Hello!
I'm Mihai from Romania!
I have a big problem with my laptop. After I've got CPU error (hdd led blink) i decided to buy a motherboard from ebay. The seller did not specify the status of motherboard, that she has bios password.
I try contacted dell trough chat service but they are unable to understand that, I buoyed from ebay, and i can not guarantee the origin of my board.
Here is the ebay link and i can certify the trasaction from paypal or ebay... Is a reseller of computer parts
Is there any hope to get master BIOS pasword in this case?
Thank you in advance!

A:Dell Latitude E6330 BIOS PW

This is a tough one, That can be a problem with buying from Ebay is that if you don't have information of the original purchaser then any existing warranty may not transfer to you,  and tech support will not be able to offer any services, or even help with a BIOS password.  If you haven't already i suggest contacting tech support again and showing all the documents that you have to verify ownership.
This document goes over more on recovering hardware passwords.

Hi,
Any advice?
I have a 9010 SFF that was working fine, except that it would not install the Windows 10 Anniversary Update.  Repeatedly, about 30% through the update it failed with a BSOD. I tried several times.
Somewhere I read that the BIOS might need updating so I headed over to DELL support.  I let the website automatically detect my system and it found a recommended BIOS update, version A24.
I initiated the BIOS update from the website and it seemed to run successfully but when the PC rebooted it hung half way through POST.
On a second attempt to start the machine - nothing - no display, no light, just will not start.
I tried clearing the NVRAM as indicated on the DELL website here: www.dell.com/.../SLN284985
I tried both the RTCRST jumper method and the battery removal method.
The result - it now continuously reboots but still no POST, no display, nothing.
I should add that during the original BIOS update, the PC had a Quadro 600 graphics card and a LSI 9200-8e SAS adapter card inside. They had both been working faultlessly and were removed when I tried to reset the BIOS NVRAM.
Any suggests on what next to recover my "bricked" desktop?

Hey guys.
Pretty much what the title says - Dell's new, recently-released ControlVault driver (version A19) does not successfully install on a Dell Latitude E6330.  I followed the driver installation order from the "Dell Business Client Re-Image 'How-To' Guide" and installed the Dell ControlVault driver last.  It did not work.
Attached is a screenshot of what I got, and the Windows Installer log.

Hi,
I have a Dell E6330 with Fan Malfunction Error on Start Up. I've run the onboard diagnostics (using f5 option when error displayed) and all tests including the fan tests have passed with no errors.
I receive this error message probably 1 in 3 start ups.
I've updated the BIOS and cleaned fan as suggested by online forums but issue persists.
Also, fan when it kicks in can be a little loud (after 30-60 mins of use) but not too distracting before it quietens down again and then follows with a loud and lengthy repetitive/revving cycle  30-60 mins later lasting probably around a minute or 2 before it quietens down again but relatively quite other than that and not sure if this is normal.
I've noticed upon opening the laptop, there was some black tape. I bought this second hand on ebay so not sure if it's supposed to be there and if linked at all to problem. Reached out to ebay seller for clarification and awaiting a response
Please see images below for clarification.
Any help would be much appreciated and thanks in advance :)

A:bios update fail, pc can't start

Hey,My son's laptop did this blank screen too - only power button light was on, but no fan, no key lights, nothing.  I tried the same hard reset -remove batt, press power.  Almost took it apart to reseat the RAM, but decided to search the forum again (sorry I can't find that hp support page anymore).  Anyways, you will read that beside hard rest and reseating RAM, they will tell you to try connecting it to an external monitor to check if it is a display problem. Short story, none of the above worked for me, EXCEPT THIS - hold down Windows key and "B" key.  While holding down the Windows and B key, press and hold the power button for about one second, then release all 3 buttons.  The power key will light up, wait for about 40 seconds (more or less), then the BIOS will update. Hope it works for you too. UPDATE:  I just found the link again.... I followed step 3...

From what I understand  your notebook works fine when using English keyboard layout, but does not work as expected if you change to Spanish keyboard layout.

Check your BIOS for a language or region setting and adjust as needed.  Also - look in control panel for keyboard settings and install additional keboard layout for Spanish.

Good luck.

Is this an AMI BIOS.
If so, and you can get the new BIOS onto a floppy, there is a possibility you may still be able to flash the new BIOS.

Most Mobos with an AMI BIOS will look for a floppy disk with a bios update on it.

Hi, New to the board and looking for some help. I have a w500 still in warranty. We have been having issues with running Vista and the machine not rebooting after hibernation. Today I found some time to run updates using the pre-loaded ThinkVantage software on the machine. There were quite a few on there including a Bios update... upon running the updates and the machine restarting at the end, I get a black screen....  and nothing... the power lights are on but not more.  I have called Lenovo tech support and they advised me that because I did the Bios update (as part of the many updates that were suggested I required) I have voided my warranty support for this problem.... apparantly I was made aware of this as part of the disclaimer prior to running the updates!!!   Does anyone have any suggestions on steps forward from this point?

About six months ago, I upgraded the hard drive for my Dell Inspiron 2200 from the original 25 GB to a Western Digital 120 GB. Two weeks ago, the drive failed and I returned the drive to Western Digital for replacement. Today I received the replacement drive and Western Digital has sent me a 250 GB drive. My problem is that the original BIOS (1.10 A03) supports a maximum drive size of 120 GB. I've checked Dell's website and as far as I can determine, none of the BIOS updates address a larger hard drive. Can anyone verify that I am correct about this? I can't email Dell about it, since my warranty has expired. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Bios updates require special installation and must be done alone. It cannot be done with other drivers. Bios updates should be done before updating to win 10 not after. Use caution updating bios since it can brick your computer.
You should not be updating the drivers yourself. Go to Dell Drivers and downloads and let the scanner tell you what windows 10 drivers you need--

Hello,

Have a Dell desktop, XPS 8900.

A pop up presumably from Dell says it wants to "update" my System BIOS.

Sounds scary.

Isn't the BIOS the complete "guts" of the OS ?
Whys should an update be necessary ?

Should I do it ?

Thanks,
Bob

A:DELL Wants To Update My System BIOS: Questions On, Please ?

The BIOS (Basic Input Output System) is the chip that controls your system during boot up until it is "transferred" to the OS itself.
(That's a nutshell description, but should suffice here).

It is not the OS, but the SW "Guts" of your computer (Motherboard).

Whether or not to upgrade:

First, what does the update correct? They should list that info, or link to it.

In general, I'm the type to always update the BIOS if a new firmware is released, that said though, my mainboard has three separate BIOS's that I can switch to, so if one is borked by an update, or changes I make, I can go back to the original (I leave one on the original for that purpose).

If all is well on your system, you do not have to perform the update at all, and that may be the best advice I can give you, especially if you are questioning it to begin with, but if you are willing to do it, depending on what it may change for your system, it may be worthwhile.

I'll review it and post later, or others may chime in as they see fit.

UPDATE: I checked the Dell site for your system, but don't see an update for today, that's not to say anything malicious is going on, but can you give more details on the pop up?

What version it wants to update you to? Etc.
You could also boot into your BIOS and give us the version you are on, if you are several versions "behind" the most current one, it may also be beneficial to do it, again depending on what I outlined above.

I went to the Dell product page for my computer - Dell XPS 8500, and ran the scan to check for updates.  3 updates, one of them for BIOS.  I ran the updates and initiated the BIOS update.  Midway through it appeared to get hung up and my machine froze.  I left it for an hour, came back and still no luck.
So I rebooted the machine and of course now it won't boot up.  I have power and can hear the fan, but no lights on the box and no screen input.
Looking though the manual and on this forum, I've tried resetting the BIOS jumpers, and removing the CMOS battery.  When I rebooted I saw lights on the box this time but it shut down after 30 seconds, and now back to the same problem.
From what I read on this forum I'm SOL unless I buy a new motherboard.
Just thought I'd check if anyone had any other suggestions.  If not, where can I get  a new motherboard for this?  The product page for my model doesn't list it as an option...

Thanks for your help!
Jason

A:Failed BIOS update - Dell XPS 8500

When did your warranty expire? If it expired less than 6 months ago, you might be able to get Dell to fix it, assuming they can get the board. They had a policy to replace a board -one time only- if it failed a Dell BIOS update within 6 months after the end of warranty. I don't know if that policy still exists.
Those are all different revisions of the same motherboard. I don't know what the differences are. They could be as simple as a different supplier for one of the components on the board all the way up to a change in the circuit layout.
Maybe Dell Spare Parts can tell you about the differences among the 3, or at least tell you which is the most recent revision,  even if they don't have the boards available...?
All three support the H77 chipset which is a key issue.
Look at your motherboard for the sticker to see what version you have now. If you can't find out about specific differences, you may want to get one that's the same version, assuming it's one of the choices available.
You should look elsewhere if Impact doesn't have the revision you want and/or for price comparisons. And always ask if the board is new, used, refurbished and about the warranty.

Just got a new DELL battery for my DELL INSPRION 1525. It does not hold the charge longer than 15 minutes. Contacted the place where it was purchased and was told to configure the battery with the BIOS. Went to the DELL Drivers site for the BIOS....cannot get the download for the battery BIOS to take.

Any ideas on that...or why the battery is not performing as it should??

Thanks!!

Hi all, yesterday I tried to update my Dell XPS12 (9Q33 mid 2013) BIOS to the last version (A08). During the installation, the laptop remained stuck in "EC programming" at 50%..I waited two hours but nothing changed and my PC was unusable: completely blocked, no keyboard,no touch and even the windows clock was blocked.
So, as I read in a lot of BIOS-related threads, I removed the AC adaptor and let it discharge completely..some users resolved with this workaround, and their PC's worked well after.
Unfortunately, my XPS12 doesn't want to power up anymore..I also tried to put the .hdr file of the BIOS in a USB stick and tried to power up with "end" button pressed. It powers up and the fans are working, but nothing happens then..Am I using the wrong procedure to repair the BIOS?

Thanks in advance,

Fabio

A:Dell XPS12 messed up during BIOS update

Good day ,
To help me resolve this issue I would ask your assistance by performing these troubleshooting steps,
1)Remove all the peripheral components from the system .2)Disconnect the charger from the system ,battery from the system and perform the power drain test on the system .
3)Plug in the charger back and use F2 key to get into BIOS then use F9 key to reset the BIOS to default settings.
4)If you are unable to get to the BIOS page or if there are any concerns do reply to this post with the service tag of the system (sent via private message ) so that I can look into the specifications of the system to assist you better .
Awaiting your reply .
Have a great day ahead !

Hello guys, I'm new to this forum. And I hope I find a solution here.

It all started when I was updating drivers and came across updating the BIOS on my working Dell XPS 400. After Updating it, the BIOS was flashed. Once it rebooted a Post showing came up and at the bottom it said "BIOS updated successfully. AFTER that the computer made a total of 6 long beeeeeeeps with no display, monitor light is orange not green. So I shut down the computer and try to turn it on...it turns on for a half of a second and powers down...after 3 seconds it turns on...however no Display...no light on the keyboard or mouse..I just get those 6 long beeeeeeps one after the other.

I tried the following:
-removing battery for 30secs=Did not work
-removing battery for 30mins=Did not work
-Clearing the CMOS, moving the jumpers from 1/2 to 2/3=Did not work

I was read some similar problems and most say the Mobo could be dead. How could a simple BIOS update cause this. There has to be a solution. Anyhow I yet have to try removing the RAM, Vcard, any other attached hardware inside to see what happens. I cannot hit any keys on a keyboard that does not respond aswell..so that holding the insert key=Did not work

Good evening all,

Just to flag that this has also been posted in W7 Support sub-forum here:

Other thread

Re. the instruction thread - the link to DSS doesn't seem to work, and GMER is for 32-bit only. If there's anything I can do to kick things off, please let me know and I'll do it!

I've googled extensively around the issues I am facing, and tried all proposed solutions, but none have worked thus far.

Symptoms:I have 1-2 minutes of freedom after booting, then I can no longer run new programmes. I also cannot close some programmes e.g. Skype. Tabs in Chrome spazz, flash player dies, and any new navigation ends up with an eternal hanging/loading problem.
Unable to restart/shutdown conventionally (I have to do it physically)
I get the error "Failure to display security and shut down options ..." when I try ALT+CTRL+DEL

Safe mode is absolutely fine, so I assume it's not anything hardware related (though please correct me if I'm being naive). My second drive which runs off XP, which I only use for storage now, boots fine and has no problems.

I have not installed any new drivers, programmes, or otherwise made any meaningful changes recently.

Solutions I've tried:Reset winsock.
Shut off all start-up programmes using MSCONFIG.
Run virus scan at boot-up, deleted 2 items (win32 installmate ... prob trojans? Was an .exe that I had downloaded but never ran).
Run Malwarebytes scan, deleted 1 fairly innocuous item.
Run full scan-disk check.
Run a SFC scan... Read more

Our office bought several computers over the past few days and I've been given the responsibility of setting them up. I AM NOT A COMUTER TECHNICIAN!

Everything was going fine until I tried to update the BIOS on one of the machines.

I had updated the BIOs on other machines with no problems - this time the BIOS update has frozen at 13%.

Please let me know what I can do to safely power down the computer and reboot/retry updating the BIOS.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I have an old Dell E6410 Laptop, which i need to BIOS upgrade in orden to use my SSD disk.
I download, and I try to upgrade, which runs fine, but when it comes to the auto restart that should do the actual update, it will not auto restart...
I'll have to push the power button, and it starts with a not upgraded BIOS.
Does anyone know why auto restart is not working on the laptop?
I can't do a autorestart at all, i allways have to push the power button..

No -- 5G is more than enough free space for a BIOS flash.  Is the system failing to recognize the AC adapter (F2 at powerup to check)?
If it is, the BIOS won't flash - this is a hardware problem a BIOS update won't fix -- either the adapter, the DC jack or the mainboard is bad.

I just got a used M4600, and the currently installed bios is A08. When I try to update to A16, it restarts, says it's updating firmware, but fails at 0%. It gives no reason, and no error code as far as I can tell. Thanks in advance for any help you guys can provide.

A:Bios update failed - Dell Precision M4600

That is NOT the issue! There is nothing wrong with the M4600 motherboards per se.
Everybody has been trying to find why when trying a BIOS upgrade, the system immediately fails with a basic "BIOS Update Failed" and no specific error code or more explanation. The answer is in the PDF document below - that is the message displayed when BIOS authentication fails!
You just have to look up the Dell Signature Firmware 'feature' that was introduced into a number of laptop incl the M4600.  Download PDF doc. That was a feature introduced per NIST requirements.
In a nutshell, they changed the way BIOS authenticates a BIOS file before it will use it to update the BIOS & EC firmware. The M4600 is in the list of "Legacy Systems" where this was introduced. Basically, these systems did NOT have the Signature Firmware when produced.
Version A04 introduced this feature. After you install that, you will have an option to turn the Signature Firmware requirement On (default is Off). Once turned On, it can NOT be turned off!
The problem starts in BIOS ver A08. Something in the code is wrong. Because on some M4600s it updates the BIOS AND Activates the Signature Firmware requirement. After that, the system will NOT authenticate ANY other BIOS versions so you will NOT be able to upgrade past version 8!
I manage many, many systems for a company. I am currently sitting on 33 (yes, that many) M4600 with that exact same situation!

Solution fo recovery bios Dell N51101. Download the latest firmware from the Dell support2. Save the exe and create a shortcut with the following parameter: " /writehdrfile"3. Hello,
So as it says in the title i have a 4 years old Inspiron 7720, and for the larger portion of that period of time it worked like a charm.
However lately it started doing some quirky things.
About two weeks ago my GPU (GeForce GT 650M) just disappeared from my Device Manager. I tried updating my GPU drivers, updating Windows (10) but it didn't seem to change anything. So i did some digging and found this: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19498450
Apparently I'm not the only one who encounterd this problem and there is a solution.HOWEVER, whenever I try to flash my BIOS an error pops up which reads: "ERROR 105 - Command line error! Status = 105."
I searched and found more users that experienced this problem, but the only solution I managed to find was reinstalling the OS, which is quite a drastic measure.
Is there any other way to fix this error?Thank you

It appears your BIOS may need to be updated.  What is the current version you're using? You should update them in order without skipping to the highest first.  Here's some information that may be helpful.

I replaced the hard drive in my Dell Dimension E521, with a new 320GB (non Dell Specific) WD unit, and loaded Windows 7 Pro (again, non Dell specific version). The old hard drive was bad.

I downloaded the 1.1.11 BIOS update (http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/04/DriverDeta...) to a bootable USB flash drive. When I boot the computer off of the flash drive, it comes up with the C: thing and does nothing else.

Am I supposed to type something in there, to get it to update the BIOS or access the file on the flash drive?

I'm kind of new to this stuff, but learning...

I want to update the BIOS, to be able to install the AMD Athlon 64 X 2 6000+ processor. The current version is 1.1.6.

Thanks in advance for any advice...

Hi Dell fans,  just hoping for a bit of direction with this issue:
I have an inspiron 7535 laptop that has started powering off after about 30 minutes of use.  no warning, no graceful shutdown, just straight to power-off.  I've cleaned and serviced it, the normal dell heatsink paste was dry as a nuns hip flask, so that's been renewed and and it's cooling just fine, but i dont think that is the problem.  Mainly because you can turn it straight back on and continue working for another period of time without any need for a cool-down.

My gut instinct is saying BIOS issues.  It's currently at versions A05 31/Oct/2013 and the latest from the support is A13 Release date 15 Jun 2015 (Last Updated 02 Aug 2015) however i cannot get this to install.
If I install within windows (10 x64)  it runs the extractor and flashed up a command window too fast to read the error. and I cannot find any logs it might create.  the command line options dont do anything.  every version does the same thing back to A06.  I seem to see something about intel in the message but cannot really read it in full.
i've also tried booting off a freedos disk and trying all versions too.  this extracts okay and gives error 8743: unknown or unsupported platform, cannot locate hardware platform identification this program cannot be run on the current plaform BIOS version too old please use the latest BIOS to flash.
Any ideas? either on the random pow... Read more

Hello and Thanks in Advance.

I am experiencing BSOD crashes and a buggy driver could be the culprit. Dell recommends updating the BIOS prior to the drivers.

http://forums.techguy.org/windows-7/982135-learned-source-problem-bsod-but.html

I checked Dell's website and the current BIOS for my machine is A08 and my system at present is A05, so maybe this should be done anyway.

The BIOS update is just a .exe file.and its description is "Dell Computer Flash BIOS Upgrade."

I am afraid to run the BIOS update in "normal mode" because of these persistent crashes. Who knows what state my computer will be in if it crashes/freezes during a BIOS update.

My computer runs fine in "Safe Mode." Would it be OK to update my BIOS through Safe Mode so that I don't have to worry about my computer crashing in the middle of the update? Does the computer care if this is done through safe or normal mode? Should I log in as an administrator to do this also?

If anyone has any advice, I am all ears. Thanks!

Chris

When will Dell enable Intel Speed Shift via a BIOS update? All the BIOS update requires is requires is writing 1 to MSR 0x770!
Speed Shift was fully supported by Intel and Microsoft in 2015 (1 year ago!). It makes the CPU much more responsive (particularly in gaming and real-time tasks) and costs nothing.
In the meantime, anyone can run software manually to enable Speed Shift but you need to relaunch the software every time your computer sleeps or turns off, so that is inconvenient. But the boost in performance is worth the effort.
I have manually enabled SpeedShift via software such as ThrottleStop or just writing 1 to MSR 0x770.

I recently experienced a permanent battery failure on my Dell Inspiron 5548 laptop, and it can now only work while plugged in. The advice I found after perusing online would be to update BIOS. I've gone to Dell Support, had the site detect my Service TAG, and downloaded the manual BIOS update file(s). However, when I try to click on the new program, it brings me to this thing called "Insyde", which A.) asks for an ID and version and B.) won't work at all anyways since it says my battery needs to be at at least 10% for BIOS to be flashed. Now, I can't charge my computer at all since the battery is fried, since I'm basically running on electricity.
Not only am I unsure if a BIOS update will even fix my battery failure issue, but I can't even test it.

Resolution: Dell Inspiron 5459/5559/5759 BIOS Update - Will not boot after update
"No boot drive found", "PXE... Media test failure"
If you updated from 1.0.x to 1.1.5 (or other) and find yourself scratching your head in a panic that your system won't boot up, reboot and press and hold the F2 key when you see the Dell logo (shortly after restart). When the bios settings page opens, click restore settings to default, save, and then exit. Your system should boot to windows now :-)
If you don't care about default Keyboard LED brightness or Fn Lock key default status, disregard the following:
After your system restarts into windows, restart and repeat to enter bios. There are some minor settings that change -- They are minor and don't affect performance.  Under System Configuration, Keyboard brightness changes from dim to bright. Under Post Boot, Fn lock key changes to unlocked.
Have a nice day. Hopefully if you're reading this you already figured that out on your own.

Hello to the BleepingComputer community,First of all I'm sorry I haven't finished some of the steps from the Preparation Guide. It's because these steps require a reboot (e.g. Step 6: Disable your CD Emulation Software - DeFogger will ask me to reboot the machine), and I have a bad feeling about the question if it is safe to reboot in my situation: I'm not sure if I have a type of malware which is ready to infect the BIOS - if it is so, then it could infect it much easier during the reboot process.- If there is a good way to find out what is the problem (and fix the BIOS threat part if it really is present) without rebooting / shutting down this PC, or at least without booting from this hard drive (which I feel is probably infected), then please tell me what should I do.- If you know a place / forum where I can get a specialized help for this (seemingly BIOS-malware related) situation, please tell me where I could go.- If there is no way to move forward, I'll go ahead and risk the reboot, and follow the other steps (steps 6 to 10) in the Preparation Guide, no problem.I kindly ask you to please read below the details of the problem as it occured to me, and the things I have tried so far.The PC is AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core BE-2350 2.1GHz, Motherboard Biostar TA690G AM2 (with AWARD BIOS), 4GB RAM, 200GB SATA HDD, and an ASUS EAH4870 card added a few years ago. It's with WinXP SP3, AVG Free 2012, (standard) Windows Firewall, and it's behind a router.I ... Good Evening All,

I having a problem with my Dell Latitude D610.

I went to update the BIOS and it said that the battery is not installed despite the laptop running solely off of battery power!

I have ran the dell device diagnostic and device manager and no issue appears to be with the battery. When you check the battery info in the BIOS settings it says the batteries are not installed and also when you log into XP it constantly says running off of AC power even when its not plugged in!

Any one got any ideas what could be causing this and how it can be solved?

Thanks Nick

A:Dell Latitude "battery not installed" preventing BIOS update

It may be referring to the CMOS battery which is wired to the computer beneath the keyboard. The battery can be replaced for $8.95 to $29.95 depending on where you purchase...

But regardless, you do have a problem that must be resolved. The D610 has been one strange little irrelevant problem after another... but you cannot afford to irritate it and have that mysterious unremovable password appear as it has on so many D610 and D620 Dells.

I have no idea what happened, my laptop asked me to restart my computer for updates then it was saying configuration which it normally does. Then I have no idea why it went to bios updates and so I thought I better not touch it. It switched off by itself and all I get is a black screen and a blinking caps lock. Please can anyone help me to fix this! I tried pressing Windows and B but no answer.

My Samsung series 3 laptop has been sending out popup messages telling me I need a bios update, I go to the Samsung software update site and this bios update has been failing, I have made several calls and chats to techs at Samsung who tell me to do what I have already done, they tell to ask for tier 2 tech, who can go in my computer and fix it , When I finally got a tier 2 tech, they told me the same thing, I told him what I had been told about him and what he could do, He said, is it working , I said yes, but settings on computer change on their own, like wifi turns itself on and that concerns me. Anyway, He said that it didn't need a bios update, even the Samsung website said this computer needed a bios update. I posted this on hardware, firmware concerns, and they told me to post here, I was going to go to a site ,that had a download that checked drivers, I was told to stay away from this.

Thanks,
Jim

My e6330 HDD failed last week. The "Winnt_root>\system32\Hal.dll missing or corrupt: Please re-install a copy of the above file." error is being returned when I attempt to boot. I followed all repair options but none work. I don't have a windows 7 disk and the installation key is completely worn off the label on the underside of the laptop, so that option isn't available to me. This system is still under warranty until next February. What can I do to fix this issue? This is a work laptop and I need to get it back up and running asap. I can supply the service tag if needed.

A:Latitude e6330 HDD Failure

Contact Dell - they will generally send a set of recovery media free of charge under warranty.

ok I updated my bios from a 09 to a11. It appeared to install fine but when my computer restarted the lights all blinked and everything sounds like it's spinning up but no splash screen or anything ever displays. I have come red an external display and the same thing, no splash screen or anything. Yes the monitor works I have connected a laptop to it and it displays that fine. I'm thinking something went wrong with the bios update. Any ideas. Can I force a flash somehow.

While updating the Bios on Soyo 6ibm motherboard I got a Write Fail from the awdflash utility. It seems to write in 4 blocks and the whole third block always reports Write Fail.

So now I’ve lost the bios and get a Bios Check Sum error on bootup, then I’m dropped to the bios BootBlock which gives no other function than to boot from a floppy. I can successfully flash the bios again but every time I get the Write Fail on the same block. When trying to restore the old bios it either stalls or gives a couple of different errors from awdflash. “Unknown Flash Type” or “System was not new Award Bios version, please update ROM Bios first”

Been round the net till I’m dizzy. Anyone help me?

Hi All,
My laptop is Dell Latitude E6330, with latest BIOS ver A17
The existing BIOS is legacy, and the Windows 10 in the laptop is MBR type.
I cloned it using Transcend SSD Scope but it is not bootable. (Checked in the SSD Scope, its firmware is latest)
I have tried using Windows 10 dvd to boot and direct install into the SSD. Both BIOS/MBR and UEFI/GPT unable to proceed the Windows 10 installation.
Does this Transcend SSD370S compatible to Dell Latitude E6330 ?

Please help. Thanks.

I have two Windows 7 64 bit systems that worked perfectly until approx two weeks ago. They started becoming unresponsive to various websites, such as b1015.com (unable to listen live). Both computers then started having problems opening sites through google searches.

Following this, most updates on both computers fail. Downloads from the internet fail. Updating flash on one - failed. downloading .net framework update - failed.

One computer has MSE - updated and ran scan - no threats found
One computer has AVast - updated and ran scan - no threats found

Tried to download malwarebytes on the computer with avast - failed
went to XP station - downloaded to thumb drive and installed from thumb drive and ran  - no threats found

from cmd prompt -  ran sfc /scannow on both computers  -  no problems found

Can anyone give me any ideas of where to go from here to get both of these computers working properly again

The first place to start is are you getting any error messages when the updates fail? What do the messages state -- for example, do you get any error codes? Please post that information here.

Hi, All I try to upgrade the BIOS of my x1c gen3 20BS, using a bootable USB disk.I download the 1.3 BIOS bootable CD,  n14ur12w.iso  from http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds101953. and burn it to the USB disk with these cmd: geteltorito -o bios.img n14ur12w.iso
dd if=bios.img of=/dev/sdb Then I boot with is usb disk and follow the BIOS update instruction to upgrade BIOS.But I think I fail with a last step. The x1c reboot with ThinkPad Logo and stop booting.I have to remove the AC adapter and push the hard reset button to power off the x1c. And then I power on x1c again, I found that the ECP ID is upgrade to 1.09, but UEFI BIOS ID is still 1.10(not 1.13) Could you help me check which step I miss?Or any other suggest for BIOS upgrade with my x1c? Thanks.

Before I went to bed last night, I ran MS disk Defrag on my computer. I woke up and Disk Defragger Crashed, I don't even know where it crashed in the process. I could not close it out.

After Failing to close it out, I rebooted the computer, and it hung on the Page that says press Del to enter bios, press F11 to enter boot options.

Not once or twice but every time i tried to reboot it. When the computer starts up, the Geforce 6800 Screen pops up, ok good there, somewhere in there i get 1 beep. then the processor and bios info is displayed, and then nothing.

I cant even get in the bios.

The Diagnostic lights says the computer is on "Bios Sign on" - the book says this is where the computer will start showing information about logo, processor band name, etc....

The next step in the boot would be "testing base and Extended Memory"

Ok Since this all happened before i had to go to work. I Didn't have time to check wire connections, or do multiple boots with different memory combinations.

So after I do all of this when I get home. If it doesn't work, My next step will be to clear the bios. There is a button on the board to do this. But I have a feeling I will also be resetting my Raid setup and that will (not sure) force me to reinstall windows and the like.

To clear the CMOS you need to remove the battery ( looks like an oversized watch battery ), but before you do, try unplugging the hard drive(s) both power and ribbon cables, sounds like yours went south...

You may have to let it set before it times out on looking for the drives...

I have a Toshiba Satelite PRO 4300 that will not boot up. It displays a screen that has a graphical moon and sun seperated by a bar graph type box. There is no indication of a bios screen on power up. The LEDs initialize as expected. It will not even recognize a floppy disk after the drive does a seek at power up.

Anyone have any ideas?

Motherboard - MSI P67a-gd55

I have a report from one of my customers, asking for advice regarding a bios flash they recently attempted to do on this motherboard. They explain the following steps to me.

1. downloaded bios from the MSI website
2. put onto a USB drive
3. flashed the BIOS via the menu in the BIOS
4. PC rebooted and continued to install some things
5. pc now after reboot only nothing on screen dvd drive makes a sound then reboots and keeps doing this.

Not really sure what to advise him at the moment apart from trying

1. resetting cmos
2. reseating ram
3. taking the battery out for 10mins then putting back in.
4. a MINIMUM CONFIG (i.e. CPU/RAM/PSU/MOBO) with everything else disconnected.

MSI I believe use M-Flash but not sure if you can emergency re-flash the BIOS with this particular motherboard until I read up some information on the particular motherboard model.

does anyone offer any advice regarding this problem or had a similar issue them self?

I will in the meantime contact MSI support.

A:Solved: BIOS Flash Fail

Yeah, check the manual at the MSI website support section first
to see if there is a bios failsafe or dual bios first.
It may be that you can restore the bios from a flash drive.
I had the same problem with an older board without any bios protection.
I went to ebay and bought a flashed bios chip for about $10.
Of course the bios chip would need to be removable from the motherboard
in order for that to work.
If it is soldered to the motherboard, that is not really helpful.

Well, i got windows 7 Pro x86 installed on my dell vostro 3700.
Lately, i want to restore it to its factory settings..
On the support site of Dell, they said i should boot with F8, select "restore system" and then keyboard settings etc. and that the recovery image (Dell factory image) should replace all files currently on the HDD.
The problem starts with the booting..
I can get into the andvanced boot with F8.. but clicking enter on "system restore" just makes windows 7 boot as normal..
And, when trying to start up Dell backup & restore program (standard) it says that winRE isnt installed, so it cant work..
I do have a hidden partition "recovery".. it's about 14GB it think..
how can i still restore it?

A:Dell PC restore fail..

With Dell I think it is actually something like F11. Give a few of the higher fkeys a chance. Try f10 to 12.

Greetings.I was trying to fix my wireless adapter issue by updating the Bios using the .exe file in the Winflash folder. Suddenly the screen turned black while the update was running. After leaving it for over an hour I decided to force it off by pressing the power button. After that when I tried turning it back on the computer seems it won't boot anymore, just black screen, but the power button is lit. Later I found threads recommending CRISIS Recovery Disk Tool but mine doesn't seems to work. Wincris just formats my USB drive and left it blank. Any idea how I can recover back my computer? Thanks in advanced!

This morning I wake up and power on the computer to get a suprise greeting that my Western Digital 120G had S.M.A.R.T error. I went into the CMOS, and instead of detecting it as WD1200, it shows WD1000. (Did not make any changes on my computer before I turn it off)

Going to Windows XP, from disk manager, it shows the drive is not format and the capacity is 6G.

Any suggestion on what to do??

alright, so i had an issue with deleting a steam folder that was corrupted. after googling a while i learned i should run chkdsk (checkdisk) when you rightclick on your hdd 'properties, under tools tab' etc.

so after that i just rebooted my pc and everything was normal, i could delete the folder. then i got a few windows updates, which i just ran. and rebooted normally. after a while, surfing a bit, then playing a videogame, my computer just crashed with bluescreen.

ever since then i couldnt boot up my pc normally again.
i do manage to get the BIOS screen, then the windows logo 'loading', but then it just gets me a blue screen again.

so the errors on the blue screen im getting is:

it might be worth mentioning i had intel rapid storage techonlogy, which uses an ssd for caching. i thought this was the problem, and removed the ssd but no results.

Hi all,

About 9 months ago, I built my PC with the specs listed under my user info. It was difficult to get it running initially (Mwave had to replace the motherboard and memory), but has worked fine ever since...

That is, until the other day. I was using my PC in Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit when it suddenly crashed. The screen didn't just lock up... The USB mouse lost power and the video card stopped (the monitor said "No Signal"). I rebooted and found that my BIOS had lost all my settings. I pressed F1 to reset them, but while I was in the BIOS setup, it froze again. This, and all subsequent times, the video locked up, but continued to send video signal to the monitor.

Since then, I have only been able to make it to the Windows startup screen, where it tells you your system wasn't properly shut down. I told it to start normally because I don't think this is an OS problem, but it just ended up rebooting the machine. The second time, Windows reccomended some sort of diagnostic, but again, it froze just then. Now I can't even make it past POST most of the time before it freezes on me.

I've been working on PCs since '95 or so and I've tried everything I know. I even loaded the latest BIOS version (1003 or 1004) and I get the exact same problems.

I've never had a system lock up in BIOS setup before (unless I was over-clocking and I'm not). All I can figure is that either the ASUS P6T Deluxe V2 motherboard or my PSU is bad. But maybe it can be fixed... ... Read more
