Hello a few days ago I could turn on this laptop for some reason (running windows xp) so came to the conclusion that the mobo fried so I bought another mobo out of ebay. I changed it and now the computer boots and I get the windows xp welcome sound but with a grey screen with some dull lines of color vertical. So I hooked up an external monitor and I see video up to first windows xp logo and it changes to black to go to the final screen the monitor looses signal. With the external monitor I can get to the bios but I don't see anything in there related to the video which I find weird. Does anyone know what might be causing this problem? Could it be that the mobo is bad?

I am not sure what is wrong with my computer. It seems to charge fine (according to the light) and all the usual buttons light up on the keyboard when you turn it on. However, nothing shows up on the screen. I can hear the fan as well. I tried to connect it with a projector with the VGA port, it did not work either. Any help would be appreciated.

So, I had no issues with my laptop (HP DV6119US) until I upgraded on the memory last night. This morning at startup, I get the power buttons and the laptop appears to be on, however, I have a black screen. I shutdown and restarted, pressed F10 and I get video. Currently running a Hard Disk Self Test, No issues.

OS: MS Windows XP w/2 Kingston 1 Gb DDR2 RAM modules.

Question: Can anybody tell me what's going on with my system? Laptop was running fine, perhaps I should remove and re-install memory modules?? Or, go back to "as issued" memory of 1 Gb total RAM?

Update: I see the HP "splash" at start-up, and quickly disappears, but nothing more than the follow-on black screen.

Thank you,

Centennial, CO

I have an Acer AspireOne D150-1322. When the netbook is open less than 45 degrees I can view and work on the computer, but if I open it greater than that the screen starts flashing Grey, White, Red, Green, Blue, and other colors like it's during a screen test.

When I lower the screen to less than 45 degrees it is ok again. If I connect an external monitor to it, the display on the external monitor is fine if I open the netbook all the way, but still flashes different colors on the netbook.

Anyone seen this before?

A:Netbook Screen Not Working When Fully Open

My initial thoughts would be a dodgy connection somewhere. How old is the machine, is it still under warranty at all?

If not, you could always take the screen casing off and check the connections to the screen / inverter board. They are normally just plug in type cables and may have become loose.

A:HP Pavilion g6 w/blank screen

Hook up the laptop to an external monitor. If that works then the LCD screen has failed, and needs to be replaced. If you get nothing with the monitor, but the computer sounds like it is booting up, then the video chip on the motherboard has failed and you will need to replace the motherboard.

(This have nothing to do with the iPhone)
When computer automatic power on, no screen is shown, no boot, and all LED's is on.

1st try:
I let i stay that way for 20 mins, when i look to it, the fan is running like hell, and ite hot! - FAILED

I let it cool off, and try to power it on with alt key pressed - FAILED

I take out AC, then battery and hold down power button for one minute, plug in AC and try again - FAILED

I take out HD, RAM, RTC battery, let it stand empty for and hour, put it all back - FAILED

I try to take out only RAM's and plugged them back in every diffrent way i could - FAILED

6th and last:
Plugged out HD, turned on the computer, and it acted like it never had been removed - LOL?

Did you change the inverter over from the old board or did it come with one, (inverter: a small board usually across the bottom of the screen)

first of all, i have no background knowledge of this laptop, i was just givin it whenever one of my friends was fustrated about this problem.

Anyways, bacl to the laptop, whenever i turn it on the screen does that little dim light where you can tell the screen has power, then shows the HP logo. once the HP logo is gone, it goes right back to that dim lit screen and stays like that.

ive tryed waiting it out but after about 4 hours it still did that screen problem. the solution of taking out the battery and holding the power button did not work for it eathier, i tryed it multiple times. also pressing f8 or f11 at start up does not show up with anything.

I do not care about any files or programs on this computer, i just want it to work normally, i am probably going to end up selling it anyway so dont worry about trying to save my files while fixing it

thanks to anyone who can help me, this is really annoying me.

Hello there, Recently, the screen on my 23xi monitor started to go blank after some usage (the time varies).  When this happens, the power light on the right corner of the monitor remains lit, however the power button doesn't do anything when pressed.  I don't think it's my computer putting it to sleep, since I've already checked my power settings for that, as well as the ones on the monitor's OSD.  The only way I can get a video image back is by unplugging and replugging the power connector located on the back.  I've had the monitor for only a year and a half.  Any ideas? Thanks!

Recently, when I start my computer, the Asrock splash screen appears, followed by the pulsating windows logo. Once this is done, it moves on to a black screen with only the cursor visible. The cursor is movable but no key commands seem to do anything. Eventually the desktop appears but it can take up to two minutes and seems to be getting longer every time. I was also looking at my event log and found this entry: "The Religious Religion service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the file specified." I'm not very knowledgeable on the subject but "The Religious Religion service" sounds a lot like a virus. I'm not sure if these two things are connected, and an AV scan has turned up negative. Thanks for any help.

Hardware Dell AMD desktop, 3 GB ram, pre-loaded from dell with Vista, SP 2 is installed.

Initial problem: Windows screen went black, Icons still show and was able to open IE. It was not full function, lost fav and it did not remember me when I went to know sites that use to have my data. Also in the lower right hand corner of the black screen it said I was not running a genuin copy of windows vista.

It would not allow me to do a restore in normal mode. Booted in safe mode and was able to restore to a previous date.

When I booted back up in normal mode all looked fine, went to start IE and it comes up with a white screen for about 3 seconds then just closes back down. Can start IE from safe mode but it still has limited function.

MCafee anti-virus is current
Installed Malwarebytes while in safe mode, ran it and it found 3 problems, deleted the files but the problem still exists. Can not tell you which MB fixed, I did not write them down.

Should I try downloading IE 8 while in safe mode, install it and then re-boot in normal mode?

Any help wouldbe appreciated.

I'm having problems with my laptop (HP Pavilion dv4 1428dx) the last thing I did was put it to sleep, then cameback and tried to wake it up but it would not start up. All the lights are on, but the screen is black and the only thing I hear is the fan moving. The caps lock and num lock keys have a blinking light, not really sure what that means. The power LED is on, the battery LED is on, but the hard drive LED is not on. This computer is almost 3 years old and I have never had a major problem like this until recently. If anyone has any solutions I would gladly appreciate them.  Thank you for your time,Freshman4002

View Solution.

A:HP Pavilion dv4 1428dx black screen/will not start up

The blink codes state caps lock/num lock because it could be just the caps lock, just the numlock, or both.  If both are blinking, then it counts as one blink for each time.

If it is blinking just one time and pausing for 3-4 seconds, then that indicates the processor POST test failed.  A processor failure usually requires a new processor, but some have been able to open the notebook to reseat the process and apply new thermal paste to get the issue resolved.

If it is under warranty, I would recommend contacting HP for service.

If it is out of warranty, then I would contact HP to get a quote and compare that to the cost of a local PC shop to weigh your options.

I have a Pavilion dv6 laptop, which runs on Windows 10 (though reconfigured from windows 7) with serial no: CNF9478B7B, Product: VS080EA#ACQ and Model: dv6-1310el. My laptop started acting up last night... I turned on the power button as usual, the lights on the power button, caps lock key, the wireless connection key, volume control display, the charging and battery light display and the cursor control key on the touch pad were on, and the fan was on as well, but the screen was totally black.  I waited a few minutes to see if it just had to take some time to do whatever it needed to do if it was trying to start up, but it kept doing the same thing.  After a few minutes, I turned off the power button to shut it down and turn it on again but there was a shalow view of hp which normally displays when the system is turned on and it still went dim (black) again. Nothing happened with the screen... it just seemed "stuck".  So I did remove the battery and pressed down the power button for about 2 minutes and put back the battery yet the same experience.  I'm not really sure what caused this. So....... I have no idea what to do!I usually try to take good care of my laptop This is the first time this problem has occurred.  I'm really hoping that my documents that are on the computer won't get deleted because of this issue....Anyway, if anybody has any insight on this issue, I would greatly apprec... I have had this computer for the past 10 months and i upgraded it to Windows 10 shortly after I purchased it. Now, there's been some problems which are not so big, like the headphone jack not working anymore, but I can kinda live with that. Las night, my computer crashed and wouldnt turn on. When I switched it on, the power button and wifi were the only lights on and the screen was blank. I forced shut down and turned on a couple of times before leaving it on for about an hour. An hour later, I forced it shut down and turned it on and then it worked! I was happy and decided to shut it down and turn it on again tomorrow to use. Today, I can' t turn it on at all. The same lights are on and the fan is running but the screen is blank. I've tried removing battery, AC adaptor, hard reset but it all doesn't work.I'm not living in the area I purchased it from so I wont be able to send it for warranty until a month from now when I go back. Is there anything I can do to fix it?

Hello, I am having a problem with starting up my computer. I recently just bought another CPU fan after giving my old one to a friend for his PC. When I put the new CPU fan in my computer, Windows loaded up just fine. After a few minutes, I would get a blue screen. I kept rebooting and the blue screen still appeared. It never did this before I switched the CPU fan. So I shut the computer off for a while, turned it back on and nothing comes up on the screen. Not even the lights on the PC turn on. I can hear the harddrive turning on and I can see the CD-ROM light go on but that's about it. No beeps or anything. I tried replacing the CPU fan, power supply, the case, grey cable wires, and nothing seems to be helping. Any suggestions would be appreicated. Here's the computer info:

When pressing the power button it makes a quiet start up sound and the only indication that it is working is the tiny flashing light on the "Caps Lock" button on the left hand side of the keyboard. The system does not load and the screen is blank. The laptop arrived new only a couple of days ago, and worked fine for over 24 hours. To help me get used to using a laptop I used a wireless mouse via a small USB which went into the port on the right hand side. What appears to have happened is the AA battery in the mouse expired which caused the screen to freeze. I then removed the USB and attempted to carry on by using the touchpad, but nothing seemed to work. I replaced the mouse battery but this did not rectify the situation. With no other option I switched the power off by holding down the power button, but since then I have not been able to start up......I can hear the laptop by putting my ear very close......but the screen is blank.Do I need to send this product back...Can anyone help..?Alan

soon after I fixed a virus on my computer, when i booted it up, after the windows welcome screen, there is only a black screen with the mouse arrow.I have tried chkdsik, fixboot, and several other commands in the recovery console.I used an cord and was able to back up all of my files, they are still in tack.I also ran the manufacture diagnostics. When i tried to start it in safe mode, the same blank screen, this time the arrow is larger.I will start fresh working through the problem if that is what is needed.I noticed last time i turned it on, the lights for the disk drive is not flickering after boot and the keyboard lights (num lock, cap lock) are not illuminated.I am just not sure what else i need to look at for a fix. Thanks,It is 3 year old dell laptop with a westerndigital hard drive running xp media center.

Hi, can anyone help me? I started my pc up yesterday as normal and the usual black screen appeared showing all of the white writing you get on start up, folowed by the Amibios screen then Windsows XP home edition then it suddenly went blank! Totally black screen. I have tried a few times now but still the same thing happens. It is obviously not the monitor as you can see the booting going on but I just don't know why the screen goes blank. I have tried starting it in safe mode also but to no is sooo frustrating!

Thanks in advance for any advice offered!

My computer has two ram slots filled with 512 mb each, I replaced 1 ram card with a two gb ram card and tried to start my computer after I plugged it in. All I got was a blank screen. I replaced the new card with my old one and my computer started up normally. Does anyone have any suggestions? I also can't enter bios, it is just blank.

A:Need help with ram, got blank screen when tried to start up

We have a few possibilities but first try these two:

1) Verify that your motherboard can support up to 2 GB per slot.
2) The RAM You bought is defective; return it and purchase another one. I suggest 2 stick of one 1GB each.

it all started when someone gave me a virus on msn since then my computer has seemed to gone from bad to worse. Its got to the point when i turn on my computer it loads up but when it comes to the bright blue log on screen, instead it goes blank and freezes, sometimes it even says no input signal. Then i have no choice but to turn my computer off by the mains and then start it back up where i get the option to go on safe mode and then it works. However this isnt right there must be something wrong with my normal mode. Has anyone got any ideas how to fix this problem ? i cannot get onto the normal mode at all!

This did not qualify as a BSoD but I managed to lose all of my tiles from the Start Screen, and since my background was blue, well, it was like a time warp.

Anyway, after installing Google Chrome and making it my default browser, I looked on the Start Screen and could not find a Chrome tile. The All Apps screen did have one and when I right clicked it, it indicated that it was on the Start Screen as it had the "Unpin from Start" icon. After trying various methods of getting it to show up, I did unpin it, which also removed it from the All Apps screen of course, then did a search for Chrome, started Chrome and then closed Chrome. When I then tried to go back to the Start Screen to see if there was a Chrome tile, I was greeted by a totally empty screen. I rebooted Win 8 and everything came back normal (I hope) but now with a Chrome tile.

Anyone have insight on what might have occurred?

Hello everyone I have been having some issues with an hp pavilion f1903 monitor, which I will summarise below: Upon start up / or when bringing the computer out of sleep mode after a long period of time has elapsed, the screen remains blank.Turning the monitor off and on again, and then clicking the mouse will bring up the screen for a fraction of a second before it disappears. After a while of going back and forth like this, the display will re-appear and there are no further problems with the monitor which functions normally, with no flickering. The period of time that it takes for this to happen appears to be increasing. The blue light on the monitor power button no longer functions, although the orange light indicating that it has entered sleep mode does still work.My suspicion, given the monitor's age, is that this is a power supply problem, however I would wlecome anyone else's thoughts.  Whatever the outcome, this has been a very good monitor. Many thanks in advance.

I'm having a problem with my computer. It's a dell laptop running Windows XP. This problem just started very recently, the only thing I can think of that might have done it is either installing my new printer or installing Lord of the rings online, those are the only things I've installed around the time I noticed this problem started.

Anyway, the problem is, when I start up my computer, it shows the windows Welcome screen, then just shows the mouse cursor against a blank background. No taskbar, no nothing. I've figured out a way to get around this somehow, by opening the task manager and ending explorer.exe, then logging off my user and logging back on when I get to the login screen. After all that, everything seems fine, but I just can't figure out why it's doing that in the first place or how to fix it.

I would greatly appreciate any help or insight into solving the problem, thanks.

I have run my norton internet security in safe mode and it's doesn't find anything nor does the norton bootable recovery tool.
I looked at doing a system restore, but the only date available is the date this problem started.

Hey all,

I need some help or info on a problem I got on my Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop, it is currently running on Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit, Service Pack 2.

OK, Here's the problem, I was in my granny's house, and they just bought a new Panasonic HDTV , with a HDMI port on it, so I thought of connecting my laptop to the TV too watch a movie. But, I was waiting for my cousin to finish taking a bath. So while waiting I thought, why not play a game before she comes out of the bathroom? So my brother comes out and say, let's play a qick game first, so I started Oblivion IV.

When I was halfway playing, the game suddenly froze. So I thought, must be because the graphics was too harsh on my laptop, and I tried to open Task Manager to close the program manually. But, nothing happened when I press CTRL + ALT + DEL. I tried it a few times, and nothing worked.

So I shut down the laptop manually(Hold down the power button), and when I press the power button to turn it on again, it started up like it would normally, then when it reached the Microsoft Loading screen(where the thingy runs in this rectangular bar during startup, with Microsoft Corporation written at the bottom), I noticed it took longer than usual, and then when it finished loading, the screen became black with only a cursor visible( Known as BlacK Screen Of Death I think). I tried rebooting a few times, but it still wouldn't work. And then one time, i rebooted and when the loading screen finished, the whol... Read more

Hi All,Would appreciate some help with my current problem which leaves the system frozen. The cursor moves around ok but apart from a line down the screen about quarter way in from the left, the screen is blank. I am running
System details are as follows:HP Compaq DX2200 MT Intel ® Pentium ® 4CPU 3.20 GHZ,896 MB ram.
Microsoft windows XP version 2002 service pack 3
Browser 8, virus protection-Bitdefender.

I have been able to get the page up after hitting Control,Alt, Delete and this shows zero action on the CPU.
After about 30 mins the system gets going and starts up.I have at this point had a message to say that the firewall protection is switched off. Does this sound like some kind of contention between programs I am running or,perhaps a virus lurking somewhere.
At present the system is running normally and next time I switch on it may be fine.If it is a hardware prob I will probably junk the machine as it is getting a bit past it now.
many thanks

I have done Seatools for windows tests and there all fine except the USB long generic fails without option to repair :/ also already downloaded CCleaner, spybot, Ad-aware and AVG and all been fine. Pleasssee help oh ive also done a windows disk check which came back fine.

A:Blank screen on start up :(

First of all you have too many antivirus programs in there. What most people use and recommend on here is MS security essentials which is totally free and does a very good job.A blank screen can mean that the video or graphics cards need updated, or a problem with the screen itself or other problems.when you say blank is the screen any color at all such as white, black, blue etc?A white screen usually is a graphics or video problem or even a shot motherboard.

Hello! I have a HP pavilion dv6 2088dx laptop that will not power on fully. What I mean is, I get a black screen, no blinking lights for capslock or numlock, and it only seems to make a tiny bit of "powering on" noises. The wifi and sound icons (above the keyboard) both glow red (normally will turn white or blue when fully powered up). I've tried force restarting, plugging in an hdmi cable to my tv (to rule out display issues), removing the battery, removing the hard drive and restarting, even starting it with the memory stick removed. My techie bf is wanting to put the motherboard in my oven, but I thought I'd check with you guys first. I have a dell xps 710 that is running XP. Yesterday, I was attempting to update a driver and reboot my system and when it came back on all I say was my wallpaper and nothing else. I tried to get task manager to come up, but nothing. I tried a variety of ways to get something to come on, but still nothing. I went into Safe Mode...and still nothing. No nada.

I keep seeing a variety of things to do in order to try and get it to boot up and am really confused as to which one I should try.

When I put in my recovery disk I get a menu that says to pick the following options:

When I get the "welcome to set up" screen, should I choose

* To set up Windows XP now, press enter

* To repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery Console, press R.

Different people seem to be saying different things. I also read that you can go in and do the following:

* Boot from your XP Setup CD and enter the Recovery Console
* Run "Attrib -H -R -S" on the C:\Boot.ini file
* Delete the C:\Boot.ini file
* Run "Bootcfg /Rebuild"
* Run Fixboot

And lastly, my pc told me to put in the service pack 2 data disk. If I download the application at work and burn it to a disk..should I burn it as a bootable disk or just a data disk?

I would appreciate any help. Many thanks.

A:Blank start up screen/No icons

Try this to see if you can get it to boot..

Reverting back to a pre-Service Pack state may help resolve the issue. It's possible that some system files were damaged during the driver install.

Go to this page and scroll down to the section that instructs you on removing service packs from the recovery console.

Don't mess with your boot.ini, it's working fine. If it wasn't, you wouldn't be able to boot at all.

I had this problem before but some times it would start up and say theres a nostkrnl.exe missing or corrupted, i tried eveything on the windows cd recovery console what people told me to do but it didn`t work
So eventually i thought what the hell and decided to reload windows... which was a complete success as it kinda went over the top of the old ones so i could find my old files and stuff

Unfortunately i turn it off and then on again the next day and i`m back to the beeping and blank screen... and this time theres no getting into safe mode or windows CD or anything

A:HELP!!! PC Blank screen at start up and 3 sec`s beeps

If it was a desktop computer it has an external monitor, most monitors
show a configuration screen when first powered on until it receives a signal.
Turn the monitor and computer both off for a few seconds, turn the monitor on
you should see the default config screen for it with possibly a logo of the manufacturer,
turn the computer on, does the monitor turn black or does the configuration screen still show?

Next thing is what make and model is the computer? If it is a dell desktop you should be able to locate
4 LED lights on the back near the USB ports labeled A/B/C/D when you power your computer on and hear the beeps
see if any of these lights turn on and take note of them also take note of the beep sequence (# of times and how many
times it occurs also how frequently).

Report back with this information.

A:Screen turns blank on start up for a second of two...

It may be blanking out like its changing resolutions because it is in fact doing just that. Are you using a DVI to analog converter on the back of your video card? because thats just what it does.

Hi, my desktop's been having some problems recently. When I switch it on, it loads just fine. However when it comes to the point in time where it is supposed to show the blue start up screen with "Welcome", the entire screen turns blank. And it just remains that way. There isn't any start up tone too. I've tried rebooting numerous times in normal and safe modes and nothing. Is it a graphic card problem? I do not wish to reformat, quite a fair bit of my school work is in there, I can't risk losing them... And it's urgent since I have most of my portfolio files in there...

Please and thank you!

Hello friends. This morning I woke up to find that my HP laptop, which I'd left on during the night, had suddenly stopped working. I held in the power button for a while and nothing happened. I unplugged the power source, removed the battery, then put them both back. That didn't change anything either. I've tried holding the power button down a few times. That hasn't helped anything either. I've got it as far as this: the indicator light on the caps lock is blinking. The wifi key (F12) is orange, instead of its usual white. The screen doesn't turn on. I'm not hearing the internal fan ratchet up, which would tell me that the hard drive is working while the screen is not. I've left it sit for a while like this, and I'm not sure what to do with it. I really don't want to send it in to a laptop repair place because, even though I've had it for years, I love it to pieces and want to keep using it. Edit: I tried a hard reset, but it didn't work.

A while ago, i broke the section separating two usb drives, but it still worked fine, until once i inserted my usb stick, and my computer went off and blew the fuse in the plug. After that, when i turn on my computer, it starts up normally, and when the log in screen should come up, all i get is a blank blue screen, shown in the picture.

Anyone else experienced my problem, or got any ideas how i could fix it? Ive tried starting up in safe mode, but same problem occurs.

I've got a windows vista desktop that I have not used in awhile. I hooked it all up today and when I turn it on it sits at a black screen with a blinking cursor in the top left hand corner. Can someone help me get this computer going again? Oh, I should mention I'm not very tech savy, but I can follow directions good.

A:Stuck on blank screen during start up.

Let's have a look at the MBR (Master Boot Record) and see where we go from there.

Step 1: On a working computer, please download the latest version of PartedMagic:PartedMagic Downloads (download the .iso file under the heading "Most people will only need this file:")
Write ( in the appropriate manner) the downloaded .iso file to either CD or USB/flashdrive:Creating the LiveCD with InfraRecorder
Creating the LiveUSB
Boot the problematic computer from the PartedMagic CD or flashdrive:At the first menu with Default settings (Runs from RAM) selected, press <ENTER>.
Be patient while PartedMagic loads into memory, and then displays its Desktop.
Success? Let me know if you can successfully boot to the Desktop of PartedMagic, and whether you are using a bootable CD or a flashdrive.

PartedMagic Desktop version 2012-08-09

Step 2: At the PartedMagic Desktop, open a terminal window:Locate the black screen/monitor icon (ROXTerm) along the bar at the bottom of the Desktop screen (third icon from the left-side edge).
Click on the ROXTerm icon to open a terminal window and at the prompt, type:

fdisk -l

Note: There is a space between "fdisk" and "-l".
That is a lower case L as in Llama and not a ONE.
... and press <ENTER>.
Drag your mouse over the output to select it all.
Right-click somewhere in the area selected > C... Read more

I did a system scan with Spybot Search and Destroy along with Hijackthis. The computer was working just fine until start up. When everything loads a white blank screen randomly pops up and disappears. The computer is running just fine but it's bugging me what the white screen is cause it never happened before. I restarted the computer a few times to see if I can crash the white screen which I did. It gave me a CPAX20 error. I did some research on it and it says that I must of downloaded an adware which I don't think can be possible because I've been dealing with virus, maware, and adware for years and I can't find anything I've recently downloaded that would have any viruses because I download programs from a friend that's very reliable.

Anyone have any idea on what this is?

(Note: If this is in the wrong section then I apologize before hand)

I don't know if this is the right place for this post...sorry if it isn't! I had searched online if someone has the same problem of me, I found similar problems but not the mine one (but if there is, can you please give me the link?).
I have a DELL LATITUDE D830 with a dual boot (Ubuntu and Vista). When I start Vista I get the Windows logo and then a black screen with the mouse pointer only.
Keybord doesn't work. I can move the mouse, but cannot select anything. No Ctr+Alt+Del works.
I can just switch off the computer. At the start up I need to press F8 to be able to choose something otherwise I get the black screen.
If I reboot in debug mode it seems to have problems when/after (?) loading crcdisk.sys doesn't tell me anything...
If I reboot asking automatic restore of PC it asks me the account and the only working account is the mine one (no administrator available). Then it suggests to contact the administrator. I have checked the error report and nothing is reported: system is working.
I have no previous configuration to restore.
I can access to the prompt. So I tried to write sfc /scannow. The answer is that to be completed the process requires to restart the computer and to do again sfc /scannow. I restart again, do the command again, but I get the same answer.....
When I get the black screen the processor is not off, because after a long time (2 hours about) the computer restarts by something is happening even if I don't know what... Read more

A:Blank screen at Vista start up..

First of all...have you tried Windows Vista Startup Repair? There is a tutorial in this Forum on how to do that. Sorry but I am horrible with hyperlinks.

If that doesnt work, you can still install Vista over the previous with a reformat to ensure correct install and operation. You can install a Program called EZ BCD. It modifies your boot file to choose which OS you which to boot to, times, and default OS to boot to.

You can find that either by googling it or at

I hope this helps.

Hi there,

I have a self made PC with Winfast Foxconn MB, AMD64 3000+ socket 754,
ATI 9250 AGP.

I installed everything, connected the cables but the computer does not turn on. I receive a blank screen and nothing else.

The MB and proccesor worked previously on a different system that I have upgraded.

What can it be?

The FANs are working, I can not turn it off from the power button.

Please help me.

A:My computer does not start, blank screen

If you get no beeps Id suspect a bad connection... I have seen this on the CPU. Simply remove it and reseat it. I have also seen bad AMD boards do that. I saw on two seperape occasions exactly what you describe... if I let them sit there for 5 minutes to warm up and then restart them they worked. In that case the problem could be cold solder connections somewhere on the mobo. Not a good situation as most computer users dont have the skill or equipment to find that type of problem.

hello, need some help with this because i have never ran across this problem before.

i have a compaq presario running windows vista, believe its 32 bit

when i power on the PC it has the first little loading screen with the compaq logo on it then it just goes to a blank black screen with a cursor blinking in the top left hand side of the screen... and thats all it does...

from what i was told the owners wife was playing some game (a normal windows game) and all of a sudden the computer just shut down they pressed the power button to turn it back on and nothing happens.

i have taken the drive out and put it into another computer and scanned it for viruses and it found a trogen and removed it, but the problem still persists.

i also have the "Ultimate Boot up CD for Windows" and loaded it up and ran a disk check and it ran its course and "fixed errors and checked all files for errors" so i tried to restart and see if windows will load up but still nothing happens. I believe it has something to do with the boot-up drivers being corrupt or even problems with the registry but i am having trouble figuring out how to solve this problem without having to do the last resort and reformat the drive.

any help would be much appreciated.

A:absolutly no start up... blank screen

I have a Dell computer that is about five years old and uses Windows XP. The problem I have is that I will turn on the computer, the Dell logo will appear, and then the screen goes blank right before the Windows load-up screen appears. I am able to access the system menu (F2 I think) as well as the Safe Mode screen (F8). I tried starting the computer in Safe Mode but that doesn't work. For what it's worth, the computer has had numerous problems lately. Sometimes it takes awhile to log in a user and then when the user is finally logged in, the icons don't appear right away. Also I've noticed that my internet has been crashing more often so this latest problem isn't a complete shock. So I was just wondering if there is anything I could do to fix the blank screen problem. Would changing the monitor make any difference?

A:Computer screen goes blank after start-up

Hi Tony, welcome to TSF. If the problem that you are having isn't hardware related, the easiest way to fix it would be to completely wipe the hard drive reformat it and reinstall the operating system. Since it is booting to the logo screen then hardware doesn't appear to be the issue from the information you have given. Tell you what, let me ask you some specific questions for you to answer and I will do my best to help you troubleshoot and correct the problem.

Here are some questions for you to answer that will help me. Just answer them the best you can and if you dont know an answer its ok. If you already answered anything I'm asking in your first post just skip over it.

Hi , I wonder if someone maybe able to help with this problem please

When I start my desktop PC it shows the first screen and then the next screen where it should be starting up it just remains black apart from a little white line in the top left hand corner flashing like its waiting for me to type something (or what does this mean ? ). This seems to remain here for a least a while as I have waited. I restart the PC and press F9 for diagnostics and all systems are green and then everything boots up as normal with no problems. This has happened the last few days. I noticed I have had alot of Windows updates so I don't know if that has anything to do with it.

I'm using a desktop with Windows 7, I'n not sure what else to add at this stage.

Advice is appreciated , thanks

A:Blank start-up screen problem

Boot the computer and repeatedly press F8 while it is booting. A screen will come up that list Repair as the first option. Choose that.

Hi all. I hope someone can make a suggestion.
My son's HP computer will not start. It gets as far as the Windows XP load screen (with the progress or animated bar on it) and then it goes blank. About 10-15 seconds later the screen remains blank but it starts to play music. The music sounds almost like a game playing. I can't get into safe mode or use system recovery and, of course, he didn't create emergency disks when he got the computer.

The computer is about 2 months old running XP Professional.

Has anyone seen something like this before? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
