Is hinge problem fixed in G580?

Q: Is hinge problem fixed in G580?

I have read numerous complaints online about the Lenovo G570 laptop, apparently the hinges are prone to break a few months after use, and whatsmore the customer service teams are supposeduly refusing to acknowledge that the issue is covered under wear and tear.. I am wondering, has this problem been addressed with the release of the G580 laptop? I am no expert, but I assume that the model numbers represent incremental revisions. Does this typically mean component upgrades ie processor or also include fixes such as the hinges of the G570? Any response would be greatly appreciated as I am considering buying the G580 but need a strong quality laptop. I have heard that Lenovo are the best, my friend has one with a metal case and it seems strong, which models are known for their strength/durability? I also require a 15.6inch screen with i5, 4gb ram and 500gb hdd, preferably and usb 3.0.. Thanks,Richard.

I had the hinge repaired last year and it broke again, with a lot more damage. it's not worth it to have it repaired again, at higher cost, if it's just going to break again. I notice that this is a pervasive design flaw, from all the complaints I've seen online.  So, has it been addressed in new models? I like HP, but will definitely will buy something else if this is a continuing issue.

Hi all!I have an older G580 laptop. It came with a B950 CPU and i wanted to upgrade the CPU.I studied the Hardware Maintenance manual for the supported CPU's.On page 101 it says (amongst others):Intel SNB I3-2350M 2.3G 3M J1 PGA Processor.I found one like that cheap and i bought it.I installed it succesfully, but it does not work correctly.Although it has 4 threads, any software or test only detects 2 cores, 2 threads. It seems that hyperthreading does not work.Laptop model is G580  model name 20157BIOS is the latest i could found, version 62CN97WWOthers reported the same problem and solved it by BIOS update, but i cannot find any newer BIOS than this one. Please help me.

So I'm trying desperetly to help my friend fix his laptop, and I'm running into huge issues. My friend is running a Lenovo G580, and cannot connect to the Wi-Fi whatsoever. When you look down at the connections, it shows a wired connection symbol, and it says that there's no connections to be found. Now I know for a fact that this laptop can use wireless, it was used probably a week or two ago by my friends mother. Now, it can't seem to connect to any wireless networks. I've tried just about everything, turning off power saving, deleting the drivers (which we can't do, as the wireless drivers aren't appearing under network adapter), nothing has changed it. The laptop is running Windows 10, and when we go to Network Settings, there's no WiFi tab, there's Proxy, VPN, etc. I really need help with this.

Hi
I have a Lenovo g580 with windows 7 home premium 64 bit, whenever it goes to sleep, in whatever way, I get a black screen telling me that windows did not shutdown successfully.

I have completed a system restore to factory settings and downloaded and installed all updates. I have also run all Lenovo diagnostics to no avail.

I have changed the settings in power options, the bios has no power option.

I would appreciate any help

Many thanks

Hello.

I have a Lenovo G580 with Windows 8. I have a weird problem with audio. If the default audio is set as internal speakers and I plug in my headphones the sound just keeps coming from the internal speakers. But if I set the headphones as default, I can switch between the speakers and headphones as I want and there is no problem if only I play music from my computer.

If I try to play something from my browser, however, the sound only comes from the internal speakers and connecting the headphones does nothing. Except (and this is where it gets weird) if I play something from my computer first using the headphones. Then I can play anything from the browser and hear it through the headphones as long as I don't plug them out. If I plug them out, the sound switches back to the internal speakers and trying to plug in the headphones again doesn't do anything. So I have to play something from my computer again with the headphones plugged in and then switch to my browser to again play everything through my headphones.

What's wrong with it? Any way to make it work as it should work?

hi adarsh_savant,

I think you may have concern in this thread,
http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-3000-and-Essential/G580-Bios-update-problem/m-p/1199186/highlight...

Here the suggested solution from neokenchi that helped.

1. Boot into the BIOS by repeatedly tapping F2 on startup

2. In the BIOS, navigate to the Boot Tab and set UEFI to Disabled or Legacy then press F10 to save and exit. When
the computer reboots, check if you still get the errors and/or if you're able to boot into Windows.

3. If same problem, leave the changes that you made on Step 2 and attempt to re-install Windows via a Windows 8 recovery drive or OneKey Recovery button (note that this will wipe the computer to factory settings)

Hope this helps,
Cheers!

The right hinge broke on my ENVY m6. Now the left one is about to go. The waranty is up and I have noticed that this is a common problem with this product. I should hope that there has been a recall on this. HP should at least repair the issue free of charge (waranty or no waranty). I take great care of my things and my computer is no exception. Please give me advice on this one. I am extremely disappointed at this point.

I've had the G50-80 for not even a year and I've been noticing a lot of problems with my laptop. I use this laptop as a desktop so it stays on my desk (15 inch). Here are some problems that have been occurring: Screws keep falling outWhen I open the laptop, the case gets caught (Hinge is now loose and caused a bright blob on the screen)Track pad moves randomly and zooms in/out randomlyBattery is really weakMy main concern is regarding the hinge. Whenever I open my laptop the screen's case lifts the bottom case apart. Due to this, I contacted Lenovo but they said that the warranty did not cover exterior damages. It's really disappointing and frustrating to see my laptop go through all these problems even when I take excellent care of the laptop. What should I do? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Anyone having trouble  with the hinge problem? If you were able to solve the problem, what was the process?  For poeple that are wondering about Lenovo's attitude towards their hinge problem, here is my story: About 8 months ago, I purchased a lenovo y50 laptop touch that is under 1 year limited warranty. OnMarch 4, 2016, the laptop monitor hinge broke. After a quick searchon google using key words "y50 hinge" i found out the design is defective and it has been the casesince 2014.  I was asked to send the computer in for repair and I was told it will take more than 3 month to repair the laptop. I got in contact with my case manager, and I was offered the option for refund of $652.12 . Keep inmind that I had to follow up with my replies just to get an answer from my case manager. I requested a call backfrom her and I never got a response. After one month of sending in my laptop, I was notified that computer has been repaired and it is being shipped back to me. I checked the tracking number provided and only to find that it is being send to North Carolina ( I live in California). On March 28,2016, I called lenovo support and was told that there was a mistake in shipping address. Support told me they have already bring this to the attention of my case manager and I should receive a call within 2 or 3 business day. We have purchase our HP Envy TS 15 from Costco online about 3 years ago. The warranty has expired. About couple of months ago I saw the left hinge seperating from the casing. It makes a clicking sound when the screen is closed/opened. I am not sure if may be getting worse. But today, not sure if this is related but I realized the battery was drained and although the computer was plugged, it was not charging.  After reading numerous other posts on this hinge issue, I wanted to see if HP can provide a path forward to resolve the issue and repair my computer. Thanks for your time, Alp

Hi,I have the same problem that previous posts have described with my HP Spectre XT's left hinge. I am SUPER careful with my notebook. It hardly ever leaves the  house, I am the only person who uses it - very gently.About 11 months ago, the screen went black in this same bottom left hand area and HP repaired it under warranty.  I bought it from John Lewis who offer a 2 year warranty. However, it is now out of warranty and the hinge has caused the front plastic to lift off and the back to separate. I cannot close the lid for fear that the whole thing will fall apart. I did wonder whether the repair was guaranteed for a year - any ideas? How I can get it repaired please? This was a really expensive machine and this quality doesn't live up to expectations.Help!

The Hinge on my HP OMEN makes a loud creaking noise when I open and close it sometimes. The volume of the sound varies from no sound at all to an extremely loud sound. At first I thought this could be from the metal expanding or contracting and just being a bit tight but it appears the left side of the hinge has a huge gap as compared to the right side. (Multiple millimeter gap on the left and almost no gap at all on the right. I've looked this problem up and it appears others have had the same issue as I have and many have had issues with the hinge in general. Is there someway I can take apart the hinge safely and fix it myself or bring it to somehow who can fix it for very cheap or free? Thanks

When I had to ship my fairly new Ideapad y410p back for a major issue that surfaced, I was impressed with the customer service.  My laptop came back quickly and in good shape. Now the laptop is out of warranty and there is an issue with the left hinge: opening the laptop actually separates the back of the case from the rest of the machine.  It looked serious and as I googled, I saw that this is happening to other people and that warranty or no, Lenovo did not care that using the machine as intended was ripping it apart. They were charging full price for repair.

Here I am googling "y410p hinge issue".

I actually teach new computer users how to use the things.  They are so nervous, especially about the idea of buying a new computer.  I had been recommending Lenovo, mainly because of the customer service.  No longer.

My options are to send it back and have it  "repaired" for an ("sir, this is only an estimate") $270 - $300, buy the parts I found delineated in one thread that another user said would be needed to repair this problem, or get the parts and turn it over to someone else to repair.

I can't even use it fully as a sort of non-mobile  laptop, leaving it open in one place, as even changing the angle of the screen can cause it to reboot.
I used to work for Dell.  I chose Lenovo for a reason.  I was wrong.

hello,it is indeed very sad for me to type in here with the same subject. It's been less than 10 months since the same problem creeped up.I had earlier also complained the same thing regarding the recurring hinge problem of HP Envy 6 model which i own. This problem keeps happening again and again and is irritating to the end. So far, HP had given me the extended warranty but this hinge problem looks ridiculous. I would not have had complained if it was some other problem, but this hinge problem has been recurring and will continue to do so. This is because of the flawed design and as a customer, it really is disappointing as HP has failed to provide any long lasting solution. The temporary make up only further aggravates the problem. This is probably the fifth or the sixth time in the last 3 years, I am facing the cracked hinge problem of my laptop and it looks like, HP might well lose out on one more customer. Thank you.

So, basically, when I open my laptop, the base on the top left side begins to fall off a bit, and from the looks of it, it's affecting the hinge on that side as well (or it could be the hinge's fault). I do open and close my laptop more times than the normal person, so it wouldn't surprise me if the hinge is broken. The base on that side is already loose to begin with, but the problem seems to worsen when I open the laptop. I can still use my laptop and open and close it just fine, but I feel obligated to hold that corner in place when opening and closing it. In light of that issue, I have a few questions: Can you specify what exactly is wrong with my laptop, whether it be the hinge, base or whatever? Will this cause any long or short term damage to my computer, or even render it unusable? How long would my computer last like this assuming I take decent care of it, since I plan on eventually buying a new laptop when I come across the money? I don't have a warranty, so how long will it take HP to fix this if I send it to them, and how much will it cost? I hope someone is able to answer my questions.

I have hinge problem with my laptop Envy M6 1205dx which has no warranty.  Then the screen cracked a month after that. This laptop is a gift so I plan to have it fixed or fix it myself. What should I do? Bring it to a HP authorized service center or buy parts and fix it myself? Is it hard to replace the hinges and LCD screen?

Vista home premium worked fine on my computer for several months, I have an intel core 2 e4400 2.0ghz processor, 3 (1) gig kingston ram, intel dg965wh board, 250gb western digital harddrive, and a geforce 7600 graphics card. Vista home premium, norton antivirus, and office 2003

a few days ago my computer did somthing funny, it slowed down and when i put my coursor over the internet connection icon it said server execution failed. after searching the web and my computer for answers i decided to reinstall vista, i did a clean install and the problem seemed to be fixed, when i looked at the icon it said not connected to a network instead of server execution failed.

Vista seemed to load fine and fast, but when it loaded completly the programs were very slow, When the welcome center loaded i clicked connect to the internet option, and after waiting about three minute for the connection options to load, i clicked connect to a wireless network and immediatly the program stopped responding.

Along with the internet troubles i tried to install some of my software like: pinnacle HDTV pci card, adobe, microsoft flight simulator. The issue with installing my software was it would install about three-fourths of the way and then hang, eventually i would have to stop the installation.

To fix these problems i tried to reinstalled vista and the same issues occur on first boot before i installed any software.

A:Vista messed up, reinstalled, fixed problem, new problem reinstall doesnt help.

after racking my brain with possible fixes, doing memory diagnostics, formating and reinstalling vista, i finally found an a fix to the problem. The whole problem lay within the wirless usb network adapter. I just assumed that the problem was with vista not the network adapter. i figured it was with vista because the programs were slow and stopped responding.

But yesterday i went to Best Buy and bought a a new adapter and on the first try the computer connected, the programs were fast and were completly responsive, i am so happy, just upset that i didnt realize it in the first place, it could have saved me from the reinstall.

Immediately after purchase (Christmas 2013), the left hinge began operating with a click noise. Since it was always a tight open, I always opened it from the center and very carefully as it cost almost $1k and I treated it as if it were the glass that it is. Just after the one year warranty expired, I realized I should have contacted HP long ago. I couldn't access a phone number on the support page from an earlier HP Promo email and then realized that any after warranty support for this HP product would be difficult. I became accustomed to the click as if it were normal. I assumed it was the design, but then the movement in the hinge became alarming so, I started looking online to see if there may be a problem, a recall or a fix. When I discovered what seemed like everyone reporting the same problem and consumers that were upset and unable to find a solution to this comon problem; I became angry, too. I've waited until now to reach out for support as I have the time today to reregister and write. What is HP doing do make this right with their customers?

I have the Inspiron 5558 laptop with  Warranty up to may 2017.  From the date of purchase I noticed that at the time of lifting the screen the hinges are not comfortable. When I reported  to customer care about the problem they simply said " it is new product after some days you can be comfortable to lift the screen" But now after 5 and half months of being used at the right side big gap is there between the hinge and and the screen. I called customer care they said its not covered  in warranty because its broken due to my negligence and i have to fix it by paying Rs-7000/- . I don't understand why dell is not willing to accept their manufacture fault as my laptop never fell down and i never misused it? I also have heard of the similar problem from my colleagues even.

When I open up the notebook now, the left side rear of the bottom case (below the left hinge) comes apart as the screen is lifted up to a viewing position. I have to press the left side rear of the bottom of the case together with the top side of the case to get the left side rear of the case closed. When I lower the screen, the left side rear of the case comes apart and stays apart until the screen is shut. I am able to close the left side rear of the case by pressing the top and bottom of the left side rear of the case together. The right side hinge and the right side rear of the case do not have this issue. This problem has started today. I have smartphone pics I can send if needed. The notebook and screen is operational. Just not sure what is going on with left hinge to force case apart on the left rear side of the bottom panel.

Okay, so I have a Toshiba protege M700. I'm pretty happy with it, its been a great computer, and to its credit, held up very well.

However, I have come to have a slight problem

About a month back, I dropped it, or rather, it got pulled off a chair about 1.5 feet off the ground, and slammed on the floor.
The floor was carpeted, so the case didn't seem to take much damage even, but there appears to be a problem with the hinge though.

Every time I open / close it, or adjust the angle of the screen, it makes an aweful CREEKing noise...

Now, I'm positive that this was not present nearly as much if at all before its falling from the chair to the floor.
Anyone else have this problem?
Any ideas on what it might be?
Does anyone have a schematic of how the M700 is put together?
(Upon finding one, I would be able to take it apart and put it back together w/o destroying something)

A:Toshiba Protege M700 hinge problem

Okay, I've determined that the problem is actually due to something in the display panel, that is, that when I try and close it, the plastic flexes inside and creates a noise.
Now, this wouldn't worry me so much, if the display didn't start to bend upon closing the thing.

I've been trying to take the thing apart for days now, but I've gotten no where. i remove all the screw covers on the display panel, and then the screws, and it won't come off still!
What am I doing wrong?

Hello,  I have noticed that my right screw connecting the hinge of my screen and base of the laptop has come loose after a while now. I tried to tighten it but it won't. I read a few articles with people of the same laptop series and it made me think that whether this is a manufacturer's defect or not.  There is also a piece which, by my guess, has broken off and is now loose inside the body of the keyboard as I can hear it when I move my laptop around.  Is there a way to get this repaired at a repair centre? Or a better and more precise diagnostic, as I am just basing this on what I have read and my guess as an engineer. Thank you!

The left Hinge is pulling the upper portion of my wife's computer off , as the very heavy touchscreen applied too much torque to the notebook case . I have read in the forums that is is a very common issue with this model. My il-laws bought the same computer for my wife and her brother, and the same thing has happened to both computers. Is there any way this can be fixed? I have seen in the forums than many other people have this same problem, but I have not seen anyone post anything about any solutions to it. Any assistance or advice would be appreciated.

A:HP Envy Touchsmart Notebook M7 J010 Left Hinge problem

As you said this is a common problem with HP Envy's. I pulled apart my laptop to replace the fan in it and having the same problem as you j decided to take a look at it. What it was was a broken Skrew Hole (Sorry I'm having a mind blank) but where the skrew connects to the motherboard has been broken. This is a small peice of plastic. There is no real way of fixing this however there is actually a skrew right beside that one. Apart from when your moving the screen and the look of it, it woint damage your computer and nothing will come falling off it e.g screen, surround. I'm sorry but that's all the information/advice I can offer

I am too facing the same issue of the hinge on my inspiron 5547 when i checked with the dell team they say  its not covered under my warranty.
When i further analysed the issue the problem is as follows
1. The hinges are strong made of steel  but the base which fixes them to the front panel are plastics.
2.The nuts are moulded into plastic and fixed with screws which makes them break after our normal day to day usage.
3.I assume this has been overseen in the design review .
Can any one please advise how you got this fixed ?

Got my Application Error fixed. Needed to get back up and running urgently, so hunted around elsewhere. Answer???? it required a reinstall of XP Pro through msconfig in the run menu and the computer in safe mode.
A further word of advice, anyone with XP Pro and Service pack 2 installed would be wise to disable automatic updates for a while as some of the latest updates are conflicting with Sp2 downloads. Microsoft have had a big influx of calls to tech support after release of their latest security patch. Hope this helps someone avoid the problems I had.

I have just finished "fixing" my "corrupted or missing" hal.dll problem.

I tried booting into safe mode but the loading would halt at mup.sys
I tried booting into Repair (press R when it asks you whether you want to install, repair or quit) but after selecting the installation I wanted to fix it then asked me for the Admin Password tha I am sure I had left blank.I tried all the passwords tthat I would usually use but none would fit always ending up with "you have entered wrong password 3 times hit any key to restart!)

I looked on the web for programs that would allow me to RESET the admin password. I found a couple of sites, but one insisted that as an IE user it wouldn't let me in unless I browsed with ANY OTHER browser.
I found and downloaded a copy of UBCD which has, supposedly, a piece of software that will let you reset the admin password.
Downloaded the iso, burnt a CD, booted up, found the application, checked for corrupt files ( application said NO problems with installation), searched for the hal.dll file and found it in \Windows\System32. Founds a few others as well but you need to be careful since there is a copy in a folder with 76KB (size??) and another with 103KB which appeared to be... Read more

Hey guys. I've been posting in another thread about my Hard Drive. Someone suggested chkdsk, and I was able to detect/repair a problem. However, I've still got another problem. Now, I can get back through the user select screen, click my profile, and get to the desktop. The problem is that the desktop is completely blank. I see my wallpaper, and I can move my mouse, but there is no start menu/icons.

I've tried going into the task manager and opening explorer.exe, but all it does is flash something briefly at the bottom of the screen again and then go blank.

Can anyone suggest what I should do? Thoughts? Anything welcome.

Thanks,
Andrew

A:Fixed One Problem, One To Go.

I haven't read the other thread, was this problem here before, during, or after the hard drive problem? To me, it sounds like the error on your hard drive caused some Windows files to become corrupt, deleted, or what have you. I would try to do what they call a reinstallation. It will delete and reinstall all the Windows files on your hard drive, but leave all of your documents and programs intact. I don't see why that shouldn't work. Follow this link:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315341

I would print that out so you have it handy while you're doing it.

edit: Use method 2 on that page. Also, I forgot to mention that the reinstallation is only suppose to leave your documents and programs. Theres always an off beat chance that you can loose some files. I've done a repair installation once or twice with no problems. Theres a few links in that above link that explain this better.

Good luck.

Originally, I was having network adapter problems.... sfc scans didn't help... it was actually my fault... I must have inadvertantedly installed a driver or something which changed the way my system looked.... in that services that usually don't run were running (note: I have a near phobia of malware/hackers since I am or was quasi-skilled in the dark arts (was a programmer, but don't write malware, fyi), and I know what can be done, so I just try to keep a tight guard and an eye open). However, this sharp eye can sometimes backfire, and I too quickly start my own impromptu "fixes". I do not have the knowledge really to be guessing at what a registry key should be... but in any event... I screwed my adapters by what at the time appeared to be causing my netman.dll to become corrupt....

BUT, after restoring an old registry, the adapters worked... no more network access problems. But I knew the registry I just restored was 3 weeks old, and probably filled with junk. Without thinking I should walk softly for a bit to make sure all was well, I ran a mild registry cleaner.... I did backup the old registry and created a restore point first.

After I rebooted, the adapters still worked, but now.... strangely, my mouse stopped working. I was using--without any problem--an MS Explorer mini mouse (using intellipoint).... and it stopped dead.

So, I happened to have an older logitech wireless mouse in a drawer and plugged that in. Mouse was working once again..... Read more

If so how woud I do it. Thanks...

A:cd rom problem still not fixed

Hiyas

I've seen a few roms do this, open and close. Don't worry though, you don't need to d an exorcism. From what i've seen and been told the pcb goes a little faulty and just keeps sending out the signal to open and close the bay, even though the button isn't being pressed. Roms are rather cheap nowdays, so it's not really worth the hassle trying to fix it, unless you're in the mood for some investigating.

As for the slow boot, could be that your system is set to boot from rom first...which isn't working. Just set in the BIOS to boot from HDD first, and/or disable the ROM option until you replace it. It's normally under the second menu in Award Bios's, Advanced Chipset i believe.

Good luck and i hope this answers your questions.

BW

My PC setup:

- MSI K8N Sli nForce 4 mobo
- 3800+ Athlon 64 XP processor
- ATI Radeon PCI Express 16x X1600
- 1.5GB RAM etc etc
- 200GB SATA HDD

I had the same problem as you guys with the whole nvraid.sys. However, I don't have multiple drives, just one 200GB SATA drive. It just refuses to allow me to install Windows. However, on my CD, there was a "Promise 376/378 driver" for Windows XP. I remember my old MSI board used that to help install Win XP, so I tried using that when it asks "Press F6... etc" - Voila, it worked. I had also turned off all RAID functions in Bios, both Silicon and nVidia RAID.

Only problem I have now is that when I'm on Windows XP desktop, sometimes while doing various things, the pc just restarts for no reason whatsoever, like just restarts without warning (On desktop one second, next second I see the MSI logo cause it had restarted), bam. Can anyone help with that? Could it be a motherboard problem? The Win XP installation itself? Anyone have experience in this matter?

Would appreciate any advice. Thanks.

A:Fixed the SATA problem, but now a restarting problem...

Okay, I managed to get the following blue screen that appeared:

"A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

Beginning dump of physical memory
Physical memory dump complete

Contact your system administrator or technical support group for further assistance"

Anyone know how I can fix it? One more thing - When I put a CD into my CD-ROM, the PC restarts automaitcally within a couple of minutes... It happens if there is any CD in the drive, whether putting a new one in or not. But if the drive is empty, I left it on for 2 hours, and it didn't restart once.

Any help would be appreciated.

Looks like a fault with the Partition on the HardDrive (Fat32 or NTFS)

You could just use a Windows CD, remove the partition (prompted innitially when setting up) and then install Windows on a clean Partition

You may be able to repair the Partition too (as long as it's not a hardware fault with the actual HardDrive)
Have a look at Gparted bootCD for that

We are running Windows XP with two profiles, mine and my wife's. Her profile was hit by the XP Anti-virus 2011 malware, which prevented her from even getting on the Internet. I went to my profile, downloaded MBAM and ran it, which apparently was successful in ridding the computer of the XP Anti-virus trojan. The problem is that my wife now is unable to access the control panel from her profile. The following error message appears: "c:\windows\system32\rundll32.exe application not found" she also is not able to open up Safari, getting the following error message: "Safari application not found" she is, however, able to open up Explorer. One more thing, none of these problems occur in my profile.

Hi,
I had a problem with freezing and it seems alot of people do too. Well I fixed mine and here is how i did it. But make sure you notice the problems i had AFTER i fixed it. My freezing was random and it wouldnt let me use mouse or keyboard or anything. I put in my windows xp cd and reinstalled. However when it came up to the screen about pressing F6 to install RAID Device i held F5 and it came up to a screen with options . It only showed 2 options but if u scroll down with keyboard arrows it will show more(well it did with mine). I clicked Standard PC and continued on with normal installation. I have had no problems with it freezing at all. But now i have the problem of modem, sound card, and network card not functioning. Any tips, ideas, or anything feel free to tell me. I guess you should only do this as a last resort but always check fans, ram cards, and make sure all yoru drivers are up to date. But yes this does fix the freezing but and i stress use as a last resort unless you know how to fix the not functioning modem, soundcard, and network card on the ports. If you do know how to please write and help me out. Thanks

I thought the problem was fixed, but then I lost the ability to use my cd/dvd drive. I am including the requested dds log and have done step 6 of the malware removal guide. I cannot use gmer because my computer is a vista 64bit. I am also getting a prompt everytime I open an application that asks me what program I want to use. It only lets me choose between adobe and firefox or browse. I was able to snip a picture of it if someone needs to see it.

Thanks again,
Mike

Oh man, I just fixed one problem, and now another has reared its ugly head. I have an XP SP2 machine, which I've just reformatted. I've previously never had a problem with it's display once all the correct drivers have been installed. I had done the same routine as I always do when doing a fresh install, but for some reason the display looks terrible.

The icons aren't smooth, and everything is too large from the desktop to browsers, etc. The text is not crisp and clear either. However, the colours are fine. The display properties are correct (and as they have always previously been without any problems) with the resolution being set to 1024 x 768 pixels (correct for my monitor size), and the highest (32 bit) colour quality. I've ALWAYS had these settings, and the display has ALWAYS been fine, up to now that is. I have installed the correct drivers for the monitor (Flatron L1752S0), and the video graphics card (NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200).

I'm at a loss. Any help much appreciated. Thanks so much.

Hi,

(I run WIN XP SP2)

For a while my computer kept restarting. I enabled the STOP Error screen (and I used to get IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL), and I checked event viewer and found out that a video dll driver file for my Matrox Millennium G450 video card was the "faulting module," so I updated the driver and do not get any STOP Error/Restart issues (so far). However, I have noticed that when I am typing documents in MS Word and playing Windows Media Player at the same time, "Windows Explorer" eventually crashes, and when all my windows reappear, I close WM Player and the music keeps playing (not that this is an issue, i know how to stop it, just for your information). I check event viewer, and it says either the faulting module is unknown. When my full screen games (such as MOH Allied Assault) crash, it also says that the faulting module is unknown (rather than blaming it on the video driver). What should I do? Thank you so much for your help!

So I just had a minor panic attack. I hadthe EXE error, which I assumed was a virus. I changed my registry and rebooted my computer, and everything is running fine. My only issue now is I have BitTorrent symbols on 3/4s of my desktop and a bit of my toolbar. Is there any way to reset these?

Example: World of Warcraft is showing up as a BitTorrent symbol on a peice of paper. I would prefer not to have to delete my entire download just to get the symbol back. Is there a way to get this symbol to return to the "W"?

I have no back-up restore points.

Thanks much,

I know I like to talk, but I'll keep this as brief as I can, I received a virus, I believe it is the "Win32Backdoor.Agent" as that was the only thing AdAware was able to find, my other security software (System Mechanic, Win Patrol, SpyBot S&D) were completely unable to find anything but minor tracking cookies.

At first after receiving this virus, I lost my Remote Desktop connection (as this happened when I was away from the computer (but i'm sure this connection was not the cause, it WAS from a file i should have not been stupid enough to click on a not-so-trustworthy looking website) ... and I had problems logging on even before the logon script displayed ... basically, it was the Data Execution Prevention warning from windows, warning me that "Windows Logon UI" from Microsoft Corporation was closed ...etc

I passed through a number of these, and the resulting in those Error reporting windows ... eventually, I managed to get to Restore my computer to a previous state, (a day or two prior) ... and that helped, a BIT ... I now get to, and through the login (which odly sometimes comes through with the GUI, but sometimes just the basic Username/password login box) ... but the Data Execution Prevention errors still continue ...

Also, I completely cannot connect to the affected computer via Remote Desktop, even though port forwarding settings and everything like that checked out as it did when it was working.

My father-in-law who owns a networking business recommended me to use "Combofix" to take the virus off my laptop. The virus is a win32 generic host, at least that is what the error message says. After I ran Combofix, it said I had a rootkit and needed to reboot my computer to fix it. After the reboot, combofix ran again automatically and gave me the following log report. The instruction said to post this here to get some feedback and help. My computer still won't install all of the windows updates, so I think the virus is still on it. Hello All

I read most of the threads about OpenCloud. Using the Norton TDSS killer and Kaspersky TDSS Killer may have got the main rootkit or problem.

ComboFix was able to start, update, install Recovery Console, but hung everytime while scanning. Had to do a hard reboot each time.

SuperAntiSpyware and MalwareBytes, all died when you try a scan...and then would never re-open and would pop an error. You had to reinstall just to get them to run, and they would die on scanning.

So a lot of the redirects, proxy server, and wide array of programs and dll errors etc. kept occurring...not to mention there was something blocking SAS and MBAM.

I got wind of this program UVK at http://www.carifred.com/uvk/
it was free and it has within it...almost like a virtual machine....the ability to download and run SAS, MBAM, and ComboFix.
It also has some repair utilities that seemed to help.
It takes a little figuring...but there is a place where you ask it to run these scans and it downloads, installs, and scans but without UVK I could not get the malware programs to run no matter what I did.

This cleaned up ALL the little and big problems that still remained.

I also used the ComboFix recovery console to run FIXMBR and FIXBOOT earlier. ComboFix would never run a scan, but at least it got as far as installing the Recovery Console and that was helpful.

I can't say when or where exactly I killed the main process for OpenCloud, but I did see a lot of people were having the same trouble... Read more

A:How I fixed my OpenCloud Problem

I can't find anything wrong with the computer now...seems fine.

BUT I still can't run ComboFix without it hanging. In or out of UVK.
The MBAM and SAS scans ran great in UVK....and afterwards I could run SAS and MBAM as stand-alone once again.

ComboFix never would scan, and still won't inside or outside of UVK.

I fix the problem with the missing or corrupt system32/hal.dll issue, it seemingly was boot.ini related.
How can I prevent this in the future, is there anything I can do?

A:System32/hal.dll Problem Fixed But....

Hi dbonniwell. Do you know for sure what caused this to hapen in the first place ? If you do then don't do this again !! (Just kidding. Patient: "Doctor, Doctor! It hurts when I do this!" Doctor: "Don't do that!")

You have to know the cause and even if you do you may not be able to prevent this in the future. This may have happened due to no action of your own. You may not be able to trace the cause to something specific that you did.

You were able to fix the problem but didn't say how you did this. There may be no good defense against this, but at least you know what to do if it happens again.

Would you share with us how you fixed the problem ? Oh yes, and why this happened to begin with, if you know ?

Hello, and first off I want to say thanks for your time in helping all of us who aren't as knowledgeable with computers. I would like to think I know more than average but you guys really know what you are doing. Ok, yesterday I was infected to be what I figured was a vundo(A .rar file, trying to download software). I lost C:/D: drive access, lost task manager, had a new background with threatening biohazard symbol and phrase, computer was slowed down to just about a stop with some process labeled: ppxcs.exe, had pop ups, and was unable to run any of the very few apps that I had access to. After some time I was able to grab SUPERantispyware from a friends comp with a flash drive and run it. That go rid of most of the problem, still however, I was unable to run HJT or any other apps. After hours of trying I was able to get my malwarebytes software to run and that helped a little, still had that unknown process which was using 99-100% CPU. But I was finally able to run HJT (Log posted below) Oh, also, when I log into windows XP there is a black box that appears in the top left hand corner for a split second, I know that isn't good. Any help would be appreciated, and I would love to know if it's safe to delete that process. Also, my SUPERantispyware log is available if you need it. I know these malwares and viruses usually travel in groups...
I had a nasty little malware that put some sort of bogus "stop malware blah blah blah" on my pc, I used Malwarebytes' AntiMalware to remove it. It re-downloaded itself afterwards, so I did a more thorough scan and it went away. However, I now have bizarre random happenings going on on my PC...I had nineteen pop-ups when I started Explorer 8, but after a shutdown and subsequent re-openings and closings, it didn't do it again. But on this last reboot I put in my password and it just locked up for ten minutes while it was "loading your personal settings". Very unusual. I decided to reboot into safe mode and now here I am.

A:Thought I fixed it, but got another problem

So I'm cleaning out my viruses and malware and spyware, and after I reboot, I get a message that says "Outlook needs to compress files to save space. This mayt ake a few minutes". Which would be cool, except I removed Outlook from my computer. I instantly rebooted into Safe Mode, and lo and behold, there are two accounts listed - mine, and a second administrator account! I log into the new account (which doesn't require a password) and everything looks like mine, except on the command line the file reads "C:/Documents and Settings/Administrator.DASSIT". When I switched over to my account and listed users so I could remove it, the second Administrator account was not listed. I removed the folder from the Documents and Settings file, and it reappears on reboot. I will run an HJT log after someone responds, but really, I wanna know if anyone's heard of this???? Windows XP SP3 with IE8!

Hello gents. I recently posted about using Combofix in a boot environment because a recently reformatted would no longer boot into Windows. I knew the culprit was Playsushi, but after removing playsushi with an anti-virus boot cd, the pc would still no longer boot.

Myrti suggested I use the Windows CD and attempt a repair. That did the trick. All is well now.
However, I would like everyone to know HOW playsushi disabled the pc in the first place. There are MANY complaints on the web about playsushi causing many problems. Here is what it does to render machines unbootable.

Apparently, once downloaded and launched, playsushi executes a malicious script that corrupts the System Volume Information. That is what the Win 7 cd had to repair in order for the machine to return to normal. I'm glad I didn't just do another reformat. Solving this mystery and sharing the cause and solution is MUCH more satisfying. Thanks to the bleepingcomputer team. My best to you all.

I can't get the update to work! This is my second thread concerning this problem. The download stops at 50% then reloads and starts all over again. This is not an isolated problem as I've noticed many other users having the same exact issue. Every time I get a response from someone to try this or that nothing works. I posted this issue on the Microsoft Community Forum hoping to get an answer and again no success. I can not believe Microsoft does not believe this is a REAL issue. When RT version had issues last week they fixed them right away. Are we PC users going to be left without the ability to get a fix? I thought that V.8 would cure the problem but it did not as the firewall still did not initialize. It would actually stay stuck in initialization mode and could not be turned off. A very annoying problem that others were complaining about on this forum. System Mechanic worked fine otherwise. I reinstalled System Mechanic without the firewall and, since I needed a firewall I decided to install Zone Alarm which has always been a faithful and robust firewall for me in the past.

My computer worked ok and seemed protected but was sluggish. At some point ZoneAlrm sent a message that an upgrade was available so I accepted the upgrade. It did not take and warned that I needed an XP patch (kb943232) that was included in Service Pack 3. I tried to install SP3 in the past and had to uninstall it as it had problems as described by others using this forum. I finally did find a recent debugged version of SP3 at http://www.softwarepatch.com/windows/index.html . Since I have an AMD processor I first installed the AMD patch also available on softwarepatch.com .

I also tried to contact Iolo without avail. I only got their automatic reply. Bad PR guys!!! I was left to myself to figure out how to fix this Iolo firewall initalization problem. It seems to be working now as I reinstalled System Mechanic 8 with the firewall.

This was my premise thanks to ZoneAlarm: Since Zone... Read more

Hi Everyone,

I am new to this forum... and also slightly new to figuring out computers. I have a basic understanding, so if anyone replies, would really appreciate simple explanations! Thanks!

My computer is a Dell Inspirion 1545, with windows 7 operation. It is less that a year old.

Anyways, for the past three weeks I have been getting random crashes with the BSOD and the BC error code: 0000007F. From my understanding this could many different things including a hard drive issue, a RAM issue, a download issue, etc. I have done a hard rive diagnostic, a MEM test, a mother board test, a virus scan, a registry scan and fix.... and many other things, with all of them coming back as running normal. The last virus scan I did (using ESET) detected 4 various malwares including one trojan... I deleted these. I normally use AVG free, however AVG did not detect these.

Everything else about my computer is working fine... I have no problems on the internet... with programs... or with anything else. The one odd thing I have noticed is that every time I shut down my computer I have the "please do not shut down or power off your computer because updates are being installed" and it's always the same number of updates.

I will also say, for the last three months I have been arguing with Dell because my fan which cools down the entire heating system started to not work. I have gotten the issue fixed, and now have a working fan. Seeing as that is a mechanical issu... Read more

OK, this happened yesterday. I shut my laptop down the normal shutdown way, took it home from work powered up and...

Now I have 2 ways to log in, a fingerprint reader and reg password. First I did like I always do and scanned fingerprint and when I logged in it was not my account, it was as if my account was gone and I had none of my setting etc.....just gone. I figured ok, bio-metric reader is hosed, I will log off and log in via password, same problem. It was as if I was logged in under my account but no setting saved at all...nothing.

To fix it I did a restore from latest restore point. Its been fine ever sence, but anyone have any idea what may have caused this ?

Then under tools (internet tools, advanced) go to the things that say java, then uncheck all but the one that says something abouta virtual machine. IT WORKS!!!!!!!!!

I rarely get viruses on my own computer, so it really frustrates me when I do - even more when I cannot for the life of me fix it. I don't know how long it was creeping because there is only about two explanations where I got it from since I only go to the same places... it means either deviantart.com had one in their ads, AGAIN (One of my homepages on firefox is dA and I'm not logged in on Firefox anymore.. shame on me for not taking it off homepage) OR someone on facebook was clicking stupid links and has stuff on their page and I didn't catch it. Anyhow, it started with a BSOD. I was like okay.. maybe there is just too much power being used in house. (My stepdad just got a new heater and this house is old. Half the power got shut off when I turned on the microwave lol) BUT THEN I turned my computer back on and I got a ton of warning pop ups.. okay, I've dealt with that before. I found the .exe in task manager and turned it off, deleted it from where it was found, and emptied recycle bin.Now here's the problem. I restarted. Half the stuff on my desktop is missing, my task manager wasn't work (I don't remember how I fixed that). MBAM, which was supposed to be free version, is constantly telling me it's a trial and that it's expired and won't let me do anything. A lot of my pinned programs are now unpinned. Actually all of them are. And last night when I was scanning with Ad-Aware and Avira, I opened task manager and saw winrscmde in sv... Read more

Hello:

I am new to this site and have done some various reading throughout and am having an issue with the sfc /scannow files not being fixed. Unfortunately I am VERY computer novice. What I have done at this point is I have figured out how to save the CBS log on my desktop, but I have no idea at all how to show it on here. I have also found & deleted the two updates that are KB3022345 & KB3068708 that appear to be issues, but deleting them both made no difference. I hope im posting this in the correct thread and definitely will look forward to hearing responses. Thank-you.
