherboard is gone and it wont power up when turned on. I basically want to know if i replace the motherboard does it also mean i need to replace the cpu, memory, and graphics card. I am not familiar with what is where on the inside. Was kinda hoping i wouldnt need to. finger crossed. ADVICE PLEASE ANYONE!!!!! HELP
You didn't happen to get a warranty on it did you? the three years covers accidental damage to a system including water spills.
Got an Inspiron 9300. Having a few different problems with it.
FN+ up/down arrows wont brighten my screen. I have Dell Quickset installed and running but it didnt fix the problem. My LCD is quite dim.
Just ran diagnostics (F12 @ startup) and it found 2 problems:
DST short test failed - apparently a problem with the hard drive, but my system is up and running fine. Not perfect, but ok
LCD inverter detection test failed. - I just replaced my LCD screen. Wondering if I missed something when I installed it or if its driver related. I tried setting the laptop to max performance in the power settings and had no change in the screen.
Wondering if its all just driver issues? Should I start with a fresh copy of XP (have a disk from a friend but no code) or is there an easy way to start over with all new drivers?
No sure on what the next step should be. Thanks.
I have my 25.5" monitor run into my laptop and the picture is perfect. Definitely a problem with the lcd.

I recently updated my desktop machine from Vista to Windows 7. I have been using a Dell 968 to print.
Following the upgrade, when I try to print anything other than a test page, the printer initially gives a status of printing but then this rapidly changes to "Deleting - Printing - Printed" and the job vanished from the queue. I have re-installed the printer driver and gone back to the Vista driver without any success. The printer works fine with my other machine which is newly upgraded to Windows 7 and with a Windows XP machine that I am not upgrading.
I thought this might be a problem with the print spooler but is seems that cleanspl.exe will not work on Windows 7. I have also stopped and re-started the print spooler without any success.
If anyone has any ideas of what I might try next then I would be really grateful.
I am wondering if you ever had a resolution on this issue. I am seeing the same behavior on a Windows 7 machine. Although in this case, the machine and printer were set up 2 years ago and have worked fine till now. The error sequence you are seeing is the same as what I am seeing. I have removed the printer, downloaded the Dell driver, installed and still see the same issues.
Did you get anywhere? Or just buy a new printer...
Okay, so I have a newer dell with WinXP, about a year and a half old.
Every once in a while when i would start it up, it would begin normally: loading the dell logo and startup - but then - right before the log in user screen, it will go to a black screen and just have a little cursor that looks like this: _ blink over and over again. Usually, it would just move past that after a few minutes and load the user log in screen.
But now, it's stuck and won't load anything and I can't get into my computer. It's driving me mad!
I tried, when the dell screen originally first comes on, to press F12 or F2 to reboot it - nothing happens. But, if I press it down a couple times rapidly, a new screen comes up that says "Keyboard failure".
Does anyone ahve any clues as to what this is and how i might be able to move past it in order to get into my computer again?

This way you are guaranteed to start fresh.

Issue 2) When docking the machine, the video keeps reverting to the LCD projector as default.
Anyone else having this issue?
I picked up a pair of Dell 5650 5.1 speakers from a friend to test out (I was planning on purchasing them). My experience with them thus far has been negative and I'm thinking about passing up on the deal. I don't know if I don't have something configured properly, if something is wrong with the speakers, or what . I have an onboard RealTek HD audio card, so I configured the speakers as 5.1. It sounded alright, but not as amazing as how the Windows 7 startup sound did. Disappointed, I called my friend and asked him what I did wrong. We went through the usual (is everything plugged in, etc.) and I verified that all was setup properly. He told me that only music and sounds designed for 5.1 would sound good. He said that I could just leave the configuration as is and that any music/sounds that could be played in 5.1 would automatically do so - all others would play in 2.1. So I switched down to 4.1 because the music still sounded decent, and here is where the problem starts.
The audio will sporadically cut out and become very quiet and play only on the center speaker. It will return to the other speakers but then do the same thing again in a few moments. Based on the reviews of these speakers on Amazon, they are a junk pair. I just wanted to see if I overlooked something silly before I call the deal off.
My Name is Tyler and I have had my dell Inspiron N5010 for less than 6 months and it has been nothing but trouble. I have been getting Countless BSoDs since day one. I have tried to consult with dell technical support many times which finally got me somewhere. They have just replaced the Hard Drive, Motherboard, LCD, and Memory Modules.
Nevertheless, The Blue Screens continue to haunt me. The first time I was Getting Blue screens with
TCPIP.SYS 0X000000D1 BLUE SCREEN (DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL)
Now, I am receiving a whole different message with the blue screen not 30 minutes ago

tried to start up my Dell Inspiron 1520 laptop last night only to be faced with a screen advising that there was no hard drive detected. I ran the diagnostics and after 90 minutes shut down the laptop as it appeared to have frozen.
This morning the laptop started up fine, after half an hour of use it blue screened and then reported the missing hard drive again. After leaving it switched off for an hour it's now working again, but I'm not sure what I need to do to fix this.
Can anyone help please.
Is the time & Date correct or has it reverted back a few years?
If it has reverted it you need to replace the CMOS battery.
A dead CMOS battery could well be the source of your issues.
How old is the laptop?
Running server 2000 with 2 drive shelves connected to a Poweredge 6650. I recently installed 7 more hard drives to max out the drive capacity to 2.1 TB's. When I added the drives, Dell's Array Manager utility helped me fix the drive capacity issue, but windows does not see the space.
Dell's ulitlity shows 1.6 TB but windows shows 800 GB.....
Anyone know why? or how to fix it?
i recently bought a new battery charger for my dell laptop. it worked fine for a week or 2 but now it wont charge my laptop when i plug it in.
i've found that the charger when plugged into the wall outlet isn't turning on because the little green light that is usually lit on the box of the charger isn't lit.
so after finding this out i tried using someone else's charger and it worked for a day and the next day the same problem happened. what's going on? i hope it has doesn't have something to do with my laptop itself. please help!!
First, some chargers need a load for the green light to come on.
If three chargers have died it must be your laptop that is doing it.
I have a Dell desktop, only a few years old, fairly new. It has gone through a cyclone of viruses and it's basically almost impossible to enjoy now.
I keep getting blue screen at random times. I also noticed the Privatize virus lurking around. The internet runs slow and sometimes stops working when it wants to.
I had issues when the router would just basically disable and stop streaming internet every two mins. I need this computer back into great health like it was when it was first bought. Can anyone help? The computer is used to pay bills, tumblr, facebook, etc. We also use frostwire which I think adds on to the issues.

Hey all, I was referred here by my older bro, in the hopes that you can assist me with the following dilemma.
I recently purchased a Dell computer, havind it built to the best of my limited knowledge and finances. Its running on Windows XP and has an onboard 64mb video card and 512mb ddr ram (also, note that I unfortunately DO NOT have an AGP slot, just 3 PCI slots). The following games WILL run on my system as-is:
Starcraft (can't connect to Battle.net though)
Black & White
I have several others, both new and old that will not work on the computer (I won't bother to list them). Now I am considering the purchase of a 128mb video card, powered by Nvidia (ATI has not been good to me in the past). Searching through the net, i found several, but their prices are so varied that I am afraid to purchase any of the less-expensive ones.
What exactly should I be looking for, and why is there such a huge price difference between cards with the same MB stats?

I have a Dell inspiron 11z that was downloading on itunes this afternoon. The laptop then crashed and on reboot would not come on just gave a beeping. If i unplugg the laptop charger and turn on the laptop it beeps once an turns it self off. Where as if i leave it plugged in it beeps in cycles of 7.
Take a look at this page
Move down the page untill you see beep codes, then listen to the beeps your getting and match it on the chart.
If you have the manuel there might be something on beep codes in there.
Another thing you can try is to make sure the RAM is seated properly, it will be behind a small screw off cover on the bottom of the laptop
Only do this if you feel comfortable doing it and unplug it first.

We are having multiple problems with this computer. We called Dell and they basically said we probably have a virus and they would happily sell us a software support package for $250 a year. Can someone help me check? I ran AVG scan an no virus. I ran Malwarebytes and no virus. I ran SuperAntispyware and there was a lot of spyware that it got rid of. I can't turn the sound on. I can turn on windows defender. I can't open the control panel. I can't delete Windows media player which came with the computer even though it is a 32 bit program put on a 64 bit machine. I can't access the Microsoft Store.
Can anyone help with this pig?
On 6/2/16 I purchased a Dell Inspiron 15 7000 2-in-1. Just tonight, for some odd reason, it wouldn't turn on at all. It wasn't dead. I had used it throughout the day without any problems (except my wifi saying there weren't any available networks, so I had to restart it which fixed that issue). Don't think they're related, but just putting that out there.
Anyways, after about 20 minutes trying to turn it on, it finally turned out. It was about 50% charged. I take very good care of this laptop and I'm a bit annoyed this happened. Considering I got this not even a month ago, what could cause this? I paid an additional charge for the 2 year warranty, specifically for reasons like this. Should I take it in and have someone check it out, or was this a minor annoyance? Any feedback would be much appreciated. Thanks.
Thank you for writing to us!
This could be either a software or a hard ware issue.
We would suggest you check if there are any pending updated on the system.Ensure all the drivers are updated and there are no yellow exclamation marks in the device manager.
Also run a complete diagnostics on the system to check if there are any hardware issues.
Kindly private message the service tag and email address.
i have a viewsonic VA800 which worked perfectly with a dell dimension 4300 system on winme. i switched it to a dell dimension 8200 (originally winxp, but i hate xp home so i switched to me) and now i seem to have a big problem with the monitor talking to the computer in the same "language".
the computer updates claim that nvidia geforce3 500ti is the best driver for the job but i never remember having the nvidia desktop manager on the old computer. and if i try to remove the desktop manager, BOOM... i suddenly have no screen to look at.
are there any fixes out there i havent tried, or does anyone know of anything that might help me?
what is happening is that i get a torn screen when i start up the computer or when i bring it out of hibernation or sleep or sometimes even just out of the screen saver. or sometimes just because. it take half an hour for the screen to decide that i am worthy of "seeing" what is on it, and it clears up... after much turning the monitor power off and on.

I have a 2016 Dell XPS 13 9350 Signature Edition laptop purchased about a month ago.
I have recently had a variety of issues, all happening intermittently. There does not seem to be any real pattern to these issues. I am considering returning the laptop, given the frequency of problems. These issues include:
Laptop turns on, with power running, but screen will not light up (especially when opening from sleep/hibernate mode
Laptop turns on, then turns off after 5 seconds
Front LED flashes 1 white, 2 yellow
screen is black the entire time
In the past, I was getting issues with sleep, but I have not seen these issues come up in a week since I updated all my drivers.
Laptop will not sleep when lid is closed (even with the appropriate lid settings), ends up getting very hot in a bag
Laptop will not sleep at all - seems to turn back on right after it enters sleep
Here's my specs:
Dell XPS 9350 Signature Edition with Touch Screen
OS: Windows 10 Education Edition
CPU: Intel Core i7-6500U CPU 2.5 GHz
RAM: 8 GB
You can only return a system for replacement within the first 21 days after shipment (if you purchased from Dell; your reseller may have different policies if you purchased elsewhere), but the mainboard needs to be replaced - if you don't have return privileges with your reseller, contact Dell support to initiate a warranty replacement of the mainboard.2 more replies
I do not know what the proper protocol is in this form. I have several issues, so I will include them here. If you guys think I should start separate threads, just let me know, and I will.
I have a Dell notebook, with 16 GB Ram, Windows 7, 64 bit.
I am not computer technical savvy so please speak as much as possible in layperson terminology directions and explanations.
Here are the issues:
-Videos that play let's say for example on a news site which I believe go through Adobe Flash Player, though I'm not sure, you guys would know better, seem to "bogged down" and the voices not match the mouth moving, and becomes "weird." I have uninstalled and reinstalled Adobe flash player several times. I am getting a "weird" looking screen that I thought might be malware wherein a "funny" looking box appears in the middle of the screen while something is playing asking to allow or not allow Adobe. It did not look legitimate. I did nonetheless eventually click on allow and the videos did play; this happened after reinstalling Adobe flash player. Still not working correctly. I did uninstall and then reinstall Adobe flash player.
-I have RealPlayer installed. There is a Real Player "download this video" option that pops up on the upper right-hand side of videos. I like this feature. I would like to work. I know there are other programs that do this. But, I don't see any reason why this feature should not be working. It did work for me in the past. It currently is not wor... Read more
You don't say what browser you are using and you don't say where you are watching videos. Is it Youtube or someplace else? Regardless, the Real Player downloader doesn't work anymore so you'll have to find something else. I like to use Firefox to download videos and you can try out extensions and see which one you like.18 more replies
My dad is 88 years old. He has a pretty new Dell. He only uses it to access the internet but now every time you try to use Internet Explorer - "cannot display this page" comes up. I downloaded Netscape, and it worked fine for an hour, then exhibited the same problem. The only way to get online is to go to start, search, search the internet, enter a topic, msn will sometimes open (always without an address bar), go to view, toolbars, address bar, drag it down, type in an address - and it works.
Norton, Spyware Stormer and automatic MS updates were all not able to access the internet for their updates. They were all trying to get online with Explorer. The machine was still on service pack one. I've been able to update everything by directing it to msn to get on the net. Also ran registry repair. Norton displays System Status: ATTENTION. I downloaded Ad-aware, but when a scan is attempted a window come up saying "system is shutting down" DCOM Server Process Launcher terminated unexpectedly by NT Authority System. Then the machine restarts. I ran updated Norton and Spyware Stormer and they cleaned up what they could.
He has Verizon, but that checked out fine - good signal strength, can ping sites, etc. Same exact problems happem when connected to my Road Runner.

Let's try this before you do that. you can always relaod XP later. Be sure to back up files you want to keep before you do
Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.
Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that 'Display the contents of system folders' is checked. If you have Windows XP, the search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that 'Search system folders', 'Search hidden files and folders', and 'Search subfolders' are checked.
For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).
Before you do anything else, please create a folder for HijackThis and put it in a permanent folder (like C:\HJT) instead of the desktop. This is required because HijackThis will create backups and we don't want them to be deleted... Read more
For whatever reason, the Dell website WILL NOT load properly on my laptop.
Whenever I try to access it, a "placeholder" page comes up (See Below), but when using a proxy, I can get to Dell's page fine. Would anyone know if this is some sort of spyware screwing with my internet?

I just bought a dell lattitude cp laptop. here's the deal. my uncle is minister of music at a church. there used to be a school there, but it is no longer. they are selling off all the school supplies. they offered the laptop to me but here is the catch: "hard disk #k30k35A8768 - d35b, the system primary HDD, is protected by a user authentication system. you cannot access data on this hard drive without the correct password."
I don't have a password nor does anyone at the church.
i would love to use this for my new business and i hear that someone in techspot can help me....anyone?
Easier and probably cheaper to buy a new hard drive. Did they give you the Dell install discs? One maroon recovery disc, and three or four blue discs including a system tools, Roxio or Nero disc, and Office or Works with install product ID?
Some passwords that often work? password, phone number, name of church, street name, people connected with the pastor or whomever used it first, service tag number off the bottom, pastor's child, etc.

PLEASE CAN SOMEONE TELL ME WHY ALL MY DELL OPTIPLEX 380 COMPUTERS GIVING AMBER LIGHT. I CHANGED THE POWER SUPPLY. THEY ARE ALL NEW COMPUTERS WE WAS PURCHASED LAST YEAR JUNE. CAN SOME ONE HELP ME RESOLVE THIS ISSUES. WHAT CAUSES THAT?
If it's okay, I'd like to ask you some questions regarding this as I want to make sure that we get to the bottom of the problem for you. Some of the questions will ask you to remove components from the system so please make sure that you remove the power cord from the back of the system before attempting these.
1) Switch the system on. Can you tell me if the power button is flashing amber or a solid amber? Please also tell me if you notice any diagnostics LEDs staying lit - these are labelled 1,2,3 and 4 and are near the front headphone sockets
2) Please remove all peripherals at the back of the system and switch the system on. Does this affect the power button LED or diagnostic LEDs
3) Have you added any components to the system e.g. video cards, sound cards etc...
4) Please open the system and remove the following components:
a) Power and data cables from hard drives and optical drivesb) Any PCI/PCI-Express expansion cardsc) All memory from the systemd) The system fan
5) With the above removed, please reconnect the power cord to the back of the system and switch the system on. Please make a note of what happens with the power button LED and the diagnostic LEDs
6) If there are no changes to the power button LED or diagnostic LEDs, please remove the power cord from the back of the system and remove the following components:
a) I/O panel cableb) CMOS battery
7) With the I/O panel cable and CMOS battery removed, please connect the power cord to th... Read more
Dell XPS710 did clean install of Windows 7 x64 from XP. All went well and things worked fine for a while. Decided I wanted to get more out of my x64 machine so decided to upgrade the RAM from 4x1GB to the system max 4x2GB. I originally ordered the wrong RAM (PC2-6400 800Mhz) and when I installed them the system wouldn't even turn on.
Picked up the correct PC2-5300 667Mhz 4x2GB units and after a clean install I put 2x2GB SDRAMs in with 2x1GB original SDRAMS. Machine shows 6.0 GB installed and lists them as 667Mhz and Dual Asymmetric. Everything works fine.
If I installed 4x2GB SDRAMs, the system says 8GB installed but lists them as 800MHz and Dual INTERLEAVED? Won't make it thru startup. Will try to do a repair but nothing works. Go back to 6 or 4 GB and things are fine?
TIA - Stretch
You probably weren't using the 4GB RAM you had to being with. So adding to make it 8GB is a fairly pointless exercise and will not give any noticeable benefit to the machine.
Adjust your bios settings for memory Vdimm (voltage) and timings. Check the Ram maker's page about your specific modules and adjust accordingly for all Ram settings.
This is my second computer that I am having problems with. This computer seemingly has more of an issue than my other computer in that I cannot run the GMER program at all, I can't run the DDS application (it freezes my computer everytime). The only thing I can do is run the defogger.
There is some kind of worm/virus/malware that is causing my system to run inefficiently and with such poor performance as the computer just started acting up. I checked my PC usage and it was at 100% which is extrememly abnormal. Also anytime I open internet explorer, it freezes and has to be shut down and reopened, just for the same thing to happen. (Same with Chrome)
I don't know what to do since the DDS freezes everytime I try to run it, the black screen appearing to be working but never producing any logs and freezing the computer....and the GMER isn't working either. I am typing this from my other computer because the infected PC has the above mentioned browser/internet issues.
I ran antimalware bytes and it said there were no infections found, I'll include the log, also I have AVG2011 for my antivirus. It is noteworthy to say that the desktop Icons are present but do NOT work, I can't click them half the time...I'll have to use the start, computer etc. buttons to get to use the shortcuts.
Please post ANY help, it is greatly appreciated.
