Q: Computer can not reach Windows 7 home page after going throu...

Computer turned off in the middle of windows update. Now computer can?t get to homepage. Tried all F1-F11 options and received BSOD (Error code: 0x000000F4). Went to windows tech support and all of their tests point that it?s an HP issue. If problem persists, BSOD indicated to disable/remove any newly installed hardware/software and to disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. Ran all available HP tests (Memory, hard disk, run-in, start-up, and battery). All passed except for battery (failure ID: 9C0c13-00089U-Xd6V5G-C0F603) and run-in (failure ID: 9C0C13-00089T-XD6V5G-C0CN03) tests and both failure id description for these two said, ?Primary battery.? Computer was working just fine before this issue. Please help.

Hi,
1. I cannot find a solution for a problem accessing Microsoft forums websites from Windows 10 - IE11 and Edge browsers:
in EDGE - Hmm, we can't reach this page.   IE11 this page can't be displayed.
For about a year it worked at least from Edge. Now both cannot access Microsoft forums. All the other sites are accessible.
I am using a corporate proxy. The same sites are accessible from Windows 7 with IE11.
First I blamed our IE GPO with multiple settings. So for a test I placed my machine in Blocked OU (no IE GPO, proxy is set from different GPO).
Everything what I tried didn't help. The question: why just Microsoft forums (no other sites) are not accessible.
Did couple of tests from Windows 7 IE11 machines. The same Microsoft forums are perfectly accessible (all GPOs are applied).
Suddenly, found that one corporate Web App does the same : "This  page can't be displayed". On other Windows 7 it does work.
I am out of ideas now... cannot blame anymore our GPO or proxy...
Any advice?
Thanks

I have had Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit) installed on my Gateway NV53 laptop. I must note that my laptop dual boots Windows and Ubuntu 10.04 with GRUB 2 as my default bootloader (which employs a chainloader to boot Windows 7). 4 weeks ago, I began experiencing problems with my Windows partition. Everytime I booted up, the bootloader would show the Windows 7 logo, and then the computer would restart without ever reaching the login screen.

At first, I thought the issue was with the Windows 7 bootloader. So, I used the Windows 7 Repair Disk (for 64 bit machines) and from the command line, rebuilt the BCD from scratch. I even made Windows 7 the default bootloader (instead of GRUB, because I suspected maybe GRUB was being buggy), and still I experienced the same problems. I concluded that the problem could not be the bootloader seeing that I rebuilt a new one from scratch and the problem persisted. I then proceeded to remove the most recent hotfix (I had read somewhere that lately users have been experiencing issues with hotfixes offered by Microsoft) using the Windows 7 Emergency Recovery Disk (ERD), and that did not fix the problem either. I also scanned my partition for viruses and none were found.

I should also note that I have tried booting with Safe mode, Safe mode with networking, and Safe mode with command prompt, and all of these options result in the same boot issue. Furthermore, I have performed Startup repair and that does not work either.

I suspect that maybe I a... Read more

This is the primary reason why I'm glad dual-booting is dead/dying/etc. My suggestion would be to pick an OS to run native, and virtualize the other.

Anyway, to fix your problem..if you insist on dual-booting, it sounds like might just be better off doing a clean install of the Windows partition.

Eversince the summer.. my computer has been freezing ever so often. Before it freezes, you can hear a distinctive sound like a PLUCK sound. Then after a few seconds, it freezes.

Two nights ago, my computer turned off by itself, so when I restarted it, I get a page which basically says that my computer has a problem turning on and for me to either choose

Safe Mode
Safe Mode with something something
Safe Mode with another something something.

Last Know Configuaration that worked

Start Normally
I have gone through all of them and non of them successfully started.

After I selected Safe Mode (all three of the options did this) a list of files were listed.. and it would go on to a blank screen and then I would hear the PLUCK sound and it would restart to the page above.

The rest of the selections would get to the Windows XP home page and then restart itself.. so it basically won't start.
Did my computer crash..?
I don't have the system disk.. because that got lost when I moved. Is there any other way of fixing this problem?
Thanks In advance.

Hello
This post is in regards to a website that I'm attempting to access. Within the email there is a highlighted link "Store" where I access a link to purchase my photos.. Clicking on this link Message reads Cannot reach this page, Refresh or Search. Clicking on Refresh nothing happens, click on Search brings up all the connecting websites but each one I try to open they all show the same. Cannot reach this page. This website is the only one that shows that. All others such as My Bank , Kaiser etc all open without incident. I do not understand this .I tried everything I even sent an email to this company about this issue The email could not be sent either , Up until today I have had no problems with this company/website. What happened, and Why? I have Windows 10 Microsoft Edge

A:Cannot Reach this page

1) Right click the link, click on Copy Link, and paste it in the address bar. Does it look like a valid website link?
2) If so, search for, and open, on your computer
iexplore.exe
and paste that link there and try it, does it work?

1. I can access http://www.qmiles.com. On this page you need to enter member number and pin code.
2. Enter any member No and pin code and login
3. Box indicates 'you are about to view pages over a secure connection'. Click OK
4. Requested page does not display. Status bar first indicates 'Opening page https://secure.qmiles.com/FrontPage.jsp', then changes to 'Connecting to 213.130.112.202', and finally 'Done', and displays a page saying 'Page cannot be displayed'

I use windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2 and Tiscali broadband. This same problem exists at 4 Tiscali broadband site I have checked in this area, but works OK at an AOL site, and also at 1 Tiscali broadband site a few miles away.
Can you suggest what I should do to be able to view the login page?
This is not a security or firewall problem, as the problem is present even when antivirus and firewall are turned off. As the site is accessible from another site, it does not appear to be a security problem. I can access the secure bank sites.

A:cannot reach a particular web page

I can get to first link but second IP comes as unavailable. Perhaps the page is generated uniquely based on input you provide when logged in and cookies you have on your machine. If you have a bad cookie or temp internet file the page cannot be generated. Try emptying temp internet files and deleting cookies.

I've set Google as my search provider in Edge. If I open a new tab and type where it says: Search or enter web address, I get:

Hmm, we can?t reach this page.

Try this
?Make sure you?ve got the right URL: http://windows%207%20iso%20download
?Refresh the page
?Search for what you want

If I click on the last option, a search opens in Bing.

This is driving me crazy!

A:Edge: Hmm, we canít reach this page?

Does Google look ok as the default search provider in advanced options?

I just tried

Went to Google home page
brought up settings\advanced
clicked the drop down for search box and selected add new
it showed me google was available and I clicked add as default

are these the same steps you took?

I have had this issue so much more often the past week with Edge than my entire time using Windows 10. Is anyone else seeing a increase in this? I cant tell if its a wifi problem (all my other devices using wifi are fine) or a problem caused by a recent update or what, but its so aggravating.

Any tricks or suggestions before I just ditch the Edge browser and rely only on Chrome?

A:Hmmm...cant reach this page

Well after installing Chrome I am also having internet problems. So it's not the Edge browser. Must be a driver. Can someone point me in the right direction to see if my drivers are up to date?

Only happening with this one particular website, and NOT having this problem with any others; just this single one:

Hmm, we can't reach this page.
Try this
Make sure you’ve got the right web address:https://www.hidingthewebsitenameintentionally.com
Refresh the page

That is when using Edge.  Similar type of messages happen when trying to get to the same page in Chrome and in Internet Explorer.  I changed the website name, giving a fake one instead of the real one.

My guess is that something is wrong at the website's end and not at my end since I can reach all other sites; just not one particular one.  Any good way to check on this?  Any other way of testing the vaidness or health of the website?

-  Just went to a different computer and tried the website again.  Same message, that site can not be reached, refused to connect.  The website must have the problem.

We have 2 wired pc, and a laptop. The PCs are Acer3100+, 1.8ghz, 1G ram, connected via ethernet to a wildblue modem. I have just installed a Belkin wireless router, model F5D 6231-4, that I bought on ebay. Both pcs will go online, a little slower than before, but my big concern is that when I run a cmd, ipconfig/all, my IP address dosen't match what they say. Belkin says it should be 192.168.1, and I get 70.41.xx.xxx, in this range. They said to configure router, but when I enter that page address, I get the notice of a network error. I don't know enough about this to know if this is a security issue or not! If I manually enter the numbers that Belkin should be , I get the correct address in an ipconfig, but I cannot get to the page, or get online. What have I done wrong!!!!

A:Can't reach Belkin configuration page..is this a problem???

the Belkin default address is 192.168.2.1

you're apparently wired like
modem---(wan)belkin-router(LAN)---yourPCs

the WAN side address will be set by your ISP, not belkin and might well be
70.41.xx.xxx, but none of your PCs will see this using IPCONFIG /ALL --
they will see the LAN side addresses. IPCONFIG will show the DHCP address
given to that specific machine. the LAN side address of the belkin should be
the default above, and thus your PC addresses will default to something like
192.168.2.x.

use one PC to access the router config using your browser http://192.168.2.1/
IF NECESSARY, you can change the default router address and the range of IP
addresses that will be assigned to your PCs.

you should absolutely change the admin password

A few weeks ago I started noticing that when I was clicking forward...let's say from a Google search, I would hear clicking going on behind the scenes without touching the mouse. It's been getting progressivley worse to the point where my computer will now just automatically bring me back to the home page and won't stay on any pages that I try to forward into for more than a second or two. Even when I'm in Outlook...it will jump from Inbox...to Outbox...to Junk E-Mail on it's own. At the same time this all started to happen, it seems like there is something running too long in the background...as I can't switch from one program to another without pressing CTL, ALT, DEL to unjam everything. I ran defrag, Adaware, and antivirus scans...but nothing helped.
Can anyone make any suggestions? Thanks...

Hello,

For some time now I have been having problems with my computer, with my AV detecting trojans and despite thinking a couple of times I have solved the problem, it keeps coming back and getting worse.

I have Windows XP and am running AVG7.0 and have used AdAware SE and HijackThis 1.99.1 and also have spyware guard and spyware protector.

The main problem I think is spoolsrv32.exe files in my system 32 folder and a file called cmdtel.exe which has found its way into my services!

I have also had my web browser and search page etc changed and can't fix this!

Hello. I have been working on this problem in my spare time for two weeks and pretty much full-time for the last week and can not clear it out of my computer. I appreciate the fact that you volunteer your time and efforts to help people like me who are totally frustrated! Here is some of the steps I've taken:Scanned with Kaspersky Online Tool and got rid of some trojans. Tried to run Super Anti-Spyware twice and it crashed my computer both times.Ran Kaspersky again and it came up clear. Ran ridkill and then an updated version of MalwareBytes and Spybot; possibly a couple of ad cookies were found. Ran Kaspersky again and it was a 26 HOUR scan and it found 30 vulnaribilities but no actual infection. Please note that my computer has gone from not booting at all, to booting to last known good congfiguration, to booting to safe mode and even sometimes to a regular boot. The most annoying problem - besides how slow it is - is when it is not used for an amount of time the screen (which is black) freezes and the computer must be turned off and back on. As a rule, I leave it on 24/7 and just move the mouse to bring up the screen. I lost my GMER log that way and as it way the 3rd time I'd tried it, I surrendered!I can tell you the way the computer boots in addition to really slowly: at the black screen, just when you think it won't boot, the cursor comes up. The rest of the boot is rather normal but extremely slow; a program named Soluto comes up to monitor what is i... Read more

My mother's computer is running slow and I think it is because I went to some naughty sites in the past. I ran malwarebytes and it is a little better but wondering if it is still on her computer. It seems like the programs open slower than before. Also, Whatever it was it changed my homepage to searchnu.com/406. I ran the HJT, DDS and GMER and pasted them below. Thank you in advance for any help you give.

Lately my computer have been running weird. My homepages were hijacked plus my sound was completely disabled even though my device manager listed my card and said its working properly. Even system sounds wouldn't play. I fixed the sound plus the homepages using HTL and Spybot. I still would like someone to check my HTL though cause some there are some entries which I'm suspicious of but really don't know nor can I find them on the net.:

Computer takes several minutes to boot.  Once booted, no desktop icons appear.  The Start button or nothing in the start toolbar will initiate any action.  Avira starts scanning and is hard to make it stop.  Computer has to be turned off with On/Off switch.  Can boot in Safe Mode and perform all functions.  Ran MalWarebytes and nothing was detected.  Also scanned with Avira and nothing detected.  Noticed that I couldn't Update Avira due to "access denied".  Computer is basically useless since I can't access any programs.  I also noticed that a got a Touchpad object helper error (see screen shot at end of post) and that my Home Page was set to mywebsearch (see screen shot at end of post).  Below is the DDS.txt log nformation.  The Attach.txt file is also attached.  Thanks in advance!

I was trying to fix an BT issue & I started updating drivers through win 10 device manager. When I restarted it wouldn't boot so I shut down, removed the CMOS battery & rebooted, got in, discovered that a Lenovo driver had been installed instead of Acer so I deleted it in device manager.  Upon reboot I get a flashing start botton, HDD light flashes, CPU fan spins, but no POST, no sound, no monitor (monitor power light appears as if asleep). I've tried removing the battery again but nothing works.  (BTW, I did drop the battery on the edge of the MB this time by accident, they could be better located but I don't think that this is the cause, but may be.) I believe the flashing power led indicates it is asleep but rebooting should take that out as a possibility.  If I could determine what that means maybe I could try something else.  Everything was working except intermittant BT issues. Any ideas?  Please help!

I have wild blue for my internet provider and I have limited bandwidth. I got a new PC with Windows 8.1 and my bandwidth usage has more than doubled. My question is do the apps on the home page use data even when I am not on the internet myself? Any other things that may be causing this?

Thanks for your help!

Hello tking66, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Live tiles for apps could use the internet. You can use the method in the tutorial below to turn off live tiles for apps.

Apps - Turn Live Tiles On or Off in Windows 8

In addition, you could open Resource Monitor, and click on the Network tab to help see what is currently using your bandwidth.

I made LAN of my PC and laptop using 1 additional Network adapter in my PC and connecting them both with CAT5 Cross-over cable. I manually stated IP's in Network TCP/IP connection configuration, respectively 192.168.0.1 for my PC and 192.168.0.2 for my laptop.
Problem begins here - i can ping from PC to laptop and receive response, connect to it and see shared folders/printers. But when i try to ping from laptop to PC, all i get is - Request timed out. Any other connections is impossible from laptop to PC impossible also. Although in Connection Status window, i can see how my PC receive pinging's packets. Both computers firewalls are off.

P.S. - cant explain this but - when i change ends of cable between computers, my laptops "ping -t" for PC, gets responded 4 times and continues getting timing out after.

I applaud your trouble shooting. Most people never think of switching the cable like that.

The result makes the cable a top suspect.

I have a pavilion dv7 with Vista Home Premium x64 OS that is the factory installed OS. Please analyze the information

A:Burned throu 2 hard drives in 2 years

Why do you say you've burned through 2 hard drives in 2 years?
I only see 2 memory dumps in this upload.

You only have 230 updates after SP2 - most systems have 350 or more. Please check Windows Update for any available updates.

You have a wireless USB device. I've started to see problems with these devices in Vista (they are known to cause BSOD's in Win7) - so I'd suggest:
- downloading a fresh copy of the latest drivers for it.
- uninstalling the current drivers
- installing the freshly downloaded drivers

Your iPhone has problems with this system. Please uninstall the iPhone software and remove the device from your system. If you're using iTunes, uninstall that also. Then reinstall a fresh copy of iTunes to see if that fixes the problem with the iPhone. (It's in the MSINFO32 file under Components...Problem Devices)

Lot's of Norton stuff in the memory dump driver listing. Just in case, please do this:

Anti-Virus Removal:
Please do the following:
- download a free antivirus for testing purposes: Free AntiVirus
- uninstall the Norton from your system (you can reinstall it, if so desired, when we're done troubleshooting)
- remove any remnants of Norton using this free tool: http://us.norton.com/support/kb/web_...080710133834EN
- IMMEDIATELY install and update the free antivirus, then check to ensure that the Windows Firewall is turned on.
- check to see if this fixes the BSOD's

I thought maybe you were busyso I went down there and it was the same thing no homw page and it had that little square in it. I couldn't get it to work so I did a system restore to yesterday when it worked and that brought back the home page again. So I used that little program that put something in the reg to lock your home page so I lock it and it was in there and it looks like the whole address is greyed out in the Internet options home page but that is because it is now locked in. However I don't know if it will stay locked . I am sorry, right before I did the lock I tried to reset the web settings and it wouldn't let me so thats when I did the restore and the home page lock. So I don't no if it will do it again. Iwent into safe mode and am doing a complete virus scan and she is going to call me when it is done. It is wierd because you also cannot get into safe mode using the f8 key it comes up and says keyboard locked or keyboard fail one of the two but you can get into safemode by start>run>msconfig>boot ini> and checking safemode and restarting. It started first acting funniy after running the cleanup program. when I talked to you awhile back about all those temp files that would not delete when I went to %temp% and there were thousands of them remember and then they would not delete out of the recycle bin, so then I ran the cleanup program and got them deleted. That is when it all started doing it and I no her computer was clear of spyw... Read more

A:Windows xp SP1---Home page problem

I think I found the problem, I installed and ran Microsoft antispyware and it caught IBIS Toolbar Adware, says it can redirect etc and I am hoping that is what was causeing the homepage problem. It has not changed since I locked the home page. I caught that with a quick scan with the antispyware so am running a full scan now. I was wondering if I have to turn off system restore if it would be in backup files there and have to run it again with system restore turned off. Does anyone no?? just wondering, guess I am just kind of like talking out loud, just trying to get this solved, if anyone decides to help that would be great, if not I will keep trying, although now reset web settings worked so I think I have it. If nothing else is found with this Microsoft Antispyware I think I will feel it is solved.

In the desktop version of IE, go to Tools -> Internet Options, and set your homepage to whatever you want. Save it, and go to Metro IE making sure to kill it's process then launch it. Metro IE sets it's homepage to whatever desktop IE's homepage is.

I am running Windows XP Home Edition. I noticed a few weeks ago that my computer had slowed down to a crawl when loading new websites, accessing email. I installed SpeedUpMyPC and noticed a remarkable improvement immediately. I noticed that my home page The Free Dictionary was an especially large file when SpeedUpMyPC was cleaning up files. I am now having difficulty removing The Free Dictionary as my wife's home page (subaccount). I have tried changing the home page in Tools but TFD always returns. I have also tried using the Control Panel with the same results. I suspect that the Free Dictionary home page may have had something to do with my computer slowing down and now I want to remove it completely for fear that the problem will return. A:Trouble Changing Home Page In Windows Xp

Hi ajasso59,Our apologies for the delay. I'm a little unclear on what exactly is the problem you describe. Different people have different terms they use, so I'm wondoering what you mean by Home page? Most people mean by that the page one goes to when opening their browser, commonly Internet Explorer. But that is usually a website, not a file, and is a setting in the registry that HijackThis should see and be able to fix. But I don't see it in your log. That may be because you made the log using your own account. In order for HijackThis or any other enumerating tool to be able to help with these type entries, one must be logged in to the affected account. It may be that you are referring to your wife's desktop background/wallpaper, but that would be dependent on who is logged in as well. Please do the following while logged on to the affected account--unless your wife does not have an administrator's account, in which case run it on an account with admin privileges and we will do your wife's later:If you still need help, please post a new log so I can see if anything has changed. If you have not done so already, please do the initial cleanup steps in the following instructions before posting your new log: Preparation Guide For Use Before Posting A Hijackthis LogA new version of HijackThis has now been released, so before you repost your log please download and install the new version. Since I installed a new printer, my computer (Windows XP Home, SP2), while booting, displays a welcome page on which I have to click on my name (I don't have to type in a password since I don't have one) in order to access Windows. I find it a nuisance and would like to deactivate it so that the computer boots and loads Windows without me having to click first. How do I do so? Also, I am afraid of getting locked out of my computer if I fumble around with the user account settings. I am the only user of the computer.

On booting up, my Windows XP Home does not load past the "Welcome" page. In other words, it only boots up to my user account icons. When I press any of my user account icons, it then loads the usual "Welcome" page with your personal user icon and doesn't load any further, just sitting on that page. If I do a Control/Alt/Delete, next to the account user icon it says, "loading your personal settings", but nothing loads, it just stays on that "Welcome" page.

This is a problem because I can't get into any of my files/tools/etc to do anything about it. In other words, I appear to be locked out.

I am thinking it may be a virus/worm/etc because my McAfee Security anti-virus is way out of date, but I regularly clean up with Adaware and other windows devices. My 60G hard drive has about 14% free space. I take it I can't even reformat or save any files that I need?
I pressed F8, got the black screen, scrolled up to "Safe Mode" pressed enter.

A list of files started loading up......it then goes to the coloured Windows user account screen. I choose "Administrator" icon... it goes to a black screen with "safe mode" written in all four screen corners with one line at top reading: "Microsoft (R) Windows XP (R) (Build 2600.xpsp-sp2..........Service Pack 2)
but nothing further comes up.

Hi all,
I am running Windows 7 Ultimate and IE11 and just recently I noticed a heap of gobbledegook after the Google Home page address.
https://www.google.com.au/?gfe_rd=cr&ei=nFSvVNHeOdDu8wfd4YLwBw&gws_rd=ssl
When you check the IE Tools General homepage it shows:
http://www.google.com.au/
and when you check the default tab you get:
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/p/?LinkId=255141
my question is: are my IE11 settings normal for Google as my home page and what are all the symbols and letters doing after google.com.au/ and go.microsoft.com/?
I know they are some form of codes or extensions but have no knowledge of how they got there - they just appeared by default.
Your advice would be appreciated, thanks.

Hello everyone.
I am currently experiencing an error everytime I use my Microsoft Edge. Whenever I try to go to a site, I always end up with this error. The weird thing is, this issue only happens on certain websites (such as Facebook and Yahoo currently) and sometimes with Google. It likes to disconnect me often and I really don't want to have to deal with this issue anymore.

My internet works fine as my laptop (which I'm currently on) and phone can connect to it without issue. I don't know why it doesn't work on my desktop especially since its internet is Ethernet.

I tested this on other browsers to see if it was only on Edge but it turns out that chrome and firefox experience the same issue with different sites as well. For all three, I haven't been able to go on Facebook and Yahoo, and sometimes Google.

I know the problem is from my end because clearly, the sites are up. Is there any way to solve this or has anyone else found a solution to this?

I'm running Windows 10.

I've tried the following:
- ipconfig / flush
- ipconfig / reset
- ipconfig / release
- ipconfig / renew
- clearing caches and browsing history
- a full scan for malware using malwarebytes and windows defender, already removed/quarantined all threats, did this multiple times to ensure there were none left
- reinstallation of chrome and firefox and a reset of edge
- ipv4 - changing preferred and alternate dns address to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.8.4 respectively

A:"we can't reach this page" error

Hi. Welcome to TSF.

You mentioned threats were found by Windows Defender and Malwarebytes. Were they actually malware or just PUPs? A broken Internet connection is one of the common after-effects of a malware infection, and post-infection repairs need to be done, assuming all of the infections have been cleared. I advice seeking a clean bill of health from the virus removal section, and after they declare your system free from infections, come back here and we will advice further if the problem isn't cured.

it sounds like this is a security problem, press the little exclamation mark (or "yield" looking sign) in the top right corner of your first post and ask the admin if they can move this thread to the security forum... then complete the instructions below.

---------------------------

Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

I've noticed that lately when I turn my laptop on, it takes forever for the desktop to load and then when I click on IE, my home page doesn't want to open until I've used task manager several times to stop the program from running. I have AVG free version and I'm very careful of where I search and what I open. I've done virus scans from online and with AVG, I've deleted several programs I had on my computer, etc. Nothing seems to help. I did the ComboFix scan and have the log saved to my notepad. It did not seem to help. This is as far as I've gotten. I am not very computer literate, but when I do try something from different posts, I've been successful. I don't know if I have programs fighting each other to open, or what, Can anyone help?

Hi everybody,

I have been using my.yahoo.com home page that was provided by my IPS AT&T. All of the sudden I could not get a home page when I clicked on Home button. My home page is www.my.yahoo.com. It works on hubby's PC and doesn't work on mine. It's a customizable page that allows me to put only the stuff I want - calendar, news, apps. etc.
When I clicked on Home I get this error message (please see attached image):

Does anybody use this home page from AT&T and has an idea what happened. I did a System Restore already and it did not help.
Any tip and advice are much appreciated.
P.S. I tries to use ADW Cleaner to remove whatever a problem may be with Yahoo, but ADW freezes my computer, totally unusable. .

Therefore he has not got the normal menu down the left hand side allowing him access to News, Sports, Business, Entertainment etc etc.

Is there some setting that needs to be activated/deactivated to allow him to use WMP normally?

Hi guys!!  Boy, I hope you can help me because I am about to pull my hair out over this one.

I think I got infected with some virus called HEU_AEGIS_HttpDownloader blah blah a month back.  I think this because it came up in my AV (Trend Micro Titanium Maximum Security).  The AV did its thing and I guess cleaned the virus or removed it.  It no longer shows up.  During this time, I also received about a dozen of other warnings about a suspicious file which Trend deleted whenever it showed up.  It was always found at: C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Temp\***.tmp.exe (the *** would always be some random letters and numbers).  This virus and ***.tmp.exe file no longer shows up.  However...

Since that virus popped up (and these two things may not be related) I keep getting a web threat listed in Trend Micro which shows a web threat which happens about twice every hour.  It says it 'blocked' a web threat to website address 176.9.##.###/ip.php

I have checked my services, msconfig start up settings, registry, and even a complete search on my hard drive for that IP (which I partially masked on purpose).  Nothing can find it.

I tried running full scans of Trend Micro Titanium Maximum Security, Ad Aware, MalwareBytes, and Super AntiMalware.  All of them say my machine is clean.

I even tried using my earliest system restore point, and that did not rid me of these constant web threats.

I believe I found the cause of this issue.  A rootkit was hiding itself pretty well.  Malwarebytes, SuperAntiSpyware, Trend Micro Titanium, and Ad Aware could not find it.  I finally tried Kaspersky's TDSSKiller and it found and deleted an .exe file and registry entry it said was a high risk.  Since it removed the file, I have had no web threats in the past 24 hours.

Here is the text of the infected file TDSSKiller reported and removed:

UDS:DangerousObject.Multi.Generic
File: C:\Document and Settings\Owner\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\SystemCache\6.0\25\winhlp32.exe
Malware object, high risk

If anyone else is experiencing a constant barage of web threats being blocked and can't find the cause; be sure to try TDSSKiller.

Hi All,

i am having some dificulty sharing my internet connection to my wireless router.

what i have is 3g usb dongle, win7 x32 ultimate pc, lan switch, wireless router. and other devices that will connect to the wireless.

what i want to do is share the 3g dongle internet that will be pluged into pc to my wireless devices.

what i have done :
1. I managed to set the network up with just the router and with the ICS i was able to share the internet connection to another device on the network, it worked.

2. I managed to get the wireless router (built in dhcp) to connect to the same network, all devices that connect to the wireless router pics up the network, shows all devices and also show the internet gateway device.(internet that is shared) they can access ech other like the homegroup and media servers installed... it shows internet connection. But the internet will not access on the wireless devices.

is this a setting the wireless router that needs to be changed? is it a setting on the ICS?

I have tried disabling the dhcp on the router and let ICS handle everything, I dont know how to share internet through one pc to another without ICS so i have not tried this option if one exist.

Can any one please help? ( in my mind this should actually be a simple network configuration. 1 pc sharing internet to a lan and wan)

Hello I'm having a bit of trouble with Internet Explorer on Windows 8.1 PRO 64 bit. I just erased my hard drive with DOD and reinstalled windows clean. Updated and installed SUPERAntiSpyware Professional, SpywareBlaster, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, Bitdefender Total Security 2015. And Even CCleaner PRO. But IE keeps making the home page ABOUT:BLANK and I cant change it. Is this normal for IE to have that as the home page and to be unchangeable. I had no external hard drives or flash drives plugged at the time of restoring the OS but I did notice the computer going a tad bit slower after the restore. Such as transfer rates and such on the hard drive windows explorer.exe not loading very fast. Icons taking 7 secs to load the picture. Computer boots fast but loading into windows it turns black and I had to press ctrl-alt-del to refresh the explorer.exe. But it seemed after I installed everything IE's home page became about:blank. I built the computer years ago, the cpu is about 45 C and the GPU is around 35 C and the PSU has the right volts the bios is updated. Nothing about the hardware seems wrong. I just don't understand the issue I'm facing. Could anybody help me out with this?

A:IE About:blank home page unchanegable, windows isn't loading correctly.

I would approach this as with any other user's issue; and it looks like you have some experience on the forum based on your Post history.

You mention it's a custom-built PC you built; it would be very helpful to have your Mobo specs and Hard drive Make/Model if available. If not, download SPECCY for free at piriform.com and post back here. Custom-built PC's can be tricky, and this could be anything from a failing PSU to a nasty spyware virus that Hijacked your home page. Also, what version of IE are you running?

We need to try and narrow down between a software issue with Windows and a possible hardware failure of RAM, Disk, GPU, and Motherboard. You know all these details; we do not, so the only way we have of getting this information is to ask you.

Couple of more questions for you; what version of Windows were you running on your Custom-rig prior to the Win8.1 upgrade? Did you run the Windows Compatability Assistant prior to installing the 8.1 upgrade to check for driver or hardware compatibility issues? If your Motherboard is like 5 yrs. old or older you can have problems. My Dell Studio540 had a number of minor issues when I attempted the 8.1 upgrade on it last year; and it's 6 yrs. old now. And it did require me to Flash the BIOS to newest version to run the 8.1 properly.

I'm sure you're aware that older hardware and newer/newest versions of Windows don't always mix well, like oil and water.

That being said; have you run hard drive diagnostics (Seatools or... Read more

I have had multiple problems with this computer and nothing seems to help but discovery of more malware. I inherited this desktop from an x-roommate and it is a mess. I am wondering if it would be better to re-format XP. I don't have another XP disc so am not sure about the partitions and what needs to be done to do that. Per Avira the trojans as of lately are: TR/Fakealert.EC.1; TR/Fakeinit.A; and TR/Fraudload.wxpm.

Some of the symptoms are as follows: When I go to the start menu, there are only 11 programs that come up under all programs. And when I click on most of them they are empty. The same with many other files. Home page redirects, many, many files have been created, indexed and some created into dat files. There are extra administrator users on here and extra window users. (windows11 and windows12 for example) In Onenote they have copied all the files from windows11 into ONENOTE. I believe someone has been remotely using this computer for a long time. Affecting the system volume and data and no telling what else. I have ran maylwarebytes previously, Aswmbr. eset online scanner and many others in the past. It is also affecting my antivirus or any malware removal program I put on here by Disabling or it disappears all together. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Vicky

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them. Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.

Recently, I changed DSL providers from Earthlink to another company. I did this for two reasons: the Earthlink throughput was awful, and their tech support was virtually useless. After numerous attempts to get the speed problems resolved I finally gave up. Upon ordering the new provider's service, I uninstalled Earthlink from my PC. Problem is, no matter what I do, my IE home page is the Earthlink start page. I have used the IE options to change it, it goes right back to Earthlink. I have changed it in the registry, it goes right back to Earthlink. I have checked for spyware/adware, run registry cleaner, you name it. Is my PC going to be forever haunted by Earthlink? I have XP home edition, latest version. Can someone rid me of this troublesome home page?

Hello, i am trying to fix a computer for my company but im not sure what the issue is.

1. The computer is on, but has blank screen. I held the power button to turn it off, waiting 1 minute and started it back up. I got the "windows has been shut down improperly" screen. I told it startup like normal and i see the Windows XP icon and the loading bar underneath. But then the screen goes black and the moniter just sits there on, with just black.

I thinking it may be either the RAM card has an error of the motherboard itself is failing, but im not sure how to test these. Any and all help would be greatly appriciated.

Ok so here's what's going on one of my computers (windows xp home professional I believe) I downloaded a pretty nasty virus by mistake and ran it (for some reason avg didnt detect it as a virus) well this virus may just of totaled my hard drive beyond repair I've researched on the web for people who have had it happen to them but found no easy answer. What happens is this:

1. I boot up computer
2. Computer gets all the way to loading bar
3. Quick Blue screen appears
4. BAM computer reboots endless cycle

Now I've made myself a winxp recovery cd (never had one in the first place) and have tried various commands to bring my computer to a working state to no avail

chkdsk and chkdsk /r return with something like "the system has unrecoverable errors"

bootcfg /rebuild returns with something about a problem with the file system and says to run chkdsk lol

I also tried a command to rebuild the boot.ini but it failed to...

I have been successful at getting windows PE to run by booting to cd drive

I tried chkdsk from there and still no good.

Safe mode returns the same results btw so thats out of the question.

ONE TIME I was able to start up windows in something like directory services mode but im not quite sure how :/ It just decided to show up on the menu with boot options on a try.

I've got like 40gigs of backed up data on there that I was *hoping* not to lose so this really pisses me off.

Also when I did get into windows that ONE time I sy... Read more

I've been told that this may be a problem with malware:

For the last month or so I have been unable to log into Windows Messenger and Yahoo Messenger. In fact, they did sort of work for a few days after I hadn't used my PC for about a week, but then stopped working again.

As Messenger is linked to Internet Explorer (I usually use Firefox with no problems), I checked my IE and saw that, although it should open on my ISP's homepage, it goes to another page automatically - even though the address in the address box is the ISPs. In fact, I can't change to another page after that.

I don't know if this IE problem is connected to my Messenger problem, maybe its an (un) happy coincidence.

I wonder if anyone has any suggestions?

Many thanks.

I'm running Windows XP and Kaspersky Antivirus.

Hello Technet, I am trying to set the default home for all users page in IE 11 using the IEAK11 tool, but it is not working in Windows 10 1607. The home page does not update or change from the default msn.com no matter what I do. I have tried using both
a custom configuration and full install using the settings "windows 8.1 64 bit" and "windows 8.1 32 bit".
Any thoughts on how to correct this or maybe configure this a different way? I would like to allow users to change the home page afterwards and prefer not to use a local group policy to enforce it. Also, we do not use the domain group policy for default
home page yet, but we are just trying to change it for new deployments using SCCM, not for everyone currently in production.

As Messenger is linked to Internet Explorer (I usually use Firefox with no problems), I checked my IE and saw that I had a similar problem reported by another TechGuy user. I've cut and pasted his original comments here. We have the same ISP, but the home page my IE reverts to is different:

"My home page is set to be the 'Virgin net' page, this is confirmed when i go into internet properties and connections, because it says 'Virgin.net' ect ect, but when i open the internet explorer icon it sends me to a page called 'allsecruitynotes.com. This telling me I have allsorts of Spyware on board.
When I change back to the Virgin net page, close the internet, go back to it later, it will have changed back to the 'allsecruitynotes' page."

I don't know if this IE problem is connected to my Messenger problem, maybe its an (un) happy coincidence. Anyway, I've run Hijack this, and this is the log:

Hi:
This problem is either Networking/connection or XP issue, but I want to find out what's the problem is.

The issue is that whenever start-up PC/XP, 'not connected,' page appears instead Home-Page. After a couple of second, it shows 'now connected' in the rectangular-box at the right bottom of corner of task-bar and I need to click to open 'Home-Page' manually although I set 'I.E.' on start-up to open Home-Page automatically.

It appears to me that my ISP is slow connection, but of course I can not be sure.

How to open up Home-Page, instead seeing 'not connected' page?

Thanks for your help in advance.

A:'Not connected' Page instead "Home Page'

You Network Adapter loads last on your computer and it takes up to a minute to connect to the internet. So, everything else is going to load first before you can access a web page. So, if you have IE set to open with Windows, it is going to show a not connected message until you get an internet connection. Better to not have IE load at startup and just be patient. You can also, just leave your computer on and the internet connection always on.

SpywareBlaster http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html
AdAware SE http://www.majorgeeks.com/download506.html
SpyBot S&D 1.3 http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/

DL them (they are free), install them, check each for their
definition updates and then run AdAware and Spybot, fixing anything
they say.

In SpywareBlaster - Always enable all protection after updates
SpyBot - After an update run immunize

Do these and reboot before the next step.

Then get HiJack This http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3155.html, put
it in a permanent folder (C:\HJT) , run it , DO NOT fix anything, post the
log here.

Hi noroots

Welcome to TSG!

Click here to download CWShredder. UnZip the file, close all browser windows and click on the cwshredder.exe then click "Fix" (Not "Scan only") and let it do it's thing.

When it is finished Restart your computer.

IMPORTANT!: To help prevent this from happening again, I strongly recommend you install the patches for the vulnerabilities that this hijacker exploits.

The simplest way to make sure you have all the security patches is to go to Windows update and install all "Critical Updates and Service Packs"

Go here and download Adaware 6 Build 181

Install the program and launch it.

First in the main window look in the bottom right corner and click on Check for updates now and download the latest referencefiles.

Make sure the following settings are made and on -------ON=GREEN

From main window :Click Start then Activate in-depth scan (recommended)

Click Use custom scanning options then click Customize and have these options selected: Under Drives and Folders put a check by Scan within archives and below that under Memory and Registry put a check by all the options there.

Now click on the Tweak button in that same window. Under Scanning engine select Unload recognized processes during scanning and under Cleaning Engine select Let windows remove files in use at next reboot

Click proceed to save your settings.

Now to scan just click the Next button.

When the scan is finished mark everything for removal a... Read more

would someone please help me with this problem?

I click on a new tab and it comes up as a blank page rather than your first home page.

so I change the setting in: tools > internet options > tabs > settings > when a new tab is opened, open..... ok ok).

It works fine during the current session, however after a shutdown and restart, new tab opens as a blank page again.

any help greatly appreciated.

the problem started after I uninstalled and then reinstalled avg free antivirus (trying to see if that was messing up fios media manage).

I have windows 7 home premium 64 bit.

thanks,
Chas

Hey guys, I have a bad case of the Blue screen of death. At first I was only receiving the registry error(0x00000051) when I attempted to boot safe mode. I eventually fixed that using a program called safekeyrepair or something like that. But now I get the bsod when trying to enter safe mode or normal windows.

So I decided screw it I'll try to use the directory recovery mode and just repair or reinstall. But that mode produces the same bsod. So then I tried using my windows xp cd from another computer and when that loads it says it can't find a hard drive, which is bs because I've run a hdd diagnostics program and it spent an hour scanning a hard drive I'm sure of it. The error I received from the diagnostics scan was Error code 0000: Read verification failed.

That's about all I can think of, can anyone help?! Thanks for looking!

Sounds like a failure of the file system or the drive itself, IMO.

The Read Verification Failed...pretty much says the drive cannot be read by the diagnostic.
