Q: Upgrading HP Probook 6470b - CPU, modem, Wifi, keyboard, dis...

Hello!I've just bought used (but mostly disassembled) 6470B. It's in very good shape (after cleaning... yuck!) and I see it becoming my main machine. However it's lacking essential components. I want to be it as modern as possible, since it's going to be in use as long as possible. Problem is HP documentation is wildly confusing and often contradicting itself. Will it work with: - Core i7-3632QM 35W Quad core CPU? I've found it's officially compatible with I7-3820QM (which is surprisingly 45W part, but extremely hard to come by in my area). I'd really love quad core CPU, it speeds up my work so much. - HP LT2523 LTE mPCIe modem (it's listed as a spare part for this laptop, despite only hs2350 and un2430 being listed on modem support)? - Intel 7260-AC WiFi/BT card? Previous model I had had WIFI whitelisting, this model probably doesn't, but I'd like to check. - Keyboard with a trackpoint? This requires some explaining: Originally it came with really badly dirty keyboard (not spilled, just unsavagably greased, like doritos mixed with butter massaged into it), and it lacked the trackpoint. Only spares I can find cheaply come with it - will it work (does it have the connector), or if not, will the keyboard still work? - FHD or HD+ IPS display, if there are compatible spares (with correct cable, of course)? I understand that half of it isn't officially supported, but I'll take the risk, as long as it works. Thanks in advance!

Here is the Service Manual: Manual There are two Intel motherboards. One with the QM77 chipset and one with the HM76 chipset. The top listed processor is the i7-3540M. It is listed as a Quad Core but I think in reality it has 2 cores. The smart answer is that you cannot use the i7-3632QM but it may work, particularly if you have the model with the QM77 chipset. The WWAN modem you ask about is listed in the parts list so will work. You can only use the WLAN cards listed on p. 38 and it has to be one with an HP Part number. There are keyboard options with and without the trackpoint so the motherboard is made to accept either one. See the picture on p. 92. There should be a zif connector for the pointer stick right next to the bigger zif for the main keyboard cable. Looks like the best screen is a 1600 x 900 (HD+). 14.0-in, LED, FLT, HD+, AntiGlare display panel 686047-001 http://www.ebay.com/itm/14-0-1600x900-LED-Screen-for-HP-ELITEBOOK-FOLIO-9470M-LCD-LAPTOP-686047-001-... It's a 40-pin LED screen and likely a FHD version in the same form factor, even an IPS, would work but never sure. Post back if you have any more questions. I have a Probook 6470 that I was using regularly until the hard drive died. I did not get around to replacing the hard drive until this week and in the meantime the unit sat, disconnected from the ac adapted but with the batter still in, for aproximately 2 months. After installing a new, unformatted drive I went to power the unit on and all I received was a blinking white light on the led panel. I have tried disconnecting the ac, taking out the battery, holding power for 30 seconds, and plugging the ac back in to no avail. I have reseated all memory and disconnected / reconnected the keyboard to no avail. If the battery is in place or not, the unit will only flash a white light when the power button is pushed.  Beginning to wonder if it is not the battery but I have yet to be able to confirm wether or not the system will power on with the battery removed. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, I am considering the purchase of a HP ProBook 6470b i5-3230m with WIn 8 COA.  It also has WIn 8.1 Pro installed.  If I purchase it, I would like to upgrade it to Win 10 Pro.  Now I have heard that WIndows 8.1 laptops are already Win 10 pre-activated; would the above ProBook fall into that category? Thanks, Mike

Hi all, there are so many problems report about WiFi issues on Windows 10, but I did not really find mine. I'm running the HP ProBook 470 with the Atheros 9000 series WiFi adapter. It worked fine with Windows 7 Professional, 64 Bit. A couple of weeks ago I decided to upgrade to Windows 10. Everything works fine, except WiFi. I can connect to the WLAN and the signal strength and network speed is perfect, but after some time (minutes or even hours) it suddenly drops down and my WLAN router even states disconnected, but it will repair by itself after some time. I can force the "self-repair-speed" by disabling and enabling WiFi again. But, this is no good solution, WiFi must work reliable all the time when not moving around, and it work perfectly with Windows 7. I hoped that Microsoft and the hardware vendors do manage the drivers after one year of Windows 10 release, but seems not to be so. I already installed the latest driver from HP download site, but this is already one year old, and it was the same like Windows / Microsoft did while Windows Upgrade. So no change to be expected. Before I downgrade again to Windows 7, what else can I do? Are there some other drivers which might interfere with WLAN and might not be up to date? (Besides the WLAN driver I did not update others manually as I did rely to the Windows upgrade process.) Volker

Hi,I have a HP Probook 4330s with i3-2310m 2.1 Ghz processor, HD 3000  integrated graphics, and 8gb RAM (1333Mhz). I see on the manual online that this laptop was also delivered with i7-2620M 2.7Ghz. Previous posts on this forum and other online forums indicate that it is possible to upgrade to this i7 CPU.is it just a matter of buying any i7-2620M? Or are there different types of the same cpu? I?m asking because some forum posts talk about socket and other things? What do I need to look for when buying this cpu for my computer? Please tell.

Massao. The SOCKET is the same for both so no worries there. Both have the same STEPPING J1 no worries there. Both have the same TPD 35W no worries there. Just make sure you replace the thermal paste. http://ark.intel.com/products/52220/Intel-Core-i3-2310M-Processor-3M-Cache-2_10-GHz http://ark.intel.com/products/52231/Intel-Core-i7-2620M-Processor-4M-Cache-up-to-3_40-GHz http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/CPUs/Intel/Core_i3_Mobile/i3-2310M_(PGA).html REO

I upgraded my Probook 6560b notebook to Windows 10 64-bit and I am having issues with Windows Explorer crashing every couple of seconds. When I attempt to go to the Control Panel to start uninstalling software that may be conflicting with the OS, as soon as I open the Control Panel, Windows Explorer crashes and closes everything that was open and I'm back to the Desktop.  I started uninstalling anything that was HP related on the machine by using the portable version of Reveo uninstaller but I still can't find the culprit, including uninstalling the Validity fingerprint software.  I would appreciate any assistance that anyone can offer me on this issue.  Thanks

Hi: Please do the following, and I will post the link to the wireless driver you need to install... Go to the device manager, find the Other Devices category, and click on the Network Controller needing drivers.  Then click on the Details tab at the top of the Network Controller window. Now you see a Property drop down list and it is defaulted to Device Description.  Drop down on that and select the second item on the list (Hardware ID's). Post the top string of characters that begin with PCI\VEN.

Not really. The ADSL router doesn't have the correct WAN interface. You need a standard router with an Ethernet WAN connection.

I have a Probook 4530s that had some catastropic problems and I was forced to reinstall my Operating System and the various drivers to get the machine back to operational. For a while it kept getting stuck at the Starting Microsoft screen and wouldn't load further. I finally got passed that (but I still haven't installed the switchable graphics drivers for the AMD driver).  I am currently connecting to the internet via a wired connection. I noticed my wifi doesn't show up, and in the HP Connection Manager it says the wifi has been disabled in the bios, but I am unable to reenable it in the bios as it is greyed out. I also wonder which driver set I should be installing for my wireless ethernet as it shows a bunch of options for my computer model on the driver support page? I do know my wired ethernet works and that driver is using a Realtek driver. I have other issues but I'm slowly tying to get my machine back to operational. I appreciate any help or advice. Thanks,Eric

A:Connect a Wireless Modem to ADSL modem for Wifi

The "nokia siemens SL2_141" is a modem/wireless router combo; I assume that "A Wireless Modem of MTS" is also a modem/wireless router combo.

If my assumption is correct you can use the Nokia as an ethernet switch and wireless access point ...

JohnWill's procedure (Aug. 30, 2008) for configuring a secondary router as a switch and, optionally, wireless access point follows.

Connecting two (or more) SOHO broadband routers together.

Note: The "primary" router can be an actual router, a software gateway like Microsoft Internet Connection Sharing, or a server connection that has the capability to supply more than one IP address using DHCP server capability. No changes are made to the primary "router" configuration.

Configure the IP address of the secondary router(s) to be in the same subnet as the primary router, but out of the range of the DHCP server in the primary router. For instance DHCP server addresses 192.168.0.2 through 192.168.0.100, I'd assign the secondary router 192.168.0.254 as it's IP address, 192.168.0.253 for another router, etc.

Note: Do this first, as you will have to reboot the computer to connect to the router again for the remaining changes.

Disable the DHCP server in the secondary router.

Setup the wireless section just the way you would if it was the primary router, channels, encryption, etc.

Connect from the primary router's LAN port to one of the LAN ports on the secondary router. If ther... Read more

The original keyboard on this laptop literally wore out from heavy use and was replaced with HP OEM parts about a year ago.  It has been working fine ever since. Last night I was working in MS Word 2000, printed a draft of the document, and put the computer to sleep. The following programs were running: WORD, MuseScore, Character Map, IE11, Library, Virtual XP, Outlook Express. This morning upon waking up the computer, a number of keys on the keyboard would not work in any application: Backspace, g, h, left and down arrows, end, page down. I rebooted the entire computer (including the virtual machine) and got the same problem. I started IE and ran a G-search for keyboard problems on HP probooks and got to this site. In the process of registering I noticed that the non-functioning keys had suddenly come back to life. Can anyone explain what happened?

Hi: You should be able to...Just make sure you connect by ethernet cable so W10 is activated before the deadline. Then I recommend you get the Intel Centrino® Advanced-N 6230 wlan card...HP Part number 636672-001, listed in chapter 3, page 25 of the service manual.  That is the only card that I see on the list that should work on W10. NOTE:  You MUST get that specific card, and it MUST have the HP part number on it or it will not work. I usually go on eBay, query by the HP part number and buy a card that shows the part number in the eBay listing photograph.  But an easier thing to do would be to make the W10 installation DVD by using the media creation tool at the link below, run the upgrade from the windows desktop, select do not check for updates and W10 will bypass any hardware checks and install with the atheros card in place. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 I doubt the atheros card will work after W10 is installed, but you shouldn't have to remove it just to install W10. There is a W10 driver for that card but I think the hardware version of the card your notebook has is too old to work with the driver. This package contains the driver installation package for the Qualcomm Atheros AR9000-Series wireless LAN Controller in the supported models and operating systems.  ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp71501-72000/sp71858.exe OPERATING SYSTEM(S):Microsoft Windows 10 32Microso... Quite simply, my question is this: Which ProBooks on the UK market, if any, have a backlit keyboard? There is seemingly no clarity on this, certainly not in the ProBook specificiation details, it is incredibly frustrating. I believe for the ProBook 455 G3 a backlit keyboard is optional? Does this mean a ProBook laptop can be ordered with a backlit keyboard directly from HP? Which laptops, if any, in the ProBook 450 series have a backlit keyboard? I will not make a purchase until i have clarity on this matter.

On the second router, DHCP needs to be disabled and assign a fixed IP within the router's IP scope (with Wi-Fi capability) i.e. 192.168.1.3 (make sure that 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.3 will be in the IP exclusion list).

Just recently my HP ProBook 4520s, running Windows 7 32-bit, has had trouble connecting to the internet through WiFi. I've been reading into it and looking around the net, but to no avail. It shows my home network and connects, but with limited access (no access to the net in my case).

I did a system restore in hopes that it would fix the problem, and I got access for all of 30 seconds before it went back to limited connectivity. I manually updated the network card drivers, and still nothing. It's leading me to believe that its my router blocking access (Netgear WNDR3700). I haven't had a problem up until recently and its only with the laptop. My desktop PC, game consoles, and television can all still access the internet, with the desktop connecting through WiFi as well. I checked the router logs and noticed several DoS attacks and was thinking this may have something to do with it (and possibly laptop being infected?).

So, randomly one day, I turned on my laptop and couldn't log in, because a lot of my keys weren't working. The keys are:  4, 7, =, q, w, e, r, u, i, o, p, [, a, s, d, k, l, ;, and some other keys like delete.  I've tried setting bios settings to default, tried updating bios to the latest. Tried the "removing the battery" trick, tried removing hp support assistance, tried uninstalling keyboards (including hidden) via device manager, and tried installing pretty much every driver on the HP website.  USB keyboard works, but it's not an ideal fix. Would really appreciate any help that can be offered please.  Thank you!

I am unable to use my laptop's touchpad and keyboard. Even my mouse is operational only when the windows is loaded. Meaning, during the booting time when i wish to change the booting option, at that time i am unable to use even my mouse. Which otherwise is the only outside device used via usb port. Earlier there was issue of BIOS application, which was corrupted, which not is visible when i just boot, meaning thereby, the button namely f1 or f8 is operation at the time of booting, but unable to do any change in the booting options which are visible when i just boot my laptop. Though with the help of USB i am able to work on my externally attached keyboard. What should be done to cure this issue this is persistently bothering me for last 15 days. I am unable to make my laptop's touchpad and keyboard operational. 1 thing more only Tab is operational and opening and closing bracket keys work that is it. And as i said now only f1 or f8 works during the booting, nothing else. Please get me out of this trouble. I've trying for many days. But unable to get rid of this issue.

Hi,

I just bought a netgear rangemax next ADSL2+ wireless modem. I also have Belkin pre-N wireless modem from before. Now the Belkin is working ok (Even though it disconnects every now & then) but when i remove it (Unplug it) and try to install the Netgear rangemax from the CD provided, it doesn't detect my ISP connection and tells me there is no connection detected. I returned the Belkin and it still works!

Is there any obvious thing i am missing here ?? Is there any special way to remove a previous modem to install a new one??

Thanks in advance for your help and looking forward to see some replies

I wasn't sure whether to post here or in the Web Browsing forum.

I've been using dial-up my whole life. Pretty soon I'll be switching over to cable modem. Before I do, though, I just wondered whether there are any new potential security threats that I'll be exposing myself to that don't necessarily exist with dial-up? That "always-on" thing immediately comes to mind, although I suppose I could always unplug the new modem when not in use.

Any general list of helpful tips to make my migration more secure?

Hi all,

I need some guidance on this:

Currently I'm using a 2wire ADSL Wireless modem router... its good only on G standard. Now, I'm thinking of getting the Belkin or Netgear N wireless router for my wireless networking.

Question:
1) How can I configure this new router to co-exists with my modem router? (logically I think I've to disable all routing functions on the 2wire, if that is possible?)

Any help is appreciated.

thx,
sudsmeister

A:Wireless modem router upgrading ...

Welcome to Seven Forums!

Can you be a bit more specific on how you want the old router to "coexist" with the new one?

Could it be you want to keep the 2WIRE ADSL router in place but disable the "g" wireless and then use the new "n" in it's place?

If so, you'll need to shut off or disable the "g" radio in the 2Wire first. That's all you'll need to do there.

Next, shut of the DHCP server on the new "n" router. Give the LAN port a static IP address on the same IP subnet as the "g" router but outside it's DHCP server range.

IE: If the "g" router's DHCP server hands out addresses in the range 192.1658.1.2 to 192.168.1.150, use 192.168.1.151 or higher. If it uses the whole range, you'll need to make it smaller to make room for the "n" router's address. The reason for this is to allow you to manage the new "n" router.

Then take a CAT5 cable and connect from the LAN port of the "g" router to one of the LAN ports on the "n" router. *NOT* the WAN port!

What this does is turns the "n" router into a basic Access Point (AP). You've bypassed the router and DHCP server function on the "n".

I've recently upgraded my modem from a standard us robotics internal 56k pci, to an external us robotics 56k faxmodem that supports v92 (model 5686e) I uninstalled my old modem and drivers and comport that it was on, and physically removed the modem. After installing the external, the computer recognized it as us robotics ext 56k faxmodem p&p. I then updated the driver off of the CD. I installed Control Center from the CD and then installed the "phone on hold" program from the CD. I rebooted and the phone on hold program came up with an error that said "no valid us robitics modem found"(or something close to that) I then found that the Control Center is unable to locate the modem. I've repeated this several times, including downloading the drivers from us robotics. The modem does work, but not very well. It seems to be working off of the basic windows plug and play, and not up to v92, even though it is on the latest driver. Also, on the modem properties, it states that the driver is version 5.3.22.0 Under diagnostics, it says that the modem is a usr2082, and that sure isn't right. I'm pulling my hair out. Any help is appreciated. My motherboard is an ASUS p5nd2-sli deluxe.

A:problems upgrading to v92 ext modem (us robotics)

I tried a similar thing not long ago. Installed a V92 Robotics internal modem with the goal of using the "modem on hold" feature advertised. Before doing this, I checked with my dial-up ISP to ensure they supported V92 technology. The said they did. I could never get it to work and after numerous extended phone conversations with my ISP's tech support finally just gave it up.

It was just to simple to redial after the need to use the telephone was over to bother pursuing it. On the plus side, the new modem had a on board processor which provided a little more speed than my old Winmodem.

A:Wireless modem router upgrading ...

Hi Sudmeister.

Get Netgear or Linksys over Belkin any day in my opinion!

You could buy a combined ADSL modem/router but if you want to keep the 2-wire (which is a good idea should things go wrong you can always revert back to using it as wireless router)

You need to configure the 2-wire as a bridge which is mentioned here.....http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies-archive.cfm/875883.html,
here.....http://www.dslreports.com/faq/10495

and here http://www.ehow.com/how_5160159_put-wire-bridge-mode.html

You have it working now so I would start from option 10 of the 'ehow' instructions.

Good Luck. Let us know how you get on?

Make a note of current settings to save you a headache if things do not work out with the router.

Hi,

I recently bought dlink D2750U WIFI ADSL modem/router, for my ADSL internet connection.

But I have now changed my ISP, who provide internet via cable(not telephone line). The ISP guy provides a cable modem(old modem) along with it.

I have connected my PC this way:
Cable modem -> Router -> PC through RJ45. I am able to access internet from my PC, but I am not able to get wifi working on the router. And I am logging onto internet through a dial up connection.
Questions:
1) Please help in configuring the router to get wifi working.
2) Also, my default gateway seems to be either 0.0.0.0 or blank. So, I am not able to login to the modem unless I remove the modem connection. Please let me know if I am doing anything wrong here.

Here are a few more details:
Output of ipconfig: http://pastebin.com/Zr9Eb7L7

A:Using dlink D2750U Wifi Modem/Router As a Wifi Router

Hey Narain. The D-Link unit you have appears to be a combo unit (modem and wireless router) since it connects straight to the RJ-11 phone line. This unit won't work with an ISP that provides service by way of coax cable. The D-Link will work if you want to use DSL, but you need a cable service compatible modem or combo modem/router if you use cable service.

With the internal card disabled and the other card properly installed, let's see this.
Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD then press Enter to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

I'd also like to see this.

Download and run this Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector, paste a screen shot of the Network screen here. Note that this application requires NET Framework to run. If you get an error about a missing function, download and install NET Framework.
To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file. To upload it to the forum, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here.

After upgrading from Win2K to WinXP I am no longer able to connect using my ATT Worldnet connection. First I attempted to "Restore my account" and got the message "There is no Modem configured. Please Configure a modem and restart Registration process." I check my modem and it is enabled and working properly. It is an Agere Win Modem, location: PCI bus 2, device 6, function 0. The driver version is 8.30.0.0 with a date of 7/1/2003. I downloaded the latest driver "8.30.0.0" from the agere website and it said that it was supported by XP but when installing, got the message that it did not have the XP compatibility logo so no guarantees.

Any advise???

I'm thinking about upgrading my wifi-card to an Intel AC card. As far as I can understand there is a BIOS whitelist for authorized hardware which will require flashing before installing anything with non-Lenovo FRU. As I haven't been able to find a card dealt by Lenovo I don't really see any other option than flashing. Could anyone point me in a direction of a working card, or a working BIOS mod? I was thinking the Intel 7260 as a replacement card. Has anyone done this before? :-)

There is no out-of-the-box-working AC wireless card for a T420, so you're looking at a BIOS mod.

There are places online that specialise in providing modded BIOSes, I doubt that anyone around here will post a direct link to one of them on Lenovo's own forum.

If not, then you may consider holding off on the Windows 10 upgrade for a few weeks, until drivers can be updated. However, if you are able to get the WiFi and Bluetooth to work, using an external device, then you can continue to use Windows 10.  Keep in mind, that the rollback option is only good for the first 28 days, after installing Windows 10. Please let me know if this information was helpful by clicking the thumbs up below.Regards!

Before you consider trying to add a different internal card, keep in mind that many laptop/netbook manufacturers lock the BIOS to specific wireless cards. I have a perfectly good 802.11n card in my closet that won't work in my HP or Toshiba laptops, both of them hang during the boot telling me I have an unsupported wireless card. They will ONLY accept the specific PCI ID that was shipped with the machine.

Here is our problem, and solution, I hope it helps some of you!  PROBLEM: We got a new router, BT Smart Hub (upgraded from a BT Home Hub), and my Dad's computer a Lenova G505 suddeny would not connect to the internet. All other devices connected fine. His laptop got a 5 bar signal to the 2.4ghz network but when opening an internet page, it would not work. It did not pick up the 5ghz network at all, all oher devices did.  SOLUTION: Firstly we updated the drivers from the Lenovo website to ensure we were all up to date. This did not fix the problem, however I still feel it is an important first step. As the laptp was not picking up the 5ghz network at all (it is the same wireless network name but followed by -5 and other machines were) we thought this may be part of the problem. We found out via Google that to support 5ghz, his broadband capabilities would beed to show the letters A / AC.  To check his broadband capability we did the following: opened Device management, went to Network Adaptors, clicked on Boradcom, went to properties, clicked on advanced. The advanced section showed a long list, we found Broadband Capailities on the list, and were shown a code that contained the letters B / N. This means that his machine does not support dual band conection, so that is why the 5ghz was not showing up! We thought perhaps because his machine does not support dual band, and we have two networks running, this may be why the internet was... Hi!
I am using Inspiron 17R SE 7720 (Service Tag: B8P81W1 | Express Service Code: 24470701201). The BIOS firmware is latest (A17).
This laptop is included in "Computers tested for upgrade to Windows 10".
However I expect problems in Windows 10 when going to sleep mode and/or entering powersave mode - WiFi stops working after waking up. It is a well-known problem and it is caused by Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230 wi-fi adapter used in my laptop. The problem is driver-based and Intel has no plan to solve it because the adapter is obsolete.
I am going to upgrade my laptop replacing Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230 with new Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 8260. It has the same form-factor and officially supports Windows 10.
Please let me know is there any restriction in BIOS those prevent changing WiFi adapter in this way?

Hey there, I need a laptop for my studies - that's why I looked for my HP 650 Laptop I used three years ago. First thing I did was upgrading to Windows 10. I didn't have any problems doing that at home connected to my home wifi. When I'm at school there are two wifi networks: one secured wifi and one unsecured wifi. If you connect to the unsecured one a log in browser window pops up asking for a username and password. When connecting to the secured one the credentials are the exact same ones. BUT: I don't have any problems connecting to the unsecured one. Problems occur when I try to connect to the secured (faster) one. This morning I was able to use the secured one. After 2 or 3 hours I was kicked out and ever since I am not able to reconnect to the secured one. The latest drivers for the network adapter are installed. I also tried adding the network manually. I unchecked "Varify the server's identity by validating the certificate". Now I am asked to put in my username and password in a system window - but it doesn't go through and I am asked over and over again without any established connection. Any ideas what to do?

Okay. Who is your ISP. There has been known issues for that model. That is why most go with their own equipment for Internet. Too many issues with the all-in-one gateways.

You could just turn off the onboard wifi, and use a Wireless Access Point instead. I use the Engenius ECB-350 for my network. Never have had any issues with it. I can pick it up to 75' from my house.

I am having a BSNL(India) broadband connection with modem ZTE ZXDSL 831 AII. I am using a dail up for connecting to net.

Because of this i cannot connect it to my Wifi router Dlink DI 524 .

Previously i had a modem which need to be connected using dail up connection it was always connected i only had to enable or disable it , and could be easily be connected to WiFi.

but eventually using it with WiFi it became kaput ( i dont know y, but the modem started to behave weirdly and could not be connect later ) hence it was replaced by a BSNL technician . and he told that now there is no other solution than to connect the modem using dial up. because of which i cannot use my wifi .

Can nebody please explain me ,what all setting need to be change to use my Wifi with the modem, because i believe if it cud be done before y not now.

please let me know as soon as possible.

A:please help to configure modem and Wifi

I don't know about the "AII" part, but the ZTE ZXDSL 831 is an ADSL modem/router. It may be acting as both, or it may be "bridged" to act as a modem only.

I also don't really know what you mean by "dail up." Since you apparently have (A)DSL service I assume you probably mean PPPoE and your account/password. If so, then ...

If the modem/router is acting as a modem only you would specify that configuration type in the D-Link's WAN section.

If the modem/router is acting as both then you have a choice of ways to use the D-Link. To simply daisy-chain it the WAN is configured for (the default) dynamic connection and you need to make sure that it is not using the same LAN subnet as the modem/router (I think that the defaults are different).

Here is a link to the troubleshooting the Wireless connection, if you need it. Here is a document on Airplane mode. If Airplane mode is on you cannot use your WiFi or Ethernet, so Airplane mode should off for the Wireless troubleshooting. You can do a system restore. System restore will help if something automatically updated and did not go well on the Notebook and stopped the WiFi from working. When performing a System restore please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices as they can cause issues. Please let me know how this goes. You can say thanks for trying to help, by clicking the Thumbs Up below!.Thanks.

A:upgrading WIFI adapter to support 5ghz

Hello,               Since you mentioned that you need to chage the frequency band to 5Ghz. It is not possible as the maximum frequency band that this card can run is 2.4Ghz Only with data transfer speed of 300Mbps. However you can change the channel settings in the router and check whether that works.  ******Clicking the Thumbs-Up button is a way to say -Thanks!.********Click Accept as Solution on a Reply that solves your issue to help others** I am an HP Employee#HPExpertsday

Hi,
Welcome to the forums, you need to tell us more about your system, if you are using a dual band router, try switching to 2.4GHz band, you could also try updating your Wi-Fi driver.

Dell built these systems (I also have an E5500 which is very similar architecture but is dual processor) to run on Vista Business and I can downgrade to XP because they sent me all the drivers on a CD ROM for that when I was still under warranty. Vista Business is a very good operating system but it has the problem with losing print spoolers all the time and the "jumping cursor issue" and I have hear that 7 is more efficient and has more options. But when I try to upgrade I am pretty much dead in the water because the driver site does not list a wifi driver for 7. It works but no communication except thru the LAN. This of course is true (or false) for all of the VB driver set. Should I try to install 7 again and then dowload the drivers and see which work? What other suggestions might you have?

I live in a neighborhood with lots of 2.4GHz Wifi (and other) activity, and would like to swap out the wireless card in my Lenovo Z570 so I can use the 5GHz band as well.  Is there an official upgrade I can purchase from Lenovo for this?  If not, can I get an Intel Wifi card to replace it, or possibly get a Thinkpad-certified card if that is necessary?  I understand that the BIOS may prevent non-approved cards from being recognized and used in my system. Thanks in advance for your help! Alan

Hi,

We have a G router and our wifi does not reach the range we require in our home. (Cox recently upgraded to the N router and gave existing customers a new router for free...I asked Verizon if they would be upgrading and was told yes, but not sure when; it has been several months now and we Verizon customers have not heard anything new).

My issue is: Does anyone know how to either upgrade to the N router? Not sure what configurations need to be done with hardware/software.

Or I heard that there are range extenders in the stores we can purchase. If anyone has any experience and can tell a determined beginner how to hook up the equipment and configure the software, I would greatly appreciate it!

Thank You,
Sharon in RI

NiteshSuthar Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!I read your post about WiFi not working on your Pavilion DV6 after the Win10 Upgrade and wanted to help. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try: HP PCs - Troubleshooting Wireless Network and Internet If those don't work, then what MIGHT work is what I did with my HP DV6 -- clean install from Win10 install media with the WiFi turned ON. I ran into the same problem as you, and apparently, if you UPGRADE the DV6 to Win10, the WiFi button no longer works -- at least, that is what I ran into. The clean-install will erase the partition containing Win10, removing everything in it, so you need to save off any data you want to retain. You can create Win10 install media from this link: Installing Windows 10 using the media creation tool - Windows Help Good LuckI am a volunteer and I do not work for, nor do I represent, HP.========================================================================If you feel my suggestions helped you, please click the Thumbs-Up symbol to say thanks! If they helped resolve your issue, please click "Accept As Solution" to help others find similar information.

We thought perhaps because his machine does not support dual band, and we have two networks running, this may be why the in... Read more

Hi. In over my head (not hard to do in this area ) I have Centurylink service and currently are renting their modem/wifi box. I want to replace it with my own modem and my Linksys EA4500 N900router. What do I need to buy to replace the modem so that it is compatible with Centurylink? and do I need to know the IP address currently associated with it to set up the new modem?
Thanks!

A:Replace Centurylink Modem/Wifi

You need to check either them to see if they allow that and what all you need to configure and let them know, they may not allow modems that aren't approved from them work or may charge you for modem rental anyways as it may be part of their service. You may also loose the ability for them them to provide you troubleshooting if they are unfamiliar with the units you choose. It appears they are a DSL provider and not Cable is that correct? For DSL you'd have to program the router with your DSL username and password to connect, so you'll need to know that. You shouldn't need to know any IP address for the modem as that's assigned by them but you will need to be able to access your router to configure it, so either it's IP address or use the CD Wizard to configure it.

I had a Beetel 440BXi router (you wouldn't know of this brand, it's India only), and everything was fine with it. This week, the ISP guys came and changed the modem to the different model, Beetel 450TC1. They say it's an upgrade.

But now I'm having a strange problem. It works fine on my desktop (ethernet), and my laptop through WiFi. But my NOT on my phone. I'm sure it's not my Phone's issue because I've tried connecting to other networks, and it works successful. Still, I've tried putting new/different versions of the ROM on my phone, but nothing works. Everything was fine before the router change.

I have no idea what the problem is. I complained to the ISP but they insist it's the phone's problem.

So I've tried all this:
1. Resetting the router to factory settings
2. Using WEP instead of WPA PSK 2.
3. Reflashing my phone.
4. Using 802.11b instead of 802.11g+b.
I'm using Windows Mobile 6.5.3 on my HTC Touch (Elfin).

Can you guys help? What can be the problem?

My guess is "no" but that's only a guess. Let's take a quick look at ...

Open a (black) Command Prompt window:
Hold the Windows logo key and press r; in the Run box type cmd and click on OK.

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

What kind of phone do you have? If you have wifi, I don't understand why you can't go into the wifi setting on your phone, find wifi & amongst other possible networks should be yours.
Or just get the manual for it , online if need be & go for it. Good luck.

I currently have two cables. One cable is a yellow ethernet cable that is plugged into my motorola cable modem in the Ethernet slot. The opposite end is plugged into the Slot 1 slot in my Linksys wireless router. My second cable is a grey ethernet cable. One end is plugged into the back of my computer and the opposite is plugged into Slot 2 slot in my Linksys wireless router. All of the lights are on both my modem and my router as if everything is working okay. The internet works as well.
However, when I try to access my Linksys wireless settings by typing in http://192.168.1.1/ in my address bar, it says the connection has timed out. It says this each time.
Now, when I move my yellow ethernet cable, that is plugged into Slot 1, into the Internet slot in my Linksys router, and I slide my grey ethernet cable to Slot one, I restart my router and I am now about to access http://192.168.1.1/. However, though I can access these settings, I cannot browse the internet. When I go to google or any other website, it says page cannot be displayed. Therefore, I cannot easily toggle between the Linksys settings and my internet, without moving around wires and restarting my router.
I'm doing this because I'm trying to configure my router with WiFi so I can use my Nintendo DS. Can anybody tell me why I'm having such difficulty with being able to view the Linksys settings and keep my internet connection at the same time? By the way, my Linksys Wireless Router is a WRT54G. A:Router and Modem WiFi Issue

Well, the modem has to connect to the WAN/Internet connection or you won't have any success here. What's happening now is the computer is connecting directly to the modem and using the router as a simple switch.

Do NOT try to configure the router using the wireless connection! Connect it with a cable for configuration, then you can disconnect it once you get it all configured.
Reset the router to factory defaults by holding the reset button down for 15 seconds with power on.
Turn off everything, the modem, router, computer.
Connect the modem to the router's WAN/Internet port.
Connect the computer to one of the router's LAN/Network ports.
Turn on the modem, wait for a steady connect light.
Turn on the router, wait for two minutes.
Boot the computer.

When the computer is completely booted, let's see this.

Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt:

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

I'm a bit of a rookie when it comes to Networking but here goes.

I've got a D-Link DSL-604+ 22Mbps Wireless router with built-in ADSL modem and a D-Link DI-624 108Mbps Wireless Broadband router.

Obviously the DI-624 that I recently purchased doesn't feature an in-built modem so instead of blowing $50 on a D-Link ADSL modem with Ethernet connectivity I was hoping to use the ADSL modem feature in my old Wireless router (604+) as my modem for the DI-624.

I called D-Link support but unfortunately after an hour of following live instructions from their support staff, I ended up nowhere.

They instructed me to disable DHCP and NAT features on the 604+ and plug an ethernet cable into it's LAN PORT 1 and plug the other end into the WAN PORT on the 624.

I plugged an ethernet cable into the DI-624 LAN PORT 1 and into my computer's Ethernet port in order to configure the DI-624.

After configuring the DI-624 via its web configuration web page, I could get the 108Mbps network up and running but without the access to DSL.

If anyone any of the above mentioned products and can provide a tip or a link to a guide or something, that would be great.

Thanks

Not sure where to post this.

Wifi Modem interference questions.

I am from the U.S.
I got a combo modem/router from a cable company.
It has four Ethernet ports,
It also wifi capable.
I have two computers both hooked up to Modem/router

I been having signal issues. I thought it was the cable company, which I am in the process of quitting their internet service.

I had the modem disconnected from the cable line the other night. I noticed modem received interference around 11:30 p.m.

What type of devices can interfere with a combo modem/router and cause it not to work at all?
Medical? Alarm?

Yes, I changed to default password for logging into the modem.
