Dell Inspiron graphics card question

Q: Dell Inspiron graphics card question

Hi, I just purchased a laptop from dell and over much debate forced myself to go with the Inspiron over the XPS laptops. I know it sounds crazy but I got a $1,450 for 1,100 with coupon combinations, etc.

My biggest concern, and my only problem with the laptop is it is running a Intel Integrated Graphics Media Accelerator X3100. I've read reviews on its performance, and well, im very distraught.

Me being a gamer I have to have some kind of video performance.

IS THERE ANY and i mean ANY way this could be upgraded? Even if it would only take a few hardware component swaps, please tell me that one day I can make this a beast of a laptop. Here are its specs, and the reason why I chose it over the XPS. Im sure you will agree its a great laptop, only lacking in graphics capability (and possibly HDD RPM).

I have a Dell Inspiron 530 with a Dell 0FM586 motherboard, Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz, 3MB memory. I'm currently using the integrated graphics, but I'd like to upgrade to the Nvidia XFX GeForce 9600 GSO video card. So, I have two questions:
I will also have to replace my existing 350-watt power supply. Can you recommend a reliable, affordable power supply in the 550-watt range? (I already bought the Rocketfish RF-550WPS. Will it be sufficient?)Has anyone had any experience with this setup (a Dell Inspiron 530 with an Nvidia XFX GeForce 9600 GSO video card)? They are compatible, correct?I used to build my own computers, but it's been a while and technology has come a long way since then. I don't even know what Nvidia's SLI technology is, so I'm assuming that this is not an issue here....

Any light that anyone can shed on my concerns would be most greatly appreciated. Thanks for your help!

Dave

A:Upgrading Graphics Card in Dell Inspiron 530

Hi DMMoulton, welcome to the board.

As long as your board has a PCI exp 16 slot it will support the GPU. 550w PSU is quite sufficient for one 9600. Don't know much about if Rocketfish is a reliable brand though.

Computer now and then is basically the same in principle.

Enjoy,

Bruce

Hello,
My graphics card on my Dell Inspiron 8200 has died. Yes, the laptop is seven years old, but it out performs all the new laptops at work, so I'm sticking with it. (It might be because work won't allow any operating systems other than Win XP that I gives me the advantage - don't know) The invoice says that the card was a "32MB DDR 4X AGP nVidia GeForce4 440 Go". There are plenty of these cards around. Just wondering if I can stick anything better or new in, but I don't know what will fit. Found the install picture at http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ins8200/en/sm_en/vidbd.htm#1084976
Value your thoughts. Many thanks in advance.

A:Graphics Card Dell Inspiron 8200

I could be wrong, but I don't think there are many other graphics cards that would fit your laptop, being the removable graphics cards for laptops are rare..

If you can find a Radeon 9000, it will work, that's about all that I know of.

Hey there, I'm currently running a crappy 256MB GeForce 8600 GT, it runs pretty well but it's 3 years, almost 4 years old, and new games aren't running as fresh as I'd like..

I'm considering upgrading to a new Palit GTS 450 SONIC OC 1024MB card

Just wondering if anyone can tell me if it will actually be able to run on the stock rig

Can someone show me a diagram of how to attach a 6 pin connector to wherever it goes so I can see if it will all go smooth before I purchase it?

4GB Ram, 3.0GHz Core 2 Duo already upgraded, so please don't say bottleneck is imminent!

Like an idiot, i never looked up the 530s and bought it on impulse. Now i find out that it is not a good gaming computer. I'm not a hardcore gamer but want a card that is at least 512 mb and can run games decently. The problem is i hav a slim case and cant find a PSU that will fit into it.

Can you please tell me if you have suggestions for a graphics card and PSU combo

A:New Graphics Card For Dell Inspiron 580s

The card should fit no problem. The power supply on the other hand may not be up to it. The HD 6670 isn't necessarily a power hungry card (average around 67W at load) but if your Dell has the stock 300W power supply in it, it may not work.

Hello,
I did look through similar threads on this site first, but the most recent one I found was more than a year old, so I decided to create a new Post
We have a 6 year old Dell Inspiron 580 MT. Just purely because of its age I am about to put in a new Hard Drive, & while doing this I thought to upgrade/replace the dedicated Graphics card.
At the Moment there is a 512 MB NVIDIA GeForce G310 card in there. The Computer is used mainly for business, so no gaming stress on it. The Card handles two Monitors, both Dell 2007FP with a resolution of 1600 x 1200. At the moment one is on the DVI, one on the VGA but I would like to make both DVI to "Future Proof" if we replace the Monitors with larger Higher resolution ones.
What would be a sensible upgrade Graphics Card? I would like to find one that would not require a PSU upgrade as well.
CPU is an Intel Core i3 Processor 530(2,93GHz,4MB)
8 GB of RAM onboard
Any suggestions much appreciated :-)

Thanks for writing to us.
Below are few other graphics card which are compatible with your system.
nVidia GT220 1GB
nVidia M207 1GB
AMD Radeon HD 5670 1GB
AMD Radeon HD 5450, 1G
You can look for the ports specifications on the vendor website, before you decide on one.
The machine goes with only 300w PSU, so you need not worry about changing the PSU.

Hi all,

I just have a quick question about my notebook's..... integrated graphics *gasp*.
So, basically I've been on http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri quite a bit since I got my new Dell Inspiron laptop just to see what games I can run on it, though I knew from the beginning it wouldn't run any games that were very graphics-heavy. The one thing that confuses me is that the above website constantly tells me my video card isn't up to running a game, but that the individual aspects of my chipset are far above what's necessary. For example when checking to see if I could run Company of Heroes, this is what the website said:

Video Card Minimum: Nvidia GeForce 3 or an ATI Radeon 8500 or equivalent with 64 MB of Video RAM. It must also support Pixel Shader 1.1.

You Have: Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family

Features: Minimum attributes of your Video Card

Required:
Video RAM - 64 MB You have: 1.3GB
3D - Yes You have: Yes
Hardware and T&L: Yes You have: Yes
Pixel Shader version: 1.1 You have: 4.0
Vertex Shader version: 1.1 You have: 4.0

So, can anyone tell me why exactly my video hardware is inadequate when these minimums are being surpassed?

Many thanks,

-Barry

Based on the research and posts here, I installed the recommended NVidia GeForce GT 620 Low Profile graphics card into my system. However, my system will not release the onboard Intel display adapter. There is no place in the BIOS to disable the display adapter, and my BIOS does not recognize there is an adapter in the PCIe slot. I downloaded and installed the latest graphics driver for Windows 10. My system shows two display adapters (Intel and NVIDIA). I disabled the Intel device in Device Manager, rebooted, but my system still doesn't recognize the new card. I am using the DVI connector because of the low profile configuration.
Odd thing is, when I boot the system, just using the new card, it starts up fine, and then the monitor goes blank. it doesn't recognize a digital signal. I purchased this card (pretty cheap cost) in the hopes of upgrading my DirectX capabilities. My Intel driver will not go beyond 11.1, and I need at least 11.3.
Any ideas?

I have bought two different types of graphics cards for my computer that were recomended to me from Dell and neither are working. I am averaging four hours at a time with Dell on the phone and they can't get them to work. The first card I bought was a Geforce 8400 and they said it was a faulty card and sent me a new one. That new card after 4 hours on the phone they said was non-compatible with my computer or my Vista was corrupt. I was getting a blue screen with all kinds of data file errors. Then they recommended an ATI Radeon 2400. I received that and after three and a half hours I was told it was faulty and they are sending me a new one today. My problem is why can't anybody figure this out and get me a card that will work or get my Vista to work. How can I tell if Vista is corrupt?

Some months ago my laptop screen began flickering with vertical bands and other distortions. Dell support thought it was the graphics card--a Mobility Radeon 9000. They said the graphics card was integrated with the motherboard and that it was not customer replaceable--and the cost would be $499 for the repair at Dell. I decided to just live with the weird screen.

But, a few days ago the laptop screen went dark. Oddly when I restarted the screen was lit again but went dark just after Windows XP SP3 started up. I called Dell and it was the same story as before with the out of warranty dept. A guy who seemed to know what he was talking about said that it was not the LCD because although I was able to get a display on an external monitor, the difference in resolution accounted for the dark laptop screen. Again I contemplated whether just lo start using an external monitor all the time.

Then I was checking on the system configuration at the Dell web site and started a chat with a tech rep. He was quite sure that the graphics card and the motherboard are NOT integrated and that the card could be swapped for a new one. He added that this was not something a customer could/should do.

So, what is the real story here? Is it integrated with the MB or not? Can it be swapped or not? If so, is it likely I can do it or get a local techie to do it for less than $500?

Many thanks!

d.

A:Dell Inspiron 8200 graphics card problem

Upon start today the Inspiron display was functioning again--not dark--but the resolution was lower than normal and could not be changed. So, the LCD seems fine, with the graphics card likely worsening.

Guys I messed up real bad... I saved up money for a year to buy this laptop and finally yesterday ordered it in ebay, and afterwards going through the details I noticed it didn't say that it had the gtx 960m video card but rather intel HD graphics built in. The price is the same as the other versions of the laptop with the gtx on eBay and I just happened to be a complete moron not checking twice as I should've and order this particular version http://www.ebay.com/itm/272181768757?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
My question is does it even exist? Dell 7559 without the gtx 960m? It's the same price as the ones with the gtx video card.
I don't even know what to do...

A:Is there a version of the Dell inspiron 7559 without the gtx 960m graphics card?

When you are buying from online Market, you have to double check you are getting an functional complete legit products, and read reviews from many sources before buying a specific products.
In your case, Dell Inspiron 15 7559 was an "Manufacture Refurbished" of returned Inspiron 15 to the factory according to the description.
Thus, read carefully next time, as refurbished are likely "tested" to function as intended. From the page on Ebay you have brought, it might have been a bad buy, so you got rip off for the wrong product if you did not get your refund. Ebay in my view is not too safe, it more of a trade market  versus places where you can buys computer officially. Thus this problem is between you and the seller.

PS: Yeah most I15 7559 model should have Geforce 960M graphic as detail here >http://www.dell.com/us/p/inspiron-15-7559-laptop/pd?ref=PD_OC<.

Specifically One card from ONE vendor.   ASUS EAH 5450.
Some LOW Profile cards WILL NOT FIT.  The ASUS Silent 5450 and 6450 Definitely will.
The low profile must be REALLY low profile or the cover will not go on or the heatsink will prevent the hard drive bracket from going back in or both.

Get an ASUS SILENT RADEON HD 5450.  THE EAH5450 from ASUS fits in ALL Models of GX280 EXCEPT THE USFF Pictured Below.   THE 5450 Comes with 2 sets of brackets for Low Profile or standard slots.
If you have USFF you cannot install ANY card because there are no slots.

Hey guys! It's been a while since I have been on here. Recently I have been having an issue with my old Dell XPS 410 that I have traced back to the graphics card. This is my current setup.

It's a Dell XPS 410 running Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit with Service Pack 1, 2.66ghz Q6700 Core2 Quad, 8gb DDR2 PC2-6400 Ram, Two identical 7200rpm 500gb Seagate Barracuda Hard Drives and an Nvidia GeForce GT 120 with 1gb DDR2 for the graphics card. I have never had any trouble with this set up, but have recently been getting blue screens and believe the graphics card is the cause.

I don't do any major gaming. Emulating Gamecube games (That I actually own but am too lazy to play on the actual Gamecube system) is about as far as I go, so the Nvidia GeForce Gt 120 has actually worked very well for me up until now. Here is a picture of my exact card.

I have been told that the best card that I can currently upgrade to will either be a ATI HD 7750 or an Nvidia GTX650-E. I did a comparison, and out of the two I like the Nvidia better for my own personal reasons.

I'm sure it's probably much more than I actually need, seeing as I don't do any real gaming, but if you can't tell from my current set up, I like the biggest and the baddest. This computer definitely did not come with a Q6700 Core2 Quad in it, and it's definitely more processor than I need.

Anyways, getting to the point. I was told that the Nvidia GTX 650-E was the best my computer could handle because of my power sup... Read more

A:Dell XPS 410 Graphics Card Question

Your power supply does have the PCIe power connector. I had a "cousin" of the XPX410, a Dimension E510 which was also BTX style. The XPS line was the top line Dell consumer models back when they were sold.

The general consensus on the Dell forum by the techies on there was that Dell also tended to underrate power supplies in that era, thus your 375 watt is more like a 400 or 415 watt commercial power supply.

I used to do a lot of support on the Dell forums, thus my familiarity.

As far as what video card to get, you can get many suggestions on that. I've had systems with NVIDIA cards (I currently have one with a GTS450 OC) and ATI Radeon cards. Both worked well. But, I'm not a gamer.

If you want more specific Dell help, here is the link to the Dell Desktop hardware forum, which is mostly users like this forum.

Hello,TechSpot. I am here to ask about an little upgrade I'm getting to replace my Dell Dimension E310's onboard graphics. It's only a 256 MB memory PCI card, but it's all I could afford at the time, and it is being shipped to me,and should arrive at my doorstep in a day or two.

My question is, can I use the default 230W power supply? I can't really get a job(Teenager.),so money is hard to come by for me. I hear that Dell computers have the power supply ports wired differently,so a non-dell power supply could possibly fry the motherboard. Another thing I may ask, will the computer even run at all if this graphics card I bought (The Newegg page for it is posted at the bottom.) is plugged in and enabled? Or will my computer freeze/crash/restart/shut down if it isn't for my power supply?

I really don't know what to do,and I hear power supplies can be somewhat expensive,so I'm not sure if I can use my default one,or do I have to buy one with a higher wattage? If I have no other choice but to earn money and then shell it out for another power supply,if someone could link me or at least specify a good power supply for me,that would be appreciated. I'm not here to edit my computer into anything real special,I just want games that run on the Source engine (Half Life 2,Garry's Mod,Counter--Strike: Source) to not run like garbage, and the possibility of being able to play more games using my PC. Hello everyone I have a very pressing problem. I had Vista running on my Inspiron 1520 Laptop. I recently upgraded to Windows 7, ever since then I have had terrible trouble with my Wireless Card. The driver for the card often comes up as not being able to start I often get Dell Wireless 1390 WLAN Mini-Card can not start Code 10. I have read that this was a problem when reinstalling a OS or installing a new one with this card. I believe I may need a driver for the chip set or something similar. I also understand that I may have to swap back to Vista though I really do hope I don't. I do believe that a recent update from Dell has made this problem chronic as I did not have this problem when I immediately got the laptop back.

I really am hoping that I can get some help here as Dell is not bothered to help as I am out of warranty and they don't seem to care about this older model laptop.

Thanks again for all your help

I tried to install the AMD ATI Catalyst Legacy Display Driver, which installed fine, but I have no display settings in the app or the ability to change the screen resolution normally through Windows. I also cannot plug-in my external monitor. I plug it in, select Devices from the new Windows sidebar on the right side of the screen, and nothing shows up. There is more than one Graphics Driver (three for Intel integrated and two for NVIDIA dedicated) listed for my service tag on the Dell support page.
Which one do I install?  The latest?  All of them?  If all of them, what order (oldest to newest)?
I assume I need to uninstall the one that Windows 10 automatically installed?
This is confusing at best.

A:Graphics Drivers for Dell Inspiron 15 7537

mysqueakycat,
At the Dell Drivers Downloads page for your computer is an option that reads:
Enter your Service Tag or Express Service Code to view your original configuration. Or detect your product to view both configurations.
Once you add your tag or choose to analyze your computer you will be presented with the hardware information for your computer. You can then install the correct drivers.

Hi, I have a DELL Inspiron 5520 with 2 Graphics Cards:

ATI Radeon 7670M & Intel HD 4000

I've installed the drivers required and unfortunately the switchable graphics section in "Catalyst Control Manager" doesn't have an option to manually change the graphics card. It has the option to choose what graphics card a program should use, but that never works. I know that if I find a modded BIOS like in this thread:

Acer Laptop: Switchable Graphics using i7 & AMD Radeon

Then it will work for me, but my problem is that I don't know if that BIOS is specifically for ACER laptops or I can use it on my DELL. If not, I'd appreciate it if someone came up with a BIOS for DELL. Also, I'd like to know what that BIOS has that the original one didn't, please explain. For example, removing whitelist, etc ...

A:Switchable Graphics in DELL Inspiron 5520 Not Working

Y u need to manually switch the graphics card when it can automatically switch according to the requirements??? If u want a program to b run with better graphics, go to switchable graphics, browse the program in it and set priority to high performance...

Thanks for looking and hopefully helping

I have a Dell Inspiron 8600 laptop, with a NVIDIA GeForce FX5650 128mb Graphics Card, and 15.4" SXVGA Screen, running XP Pro. The laptop is 6 yrs. old and about a month ago it started doing weird things, graphically.

The first symptoms were little worms on the screen, while in Windows, moving around in patches, then it progressed to stripes during startup, with intermittent colored stripes, during bios startup, and during login screen, and while running windows. Sometimes it just jumbles the colors and make it really pixilated or fuzzy and freezes the screen.

SO, I figured it was probably the Video Card, (at least that is the cheapest thing to replace) so I bought one on eBay, a GeForce 5200 64mb "tested" card, and it gave me more problems and never got beyond startup. I contacted the seller, he sent a new one (no questions asked) and this one let me get into Windows, but started the same thing again. I contacted him and he quickly refunded my money.

SO, in an attempt to nail down the culprit I plugged the S-Video cable in to my TV, and sure enough the same thing that was on the screen, the colors, the patterns, etc. was on the TV. Now, I am confused as to whether it is the graphics card or the lcd, but common sense tells me it is the graphics card and I would be safe to buy another on eBay (from someone other than last seller).

Does anyone agree with my logic? Or disagree? Or have another way or solution? Thanks ... Read more

Hi Dell Support,

I am having so much problem on this unit. First issue the graphics not responding and now second the loud fan noise! *** is happening to my Laptop. I just buy this laptop Last January 2016 and I am having so much problem on it! Can anyone repair or replace it? Please let me know if I can still replace or repair this laptop!

A:Dell Inspiron 15 5559 Loud Fan Noise and Not Responding Graphics

Hi BONGSKY,
Does the system overheat? Does it stop working or turn off automatically? Are there any bluescreens / system crashes? When did the issue start? When do you encounter the graphics issue? What exactly is the problem with the graphics adapter / driver? What graphics adapter do you have an issue with? Is the issue seen with or without the adapter connected?
Update the BIOS - http://dell.to/1TZqnDE
Download the Intel video drivers from - http://intel.ly/1RdHykJ - for your OS and the AMD drivers from - http://bit.ly/1Lqm0Ld for Windows 8.1 and http://bit.ly/1iqwIba - for Windows 10.
Create a system restore point and then uninstall the existing video drivers from device manager and programs and features - then restart the system and install the Intel Driver first and then the AMD driver next. Should you have any issues during or after installation, you could always restore the system back.
Restart the system and press f12 key on startup - choose diagnostics. Let it run the diags and if you encounter any errors - make a note of the complete error and report the same to us.
If the system is under warranty, then contact us via Twitter - @dellcares for faster communication or write me a private conversation with the service tag and your contact details. If there is no warranty, then we can help with a paid service call if required.
Keep us updated.

A:Which graphics card can I buy for Inspiron N5010

You cannot install a graphics card at all - if the GPU fails, the mainboard has to be replaced.  There is no separate video card - the GPU (whether integrated or discrete) is soldered to the mainboard, and there is no slot for a video card.

Hello,

I'm terrified I've made a big mistake by buying an Inspiron 530s, that's the slim case version of the 530. I hadn't seen a photo and stupidly didn't think through how it being 'slim' would effect the compatability. My wireless card doesn't fit because it's too wide!! Oh god.

So how do I know which graphics card to buy that'll actually FIT the damn thing??

I've read the sticky on what info you all need to help numpties like me out with, and I'm afraid I don't have all of it because the comp in question is just out of the box and doesn't even have XP installed on it yet. Currently on my old Pentium 4 still.

It's an Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 2.66GHz / 3072mb / 2 x 320gb HDs
Power output +12v 17A / input 120v 8A.
I'm afraid I can't see/tell what make of motherboard it is but I'm pretty sure they're PCI slots.
Budget- cheap as possible!
Current graphics is Intel Onboard
Usage is not to game, I don't play any games whatsoever on it. It's to run Adobe CS3 programs simultaneously without lag, multiple windows in Photoshop, render out of After Effects and potentially animate in Maya and render out of that at good working speed. (all whilst still listening to iTunes or Real Player streaming)
So I don't need one that will make me cry, just one powerful enough for me to do whatever I like with those programs and not notice how hard my PC is working.

Ok foolishly i bought a nvidia geforce 5200 graphics card and i'm not totally sure whether it is compatible for my laptop or not

i looked and looked on the net before i sent off for it but there was nothing coming up about anything whether the card is compatible or not so i assumed there were no problems and bought it anyway .. now is arrived in the post and i need to know whether i have to send it back with an apology or if it can indeed be installed to replace a particular internal graphics card.

if it is compatible do i need to take it to somewhere like pcworld to have it installed or is the installation that easy that i could do it myself... i really really dont want to mess my laptop up XD i'd rather have no card..

the reason i bought the card is because hte laptop isnt good enough to support sims games and when i first bought this i got sims 2 castaway with it too and it never works because ... .well i just know its because the graphics are slow due to other pc games being slow and non responsive also.

I would so appreciate the help if anyone could just tell me... will the card work XD

also sorry for sounding like such a noob about laptops and hardware for them.

Hi please PM us the system tag# as requested, we will see into it. Only if the drivers are installed the device manager will list both the Intel HD and the NVidia (if opted at the point of sale) , even if the intel drivers are not installed it will show generic display drivers under display adapters.

It doesn't have to be the most amazing stellar quality card out there since iv had (some) people tell me that you cant upgrade these PCs much. But just some good quality advice on the subject and maybe a recommendation on what card brand to get as well as the specs for it. Also a recommendation for a video card would be greatly appreciated as well. Sorry for my ignorance on on the subject, i am new to the PC world. ok, so I know it's a long-shot that anyone out there has one, let alone has swapped out the RAM but I have an Inspiron 1545 (hey, it was cheap, wasnt even sure how much I'd use it), came with Win7x64 and 4gb RAM, my manual says 8gb max, nothing else does, everything else (crucial, dell upgrades, etc) says 4gb max.

Now, not sure I even really have a need for it but since I'll probably end up editing video from my camcorder on the laptop, maybe that would use it (plus, I figure GiMP probably likes as much RAM as it can get).

So, anyone know if it will take 8gb? I mean I suppose I could just order it and if it doesnt work, pay the restocking fee and return it. cant even imagine the desktop one could build these days.

(on a side note, we may be switching to Revit at work and if we do, I'm pushing for at least 12gb and quad core)

I found 2 Dell Inspiron 1100 laptop's in a yard sale (they are identical). I got a good deal on them. 1 did work 100%. The 2nd one worked 100% but only on the battery. The 2nd one has a problem with the charging circuit, the 2nd laptop won't charge the battery and won't run off the ac power pack.
The 1st laptop the video has stopped working. There is nothing on the lcd screen or an external monitor. But the cpu fan turns, the dvd drive does it's thing on start up, I can hear the hard drive working and the lights are normal. I tried swapping out both the video card and the cpu from the 2nd Dell laptop. That didn't fix the problem. I ordered a 1100 mother board from Ebay (old stock, never opened, never used) That mother board arrived Sept 3rd. Still the same problem. Nothing on ether screen. But the rest of the laptop works. The Ebay seller sent an other mother board out. That mother board arrived today (Sept-9th). I still have the same problem. I am beating my head on a brick wall on this one. I need some help.

A:a question about a dell inspiron 1100

Considering the fact they are both 10 years old it would of been a much better deal if they were both in working order.due to the ages i really dont think either one is worth fixing and putting more money and parts into them might be a lesson in futility.i think all you can do is either save or sell the ram, hard drives, and cd drives and any other parts if they still work to maybe use in another dell laptop in the future.

Hi All,
I have a dell inspiron 9200, and the power connector is loose, so I opened up the unit to see if I could fix it. Well, I couldn't do anything, so I put the laptop back together, making sure everything was correctly connected,. etc.....
Heres the issue:
When I try to turn it on, one of the icons on the unit blinks, and thats it. It won't do anything else...
The icon looks like a lock with a capital "A" in it.
Can anyone help me out?

A:dell inspiron 9200 question

That's your Caps Lock icon - and when its blinking, you probably didn't put the keyboard back on right.

As for the power connector, if it's a motherboard mounted one, you've probably melted the solder off the terminals - unless you know how to handle an extra-fine soldering iron, I'd let a pro handle that fix. Sometimes, if you can just give them the board and ask them to solder that piece, you can swing a deal on the costs (since having one of them open a case and do the entire deal would be expencive).

Does anyone know if whether or not I can take the harddrive out of my Dell Inspiron 2650 and put it into another Dell and FORMAT it, install XP, and put it back into my laptop? I dont see why not but I want to ask first...

Thanks

A:Question about DELL INSPIRON Harddrive??

The drive is a common laptop drive. So technically it could go in any laptop or even a desktop.

You will run into a problem if you install XP, or any operating system, on it and then trasnfer it to another system. If the hardware is different you'll get errors, have to reinstall drivers, or it won't boot at all. If they are the same then you should be OK to do that, although don't activate XP until the drive is back in the system it belongs to.

Now for my question. Why do you need to do this?

I have an Inspiron One 2320.  I was trying to connect a TV as a second monitor.  To my surprise the HDMI port on the computer is a HDMI input port.  Am I reading correctly?  Can someone please help me and confirm that I can't use that HDMI port for connection to the TV ?
If it is in fact a HDMI input, what is it really for?  What devices that need a HDMI port to send signal to the computer.
I am so confuse with it and to why even make a HDMI input and not a HDMI output?
Thanks in advance

A:Dell Inspiron One HDMI question

I have an Inspiron One 2330 Touch.
It also has an HDMI port ... A HDMI-IN port. That would be for something like a Blu-Ray player, Cable Box or DVR, HDMI amp output, tablet ... something like that ... like the Inspiron is a simple monitor or a HDTV.
I was also surprised the only video output was a 15-pin VGA. Maybe the next model will have a DVI output. At least that way, either natively or with an inexpensive converter ... you can drive DVI, VGA, or even HDMI (with no sound). DisplayPort would be another versatile possibility.
In your case ... if your model doesn't have a VGA output (or your second monitor doesn't have a VGA Input) ... you should be able to get a "USB video card".

thanks in advance...Pete

A:Question s about overclocking a dell Inspiron...

I've edited your post. Your color, font, and URL code was incorrect and as a result was just cluttering your post making it hard to read. If you wish to use code the easy way to do it is to use the icons above the Reply box or go to the Advanced message composer if you wish to use different fonts. But in most cases extra formatting is not needed.

As for upgrading the CPU or overclocking the CPU, both are not a good idea on a laptop. There's no guarantee a CPU will be supported by the motherboard or BIOS, or that the existing cooling will be adequate, or that the laptop will be able to supply enough power for a higher end processor. Laptop manufacturer's generally do not support such upgrades or offer limited upgrades early in a systems production, your laptop is quite old, from 2004. So yes its very likely that the laptop will not support anything over 2.8Ghz or much anything even clocked lower if Dell has chosen not to support it. Be aware that there can be several models of what seems to be the same processor, and some may be supported and others not. Here's a site I found that lists parts: http://www.bay-wolf.com/parts_insp1150.htm

Will this upgrade be worth it? Not likely unless its really cheap, you go to the max or very near to it, and you do the install yourself.

I have an Inspiron 560, currently using the on-board graphics (Intel G45/G43).  I found an old Radeon PCI video card so I though i could install it and use a second monitor (this is just a business computer -- no gaming or anything).
When I installed the PCI card the system seemed to disable the on-board graphics and I can't find a way to have both on at the same time.
This old card may make my system run slower, I'm not sure, but I thought I'd give it a shot.  Any ideas on how I can have both on together?
FYI I'm running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit
Thanks

A:Dual Monitors on Inspiron 560 with on-board graphics & PCI card?

Hi BulkHedd,Enabling both onboard video card and discrete video card is not available for this system. The on-board Intel video won't support two monitors with separate (different) screens because you have only one VGA output on the PC. Please let me know the exact video card you are using to assist you better.

I have a 3847 with intel integrated graphics. For video editing I would like to add video card. Chat with Dell rep he suggested a PNY XLR8 GEForce 750 Ti so I bought one.
Looking at threads here appears I want (need) a new power supply since the one in my computer is 300 watts. What I read is that I want to purchase a Corsair cs750.
Do I have my facts straight?
Thanks in advance for help and feedback.

A:inspiron 3847 wants graphics card and looks like new power supply too?

Hi kingqueens3,
PNY XLR8 GEForce 750 Ti would require only 300 watts PSU on the system. You need not upgrade the PSU.

Ok, I wanna see if I get a different answer. My laptop is about a year old and when I went to turn it on yesterday morning it wouldn't turn on without the powerpack plugged in. So I plugged it in and it worked. But the battery light is blinking non-stop(orange warning light). I took out the battery and put it back in and nothing changed. I pushed the battery life button on the bottom of the battery itself and there are 5 lights but only the 1st,middle, and last light, lights up and blinks. What is the problem? Is it a dead battery?

Hi

I am guessing that there are some bad cells in the battery, If its a year old try ringing Dell direct and ask them, it may still be a warrantied item.

However if you bought it second hand then Dell wont deal with it and your only course is to buy a new battery.

There should be software that supports this feature for your laptop, you should be able to find the driver from them. Here is the link to the Dell Site.

I bought crysis 2 yesterday, it runs but very laggy. I was wondering if I could change my video card on my laptop so it can run better. All the places Ive checked say it might be on the motherboard, so I would have to purchase a new motherboard with a better graphics card. Unfortunately I just got my laptop 3 months ago and I rather just keep it the same. Please someone help me and tell me if i can replace the video card without changing anything else, I also decided to change my ram to 8 rather than keep my 4.

A:dell inspiron 17r 2nd gen video card change?

You can't change/upgrade the video adapter on a laptop.

Unless you are running a 64-bit version of Windows, increasing the RAM from 4GB to 8GB will serve no useful purpose because 32-bit Windows cannot address more than 4GB (3.25GB to be exact). So unless you intend to upgrade your OS to 64-bit, you've just wasted your money on RAM that won't be doing anything.

Okay guys, i have been to many different forums and no one can find an answer for me. I recently deleted all partitions on my laptop and created a NFTS partition to install Windows xp media center on (the cd that originally came with the computer.) Before i did this, everything was working perfectly. Now, my wireless card will not pick up signals. When i turn on the wifi by pressing fn+f2 it says the wireless is on but the light does not light up next to the bluetooth (the bluetooth turns on and off properly when i press fn+f2. I believe that all necessary drivers have been installed and in the correct order. There isn't even a connnection in the network connections.

This is getting extremely fustrated because i have done this process many times on other computers, but i can't get this to work.

A few days I ago I bought the Inspiron 580 with the i3-550 processor at a good price at one of the local stores that is close to my home. I really don't want to use the onboard video card because its does a poor job for cleaning up streaming video on the internet. I would like to know what video card is recommended for my use. I want a entry level dedicated video card that has decent video processing and also I want to know if there is a way to disable the onboard video when I get a new video card?

A:Dell Inspiron 580: Which Video Card Upgrade

gregpod9 I want a entry level dedicated video card that has decent video processing
You get what you pay for, an "entry level" video card may not be any better than the on-board video, if that is the real problem with streaming video.
The 580 has a PCIeX16 slot for an add on video card.  The stock power supply is only a 300 watt which will somewhat limit you on choices of "HD Video" cards.  The manual does not detail it, that I can find, but on most the BIOS will autodetect a PCIeX16 slot video card and make that the default.  On models that do not autodetect, you can manually change that in the Setup (F2 at POST to access the Setup (BIOS)).

I have been up for 14 hours working on this issue, and I am almost to the point of tears now.

I reset my Dell Inspiron 570 to Factory Settings, and the Ethernet controller needed a driver, so I installed the proper driver & chipset, and tried over, and over, and over. Nothing worked, the card is enabled in the Bios, I have tried over 10 different drivers, I have tried everything I can think of.

A:Dell Inspiron 570 - Ethernet Card Issues

Always include the version of Windows in your posts.
Exactly what symptoms are you seeing?
Did you install the chipset driver(s) before you installed the network driver? Unless the chipset is installed first, other drivers may not install or may not work. And if you've installed 10 different drivers, you probably created a mess.
Did you check the Ethernet link status LEDs on rear of the PC?
Did you run the Windows Network setup utility to create the network after installing the drivers? Did you try rebooting the modem and/or router after installing the drivers on the PC?
And just to be clear, you're using a wired connection to your modem or router, not a WiFi connection...?

Here is what's missing according to the device manager:

Network controller (wireless card I assume)
SM Bus Controller
I have downloaded all the "recommended" drivers according to the dell support system, to no avail. Im curious if anyone else has ever run into this? I have never had this kind of issue. Either windows upate finds it or the driver is available.

Hi,
I have a Dell Inspiron 530 desktop computer. We had it hooked up to wireless all most a year ago. Then we hooked it up via Ethernet cable. After a move, I am trying to hook it up via wireless. (Our cable hookup is two rooms over) The computer doesn't detect a wireless card. We bought the computer with an Internal PCI 802.11g wireless network card, Full Height. The antenna is hooked up into the back of the computer. I bought a 50" Ethernet cable to hook up the computer to download current drivers. After downloading the drivers from Dell, I still cannot find the wireless card on the computer. In device manager under network adapters I only show Intel(R) 82562V-2 10/100 Network Connection. I tried to see if the wireless was turned on, but the only thing I find on the internet about turning it on is to press (Fn) and (F2) together. My keyboard does not have a function button. Also, I am hooked up wirelessly right now on my laptop. The wireless signal is strong. Any help would be great! Thanks!

A:Dell Inspiron 530 can't pick up wireless card

Well, if you don't see the wireless card either under Network adapters or perhaps Other Devices with an error, it's not being sensed by the BIOS POST.

Have you reseated the wireless card?

This is my second one just hours old. The first one I had was a 5559, but had 4gb ram and 500gb hdd. That one Microsoft Edge would not launch, and kept crashing. BRAND NEW OUT OF THE BOX. I did a recovery and reset it as it was when dell shipped it and same exact issue. I took it back to frys they couldn't even fix it. I exchanged it for this new one which is a Dell Inspiron 5559 15" same specs as the other but has lighted keyboard, 8gb Ram, 1TB hdd, without touch.

DELL, What is going on? I need this resolved ASAP. This happens when web surfing and even just in general windows. No other applications have been installed except McAfee and Word 2013, but is not running.
I'm not understanding what is going on when this occurs not even 24 hours out of the box. Windows 10 has showed that message 8 times while typing this message.

Hello, and thank you for checking out my post.  My apologies for writing a book, but I'm hoping to give as much detail as needed the first go round. I just received my custom-built T420s (4170-CTO) and have a couple technical questions/concerns about it.  The details of my configuration are located at the bottom of this post. First off, one of the deciding factors of my purchase was the discrete graphics card.  On the T420s I chose NVIDIA NVS 4200M Optimus Graphics 1GB, Intel Core i7-2620M Processor?.  I was thrilled to have more than 256 MB of dedicated graphics memory for my games.  Upon receiving my laptop, though, I ran the Windows Experience Index and saw that the lowest score was the graphics card, which is identified as Intel HD Graphics Family and has 64 MB of dedicated graphics memory.  After my heart started beating again I checked Device Manager and found under Display both Intel HD Graphics Family and NVIDIA NVS 4200M listed as working with up-to-date drivers.  When I configured the laptop online there was no mention of hybrid graphics, so I'm not sure why I have an Intel Graphics card on the machine.  My current laptop that I was looking to replace is a T61p with a NVIDIA Quadro FX 570M graphics card, and only that NVIDIA card is shown under Device Manager and in the Windows Experience / Performance Information.  Thinking that perhaps disabling the Intel card would cause the NVIDIA card to take over, I disa... Tonight I formatted and re-installed XP on my machine. After re-installing everything, and fudging around with the resources CD Dell gave me (I installed what I think is everything; I see nothing relating to video drivers), I noticed something was wrong with my video settings. I only have two resolution settings: 800x600 and 1024x768.

I have tried everything from Windows Update (which on a fresh install only gave me 18 updates, all critical--just security stuff) to getting the latest drivers from NVidia. I believe my card is a mobile FX5200 GO. The card isn't showing up on my device manager at all. I think the problem has to do with my Video Controller, which is showing up as not installed. When I try to install it via the New Hardware Found utility, it says the drivers cannot be found neither on Windows or my resources CD.

Any help is appreciated, I would like to skip having to call Dell.
