HP Pavilion dv8 suddenly stops charging & won't charge unles...

Q: HP Pavilion dv8 suddenly stops charging & won't charge unles...

So my laptop has two LED lights, one in the front and one near the plug-in for the charger. Before it would charge perfectly and both lights turned on, then my charger broke and my grandmother got me a charger. This charger worked perfectly but the near-plug-in-LED light stopped turning on. Only the front one was turning on, but aside from that everything seemed just fine. My laptop requires a 120w Charger and the charger she gave me was of 65w. I didn't know this until about a week ago since suddenly during gameplays it would just randomly stop charging after about 5 minutes into a video game or after maybe 2 hours of just browsing and stuff. I went to a place to get it checked and they told me it was because of the charger, etc etc. Now I bought a new charger and it's still the same, it charges (even though the battery icon says it's on 84% and doesn't move from there) but it suddenly just stops charging after a while again. The problem with it not charging is that my laptop gets extremely laggy and only lasts about 1 minute before it shuts down.Is it the battery? Please tell me there's another solution... Batteries are expensive. The reason I added so much detail to this question is because I don't want to leave anything out. Thanks

i have been using this laptop for 2 years i get it from my friend .

from start it always charges battery upto 56 percent.

and i thought that there is problem in the battery cell and in few months battery backup becomes very short.

Yesterday i bought a new battery for my laptop but it is giving me the same problem which i had with my previous battery.

So this is not battery problem.

Things i have tried

1)Removing battery and uninstalling windows ac adaptor from Device manager.

2)Removing both battery and power Adaptor and pushing the power button for 20 sec if there is any residuel current.

Nothing has worked for me so far.

I would be thankful for your guidance.

Thank you
(I'm running windows 10 X64)

I bought my Spectre x360 in February 2016.  Everything has been fine, even through the upgrade to Windows 10.  However, last weekend we went to Yellowstone, and having no 120v at the campground, I used a 400w inverter my father in law had just given me to charge the Spectre. I plugged the inverter into the cigarette lighter in the truck and then the Spectre charger into the inverter.  Unfortunately, it didn't charge and worse now it won't charge when plugged in to normal house 120 volt.  It says "plugged in, not charging".  When it is plugged in it is not using battery power, but it won't charge the battery.  Suggestions on what could be wrong and how I might fix it?  Thanks.

Hello,

I got a new laptop about 3 weeks ago or so and just today I noticed that it was charging but stuck at 95%

I took the charger out let it drain down to 58% then put it back in again only to see that it's doing the exact same thing but now stuck on 58%

I then turned everything off, unplugged everything, took the battery out and help the power button for 30 seconds (I read somewhere this can work)...

...it did work and it charged all the way to 100%, but then after I took the charger out again and let it drain it's stuck again....same situation

I'm scared to drain the battery now

Even though the % isn't rising i'm still getting the full power from the battery as I've tested in very battery dependant programs and games, so It's not game breaking but just worrying as it could worsen.

Any help is appreciated thanks

p.s. I know It's win 8 I'm running on, but this forum seems to be better as more people use it, and I'm fairly sure it can't be windows 8 specific problem I've got?

A:Laptop charging but charge % staying the same?

does it charge while the laptop is off??
the reason I ask is because I beleivr your laptop charger is not outputting enough power to charge the battery whuke in use.

to charge say a 12v battery the charger would have to produce more than 12v (around 14 to 16v) as well as output a higher Mah rating than the amount used by the laptop... basically.. your charger is pooped!!

I would search their support forums looking for similar complaints. If you find a bunch perhaps it's a bad piece of hardware. I don't know your terms of purchase but I would guess there's a good chance you could make them take it back within 30 days. So I'd find out if there's some fault with that model before that time.

Hi, just found a strange bug: If you disable WiFi on a W540, and the airplane power mode kicks in, the machine no longer recognize any chrging adapters, neither from the bundled adapter, or from the docking (135W).If you re-enable the High Performance power option, charging is working again. This bug is present on all the W540 machines I have tested on here at our site. Have reported it to the local Lenovo support center as well. All our machines have Windows 8.1 with all the latest drivers.

Solved!
Go to Solution.

A:W540 charging bug - WiFi OFF = no charge

Airplane power mode means limiting the system to 65W of power from AC adapter, regardless of what AC adapter is actually attached.  This is to prevent overloading airplane circuit breaker.

W540 does not support 65W AC adapter - it's minimum power budget is around 100 Watts.  65W AC adapter can be used to charge W540 when it is sleep/hibernate/off, but 65W power adapter is essentially disabled while the system is turned on.

So this is the reason why airplane power mode causes W540 not to recognize any AC adapter, because airplane power mode limits AC adapter to 65W which W540 does not support.

The real question is why W540 ever enters airplane power mode which is not supported on this system due to power restriction.  So let me investigate this issue and get back to you later.

My Elephone P6000 heated up extremly around the USB port, and when I pulled out the cable, the core of the cable with the pins got separated from the shell of the head (Blitzwolf reversible cable). I let it cool down, but it won’t charge, altough I tried a bunch of different chargers. When I connect to a charger, I can fell a little heat around the USB, but the Ampere app doesn't detect any charging. If the charger has a led, the light even goes off when I connect the phone. The phone itself works perfectly, and I can charge the battery with an external charger. I only need to replace the charging board, or there could be other problems?

Hi,I have a Lenovo Z50-70 running Windows 8.1. The laptop is relatively new, bought in Jan. 2015.Some time ago, the original battery suddenly started to have a problem where it would say 45% available, plugged in, not charging. No matter what fixes I tried (after looking through a lot of articles, posts, comments, etc.), nothing made the battery start charging again. It always stays at 45%. Also the battery light/indicator on the front of the laptop is always blinking white. So I got a new battery, put it in hoping that it would work and charge up to 100%, but the new battery is having exactly the same problem as the original old one! It will only charge up to 45%, then it says plugged in not charging. The battery light is again always blinking white. What do I do? How can this be fixed? What's going on?Appreciate any help. Thank you very much.

A:Lenovo Z50-70 battery plugged in not charging, won't charge no matter what I do

Sounds like it may be either the charger or the charging port at fault here.  However, I have a couple of questions...1. Does the battery charge increase at all if you leave the machine turned off and plugged in, or does it still report 45%?2. Does it power on when only on battery power?3. Was the new battery a new, genuine Lenovo part? There seem to be a lot of people reporting similar issues with this model unfortunately.

Hi I just bought a refurbished HP Envy M6 laptop from PCWorld, and for some reason when I plug in the charger, the battery icon says 'plugged in, charging' however it has been stuck on 12% for over 3 hours now! The battery level on the icon increases at first (i.e. it goes up and down, showing it is charging) for about a minute, and then the icon stops moving at all.

When I got the laptop the battery level was about 35% and I used it at first without charging it until it got to 12%, and now its been stuck ever since.

I would be extremely grateful if someone could shed some light on this issue for me.

I would take it back to PCWorld however I bought it from the ebay outlet, and the only option they have given is either a full refund or a partial refund, however I would prefer to keep this laptop and get this issue sorted out.

Thanks

However, the battery doesn't lose charge while it's plugged in. It's like the computer is dependent upon the power cord and the battery is shot.  This is strange because I don't leave my laptop charging for long periods of time. Hi everyone,

My name is Tarun. I have been facing an issue with my newly purchased battery. I did not use my laptop for an year or so because my battery was dead and i didn't even remove that dead battery from the laptop, it was kept inserted for an year. A few days ago I purchased a new battery. When I turned on my laptop with the new battery and tried to charge it, I saw its charged percentage as 7%, I thought that it will be fully charged within an hour or so but it didn't. Although, when I hover the mouse on the battery icon ( right bottom under the tray ), it displays the message as 7% available (plugged in, CHARGING )....Please note, i wrote "charging".

To my surprise, percentage of "battery charging" never increases, I do not know what's wrong with it. Adapter works fine, windows runs fine, everything seems to be working fine.

I discussed with a naive person who repairs laptops. He wasnt sure of the fault but he guessed that that there could be a problem with charging IC. I didn't agree with him because of two reasons, 1st- he is a naive person, 2nd- If charging IC has a problem then it shouldn't have displayed the message " plugged in, CHARGING".

I am pretty much frsutrated and dissappointed. Could someone please help me and let me know what should be/ can be done?

thanks & regards
Tarun Bajpai

So, my issue that ive looked everywhere for a solution to is this.  I was about to give this laptop to someone and I reformatted the hard drive to clean it up before doing so.  After this I went to dells site and loaded up the drivers for this machine.  All is fine up till this point.  Then I updated the bios to the newest version a12, and all went fine.

Well, later that day I needed to unplug the laptop and go to a different room and It just turned off after I unplugged it.  It wouldnt turn on with battery power either.  Plugged it back in and it loads fine but the battery is stuck on 36 percent charge and says not charging.  Now im getting a message saying the battery needs to be replaced as well, which is *** because I know that the battery was working just fine before this day.  Not only that why wont a battery with 36 percent charge turn on the laptop?  Its got the flashing red battery symbol when powered on with the ac adapter but without the computer on, but still plugged in, the battery doesnt charge or have any lights.

I have already tried the uninstalling of the acpi trick, as well as the taking the battery out while its running, or taking it out purging the power and reseating.  Ive tried all the common tricks to no avail.  Not sure whats going on but I know this battery was good, and it still says 36 percent but wont charge and wont power the laptop on.  Hope someone can help.

Thanks Gary

A:DELL VOSTRO 3500 BATTERY ISSUE (not charging and wont power on computer with charge) HELP!

First check:  make sure the BIOS (F2 at powerup) recognizes the AC adapter.  If it does not, the battery will not charge.
If the AC adapter is not recognized, try another Dell OEM adapter.  If that doesn't solve the problem, replace the DC jack:
http://www.parts-people.com/index.php?action=item&id=9935
And if that doesn't solve the problem, replace the mainboard.
If the AC adapter IS recognized, but the battery will not charge, unplug the system, remove the battery and hold the power button for 30 sec.  Try again -- if the battery still won't charge, odds are the battery itself is bad.
If the battery is original to the system, it's about four years old - well past its expected lifespan.

Have you tried a battery diagnostic either in the UEFI diagnostics (F2 as you power on) or in the HP Support Assistant running from Windows? Stopping at 81% seems like it may be a dead power cell in the battery. Can we have the full model number of the laptop and an idea how old the battery is? Original?

Here is a solution that has worked in the past, so it's worth trying.

1. Turn off your laptop, unplug all wires, and remove the battery.

2. Hold the power button for thirty seconds.

3. Afterwards, reattach the battery and connections.

4. Boot the notebook up and see if the battery will charge now.

Let me know if that solution works for you or not. Best of luck!

Hi,

I hope somebody can help me. I have just purchased a new battery for my Fujitsu Amilo pi 3660 notebook.

I have tried so many times to charge it. I have fuilly discharged it and recharged it. I have installed and reinstalled drivers. No matter what I do, it stops charging at exactly 45%.

I know the battery is sound and the problem is a software issue. Does anyone know how to change this cap on the battery.

BTW The new battery has slightly, (very) more capacity. This has not been a problem in other laptops, but this Fujitsu certainly caps the charge at 45%

Please can anybody help. You have no idea the hours I have wasted trying to resolve it.

Many thanks Ceira.

A:New Battery stops charging at 45%

How much more capacity does it have? if it is around double the original capacity, then it's the BIOS that still thinks the battery is the old one. Try to go in BIOS options and see if you can change something, and try "resetting to factory defaults" (the bios, not windows 7).

Remove all system utilities that came preinstalled on that machine (those that could interfere with charging, like power utilities and assistants and whatnot, not programs like photoshop or whatever)

I installed a new battery today and the guy in the store said it wouldn't be fully charged. My computer booted up fine but they I got a warning that the battery was at 14%. I had the power cord plugged in so it should started charging but it didin't. I got my neighbors computer, similar model and I put my battery in his and it started charging so then I plugged in my power cord and it is still charging. So I know my battery is good and my power cable is good because they both work on his computer so there is something wrong with the connection where I plug it in or somewhere else in the computer. When you plug the power cord in the LED should light up but there is no light. Any ideas of anything I can check or do I have to take it in for repair?

Still nothing.  My laptop is one of the B&O line with a non-removable battery. Do I need to claim on the warranty and replace or is there an easy fix? ThanksWill

A:Hp Pavilion dv4 strange issue, not taking charge

The power jack connector on laptops are soldered (internally) to the motherboard. If the solder connection should break, power can't be delivered (internally) to power the battery or run the computer.

You might try it yourself (see here) if you're comfortable doing so or you'll need to take it to a repair shop

HI There,Ever since I upgraded from Windows 7 to 10 my HP Pavilion x360 has been a complete wreck. Including charging and sound issues. I've been able to resolve the sound issue by using device manager and uninstalling the drivers entirely. I have done the same for the charging problem but to no avail-restart after restart it refuses to charge. This 2-in-1 tablet/pc was purchased about a year ago. And has only had problems since the upgrade. I do not feel comfortable removing the battery as the batter on this particular model is actually enclosed in the casing. As I mentioned I've uninstalled the battery drivers from device managers a few times. Is there:1. A way to get the battery to take a charge without removing it (i.e. troubleshooting site)2. A way to roll they OS all the way back to Windows 7? I've tried rolling it back a few versions but I'm still in Windows 10. Thanks for your help!

This is another one that I'm not sure where to put, but here goes. This is on the same HP ENVY dv6, It does have a replacement power adapter, but it's the same specs as the original and my battery holds a GREAT charge. However, when I plug it in while I'm still using it, it will charge for a few minutes, then stop charging, and then start charging again. Is this normal?? Like I said, everything is working fine and My battery is working GREAT and I've had this laptop for about 9 months now. Could this be a safety feature in Win 8.1 or someting? I am just curious about this as I have never seen this before. Thanks in advance.

Thanks, Adam

The battery in my new G505s stops charging at 60%. Clean windows 8 then windows 8.1 install. The lenovo site has no power managament drivers for windows 8.1. Is this because windows 8.1 installed the lenovo app on its own? Because it is on the computer and i certainly didnt put it there. This happened after i upgraded from windows 8 to 8.1. It was 100% before the upgrade and 70% after. The lenovo energy management program has two settings. Maximum battery life and optimized battery health. No matter which is selected, charging stops at 60% and says plugged in not charging. I tried doing the battery gauge rested and it doesn't work. I press start and it does nothing. I drained the battery to 0 then charged it up but that didn't do anything. The dust removal button also doesn't work. On  side note, what graphics drivers is everyone using? i have the ones from lenovo installed. It looks like they were updated a few months ago. Would the generic AMD ones work better?

Hi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that your G505s Laptop battery is not getting charged above 60% after upgrading to Windows 8.1, I suggest you to install the LEM (Lenovo Energy Management) available for Windows 8.1 but while installing right click on the downloaded file and select ?Run as administrator? option. Below is the link to download the LEM:

I have had problems once or twice with my battery, but not for a long time. I installed Windows 7 a couple of days ago and twice today my battery stopped charging even though it was plugged in. The first time it said it was plugged in but not charging. The second time it said nothing. Both times, I rebooted and it resumed charging. So, I am suspicious that this is a software problem and not a hardware problem.

A:Battery Stops Charging in Windows 7

Is the battery fully charged? On my laptop, if my battery needs to be charged and I connect to A/C, it will charge and when it's full, the battery icon has an X over it. If my battery is good, and I'm connected to A/C (for instance, resuming from sleep), it shows fully charged with no X.

Hi, I have an older gateway laptop, with vista on it. The laptop says it charges fine, but once i power it up it makes somewhat of a screeching and a ringing noise, and stops charging. The laptop itself can be fully charged and die in soon to about 5 five minutes when unplugged, but that is usual. The main issue is, when the laptop is powerd down, its light that shows that it's chargine, or fully charged and plugged in, when i power the laptop, the charger just stops working, and does the screeching deal.

Hi, I'm having trouble with my laptop charging. It charges fine when it's turned off or in hibernation mode, but as soon as it's turned back on the indicator light goes off and it stops getting ac power. Once it's turned off again it starts to use ac power.

At first I thought the plug was loose in the back as it has had to fixed before but it seems to be perfectly fine when it's off. Could there be any software issues causing this? I checked the power settings and everything and didn't see anything that might be causing it.

It's running on windows xp home, that I reinstalled a few months ago. It was running fine until a couple weeks ago. Help?

I have an HP Pavilion 17-e067cl. The laptop just stopped charging. I inspected the dc power jack and found the ceramic that covers the center pins missing so I replaced. When I plug the charger in I do not get a charging light. I have checked the back of the connector the dc power jack plugs into and I am getting voltage. I also checked the batter terminals and I am getting voltage there as well. What can I check as the machine is currently dead and will not operate.

Had this problem before about two years ago and I can't remember how I resolved it.

My Compaq IPAC 3765 stops charging in cradle after Microsoft ActiveSync is complete (charge light stops blinking, "battery power remaining" shows 100%). When I disconnect it from the cradle it indicates only an 80% charge. Hence, charge is never full and I go halfway through my day when I get the "low battery" message.

I've disconnected the USB, rebooted and performed a soft set...nothing works.

Can anyone help me, please? Thanks, it would make my day!

A:Handheld stops charging after Sync is complete

If you have everything backed up in Outlook you could try a hard reset, then let the battery drain completely - charge on the cable first then back on the cradle.

My stock battery has worked great for me since I purchased the laptop in '12. One day the power light started blinking (the same timing that it blinks when you tap the power button to put it to sleep) and I realized my battery was low although the charger was plugged in.The problem has persisted where I am working and the light starts to blink/power supply halts. If I unplug the power supply and plug it back in, the problem is temporarily fixed and the computer will begin to charge, however after a random amount of time (could be 30 minutes, could be 30 seconds) the blinking will reappear and I have to unplug/replug again.I tried clearing the static with the "battery out/hold power button down for a minute" trick. It didnt seem to help.

Hi, i have an XPS 13 Developer Edition (so with Ubuntu 14.04), about 4 months old, probably a bit less, and suddenly i have this problem: as soon as the battery percentage reaches 83%, the status switches to "discharging", the led on the front turns off, and turns back on only as soon as a little percentage of battery gets consumed; this on-off cycle goes on and on, as the laptop thinks he is fully charged at 83%. I'm sure it's not just a wrong shown percentage problem, like it shows 83% but it's actually 100%, since the battery does last just exactly as it did with 80%, and not like 100%.
What can i do to solve this problem?
Thank you

Hi all, First of all, I absolutely love my ideapad y500. Ran it for over 2 years now. Received it as factory refurbished, from online seller. It used to ran all the programs, I am going to speak about, while plugged in. It seems that the increasing Windows updates seem to drain the potential of this battery/charger....I've even heard about motherboard issues. *EEK* Video rendering or editing will seem to stop my battery charging. The charger unplug, switch battery option, and then replug; will jog it to start charging. ONLY when I am not running such program will it jog. You can hear the laptop run pretty hard when it renders 40+ mins of video, and usually i will wait to get ~30%.. and exit program and let cool. Maybe mine is a fan issue.. i dunno. Computer games that requie just some use of the "DUAL nvidia GEOFORCE GT 600M" ..seem to just do the same thing as editing or rendering video.  All in all, I have heard much of this problem.. HEY! some people can't even get theres to charge at all. I can run my online searches and listen to music/// MOST of the time, key word most, I can stream video uninterupted. p.S. If any mod or tech support sees this and wants to help me up with maybe a couple solutions. MUCH appreciated friend.

This laptop stops charging when it enters hibernation mode when plugged into a USB-C hub/adapter. The only way to start charging is to 1) wake from sleep and then2) unplug then plug back in cable from hub If I plug charger cord directly in and the hub to a separate USB-C port then charging isn't a problem but the hub is completely shut down on wake from hibernation. So again I have to unplug hub and plug it back in again to get it to function. Also no usb device (keyboard/mouse) plugged into hub can wake laptop from hibernation. I've tried two hubs from two different manufacturer now and they both do the same thing. Laptop drivers are all updated. I tried another post asking if there are any hubs I can buy that doesn't exibit this flaw and got nothing so I assume this is the default behaivor. Is there anyway for me to get a working USB-C hub that doesn't require unplugging and plugging back in cables all day?

I typically keep my laptop plugged into AC power whenever I'm using it, and transport it in Sleep mode with the lid closed whenever I'm taking it on a trip.  The laptop is 4 years old and the battery isn't holding a charge as well as it used to, so it'll go from 100% down to ~50% when it's in Sleep for maybe a 6 hour trip.  I just moved to a new state and left it in Sleep mode in my laptop bag for more than 24 hours, which (presumably) took the battery down to 0%.  Now that I'm unpacking and back up and running, the indicator in the system tray constantly reads "plugged in, not charging" with 8% battery (but it was 9% yesterday).  However, the laptop powers off immediately whenever I unplug it from AC power, even with the lid closed in Sleep mode.  I've tried several different outlets and a spare charging cable but can't get the battery to start charging.  I know the battery is old and may need to be replaced, but I suspect that it could also be a software or sensor failure because the battery drained while it was in Sleep mode maybe?  I've tried a few other troubleshooting steps online (cleaning the battery contacts and reseating it, updating battery drivers, removing the battery from Device Manager and rebooting) but nothing's fixed it.  The laptop still runs fine on AC power with the battery removed.  Any ideas to try before I give a replacement battery a shot?

I have been have problems with my DV4000 charging, it would charge only if I connected a external monitor to it, it was using that circuit as it earth source, you only had to connect it with no power.
It turned out to be the AC adpter socket, there is a tiny micro switch inside the socket which is opened when the adpter is plugged in, in my case the switch was damaged and wasn't switching as it is surposed to.
The laptop was taken apart and the socket unsoldered and replaced with a new one, approx £15.
hope this is useful to you all, thanks also to Colin from : http://www.truestate.com/hprepair/ a really helpful genuine Guy.

A:Charging HP Pavilion DV4000

This is a very common problem with laptops in general. People first suspect and replace the AC adapter, then find out that the DC jack (in the US) is bad. Some of the DC jacks are on a separate cable, and some DC jacks are soldered onto the motherboards. I have a Toshiba Satellite with a soldered DC jack. This jack cost $42. The laptop has to be completely disassembled

Hi @vballsmithc , Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome.  I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion 360 Notebook and issues with the battery and charging. Here is a link to test and calibrate the battery. Plug the power adapter directly into a functioning wall outlet. Do not plug it into a power strip, surge protector, or secondary power source as this could cause and issue. Here is a link to troubleshoot the AC power adapter. Please let me know the outcome of these test. I hope this helps. Thanks.

I have a friends HP Pavilion DV4000 laptop, it has been dropped but there is no external physical damage, but it has stopped charging in the normal way.
When I was given the laptop it was completely dead, it had in fact run the battery completely flat, a fact that not forthcoming until I had stripped it down looking for any signs of obvious damage or broken connections etc. which I didn?t find.
I purchased another DV4000 off Ebay with a damaged screen, having used the hardrive from the original and connected to an external monitor everything worked fine including the charging, the battery now back to 100%.
The original laptop screen was reattached and all was fine picture perfect everything running as it should, almost.
The problem I have is that the AC adapter will only charge and run the laptop when an external monitor is connected to the VGA socket, disconnect and it reverts back to battery only, considering the screen and inverter are the only components used from the original I assumed that there may be a problem with the inverter, I found another screen assembly and replaced that, and the problem is still there.
I now have Two DV4000 laptop?s which I assume have the same fault, the hardrive & AC adapter are the only two components that are shared, both work very well apart from the need to connect them to an external monitor through the VGA socket in order to get them to run and charge the battery.

It appears after that connecting the monitor via the VGA socket is providing an Earth enabling charging to operate, the AC adapter socket has been tested OK.
It has been suggested that a chip on the VGA circuit board may have failed causing the previous strange behavior.

Hello, My U430T has suddenly stopped charging. Plugging in the charger doesn't do anything to the laptop. I have tried using a different wall power socket. I have also tried seperating and reconnecting the charging block and the end of the cable that connects into the laptop. In addition I have also tried powering down the laptop for about 10 minutes and removing the cable. I've also disabled conservative mode in Energy Manager. This isn't a case of 'plugged in, not charging' it doesn't even recognise it as being plugged it. This issue was not present earlier today and it was working fine with the charger. It is also the original charger that came with the laptop and has had no previous issues. I believe the last time it was working I pressed the power button to hibernate the laptop and then later removed the power cable. Upon turning it back on the laptop froze momontarily before working again. Upon inserting the power cable nothing appears to happen. Thanks in advance for any help.

I have a Mini-Notebook, NB500-108, running Windows 7, and it never had battery issues until now.
For some reason, battery stopped charging at 99%, then at 98% and now at 97%.
Tray icon says "plugged in, charging" but it never reaches 100%.

Besides that, the led light never changes from orange to green, like it used to do before.
That is annoying because I can't see if battery is totally charged when the machine is turned off.

I've already tried a lot of suggestions in order to recalibrate battery:
1. Flashing BIOS;
2. Uninstall/disable Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method in Device Manager;
3. Full discharge/full charge;
4. Half discharge/full charge;
5. Removed the battery and pressed power button for 10, 20, 30 seconds...;
6. System restore;
7. Same beahaviour with a Linux live pen.

None of this worked. Any comments on this, Toshiba Support?
Thank you in advance.

Toshiba Support? This is a user-to-user forum dude? you will get some comments from community members ;)

I think it could be a faulty battery?since lithium batteries would start losing the own performance after being charged for 400-500 times, I would assume that your battery is affected? it?s just a theory but I think it?s worth to test a new part

I work for a computer shop, and we've had one customer with this model laptop/tablet that's had completely unpredictable charging issues practically since day one. We've been through the system numerous times, even replaced both the battery and the logic board, but STILL cannot predict whether it'll charge at any given time or not. So far, the only thing that's generally gotten it to charge again is to do a forced power off/restart, when it happens to have enough charge to do so anyways. Instinct tells me the power management driver has some sort of fault across this line of laptop, since full blown logic board AND battery replacement didn't even resolve the issue. All system drivers are fully up to date, and multiple technicians have looked this device over, we're wondering if this is some known issue and how to possibly resolve it. There is no evidence of any hardware damage, everything suggests this is somehow software/driver/firmware related.

Since a few days, I am having a problem with the battery of my notebook. I have my notebook plugged in, but it won't charge. When pointing the battery icon in the system tray, it says: 10% available, plugged in, not charging.

It started of a few weeks ago when the notifications for low battery stopped appearing (where it normally did so at 14% and 9%). This was not a major issue for me, however I looked around at the forums and I couldn't fix it with the advice here. This also goes for this newer issue. I tried uninstalling the drivers for the battery, removing the battery from my laptop, restarting Windows and reinstalling the battery, in different orders, none of which do the job.

There's no damage to the battery.
When I remove it from the laptop, I can work using the power cord.

I did a battery check with the HP support assistance, and it says I need to purchase a new battery. But I can't really accept that: it can't be that it stops working so suddenly. The battery had an outstandinlgy good lifetime up until a few days ago. I don't want to pay for something that still has a lot of potential to be functioning well.

Please help me on this one.

A:HP Pavilion G7 - battery plugged in, not charging

Hi @Lewistrick  Thank you for your query.  I grasp that until a few days ago your battery was working well but now it will not charge. My HP Pavilion x360 2 in 1 (brought in February this year) is plugged in but not charging. I can't remove the battery without opening the back panel which I don't want to do. It's plugged directly into  the wall socket with the cable provided with the notebook when it was purchased. Please advise on how to fix the problem. Many thanks

Hello Everyone, I have a "HP Pavilion 15 Notebook PC" with Windows 8.1 and is almost two years old.  A few months ago I had my laptop on my lap and it randomly turned off, after turning it back on it did not charge above around 84%.  Every now and then I would plug it in to charge and it would say "plugged in, not charging" so I fixed the issue by turning it off, taking the battery out, turning it on, uninstalling  Microsoft ACPI-Control Compliant Method Battery, turning it off, putting the battery in, turning it back on, and the ACPI-CCMB would update and it charged back up to around 84%. As of about a week ago, that stopped working. I've tried updating the ACPI-CCMB, doing the above multiple times, and nothing works. I noticed the recommendation for the HP battery utility but 1) that didn't work in the past when it wouldn't fully charge and 2) the computer has a 0 percent charge and will not hold a charge, so in the step where it says to turn it on unplugged, my computer won't turn on. After trying to use the HP battery utility a few things happened. 1) I have to mash the escape button in order to access the menu, pressing it when the logo appears like it says does nothing. 2) When I tried to run the battery test, it said 2 minutes remaining and 1% complete before freezing the computer up and after pressing the power button it instantly turned off. I don't know if I need to get a new battery or if I just need to try something I haven't hea... I Have had my HP for just over 6 months and all of a sudden i noticed that the battery wasn't charging. It is plugged in and when i hover over the battery it says 'plugged in, charging' but it isn't charging at all. If i turn it off and leave it for a while it will charge to about 8% and then it just stops. i really need my tablet and would really appreciate any help, I am aware that it is under warranty however if there is a possibilty it could be sorted without sending it away then i would really apprecated that.  Thank you in advance.

I had this laptop for about two years then suddenly it stopped charging. The battery is saying plugged in, not charging and is at 11%. If i plug out the ac adapter the laptop will instantly shut off. The only thing is that the laptop fell of the bed about 50 cm tall, this happened 4 months before laptop stopped charging. Also the orange led charging light is constantly blinking.

This laptop is brand new. The past few days, when I plug it in to charge, i get a messae over the battery icon saying "pluged in, not charging". I have read that this is in fact a software issue dealing with Windows 10 and I have tried multiple times to imlement solutions involving the Device Manager. The only thing I haven't tried is actually removing the battery because I do not think this particular HP model can be have its battery removed by the user. I would really rather not have to exchange laptops especially if it is a Windows problem, is there any way you can help?

Hi, I have just purchased a brand new laptop (HP Pavilion 15-an001na).  However I can not charge it.  i can only use it with the AC adaptor plugged into it. At the bottom of the screen it says 'charger plugged in but not charging' This is really inconvientant, has anyone came across this issue before? And/or has a solution? Regards, Chris

I've been having this problem since recently after I got the laptop over a year ago. Whenever my laptop is plugged in and under a heavy load (Videos, Games, and anything else that puts stress on the computer) It will either reboot suddenly (Instantly go black and restart) or freeze with colored bars on the screen (Multicolored, usually cyan yellow and magenta). I looked in the error log and found this. This is the error that happens every time.

A:HP Pavilion g4 reboots when charging and under heavy load.

The freezing with colored bars is your biggest clue.

It is probably the GPU (Video Card), go to the manufactures website and look to see if there are any driver updates for the machine.

You said this started recently, Have you done updates lately, maybe the driver update is corrupt, try rolling back the video driver

A:plugged in not charging HP Pavilion g4-2212tu Notebook PC

Hi Lordofcyberpunk, Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read your thread on your HP Pavilion g4-2212tu Notebook and battery not charging. Plug the power adapter directly into a functioning wall outlet and into the computer. Do not plug it into a power strip, surge protector, or secondary power source. Here is a link to test and calibrate the battery. Here is a link to test the ac adapter. You can utilize this website to learn how to contact HP if needed, based on your region: Contact HP Worldwide Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns. Thanks.

My relative spilled some tea on his laptop. Unfortunately, the darn thing won't accept the AC Adapter. It will turn white, than orange.. and just sit there without actually charging or powering anything.

It says it's there, but it's not. It won't charge and when you remove the battery while it's running, it looses power.

I opened it up and found that area was rather corroded. I cleaned the area with 91% alcohol, but the damage was already done and the only fix I can find is replacing the motherboard. The entire system runs perfectly fine except that darn area.

Is there a way to bypass the charging circuit and deliver the proper voltage directly via the battery connector? or.. is there a way to modify the battery so it'll charge from an external source?

He doesn't really care as long as I can get his laptop working again without spending the cost of the laptop to fix it. I was thinking a battery pack that connected normally that has an external connector for a charger.

Hi,I bought an HP Pavilion G6 notebook only a couple of months ago, and I have had this problem from the beginning. I have looked at some other forums and it seems like a lot of people have had the same problem with the laptop being plugged in, but not charging. This problem is really frustrating, as the laptop is plugged in to the power source, and into the laptop, but half the time it isn't even registered as being plugged in. The battery gets drained. Once or twice the battery has fully run out (whilst plugged in) and then been charged to 100% next time it was turned on(???!!!!).Please tell me if this is some kind of programming or software fault, or if it could be a hardware fault. I have run the battery checker several times and each time it has not found any problems with it. As the laptop sometimes recognises that it is in fact plugged in (but doesn't charge) I personally suspect that it is not a problem with the power adapter.PLEASE HELP ME!Thanks.(Sorry for the long message)

Hi, You can help us help you by posting the following information. 1.  The full Model No. and Product No. of the notebook - see This HP web documentif you are not sure that you how to locate the model number and\or product number. 2.  The complete version and name of the operating system you are using ( ie Windows 7 64bit ). Go into the Device Manager. (type device in the search programs and files box and click on device manager as seen in the following image) Expand the Batteries device. Right-click on the Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery and select uninstall. Do the same thing with the Microsoft AC Adapter device.    After you have uninstalled both devices ,then you can right-click on any of the devices in the Device Manager and select  and click on scan for hardware changes.  When you have done that, the operating system will reinstall the drivers for both devices.
