Q: 9470m with orange/white blinking charging led and constantly...

After having replaced an SSD the system shows a constant power button led on and the charging led is blinking white/orange.I removed the battery and even the clock-battery, with no help. The symptom shows when having the notebook on AC or/and battery. So I am not sure if the battery is dead, or if the notebook itself took some damage. Thanks for your advice.

Hi all, I bought a U41-70 only a few months ago. Just recently, while I plug in my laptop to charge, the battery indicator shows status charging. However, the LED indicator stays orange and slowly blinking (light is on for 3-4 sec then blinks and so on). And the battery percentage won't increase as well. I have looked into Lenovo settings but the Power Status tab says AC adapter is attached and the main battery condition is Good. Do you have any idea what is happening here or any suggestions?

I have had 3 different people now tell me conflicting things about wiring cat 5 2 of which are qualified networking people, (I'm not, I'm just dabbliung and trying to sort out my home)

When wiring up a patch cable, 1 person said it has to be in the following order due to the green and greenwhite white being transmit wires or something..?
(not sure about the order of then greens and blues but it was roughly that)

The other person said he does it like this purely for convention, and the 2nd netwoking guy said it doesnt matter as long as they are the same at either end. and for crossover you just reverse the sequence.
I'd be enclined to o with the it doesnt matter which order, as they are only wires the colour of a wire doesnt meen jack surely. its just to help you get the order correct... no? its like people who say you shouldnt do 123456 in the lotto as thatll never come up... well newsflash its statistically the same as getting 6 randomly ordered numbers.

Anyways. i was interested to know what the consensus is?

Sometimes when I plug in my laptop to the mains the charging light goes to orange to signify it's charging the battery. After a period of time it goes off, and starts flashing like this:
This is whilst it's turned off. When it's turned on the power button light starts flashing orange and a darker orange.

It seems to happen sporadically. One day it'll be fine, the next it won't.
I've put a voltmeter on the charger plug and that reads 18.5volt whilst plugged to the mains. When I plug the charger in and place the voltmeter on the negative and ground connectors for the battery it reads 0.8volts.
The battery works, I've recently replaced it because the old one died. I've also checked that when fully charged with the voltmeter and that works as specified in the user manual (found at
Whilst it is like this the battery does not charge and the computer runs as if it were on battery power, not plugged in, whilst the lights flash. When I remove the plug it stops flashing and the left light shows a solid green, as does the power button light.

Does anyone know what these lights are supposed to indicate? It makes no mention of it in the guide.
Thank you for your time,

My computer when I'd turn it on used to be a green light, but lately it's blinking very slowly and is a dull orange colour. Nothing is wrong with the computer itself though. I tried changing the PSU cable to see if that would do anything, but it didn't.
My motherboard is an AMD Asus F2A55-M LK2 and my processor is an AMD A4-5300 if that helps any.
I tried to Google the problem, but all I got up was info for a Dell PC and mine is custom built.
Does anyone have any ideas?

As of yesterday, my 9550 won't charge. The battery stays at 87%, but if I unplug the AC adapter, the laptop shuts down immediately. I read about the issue online and removed the battery and pressed the power button for 15 seconds, but that didn't help. In BIOS, the battery is shown as "idle", and the charger as 130W, which it is. The LED is blinking orange at all times, and the 5-LED battery indicator on the right blinks the 1st, the 3rd and the 5th LEDs when pressed.
The machine is 15", 16GB of RAM, 500GB SSD, non-touch and it's running Ubuntu.

A:XPS 9550 won't charge, orange LED blinking

Hi andronov,
Thanks for posting.
Apologies that your 9550 is not charging the battery.  It sounds like either a failure of the battery, the AC adapter or the charging circuit on the motherboard.
If you are still under warranty, please contact Tech Support and do some troubleshooting so that arrangements can be made to repair the machine if needed.  If you are not under warranty any longer, then you would either have to contact our Out Of Warranty department to pay for troubleshooting and repair, or you could contact a local computer repair shop for assistance.

This started almost a week ago. I would plug in my charger and it would blink orange but if I took out the charger and re-plugged it in it would charge normally. Currently my PC completely died and every time I try to plug in the charger the light simply blinks a few times and nothing happens. HELP!'

A:Charger blinking orange but computer won't charge

Blink orange is an indication of : The battery has reached a low battery level, a critical battery level , or there is a battery error. Try the following steps Shut down the system and disconnect all the external devices connected to the PC.Disconnect the AC power from the wall outlet. Remove the battery from its compartment.Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds continuously. Now put back the battery & reconnect it to the AC power wall outlet. If the notebook it coming on try performing battery test using F2 diagnosis?s. Turn off you unit ? restart ? keep tapping esc at startup Press F2 from the status up list and perform a battery test. Depending on the results we may suggest you. Please click on the below link to view the steps.

Hello! yestarday I tried to open my laptop but it didn't start. i thought that maybe the battery was empty so i plugged the power cord, but nothing happened. then I noticed the led near the power cord blinking orange. After a fast googling i came to this thread ( ) using the 8-step guide I managed to boot the laptop just to realise that it won't detect the power cord! It was really strange, because when I noticed this, my battery was already at 2%! I shut down the laptop, and tried to open it without the battery, it booted normally, but it still can't detect that the power cord is plugged in!!!!! On the other thread some mentioned to update the bios, but in my case where it can't detect the power cord, that's impossible, because the procedure requires the laptop to be plugged in. Now the laptop won't start normally, I have to keep the power button pressed for 40 secs and then plug the power cord. In addition it won't work only with battery, and that is my biggest problem!!  What should I do now?

My HP 250 G2 F0Z26EA#BH5 Notebook won't boot. It has the WiFi key blinking orange light at 2 sec interval and not booting and won't power off even when pressing and holding power key. It all happened after a Bios Rollback (wanted to move back to the original Bios) The HP Tech team couldn't help solve the problem. They say it's a motherboard problem that I'll have to change my motherboard. I know that changing a motherboard costs a fortune, it's like changing a system and I cannot afford the cost. Another thing is that I have a BIOS Encryption, I added a Bios password to the System both Administrator and Power-on Password. The troubleshooting steps like removing all power source, then pressing and holding power key for 15-20secs and after plug Power cord without battery didn't work. I've also tried holding Windows key + B and then Power on. The System didn't boot but they WiFi key light remained steady. Now the last Agent that called asked me to keep pressing F8 key or Shift+F8 key immediately I pressed the Power button. I am yet to try this but I forgot to tell her that I have a BIOS Encryption (well she asked me but I wasn't sure what she was talking about so I said No).I cannot afford to change the motherboard (even though they haven't given me a quote yet). I planning on selling the System for a new one before this. Please help me get the Notebook operational. I need to get back to work with it.

Yesterday, I was just sitting there watching TV at my computer desk, with the computer on, next thing I know- I look over and the computer was shutdown. I didn't know why, so then I go to turn it on, it will not turn on- and the power button, that should be green, starts blinking orange. I'm not sure what the problem is, I think something might be dead. I have been getting a message that says "Alert! System Battery Voltage Low" for about 2 years, I'm not sure if that would be it or not (Maybe that died? Would that do it? I don't know).

When I try to turn it on, I can see the fan and stuff turn on for about half a second, then everything just turns off except for the mobo light and the orange blinking light. I've tested my brothers working power supply in mine, so I know that mine still works because that didn't fix it. I've taken the graphics card out, that didn't do it either. I don't know what else I could do, please help somebody, I'm lost without my computer... Thank you.

I havent tried my last game because im afraid of the results :). One thing my friend and I think is possible is that it is the CD driver. It is a benq x56. Nice job that you have tested other RAM modules in your Portege notebook because this would my first suggestion testing other RAM modules? :)

In my opinion it?s a serious hardware malfunction like mainboard or CPU but without special diagnostic tools it?s not possible to say more about this especially on this virtual way. So you must get in contact with an authorized service provider and ask for help. The guys have good diagnostic tools and can help you to get rid of this.

I have a Dell Dimension E521, it started a few days ago when it was running smooth, one day I turned it off. When I tried to turn it on a day later it wouldn't display an image on the monitor.

The computer power ups fine, the fans are blowing strong like usual on start up but do not stop blowing hard. Its like it gets stuck at the start up stage.

The power button flashes orange, while all components work in the computer, I have took out unnecessary parts such as CD ROMS etc.

I have checked all fans and every thing seems to be ok, but it wont display any image. (the monitor will not come out of standby)

Before I used to take out a random part and some how it would work after I plug it out and in again (switching power by mains off worked first, then taking the Ethernet cable out worked, then taking the ram out worked). This is quite random and I cannot think what it could be. I have taken everything out and pluged it all back in again, double checking all cables are correct and all devices are working correctly.

Please help me.

Dimension E521 is the model of my Dell Computer.

For last 1 week my Acer ES1-511-C1UU is not charging and start blinking the orange LED. I've followed the previous discussions and tried to do all the things. But even after reset the battery, open and check all the connections by voltmeter (including the charging port, battery connection in the motherboard & adapter). Now the problem is the adapter is showing a voltage of 19.19 volts (which seems the adapter is ok), but the battery connector in the motherboard is showing only 3 - 4 volts. Now kindly suggest me how to get rid of this problem.  I am from Bangladesh and here we don't have any Acer distributor to support me on this issue.  Waiting for prompt support please.

If the light is blinking, after the laptop shuts down/hibernates, I have to remove the power lead and then reconnect for it to charge correctly. Also when I run on ac power only with the battery removed, the laptop will after a while suddenly shut down. Any ideas how to correct these issues would be grately appreciated. Thanks in advance.Al

I have a Dell dimension 4700 . I recently acquired it from work. Not necessarily in the best condition. I cleaned it up and tried to power on and all it does is blink orange/amber,it will not power on . It has started since I've had it though and i cleaned it up and it ran great, but i only got it to start one time. Its running WinXP Pro,with a Pentium 4. So what i know is that the mobo is getting power because the green light is on. I have checked the 4-pin aux cord that powers the processor. I know the power supply is set to the correct voltage. All cables seem to be connected properly. I have run out of ideas. Any Suggestions would be much appreciated!

Even though you have a green light. The power supply could be bad. The green light says that the +5 volts is being produced. There are several volages the come from a computers power supply, not just one or two

As of today my XPS 13 started to behave in a very strange way.It only boots and works when it's plugged in to a charger, and it doesn't seem to charge the batter at all while it's plugged it, which is stuck at ~48%. When I plug it out, it power off immediately and I have to plug it back in to be able to boot up. Additionally to that, the light indicator below the touchpad is bliking rapidly with an amber light (~3-4 blinks per second).
Any ideas of what might go wrong ?

As I understand, the blinking LED is similar to the Post beeps that occur if you have a small speaker attached to you motherboard.  In theory the blink pattern should provide an indicator as to the cause of the problem.  Would it be possible for you to note down the blink pattern ? Or does it just blink orange all the time ?

Are there any 'Beeps'?
A blinking amber power button light, usually indicates a power supply issue.
Try installing a known working power supply to see if this makes a difference.
The Dimension 5000 does not use a Dell proprietary power supply, most standard ATX power supplies with either a 24-pin or 20+4-pin main motherboard power connector, with, or without the on/off switch can be used, a power supply with two SATA power connectors is needed. You should be able to buy a replacement power supply from a local or online computer store.
Regards to transferring the important files to your laptop, you could use the following:
Remove the hard drive and use an USB adaptor similar to THIS and attach the hard drive to a USB port of your laptop and transfer the files to the laptop.

you would need to re-install windows and also the chipset drivers for the new motherboard - unless its identical to the old motherboard ?

is it an identical replacement ?

post back the make and model and revision of the old board - should be written on the actual board itself

Hi I made a thread yesterday regarding a minor PC problem I had while trying to install windows XP on my uncles PC the problem was solved thankfully.

I now have an even bigger problem of my own with my PC.
I turned my PC on in the evening and the monitor screen was blank and displayed a blinking orange light, the fan does come on. I doubled checked the wires to see if any were loose but everything is inserted correctly.

What’s weird is the PC that I was installing windows on yesterday was doing the same thing but once you turn it off and turn it back on it would be fine and load windows.
But my one is not even doing that, there is nothing wrong with the monitor has I have brought it recently and I also checked the PC using my brother’s monitor and the same thing happens.

Once I finished installing windows on my uncles PC I turned my PC on and watched highlights of a soccer game so it actually was working last night. But I have no clue as to what has happened?
Can someone please help me?

I've read that this is caused by a faulty battery cell. However, since this model is so old it would be a waste of money to buy a new battery. hello, all... it is in yet another time of need that i turn to you notebook (dell inspiron 1525, about 1 year old) started showing signs that its battery might be warn out - when it was not plugged in with its adapter, within a few minutes it would without warning go into sleep mode and upon trying to turn on, warn me that the battery was at a critical low...

now, today it had been on for a while in a summer-hot room and it was only when i tried to put it to sleep to ~reduce~ the burden on it, the battery light started flashing orange (the warning that your battery is in trouble, 4 times quick, 1 blue flash) and nothing - not turning it off, letting it cool, would make it stop does come back on but i don't foolishly think it's going to last! the battery meter also says, instead of 100%, now 99% and will not go up... (my father's notebook battery meter is always stuck on ***74%*** even if allowed to charge, and it's been this way since turning it on for the first time... so i'm not sure what is causing that...)
the only time the orange light did go out was when i UNplugged the adapter but as soon as i plug it back in, that happens again ...and if i leave it unplugged for too long, the system will go to that critical low situation again and this time it won't be able to re-charge either. based on your experience and expertise, do you think the problem is most likely the battery (and/or the adapter cable? or the a/c connector port?) ne... Press the F12 key a few times before WIndows begins loading.  Can you get the Dell diagnostics to load from the menu?  If so, run an extended system test and record all errors that appear.

I have a probook that was upgraded to Windows 10 and has been working fine for a few weeks.  Today as we boot it goes right to an orange screen with white vertical lines.  I have run some system diagnostics (F2) and everything seems to pass and then looked at the BIOs (F10) and again it seems fine.  When I try to boot to safe mode (F8) it won't do anything - goes back to the orange screen.  I have limited knowledge and am trying what I have found on searching the internet.  Do I have any hope of fixing this or do I need to take it in?

My battery light is flashing four times orange then once white.  It's showing "54% available (plugged in, not charging)".  When I remove the power supply the light keeps flashing and the computer enters power save mode like normal.
I thought my issue was with the batter so I bought a new one.  I switched them out and the battery light stays solid white and shows "63% available (plugged in, charging), but I left it for four hours and didn't charge at all.  And on this battery whenever I remove the power supply the computer immediately dies.
What is my issue and how do I fix it?

Hi everyone, After looking through countless issues, I have hit a brick wall with this notebook. A friend gave me two of these notebooks about two years ago and my father stripped the one to get the other working. The stripped one then sat until yesterday without being powered on or anything like that. Me, deciding I need a laptop, try and get this thing running. Now I am a tech savvy person and I can strip and repair things in the dark and I thought this was going to be a simple procedure but man was I wrong. What I have tried:Starting the notebook with and without the battery.Tried the working battery from the other notebook.Completely stripped and checked all connections.Replaced CMOS battery.Removed faulty keyboard and tried starting it again.Removed HDD, WWAN and WLAN and again tried to start the notebook.Removed all RAM Modules as well as put it back in either socket.8-Step Procedure (Found here)  to clear Caps.Plugged AC into different socket.None of the above worked The Issue:Right now, after doing everything I could, I am sitting with a notebook that does not turn on in any way. Once plugged into AC (With or without battery), the Power LED blinks white and orange (Once) and then the Power Button begins to blink until it turns off and the Power LED does it's thing again.  I know that the board is obviously getting power because the Power LED is lighting up along with the Power Button LED. Hi there,
I have a brand new (2 days old) Inspiron 15 7559. Today I went to turn it on, and it refused to power up. The backlit keyboard came on, and I noticed that the front LED would come on, then after awhile it would start blinking orange.
I've tried it without the battery, just on AC mains; and just on the battery and the result is the same.
I tried looking around for some information but haven't found much related to my issue. Any suggestions or easy fixes? Or is it something that needs to taken into Dell?
Thanks in advance!

Please check if there is any damage on the machine. Check if all the ports on the machine are fine or misaligned. Sometimes if the pins in the USB ports are touching each other, they are known to cause many issues on the machine.
Are you using an original Dell Adapter? When you plug in the adapter to the system, does the adapter stay firm or does it fall off easily? Is the adapter frayed? Is there any damage on the system? Could you test with another power adapter if possible? Does the adapter led stay on and stable or does it go off when connected to the system?
Disconnect all external components - Turn off the system - press and hold the fn key + power button to turn on the system and it should initiate the diagnostics - see if you encounter any errors or check if the system turns off automatically while on the diags - test this step with and without the adapter connected.
Download the service manual - reseat the memory modules / HDD and check if the system powers on.
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private conversation with the service tag and your contact details(Name and Email) for case records.

Through reading fourms, some people had similar issue and solved it by disconnecting and reconnecting the keyboard. I have tried this and still no luck. I have changed out the following; Memory, Harddrive, Charger, Battery.  Still no luck. If you know anything that I could try or anything that would help, please let me know. Many thanks

Hi guys I hope you could help me with my problem.

I have a mid2010 13in i5 intel hd4000 MBP running OSX Maverick .

I have encountered this problem of it not charging a couple of times recently.

So I connected the magsafe adapter to my laptop but it won't charge. The adapter has no green or orange light whatsoever. So I shut it down and connected the adapter again. This time the adapter blinks with green light. But it is still not charging. I opened the laptop and the adapter is not showing any light again. The adapter is blinking green erraticaly when the laptop is off and no lights when it is on. Either way it is not charging. I tried doing an SMC reset but it did nothing. The problem goes away after some hour of not using the laptop and the adapter.

This problem happened a couple of times and I'm having it right now. I hope that it would go away later. What could it be? I have included a video of the adapter blinking.

Thank you!

However, the battery doesn't lose charge while it's plugged in. It's like the computer is dependent upon the power cord and the battery is shot.  This is strange because I don't leave my laptop charging for long periods of time. I had this problem before when I had windows XP as my OS.
And now I have the same problem, well actually i don't know if it's a problem but it bothers me when i see this red light blinking all the time as it makes me think my hard drive is in pain.
When I had XP all I had to do was turning off cd autorun editing the Registry, restart my computer and voila!, no more constant blinking.
I did the same with windows 7 64bit but it did not work.

I wonder if there's anyone out there having the same issue that could share a little knowledge with me so i can solve this..

Dear people,

A customer brought a Toshiba Satellite M50D-A-10D for repair with the problem "doesn't work"

The first thing I check what was actually happening when I switched on the device. The powerled on the front blinked five times. Googling around for it gave me so many possibilities that it makes me concider it as a standard-all-error-covering blink sequence.

The first things a laptop repairsman tries is to drain the power from the capacitors by ejecting the battery and adapter plug and keep the powerbutton pressed for a little while. 9 out of 10 notebooks are working again after that. Not all, some need the cmos to be reset, so I went after the cmos battery which was easily found. Bummer it was soldered to the board with a reset button next to it. You never know a button works, while you do know the battery doesn't do a thing when it's out. The reset button didn't do anything, so I soldered the cmos battery out. Still nothing. Just the led blinking 5 times.

The only things working are the powerbutton and the fan. The power off by keeping the button pressed for 4.5 seconds works, so something understands my intensions when I press the button. Still that's all. The hard drive doesn't start spinning and the backlight of the screen doesn't switch on.

Then the problem elimination procedures start. Everything got clipped off from the mainboard:

Hello, we see a weird behaviour after restoring files from a Acronis Backup to a folder.
We are about upgrading the Computers to Win7.
The Process is:
Make an Image from the client with Acronis 11.0.17440 to external USB HDD.
Clean Harddisk
Install win7.

Up to then all is fine, the system boots after Post (Windows is loading) without delay.
Then we restore the Files from the Image on USB HDD to a local Folder c:\OldData via Boot CD.
After this the System has a delay of ~ 2 Minutes after post with a blinking white cursor, until 'Windows is Loading' appears.
This behaviour also persists if we delete this folder, restore without acl's and so on, so it is
How to Fix this ? Thanks!

Ok guys here is my dilemma, it's driving me nuts.
I'll start from the beginning
I was having problems with my status bar icons being blank even after a brand new installation and random crashing.
Then my video card failed and was giving the beep error for that.
Replaced the card
Cannot install windows onto hard drive via the PC, the installation gets 90% through loading files and then comes up with an error.
Tried via disk and USB tried both windows 7 and windows 8 to no avail.
I installed windows via my laptop onto my hard drive via a dock using the program to load windows into an external hard drive, it worked and I thought my bad luck had ended.
I booted the hard drive on the laptop and it booted windows.
Now I think yay! Time to put it back into pc thinking the problems fixed.
I press the power button and go through the usual boot sequence goes to the blinking white cursor.
I cannot get past this, have made the hard drive the primary one to be booted from in the bios and still no joy.
Which is why I've come to you guys to find out if anyone has had this problem and know how to fix this

Well can't wait to finally have this issue resolved *crosses fingers

A:Blinking White Cursor startup

You cannot expect Win7 to start up on different hardware with completely different drivers without first using a procedure to Adjust Win7 to boot on new hardware with Paragon Adaptive Restore CD. Then if it still fails to boot with all other HD's unplugged, confirm the Partition Marked Active is 100mb System Reserved (preferred if you have it) or C, then run Startup Repair - Run 3 Separate Times .

It would be better to find out why you can't install Win7. Work though the steps for Overcoming Windows 7 Installation Failures - Windows 7 Help Forums which resolve 90% of installation problems.

If you get an error again, then google the error text to find out others have worked around it. Post it back here as well since we may have seen it before.

I guess the easiest way to start off is with the problem.
When I try to start up my computer, it will always end at a black screen with a blinking white underscore.
The computer will not boot up any farther than this.
it will get passed the "gateway" logo with the option to hit "Del" or "f12" to go into setup and then boot options.
I am honestly not sure if this is a windows 7 problem with my computer. But this seemed like the most likely option that it could be because I can still boot from my CD drive.
I have made a "Windows 7 recovery disk" from a laptop that is at my house , I have tried to go and use all the options that come with it.
The first option being one that is supposed to fix things wrong with windows 7. Every time i click it, it asks for me to unplug any extra things plugged into my computer and then try again. the thing being with that, I have nothing else besides a keyboard, mouse, monitor and power plugged in.
I have tried to use the system restore option and restore it to an older point. But after it runs for a bit, it says it cannot be restored to that previous point because of an unknown error.
I am not sure what the problem could be. I was hoping someone could lead me to another method of trying to fix the problem.
Thanks for taking the time to read this post.

A) Disconnect all peripherals(printer, external drive, etc...) from computer
B) Power off computer
C) Unplug the AC adapter from computer and wall socket
D) Press and hold in the "Power On" button for 15 seconds then release
E) Plug in the AC adapter into the wall socket, then the computer

Hi, I can't get my computer (Vista) to start. When I turn it on, all I get is a blinking little white line in the upper left corner of the screen. Nothing else before nor after. I tried to unplug/plug, turn off/on lots of times and nothing seems to work. I also put the installation cd in but it doesn't seem to do anything. I tried pressing any key but it doesn't do anything (also, I can't switch the num or maj key).

It does that every time I turn the computer on. Before that, I was using it when suddenly a message appeared saying something was wrong with the hard drive I think and the icons on the bar disappeared and the icons on the desktop were transparent (as if I cut them). I did a restart and got stuck on the screen with the blinking line.

Anyone has an idea on how to fix this? Thanks :P

I have a black screen and white blinking dash problem. The thing is, I can't even type f2 or f4, or anything whatsoever. It is not reacting at all to the keyboard. It's the second time this is happening in 2 days, every time I turn it off (properly) and try to turn it on, it does that. After a lot of hopeless trying to turn it on or make f2 or f4 work, it just starts working again normally... And now I finally turned it on after I spent the whole morning trying and I'm working on saving all my files, but now I'm scared to turn it off. What do I do?? What is wrong with my computer?

Hi everyone,
(I've looked around on this forum and others, but still I haven't been able to solve my problem. I'm sorry if I've missed any topic that represents the same issue or presents the solution. Anyway, here it is: )
I fell for the offer to upgrade my OEM Windows 7 Home Premium to Windows 10 on my ASUS N55SF, but directly after the installation I was greeted by a black screen with a blinking white underscore in the top left corner directly after startup screen!
I contacted Microsoft support, who couldn't help me very much. They said it probably had something to do with a conflict between my graphic card drivers and Win 10, and my only solution was to reinstall Win 7 with my recovery disc.
I have now found the recovery disc, formatted my system partition and reinstalled Win 7, only resulting in the same black screen with the blinking underscore! The system repair makes no difference. I've run chkdsk /r and everything seemed alright.
By the way, somehow the primary partition (number 2 in my case) is now labelled "E:". I don't know if that affects anything though.
Partition 1 is "RECOVERY", 25Gb (primary)
Partition 2 is the old system partition, 168Gb (primary)
Partition 3 is the system reserved partition, 100Mb (system)
Partition 4 is "DATA" where I have stored all my personal files, 505Gb (logical)
What am I to do?
I'm very thankful for your help and advice. I'm sorry for any misspellings or weird sentences, I'm Swedish a... Read more

A:Blinking white underscore, even after reinstalling Win7!

The first thing I would try is setting your BIOS settings back to default. Reboot and see if you still have the blank screen.
If your data on the 505GB partition is backed up you can do a factory reset if your Recovery Partition is intact. I believe for ASUS you tap F9 at boot. If you have a setting in BIOS called Boot Booster disable it.
All data you currently have on the computer will be wiped including any programs you installed.
Normally you do not need to partition the hard drive on a clean install. You would use the Advanced option. Delete all your partitions except your Data Partition then press next. Windows will automatically partition and format the unallocated space but because your Recovery Partition is at the beginning of the disk I would not recommend doing it.

I got my Radeon 6570 today and I installed it, but now Windows won't boot it just gives me the blinking white dash. So I removed the card, switched back to onboard from BIOS and it still didn't work. I tried a lot of other stuff but it didn't work so I reinstalled Windows with the graphics card removed (Hoping it would reinstall the drivers for the onboard video) it didn't. I ran a diagnostics text and everything is working, and I can even access all my personal files on my old Windows install from Linux so I know that it's active.

Just bought this Omen 17.3 inch today, and after a few hours, I finally noticed that the HDD light was white and flashing constantly. I'm not sure if this is due to the McAfee that was pre-installed on this laptop that is constantly working the CPU, or a defunct in the hardware. Could it possibly be the antivirus causing this?

A:Rapidly blinking white HDD light? (HP Omen 17)

Hit ctrl alt delete while Windows is running and you bring up task manager. In the lower left corner click "more details". It shows activity and what is using how much cpu, memory, disk, etc. I am not a big fan of McAfee and there are several much better antivirus programs you can use. Avast, AVG, Kaspersky, all good and there are free versions of Avast and AVG. I do not advise people I like to use McAfee or Norton...I do not work for HP and do not officially speak for them and I am sure they have a good reason for installing McAfee.

My computer didn't seem to have shut down completely. Although my memory is fuzzy about exactly what happened, I seem to recall that I came back to it, noted that it hadn't shut down completely as exptected (I had intended on shutting it down using windows|shut down in Windows 7), and (this is where I don't remember) either directed it to shut down, or to start.
I've seen some similar forums elsewhere. Some suggest a virus, and others a corrupted file. Also I ran a test many months ago that reported a graphics bios error, so I upgraded the NVDIA bios at that time.
Here is what is going on:
While the computer hangs, I see a black screen with a blinking white cursor in the upper left.
Typing anything doesn't seem to have any effect (including ctl-alt-del, alt-tab, the windows key, and all function keys).
The one thing that does have an effect is tapping the computer's power button once. After about 20 seconds, it shuts down with nothing more appearing on the screen as it shuts down.
When I hit the power button again, I see the f2 setup / f12 boot menu options, then "resuming windows", then the black screen with the blinking cursor.
Hitting F2 on "booting"/"resuming" takes me to the CMOS Setup Utility screen. I tried changing the boot configuration to prioritize the DVD, where I put a Windows recovery CD, but the CD is never spun up before or after this step. Exiting this screen takes me back to "resuming windows" and then the blinking w... Read more

For info , the white cursor keep blinking without loading into windows.

I tried generating a FRST Scan log so that you can get a clearer view of what's happening.
Can somebody please help me on that and provide me a fixlist.txt to solve same.

Hey guys, here I am again with another failure.
Today morning I woke up to my windows refusing to boot. It just does the white dash blinking in the top left corner (it jumps down a bit at first, then just keeps blinking endlessly). I'm aware that this can be a result of a poor shutdown or a crash or modified system files or program installation, or whatever. The thing is last night I was using the computer fine and I didn't install anything, modify anything, and it shut down correctly (as far as I know - after I clicked shut down I shut off the monitors and went somewhere else, and just when I came back it turned off so I assume it was fine).

I've tried a number of things already. First, I'm booting from an Ubuntu CD right now and my files are all fine and intact on the C:\ drive. Second, I tried running my Windows 7 CD to go into the recovery system and tried a bunch of things.

The recovery thing doesn't detect my operating system, first of all, but I've had this issue before. I remember that I got it to work somehow, but I don't remember how. I think it might have been a disc that I burned with a modification that allowed it to detect the system (I used some tutorials over at, can't remember which ones now though). I'll look for the CD, I might have it somewhere.
EDIT: I found what I presume is the CD but it doesn't even want to boot. I'll try looking for whatever I found before and make another one, I guess. But if I could get it to det... Read more

A:Help - Windows won't boot, white dash blinking endlessly.

From what you have written, this should be impossible but I suggest you to press F8 right before booting into windows, and select 'Use last known good config'.
This issue sound really hopeless, but if you could manage to boot into any windows which is on another partition (if you have any), you could rebuild the MBR manually (master boot record) which stores the OS information.
Do you have another disk/partition?
If yes, the best would be to install W7 on it (takes 20mins) do the above things (I will explain it further if you have another partition) and then boot back into your original OS and would be able to delete the 'blank' windows 7 installation files from the orher partition.

Hi friends, I'm using Dell Studio 1558 and recently bought an original battery online and I dont know the authenticity of that battery. Also before changing the battery, I had a hard disk crash and changed a new hard disk.
Now at times, I'm getting amber and white light flashing. Its getting corrected if I restart the system.
Can anyone let me know the meaning of this flashing amber and white lighting?

A:Amber and White light blinking. What is the meaning of that signal?

" recently bought an original battery online and I dont know the authenticity of that battery "

It's a possibility the flashing amber/white light means battery is low and isn't being charge. I like to suggest you check the status of the battery and AC adapter in the BIOS.
1. Power off computer, and then make sure AC adapter is connected to computer well
2. Power on computer, quickly start tapping the F2 key continuously, you should be in the BIOS screen.

Under the main screen, look for the AC adapter type. If the adapter says None or Unknown then it's an issue with the adapter. Suggest you replace AC adapter.
Under the Advanced screen, look for Battery Health, it should say "This Battery Is Performing Normally". If there's any other message, it could mean that the battery is faulty and needs replacement.

Note: If you indeed need replacement, please get a new genuine Dell battery that comparable with your system.

My computer, which was running windows 10 without much issue, is now completely unusable for reasons beyond my comprehension. After bios messages I now only have a blinking white dash on a black screen.

I have tried various repairs, with the windows recovery usb. All automatic repairs fail due to the disk "being locked", so i have tried a few guides which involved bcdboot commands which have failed to fix anything. One command was bcdboot g: which gave an error like failed copying boot files (i forget the exact wording) .

Could some kind soul point me towards a fix, im tearing my hair out! Many thanks!

Hi everybody,
First of all, sorry about my English.
Few days ago, I was working on my laptop (ASUS X5DI) and when I decide shuting down, I realize that needs to intall updates. I let him to shut down by itself and do it fine without any problems.
Next day, when I turn on the computer again, the show me this (its spanish but i think you'll know what screen is):

I thought then, that something in the update process went wrong, so I try to fix it. First, I tried it by click on the "Repair Startup" option in that image menu. A message box that wants to select a keyboard language appeared but after that and some comprobations of the process, It said to me with an alert box that it couldn't be possible:

Then..  this other screen appeared:

I click on the options, even in the prompt option, and tried to fix it with bootrec commands like /fixboot or /fixmbr but nothing fix the problem.
So... What I decided? the solution that "never fail" ... format all my pc again and get a "new" computer hahaha..
I get into the BIOS and change the boot order to start from CD/DVD. Save changes, introduce the Windows 7 disc and restart.
I realized that my computer cant start from cd/dvd because that white blinking cursor appears on the top left of the screen.
I tried with different CD/DVD even Ubuntu CD and always the blink cursor appears. So... if I use HDD boot in BIOS appears the screen on the top... Read more

Hey there I was just about to install a Folio 1040 with our SW distribution tool. As it was booting already, I pushed the Power button for 10 seconds to shut it down. Now, the small Power LED next to the power plug is blinking white and amber constantly and I cannot turn the Folio on again. Hi all, I am back with yet another problem on my laptop computer. Same computer as my last problem, a HP Pavilion dm4-1160 with Windows 7 OS. This time, the problem that I am experiencing is very similar to this one:
Unfortunately, the post that I have linked is no longer applicable (to me), because the person in that post decided to reinstall his/her OS.
Whenever my computer starts up, it is automatically directed to a blank, black screen save for a blinking white cursor on the top-middle of the screen. The Windows logo animation screen does not even appear, it just skips to the aforementioned black screen. I have so far waited about 12 hours for something to happen, and of course nothing happens. I am not redirected to Startup Repair or anywhere else after any reboot.
I recall that prior to this, while I was trying to organise some of my files, my computer suddenly decided to close all programs and shut down on its own for no conspicuous reason.
Once again, system restore points do not work, and I am unable to use Safe Mode or any of its variations, because the computer won't let me do so. Malwarebytes and Spybot are my antivirus programs installed, and the solution of reinstalling the OS itself is off-limits to me because I am unwilling to see the extinction of all of my personal stuff.

A:Windows 7 frozen black screen with white blinking cursor

I apologise, I just realised that I forgot to note that I am unable to provide a FRST.txt log for the computer this time because I am unable to get into Advanced Boot Options. No matter how quickly and repetitively I tap the F8 key, the black screen always manages to come first. I should also note that the white blinking cursor starts off from the top-left corner, then dashes to the top-middle after about a second passes. So consequently, I am unable to get into System Recovery Options and run any program through Command Prompt.
I still await any possible instructions. Again, I apologise if I sound impatient.
