Avoid Running Exchange Server 2016 on Windows Server 2016 for Now

Q: Avoid Running Exchange Server 2016 on Windows Server 2016 for Now

A recent cumulative update for Exchange 2016 was intended to add support for Windows Server 2016. But, after numerous reported issues, Microsoft has acknowledged a problem exists.

According to the release notes?

If you attempt to run Microsoft Exchange 2016 CU3 on Windows Server 2016, you will experience errors in the IIS host process W3WP.exe. There is no workaround at this time. You should postpone deployment of Exchange 2016 CU3 on Windows Server 2016 until a supported fix is available.

Once again, Microsoft?s testing of its own patches seems to have taken a backseat to accelerated release deadlines.

Hi Everyone,

I have just installed Office 2016 Professional Plus and I am attempting to access an email account that was originally using Outlook 2007.

The email Server that I am connecting to running Exchange Server 2007 SP1.

Whilst I was able to add the account in Outlook 2016 as Outlook opens it presents the error messages below (in the order shown).

If anybody can offer any advice on how to get around the issue above it will be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards,

Davo

A:Outlook 2016 not working with Exchange 2007 SP1 Server

Exchange 2007 is not supported to work with Office 2016. You will need to downgrade Office or upgrade your Exchange server. I recommend you upgrade the Exchange server to 2016. Or swap to a full Office 365 solution.

Over the weekend we installed a new Exchange 2016 server running on a Server 2012 R2 Std VM (through Hyper-V) and connected all of our workstations running Outlook 2010 to it. They stay connected for awhile (maybe an hour or two) but then go to "Trying to connect." The really strange thing is, OWA works, email on phones works and connecting a computer outside of our network to Exchange through Outlook seems to stay connected fine.

DNS checks out fine and resolves like it should. We can ping and browse to the Exchange server fine.

Strange but I get several "Search" errors in the event log when it seems to stop. (Event ID 3036 the content source cannot be accessed) as well as Event ID 35 - Failed to determine if the store is in the crawl scope.

I am at a loss right now so any help would be appreciated!

I use Outlook 2016 for all my email requirements.

One BTinternet.com email address
One Outlook.com email address

Previously had above two email accounts sending and receiving from the same PST file each using POP3.

Wanted to change the Outlook.com to IMAP with my understanding being that this would then sync both ways with the web-mail for Outlook.com.

Deleted the old POP3 account settings for the Outlook.com email address and then went through the process of setting up again using the automatic configuration rather than the "manually configure" thinking this would automatically use IMAP. (Left settings unchanged for the POP3 BTinternet.com email address).

To my surprise the Outlook.com email address was not setup as an IMAP but as an Exchange Server.

Initially thought this would be ok as this would also sync both ways with web-mail. Soon discovered however that any email coming in to my still remaining BTinternet POP3 email address was also arriving into the Outlook.com Inbox.

Why is this happening and what do I have to do to still keep the POP3 email separate from the Exchange Server email each using their own Inbox? (Both Inbox's are listed in the left hand panel of Outlook 2016).

Any help much appreciated.

I've had a Exchange 2007 instance at home for test, play and general abuse to learn on, broken and fixed it several times.

This allows me to try things before I do anything in the live enviroment at work. I stress its not live, doesnt have any other use other than a test bed. Obviously it functions past the 180 day period and just warns every time I run the console.
In the coming months we're moving upto Exchange 2016 at work and I'd like to re-create my test bed at home. Which seems perfectly possible with the trial version.

Question is does Exchange 2016 at the end of the trial period simply carry on with the warnings as 2007 did ?

I have just succeeded in hooking my Windows 10 client to Windows Server Essentials 2016. To do this I had to switch the W10 from a Workgroup to Domain setup.
All works fine except most of the desktop items originally on the client icons disappeared. Worse when I launce things like Outlook, Word etc. I have to initialize it from scratch.
How does one get all the settings, desktop icons etc. to re-appear on this new account that is now chanced from a Workgroup to a Domain setting.
I am an administrator (and only user) on both the W10 and WSE-2016. I see under users my original name on the W10/Workgroup and a new name. The new name does not have many files in it. I assume that?s the problem. But when I copy stuff from the old name folder across the programs are still not initialized correctly.

Hello,

I have a very frustrating problem. I want to use Windows 2008 R2 Terminalserver with Outlook 2016.
Unfortunately every time a user starts Outlook, he installs the 64 bit Components. It seems there is one solution: Installing Windows Search Role and starting Outlook in Installation Mode.
Seems to work. With that solution, there is another problem: It is not possible to search in pst-files. Windows error log says event ID 3036. Looks like, Windows Search cannot index pst-files (in network). The possible solution to disable indexing for Outlook
does not work because the configuration change got reseted after relogin. This might happen because of our Roaming users.
As you can see, I have one problem. When Windows Search is installed, pst-files are not searchable. When Windows Search is not installed, Outlook 64 bit Components get installed every start of Outlook.

Is there anybody who has other ideas for a solution?

Thank you for your help.

Jens

I am trying to add Windows 10 clients to Windows Server essentials 2016. It seem that in order for the server to see the clients I must the clients join the server server Domain. (Currently they are in a workgroup).

It looks like one has to change the Windows10 clients to access the WSE-2016 DNS. So in windows 10 I go to networks, bring up the adaptor setting. Bring up "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IvP4) and instead of "Obtain the DNS address automatically" change it to always get the DNS address on the WSE-2016 (found with ipconfig).
Then within Windows I use ?System?, ?about?, and Join the server DOMAIN. It now works. The client can now see the Server domain.
I can then see the Server files and the server can see the Windows 10 shared files.
There are still problems however.
When I reboot the Windows 10 client. I have a brand new user screen with only some of my original desktop icons showing. Do I have to essentially rebuild up everything on my desktop again!
Question: Is there not a way to have my original desktop appear when I am joined to the Domain.
Second, since there will be times when the server is off I used the router static DNS IP address as the alternative address in the above dialog box of the Windows10 clients. Seems to work since the client can access the internet even with the WSE 2016 off.
Here is my second question. I have a few home laptops as well. If I force the DNS to the server what happens when I travel. ... Read more

Panda and Avast are the lightest while Bitdefender can be heavy.

Hello,

We have a Windows 2000 server running Exchange 2003. This server sits inside a local domain but receives its mail from an outside domain. (That sounds confusing but it was easiest during our migration after being purchased)

We are trying to create public folders that our sales group can access in Exchange but the security settings for each user always change to whatever the Default users permissions are. For example, we set up 5 users with Author permissions and the Default we set to None. When we did this none of the users could see the folder. So we changed the settings for the default to Reviewer and left the other 5 users as Author. They could then see the folder but they only had reviewer privileges.

Does anyone know a way that we can restrict access to this folder. Any time that we give the Default any permissions than anyone in the company can access this folder. We don't want that to happen.

Thank you in advance.

"Patch Tuesday" broke our install of Outlook 365. It was working fine on Monday and on Tuesday it was hanging on "Processing." So I restored back to the last restore point before the update and it worked great after that. Yesterday it re-installed the updates, and again Outlook didn't load. Restoring again today "fixed" it. Now it wants to update again, so I will disable updates until the problem is fixed. I don't know which particular "patch" is causing the problem; there were about 22 of them that installed.

A:F-Secure Internet Security 2016 vs Panda Free Antivirus 2016

If a security soft ranks amongst the top performing AVs, it won't matter much if it does function correctly or causes problems on your specific system.

From lab test results F-Secure has an edge over Panda during testing the past few years in terms of detection (although higher false positives).

From users, it seems more prefer Panda - which is one of Neil Rubenking's (PCMag) favs (that don't mean much - but that is just my opinion).

I'd say, in terms of overall protection, Panda has a slight edge; it might protect your system in a few instances that F-Secure will not.

ISA Server outside IP : 172.18.0.2 255.255.0.0
ISA Server inside IP : 172.18.0.1 255.255.0.0

I've identified the interfaces IP Address and named all plus the following config:

and then open all traffic to ISA with

then I’ll give ISA server access to the inside network with

I'm completely stuck. I have never set up Outlook Web Access (OWA) on an Exchange server before, and now the boss is asking me to do it. Apparently a consultant who began setting up our network started the process of configuring OWA, but I'm unsure exactly where he left off. I was hoping there was someone out there who has done this before that could kind of walk me through it. We are running a Windows 2000 server with Exchange 5.5. Ok...here's a dumb question...do I need to publish the OWA web files to a web server? Where do I find these files?

Manually installing KB3153199 greatly improves Windows update times for the last batch of windows 7 / vista updates (May 2016).

More information on other updates that "help" speed things up can be found here: wu.krelay.de/en/

The term "solution" might be a little bit exaggerated, since the following HowTo only tries to make sure that the Update Agent doesn't need to check all updates, so the check for new updates is done faster. Futhermore, it's only a temporary solution; most likely the issue will appear again with the next Patchday.Click to expand...

A:Install KB3153199 before running WU (May 2016).

There was a lot of chatter about the high cpu utilization in Windows 7 the past few months. It started in late 2015 and caused the released of KB3102810. People now also recommended installing KB3138612 and security updates from KB3145739 with it. Now there is this NEW KB that fixes it. I'd really like to know the truth...

I did test a clean install of 7 SP1, with the newly released rollup from yesterday, and found checking for updates only takes about 12 minutes after rebooting from the rollup.

Norton is light, has strong firewall, good signatures and cloud reputation + Sonar protection for zero-day threats.

In Exchange 2000, as in Exchange 5.5, a public folder is a storage container for messages or information shared among all users in your organization. Public folders can still contain different types of information, and they are still part of the information store that Exchange clients and Web browsers can access. Now, Microsoft Office 2000 and custom applications can also access Exchange public folder stores. You can open and save documents directly in the public folder stores.

Hello All,
I'm after some more help and advice.

I work for a small Charity, which unfortunately is having some funding problems. This is very bad timing, as we have a backup problem too.

I know throwing money at the issue would solve it, but that is not currently an option.
Here’s our setup:

Windows Server 2000
- File Store (10 Users My Docs)
- MS Exchange Server (10 users)
- Symantec Anti-Virus 10.
- Backup Tape Drive DDS3 (8 x12GB tapes)
and
Windows XP (x 10 users)

My problem is; BackUp isn’t running, and I can’t afford to get professional advice or help (other that you!).
I’d like to think I can do it, but when I follow instruction, I get a warning in the morning saying ‘insert tape #2’, or something to that effect. I figured I have too much data backup.

I need to know:
What Backup software should I use? I have been using NTBackup in the past.
Should I use the last of our cash, and buy VERITAS?
I’m told VERITAS would compress the data, and I wouldn’t need to get bigger tapes (and possibly a newer tape drive to cope with the new tapes).
Or should I buy bigger tapes, (DDS3 24GB) and would they work on with the Tape drive I have?

Or does anyone have any better suggestions?

Please help.
Ps. I’m in London (Old Street), so if anyone wants to pop round out of the goodness of their heart to help, I’m more than happy.
Here’s where I work for http://www.vertic.org

I am looking for advise or any info you guys have regarding using a Widows Mobile device vs a Blackberry to connect to an Exchange Server. I would like the pros and cons of using either one. Also, I need info on how Exchange server works when creating tasks. I would like to create a task and assign it to another user in my organization that also has an exchange account. I want to assign them a task and keep track of their progress on that task and eventually once they complete the task I can mark the task as completed. How does this work in exchange if it all with keeping up with assigned tasks and making sure they are working on them and just keeping up with the progress?

A:Blackberry vs Windows Mobile Using Exchange Server

Anything done with activesyc (windows mobile uing exchange server) will be as if you were at your desktop.

You can connect you BlackBerry to the exchange server via BES for exchange.

How can I estabilsh an account in Windows Mail and retrieve mail from MS Exchange server?
Apparently Exchange was an option when establishing an account in Outlook.

A:How to connect Windows Mail to Exchange server

Hi Harrismith
I don't think you can. please check this page

Quote:
E‑mail server types

Windows Mail supports three types of e‑mail servers. You don?t need to understand the details about these server types; you just need to find out which one your e‑mail service uses both for incoming and outgoing e‑mail:

Post Office Protocol 3 (POP3) servers. Most e‑mail services and ISPs use this type of server, especially for personal e‑mail accounts. They hold incoming e‑mail messages until you check your e‑mail, at which point they're transferred to your computer. Messages are typically deleted from the server when you check your e‑mail.

Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP) servers. These servers let you work with e‑mail messages without downloading them to your computer first. You can preview, delete, and organize messages directly on the e‑mail server. Copies are stored on the server until you delete them. IMAP is commonly used for business e‑mail accounts.

Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) servers. This outgoing mail server handles the sending of your e‑mail messages to the Internet. An SMTP server handles only the outgoing e‑mail, and is used in conjunction with a POP3 or IMAP incoming e‑mail server.

Now, I read you can have your Exchange server configured to support POP3 or IMAP, but I don't know if that is correct.

Edit: apparently it does

Can MS Exchange Server be used with Windows 7 Ultimate, or is it for server operating systems only?

A:MS Exchange Server - Server OS only?

Well, Exchange Server itself requires Active Directory....so you would have to have some server based OS's to run that. And I do not believe that Exchange 2003, 2007 or 2010 will install on a non server based OS. I've never tried to be honest, but I'm pretty sure that it would not install.

A:Kaspersky Internet Security 2016 vs Avast! Internet Security 2016

If you have the money to purchase it, I would strongly recommend Kaspersky Internet Security 2016.
Overall, Kaspersky might not be as user friendly (many alerts when properly configured) and as light as Avast (Kaspersky always was a little hoggy, although that has been mostly fixed in the recent versions), however the security components of KIS are much more mature and powerful (when properly configured) than those of AIS.

In conclusions, if you have capable computer hardware and you don't mind a little bit of configuration and quite a few alerts, I would definitely recommend KIS.
If you believe that KIS might be too heavy for your system, and that you do not really visit suspicious sites and download suspicious applications, then I'd recommend AIS.

I've tried many free antivirus over the years, but these two have always consistently been the ones I liked the most.

After some issues with Windows 10 last year, I had to briefly switch to Avira but after the issues were fixed I got back to Avast because it was the one I had learned to rely upon in the last few years. However, I'm open to reassess my position between these two excellent products. Something that has also spurred me to reassess the situation was the fact that LifeHacker has recently changed their recommendation from Avast to Avira as the "The Best (Free) Antivirus App for Windows".

On one hand Avast offers a more complete feature set:

File System Shield
Web Shield
Mail Shield
Behavior Blocker (DeepScreen)

Still, I disable the E-mail blocker because I solely use Web mail. I also disable the Web shield because:

It seems to slightly slow down my browsing
I don't like to have all my HTTP traffic analyzed by the AV or any other program
Sometimes it doesn't play well with HTTPS because it internally to scan the encrypted traffic which changes the original website's certificate (I know I can selectively disable the Web Shield for HTTPS only)

So, in practice, I have been using the File System Shield and the Behavior Blocker at default sensitivity settings (no Hardened Mode) to avoid too many False Positives and issues with less known software. I've had no problems with this set up for a long time.

HI,
A client has asked me to give them a quote to set up an exchange server and five client computers. Four of the desktops have windows xp home. The network they have was not planned it was an accident. LoL Anyways I am thinking of building the server myself and have built my own server. I used SBS 2003 standard. They also want to implement Outlook business contacts manager. I think their business will quickly need more licenses for the server. Do you have any hardware suggestions and and pricing guildlines to quote them with? Do they need winxp pro on all the desktops? They mostly would like to use outlooks exchange and calendar features. I would want there to be a mirrored raid but am unsure how big the hard drives should be. I have done fine with two 80 gig hard drives. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Do you have the users now connected to Exchange? If so, you should be able to open the local PST files containing the local calendars then drag the local calendars to a public folder (which would be on the Exchange Server).

Hi All

I have a question about Microsoft Exchange server
we are currently using Exhange 5.5 to manage our email (and the same server also acts as our domain controller)

We have a second server running SBS 2003 which runs our sql database (M1 erp)
which requires a lot of grunt

we have done this to lesson the workload on the SBS server and provide redundacy
which has worked well, we are how ever receiving a lot of spam and are looking at options
i beleive we should update the local Pc's to the lastest version of Outlook which provides much better filtering as a start
Would we gain from changing to the SBS server Exchange in reducing the spam as i am not so sure, how ever others say yes so i would just like peoples thoughts on this

Just threw this article together, I want all the brain's in this forum to chip in and if there is anything missing from this article (at all!) let me know ASAP, in this thread.

A top quote :

Previously we wrote a long post about Best Laptops for Hackers, which included a run-down on the best laptops for programming and penetration testing (pen-testing). This article turned out to be very popular even though it wasn't exactly intended to be that, now we are proud to finally publish the long-requested article of 'Best Laptops for Video Game System Emulation'.

The idea of this post is to give an accurate summary of which laptops are suited for, or adept at emulating various consoles and their games, and which ones also can easily perform these duties, at the lowest possible cost.

Now obviously, the better hardware you have the better your system will be at emulating other hardware/software. That doesn't necessarily mean a more expensive laptop. Where the demands of hacking and pen-testing demand vital and significant internal storage, the prerequisites for game emulation are generally just a good graphics processor, and good RAM/CPU.

Your laptop should also be in good working order and not muddled with high-risk pirated downloads and large bits of video. To emulate efficiently, you should also have as little processes and programs running in order for the emulator to run smoothly.

These are all common sense tips but...

I despise windows 10. I was forced to upgrade two days ago. The pop up had been happening for months and I was able to just disregard it. Where was the option NOT to upgrade to W10!? Eventually it somehow froze my windows update because it gave me no option to install other important updates without installing W10. I got that fixed eventually and stayed on 8.1 for a while longer. They made the force-upgrade even more forced recently. I had to either hard shut off my PC by holding down the power button (not good) or to install W10. So I did.

I have a $2,000+ PC and it's slow now. I have almost no programs etc installed. It's not my fault. It was fine with 8.1. I don't even want to get into the hacking the registry and changing all these things around to try and get it faster I have read about others having the same upgrade problem, I would rather just spend the $100-$200 and buy the OEM windows 10 and do a full clean install after support ends for 8.1 in 2018.
I bought (forced like all XP users) 8.1 and got used to it and it wasn't so bad after a while. Of course the whole new GUI was not welcomed. If it 'aint broke don't fix it. We are used to doing things and navigating by second nature and then they go and change that.
And this W10, it auto set me back on the group network and has my location and everything public. Few people want that especially by default.
so anyways, since I upgraded to W10 from 8.1 does this mean after 07/28/2016 it will auto roll back to 8... Read more

My company is running Exchange server 5.5 and it seems that whenever our employees try to email specific customers, the message either fails completely or they get partial messages. I talked with the Network admin at the customers company and they say that it is only with us that this issue occurs. We have only 3 customers that this happens to and the rest work fine. Our exchange server is pretty much all defaults and they seem to be universal values, nothing fancy. Any suggestions?

A:Exchange server issues!

What do the addresses that fail have in common? Are they web mail cusomers, do they use Lotus Notes or CC Mail? I would check you Internet Mail Connector and see if it is set up correctly and also find out if Exchange is using the least cost route to send mail. We had a problem where the mail was taking too many hops before it's final destination and the mail would never reach the intended mail server. If you are using DNS to route mail make sure the remote host is registered on the DNS server or it will not go out.

My director use MAC and we had several issues in the past MAC not sync with exchange server. Is there any software he can use on MAC and compatible for MS Exchange?

He is getting an error on his mailbox saying inbox is full. I have made him to log in to a windows machine and he deleted his old email and deleted items.

Any suggestions?

Regards,
Dippy

The office is running Windows 2000 server and MS Exchange server with approx. 6 machines connected. When anybody in the office e-mails, the recipient is getting a different looking e-mail address than the one it is coming from. For example, if [email protected] sends an e-mail the recipient sees the e-mail coming from [email protected]. When the recipient tries to reply to the e-mail they get a "non-deliverable" message. What could be the cause of this and why would it be happening to everybody in the office at the same time? Thanks.

Look at your user settings in Active Directory. Generally, email accounts are the same as the user name unless you set it up manually or set up a policy that creates email accounts in the format you mentioned.

Hi Folks,

I'm using Exchange 5.5 on a W2K server for my clients at work. I'd say just about everybody is running W2K and Outlook 2000 on their machines. A couple days ago email was getting stuck in 2 people's Outbox and wouldn't come out no matter what. Now 8 people have the same issue and we can't figure out what is wrong. We use SMTP for internal mail and POP3 for external. I've been to Microsoft's support site and tried everything they suggested to no avail and the funny thing is if you go to their sites using Outlook Web Access, you can send and receive emails with no problem. It's just when someone sits at their desk and trys to send email via Outlook that the trouble starts. Has anybody ever seen this? Store.exe is taking up a huge amount of CPU time on the server and the problem keeps spreading. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I used Hijackthis on it in case it would be of assistance. Thanks a lot

I didnt know what other section to post this in so my apologies if this needs to be moved.

I have a work email available through an exchange server via my mobile device. Using these exact same settings I am unable to setup that email with Microsoft Outlook Express 6 on my Win XP Pro computer. I am assuming it is security settings on my companies side. When I try to setup the account from home, using the same settings as my phone, I receive an error. "Outlook could not log on. Check to make sure you are connected to the network and are using the proper server and mailbox name. Network problems are preventing connection to the Microsoft Server computer."

Is there an application that will emulate a mobile device so I am able to use outlook with my work email from home?

I did download Microsoft's Windows Mobile 5 emulator, which is an emulated smartphone. I can access email though that, but I want to be able to use outlook.

Hi Everybody,

I have MS SERVER 2003 SBE with exchange

I need to be able to do the following but dont know the best way / or any way to go about it.

There are a group of 5 who send quotes etc using outlook. When they send a quote they want the other 4 to be able to see it (in case of duplication etc).

I thought they could just CC to the other 4 but that is unnacceptable to them.

So i suppose what they want is a shared folder in outlook called (sales administrator) which they could all view.

Any help would be appreciated

Perhaps someone could enlighten me on atvantages and disatvantages of using a hosted exchange server. My reason for looking at this is we run a company with 3 offices in different parts of the state - we could benefit from sharing calendar & contacts as well as file sharing through this network - am I understanding this correctly? Someone please shed some light on this for me...

Thanks,

Brandon
