Outlook Hotmail Connector 2010 not working after upgrade

Q: Outlook Hotmail Connector 2010 not working after upgrade

I have the outlook Hotmail connector installed on my work machine (On outlook 2010), and I also have outlook 2016 (which connects to natively) on my home machine.

Both have stopped playing nice with in different ways::

outlook 2010 simply wont connect with at all -
Outlook 2016 shows my email and calendar from but will no longer show my wife's shared calendar.

Both of these installations were working perfectly with no issues prior to the recent upgrade.
Has anyone else experiences issues like this?

I have Windows 7 installed

I have several hotmail accounts and have been succesfully downloading emails from these accounts in Outlook 2007.
Recently I installed Office 2010.

Installed outlook connector 32 bits and verified that is installed.

When I go to outlook 2010

- I do not see "outlook connector" displayed on tool bar or anywhere else. Where can I see in outlook 2010

- send/receive tries to download hotmail files but I ger error message..

Task '[email protected]' reported error (0x80004005) : 'There is an error synchronizing your mail account. Please verify your account is configured correctly by first accessing your mail on the web. Error: 4350.

I did access emails directly from hotmail without any problem. Also I did the same with outlook 2007.

Any suggestions?

Well I got the message to upgrade to the new outlook connector for Outlook 2010
So I clicked install. Outlook never re-started and when I tried to open the program, it crashed and gave me a messaged that some mso *.dll was not installed and outlook would not load, I re-started and the same problem. I did sys restore and now outlook works again but is asking me to do the upgrade to get my Hot mail.
I checked my e-mail on the web and also got a message there, to choose weather or not to let my PC program (ie. Outlook 2010 to control Hot mail account.
Also my cloud does not look the same in my system tray looks like to white clouds instead of the blue.

I down loaded the 2010 32bit new outlook connector but have not installed it yet. I am thinking I may have to un-install the old hot mail outlook connector before I install the new one. Not sure though.
Any thoughts tech guy??

Hi Guys, I am having a problem with Hotmail connector. First the data: Windows 7 64bit - Office 2010 32bit, both are up to date, including last social connector update. Linkedin connector works flawlessly but when in the people pane I try to connect to my main hotmail account (the one I use for chat) I get the following error:
"Invalid user name or password"
I guess user name is my hotmail e-mail address and password must be the same as the hotmail password. @least for the linkedin connector it is that way.
I have 12 mail accounts in my outook setup, incluiding 2 hotmail accounts. I am using pop to download all accounts, including the hotmails.

Please any Ideas ????????

A:Outlook 2010 Hotmail Social Connector: Invalid user name or password

If you have two hotmail accounts it would seem that the outlook hotmail connector is linked to just one of the hotmail accounts you have set up on outlook. Might be wrong about this but seems logical. I use the connector to get my hotmail to outlook with pop3. However I only have "one" hotmail account associated with outlook. Maybe you could delete one of the hotmail accounts from your outlook and see what happens.

I've just started using Outlook 2010 instead of WLM 2010, because it is getting too slow and really bugging me.

I'm able to send/receive mail from a web account (from a website I administrate), my Gmail and ONE windows live account, but my main email (the second windows live account) just wont process.

Attached a screenshot of what happens.

Like I said, it's weird this is happening to just one of my Hotmail accounts, but it's so annoying to have to use two email clients, or one client and one browser.

This seems to be a very unreliable thing Outlook Connector does, but is there any way to fix it? I've tried repairing/re-installing Connector, repaired Office, re-added the account, and deleting the OST files. still no luck.

I'm on Win 7 Home Premium SP1 Running Office 2010 Pro.

Are you using the 32-bit version of of Office or the 64-bit version?

Assuming you are using the 32-bit version of Office you also need to use the 32-bit version of Outlook Connector and vice versa.

I am running Windows XP Professional 2002 and Microsoft Office 2003 (Outlook 2003)

I was using the older version of Outlook Connector to access my Hotmail account, but recently it said that I needed to upgrade it. The automatic upgrade did not work properly, so I manually removed/un-installed the old Outlook Connector, removed the hotmail account within Outlook, and I also removed a bunch of hotmail.ost files hanging around that seemed to have no data in them (in C:\Documents and Settings\Default\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook) - I believe they were formed when I was going through all the problems with the supposedly automatic upgrade).

Then I manually downloaded and installed the newest version 14.1 for 32-bit and through the Outlook connector interface within Outlook, re-added the Hotmail account. But now when I try to click on any Hotmail folder, the following error message appears:
"Unable to display the folder. Microsoft Office Outlook could not access the specified folder location."

So I feel like I am back at square one and not sure how to get the Connector to start connecting. Thanks for any advice.

Amazingly, I finally found the answer in another forum, of course only after I went to the trouble of making my earlier posting.

SETTING THE HOTMAIL ACCOUNT AS THE DEFAULT EMAIL ACCOUNT solves the accessing problem. I hope this can help some other poor souls out there!

I know some people have multiple hotmail accounts that they want to sync up with Outlook, and have no idea what to do in that case, but if you only have one account, this seems to work.

A:Outlook Connector for Hotmail

Does you mail account settings on the web allow for you to choose what type of email server you want ie: IMAP or POP and do the setting correspond to what is in the connector program and outlook? There should also be some type of instructions I would think on the hotmail account on how to set it up or on the connector program.

Hmm I'm looking at hotmail right now and it doesn't seem to have any of the above and it's only POP.

I'm trying to help someone at a remote location about 100 miles from here, by phone. He has MSOffice 2010 installed from an off-the-shelf retail CD on a fresh, clean setup of Windows 7 and wants to use Hotmail with his Outlook 2010. He says he's getting the following message:

"Microsoft Outlook Hotmail connector 64-bit Setup Wizard ended prematurely"

He says there are no code numbers or any other details that help identify a cause or solution.

Everything I've found deal with a Click-to-Run version downloaded from the MS web site and suggests to uninstall that and an MSI-based version to replace it; but, this is an off-the-shelf retail CD.

After several months of beta testing, Microsoft Outlook Hotmail Connector 14.0 has officially been released as a replacement for Outlook Connector 12. Outlook Hotmail Connector 14.0 is compatible with Outlook 2003, 2007, and 2010.
Why use the Outlook Hotmail Connector?

If you have been using Outlook Connector 12.1, you already know that it enables you to manage your Windows Live Hotmail e-mail messages, calendar, and contacts from within Outlook.

Outlook Hotmail Connector 14.0 introduces several improvements. For example, you might notice after upgrading that the connection to Hotmail is more reliable than before, and issues such as blank messages being synchronized to Outlook have been fixed.
Even better with Outlook 2010

With Outlook Hotmail Connector 14.0 and Outlook 2010, you see these additional benefits:Junk filter settings. Your safe sender, blocked sender, and safe recipient lists are synchronized between Outlook and Hotmail.
Integrated Send/Receive. Send/receive works just as it does for your other Outlook accounts.
Integrated connection status. The Hotmail account status appears in the Outlook status bar.
Rule support for secondary accounts. Rules can be applied to the Hotmail account in Outlook, even if that is not your Outlook primary account.
Synchronize your drafts. The Outlook Drafts folder synchronizes with the Hotmail Drafts folder.

How do MS Office Outlook Hotmail Connector updates (and notifications) work?

When i opened Outlook 2010 on my primary PC a day or two ago a message popped up saying i needed a new version.
I accepted and updated the version - no problems.
From what i found a new version was recently released.

Today I started Outlook 2010 on my Test/Backup PC to update this, and I don't get the "New Version popup".

It seems the Hotmail connector does not get updated with "normal" Windows updates.
I do have MS updates set to notify me of updates, but i choose when to download and install.
All options are checked for recommended, optional, etc.

It looks like Outlook may or may not notify about an update needed.
Secunia PSI (v2) doesn't list the Hotmail connector, so no help there.

I'm guessing i can download the latest version and install it.
I'd really like a reliable way to know when a new version is available and get a notification.

Here's the info for my latest version...

A:MS Office Outlook Hotmail Connector updates

I found an MS post and the new version available popup in Outlook is the way this update is handled.

On my Test box i don't have an automatic send/receive.
A send/receive is needed to get the New Version message.
I did a manual send/receive and got the New Version message.

Hi - I'm hoping someone can help. Since upgrading to Windows 8 (from 7) a week ago my Outlook 2010 email has been faulty. It keeps stopping emails coming in or out and I have to (daily) run a 'repair' to get it to work. I contacted my ISP (Virgin) and they said that Outlook doesn't work with Windows 8 and said I should use Live. However, I then added my accounts to Live but it wouldn't accept all of them, and I found the interface very hard to use. Outlook contains all my business folders and email records for my business so I need it to work. It seems to accept my IMAP email account but not the main accounts with my ISP.

My HP desktop machine is less than a year old and has plenty of memory. But also, in general the machine is slower and won't restart (I have to force shut down).

Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I'm tearing my hair out!

A:Outlook 2010 not working properly since upgrade to Windows

Use windows live essentials 2012 and the mail client there. It is almost identical to outlook and optimized for windows 8. I have office 2010 and use excel, word, and PowerPoint, but as for an email client I found that live essentials runs faster, smoother, and you can do pretty much everything you can do on outlook.

Do not use the mail app tile that came with windows. It blows.

I removed Outlook Hotmail Connector because I considered it bloatware. I don't use Hotmail. I use a hybrid system involving Outlook for my computer and Gmail for my Andriod phone and that is working fine.

After removing Connector, I kept getting a message from Outlook about installing the "upgrade" Hotmail Connector. As I was having the red x problem with graphic images not appearing in my Outlook emails, in despair I allowed it to load. The real fix came through as SP2 after I repaired Windows Update and got it working again.

So, is it bloatware? Is there a downside to removing it? Is it benign enough to just leave it alone? What would you do?

Thanks for any light you can shed on this.

I am running Outlook 2003 on Windows XP Prof. I installed Outlook Connector 12.1 and added my hotmail and MSN accounts. Both showed up in my mail folders list and both connected to the web and downloaded just fine.

When I tried to Send/Receive just my hotmail account, it was not listed in the Send/Receive group, so I checked the Email Accounts list. The hotmail account is not listed in my Email Accounts list (tools, Email Accounts, View/change), yet it is showing in the Mail Folders. I can send mail from that account if I hit reply on a received message but not if I try to select that account on a new message. I uninstalled Connector, and removed MSN from the list but I cannot remove hotmail as itís not on the list of accounts. When I try to close the folder (right click, close [email protected]) I get an error saying to use the Email Accounts list to remove it...but itís not on the list.

Any idea how to remove an email account that shows up in the Mail Folders but is not listed as an account in the Email Account list? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

In the window that comes up you should see a file named emailid_hotmail.ost. Close Outlook and delete this file.

Reopen Outlook to see if Hotmail account is gone.

I am using

Vista Ultimate - All Updates

Outlook 2007 - All Updates

and Outlook Connector - Current Download

and a Hotmail Plus email account

In the past I had no problems accessing my multiple hotmail email account in Outlook, with the help of Outlook Connector.

Now I am having lots os Issues, the biggest one is that there are Constant Errors trying to Sync my Hotmail account with Outlook.

When I use Outlook Connector, the Calender willnot sync. Also, once I have made changes to the inbox, ie deleted emails, sometimes they reapear next time I open Outlook.

I called Microsoft last night and they told me I don't need to use Outlook Connector to get my emails, just set up email as http and enter all the settings.

This seems to work ok, but when I send messages, they don't stay in my hotmail sent folder, but go right to my personal folder sent folder. I can live with this. Also the Live Calender is not visible, also not a problem, I don't use it. I use the Outlook Calender.

Problem is, that Outlook tries to install Outlook Connector the next time I open Outlook.

Also, without Outlook Connector, it will not download all the emails in the inbox automatically, unless I click on each one.

When Microsoft started the new hotmail, I guess they made it so you have to have a special download in order for it to work with Outlook. Before this, I have used Hotmail in conjunction with Outlook with no problems. When I go to the download center to get the required download, you are required to validate your copy of Outlook. I KNOW that my copy is genuine. But it keeps coming back saying "no Microsoft Office products were found on this PC". Thus, I can't get the download. I need it to use Outlook. How to I get this download to work?

Hi all,

New to this forum, so hoping that I am posting in the right place. Am running new Win7ux64 with office 2010 professional plus (32-bit version) (all legal and activated). I also have adobe 9 professional.

Started having issues with using my mouse in outlook and word and then deactivated one add on after another. I figured it was adobe 9 given that it does not support office 2010--but after a while, the mouse would stop working again though the keyboard works just fine.

Went through all the addons (exchange server, business connectivity, etc) until only the social connector left. Interestingly, when I restart the programs the mouse always works at first--but then will stop working after a few minuted whether I am or am not doing anything. Finally, I have turned off social connector and voila--no issues. I thought of all the add-ons this would be least likely to cause issues as it was written specficially for office 2010. However, it was this add on and it seems as though it would stop working when it finally updated somebody's status. The annoying part was that I liked this application.

So--here is my question. Is there anything to do or just wait for an update for social connector. Am I the only one having this issue?

A:Outlook 2010 Social Connector Mouse Issue

I found the social connector to be buggy and caused Outlook to be very slow and often unresponsive. Once I removed it, I had no issues. I like the concept, but once I installed it, it wasn't very useful at all.

However, what we actually get on Outlook 2003 is 'outbind://39-00000000C176F3FF67E6754394476777057BDCA60700071475F5FEB9AC4FABB3D7C8EE9381620000007059

Then when I was sending/receiving I got the message of "we were unable to sign in to your account please restart or repair [email protected] so I did both and it still wouldnt work. Next I researched it and heard that I had to remake my profile which still didnt work... Now it seems to be saying that my data file aint right and that it should be OST when it should be PST. I'm running Windows 7 Professional and just upgraded IE from 9 to 11. Afterwards, I observed that Outlook 2010 was not downloading pictures (instead showing red x's) and Excel 2010 embedded internet queries stopped working.
I think I've cornered the problem, but can't seem to fix. I have also observed that IE's temporary internet files (TIF) folder may be missing (Internet Options>Browsing History>Settings>Temporary Internet Files shows nothing under Current Location)
and the allotted disk space is set to zero and cannot be changed. If I input another number (no matter the number), I receive the following error message:
"Please select a value between 8 and 8 for how much disk space Temporary Internet Files may use."
I have tried renaming the following RegEdit keys, but to no avail: Cache and LowCache (both under HKEY_CURRENT_USER>Software>Microsoft>Windows>Internet Settings>5.0). They get replaced when IE11 is re-opened.

The actual values within the registry keys are as follows:
Cache>Content>CacheLimit = 8192 (Decimal)
LowCache>Content>CacheLimit = 256000 (Decimal)
This is driving me crazy. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium x64 SP1
Office: Office 2010 x86 SP1
Outlook Hotmail Connector: x86 Version 14.0.5139.5001

I believe I have the latest Hotmail Connector installed.

Despite "include messages from the deleted items folder in each data file when searching all items" being ticked in Outlook's Search Options (File --> Options --> Search), it does not include the Deleted Items folder when clicking "Try searching again in All Mail Items".

I know the e-mail is in Deleted Items. Deleted Items (i.e -Bin) is included when searching All Mail Items using my Gmail IMAP account, so I know this setting generally works.

Any idea why it's not working when searching from my Hotmail account? Thanks

If I click on the root folder above Inbox, search and include "subfolders" deleted items is included.

p.s - In case anyone asks why I would do this, some times I delete e-mails I wish to retrieve and currently I need to search "All Mail items" and then "Deleted Items" separately.

For me when my additional emails get dorked up, for what ever reason. I simply remove that email account, close out my email client, open my email client backup and then re-add it. Then all works as it should.

Is there a way to have Outlook 2010 sync it's To-Do bar with a Windows Live webmail calendar?

I'm using Outlook 2010+latest version of Outlook Connector +Windows Live webmail. Calendar sync works fine in both directions but the Outlook To-Do bar only displays upcoming events from the local "Outlook" calendar, not my calendar (even though in the Outlook calendar pane the local calendar is unchecked and the calendar is checked).

A:Outlook 2010: sync To-Do bar with Windows Live/Hotmail calendar?

You can definitely do that, here's how:

1. Click on the File tab.
2. On the Info screen (should be the default one that appears after clicking "File") click the "Account Settings" drop-down button.
3. Then click on "Account Settings" to go to the Account Settings screen.
4. Once at the Account Settings dialog box, click the "Data Files" tab.
5. Select your default e-mail account that you wish to sync your calendar with. (This would be your @LIVE account.)
6. All set! Enjoy your new To-Do bar with updated @Live calendar information.

This will also change a couple other beneficial settings, such as auto-recognizing contacts that are on your LIVE e-mail account.

From Microsoft Outlook:

"The default Outlook Data File contains the calendar that appears in the To-Do Bar and settings for Favorites, shared folders, and RSS feeds."

Hope that works!

I recently loaded a pop3 Hotmail account to my Outlook 2010 since I was having problems with the MAPI Hotmail sending multiple copies of emails with large attachments. I am hoping the pop3 version will eliminate this problem; however, I can't seem to get the pop3 account to find my contacts and Contacts folder does not appear in the folder list. This is stressing my pea sized brain and I sure could use some help.

I recently purchased a new computer that has Office 2010 installed. I would like to move the contents of my .pts file from my old computer which has Outlook 2007 to my new computer which has Outlook 2010. Before, when I wanted to transfer my .pts file from one computer to another I would just copy the file to a portable hard drive and then transfer the file to the other computer. However, Outlook 2010 is completely different animal. When I go to C:, Users, App Data, etc., new computer, it is completely different from my other computer that had Vista. My question is, how can I transfer my .pts file and/or my address book, calendar, contacts, etc. for my older Windows Vista computer that had Outlook 2007, to my new computer that has Windows 7 and Outlook 2010 installed? Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions.

A:Solved: Moving Outlook Messages and Address Book From Outlook 2007 to Outlook 2010

Hello referee07;

Copy your .pst file from your old computer to the new one or your portable hard drive.

To launch the Outlook 2010 Export/Import wizard, first go to File menu, navigate to Open, and click Import.

In the Import And Export wizard, select Import from another program or file option and hit Next

Under File Type, select Outlook Data File(.pst) and hit Next

Now choose the file to import, select the options, and hit Next

Once done, finally select the folder to import from(if you want to import complete data don’t change any settings) and make sure Include subfolders is checked. You can either import the file to the current folder or choose the folder.

Hope this helps!

Firstly I made my first ever post on Tech Support Guy earlier today, but it appears to have gone missing, so here it is again. If there are 2 posts from me then I am sorry.

I have 2 PCs, a desktop and a laptop, and Outlook Connector to Hotmail is not working correctly from the desktop only. This appears to have started since I replaced Outlook 2003 with Outlook 2007 on both machines, but I am not 100% sure that it is 2007 that is causing the problem.

The Problem: On my desktop, when I launch Outlook it correctly downloads new e-mails from my Hotmail account using Outlook Connector. When I look at the Detailed Report under Server Status I get a successful message:

Mail: Last successfully refreshed at 12:14.
Calendar: Last successfully refreshed at 12:14.
Contacts: Last successfully refreshed at 12:14.

However when I create and send a new e-mail or read e-mail or move an e-mail to a folder I get an error on the Detailed Report as follows:

Time: 27/03/2010 12:19:44
Error in Mail
Error with Send/Receive.
Look for a log in the Sync Issues folder.

And the new e-mail/ change of status does not get passed through to hotmail. It is as if there is a one-way street between hotmail and my Outlook

When I look at the log in the Sync Issues folder it gives me no help on how to resolve the issue. Interestingly when I create a new e-mail it appears to send it, even though it does not appear in the sent folder in Hotmail.

Then when I re-start the PC it (generally or always, I am... Read more

I installed Outlook Connector (V12.1) on Outlook 2003 on my home computer (Windows 7 Home Premium). After the installation, I opened the Outlook, Outlook starts, my Windows Live Hotmail account appeared in addition to my main e-mail account ( However, my mail account failed to work and the hotmail account does not work at all. When I clicked on Tools/ email accounts, I got the following error message.

"The operation failed due to an installation or registry problem. Restart outlook and try again. If the problem persists, please reinstall. Could not complete the operation, one or more parameter values are not valid."

So, I un-installed the Outlook Connector first then un-installed Outlook 2003, and reinstalled Outlook 2003 alone. Outlook starts, the connector folders for my hotmail accounts together with my main account are still there, no mail downloads and I still get the same error message. My outlook 2003 can't even sent any e-mail.

Hi folks,

I was installing the latest version of windows live messenger the other day and it invited me to add outlook connector which I did.

As soon as I installed it, outlook stopped downloading mail from my main accounts, althought the hotmail accounts seemed to work fine. When I clicked on Tools/ email accounts, I got the error message

The operation failed due to an installation or registry problem. Restart outlook and try again. If the problem persists, please reinstall. Could not complete the operation, one or more parameter values are not valid."

So I did as I was asked, uninstalled and then reinstalled- made no difference- and since have un and reinstalled serveral times, getting more draconian at each attempt, deleting all obvious registry entries and using CC Cleaner to remove all vestages as well as the office 2003 resource pack cleaner.

I still have the same problem, outlook starts, the connector folders for my hotmail accounts are there, no mail downloads and I still get the same error message.

I've seen the same issue noted on other forums, but I can't seem to find a posted solution. Can anyone help- it's driving me nuts!!!

Hi walterono and welcome to Tenforums.

You could try repairing your installation of Office.
Right-click on the Start Button and select Control Panel; select Programs and Features; wait for the list of installed programs to populate; highlight your Microsoft Office installation and click CHANGE above the box, then Repair.

After a hard disk crash I upgraded to outlook 2010 prof plus. (from 2007). I used the original pst-file from crashed computer (Vista home and Outlook 2007) and moved it to a clean install of Win7 and outlook.

No old sent items show up, all new sent items stores perfectly in folder sent items.

I use POP and outlook connector for Hotmail. I have used the repair tool on the .pst file, errors were repaired.

I have started with cleanviews.

I used "use existing pst.file" when setting up outlook 2010 for the first time.

I have tried tips from different forums, like filter and different view settings

Archive is holding older emails only.

Is there maybe a way to see inside the PST if sent items are there?

Can anyone please direct me to my sent items?

Hi, I have created an Outlook email signature image with two hyperlinks in it. I added an image map to the htm file to make this possible, and the signature and links display and work fine in Outlook, Windows Live Mail and when I check my hotmail account on my iPhone. However, on my PC, hotmail and gmail treat the signature differently; my old signature was an image with just one hyperlink, but this hyperlink appeared to be removed by hotmail and gmail - now, with the image map I have added, the hyperlinks exist in hotmail and gmail, but they seem to be displacing the image, pushing it it the right or downwards. Is there a way to allow hotmail and gmail to display the signature properly, so that the hyperlinks lay on top of the image?

Each hyperlink is 310x183px, signature is 621x183px

I have Windows 8 and Outlook 2010, in which I have 3 e-mail accounts, all with the same ISP, all are pop3. The first account works fine. However, the other 2 wont download the messages from the server. I know there are messages there, because I can log in and see them on mi ISP webmail option. I can send e-mails from all the accounts correctly, however, the other 2 wont download them from the server.

I have another computer in which is running Windows 7 and all three accounts work just fine. I have checked the settings, all are fine. I have even contacted my ISP and had them check the settings. They too concluded that it appears to be a Windows 8 issue.
In an attempt to resolve, I have uninstalled and reinstalled Office and Outlook 2010, however it doesn't resolve the issue.

Hello Everyone,

In Outlook, I just started maybe within the past month or two using the search very heavily. At first, it worked without error, but then all of a sudden it stopped. I don't know what happened. Now, when I search nothing comes up.

I did a Google search and tried to rebuild the index, the inbox repair tool, Office 2010 Home & Business Repair and restart of the computer. Still the search is not working.

Should I uninstall and re install outlook? Should I start a brand new .pst file? Any other methods.

Thank you all for your help.

A:Outlook 2010 search not working

Here is an update. Since, the options I discovered from doing my research didn't work. I decided to start from scratch. I started a brand new .pst file, deleted my mail profile and started a new one. I also use iCloud for my iPhone and I signed out and removed. I then imported all my content from the old .pst file and just re setup my email accounts again. Then re installed iCloud.

The Good news is, it fixed the problem and my search works flawless. Here is the bad news, the search doesn't work at all for iCloud. Both options under Search Tools: Locations to Search, Outlook and iCloud are both selected, but with still no luck. Since I don't use iCloud for email that is why it is working for email, but I do use iCloud for Calendar, Contacts and mixed tasks.

Is there a way to fix this so I can search Contacts etc. for iCloud?

Thank you for any answers.

I mainly use Outlook 2000, however, in order to get a number of Hotmail messages onto my computer's HD, i synchronised Outlook Express with Hotmail. I now have messages from a folder I have on Hotmail on my hard drive too.

A search revealed that this folder (and presumably all messages in it) is stored under C:\Windows\Application Data\Identities\{00B31680-0793-11D3-A398-C0610D677E39}\Microsoft\Outlook Express.

I copied the .dbx file named hotmail - [folder name].dbx to my desktop. I went in to Outlook 2000 file>import blah blah blah, but it wont let me import .dbx files there anyway to get my messages from hotmail from this specific folder into outlook 2000? i no longer need the folder in hotmail and will just delete it as soon as i have a permanent copy on my hard drive in outlook 2000. im assuming that since the dbx file is on my hard disk with all the messages (which i can read offline in outlook express) that i wont need to set up outlook 2000 for hotmail synchronisation ?!?

I'm a Hotmail Plus (is that the right term?) user so I'm paying for expanded service. It's been fine for nearly a year now, but recently, my connection has been shaky - sometimes connecting, sometimes not.

Now, I can't connect at all and I get the following errors:

Task 'Hotmail: Folder:Inbox Synchronizing headers.' reported error (0x800CCC0D) : 'The server could not be found.'

Task 'Hotmail: Folder:Inbox Synchronizing headers.' reported error (0x800CCC19) : 'A timeout occurred while communicating with the server.'

I did some trial and error work and realized that the problem is with the URL I'm using:

This address must be incorrect because when I put in "" instead, it allowed me to get through but only once. That means that the issue is not with my Outlook.

Is there another address and is anyone else having issues with the above address?

What else could be wrong?

Good Day

Now I set up sound alerts and a desktop notifications for all mails but it does not work for the second account - When a new message comes in in inbox, I do not get any alerts.

I did some research and apparently Outlook only supports alerts/notifications for the primary account. I tried making the supportdesk the default./primary account but I still do not get alerts for it.

How can I get alerts for the 2nd exchange account(shared mail account)?

Is there a way I can set up this 2nd exchange account(supportdesk) in live mail online?

The instant search function on my outlook 2010 has stopped working.
I have previously had and then repaired this issue after the initial install of office 2010.
To solve the issue before I did the following.
Search tools > Search options > Indexing options > Modify
Deselect all selected options
Delete and rebuild index (advanced options) and restart machine
Reselect the folders to be indexed.

I have tried to repeat this process but I am unable to delete the MS outlook location
I cannot see the documents and settings folder in the C drive and therefore cannot navigate to User name / appdata / local / microsoft / outlook

I have tried changing the view setting in folder options (to show hidden files)
and I have tried opening outlook as an administrator

I cannot see how to to delete this indexed location

As I keep my PST file on a different partition this means that the search functionality has for the time being stopped completely.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

I've been using Contact Groups on previous computer, but when I moved over to my new PC and loaded Office 2010 along with Outlook, the contacts groups in OUtlook does not seem to work.

None of the groups I had before were imported, although I have imported all of the contacts themselves.

When I create a new Contact Group it seems to be fine - it allows me to create it, add some contacts, and save it. But, I go to create an email and want to use the contact group, nothing will come up as a group. Also, when I look directly into contacts folder there are no groups there.

What to do?

Guys, it's like this:
Was using Office 2007 on Windows 7 x64. Did a complete uninstall, cleaned up registry, removed ALL add ins. Rebooted, everything working OK.
Did a clean Office 2010 (technet rtm) 64bit full install. Imported from backup my pst file and rules, contacts, etc.

Outllook works fine except preview handlers. I can preview pdf (using acrobat 9 handler), jpg, txt, but I CAN NOT PREVIEW OFFICE FILES, AKA EXCEL WORD OR POWERPOINT

The preview handlers are installed, I downloaded Stephen Toub's Preview Handler Association Editor, the handlers for office files ARE present, but I get a message in preview pane saying "This file cannot be previewed because there is no previewer installed for it!
Please any ideas someone ????

I work for a company that uses an exchange server for the emails. When they switched to this new email system, i had to upgrade to Outlook 2010. I receive emails in 3 different exchange inboxes (Fredd, AP, and Billing) which had to be set up in my Outlook. For ease of use, i created a separate personal inbox and created rules that automatically copy all emails coming into the 3 exchange inboxes into this one personal inbox. The problem is that, every once in a while, emails don't get copied over from the Billing exchange inbox. It happens about once a week or so for a 2-3 hour block. This seems to be happening most often on Sundays (although it may happen other times i'm not aware of). I don't even realize i didn't see the emails until someone notifies me that i didn't respond. Then, i look at the Billing inbox and the email is there.
Is there something that just causes Outlook rules to not work sometimes? Can this be fixed? I am running a Windows 7 64-bit PC.

A:Outlook 2010 rule not working occasionally

First thing I would do is to look at the rules and compare the rules to the message and see if the messages contain something that the rule doesn't have in it.

I am running Microsoft Outlook 2010 on my laptop which is a Windows 7 OS. The PC came with a trial version and after some issues, the full version was installed and is activated.
Quick parts is a very nice part of Outlook and I use it frequently but on this PC it will not retain the blocks of text. I did some searching and found a few answers, one being to find a specific file, which I sort of did, it wasn't named the exact thing they said it was, renamed it as an old version, rebooted so the program would make a NEW file. It did just that but had the same problem of not retaining text after restart. I apologize for not remembering the name of the file.
I see all kinds of problems concerning this on line but few solutions. I searched here but I guess, I didn't search right because nothing was found.
Any ideas or input is appreciated.
Thank you.

Cannot connect to hotmail ( via Outlook 2007 since Saturday 1st Feb. Message says server not connected. (Normally uses Outlook Connector to connect). Hotmail/ accounts are setup as MAPI.

All other non-hotmail/ accounts in Outlook 2007 working OK.

Hotmail/ accounts are accessible via a webserver, and even accessible via Outlook 2007 if setup as POP3/IMAP.

I have many subfolders in the Hotmail/ accounts that are automatically syncronised when connected, and can be accessed when offline, but are also accessible when accessing Hotmail/ via the web from another PC. But when setup as POP3/IMAP accounts only the Inbox folder is synchronsed with Outlook 2007.

Can anyone help as to why Outlook 2007 is not connecting to the Hotmail/ accounts anymore via the Outlook Connector? Alternatively, can all the other folders synchronise automatically if I set the Hotmail/ accounts as POP3/IMAP?

Thanks. Any help appreciated.

Tried doing a search and noticed that the instant search in Oulook 2010 has stoped working. Tried this fix below, however it did not work. The rebuild finished in less then half an hour, which is unusual because I ran this on my computer and it took most of the day. Questioning if the computer experincing the issue has cache mode turned on or if their mailbox size is too big. The size of the mailbox is more than 10GB. The email account is an MS Exchange account, so I wonder if it could be an issue on the server.
1. In Control Panel go to Programs and Features.
2. On the left pane click on Turn the Windows features ON or OFF
3. Look for Windows Search and remove the check mark . Windows will make some changes (configures features) and then ask for a reboot
4. After restart open Outlook . You will notice that Windows will reconfigure Office. Try some search terms in Outlook. It will complain that Search function is not working, which is correct because it was just deleted
5. In Control Panel go to Programs (note that you cannot search Control Panel for Programs and Features !) and click on Turn Windows Features on or off
6. Turn ON (select) Windows Search, wait for Windows to put Search function back on and then reboot . Wait for Windows to ... Read more

Doublecheck to make cached mode is turned on. if that doesn't correct it, scroll down to the section on making sure indexing options are configured properly:
The size of the mailbox will make searching more difficult, but it shouldn't disable it. However, mailboxes that large will run into problems of file corruption. You may want to move what's not absolutely necessary into a pst file, or turn on archiving and move older emails into the archive.

I have tried the reset panes and clear view switches from the command line but no success.

I purchased a brand new computer with Windows 8 and Office 2010. Everything set up in a cinch and has been working like a charm... that is, until two days ago. When I launched Outlook, it seemed to take all day to receive my mail messages. Sending mail works fine, but the program never seems to receive my mail. Wednesday there were 11 messages for a total of 1.21 MB that never completed the receiving process. So I went to my webmail server and logged in - all 11 messages were there, and I could open, reply, forward, etc. just fine. I didn't change anything on my computer, I didn't have any technical issues prior to this problem. It's like it just woke up Wednesday morning and decided not to receive any mail.

On top of that, when I close Outlook a window pops up that says "Microsoft Outlook has stopped working. Windows is checking for a solution to the problem", and it shows a green bar that moves from left to right but just hangs out there all day. As I type this, it has been searching for a solution for over an hour.

The email account is a POP3 account.

Anybody got an idea what's happening here? I've searched the internet and Microsoft's website for a solution, but nothing works.

We are running Exchange 2003 SP2 and our clients have Office 2010. Our Outlook profiles are created automatically by using Group Policy to set a registry key which points to a PRF file with all the Outlook settings. Lately, many of our users are reporting that their emails are getting stuck in the Outbox. If you look at their Outlook profile, they have two Exchange accounts listed. You cannot delete either of them; it gives a message that this is the default email account.
The immediate solution is to recreate the user's Outlook profile. This allows the stuck email to send. The real issue is that this keeps occurring. Recreating the Outlook profile sometimes fixes the problem for a long time, months maybe. But other times the problem occurs the next day. This is happening with users who have established Outlook profiles as well as new users logging into their PCs for the first time. I've attached the code from our PRF. Any help is appreciated, as we have around 400 active users and we're constantly chasing after this issue.

A:Outlook 2010 Email Stuck in Outbox; Corrupt Outlook Profile

Couple steps you may apply...
1. Repair the offline file with a Microsoft utility called SCANOST.exe. I’ve seen this file reside in a number of different locations, mainly within Program Files. It might be best to search for it with Windows or Google Desktop. SCANPST.exe will also work, though you’ll have to go digging for your outlook.ost, which should be near c:\Documents and Settings\ %profile%\ Local Settings\ Application Data\ Microsoft\ Outlook\ outlook.ost. If your file is significant in size, you’ll save a lot of time with the repair operation by not creating a backup. Because if the repair finishes successfully and Outlook still bombs, you’ll need to.
2. Shutdown Outlook completely, including any runaway outlook.exe processes in the task manager. Open Mail in the Control Panel and before you delete your profile completely, write down the server settings! There’s no need to worry about backing up your mail as it’s stored on the Exchange server. (Essentially, you’re deleting that outlook.ost when you drop your mail profile.) Now, start Outlook and it will create a new profile, where you’ll configure the server with the information you wrote down previously.
If steps above don’t work or you need to get more variants of .pst restoration, visit... - multi functional user comm... Read more

This is on my office computer for a Gmail account. Outlook 2010 on Windows 7 Professional 32 bit.

Early this week, I started having problems with instant search not providing all results. Same searches I have previously used. Before contacting our IT guy, I changed search options to include results from all folders instead of current folder. That was on Tuesday, now I don't recall if that worked for all folders or not, but I know it still didn't work on current folder instant searches. Our IT guy suggested deleting history in Google-Chrome, which I did and re-booted, no change. I then found suggestions to run "conversation cleanup" and to archive, which I did. Neither have fixed my current folder instant search issue.

No matter whether search options is set to all or current, when searching in current folder only, only items since 11/1/16 are found (when this started, none were being found). If I remember correctly, 11/1/16 was the day I cleared by history in Chrome. Could it be that conversation cleanup and/or archiving did work but that having cleared history is actually the problem? If so, can that be fixed; if not, other suggestions please?

Yesterday, my Outlook (2010) stopped retrieving e-mail from the Comcast server. When I tried to fix it today, it still wouldn't work. All the settings were correct, but it wouldn't retrieve my e-mail. I deleted the account and recreated it. Now, Outlook points to a new .pst file instead of my old Outlook.pst file, named [email protected] To make matters worse, it doesn't delete the mail off the server. Before, when I would open Outlook, it would download new message to my Inbox and delete them off the server. The new messages would stay permanently in my Outlook inbox. No more. Now if I manually delete one through my Internet browser, it also deletes it out of my Outlook Inbox. It’s as though the new account is just a window to the Comcast e-mail server. I tried changing the Root Folder Path on the Advanced tab of the e-mail account settings to point to the location of my Outlook.pst folder, but that made no difference. I also tried deleting a recent Microsoft update (KB3054976), but this did not help, either. This is a complete disaster for me, as I can't even send e-mail now, except through the server. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

A:Outlook 2010 e-mail account won't sync to Outlook.pst file

I figured this out. When I reconfigured my e-mail account in Outlook, I used IMAP settings instead of POP3. This was not how I did it before. IMAP works great if one wants to keep all e-mail out on the server and access it from various devices. That isn't what I do. I changed the profile to POP3 and the poblem was solved. Still don't know why it initially failed two nights ago, though.

During the course of my own research for this question, I have encounter mixed answers, so I now turn to you for some help.

I am trying to configure my hotmail account to work with Outlook Express... and it is not working. I have come across MANY answers on the web. Some say that MSN/Hotmail doesn't support hotmail being used with outlook anymore, while others say that theirs is configured and works fine via outlook. Some have tried to use POP3 settings with some success even though hotmail clearly runs on an HTTP server. Some say that it stoped working around 2002 only on new accounts, while others say they think they are still able to use OE because they were grandfathered in. Whatever the case may be... I cannot get my hotmail account to configure properly with Outlook or OE. Does anyone here know a way around that? Or are you aware of any programs that I could use to set it up?...for example, I found a program that is supposed to do exactly that for Yahoo! e-mail accounts called YPOP or YPOP3. Anyone know anything about that. Or, can anyone suggest another e-mail client like pegasus, eudora, mozilla, thunderbird,...or any other one that I can use with my hotmail account. Or does anyone know if any of them, or OE work with Yahoo!, GMail, or can you suggest another free one that I can use???
I don't want to "upgrade" to a pay e-mail service just to use Outlook.

Earlier this week I was having a problem with another program that I thought was being caused by something corrupt in my workstation's domain user profile. So using the machine's local admin user, I renamed my domain user profile folder to something else, deleted the registry key for that user profile, then rebooted and logged back on with my domain user name. This created a new user profile folder in C:\Users. Then I went about copying my files over, bookmarks, set up all my e-mail accounts again and imported calendar and contacts from the file in the old user profile, etc.

Well now my Outlook 2010 will not display a desktop alert when new mail arrives, and sometimes won't even make the sound for new mail. I have 3 different IMAP accounts on my Outlook, with my office e-mail being the default account. Desktop alerts have always worked fine on this machine, with Outlook 2010, with this e-mail account, before recreating my user profile. Now suddenly it doesn't want to work at all. The little mail icon shows on the far lower right, but I run dual widescreen displays and I don't always see that icon way over there. I'd rather have the desktop alert pop up near the middle (right of left screen, or left of right screen) where I'm more likely to see it.

I tried turning desktop alerts off and back on in Options. Also tried right-clicking the Outlook icon in the system tray and turning Show New Mail Desktop Alert off and back on. Nothing seems to be working. Any ideas?

A:How do I transfer emails from Outlook 2003 to Outlook 2010

Hello Richard and welcome to Seven Forums.

I'm not a fan of Outlook so I don't have a lot of experience with it. Having said that, I remembered an old Microsoft Answers forum thread about moving 2003 .pst files over to 2010. The first answer by Russ Valentine should still be valid. One suggestion if I may. Before attempting to move any emails I think it would be helpful to back them up, make a system image, do something to protect them should the unthinkable happen.

Just going through the frustrating task of switching to new Win7 machines from old XP machines.
I have several thousand important (business) e-mails on my old XP machine under Outlook Express 6. Six different accounts, each with their own inbox. Four are POP3, 2 are IMAP. The new machine has Office 2010 with Outlook, and I have set up all 6 accounts and they are sending and receiving fine.
I have read several articles on how to move (or export/import) all my old e-mails into Outlook, but they all seem to be written as if I have both Outlook Express and Outlook on both machines - not the case. Some say to install Outlook temporarily on the old machine and make the conversion there - is this really necessary? Where would I get just Outlook 2010? Download a trial version?
The articles all seem to make reference to a PST file. I have located the store files on the Outlook Express (old) machine, and they are all in a .dbx format. Additionally, there are literally dozens of these dbx files, many for old folders that I no longer have on the old machine, even some old e-mail accounts that have been closed for years..
Can someone walk me though how to move (export/import) my e-mails from my old XP machine, with Outlook Express only, onto my new machine, with Outlook 2010 only? Can I migrate individual folders, or do I have to move everything (all 6 accounts plus the sent items folder) at ... Read more

Hi I am trying to move one pst file from one laptop which has Outlook 2010 32 bit to another laptop which has Outlook 2010 64 bit installed,
steps taken

2) Pasted the file from usb into User/Documents folder.
3) Tried to open the file in Outlook and I get the error that Outlook encountered errors while opening the file.
Now how is that possible when the file is working perfectly in one laptop but when I copy and paste it into another it gets corrupted? Is it due to 32 bit to 64 bit outlook? I tried to repair it using scanpst and it brought back few mails, so what else can I do? Am I doing something wrong in moving the file.
