Keyboard and multiple devices in device manager

Q: Keyboard and multiple devices in device manager

Hello, everyone.

I noticed a problem in my keyboard recently, but i'm not sure if it's really on the keyboard, and might be in the windows or software related. The problem is that the keyboard randomly starts freezing, it's hard to explain with words, basically the keys do not operate in the way they should, i notice this problem usually when i'm playing games, where my "W" that should move my character forward continuously. does not, instead of doing what it's supposed to do my character goes forward while freezing along the way. When i unplug, and plug it again on the USB port, even on a different one, the keybord start to operate normally again, but randomly shows this problem from time to time. It's not only with the "W" key, was just an example.

I noticed something yesterday, i don't if it's supposed to be that way, and i can't find any information about, it's that on device manager it shows multiple devices on the keyboard section, when the device is connected, as it shows in the image below:

One more thing, is all of them looks like the same thing, but i'm not sure if they really are, image below:

If i uninstall all of them, except that one that i marked with purple, he is the 4th one in the first image, the keyboard still operates, i'm not sure if the problem is fixed by that, cause it does not happen all the time.

Now that i described everything, i want to ask 2 questions:

1) Showing these multiple devices is normal? Cause i plugged another keyboard, and it shows just 2 instead of 5, not sure but the 1st one in the first image is always there, even without not having any keyboard plugged. The other keyboard plugged, for tests, is just a normal one, and the one that i'm using and showing the "problem" is a Multilaser Warrior TC196. I've also plugged my keyboard into another computer, and he creates instantly all 4 devices (I'm excluding the first one that is always there for some reason).

2) If it's not, there's anyway that i can uninstall all those 4 others, except the one marked with purple, without allowing the windows to reinstall them after reset? I don't really know if this "multiple devices" is the problem, but i guess i could test uninstalling all of them, except the one that i mentioned and preventing the windows from reinstalling them somehow.

And if anyone has any another suggestion, already experienced this problem or similar, feel free to drop the suggestion here.

Thanks in advance
Alstreim.

i have installed the correct driver for this belkin bluetooth usb dongle model: F8T012XX1

but in device manager, it has the belkin device and microsoft bluetooth enumerator, which is great. but when u get further down the list. it has a tab named "other devices" and then a subtab with "bluetooth peripheral device" which has an exclemation mark on it.

i have searched for driver software using the update service but it cant find no update.

i have looked for the name of the manufacturer but found nothing.

i then disabled the unknown device, and sent a picture to my mobile phone. which confirmed that it was not the belkin bluetooth device. so i uninstalled the unknown device, restarted the computer. then when i logged in, it said that it had found a new device and wanted me to find the CD that came with it..

i would be greatful if any1 could help me on this..

thanks in advance

Hi!

I have two USB audio devices that I cannot seem to properly install drivers for.
Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 & KORG MicroKONTROL

I am in communication with both product tech support teams but so far they have not offered a successful solution. As the same issue is occurring with multiple devices I thought it might be an OS issue.
I run Win 7 Home Premium x64

The problem is as follows:

The product drivers install correctly without error. However, instead of showing up in the Device Manager in either USB Controllers or Sound Controllers they both show in Other Devices with a yellow exclamation mark.
I have tried the following fix from this site (USB Driver - General Fix for Problems) and this actually enabled me to access a portable HDD that wasn't working, but it didn't fix the issue for my 2 audio devices.
I have also tried right clicking on the devices in Other Devices, selecting Driver Update. I then find the correct drivers listed but when I hit install I get the following error message on both:
"Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it. One of the installers for this device cannot perform the installation at this time."

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

A:Audio USB Devices showing under Other Devices in Device Manager

Could it be the two devices are competing with each other and the driver installer gets confused? Details on the devices and the needs to use two of the same type probably would be helpful.

I'm trying to fix an hp pavillion dv6704nr laptop running windows vista home premium. It has the little red x on the speaker in the lower right hand corner. The owner said it has been there for some months. I have tried downloading the current audio drivers for the computer but every time I try to install the driver, I get an error that says the device couldn't be found.

The first time i restarted the computer, after the driver installation failed, the audio came back and worked fine, until I had to restart the computer. Now I keep getting the same error and nothing i have found so far online has helped.

There are no yellow triangles in the device manager and the device list isn't showing the category for "sound, video and gaming etc." at all.

Please help. I did a search but the other threads didn't solve this problem for me.
Thanks in advance.

I see three different audio driver packages at http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwar...ct=3646926#N661.You need to find the right one to install. If you install one and the system doesn't work properly...please uninstall it before trying the next one.Installing the wrong one won't do anything harmful to your system...it just won't do any good to leave it installed.Louis

I have a Toshiba laptop, model L505-ES5018. I had Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit installed on here, but decided to reformat my hard drive using Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. After the reformat was finished, I ran Windows Update and it found several items to download and install for me. I noticed that it also found optional items to download and install for me, so after all the important updates installed, I ran the optional updates. After all of this installed, I checked Device Manager to see if there were any errors and I found nothing. I assumed everything was fine. I decided to check Devices and Printers and under my laptop icon, there was a yellow icon with an exclamation point on it. I decided to run the troubleshooting option when I right-clicked the icon....it gave me a solution to download a Toshiba password utility program, so I did that and nothing happened, even after restart. Same icon appeared. When I clicked on the icon a second time, I noticed that the model of my computer at the bottom of this window, changed from L505 to TIAS. I have no idea what this is. I decided to do another reformat on my hard drive. This time, I ignored the optional updates. I checked Devices and Printers again, the same icon appeared but the model of my computer said L505, like it should. There is something in the optional updates that is changing this. Could it be the Intel chipset driver that the optional update is pushing? I'm not sure. I went back to Device Manager, th... Read more

Any takers??

Usually someone answers my questions just enough to get me in the right direction. I have successfully fixed three different towers with TechSpot members' help. Hopefully I will continue to have the same luck.

My PC (Windows XP) has a problem -- in device manager, all of the imaging devices are in broken state. They are listed under imaging devices, but they have the dreaded yellow circle and question mark on them.

This began to be a problem only fairly recently, with my scanner. Can't scan; get an error message. This is true despite replacing my previous scanner.

In Device Manager, the properties screen for the scanner (as imaging device, it's a multi-purpose and is working fine as a copier and printer) says:

"Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)

Click troubleshoot etc."

I've been through the whole troubleshoot menu, with no results. Also been on the phone with HP tech and did the whole uninstall and reinstall thing (again) and it did no good. He told me it's a PC problem and I need to ask Dell about solving USB controller or BIOS issues.

Anyone have any idea what is going on inside my PC, and how I can go about fixing this? Thanks for reading and any advice.

Two of the four USB ports in my motherboard were not working properly. After plugging in any USB device it would recognize something was there, try to find a driver for it, but fail at doing so. These are plug and play devices I had never had problems with before. The device manager said the SM bus was not installed properly. I reinstalled the chipset driver and that fixed one of the USB ports; however, one is still not working. When I plug in any USB Device there is no audible ding, no "this device is not recognized" pop-up, and it isn't even showing up as 'unknown device' in the Device Manager. I'm not sure what could be wrong.

USB devices attempted:
1x Wired Mouse,
3x USB thumb drives
1x USB external hard drive

All devices are USB 2.0. The malfunctioning port is USB 2.0

Hi,

Windows 7 64 Bit, does not detect ANY network adapters. We installed windows in August and it has been fine, now for some reason it simply doesn't detect any adapters at all and does not display a Network Adapters heading in the device manager folder tree.

The hardware in question is an onboard LAN card on a ASUS Sabertooth X58 motherboard, the lan card is listed in the bios as a RTL8110SCLAN

I have checked to be sure that the device is enabled in the BIOS, as well as disabling other on board devices in case there was some kind of conflict. I also tried installing an add on LAN card and that card is not detected either. I have also reset the bios and removed the battery etc. I have tried reinstalling the chipset and other drivers and I have uninstalled windows updates that happened near the time the network adapter vanished.

I used RKILL and ran ComboFix and Malwarebytes to clean up a few minor virus/spyware files. But that too has not helped.

This is my first post, but I have been a big fan for a long time you guys do great things.

Please help before I get any more grey hair.

That occurred with my ATI 9600 .All I did was delete both in device manager ,then reboot ,Cancel the auto-reinstallation by windows and use the Hardware Wizard to install your drivers. You choose the drivers you want installed from a fie or disk.
ATI websays you can also do this by using the Update driver tab in Device manager and and again force Windows to use your drivers.
There are 2 instances of My 9600 in device manager because it supports more than 1 Display(Digital,Analogue) It is probable the same for you.

Since installing WP Pro SP2 on my laptop I've noticed 3 big yellow question marks in device manager for Network controller, SM Bus controller and Video controller. Despite these problems I can use the laptop as part of a network and video display seems OK until I try to video edit on Avid, which refuses to display moving video and flags up a warning about the video card.

I've been trying to re-install the driver for the ATI mobility radeon 9000 (64MB) adapter and get an error message that an INF file is missing and to try installing a standard VGA card. I know from other posts that this is a common problem. So far I've tried re-installing the SIS AGP driver followed by the ATI driver. No luck. I'm wondering if the fact that 3 devices have a problem since (I think) 'upgrading' to XP Pro SP2 from XP Home originally mean that the problem is to do with the OS.

Would it help to re-install or repair the OS assuming that this is the root of the problem?

Thanks.

I clean installed an ASUS Laptop Model a2500h, Windows XP Home edition SP3.

There are two drivers that I can't seem to locate. The Hardware ID's are as follows.

ACPI\WEC0515
ACPI\WEC0517\4&19A7495A&O

I know ASUS often has utility programs that show up as drivers, for example I had the ACPI\ATK0100 which was listed as an UNKNOWN DEVICE, and I installed that utility fine.

I am just not sure about the other two. I was told on another forum that it could be something to do with the sound drivers, but I suspect it is one of ASUS' little utility programs.

Any help would be appreciated. Also if any additional info is required, let me know and I will post it.

A:Device Manager 2 Unknown devices Help?

You can go to asus's official website to download drivers, in most cases is a sound card problem.Or you can go to download a "My Drivers", to another similarly configured machine up a backup drive, then copy to your computer up.Good luck.

So, I'm really baffled as to how to fix this problem. I've scanned for viruses and spyware, came up with pretty much nothing. I've tried resetting tcp/ip and winsock (netsh stuff). I've tried sfc /scannow. I've tried uninstalling each device, but they just stay there. Any ideas? Is there any way to do a repair install to vista like you could with XP?

I recently uninstalled a usb logitech headset and tried to put my old analog headset back in and it would not work. I then detected through view on device managers the invisable driver and also uninstalled it. It still will not work and when I do a driver detector scan I still show having

"USB Composite Device - Logitech USB Headset"
"USB Mass Storage Device - U3 Cruzer Micro"

They are under "Unplugged Devices".

I am using a trial version of Driver Detective to find these and don't want to buy it. So I was wondering if these two(for sure the first one) need to be uninstalled before I can hook up another headset how else could I go about uninstalling them? Or would another usb headset just install over them without a problem?

A:Device manager hidden devices.

If you have uninstalled all of those, and;

You don't have anything else from Logitech/Cruzer,
just go to Start->Run->Regedit
then Edit->Find->Find next

Delete everything.
Reboot.
Pray.

EDIT:

No problem is so huge (in these small spheres) that it couldn't be solved with free software.

So never ever go buy anything unless you area SURE it is exactly what you need.

Hello, running W7 64-Bit

My USB Controller Devices all have a Exclamation mark except two. Which is why I'm able to use my USB mouse and keyboard.

I can fix the problem, though only temporarily, by uninstalling all the USB Devices with Yellow Exclamation marks, and refreshing. Problem solved, yet when I reboot, those same USB Devices have a yellow exclamation mark again. I have to continue this cycle.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

After uninstalling and then updating my graphics card drivers, I decided to plug in an external USB hard drive into one of my USB ports. Windows XP Pro notified me that new hardware was found:

other PCI Bridge Device
PCI Memory Controller
SM Bus Controller

Consequently, no drivers could be found so now under ?Other Devices? in Device Manager, these three devices are shown with a question mark and exclamation point.

Obviously, I need drivers for these devices. Do I need to install drivers for a Lacie USB hard drive? Or does this have something to do with what I did with my graphic card drivers?

Thanks in advance!

Hi TrashDept and welcome to Bleeping Computer.Hard to say without knowing which model drive you bought. Didn't it come with a manual? Did it come with a disk for installing drivers?HERE is a link to the manufacturer's website. There is a .pdf manual link at the bottom of the page. Of course, if you bought a different model you will need to surf around their site to find the info.

Does anyone else have these two Unknown Devices in their XPS 13 device manager? I don't recall removing anything that would cause this and the system can't find any device drivers for it nor does updating the drivers from the dell web site resolve it. There isn't any current function that we're using that isn't working so I'm not sure what category of thing these are and the hardware ID's aren't of the expected format so they don't reveal anything either.  Everything is unplugged and wireless is turned off(airplane mode on) so these are not external items.

I am having a slight issue with my new setup, appears to be driver-side. Every time I restart my computer a window pops up stating that a driver could not be installed for "IDE channel." This box appears six times in which I have to close out. There are six of these "IDE channel" devices listed (under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers) in the Device Manager w/ the little (!) next to them. When I go to install a driver for each of the devices I get "driver is not intended for this platform" or something like that. I don't know what I should do because I'm really not sure what I am looking at exactly. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Also, I've installed all the drivers for my motherboard, graphics cards, and sound card ...all of which work fine. In the Device Manager, I am also seeing two "PCI device" and a single "Unknown" device. The only PCI card I have installed is the Sound Blaster and I installed the drivers for that; it works fine. No idea what the "Unknown" is...

Hello there,
I am having problems with a pcie ethernet card- It sometimes phisically disconnects and connects again i think. I was wondering either it is possible to see device manager events in the windows Event Viewer. Is it possible to see things like that in there? Also for example usb devices connection/ disconnection etc? I Would aprichiate any help.

A:Logging devices change in device manager

You can go to Device Manager, highlight the device, and then under the Actions menu choose "Scan for Hardware Changes".
But I doubt that will shed any light on why it is disconnecting. That usually just tells you if the driver has changed.

Event Viewer will only log Windows errors, so if the hardware causes an event that triggers a Windows error it would be there then.

It would be good to know what manner of 'disconnecting' you are dealing with.
If the device is disconnecting from the system (power or installation problem) you could observe Device Manager to see if the device disappears there when it disconnects. This will prove it is a hardware problem.

But if you mean that the card is dropping the network connection that would be another animal altogether.

Hi,

When Windows is configured to show ghosted devices (non-present devices) it shows a number of missing devices - at least on my machine. So my question is how to decide what to remove in order to improve boot time?

I've managed to figure out that the Avast legacy driver entries are okay to remove along with a few other entries that were related to previously installed software. It seems that Avast's own aswclear removal tool left them behind!

Anyway, currently system restore is disabled on my machine (I make system image backups) and I see numerous entries under "Storage Volume Shadow Copies" and "Storage Volumes" - is it safe to remove these? Is there any way that "Storage Volumes" could be related to encrypted drives?

A:Remove Ghost Devices - Device Manager

Solved.

I decided to remove non present devices - other than system devices and a couple of non plug and play devices. Rebooted and everything is ok.

Storage Volume Shadow Copies has vanished but under Storage Volumes - Generic Volumes re-appear when new drives are connected.

Hello there,

i am trying to install a webcam for my friend. Every time we try to donwload the software to install the thing, it installs and then says that there is no webcam detected.

I have tried all 5 USB ports, reinstalled the driver 7 times through web and CD. Have bought two new cameras. Have done everything under the sun and now i ask for your help.

I think the problem is that Imaging Devices isnt a catagorie. The webcam (Creative Live! Vista Cam) is on 'Other' section of device manager. When i go to repair it, it completes and calls the driver Composite USB Device. if i close this and re-open it, it says the error again.

What can i do for help!

Thank you for your time

A:No imaging devices catagorie in Device Manager

There won't be an Imaging Devices section until an imaging device is installed properly on the computer.

It sounds like the USB ports aren't working correctly or the drivers have an issue.

You are installing the software before plugging in the camera right?

Also what version of Windows is on your computer?

I have just installed my new Intel i5 3570K, and everything was running great until I reformatted my hard drive. When I first booted up I turned off the option to auto download drivers because I wanted to instal my INF before my GPU auto installed. Worked fine until I restarted and then the windows update was saying that it had successfully installed some drivers along with the Xeon Processor
I've also noticed that my WEI went from a 7.6 to a 6.9 for the CPU score, if that means anything. Sorry if this is very vague and doesn't make much sense; I am very tired. Any help with deleting and re-installing the right drivers would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

MOBO is a ASRock h77M

EDIT: Just talked to a friend the driver is correct, but that doesn't explain my poor performance in games, and my WEI going from the 7.6 to an 6.9. performance in games is significantly lower than before I reformatted.

Xeon processers are basically the same as the i5 and i7 except they support ECC memory. Xeon = server, i5 = Desktop/Laptop. Xeon's have many threads as opposed to i5's core speed. How that relates to your problem I don't know unfortunately.

Hello, this is a great site. Although I haven?t found a similar issue as mine, I did find a lot of other interesting info. while I was doing searches. Maybe I found the solution, but didn?t know it.

Well, this will be long, but I wanted to show what I have done so far to resolve this. I have a Dell XPS410 running Windows XP MSE 2005. The issue stared approximately 3 weeks ago. After booting up I would get the dialog box saying that Windows had found new software and needed to load a driver. The driver it needed was ?Microsoft UAA Driver for High Definition Audio?. This seemed strange as I have good sound and everything seems to run fine. I checked the BIOS to make sure the integrated audio was turned off since I use a sound card. I tried using the XP disks, MSE2005 disk, the Dell forum, many searches on the internet and Microsoft web site to find the driver without any luck. Microsoft did have a hot fix, KB Article Number: 888111. The e-mail I received with instructions on how to download the fix had warnings that scared me. This was more than just a driver fix. Someone told me to check the System devices in the Device Mgr and it could help locate the problem. When I checked the Device Mgr I discovered that my System devices folder is gone. I can?t help think these are related. I previously posted the problem for the missing problem of the missing UAA driver, but I wasn't aware of the system devices folder missing.

Hi, make sure the USB device (removable device) you want to use is plugged into the computer then go to start search and type:-
diskmgmt.msc, open disk manager, if you have a mapped network drive you will find the USB device has been assigned the same drive letter. Right click on your removable drive and choose "Change Drive Letter or Paths..." and assign a different letter.

Open "My Computer" and the drive should be there. Next time you connect it, it will pop-up with a newly assigned letter.

Can I trouble you for your feedback on something else. Every few months I clean install the Windows operating system on my PC. Is it the same for you in that sometimes the Windows 8 setup picks up all of the devices (it usually only misses one..a Bluetooth peripheral device with a question mark. That's easily sorted by installing Wireless drivers from Dell site). Then on other occasions it'll leave the occasional exclamation mark usually listed in Other Devices but not always. That disappears when the chipsets are installed. Most of the time I never get these at all but its happened a couple of times lately. Im wondering if its caused because Im installing from Windows 8 DVD and not from a factory image.I guess really what Im asking is..Is the Windows Installation sometimes a bit hit and miss at picking up everything in Device Manager during initial setup? Sometimes theres an occasional error and other times its fine (This is on the same system with the same hardware with no changes from previous windows installations)
Thanks guys

A:Device Manager re:devices after Windows clean install

My guess is that you have other hardware connected during some of these installs and not at other times.

My question is, why do you reinstall every couple months? Are you bored, just for fun or is it to solve problems. I know this sounds snarky but it's a serious question.

I have a dv7-2170us laptop.I performed a clean install with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.I used the drivers for this laptop model from the HP site.I'm getting a few unknown devices in Device Manager.I've tried un-installing the devices and re-installing to allow Windows to re-detect but no drivers are found.  See pictures below, what devices could these possibly be referring to? I have all the necessary drivers loaded that I am aware of and I installed any driver that looked valid from the HP drivers site.

A:Unknown devices in Windows 7 device manager - dv7-2170us

EDIT: Everything works!  Thanks for the tip Daniel.  I googled how to identify hardware id's and came up with this site http://www.pcidatabase.com/ , punched in the device id's and bam, it WAS the card reader.  Weird because it was working perfectly.  But I downloaded the driver anyway and re-installed and this resolved the issue.  ============================================= I tried the Intel Chipset Utility, didn't work. Here's the hardware id's though:  If you look closely you'll notice that each of these devices are in fact different.

After installing a bunch of updates from microsoft update, I restarted and the computer wouldn't boot, it kept blue screening then restarting. I ended up doing a reinstall, and it worked, then I did all the updates again, and it all worked. Now I cannot for the life of me, get my USB to work, it's insane, i've never had this much trouble and I don't want to format. I've tried many different versions and releases of the VIA drivers, but when ever it detects new hardware and tries to install, it always gives me the same...

A:Device Manager Code 39 Chronic problem with USB devices

First step, Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Restore. Create a restore point and name it something like "Before USB Fix". This is to bail you out if something goes wrong during the following process and makes things worse.

Create a file with NOTEPAD containing the following lines and save it as FIX.REG
-------------------------- Use text after this line --------------------------------
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Environment]

"DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES"="1"
-------------------------- Use text before this line --------------------------------

Double click on FIX.REG and say yes to the Merge Into Registry question.

Unplug ALL USB devices.
Open Device Manager.
View, Show Hidden Devices.
Uninstall all devices under USB Controllers.
Uninstall all devices under Disk Drives that you know are not present.
Uninstall all devices under Storage Volumes. Say no to any reboot prompts until you are finished. Also, if a Storage Volume doesn't uninstall, ignore it and move to the next one.
If you have a yellow ? with unknown devices, uninstall all of the entries there as well.

When this is done, reboot TWICE.

Reconnect the USB devices and see if they're recognized properly.

NOTE: If you have a USB keyboard and/or mouse, you'll have to modify the instructions and leave enough parts for those to function. I don't have one yet, so I haven't had time to modify th... Read more

Last night, device manager started scanning for new devices constantly on a random time interval. I looked at all the error logs available but there was nothing reported (no hardware error, no disconnect, no application error, etc.). No device appears in error and every time DM tries to update, the PC freezes. This is getting very annoying, especially trying to play games.

I'm including the file MSINFO32.zip hoping someone can find what I'm missing and give me a hint as to what is happening. BTW, I'm running:

Win 7 Pro 64 bit on an AMD Phenom II x6 Black Edition platform.

A:Device manager suddenly scanning for new devices constantly

It was the STUPID USB MOUSE!!

I was on the PC yesterday and DM was making the usual noises. Then, using hand-eye coordination, I noticed that every time the arrow pointer moved, DM would chime in. I moved the mouse really, really fast back and forth and DM went into a frenzy.

I replaced my mouse with my wife's mouse and DM quieted down right away. Funny, no hardware errors, or any other errors for that matter.

So, the mouse was the problem!!

Using this thread for reference, because it deals with the same issue pretty much, but in a different way.

ATI Radeon HD 3650 PCIe issue

Since that thread, I have purchased a new computer, and used that graphic card in it. I had the same issue, and used the same method to fix it. My brother got my old computer.

A few months ago I purchased a video card to replace the one in the thread. I then handed that graphic card down to my brothers machine (giving him the exact same system I used to have basically)

The work around in the thread is not permanently working on my brothers computer anymore. Disabling the 'High Definition Audio Controller' fixes the slow down issue that I used to have, and we did that through the Device Manager. However, whenever he shuts down, or reboots, that 'High Definition Audio Controller' is always enabled again.

I don't know why something would just re-enable itself. I've never had it happen on my machine. He's getting frustrated. I'm getting frustrated. Anyone with answers?

Thanks

A:Device Manager - Disabled devices re-enable on restart

Having the same problem as you I was very relieved to find this registry edit fix that permanently disables the HD audio controller :

"I have tried to uninstall them in device manager....disable them in device manager yet when I re-boot...TADAAAA there they are again!!
Surely there must be a way to get rid of them?
You can disable them by editing two registry keys.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\servic es\HDAudBus\Start=4
This value disables the High Definition Audio Controller in the device manager > system devices, it needs to be disabled.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\servic es\HdAudAddService\Start=4
This value disables the High Definition Audio Device/ATI HDMI Audio Device. You don't have to uninstall the devices first and this will also free up an IRQ. After a reboot the devices will show a yellow exclamation point but you can ignore that."

To edit these two values click the start button then type regedit.
Double click HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, then SYSTEM, then CurrentControlSet, then services.
Click HdAudAddService, then right click Start under the Name column on the right - click Modify, change the value from 3 to 4 and OK.
Click HDAudBus, then right click Start under the Name column on the right - click Modify, change the value from 3 to 4 and OK.

A:No USBIO-Controlled Devices branch in device manager

Remove the USB hardware. Restart the computer, plug the USB device back in. You will get the new hardware found wizard and it will ask for the CD to install the driver.

Ok so I had to reinstall windows XP because my OS would not load and I got all the drivers reinstalled, diagnostic ran smooth and everything came up working ok etc but my device manager won't recognize anything! The compy says my audio mixers are not there, my USB devices are not working, hardware wizard is not responding, microsoft updates are not working, Dell's driver downloads are calling out for something that isn't there and I really really need this fixed ASAP so I can get to my external HD. So I tried putting an apple sticker on my Dell in hopes it would accept its new identity and start not sucking, but alas this did not work. If you help me fix this I'll seriously be your new best friend... I have apple stickers. ;-)

how do I get rid of multiple monitors listed as 'default' within device manager? I have tried uninstalling them and rebooting to no avail. Any assistance would be appriciated. Thank you.

A:multiple monitors in device manager

there are several things that can cause multiple monitors;
if your motherboard came with integrated video and someone later added a video card could cause the appearance of multiple displays, it woul'd be even more if that addon card has let's say a VGA connection AND a DVI connection. then it would show the existence of 3 displays.

Each connection would show up as a seperate display.

If that is the case where you have a motherboard with integrated video AND an actual AGP/PCI video card, you should be able to disable the on-board video by accessing your system's BIOS and looking for integrated video options for enable/disable. Doing this may also free up some RAM being used by this possible integrated video, as shared video RAM.

If this is not the case where you have any integrated video, it may be that you have a dual-head video card with VGA and/or DVI. If this is the case that you have a duallie, it does not hurt anything to have multiple showing up in your device manager. However there should be only 2 in this case.

Other than that, the only thing I may suggest is ensuring that you have the latest and correct drivers for the video system you ARE running in your system.

Maybe some more info as to kind and type of video card you are running with maybe a physical eyeball count of how many VGA/DVI connections you have on the back of your system. The VGA connections are gonna be a 15-pin either blue or black most likely. And the DVI would most likely be a ... Read more

I just did a clean install of xp pro on a ThinkPad X61s. When I was using Vista it had only one monitor in Device Manager. Now there are 5, and none of them are the proper ThinkPad LCD. I've tried deleting them in safe mode but they keep coming back and even when I force feed the proper drivers I am left with 3 default monitors and 2 ThinkPad LCD monitors. I am trying to set up everything perfectly so I can create a disc image for backup.

How do I correct this?
Any ideas?

The first thing I would try is right click on each of them and select remove/uninstall.
then reboot the computer, Hopefully Windows will reinstall just the correct one.

I recently changed my motherboard, processor, ram and grahpics card. The odd thing is now when I look in Device Manager under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers, I have 6 enties:

Intel ICH9 2 port Serial ATA Storage Controller 2
Intel ICH9 4 port Serial ATA Storage Controller 1
Primary IDE Channel
Primary IDE Channel
Secondary IDE Channel
Secondary IDE Channel

It seems odd that I have duplicate primary and secondary channels. Is that wrong or am I misunderstanding something here?

Thanks,

Just checked my PC's health in the limited way I know how.
I found in the device manager, multiple problem flags in the network devices .

The only things that were there before, was my ADSL modem (which I installed) and the nVidia network controller which was pre-installed. But now I've got .....

isatap.{66A773A2-B131-4D4F-8F67-BB7848D3503B} <--This is listed 15 times.

6TO4 Adapter <--This is listed 8 times.

Right clicking on these items, tells me they are Microsoft network adapters and they can not start (code 10)

My Machine isn't connected to any network apart from the internet.
Can anyone shed any light on what they are for and how I fix and or remove them.

Thanks in advance for your time.

A:Device Manager has flagged up multiple's

These are tunnelling devices for the internet. By default, Vista is set to search on 6, which has a larger address capability, and then move to the older 4 if it can't find the address it wants, and these drivers allow the transition. I'm sure someone else could provide a much better explanation, however this will do for brevity.

I have had a lot of trouble with them in my Acer laptop with Vista Home Basic. There are more devices in there than is first obvious. Up the top where it says View, click 'Show hidden Devices', and expand the plus signs on the ones with the exclamation marks.

What I think is happening is this. When the device becomes faulty, it sends a problem report, and eventually, your computer downloads and installs another one to fix the problem. unfortunately, it doesn't uninstall the faulty one, so it keeps downloading more to 'fix' the problem. I ended up with over fifty of each of them at one stage!

Now, I don't know how many of these your particular computer requires. My Acer only had one of each of these to begin with (there are some with different numbers on them too), but my Toshiba has more.

So my advice FWIW is this. Providing you have several of the exact same ones, uninstall the faulty ones. You just right click on the device and choose uninstall to do this. If you only have one, right click and choose update driver software.

I have not found so far, a reason why they become faulty, or a solution to the p... Read more

Now the keyboard MS Wireless Keyboard 3000 won't work. It is not listed in Device Manager and the Hardware section of Keyboard in Control Panel does not list it under Hardware though under Wireless it says the battery level is high.

If I use the original Receiver, nothing works.

I tried re-installing MS IntelliType Pro 5.5 for both but only the mouse works.

Any ideas?

Hope someone can help me with this. Second time I've installed Windows 7 64 bit, and have received the same error in Device Manager. I use a USB Logitech G502 Mouse & a USB Logitech G710+ Keyboard.
I have 3 files attached showing my Device Manager, Resources by Type (I/O) and (IRQ) indicating yellow flags for the PS/2 Keyboard and PS/2 Mouse. When I update the driver, Windows indicates the driver is up to date. Under Properties, and the General Tab it indicates that "This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed. (Code 24)". I've also tried to uninstall the device and reboot. It just reappears the same way.

Anyone have any ideas on how this can be corrected?

Virus, Malware, you choose...

A fresh install of windows may solve the problem, but it could be your motherboard or a host of other problems, who knows for sure...

Running a Virus / Malware / Spyware scanner is the first step in solving most problems with a computer, if this fails, start the diagnostics by removing hardware and finding the bad hardware...

If, in fact, the problem is with a bad OS installation, then finally, I would move to reinstalling the Operating System.

Finally, if a fresh install of the OS doesn't solve the issue, then I might suspect a bad motherboard probably...

How you come to the answer is your decision, I hope this information helps you though..

I have a netbook that was dropped and wasnt charging. I took it apart to check to make sure that it wasnt the plug in port thingy. That looks fine (I came to find out that the cable was bad, and now it charges fine) anyway after putting it back together I ound that the keyboard suddenly stopped working. Before I took it apart the keyboard was working just fine. I looked at it in device manager and it says that it is there (and that it is working correctly) so I tried uninstalling the driver and reinstalling it (through device manager) Still the same resultes. If I plug in a usb keyboard it works fine. If I take out the hard drive and put it in a different system it works fine there as well. Anyone have any ideas on what I can do to fix this?

My parents have an IdeaPad V570 laptop. All of a sudden, the internal keyboard stopped working. They could only type a couple of letters and punctuation marks. However, a USB keyboard worked fine.  I immediately assumed the problem was with the internal keyboard, so I had them order a replacement. I opened up the laptop and installed it for them, but now it won't even type the few characters they could type before.  Windows 10 detects the PS/2 internal keyboard and does not indicate any problems in the Device Manager. So why is it that nothing happens when you type? Could it be a bad main board?  I had my mom uninstall the PS/2 keyboard, unplug her USB keyboard, and restart the machine. She went back to the Device Manager, and it once again detected the PS/2 keyboard, but it still won't type. I wondered if I had plugged the ribbon cable from the replacement keyboard into the main board backward, but if I had done that, would the Device Manager in Windows 10 be able to detect the PS/2 keyboard at all?
