Hello to the BleepingComputer community,First of all I'm sorry I haven't finished some of the steps from the Preparation Guide. It's because these steps require a reboot (e.g. Step 6: Disable your CD Emulation Software - DeFogger will ask me to reboot the machine), and I have a bad feeling about the question if it is safe to reboot in my situation: I'm not sure if I have a type of malware which is ready to infect the BIOS - if it is so, then it could infect it much easier during the reboot process.- If there is a good way to find out what is the problem (and fix the BIOS threat part if it really is present) without rebooting / shutting down this PC, or at least without booting from this hard drive (which I feel is probably infected), then please tell me what should I do.- If you know a place / forum where I can get a specialized help for this (seemingly BIOS-malware related) situation, please tell me where I could go.- If there is no way to move forward, I'll go ahead and risk the reboot, and follow the other steps (steps 6 to 10) in the Preparation Guide, no problem.I kindly ask you to please read below the details of the problem as it occured to me, and the things I have tried so far.The PC is AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core BE-2350 2.1GHz, Motherboard Biostar TA690G AM2 (with AWARD BIOS), 4GB RAM, 200GB SATA HDD, and an ASUS EAH4870 card added a few years ago. It's with WinXP SP3, AVG Free 2012, (standard) Windows Firewall, and it's behind a router.I ... Hi,

I know this is is quite old computer, but until now it was just enough good for my usage.
Anyway, after I have done a recovery of the Windows Vista OS that came with my computer, I got a notification from one of Toshiba tools that there is an updated BIOS available for my computer.
I've downloaded it and tried to perform an update. After the process had (probably) finished, the computer did not react to touchpad and keyboard. I was not sure if the update was really successful, especially because it looked like the computer was is frozen state. So I left it for next +/- 30 minutes but no change.
Then I decided to reset it as even the power button was not working. So I had to remove the battery and unplug the AC power.

... and the computer was (almost) dead then.

Now it is so that when I press the power button it seems to power up, but the screen remains blank, the fan is working and Windows is not booting. It just makes one short scratching noise from the DVD drive and this is all.

My question is, what is the recovery procedure in my situation ? I've tried to look for some potential help on the Internet and I found some forum posts or articles stating that there are some recovery procedures for different BIOSes, but what is the procedure for my BIOS ? The only thing that I found "working" was that if I press the power button holding Fn+Esc keys, the laptop powers on with flashing power button. But how to force BIOS recovery flashing procedure ?

Hope I put this in the right place. Here goes...
So I updated my bios today from 1.7 to 1.A. When the system restarted it goes to Windows 7 with a black screen that says "C:\windows\system32\config\systemprofile\desktop Refers to a location that is unavailable". From here I have all of the basic buttons but I cannot access anything. I get an error even trying to run regedit. My system ran fine before the bios update. The system setup is as follows:
50GB SSD with Windows 7 installed only
4x 500GB HDD in Raid0 with all user profiles and default save locations set to it.
2x External drives (not to important here just run Ubuntu and a spare drive)

When I set the system up I changed all of the registry settings so that windows automatically saved everything to the Raid0 drive. Everything is still on the drive as it has been unchanged but Windows fails to find the desktop settings now. How can I change this? I CANNOT lose any of the files so a wipe and rebuild are out of the question. I'm lost here fellas and could really use your guidance. Thanks in advance.
Edit: When I looked in the system profile folder there was no "desktop" folder there. I manually created one and got some of my shortcuts on the desktop back but everything is still missing. At system launch I edited all registry settings to point to drive D: as the primary. Maybe something changed there?

Hi,

Is this a hardware RAID0? If so, then check your updated BIOS to make sure it is still configured to use the RAID controller.

Hello, i have a really annoying problem: Everytime i start my laptop, it wont boot up. The capslock button is blinking twice so i guess the bios is damaged. First i checked if there is a update for my bios on you driver/software download page but there isnt. So afterward i tried to recover and reinstall my bios but i cant even enter the bios update menu.In the bios recovery manual http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02693833 it says:With the computer off, press and hold the Windows logo key and the B key at the same time.Still pressing those keys, press and hold down the Power button on the computer for 1 to 2 seconds, and then release the Power button but continue to hold the Windows and B keys until the BIOS update screen is displayed or until you hear a beeping sound (usually 8 beeps). But this isnt working. It only blinks twice continiously but wont boot. Can anyone help me? I cant find further information regarding this issue. I start to get really really annoyed by the problem because sometimes it takes up to 15-20 times to get the laptop running. Best Regards

I wondering what Crisis Recovery Disk do you have ?:|
In my experience the special disk is needed which is available only for ASP technician.
Therefore it?s necessary to contact the ASP in your country in order to reflash the BIOS.

In my opinion you shouldn?t not try any ?Crisis Recovery disks? which you fond in the net? this can lead to mobo damage?

My Samsung series 3 laptop has been sending out popup messages telling me I need a bios update, I go to the Samsung software update site and this bios update has been failing, I have made several calls and chats to techs at Samsung who tell me to do what I have already done, they tell to ask for tier 2 tech, who can go in my computer and fix it , When I finally got a tier 2 tech, they told me the same thing, I told him what I had been told about him and what he could do, He said, is it working , I said yes, but settings on computer change on their own, like wifi turns itself on and that concerns me. Anyway, He said that it didn't need a bios update, even the Samsung website said this computer needed a bios update. I posted this on hardware, firmware concerns, and they told me to post here, I was going to go to a site ,that had a download that checked drivers, I was told to stay away from this.

Hello everyone! I ama new user and i am coming up with this post as I couldn`t find any kind of solution for my problem.Recently I decided to do a reinstallation of my operating system, which also previously was Windows 7 Ultimate (x64). The installation went as usual, and after finishing it I went on to install all the latest drivers from the Lenovo site, for my product. When getting close to installing almost all the drivers i`ve needed, i stumbled upon a new version of the BIOS amnd the drivers and sfotware recommended for my laptop, by the producer. So i proceeded to install the upgrade, restarted the computer when it prompted me to do so, but after the so-called restart the laptop did not boot up as usual. At first it was telling me to not do anything as the BIOS is being flashed and then it was telling me something about some sort of image processing, things that i did not understand at the time (i have never encountered anything like that). After that my screen turned black. I have not done anything for a few couple of minutes as i thought it was supposed to be like that, but then i just force shut it down and unplugged the AC adapter. When trying to boot it all up again, the only thing i got was a black screen and nothing else. After doing a little bit of research it appears that, somehowm i`ve managed to corrupt the bios on my laptop or something, and nothing else would work at this point. I tried to remove the BIOS battery and the ram and then put them all back, trye... Read more

Hi,

I have a old Tecra 9100 with years of good service, and this is my first problem, but is a great one, after a forced reboot the screen shows a BIOS block 1 damaged message. I have tried to repair the BIOS upgrading to the last version I have found, the 1.6 one, but its a Windows version (to upgrade from a running Toshiba computer I think) and when I try to run it in another computer to generate a FDD and upgrade BIOS, I cant, beacuse a Toshiba common modules message.

Its there any BIOS diskette image-archive I can dowload to perform the BIOS upgrade in the BIOS?

Thanks in advance.

All you can find is stuff on Toshiba support page. I don't know where you live but try to contact nearest Toshiba authorized service provider.
They have access to Toshiba database and they can obtain all this for you. Make a call and ask for help. I am pretty sure they will help you to solve this BIOS issue.

Dear all, Since the beginning I got troubles with charging - ( 94 % plugged in, not charging). The easiest solution was just remove the battery, but not for HP Omen. I removed battery and destroyed the rubber on the bottom. I had to open the laptop, because one morning I got the massegae that my laptop is overheated and fan does not work properly. Both fans works only during the lounch, when windows works only one fan was in operations, second one never starts again. Looking for the solution in the internet I have found that this can be because of BIOS is not updated.  I pushed F2, checked the the system, everything is fine and then I installed only one version which I have found there. No massages regarding overheating any more, both Fans are working full power and very very loud. Temperature of processors is 30C. In my room 25C.  I followed all instructions, but got massege BIOS update is blocked.I downloaded the most previous version, again BIOS update is blocked.Current version of bios is BIOS version F00 04Sep14.  Can it be solved somehow?

Hello all, this is my first time posting here so please forgive any mistakes/oversights. I've just updated my Samsung laptop's system BIOS via their software update program, and my Nvidia GPU (GT 650m DDR3) no longer seems to work. The Nvidia control panel is still there, and it still gives me the option to select which programs use the GPU, but there is no GPU actitivity showing up. Also,I've tried playing Skyrim (which auto-detects the PC's graphics cards) , and the game no longer seems to detect the Nvidia GPU (just the Intel integrated graphics).

My laptop model is NP550PC7, with 6 gig of ram, and an i7 quad core CPU, and the OS is Window 7 Home Premium 64bit.

I've tried looking in the BIOS but I can't seem to find anything related to the GPU or display options. Any help or avice is much appreciated.

Hi,

Have you updated your GPU with the latest drivers?

http://www.geforce.co.uk/drivers

Please navigate to:

Start> Control panel> Swith to icon view> device manager.
Look under "Display Adapters"

Is the Nvidia GPU listed there? If so are there any yellow symbols etc?

Hello,
I recently attempted to update my BIOS (Gigabyte F8 to F10) so that I could upgrade my CPU from a sandy bridge to an ivy bridge. I did not do the cpu upgrade, yet, just the BIOS flash. The flash, using Gigabyte's q-flash) went fine, according to the flash results screen. I then rebooted, and the computer when into the Startup Repair Infinite Loop; it goes through POST, and then says "Windows is Starting" and the animated Windows logo (where the four colored window panes fly at you and then pulse/glow while the OS loads) begins, but then freezes just a moment after it starts. The system then goes into the repair loop.

The first thing I did was to re-flash back to F8. That did nothing though. But just FYI, my BIOS is back at F8.

I have tried the recovery method from the tutorials section, but I'm stuck and posting in that thread has not yielded any replies. So, I'm posting here.
Before I even get to the editing of the registry, I'm stuck in that a "DIR" command on my c-drive shows "File Not Found." Not sure what to do from here.
Thanks for any tips, advice, explanations, etc.!!
Kieran

A:startup repair infinite loop after BIOS update, recovery not working

Confirm the Partition Marked Active is 100mb System Reserved (if you have it) or Win7 partition (if you don't).

Then run Startup Repair - Run 3 Separate Times until Win7 starts.

If this fails boot into System Recovery Options to System Restore backward until you find a working configuration.

The BIOS update failed and left the computer with no working BIOS. F2 is dead. It will not boot.
I am pretty sure that there is a backup or primitive BIOS still in there, as when I start the machine with no battery and just AC power using the End key it continuously tries to read data from a 2GB flash drive. I assume that it would like to reload the BIOS from a file.

I know how to get the ROM contents from the above file using the /writeromfile parameter.

The big question is, what kind of file does the 3500 want to read, and what is the file name that it is looking for? Does the flash drive need to be bootable? Is this an AMI or Phoenix BIOS?

Can someone please help?

Thanks,

I am trying to install a gtx 770 graphics card on my computer but it is consistently getting stuck on the first hp screen and then just freezes.  I researched it and saw that it could be a bios incompatibility and someone mentioned that updating the bios to version 8 might fix the problem however the update does not appear on the hp website.

I have a five-month old HP Compaq Presario Laptop, which has been working fairly decently (I've had a few virus scares, and my Norton quarrentined something a twenty days ago). On HP's advice, I just updated the BIOS on my laptop. It's currently stuck at Verifying New Bios Image, and it's at 100% - It's been stuck that way for a half-hour plus. Any advice? What should I do?

Made the huge mistake of updating BIOS. Had small MOBO usb prob, and for some reason thought a BIOS update would do something. Wasn't too worried because Gigabyte touts Dual BIOS pretty strong.

Anyway, tried updating BIOS, then system would not boot, so the Backup BIOS didn't kick in. btw, the MOBO is a Gigabyte GA-K8N Pro.

So I copied the backup bios to a floppy and used the floppy to fix the main bios. OK, now computer would boot, but would freeze up after the desktop icons appear. Actually would sometimes work for a few minutes, but always froze up.

Boots OK to safe mode, even to the point of getting online, so I downloaded the old bios from Gigabyte, put them on floppy and used that to update the main bios. Same result.

Also did a system restore from XP Pro Safe Mode (because XP wrongly states that this can be undone; didn't find out that System Restore done from safe mode cannot be undone until I tried to undo!).

My tech support (ABS Computer; they rule) thinks that the BIOS is now fine, that some windows files are corrupt and a re-install will fix problem and mobo is probably fine as well. I'll buy that.

anyone have any miracle suggestions before i re-install? Is a repair install worth a shot? Really not looking forward to re-installing all my software and putting all my data back where it belongs to get my email hist., bookmarks, etc. back.

thanks - I will now write the following 500 times: LEAVE THE BIOS ALONE! even with Dual BIOS

Hi, I found on HP pages update for BIOS for my computer so I decided to use it. My previous BIOS version was from July 2015.I have done this, because this computer was shutting off when i was playing games. So I hoped, that this could help, because I already downloaded all other driver updates, but nothing helped. I have BIOS ROM Family SSID 2B4B version and I had a version A0.04 Driver I downloaded:(http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-envy-phoenix-860-000-desktop-pc-series/8499708/mo...). After the instalation PC got stuck on HP Omen logo (weird) and nothing happens for 1 hour. When I used recovery of BIOS (win+b) it happens again. What I should do? Thank you

I am preparing to upgrade from Win 8.1 to Win 10. According to the HP Support site the BIOS should be upgraded before upgrading to Win 10. The BIOS currently installed as reported by msinfo32 is "AMI 80.16, 05/12/2013".  According to the HP Support site page for my product, the latest HP Consumer Desktop PC BIOS Update (ROM Family SSID 2AF3) software available is sp72302.exe Version 80.24 Rev A, Aug 3 2015. I temporarily disabled my Antivirus (Norton Security), and exited ZoneAlarm Firewall Free, and then attempted to download and install this new BIOS version using "HP Download and Install Assisstant (Recommended)". The download part suceeded, and a cmd window launched, and all operations displayed within it appeared to proceed without error. After the cmd window closed, the remaining dialogue window indicated that the BIOS update was also successful. No automatic reboot occurred so I then closed that dialogue and manually rebooted. After logging in again and re-running msinfo32, the BIOS version reported is unchanged at "AMI 80.16, 05/12/2013". To double check I rebooted and used F10 to enter the BIOS. At that level in System Information, the BIOS version is reported as "KAI v80.16 12/05/2013", so it seems that the BIOS update to the new v80.24 Rev A in fact did NOT succeed. What do I need to do to successfully update the BIOS to Version 80.24 Rev A?

When I try to flash my BIOS from the downloaded update file, I get the error message in the subject. I am starting everything with Admin privileges, but that makes no difference. If it's a Lenovo machine with stock BIOS, why am I getting an "unknown vendor" message? Inquiring minds want to know  TIA!

Hi, I saw the new BIOS version 1.25 dated ?14?.?09?.?2016 appearing on Lenovos support site. I did not check the version I was having on my system before downloading the "new BIOS", so I started the installer and the tool told me I already have this BIOS version. msinfo32.exe tells me I am having BIOS 1.25 dated 13.07.2016. So apparently the BIOS was released already some time ago and I already flashed it to 1.25. So whats the point of re-releasing the 1.25? If there are any changes of todays version compared to the 1.25 released some time ago, is it worth flashing? If yes, how can I do this if the tool tells me I am already having the latest version and it does not let me override my BIOS? Thanks and best regards,Martin

I built a new pc and I dont want to read the bios info everytime I boot, even though I have quick boot enabled (it only shows the bios info flashing by pretty quickly) but I dont want to see it at all. I'd rather put another page up to look at like the Dell, How do I do that and is there any articles or info on the net I can read telling me how? Thanks!

You have to merge the image you want to show to a BIOS image and then flash your BIOS with it.

Something like this maybe?

I am trying to get my system to reconize my new 60gig IBM HDD. It will show 61 in the bios (with incorrect cylinders, heads ect) but only 8.4 after boot up. After searching this site (by the way is great) I have come to realize that I either need to update my bios or attemp to use a "overlay" program. It's all new to me but I have contacted Award Bios for an evaluation on wich update I need (still waiting back from them). I have been looking at EZ-Disc for $19 from there site and it look like it could be a fix also. My main question (s) are should I go with the update or EZ? Does Award charge for the updates? Is this actually a fix? I did a Belarc Advisor profile and come up with this- System Model (I'm not sure what this means) VIA Tech. VT82C692BX, Main Circ. Board 693-596-ITE8661. When I ran the bios update utillity, my computer locked up. none of the buttons would work, nor the keyboard. Everything was unresponsive, and not like a normal software hang either. So, I waited for a half hour to see what would happen, and nothing happend. I eventually removed the battery to turn off the computer and restart. Only problem is, my computer won't restart. As a matter of fact it doesn't do anything. No lights, no sounds, not even a battery charger light. Just got this laptop, and its having issues. Under the battery it says its a 1167dx, but bios/system info states its a G6 1028sr. It has the AMD 1.8 quad core like the G7 should as well as the radeon HD-4200. Only found the issue chasing down a black screen issue. Sometimes it will just flip to a black screeen, and freeze. Resulting in having to be powered down. Fresh install of windows has not fixed the issue. Went directly to AMD for graphics drivers and control catylst. Did a bios update to the latest version provided on the 1167dx support site, and it still has the wrong information as well as black screening when playing video. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

Hello, you're really limited as to what your options are here. You can try calling HP and see if they can walk you through doing a crisis recovery sort of thing. It will entail a key combination that will enable the Boot Block portion of the BIOS chip (if it has one)

I went through this last month with my DV9000 model. I searched the web for a few weeks looking for some kind of solution. I ended up sending it to aqstech a repair shop in NY for a BIOS rescue service.

PS, the repair cost me $99 + shipping.

Until I flashed the BIOS a couple weeks ago, it ran just fine.I flashed with version F.32, to make sure a new dual-core CPU--to replace the original deCeleron--would be recognized by the BIOS. I ended up with a Pentium Mobile T3400, which runs a bit hot, but much faster. The first CPU I bought, though, was a Core 2 Duo T5800, and would not boot at all. I then flashed to a later version, F.65, to see if that was the problem. Nope, turns out it was a bad CPU.The F.32 BIOS version, seems to have problems. Release notes for the next release, F.36, state the newer version . And, indeed, the laptop is stuck in "BIOS vF.32", even though I flashed it with F.65.I have now flashed it with every later version I can find. Not very many, because HP seems to throw away older versions. Can't say I blame 'em, with clunkers like F.32 out there...I've flashed the BIOS in Vista, with the Insyde Flash contained in the Softpaq, and it terminates oddly every time, hanging Vista, not restarting like it's supposed to. First time I ran it with F.32, it worked fine.I've also flashed it using the "Winkey+B" method, and something definitely happens, including the most extraordinary assortment of loud beeps I've ever heard, but it remains in F.32... Hi all,After successful upgrade to newest BIOS, my z710 won't turn on...Only black screen, diodes flash (num lock not responding) and nothing more...So I applied basic tips for this problem...battery off, AC off, pressing ON/OFF button for 30sec, remove and switch the memory...nothing really helped me, but something strange happened with no specific reason, the recovery button initialized booting menu (after maybe 15 attempts) and this was safe me, and once after that...but no more. I tried to turn on like 30 times for second time...sixty times now, but nothing.Phoenixtool told me, that my recovery BIOS file name for insydeH2O should be "FCNX64.f?" and "platform.ini" says it doesn't matter...So I made fat32 usb stick and now I am trying to load:Z710X64_6M.fdZ710X64_6M.romZ710X64_6M.binFCNX64.fdFCNX64.romFCNX64.binBIOS.fdBIOS.romBIOS.bin20250.fd20250.rom20250.binBut my USB stick not blinking at all, so maybe I tried bad combination... WIN(/fn)+R, WIN(/fn)+B, WIN(/fn)+F, WIN(/fn)+ESC... Anybody knows the right combination for this? Or my motherboard is really totaly dead? Pls help, I am desperate...

OK here is my problem, and ill try and have as little redundancy as possible

My computer out of the blue decided that I didn't want to boot with my C: drive any more... (yes i know i should make regular backups, but if i did, i wouldnt be here, now would I?)

ok first, with the old HDD:
i have my bios set to a floppy-cd-hdd boot order
so after it checks for any bootable cds, it stops and says "a disc read error has occured, press ctrl-alt-del to restart"
so i cannot get to the F8 menu...
if i boot with the in xp disc and go to repair... it wont let me login to the install of windows, so i cant move files anywhere
if i boot with an xp floppy, it says hal.dll is missing/corrupt so cannot boot, which i would replace, but for me not being able to move files in repair mode.

having no probs with new hdd that i installed xp pro on, fresh new install, upgraded all and stuff, and in windows, it will not see the old hdd.
bios recognizes it, and all pre-windows boot stuff recognize it... so i know the physical hdd isnt bad... i can see data in recovery mode, just cant DO anything with it...

i basically only care about two folders on the old HDD, and would like to recover those if at all possible

i was wondering if anyone had ANY ideas of what i can do to get my files back.

please keep in mind that I have ZERO extra money... so anything that is free, and non-destructive to the data would be helpful. Telling me to go to a recovery company would not... Read more

A:HDD recovery, can't boot, is seen in bios, not in win xp Help please!

after you put the xp disc in
and do fresh boot up
make sure you have bios set to boot from cd first
when screen comes up asking what you want to do don't repair from here
if you have sata drive load the drives here then wait till xp finds the older OS here is where you tell it to repair
I do a small hdd repair service and this seems to be the most confusing part of W$K and XP_eration.
on the other hand you did not say if you tried to change boot order to boot from hdd first
it could be cd rom drive is bad

This computer is second hand, I'm just letting you know right off the bat. I don't know what the BIOS password is, and I need to get to setup. I managed to determine my BIOSis from AMI, and here's what the AMI Utility got for me:

An AMIBIOS ID String Was Detected:

62-0510-009999-00101111-071595-000000
- ---- ------ ------
| | | |
| | | Chipset/BIOS Info
| | BIOS Build Date
| Manufacturer ID
BIOS ROM Information

AMIBIOS ROM Size: 256 KB
BIOS Build Date: Jul 15 1995
Motherboard Manufacturer Code: 9999Not listed in MAN.DAT file
AMIBIOS Build Tag: M758LMRE

SMBIOS info:

Manufacturer : PCCHIPS
Product Name : M758LMR
Version : 1.0
Serial Number: 00000000

Any ideas as to what I should do now? Any kind of software that can tell me what the password actually is? I know I can take out the battery, but I don't have the means to do so. Any help is much appreciated.

Hello there, Some relatives came to me with a "bricked" E5-571G (black screen, will turn off after 5-6s). This happens after the computer went to sleep mode. After some "usual" tests I've done some extensive searchs in google (maybe not extensive enought...) and found out that is some "common" issue (at least few others had the issue, not specific to this model). I found some info about booting into recovery (FN+ESC) with the bios file on an USB stick. The computer does react to FN+ESC (the fan is running full speed, and computer stays awake a bit longer, like ~10s), but the bios does not seem to flash... The usb stick flashes once, and computer just shutdown shortly after. I'm missing two crucial information :- format the USB stick with FAT or FAT32 ? (or something else ?). some say FAT, some say FAT32.. not sure this has a real impact in fact...- what should be the filename of the BIOS file ? I found out on some othe threads for some other models that this is a key point, and the filename HAS TO BE set to something different than the "BDW.fd" from the downloaded BIOS package. Before going to a Motherboard replacement, that would be a shame as it seems this one is "only" missing a proper bios to boot up, I would like to really try all possible solutions. (and considering I could not find an exact board replacement at reasonable price = less than 2/3 of the price of the laptop, even for used boards!) thx.Manu

My customer did a windows update then lost front usb ports.  After a reboot the system would loop with a message that windows is being repaired.  When I attempted to get to recovery and rollback changes, the video quit working, the mouse blinks once at startup, fans work and it is still looping restart. I looked into clearing bios but the documentation is incorrect. I noticed the recry jumper found out it's recovery crysis, but can't find any info.  Any ideas?

I Recently purchased an ECS 915G-A motherboard. It worked fine at first but I had some hang-up problems and cpu temp reading problems, so I went to the ecs website and saw that they had a bios upgrade to solve these issues. I followed all instructions to a tee, but after flashing, the board won't post. I have power to everything but no POST and no beeps. after some extensive research, I learned that to recover the bootblock of an amibios chip, one should download the latest version of the bios update (*****.ROM), change the title to AMIBOOT.ROM, copy it to a floppy and insert it into the drive, power up, wait 3 to 5 minutes, hear 4 beeps, and all is well. I have now tried this with 5 differnt bios upgrade versions for that board... the latest two run for about 30 sec. then quit, and the three before that run forever in a loop. I have cleared the cmos using the jumper and through removing the battery before each trial, with still no luck. Please help...

Thank you

Obviously during the flashing of your bios, something has gone terribly wrong.

I fear that you may have to think in terms of a new mobo, unless of course your mobo manufacturer would be willing to let you have a new bios chip.

Contact you mobo manufacturer and see if there`s anything they can do for you.

I`m sorry if this isn`t of much help.

Good luck and regards Howard

During an attempt to update the BIOS from F.43 to F.49, the system did an uncommanded "POWER DOWN" in the middle of the erasing/writing opertion.  Needless to say the BIOS is now corrupted and system will not boot.  1.  Attempting to boot results in th CAPS LOCK and NUM LOCK LEDs blinking, indicative of a corrupted BIOS [expected considering the update failure].2.  Attempt to Restore the BIOS suing HP recommended  [Windows Logo] + "B" key sequence on power up not successful.3.  Attempt at creating a BIOS REcovery Flash Drive was unsuccessful.  I was able to copy the files to the flash drive using another computer, but ws not ble to finalize the creation of the flash drive as the process errors out and terminates immediately following transfer of the files.  I verified that the files are intact in the flash drive, but the required boot kernal is not resident.4.  When attempting to use the flash drive to recover the BIOS, I get CD/DVD activity, but the USB Flash drive is not identified as bootable by system, resulting in the same flashin CAPS LOCK and NUM LOCK LED indication. Any insight or  suggestions on what it takes to create a bootble recovery USB FlashDrive or CD/DVD for use with this system and the F.49 Bios [InsydeFlash] would be appreciated.

I'm not sure that the problem is BIOS related. First, see the link below from HP about troubleshooting/fixing display problems.

Greetings all! - my question, whats the easiest way to re-install the OS and Apps from an HP recovery cd, after the original hard drive (2.1gb) has been replaced by a new 20gb drive.?
HP Pav 8210, bios set auto - 8432mb, Samsung 20gb with Samsung DM ver 9 installed. boots to c:\ but (of course) recovery wont run from F10 command on bootup, due to drive overlay not been recognised by recovery disk - I dont think partioning the drive will help either in this instance. I have a 3-year-old laptop, HP Spectre XT Touchsmart 15-4010nr. I guess its Bios and internal Bios recovery have been corrupted, I see nothing but a black screen when I power up the computer. I need to create a Bios recovery USB disc and I need your help at this point. Here are what I have done so far : I formatted and named a USB disc HP_TOOLS and then installed HP UEFI support environment on it. ( sp62194.exe : http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp62001-62500/sp62194.exe  ) I downloaded the most recent Bios version compatible with my laptop. ( sp66790.exe : http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp66501-67000/sp66790.exe )  This .exe file cannot be run directly. I extracted it and two more .exe files appeared. (1886F12.exe and InsydeFlash.exe ). I extracted them, too. Their content looked exactly similar. There was a file named 01886.bin in both of them. I copied that file to \Hewlett-Packard\BIOS\Current on the disc.  Later I went on with the usual procedure. I connected the disc to the computer, pressed and held down Windows + B keys, pressed power button for 3 seconds, released it while still pressing Windows + B, waited for some time and nothing happened.   I may have done something wrong, I know. I will appreciate any help. One way or another, I must create that recovery disc.

So, I made the big mistake of wiping the HP:TOOLS partition on my hard drive, which I was wanting to use for something else. I now know that wiping the partition ended up wiping the BIOS as well. Now when I turn my computer on, the screen remains blank, except with a blinking dash in the upper left corner. I cannot boot into safe mode, but I can boot onto a disk or USB drive. I made a bootable USB drive with a linux system so I could access the hard drive and dump the my most important files onto an external drive. Now, I am trying to restore the BIOS. I downloaded the correct BIOS package for my computer (using another computer) and began following the instructions here. I first tried the whole using the windows and B key combo, but that didn't work. So I am trying to create a USB key with the BIOS recovery. The problem is that I haven't been able to successfully create it. Once I run the executable sp60655.exe, it takes me through the Install Shield Wizard and End User License Agreement dialogue boxes, but then it proceeds to extract the files without asking me where I would like to save the files, and it never gives me the option to install the bios files on the USB drive. Instead, it pops up with a couple of errors: "IHISI: Get support mode fail SMI" and "BIOS did not support Insyde Flash." Can anyone help me out with this? Thanks!
