Yoga 900 USB Type-C Connected to HDMI Disables Mou...

Q: Yoga 900 USB Type-C Connected to HDMI Disables Mou...

I fought this problem all day and I think I have it narrowed down. System is Lenovo Yoga 900 i7 with Windows 10 with all latest updates. Application is Citrix Receiver 4.5. When using Quickbooks with the Citrix Receiver, mouse clicks are disabled/not recognized. All keyboard inputs still work, the mouse arrow tracks correctly, but mouse clicks seem to be ignored. This behavior occurs when booting to dual monitor setup with HDMI adapter in the USB Type-C port; booting to single monitor (Yoga), then plugging the HDMIR adapter in the USB Type-C port. The only resolution is to boot to single monitor (Yoga) and work in single monitor mode exclusively. I am using the USB Type-C to HDMI adaptor purchased from Lenovo. This occurs with the Yoga trackpad AND occurs with my USB wireless mouse. Also note with native Windows applications, the mouse works fine with both monitors connected and active. I really bought the HDMI adaptor to use two monitor with the Citrix Receiver. I have tried to Google this problem, but I'm unable to find a Citrix Receiver support site/forum that would be appropriate for this question. Any advice appreciated.

I purchased an external monitor on Friday.  It worked on Friday and Saturday. Sunday when I booted up, the external monitor no longer worked. The history appears to show an automatic update occurred overnight.  I was running Windows 8.1.  I upgraded to 10.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled the intel video driver, I reinstalled the chipset driver.  I have trimmed the micro HDMI cord as suggested in one of the posts.  I have seen enough posts on the various boards to know my issue does not seem to be an isolated case... but I haven't been able to find an explanation of the cause or a reliable solution.  Any help is appreciated.

This sounds a lot like a prior thread about porblems with BIOS 1.08, but that thread ended up marked as solved, while for me the issue returned on the latest BIOS update to 1.12. My CPU temp got up to 92C without the fan coming on. Conclusion: there still seems to be some kind of condition where the BIOS completely disables all cooling. I think it's the same problem as that earlier thread, and it's clearly not solved. Thankfully it IS possible to get out of this state by rolling back the BIOS version to the one that worked, instructions are posted here and three posts below that for further clarification.  Symptoms: you start noticing that the TPY gets oddly hot during normal use, or it experiences a forced shutdown due to overheating. It's also completely quiet. But: the fan itself is operational because you hear it briefly spin up during cold boot.  Given that LoneSentry mentioned that the problematic BIOS 1.08 did work on second install, there seems to be some 'random' glitch in the update process or in the BIOS. Meanwhile I'm pretty unhappy that I'm having to do continued truobleshooting on this machine.   Edit: going to the BIOS update page I saw that a newer BIOS was available (1.13), which you can install without having to disable Secure Rollback. Lo and behold. the fan is working again. The fan started blowing full speed right at the start of the EC flashing procedure. This is NO... Read more

A:Thinkpad Yoga 12 BIOS update disables cooling fan

Yep. At revision 1.13 and this is still going on. I have to roll-back BIOS revisions and then roll-forward to get the fan to work again. I've nearly burned myself in tablet mode quite a few times now. I just updated to 1.14 so we'll see how that goes.

Hello, I'm having trouble starting my 260. Im using the hard drive decryption and therefore need to enter password before booting. Once in a while, the keyboard refuses to work directly After a restart. backlight comes up during the first second. But at the password screen it just doesn't respond. I have to plug in an external USB keyboard to enter the key. After that it starts and Boots into Windows where the internal keyboard is working again. I am suspecting the keyboard disabeling mechanism when you put it into Yoga mode, because the error seems to happen more often when the keykeyboard is folded away. Do you have any suggestions how to resolve the issue? Im on a business trip right know and can't use the Laptop anymore due to no avaliable keyboard. Best regards Martin

Hi,

Windows driver assignment disables Soundmax HD sound drivers for Asus X-FI Sound card, when a HDMI video cable is plugged in, and instead loads another for the screen speakers.
Unplugging the cable, and then do a "Scan for hardware changes" in device manager, still only finds the wrong one.
Video card is Ati HD5850 (that features sound streaming through HDMI)
Screen is Acer GD245HQ that has no build in speakers.
Sound drivers AD1988_AB_AUDIO_V6585 Win 7-64bit (that used to work)
Reinstalling the SoundMax drivers is not possible, as the installer can't find the X-FI card, any more.
Any idea how to fix this ?

A:HDMI Video connection disables soundcard

Breydel, welcome to the Seven Forums.

You left out one rather important bit of info from the specs you listed, the make and model of the motherboard. Judging from the fact that it is the SupremeFX X-Fi (which is not a X-Fi at all by the way; it also isn't an actual sound card but just a riser card that contains the onboard audio), it is an Asus motherboard.

Now with that said double check in the bios and make sure that the onboard audio is set to enabled and not auto if available, as it sounds like the bios is auto disabling the onboard when it detects the audio built into the video card.

P.S. If this only happens when using the HDMI connection on the video card and you are not sending audio to the monitor, then the quick and easy fix would be to use the DVI connection instead.

Hello everyone,I purchased a Lenovo Yoga 13 about 3 years ago. Everything was running smooth until recently. For some reason now that I want to watch a movie on my TV through a HDMI cable the notebook powers off. No image appears, just goes completely dark and turns off. I updated the drivers. I have tried many different televisions (both expensive high quality tvs and not so good one) and HDMI cables and still the problems persists. I even factory restored the notebook and still shut down when I connect the hdmi to the laptop.  Could it be a harware problem? Can I replace the HDMI port on the notebook?

When I connect a TV through HDMI the sound is not re-routed to the TV. The TV sound is also not appearing in the Playback Devices of the Sound  control panel in the bottom right corner. In order to make it worked I need to do the following :- Connect the HDMI cable and ensure the TV screen is displaying the laptop screen.- Put the Laptop on Sleep- Resume the laptop. in  90% of the case then the sound is re-routed to the tv but it is a bit of pain to do it every time. If it does not work I put the laptop to sleep again. Any idea how to make it worked all the time. It worked like a charm on my X1 1st generation. Thanks,Laurent

No HDMI Audio via TV. Hi,  Just purchased the Yoga, but first time use of the HDMI connector is a disappointment as the sound is not coming out of the TV.  I plug the HDMI cable in and see the picture (cloned) on the TV, but the audio(system sounds and playing video) is still coming out of the Yoga. In CP/Sounds/Playback I see "Realtek High Definition Audio" as the only device (with both of the right-click "Show ..." options selected). In Devman/Sounds, A & GC I see "Realteck High Definition Audio Device" but also "Intel(R) Display Audio". Could someone who has HDMI sound working tell me whether in their CP/Sounds/Playback they see more than just the Realtek entry, eg an Intel HDMI one too perhaps? And maybe the HDMI entry is only shown when the HDMI device is connected? I have read that it is the Intel driver that does the HDMI output, is that correct? Or any other advice that might help/fix please. Cheers

Does Lenovo sell a compatible docking station for the USB Type-C port? I am looking for a ethernet port, video port (HDMI & VGA) and multiple USB 3.0 ports on a dock that connects to the new USB Type-C port.

A:USB Type-C docking station for Yoga 900

As far as I know, Lenovo currently doesn't offer a USB Type C docking station for the Yoga 900. As you can't charge the Yoga 900 using the USB Type C port, you have to plug in two cables anyway. You might consider buying this adapter by Dell: http://www.amazon.com/Dell-Adapter-Type-Ethernet-470-ABQN/dp/B012DT6KW2 Unfortunately, it only has one USB 3.0 port, but it offers one HDMI, one VGA and one Ethernet port as desired.

I have a Yoga 11s that started having hdmi connection issues about a year ago and has recently quit connecting to an external monitor via HDMI completely. We tried upgrading to Windows 10 to see if that would overwrite any software issues - no luck. The HDMI port actually appears loose. I did an extensive search of the forum and found posts that recommended cutting down the rubber around the base of the hdmi cord - tried that and at least I had a little activitiy - in the upper right hand corner of the external monitor up popped a box that says DVI then VGA then HDMI - but then says No Signal. Tried the graphics card update recommended on a post from long time ago and a popup indicated I had a newer version already installed. I have taken it to a laptop repair place - said they couldn't get parts from Lenovo. I found an "authorized" Lenovo repair shop locally - when I called they said they only work on business machines Called Lenovo and they told me to take it to Best Buy - however since I purchased this directly from Lenovo, Best Buy said they can't work on it. I would rather not send it into Lenovo because they tried to charge my hubby hundreds of dollars when his 15 day brand new laptop quit working, claiming damage - luckily extensive pictures taken and dated prior to sending it in thwarted that attempt at extortion. Does anyone have any suggestions? Hey folks. Maybe you can help me? Bear in mind I know little about display outputs and conversion methods. I want to output the screen of my Lenovo Yoga 2 (II) to my old Dell 2005FPW monitor - http://www.cnet.com/uk/products/dell-2005fpw/specs/ I have done research online about this, but no clear instructions are available about what hardware I'm going to need to get this to work.  My old Dell 2005FPW monitor accepts DVI input. My Yoga 2 outputs HDMI via the mini-HDMI port. I know cables are available for mini-HDMI to DVI, but I have seen reports for other laptops (including Lenovo) and this monitor not working using this setup. Apparently in some cases you need a converting device of some kind. There are also reports of Lenovo mini-HDMI connections only allowing output to HDMI (i.e. you can't use a single cable to convert), is this true for the Yoga 2? If so I guess I would definitely need a device to convert the signal to DVI. Added to the confusion is talk of this monitor having problems with HDCP, whatever that is, and I can't find out if the Yoga 2 outputs that.  Phew. So in conclusion, can I get away with a simple mini-HDMI to DVI cable? If not, will it work if I use a device to convert the signal, and if so, can you recommend a cheap and simple device to do this that a novice like me can understand? Thanks very much for any help!

Hi I wonder if anyone else has had this problem, and more importantly if anyone else knows the solution? The ProblemIn the past few weeks, using the Lenovo-supplied mini HDMI to VGA adaptor has caused intermittent problems:-Immobilising the system so that the only thing that works is the mouse cursor (but icons on the desktop and within programs won't work)Causing a blue screen of deathBut on some occasions it works perfectlyWith the adaptor removed, everything is fine & stable apart from:-The system won't shut down correctly (it just hangs and says its shutting down but never does)The system won't go to sleep properly (power light remains on)The system won't "wake up" when the lid is openedWhen the problem first arose, it was just the system "freeze" issue, which fixed itself.  After trying to use the adaptor unsuccessfully a couple of days ago I had the blue screen of death and now have the additional "shut down" and "sleep" issues which don't seem to have gone away. I should mention as well that for some reason when I plugged in the HDMI-VGA lead at one point, the system crashed and took me to a BIOS screen rather than re-booting.  The system is now performing a disk scan on booting up, which it didn't before. This seems to be an issue caused by the HDMI-VGA adaptor, but how on earth this can have such an effect I really don't know.  I have ordered a replacement so that I can check this out. Right now I am in the process of check... Since I've installed Windows 10 on my ThinkPad Yoga S1 (20C0-S0AX00), I've never been able to get audio via HDMI working. In theory, it looks like it's all fine: ? In practice, however, no audio is transmitted via HDMI (I tried it with different monitors), and the video signal of any application trying to play audio over HDMI is stuttering ? as if it's trying to sync audio and video, but failing for some reason. As soon as the output device is changed, the video plays smoothly again. Changing the "Default Format" did not change anything. Currently, "16 bit, 48000 Hz (DVD quality)" is selected. A support ticket I opened quickly after upgrading to Windows 10 promised a driver update to fix this. A more recent ticket advised me to revert to the stock Windows 8.1 installation instead, which I refuse to do. Does anyone have an idea how to fix this issue?

A:ThinkPad Yoga S1 - No sound via HDMI on Windows 10

Hi

I have a different Thinkpad Yoga. Checking your issue I wonder if you would like to do some "trial and error" like:

1) Try a different HDMI cable, you never know.
2) Check the driver version of you Intel Display Audio. Here it is mine:
?
3) Just in case check the Lenovo Support site for your model and try updating the Intel Video and Realtek drivers just in case.

This is only that cames to my mind right now.

I just purchased this laptop, I like it alot.   Using the HDMI port and the mini-display port, can I have 3 displays?   The internal touch screen, and then also the moniitor on the HDMI port AND a different monitor on the mini-display port.   That would be 3 displays. I'm just getting into Microsoft Flight Simulator and it will support 3 videos and I want to have all 3 running to get the most from the application. I want to be sure that it isn't either/or on the HDMI and Mini-Display Port, but that I can use both/and. Thanks in advance. Paul

Been a little embarrassed at two client sites in the last couple of weeks when I've tried to share my screen using the USB type-C port with either DVI or HDMI. In both cases (but not with VGA - it works fine with VGA, usually) the system locks - no keyboard, no mouse, until I remove the cable from the USB port. I've tried this with several adaptors - DVI-DisplayPort-USBC; HDMI-DisplayPort-USBC (there are no "multi-adaptors" from TypeC to all output types - VGA, DVI and HDMI, but there are plenty of display port multi-adaptors, and there are TypeC to DisplayPort.) The system at my office is VGA - and it works just fine. When I try to plug the DVI cable into the multi-adaptor, though, it behaves exaclty like at client sites - machine lock up and then no DVI out on the secondary monitor. Same for HDMI at the office - machine locks up for several seconds, recovers and then no HDMI out. Can't really afford to buy three completely different adaptors (assuming they're even made) for all possible client possibilities. Please tell me what diagnostics i can perform to isolate the problem. To summarize:VGA->DisplayPort->TypeC works (most of the time - not in all instances)DVI>DisplayPort>C never works (locks up and then doesn't recognize seconndary monitorHDMI>DisplayPort>C - ditto with DVI Thanks.

Hi, I recently bought a Yoga 500-14ISK Laptop (ideapad) - Machine Type 80R5 and have used it extremely rarely. I would say I've used it at a maximum of 30-40 hours. I have had some problems with the laptop but nothing that made it completely un-usable until now. On turning on the machine, the network wireless adapter acts strangely, often showing the airplane mode symbol in the task bar. I may or may not be able to connect to my Wifi network but less than 2 minutes later the entire Wifi adapter disappears from the OS, no longer having Wifi settings or being able to configure the Adapter via device manager. I've been told a fix for this may be turning the wireless off and on again via the BIOS but I can't figure out how I access it, considering the first screen I see is the loading symbol for Windows 10. Anyone got any advice? Harrison

I don't know about the TP Yoga 12, I have a TP Yoga 14.

I noticed that while you are typing you can move the trackpoint without issues, but the trackpad remains freeze while you type. I really do not know the reassson. But in my case the delay is very quick , it less then one second when I stop typing and the cursor with start moving (with the trackpad).

I'm not sure about the TP Yoga 12, but maybe you can check for a driver update on the support site of your model.  Does your computer has the Synaptics mouse? Check which driver version do you have installed and which is the lastest one.

I'm not sure if it will help but you can give it a try.

I must insert a paperclip into the reset hole and restart to be able to get the keyboard working and be able to enter the password.  I'm wondering if anyone else have any similar issue and if so, if there is a simple way to fix it? or if I should return the X1 Yoga?  Thanks for your help,Steven

My mini HDMI output has stopped working. No video no sound on the external screen. I've updated everything- Windows, Intel Graphics drivers, all the critical updates on the Lenovo companion app but still no luck. The computer doesn't even seem to recognise that the output is connected (the little sound that plays when the cable is plugged in doesn't play). I have tested the cable and monitor on another lenovo device and all works fine.  Frustratingly the output seems to work when connected via the Thinkpad Dock.  Also of note: the advanced display settings no longer takes me to the desktop verison of the application. Even if I go through the control panel, but takes me to the basic windows 10 interface, Anybody have any ideas- I really need to be able to project from my computer

I have a Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro hooked to a Think Pad 3.0 Dock and use two external Dell Monitors.  Everything worked fine for quite awhile, then one day while working the external monitors stopped and are no longer identified or detected.   I replaced all of the cables and insured all of the drivers are up-to-date.  I also confirmed that both monitors still work on another computer.  I borrowed another Think Pad Dock to see if the dock may have fried, but the new one does not work either.Any suggestions?  Thanks.

Hey Guys, i?m using a ThinkPad OneLink Pro Dock in combination with a Thinkpad Yoga 14. This has been working for weeks without problems. Then i used the Displayport to connect a second monitor and the problems started. Since then, i?m not able to start the notebook when it is connected to the dock (neither via the power button on the dock or the notebook). The Notebook somehow starts but the display stays black (but the backlight is on). When i?m connecting the dock when the laptop is already powered on everything works totally fine. I already tried:Updating the docks firmwareUpdating the notebooks bios versionUpdated all necessary drivers & reinstalled them a few timesRe-installed Windows 10Updated whole system using the lenovo update toolDisconnected all devices from dock except one monitor (connected via DP)Is there anything else i can try? Or may the dock be damaged?  With best regards & thanks for your help, Michael

Hello, My P40 Yoga does not boot up (locks at 'Lenovo' startup screen) when connected to the OneLink dock with an ethernet cable connected. If I disconnect the ethernet cable and then reboot, it boots up fine. Been trying to debug this for weeks without success. Tried changing boot order in BIOS (prioritizing SSD), disabling secure boot, enabling legacy boot, disabling LAN boot, etc. noting seems to work. Any guidance to address this issue will be very much appreciated. Thanks for your help. Milind

Hello everyone!

First of all i would like to thank everyone for the answers and help you share and i am new to this forum. I tried to search before making this thread but i havent found any answer that could help me.

I just bought 2 LCD monitors ( Acer and Asus) they all work perfectly But i have a problem, a huge one. The Asus monitor refuses to work when the VGA (acer) is connected and vice versa.

The Asus is a 23" LCD monitor, its connected via HDMI.
The Acer is a 18,5" LCD monitor, its connected via VGA.
My laptop is an Acer 7736, 2,20 GHZ, 4 GB RAM, 1GB graphic card from ATI Radeon.
So i beg you please to help me, i have tried everything possible, been trying for the last 7 hours and i even downloaded Ultramon but it doenst work either.

I only want them to work in same time, what can i do?

Here is the link, i even tried updating the drivers on the graphic card but nothing works.
Thanks in advance!!!

A:HDMI trouble when VGA connected

A lot of laptops do not have the ability to go to more than two monitors (Edit: this is including laptop as monitor). You can probably have both work if you close your laptop lid, otherwise, only the laptop and VGA or laptop and HDMI will work. (Edit: if you close laptop lid, the two monitors VGA and HDMI will work but only with laptop monitor closed)

I think there is a piece of hardware you can purchase that can turn a USB port into and external display adapter, but I don't know if it was GFX card specific or if your card needs or supports a particular piece.

My laptop suffers from this as well. I tried it and confirmed it after seeing issue on this forum a few weeks ago.

I have a HP Pavilion dv4-1435dx laptop. TV is Dynex LCD (one of those no name brand ones ) I checked the drivers on the laptop, they all seem to be up to date. However when I go to Control panel-Sound-Manage audio devices, there is no icon with an HDMI label to select for playback device. How do I add the driver for HDMI (to select)?

I have scanned (and tried) numerous suggestions on this type of a problem on different sites on the web (including this one, under a different thread)

Any suggestions, other than try a new cable?
Thank you in advance.

First of all sorry if it's not that Windows related!
So the problem is that my LCD TV has a scrambled picture when my computer is turned on and connected to the TV via HDMI. I got analog signal TV connection but the picture is fine while the PC is turned off. Yeah I know I should get digi TV but till then I would like to sort this out. The TV is a Samsung 40" LCD model LE40A336. It has 2 HDMI input ports. Tryed both with same results. BTW if I remember it right, I had the PC connected via VGA last weekend and didn't have this problem. I will double check it in the morning.
Maybe I'm using wrong setting with PC... wrong Hz or sth. Anyhow maybe someone has had similar problems and solved it.
PC:
GTX 470 DVI->HDMI
i5 2500K
Windows 7 x64
EDIT: The TV is the only monitor connected to the PC via HDMI. Sound is passing through the HDMI cable aswell.

the VGA doesn't transfer data signals through digital technology, it uses analog, that's why the picture appears correct on the VGA, the HDMi though uses a technology called HDCP handshaking, the PC needs to handshake the display for it to show the images being encrypted from the desktop, if that handshake doesn't take place then the image will appear scrambled.

you can read up about HDCP here High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia but your options are just to use the VGA cable, or if it is a software fault then ... Read more

Hi everyone, I just got a new sound bar (Yamaha YAS-105) which only supports Dolby Digital 5.1 (AC3, I think) and I want it to smoothly transcode all of my DTS or newer audio to a multi stream AC3 in both MPC player from the latest K-lite mega pack, VLC and Winamp, or rather, if possible, just in general. If I play something thats DD5.1 in K-Lite's MPC it neatly picks up the audio and displays it as DD on my sound bar, same thing goes for DD5.1 in VLC etc. but as soon as I play something in DTS or higher there is no audio. I've been googling and tweaking the settings already and after messing around a bit it does play sound through MPC but none of my Dolby lights light up on my device and it doesn't sound like 5.1 either, the weird thing is that no lights go on, not even the PCM light just the TV light is connected and it gives a sort of stereo with subwoover sound (so 2.1). If anyone can help me out I'd be very grateful, I know it's possible because it works with media boxes as well, I just can't get it to work on windows... Any extra info, I have an Alienware X51 RC1, Soundbar is a Yamaha YAS-105, like I said it's hooked up via HDMI to my TV and my TV through a Digital optical cable to my soundbar.

I've tried a fresh install of 8.1, to no avail.

Hi folks, so I got a new pc and connected it to my LG 42LV550T using a DVI to HDMI and 3.5mm from line out (and tried headphone socket) to the 3.5mm audio in (RGB/DVI) socket on the TV but I don't get any sound on the TV.
I connected the PC to my stereo using the line out and headphones socket with 3.5mm to stereo/phono plugs and I get sound, but I would like the sound through the TV and then the TV connected to my stereo for better sound all round.

I know DVI doesn't carry sound.

I had a chat on LG support with no help

Today my notebook Asus M50Vn suddenly started to behave weird. While it's connected to plasma via HDMI, everything starts to stutter a bit, which is very inconvenient in videos. It works like this: 0,5 s of fluid picture, 0,1 s of freeze, 0,5 s of fluid picture, and so on.

Situation is the same on primary (built-in) monitor and secondary (plasma), as well as on youtube, VLC, PotPlayer and MPC HC. DXVA and CUDA won't make any difference, choosing different video renders in player's settings won't do the help as well. I've already tried to install older and newer drivers (graphics is Geforce 9650m GT) but it didn't help.

Computer is 100 % virus free, there is COMODO IS for on-access security and I've also checked it with malwarebytes, hitman pro, emsisoft emergency kit, kaspersky tdss killer and CCE. Almost all processes are disabled.

It's interesting because there's no problems when plasma is connected via VGA.

Unfortunately there's no useful system restore points.

Does anybody have any idea what could be wrong? Thanks in advance.

Hi,
I just did a fresh install of Win 8.1 last week and my TV which is connected via HDMI is not getting detected as a display on my PC. My monitor was detected fine.

When i right click my desktop and go to screen resolution, the TV doesnt show up there even post clicking detect. Same if i go into AMD CCC and click on detect.

However Win 8.1 can detect it. The TV is seen in device manager under digital media device and i can see the TV under Devices and Printers in Control Panel. I've tried troubleshooting it but it says everything is fine.
But I need it to come up as a display so i can use it as a primary display at times or to duplicate display.

I had no such problems with Win 7. It would detect right off the bat.

Things ive tried:-
I've installed the Omega 14.12 drivers and the Beta 15.4 drivers.
I've tried installing them in Win 7 compatibility mode too, but the installer then wouldnt give me the option to install the display driver and the HDMI audio driver.

One thing i notice is that the driver for the TV is provided by Microsoft and the date of the driver is 6/21/2006! So maybe this needs to be updated. I tried to click on update driver but it says my driver is up to date.

I also have all the latest windows updates installed.

so not sure what else to do here.

Please help.

A:Win 8.1 - TV connected via HDMI not detected as a Display

The 2006 device driver is simply the generic one which is normal, same one I get when TV is plugged in.
What HDMI port are you using? One on motherboard or one coming directly from GPU? This almost has to be a graphics driver problem.
Why would you try installing drivers in 7 compatibility mode? We are talking 8.1 here right? Have you tried drivers from manufacturers site?
A laptop or desktop? Motherboard and GPU make/model?
So, so many details you've left out.
Would help to have some system specs.

I have an Elitebook 8530p that I am trying to connect to my TV so I can view online TV on my TV screen. I can stream the online TV and watch it on the laptop ok, and I can connect the laptop to the TV with HDMI cord and I see the picture on the TV too, but as soon as I push the play button and it starts to stream the Laptop freezes. This happens on both TV's in our house with different HDMI cords which leads me to believe it is an issue with the laptop (not the TV's or cords). I have tried pushing the Fn + F4 buttons to clone it but that makes no difference. I have tried changing the display settings but I don't really know what I am doing! Another post said to choose full HDMI setting but even though the laptop has a HMDI port it didn't appear to have that setting. Is it too old?

A:Laptop freezes when connected to TV through HDMI

The problem is most likely the video card driver, so yes technically your laptop is too old, but luckily you can save that geezer! If updating the drivers doesn't work then you can try changing resolutions.

Solution found here:
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...o/7fafd27d-816f-456c-afa6-3c7fec3909e3?auth=1
a. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

b. Click System and Maintenance, click System, and then click Device Manager.
Note If Control Panel is in Classic View, double-click System, and then click Device Manager.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.

c. In Device Manager, expand Display Adapters, right-click the display devices, and then click properties and under the driver tab click on Uninstall.

d. When you are prompted to confirm that you want to remove the device, click OK.

e. Restart the computer.

After the computer restarts, the drivers will be automatically installed. Check after this procedure. Also check if you have any exclamation mark or cross marks alongside the display devices listed in device manager.
You can update the drivers using windows update. Refer to the below mentioned link and use the steps provided accordingly -http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Update-a-driver-for-hardware-that-isnt-working-properly

You may also check if there are any updates for the drivers at the manufacturer website. You may even install the latest drivers from the manufacturer... Read more

A:HDMI connected to Monitor & the other end connted to TV

If the title of your post is accurate.....then that will never work. You have to connect the TV to the PC with an HDMI cable and then do the same thing for the monitor. You need 2 cables. No other way around it.

Issue occurs both streaming and when testing using system sounds (such as "test" in the sound setup in device manager). Realtek shouldn't even be involved with the HDMI sound. I suggest to update your laptop's drivers and use "Intel Display Audio" as your HDMI driver. Set the volume to max then you're good to go.

Well normally I'd have said it was just your laptop struggling to upscale the image due to hardware limitations. But a 9650gt should be more than capable.
What happens if you disable the laptop screen and just use the tv as a primary monitor?

Erm.. Try a different HDMI lead and lower the resolution a little. But that's clutching at straws lol

Usage:
1) Connect to plasma tv using hdmi output & watch online videos from youtube etc.
2) Go online thru free public wi-fi like hotel rooms, McDonald etc.
3) Later go online from anywhere (Cars etc) by buying data plan from AT&T etc.

Plz comment on Inspiron M101z for my usage type.
What other options do I have in this category?
Thanks.

Hey guys, I'm actually new here, so I am not sure if this is in the right forum page, but I need help. I have had a problem with my HDTV and laptop for a few months and finally decided to start a thread for help. The problem is that the HDTV is blurry and fuzzy when connected to my laptop via HDMI. However, I realize this is an overscanning issue, because in the AMD Catalyst Control Center, whenever I set the scaling for overscanning to 0%, the fuzzy text and screen is fixed, but the edges around the screen like the taskbar are cutoff the edge of the screen. I do not think my TV has an option for "Just Scan", but maybe you guys can find something I can't. Here is the manual:

Also, I am running Windows 8.1 with an AMD Radeon HD 7520G graphics card.

Any help is appreciated, thanks.

A:Need help with my laptop connected to my HDTV (HDMI Cable)

Not sure I can help but I have the same thing. I have a cheap TV and I think it has more to do with that. I play videos is all and not an issue there, just desktop is expanded past screen.

My TV is only 720p.

I'd love to see if someone has a fix.

My headphone jack is busted, so I bought an HDMI to 3.5mm adapter so I could use my headphones that way. However, I can't get the laptop to send audio over HDMI because it doesn't think there's any device to receive that audio. How can I get Windows to route audio that way anyway? Everything I find is the opposite problem, where someone has a device plugged in and recognized but can't send audio to it.

Hello, I am weighing up my options between purchasing an Ideapad 500s or a Thinkpad L460. I do a bit of video editing, and when I'm doing that kind of work I want to hook the laptop up to a 4k screen, (the extra pixels allow a much more efficient workflow). To connect to a 4k monitor at 60Hz I have read that I need a DisplayPort output (which I note that the 500s does not have), or an HDMI 2.0. I suspect that the Ideapad 500s does not have an HDMI 2.0 output, but I would be happy to be contradicted. Could someone please confirm this one way or ther other? Preferably if you could point me to some official documentation about the product which answers the question that would be great! If it does have an HDMI 2.0, I wonder if anyone has any idea how the nVidia chip would handle the 4k screen. I wouldn't be gaming or even doing and 3d modelling or rendering - just some HD video editing - so I expect it would be fine? Many thanks,Tom

Hello, I built my new computer about a week ago and was running it off a single 19" Tevion TV while I waited for the HDMI cables to arrive so I could setup my second monitor.

They arrived yesterday and when I plugged in my 32" JVC LT-32DA30J there was overscanning and the bluriness. I fixed the overscanning in the TV's menu and now the size is correct but even at native resolution, the JVC monitor is still quite blurry and is a strain to look at and concentrate on.

Plugging the HDMI cable into my Tevion monitor made that go blurry as well so it could be the HDMI cable or the motherboard ports (when I first got the PC, the VGA port had the same problem but once updated it looked normal)

Does anyone know of a fix to this ? Or can at least suggest what part is going wrong so I can try and fix it ?

What I have tried:
Changing the resolution - all the different resolutions all show the same blurriness
Changing the refresh rate - problem persists through all refresh rates
Changing monitor settings - As above, changing these settings didn't help with anything

Any help is very appreciated , I've been trying to fix this problem for most of yesterday

A:HDMI connected monitor is blurry and seems out of focus

you dont seem to have changed the 2 most important things!!

1) update the display/gpu drivers.
2) change the hdmi cable.

if neither results in it working then report back!

I recently found out that every time i plug in a HDMI or Auxiliary cable, my computer crash. I tried changing the cable to see if that was the problem and it wasn't. I just don't know where to look to start fixing the problem. I've considered that maybe the connector is faulty, but i'm looking for option before going to that.

I use HDMI to connect my TV for movies
I use the auxiliary Cable to connect a speaker.
on different occasion.

A:Computer crashes after HDMI/Aux cable is connected

Did you try shutting the computer down, plugging in the cable then starting back up? I've crashed a computer when plugging in a USB Thumb/Flash drive, turned out it was caused by static electricity that I'd built up walking across a carpeted room, now have anti-static touch pads on my desks to touch before anything else.

Been trying to figure out a problem with HDMI audio out and "not plugged in error"

HW is a motherboard with HD3200 and ALC889A HD with latest drivers.

Using a HDMI cable i get HDMI audio out, but if i switch inputs on the receiver then back HDMI audio is "not plugged in".

changing resolution brings it back as default device.

Tested a backed up vista image with ati 9.04 and realtek hdmi 2.23 drivers and it worked fine changing inputs on the receiver.

The same drivers in win7 did not resolve the issue, so im guessing theres something in win 7 that causes this

A:win7 bug with HDMI audio connected to receiver

if you have an HDMI capable receiver I am going to assume you have at least a 5.1 setup correct? And I am also going to assume that "HW is a motherboard with HD3200" means onbaord HD3200?

If yes then I would suggest using either the coaxial output or optical S/PDIF output to the receiver as you are not reciveing 8 channel LPCM through HDMI.

As to your actual problem I am setup same as you, however I am not having that problem... is video still able to pass through to your TV even in the audio not plugged in state?

Hi there;

I recently got a lenovo z710 ideapad to replace my previous laptop and serve as a substantial increase in gaming potential. I usually game with my computer connected to an lcd tv with an hdmi cord. However, with the new laptop I am having incredibly constant BSOD issues.

The BSOD has specifically occurred in Bioshock: Infinite and Deus Ex: HR (I have not yet tested any other games significantly). I am normally able to play fine for some time, however after gaming for a variable amount of time my computer blue screens after trying to load a new map or level (either by fast travelling, moving from one map to another, or just from loading a savegame).

In the case of Deus Ex, I can quickly and reliably produce the error, if I run the game and load a save, then quit to desktop and repeat, the BSOD will occur within 2-3 cycles. There was no problem when running the game while not connected to my tv, even after 10 or so cycles.

So far, I've tried the following based on what I could find on the net:
-Verified integrity of the affected games
-re-download affected games
-search error codes on Microsoft's website (no luck)
-Used the Windows ErrorChecking tool to check for hard disk errors
-Complete un-installation of NVidia drivers and safe-mode wipe using Display-Driver-Uninstaller tool

Nothing seems to have any affect. I think (hope) it's a software issue, as the computer did originally come with Windows 8, which I removed and replaced with the Windows 7 ... Read more

From the sounds of it, you have a problem with your graphics card, and because it's a laptop it sounds like an overheating issue. You have a bugcheck of 0x116 which is a video tdr error which is generally caused by a faulty graphics card. Download Speccy to monitor your temperatures. Then post a screenshot here.

Speccy - System Information - Free Download

Then can you please run a stress test with furmark by following these instructions.

I have connected my HP Laptop with Windows 8 to my TV through an HDMI port. I watch netflix and youtube. A couple times a day the sound will just quit working. I check the audio and it says it is still hooked up to the TV. The only way I can figure out how to get it working again is to restart the computer. This has never happened while audio was playing, just when it is not in use for a little while.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

HP has tens of thousands of different laptops. Which exact one do you have? The full model number will be on a sticker on the bottom and will be similar to DV9240ca or DV6-2130us.

Dear Experts

I am using windows 7 64 bit on my desktop (motherboard ASUS P5E)
ASUS - Motherboards- ASUS P5E

And I installed VGA SAPPHIRE HD 3870 (ATI RADEON Technology) 512 MB.
This VGA has a converter plug from DVI to HDMI.

Connected a 3 m HDMI cable from a converter to the Samsung TV.

I can see a picture on the TV but no sound

What I did for troubleshooting

1- download latest driver from AMD website from the link below :
AMD Catalyst
2- Follow the instructions here :
How to Set Up Audio on an ATI Radeon HD | eHow.com

No audio from HDTV when playing audio / video from a computer system

3- Digital Audio (HDMI) option was grayed out (not clickable) as can be seen in the snapshot below :

http://i46.tinypic.com/2d10aba.jpg

A:SAPPHIRE HD 3879 connected to TV via HDMI no sound

What is a Sapphire HD 3879? I can't find that model. I see a Sapphire HD 3870, is that what you mean?

Regardless, you aren't getting audio because DVI doesn't carry audio, so converting from DVI to HDMI won't give you audio.

Recently my hard drive went out and I had it replaced with a solid state drive. The problem I'm having now is when I hook up my Samsung Smart TV through an HDMI cable (also tried a new cable with same results) I get wavy, scrolling lines on my laptop that go away when I disconnect the cable. The lines don't show up on my TV and this didn't happen before having my computer repaired.

The Staples tech wants to charge me again for diagnosing it after paying over $270 for a diagnostics and replacement of the hard drive. He said it's not possible for it to be a problem with the new hard drive so it would be another charge even though it didn't do it before having it repaired and my computer reformatted. I'm concerned I'm going to burn something out if I keep using it this way but I also don't want to pay more if it's something simple. He said it could be the motherboard or graphics card but I'm not sure whether or not to trust him. I'm a senior with little technical knowledge.

I want to use an HDMI cable so I can watch Xfinity programming that's available online only. I can live with it doing this as long as it isn't hurting my computer. Any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated.

I have the same issue in windows 10 home 64 bit-
HDMI monitor no speakers-no sound from anywhere when connected?

When I right click on the volume control, the options it shows are:
open volume control
playback devices
recording devices
sounds
volume control options

It does not give me a properties option.

Then I went to control panel and searched for sound. Then I saw the screen below. There was a Digital Audio as well and I clicked 'Don't use this device(disable)' on it by mistake and clicked OK.

Now, I only have Speakers option. How do I get the Digital Audio option back in here? I think that will solve my original problem.

Thanks

System has two HDMI ports and one DVI. The DVI supports a monitor and HDMI is advertised as supporting two monitors. Neither of the HDMI ports are working. Contacted HP support and was told to return for warranty work (1 day old tower). Returned to store for replacement contacted HP support with second tower and was told same, return for warranty work. Contacted online support from another company went through several operations, drivers different connections, both monitor and TV and finally was told tower #2 was also defective. I messed up display settings for when I attach a TV via HDMI to my laptop. I set the system to display only on the TV (OK, not a totally stupid idea) and then picked a resolution the TV doesn't support (that was TOTALLY stupid!) When I disconnect the TV, laptop display works as normal. As soon as I connect the TV, laptop screen blanks and TV goes to Invalid Format. I have tried to change display settings through the control panel with the TV disconnected, but as soon as I plug in the TV, it goes back to the bad resolution on the TV and no laptop display.

Is this stored in the registry somewhere? I want to reset the flag telling the system to display only on 2nd display.

Please help

A:Invalid Format when laptop connected to HDMI TV

Hi OldWraith, welcome to the Seven Forums.

This should work:Connect the TV, don't mind the Invalid Format warning
Press WIN + P to open Display Switch dialog. You don't see it as it's on the non-working TV display but trust me, it's there:
(Screenshot from our tutorial Display - Change Main Display)
Press Right Arrow > Press Enter to change from Display 2 only to Display 1 only
Now you should have the desktop on laptop's display, you can change your display settings as you wish

Hi, new here. After searching for information on my problem I could not find a single thread with the same issue.
Having said that, here goes.

I just bought a new TV and attempted to connect it to my laptop via HDMI. I have used both the laptop and the cable with other TV's in the past with no problem but when I connect the two the laptop powers off as if the power has been cut. It will not boot when the two are connected and only happens when the TV is on. The laptop will boot into safe mode but it seems that HDMI out is disabled in safe mode so I cannot test it. I have checked and my graphics drivers are current. Hope someone can help! Thanks.

More Information: I have since exchanged for a different TV (Different Brand) for an unrelated issue and it doesn't work with this one either, same issue.
