Since yesterday, i have been unable to access my pc with a constant loop of the HP logo with a spinning spiral loading constantly or "preparing automatic repair" and sometimes being eventually lead to an error message saying something like "your PC ran into a problem" and that it needs to restart.

anyone have any idea of how i could fix this?

by the way my PC has no disk drive.

i would be very grateful if i could have some feedback.

A:HP Pavilion wont boot, cant access anything PLEASE HELP!

Hi

The very first step you should do is to confirm whether the issue is caused be hardware or software reason. I would recommend running the built in diagnostic test as the first stepp.

1. Press Esc during power on to interrupt booting and display "Startup" menu.

2. Press F2 or select Diagnostic from menu to execute a diagnostic test. Some newer HP models may have separate testing routines to test HDD, RAM etc. Make sure to run all of them. Also make sure to run the "Extended/Full" version of HDD test.

Let us know the result with next reply.

hey guys i own a hp pavilion dv9000 (2008)......for the past few weeks it wont boot or even show any signs of booting .......i had given it for service when this happened the first time...but it repeated very often and i had to give it for service very often ......at last those technicians said tat there is some major problem wih the motherboard but arent clear about the problem....
Further Details:
Motherboard: 441534-001
Processor: AMD
GPU: nvidia geforce 7600
OS: Win 7 -64 bit
Ram: 4GB
ITS NOT UNDER WARRANTY.......
Should i change my motherboard now or do u think there would be any other minor problems that can be looked upon.....pls help

A:Hp Pavilion dv9000 wont boot

Changing the motherboard on a laptop is not really an option. Cost wise it will probably be about the same as buying a new laptop.
I have had laptops labelled dead by repair shops when all that needed doing was to re seat some connector. Link to video on how to take the laptop apart https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kOdmGuiq1l8
Fair warning: it's going to take MUCH longer than the 15 min of the video to dismantle it and putting the thing back together is tedious and delicate work

I'm having the same issue as this post from 2013!  yikes. Pavilion HPE H8-1121 - New graphics card + PSU, wont boot past HP screen.  I've installed a newer power supply (Seasonic 620W), which has been working well.  I also installed a GTX 660Ti last year and it's been working great as well.  I recently purchased a ZOTAC GTX 970 and have attempted to install that, but it won't go past the blue HP screen and I get the same beep code (1 long, 3 short) which, it seems, suggests the video isn't initializing. My BIOS date is 2011.Where would I find an update for this?I'm also using Windows 10, which I just found on the HP site isn't tested on my model and would likely not support it's use well.  Should I roll back to 7 or 8?  and then update BIOS?  Is there an update for my BIOS and where do I find it.Anyway, I'm hoping that's a solution.  This still isn't a bad machine for being 5 years old. Thanks for any help!

Hey guys, in need of some help, got a HP Pavilion DV6-3040SA that wont boot up.

The screen isn't coming on and the caps lock is just flashing away at me, on the list of error codes on HP's website it tells me that one flash is CPU issue. When I first had the laptop doing a hard reset and then swapping RAM about cured the laptop and it got to the boot stage. As I needed to re-install Windows I had to wait for the hard drive to be given to me to install. I come to the laptop only to find its flashing away at me again.

Tried re-seating CPU and moving RAM around but this time its still broke. Any ideas?

After I upgraded the ram memory of my HP DV6 from 4Gb to 8Gb (2 x 4Gb Kingston KTA-MB1333/4G), Windows wont boot anymore. I get blue screens and it keeps rebooting. I believe the specs of the memory are similar to the original Samsung M471B5673EH1-CH9 memory: 1333Ghz, non-ecc, 1.5Volt, Cas latency 9 etc.etc. It's a HP DV6-2140ED laptop with an Intel i5-430m processor and Intel mobile HM55 chipset. The bios detects 8Gb and it also passes the memory check/test. As far as I know I also installed the latest bios firmware: F.1D. Reinstalling my Windows 10 64-bit doesnt work either: with 8Gb I also get blue screens after I try to boot from my Windows 10 bootable usb flash drive. I read of other people having the same problem, but I havent read of a solution yet. What can be done about this?

HP Pavilion beatsaudio - Black screen and wont boot.. getting 5 set of double beeps... Screen stays black... can hear fan noise... after 5 set of double long(abt a second) beeps the power LED stays on, but the caps lock makes double blinks (1 sec gap) after every 3-4 seconds (I think its same as double beep)....  Per support pages, double beep means BIOS issue, so I tried both BIOS resetting options of 1. Holding Windows + B keys and 2. All 4 arrow keys to reset BIOS... didnt work... Then removed the CMOS battery (tested with multimeter and it has 3V power on it) put it back in... still no luck...  Am running out of options now... can anyone suggest any other options or explain me whats going on? TIA...AllPisces

Hello there,

It seems like you did not perform a clean installation of Windows and that's why your system is acting up.

Follow the steps below to install a new copy of Windows:

1. To format your hard disk during Windows 7 installation you will need to start or boot your computer using the Windows 7 installation disc or USB flash drive. Insert your Windows 7 disc in your CD/DVD drive. Please note: will need to restart or turn on your system with the disc in the drive.
2. After turning on your system with the CD in the drive go ahead and press any key when prompted during your computer post routine and then follow the instructions presented on screen. If you don’t see this go back to step 1 to setup your BIOS to boot from CD or USB flash drive depending on your installation media.
3. On the Install Windows page simply enter your preferences and click next.

4. Accept the Windows license agreement.

5. On the “Which type of installation do you want” page go ahead and choose the “Custom” option.

6. Select Drive options (advanced) on the “Where do you want to install Windows” page.

7.  Select the partition that you want to change, choose the formatting option you want to perform and then follow the instructions.
When allocating space choosing the default MB size for your drive is typically the best for most users since you want to take full advantage of all your disk... Read more

So my co worker asked me to look at her laptop its a toshiba tecra m2. The boot keeps hanging up on the system32 file agp440.sys . I went on the internet and found a windows xp pro disk to try and replace the system32 file using recovery. After a learning how to add SATA drivers to the windows xp boot I was able to detect the hard drive and just before windows setup screen comes up the computer blue screens with a 0x0000007B stop error... I read that the battery could cause this so i carefully took apart the computer and replaced it with no change. I put a windows 7 disk in to see if i could use the recovery console in it and suprisingly it booted no problem, i was able to use command prompt but with no idea what the problem is i have no idea what to do with it. If anyone has any ideas it would be appreciated. Thanks for reading the problem hope someone has an idea. any more info needed just ask

thanks

A:Windows wont boot hangs up on agp440.sys and wont complete boot off the disk :/

Info on 7B STOP errors...http://www.aumha.org/a/stop.htm, scroll down to 7B in left column.

IMO, you have compounded the situation by using a "downloaded" version of Windows, since I suspect that such may contain embedded malware as part of the package.

Any number of things may have caused the initial hang, as you can see by reading the data at the Aumha website.

Hello, I have the HP Pavillion DV7. I loved this laptop. A few months ago it started shutting completely off while I was working on it.  All of a sudden, it turned off and will not come back on at all. I have had it plugged in and there are no lights that come on or anything. I use this for my crafting business I have on the side, and with the features and screen size, it works great for my crafting needs, and I don't want to spend the money to buy a new one. I know it is not a new laptop, but as I said it was great for what I needed. Does anyone know what may have caused this and if it would be an easy fix, if at all possible to fix? And, I bought it around 2010, so as I said, not new.  Thanks in advance!

Hello - I hope someone is able to help.  I am having issues with my pavilion dv6.  The laptop is about 6 years and wont start up.  I dont think the hard drive is fried but I need to access the information stored on the laptop as I dont have it backed up and transfer the data to my new laptop.  I have tried to back up the files through Recovery Manager onto a hard drive but it keeps coming up with 'There is currently not enough space on the system partition for temporary storage during data compression.  You must free up some space on the system partiton to continue with the task'.  Is this refering to my laptop hard drive? The external hard drive I have is 2TB and the laptop is 750GB and I haven't used all the space on the laptop harddrive.  Also, not sure to do the Microsoft System Restore - Restore your system to an eariler date.  Will this delete any of my personal data on the old laptop.  Does anyone have any thoughts? Thanks

My Pavilion All in One has died. It was working fine last night. This morning, the screen was blank apart from a cursor but this would not react to input from the mouse or keyboard. I powered off and back on and absolutely nothing happened. I have tested the power supply which is confirmed as providing 19.5V DC. When I connect it, the LED on the motherboard lights up solid. When I press the power switch, the LED there also lights - but nothing else happens. No fan, no nothing. I have disconnected all the power cords I can see on the mother board and reconnected them one at a time but nothing responds. It would seem that power is coming into the PC and reaching the power switch but I cannot determine if it is getting beyond there (ie - could it be a faulty power switch?) Is there a simple way to confirm if power is leaving the switch and going back to the motherboard? Any and all thoughts, suggestions and solutions gratefully received.

HP Pavilion 6355 has the following issues:

1) Computer will not shut down by holding in power button. It must be "unplugged from outlet."

2) When power cord plugged in the light sequence on the tower reads, from left to right, yellow, green.

3) A Thumping sound comes from speakers, not the typical Bios Beeps.

4) Monitor is blank, yellow light indicator on.

5) Cannot open CD Drive, even manually.

This computer belongs to a friend of mine whose daughter uses it for High School work. She was working on it one day, received an error message, no, no, writing it down would be to easy , so she shut down using start-shutdown, and left for school. When she came back and resumed her work she was met with the above scenario.

Any ideas as to the most expeditious way to get to root of issue.

First I would like to ask does the light show up right beside where you charge it(orange when charging white when done charging)? So if we can see if its just a simple problem with your cable, and if it doesnt show a light tell me if the charger works on other laptops.

Safe Mode
If possible try tapping the F8 key when you press the power button.
Computer Repair should be the first on the list.

I would not use - Directory Service Repair Mode. I had to use Computer Repair
after starting it. I had trouble getting to Computer Repair.

Repair Disc
Start - Control Panel - Backup and Restore - at the left top corner -
Create a System Repair Disc - It may say DVD but a CD works OK
With the Repair Disc in the tray, Restart your computer and be ready
to press any key when asked.
If it doesn't find and fix right off than click next and follow directions
from the list that should come up.

Have you made changes on your computer that caused the blue screen ?

Error checking comes with your computer.
Using the arrow keys go to Safe Mode with Command Prompt.
Press Enter
New Screen - Administrator cmd.exe (That's the name in the left top corner)
Type - chkdsk /r
Don't forget the space between k and r
Press the Enter Key
Type - y - Enter

ress the Power Button to turn your computer off.
The next time you turn your computer on chkdsk /r will run.
Don't press any key are chkdsk /r will be cancelled.
5 Stages and number 4 and 5 take a long time to run.
If using this Error Checking on a laptop than use an Electrical outlet (adapter)
chkdsk /r took 1 hour and 38 minutes to run on my pc.

Other than this, it doesn't show any signs of life, no sound or vibration. Is there something I can do to fix it?

Hi,

Rather than downloading all of those updates, some of which may not be required, did you try the 'Scan Now' button beneath 'Check for updates (recommended)'?

I wonder if theres a system restore point been created yet so you can get rid of the ones you downloaded?

The above will scan your system and only give you the drivers you need.

It sounds like Windows may be corrupted or failing. Is there a recovery partition installed or do you have a reinstallation DVD? Please boot from the recovery partition/DVD and select Repair your computer from the installation screen. Select your Windows partition and click Next, then open a command prompt and run sfc /scannow. It may take a while, but just let the scan run until it finishes. Let us know if it finds any errors and if you're able to boot into Windows after. Good luck to you.

Ok i'm new to this site and dont really know alot about computers so I hope someone could help me in trying to figure out what is wrong with my laptop. Let me start by saying I have 2 computers, my Laptop (which wont connect to the internet, nor shut down or restart properly) and my regular computer (which I think is called a desktop). My regular computer works just fine but my laptop has not been working for about 3-4 months now. Since my other computer works I have not gotten around to fixing the laptop, but now that I need my laptop that has changed. Anyway whats wrong with my laptop is that I can't connect to the internet when I used to be able to. When I double click on the internet icon nothing happens. The little blue circle loads then goes away but nothing happens. Even if my internet was down there should still be a window opening up but there isn't. I also tried to reset Internet Explorer settings but aferward it says for changes to take affect you will need to restart your computer but I CAN'T. When I try to restart or shut down it just gets stuck on "Logging off" and stays on that screen forever. The only way I can turn off my laptop is by holding down the button for 3 seconds. Thats the problem, I can't restart or shut down and more importantly I can't connect to the internet. Please Help

At my home I use suddenlink internet, phone and cable. The modem I have relays my internet and phone service. I plug a Linksys wireless-G 2.4 GHz broadband router into the modem to make my internet wireless. Both my boyfriend and I are able to pick up the signal fine. My mothers internet will not pick up the signal. The wireless works because the little blue button stays on. There is just no wireless signals found. I have looked everywhere for an answer. The internet was working, then we had the power go off and now it will not connect. Her computer is an HP Pavilion dv5000 series, it runs windows xp. I know a little about computers so I have done all the basic things to try and fix it. Reset router, update drivers, disable reenable the wireless....I have done all of those things. I have had this problem once before, and the solution is simple...I JUST CANNOT REMEMBER! Please anyone who knows anything I would love advice on how to fix it. Oh when I plug her directly into the internet she runs fine. I don't think the actual wireless on her computer is the issue because it is staying on, it is something wrong with picking up the signals.

Tuesday morning my boyfriend was using my laptop and he was on ventrachicago.com and another site. We didn't do anything like update to windows 10 or anything, at least he says he didnt do anything. Everytime windows10 wants to be upgraded, i push "dont schedule". So when i got home that afternoon, my laptop was going really slow, everything took a while to open like chrome, and the settings on windows, everything was taking too long to start. I kept turning it off and on and even tried to refresh the laptop so none of my files would be erased. nothing worked and then it finally wouldnt open windows at all. Now when i turn on my laptop, a black "Windows Boot Manager" screen comes on that says windows failed to start and my laptop doesnt have a cd drive/port thing and it says" if you do not have this disc contact your system administrator or cp manufactururer for assistance"and below it has ::file: [filename]status:[0xc0000185]info: the boot config data for your pc is missing or contains errors.  I did a system fast test and the Hard Drive Short DST Check "failed", this is what shows up:failure id: 9TTW0W-6JS83N-MFPWW1-60WS03product id: D1G59UA#ABAHard Drive 1  what do i have to do, if noone can really help me im just going to call.i dont want to call now because i have a govern, ment phone with only 250 minutes a month and i dont want to waste it all on a call especially if i really dont have to contact anyone for this. any other info i can provide, pl... my friend's computer crashed a while ago, and i offered to reload it with XP. well i did and have gotten everything to work except the ethernet connection. it wont connect at all, and i even tried to install a lan driver for it and turn off the firewall, but i still cant get it to work. any advice?

A:hp pavilion 533w wont connect to the internet

It sound like the driver for the ethernet is not installed. Go to the device manager and see if there are any yellow or red exclamation points. Also if he is using the onboard lan be sure it is enabled in the BIOS. According to the specs of this PC you have an option of two different MoBo. Both take a realtek 8100 driver, Here is a link to try:

I have the same problem with my laptop now. The lights turn on but nothing else happens and it appears to try and restart after about a minute. I have replaced the power cord and thinking about replacing the battery, which is costly. Did you find a solution for yours? I am researching online before spending the big $$$ to fix it! Yesterday I purchased a Pavilion 23 all in one. After I connected all the necessary cords and controlers for the mouse and the keyboard and the power cord. I turned on the computer. The first screen said let's get some simple things like country and time zones out of the way. Which I did. Then the next screen asks you to use express settings to setup you computer. the next screen asks you to choose a internet connection. WhenI choose my home connection the screen goes black and does not come back on. I took the computer to my brothers house where he connected it up to his internet connection via his rouuter and the same results. What are we doing wrong and why will it not start up in a windows 10 start up screen asking for a user name and password? It only does this over and over everytime I shut it down wait and start it back up the same.

Last night I updated windows 8.1 from windows 8.
It got to the stage where it needs to restart so it done that started the configarations and once it reached 100% it restarted.

Since then what happens is when i press power on the samsung logo comes on the screen then the black screen with the windows picture then the bsod comes up for around half a second and it restarts. then it constantly does this.

The whole cycle only takes a few seconds.

Ive tried booting in safe mode but this isnt working so I downloaded kav rescue on another computer and saved it on a flash drive, But it wont boot off this either.

Any ideas?

A:Windows wont start after 8.1 update wont boot in safe mode

What does the BSOD state? Most times it is a driver issue with the Display drivers. Other times it is hardware.

Hello,

Today I noticed that I could not open my start menu with neither the windows button, ctrl + esc, or a click of the mouse. I've also had a problem the last couple of days saving/opening files in one of the programs I used to make music. I tried to go into safe mode to do system restore, but the safe mode didn't boot. It scrolled all the system files on the screen but then just stopped and nothing happened.

So, I tried the other option (forget what it's called) that lets you perform various other system restoration tasks. I brought up the system restore screen from there, but got an error that said something about corrupt files so it could not perform the restore. I checked again, and all my restore points had been deleted.

Lastly, when I click computer, all the drives are blank with no names beside them, only the icons. I can still click them and they seem to be functioning normally, so I don't know if there is a relation to this. I don't know if some registry files were deleted or if there is some other problem. I didn't notice the start menu/safe mode/blank icon issues until I just recently installed the latest windows update.

Sorry if this seemed a little long winded, but I would appreciate help from anyone.

Thanks,
adub2b23

Ok, it all started when i was dloading a program to make windows setups.(.msi). Then i decided i didnt like it and uninstalled it. After tht was done. I decided i was going to stick with Inno Setup. I have used it before and liked it. But then i noticed all or most of my desktop icons were missing. And all the start menu ientries were missing. So i figured i had a virus. SO i went to do a system resotre. But found that i oculdnt find it...due to to missing folders. So i decided i would then try to boot into safe mode. When i tried to boot it said it cannot find a file(same with normal mode). Ubfortunely i dont remember what it said. I think it said windows cannot find NRDL press ctrl alt delete to reboot. or somthing like that. Any ways i tried a few more times and it all failied. SO then i tried the windows recovery console. Nothing. I really didnt know whre to go with it. Then i decied to go into the bios and reset. Or i thought i was resseting them. I seleteced. "fails proof settings". But then i rebooted and things got worse. My monitor is now getting no signal, it says it is ocnnected though..... So i cant see what i am doing. Please any ideas. Hi, My partner was going to sell her HP pavilion x2 Detachable, So i went on to do a factory reset, waited around 2 hours at it slowly ticking away then it said it had failed. Ever since then it got stuck in a continous HP loading screen to resert loop. Ive tried restarting, hitting esc and tried re-doing a reset but it continously fails, now it gets to a point which im able to log in to user, comes up with preparing windows, then just goes to a blank screen.

A:HP Pavilion x2 failed factory reset now wont load

Enter the BIOS by pressing the power button and immediately tapping the F10 key. Change the system date to 01-20-2014 Press the F10 key again to save the change.  Try booting again from the recovery media.

Hi. Ive had a problem for a little while with my girlfriends laptop.  HP Pavilion Notebook - 15z-p100 CTO (ENERGY STAR) AMD/AMD-Radeon graphics HD 8610g/r7 M260-Windows 8.1 64bit (previously Win10 64bit)  The laptop isnt working for buisness or pleasure because none of the graphics drivers from Hp (and Ive tried them all) are working properly. We upgraded the laptop to windows 10 a while back and we learned that apparently doing that makes it so the recovery harddrive that came with it wont work. I tried factory resetting but that didnt work at all, leaving me no choice but to reinstall windows 8.1 fresh. Obviously thats not how it was shipped to me as I assume its missing crutial HP installs and such to make the switchable graphics work. Ive ordered the media to revert back to factory settings but my question is, is that even going to work? It seems like after windows 10 came out the drivers for my specific laptop, and other people that ive read about just wont work for switchable graphics.  AMD and Microsoft both say to talk to HP. So that being said, here I am. What is someone to do with a crippled computer that was still fairly recently purchased when all of the video drivers wont work? Ive gone through HP assistant, ive gone through the hp website and downloaded everything individually but still with no luck. I look forward to hearing from someone.

My daughter has an HP Pavilion DV6, that I have fixed the symptoms of a problem but would like to get to the bottom of the cause. The problem was that it wouldn't start, when you switch on you can hear the fan, the led on the caps lock bilnks continuously, and the led on the wifi key is orange. (It is normally white when working properly.

Having trawled numerous forums including HP I could not find a resolution, many suggestions such as reset the power, clean the memory and slots etc etc, followed by loads of entries from people trying all of these without succes

I eventually came across a post that said he had fixed it by simply wrapping the laptop in a blanket, switching on, leaving for 20 minutes then switching off and on again. This post was followed by dozens of people saying this worked for them.
So, rather sceptically, I tried it and amazingly it worked. The laptop now starts every time without a problem. So aparantly problem solved.

However I would like to get to the bottom of this before it happens again. I want to find the actual reason for the failure and if necessary replace any faulty componants. I am thinking of selling the laptop but don't want to sell it to someone knowing it may fail in the near future.

My guess is that this must be heat related as wrapping in a blanket stopped the laptop cooling and it was very hot when I removed the blanket.
The laptop now starts OK regardless of the temp, I left it overnight and restarted OK.

You need to be much more specific about what your problem is. I can't tell at all from your post what's really happening, and neither will anybody else. What exactly happens? What exact messages do you get? What "advanced options" are you talking about? Also, it appears this site's profanity filter has blocked something in your post. Using such language is not helpful.

The computer originally had windows xp on it.  I got fed up with windows xp so when windows 7 was out, I wanted to load it with windows 7.  I upgraded the memory to 1 GB, and then started the process of loading windows 7.  The installation seemed to go okay up until the last time the computer automatically had to reboot.  Until then the display was fine and everything appeared normal.  But after the last time the computer rebooted itself, the display became black with a couple of colored pixels showing.  Just to make sure the graphics card wasn't bad, I reloaded windows xp, and the display worked fine all the way even after xp was loaded.  so why is the display acting weird whn I try to load windows 7

A:hp pavilion a712n wont display properly when I load windows 7

Weird. Well I'm glad your graphics card isn't fried though, the last time I saw colored pixels all over was when I killed my 8800GT. So your rig meets all of the minimum requirements for Windows 7? This includes a 1 GHz CPU, 1 GB of memory, 16 GB's of HDD space, and a video adapter with 128 MB's of memory that supports DirectX 9.

What kind of graphics card are you using? You can check your card against the Hardware Compatibility List at http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/compatibility/win7/CompatCenter/Home .

Windows 7 should be installing the Standard VGA video driver during the instillation. It's a stock driver that allows you to have a 800x600 resolution until you can download the actual driver for you card after you've finish installing Windows. It kind of sounds like the driver isn't working with your card. If you go to http://windows.microsoft.com/is-is/windows/downloads/upgrade-advisor you can download the Upgrade Advisor Tool. It should be able to tell you if any of your system components wont be able to run Windows 7.

Hope that helps.

ok, so i got a trojan.zlob.h and removed it, fine, i did another scan after updating my AV again, picked up some pretty much harmless trojan.eek (its something like that, maybe emk?) or so i believe. and after removing them i had to reboot to complete the proccess as usual, after booting back in it gets so far into the booting up thing and just freezes, everything no matter where your cursor is is a hourglass. there is only 39 proccesses in task manager (47 usually, MSN, xfire, steam etc..etc.. have all already loaded up so the missing proccesses could be something important)

Im running xp pro on a stable P4 hardware. recently it stopped booting into windows; after windows loading screen computer restarts it self. Through F8 option i got to the blue error screeen which says "Unmountable_boot_volume".
I tried running xp pro cd to get to the recovery console but that doesnt work either. after the options F6 (third party drivers) and F2(automated recovery blah blah) it just goes straight to examining hard disk and then shows the drives and asks to select partition to install xp in.
I read some forums and this problem is caused due to either faulty harddrive, or faulty system files. i dunt think its my harddrive.
i need a way to get to recovery console so i can run chkdsk / fixboot
i dunt really want to format.

A:XP wont boot. ERR: 'UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME'. REPAIR CONSOLE WONT RUN

You do it wrong. I think the option is press "R".

IT WILL TELL YOU ON THE SCREEN.

No need to press any "F" key

The Pc was set up for dual boot ? both with xp pro 1 60gb Maxtor ide Hdd, and the other 80gb Maxtor Serial ATA , was working excellent. Son downloaded a music program I think it was win amp which affected the pc - now the pc wont boot with both drives connected. It boots and works fine with the IDE drive, but won?t boot at all on the SATA drive. at start up screen it gives me the options to boot it either- safe mode, safe mode with network support, safe mode with command prompt, boot form last known good working order. or boot normally. Whatever choice I make, when the pc tries to boot, there is a blue flash on the monitor, and the process starts all over again, it keep going round in cycles ? can?t get to safe mode to delete offending software.

I decided to do a repair or re install, but the computer just freeze after xp examine the system and load drivers. It does not get to where I press the F8. when it freeze it says ?Examining 78529 mb disk 0 at id 0 on bus 0 on viasraid.?
Is there a solution?

A:Sata HDD wont boot, wont reformat

Sata| Drive

Yeah i have the same problem...
Everything was ok i had my sata maxtor 160gb as
my main windows drive, with a partition so if windows
were to have any problems i could just delete that partition!

Basicaly my problems started with a blue screen after my house mate
was transfering from me over a LAN, so turned Pc off.. then alas no more

It gets to the windows splash screen "winXP pro" loading the little bar going
then it crashes and restarts or just frezzes.

I've tryed winxp setup but stops @ 156328mb
also sata hd can't be found if use floppy Win'ME boot disk to do fdisk.

Also have tryed WinXp on another standard ATA hd then add the Sata
whole system slows, takes about 10 min to start windows but Sata Hd
is listed in my computer, but can't access it.

I checked some error logs thses 2 mentioed a lot:
The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk0\D. - Event ID 11.

An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk2\D during a paging operation. - Event ID 51.

So at a guess i think we need new HD's!!!
i got 1 month warrenty left on mine...
shame about the data i had about 90gb of films waiting to be burnt
but it still spins though so i'm gonna try some apps and see if i can get anything back.

Let me know if you have any developments

Cheers Jay

I was running Ubuntu Linux then decided to change back to Windows XP. I was happily running the Windows set-up disc to reformat the entire hard drive. After this was done, the set-up disc went on to copy over a load of files and then went into a reboot, the screen went black (OK) but then everything just hung . In the end I went to power off intending to start again. The computer would not power off except by my pulling out the battery and supply cable. If I reconnect the cable, I can power on with the power button after which I hear the fan and the optical drive being read but then it just stalls - nothing on the screen, cannot get in bios and still refuses to power off. It"s either a big coincidence or the three symptoms ( no screen: no bios: no power-off ) are all a result of the failure to self-reboot during the windows set-up? I have removed the CMOS battery and left it out overnight but to no avail Can anyone help? My laptop is a HP Compaq NX6325. Thanks.

A:Laptop wont boot and wont power off

The first question is hardware or software? That this happened in the middle of a Ubuntu to XP conversion is interesting, but may be purely coincidental. It could be a straight-up hardware problem that just happened to occur at this time.

So, the way to determine this is to try to boot using some kind of media. XP disk, Ubuntu Live, Hiren's, whatever. It if boots, hardware is possibly good. If not, hardware is bad.

If hardware is bad, you WANT the hard drive to be bad. Everything else costs more money than the computer may be worth.

Hi a couple of months ago my system crashed, windows 7 wouldnt boot, and I misplaced my installation disk. I had the problems several times since obtaining the computer several years ago. (Lenovo IDeaPad y450). I attributed the problem to what I believed was a bad hard disk, so I replaced it with a refurbished model.
I installed Ubungu 13.10, and it worked well ever since. I later located my win 7 disk and created a dual boot. Windows worked very well for several months until it stopped starting up last week. It would get to the black windows screen, where it says starting, and usually get stuck there. I would get fed up and turn it off after half an hour. Once it was as the screen and it later started the checkdisk program and found no errors. Another time it finally got into windows after a very long loading time, and it seemed to work fine, until the next time I restarted windows. It just went back to the loading windows screen.
I formatted the windows partition through GParted in Ubuntu, and tried the installation disk, and it would get stuck at 0% in the "expanding files" sequence. After an hour of hoping something would happen I got fed up and forced it off again.
Not sure what to do from this point. I have read other posts and it has led me to think that the issue could possibly be bad RAM or an issue with BIOS. But, Ubuntu has been working fine, while Windows has simply been freezing at any attempt of a startup.

A:Win 7 , Ubuntu dual boot, windows wont boot, startup disk doesnt help

It could be that the HDD has a bad sector in the Windows partition, or that the drive is actually failing. If there is a utility in Linux that tests memory, I would run it.

You could also use Memtest86+. It runs from a CD/DVD. Let it run for several passes to rule out bad RAM.

#1 Hi, basically this probem arose from nowhere. I came back from holiday 6 days ago and my pc took longer than i remember to boot. Only till i realised the next day and day after it was getting longer and some times not loading past the 'Windows' screen. Each time when it hasn't loaded fully, I turn it off and re-boot pressing F8 to get up safe mode, which doesn't work at all.
It gets stuck on '/avgdiseh' doesn't load past and will stay like that till turned off. Start up repair does absolutely nothing, it asks to do System restore which then errors and reboots, if i press cancel it stays on the 'Scanning' screen for hours.. (8 hours today)

#2 I've now seemed to run into another problem trying to boot from my CD drive. First time I loaded everything correctly got to 'install windows' screen clicked start up repair which did nothing. Ever since that windows won't detect my CD drive even though it opens and did read CD's.(watched a film on it the other day)

I've looked online and other people have had the same problems and clearly i haven't found a solution yet. I've tried cleaning the inside of my case, double checking connections, changing boot options. From what i've read its either a failed HDD, failed RAM (, or failed CD drive in the case of my second dilemma)

I'm just curious as to whether anyone can pin point what the problem is. If its an easy fix or whether it is possibl... Read more

I have the following problem with my HP Pavilion m7570n. When I turn the system on if gives the following message: File is missing or corrupt
\windows\system32\config\system. Is there any way to fix this problem without using the HP restore from the partition? If I do have to do the restore from the partition, will I lose the photographs and emails on the computer? Thanks for any assistance?

A:HP Pavilion won't boot

Try this first -

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307545

If that does not work then do a repair XP install (not the HP restore)

I am pretty sure the HP restore partition will wipe everything out and put it back to factory fresh.

Hi I have a HP Pavilion laptop with AMD processor and Windows Vista. I want to reinstall Windows Vista but I can not get it to boot from CD. I went to the BIOS and changed the order so that the CD-ROM drive boots first, but it still didnt work. I upgraded the BIOS but it still didnt work. Any ideas? I want to format the hard disk and reinstall a clean Windows Vista copy. My laptop does not have a floppy.
The CD ROM does work!

Hello, I have 2 notebooks. HP Pavilion DV6-3060EZ which i used and old HP Compaq nx5000. Both have same problem. They won't boot up, but I will talk just about DV6. My battery died and I can't start notebook just with ac adapter. So yesterday I bought new battery. And there is same problem.  When I press power button (with only battery plugged in, only ac-adapter, or both), led diods starts blinking, fan starts cooling and within 1 second it will shut down. I've read some articles on forum, i tried almost everything. I tried to disconnect ac adapter, battery, than 30 seconds hold power button and connect it back but it didn't work too.  But, three-times happens, that when I tried to turn it on, it worked well, I was at Windows on my desktop. But after 5 minutes it shuts down. Thanks for any advice,czDAWID

I need to reinstall Windows XP on my laptop. I have an external DVD and the recovery Disk. I already changed the boot order to boot from CD. But I am still unable to boot from CD. The external is working fine and the CD is O.K

A:HP Pavilion does not boot from CD

Hi Ossita
If the boot order is set to optical drive first, the laptop looks at its internal optical drive. Since it seems like the internal optical drive is not usable(?) then you need to set the boot order to USB or external device ahead of the hard drive.

My computer will not boot. The power supply light in the back turns on.  Fans turn on.  CD-ROM functions.  No USB power and no LED light on the front.  It does not come on at all when the computer turns on.  When I turn on the power, I hear nothing but the fans, the screen is blank and keyboard and mouse have no lights.  I have tested the monitor, keyboard and mouse and they are functioning.  I think it could be the BIOS or either a motherboard problem.  I need some help to narrow down the problem.

A:hp pavilion boot usb

1. Check if the USB device is really bootable, you can do that by checking the files on the root location or by trying to boot another computer using it.2. Start the computer and press 'esc' key to get into bios, then choose Boot Options or Boot Menu, then choose the USB device (Few BIOS have an option to enable/disable Legacy boot options, hence you have to enable it before you could change the boot sequence. Please note that the USB device needs to be on top of boot device list.

Hi,

My HP won't boot properly. I have checked the harddisk and done a new windows installation on the HDD. So the HDD and windows are ok.

When I try to boot the PC it dies and starts over again. I can choose safe mode etc and go into the recovery console but still no success.

What can be the problem? Motherboard? RAM memories??

Is there a way to check for errors on the motherboard or RAM from the recovery console?

/Anders

How to perform a Repair Installation of Windows? XP.

Two things are needed here, just a bit of old technology, an ink pen and a piece of paper to write down any special settings that might have to be changed back after the repair-installation is completed.

Please Note: Performing a "Repair Installation" in this manner should not delete any Personal Files, it should 'repair' the core of the installation but to be safe with your data you should follow the next two paragraphs.

Then when this is done return it to the original computer as a master drive on the primary IDE cable. and do the following:
