Changed psu computer wont start now

Q: Changed psu computer wont start now

i bought an antec 650W neopower blue to replace a crappy icute 350w power supply i connected it up and my computer started up fine. then i changed my cpu fan to a zalman flower cooler it then started fine again, but after tighting up all of the screws and closing my case up and starting it up agian my computer doesnt start. there is power to all of the parts as the case fans, drives ,cpu fan, motherboard light are all on, the lights on the front of the case for when you power on the system dont come on thought not sure why. so basically everything appears to be running but i dont get anything on my screen and case lights done turn on, my screen is still working by connecting it up to my laptop so that isnt a problem. i have already tried putting my old power supply back in just to be sure and didnt make a differance.

Please help aint got a clue what is wrong!!!!!

A: Changed psu computer wont start now

I recentlly had a problem with my PC where when i turned it on the HDD light would just stay on and nothing would start or come up on screen (no beeps but all fans started). I purchased a new CPU (same model and speeds) to see if that was the problem and it still did it so i got a new motherboard (same model) and again still nothing. I changed the power supply with another i have on a PC i KNOW works and its STILL the same. I even used the power switch out of the other PC as well as trying with no ram and different ram but STILL the same problem. I dont understand how that can be possible when EVER part is different from that of what is in the computer. No HDD or sata or IDE drives were connected, no cards or anything but still the thing wont start.

New/different motherboard
New/different CPU
Different Ram
Different case & power switch
NO other cards or devices

So WHY is there STILL the same problem ????????

The stats of the PC are as follows

AMD Sempron 3000+
Asus K8V-VM Motherboard
1GB DDR400 Ram

Any help would be VERY much appreciated because i am COMPLETELY stumped on what the problem is when ALL the parts are different and i cant afford to be spending any more money on the system.

Thank You

Hi

I have been incredibly stupid and changed the settings in my BIOS setup. What is even more stupid is I did this by making it "Load Optimal Defaults" so I dont actually know what has been changed.

As a result of this windows 7 now cannot start, it brings you to the error fixing part where it searches for errors, cant find any and offers you some more options including system restore. Ive done a system restore but that has also not fixed it. I have little idea how to fix this, windows 7 was working perfectly until I changed the BIOS, but not knowing what was changed means I cant change it back.

The BIOS version is: 4core1600twins-p35 p1.40

Any help would be immensely appreciated. Thank you very much!

Rhodri

A:Changed BIOS settings now Windows 7 wont start

Hi Rhodri and welcome to Windows 7 Forums

This should be quite easy to fix. All you need to do is to reset the BIOS to its defaults. Boot up and enter your BIOS. You are looking for an option to reset it to its defaults (this is NOT the same as Optimal Defaults). Alternatively, remove and replace the motherboard battery - this will cause all settings to be lost from the BIOS, so you need to make a note of your current settings on a piece of paper so that you can restore them afterwards. This will include the date and time. For details on how to do this, the location of the battery and whether or not there is a motherboard jumper that accomplishes the same thing, see your motherboard manual. Please ensure that your system is unplugged from the mains whilst you do this.

So I turn my computer off one day only to find it wont start the next day. I open the case up and see the led is on. I flip the switch on the power supply off then on and quickly press the power button. My computer starts but the following time I shut down the computer it again wont start and now the led is blinking. I've never had any issues like this before, any help would be appreciated.

I don't routinely use many usb devices, only my mouse and keyboard and every now and then my ipod. I figure the issue is likely either the power supply or the motherboard. The ps is almost two years old while the motherboard is only about three months old.

A:Computer wont start, power supply wont start, blinking led

It sounds to me like your PSU is the problem, get a hold of another and plug it to your computer and see if that will make it start, if it doesn't it might be BOTH your motherboard and PSU. A bad PSU will burn a motherboard.

I am new to working on computers, and I have an eMachines T2895 2.8 Celeron D, 512DDR that fried the mobo. I got a replacement mobo and installed it. It booted up and ran fine but after 3 times hitting the power switch. After I shut it down, it will not boot now. When you press the power switch, the led will light but then the computer will immediately lose power. Then nothing if you press the power switch again (unless I unplug and replug the computer in). Sometimes the fan and LED will stay on for about 5 seconds before losing power. What could be causing this? Power supply? power switch?

A:Changed Mobo, now computer wont boot

WHat was it that fried your first mobo? if it was a faulty power supply and you didnt replace it guess what is going to happen to your new mobo?

No matter what option i pick in the safe mode list, the computer will not start. when i choose any of the safe modes, (safe mode, safe mode with networking etc) the computer displays a list of random commands (i dont understand any of it) and then restarts. If I try to Start Windows Normally, or use last settings that worked, it seems to start loading, and then restarts.

A few months ago i sold my old gateway computer to my aunt and cousin.

Anyways i loaded what i though was enough security and told them not to do anything dumb sat them down showed them how to use the anti-virus software, adaware, spybot blah blah..

I get a call about a week ago from my aunt saying she can't log onto her computer. i ask why? she tells me as soon as she turns it on it asks her for a password (this is before windows or anything loads up, right after the gateway symbol comes up and the press F10 for blah blah which you can't do anyways)
She must have downloaded a virus that tracked her keystrokes or something cause then she told me for about a month she was having problems with all of her passwords being changed and all this stuff i told her she definitely screwed herself over by not telling me the before it got to bad.

I tried to wipe out XP and reinstall but it will not let me boot from an XP CD or floppy disk... no matter what i try to do that stupid password login thing comes up and after two try of typing stuff in a weird smiley face pops up and then you have to restart.

Is there any hope for this computer? what steps or tools do i need to revive this PC if any or is it just a total loss and should i just tell them to throw it away and look for a new one for them

Hi,
Thank you in advance to anyone who is willing and able to guide me through a possible virus. As the title states, my computer has begun acting strangely and I fear it is infected.
Normally, my start up page is Google, when I use my Chrome browser, however, after searching and downloading a movie, things began to get weird. My computer is acting generally slow, and suddenly my start up browser has changed to Yahoo. I fear these are signs of a virus and I would like to take care of this situation before things get worse.
I am fairly inexperienced with virus removal, and I am not sure how to best approach such a vague situation. I ran a Trend Micro Titanium    internet Security, but no threats appeared. I would like to go for a general thorough examination of my computer.
I am using a Windows 8 Operating system.
Thank you again.

A:Start Up Page Changed. Computer Is Slower. What Did I Do??

You may have installed the Yahoo Toolbar without knowing it or accidentially changed your startup page without realizing it.Many toolbars, Add-ons, screensavers, and weather monitoring programs come bundled with other software (often without the knowledge of the user) and can be the source of various issues and problems to include Adware/browser hijacking. Even if advised of a toolbar or Add-on, many folks do not know that it is optional and NOT necessary to install in order to operate the program. Toolbars and Add-ons can usually be removed via Add/Remove Programs or the Programs and Features in Vista/Windows 7/8, so always check there first. If the program is not listed in Add/Remove or Programs and Features, the next place to check is your browser Add-ons.- How to Disable Addons, Extensions or Plugins in Google Chrome, Firefox and Internet Explorer- How to Disable Add-ons/Extensions in Internet Explorer, Firefox and Google ChromeTo set or reset Google Chrome's Home Page, please refer to How to set the home page in Google ChromeTo restore the default settings in Google Chrome, please refer to: Reset Default Page Settings in Google Chrome

my computer wont boot and still it wont display.
i already changed a video card and stil it wont.
it have no beep at all and it will not display.

what should i do?

A:guys my computer wont start and wont have a display

does it beep any. if not this will indicate more major problems. (unless you dont have beep speaker installed) a mother board is programed with a set of beep to play if there is a problem like such as three beeps if the ram is not working, 1 long beep if the vid card is not working etc etc. I DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOUR BEEPs WILL BE. if you are not getting these then you need to find out why. see if you have a speaker inside your case. if you do and all of your fans spin but still no action from you pc then you may have a larger problem such as mother board or processor.

I posted this in the hardware section because i know its gotta be hardware related. On one of my older computers, which is a HP(bought in 2002), wont start at all. Not even the Compaq logo will display, which means BIOS wont start either. so i cant boot at all, or operate the computer in anyway. This happened right after i installed a gig of RAM, i was upgrading from 512 mb to 1 gig, they were 2 different cards, 512 each, and both had 189 pins. I installed them, booted up and nothing.

I really dint think there is a solution for this though, because after that, i put the 512 RAM back in and it still didnt work. Im thinking the motherboard was fried, by static electricity maybe. if thats the case than ill just get a new computer. which leads me to my next question.
How do i access my Harddrive? I have a lot of valuable data on there and an expensive music collection, as well as a bounch of backed up movies.
Any help is really appreciated guys, thanks in advance.

Well, today when I woke up I tried starting my computer, but it started making beeping noises and the light on the expansion bay started flashing. I looked up the problem, and found it it's beep code. The beeps my computer is making is as follows:
short, short, long
short, short, long
short, short, long
short, short, long
short, short, long

There is a one second interval in between each set. I went to the HP site and found this page: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&docname=bph07107#N1010 . However, I'm not sure if it applies to my BIOS or not. I have a HP Pavilion Media Center m8120n TV PC, 3GB RAM, Nvidia GeForce 7350 LE Graphics Card, and about 500GB of HDD space, and an Intel Core 2 Quad Processor Q6600.

I tried looking for the specific BIOS on my computer, but couldn't find it. So I can only assume what they say is my problem is what it actually is. Which is that my computer was "Unable to initialize video or video card required but not installed". This computer is about 4 years old, and I have never changed the card, and have not updated the drivers for several months. How can I fix this problem? I read on other forums where people where having problems with their RAM they had to try putting it into a different slot, however, I'm not sure if my computer has multiple PCI-E slots to do this. Furthermore, If I do have to do something similar, I have no means of grounding myself. Would it be okay if ... Read more

A:Computer makes beeping noises on start, computer wont run

Do you have any display at all?

If not, then it's probably certain that the beep code is correct; that your video chip needs butter (because it's toast).

Does it have a video card installed? If so, pull it, and see if you can get display through the native video output. If it is without a video card, go to a local shop, and see if they have on old one, compatible with your system, that you can use to test with. If it tests good, you probably need to buy a video card...

If your computer is disconnected, you can probably get away without any grounding strap. Nothing in life is guaranteed tho'.

First of all i would like to thank you for taking the time to read this. I just got done building my new computer the specs are as follows.

motherboard- intel d915gevl
processor- intel pentium 4 530j 3.0ghz

hard drive- 80 gig maxtor diamondmax 10 sata drive

well here it is in a nut shell, i've built computers before, never really went for the gaming case thing, i usually just stick to the average case but i wanted to do something different this time, everything is hooked up ,the little green led is lit where you hook the psu into the motherboard, i press power, nothing happens, i hold it in for 4 seconds then let go it makes a kind of hissing noise, it only lasts for a second not even. i unhooked everything and hooked it back up numerous times its still the same thing, there is one weird thing i have noticed for my fp header on the mother board i have the usual pwr sw, hdd led, reset sw, but instead of our usual pwr led, they turned it into a molex connector. i dont know if that is the problem, i've trouble shooted my **** off lol, i've tried to get a hold of kingwin because when i recieved the case there was no book paper work or nothing just a reciept. well i have e-mailed them so many times, the first time i waited a wee... Hi jeffdogg, sorry to hear you are having problems, I hate it when that happens. The first thing I would suspect, is the power supply. If you have an extra power supply, try that. Let us know how it goes.

Edit: jeffdogg, disconnect that power led wire, you don't really need it for now. I hope you are not talking about the square four-connector cable from the power supply? If it is, that you will need, if the MOBO is a P4 ATX MOBO.

sometimes, it wont star and the reset button wont work.-- requires shutting it off at the back (power source) turning power supply back on, then the start button.

unless I hear that initial beep, I know it wont start. 99.9% of the time I don't get the beep and have to go through this procedure to start it.

ironically, everything has been replaced on it over the last 2 years.

ram
motherboard
cdrive
new additional hard drive
power supply
even the box has been replaced
video card etc

its only the very ODD time it will start first try. of course the shops fix for this is to simply start to replace stuff. now that everthing is replaced, it still doesn't work properly.

so then I tried changing the location in the house. that didn't make a difference either. I tried different circuits, changed the power bar/breaker, plugged it in directly without a power bar, changed the power cord several times.

I don't get it.

I also have a mac which is in the same room and it works fine (touch wood)

Not this computer, obviously. My mothers computer will not start past the second screen (saying Core-cell). Her computer runs on windows xp. This happened after I was removing files from the C drive, specifically multiple game files and placing them onto my flash drive. During this a pop-up came up with something about an important windows file being deleted, I was already finished so I cared too little about this ever so important message. I ignored it and continued to transfer the files onto my computer. Well needless to say, when my mom found her computer, it was already off, so when she attempted to start it it stopped after the second screen. I thought no big deal, ill just get out my handy windows xp- drivers and utilities (to repair it). And to my dismay nothing occurred. Nothing at all, restarted it multiple times (manually of course) with nothing but the same blue screen staring into the abysmal "Core-Cell." Not all is lost right? It is after all, just a repair disk! So I attempt to install vista, don't ask me why I thought a disk would work after the first one failed so miserably. Regardless, the same result. I attempted other things, furiously mashing the f8 key and for some apparent reason decided the f12 key had not been particularly good to me lately, so I mashed that too. With my limited knowledge, I even tried to enter the BIOS, knowing fully that if I managed to get into it, I would not know what to do from there. So all in all, I looked ... Read more

Yesterday my computer was fine. When I tried to boot it up today, nothing happened, except for half a second where the fans spin a little (All fans, cpu, gpu etc). The motherboard light is green, and everything seems to be in perfect shape. I assumed my PSU was broken, so I tried a different one. First boot and it works great, but when I boot it up the second time (I forgot to connect the dvd-player) nothing happens, except for half a second like before. A PC-shop tested the PSU, and the readings state that there's nothing wrong with the PSU itself. What can be the problem? I'm getting desperate.

It is most likely an overload issue. Just because the PSU tests fine doesn't necessary mean that it is good. I would try a spare PSU and if the issue still persists I would replace the DVD drive.

Hi there.

My friend was online to me on MSN about 30 minutes ago...
Then she went offline, and phone me saying her computer is going so slow and wont load up... I think she was in her msconfig settings trying to stop messnger loading on startup, obviously she may have pressed something else? But anyway, now the computer just lags on startup and doesnt get past it... it just sits and waits...

Is there anyway to back up at a system restore point or put the msconfig settings back to default or anything?

Thanks for your help

A:Computer Wont Start

She could try going into safe mode by pressing the F8 key during POST (just before windows begins to load) and selecting the safe mode option.

If she gets into that, she can run system restore there.

hi all. recently i have encountered problems with my computer. Sometimes when i boot it up, it shows the windows xp loading screen, but then the screen goes black, my harddrive seems to keep spinning and it makes a clicking sound, nothing else happens. The only way I can boot my computer is if i go to the selection "Last good configuration", but even when i do, the clicking happens every 2-3 boots. One time, however, when i selected "Last good configuration" I got the BSOD "Bad_pool_Header". I did some research and discovered it means some drivers are not up-to-date. It also explained that it could be fixed by disabling the indexing service. The problem is I already have indexing disabled, and i believe my drivers are up-to-date, but ill check.

My specs are:
P4 2.0 Ghz
Windows XP Home
512 RAM
Radeon 9800 pro
Emachines Manufacturer

ps. the only other changes i can think of that ive done are tweaks from http://mywebpages.comcast.net/SupportCD/OptimizeXP.html

any help would be very appreciated!

thx
-civ

!EDIT! right after posting this i found a thread that had people with the same manufacturer (Emachines) encounter the same problem. all seem to have discovered it fairly recently like me. This is really weird! Did emachines plan a date for their comps to go bad?? lol

I have a dell latitude d610 and when I start it a message pops up saying I need to uninstall anti-virus and I have the blue screen of death. Any suggestions?

A:Please help, my computer wont start

How old is your Dell?

Did you contact Dell Support? (don't forget to have your Service Tag ready)

Did you register your AntiVirus when you got the Dell and keep your subscription up-to-date?

Do you have the recovery CD that came with your Dell?

Do you have a Setup CD for your OS? (WinXP)

IF you have the WinXP Setup CD:

Step-1) Try this:Boot to your WinXP Setup CD
At the 1st window with the Repair option on the bottom Statusbar, do that to open the Repair Console
When you get to the Repair Console's Command Prompt enter CHKDSK C: /R (the R is not a typo)
Let CHKDSK do its thing, then reboot
Also, running CHKDSK from the desktop (via Start menu, Accessories, Command Prompt) by entering CHKDSK C: /F (the F is not a typo), occasionally. This should be part of your general system maintenance routine. Note that this will require a reboot to actually run.

If Step-1 did NOT work...
Step-2 do a Repair Reinstall WinXP...
Do this:Boot to your WinXP Setup CD
At the 1st window with Repair listed in the bottom Statusbar, select to install (skip this Repair)
Setup should see you have Windows already installed and you'll get a window with a 2nd Repair listed in the bottom Statusbar, use this to start a Recovery Reinstall.
A Recovery, aka Repair, Reinstall will reinstall all the original system files but leave your present configuration and applications as is.

Note, you will have to redo ALL Win Updates. Highly suggest you only install 3 to 5 at a time:De-Sel... Read more

Could be a faulty power supply, or a bad motherboard. Try switching power supplies first, and if that doesn't work, then see if you can try a different motherboard.

So recently I have been having the problem of my computer randomly not booting. Safe mode always works though, so I have simply been going into safe mode and using system restore (every week, if not more). After I do this it once again boots normally. Sometimes it hangs on the Windows loading screen, but will boot. Today, I just got back after a few day trip, and it wont boot at all. Safe mode still works, as does Safe mode with networking (which is how I'm posting this) but when you boot, it goes through the windows loading screen and turns black. After its been black for a few seconds, it does one of two things, either immediatly restarts itself, or flashes a blue screen with a bunch of numbers on it (as far as I can tell, the screen is up for much less than a second and I can't truly tell anything it says.) So I need this problem resolved ASAP since I do work on this computer, yet have no clue where to start. System restore doesnt do anything as I said, yet Safe mode works absolutely fine. Any suggestions? Help is greatly appreciated.
Edit: Oh by the way, I built this computer myself maybe a year and a half ago. This is the first problem I have had with it, and it seems to be program related and not hardware.

Thanks!

hello,

when I press the power button on the front of my pc all the fans and lights come on and spin round as normal and the computer sounds normal (from the inside). But the screen and my key board and mouse (which are both USB) won?t work. This problem has started immediately after replacing my old CPU fan. In the process of replacing the fan we had to take out the mother board and other drives because of installing a new bracket for it to mount on. my thoughts at this stage are either that the mother board is broken (although the new cpu fan still works) or that there is maybe a little cable some where that I have not plugged in properly and is causing this problem. I would be very great full if some one could help and give me some pointers to what it could be and maybe what to check.

thank you
alex

Hello and I'll start this off by apologizing if I'm asking my question in the wrong forum. I'm brand new on here and just registered and I have a major problem I need help with.
Just went on vacation and came home to a computer that won't start.
When I turn on the computer I get a screen saying the computer was not shut down properly and asks me if I want to start in safe mode, safe mode with networking, last known settings that worked, or start normally ? No matter which option I select the same things happens....It just restarts and gives me the same screen and options. I can't get past there at all. I don't get to Windows or anything just this same thing over and over again. I'm clueless to what this could be and if it's fixable, but I have all the pictures of my son on this computer since he was born and I need to be able to get it working or get them off somehow. Hope someone can help with this...I'm desperate.
I don't have a windows CD. I think with the model I have it doesn't come with one, you do system restore without it. Built in to the computer or something. Please help !

Have you left it running for some hours? Sometimes it takes chkdsk quite a long time to fix errors. Leave it longer and see if it eventually completes

Hi, I just built a new computer for my self and it wont start up. I have treid a different cpu, a different video card, a different power supply, different memory, and a differnt hard drive. So i figured it was the motherboard, but the green light is on on the motherboard. I also tried 2 different cases leds, and then i tried to start it up with a screw driver, but nothing.

This is my specs

core 2 duo e6600
Asus p5w deluxe mobo
ati x1900xt
Ozc ddr2 pc800
hitachi 160 gig HD
600 W kingwin psu

I have tried this combo on that mobo

core 2 duo e6300
x1800xt
G-skill ddr2 ram
Seagate 160 gig Hd
500 W Rosewill psu

But nothing works

A:New computer wont start

Your going to need an older CPU such as P4, PD. You have to pop on of those in the board and flash BIOS. This will update the board allowing you to use your new core2 duo.
Lucky.....

Also you may be able to send your mobo back to the Asus and have them flash it for you. You may have to make a small payment.

Hi everyone, I have an Windows 7 64bit Machine that is currently having issues. I built it about 2 years ago, but cannot remember all of the info of the build. It has an AMD Phenom II Black processor though, and compatable AMD Motherboard. This is a long story, so get ready...

My computer wont start.

Earlier today I turned on my computer after it had been off over night. I got an unusual error message upon startup. I recognised the error screen as a Blue Screen from Windows, but it was gone too quickly for me to write down the error code. After that, the computer restarted and was working fine. When I was finished with it (After running virus scan and doing general diagnostics to find the problem, to no avail), I turned off the computer again and wen't to work. Upon coming home, I had the same problem.

The computer will start, boot normally with the BIOS screen, etc. But the moment it would normally go to the Windows logo while loading, it instead would go to a blue screen with error code, and after only a second or two, restart on its own. Again, I never had enough time to write down the error.

It did this a few times, with me trying to write down the code letter by letter. I stopped when I realized the code was different every time the computer booted.

Now the computer wont boot at all. It does not even get the BIOS screen. It boots up and beeps once. You can hear all the fans start running, and then suddenly the fans will slow down dramatically (but not turn off)... Read more

2 things you can do:

1) Check your Event Viewer for errors and post them here. Go to Start...Run... and type in "eventvwr.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter. Then, click once on the word "System" in the left hand pane - then look for Errors (at about the time of the freezes). When you find them, right click on them and select "Properties". Then, let us know what it says and we'll work with that.

2) I'd try updating your video drivers (but this is just a pure shot in the dark!).

I'm running a Dell Inspiron E1505. My wireless was having a problem. I followed the steps outlined in this post.

http://forums.techguy.org/networking/586274-wireless-network-detected-but-internet.html

Mainly I went into command prompt and did the following:

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ip reset reset.log
When I went to restart my computer wouldn't turn on! The power light is illuminated, the CD drive clicks once, but other than that nothing happens.

As I was typing this post the Inspiron suddenly booted up (it had been sitting there for 45 minutes at this point with the power light on). It seemed to run fine until suddenly the screen went black (it was backlit now where as before there wasn't any light) and thats the end of the story.

I tried restarting it again and it still hasn't booted up. Its just sitting there with the power light on.

Help Please!

A:Computer Wont Start Up

Do you get anything on the screen when you turn it on? If so, start pressing F8 right away. If you succeed in getting to the boot options, choose "last known good configuration". See if it boots all the way up. If not, you could try the Dell utility partition and run diagnostics. This can be accessed by choosing F12 almost immediately after pressing the power button, once the menu loads choose Utility partition and run all diagnostics. Hope this helps solve your issue, let the forum know if it does.

Ok heres the situation, I have an Emachine T3092 and all I wanted to do was to tranfer all the internal parts(motherboard, hard drive, dvd/cd rom etc ) to a bigger case. I bought an Aspire xdreamer2 computer case at Newegg this week. Upon tranfering, all I did was unscrewed all the bolts from the motherboard, took off the IDE drives, dvd/cd rom, power supply etc etc. I made a diagram of the Power SW, HDD Led, and Power Led and used a needle nose to put to the slot. The Xdreamer case had a Reset SW but the Emachine motherboard(Fic AU31) had no connection for it so I let that be. After I did all this, I tried turning on the computer but it just wont start.

What else did I do? I swapped power supply, still wont start.
I swapped and used the Emachine front panel Power SW, HDD Led, and Power Led - still no go

When I say it just wont start, I mean nothing goes, no sound, no nothing

Any suggestions?

My desktop has had a screwed up start-up for a while now, but its getting to the point where its entirely unusable, so i thought i would ask for help on here.

Basically, for around a month now, my computer has been failing to start up on the first attempt, sometimes the fans could be heard, sometimes what i think is the hard drive could be heard, sometimes nothing. However it used to work if after the first failed attempt, i unplugged the power, left it for a while, re-plugged the power, let it fail again and then it would work about 5-10 minutes later.

Now however this no longer works and i've had everything from silence to normal sounds coming from it without it working; and even more annoyingly it gets a variety of different problems e.g. sometimes it keeps restarting itself with nothing showing on the monitor, its complained about the boot device before or on the occasions I can get it to start up it will freeze a few minutes after windows loads.

EDIT:
Heres what i know of my computer specs:
Windows 7 64 bit
Intel quad core Q6600
Nvidia Geforce 8800 GTX
8GB RAM
ASUS Maximus 2 republic of gamers motherboard
FSP Epsilon 800w PSU

If anyone could help I would be most appreciative.
Thanks

ok, heres the thing. this morning i got on the computer (xp home) from sleeping in half the day away and suddenly zone alarm starts bringing up all these new programs that want to acess the internet. and then avg starts saying i have a new virus, one after another.

so i run avg and adaware and take out like the 70ish new files. for some reason though avg didnt find anything (even though it told me about the new viruses) so then i desided to do some windows updates. after working around behind the constant "get sevice pack 2!" stuff (havent gotten it yet because ive been hearing nothing but bad news) i noticed that i missed about 8 important secrutity patches. so i install and update them and then it asks "would you like to restart your computer now?" i figured, "ok, everything seems to be fine now" so i clicked yes.

so my computer starts to restart and doesnt get very far (only to the intel processor screen) then i get "no signal" on the screen and it all starts over. and then it just keeps looping over and over.

the night before i didnt even do anything. i got off from playing final fantasy 11, and then started to work on some animations of mine. and then around 12 at night i went to bed... it was weird though because my comp didnt want to shut down right away like usual.

most of the time your RAM is checked in the post screen after the CPU. If it cannot pass the ram tests then you may have lost some ram. Open her up and check all your connections and re-seat your cards and Ram. If you can get into the bios and check things out there. It could also be the processor or Mobo but usually you wont see anything. Since you freeze before anything boots it may not be the OS.

When i turn on my computer it takes me to the screen that says the computer couldn't turn on properly. It gives me the 3 options for safe mode, a start normally, and start before the problem started.

On any of those options that i choose, it gets to a blank screen (the one just before the login box pops up) and it freezes. It quits loading.
I tried hitting F8 to take me to the troubleshooting menu, but still, ALL the options provided have the same result, a blank screen.

Is there a way to fix this without losing all of my memory? If so, is it expensive?

Sounds to me like something in your MBR (Master Boot Record) got jacked up. Your can try putting in your windows CD and see if it will let you boot onto it and use the repair option to try and fix the MBR from there, but there's no promise there.
Have you made any changes to the computer at all hardware or software wise before this starting happening?

A:computer wont start up

I also had this error code, but it only occurred when attempting to restore everything. The restore was considered because the system continually rebooted and never reached the Windows logo. In my case, the error code occurred in line 1768 (HP PC m7310.uk). Reading replies on various forums it was suggested that the problem was either a faulty ram module (try one at a time if you have a pair) or power supply (failing under load). In the end, I found it to be the memory, despite the fact that it displayed ok in the BIOS setup. The memory turned out to be ok but it was showing as 'faulty' because a Parts Label Number had been stuck onto the strip diagonally and was causing a 'dis' across 2-3 pins (DDR2 240 pins)! Try everything before reformatting. Unfortunately I also purchased a new mbo via eBay, but it was a later release, so I did gain a little. Even with the new mbo, I did not initially see the problem with the memory because the pins were only covered by about 1-1.5 mm. Hope this might help. CS

There's something wrong with my computer, it keeps freezing at the black windows page that has a loading bar at the bottom [ it freezes at the bar ] . it happened many times before, and i inserted the window xp cd and used the recovery console to format C:, then installed a new window. however, while i was installing, the setup keeps restarting and simply worked after it restarted about 5 times. the computer was working fine again, until today when it show that window update and that it needs to restart the computer. when i restart the computer, it wont open up and just freezes at the window page. i tried leaving the computer off for 3 hours and unplugged all wires, hoping that it'll reset, but it didnt help. what should i do now? should i just format the C: and install windows again? whats making this problem anyways? thanks in advance

Hi I have a Gateway Laptop running on Vista 32 bit and yesterday it just shut off while I was using it. When I turned it back on it only got to the Gateway please wait screen and stayed there. So I put in the operating disc and did the start up repair and well its been doing that for hours and I dont know if its actually doing anything. im not sure what I have to do, I recently backed up all my files so If i need to I can reformat it all but i dont even know how to do that.

A:Computer wont Start up

I'd say stop it

Let the computer cool down (30 mins or more)

Start the Vista setup again
This time remove old partitions
And do a clean install (This part is your choice - but is preferred option)

Why did you shut it off by the power button? Is this something you do often as it sounds like you blew the power supply and that is one thing that can cause. Can you tell us brand and wattage of your power supply?

Hey,
My comptuter has been working fine for almost a year now, and suddenly i dont use it for 2 days and it wont boot. It is a Thermaltake Tsunami Dream case, and when plugged in the little light with a lightbulb next to it flashes continuously, but when I press the power button nothing happens, nothing at all. No fans go on, the speakers dont react, nothing happens. I have tried looking through all my connections, and nothing seems to be out of place. Anyone have any idea what could have happened while the computer sat there for 2 days? (it wasnt touched)

Edit: I'm also now noticing what seems to be a soft clicking sound coming from the power supply, if that helps at all.

Do any fans spin, are there any lights that are lit including your motherboard, are you plugged into a power suge protector? How old is this system?

Give us your system's hardware specs. If this a prebuilt system such as an HP or Dell, etc. then link us to your particular model.

What's the brand/model of the PC. If it's home built, please list all of the hardware. Beep codes usually indicate the reason for the boot failure. The users manual will generally list the information about what the beep codes mean.

When she switches her computer on now it wont start. It seems to get part of the way as the monitor light comes on but then switches off. nothing else happens. What could it be?? What can I do to put it right for her???

Try a different video card in the PC, that probably got toasted as well when the monitor went.

I have a HP computer that wont start up. I get to the blue startup screen that says hp pavilion, then that goes away (like normal) but then the computer restarts. I hit F8 when it started (to try to start in safe mode) and got the windows advanced options screen. I then selected safe mod, then i selected Windows xp home edition then hit enter. The computer restarted. So from this I believe it restarts when it tries to load windows. Ive also tried to go to the option in windows advanced options that says "restore the computer to an earlier time" (or something like that) but it restarts. Any sugestions? I really dont want to use my D: partition (total system restore) so I'm leaving that as a last resort. Any help would be greatly apreciated.

Well my brother recently invested in a custom made gaming computer. It is custom made, so I don't really know the specs. It's been working great for about 3/4 of a year now, but a couple days ago, completely out of the blue, it stopped working.

It was shut off, and then when he tried to start it, it loaded up to the startup page with the big Gateway logo on it, and the little options that say BIOS OPTIONS and SETTINGS. From here, nothing happens. We have left it on for hours, and it simply wont continue starting up. We have tried pressing F8, F10, F12, all those things for Safe mode and such, but none work. As far as we know, the only option would be to format the computer, which he would rather not do.

What can we do to fix this problem?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
G-ram

my computer doesnt seem to work for some weird reason. the tower powers on but the hard drive doesnt spin or make any noise. all i hear are the fans working. i have two identical dell dimensions 2400 and was trying clean them out because of all the dust that formed on the inside. i one apart completely (removing motherboard, connections, memory, and psu) and for the other just removed the cables from their spots. i used a hair dryer to blow all the dust away and when i finished and reconnected all the wires and everything, both computers wont start up. it is completely non responsive. i tried using alternate psu and different monitors but no luck. please help me get atleast one to start working!

Did you put all the cables back in the right spots? And when you use a hair dryer, make sure the heat is off..

Help anyone!!! My computer will not start, it is stating that the Windows/system32/config/system is corrupt!! I got this computer from another person and it did not have a recovery disk with it!! I have tried everything that I have found online. But when I try to boot from an Xp disk, it states that the file is not valid, when I run a Chkdsk, it says that there is a bad sector that can not be repaired. So I am at my wits end, and don't know what to do!!!

Since the computer is a newer version than I am used to working on, I can't add it as a slave and try to repair it that way! SOME ONE PLEASE HELP ME!!!!

"Windows/system32/config/system is corrupt"The only way I have every managed to fix that problem is by reinstalling XP & I've probably tried every fix found using Google & Ask." when I run a Chkdsk, it says that there is a bad sector that can not be repaired."Boot a XP disk, delete the XP Pratition & try formatting the drive. If it can be fixed the drive will format & XP will install. If the drive won't format it will have to be replaced.

Last night I decided to update my Nvidia drivers. I'm not exactly sure what happened, but when it prompted me to reboot my system, my system never came back up. After hitting the windows XP load screen it would just stay black (I let it stay there for four hours to make sure it wasn't just running slow)

So I then tried to re-install windows, which it allowed me to do, but once again when prompted to reboot after turning the system off and back on nothing but a black screen.

I decided to hook my main drive into my daughters computer to get data off of it before reformatting it completly. My daughters computer wouldn't even boot up with the thing plugged in, only telling me that there was a boot error. So I decided to give up on that drive, and just start from scratch with a clean 100GB drive I had laying around.

The first thing I noticed when I started my computer up was that the CPU fan was not running. The hard drives both seemed to be whirring away, and my video card fan was running fine. And in addition nothing would appear on my monitor.

So I unhooked all unnecesary components, and tried starting the thing up with just the motherboard, video card, and keyboard. Still nothing.

Any ideas?

My computer is kind of new its 2 years old and I have put a lot of money into it. It has been working flawlessly until recently one day I went to turn it on and it starts up and goes to a black screen with a blinking white line and stays there and does nothing else. I've tried doing a system recovery, putting a windows 7 disc in their etc. Nothing seems to work. My uncle who is very knowledgeable in computers said everything is running but something has wiped out my operating system. I don't care if I lose everything I just want my computer working again. .

A:My computer wont start

Have you checked your BIOS settings to make sure it's loading the proper boot device? (Your HDD, presumably)

Have you ever checked your HDD for errors? Sounds like a corrupted OS, to me. If you have a Windows 7 disk, pop it into the optical drive, and enter your BIOS Boot Menu (On Dell, it's F12 upon start up, Escape on HP Desktops, etc.) Pick your CD/DVD Drive and attempt to re-install Windows. Better yet, you can buy HDD enclosures for pretty cheap and, if you have another machine, you can use it to access your HDD externally. This way you can backup your data, if needed.

Also, you can use tools such as Kaspersky's Recovery Disk or Hiren's Rescue Disk (Mini XP) to get data off of your HDD, given that it works.
