Hello,I recently purchased a new 2016 model Spectre x360 (PN X7V20UA). It came running Windows 10 1511, and I would like it to be running 1607 (Anniversary Update). However, the update to 1607 is not being offered inside of Windows Update. I've installed everything that was available, include today's November patch releases, to no avail. Windows Update shows "Your device is up to date." This link http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2016/10/hps-new-spectre-x360-is-probably-the-best-pc-laptop-around/ says that the 1607 update is being blocked on this model temporarily due to driver compatability issues. I tried to get confirmation from HP twitter support about if this was true or not, but wasn't able to get much help. Can someone please confim this?

Hey everyoneI'm thinking about buying the new 13" Spectre x360Do you know of any HP or even third party usb C adapters that have HDMI and ethernet ports using only 1 usb C port? Hey HP users.. I have a question (I didn't see this elsewhere).. But since the last Windows 10 Anniversary (1607) update I think there are some issues with the graphics..It doesn't happen always, but certainly a few times while working on the Spectre:I see that letters in text are being "colored black"..For example: letters with closed round corners like: a, b, p etc. etc. etc. the letter gets filled black.But when I just Alt+Tab to another screen or scroll in the document, it dissapears..Why is that? And are the current drivers already made compatible with this new Windows update? Hope to hear from you asap..

I'm putting in a new SSD in and when i try to install the operating system it fails at the installation phase (after partitioning and extracting windows files onto the ssd). there is no error message given, when it gets to installation phase it sais it is completed straight away, as with the subsequent phases and then attempts to boot windows (which obviously is not installed) to which i get "no boot device found". I notice now that the rating of the new ssd is 3.3v 2.7A and the old one is 3.3v 2.6A so im thinking it could be not enough power from the socket, but surely if this were the case then the install wouldnt have been able read and write to the ssd. after doing the above the repair windows tool can see an OS installed and when i select reset it starts and when it gets to about 34% (I will check in a minute whether its consistently 34) it sais there was a problem reseting but does not give an error message.  i have also tried it with windows 8 with the same happening.

Hi: I agree with you that if the power spec difference mattered, the drive wouldn't have worked at all, or the motherboard would have fried. Perhaps there is an issue with the storage controller driver...See if this works... Download the drivers from this link below first file listed -- 64 bit. https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25165/Intel-Rapid-Storage-Technology-Intel-RST-RAID-Driver Extract (copy) the files onto a usb flash drive without any folders. With the flash drive and W10 installation media plugged into the machine, boot from the W10 installation media. After you select the install now option, select the Drive Options - Advanced menu, then select the Load Driver option. You should now see the storage driver files listed. If you check the box, it will only include the compatible driver. Follow the prompts and hopefully, W10 will install.

Hi, Could someone tell me if HP 'officially' support Windows 10 for the HP Spectre x360?   I bought my HP Spectre x360 almost 2 months ago, whilst I have no issues with it (having not really used it hard so far), I wanted to upgrade to Windows 10 (clean install).  But at the time I purchased it, I spoke to HP Support and someone kindly recommended that I wait for a few months until both Microsoft sort out any teething problems (by releasing Service Pack 1 etc.) and HP was able to officially support all the drivers with genuine Windows 10 drivers.  At the time of purchase, not everything on the HP Spectre x360 had the correct Windows 10 drivers. This sounded like good advice to me at the time, so I have stayed with Windows 8 for now. When I finally do my upgrade, what is the recommended method?  Should I upgrade it first to register my copy of Windows 10 for my HP Spectre x360 with Microsoft and then do a clean re-install of Windows 10 (skipping the part where it asks me for my registration key)?  I have done many upgrades in my time and I am not really convinced or happy with an upgrade, a clean install is always best.  But do I need to do an upgrade first to register my copy of Windows 10 before I do a clean re-install? Finally, I plan to keep the recovery partition as it is, in case I ever need to go back to Windows 8.  Since I have a 512 GB SSD, I figure I have enough space to do this.  Would this be a r... Hi, Your machine is nearly the same as my loan machine. On my loan machine, it uses a SanDisk SD7SN6S-256G-1006      Which is  256 GB solid-state drive (SSD), M.2, TLC.  It does not have second bay (no connection). Your machine may use the same or different brand. You can check in Device Manager then find it out. Regards.

After updating to Windows 10 anniversary edition, my sound driver updated as well. With that update my led light will no longer come on when I press the mute button. I know its fairly trivial but I just bought this laptop and already got used to it as well so it's quite irritating to have something not working as intended already. Alas it is just a software issue so I hope it can be fixed. I've read multiple forums that says its related to the sound drivers. However I've downloaded and tried all 3 drivers on HP's website and the led light works for none. What other options am I left with?

Yesterday I was trying to fix my problem that photoshop cs6 did not recognize my dell active stylus. After browsing several forums, I was led to a firmware update for the touchscreen on the hp spectre x360 found on this page: http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-spectre-15-ap000-x360-convertible-pc/9256669/mode....I did not realize that this page was intended only for the 15.6" version of the spectre, which I do not have. I downloaded the firmware update for the FHD screen and ran it, but it failed to fully install. The problem afterwards is that this firmware update somehow corrupted the firmware that was already running on my version of the spectrex360, so the touchscreen no longer works. I checked in the device manager and there was no longer any HID-Compliant touch screen until I showed hidden devices and afterwards it said it was disconnected. I uninstalled the device to see if that might let the device manager find new firmware for it automatically, but this has just left me with no HID-Compliant touch screen device at all. The solution to this problem is extremely simple, yet HP has somehow overlooked it. I applied the BIOS Update F.32 Rev A using the HP Support Assistant. After applying the update my touch screen no longer works.HP Chat assist has only come up with the option to rebuild the machine. Has anyone else had problems with this BIOS Update?Is there anything I can do?Surely HP shouldn't provide this update for this model if it breaks it? Help appreciated.Peter

Hi Folks,    I have a spectre X360 and I am really happy with it.  Great product.  I recently updated the bios and it was really nice to be rid of the glowing keyboard light LED. There is an issue that has popped up though which is incredibly frustrating, like incredibly annoying, and I was wondering if anyone else has noticed this.  The keyboard response to typing a double letter (such as the t in letter) has gone down.  In other words my typing speed is now limited because the keyboard isn't as sensitive as it was prior to the bios update.  Does anyone know of a setting somewhere where I can increase the sensitivity of the keyboard so I'm not constantly going back to correct a missing double letter?  Please! argh it sucks so bad.  It has ruined my experience with this machine.  -Sam

My brand new spectre x360 (ash silver) wont update its intel drivers I tryed manually and it said Your computer already has the best drivers so no need for updating when the intel app clearly stated i needed to upgrade from 4377 drivers to 4501 drivers but it said this is  A customized computer manufacturer driver is installed on your computer. The intel driver update utility is not able to update the driver, Installing a generic driver instead of a customized computer manufactured driver may cause technical issues. Contact your computer manufacturer for the latest driver for your computer. Please someone help me with this and btw I bought this from Currys Pc world if that helps for any reason.

For the record, that KB article is > 1 month old (and predates patch (a), I think).
And lots of folks have upgraded to KIS/KAV/KTS 2017 under RS1 without issue.
BUT BUT Patch (b) has been in beta-testing for > 1 week, and is supposed to fix most of these issues:

I guess it's sort of like AU/RS1 itself: you'll have either no problems or some problems.

Having said that, I lean a bit closer to the cautious Luddite side than to the adventurous "bleeding edge" side of things.
So, I am still on Win10 1511 and KIS 2016 for a while longer.
At my age, I like to take things slow and steady....

We've set you PC back to where it was right before you started installing Windows 10
The installation failed in the SECOND_BOOT phase with an error during BOOT operation
What was tried: Connected straight to ethernet, Turned off wireless and Defender A/V, Removing the D/L files, D/L fresh from ISO file, launched install file, went through approx 50% and PC rebooted - nor stuck on black screen with swirling dots for OVER 4 hours with a brief HD access every couple of seconds.
Rebooted again -- still swirling dots on black screen. Tried again, same results.
Rebooted with F8 to get original Win 10 back.
Turned on "metered connection" option for WLAN to stop this update from happening. But now I cannot get and security updates for this machine.
Please suspend this D/L until fixed. Cannot afford to have no protection!

I cannot create a new folder on the desktop. Right click of the mouse pad does nothing. Shift Control N does nothing. This is ridiculous. Any help is appreciated.

Does right click work at all? Try right click on Start button and see if it produces a menu. Some people has experienced problems with their touch pad, try using a mouse and see if right click works.

Here is the Service Manual: Manual Pages 41-47 show removal of the service bay door and replacement of the hard drive. Just install the SSD in place of the hard drive. You can remove the mSSD drive. It is not useful with a main SSD drive. It was designed only to speed up a regular mechanical drive.  Do you have a Windows 10 installation disk? You can download an image file and create a Windows 10 DVD or thumb drive installation media from the Media Creation Tool Microsoft webpage.  Post back so I can see if you are with us here. We can take this a bit at a time rather than my writing War and Peace and you not understanding something.

Need some help... I had Windows 7 Ultimate on my pc then, I got the free copy of Windows 10 per Microsoft.
My system now is Windows 10 Pro version 1511 OS build (10586.633)
The anniversary update fails every time..... things that I have tried:
completely pause (stop) Norton Anti-virus
completely pause (stop) Malwarebytes
Clean boot

I build this pc about 5 yrs ago, never had a problem; here are the specs:

Intel i7 CPU 930 @ 3.0 ghz
12gb DDR3
Windows 64 bit
256 gb SSD drive for OS
2 tb drive for data

Any help will be appreciated;

When trying to do the update I am told that my version is 10586 and that I need to be at 14393. I tell it to go ahead and do the update and it gets to 2% and then it tells me something went wrong and gives me error code 0x80070005.

I know this is odd, but I saw this on another site and it has worked for me on 2 computers so far. Click on the anniversary update, let it check your system and then let it download the update. As soon as it starts to update, disconnect the wireless or LAN. It was able to update after this. Once it got past this section, I connected to the wireless again. About to do this with my 3rd computer. None were able to update before.

Ever since I upgraded my HP Spectre x360 notebook to Windows 10, I have not been able to use the Stereo Mix function to record audio produced by the machine. I need to do this for the work I do - making audio copies of speeches on television, for example - and have never struggled to activate the function on any other machine before. After extensive web searches, here are the things I already have tried: 1) Under Sound > Recording Devices in the Control Panel, right-clicked to show disabled and disconnected devices. The only device I see "Microphone - Intel Smart Sound Technology". Nothing else appeared. 2) Downloaded and installed the latest audio drivers provided by HP on its customer support page (it was the Realtek High-Definition (HD) Audio Driver 6.4.10041.130 Rev.A), released on 19 November 2015. Nothing new appeared. 3) Downloaded and installed the latest Realtek drivers from Realtek's own website at realtek.com.tw. Nothing new appeared. I'm prepared to muck about in the registry to force Windows to activate Stereo Mix, but I have no idea where to look. Is it significant that all my audio devices are listed as "Intel Smart Sound Technology" and not as Realtek? Does anyone have any ideas?

I have an xps 8700 desktop.
Will windows find most of the drivers?
If I enter my service tag and go to drivers will all the drivers that I need be there?
(I had an old Dell with Windows XP. I did a clean install on it once. I think there was one device that was listed as unknown. I put in the dell driver disk and it install most of the missing drivers I needed, as I recall. But you no longer get disks with Dell computers.)
Is there a place to download a drivers disk?
If I open Macrium Reflex, it shows that there are 5 partitions. One is the c: drive, one is PBR Image, one is wintools (I think). What are the other 2? They must be Dell partitions as I never created any partitions.
I looked up the model number of my harddrive and it appears to be a standard hard drive. Somebody said that there could be a small SSD that is used to help the other drive boot faster. If there was such a drive, wouldn't I see if I opened Optimizer? Or in Macrium Reflect?
The model number of my harddrive is WD10EZEX

I've having trouble installing the Windows 10 Anniversary Update.

The installation of the update seems to get to about 70% complete, then I get a BSOD saying "kernel security check failure".

Then the update system automatically rolls back my Windows installation to the pre-Anniversary Update version.

Not sure which driver is causing the problem. Hopefully, the attached logs will help to narrow down the problem.

Am I able to perform a clean install of Windows 10 using the same license I currently have on Windows 10? How would I obtain my current key, then? Is it s imply the Product ID listed under Control Panel>System ?

Can I download a copy of the installation media which already contains the AU update?

How would I install Windows 10 onto a M.2 drive? Is it as easy as picking the hard drive to install Windows on during setup?

You could just use "reset my pc".

Alternatively, create bootable usb stick or dvd

Windows 10

Boot from it, choose custom install, delete all partitions on drive you want to use (backup data first of course), and skip key entry as not needed as you have already upgraded.

Then the update system automatically rolls back my Windows installation to the pre-Anniversary Update version.

Not sure what is causing the problem.

Using dm_log_collector produces an empty zip file which is attached.

I suggest rolling back the Windows update that happened at the time the issue began. Settings-->Update & Security-->Update History --> check the date on the installed updates and then click on uninstall updates. The next window that opens will give you the option to click on a specific update and uninstall it.

I have a problem after installing the Anniversary Update of Windows 10. This post concerns the process which involves a clean re-install of Windows 10 by the method which includes downloading and running Microsoft's Media Creation Tool, choosing "Create Media for another PC". This downloads an ISO of Windows which, when put on a USB stick, can be used to boot the computer and clean-install Windows 10 (no license key required because Windows 10 was already running, although I have my license key.) I am told that this produces a "very clean" install which would clear any glitches in the previous install. Programs would need to be re-installed.

My question please: assuming that the Media Creation Tool will be downloaded after the Anniversary Update was installed, will it produce a Windows 10 + Anniversary Update version ?

PS: I wasn't able to create a Macrium System Image which would include the Anniversary Upgrade because my problem occurred immediately after the Update. If you are interested in what that problem is, go to:

Windows 10 Anniversary Update Might Hide Partitions After Install

One of the issues experienced by users after installing the Windows 10 Anniversary Update concerns partitions, as many of those who upgraded their computers reported that a number of partitions disappeared from File Explorer.

Furthermore, all partitions show up as RAW in Disk Management, which makes most people believe that all their data has been removed and nothing can be recovered.

Microsoft, however, claims that this is just a bug discovered in the Windows 10 Anniversary Update install system, and while no files are lost, it?s critical for users not to try to recover anything with third-party apps because this could lead to completely breaking down the partitions and removal of data.

?Microsoft is aware of this issue and is working on a solution to be released through Windows Update. Any data you have stored on the affected partition is still there. We recommend that you not try to recover or otherwise write data to the affected partition, nor should you format the partition,? the company says.




You can also downgrade in the meantime
Microsoft?s Sharath Srinivasa goes on to explain that a patch will be released to users when it?s available and states that users who do not want to wait for it can always downgrade to their previous Windows version. Hello Since the update to Windows 10, my multimedia keys (F6, F7 and F8) are not working anymore on my HP Spectre x360. I have found a few posts on this forum and therefore I already tried removing and reinstalling drivers for your touchpad and keyboard, both using this page and using the HP Recovery Manager tool. I just got the HP Spectre with Windows 10 installed. Frequently when i go to connect to a wireless network the network icon is not on the task bar (where it usually is) and there are no wireless networks displayed.  If I restart the icon will appear and i will see the wireless network. The computer has the Intel Dual Band Wireless AC-7265 adapter with the 18.11.0.8 driver dated 6/22/2015. I recently went through a detailed driver replacement recommendation from HP because my computer would not shut down, i would intermittently lose my wireless connection and my touchpad was not behaving correctly.  This was detailed inhttp://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-Systems-and-Software/Windows-10-Laptop-won-t-go-into.... Also when i do a restart it takes a very long time for the restart to happen (about 4 minutes) This is a new computer and it is not working well at all!  any assistance is appreciated

I have enabled 'Windows Hello' on this new laptop. About half the time I open it or turn it on, the unlock screen displays a message 'Getting ready...'. After about 30 seconds, it displays the message, 'Couldn't turn on the camera.' I updated the driver for the 'HP IR  Camera', with no improvement. Can anyone help diagnose or solve this problem?

I have a Packard Bell OneTwo S3221. It came factory installed with W7.

I upgraded to W10 last year after difficulty - upgrading to W10 via Windows update would not work, kept installing to a certain percentage then would reboot to a blank screen and freeze indefinitely, I needed to power off then on restart it would roll back to W7. This happened repeatedly despite trying all sorts - clean boots, uninstalling antivirus and updating drivers, etc.

I finally installed W10 using Media creation tool. Everything ran fine. But when the big update came in Novmember 2015 that failed to, in the same way as above, however all other monthly windows updates install fine.

Windows update never tried to push the Nov 2015 update on me again - I'm still on build 10240 now.

I was prompted to install the anniversary update by Windows update last week but that also failed in the same way as above. Download ok and begins installing fine, then at some point after 50% complete I get the blank screen indefinitely and have to power off, then it reverts back to W10 build 10240.

Having checked Packard Bell website my model is not supported by Packard Bell for W10, and they are not providing any drivers for it. This may explain the problems.

Can anyone suggest how to find out what the problem is and if there is a solution? I've tried looking in Update history for error codes, but there is none, it doesn't even show an attempt to install the anniversary update. Like i said every other ... Read more

Hi, simplest answer is avoid windows update and create the appropriate bootable medium or iso and use it as you did before.
As you know plenty of people have this sort of problem.

Note that the upgrade can introduce new issues for some (search the net), and some are delaying because of that. Older machines like yours could well exhibit such problems. So before you make this change, I recommend you create a disk image of your existing setup - a procedure you should do routinely anyway- to give another way of restoring your system.
E.g. Macrium Reflect (free) + its boot medium + external storage for images.

It's best to have a physical bootable medium as it covers all of:
a. if you need to repeat the installation
b. as a bootable medium for recovery options
c. in case you need to do an in-place upgrade repair install

without taking up disk space.

I have tried multiple times times to install the Windows 10 Pro, Anniversary Update to my desktop computer, a Dell Inspiron 560. Every time, the result has been a computer that will not start-up, ie. Windows does not appear to load/run. I have tried the WURepair tool and tried to repair the System Registry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SOFTWARE>Microsoft>Windows NT>ProfileList, all to no avail. I have had to restore my system with an previous Image to get it operational again. Has anybody else had this problem and been able to come up with an answer?

One advice I can provide here would be to try a different method for either update by upgrade or planned clean install which doesn't seem to be what you have been looking for. When the Redstone 1 update didn't even arrive here for 3 separate desktops as well as a recently new laptop where 10 came already on not seeing the update still lead to fail of the MC Tool to see the immediate online upgrade take place or create the usb media needed.

Twin solutions were then sought! The first in order to see all machines updated was to download the "windows.iso" by way of the MC Tool which equals both the 32bit and 64bit flavors for both the Home and Pro editions. We call that a "4 in 1" type of download that covers everyone.

The second item on the agenda did opt to use a 3rd party program not the Windows option to mount the iso downloaded onto each machine or run from a flash drive where the setup.exe main executable would be manually started to watch each upgrade install take place. Once all systems were set which included one desktop only lately being upgraded from 7 Home Premium to 10 Home and then still waiting for the update to go on before return to owner was to visit a MS download iso type page to grab both the 32bit and 64bit smaller Dual Edition iso downloads to keep onhand.

I just installed the Windows 10 Anniversary Update on my laptop and there is now a blank (white or black, the color changes) line going across what appears to be the exact middle of the screen.  The line is not solid and actually changes the parts that are working (correct color) and not working (wrong color, white or black).  It looks like the line is only one pixel high but it goes acorss the whole screen.  I need to be running the annivaersay update so I have not tried reverting back yet.  I will update this thread when I have a chance to give that a try.  Is anyone else experiencing this problem?  Any other ideas to try and fix it?  Is this a good excuse to update to the Razer Blade Stealth? Thanks! Shawn

What's the difference between the HP Spectre x360 and the HP Envy x360? They both look the same.The only noticeable difference is that HP Spectre x360 has a Radiance Infinity display, while HP Envy x360 has an IPS display. Having the same specs, except for the display, why is the Spectre x360 more expensive than the Envy x360 ? Moreover, I thought that IPS is better than TN, which is my guess that is the technology used for the Radiance Infinity.

Every time I try to open MS Edge, it is so slow and sometimes won't even open. Also whenever I want to open one of my favorites that I imported from IE it gives me a security warning asking me if I want to allow downloading of this file. How can I fix these two things ?

Hi, my spectre x360 just out of warranty and will no longer charge the battery! Charger checked and working. When plugged into laptop, symbol appears to show connection but then states not charging. Battery nearly flat now but diagnostics state batter condition ok. Would appreciate any ideas to resolve please but I am not considered computer literate just general working knowledge!

New owner of HP Spectre x360 - 13-4003dx here. I want to ask if the bottom of the laptop, the area above the fan openings where the FCC info/text lies, is supposed to creak when I press it slightly. I first heard this noise when I took my laptop out of the sleeve and held that area. At first I thought it was just rubbing against the sleeve, but after further examination, that is not the case. If this occurs with other models of the Spectre, it is a bad build quality, I am not sure which component is under there, but I want to know if the creaking noise is normal with only a slight press along the text area. Thanks.

Hello, Last winter purchased a convertible lenovo laptop. The first one had faulty hinges, I had it replaced on the same day I brought it in and the second one had faulty hinges and a faulty touchpad. So, I decided to ditch the cheaper computers and splurged on a HP spectre x360 from Best Buy. I live 200 kilometres away from large retail stores like this so getting back and forth is quite difficult, Staples was very understanding about the Lenovo laptops, however Best Buy told me there was nothing I could do when I described the problems I was having with my brand new HP. Several months went by and I avoided using the computer as much as possible in order to avoid facing the mistake I made in purchasing it. Eventually, my old computer became completely obsolete and I had no choice but use this HP.  My problems were not limited in any way. They ranged from an extremely annoying touchpad that sounded loose and made strange noises, the fact that the screen was closing on an odd angle, and the fact the the screen could barely stay open. A slight touch or even shifting the laptop would cause the screen to move. I could forgive these flaws if I had abused this computer or if it had received heavy usage, however I barely even turned the thing on. I tried twice, and it failed twice. 2nd time it became clear that the Razer Synapse software (recent purchase of a discount keyboard) was causing the issue. So, I've uninstalled that. Fine, so now I go to hit the update button again, but Windows tells me it's up to date? I know for a fact it isn't, because it just told me it could not install the update and reverted to the previous version. What gives?
So, I can see it has downloaded the update to the '$WINDOWS.~BT' folder, but it will not trigger by running the 'setup.exe' file. My question is, how do I proceed now? How do I trigger the update I've downloaded to install, when Windows seems to have decided it's already installed it?

Greetings, I just bought the HP spectre x360 with the i7 processor, and I've tried over 100 times to register a right click on the trackpad and it has failed to do every single time. I have read several articles complaning about the width being the problem to the right click, but mine has failed to register. period. I went into the control panel to try to disable it then enable once again in hopes to it working, but nothing has changed. I have only been able to register a "right click" by holding down on the touchscreen which is fairly inconvienent. I would like to see this problem fixed because I do enjoy everything else about this laptop, but that is a major flaw for me. Thank you.

I have bought my HP Spectre x360 - 13-4002dx on 3rd MAy 2015 the expiry ended 1 year later. it was working perfectly but one week after Warrenty expired it stopped working no 'charging light' not getting switched on,nothing.It is such a premium product and the quality is so questionable. I purchased an HP Spectre 15 x360 in March 2016 and have been struggling with freezing/lock ups since then. I have tried updating all drivers but this hasn't fixed the problem. Almost daily, the screen freezes, the cursor shows a "busy" signal, and Windows does not recover. I have to do a full shutdown and restart, and lose all my work. I haven't been able to pinpoint what is causing this freezing. This has been a problem since the laptop was first received, so I am wondering if there is a hardware problem. I have exactly the same problem. I have bought my "Hp Spectre x360 13 inch, i7, ram 16, Hard 512 solid" less than a month ago from Bestbuy in NJ. From my first use, I found that it gets so hot after less than half a hours which my leg feels burning. I still didn't install a heavy program or compilers and I am using this laptop only for surfing the internet or writing text in the Microsoft word. Please help me for this issue.

My Spectre was heating up during idle. I use RealTemp to monitor temperature and set alarm for 180F. It was hard to catch the culprit, because it stopped as soon as I moved the mouse or keyboard to check.  I finally used Process Monitor to track CPU during idle and discovered that it was Norton 360 which does aggressive system checking during idle. I like Norton and the way it checks and rates download executable files. Setting lower priority for Norton doesn't do anything and I don't really want to do that anyway. And I don't want to inhibit the system checking. So, now I leave my Spectre on my homemade vacuum pad during idle to solve that problem. *sigh* I need a way to throttle back aggressive programs as a function of temperature.

I have had my X360 for about a year but just recently it's really running hot after a short time of use.   I have turned it completely off overnite instead of putting it in sleep mode and it still runs hot.   I have it currently leaning so there is absolutely nothing blocking the vents in the back and it's still super hot.   What am I to do to cool it down and is there something that HP is doing to fix this issue?

Not sure exactly where to put this but here goes. Recently registered for a HP Student account to get a student discount on a new laptop. When on the student store home page there's a section for new student deals/offers which lists the HP Spectre 13-4108na x360 (i5-6200U, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD) as being 799 with 100 off. Problem is when I click to view the offer in the store or to shop for the offer I can't find it anywhere in the presented list of laptops, it just doesn't make sense to me that the product is listed and advertised as being on offer if I can't actually purchase it ...

Hello, I just received my i7 model of the HP Spectre X360 today and after a short period of use on the computer the upper left corner of the body of the computer becomes very hot, so much that resting it on part of my body becomes unbearable. I had read up on the notebook before buying it and the only mention of any issue of this sort was in a pros/cons list in one review that merely stated that "the bottom runs warm." Thus I was not expecting this level of heat while using the laptop rather casually, as the most intensive thing I was doing was streaming videos. Is this normal for what I am doing on this laptop? It's not the worst problem but it is definitely worrisome as I am planning on using this laptop for the next four years or so. Thank you all in advance!

I know that you don't officially suport linux on that computer, but it would be fun to be at least linux compatible. Thing I know:There was a bug that really look like this one on the Dell XPS 13. The bug was in the bios, wich was setting the sound card to alternative mode that was not working. I think is the same here. I need to find a way to tell the bios to load everything like if it is windows 8.1 (Yeah, I just ask no special treatement!)  Thank you,I will give all support you need. I SOLVED IT! After hours of pain, i can now use the built in soundcard with headphones, as well as the internal speakers. HOW TO: Edit grub config by doing:'sudo vim /etc/default/grub' Edit the line:GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash'" To:GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi_backlight=vendor acpi_osi='!Windows 2013' acpi_osi='!Windows 2012'" Then run:'sudo update-grub' Reboot TWO times. BOOM! I have an HP Spectre x360 with a 2 year ADP coverage. I purchased the laptop in US... but I am currently employed and working in India. My screen has got damaged and needs to be replaced, but the local service center is unable to verify the ADP care pack details in India. I purchased this laptop after doing my research that the product is marketed in India and will be supported here. However, now the local tech support is saying that the Family name - pike1.0 not available in India and the laptop cannot be serviced even if the ADP is avaiable. As per the ADP contract, HP Support can courier the necessary parts to the local service center and my laptop can be serviced. How do i resolve this issue?

Hello everyone,so suddenly and for reason my laptop (HP Spectre X360) stopped workin  and it shows no sign of life anymore, the only led works now is the charging led, when I plug in my charger it lits in white that's it!! no other lights or any feedback from the pc!! it's less than 6 months old now and never had any issues with it before! I went to bestbuy and they said it might be the motherboard that needs to be replaced, so idk if anyone of you had the issue before? and if the motherboard has been replaced would I lose all my data? and do they even need to access my data to replace the motherboard??thanks,,,

Hi, just ordered the Spectre x360 after a lot of googling around about it's active pen support.  I haven't been able to find the official "HP Active Stylus" in my country (Norway), which I've read quite a bit of negativity about anyways, however I found one named "HP Pro Tablet Active Pen" (K8P73AA) which according to a reply by an HP employee in an older thread (http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Software-and-How-To-Questions/Spectre-x360-Active-Pen-Stylus-C...) is supposedly supported by the Synpatics digitizer in the x360. The official documentation however, has no mention of this. I've also read an overwhelming amount of feedback that a recent firmware update disabled the support for the Dell stylus which many apparently found success in, so this is another reason I am uncertain. Could this update have disabled the support for the other HP styluses as well? Before i go out and spend a lot of money on this pen I was wondering whether someone has tried the HP Pro Tablet Active Pen themselves on the x360, or whether any HP employee could confirm this compatibility. hi,i recently bought HP Spectre x360 with highest specs an. d i'm facing some real serious issues with the touchpad / clickpad. as many others in this forum and reviewers pointed out, the clicks are not being recognized. In my case, I'd say it is around 50% of the clicks don't get registered and I have to click again to make it work. That is really frustrating and enough to make me come here and post this question. I really like the laptop and this is exactly what I've been looking for but this clickpad is a real deal breaker. I followed some suggestions on this forum and also tried some troubleshooting myself (since i myself is a support engineer) but to no avail. I changed the synaptics settings to try and remove too much intelligence from the touchpad and at least get the basic functionality right, but i continue to miss the clicks. I also tried replacing the driver with synaptic one but the problem continues, which tells me that it is something related to the hardware piece than the software / driver. can someone here please help me with this? if i hadn't liked the laptop, i wouldn't bother posting here to try and find a solution, i'd simply get rid of it and go with lenovo yoga 3 pro or something else. but this laptop has really high build quality and classy looks, but probably killed by this $25 buggy piece of hardware.

I recently acquired an HP x360 Spectre 15t (about 5 days ago).  During charging I noticed that the charger plug is quite warm/hot.  Using a laser temp gun, I measured the hottest point of the plug to be 152F.  The average temp reading seems to run around 128F (scanning different points on plug). Is this normal for thie plug to be running at this temperature while charging? Thanks, WW

I have purchased my Spectre x360 back in 2015,  and i have been using it for less than a year. So far, the laptop experience have been rather satisfying. Apart from experiencing minor glitches initially, the updates helped and the laptop worked just fine and smoothly. Though, the speakers stil have rattling sound when played loudly.  Until recently, couple weeks back the laptop went haywire as i was doing my assignments. Without any signs to indicate any mechanical problems, the whole system just shut down. i couldn't switch it on, nor could i even charge it. So i have called up the service centre, and since it is still under warranty, they have replaced the motherboard. On the bright side, I did not lose any datas or files. However, I have discovered my case wasn't the first to happen as there was one earlier case which was much severe. The laptop's motherboard literally burnt. The bottom part was all black and all data was lost  . The following image was the default in my product that has occured recently.   Hope to receive advise and any precautionary steps to avoid this mishap. Twice today, my laptop set idle and all of a sudden it started to open windows like someone was hacking the computer.  I turned off the wi-fi and it showed windows with scripts opening mainly on the left bottom corner of the screen.  I bought this laptop 4 days ago and I've not loaded much on it.  Has anyone had this problem?  When I turn it to tablet mode it stops.  I have videos of it if needed.

Unfortunately our machine is 1 year + 1 month old and they won't give us a break on the repair. They estimate that it would be $300. I agree with many folks on this topic that this is a design issue and they need to do a recall instead of having their customers pay to replace the faulty parts.

Also most posts were about a year old and so i wondered if anyone had more uptodate experience? The Samsung seem to have many models, just paying more for faster read/write speeds but dont know how important this is and whether machine can support any or all of these speeds?

Hi!I'm just experiencing some issues with my recently bought laptop. It is probably nearly 2 months old, and this is happening as I type this.  I am charging my laptop and it's been, say 30 minutes since charging and the charger is really hot! It's keeping me warm in this cold winter I could say.  Is there something wrong with it? Should I unplug even though it's charged up to 85% ... Hello ,First I want to say that I tried contacting HP sales in 5pm they said that they are working from 8am to 2 am which is already a warning sign ...I am planning on buying HP Spectre x360 ash silver.I love how it looks and also the performance is really good for the money.My concern is that I have read so many complains of cracked screen from itself ( design flaw or uncalculated pressure on the screen or heating up too much , something is causing the screens to crack ...) Hp hasn't made official statement on this issue and so far I understood that the warranty doesn't cover it.I don't want to spend so much money on something that will break from itself and the warranty won't cover it.Is there someway to include this issue in the warranty before buying the laptop?

My Spectre X360 is becoming extremely warm in the bottom upper left. It is to warm to have on my lap and I am worried about the computer becoming too hot. The laptop was bought only a month ago and I have yet to use it for any extensive purpose. Is this just a problem with this model or just mine? I just purchase a HP Spectre x360 and the HP Active pen from Best Buy.  Great laptop but I have noticed that I need to press VERY hard before the pen responds. If I don't press hard, then pen strokes appear very light.   When I cross H's or T's the cross doesn't register.   If i put the laptop in Tablet mode, then I can get the letters to appear as expected.  But when Writing on the screen in regular "laptop" mode or "Tent mode", the letters appear as "chicken" scratch I didn't find any settings for adjusting the Pen's Sensitivity in windows or one note. I would prefer that the pen behave more like a finger.  Just more precise.

Great laptop, put it through a lot of testing in my first weekend of owning it and I'm quite pleased overall. This issue has nothing to do with the laptop itself but rather the included sleeve, which I'm also pleased was included as other brands/models I checked out did not include a sleeve. However... it smells really awful.  I mean it's really an exceptionally terrible rubbery type odor.  And it's not as if it's only when I put my nose up to it or even handle it.  It can just be sitting a few feet away from me and I smell it.  I tried washing it by hand, figuring it's just an extreme example of factory chemicals or materials not being completely washed away before packaging.  This act may have reducded the smell by 20-25%, but the stench was still very noticeable so I put it through a wash in the washing machine.  Again, it's possible it's reduced the smell down to 50% of what it started as, but it's still pretty ridiculous how bad this thing smells. Has anyone had the same experience?  Have you had better luck in removing the smell?  I'm sure someone will suggest that it's free and maybe not worth the effort and therefore to just look into a different sleeve but I like it aside from the odor and would like to be able to keep it for some extra protection / padding even once I decide on a method for carrying the device around if possible.  But it will not be worth it if I can't get rid of the odor.

Anybody knows if it's possible replace the laptop's SSD with another M.2 but pcie? I have read in some forum on internet that's possible but i'm not sure because i bought a Samsung SM951 e i tried to mount but the notebook does not see it!!!!The laptop's M.2 connector is it compatible with pcie? Can i replace my SSD with one pcie?I updated BIOS to  rev F.25 but nothing. Can you identify where you tried to put the mSSD by reference to the Manual here: Manual See p. 28. It uses M.2 SATA drives and if the drive you installed is a PCIe type it will not be recognized. AHCI type drives only as far as I can see. I know only the very most recent desktop motherboards will boot from a pcie M.2 mSSD. If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

Hi after being bounced back to and fro from various departments of HP I'm still unable to get Pen support on my Spectre x360 13t-4200 model. I've came a few people that didn't have the firmware but were able to download it for their 15t series,  but so far I get a failed operation when I try to install the firmware. The same pen works on my sister's last year's model. Hi All,I have a Spectre X360 (13-4014TU)  that runs the Intel i7-5500U , 256GB ADATA SSD, 8Gb RAM and Win 10-64. It is a great little unit and has become my main work horse for my business. As I am running out of Disk space, I wanted to upgrade the SSD to 512GB but I have noticed that Intel have launched a 540S Series 1tb M.2 drive for a little bit more than the cost of the Samsung 512gb  unit. However, I want to know if the upgrade will work before I invest the $ required. The two questions that I can't get an answer to are:1. The intel unit is double sided. Its thickness is 3.58mm  compared to the 2.32mm thickness for single sided SSD - WILL IT FIT in the X360 ssd gap? 2. Will the  BIOS of the x360 address the 1tb memory? The x360 has the F.32 BIOS running on the 802D 58.51 system board. Has anyone else experienced fitting a 1tb to an X360? Any recommendations? ThanksFrank

Similar qualities as the HP Active Pen (which are not sold on my country) but with better reviews. I have had no opportunity to use my pen, as it is not recognized in any way by the screen.I have also installed the Anniversary edition of Windows 10 with better Pen Support and it still doesn't recognizes my pen. My configuration is:Windows 10 ProPen and Touch Support with 10 Touch Points

Hi,  Is Dell stylus support HP machines mentioned on its specs ? You are asking HP to support another vendor's product here. From my view: No HP won't support other vendor's products unless HP does not have equivalent products.Dell may be very happy for HP (or other competitors) to support its products, it will sell more and laughing to the bank.Regards.
