Y510P is working slow after formatting

Q: Y510P is working slow after formatting

Hi, Just before im losing my mind i turn to you guys for help! A back story about the recent events that got me to the problem:My Lenovo Y510P crashed (couldnt boot to windows) a month ago and needed an HDD replacment according to the tech lab (he is still under warranty). They replaced the HDD and installed the Windows 8 (i had 10 before the crash) from the hidden parttition, when i got my laptop back, i updated to Windows 10 but it crashed on boot screen (just like it did before the HDD got replaced).I sent it back to the lab, this time they just restored it to Windows 8.I tried to update it to 10 and it got stuck on boot again. My laptop went back and forth 3 times like this until they just sent me the laptop with Windows 10 on it. They deleted my hidden parttition and my SSD (24GB) with the laptop backup data so now i cant restore or format and i dont have any drivers or configurations on the Windows 10. So heres the problem- It works a lot slower then it used to! it also take 3 times more to boot!i tried to get all the drivers and searched for BIOS configurations and i found that im missing a progrem called ExpressCache.I downloaded it but i don't think it made a diffrence. Is ExpressCache my solution? Maybe i need to configure it?Here is a screenshot with some details of my ExpressCacheHelp me please! i can send it to the lab again but they will just format it...Thanks! ?

My Lenovo Y510p isnt working, Im on my phone but ill show a video of whats happenning: https://youtu.be/d1nhfJ3PUZ0So my laptop will only turn on for a few seconds before shutting back off and then trying tobshut back off. I cant go into bios, it still crashes after a few seconds. Also a weird thing is itll be stuck in that restarting loop until i plug my charger in and then it just wont turn on at all? It first happened a few months ago but i took it to the shop and they said i was working just fine. Worked for another month, and then did it again, and then it lasted yet another month now doing thia again. The same thing every time. I had it worling yesterday, somehow it just started spontaneously working, and then after shutting it off today it started to loop again. I dont know whats wrong with it??

Hey, I bought Lenovo y510p laptop like 2 weeks ago. It is the SLI version of the y510p. The laptop worked just fine when I was playing with it, ran CSGO and Skyrim on Ultra settings over 60 fps. Couple days ago, my friend broke my charger, and I went to Walmart to buy a new one. I bought the Duracell charger which is 90 watts and it was compatible with my laptop. Then I plugged it in, and tried to play csgo but the fps was like from 5 to 15. I have no idea how this happened. I also took off my battery and just tried to play it without it and just charging the laptop, and when I opened csgo the laptop shut down. I already made virus tests and there was nothing in the viruses. Please help me if you can, I really wouldn't want to send this to the warranty since it's brand new and propably gonna take atleast a month. Thank you already!

My guess is that the Charger may not be compatible with that laptop....90watts yes but has it got the correct DC output.

Also you didn't say how your original charger got broken. like was it attached to the laptop at the time?

What could be happening is..when you plug the new power supply in it is not the correct power your PC expects so it disregards it and runs off the battery at lower everything. As when you take the battery out it will not run at all. Easy place for damage is where the power plug goes into the laptop.

Hello, I bought a Y510P (SLI version) 2,5 years ago (yes, warranty is now expired) and my keyboard stopped working. Two rows of the keyboard didn't respond and after resetting and updating my laptop, contacting lenovo and I had to reset and update another time the problem was still there. Lenovo recommended a repair for my laptop. I declined it because I wanted to see if there were faster/cheaper/better options near my location. Next I searched for a local fast and cheap repair center to repair my laptop because my warranty was over so I had to pay anyway. I found one, send my laptop and a while later they told me it was the keyboard controller chip on the motherboard that was faulty. To repair that they had to replace the whole motherboard. Cost? Around 60% of my original purchase price. Way to much for a student. Went to Lenovo again with this information but of course they couldn't tell me more without a diagnose from their own but I don't want to spend another ?50 on a diagnose. This joke costs me a lot for just the diagnose, let alone the repair.  So my question, does anyone know something about these laptops and do you know if it could be this chip and can it be repaired/replaced instead of a whole motherboard? And, does anybody has experience with the cost of replacing a motherboard with Lenovo? Price in the Lenovo shop for a laptop is just over ?300,- and I don't want to get another offer to repair my laptop voor ?700.  It's sad... Read more

Just realized my dvd drive does not play DVDs since I upgraded to win 10. It doesn't even recognize dvds, showing me only a desktop.ini file instead. It plays CDs just fine and it burns DVDs as storage device, though it **may** only be burning them as a CD, haven't really tested it. I would like to get an updated driver from lenovo, but I can't get past the Q&A session, it either doesn't know my laptop or thinks I'm running win 8.1 or 7. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Mike

Hi I just did a clean Windows 10 install and I cannot get the hdmi (or the vga) output to work. I get no signal. I have the single Nvidia version.  I tried as many drivers I could find for the Intel and Nvidia graphics but no success at all.  Hard disk was replaced so I don't have the recovery partition and I don't have the recovery dvd set either. Would anyone that has hdmi output working on windows 10 please tell me what drivers are using?  Thanks

So, I just noticed this and it has been going on for quite a while I think, the fan on the right side of my laptop is not working. My laptop is an ideapad y510p. The fan not working causes my gpu to go upwards of 75c and I have no clue how to cool it down or make the fan even work in the first place. Any help would be appreciated

Hello!

I want to know how to identify if the second graphics card is working on my Lenovo Y510P.

Each time a turn on something resource intensive, my left gpu is working like crazy with all the heat coming out, and the one on the right seems like not spinning, or spinning but very slowly, and almost no heat is coming out.

Is it supposed to be like that?

Also, can't find Energy Management option to use 'Dust removal' feature.

I'm using Lenovo Y510P 750 SLI on Windows 10.

Cheers,
N

PS. I also want to mention that in NVIDIA Control Panel "SLI Configuration is set tp Maximize 3D Performance" and PhysX settings to Auto-Select.

A:Y510p - Identify if both fans are working

Correct me if I'm wrong but, I dont think GPU's spin, are you referring to the fan? If so, then one fan is for the CPU while the other is for the GPU, Intel GPU is integrated in the CPU while the dedicated GPU has its own fan.

No but seriously, any suggestions?
I've done some research and this issue might be related to the fact that I mostly use my laptop while it is plugged in. I opened it up and got rid of some dust but to no effect.

I have been having serious issues with the 750M (non-SLI) on this laptop. It will not work at all. I have noticed this issue on both Windows 8.1 (factory image) and Windows 7 (fresh install). Device manager lists it as saying: Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43). Disabling and re-enabling the device makes the screen flicker and nothing else. I have tried various driver version configurations (with a driver sweeper run each time) and NOTHING will get it to work on either OS so I am beginning to be convinced that this laptop is a POS and has had the 750M video card die. Attempting to play games clearly illustrates that the intel GPU is being used instead as there is very low FPS.DXDiag will not show the video card even if I disable the intel GPU.GPU-Z shows the video card, but you cant see anything about frequencies or fillrates, bandwidth, sensors etc.

Still nothing... Gonna send it back soon demanding a new one. In the meantime I must reccommend that people do not purchase the Y510p.

Hey everyone,

I bought a Lenovo Y510P laptop yesterday and it is extremely slow. It takes quite long to start up, simple tasks such as opening the control panel will freeze it for a about 30seconds. I haven't dared putting any demanding software on it (apart from Chrome and McAfee (paid subscription)).  My 6-year old Toshiba P300-17R is faster, which is completely ridiculous. I have no idea why it is this slow. Could anyone point me in the right direction for fixing this annoying problem?

I recently updated my Lenono Ideapad Y510P to Windows 10, and after a couple of weeks, I started having this wierd problem with my sound. For some reasons, I always had 2 sound outputs, 1 actually being my speaker, and the other being a random "fictional" speaker. However the fictional speaker was set as default to play some of programs, for an example Counter Strike, which resulted in me not being able to hear what was going on in CS. I tried to deactive the "fictional" speaker in the playback options, but for some reason I couldn't deactive it .. So of course, I uninstalled my drivers, and tried reinstalling. However, my big problem now is, I can't install the driver again. I tried both downloading the driver from your website, downloading the Realtek Audio Driver specifically for my computer (however it was for Windows 8.1, no newer version), and I tried downloading the driver from Realteks own website for Windows 10. Both did in fact start the installation, but after saying "You need to restart in order for the driver to work (or something like that)", nothing happened. I didn't have the driver, nor the Realtek program and worst of all, my sound still isen't working .. Is this a virus, or am I just missing something really important? I hope someone's able to help me! And i hope I posted this in the right forum, if not, someone please move it to the right one

I'm reformatting my disk to install XP Pro. The formatting is moving extremely slow...and there is a message that it's "attempting to recover allocation unit" ...is this an indication that my Hard Drive is bad/corrupted?
Thanks,

A:Formatting going slow

How are you trying to format the drive? . . Format is one of the initial steps in reinstalling XP but you have to boot to the XP CD to do it right.

Enter BIOS ( Setup ) and make sure the CD/ROM the first boot device. Put your XP Disc in the drive and disconnect all external peripherals except the keyboard and mouse, and be sure those are not USB, or wireless.

Once you set your BIOS to boot first from cd . . when it restarts you will see a black screen with a prompt "Press any key to boot from cd" . . do that and you will be able to delete partitions and recreate the ones you want and proceed to formating and installing XP

That message can pass quickly, so have a finger on the keyboard when you boot. This will delete all data on the drive so be sure you have your important data backed up.

This is a good guide to reinstalling XP . . you might want to print it for reference during the install.

http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/windowsxp_sg_clean.asp

You will have to reload drivers and applications, After the installation, you will need to download and install the MicroSoft Critical Updates. Alternately, this would be a good time to install SP-2, while windows is clean. Prior to connecting to the internet be sure you enable the XP firewall.

Good luck and have fun . . wrs

Hey!So I'm writing this post from my phone because I've got very limited options right now.You see, the problem I'm experiencing is that I cannot install windows on my SSD. I've formatted with the installer, I've formatted using diskpart, I've deleted the partition and made it into unallocated space, but nothing is working. This is what it says when I try to install:"Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition."I've unplugged my HDD to see if that was the issue, it was not. I've tried going from ahci to ide in the bios sata options. I'm at a dead end, and I really hope someone can help me. Thank you for any replies!

Ok, I got quite a big problem that's been going on for quite a lot of time now (more than one year probably). My PC looks fine for like 1 hour of formatting, after that, it gets slow "in the same way".

Like it will lag a bit when I open a program (or switch between programs), it will get real slow when I boot it (around 3 mins with just avast internet security launching during start-up).

Another slow happens when I launch outlook.com to check my mails, it will 'load' for like 10 seconds after the page has actually loaded before I can start checking my e-mails, and this is not an internet speed problem, the page loads, but seems to kind of be getting ready to load the e-mails, which doesn't happen in that 1 first hour after I've formatted my PC.
Then, when there are flash contents in my firefox, firefox gets totally slow.

Another big problem is multi-tasking. If I'm installing something, it will be almost impossible to do something else.

I installed ubuntu a couple of months ago, and I only kept it for a week, but it never got slow, while with windows 7 it gets slow almost immediately. Now I could try to test dual-booting with XP to see if XP will get slow or not, because honestly I'm clueless as to what could the problem actually be.

During hard work, my (CPU I think) will make this 'grgrgrgrgrgrgr' noise which makes it look really stressed.

I would like to say that my pc is 'a bit' old (bought it almost 4 years ago), but when I first bought it, none of these... Read more

A:Windows 7 gets slow even after formatting.

Hmm, given your specs, you should be zipping around. Heck it's a quad-core with 6 Gb of RAM.
I have similar specs and I have no issues at all.

Can you specify what you mean by "formatting"? I think you may be calling "formatting" something that isn't formatting.
If you reformat your drive everything on it is erased and you have to reinstall Windows 7 and then all your stuff. From the screen I see that you have around 300 Gb of stuff in your primary drive.
I doubt it's something you do so light-headed.

Then, for the sake of ease of reading specs, please follow this tutorial to scan and load all your PC's specs in your profile. So that everyone here can look them up easily.

Now, with only what you said, there could be various issues:
-a failing hard drive
-overheating
-missing drivers

For the first you need to know what is the model of the drive and then download the program that scans it for errors from it's manufacturer's site.

For the second, try running the PC with the case open. And possibly identify better what is the component that is doing the noise.
It is either a fan or a hard drive. If it is a fan and it is doing really a lot of noise, then changing it may be necessary, as it is a sign that it is breaking. You should have a fan over the CPU, a fan over the GPU (graphic card) and maybe a fan attached to the case. And a fan in the PSU (the box where the power cable from the wall plug attaches to).
If it is a hard drive, again this is a bad sign... Read more

My laptop decided to throw a strop yesterday and created itself an error in lsass.exe and wouldn't start up properly. My partner formatted the laptop and reinstalled windows XP, I sat for an hour or so and installed all of the updates available on the Microsoft update website (for some reason after installing all 65 available urgent updates, and sp2, the website won't load anymore, just leaving me with the message informing me it is checking what updates are available for my computer and a green flashy box???)

Anyway! The graphics have become incredibly slow and blocky since formatting, and the computer itself isn't really up to speed despite having 896MB RAM... Any ideas? Please help! It's driving me insane!

My computer used to work fine and above standard speeds a month ago. Now that i formatted my computer due to all the junk i had, its still slow and randomly unresponsive. I have "Fix-it utilities personnel" but that doesn't do anything. Only a bit but after that, its back to the same old sluggish computer.

I have 4 GB RAM as well so memory shouldn't be an issue. I can often play games like Garry's mod because it minimizes, tells me that i have low memory then shuts down the video game by force even though the game requires just 2 GB of RAM.

Please help me. Its making it hard for me to work on my computer because its too slow!

A:Computer too slow even after formatting?

Not sure if it was your first and only mistake, but "Fix It Utilities" wouldn't be my idea of a solution to "too slow".

I'd either uninstall or it at least ignore it.

Better to work on what is using your CPU cycles and RAM.

Have you investigated what processes and services you have running by looking at msconfig, Task Manager, or Resource Monitor?

When did you last do a complete virus and malware scan with something other than Fix It Utilities?

And your System Specs are incomplete, so you may have an antique CPU for all we know.

Are you willing and able to do a clean install if it comes to that?

The machine is extremely slow. I formatted it few days ago but it seems that it doesn't help.
The only software that installed were: avast antivirus ,Microsoft office starter 2010 and Chrome.
No documents, photos were uploaded - comp is completely empty
My windows 7 is up today (all important updated have been installed).

many times it takes about 1 min to open control panel, launch browser etc., it freezes all the time...

Not sure what is the issue. if it was virus it should be deleted during formatting through recovery manager.

Hello

I recently formatted a PC and re-installed Windows XP Pro SP3 - however after installing windows it was taking a good 4/5 minutes before windows would boot fully and allow me to open internet etc. It also would hang on a black screen shortly before the Windows 'Welcome' screen. Once it had booted the Windows Taskbar would also be very slow to finally load everything.

After the 4/5 minutes it seems to work ok but just generally seems very sluggish.

I've replaced HDD and RAM in the computer recently as the RAM needed upgrading and the previous HDD wasn't great (it's only an old PC thats used for internet browsing and word processing).

The computer spec is as follows:
Motherboard: AS Rock GE-PRO M2
RAM: 2x 1gb PC2700 333mhz RAM
CPU: Intel Pentium 4 2.2ghz
HDD: 160gb Seagate HDD (IDE)
GFX: Nvidia MX420 GFX

I'm a bit stumped as to what is causing such slow performance, generally after a fresh windows install the computer runs fine and is nice and quick however it has just become very bogged down and slow.

If anyone has any ideas that would be great.

Hello everyone, i've had my PC for about 5yrs now and after it got low on disk space it started freezing alot, so i decided to restore it back to factory settings. All programs and everything else were gone (just like I wanted) and it still has problems freezing. I keep getting the "not responding" message when im on Firefox and even when im not online and try to open certain programs that i installed. The programs that i've installed so far are Ccleaner, MBAM, and Avira antivirus. I don't think the programs are the problem because it started freezing before I installed any of those programs. Could it be my hard drive going bad?

Hi,

I am trying to create two conditions for conditional formatting, but I am not doing something right.

First off, I am trying to set the background of one report field based on the text value of another. The expression I am using in the conditional formatting window is:

[Assigned To] = "Agency" And [due date] = Date()

It is not returning the conditional formatting in the report view.

If I just base it on the value in [due date] it works:

[due date]=Date()

But if I base it on the text value in [Assigned To] then it does nothing:

[Assigned To] = "Agency"

Even when I try to set a conditional format in the [assigned to] field itself, it does not work. In other words if I select " Field Value" "Is Equal To" then use the value "Agency" I do not get a result.

Can anyone help?

Thanks,

Tom

masscomputer Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums! According to the HP Product Page for your PC, it came with Windows 8.1 preinstalled, not Windows 8. If you reformatted the drive and installed Win8 in its place, that is a problem as HP does not supply drivers for OSs older than Win8.1 for this PC. To get full functionality on this PC, you need to factory restore it to Win8.1 -- and you would probably have to order HP Recovery Media to do that. Good Luck========================================================================I am a volunteer and I do not work for, nor do I represent, HP.---------------------------------------------------------------If my posts helped you, please click the Thumbs-Up symbol to say thanks. If my posts solved your problem please click "Accept As Solution".========================================================================

Hi mosaic1 and members,
I have been doing a fair bit of fiddling getting my setup revamped and all of my 5 drives organized, and was wanting to copy a 200 gig drive to a 250 gig drive for a certain reason..
normally this is no problem at all using Casper XP or XXClone...but for a reason "I forget the name of, and how to correct the cause" the transfer is really very slow at 400 Mb per min instead of about 2500 Mb / min
I have had slow transfer before during normal data copy and paste and a notice came up saying XXX (I forget which letters were used) was turned off and data transfer will be slow...would I like to enable XXX transfer...to which I clicked OK and all was well...well I feel the same problem has happened after the format of the receiving disk in the casper transfer which I formatted because windows was doing a long and laborious drive check every startup because drive was "Dirty" as it said...
Anyway...all of the above story is to ask how to turn on the fast data transfer...please...lol
thanks,
Or perhaps there might be something wrong with the hard drive needing the fast transfer to be turned on more than once...oh, I should mention it is only ever the same drive that gets the message..
These are ATA drives IDE connected to the mother board..not USB.

A:Vista runs SOOO slow after formatting

well before you go any further you know that 10 gigs free on vista is nothing.
unplug all hard drives except the one you want to install too.
get all your current drivers and windows updates then let it sit and run as vista will be very busy when it is fresh.Dump the side bar .You are short for ram as well.
Now isnt the time to change settings as superfetch is learning.Train it with 2 or 3 of your main applications by using them.
next try to change all your settings as efficiantly as possible.Go download all the applications you are going to need.
You are about done except superfetch has to relearn because of all the applications you just installed.yes the installers are ready for quick deploy now but you dont need them anymore.
When you boot up go do something for a few minutes as vista is busy with the hard drive come back and you are ready.
After that never reboot unless you are forced to.... use hibernate.
The longer vista can stay up without a reboot the better it runs.

get some ram ....vista needs 2 gigs

I was wondering if enabling compression when formatting a USB drive slow it's writing ability?

I recently did this to a new USB drive & I swear it seems to be taking a lot longer to write/transfer/copy files to it than it should. But it could just be me.

A:Will enabling compression when formatting USB drive slow it's writing?

compression, almost by definition trades speed for space.
I would expect a noticeable change when doing it with usb devices.

Last night, I tried to transfer a video file as I've done dozens of times. It didn't work. I tried a second time and realized it was because the file was more than 4GB which FAT32 USB drives will not accept.

I successfully formatted the new USB drive to NTFS.

My question is can I convert it back to FAT32? Can I do this using the same method (right-click drive checked off and optimized performance then right-click and select NTFS) I did from FAT32 to NTFS or is something else required?

Is it dangerous to due this? I will only be using this USB stick on my Windows laptops, dvd player and not on my iMac.

A:USB drive formatting back to FAT32 after formatting to NTFS

Hi and welcome to SevenForums,

You are correct, you can just format the drive back to FAT32 and no it shouldn't cause any issues doing this.
I have swapped between file system types many times and never had an issue.

So, my y510p is having really anoying problem.  Sometimes computer works fine (really rarely) but usually it just doesnt start. I need to press powerbutton atleast 50 times until it finally start, and when it starts the screen is just blinking black and keys are blinking too, the problem becoming more general when it gets "cold" (Cold = normal indoor temperature 22 celsius) it also takes ages to get windows screen I have already visited warranty with my laptop and it was there 1.5 months, and they changed keyboard (why?!?!) and send it back, they said that they run some tests without any problems. Then i got my computer back, NOTHING CHANGED, same problems and all, what should i do?!  I have already soft-reseted, reseted bios and reseted whole system, nothing works!  Could you please be in touch with the store i bought it from, because I want my money back for not-working laptop worth 1200e in my country. They said that i need to send my computer back to warranty, for another 1.5 month journey (what is over what they promised, they said 10-15 workdays)  PLEASE HELP ME! anything but not another warranty trip! I also have very good video of the problem if you want me to send it to you.  My model is the one with 750M and 24gb ssd cache.

A:Overclocking GPU and CPU in y510p

If you use the Intel Xtreme Tuning utility you can adjust the multipliers but that is all. The CPU already runs way to hot (and throttles as a result) so overclocking it will only make it worse. I did the opposite and undervolted mine so not only does it run cooler but it doesn't throttle anymore so it actually runs faster then a stock one.

I installed Windows 10 last year and had to uninstall it due to wi-fi connectivity dropping.   Searching the internet, this seemed to be a frequent problem and Lenova did not support Windows 10 for the Y510P and did not provide drivers. I really liked windows 10 and would love to go back to it.    Is anyone running it, and how did you resolve the wi-fi connectivity issue?    I see on the Lenova Website they still don't list Windows 10 for this model.    Too bad.  Makes me really dislike Lenova products when they don't support OS upgrades.

Hello there, I have had my IdeaPad Y510p Laptop - 59369999 for 2 years without any problems, until today.  I started watching a video & everything froze for a good 5 minutes.  I held the power button until my laptop shut down, when I turned it on it said "scanning and repairing drive c". It started up normally, I gave it time, moved the mouse once everything had loaded & it froze again. Then the screen went blank with the cursor working, then the cursor dissappeared. Does anyone know of this is a simple fix? Thank you!

Found a possible fix (workaraound) of the famous screen flicker problem. I've tried all of the proposed fixes found anywhere on the web and nothing worked for more than 5 minutes. I also sent it to be serviced, came back even worse. The screen would go crazy when showing high contrast images with a lot of black. The flicker was most prominent when testing the pixel-walk(inversion) on this website:http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/inversion.phpIf you have the same problem, try applying pressure on the LCD frame in one of the corners. In my case the flicker went away. I put a piece of fabric between the plastic and the metal LCD frame and after some fiddling I managed to find a sweet spot with no flicker. My laptop is y510p with 755M SLI and FullHD screen.Try at your own risk!Cheers

A:y510p screen flicker FIX!

Ok, I have an update. The flickering can be fixed with a bit of DIY. There's a band cable attaching the display circuit to the metal frame holding the LCD. This band is glued with some sort of conductive glue that goes bad over time, messing up the electronics somehow, I guess preventing the capacitors from discharging properly, dunno.Try and make your own conductive band, I made mine using aluminum tape, it works very well. No flicker noticeable for over a week.Once again, try at your own risk.

I have a Lenovo Y510p. My warranty expired over a year ago, but my screen recently broke. I've tried to repair it myself, but it still won't display properly. Every time I call Lenovo I get a message to "schedule a callback," and every time I go to schedule a callback the web site tells me I'm out of warranty and won't allow me to schedule a callback. I've been to the BIOs screen and looked around. I've searched through forms and everything. I'm about to just buy a new battery for it and see if that fixes it. But I'd like to know what happened so I can prevent it from happening again. Did the battery just get too old and decide to die on me? It's been very frustrating.

Messing with the task manager too much will cause it too, to stop responding for a long time. Eventually, Firefox will close, and things start behaving as normal. Hey, I know there are already a few topics with the same subject, however none have the exact same situation as mine as most are US based. I too have a powerful Lenovo Y510P SLI with a Intel Centrino N2230 wifi card. I am buying a new router for my student room and since I want to buy things that can last for a few years, opted for a wifi AC router (probably an Asus one). But, this laptop won't support it... I looked in the technical maintaince manual to find which wifi cards are supported for the Y510P, there is one Wifi AC card for the Y410P, but according to various posts will also work in the Y510P as they share the same BIOS whitelist. I don't want to flash the BIOS with a custom modded one which removes the whitelist. (I flashed a desktop Asus motherboard to run OSX, went great, runs well, but I can't experiment with this laptop, need it for university.). So I Googled and Ebayed the partnumer and this one came up: Ebay Link, which says "Only for Lenovo/IBM laptops such as Y510P" should be fine right? Only thing is it is 40 USD, Dutch customs will charge 21% on top of it so that makes 48 USD, and the Dutch postal office will charge anywhere between 15-20 USD for paperwork for importing goods. So that makes an total of 68 USD... so that almost doubles the cost of the upgrade...  I used the FRU number for this card: WLAN, WiFi AC+BT4.0, Ltn BCM4352+20702 2x2AC+BT4.0 HMC which is 20200381, and put in the search engine in the "part number" ... Power cycling is the best way I can describe it. Approximately once a day, my y510p will power cycle all of its USB ports simultaneously, this is the two USB 3.0 ports as well as the USB 2.0 port (which makes things even stranger considering they are on separate controllers). I will lose connection to all devices (for me an external hard drive, USB 3.0 dock, and USB 2.0 mouse) and they will all come up again a moment later as just being plugged in. It is not the same time of day each day. My drivers are up to date. This occurred under Windows 8.1 64-bit and Windows 10 64-bit. There is also no correlation to whether there is a lot of data moving through the ports or if they are just idle.

So I have a Lenovo Y510P IdeaPad, I upgraded it to Windows 10 last December and wanted to downgrade it back to Windows 8/8.1 due to some issues that many said are due to the fact that the model doesn't really support Windows 10 thus I experience the problems. However, since it has been more than a month from the upgrade, I can't just roll it back to previous OS and am wondering if there is any way I can find out what my original product key for the pre-activated Windows 8 so I can perform a clean reinstall with it.

If windows came pre-installed on your laptop, the key might be on its certificate of authenticity. Alternatively, you can obtain the key using third party softwares like ProduKey. It'll display the currently activated key on your system.

Can any of you guys suggest any tips to correct this?  Thanks in advance  EDIT: Does installing the OS on the 24 GB SSD affect the gaming performance in any way? My SSD got damaged and there is no SSD in it currently. The is only the HDD.

Hi all,

Last night, my keyboard suddenly decided it didn't want to work. The following keys rarely work (occasionally after hitting them a gazillion times): 0 (wow it worked just now), p (using on screen keyboard, now 0 is not working so I need onscreen to close these parentheses), colon/semicolon key, and slash/question mark key.

I really hoe this is not a hardware issue as this comuter isnt even 2 years old yet, and having a functioning keyboard is kind of essential. Esecially when some of the affected keys are in your assword... Not sure if the 4 affected keys are connected hysically and thats why theyre acting u together, or if this could have something to do with the fact that the issues arose immediately after some Windows udates.

I would immensely areciate any hel ! Thank you!

A:y510p - keyboard problem

Hi Imjustaguy ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Better to isolate hardware issue from software is to make the computer boot on a rescue media and try typing from it . Using an external USB keyboard and onscreen keyboard further isolate probability of a bad keyboard specially if same thing fails in BIOS (like test typing the affected letter in security password  but NOT to save it , for testing only) .

Update us how it goes.

Hello, for professional purposes I plan to upgrade the existing 8gbof available RAM on my laptop to 12gb or 16gb, depending on price range. I know next to zero about RAM consideration for optimal compability/performance. I uploaded two images of the currently installed RAM cards. There are still 2 slots available, could someone point me to recommended/compatible RAM cards? (If I can order it from amazon, the better). Thank you for the support.?

I bought one of the first Lenovo IdeaPad y510p. Having a dual gpu made for a lot of gaming fun. Yesterday, the room filled up with the smell of an electrical burn. I checked the underside the Lenovo. It had been hotter. I heard workers outside my window and figured that the smell may come from them. A few minutes later very thick smoke came out of the left air vent and made a column in the air. I quickly pulled out the power cord and battery. Luckily, the house is still standing. I understand that electronics eventually fail. Yet, this seems unsafe and dangerous. What if I weren't in the room to act quickly? There should be some way to report this. The support page to send a message has been down with an under maintenance message for days.

I recorded some saved programs on my Dish Network DVR 622 to an external hard drive that formatted it for that purpose according to their instructions. Can the external hard drive now be reused by being hooked up to my standalone computer and reformatted or have I lost it because of that use? If so, how do I do it? I do not want to save anything on the drive--just format it and use it for a different purpose. I no longer have the Dish DVR. When I connect the external drive to my desktop I do not even see an icon for it in My Computer.
Thanks for any help.

A:Formatting external drive after dvr formatting

Hi

its possible it has been formatted using a non standard file system, use disk manager to view the drive and remove any partitions on it, then use disk manager to recreate parttions on the drive

Start >settings> control panel> admin tools >computer management >disk manager.

Hi folks I'm new to the forums to please excuse me. I'm currently posting from my phone so when my laptop comes on I'll attach the debug file.

Basically I set my laptop to sleep instead of shutting it down and when I went back to resume my work (about 20 hours later) it was running very slow.

I was searching for my 'Calculator' but made a typo so I tried backspacing the letter but nothing happened. Chrome (which I had opened at the time) was unresponsive and so was my taskbar.

I waited a while to see if anything would happen but nothing did so I forced shut down.

I left it off for almost a half hour and when I put it on I got that error 'Unmountable_Boot_Volume' and it needed to restart and so it did but then the error came up again this time it did an automatic repair which lasted a few seconds then it was diagnosing which lasted a few seconds and then I got the following message:

Automatic Repair
Your PC did not start correctly.
Press restart to restart your PC which might sometimes fix the problem. You can also press Advance options to try other options to repair your PC.

I clicked restart and it did.. I got a black screen for a minute or two but I got to log in. But once again everything was moving slow so as the start menu seemed to be working I shut down the laptop. (It's currently off)

Can anyone assist me with this problem?
It would be really good if I can actually find out what's really wrong with my laptop.
Thanks.

When the recovery menu appears go to TroubleShoot > Advanced Options > Startup Settings > Press the Restart Button.

When it loads up again you'll be met with the a screen with options, Press F5 to boot into Safe-Mode With Networking, navigate to C:\Windows\minidumps and copy all files there to a Zip archive folder and upload them to the forum in your next post.

Just wanted to let others know about the SLI Graphics Card. All of a sudden my pc shutdown while viewing a Youtube video. I smelled some weird burning smell coming from the computer. Wouldn't boot, eventually I pulled the second graphics card on the right side of the pc. Looked at it and there was major burn spot on it. Started up the PC and it was fine without the graphics card. There must be some sort of overheating issue and they are defective. I rarely play games on this pc and this occured simply watching a youtube video which seems really odd. I do have two monitors hooked up to the system.

Hi all, I have the lenovo y510p SLI 750m version and recently (2-3 days ago) my cpu fan on the left side of the laptop stopped working with the dust removal tool. I removed the lid and I can see both fans spinning just fine, however only the right one actually performs the dust removal when prompted. The other one stays queit and I don't feel any air pushed out of the left side. I can feel it on the right like normal though. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Greetings.

You can initially power drain the system , turning it off removing the ac adapter and battery then pressing down the power button for 12 seconds . Start the machine using the Novo button (page 82) to launch the Novo menu for BIOS set up and set BIOS defaults f9 save and exit F10. Check the BIOS version.

Check how it goes else proceed with uninstalling and fresh installing the Lenovo power mangement tool . Restart and recheck .

Hello 8-forums.

I'm posting on behalf of my little brother since he isn't the sharpest when it comes to computers. Today his computer started freezing and crashing out of nowhere at completely random times. I couldn't pinpoint an activity he was doing which might have caused it.

On top of that a pop-up kept coming up on his screen about his screen driver having crashed and has been restored. I happen to have the same laptop and I've had this problem for a week or 2 too, but nothing happens when it shows up on my screen (unlike his, where it crashes the computer). His screen now also has blue matrix-like lines all over his screen as a result of todays crashes.

I asked him to send the Zip-file from the DM log collector tool. He only had a BSoD once and he didn't notice the error code. The rest were freezes (forced to restart) and crashes (no BSoD screen).

Hope you can help find a solution to my brothers problem.
Regards Jens and Walther

Every partition needs at least 10-15% free space so Windows can do its thing in the background.

How many of you have been unable to get the maximum performance of your system? You can make a shortcut of the clocks using the program and then just start the program and execute the Clocks shortcut before playing. I had been struggling with playing CS:GO on SLI for 1.5-2 years maybe. Hi there. I'm just hoping that I can find the solution as soon as possible. So I tried playing some casual games yesterday and all of a sudden the game froze and the image started tearing apart. Next thing you know it, the screen went blank. So I force shut down it and reboot, but after the Lenovo logo, the screen goes blank. There's a faint glow, but there's no image or cursor. Could it possibly be that the GPU crashed and there's no graphic to power the display? Or should I try entering Recovery Mode or Safe Mode to switch the display graphic to Intel HD? Besides, how do I enter Safe/Recovery Mode since I'm on Windows 10. Any help would be much appreciated.

BSOD-xperts:
I've suddenly been afflicted with BSOD's on my Lenovo Y510P running Win 8.1. Everything was fine until about 2 weeks ago and then I started experiencing multiple BSOD's to the point that I had to boot in SafeMode. After doing some research, it looked like the issues were related to video (NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M) and wireless/bluetooth drivers. I upgraded all of those and everything was fine for a week until this morning when I got another BSOD. After looking for the bug check that it reported, I stumbled on this forum and saw some excellent responses so I thought I'd give it a whirl. I downloaded BlueScreenView and ran that and I've attached the output. I have also attached output from the MiniToolBox tool. I also tried to upload the mini-dump files but I get a message saying I'm "not permitted to upload this kind of file" but I'm happy to do so if I'm allowed to.  Here is a link the output from the Speecy tool as well - http://speccy.piriform.com/results/j7BzfFXyiX3xHgrhWQqHjXV. Would someone be so kind as to give it a look and let me know your thoughts? Thanks!

Hi, I wanna turn on the laptop and have the Num Lock key activated. Right now I've edited the registry value from "HKEY_USERS\.Default\Control Panel\Keyboard/InitialKeyboardIndicators". I changed the value "2147483648" by number "2". The issue is still there, cause not ALWAYS I turn on the laptop, the Num Lock is activated, just sometimes, which is also weird too. So... what do I have to do to set Num Lock to activated by default when turning on? Thanks!

Recently, my Y510p screen has begun to change some pixels colors (green and purple) based on how far I open the lid of the laptop. Currently, I cannot open the lid past approximately 90 degrees or the screen's color will change. Websites are still readable, I believe that it has something to do with the connections in the joints of the laptop, but I am not positive.

Here is a picture of the lenovo website with the issue occurring.

Some extra information:

Laptop Age: ~ 5 months
Never been dropped
College Use (Usually kept on desk in dorm room)
Light travel in backpack
Always closed lid on shutdown
I do have a warranty plan, if nothing can be done, worst case I can send my computer back.

If anyone else has been having this issue and been able to have it fixed, please chime in with what was causing your problems.

A:Y510p Screen Green at Certain Angles

Hello, I know this post is very old but I would love to know how you fixed the problem or if you returned the laptop. I have been having this problem for like 6 months or even more, but now it's become so bad that I almost have no LCD angle position where I don't get these pin/green/red dots. They move with the video or pictures and I believe there are only certain colors that trigger this problem. But now, it's become worse so I get this problem at nearly all the colors. I personally believe the problem is in the screen connector, because it depends on screen tilt position. Also, when this problem started, when I pressed the laptop near the LCD hinge on the right side, the dots disappeared or reduced. But now, almost nothing helps. There's just like 1 or 2 very precise LCD tilt positions where I get very less such green/red/pink dots.  This is my first post/reply and I had to make an account just to ask this question! Hoping to hear from you and the community.

Dear Lenovo family! I have bought this laptop (Y510P) around the end of December 2013. I have just decided to write these after long time of having issues with gaming. Also tooday I have just changed my Hard drive to SSD with booting windows 10 64bit from scrach hoping that it would all come to an end however it did not. -I have updated all the software, drivers etc. I have uploaded a RAR folder including my Nvidea system information, speccy system screen shot and all the logs from event viewer.  Now here is the problem I am having. When I start playin a game (For instance CS:GO) at first it is all good:-As soon as I run the game SLI gets activated.-Fans starts getting faster and both graphic cards getting warmer.-After 10-15 minues of gameplay, game freezes, screen gets minimized for 3-4 seconds and eveything freezess then games screen comes back and another 1-2 seconds game freezes then starts back on.- Problem repeates after another 10-15 minutes of game play. What  could be the problem?Could it be CPU speed is not properly working?Could it be because of the Graphic cards? I will be waiting for your help! Thank you all!

Hopefully this'll help some people thinking of upgrading . NOTE: Some people are having issues with wireless cards after upgrading. I'm not sure of solution yet, but I would recommend predownloading the Windows 10 drivers from Intel's website before the upgrade. - So far drivers have not solved issue. Not sure of solution yet. Everything went smoothly for me. All fiels, programs, drivers, and settings transferred from my Windows 7 install to Windows 10 (and also from 8.1 to 10 on my Dell, so I assum it'll work on a Lenovo too). Upgrade process was painless and took about 20 minutes. Only temporary issue was video drivers, but that got solved later. Make sure you check for updates in Windows Update right after you upgrade; there's a day one patch they put out and it fixes quite alot of bugs (1GB of them actually). This fixed any driver issues I had and made my screen resolution normal, as it was previously running 800x600 or something, so don't freak out if your screen look weird at first. It automatically changes your default programs though, so if you use Chrome or Firefox you'll need to change it back to that from the new Edge browser. Otherwise, most settings were imported. So far I have found nothing that is incompatible with Windows 10 on my computer; however, beware that you will need to reinstall your anti-virus when Windows prompts you, as it is uninstalled prior to the upgrade. Doesn't cause any issues though and your computer is not at risk ... Read more

Hey everybody, I'm writing this for a friend who I've been trying to help with this issue for a while now.He owns a Y510P and is currently running Windows 10 64 Bit on it.His laptop is mostly running fine, he can play certain games including WoW and LoL without an issue. Others, like Path of Exile won't crash completely, but sometimes the graphics driver will crash and recover, blacking out his graphics for a second or so but then resuming. Other games, like Deus Ex: HR, Overwatch, Vermintide or Helldivers seem to randomly crash in a matter of minutes. Either the game crashes back to desktop without a specific error message or the laptop locks up completely and he needs to restart. This seems to be somewhat related to the load on the system, as he can safely sit in the (already rendered) lobbies of Vermintide and Helldivers or play the practice range in Overwatch which doesn't have other player characters. Once in an actual game, the crashes quickly start happening. I quickly found people suggesting this might be an issue with the power-saving feature when the drivers mistakenly switch back to the integrated card for just a moment, which seems to be causing trouble for other people. But disabling the integrated card via BIOS can't be done without a third-party unlocked BIOS which I won't risk him flash on his laptop and possibly brick it. Other suggestions like forcing the game to use the nVidia card didn't work, either, cause those options were either not...
