i have 2GB ram, intel duo core 2X1.60GHz cpu and 512mb nvidia grafics card but any big games i download to play only work for 1-4 mins then crash my comp so i have to completely restart it plz help
Help! See the title.
I'm going mad because I can't listen to music! I've tried three different mediaplayers (Windows Media Player, VLC & QuickTime) and all three just don't work! WMP won't even play the files, VLC will (in .avi-case even with picture!) but there won't be sound :/. Same for QuickTime,...
Now, the weird thing is that I can play games without a problem and the sound's still there! Hell, even sounds made by Windows -- I hear 'em! YouTube works too!
I'm concerned there might be something wrong in the registry,... (I use Eusing Free Registry Cleaner/Defrag regularly, I guess something was bound to go wrong,...)
Please, help? :(
(Windows 7, btw.)
Apparently I made a mistake,... Sound in games doesn't work* System sounds and YouTube do, though.3 more replies
This problem has occurred "somewhat"(I don't know when exactly) recently. I used to be able to play full screen games just fine but now (for some reason), everytime I launch a full screen game, it auto minimizes.
When I alt+tab back(or click the game icon on the task bar), it remaximizes the game but quickly gets minimized after a second.
Games play fine while in "windowed" mode(Warcraft 3, etc).. Full screen keeps minimizing.
I use Windows Vista Ultimate (64 bit):
Nvidia GeForce 8300(onboard video card).
I've done scans with Avast, Malware Bytes, and Super Antispyware and they all found nothing.
Three months ago(same system), full screen games played fine however I was on sort of a "full screen" gaming break, so I only recently tried playing full screen games like Warcraft 3 and this is when I encountered the "auto minimizes" problem.
The only major difference(between the time full screen games worked and now) is Avast 5. I upgraded from Avast 4.8 to Avast 5, other than that, there were no other major changes with the computer I am on.
Avast 5 is on Silent/Gaming mode, and I tried disabling all the shields temporarily to see if it would fix the issue but it didn't.
Does anyone have any ideas(or need anymore info that may help)? Any help will be appreciated, thanks.
Edit: I found a solution(though still looking if there is another way to "fix" this issue) - Right click on a program shortcut(or progr... Read more
I was under the impression Vista was supposed to automatically download game information from allgame.com and display the game's information when you click on the thumbnail? My Vista hasn't done that since I installed BF2 and I haven't been able to manually add information using VGEE because I accidentally deleted the BF2 information and haven't been able to get another games information to show up since!
It was my understanding that only games with the "Games for Windows" tag will show up in the games folder like you are talking about. I could be wrong tho.10 more replies
I got rid of the WildTangent games console that came on my Toshiba computer, however, the games still show up. I have carefully removed registry entries related to it(making a backup of the registry) and they still remain. I have also used Revo Uninstaller Pro and removed what it found. What am I doing wrong, I know they aren't doing me any harm, but they annoy the @!#$$ out of me.

Does anyone know how to keep the Vista Games Explorer from automatically adding entries for games? I currently have a completely empty VGE and upon launching any of my games via double-clicking their exe, VGE creates a new entry once the game is closed. I already unchecked both "Download information about installed games" and "List most recently played games" in the VGE options window but that didn't help. I have a third party program that lets me add my own custom entries so obviously I'd like to add them manually so I have more control over fine details. I know that the automatically-created entries can be hidden after the fact, but that really clutters up the third party editor since it displays all games in its list, hidden or otherwise. Any thoughts?

I started getting BSOD in August, but I fixed it on Sept 9th by updating my ethernet card. And my computer worked fine until an unexpected shutdown last night which was followed by a bunch of 0x9F problems, then 0x116 when I started up any game. I already did a disk check with /f and /r, and sfc /scannow. I also "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered" error in Windows 7 or Windows Vista did this in which I changed the TdrDelay to 8. I had the latest graphic driver, but I went back a version of the driver to see if that solved anything, but it didnt. Attached is a couple of my blue screen reports. Any help is appreciated!

Hello, I try to play old and new Games on the HP ZBook 15 G2 but each time between 2 - 15 minutes the Game freezes while the sound is still playing for at least 5 minutes until I can play further. It seems like the graphics card is buffering something like on a Video stream until I can continue playing. The Games work perfectly before and after this kind of game freeze. Is this a known issue? What could be the issue? Usually Games should either lag, being slower with less fps, have screen tearing, etc. but somehow buffer a Game for minutes until it works completely fine again is new to me. The same Games work on a much less performant HP 840 G1 Notebook but of course I need to turn down the graphics options depending on the Game. What is also odd it seems in general there are issues with using ALT+TAB to get to Windows while in a Game which works fine on my other PC. Hardware: Intel Core i7-4810MQ CPU, 16GB RAM, Intel HD Graphics 4600 and NVIDIA Quadro K2100M What I tried:I installed the latest Windows 10 64-Bit Version with all updates, used the HP Support Assistant Tool to install every Update it found. After the issue still there I later tried to install the latest Intel Graphics Driver from the Intel website (126.96.36.19983 from July 2016), the latest Nvidia Driver from the Nvidia website from the stable branch 188.8.131.5263 from October 21st 2016. Could anyone help me with this? I'll experience random, what seems to feel like, lag spikes, which aren't actually lag spikes while playing games. I'd be playing in offline mode against the computer and I'd have smooth gameplay for minutes before hitting this "lag spike" which would last minutes before it goes back to normal gameplay for a few minutes and then back to a lag spike, and this cycle would continue. This is for games that are extremely below my computer specs as well, so far, this has occurred with TF2 and alien swarm. my drivers are all updated, is this perhaps a software problem since problems with playing games only occurred once i went from windows XP to windows Vista months ago.
I just updated and rebuilt my PC and have reinstalled Win 7 64 bit and am constantly getting a BSOD while using the PC. Specifically while downloading/installing/playing games. I have also had the error occur just while surfing the internet.
From the program Blue Screen Viewer it seems to be caused by ntoskrnl.exe+7f1c0 and/or ntoskrnl.exe+7e769
I can not find any solution to fix this issue, I have updated drivers, I have ran the Microsoft memory checker, , I have changed out my memory, tried 2 other video cards, tried two different wireless network cards, now on wired connection, I even changed motherboards, got the errors on both SSD and HDD. The only things I haven't changed out is the PS and CPU, since I am using the PC to write this I am ruling out the CPU as the issue.
I have used Memtest86 and prime95 to test the memory and CPU, nothing is coming back with errors or issues. I did run driver verifier and got two .dmp files for some specific files but not sure what to do with those now. They are included in the attachement
It seems to be software/driver issue but I can not figure it out.
Any help would be great, thanks!
Your reports are not definitive and educated guess says that this is the cause of your problem
What is the asushwio.sys file?
Make a system restore point and then uninstall the associated software or update driver.

try reinstalling your directx
try finding a stable or updated driver set for your video card.
I recently upgraded my pc and got my hands on a copy of xp pro. The clean installation went fine and all the aplications work. The problem is with my games - all of them! i installed:
Soldier of Fortue 2
Return to castle wolfenstien
jedi outcast 2
They all load up fine and you can muck about in the menu, settings etc and watch the intro sequences (if any). It;s just went your about to get actual control of your character and play the game it freezes and says sorry this program needs to close etc. I have downloaded all windows updates and tried to reinstall but the same message appears. Also downloaded the latest (as far as i am aware) display, direct x, nividia drivers, open gl then reinstalled the games but it still dosen't work. I just can work it out - can anyone provide me with some help?

It's been a question on my mind for quite a while now. How exactly do (3D) games work in the aspect of the movement? I'm sure that every part of the game's scenary is a 2D image. Does it work something like when a player moves (lets say +0.1) would all the images go -0.1, or something completely different?
The scenery is 2D textures attached to a multitude of 3D planes, there is a player viewpoint and direction that determines which of those planes are visible and in which 'ratio', near (more so in games with more complicated models, with more planes) to the way we see things in real life.
I've always wondered, how do 3D games work? From what I gather, the developers spend months writing really really complex libraries, where they colour individual pixels, using tons of maths? Could somebody explain it in a bit more detail? Are there some native functions for colouring pixels, that work with the Windows API?

Hi all. I have a lot of games that can be played in either a windowed mode or in the full-screen mode. In the past, I never had a problem playing any of them in either mode. However, starting in the last couple of weeks, I've had problems with a few of them in the full-screen mode. As soon as I try to play them, I get the dreaded BSOD which has a stop error of "stop: 0x0000008E". With a little research, I found out that it's a "KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED" type of problem. But that's all I know about it. I am running Win XP Pro. I have already updated my BIOS and graphics adapter drivers and the problem still persists. What's funny is that some of my games have no problems at all running in the full-screen mode. Does anyone have any advice as to what the problem might be? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.

I've been trying to run any type of 3D game and they will not run corrrectly. I've tried CS:S nothing, Oblivion, nothing, and they load with all the sounds but no video. Could it be my graphics drivers?

There used to be a patch that enabled the Windows 7 stock games to work in W8. I'd say that was less than a year ago. It worked for my first W8 pc.
I just tried that on a new 64bit W8 install of mine and it didn't work this time.
Has anyone visited this?
Is there another work-around?
I love my Hearts and Spider Solitaire.
Please use the search function next time or just look a bit closer, as there is already another thread on page-1:
After getting my new graphic card, NONE OF MY GAMES WORK. NONE!!!!!!
I'm extremely mad right now, because my dad went and payed 200$ just for a god damn new one, and I'm afraid to tell him that it wont work..
Another thing that wont work is the "Stand By" option when you do Start>Turn off computer.
Everything was working just fine, before getting this stupid graphic card...
Someone please help. I really need help.

Hi all, I have a PC problem I was wondering you could help me with.
I can't play any games. I had daemon and alcohol on my pc when I installed BIA. I have the original disk. When I finished installing the game I could play it. But after a few gaming session I couldn't play the game. No error messagese. I can hear the disk spinning and the hour glass comes up next to the mouse pointer for a few seconds. But thats it. I thought maybe the game picked up that daemon and alcohol is installed on my pc. So I uninstalled alcohol and daemon and deleted the virtual drives. I reinstalled BIA and started playing, no probz. But after a few gaming sessions, the same problem. I installed other games, I got the problems. I then discover I have a virus/worm. I googled it and found a solution. Its the bad1/2/3.exe virus.
I just want to know, if I remove this virus, will my games start working? Can this virus be the cause of my games not working?
Very possible. Get rid of it ASAP.
Every time I try and run my games the just stop and I am back at my desk top and sometimes it happens when I try to use the keyboard during the game. Any thoughts please help and merry christmas.
See the other post:
i downloaded lego digital designer and when i click on it to open it nothing happens
and when i try to play disneys toontown online it loads and then when i click to start playing it gets really slow and usually exits itself before i can start playing the game and when it works(sometimes) it only lets me play for like a minute and then freezes and exits itself or just exits itself without freezing
Edit:i think i posted this in the wrong place

Go to Control Panel | System. Hardware. Device Manager. Look under Audio for the name of your sound card. What is it? Also, click on Properties and then Driver. Whats is the name and version?
And looking here:

Looks like it may be something else, but if you could confirm the drivers first.
What version of DirectX have you got? Go to Run and type DXDIAG
In the first tab will be the version number.
Also, have you got the Win2000 patch for Games?
and click Product Updates.
I wasn't sure which forum to put this but here goes.
About a week ago i had to reload Vista on my computer, prior to that almost all the games I have worked to some degree. Granted some of the game have come out more than 8 years ago games like Nocturne, the Tex Murphy games, etc... Anyway, now the game do not work. They install just fine, as far as I know. But when I go to play any of the games, the same thing will come up for almost all of them. Whichever game it is, will say it has stopped working.
Outside of reloading vista I haven't hardware or any other programs on my computer. I've had to reload vista a couple of times before and my games would work just fine after having reinstalled them.
If more info is needed from me, let me know I'll be happy to oblige.
Someone please help me, I love playing the games and I don't want to have to trash them.

I dont' know about other games but apparently The Curse of Monkey Island, (which was made to run in windows 98 or 95) will not run in xp. I could not install the game, as when I tried running setup.exe it gave me a message saying "The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS abd Microsoft applications." My response to this problem were as follows:
1. Run it in windows compadabiliy mode. I tried it in both 98 and 95 with all boxes checked but it gave me an error message of "SETUP.EXE is not a valid win32 application"
2. Search online for something. I found a program called scummvm that supposedly fixed it but it required installation of the game.
My latest idea was to find someone still running an older version of windows, install the game, copy the program files onto a disc and put it on my computer, then try scumm or somethin else to try to get it to work. But this would be hard and annoying to do.
If anyone can help me out my specs are:

I am completely new to Windows 8 since I installed it today, and when I went into the X-Box games app, I couldn?t see any of my purchased games from GFWL, what gives? It would only seem logical or doesn?t it?
Well, yeah I was hoping that would happen but at this time there is no merging yet but maybe in the future.
The Xbox games app shows your profile and scores and that is about it. I figure the reason is the games you bought are not Metro Apps which still uses a Client. Maybe the Client would be updated to Xbox Games instead since the client is not in the metro app thing.
I can say the Client works:

4GB DDR3 RAM
Intel 4500MHD GPU
A 12.1 inch screen, so GPU will have little pressure.
and a 250 GB hdd for what its worth...
I'm not getting it as a gaming computer, and not expecting much, but would love some estimates.

Hello, first time poster looking for help as I can't diagnose my issue after trying numerous things. Currently when I play a game the BSOD happens randomly, I can go a whole day without it, or it can happen frequently. It happens the most when I close or exit a game, then it'll kick to a blue screen.
I really appreciate what you guys do and I hope I followed all the instructions right on how to post my logs and stuff, here's the attachment and some basic system specs:
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x64
I have reinstalled to this computer numerous times.
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad q9550 @ 2.83 ghz

Motherboard: p5n32-e sli nforce 680i chipset
Before we can even begin to find the underlying cause you need to update the following drivers. Especially asacpi.sys. Yours is from 2005
ASACPI.sys 3/27/2005 10:30:36 PM
Lycosa.sys 1/18/2008 4:51:42 AM
nvm62x64.sys 10/17/2008 5:01:06 PM
netr28x.sys 2/25/2009 11:02:09 PM
How To Find Drivers:
- search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).
- if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone will try and help you locate the appropriate program.
- - The most common drivers are listed on this page: Driver Reference Driver Reference

My CPU usage goes up to 100% which I haven't noticed happening before, temps have not increased. Memory is at 30-40% usage.-Checked drivers and updated-Ran memory tests and checked for memory leaks, returns nothing-Ran tests on hard drives, no issues-Checked temps, all normal-Ran torture tests on CPU, no problems-Formatted hard drives and reinstalled OS and games to test, problem persisted-Checked all connections-Cleaned inside and out thoroughlyCPU, Motherboard, HDD, and RAM are all about 5 years old. Everything else has been replaced within the last year.Thank you.More replies
I recently made a new PC build, everything went fine and all drivers are up to date and the latest. However when playing ANY game in fullscreen i sometimes get a BSOD and if i Alt+Tab our of one it will 90% of the time BSOD. Latest 3b is the BCCode that i get, i have tried sweeping and reinstalling graphics drivers however this did not work. This problem doesn't happen with anything else and does not crash if i play in windowed or border-less, however i use a crossfire setup so i need to use fullscreen to use both GPUs.
Any and all help is appreciated.

I downloaded some great games from Fizzual.com. Although the graphics and sound are working fine, I can't get either my gamepad or keyboard to move the character. It will only move it forward, but not back or side to side. I tried redownloading the game, but it still won't work.
If you can help me, please use simple terms (computer dummy here)
Thanks so much for any help you can give me.
Try looking in those little bars at the top of the screen, and search for somthing labled settings, controlers, input devices, etc. and make sure all the controlers are set up correctly.

I've had no problems getting FRAPS to work with games such as Guild Wars or Warcraft III, but when I try any of: Warcraft II, Starcraft, or Warcraft [the first], fraps doesn't seem to recognize them. Is there anyway to fix this, or another program I might consider?

Hello, my friend recently encountered a problem where his computer will not allow him to run any sort of game. He has been gaming on it for a few years now and hasn't had a problem like this before. His computer allows him to get on the internet and browse sites, but when he tries to use it for anything else it just doesn't load. When he double clicks on the shortcut(s) no action is taken, even if ran as administrator. Thanks for any help, it's much appreciated!
Go directly to \Program files folder and see if games will run by 2-clicking on the game's EXE file.3 more replies
i've downloaded a couple games rectently (age of mythology, and Warcraft 3).
i know that they are the full games, and i've extracted them properly usign ISO Buster. However, for AOM, the second disc is needed to be in the E:/ drive to complete installation. For Warcraft 3, the disc has to be in the drive to play the game.
so, i burned the files to discs and put them in, but the games won't recognize that the cds are there, and continue to tell me to make sure that the disc is in my E:/ drive.
i've asked some people about it and they've told me to re-burn the discs and name the disc properly, but that still isn't working.
so, any ideas about what i may be doing wrong, or what i can do to make the games work?
both games are illegally pirated software, it is against the forum rules
I love playing games, it is part of my life and me making money. I am currently running Windows XP. For some reason, whenever I download a game, (Maple Story, Battlefield 1942, Combat Arms, ect) it (the application) goes to a plain black screen for 2-10 seconds and returns to the desktop page. The games already loaded, (Pinball 3-D, Minesweeper, ect) work. Even something as simple as Roblox doesn't run. Help me please.

I have installed a ps3 controller to my computer, it connects through bluetooth, Windows 7 recognises the controller and all the buttons/axis work. But when i run Call of duty MW2, Anyone have any ideas how to fix? PS ; I run the game through steam, it works perfectly through mouse and keyboard, i would prefer the controller to be the input device.
The info I have found says emphatically the PC CoD MW2 does NOT support the PS3 game controller.
There is an add-on routine that allows mapping of the PS3 controller to keyboard inputs so it'll (supposedly) work.
Go here -> http://xpadder.com/ and read on their forums and do some other research FIRST.

check in device manager or system information ?
long time lurker... first time poster. You guys seem like you always know what you're doing... so here is a bugger of a problem for ya. Long story short, I recently moved to south korea and brought my BFG 6600gt with me to throw in a system over here. Get here, get my system set up (specs below) and I get home to start playing some games. I install windows/mobo drivers (AGP, LAN, etc) and then reboot and install the vid card drivers. Reboot again, expectin gthe "New hardware found msg" but don't see it. Meh, I figure to myself... seems to have installed alright. So, I go ahead and install a few games along with directx and game won't work (all Valve games to be specific, HL2, Lost Coast, CSS). Install FEAR, and I get a "Unable to enable proper video mode" or some such thing like that. Anyway, I reformat and go through the whole process again... same errors. BUGGER! So, I open up dxdiag to test my direct3D settings and I get this:
No problems found.
DirectDraw test results: All tests were successful.
Direct3D 7 test results: All tests were successful.
Direct3D 8 test results: Failure at step 6 (No hardware supported display modes found): HRESULT = 0x80004005 (Generic failure)
Direct3D 9 test results: Failure at step 6 (No hardware supported display modes found): HRESULT = 0x80004005 (Generic failure)
Soo... seems like D3D 8 and 9 are broken... whatever that means. Why is this? I am also getting the device showing up as a ... Read more

I used to be able to play games on my computer just fine, then my computer crashed and i had to get a new hard drive. after my father reinstalled vista and all of the drivers, the games didn't work.
some games i played are:
star wars battle front ~ used to work, now when i start it, it appears in the task bar, but it doesn't show up and my mouse disappears
NWN ~ it just doesn't show up when started
Second Life Viewer 2 ~ only gets to "Initializing VFS" and freezes.
Second Life Viewer 1.23 ~ finishes loading but doesn't show up, it appears in the processes tab on the task manager though
also Second life works on my friends computer (we both have the same computer)
though i haven't tried the other games
I have tried, on all games, uninstalling and reinstalling
Make sure you have the correct drivers for your video card installed and download
the latest directx version.
Got a new comp, games won't work... please help
I recently bought a new computer, has 512 RAM, AMD Anthlon 2500+ (1830 MHz) and a 70 GB Hard drive, video card is an onboard one, an SiS one: Plug and Play Monitor on SiS 650/651/740/661FX/741/760 Series.
Now here is my problem, I've tried a few games : Alien vs Predator 2, Warcraft 3 the Frozen Throne, and World of Warcraft.
The games either get an error, or the computer just restarts itself all together without any notification, and I try the game again, few mins into it, happens again... This really frustrates me, I contacted the comps technical support and I haven't got any answer yet, so I'm trying here because this is my bros new comp and I just feel really bad for him right now.
I need to know what can cause this, can it be the card? I tried to look for updated drivers, but I don't know what model it is and I tried the site and just coundl't figure it out, I also got dirext x9c. Anyways can the restarting and errors be from the video card? Could it be because the drivers arent updated, if there is an update? Can installing a new video card fix this problem? I really need some help guys...Thanks in advance. All suggestions are welcomed.
Also, now when I try and run World of Warcraft it says:
This application has encountered a critical error:

Download video drivers here http://www.sis.com/support/
But onboard video, especially SIS, is useless when it comes to playing games that have come out in the past few years. You need to get a video card. Hopefully your motherboard has an AGP slot. You can get a decent card for about $60.
After 1 year Crysis,Far cry 2,etc.have been slow and choppy.had no trouble at first.
Sometimes older drivers work better go finger. Also try like Auslogics Disk Defrag or IoBits Defrag. They are free and work a lot better than the Vista 1 which is actually just the XP one.GG Microsoft1 more replies
Hi I just re connected my computer and I have re-installed and tried to play alot of my old games. Unfrotunately 95% don't work unless I disable the sound card. This leads me to believe that my sound card is having issues with these games. The games I have tried are: Black & White, Max Payne, Operation Flashpoint, Jedi Knigt II: Outcast, Medal of Honor: Allied Assault, Return to Castle Wolfenstein and... thats it. Anyway the only game that works is RTCW, other than that I either get an error message that says something along the lines of : "GAMENAME HAS CAUSED A PAGEFAULT IN GAMENAME.EXE" or I get a frozen grey screen (this happens in MOHAA) In the game that does work, RTCW, the sound lags i.e. when I fire a burst from a submachine gun, I don't actually hear it for a bout a second.
I have a:
VIA Motherboard (not sure which model exactly)
AMD Thunderbird 1.2 GHZ processor
128MB of RAM
GeForce 2 MMX
The strange thing is that I have played all of these games before on this same computer and they worked fine. Another downside to my predicament is that my gaming computer is not hooked up to the internet therefore I cannot download any updates or patches. Any help for my problem will be greatly, greatly appreciated. I have been trying to fix this problem on my own for about a week now and I am getting pretty frustrated and discouraged, I am about to pull an "Office Space" on my computer and just get a PS2.
Oh sorry I forgot to mention that my computer was originally a Gateway but I have overhauled it and even though I was able to play alot of these games after the overhaul that seems to be about the time that I started having sound probs.
I replaced my old socket A motherboard and got a pentium D and some ddr2. I'm using the same ati radeon 9600xt and the same hard drive and everything works fine until I try loading up a game. I tryed reinstalling the drivers and reinstalling the games and the same thing happens. I open up warcraft III and the opening video plays through then the menu screen never comes up. Help please I don't know what to do. Also my power supply is only 280watts. Could that have anything to do with the problem?
firstly, have you got ridden of all the old motherboard drivers for your socket A and installed the latest/stable drivers for your current one?
If yes, then continue reading this:

I know this might be a stupid question, but do old XBox games work with the 360? And what are some games you would recommend for the 360.
The 360 has some backwards capability. I think if you check MS' website, you can find a list.
i purchased starcraft 2 and play team fortress along with a few others a while ago that still work to this day. however yesterday i purchased crysis 2 in a shop along with counterstrike 2 and half life 2 through steam and all fail to work. the steam games fails to show any servers and my crysis 2 wont launch after the redeem code gets verified. all my other games i purchased before yesterday all work still.. im so confused and dont know what to do!!
Contact steam support.
I have a standalone mic that plugs into the pink mic jack and a set of headphones. The mic works fine in other games and in Ventrilo. The problem is, every time I join a server in a Steam game, my mic stops working in vent and in game. To clarify, I can talk while the game is open, I can talk while new stuff is downloading, but as soon as I get into the server, nothing. I can go to control panel > sound speech and audio and press test voice, this makes my mic work for a while, but as soon as the map changes and finishes downloading, it stops working again.
Btw I know its a text wall, if you don't understand something, please ask for clarification.
Hi. My xp laptop wont let me play my games. I download them and every thing is just fine until i try to play them. I click the icon and then it goes to the taskbar and i have to click on it until i get 2 error msg's reading: DX7_setdisplay - error

And then this one pops up: PORSCHE.ICD has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
Can sombody please help and fast.

Ok, I think I just succesfully removed a very notorious virus, W32/Pate.B. Now, whenever I start all of my games, and choose a server, or load a singleplayer game, etc., as soon as it's done loading the map, it will give me the standard Windows error message, (to send an Error Report, which they obviously don't look at).
The only exception to this is WoW, which runs perfectly (when it didn't before), which gives me the assumption that the virus is gone. How should I go about fixing this? I also heard that this virus adds some data to the end of each .exe file, which is what I think the problem is here. Is there a program out there that fixes this? I don't feel like reinstalling 50+ games.
My friend has this really high profile computer, I'm talking 3.2 ghz, 1 gigabyte ram, nvidia geforce fx 5950 256 mb video card, sound blast audigy 2, 160 gig harddrive. What else can he ask for?
And recently he bought Far Cry, tried the new tomb raider game, and even tried another 3-d game called painkillers. All three of them run slower than usual on his superman computer. There has to be something wrong, but we have no idea what is wrong.
He tried that tomb raider game before a while back and it worked fine. But just recently it's been slow. I tried removing spyware but still no use.
Does anybody have any idea on what the cause of this slowdown is on this high end pc?

I have a HP Wireless Comfort Keyboard & Mouse.. Whenever I play games, the left shift key doesn't work if I hold it.
For example, if I hold the shift key, it acts as if I hit the key once and stop.
In any Need for Speed game, if I use the shift key for my Nitrous, it will do the Nitrous for like a split second and then the car will stop moving (even if I am holding the Up arrow key). I will start moving again when I let go of the Shift key.
In any Call of Duty game, if I use the shift key to sprint, it will start to sprint (I will lower my gun to start the sprint animation) but I will never end up going anywhere; I just stop moving. I start moving again once I let go of the Shift Key.
This is getting pretty annoying, since most games use the left Shift key for something like sprint; I keep having to change my settings (if I can) to something else..
I've already reinstalled the drivers, but it still won't work...

these games HAVE worked before i formatted my computer, i haven't taken ANYTHING out of the computer.

This problem just started today. The games explorer will not start a new game; it will only try to start saved games (even when there are no saved games). I checked all of the settings and could find nothing that should cause this behavior. The only way I can start a new game is to go the the exe file and start from there. I suppose I could start a saved game, if any, and then go to the menu and start a new game from there. However, I would like to fix this problem. I have a Dell furnished CD for Windows Vista, but I don't know if one can reinstall only the games. I surely do not want to reinstall the OS.
I just discovered I have the exact same problem. I have Vista Ultimate (x64). Played Spider Solitaire last night, now it is gone.
Gee, could have something to do with the 17 MS updates that were installed last night?

I was wondering if anyone would be able to help me with a small Internet problem that I have.
I am trying to play games on Yahoo! Games but can not do so because nothing loads. All I get is a blank screen with a tiny box in the top left corner with a red circle, green triangle and blue square inside.
I know it is something to do with Java, but have tried all sorts of solutions to no avail. I have Windows 98 running and I am using Internet Explorer 6 with the latest service pack installed. I have also checked that Microsoft Java Virtual Machine is installed and have ticked the corresponding boxes in the "Internet Options" dialogue box. I have also tried installing the latest JVM from the Sun site.
Anyone have any ideas?

Hi people, A couple of days ago i installed a Geforce4 MX 420 4X Video Card in my 2X AGP Socket. Everything works well apart from most of my games. For some reason only OpenGL based games work and any other game is basicly one big glitch. Motocross Madness (1998) is unplayable because as soon as the game starts im in a glitch. Is their anyway of fixing this problem?
Here are my system specs:
533MHZ Intel Celeron Processor
64MB Nvidia Geforce4 MX 420 AGP 4X
Windows 98 Second Edition
10GB Hard Drive
By the way the video drivers are the latest for windows 98. 12/10/2005.
Upgrade the motherboard. That's about it. But if you do that, might as well upgrade the other components. It's all dependent upon how much money you can afford.
Well, yeah, I like to know how Dolby Digital in games works. What does it mean?
I know how EAX works- it simply creates different sound effects according to the surrounding.
Okay. But what does Dolby Digital do?
I thought Dolby Digital in games is somewhat impossible, because unlike EAX, it can't be
created dynamically, but must be readily mixed. However, in games where situations are never
the same, you can't mix the sound in advance, it must be created dynamically, according to the
situation and environment. But according to Dolby, they seem to have developed a new
technique to make Dolby Digital possible in games.
Well, what's the story now with Dolby Digital in (newer) games, like Prince of Persia or Army
Ops, what are the advantages?
When I changed my SB Live! 5.1 Platinum against my new nForce 2 onboard sound, I could
only hear that the sound in, for example, Army Ops sounds a bit "smoother" than before. But I
had 5.1 sound with my Live! before as well. And of course the whole sound sounds a lot better
then before (with my Live!), so I can't really tell what's the difference now.
And maybe the answer to my DD question will already answer the following question: when playing games in Dolby Digital (PoP, Army Ops), does it make sense to deactivate EAX?
Dolby Digital "in" games is just a marketing ploy. Absolutely no games feature any audio encoded in that format.
If you want Dolby Digital encoded content in games then you need to be using a nForce/nForce 2 motherboard which supports that feature - that can then encode audio into that format in real-time - which basically means that instead of needing to use 3 (analog) line-outs you can instead use 1 S/PDIF cable to connect to a Dolby Digital decoder instead.
The nForce motherboards that include this feature can do this with all audio (though obviously it's not needed if you're playing something thats encoded in that format, i.e. most DVDs).
EAX has nothing to do with this at all & if you want environmental effects in your games then you'll want to enable it (Some games tie 3D audio to this as well, so if you want that as well then be sure its on).
The "advantages" to this encoding are that you'll only need to use 1 cable instead of 3 & your receiver may well feature better DACs than the nForce (likely). On the downside dolby digital is a lossy audio format.
Hi all. Ok so I am a video game geek and I love to play games. So then my keyboard and Joysticks worked and everything until yesterday. I use ePSXe Playstation emulator to play games from PS1 and stuff. So yesterday I opened it and I went to Controll Configuration to configure my controlls. It gives me and Error: Error Initializing DirectInput. So then my emulator shuts down. Even when I run my ISO Playstation games it gives me that error and the game starts but my controlls don't work. So then I thaught to play my PC Games. So Boot one up and the black screen opens than the screen turns of and goes back to the desktop. Then I tried another game the same thing happened. I tried all my games and that's what happens. So then I put my Donald Duck's Goi'n [email protected]! Game and it boots up then it goes to the place where I have to choose the language but my keyboard doesn't work! I pressed anything but it doesn't work. Not even the ALT+ F4 or Control + ALT+ DELETE. Nothing. So I just turn my computer of via the button on the CPU. So my keyboard doesn't work with any games. I have played all those games but now they stopped working. So I went to Controll Panel to check on the Game Controllers but it doesn't open. I keeped on opening it but doesn't open. When I double click it the mouse shows te busy sign for 1 or 2 secs and nothing happens! So now I am really worried. I NEED HELP! I am so frustrated with this problem! HELP!

Forum rules do not allow any q's on Emus, as they are generally a pirate device (see forum rules). It sounds like this has made a mess of settings, but as we cant discuss emus, cant help with the prob, sorry.
I dont know if anyone can help cause I've looked everywhere online.
For all the more graphically intense games eg: Age of Mythology (offline) , Ijji games, Combat Arms, Maple Story, etc. I've been having some really weird lag spikes that never happened before.
So the game starts off excellent, no lag whatsoever then 5, 10 minutes into the game huge lag spike.
For the fps games the frame isnt frozen just the other people. While my character moves around, a few seconds later people are 20 feet to the left.
Other games (Age of Mythology, Maplestory) is the same except it never really freezes but jumps and its really slow, even though it worked fine for the first few minutes.
I don't know if its my computer or the game. Can someone help?
My Computer Specs are:
HP Pavilion Desktop PC
Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit
699 GB Hard Drive space
7 GB Ram
NVIDIA GeForce 9100 Integrated Graphics

I got a ATI Radeon HD2400 Pro, while previously I had a Nvida onboard graphics chip. I installed the card and installed the newest catalyst drivers, but when I try to play a Game it freezes and it crashes or the VPU Recovery Message appears. I tried the Omega drivers and older drivers too, they didn't help. I checked the temperature with Riva Tuner and it shows around 50 C°, so heat cant be the problem. Dxdiag says no problems found.
The slot is a PCI Express x16.
I have a 400 watt power supply while the cards box says 300 or better.
I have a Nvidia chipset, and the newest drivers I could find for them
I have XP, 1GB RAM and an AMD 3000+
And I got the card from a friend, so I dont think its broken.
I hope someone can help me with this.
What brand and model is your "400W power supply"? How old is it? Did you uninstall the nVidia graphics drivers and clean up with driver remover-type of utility before inserting the Radeon and installing its drivers?
I've already asked this on two other forums, no one can give me a straight answer...here goes:
Whenever I play a game for more than 10 minutes, it locks up and I have to reboot my PC. Even after I reboot, it still occurs every single time. Also, if I want my games to run smooth, I have to run them as soon as I boot up the PC or else the frame rate goes to hell. I have all the latest drivers for my vid/sound card and XP. Defragged around 2 days ago.
The 2nd problem happened long before the first but I didn't think much of it...
I really have no clue what's wrong. Any ideas?

Please note the Windows 95 or above part, I think that you should be alright
Has anyone ever heard of buying a refurbished PC from an Authorized Microsoft Refurbisher where out of the gate the Windows feature of Games doesn't work. After contacting the Refurbisher was told that refurb OS at 64 bit does not contain Games and that they would send a 32 bit disc for me to do the install of the OS all over again?
I find this unbelievable. The refurb license for software shouldn't be less of an OS than OEM or retail, should it???
Learn to believe. Old Windows OS games are 32 bit..9 more replies
a couple of days ago i could get into the games and now when i try to get on a game it won't load up can you help me?
Try to be a little more specific...are you getting an error message? Is this within Internet Explorer? What exactly happens when you try to load?
Is there a web site where you can see if your computer meets the system requirement for a pc game of your chooseing? Like for example with the pc gamer cds/dvds you can see if the demo will run on your machine becuase they've made a graph that shows what meets (and doesn't meet) the minuim requirements for that particular demo.
