Hello, we have recently purchased several HP Elitebook 1030 G1 notebooks. These come with Windows 10 out of the box, and no discs at all. HP seem to offer a Windows 7 recovery disc via drivers & downloads but this only seems to be for drivers and applications post-Windows 7 install. We still use Windows 7 (Enterprise x64) deploying via SCCM. As the laptop doesn't have a LAN port HP support suggested getting an HP USB-C to Ethernet adapter, but this doesn't seem to help with PXE boot. So moving onwards, I then attempted to do a manual install of Windows 7 x64 via USB. Initially it didn't even boot without turning off secure boot and turning on legacy boot. As the laptop has an M.2 ssd it is not even found by the setup process. I have now gone through adding sata and usb3 drivers via dism to boot+install wim's and also an MS hotfix for NVMe support (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2990941). Unfortunately after all this it is still not able to see the hard drive. Unless I am going blind I cannot see any information about this on HP Support. Has anyone done this on this model notebook or similar (ie M.2 ssd)? Thanks

Hi,

Please guide me how I can get a driver for my brother printer HL -1030 for Windows 7. I called Brother office in Canada and they say this printer is not compatible with Windows 7. Is there any other printer driver I can download and get my printer working.

Thanks in advance.

A:Brother HL-1030 printer driver for Windows 7

You should be able to use the XP drivers and install them in compatibilty mode.

Here's a link to the XP Home/Pro 32-Bit Drivers
Brother Solutions Center: HL-1030: Downloads: Others

To run the installer in compatibility mode:

Right Click Installer > Properties > Compatibility > Select the OS you want. (In this case, XP)

@BocaRay?, welcome to the forum. Here are the Software and Drivers Downloads for the computer for Win 7.  If you haven't done so, you should run HP and Windows Updates, also.  You should use HP Support Assistant to check for HP updates.  The latest version of HPSA is here. Please click the Thumbs up + button if I have helped you and click Accept as Solution if your problem is solved.

Greetings,  I was wondering what to look for if I wanted to upgrade my 320-1030  in terms of a motherboard and CPU? I was contemplating upgrading the CPU to an A8-3820 on the existing board, but I now am wondering if it is possible to move to a faster CPU (which I am assuming would require a new motherboard  if that is possible).

Hello RJ,

If you like, you could use OPTION ONE to create yourself a Windows 7 installation DVD or USB flash drive that you could boot from to do a clean install of Windows 7 with at boot instead. The TIP section tells you how to get an official Windows 7 ISO to create this from.

Hello, I've been saving up for some time now and I would like to build a good gamin computer. I know I have the right money to build a solid performing one, one that can run games on high quality too. The only problem is, I don't know which parts to buy. I do know how to build it however. I would like some help selecting parts from you. One final point, I will want it for doing other stuff, not demanding just practical uses like searching and making documents etc. Thanks so much!

You need to provide a little more info;
1 Do you want amd or intel?
2 Do you have any parts you are going to reuse ie case, keyboard/mouse, optical drive, etc?
3 Are you including the cost of windows for your new build?

Hi nmorrisonaz,

Not sure If any malware can do that.

But please do this. Click here to download Hijack This. Run Hijackthis.
Click the "Scan" button when the scan is finished the scan button will become "Save Log" click that and save the log.

Go to where you saved the log and click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" then Paste the log back here in a reply.

DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required. Someone here will be glad to advise you on what to fix.

*Note: When you download Hijack This Do Not download it to a temp folder or to the desktop. Create a permanent folder somewhere like in My Documents and name it Hijack This and put it in that folder.

INITIAL ISSUE: Could not boot

Last week, I tried to dual-boot install Fedora Linux onto my Windows 8.1 PC (Asus CM1435 Desktop). I resized the Data Partition (not OS partition) by 100GB. I then restarted the PC, and Fedora seemed to work okay, however, I could not got Windows to start anymore. I then turned on Secure Boot and other Windows 8-optimized settings and tried to start up again; it did not work, Windows could not boot.
I tried to search up some details on how to fix this problem, and I came across bcdboot and bootrec commands, and ran them (/fixmbr, /fixboot, /rebuildbcd), however, there was no luck, as /rebuildbcd gave me a 0 disks found error. I also followed the instructions here (https://neosmart.net/wiki/recovering...ws-bootloader/). At this point, "Windows Bootloader" disappeared from the BIOS. Restarting resulted in a "Missing Operating System" error.
I tried using a Windows 8 installation disk, and tried Reset and Refresh, but neither worked. Reset gave me "Recovery Partition could not be found" (was still there, just got messed up in the resize or something), and Refresh gave me "Disk where windows is located is locked" (perhaps from fast reboot?)
Then, I gave up all hope on the current installation. I booted into my Windows 8 recovery disk, formatted C:, and installed it from there. When it got to "Windows needs to restart to continue", restarting put me to "Missing operating system", and I coul... Read more

Having trouble finding an answer to this, I have a desktop (currently running Win 7 x64) and a laptop (currently running Ubuntu) but I'm having loads of problems with the 64bit version of windows on my desktop and I want to switch so Ubuntu is installed on the desktop and Windows 7 (32 bit) on my laptop. I would only be using Windows on 1 pc but obviously it's already been activated on my desktop so would I have any problems activating it on my laptop? Is there a way to "deactivate" my desktop so I can activate it on the laptop or am I going to have to call microsoft and hope they'll allow me to do this?
Thanks

Don't worry about activation, as long as you have the retail license and not the OEM. If it gives you any problems, a quick call to Microsoft will take care of it.

Hi all,
Recently purchased a hand built PC AMD XP 1800 win xp / dvi + usb card 1.5 GHZ win xp 3.0 G Ram. C drive 100 GB;
G drive 300 GB; I drive 300 GB. DVI Video out zip drive, LG super multi drive, SCSI Card + USB Card in Server style case.

When I rec'd this computer from an auction and booted up to explore its contents I discovered the G and I drives were blank, and that the C drive has an illegal copy of Win XP pro installed on it. I got a popup notice while taking the SP3 upgrade online from Microsoft of this "not so kosher" operating system. Got rid of the nag by completing a system retore to an earlier date / time prior to the notice from MS and used a sp3 cd for the upgrade, works fine.
Feeling a little guilty about continuing is this manner and didn't want to toss over $140.00 US dollars to make the OS totally legal on a small 100 GB hard drive.

I find that this new (to me) PC is ideal and would like to keep it as my main / primary desktop. This PC was built by a University educator who taught computers to students. Seems to be a nice custom Gamer hand built server style tower with a large side door window so you can see all the pretty blue lights. I realize that the single core amd win xp 1800 is one of an earlier time and isn't what my new HP Laptop is, but it happens to be my desired "toy" for the time being.

A:Install Windows XP Pro OEM on a "Hand Built Desktop" PC

I have various Microsoft OEM/System Builder CDs/licenses.

I've found no difficulty installing any of them, either as a clean install or as a repair install.

My personal feelings about illegal copies of XP...is that they probably contain embedded malware, but that's just a personal feeling.

In any case...it's probably better to do a clean install (after deleting any partitions that currently exist) on a system that is not purchased new, IMO. I see no point in continually taking out someone else's trash, when I can just start out clean.

I normally am long winded, but I'm so frustrated with this I'm going to just lay out the facts.

My home PC is plugged into our DIR-655. My work laptop connected wirelessly, and was part of my work Domain. Home PC is the default WORKGROUP. Out of the box the remote desktop worked like a dream. ( Both PCs ran XP Pro SP3 ).

Both got slow and clogged so had Windows XP Pro reinstalled. Remote Desktop wouldn't work. After much searching and following instructions, I gave up and reinstalled XP on my host PC. Laptop was then able to connect .... for a few days. Updates came down, installed, now it won't connect again.

Here is where I'm at:

HOST PC ( wired )

XP Pro SP3
Firewall OFF ( still have the LAN connection as being open to RDC )
Terminal Services is verified running
Netstat -an shows 3389 is listening
Can RDC to the laptop no problem

LAPTOP ( wireless )

XP Pro SP3
Firewall OFF
Termianl Services is verified running
Netstat -an shows 3389 is listening
RDC doesn't even get an error, withing 1 second of click connect, its just reset back to the main RDC screen.

I don't know how more wide open this could be and still not work. I've exhausted my attempts, everything that should be running, seems to be, the port is listening, and the firewall is outright off. I can ping the PC from the LAPTOP no problem.

Any thoughts?

** I've also started to roll back the updates but none seemed to help the situation **

I'm trying to go about this the safest way, the least intrusive way. I want to install an old 56K internal modem into a Windows 7 desktop PC.

I have it plugged in securely, the green light is on solid.

I initially got a code 0028 for missing drivers, but later, after restarting and using the Wizard to "install legacy hardware", Windows 7 says the modem is now set up successfully.

But when I query the modem in Device Manager, I get the error message "Modem failed to respond. Make sure modem is connected and turned on. If it is internal modem, verify that the interrupt for the port is properly set".

I bought the pc used. There were no entries in Device Manager for a modem when I bought it, but I think there was already an entry for a Com1 in the Ports category.

The new modem is assigned to Com1.

the drivers listed for the modem, in Device Manager are:
windows\system32\drivers\modem.sys
windows\system32\drivers\RootMdm.sys
hardware id shows up as moto1_gen.

location shows up as "Unknown".

Could it be that I need to uninstall / reinstall something in Ports, so that Ports searches for and links up with the new modem? How would I do that?

What harm would it do to uninstall and reinstall drivers for Com1 in Ports?

I'm afraid to hose something up !!! Too many horror stories out there !!
I hope I can get the modem working without downloading any executable code. Afraid of it.

Happy to provide any info I may have left out.

Hey all,

I have just installed the new Anniversary Windows 10 by clean installing, not upgrading over the previous version. Something odd has happened though, can't explain it.

My process:
1. Downloaded the latest build to a USB using the media creation tool;
2. Removed all the hard drives (physically unplugged them) except my OS drive (SSD);
3. Installed Windows 10 Pro in UEFI mode by selecting the custom option and deleting ALL partitions as per the guide in these forums;

My disk just shows the one "unallocated space".

Everything went fine BUT when Windows booted up to the desktop after installing, my original customised wallpaper was there. How can that be? Surely that is not possible on a CLEAN install? Where did Windows find this wallpaper and how did it know to load it?

Thanks in advance!

Hi: See if this works... I found out that Intel removed USB 2.0 chipset support from the Skylake chipset.  This means that normal USB installs for windows will not work.    The Microsoft Windows ISO doesn't have the native USB 3.0 drivers either, and that is why your USB KB and mouse go dead. So you have to add the USB 3.0 drivers into the Windows ISO.    Intel came through on tihs one too.  They have a utility that does all the work for you.   https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25476/Wi?ndows-7-USB-3-0-Creator-Utility Run this and point to your USB Installation media and hopefully, W7 will install.

Ok guys, im new here so i hope you can help me to figure this out.

I have been more than 3 days fighting with this an my options now are CERO. My problem:

Im formatting and reinstalling a fresh Windows XP on a Compaq Presario SR1923WM desktop, the first installation process that copies the files to the hard drive its fine, the problem starts when xp starts to install devices, it firstly was stopping at 35 minutes, i tried to find out the problem opening the setupapi.log, then i did erase the .inf causing the trouble and nothing. By the was i was using aXP version.

Then i tried with another disc, this time a Windows XP for HP machines, this times the minutes went down completely, the progress bar reached the 1% and then again showed me one gray screen and the system was hanging again.

Then, i figure out that the initial XP installed on the machine was the Windows XP Media Center Editio 2005, so i tried to install this with an OEM disc and then again it started to hang at 35 minutes.

I have tried other XP disc and nothing happens, i just can't get any OS installed on this PC.

Any help would be so much appreciated!

Sorry for my grammar im not native english speaker.

Johnny.

Hi, I hope someone out there can shed a little light on this situation as it's doing my nut in!

We have a network with 3 Windows 2003 servers and workstations all with XP. When the users log in a script runs which maps network drives and pushes printer connections etc. Also we have several group policies set which restrict pupils and staff in certain ways. Nothing drastic though. Just 'Cant see certain Control Pannel Items etc'.

Now all was working perfectly until a couple of weeks ago 2 staff members came to me and said "I can't get on the interenet or e-mail". I had a look and when they logged in on their normal computer it seemed to log in fine but then receieved a couple of "Cannot perform this action due to restrictions on effect on this computer" messages. This message also appears when they try to click on the Internet for example. On closer inspection it has run the scripts ok because I have the shared drives and printers. But the virus scanner which is sophos in our case hasn't loaded (it comes down from the server), also there is no All Programs in the start menu, or shut down.

If I log off and check the event viewer I have event 1030 there which refers to an error with group policy.

Now the most annoying problem is it appears completly random with it's timing. Usually a shut down and restart of the computer fixes it. Moving to another computer can also fix it. It dosent always do it on the same computers, other... Read more

Hello everyone, I have been trying to get my wireless working on my Dell Inspiron n5110 on Windows 7 64 bit to no avail. In device manager I have the error "code 10 this device cannot start" I have tried almost everything so far. Reinstalled drivers multiple times, with multiple versions. I have replaced the adapter even though I knew it was a software problem because the wireless works on a live boot Ubuntu and as a last resort I have reinstalled Windows and installed all the proper drivers but still nothing. Any thoughts on what I could be missing or some suggestions?

Is it just my imagination or has the attempts to begin communication on about ports 1025-1035 begun to rise?

Looking over data on this I really dont see its nominal importance other then the beginning of the road or bottom of the stairs to attempt throughput communication, if you will =)

Anyone else care to take a stab at this ?

I am totally obsessed with downloading music, but awhile ago I attemped to download an upgrade to the basic Kazaa system. Once I had fully downloaded the upgrade I went to click on Kazaa and a message popped up saying," You have uninstalled a part of Kazaa needed to run and to close and reinstall." (I believe it was called error 1030, I'm not positive though) Anyway, I uninstalled Kazaa and reinstalled several times and the same message keeps appearing.I checked to make sure I had all the needed componets to run Kazaa aswell. I can't figure out what to do. I tried other music sources but I can't find one I like as much as Kazaa. If you know what I should do please HELP!!

A:Kazaa Error 1030, any adivse?

What I would do is:

1. Use a spyware scanner to delete all the spyware that comes with the Kazaa download
2. uninstall Kazaa using the JV16 power tool
3. Do a file search for Kazaa and delete all of the files that are found.
4. Backup the registry
5. Use Jv16 power tool to clean the registry.
6. If you want to and are brave enough, do a manual search for useless Kazaa keys in the registry (be sure to have a backup if you do this)
Reinstall the latest Kazzaa with all of its Spyware. (Perhaps you might want to try Kazaa Lite)

I bought a new Dell tower running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit to use as a spare in case my main XPS desktop dies before Windows 10 is stable - having problems deep in the OS and it's making periodic noises. It has Office 2010.

The new tower has a 30-day trial version of MS Office 365. But I have a disk and key with Office 2007 on it.

What do I have to do to install it to use while I wait? Should I uninstall the trial version?

Any other suggestions appreciated.

I just installed Windows 7 Ultimate x86 architecture, and after I install, on the second restart it goes straight to a black screen (my monitor is working, it's a black display or something) right after it does the loading for Windows. If I restart, the same thing happens - safe mode works, but it tells me it can't complete the installation in safe mode and must restart, returning me to the black screen. If I "repair" it, nothing changes.

What could the issue be?

I am getting ready to do the Windows 8 Pro 64 bit install on my P5Q Pro Turbo C2Duo desktop. I am downloading all the newest drivers and picking out the programs I will not be using ran the advisor which told me what I already guess would be issues. I usually disable the hidden Full Administrator account but i think this time I am not going to go that route. I have been running W8Pro on Laptop since it was released back in August with no issues art all, runs very fast and stable, only problem is cannot use my Symantec End Point 11.0.5.0 I have used for years, so have settled for the built in security which is doing a good job. I have the keys to enable the Media Center since I have tuner in the desktop and i also run Media Center in the dv9230us Laptop with no issues. If any one has any tips let me no, and yes this will be clean install.

A:Desktop install Windows 8 Pro with/Media Center 64bit

I wouldn't recommend the built-in Admin account as a daily driver as it can't run modern/metro apps, but if all it's going to be is an HTPC it should be fine. However, given the HTPC stuff will run fine as a limited user account and get the additional sandboxing and security, I'm not sure there's really a need to run as admin either. Just my thoughts, virtually out loud .

Six months ago, I installed Windows 10 from an update.  My computer had been using the 8.1 operating system.  For some reason, everything went haywire a couple of weeks ago, and I went to recovery and reset the computer to default factory settings.  It took quite a while for this to complete.

However, after I did this, I had several updates that had to be completed, and I did this.  Then the Windows 10 update logo appeared on the bottom of my screen, and I tried to update to Windows 10 from 8.1.

I am unable to do this now.  I get an error message that "We couldn't update the system reserved partitions."

When I contacted Windows Support, they said that sometimes after updating to Windows 10 and then refreshing, the next update wouldn't work well.

What can I do to get Windows 10 back on my computer.  I am so used to it, and I really like it.  I am old and cannot do really difficult tasks, but I can do some.

Thanks. for your help.

hi - I have installed Windows 7 32bit on our church desktop but when I try to get on the internet it tells me "Windows did not detect a properly installed network adapter. If you have a network adapter, you will need to re-install the driver."

I took the side off the hard drive and saw the name Maxtor - I used the church's new laptop and googled Maxtor (which is now Seagate) and found I could download a new driver but since I can't access the internet on the desktop and don't need it on the laptop any help you can give me as to how I get the new driver installed on the desktop would be appreciated.

I installed Windows XP the normal way but after installing Windows XP, usually the first run will have a wizard asking me to set up my computer for the first time, asking me to create a user account, set up settings, etc. Except that wizard never showed up. After Windows XP was done installing, it took me straight to the desktop under the default administrator account. I Googled the problem but nothing of this kind showed up. the only thing that had "first start" in the name on Google was an unrelated Windows 95 virtualbox result. everything else was junk. This is a weird problem because Google doesn't even know about it.

The Computer:
Acer Aspire M3800 Desktop
Vista Home Media Center
4GB of RAM
640GB 7200RPM Hitachi Hard Drive 3.0 Gb/s

The background:
Hard Drive crashed. I spent $795 for a data recovery company to recover the defective hard drive. I gave them a Western Digital Caviar Black 32MB Cache 7200 RPM 1TB 3.0Gb/s SATAII hard drive to transfer all the recovered data to (included the original Vista system recovery files). The files were recovered 100%. I transferred the recovered files to a Seagate external usb 500GB hard drive. I used a ATA/IDE to USB adapter to and connected to my laptop to wipe the WD Caviar HD clean using Ubuntu and then partitioned (20GB / 980GB) and then formated (NTFS). Installed the WD Caviar HD into the Acer and attempted to do a clean install of Windows 7 Professional with no success.

The problem(s):
#1: The computer kept shutting down while Win7 is Expanding Windows files (0%). I discovered that the SATA Controllers were set to RAID. I changed them to IDE and noticed improvement. However, Win7 would keep shutting down during Expanding Windows Files (21%, 33%, 55%, 56%, 63%....10 freakin' times until finally, it installed).

#2: I noticed the BIOS needed an updating. I couldn't figure out how to use a USB thumb drive to flash the BIOS in DOS at startup. Tried several times and several ways to no avail. I gave up and proceeded with installation attempts #4, 5 and 6. Any assistance with this problem would be greatly appreciated. I tri... Read more

Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

I think your Windows 7 partition is too small at 20 GB.

With a 1 TB hard drive you can afford to allocate more space for Windows - I'd suggest 100 GB should be more than enough for Windows 7 and any applications you install.

These event just started appearing a day or two ago, but they continue to repeat every 5 minutes:

Event 1030:
Windows cannot query for the list of Group Policy objects. Check the event log for possible messages previously logged by the policy engine that describes the reason for this.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

Event 1058:
Windows cannot access the file gpt.ini for GPO CN={31B2F340-016D-11D2-945F-00C04FB984F9},CN=Policies,CN=System,DC=bbpi-pdc,DC=billsblue,DC=com. The file must be present at the location <\\bbpi-pdc.billsblue.com\sysvol\bbpi-pdc.billsblue.com\Policies\{31B2F340-016D-11D2-945F-00C04FB984F9}\gpt.ini>. (Windows cannot find the network path. Verify that the network path is correct and the destination computer is not busy or turned off. If Windows still cannot find the network path, contact your network administrator. ). Group Policy processing aborted.
They occur exactly every five minutes, and always in this order. I searched for the gpt.ini file it's looking for and found it.

I don't really have any group policies in place, just basic users and computers. Nothing fancy. And I'm afraid I don't quite understand AD enough to just 'experiment' until I make these error go away.

Any ideas and/or guidance would be welcome.... thanks

A:Event 1030 & 1058, repeating. Guidance?

One possibility:
As per Microsoft: "This behavior may occur if the following conditions are true: your Windows XP-based computer is a member of a domain, and the Microsoft Distributed File System (DFS) client is turned off (disabled). To resolve this issue, turn on (enable) the DFS client". See M314494 to find out how to do this. Also check M810907 for a hotfix.

i have some pesky files burrowed into my pooter, i am pretty sure the files in the temp folder are bad....but when i search for the executable, all i can find are prefetch files....i think the prefetch files are generating the temp files...

i have used msconfig to stop some files from statring, and that has stopped an error screen that displayed this message at start up everytime:

rundll egdhtml-1030 dll error

i reactivated them in msconfig for this logfile...

also- whenever i turn on the computer, it frezzes up after booting to windows, i found that killing all the rundll32.exe files make it able to run again!!!!!!

so they must be bad, too...

here is my log, thank you very much for any help!!

I noticed my wireless 1030 is acting strange after getting BSOD(not the cause of Wireless but it was solved)and now I'm experiencing some problems, here are the issue. I'm worried if it is the NIC card

1.like it takes a while to connect to a certain webpage then whenI looked up on Event viewer it stated in the lines of Google too long to respond DNS

2. sometimes the wireless would switch off by itself and when I try to reconnect to my home router it says "Cannot find my router* yet I can see it shows my wireless router is available then when I look up event viewer it states " NETBIOS over TCPIP has entered Stop state".

I would have to click on

It almost sounds like a nic driver issue. Have you updated it recently? Try to update, or roll-back if update did not work.
Replacing your nic should not be to hard depending on your device. Usually the nic is the easiest of the add-on boards to get to. But, I really don't think it's the nic. Were you changing, installing, updating anything with your hardware, operating system when this happened? If driver update/rollback doesn't work, try a system restore if feasible.

First up, hello everyone.

I have XP computers connected to a SBS2003R2 domain that is posting 1030 Userenv errors in the eventlog. I've not checked them all but three of them definitely are, so we can presume they all are.

Through Userenv.log, I've wiggled it down to two variants of:

USERENV(314.480) 21:50:37:892 ProcessGPO: CheckFilterAcess failed for <CN={C94DA5DA-A892-44ED-B77D-618A143ED5CC},CN=Policies,CN=System,DC=[domainname],DC=local>. Filter not found

Followed by many of the following that correlate with the eventlog errors:

USERENV(318.868) 09:47:24:929 ProcessGPOs: GetGPOInfo failed.

My question is - whereto from here? OUs, GPO and the such is on the edge of my knowledge. It seems that if I can find what GPO is failing, I'm there.

A:Eventlog 1030 and userenv GetGPOInfo failed

I would suggest since you are apparently having troubles with a Small Business Server that you ask to have this post moved to the Networking forum here at TSG. You will get a better response there. You can do this by clicking the little triangle at the top right corner of the window and ask a moderator to please move this thread to that forum

The video card in my Pavilion h8-1030 died and I need to find a replacement. If possible, I'd like to upgrade the card at the same time to the best possible card that would work on this system, within on total $350 budget. Being overly optimistic and with a big dose of wishful thinking I had actually ordered a MSO GeForce GTX 970 , but before it arrived I read that it will not work as teh BIOS version cannot be upgraded to version 8. So I am sending that card back as soon as it arrives. I am unable to buy a whole new computer at this time, so I'm going to have to settle for a new GPU (and PSU if needed). I don't game but I do use Adobe CC 2015 applications, mostly photoshop adn lightroom but ocasionally also premiere and in-design. Before failing the old card was struggling with certian photoshop functions and video editing was slow and frustrating. Hi, The version 6 BIOS in your PC is not compatible with many of the newer graphics cards.  You will need to use an older legacy graphics card in your PC.  The processor and memory in your PC are more than sufficient for most use. I suggest that you look for a NVIDIA GTX 660 for around $226 new on Amazon. You can find the GTX 660 on eBAY for a lot less.  You will also need to replace the power supply. The Corsair CX650m should be around $55 after rebate.

This isn't a major problem, but I would just like to understand how it happened.

Some background. This is a Windows 10 clean install on a new SSD drive. The original HDD is still in the computer with a corrupt version of Windows 8 on it. My Windows 10 installation did not require a password to log on.

Last evening I searched, in the app store, for a version of Spider Solitaire that I had previously used on Windows 8. The app store wanted me to log on to download and install it. I think my mistake was that I used my old password to attempt to log on, maybe should have left that field blank. The app store didn't recognize my old password, probably because none was setup, and then I proceeded with the whole "forgot password", "new password" setup routine.

Now, this morning, when I boot up Windows I have to use a password to log on. I think I understand how that happened and have already corrected it. But what I don't understand is when Windows boots to the desktop my old Windows 8 background image is back! That picture is not even on my C drive! It does still reside somewhere on the old D drive, but how did this happen?

A:Windows 8 desktop background image returned on Win 10 clean install?

Ok the way this work is to access the store you need your MS account login. To login to Windows 10 you need a MS account or a local account. You can login using a local account when you click on the store it will ask for your username and PW the first time but after that is stored for future use. The same is true with Onedrive. If you login to Windows with your MS account some setting are stored with your account and wallpaper (background) is one of them. This is the same with Chrome if you login using your Gmail account your favorite will display in the Chrome browser.

I used a copy of windows 7 professional to wipe the system because I was giving it away. I have the operating system up but can not access the network card to access the internet. I've downloaded the drivers on the software page but get the message that the file is not compatible with the system. I see the recovery disk I can order, but was hoping to find an image of the recovery disk that I can download and burn to a disk myself. Overnight ordering still has a statement about it taking 2 days to process first. Is there another area online that I can get the recovery disk downloaded? Serial number: 3CR2160C7B Thanks in advance.

Hello,

I'm having a strange problem. Intel released new drivers to update from version 15.11 to 16.11. I downloaded them from Intel website, ran install, success. When I go into Device Manager to check on the driver version, I see it is still 15.11. I have tried a number of things, including deleting the drivers from the Device Manager and running the install again. However, in this case Windows 8 automatically installs even older drivers, version 14, dated 2011. I'd like to try the new drivers because it takes very long for the net to comeback after I wake up my laptop. Version 15.11 was installed by Windows Update, those drivers are dated January 2014.

Hello, Wireless functionality was lost on my HP Pavillion dv7t-6c00 laptop when I upgraded to Windows 10. Here's what I have in my laptop now: Manufacturer: Intel CorporationDescription: Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless-N 1030Driver version: 15.11.0.8 I've read some support threads on this topic and it seems that this wireless card is not supported by Intel in Windows 10. I've also read that one suggestion is to replace the wireless card with an Intel Advanced-N 6230 wireless card. I tried to replace the wireless card prior to upgrading to Windows 10 with an Intel Advanced-N 6230 wireless card but the wireless card I purchased seemed incompatible with the laptop, as it gave me a Halted screen when I started up the laptop.  So my frustration is I would gladly and easily replace the wireless card but I can't keep purchasing cards that are incompatible with the laptop. What are my options?  Is there a specific/guarenteed HP Laptop compatible part number that I can purchase?   Even better, is there a link to where I can purchase a card that will definitely work? Thank you ver much,Chris

This card supports 802.11n. Obviously... it's right in the name, plus device manager>network adapters>Intel Centrino>Advanced tab clearly shows n enabled.

But can anyone take a second to tell me, if you know, why when I run the command netsh wlan show drivers, "radio types supported" shows only b and g, and NOT 802.11n ??? Confusing to me.

A:Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1030, CMD prompt question

that is odd but if your connected using N and your drivers are up to date i wouldn't worry about it.

I have a relatively new (few months) laptop of my own running Win7 x64 with an "Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1030" wireless network adapter. For some reason, I have serious problems connecting to most wireless networks. On my home network there are rarely problems, but when I attempt to any other network (college, or public hotspot, or neighbor's open wireless) there are often issues.

By "issues" I mean: when I first attempt to connect to the network in question, I'm usually able to connect to the first few sites I try to access, but usually after a second or a minute or a few minutes of normal connectivity, I'm suddenly unable to access anything. The browser's response is that DNS lookup has failed; when I record an IP address (via ping-command prompt) and type it in manually after this point, the browser's response is that "##.##..." is taking too long to respond, etc..." No other program is able to connect either. I have tried setting different DNS servers but it has had no visible effect. At this point, the only thing I can do to reconnect is to either wait a long time for the connection to reestablish itself (which can take an hour or more and isn't guaranteed) or to go to Device Manager and disable and reenable the wireless adapter, which then *sometimes* allows me to reconnect for a few seconds or a minute or an hour before connectivity breaks again. When the connection fails, Windows displays the computer ... Read more

A:Unreliable connectivity - Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1030

I had the same issue too. My GF's laptop has a 1030 wireless NIC and it had all sorts of issues connecting to the APs in my house. It would work fine with her Linksys wireless router and my Sprint MiFi. But had connectivity/performance problems when connecting to either of my Netgear APs (WG102 and WNDAP350) along with my PC W 620 wireless controller with AP 105 and AP 125 access points. Updating the drivers helped the problem somewhat, but we were still experiencing dropped packets or extremely high latency when connected. Upon a suggestion from one of my coworkers, I tried adjusting the performance/power settings in Windows and that seemed to have fixed the problem. The laptop has been running fine ever since.

Hello,

I sent my computer in for repairs a while back and now the wireless card won't work. It can't find any signals unless I plug in the one from my desktop. I went to computer/properties/device manager and saw that the wireless card (Intel (R) Centrino (R) Wireless-N 1030) has a yellow "!" next to it. The properties tab says, "Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)".

I have tried searching for new drivers automatically but it says they are up to date. I downloaded the latest drivers directly from Intel and tried to manually update them but it said that the drivers are up to date again. This problem occurs whenever I update my computer. I did a system restore and it worked fine for about a month, but once it updated it did the same thing again. There is no restore point to go to this time, so I'm stuck.

Anyone know what I should do?

Thanks

Hi everyone using this forum,

I want to create a slim down version of Windows XP Pro SP3 to install on a small tower computer.

So, in reference to that I have 3 questions:

1. Are there any programs like Nlite and WinFuture xp-iso-builder that are legal to use and have
   been authorised by Microsoft?

but if your answer is "no" then:

2. What programs are legal to use and are authorised by Microsoft?

then again if your answer is "no" then:

3. Has Microsoft 'created', or provided, a program to create a slim down version of Windows XP?

Also, I have two related questions:

1. Would it be legal to create a Windows XP custom setup disc
    for my OWN use ONLY?

2. Can you still obtain an original copy of Windows XP together
    with the licence?

There is a reason why I want to acheive this but I DO NOT want to explain why at this present time!

Also, to anyone, please provide me with full answers and I do thank anyone who does respond.

Lastly, thank you for your patience in this matter and I do look forward to receiving your reply soon in the near future.

On my laptop and old windows install I had a dropbox icon on the desktop like picture 1 that showed a green checkmark and blue circlewith activity. Like in this picture Dropbox | myBalsamiq.

On my current new install I cannot figure out how to get that icon back on the desktop. All I can get is the shortcut icon in the 3rd picture but that white arrow is only a shortcut indicator and does not show activity. I also cannot just drag files to the white shortcut icon like I could with the status icon as shown in the first picture. Does anyone know how I could get the shortcut icon in the 3rd picture to become a status icon like in the 1st picture? I can click up in the taskbar and the activity icon is in there but I cannot drag the activity icon from there to the desktop.

I saw some people having trouble with extremely slow wireless connections using an Intel Centrino Wireless n-1030 card. The original thread is closed, so the problem may already be solved, but if anyone is still experiencing this problem, here is what worked for me:

This NIC is a dual band card (802.11 + bluetooth), and with some routers having the bluetooth enabled really slowed down the 802.11n connection (it didn't seem to happen with my netgear router, but when I switched to linksys, WHAMMO!).

Anyway, when I disabled the Bluetooth adapter in Device Manager the problem was completely solved (uhhhh except I need to use a dongle to make my bluetooth mouse work now... small price to pay IMO)

Anyway, just thought I'd share my experience. Hope it can help someone.

What is the difference between an OEM and a MS box version. From my understanding the OEM download (about $100 or less.teacher discount) can not be moved to another computer even if it fails ,as a full new box can(in theory). I am planning to reinstall xp pro image to new h/d and then install MS7(not sure if both will be on same disk or just get 2 new h/d). Is using MS multi boot better than Easy bcd boot or another third party boot.

HI,
I have a Dell GX280 Optiplex slimline and I am in the process of a re-install of XP as I had some faults with it.
I have the official Dell re-install disc but I did not find this until I put an official Windows disc into the drive. The set up has got to the point where it is asking for the COA license number on the side of the pc but it will not accept this as it is already assigned to the pc via the Dell disc. I took the disc out and put the Dell disc in and restarted but it still gets to the same point and asks for the license number.
What I really need to do is halt the installation, re-format the drive and put the Dell disc in it as I know that this will work. I am not doing anything illegal here.
Thanks for any help.

We just installed Win XP Pro. The first time it booted up it was fine. The second time it booted up it only set up part of the desktop, and then it just stops The trash bin and the dock are missing. I can however get to the system configuration utility and the task manager via the keyboard, if that helps diagnose the problem.

The second time that it booted up an error message said that a registry file was bad BUT that it was recovered successfully. No file name was given. I don't know if it's a coincidence but I'm guessing that is the problem with our desktop not working now.

How should we attempt to fix this. We looked into repairing windows but it wanted us to enter in DOS like commands - of which we don't understand any. Is there any other way, or program, that we can repair this with? Thanks!

Just bought a Samsung 256Gb ssd to replace my 1TB boot drive and looking at options. (I do have Acronis 2011 suite and the new Samsung magician transfer software)
Preferred option is to use a 2011 Windows 7 ultimate image of the 1TB, but it's single partition is larger than the SSD and it was set as IDE in bios/registry...when imaged.
Reading thru the forum and web comments it looks like one could restore the image to a Hdd (do I need a 1TB drive for that?), then change that to AHCI via registry and Bios, then transfer using Acronis or possibly the Samsung Magician software to the SSD, but people imply the W7 image of a large partition cannot be imaged on a smaller drive.

Fresh install would be very time consuming due to some program settings. The current install of Win 7 could be used but it has become somewhat bloated. Motherboard is Sata 2.

Is there any direct or more simple way to use this older Win 7 image to the SSD? Are there any smarter options for migration?

Thx

You don't want the all of the information from the HDD on your SSD. Leave the Text Docs, Pictures, etc on the HDD. Put your Windows and all programs on the SSD. Your image is from 2011. I am sure a lot has changed on the HDD since then. You can install Windows in about 45 minutes. Then put your programs on the SSD. You don't have to do it all in one day. It won't take that long. Do yourself a favor and do it right.

I had to disable the secure boot function in the BIOS which helped to pass the EFI error message. What now? I have tried tu unplugg the USB devices, I coudnt fing any floppy settings in the BIOS to deactivate. Please help, it would be such a blessing for her to have WIN 7 She really loves it. Cheers Folks,Grandioso

A:install win 7 hp 20 desktop computer

Grandioso Sorry for the bad news, but it might not be a good idea to try to force an install of Win7 on this laptop. Why? Because laptops have specialized hardware and for all of that to work properly, this laptop needs drivers that only HP can supply, and it might be that HP does not have Win7 drivers for this PC.  IF that happens, she will be stuck with a PC in which some functions simply will not work -- due to the lack of HP drivers. Without the detailed product number, I can not confirm whether or not HP has Win10 drivers for your PC, so please follow the directions in this link to find the detailed product number of your PC: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03754824?jumpid=reg_r1002_usen_c-001_title_r0001If that is not possible, then look for a sticker on the PC that includes the product number and post that here.  If the battery is removable, the sticker is likely to be in the battery compartment. We can proceed once you provide the information. Thanks
