The hardware has changed significantly, you must reactivate Windows XP. I've getting this message since I upgraded my motherboard, cpu, and ram. Also the message say's I must do it within three days, so does that mean I can't have windows after 3 days? I've used that copy of winodows for 5+ years, and never gotten that message. Also for some reason my mouse is not being recognized by computer. Help needed. Thank you

A:The hardware has changed significantly, you must reactivate Windows XP

Did it activate over the internet? It is a quick nd easy call to activate . . no reason not ot do it. . . and yes . .if you do not, Windows will quit working

You will need to load the motherboard specific drivers

Starting today, seemingly out of nowhere, my custom Windows 7 desktop PC started giving me a message along the lines of "you may be a victim of software counterfeiting," asking me to validate windows, then asking me to reinstall windows. I got this PC less than 1 year ago with a brand new Windows 7 key. Up until this time, I haven't had many major issues crop up, but some minor things have had me suspicious, and even more so now.

I ran Microsoft Security Essentials (detected/removed nothing) and Malwarebytes (removed/detected some PUPs but no frank malware). I attempted to backup my computer today using Windows backup, but it was unable to complete fully due to some corruption (I believe is what it said) in the C drive.

Since this PC is less than one year old, I am hoping it's not hardware failure. If there's anything that could be done before I have to throw in the towel and get a new hard drive, then I need some help!

Whatever logs and specs you need, please guide me and I'll be happy to provide.
Thanks.

Tuesday 1-September (hello Football Season)
--------------------------------------------------------------------

My Safely Remove Hardware Icon (in System Tray - Notification Area of Taskbar) has changed the way it was working.

For 5 years, when I clicked on the Safety Remove Hardware (SRH) Icon, I got a small skinny pop-up window immediately over the icon listing my USB devices by Drive Letter. I would click which device/drive letter I wanted to remove and it would unmount ! Simple & Quick (no Fuss - No Muss). See #1 jpeg.

Recently, clicking the Safely Remove Hardware icon has not produced the normal function shown in jpeg #1. Instead - the larger Safely Remove Hardware Dialog Box opens up - requiring a series of mouse clicks to select and unmount the USB device I want stopped. See jpeg(s) 2 & 3

How do I regain the way the Safely Remove Hardware icon worked as shown in jpeg #1 ?

Thanks for any help !

I Purchased Win 7 Ultimate some months ago as a download. It activated properly, and has been very stable. I replaced my processor three days ago without incident - no messages about activation. Now I am getting the black screen and "Windows is not genuine" message. I tried entering the product code - no joy. So I called the number and tried phone activation - three times - at the end, it said "you cannot activate Windows today". There used to be a number to call to explain about hardware updates - but I cannot find it anywhere on their site. I tried system restore, and it didn't complete.

Any help anyone could provied would be greatly appreciated. I am not interested in paying for my copy of Windows again.

Hi,
I recently changed out my motherboard from a board that supported only a Socket 478 1.7 GHz and USB 1.1 for one that supported a Socket 478 2.6 GHz processor and USB 2.0. The system is running XP Home.

Well after this change I booted my system the first time it would go to the splash screen and then reboot. This was followed by it going to the screen showing the option to boot in Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Networking, Last Good Configuration or Normally. I tried all the options and was sent back to previously described screen every time.

My only option was to put my XP Setup disk in and do a repair to XP. This worked but my problem is that I had Office and Frontpage installed on my computer. Now when I try and access them I get the following screen: see attachment.

Is there a way to get my Office and Frontpage programs to work short of digging out the original install disks and reinstalling them again.

Thank you in advance.

There was a 5 page thread on trying to downgrade from Ultimate to Win 7 Pro but I thought I should start a new thread. I have a thead on a different forum but was hoping someone here might know the answer.

Users computer says Windows is not genuine, was 7 pro, in Sept 2013 we upgraded to Ultimate to use Bitlocker. System bought from Dell, used Anytime Upgrade to Ultimate. I spent ages on phone with Microsoft today, they have completely agreed both copies are valid, and the computer is saying they're not, in error, they will not admit that it's a Windows Update that caused it likely.

They took over remotely, and 30 minutes later gave up, none of the methods worked. She then advised me to BUY a copy of 8.1 and do a clean install. I don't want 8.1, if we have to reinstall I'd rather do Win 7 Pro again(same valid code) and then up to Ultimate again(same valid code), or go to Win 10 when it comes out. Of course you can't upgrade a "non genuine" copy of Windows 7 to win 10, even if it is in fact genuine.

We don't want to have to reinstall. MS also told me I need to downgrade to Win 7 Pro, put in the code, then upgrade to Ultimate. To do that they said I have to do a clean install. I've seen all the links to Windows Downgrader but we aren't exactly thrilled to be advised to use a 3rd party app. I have not tried the registry suggestions yet, I'm not particularly comfortable dealing with the registry. Two questions.

If MS had been willing to just give me a new U... Read more

Hi

I have an ASUS notebook (U31F i5 with 4 GB mem) which until recently I used only occasionally. It has Legit Office 2010, but no CD/DVD drive. My desktop hard disk crashed in a big way so I am using the notebook as my main computer.

It has just recently started throwing up messages that my Windows Homw Premium (x64) is not genuine. It is gebuine OEM and activated (back when I got the notebook), and I have not tampered in any way.

I have had a look at some other threads on this forum on this issue, and so have dowloaded and run MGAdiag.exe, but to my inexpert eye, it appears to report everything OK.

I have pasted text in below, and would welcome more expert advice as to whther I have missed something, and if not, what should I do next?

I recentlly had a problem with my PC where when i turned it on the HDD light would just stay on and nothing would start or come up on screen (no beeps but all fans started). I purchased a new CPU (same model and speeds) to see if that was the problem and it still did it so i got a new motherboard (same model) and again still nothing. I changed the power supply with another i have on a PC i KNOW works and its STILL the same. I even used the power switch out of the other PC as well as trying with no ram and different ram but STILL the same problem. I dont understand how that can be possible when EVER part is different from that of what is in the computer. No HDD or sata or IDE drives were connected, no cards or anything but still the thing wont start.

New/different motherboard
New/different CPU
Different Ram
Different case & power switch
NO other cards or devices

So WHY is there STILL the same problem ????????

The stats of the PC are as follows

AMD Sempron 3000+
Asus K8V-VM Motherboard
1GB DDR400 Ram

Any help would be VERY much appreciated because i am COMPLETELY stumped on what the problem is when ALL the parts are different and i cant afford to be spending any more money on the system.

Thank You

I had a stock system from Dell (an inspiron 530)

[Windows Vista]
Intel E4400
Foxconn G33M02 (OEM motherboard)
2GB DDR2 RAM (upgraded to 4GB)
160GB Seagate HDD for OS
640GB WD HDD (additional) for Storage
NVidia 8600GT

Today I recieved my new Asus P5N-D [NVidia 750i chipset, second hand came with no driver CD =S ] and installed it. It booted up and then came to an error saying that a vital system driver was corrupted (acpi.sys)
I tried many things, like repairing with CD, booting into safe mode etc. but nothing worked (I was unable to enter safemode due to more system files being damaged/corrupt)

I decided to disconnect the WD HDD and wipe the other hard drive using active@ killdisk.
Killdisk ran and deleted the existing Windows partition so I could install a fresh copy of Vista.
When installing Vista from the CD a status bar appears with "Windows is loading files..."
When it reaches the end it reboots into an cycle that leads nowhere.

My guess would be that it is hardware or driver related and that I may have to change some BIOS settings, but I have no idea what is wrong or how to fix it.

Thanks in advance,

Harry

I just installed a new motherboard, CPU, memory, and video card into my computer. I'm not looking to salvage my old OS install, and have all important data backed up, so I planned to just put the hardware in and boot off my windows disk to do a format and reload. However no matter what I do I can't get windows setup or an OS to load. When loading the installer it locks up at the windows splash screen. I've tried booting off the hdd and it does the same thing. I tried it in safe mode and it locks up before it finished loading all the files. I also tried booting mini XP off my Hirens 15 disk and that locks up at the splash screen too.

So at this point I ran memtest to see if it was my ram causing problems but it all tested ok. So anyone got any idea on how to boot off my disk so I can format and reload?

A:Changed hardware, now won't boot off hdd or disk.

What windows installation disk do you have - is it a retail disk or a disk burnt from your previous recovery partition.

Also, for a test try to install a Linux distro - maybe Ubuntu and see what happens. Even a live CD may give you some insight.

Provided your hardware funtions properly, I suspect there is a driver problem. But that is not certain at this level of info.

Ugh this is more annoying than a real problem. I was running vista on a 512 meg ram machine that was locking up. I took out the HDD and placed it in a 1.5ghz ram machine. Of course different hardware yadda yadda yadda. The funny thing is it installed like a dream which I was not expecting. The ONLY driver it did not find on its own was a the video card and I made that change manually. Of course after all this on the next reboot it says multiple components were changed this requires reactivation. I tried to reactivate it and it failed. Sure enough each reboot it says reactivate but it never does but I am able to continue using it.
I know a rebuild will clean it all up but is there any way around this reactivation loop I seem to be in?

Hello and thanks in advance to whoever can help me.

A couple of days ago I was downloading some video files and since I wasn't paying attention I clicked an .exe instead of a video file. I know this makes me the idiot, but I have beaten myself up over it for a while and cannot fix this myself so I am now humbly coming forward with my idiocy to get my Toshiba Qosmio back up and health. So here's the deal:

I got the popup that I wasn't running a genuine copy of Windows 7 64 bit Pro (which I am...came from the factory). Tried to resolve it online and the only answer I got was to buy another copy of Windows, which I don't really want to do. Then I tried to run Windows Update and I get random error codes as to why I can't. I tried a system restore and got a message that there is an error on my hard drive, to run chkdsk. Tried that, nothing. Even when Windows rebooted it wouldn't let me. So then I boot towards the safe mode menu and see an option for Windows Repair, choose that and click on system restore. I pick a restore point a week or so ago and try to restore. Negative. Got a message that not only could it not restore but now that restore point was damaged (hooray). Tried rebooting to that screen and all I get is black: pointer works with touch pad but not mouse. Tried booting into safe mode and I couldn't get explorer.exe to run and had no icons. Then rebooted to Last Known Good Configuration which is where I am now.

Hi,

OS: Windows 7 Professional 64bit. Used since Win7 came out with no genuinity issues until now.

A short while after the SP1 update I started getting popups claiming my Windows is not genuine. I know for a fact that my Windows is genuine.

Properties show my Windows is activated. I have activated both online and by phone yet the popup still keeps appearing. The MGA diagnostics show that there is a tampered file and apparently it is causing the validation to flag my system as not genuine:

I have tried to fix this for a while now. The file seems to be associated with MUI packages and Something called Vistalizator.

I have checked the registry and there are no MUI's. US-EN only. I do not have anything called Vistalizator.

I am rather frustrated with googling in microsoft pages as they all lead to the Vistalizator and MUI packs but I don't have them so the fix does not apply.

Hello, I am using an Acer Aspire 5738G, which originally came with Windows Vista Home Premium. Later I got the free Windows 7 Home Premium update disc and never encountered any problem.

But since the last 1 month or so, I've been getting this 'Windows not genuine' message on a random basis. Microsoft Security Essentials says that it will disable itself within 30 days if the issue is not resolved. When I click on 'Resolve issue', an IE window is opened and takes me to Microsoft's website. When I do all the steps explained, everything goes back to normal and my Windows is again considered as genuine.

I am a bit worried, although I can always solve the problem, it still irritates me when I see the 'Windows not genuine' message. What could be the cause of the problem and what is the solution?

Anyway this machine runs Norton Internet Security Center which was up to date as of a few weeks ago, but because of her problem it no longer seems able to complete its update process although she has 322 days left of her subscription. I tried several times but each time the update process terminated after doing some of the downloads. The problem she has is that on boot up she gets a message saying that her version of Windows is not genuine (it is since it was supplied with the machine 4 years ago) and what is more it talks about Windows XP Professional whereas she has Windows XP Home. In addition to these messages which give her the option to resolve the problem now or later, she gets pop-ups at various times saying that her copy of Windows is not genuine, maybe counterfeit etc.

In addition when these problems started to occur she says she was no longer able to connect to the internet (she has a router and broadband) - I noticed that her connection was disabled so I re-enabled this and we can now connect to the Internet.

I do Slui 3 and fix it, because if I try to go online to do this it won't finish it up, it just sits there loading. I haven't had issues with this laptop at all otherwise. Been using it for years. I re-installed Windows 7 home premium on my refurbished optiplex 745.
Whenever I entered my product key it froze, knowing i could enter it later, i skipped that step, hear are a few snapshots of the problem:

So, if the product code on the sticker on my computer doesn't work, am i screwed into buying a new one?

A:Genuine Problems--Windows is not genuine.

Check the code with the online ID checker, make sure you are reading it correctly, there should be no reason it doesn`t work.

Hello all, and thank you for the oppurtunity to post.
I got a Pop-up, titled Microsoft Security Essential, which states I am infected by a Trojan. At the same time I was surprised to see a Windows Genuine notification , which stated that because I have made major changes since I first loaded Windows XP Pro, I now have to reactivate windows. Is this for real? The Microsoft notice will not go away no matter what I do, it sits in the middle of the screen and resists all efforts to close. If this is a Virus I am sure I will need Help in removing. Thanking you in advance,

I have a MSDNAA account where I downloaded my copy of Windows 7 Pro, so its genuine, but when my computer is idle for sometime, in the lower right corner of the screen, sometimes appears the "not genuine" text with "evaluation copy etc etc". I go to Control Panel - System, then windows activates itself again, turning genuine again. This happened two times, yesterday and today. Is this a bug or what?

A:Windows 7 pro activation - genuine / not genuine

Hello,
Im in a trouble, so im hoping that you will help me.
I had a genuine windows 7 for a laptop a while ago, then i sent the laptop to my parents in a different country.
So i bought a new pc, without a operating system, driven by a lack of money i downloaded the old not genuine xp. Along came problems, unknown errors, bugs, etc.
Like for example, now i cannot start safe mode, i cannot make a new partition thru cmd or partition magic cause of somekind of file xmnt.exe is missing.
Sadly, i want to keep my bought games and programs, 'cause my internet is pretty slow, so it will take for ages to redownload/reinstall everything.

The question is: Can i upgrade my not genuine windows xp to windows 7 by buying it and installing like it's a common program keeping all of the programs/games/etc.?

Thank you in advance.

A:Upgrade not genuine windows xp to genuine windows 7.

Sadly if you are looking to regain stability your best bet would be a fresh install of windows 7
Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version

as outlined there you can do a fresh install with the upgrade disc, this would result in the loss of your games and programs, though do a straight upgrade from xp to win 7 without cleaning out the garbage is just going to make win 7 run horribly too.

My computer (from lenovo) came with windows 7 (home). Because I run a domain within my lan, I purchased and downloaded windows 7 64 bit professional. Today I downloaded and ran System Mechanic pro (trial version) from Iola site. After running it and rebooting, my system shows that the system is not activated (windows is not genuine is show on desktop). After I ran MGADialog the log files show Genuine state set to non-genuine (0x00000000) for application Id 55c92. Also MGADialog showed :

I had a non-genuine copy of Ms Office installed on my computer, and have now purchased a genuine copy. Uninstalling the old (non-genuine) copy is impossible because it doesn't have an uninstaller, and it doesn't even show in Control Panel's Add/Remove Programs. So I just installed my genuine copy in a different folder in Program Files, so that the non-genuine copy wouldn't interfere with the newly installed genuine copy.

The problem is that even though I tried opening Ms Word or Excel directly from the newly installed folder and not from the old link to the old version, it still gives me a message (like before) that says "Get Genuine Office - This copy of Office is not genuine".

How do I get rid of the old (non-genuine) Ms Office if I am unable to uninstall it? Please don't tell me to work on the registry - I don't want to touch the registry because I'm not a computer pro, and I won't know what I'm doing. I just want to get rid of the message that says get genuine Office.

I am using Windows XP Home.

Thank you

Interesting.
The error message
Notification Reason: 0xC004F063.
...is a pretty specific one, and almost always means that the machine has been reinstalled using media other than the manufacturer's Recovery media, while still using the manufacturer's OEM_SLP Key instead of the COA Key.

For what version and edition of Windows is the machine licensed - according to the COA sticker on the case (or inside the battery compartment)

I recently downloaded SP1 to my Windows 7 machine and shortly thereafter a message appeared on the lower right hand corner indicating that "Windows 7 Build 7601 This copy of windows is not genuine". I bought this machine used and so I verified the key with Microsoft and it is a genuine OEM key but try as I may there is nowhere to enter a product key. I go to start-computer-right click- and at the bottom under Windows Activation it states Status: Not Available - Product ID: Not Available and NO place to enter a product key. Also all of the DOS commands that I can find on the Net do not seem to work either. When I contact Microsoft support they are no help at all and tell me I need to do a CLEAN install with the disk that came with my machine. The only problem is that no disk came with this machine. I have also been told by "Tech support" since I have an OEM key I just cannot use ANY install win 7 disk. I have a TON of Apps. loaded on this machine and it TICKS me off that I have a VALID OEM key and seemingly no way to enter or fix which I suspect is a Microsoft bug to begin with as they have overshot to prevent piracy. Someone Please help!

A:Win 7 Prof not genuine and cannot enter genuine OEM product key

To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool (download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.
- **in your own thread**, please
Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine, but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!

I have a laptop with Windows 7 Home Basic OEM pre-installed, it was genuine and had COA on the bottom of laptop.
Accidentally, at that time I was 12 years old, so I don't know about 'crack', 'hack', software counterfeit, etc. . Thus, I thought my Windows was 'low', I want to upgraded it to Windows 7 Ultimate version with Windows Anytime Upgrade.

I searched key generator (keygen) on internet, I found it and generated the code (for Windows 7 Ultimate). Then, I pasted the serial number (product key) to Windows Anytime Upgrade. First, it was failed. So I cancelled the upgrade. But, when the laptop's shutdown and I turn it on again, it was upgrading to the Windows 7 Ultimate. How weird!

Now, I know the pirated / not genuine Windows is not safe, against the law, etc.

My question, is, I restored it to the genuine version of my Windows (7 Home Basic OEM) using my product key.
But I downloaded the setup using the Windows 7 Ultimate pirated (using keygen) that I told you...
Is my Windows become 'not genuine'?
After I restored it, It is very good, clean, doesn't contain virus or error, works perfectly. Then I upgraded it to Windows 10 Home.
Is it okay? Or I should buy the DVD to perform clean install so it is 100% clean?

Need your opinion, please...
Thanks

Ok Microsoft you win, I bought a legit new two DVD 32 and 64 bit Win 7. Since the machine came with the Ultimate version I bought the ultimate version.

Here is what I want to know. How do I substitute this genuine version for my bad version without losing my other programs? I don't want to start all over as I have a whole lot of programs that I want to keep as is. Can I do that?

If everythig is working OK on your computer it should be just a simple matter of changing the invalid Product Key with the PK from your newly purchased disk.

Hi guys, so I have a little problem, I've downloaded FileTypesMan because I wanted to change the .exe files appearance on my computer.

I did this using this program - all .exe file icons changed, however, with them changed ALL the shortcuts to all the programs that I have on my laptop - now they all look the same.

I can't figure out how to change it all back.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
THanks

If you like, you might see if downloading and merging the .reg file for the listed exe item in the tutorial below may be able to help. It'll restore the default association and registry entries for exe files.

Hi all-
Apologies in advance as I am not exactly technologically sound.
I tried plugging in my digital camera today, and though it did not come up, I hunted down the Removable Disk (E) drive, which I figured would open it. It told me that I had to choose a program to open it with, so I chose some kind of picture viewer. Then all the icons on my desktop turned into said picture viewer, and I cannot open anything but that program from the desktop. Also, when I go into Programs and try to open them, they don't work there either. Help!
I am using Windows 7. I have tried System Restore but it told me that it could not complete it and gave me some kind of error message with 0x80070005. It recommended that I turn off my protection or whatever to complete it, but I have Norton 360 and no idea how to turn it off!
Any help is greatly appreciated- we just bought this computer in November and now my husband is ticked off!

A:Solved: accidentally changed removable disk, now changed every program?

Welcome Tuckersmom !
When I connect my camera to either of our computers, the camera itself indicates on the viewer how to handle the pictures....
To replace the icons on the desk top, right click any empty place and select refresh, I think this should restore them for you.
My daughter uses Norton 360 and we have found that it disables the system restore. She does regular backups with Norton 360. If you have done that, you should be able to restore from one of those backups.
GOOD LUCK
Let us know how it goes.

Turned on my comupter this morning and got the following errors: I have not opened the computer tower, I have not added or removed any drives:

Flopply Disk 40 missing

Then restarted system and got this message:
"cpu has been changed or CPU Ratio change failed"

Hit F1 to continue or DEL go to into setup

I have gone to CMOS set up and used f7 to optimize and hit f10 to save
come back with the third error.

this computer has always done a memory test when it starts up 99% of the time I let it run, total startup time if I do, 10minutes, if I skip memory test still 10 minutes.

Now slower than ever trying to start up

I have read your various threads and none I found discuss these errors just suddenly apprearing. This computer was a built from scratch by an IT friend of mine who has moved away I have all the documentation that came with it.

I have tried system restore back one week did not work, I was following ASK tech page guide and downloaded REGSERVO program came back with 6800 errors and wanted 39.00, well as you know the economy is in the tank and I do not have the extra money, but i do have the extra time if someone could walk me through what to do.

I use Norton utilities and clean the drive/registries/and explorer weekly.
Please send any advise possible
Thank you
NascarLady

A:sudden error message CPU has been changed or CPU Ratio changed failed

REGSERVO is a Rogue program that tells you, you have problems and "we will fix them for you for $39.00!" "But. Wait! for an extra amount for shipping and handling we will really screw your Windows installation up!"

Of course they make you wait until they find the registry errors to tell you that you have to pay $39.00. I just did a google search on REGSERVO and the only ones that give RegServo good reviews are, and hear is the drum roll, Regservo itself. Stay away from any of these programs that say they will fix your registry then want money to fix the problems they found.

Also there is no need to run any registry cleaner. More often than not it will not help your problem or speed up your computer, and can indeed break your registry to the extent of having to reinstall windows.

If this is the system in yur Computer specs, have you been having any problems with needing to adjust the date and time lately?

this is very confusing to me ive never seen it so i found a way back onto the internet by using a shortcut i had.

not even sure how to start this. i dont know exactly what i did but everything was changed. i was going to try to watch a movie thats on my laptop, it said 'avi' and when i clicked on it nothing happened. i dragged it into itunes to see if it would play there, nope. i right-clicked it, picked 'open with' VLC, still nothing. right clicked it again and chose windows media center, nothing happened. i tried transfering the folder with the option available in media center, still didnt play.

when i closed media center i saw all my desktop stuff was changed to open with media center, i knew immediatly i screwed up pretty bad somewhere. i right clicked internet explorer and changed it to open with internet explorer, it then changed everything to open with internet explorer. when i clicked on internet explorer it didnt open, but it did open the download bar as if i downloaded it. it says "Internet Explorer.Ink" or .lnk. when i click open, the window comes up but closes right away.

can someone help me by telling me how to get everything back to normal?

A:[SOLVED] changed one thing to open with a different application and it changed everyt

It sounds like what you've done is associate a .lnk file (shortcut type) with an application and now all shortcuts will run with that application. The avi file you were referring too may be just that as well: a shortcut.

This has also been known to be caused by a malware infection, in which case if you suspect it, you'll have to report it to our security team in the appropriate Virus/Trojan/Spyware Help subforum.

This may help with the situation.

Hello, I'm working on helping my cousin out with his laptop that has Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. He got the laptop from a friend and wanted to do a clean install of Windows so he used my copy of Windows 7. He had the same OS before wiping the hard drive and installing a new copy. It's been fine for about a month after installing it. Now it's saying "Build 7601 This copy of windows is not genuine" on the bottom right corner on the screen with a black background. A:Windows 7 Home Premium Build 7601 This copy of windows is not genuine

He needs to change the Product Key to the one on HIS COA sticker on the machine's case.
The Key currently in use is System Builder one, rather than an OEM_COA one - which means that it's probably yours.

You then need to uninstall and reinstall the WAT update -

Close all open windows.
Open an Elevated Command Prompt window, and type the following command

wusa /uninstall /kb:971033

and hit the Enter key
Accept the warnings/confirmations, and wait for it to complete

copy and paste the output (if any) from the command prompt window to a reply here,
Reboot

reinstall the update from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971033
Reboot

run another MGADiag report, and post it.

A sorry story - I went to download a copy of Opera, and must have gone to a non-genuine site because all of a sudden I got a host of pop-ups, inc one telling me about a wonderful "Optimiser" product. Had a go at cleaning the virus and then performed a windows update that had come along.
Next boot i have lost my user profile..

Long story short, I think I have cleaned the virus, fixed the user profile issue, but now am lost in the non-genuine Windows nightmare. Diagnostic report below.

A:Virus, Windows update, user profile and now Genuine Windows problem

If it gives you a access denied message while trying to activate windows; you may very well need to change the permissions for your user name in order for you to have access to it as windows 7 has quirks about having access to certain items even if your user name is a administrator. As for the non genuine windows thing; I strongly advise you in the future to never go to a non genuine site for any free browser. Always type the url directly into the address bar of the browser you use as that way you will encounter less issues. To get rid of the non genuine opera copy. I would download and install revo uninstaller from the link below and that should help to get rid of any registry entries in windows as well as the program folder:

http://www.revouninstaller.com/downl...e-portable.php

download, install, and run the uninstaller from the above link then do a google search for opera browser. Thats your best bet at this point.

Hi,
Newbie here. I managed to read a few threads and apply the excellent directions in an attempt to solve the "Windows is not genuine" issue on a Toshiba Satellite C660 laptop computer.

I have successfully used SLMGR to instal the product key which was confirmed by Windows Script Host dialogue box.

I still have the dreaded "Windows ..not genuine" message in the lower right corner of the display.

I have run the Diagnostic tool and pasted the results below. I hope i have complied with posting requirements.
Thanks

You've had a Trusted Store Tamper - often the result of malware (or conflicting AV's)

What Anti-Virus programs have ever been installed?

Please download and install Malwarebytes Anti-malware (free version) from http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/ - UNtick 'Enable free trial of MBAM PRO' at the end of the installation - and update it, then run a full scan in your main account, and Quick scans in any other user accounts.

Delete everything it finds

post back with a new MGADiag report, and we'll see if anything has changed

Hi,

I am a tech idiot and I need help. I appreciate anything anyone can do.

For several months I have been getting messages that our windows may not be genuine. It came installed on our Dell and we bought directly from Dell so I basically ignored it. Recently we got a message that it is not genuine in the bottom right corner of the screen and windows things on the screen started to look clumsy and not run right.

I tried many times to follow the validation processes to fix this but it would never complete. I had my stepson try to fix it and he is a computer pro. He tried remotely and came back saying that the windows version itself was apparently too corrupt and I needed to reinstall it from the original disk - which seems to have got lost in a move. Ugghhh. Oh yeah, several times in my efforts I was told to run chkdsk - did so and it identified different issues, seemed to fix them but made no difference in my ability to fix the validation issue.

So, I bit the bullet and went out to BestBuy and got a Windows 7 Builders Pack. I tried to update windows several times using it - no go. It got to the same point every time and quit. It basically said there was a file that was not correct and install could not be completed. So, I decided to back up and do a full install. Same result. I am at my wit's end. I ran the diagnostic below. Before I try more dramatic moves like hard drive replacement - or new computer, I thought I would give it a last go here.

Any help appreciated.... Read more

A:Windows 7 - Genuine Issues Leading to Unable to Update/Install Windows

So, you`ve reinstalled windows 7, you`ve downloaded the network drivers from dell.com and installed them, and you`ve tried to activate windows with the key on your COA or the key from the system builder pack, and it will not activate ?

And you`re saying you went to BestBuy and they had a Windows 7 builder pack ????????

Amazing How much was that, if you don`t mind me asking ?

If you used that license it should say OEM System Builder, but yours says OEM SLP which means System Locked Pre-Installation. Are you sure you`re trying the right key from BestBuy ?

Hello,
Windows 7 Ultimate Build 7600 This copy of Windows is not genuine

I have a Lenovo desktop that I installed Windows 7 Ultimate on last fall. I obtained my legal copy of Windows 7 from Tiger Direct as a promotion that was giving away copies of Windows 7. I still have the envelope and installation cd, the installation cd looks just like another copy of Windows 7 I got from Microsoft. I have been installing updates since the installation last fall. The message appears in the lower right hand side of my desktop screen.

According to a thread that I read a couple weeks ago, I checked my Updates and found that I have two Windows Updates that do not have Publishers. The updates are kb958488 and update kb 971033.

Any ideas on how I can correct this?
Thanks,
Peter

A:Windows 7 Ultimate Build 7600 This copy of Windows is not genuine

You can call the toll-free number Microsoft provides when activating Windows online fails. You basically talk to a computer for about 4 minutes, but once it's done, your copy of Windows should be re-activated and as such be validated as genuine since you said you got it from Tiger Direct. Hope this helps.

Hi,

I have owned my laptop for 1 and a half years now and all of a sudden I'm getting this error. I brought the laptop in to the shop 2 weeks ago after it started smoking from the power input plug area and it works fine up until today's error.

The scenario was kind of weird. My battery was plugged in and the blue light on the battery was on but my laptop was indicating that it wasn't plugged in. I shut down, and tried the plug again. The battery light lit up on the front of the laptop, so I powered back on. Upon loading up, I get the Windows 7 Build 7601 This copy of Windows is not genuine error. Not sure if these events are related. I updated all my windows updates and restarted. Then I am now getting a prompt for an invalid activation key.

I ran a windows activation validation, and it says "Windows has not yet been activated with a genuine product key. Not to worry, we can help with that"

And then lists a bunch of prices for windows 7...

Laptop:
Asus K53S

I'm not very good with computers. I had a sticker on my laptop that was peeling off so I removed it and apparently my activation key along with it, not realizing I might need it again... I have the box it came in but I don't see an activation key on that.

Help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

A:Windows 7 error: Build 7601, this copy of Windows is not genuine

Oh geez... I called up Asus and the guy informed me that my key was on the back of the laptop. Putting that in fixed my issues, hahaha.

My Dell XPS 8700, I bought from Dell has been a pretty good machine. But then I started seeing the modem failing to initialize. It would do this for so long, I'd have to get up an walk away for awhile. Other times only a system restore would fix it, but even that wasn't guaranteed. I noticed when I gave up and finally just want to reboot that it would hang on "Windows is shutting down," but never would. My last resort then is to do a hard shut down. Only problem then is that it would hang on "Please wait while your computer is updating." Only it would never boot back up. If it leave it like this overnight then sometimes I wake up to the desktop but the modem is still not engaged. The modem is a cable modem and it was JUST changed out to a newer one about three weeks ago. But this intermittent problem has been going on for well over a year. Now the most recent development is that the lower right corner of the desktop says that my Windows is not genuine. The ONLY thing that is not OEM from Dell on this computer is my sound card. I installed a Creative SoundBlaster X-Fi on it the day I got the computer.

I run CCleaner both for windows cache and registry cleaner on average once a week, and it is constantly active. I'm on my computer mostly for college but I also play a lot of games on Pogo. I'm not what you would consider a "gamer" utilizing other online platforms.

I'm running an i7 processor with 8GB ram. My Windows Experience Index rating is... Read more

Hello

So after almost a year with a legit copy from a PC dealer, im now getting this "This computer is not running genuine windows" error pop up a couple times a day.

Im unable to open the validation site in IE even with active script on, and the legitcheck.hta says it's not a valid windows. I have tried the method of cmd.exe with admin rights and it successfully activated the windows product code on my case. Still no change.

slui.exe and slui.exe 4 doesn't open at all for me. Neither does the "Activate Windows" shortcut.

I have multi language installed from dealer if that makes any difference (Norwegian & English)

Im leaning towards it might be either malware or an error with either an AntiVirus or a registry cleaner.

Please help

A:Windows 7 update fails and Windows not genuine message is appearing

That's a new set of errors to me!

Let's start with the basics....

Please run a full CHKDSK and SFC scan....

Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-click on the Command Prompt entry
Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.

At the Command prompt, type

CHKDSK C: /R

and hit the Enter key.
You will be told that the drive is locked,
and the CHKDSK will run at he next boot - hit the Y key, press Enter, and then reboot.

The CHKDSK will take a few hours depending on the size of the drive, so be patient!

After the CHKDSK has run, Windows should boot normally (possibly after a second auto-reboot) -
then run the SFC.

SFC -System File Checker - Instructions
Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-click on the Command Prompt entry
Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.

At the Command prompt, type

SFC /SCANNOW

and hit the Enter key

Wait for the scan to finish - make a note of any error messages - and then reboot.
Copy the CBS.log file created (C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log) to your desktop (you can't manipulate it directly) and then compress the copy and attach it to your reply
Please download and save the CheckSUR tool from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821

A:Windows 7 Build 7601 This Copy of Windows is not genuine appeared?!

The SLIC table appears to have gone missing - possibly because of a BIOS update?
You need to change the Product Key to the one on your COA sticker (probably inside the Battery compartment of your machine), and activate that.

Hello thereI bought a dell laptop from singapore on 22 June 2015 with genuine windows 8.1 preinstalled.now it is giving me a message saying that i have to activate windows and that my windows will expire on 4th november.however when I do so....there is no activation happening automatically. They are asking the key which I dont have it.i contacted singapore office and they asked me to scan using command prompt by giving the command as, sfc/scannowit says there is no violation..but the activation message kept popping up.and now they directed me to Bangladesh dealer as am using the laptop in dhaka.could u please help me......it says my windows will expire on 4th novemberregards

A:How do I activate windows on a Dell laptop which came with pre installed genuine windows 8.

It is possible  you have a pirated copy of Windows. Computers with a factory installed legal copy of Windows do not need to be activated. The activation code for Windows 8 is located in the system BIOS and is read automatically. You can check the code by using one of the utilities that will extract it from the BIOS. If there is a code, contact Microsoft and ask them if the code is valid.

A:Windows 7: Error WINDOWS 7 7601 BUILD NOT GENUINE. No idea how to fix

Hi Muzziful, Welcome to Sevenforums.

from where did you get the Win 7 copy that you are using? If you bought it, seems like the copy that you have is not legit. Normally you can just go to MS site and activate the windows.

Currently getting the error 0xC004F057 - Windows 7 Build 7601 This copy of Windows is not genuine. A couple of months ago I upgraded to a SSD and cloned the previous HDD using Acronis. I didn't have any activation issues at that time, although I can't remember if I did activate (1st time I have done this). I followed this by upgrading to Windows 10. The upgrade worked but the system was slow so I reverted back to Windows 7. Everything was fine until a couple of days ago. I have since tried typing in the product key from the sticker but it says it is not a valid. The other thing I note is that the sticker is saying I have Windows 7 Home Premium, but the report below is saying I have Windows 7 Professional. Appreciate any guidance to fix. Cheers

Sorry about posting my request elsewhere.

Here's my dilemma: I had a desktop system where I virtually replaced all components except my Intel SSD (I only have Win 7 & "programs" installed on this drive). My old OS was Win 7, 32 bit. Since I got a nice 64 bit motherboard/CPU, I purchased Win 7, 64 bit. When I got my new system started, I had all kinds of problems (so many, I can't remember all the details). When I finally got the 64 bit version of Windows 7 to install, it never did ask me to enter the Product Key!?!? It registered/kept the product key from the 32 bit version! After several weeks of trouble-free operation, I now have the "black desktop" with "Windows 7, Build 7601, This copy of Windows is not genuine." Every-time I restart windows, it want me to enter a new product key and "I know" that I'm entering the correct characters.

The following quoted info seemed like a good place to start so I followed this information:

A:Issue: Windows 7, Build 7601, This copy of Windows is not Genuine

You say that you purchased Windows 7 - where from?
The installed License Type is COA_SLP, which is not available to the general public, and can only be sold pre-installed by a major manufacturer. If you did indeed purchase this retail, then it's a counterfeit.

Does the Product Key in the report agree with the one from your purchase?
If not, use the option to change the product Key to the proper one.

Since the end of March a window has popped up saying that windows is not genuine. I have had Windows 7 Home Professional x64 since I bought this computer, so it is genuine. I have run Malwarebytes Super Anti Spyware, and I have AVAST. Windows also will not update no matter what I do. System restores will not work either. I have tried to install several Window updates that are supposed to fix these issues but they will not install. The SURT did run and install. When I try with other programs it says error: 800706F7

Hi all,

Randomly had a not-genuine error pop up on me last night. The copy of windows IS genuine, I purchased this PC directly from DigitalStorm and never had any issues until last night. I'd like to repair any missing/corrupt files if possible.

After searching high and low I've found a few steps to try and diagnose the issue: I've run chkdsk on the OS HD, and then ran SFC SCANNOW from elevated cmd.

I've included the CBS.log and I've also run the diagnostics tool, here are the results (below)

Thank you SO MUCH for any help you can provide!!!

All the best,

Mike

Hi everyone,
I'm not sure if anyone has seen this before. One of my users notified me of a message he was receiving on his laptop. I went to look at it and it read (not exactly but summing it up) that Windows was not genuine. I've seen the message before, obviously, when installing Windows to a computer before putting in the product key. I looked at the Computer properties and it said that Windows is activated. I clicked on "Learn more online..." to the right of "Windows is activated." It took me to a validation tool that is supposed to run and tell you whether Windows is, indeed, genuine, which it said it was. Anybody seen this before? Or know how to fix it? As of now, the only thing I can mark this up as is a virus, which I'm running a virus scan on the computer now. Just hope that it's not a virus. And if it's not, there's an easy way to fix it.

A:Windows not genuine, but it is?

Usually the fastest way to resolve the "windows not activating/genuine, even though I just entered the key" is calling them up and demanding to speak to an agent right off the bat. Usually the automated system is trash. They'll in most cases free up (un-register) the key so you can re-enter it. Here is the support page

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/950929

Also just for refereance did you download windows from the Microsoft Website, from a CD via retailer, or download from a 3rd party website?

A:Windows 7 is not genuine

Your installation of Windows 7 Ultimate is counterfeit.
While everything 'matches', so far as I can see, Windows has discovered the presence of a hacker's Activation Exploit.

For which version and edition of Windows is this machine licensed, according to the COA sticker on the case (or inside the battery compartment)??

You will need to reformat and reinstall using legitimate media and Key - preferably the manufacturer's proper Recovery media for your machine.

Hello, everyone.

I bought a second-hand Compaq notebook recently and was waiting to be able to come online with it. Now I am online I'd like to know how to find out if XP installed on it is genuine and updatable with Windows Update. I don't know whether or not I should use Microsoft's own programme to see if it is genuine or not in case it disables the OS if it's not. What should I do?

If this computer hasn't been activated you should be receiving a prompt to activate this copy of XP when you boot into the operating system.  If you aren't being prompted to do this I would have to believe that this is the original copy of Windows XP.  If the previous owner recently reinstalled the operating system you have 30 days to activate this copy.  After that your computer will only allow you to activate this copy when you boot into the operating system, you will not be able to do anything else.

On the bottom of the notebook there is a tag which contains the 25 alphanumerical product key, this is the key which is used to activate this computer.

Can anyone help me?

I have an Acer 5920G with 4 Gig Ram running Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit. Just the other day it has started saying I made need to replace my battery. The system is 2 years old. I am amazed by this as it is kept in very good condition. I have read on the web that this is likely a software issue with Windows 7 and is either giving a false reading or harming my battery.

Please please can anyone help with this?

I am quite a newbie.

Thanks.

Also Windows keeps popping up with a box saying not genuine. It is a genuine copy so what can I do?

Thanks again.

Need your help!

I replaced a crashing hard drive on my laptop after cloning the faulty one (had not cratered completely). The laptop worked fine for a couple of days and then I began receiving messages from Microsoft advising that I am not running a genuine copy of Windows. This is not true as it came installed when I purchased the laptop.

Any advice as to what I can do other than having to buy another copy of windows 7 ?

Thanx in advance,

txsan

Okay, so I have this Lenovo laptop that has been with me for just a year. A few months ago, this whole 'not genuine' appeared and I tried solving it with the slmgr -rearm thing. I tried to do it again but this time it told me that I have reached the limit. So of course I tried fixing the registry and changing the value of skip rearm. When I tried it again, it told me that all I need to was restart my computer and I thought it was okay already. Looks like I was wrong. It still says that it's not genuine or something like that. Should I reinstall Windows 7? Or is there another way?

Also, two days ago I found out that my laptop has been slowing down and freezing a lot. I checked the task manager and svchost has been taking up 900k of ram. What the heck?? I tried to stop that process but it says access denied even if I'm the administrator.

A friend of mine bought a second hand lap top.He brought it to me to be checked out,He bought this machine from a computer store repair guy,He paid 170e for this machine,

when I checked it out I noticed that the software was not genuine,he used a loader to activate it.he also installed a old 40g sata hdd,not even 1 g of ram and the cpu was in over drive causing random bsod after the machine had been running more than 30 minutes, I went back to the guy and challenged him over all of the above issues,His answer was what did my friend want for 170e,that it was standard practice to install pirated windows and were would you get genuine windows for this sort of money.I told him it was illegal what he had done ,I want to report this person for what he has done, how do I go about this, I'm sure he has done this on 100s of machines...

A:Windows 7 not genuine..

mircrosoft once had a program where if you report pirates you can get discounted operating system - dont know if they still have that program. What the guy did was illegal and it is not standard practice. The guy should have installed a legal version or left the os off the system. Check the bottom of the laptop and see if it still has the sticker for the original os. If it does, you can install that version legally if the key is still visible on it. If you want to report him, go to the following site.

Please follow this tutorial and post an MGADiag report - then we can see what the problem is.

Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!

REN C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CATROOT2 CATROOT2OLD
NET START CRYPTSVC.
Was able to get a positive validation, but after a few minutes reverted back to Validation Code: 0x8004FE21 issue. This is my MGADiag report. any ideas?

Your machine is unlikely to be compatible with any of the Intel SRT drivers - try this version of the Matrix drivers...

Installing theIntel Drivers

try downloadingand installing them from here -

Once complete, please reboot twice, then post another MGADiag report.

first time here.   I have an Acer Aspire that was purchased 3 years ago with Windows 7 loaded.   Now, Microsoft thinks I do not have a genuie copy of Window 7 and  gives me annoying messages. I contacted Microsoft and the support person saw that I do have an activated copy of Windows 7.   Still, I get the messages.    I tried restoring to previous copies, and I tried fixing the startup.     My goal is to fix this without wiping all my installed software, pictures, etc. from the computer.    Suggestions?    How bad can it get with Microsoft?     Do I need a CD from Acer?   How would I ask for that?

Thanks a million,    I really need to solve this.

Hi Bill,Welcome to Community. The Windows Genuine Check is from MS, but could you please post the Screen shot of your System Properties.Get to control panel>System & security> system. Post the screen shot here, as there is no way that the OS could not be genuine, unless the Version is the same the OEM from Acer,. Cheers.

Hi guys,

first post in this forum: so this is just a copy of what I just posted on Win7 q&a, not expecting much from there so, here we go:

Quote:
just had this very same issue today. And yes, I downloaded Win7 from MS and got my key from MS. So today for some graphic corruption I had on the screen, instead of restarting the OS as usual, I launched task manager to try restarting dwm.exe...didn't work very well, I was always sent back to a non-aero display. So I rebooted, and just before login in, I got the message that "this windows version might be counterfeited and I should get a genuine (that sounds so mad lol, on a properly activated beta) I checked the box "asked me later", logged in, everything was normal, windows is still activated, and yes the beta watermark is there and as normal as it always was. As to hardware changes, lol, I'm running a laptop, and no, I didn't install win7 with the same key on any other machine and I didn't give my key to anyone.

I just want to know how this could happen. I've restarted a few times in between now and it didn't happen again...any idea?

thanks for your help anyone

A:Windows Seven not genuine ???

Hello Logos,

Welcome to the Seven Forums.

Sorry, I don't know what could have caused that. If it only happened once, then it just may have been a glitch during that one boot. Keep in mind that this is a Beta and there are going to be some quirks.

If it becomes a problem, let us know. We're here to help.

Enjoy your stay,
Gary

This is weird, I installed Windows Vista Business on a partition on my laptop...but my Windows 7 is now shot. For some reason all the settings are the same as the Business settings, I mean even the wallpaper changed...Now I cant even go to the control panel on 7 since it says that explorer.exe isn'r running but in the task manager it is.

As I said above, it is considered not genuine.\

I put the disc in and ran the startup repair, which it found problems and fixed them but the same problems still occur. My Windows Vista Home Premium has not been affected by this at all, still runs great without a hitch, no setting changes either.

Any advice would be great, if a reinstall is needed, I will just remove it from the pc. If that would be necessary how would I delete that partition even with a windows installation on it?

Thanks in advance,

A:Windows 7 not genuine....

Hi Blackhawk,

Have you by any chance installed a watermark remover (downloaded)? There have been many reports of downloaded watermark removers causing severe issues.

If you are using genuine win7, random deactivation can happen because of a permissions problem in a particular registry key. Follow the steps in this MS page.

Your installation is calseed as counterfeit - Windows has discovered an Activation Exploit.
Your motherboard appears to be a Retail one - the Key is from a Dell computer, as does the SLIC table - but there is no way that Dell would insert a SLIC table into such a BIOS.

You will need to refomat and reinstall with legitimate media and Key
