Q: Inspiron 7000 Series 7559 Keyboard and Power Button Failure

About once every month, my laptop keyboard will freeze up out of nowhere. It doesn't matter what I'm doing at the moment. However, at the same time, the power button also stops responding. In order to turn off my computer, I have to unscrew the panel under my laptop and unplug the battery cable. After re-plugging the cable in and rebooting, my laptop works fine... until the next time the keyboard fails and I have to do everything described above again.
I have attempted factory resets and system restores but nothing I have done seems to resolve the issue. I suspect that the issue may be related to the actual keyboard's hardware but I am hesitant about opening up my laptop unless it's actually necessary.
Anyone who has experienced this problem or has any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Around once a month, my laptop's keyboard will randomly stop working out of nowhere. It doesn't matter if I am playing a game or just simply browsing Google Chrome. At the same time, the power button stops responding as well. The only way for me to turn off my laptop is to open up the panel under the laptop and pull the battery cable out. After replugging in the battery cable and rebooting, my laptop goes back to normal until a month later when one of these random freezes happens again.
I've tried factory resets and system restores but nothing has solved this problem. I was thinking that the root of the problem being with the actual keyboard's hardware but I am hesitant to open up my laptop unless I'm absolutely sure of the cause.
If anybody has also experienced this issue or has any suggestions, they are greatly appreciated.

Hi there,
I have a brand new (2 days old) Inspiron 15 7559. Today I went to turn it on, and it refused to power up. The backlit keyboard came on, and I noticed that the front LED would come on, then after awhile it would start blinking orange. 
I've tried it without the battery, just on AC mains; and just on the battery and the result is the same. 
I tried looking around for some information but haven't found much related to my issue. Any suggestions or easy fixes? Or is it something that needs to taken into Dell?

I have W10 on a new Inspiron 15 7000 Series 7559. When I have a mouse or trackball connected, I would like to turn off the touchpad. Otherwise stray fingers from typing move the mouse around.
I went to the control panel and found an option that says "Leave Touchpad On When Mouse is Connected". If I turn that off, then the touch pad is disabled. But I'm using a wireless trackball. When I turn the trackball off, the touchpad doesn't start working. I have to remove the trackball's USB dongle before the touchpad starts working. Ideally, the touchpad would work whenever the trackball isn't working. But it's not that convenient.
On my old Dell laptop, there was a hotkey for enabling the trackpad. That would be ideal. I'd like to enable it quickly depending on whether I'm using the trackball or not. I can't find any hotkey on this laptop. And I can't even find a quick way to get to the control panel setting.
Any way to make this more functional? Possible solutions would be (in order of preference):1) Have the control panel setting work whenever the trackball is turned off or missing, even if the trackball dongle is still in the USB port.
2) Have a hot-key that could enable and disable the touchpad.
3) Create a shortcut directly to the relevant control panel page.

Windows does not boot (none, 7,8,8.1,10)
It stops.:

I have recently installed Windows 7 on my Inspiron 15 7000 - 7559. I managed to found most of the drivers and get the hardware working.
However for the Touchpad, I cannot find driver or software for it. Windows 7 just uses the default drivers PS/2 Compatible Mouse. When in the Dell drivers site, it does not have drivers for input devices.
It works fine as a regular touchpad but it does not have the additional function such as two finger scrolling etc. 
This is still fine to me until I realized that my palm will accidentally hit the touchpad when typing. Looking  at my older dell laptops, I saw that there is a palm rejection feature for the Dell touchpad.
Windows detect this trackpad as Atmel Maxtouch.
Can anyone please advise me were to find a compatible driver to solve this issue?
You help and assistance is greatly appreciated.

I have a Inspiron 15 7000 Series 7559.   It is 5 months old.  The left hinge started clicking and now everytime my computer opens the computer is starting to come apart.  I have the premium warrenty.  I have called 3 times today and talked to different people.  I have been disconnected 3 times with no one calling me back.  They say that the hinges are not covered under warrenty.  It hasn't been dropped or mistreated.   I have been a dell customer for over 15 years so i'm not sure  why they are giving me a hard time or not calling me back.    Also while gaming my fan is running super hot.    

Does anyone have any suggestions or a number I should call to get actual decent help.

Does the system overheat? Does it freeze or turn off automatically when its hot? What applications are you using when the fan issue is noticed? Is the fan noisy? Does it run with noise from the time the system is turned on? Are there any bluescreens / system crashes?
Update the BIOS - http://dell.to/2aV8Rib - restart the system and check the fan functionality.

I bought the laptop mentioned in the title, the Inspiron 17 7559, a little under 3 months ago for school as well as some gaming.  A couple days before I spoke with tech support the cpu fan (fan on left side if you're looking at the top of the laptop and are in front of it) began making a horrible grinding/squealing noise.A little background: before going to school, I spent a decade as field technician on both military advanced electronic systems and production-class robotics systems.  So I opened the back panel just to glance at the fan, see if maybe there was a glaring physical abnormalities, as  the fan was clearly grinding on something and when it kicked into high would be scraping fast and hard enough to produce this noise.
I open the back cover, a screw falls out from its happy little home (which is, needless to say, both Not A Good Thing and Ominously Foreboding), followed by the shorn threading which had come from another screw.  Also, three or four  screws were VERY loose.  Which explained why the case had begun to separate near where the monitor pivots attach to the case.  Completely structural screws.  I tightened those up a bit, but didn't mess with any screws in the component housing area, as thos can have specific torque settings and such, and overtightening can do real damage.  As for the fan, its sitting a millimeter or so lower in its housing than the other, and even the slight spinning it did while I t... Can anybody please help me,I set my keyboard backlight to dim but everytime I turn on my laptop again after shutting it down the backlight is at full brightness.I know this doesnt sound like that big of an issue but its bothering me alot.I have windows 10 and updated Dell  software that comes with the computer.

So Dell made a really terrible decision.  They have a transparent strip in the power button for an LED light to indicate if the power is on.  A power indicator is a given in any laptop, no matter how cheap it is.  However, Dell in all of it's genius decided to not include an LED bulb on laptops up to the Inspiron 7000 Series, despite leaving a transparent slot for it.  Seriously, what happened to this brand?!?  Do children make these laptops now?
I want to fix this, as my laptop is no longer returnable and a power indicator is absolutely necessary.  So the only thing I can think of is replacing it with one from the 7000 Series somehow (with some help probably).
This is a Dell Inspiron 5559.  I also have an Inspiron 5547.  Not sure which exact 7000 model I should get the part for...
Are they compatible?
Is there an easier way? Like how Fn+H turns on the hard drive indicator?

The systems use different case and mainboard designs -- and may even be made by different companies.  The answer in all likelihood is no.
I don't think Apple has produced a Macbook with a power indicator -- the PC vendors are playing follow Apple.

I was playing a video game on my laptop around 4:30, when the keyboard suddenly stopped working. The mouse still functioned, so I tried clicking around to see if it was just a problem with the game. Then at 4:32, the mouse stopped working, too. I decided to try turning it off, but neither holding nor pressing the power button worked, so I unplugged the laptop from the charger and left it to run out of power on it's own. At 4:35, the display froze. I know this, because up until then the clock was still working. Currently, the vent fan is still running, and the screen is frozen. No keyboard buttons work, and neither the built-in trackpad nor an HDMI mouse is working.  Is there anything I can do to fix this, or do I need to send it in?The laptop was a brand new Dell Inspiron 15 7000 Series, with Nvidia GeForce GTX and an Intel Core i7.

I am having an issue with certain games where they have sound, but no visual. Using NVIDIA control panel, I can force it to run on my integrated card, which it then runs extremely laggy because its running on the integrated card, VS the 960m.
I only have an issue with this on certain games, some run with absolutely no problem, games like CS:GO, Skyrim, Garry's Mod, and others work fine. But then games like GTA V, Overwatch, World of Warcraft(?), City's: Skylines, Faster Than Light, and more do not work at all if I run it on my NVIDIA card. I see no pattern to any of these games, its just random games work and others don't unless I run them on my integrated Intel GPU.
Let me add I sent my computer to Dell themselves, and they didn't even fix the issue. So I am completely out of options.

Please assistance with this unfortunate case. I have a BRAND NEW dell inspiron 13, 7000 series. Had not been in use for more than 3 days... 
I have problems connecting with the WIFI (although all other devices in my apartment connect smoothly to the router). WIFI button does not turn, switch refuses to move to ON. Red X on the wifi network at the right hand bottom corner... 
I have read some articles suggesting to go the device manager, network adapter and update driver, but when I expand network adapter I only have 2 Bluetooth devices listed. Nothing about WIFI.... please HELP!! 
Second issue - tried to reboot several times as the laptop did connect to the internet for 2 minutes on reboot. All times, reboot fails and I get the following message: Driver Power State Failure.

I bought the Inspiron 15 7000 (1TB HDD, non-touch) two months ago and have noticed that my screen flickers slightly intermittently. I'm adding a link to a video showing the problem at the bottom of this message.
I first noticed the problem during my first week of using this laptop and assumed it was a driver or software issue. Since then I've searched through forums to see if someone else has a similar thing going on. A lot of people have commented negatively about the screen for this model but that's mostly because of the colors and low brightness.
I have installed all the latest drivers (video, graphics, BIOS) from Dell's website as well as played with power settings (Dell Power Manager Lite and Intel's Graphics Properties) but to no avail. I should also point out that having the laptop on battery or plugged in makes no difference and the problem persists.
Please let me know if there's anything else I should try before sending it back to Dell. Thank you!

Hello,

Background
I received my Inspiron 15 7000 (7559) gaming edition yesterday. Brand new from Dell.ca, with 4k touch screen and dual HDD & SSD.

Problem
There is a faint, but noticeable and annoying high-pitch buzzing sound coming from near the center of the keyboard. This happens as soon as I use any audio after I boot. 
When I mute my speakers, the high-pitch stops and is replaced by a much less noticeable low-pitch buzz. 
The high-pitch buzzing volume is the same, regardless if my volume is at 2 or 100. 
Headphones plugged in, there is no buzzing from the earbuds, but still a low-pitch buzz from the laptop.
It sounds like as if the speakers were turned up all the way so there's high- or low- pitched static.
Edit: I'm unsure if it still buzzes when video/music is playing.

Remarks
I am considering re-installing the audio driver, and I will also call support in the coming days.

After Windows 10 upgrade, my laptop appears to be running flawlessly except one major annoyance: the screen no longer auto-rotates when in tablet mode.  This is a convertible PC, so this basically renders tablet mode useless. 
Details:
Fully updated system prior to installation of Win10
After upgrade, I updated all of dell's applications, drivers (one exception, see below)*, and bios.
Display settings - "Lock Position" is turned on permanently (greyed out, cannot adjust)
*When I try to upgrade the video driver, it fails because the recommended driver update for my system (July 23rd, 2015) says its older than the current version.
I suspect this is a driver issue.  Should I go ahead and install the older driver?  I know Win10 just rolled out so I expected a few hiccups but I was surprised to find very little info about this issue as of yet.  I use my laptop as a tablet quite frequently, so I would like to find a solution to this problem quickly. Thank you all for your help!

I have had my laptop for about two months and I have not been able to connect my wireless hotspot (H2O Bolt) to my laptop. I have been able to connect to the wifi provided at school and at the store I purchased it from (Frys Electronics), but when I get home I cannot connect it to my wifi. At first I thought the problem was my wifi, but it seems to work fine with my smart tv, my other laptop, my tablet and my ps4. The only thing it wont connect too is my laptop. I have tried running the network configuration settings many times and it has not helped. I reset my laptop as well, but it did not work. I even traded in my laptop for the same brand and everything to see if it was just the device but it still did not work. I took it to Frys to see if they could find and solve the problem but that was no help. I have run out of options and do not know what to do, i would really like to use my laptop at home for homework (which is what i bought it for) but i cant because it does not connect to the internet. Help some one please!

So, this happened a long  time ago but when ever I try to turn my computer on it wont start up, but when I plug it in there's a weird buzzing noise you can hear it if you put your head near the laptops keyboard and also if you put your head near the bottom of the laptop and there is also no display when plugged in. I really need a solution without buying a new laptop.

Hello, I just bought this Inspiron 7000 gaming laptop as a replacement for my old Studio XPS that *** out recently, and one of the selling points was the ability to add a hard drive in the empty bay. I threw my XPS's HDD into the slot, but then the Inspiron wouldn't boot. Removed it, booted fine. I assumed that this is because the HDD comes before the M.2 SDD in the boot order and tried to fix that, but to no avail. With the HDD removed I set the BIOS to legacy boot, but it appears that reading an M.2 slot is beyond its capabilities, because Windows just cycled "choose a boot option" over and over no matter which Hard Drive disk option I chose (there were 2, I assumed one would be the SDD). I switched the BIOS back and everything's back to being fine.
There must be some way to do this, but I'm coming up empty on searches. Does anyone have a solution?

I have recently experimented flickering in my screen. I purchased this laptop like a month ago.
Acording to some answers in here http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19590879?pi41097=1 , One recommendation is to turn off the Dell extended battery life. But on Windows10 I do not have that option...What i see is Dell Power Manager Lite.
It looks like on direct AC and battery fully charged I do not present the flickering. If I unplugged the AC cable and battery goes lower than 85% I start seeing the annoying flickering.

It will work fine and then all of a sudden it says shutiing down and then shuts down..It may do it 2 or 3 times in a short spna,and then be fine for hours,and then do it again..This thing is only about a little over a month old and I am very upset....

Ive recently purchased a Dell Inspiron 15 7559 laptop and installed windows 7 x64.I've installed all the drivers from the Dell website that matched my model, however i still have issues with the touchpad. I'm able to right/left click but not scroll. I tried downloading the alps and synaptics drivers for touchpad and restarted the pc without any help.
Anyone experienced issues like this and found a solution?

So, I've had my Inspiron 13 for about a year or so. I've had no real major issues or complaints, including upgrading to Windows 10 and those that I did have were solved with a simple search. After having my laptop for a year, its storage eventually filled up. I used a program called CCleaner to delete any junk files on my system, doing my best to make sure the program didn't delete any files that I needed, or that were necessary to the system. However, my best wasn't good enough as my system lost its functionality to automatically rotate depending on what orientation the system is in (Auto-Rotate). I went to the support page for my model, ran the system diagnostic more times than I can remember, as well as doing a full system scan twice, but all the tests showed that my system had no errors and was up to date. I reinstalled all the drivers on the support page, and uninstalled and reinstalled QuickSet64 and the ST Microelectronics 3-Axis Digital Accelerometer Driver, as this thread had suggested the problem may lie there. The touchscreen on my Inspiron 15 7000-series started to go black, 15 months after buying the laptop.  I don't watch movies or play games, or use the touchscreen-feature more than 1% of the time.  The servicer said it cannot be repaired and the entire screen (laptop cover) needs to be replaced by Dell. Is this a common experience -- that is, do touchscreens go bad just after the warranty expires?

When leaving the room where my Inspiron is, I will often leave the screen open and the laptop will go to sleep and the screen will turn off like it is supposed to. However, after leaving the room and returning about ten to fifteen minutes later, I find that the screen has turned on and the camera is actively taking pictures trying to use the facial recognition function. I don't know how long the camera was actively taking pictures but when I felt the camera, it was incredibly hot, suggesting that the camera had been taking pictures for a while and draining a good amount of battery. This has happened on numerous occasions and I enjoy the liberty of not having to close my computer down every time it is not in immediate use. I was wondering if there was some way to prevent this from happening other than just always closing the screen when the computer is not in use.

I just bought a new laptop a few days ago (no exact model, but it's the 17" 7000 series model, and it has a $999.99 MSRP) and while listening to music, I noticed the bass output is very weak to non-existent. I tried playing with every single setting in Dell Audio/MaxxAudio control panel but to no avail. Even tried reinstalling the Realtek Audio Driver, again solved nothing. My headphones work just fine as I tested them on my other devices and am getting bass output with them.
Any help would be appreciated. I really love this model, but I hope I am not looking at a manufacturing defect. The other aspects of the audio sounds fine otherwise, just lacking bass that would make my music enjoyable since the majority of music I listen to has a lot of bass.

I purchased an Inspiron 13 7000 Series 2-in-1 (7347) a few months ago now.
One evening after finished using it, the laptop was turned off and put away as normal.
The next time it was switched on, the screen had cracked!
This now means the touchscreen is useless and makes the laptop unusable at times.
I have already called Dell support and was asked to send pictures to a support staff member.
He has not responded and may have left the Dell Support??
Can someone please assist in resolving this, the laptop has not been mistreated or abused in any way, the screen has simply cracked from closing the lid of the laptop!

Hello, I purchased this touch laptop months ago and it has barely been used or even mobile. I have had an issue with the screen flickering for quite some time, it came out of nowhere prompting me to use the laptop less. 
The screen does NOT have an issue with flickering and brightness. The screen flickers EVERY time I move/touch the monitor at all. Sometimes when I move the entire laptop. Please give advice on what I should do as I don't have a ton of $$ to go anywhere to get it fixed and I bought the laptop in brand new condition from Craigslist so there is not a warranty.

i just got this 2 in1 yesterday
So I noticed the top edge/border of my browser window appeared darker and at first I thought it might by the styling/shading, but upon closer inspection the screen is just dimmer near the top 1/4 - 1/2 inch of the screen all the way across.  I notice this dimmer area all too often.
I did the screen's self test by having the computer powered off, holding down the 'D' key while pressing the power button. While it went through its test I could still see this dim area on the screen. very noticeable as is cycled through different solid colors on the screen.  There dim area is still there after the self test is complete and after a normal boot into windows10. Ugh.
I don't think I can live with this.
Are there any other fixes I should be attempting with this?
Have other's been experiencing this issue?
I'm thinking this might need to be returned, but the question is - Is trying another unit worth the effort?

So I recently bought a Dell Inspiron 17 7000 series laptop and was super stoked.
Then I got home and noticed it has a lot of audio problems.  
When I plug in my external speakers I get a sharp, loud, startling crackling noise when I sometimes change windows.
More importantly, my external speakers are not working with this Dell.   The subwoofer has NO SOUND coming out at all.  The non-subwoofer speakers seem to work fine.

I tried downloading both audio drivers that were mentioned by the verifed answer in the thread here  but I get this error message each time:
Some one please help!  I spent too much on this Dell to get this problem.  Every laptop I've boughten has worked perfectly out of the box except this Dell.

Just got my new laptop today, and of course first thing I do is open it up and put in an SSD. Well it looks like the "holder" that you put the drive in before screwing it into the actual laptop is warped... Photo attached. If you look, towards the left of the pic is where the screw is, then the caddy slowly protrudes out, then goes back in closer to the second screw. Do you guys think this is cause for concern (ie will it randomly one day destroy my entire laptop due to the pressure)? Or if I leave it alone should it be fine.

You could take it out, take the drive out, then use light finger pressure to straighten it out. From what I can see, it wouldn't cause me any undo concern. If the retaining screw isn't binding I wouldn't worry about it.

So I was hoping to be able to add a second monitor with my Dell Inspiron, but I didn't have an extra monitor just lying around, so I was hoping to be able to use my old laptop for the same purpose. I tried hooking up the two computers with an HDMI cable, but there was no response. I'm fairly certain that the issue lies in the Inspiron's Display Adapter, which uses the Intel graphics card instead of the Nvidia one that is also installed. Is there some way to change the display adapter that the computer uses?
Or, if I'm just completely wrong about what's causing my problem, is there something else that could be making it so that my two laptops won't connect via HDMI?

The Hard Drive on my second new Inspiron 17 7000 Series 2-in-1 just died. The first one only lasted 3 days. The second one lasted 13 days.  Is anyone else having a lot of problems with the hard drives in these systems? The system hasn't been jarred (it hasn't even left my living room).
The first issue was I received, this message popped up on the Dell Logo screen:
Repairing disk errors. This might take over an hour to complete.
After more than 24 hours I gave up and exchanged it for a different one.
The second hard drive gave me this error:  Error Code:  2000-0142   Validation: 83350
Is anyone else experiencing pre-mature deaths with their hard drives on these 2 in 1's?
I'm wondering is it:
Low quality Hard Drives
Design issues (like drives getting too hot, they were left both running overnight)
Bad Luck (if it weren't for Bad Luck, I'd have no luck at all).
I'm just trying to decide if I should exchage it for a third replacement or if I should move on to a different system.

Hi,I bought a Dell Inspiron 15 7000 Series laptop around about November time last year, and after a BIOS update a couple months ago or so it now will randomly go to a black screen, but the backlight is still on. The BIOS update being near the time that this began to happen may be a coincidence, but it was the only real change during this period.On this black screen, I have no cursor and none of the buttons on my keyboard do anything. The only solution I've found is to hold in the power button to shut the whole system down. 
There doesn't seem to be a particular pattern as to when this problem occurs, it will just randomly go black.
This has happened around about 6/7 times in the past few months. All the events did occur late at night though (past midnight). However, this could just be because I usually sit on my laptop longer at night time, and therefore that increases the chances of it happening.
Due to many "Black Screen Crashing" problems with Windows 10 - that aren't the same as my problem - a google search did not help.

Try system diagnostics to see if it finds any problem in the components:

Press F12 after power on
Select diagnostics.

You can also check Windows Event Viewer for any error message that was logged when the black screen crash happened.

I just buy a new laptop Inspiron 13 7000 series 2-in-1. It comes with Windows 8.1. It happened (not sure why) that the volume control is frozen at the top-left corner screen with the 0% volume level, so I can not adjust the volume at all both on the keyboard and on the touch screen. 
What I have tried is below
- In control panel, sound, communications: when Windows detects communications activity
  Select "Do nothing" 
- uninstalled audio driver and leave it is automatically reinstalled after reboot
- uninstalled audio driver and install the audio driver downloaded from dell support
- do clean boot and uninstall-reinstall driver
It was resolved once when I tried pull off and push back the usb for the logitech wireless mouse. When the volume control got stuck on screen again, I tried this again but it does not help anymore.

I have a brand new Inspiron 7559 and noticed that occassionally it registers the letters I type twice. After some quick research I realized that it is a common issue with various dell llaptops, although not with my model. Is it a software/bios issue or is it a faulty keyboard? does anyone else happen to have that issue with that specific laptop model?

Hello, I'm having a small problem with my new Dell laptop.
I can't find the option where I could set my keyboard backlight to stay on constantly. It keeps falling asleep (turning off) after a short period of time. Hi everyone,
I am having a problem with the Realtek microphone in Skype.
The symptoms are as follows:
Shortly after beginning of the conversation the other party cannot hear my voice. Video is fine, the voice of the other party is also fine.
When this happens the microphone green bar in Options/audio settings will not be seen when speaking into it.
However I can hear what's spoken into the microphone in the local speakers.
I uninstalled the microphone in manager, re-installed the driver, did not help.
Uninstalled the Realtek hi-def audio driver. This helped first but then after 4 minutes talking the problem returned again.
 
I can see that when this happens the speaker icon in 
Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\manage audio devices\recording\microphone\microphone properties\levels
is crossed out. If I uncross it and put boost and level above zero the other party can hear me again.
This happens spontaneously, by itself. Even without Skype running, so this is why I think it might be a driver problem.
 
Any ideas? (please no "reinstalled driver" advice - has done so multiple times)

I would suggest you to update the BIOS on the computer. Please enter your service tag # on the link below, then download the BIOS required onto the system and install it.

Also, we will need to determine if the issue is with the AC adapter or Battery. We will have to check the status of the adapter in the BIOS; if the adapter is not detected properly the system will continue to receive power but will not charge the battery. Please follow the steps mentioned below to check if the adapter is detected properly.

Start the computer by pressing the power button
Press the F2 key 2-3 times you will now be on the BIOS screen.
Under the Main Tab look for the option that says AC Adapter Type If the Adapter Type says Unknown or None with the adapter plugged in.
Reconnect the adapter to the machine and if the status now shows as Unknown then the AC Adapter needs to be replaced.
Also, I would suggest you to run a thorough test on the battery. You can download Support assist from the link below and run the PC CHECKUP on Battery to check for issues

Just since yesterday my six week old Inspiron 7559 sometimes fails to start and when it does this, the Power and Battery Status Light blinks, two times amber then seven times white, repeats forever.  What does this 2/7 blink mean?  Is it a clue to what is wrong?  The laptop does start sometimes if I hold it at an angle.  Makes me think something is not connected properly inside.  Any ideas?

System LEDs are not Diagnostic Indicators. I’d suggest that you follow the steps mentioned below and check for issue resolution.

Switch off the computer.
Disconnect the AC adapter from the system.
Remove the battery from the computer.
Press and hold down the power button for 15 seconds.
Then connect back all the peripherals and check for issue resolution.

Also, I would suggest you reseat a few components, like memory, hard drive and optical drive and see if that makes a difference. Keyboard removal procedure.

1. Turn the computer over and remove the four screws from the bottom of the computer.

2. Turn the computer back over and open the display.

3. Insert a small flat-blade screwdriver along the right top of the keyboard, just above the row of function keys. Working from right to left, free the keyboard by prying it toward the front of the unit. When free, lift the top of the keyboard slightly to clear the palmrest assembly.

4. Slide the keyboard towards the display assembly to release the front edge of the keyboard from the palmrest assembly.

5. Rotate the bottom of the keyboard up toward the display assembly to expose the keyboard cable.

6. Disconnect the keyboard cable from the ZIF connector on the system board. Gently pry up the latches on each side of the connector.

That should do it. Becarefull not to bump the keys tops on the replacement keyboard as they usually are a pain to get back on.

Ultimate problem: Inspiron 7000 AC adaptor does not charge the battery, and unable to run off just the AC - also have a port replicator, but no different results. Suspected cause: Unintentionally, a foreign DC adaptor plug was inserted into the Dell Inspiron 7000. After that, the system still ran just fine (which I think rules out a motherboard problem). In retrospect, I realize that the system was running on the battery. Once the battery died, the laptop will not power on. When the power switch is activated, I hear the fan come on, and the indicator lights come on, but it just beeps and then shuts down. I followed all the instructions in the Dell Knowledge base - took off all items - drives, memory, etc. Electrical test on adaptor is OK. Dell support just keeps telling me to buy a new adaptor. It sounds like there must be some type of over voltage relay inside the laptop that is switched off. Is there anything I can do, or do I have a new boat anchor?

I've been trying various external audio devices in my Dell Inspiron 15 7000 series laptop: Blue Icicle, Zoom H4N, M-Audio M-Track (MkII) but I can't get any audio from any of them.
They install fine and show up in the "Sound/RecordingDevices" menu in Contro Panel/Settings ... and on all the programmes I'm using: Skype, Cubase etc. but no sound. And these devices work on other laptops, just not this one.
And they used to work on this one, but not any more.
Does anyone have any ideas on what's going on and how to fix it, please?

Select the device on the Recording tab in order to use it as an input device for recording. If you want to monitor the input during recording, right click on the device in the Recording tab, click Properties, select the Listen tab, and check the box.

My keyboard backlight was working fine but then one day it just stopped.
I've pushed f10 and fn + f10 doesn't give any feedback
 
I've gone to the Windows mobility center and made sure things are fine there but still no feedback.
When i push the f10 key the setting in windows mobility center changes but it shows no light on the keyboard

But the CAPS LOCK Light and back light works  
Apart from that nothing else
 
Tried restarting also no feedback from the lights
Also could it have been a recent update that might've caused this?
Is there a driver for this?

Does the keyboard backlight come on when the system is powered up?  If it does, you may have a software issue.
If it does not, you have a hardware problem.  
First thing to check is that the backlight cable is firmly connected to the system board (this will require removing the keyboard to check).

Hello, I have a brand new Inspiron 15 7559 that is having some issues. First and foremost the keyboard is useless after the computer goes to sleep. This just started a few days ago, about a month after receiving it. The screen comes back on after opening the lid and the touch pad works fine. But no buttons on the keyboard produce any response. The keyboard becomes backlit like normal but does not produce anything on the screen when I try to put in my password/pin. I can click on the Ease of Access button and get the on screen keyboard to appear. This does work and allows me to input my pin. But that's no way for my laptop to run. And a laptop without a keyboard is pretty useless. My second problem is that my computer no longer sees my Nvidia dedicated graphics card. I only mention this here because I am not sure that the 2 issues are unrelated. I noticed a few days ago that the Nvidia icon was not in my system tray ( I think that's what it's called) like it normally is. So I opened it manually and it told me that it could not find a driver for this computer. That is odd because just the previous day I had been looking in the program and all was fine. So I followed the link to get a driver. I followed all the instructions on the Nvidia site and downloaded the driver for the card my computer came with. But when installing it a window popped up saying that no hardware could be found on my computer for that driver. Not sure why it doesn't see it.

I am not the individual who initiated this query but I did have the same issue with my Dell Inspiron 5547, where it wouldn't turn on after a power button shut down.
I followed Hema's instructions by removing the battery and charger and then holding down the power button for a few seconds, and then putting back the parts. It seemed to have done the trick... At least for now. Is this just a temporary fix?
While doing a Google search for a solution I seem to have encountered a number of people who experienced the same issue. Can you also explain why this happens with this particular Dell laptop? Is it a model flaw?

Well, Dell was so very gracious and sent me a brand new keyboard stating that mine was defective since it died yesterday morning. Hello, 

I have a Dell Inspiron I5 / 5000 series which would not start on pressing the power button. I called Dell while it was still under warranty (it is out of warranty now), and they advised to simply remove the battery, and reinsert it. The laptop started fine after this tweak. However, it has done the same now on two more occasions, and worked after doing exactly the same each time.
This is now turning out to be a botheration. Would someone advise on a permanent fix?

My name is Kerellos, and I've been having a lot of issues with my built in keyboard.  A lot of the keys stop working at random times (a, q, z, 1, left Ctrl key, ` and Esc key) .  I have tried to reset my computer but it doesn't help.  I end up having to use the touch keyboard, and I don't like to. This is getting very frustrating. Please help.

I have attached several different USB keyboards (including Dell SK-8135) to my laptop to use the number pad in my accounting soft ware. None of the number pads work. I have checked that these keyboards work  when attached to my desktop, they do. I have checked to insure the num lock is on. It is. I tried searching for a driver specific to the Sk-8135 keyboard. No Luck. Any help is Greatly Appreciated.

Good day i have a DELL INSPIRON 15 3000 SERIES.. I started using it from FEBRUARY 2016... I have no problem using it until this June 12 2016.. It just wont turn on... When the adapter is plugged the charging LED opens but later the light will disappear.. I already tried the 30 seconds power press without the battery and the adapter to release the stock power.. But it still doesn't work,,, I'm confused because why do the CHARGING LIGHT TURNED ON WHEN I PUT THE BATTERY ON AND PUT THE CHARGER IN..?? any help please or suggestions... please and thanks

Hi!I have a brand new (like 2 month old) Dell Inspiron 15 5000 series and I've noticed a problem with it. If i turn on the laptop and it's not plugged in, it runs just fine. However, when it's already on and I plug it in to the power, the screen goes to black and after a few seconds it goes to sleep. After, I turn it on again and it works just fine. However, this issue has happened a couple of times before and I don't know what to do to stop it. HELP

I have had the computer since May and all of a sudden the power cord will not plug into the computer, thus the laptop cannot charge.  I had no issues until this last weekend when I went to plug in the power cord, it just fell out.  I can't tell if somehow the receiving end inside of the computer got moved, or if the metal end of the power cord got pushed deeper into the hard rubber part of the cord.  It appears the cord cannot reach to connect.

I purchase this Dell Inspiron 15 5000 Series 15.6 Inch Laptop last December and it was great to allow me to interchange the use of touch screen and keyboard with mouse. Suddenly a couple weeks ago, the keyboard and mouse were not recognized by the system when I turned on the laptop. I got the touch screen working but I need to use keyboard and mouse most. Any advice on how to fix it?

I noticed this crack today, googled, found that I am not alone with the problem and in fact it's a worse problem than I thought - the case may fall apart and the display might stop working. I like the computer and it's been working fine for a couple of years; maybe I can try the Gorilla Glue fix that was mentioned in one of the posts.
Has Dell improved the case so a replacement won't do the same thing?

Hello I did a fresh install of windows 7 and I downloaded all the drivers but the eject button on the keyboard is not working does any body know what could be the issue?

Maybe not all the Dell applications were installed.

On a Dell, the correct and required install is (1) install Windows (2) Install Dell Laptop System Software (3) Install Motherboard chipset drivers (4) install device drivers including Video, DELL SOUND DRIVERS, Ethernet, touch pad, etc.

Windows 7 will install some drivers, but the Dell supplied, in most cases, is preferred and customized for the Dell hardware. The Dell sound driver is one example.

The Dell downloads, using your service tag number is the best option. You can also access "My Dell Downloads" which includes added software. www.support.dell.com

I have a Dell Inspiron 1520 that has an unusual problem. If I press the power button, the hard drive light comes on then goes off and the Num Lock light stays on. The screen is blank. However, if I press the D key and the power button at the same time, the display comes on and goes through a color test, then it goes to a boot page where I can start windows normally. It starts windows and is fine. I am also able to press the function key and power button together to run a preboot system assessment, which is running right now.
Any ideas? Why is it not booting normally with just the power button? Thanks in advance for your help.

Share the results for the preboot system assessment.
Connect an external monitor to the system and then press only the power button to see if there is any display on the external monitor.
Update the system BIOS from the link http://dell.to/1bDPDqb and then check if the system boots normally.

Here's the story. I got home yesterday and tried to turn on my laptop, and it wasn't turning on/booting fast enough. I had already had a stressful day, so there was a major lack of patience on my part. So i kept on pressing the power button and holding it down etc, and I pressed it very hard before eventually quitting. Then i take a break, I try the power button again but this time there is no click/compression. I'm not sure if it's jammed or anything but it won't click/compress (almost like there is a spring missing). So I sit there for a while starring at the screen and all of a sudden it turns on (blue screen says something about repair; was too fast for me to read).
I take the thing apart following instructions online to try and un-jam the power button, maybe it's stuck in a constant hold position, I'm now at the final step and not sure what is happening because there is compression but no spring back when against the power button pcb. I'm not sure what is wrong I need any help at all.
Do you think I broke the capacitor in the power button pcb or maybe I exceeded the limit of proportionality in the surrounding plastic and negatively alter the elastic modulus from applied stress/strain?

within two months of my brand new laptop, I ended up with 4 issues. I wont take up any more.
To summarize my experience so far.

- Bought laptop on 25/03/2016 - Dell Inspiron 5559.
- within couple of months, I started getting issues on my new brand laptop.

- First Issue : wifi issue : which vivek was trying to address, and I ended up with laptop formatting.

- Second Issue : On follow up call regarding the same : sushil identified a Bios mismatch and I followed the advice and ended up AGAIN with laptop  formatting.

- Third time : Power button issue : its identified and qualified by your service engineer at site that there was an issue with power button and needs replacement of  the component.

till software formatting, I can bear and manage my effort loss. But when it comes to hardware part replacement, I want to differ.
I don't want to open the brand new laptop for any reason whatsoever, which is just 2.5-3 months old.
I need a replacement of my laptop. if not please redirect me to the concern team/person with whom I can discuss with.

Have Dell Inspirion (service tag 8KF9DK1) running Vista (yea, it's over 5 years old) Had the Dell off to side of my desk for 1 year, not in use, after got an HP laptop. Had 19" monitor I used for Dell and then set up with the HP  laptop for better screen/larger screen. Monitor had worked fine for years on desktop, and the last year great with the laptop. Last week I got a new Dell 23" wide screen and set that up with the laptop yesterday-works great. Today wanted to pull some old data off Dell desktop onto a 32g USB drive and the transfer to laptop. When first tried to boot Dell, got power, but 5 beeps and blinking amber front power light  when it tried to boot. Green light was on, steady, on the back of computer. Powered down, tried trick of removing all memory sticks, restarting (all fans worked at this point), turning off, and reinserting memory sticks. Then reattached all cables for peripherals. Know the monitor is fine....before I connected it to Dell, it came up.When turned it back on, amber blinking light on front of Dell (power button) but no power. Checked interior connections and realized I'd knocked power cable off hard drive. Reconnected it, and now have power but still the constant blinking  amber power button.  Checked all connections. ARRGGHHHH.... All I really need is to pull the hard drive and get the data off it onto my USB stick, Is there an adapter I can use to connect this old hard drive into my laptop, even thou... I have a Dell Inspiron 1420 and it has been working great until the other day. As I was using the computer the keyboard failed and I was only able to use a couple of keys. I re-started the computer hoping that it would mend the problem, however it did not and now I am stuck at the password section to start windows. I cannot type in my password due to the malfunctioning keyboard. I re-booted the computer several times and during the re-boot process the computer beeps very loudly which it has never done before. I am able to get into the F2 setup but the arrows are not working properly either and the F12 button does not work. I am not sure what to do or even how to get back into my computer to even fix the problem. If anyone has any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated

Hey dude,
It sounds like your keyboard is pretty shot up,
if you know how to replace the keyboard it might be worth buying a replacement keyboard, there no more then about 15/20,

I might not of been such help, but keep it in mind that its most likely busted.
