i recently bought a new Dell XPS Q6600 with Windows Vista Home Premium. i am trying to connect to World of Warcraft, but get an error message that says: "unable to connect". i ran a tracert and the connection timed out. i contacted Dell and was told it was a Blizzard (world of warcraft) compatibility problem, but talked to Blizzard and have been told everything is up to date. contacted Dell again, they said it was a security issue, but i have no antivirus installed, nor firewalls other then Windows Firewall. i have access to the internet, but no server or direct connect capabilities other then the ability to retrieve my email from the univeristy server. i have tried cycling the power on the computer, the router and the modem, to no avail. even tried a different game to see if it was really a Blizzard thing, that game also timed out upon attempt to logon to the server. here is my HJT log below. also, im having a problem with a program called Google Toolbar. it loads on startup of internet explorer, and has no way to close, minimize or other wise control it. it is stuck on top of everything else, requiring me to drag it to the side to do anything(such as type this up). if there is a way to permently remove that program, that would be cool too. any help would be appreciated.

I have a dell dimension 4300 using a d-link DWA-125 usb adapter and I'm trying to connect to a MiFi 2200 289D in hot spot mode (not using usb cord). d-link sees the network but wont connect.

tried calling d-link support and was told to change the chanel (from 1 to 6) on the MiFi, but I cant.

Verizon tech has yet to get back to me.

The mifi will connect on a laptop (Vista) and a emachines (XP)

Note: I have tried to use the adapter from the xp machine to connect but the same thing happens. I also used the d-link to connect to a netgear router on channel 1, so I know that it will connect.

I use a Dell 2010 laptop. I have consistently been able to use wifi. On 1 Jan I moved into a new apartment shared with a friend. My friend allows me to use the wifi by sharing the password. My friend's computer is a MacBook. But I cannot access wifi! Why is that? I am able to see the available connections and to see the one that my friend is using. But I am unable to access it. I tried manually adding the new wifi network. It shows up with "limited access" -- it does not enable use of internet.

A:Unable to connect to wifi on a macbook from a dell computer at home

What exactly happens when you detect the network and try to connect?

Please attach a screen shot of the Networks page (don't collapse the Radar, Connection or Signal History) of the Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector. If you need help with that see TSG Posting a Screenshot. FWIW to take screen shots with Windows 7 or Vista I prefer to use the built-in Snipping Tool.

Identify the network if it is not obvious.

Open a (black) Command Prompt window:
Hold the Windows logo key and press r; in the Run box type cmd and click on OK.

I have a new Dell V305 Printer which has Wi-Fi capabilities. We have a large family with two Vista 32bit laptops and two Windows XP laptops. I am wondering if it is possible to connect the printer directly to the wireless network that is set up. There is no ethernet port on the printer so it cannot be plugged into the router, which is up to date. We no longer have a desktop to connect to the printer which would make this much easier.
I have tried searching for the printer with on with my Vista laptop, but it doesnt show up. I know there must be some way to set this up so all of the laptops in the house can wirelessly print a document. Please Help!

My home desktop is connected to a wireless router through AT&T U-verse and it's broadcasting just fine. I can see the name and everything when I try and connect on my laptop but there is always an error that brings me to a troubleshooting screen. I've made sure the password is correct by going to Start-Run, IPCONFIG and then typing my IP address into the address bar in my browser. I dont know what else I can do, I feel like I've tried everything! Help please.

A:Laptop (Win7 Dell Inspiron 1525) won't connect to desktop (XP Dell) wireless router

Sometimes, you need to replace the router.
Sometimes, you can call your service provider and ask them to take a look on line to see if the subscription needs to be refreshed.
But often, all that is needed (despite the fact that it is a lot of work) is to uninstall your existing system, then reboot, and reinstall everything.
You might also find success by looking at your device manager in Windows to see if you have any grey, red, or yellow flags by any related device. That may show you have a permanent hardware failure if you cannot restore it, then you are off to the store or your provider for a new cable modem or router.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1520 laptop with Windows Vista OS. I have a Dell 926 printer interfaced to it via USB. Printer driver is installed and the printer does communicate at times with the computer and does a good job printing. However, intermittently when trying to print a document I'll get a message on the computer that says that communication has been lost and print job failed.

I've checked all connections to make sure they are solid and no debris that might cause this.
That has not corrected the problem.
The other thing that happens is that the document I want to print will stay in the print queue/spooler and if I shut the computer and printer down and restart both it will print the job. And it may continue to print jobs but it's just a matter of time.

Needless to say this is frustrating. I can print several jobs in a row with no problem and then I'll get this "communication has been lost between printer and computer". And I have to go thru the procedure above to get the last job printed.

My wife doesn't understand how this works and will try to print the same job several times with the commo problem and then complains when it won't print.....and then they all print when the above procedure is followed.

Any ideas what is going on??? Any fixes??

So over the past 2-3 weeks I kept noticing that my battery kept dying even though I would shut it down (yes window > shutdown) the computer with a full battery. The next evening I would power up and see that the battery was at 20% from full charge. This is a BRAND NEW as in <2 months XPS 9550. I checked my event log and WHAT THE H@#$??? It is absolutely filled with Dell Foundation Service and Dell Product Registration events all saying  " Power event Handled Successfully by the service." Clearly it is not.. The stupid things run every 10 seconds. So when I think I am powering down my computer, it is being blocked by these services and actually just going to sleep... but it actually isn't sleeping. Its waking up every 10 seconds. Can anyone PLEASE help me determine the issue. Apparently according to update service everything is up to date.

The short version of my question is exactly what the topic says-- Can I install a Dell-provided OEM version of Vista on a non-Dell computer?

But, here's the wordier version giving context, if anyone's interested.

About 10 months ago, I guess, I got a Dell Vostro that came with Windows Vista Home Basic. However, I had no interest in Vista (because I already had a Windows machine) and the very first thing I did was install Ubuntu on it. I still have the Vista reinstall disk, though, which, to my memory, hasn't been used.

Now I'm planning on getting a barebones system and upgrading what I see fit. For the time being, I'm going to use the Windows 7 RC, but I'd like to get the uber-great upgrade deal that they're having to pre-order either the Business or Home Premium version upgrade. So, to do that, I'd need an XP installation or a Vista installation. Is there any reason, legal or software-related, that I wouldn't be able to install Vista using that disk that came with the Vostro?

I heard somewhere that sometimes if you try, it'll say something like "This is not a Dell computer, you evil, evil person" and refuse to install, so I wanted to make sure before I pre-ordered the upgrade. I don't want to get the upgrade and have nothing to upgrade, of course.

Thread title: AOL Dial-Up Suddenly Can't Connect

Hello. My PC hasn't been able to connect with AOL Dial-Up since the other day. The only things that happened out of the oRdinary then were that A. someone in my house downloaded a new video program from a site (which my Website safety program ranked as pale green, it runs from green is safe, yellow is caution, red is danger) and B. While the Internet was still connected, I was running SeaGate Backup and loading data into a backup hard drive.

Sometimes my PC gets clunky when doing mutiple things like that while connected to the Web, and it was getting very slow towards when I had to disconnect the Internet and restart the PC for SeaGate. Once I did that, and I went to re-connect, AOL suddenly... Read more

You did not follow the directions to post a DDS log.
I have moved your post to the Am I Infected forum, since you did not post the DDS log. The data you posted is pretty much useless without the DDS log data or the ComboFix logs.

Two months ago bought a Dell 8900 from Best Buy. After 20 days, it would not start, same with the next 8900 replacement... only fewer days. The first gameware as a replacement did not start at all. The Alienware Aurora worked beautifully for 3 days and then would not start. In the 8900's,,, got the blinking amber lights on the start button. Tech is coming to replace motherboard. What the heck is happening? Could it be the monitor... or the external hard drive or what? Come on Dell,,, what's up? I have a Dell XP Laptop as a back up using the same external hard ddrive.

I bought a new Dell computer and then got another brand new dell that they replaced for free because they thought something was wrong with it. I returned that one and bought a brand new HP that i still have currently, all have/had Windows VISTA...

After being on the phone for hours and hours with Microsoft, Comcast and Dell, there still hasnt been anyone that can resolve the issues...

I have a Motorola modem thats connect by ethernet cable to a D-Link wireless router, but is only used as a medium to connect multiple computers to that motorola router through ethernet cables.

The connection is good given that i'm typing from my old computer with Windows XP. Plug and play and the internet works no issues.

Can this be an issue with the Modem or D-link router? Ethenet Cable? I can not think of anything else and with the Dell computer(s), microsoft and dell tried everything physically possible to try to un-install Vista, do this and do that with everything. Comcast did say that all their modems are Vista friendly and i even tried directly plugging the ethernet cable from the modem to the computer, bypassing the router and that didnt work. One comment that was made was that i had a bad IP address, which they tried to fix and that didnt work either. Please someone help me! Or im going to have to go with a brand new computer that has XP and not Vista. THANKS!

I have a Dell Inspiron 530, XP PRO, SP3, about a year and a half old. Almost since I first got it, every few months or so, when I boot up it hangs on the Dell screen. When I turn it off and reboot, it is fine. I use Rebit to back up everything on an ongoing basis and have an extended warranty from Dell. Is there anything I can do about this, or should do? Thanks for your help.

Was given a Dell Optiplex 360 that I found out after getting a nasty virus had a bootleg XP OS
I also did not have any disks with it. I had older disks for a Dell 4600 that I used to wipeout the hard drive and install the new OS. Everything works fine except that I can not load any of the drivers from the second disk, (it was a 3 disk series)
thus at least at this point not able to connect with my cable internet. Cable people told me I needed the drivers.Any suggestions or can it just not be done.
Thanks, Al

A:Loading Older Dell OS To Newer Dell Computer

You will have to go to the dell website look under support and then drivers and downloads for your model of computer. If you use the service tag number on the computer it will make sure you get the correct ones you need. For future reference so you wont have this hassle again burn all of the drivers to a cd so you will be all set the next time.

I recently started using a Dell laptop with a new version of Windows 8.1 with Bing. I ran the app called "Dell Customer Connect," to see what is was about, and it did not launch. I saw no error messages; all I saw was a quarter inch square on my desktop. I think if I clicked the square the square disappeared.

I'm not too concerned about the functionality in the application "Dell Customer Connect." I was more interested in knowing about the source of the problem. In a later investigation I noticed a service called "Dell Customer Connect," and I have now set that service to Manual.

I have a Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop that won't connect to my network all of a sudden. When I click on my wireless network, the messge shows that it is connected and the signal strength is excellent.

When I look in the Wireless Connection Status, the General tab shows I am connected at 54.0 Mbps and the signal strength is excellent (all 5 bars are green).

The Support tab gives the address type as "Assigned by DHCP" whatever that means. I have an IP address, subnet mask and Default gateway that all look fine.

When I open the Wireless Connection properties it tells me I connect using the DELL wireless 1394LAN MiniCard, and that the connection uses the following items: Client for Microsoft networks, File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks, QoS Packet Scheduler, Network Monitor Driver,Internet Protocol (TCP/IP). When I click "configure" I get a message that says" This device is working properly. If you are having problems with this device click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter."

DUH--I cannot connect to the network so the troubleshooter doesn't work. When I try the other paths, nothing else works either.

I tried to reinstall from the disc and got a message saying I have the latest driver.

I have clicked and tracked everything and cannot get the computer to pick up the connection.

Can anyone help???

Hi
This is an XP pro machine and after it failed to connect I have also re-installed XP.
It cannot ping the linksys router and connect to the LAN/ internet.
I have tried comparing TCP/IP settings, checked off windows firewall , compared with other computers on the LAN, checked the cables, assigned working IP's to it to see if that helps etc.

If I bring it home and change the TCP/IP settings to match my home router, it works flawlessly.
I have also completely formatted and reinstalled XP.
What else can I try?
Appreciate any input. Thanks!

So most of my family works on laptops, but i have one old desktop that i haven't turned on in a while, but now I need to get it back connected to the internet for a bit.

I have a network cable running to it (most of my comps run on wireless but this one doesn't have a wireless card), and it connects to the network, but gives me the "limited to no activity" message. Last time I turned it off (a few months ago) it worked fine)

Troubleshooting so far (after rebooting/powercycling everything, of course)
1. connected the network cable to my laptop, after disconnecting the wireless. worked fine.
2. Tried "repair", could not renew
3. tried release/renew, error on renew "unable to contact your DHCP server.
4. tried DNS flush
5. did netsh dump
6. DHCP Client is started, and automatic
7. disabled and reenabled the NIC card (VIA Rhine II Fast Ethernet Adapter)

Hi - I currently have a Dell OptiPlex™ GX270 to which I would like to connect an HP monitor. The monitor has a VGA cable, a DVI cable and an audio cable (and obviously a power cable). The Dell has VGA input, and, as far as I can tell not DVI. Do I need to be able to connect DVI in order to use this monitor? Also, monitor has built-in speakers. I am assuming the audio cable for that would go into the same input that I currently use for my free standing speakers. The monitor has that Bright View Technology which looks quite nice. My system has 512 ram, Intel Pentium 2.4 GHz processor and plenty of hard disk space. Bottom line - is this pc up to the task of this monitor connection? Even though this Dell is sort of old, it still runs fine and I see no need to dump it at this juncture - especially since any new pc's only come with Win7. I like xp. Anyway, any help would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance.

We got two new Dell XPS 13 for users and there does not seem to be any video out ports like on previous models.  This runs Windows 10 Professional and has an internal screen resolution of 1920x1080.  Looks like there is 2 USB 3.0 super speed ports and possibly a (thunderbolt)??? port?
I've heard of USB-C so I'm not sure if this one port on the left side is that, or if its thunderbolt.  I googled thunderbolt to hdmi adapter and in all the images I find it always shows a mini display port on one end despite the descriptions saying thunderbolt.

So whats the cheapest way to get HDMI out on this laptop?

A:How do I connect an external monitor to a new Dell XPS 13?

Hi,
The Thunderbolt( USB Type C port) on the Left Hand side deals with the video output on the system. You will need to purchase a USB Type C to HDMI adapter to display video.
The cable is available on the Dell website here

Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.

Name of your ISP (Internet Service Provider).
Make and exact model of the broadband modem.
Make and exact model and hardware version of the router (if a separate unit).
Model numbers can usually be obtained from the label on the device.
Connection type, wired or wireless.
If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2)
Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP (Home or Pro), SP1-SP2-SP3, Vista (Home, Business, Ultimate), etc.
The Internet Browser in use, IE, Firefox, Opera, etc.

Please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages.

If you're using a wireless connection, have you tried a direct connection with a cable to see if that changes the symptoms?
For wireless issues, have you disabled all encryption on the router to see if you can connect that way?
Have you connected directly to the broadband modem to see if this is a router or modem/ISP issue?
If there are other computers on the same network, are they experiencing the same issue, or do they function normally?

So I connected my Dell laptop to my LG LCD TV for the first time via an HDMI to HDMI cable, and it worked great. The next time I attempted to do this, my TV displayed "no signal" on every hdmi input. I've tried updating drivers and using the tool that is partnered with my graphics card to appoint the TV as the primary monitor, but I've gotten nothing.

Both the laptop and TV recognize that the HDMI cable has been inserted, but it won't show me a picture or give off any sound. Help!

Does it have built in ethernet or Wi-Fi capability? If so, and if Dell has a process similar to HP just run the setup software and follow the prompts.

Alright, so this one is a little tricky. Im on a LAN at my house with 3 other computers and numerous other devices. The main computer I believe is my father's, and we all have Norton Internet Security. He decided not to put the printer directly onto the network because it loses it's ability to scan, or so he says. When we have norton internet security off, we can ping each other but if its on we cannot. when i run the printer wizard and try to connect to a network printer, i can see the printer but when i select next it gives me an error saying it can't connect. The printer is connected and installed on his computer, and I have made it so that it can be shared by simply selecting that option under the sharing tab. We have even used the setup a network printer wizard which also does not work. I have tried installing the printer software on my computer but in order to do that the printer needs to be connected to my computer. Norton Internet Security has a feature called View Network Security Map and it shows all devices connected to the network. On his computers Map the printer is shown as being connected to the network, but i can neither see it on mine or connect to its ip address from the run box. Btw, i have disabled windows firewall for windows xp service pack 3. I cannot see his computer in our workgroup but i can see the NAS and other computer we have connected to the network. Im working with an Etherfast 1 gigabit network router. I think not seeing him or ... Read more

I bought a Dell inspiron 1750 laptop with windows 7. Attempted several times to connect Dell AIO 924 printer to the laptop with no success. Indicators say need to update drivers. Windows7 prompts to fix it, and says it fixed, but nothing happens. What do I need to do make them compatible with minimal or no costs involved? Dell's reps said I need to purchase a (1) yr warranty(239.00) before they will help me. No can do. Help please, thanks!

I installed my dell v305w on my new laptop successfully and was happily using it until recently. It was suddenly offline. I tried updating the drivers to no avail. So after several attempts, I removed the printer and drivers and downloaded and installed them again. I then went to start -> all programs -> dell printers -> v305 -> dell wireless setup utility and ran the utility. The wireless network was added successfully, and the wifi light on the printer was blue. Success... However, despite the signal strength on both laptop and printer being consistently good, when I attempt to print wirelessly, the laptop lists the printer as "offline". VERY FRUSTRATING! I have been trying to sort this out for 2 days! I have rebooted both printer and laptop, and that didn't work either... Please help! I can use the printer wired, but I bought it specifically because it was wireless.

Rt-click the printer in Devices and Printers and select "See what's printing."

I am referencing a 3 yr old Dell Inspiron 3520. It's running on Windows 10.
The laptop was working fine, if not a little patchy yesterday, I closed it, then opened it up about 20 minutes later and suddenly it wouldn't connect to the internet.
On the bottom bar, the Wi-Fi connection symbol has an exclamation point in an orange triangle. When that is clicked, the window looks as though it is connected, except under the connection name it says "No Internet."
This also happens when I connect it to an Ethernet cord.
I've run all the diagnostic tests I can find within the laptop and various online forums, but to no avail. I've also disabled and then enabled the adapters for both the Ethernet and Wi-Fi. I've restarted the laptop multiple times. I've run diagnostic tests within internet connections, shared folders, home group, network adapter and incoming connections. None seem to have any errors or issues. (Any found were fixed then run again and are clear and device restarted). I can't check for updates, as I can't connect to the internet.
I've tried Google Chrome, Safari and Internet Explorer, none of which work. The Wi-Fi is working perfectly with several other devices, (PC, PS3&4, XBox, iPod, Android, etc). But just for safety sake the router has been reset several times.
Dell won't offer any free tech support because it is outside of the warrantee and I've run out of options!!
Please help!! Thanks!

They are all using XP Pro. I have checked the drivers for the laptop's ethernet adapter and they are installed properly. I have changed cables out and have verified that all the cables work. it maybe a firewall blocking that can happen suddenly - if you have a time trial installed at some point in the past or even supplied with the PC
I think Dell use Mcafee - how to remove if this is the case is below

anyway

would you post the following information
------------------------------------------------------------------------
ipconfig /all
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post results here

We would like to see the results from ipconfig /all post back the results in a reply here

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD then press Enter to open a command prompt box (A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on screen ):

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

ipconfig /all > network.txt & network.txt

It will export the results to notepad and then automatically open notepad.

Now all you need to do is copy and paste those results to a reply here
to do that:
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Select all
all the text will be highlighted
Next
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Copy
Now go back to the forum - reply and then right click in the reply box and paste

I've been cleaning up a friends Dell Inspiron N7010 Win7 64bit laptop. The main problems were an unwanted copy of Chrome pounding the hard drive and loads of malware (not viruses). I was in the process of deleting unneeded programs (like Java) when I realized the network had quit working - via wireless or ethernet.

I get an IP address and everything else expected when I do ipconfig /all but I can't connect to anything including my router via IP address. Firefox says Server not found. It's a problem with my network - works fine from other devices. I've tried everything I can think of including a system restore to an earlier time, sfc /scannow and reset IP stack.

Just ran Hijackthis and found something interesting. There was a line that said: broken internet access because of lsp provider c:\users\caity\appdata\local\desktoptemperature\dtwxsvc.dll missing.

desktoptemperature was one of the programs that I got rid of. I tried to do it in control panel but it asked me to close about 8 programs first including Norton. This was not possible so I manually deleted the program everywhere I could find it.

Any idea how I can fix this issue?

Hi, i have two questions.
first: i did not find the bletooth device in this laptop, but i read on the internet, that it should be available in this model.
second and more important issue is, that the laptot is not able to connect to any network via Wi-Fi nor via cable.
It was ok in the past, but now it seems to find the wireless SSID fine and connect to it with the encryption key but it has trouble acquiring an IP address.
I am trying all wi-fi networks available in my neighbourhood and hotspot which i made from my phone and nothing works. Also as i mentioned, the connection it is not working via cable.
I have used this laptot in past also in foreign countries, for example in Vietnam or Cannada and everything worked fine.
Operation system is genuine seller - installed. Win xp service pack 3 home edition.
All other devices, like mobile phone, other laptops are able to connect to my wi-fi. So i don't think there is a problem with my Wi-fi network.
Thanks a lot for your help.

A:Dell Inspiron mini 10 can not connect to internet

You should check your device manager to see what bluetooth you may have installed, and if there are any devices that may need driver updates or are unrecognized by the system.

As for the IP issue. There are many things that can contribute to this. If you have run adware removal recently, some programs can actually remove or reconfigure components essential for network operation. winsockfix is a common tool used to fix this. Ive gone through it myself (while working on a family member's computer who was experiencing similar issues).

You may also try uninstalling and then reinstalling your network card in the device manager. Some people suggest checking your password or removing saved passwords, but seeing as you have already tested multiple networks, the issue is not that.

Ive had my laptop for 2 years and never had a problem with the wireless before now but after moving to a new house it initially connected fine but now either wont recognise the network at all, connects but then disconnects after a few minutes, or recognises and still wont connect. It works fine with an ethernet cable so it cant be my router.

I am using a dell WPAN 1397 mini card, i've run the diagnostics on it and it is working fine and is fully updated. However, when the connection diagnostic for the wireless failed on the gateway IP ping test. How can i fix that?

Ive tried to have a look at similar posts other users have posted. Some say about checking the wireless adapter is on by pressing Fn + F2, this doesnt seem to do anything.

Im really stuck here so i'd appreciate any help, thank you.

I didn't find any posts that were specific to my problem or were current enough that I thought it pertained, so here goes - a little history first.

I upgraded to Windows 10 (Asus laptop) and hated it. Went back to Windows 8.1. Recently had the laptop compromised (AV problem in another post) and had my laptop cleaned up from spyware, etc by a local computer technician. Since getting my laptop back, I have been changing logins and passwords. I'm probably doing more than I have to, but I decided to also change the Home Group shared by the Asus 8.1 and Dell with Windows 10. This is where the problem starts. This is all done through the Control Panel.

After having trouble changing the password on the Dell, I decided to just start over. I "left" the Home Group on both laptops. I turned off both laptops, rebooted the routed, turned on the Dell 10 because it is connected by ethernet to the router, and created a new Home Group. No problem.

Went to the Asus 8.1 and although it says the Dell has created a Home Group, when I try to "join", I end up with the error message: Windows No Longer Detects a Home Group on This Network.

All settings in the Home Group Sharing and Advanced are the same - Network Discovery on, Auto Setup of Network Devices, File & Printer Sharing on, and Allowing Windows to manage the HG connections. All Networks has Read & Write of Public Folders on, 128 bit encrypt, and "NO" to Password Sharing. The... Read more

I will try to give as much detail as possible here. I am not a computer wiz but I'm no dummy either. I have xanadoo internet. It is mostly reliable and I know it is not my internet connection because my desktop works just fine, in fact, I'm using the same ethernet cable for both. I just unplug the desktop ethernet and plug it into the laptop. I also know the laptop detects the cord because it tries to identify a connection when I plug it in. It has never worked for me at home, only if I connect through WiFi. Here's the weird part...I know it CAN work in my apartment because my brother is tech savvy and I asked him to come over and troubleshoot it and when he tried it, it worked like a charm! That part is SOOO frustrating to me I've tried about ten different times and it NEVER works. I know the internet is working at those times because I put it right back in my desktop and it works just fine. I did try to go to internet options and add a connection (even though I don't think it's necessary since it worked for my brother with the same ethernet cord) but it asks for a name and password from my ISP which I don't have and when I try to connect without it, it said something about a problem with the router, but there is no problem with the router. I came right back to this computer and, as you can see, it's working fine. Both are Dells. The laptop is a Dell M5030. Both running on Vista.

PLEASE HELP

Thank you in advance.

Hi,

I just bought a Dell Latitude E6510 laptop and now I wonder how to set it up for internet access. I have a desktop PC and so I know that my connection is good.

I tried just connecting it via the RJ45 socket on the PC, thinking it would configure itself once it sensed a live connection, but no go.

I cannot imagine that it is sold without the necessary hard- and software as it is no more than a couple of years old, but maybe it needs setting up?

The spec sheet says, under Connectivity:

10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet 56K v924 Internal Modem (Optional)

which I take to mean that the modem is not necessarily installed as a matter of course but, like I said above - who buys a PC in, say, 2008 and doesn't get internet connectivity in the deal?

I happened to have an ST Lab 10/100 Base TX USB to Ethernet adapter that I tried before posting this, but Windows didn't find a driver for it so I got one from driverscollection.com but didn't get a 'second chance' to install it manually although I had installed the driver and rebooted the PC.

I then ran Device Manager to see what I could see and, not surprisingly, there were unknown, driverless ethernet adapter entries galore.

I then uninstalled those (the ones with an exclamation mark inside a yellow triangle) until I had a 'clean slate', then did a 'rescan for newly installed hardware' - no go.

Then I did the same on my desktop PC. That is, I didn't uninstall any drivers but plugged in the ST-Lab adapter, did a 'rescan for n... Read more

A:How connect a Dell Latitude E6510 laptop to the net?

The "10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet 56K v924 Internal Modem (Optional)" is actually 2 separate specs.
10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet means the laptop has a wired network card that allows the laptop to be hardwired directly to either a DSL or cable modem, or hardwired directly to a router which is in turn hardwired to a DSL or cable modem.
56K v924 Internal Modem (Optional) means the laptop can be ordered with an internal dialup modem as an option.
Your laptop also apparently comes with a wireless network card for wireless Internet connectivity.

Normally, a router is required to connect 2 separate computers to the Internet.
A standard(wired) router allows both computers to be hardwired to the router's LAN ports.
A wireless router allows both computers to be either hardwired to 2 of the router's LAN ports, or one can be hardwired and the other configured to connect wirelessly, or both can be configured to connect wirelessly(assuming both have wireless network cards).

If you already have a router configured for Internet access, then to connect a 2nd computer to the Internet, go to Windows Help, type internet in the search box, select "Set up a second internet connection", and follow the instructions.

If you do not have a router, then you need to install one. They normally come with setup instructions.

My computer knowledge is very limited, and I am posting hoping that someone can help me with my problem.

A friend of mine just gave me a Dell Inspiron 2200. When I try connecting to the internet I am told that internet explorer cannot display the webpage. I do NOT have a wireless router, I am connected to the modem of my PC through ethernet. I ran a network diagnostics for windows XP and it says that there might be a problem with the modem, but the modem works fine with my PC.

The connection status says that there is limited or no connectivity. It further says that this problem occurred because the network did not assign a network address to the computer. I then clicked on the repair button and it trys to renew the IP address and it says that it cannot finish repairing the problem and tells me to contact the person who manages the network.

In the general local area connection status:

Status: Limited or no connectivity

Duration: 15:00 and counting

Speed: 100.0 Mbps

Activity

Sent Packets 104 Received Packets 0

I have no idea what to do to fix this problem and would appreciate any help that you can provide. I believe that I will have better luck through this forum than to call for help support. Thanks again for the help.

Hello everyone out there, I'm experiencing a lot of trouble and difficulties with my laptop. I recently got a virus and the past few days I've been doing whatever I could to fix it and so I finally uninstalled the virus, but now, When I want to go on websites like on internet explorer or google chrome, it says different error messages. Mostly it says 'windows found a problem that cannot be repaired automatically, contact your internet service provider or network administrator for help or click here for information about things you can try to help resolve the problem'. My laptop says wifi is connected and it shows that it is, but I really don't know what's going on or what the problem is. I've tried everything! Can someone, anyone PLEASE help me out here!!!

So I got a Dell Latitude c400 a while ago, it came equipped with a 3Com 3C920 NIC card. My router's a Linksys Wireless-B that I got at Wal-Mart.

I installed XP on it, then installed the drivers for my network card. Plugged the cable in, did the network connection wizard (which I have used without problem on three other computers working on the same router). There's not really much I can mess up, it's DHCP. But it doesn't work. Network cable unplugged. Used the cable and slot that works for my desktop. Still no luck.

So I assume the network card is fried, and dig up an old Linksys Wireless B Network Adapter (v 2.8) that worked for two computers that were upstairs in my house fine (and again, I set this up myself). I install the drivers for that, turn off the WEP key security on my router, make sure wireless is enabled, make sure the thing is plugged in via the USB port. Still no luck. Wireless connection is unavailable, even though the adapter thingy is sitting RIGHT ON TOP OF the router.

I have absolutely no idea what's going on. The only thing I can get is power save options or something that are default on my laptop and aren't default on the desktops I've configured...

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi ellechiM,

go to start/run and type services.msc and press ok. Is wireless Zero configuraion running?

Also on some dell laptops you need to press the function key with one of the F keys to enable the card.

I have the D-Link WBR-2310 Rangebooster G Router connected to my Comcast cable modem. It works fine with my main PC (with XP Pro) that's connected via ethernet cable, as well as with my work laptop (a Lenovo T61 with XP Pro) and a music player I have, the Roku SoundBridge M1001). Only my daughter's Dell Dimension 3000 has problems connecting to it, with its Dell Wireless 1450 Wireless adapter. It "finds" my wireless network and says "limited or no connectivity", and when I attempt to repair the connection it fails to renew the IP address. I've rebooted the router multiple times, alternating between using a security key and not. The other devices always connect; the Dell just won't (it has before, but it's always had issues). Should I just go buy a D-Link wireless adapter in the hope that it will be easier to match up with the router, or is there some way I can get this stupid Dell adapter to work?

Hello there my wife Dell Inspiron 1545 w/ Windows 7, laptop just stopped connecting to the internet. Last Sunday it was working fine then the following Monday she could not connect to the internet. I had tried all that I could think of and even call Belkin for help. Nothing was wrong with the router so they couldn't help me with the problem. I did a troubleshoot and the laptop gives the following problem. [The Diagnostics Policy Service is not running.] I have no idea in what that is and is hoping that someone can tell me. It do says that it have "Limited connection." Would appreciate it if someone could help to our problem.

A:Dell Inspiron 1545 won't connect to Internet

Be sure to test your connection with another computer first, to rule out cable modem and other hard ware issues.
The Inspiron 1545 does not have a bad record of failure with the ethernet port... but this one could be gone, and might be difficult to fix at your desk without the ability to connect.
You might want to go to the Dell site with another computer and download and save all the driver updates for that Dell Product ID, download and reinstall them via a usb drive or CD... as a early test.
If the Dell is still under warranty, Dell will send somebody to your home or shop for diagnostics... otherwise, you can short cut wasted time by finding a qualified or experienced tech to run a few tests.
Ethernet ports do burn out, randomly, on a number of system boards, though the expected failure rate is very low. We have never seen a failure on the 1545's we see in our shops. Yours may be a goner that only a motherboard repair or replacement will fix...
Good luck. Please let us know the final diagnosis and fix.

Recently purchased refurbished Dell610 XPpro OS to connect to the web using

I'm sitting within 10 feet of the external modem and can't connect the wifi, I
spent many days trying and contacting site I purchased from.
I am able to start wifi by using fn & F2 keys, but it stops there.
My Wireless connection is Dell 1370 WLAN Mini-PCI Card. and the Device Manager
says its "not connected, Firewalled.
I am able to connect if I take the ethernet connection from the other Dell and
connect it to the laptop, but thats not what I bought it for. If I uninstall the

isn't one.
Don't know what I've missed telling you, let me know, is there any help for a

It was my understanding that the HDMI connecting cable carried both video and audio. I have purchased a Dell XPS Laptop that has the HEMI connector.

Connected it to my Sony Bravia 42" TV and the Windows Desktop was truly amazing to see. My problem is that the only audio I am getting is from the speaker in the Dell Laptop.

I was surprised that there was no sound (along with the video)!!!

Does it make sense to buy a mini plug for stereo to come out of the Dell Laptop and that split to a right and left channel to run through my sound sytem.

I think this might work but why am I not getting sound through the HEMI connection?

If anyone has dealt with this, I would sure appreciate any ideas.

Thanks,

Steve Bell

A:HDMI Connect to a Sony Bravia 42" using Dell XPS

You?re going to want to get into your audio settings and make sure your HDMI is set to send sound to your device.

If you are running Vista, right-click your speaker icon in the taskbar and select ?Playback devices? from the menu. From there, a window will open and should list your audio devices. Highlight ?Digital Output Device (HDMI)? in the list and hit the ?set as default? button. Also, right-click and make sure the device is enabled.

Hi.

Please help!

Thanks in advance

Hello,
I am trying to help out my family with this question: I was trying to connect a Dell Studio 1458 laptop to the internet that we have. There is NO router, only a modem so the ethernet cord hooks directly from the cable modem to the computer. The laptop has wireless and wired internet capabilities (supposedly). It couldn't connect to a wireless internet and it wouldn't connect to the wired connection either. I got the same thing every time "Unidentified network: no internet access" Upon troubleshooting I get this error: "internet IP address cannot be configured." It is almost like the computer is not allowing internet accessing.

The internet works fine because when tried on 2 other computers and everything worked fine. Ironically, this is also happening with my sister's Dell Inspiron laptop. Both computers have Windows 7 64x with Broadcom Gigabit Ethernet network cards. The driver for the network card was updated: no change. The device was disabled / enabled, no change. All firewalls and virus software disabled, no change. There are no detectable errors in the device manager.

I am running out of ideas on what could be causing the problem and how to fix it. I am thinking it has something to do with how dell has the computers set-up, because two new dell computers are having the problem; but I have no idea how to approach it. Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Welcome to Seven Forums,

Have you tried connecting your laptop to different Wi-Fi networks and still can't connect?

Might be worth to update your laptop's Wi-Fi ethernet driver to the current one from Dell's support site.

If updating the driver didn't resolve your issue we'll need more information by following our networking preposting requirements to further assist you and provide you more troubleshooting guides.

Hello, I am trying to connect a Dell Inspiron Mini to my home wireless network. It was working last week with no problems. The status icon shows that it is connected to the network and gives an IP address. However, when I try and view a webpage I get "The page cannot be displayed". I have tried to "Diagnose Connection Problem" and it says there are no issues.

I have tried the ipconfig /release, ipconfig /flushdns, and ipconfic /renew and that spits out a new IP address but still no connection. Any help would be appreciated.

A:Dell Inspiron Mini will not connect to internet

Go to the Control Panel/Internet Connections. Right click your Local Area Connection/Properties scroll down to Internet Protocol (TCP-IP) hit Properties. Make sure Obtain an IP Address Automatically is checked as well as Obtain a DNS Server Address Automatically. Browse to C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc open the Hosts file with Notepad. Delete any lines after
127.0.0.1 localhost
Save the file. Do the ipconfig release, flushdns, and renew again.

Hello,
I need some help, please. I inherited an old Dell Dimension with Win 2000, which used to be part of a Domain. It only connected to the internet through a server. Now I can't connect through my cable modem. In dm I find a yellow point next to other devices and PCI simple communications controller. Have installed a netgear pci card, but dm says the card isn't working code 10. When I boot up, the hardware wizard looks for drivers for the pci controller in c:winnt, but can't find them.

The pc is a dell dimension XPS_T.
The motherboard is Intel D845GEBV2
Chipset Intel 845/G/GL/GE

Does this have anything to do with being disconnected from the domain? I have admin privileges.
Thanks for any help

Hello all,
I'm a little computer savvy but I'm not any good with networking so please speak as close to English as possible.
I have a Dell Inpsiron with Windows XP. It will connect to many wireless networks, just not to mine, which of course is my kind of luck. It detects my network but when I enter my key and try to connect it says it's unable to connect. I have picked through a few other forums and saw that I should check my Device Manager. Now I did, but I have no idea what I gained with knowing that my Network Adapters are:
-Dell Wireless 1370 WLAN Mini-PCI Card
-Intel(R) Pro/100 VE Network Connection

And I'm sure my "radio button" is on, because I can connect to other wireless networks right now, just not mine.
So, if you have any ideas please tell me. Any and all help is appreciated.

A:Dell Insprion Won't Connect to Wireless Network

Disable encryption and MAC Address filtering on the router and try to connect that way. If successful you can probably re-enable encryption and reconnect. If unsuccessful please attach a screen shot of the Networks page of the Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector and show ...

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista or 7 type CMD in the Search box after Start)

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525, that is fairly new, considering I bought it two months ago. My parents have satellite internet through Wildblue. An ethernet cable plugs "directly" into the satellite (no router). They use the cable to plug into their desktop and their internet works without hassle or problem. However, when I unplug the cable and plug it into my laptop, I cannot connect to the internet. The windows icon on my bar is blue, since I am sending data; however I recieve nothing.

I have tried several things, such as plugging the IP/Gateway settings (their numbers from Network Connection Details) from my parents connection (desktop) into my laptop, but it still will not connect. The gateway is always shown as blank, and when I tried to run MSN Messenger, it told me my gateway was offline.

I have tried to disable my Norton and Windows firewall, change their settings, but that does not work.

I have tried changing the IP numbers and running troubleshooters (diagnose and repair, etc.), to no avail; by the way, my ethernet cable and port work perfectly fine; I've tested both.

Any ideas?

Hi.

Got a socket on the back of my ispiron 1720 to connect tv. It looks like an s-video but it's got holes for 7 pins instead of 4. Will a normal s video cable work?

Any help would be appreciated don't know much about this.

The manual will show you how to hook it up on page 63. If you don't have the manual:

I just purchased a Dell Blue Tooth Travel Mouse. When trying to connect it finds the mouse, says it has connected and then a window with a countdown clock shows and says click to confirm with mouse but the mouse will not work. I called Dell and after 1/2 hour they said it was a long process to set-up and would charge me $60.00, I only paid $14 for the mouse.

I am running Windows XPS2 on a Dell Inspiron 1520.

Looking for any assistance as this mouse is new and was only released a week ago.

Thanks

I have a friend that has a Dell Inspiron laptop that will not connect wirelessly.  I have used an ethernet cable and it connects and works properly.

When I run a check it says that the wireless is not turned on.  After doing some reading on Google I have found that you can press F2 and FN at the same time to turn on wireless.  I've tried that and it doesn't seem to work.

I've checked the router and the wireless is on.  The inernet also shows that it is connected.

I don't see a slider on the side of the case to turn on the wireless (I have a Dell XPS that uses a slider)

I would sure appreciate any and all other ideas on what I can try.  This Dell Inspiron is running Windows 7.  It has 4 gigs of RAM and a 500 gig hard drive.

Thanks in advance for all of your help.

Hey

i cant connect to my home wireless network on my very old dell latitude d505 on windows xp. it had been working fine upuntil an hour ago. the network is fine-i am connected to it right now on my phone to type this. Connecting on my laptop was sometimes temperamental on startup, but usually worked once i right-clicked "repair". Now when i do. it says "windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action could not be completed - disabling the wireless network adapter". I have disabled then re-enabled the driver through device manager. ive searched for new driver, but it says it could not find a better match.

Im not great with computers, and im actually unbelievably screwed if i cant get this problem fixed. so, im appealing for any advice. thanks, an merry christmas.... jay

Hello, i know a lot about the dell xps m1330, especially when it runs xp.
However i dont know much about windows 7.
I know the wifi in the laptop works, i know the laptop has no issues.
I know this because i switched my hard drive from my 1330 to this laptop which is also a 1330...connects and works fine.
Wifi IS turned on
In device manager the driver is ok no exclamation marks anywhere

When i try and connect with the ethernet i get identifying no network access, then it says currently connected to unidentified network, no network access! You cannot browse.

So that being said it must be in the setting with windows 7.
I uninstalled and reinstalled the wifi driver it did not make any difference.
I also tried using a ethernet connection and it would not connect either.
When i use the win 7 trubleshooter it states a network cable is not properly plugged in or may be broken.

Remeber this laptop functions fine with my hard drive in it with windows xp.

Thanks if you can help

A:Dell laptop Windows 7 wifi wont connect

Hi Kentuckynet,

My name is Mohammed from DELL social media outreach team

In response to your recent query I would suggest you to go the DELL website update the chipset drivers and wireless drivers .You can do it by clicking on the link given below

http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19

Once it’s done click on start->Run-> type CMD type the command ipconfig then press enter and check whether you see any numbers in default gateway if you can see that then type the following command ping then the numbers. If you are not able to get reply after you ping might have issues with windows 7 .Please reply back with the findings.

Thanks & regards
