CPU fan failed and PC would not boot except to "fan failure" message. Fan has been replaced, but now constantly getting blue screen error BSOD, which reads "WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR" and sometimes other errors. Windows tries to boot into recovery but BSODs again and again. What I've tried:  1) Reset BIOS to defaults. DONE - same behavior after reset to BIOS defaults.  2) Tried booting from USB drives (several) using Linux recovery tools (Kaspersky, Ubuntu Live, etc.). KERNEL PANIC, etc.  3) Downloaded BIOS update from HP and created BIOS update USB. Rebooted with USB key (I turned off secure boot, etc. to allow USB booting.) - NOTHING. I tried this both allowing BIOS to run untouched  and by going into BIOS options (pressing ESC @ boot up) - no options anywhere to read/update BIOS. According to an HP Support doc, I tried updating the BIOS from w/in "HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI". The version on this PC is version 5.2.2.0:  I see no option to update UEFI (Flash BIOS). Options read as follows: System Information, System Tests, Component Tests, Test Logs, Language, Exit.  What do I try next, please? BIOS: JA2 v80.35CPU: AMD A8-6500RAM: 8GB DDR3, single DIMM in slot 4.     NOTE: System came w/ RAM in slot 4. Doesn't POST if RAM DIMM is in slot #1. Is this normal?

Hi @ARtan-Krasniqi? Welcome to the HP Support forum. Thank you for posting ! Folio is a lovely business class notebook. Most business class notebooks (including yours, Elitebook and Probook, etc...) have better security than consumer class computers. You will have to contact HP Support for business for assistance on removing the password. Here is how >> http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-phone-assist.html>> http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/business-support.html  HP Business support should be able to send you a customised SMC.bin file and instructions which you can use  to reset the password.  Hope this helps. I am the owner of a used Elitebook Folio 9470m laptop that I procured from my friend. It is very lightweight laptop, and I really love it.Unfortunately, the laptop came with admin password on the BIOS. I already contacted him, and he has no idea what it is. This was his father laptop, and he also has no idea about it. So, I'm left here with this laptop, but no way to tinker around with the BIOS. Obviously this isn't good! All sources lead me to this area where can I contact HP support to try to solve my problem.  I opened up two cases.  First one, case ID 4779632926 and did not get response. Second, 4779725521 and this is response i got. " I  really apologize for the inconvenience, unfortunately we will not be able to support this case."  I tried to reply to this case with subject <4779725521> and then I received message that case is closed. We are sorry, but we were unable to process your request.

The Case with ID "4779725521" is closed or does not exist and cannot be updated. PLS if there is any chance to solve this, let me know.  I can provide any information you need. Thank you.

Hello @OskarB98? Welcome to the HP Support forum. I am afraid that there is no other options other than HP Support for business. Most business class notebooks (including yours Elitebook and Probook) have better security. Quick question. I have a Z77-D3H motherboard. I have been having crashes, mostly when playing BF4 and when the game starts up. When I mean crashes, I am talking about a hard shutdown and reboot. I did a memtest-no issues. PSU is relatively new. I was just playing around in BIOS tonight and saw that my OS was set to "Other OS"-I then selected Windows 8 option and I have been playing bf4 without it crashing. Literally I didn't have that option set when I first came home from work and it crashed on me 3 times in a row without even getting into the game.

I never heard of this before or else I would have looked in there...could that have been causing crashes?

System is I73770K
16 GB Ram
GTX 660 graphics card
Windows 8.1.

How do I get windows update to show "other microsoft products" as a checkbox option in the control panel? I've tried the opt-in screen when you first start Office on a fresh install and it didn't work. I also downloaded the latest Win7 Update Agent. That didn't work also...

A:How to get office updates as windows update option?

What version of Office are you using?. If you are using Office 2013 updates do not show in the usual Windows Updates at all. Office 2013 updates occur automatically in the background. You can set Updates by opening one of the Office applications, select File & then select Office Account & you will see a box saying Office Updates click on that & drop down menu will show some Update alternatives & you can get it to Update Now if you wish to see if you are up to date. See attached screen shot.

You can check in Control Panel, Programs & Features, Microsoft Office 2013 to see when the last update version was installed & it series number.

I'm currently on Windows 7 x64 Pro. For a while now, I've had windows update set to only get the update list and then let me choose when and what to install. Today I opened the program to do a check of new updates and download / install them, but I'm presented only with the option to upgrade to windows 10. The problem is that I don't want to install Windows 10.

The problem is that I've read many at best marginal reports (as well a many scathing condemnations) of user experiences with Win 10 and have decided that I don't want to take the upgrade at this time. That said, it seems MS is intent on preventing me from even attempting to install Win 7 updates because there doesn't appear to be a way to begin installing them. The are available to select for download under the available updates page, but selecting them and pressing 'Ok' simply takes me back to the main screen with only the option to begin my upgrade process and no option to download / install the selected updates.

Is there any way around this, or am I really only presented with the option of running an insecure machine or updating to Win 10?

Thanks

PS: I have to say for the record that being pressured to make the upgrade to the point that MS seems to be forcing it through without giving me the option to decide for myself doesn't really give me the warm fuzzies about upgrading at all...

A:Windows update only offers the option to start downloading windows 10

Allow me to make several subjective comments. First, although, you have heard many negative comments about Windows 10, I have used the OS, since the release and am more than happy with its performance. I have experience with Windows 98, Vista and Seven and now 10 and 10 is the best by far. Since this is only one man's opinion allow me to discuss the updates.
If you have not already given it a try, hide, the problem update. When you see it just right click and then indicate hide. The effect will be as though it was never there.
If you facts, are as you state, I would agree that you have every right to be unhappy with the circumstances.

Hi Guys,

I have a REAL newbie question. I?ve tried reading a bunch of tutorials, but they?re a little over my head. I think my question is pretty basic, but after a couple hours research, hopefully someone here would be kind enough to help.

I have an M2A-VM motherboard and my system keeps freezing up, no input from keyboard or mouse, no ctl-alt-del, nothing. It freezes intermittently, but never goes more than 3 hours without freezing, sometimes freezes in a few seconds, with 5 ? 10 minutes being the average time it works before freezing. Seems to freeze more (often immediately) when I?m using the mouse than any other time, but it will freeze on it?s own, just idling, if you give it enough time.

I?ve read a few things including updating bios and downloading the latest motherboard drivers. My problem starts when I go to download the mobo drivers from this page:

ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Support-

It lists 41 driver updates there for my motherboard:

41 files found

Qualified Vendor List (1)

BIOS (20) [BIOS History]

BIOS-Utilities (1)

Chipset (1)

AUDIO (1)

LAN (1)

Utilities (2)

Manual (14)

And apparently I?m ?missing? these Windows Updates:

Q934062 - Important
Q936960 - Important
Q950130 - Critical
Q951550 - Important
Q951944 - Important
Q973923 - Moderate

Question #1: Do I download all 41?? Surely my machine can?t need 41 updates? How do I know which ones to download and install?

Question #2: ... Read more

A:Windows Update INCLUDES Motherboard Drivers and BIOS Update on M2A-VM?

I have the same board on another pc.

You only need to download and install only that which would make your setup current.

You really only need to update the bios if you will be moving up to a newer processor that is not currently supported by the current bios or if the newer bios fixes a known problem.

You need the latest motherboard chipset driver. (I would install this first if you haven't already)

You need the latest LAN driver.

The audio driver you can either download from Asus or from RealTek.

I am running Windows 8, and do not have any need to install Windows 8.1

It used to ask if I wanted to update on occasion, then it started asking every 2 days... Which I found incredibly annoying that there wasn't a "don't ask me again" option.

Now.. things have gotten worse, now the only options are to say that you want to install the update, with the only choices being if you want to install now, in 1 hour, 2 hours, of 4 hours..

Today I was playing DayZ, a survival game where I try to live for as long as possible, although I've never made it to a month.. and the nag screen came back.

I was not able to tab out of the nag screen to get back into my game, I have task manager set to be always on top, but the nag screen was over it and I was not able to close it.. I couldn't even shut down and had to resort to pushing the power button to get back into my computer without installing 8.1.

How can I stop Windows 8.1 from trying to force me to install it?

EDIT: even if I power off, after a few minutes it just keeps coming back, that computer is unusable at this point. Please help!

UPDATE: I've hooked up a second monitor and set task manager to appear there, now I've found the task "windowsstorepopupbox" or something like that name to stop the nag screen. I might try to use Comodo HIPS to block this from starting..

A:Windows 8.1 update hijacking my computer, no option to decline the install?

Windows 8 major updates are no different to Service Packs in previous versions of Windows. It's essential for maintaining security to continue the update sequence, or you end up running a system that is vulnerable to exploits.

Microsoft explains it thus:

"We strongly recommend that you install Windows 8.1 Update or Windows RT 8.1 Update (KB 2919355). This is a critical update that is required for future updates to Windows. If you prevent it from installing or you uninstall it, you won’t get future bug fixes, security updates, and new features..."

Hello to the BleepingComputer community,First of all I'm sorry I haven't finished some of the steps from the Preparation Guide. It's because these steps require a reboot (e.g. Step 6: Disable your CD Emulation Software - DeFogger will ask me to reboot the machine), and I have a bad feeling about the question if it is safe to reboot in my situation: I'm not sure if I have a type of malware which is ready to infect the BIOS - if it is so, then it could infect it much easier during the reboot process.- If there is a good way to find out what is the problem (and fix the BIOS threat part if it really is present) without rebooting / shutting down this PC, or at least without booting from this hard drive (which I feel is probably infected), then please tell me what should I do.- If you know a place / forum where I can get a specialized help for this (seemingly BIOS-malware related) situation, please tell me where I could go.- If there is no way to move forward, I'll go ahead and risk the reboot, and follow the other steps (steps 6 to 10) in the Preparation Guide, no problem.I kindly ask you to please read below the details of the problem as it occured to me, and the things I have tried so far.The PC is AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core BE-2350 2.1GHz, Motherboard Biostar TA690G AM2 (with AWARD BIOS), 4GB RAM, 200GB SATA HDD, and an ASUS EAH4870 card added a few years ago. It's with WinXP SP3, AVG Free 2012, (standard) Windows Firewall, and it's behind a router.I ... My Samsung series 3 laptop has been sending out popup messages telling me I need a bios update, I go to the Samsung software update site and this bios update has been failing, I have made several calls and chats to techs at Samsung who tell me to do what I have already done, they tell to ask for tier 2 tech, who can go in my computer and fix it , When I finally got a tier 2 tech, they told me the same thing, I told him what I had been told about him and what he could do, He said, is it working , I said yes, but settings on computer change on their own, like wifi turns itself on and that concerns me. Anyway, He said that it didn't need a bios update, even the Samsung website said this computer needed a bios update. I posted this on hardware, firmware concerns, and they told me to post here, I was going to go to a site ,that had a download that checked drivers, I was told to stay away from this.

I have just made a set of HP Recovery discs for my new HP Folio 13 installed with W7-64 bit. I used Nashua DVD+Rs. Before doing anything further with the computer I thought it would be a good idea to test the discs. I changed the boot order in the BIOS placing the (USB) DVD drive ahead of the SSD. It seemed to be working until, "You are not able to restore this system with the media" appeared. Nothing else, only this line. The notebook is brand new and has only Lightroom 2.7 installed. No changes have been made. I have noticed on the forums a number of people have experienced similar problems, but there don't seem to be any resolutions. Is it possible that the disc type is not supported, even though the software allowed the discs to be made? Is there anybody out there who knows what is happening her?       graham

A:EliteBook Folio 1040 G1 - Mouse Pad not working in Windows 7...

Although if could be a h/w issue, you mention the touchpad works within the BIOS to point around the menus. I would encourage you to run HP SDM (www.hp.com/go/sdm) and update all hardware drivers and BIOS (BIOS needs to be done by itself). That should help with your issue.  Do not install any other software suggested by SDM unless you know you use that particular tool

Hello, I have updated my HP Elite 8200 CMT from windows 7 to windows 10. In the HP driver download page, there is no BIOS update for windows 10. But I have noticed that there is BIOS update for Windows 7.  The question is, may I use it on Windows 10 ?  And in general, are BIOS updates OS dependant ?

A:Bios update after update to Windows 10

Hi: You can pull the DOS based flash file folder out of the BIOS package, copy just the contents of the DOS flash folder to a USB flash drive formatted with the FAT file system. Plug the flash drive in a usb port, restart the PC, tap the ESC key to get the menu of options. Select the F10 System setup option to gain access to the BIOS. Select the File menu>Flash system ROM command.  Select the USB flash drive. The PC will see the files on the flash drive.  Follow the on screen prompts to update the BIOS. That way it makes no difference what operating system you are running. One very important note...I have read the installing the latest BIOS 2.29 causes issues with W10. There is a forum post regarding that... http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/HP-Compaq-8200-Elit...I am running v2.28 on my HP 8200 Elite CMT, and have no issues at all on W10. I read that post and decided not to update the BIOS to v2.29.

Hello, After upgrading from Win7 to Win10, my system got stuck when uninstalling MS Office, and nothing worked anymore (File Explorer etc.). I tried to make a factory reset, which got stuck, too, and no OS would be detected anymore. Then I tried to reinstall Win10 64 bit, which brought be a bit of trouble. I have an HP Folio 9470 with a 320 HDD and a 32 GB (I believe) mSATA. During my Win10 reinstall, I ran into trouble and then deleted all partitions on both drives and reformatted everything because I thought that was the method for a clean reinstall. First, I installed Win10 on the 320 HDD, but my BIOS did not appear to allow this (although harddisk was in the legacy boot options), which the Win10 installer had already warned me about, so I could not boot from my HDD and thus could not start Win10. Next, I reformatted everything and installed Win10 on my mSATA. However, the Win10 installer and later Windows 10 only showed a size of 11GB for the mSATA. The installation itself already took up 11GB and there was no space left for necessary drivers and updates, and Windows 10 malfunctioned. My feeling is that the mSATA was larger than just 11GB, but that a part of it is not shown any more after deleting partitions and reformatting. After multiple reinstalls, I do not know what to do any more. Any idea what how I might get a functioning version of Windows 10 on my HP Folio 9470m? Best regardsFrank

Hello all:
Here is a good one. I have an HP Elitebook Folio 9470m Ultrabook downgraded to windows 7 Pro. from 8 pro. Sound worked great when first set up. Sales person went overseas with it and sound stopped working. Headphone jack looks and feels ok, not loose, snaps in at right places. Icon on desktop shows speaker with red x. Hover shows No speakers or audio device plugged in.

Uninstalled audio drivers from device manager and rebooted. (did not remove drivers at this run). no change.

Downloading windows 7 drivers from HP for this device using serial number listed under battery results in setup program for audio saying "The hardware detected is not supported by this IDT Software package"

Downloading Windows Vista and Windows 8 drivers from HP.com has same results.

Uninstalling drivers for audio AND deleting drivers then rebooting. Same results.

Motherboard issue?

Restore point to earliest saved point has same results.

SFC Scannow shows no issues.

I will be setting up a usb with Linux mint to test hardware this afternoon.

A:HP Folio 9470 Windows 7 says No Audio Device plugged in, No Sound

Well after much research and calls to both Reseller and HP it has been determined that it is an unknown issue.
Will be sending it back for warranty.

Hi,

There are 2 options in the BIOS for my laptop fan:

Silent and Normal.

Right now, it is running under option 1 - "Silent".

This may well be the reason why I don't hear any sound of the fan (unlike my other laptop that has a relatively noisy fan coming ON and OFF from time to time).

Do I need to switch to "Normal" mode?

Will there be any problem in the long run if I stay with the existing setting?

The touchpad area and its vicinity are sometimes hot (not too much though) under the current setting. Has this anything to do with that BIOS option for the fan?

Plz advice.

Regards

Hi again,
I have a question how to update BIOS on Win7 x64 ultimate. I downloaded newest version of BIOS for my laptop (Toshiba Tecra A8-185 PTA83E). After unzipping there is only .exe file. When I try to run that file it says, that my OS is unsupported. When I run it in compability mode (with Vista or XP) it starts upgrading, but gives me an error: " BIOS upgrade is failure (8). BIOS is not able on that configuration." What should I do? I really need new BIOS. Can I run it during boot from USB drive or whatsoever?

A:BIOS Update in Windows 7

You shouldn't attempt to reflash the BIOS from within Windows... it's a process that will either prove impossible, or at best unsafe (hardware dependant) - what you need to do is whack the BIN file onto a USB stick (best to use a sub 2Gb stick) and load it during boot up according to Toshibas instructions for your machine.

The day after I updated my BIOS... I don't know the name of my previous BIOS... But as of the moments it's Insyde F.16 and the logging in to my pc is now taking longer than the usual. My Google Chrome kept on malfunctioning as well as my Spotify. It was lagging & it wasn't working very smoothly and efficiently like before the update. I'm worried that this is because of the update. And btw, is this the latest version of the BIOS on Windows 10? Does everyone have the same BIOS as me (f.16) ??? Thank you for replying.

A:no bios update for windows 7?

Do not install any vista driver until unless you are left with no option. In most cases Win 7 automatically finds all the drivers, if it does not you can check for Win update and it should include any driver that was missing. Usually the track pad will not have scrolling after a fresh install but that was taken care of after the first windows update that I did manually minutes after the install. You function key might also give you some problem if it handles some functions not usually found on US keyboards. In that case you'll have to write to HP. This said, there is no need to worry, as most of the drivers will be found within Win 7.

A:BIOS UPDATE for Windows 10

Your original OS was WIN 7, with BIOS 7.16 circa Jan 1012.  There is NO supported BIOS update that would allow UEFI, and that is where all such inquiries really imply.  Your only solution is a hybrid OS GPU card.  It would allow Legacy and UEFI when you have such a motherboard in your next system. Both MSI and Shappire offers such cards. I'd offer the links, but it seems to be broken right now.

I purchased an ACER V3-372-57CW and the computer refuses to boot (the green ACER splash screen at EFI boot won't even show) when my (otherwise fully functional) WACOM Intuos 4 tablet is plugged in into any USB port. Acer customer care refused to acknoledge nor register the issue so my last hope is that a BIOS update will solve the problem. I'm used to manufacturers providing DOS executable flash utilities for running under FreeDOS etc. but for the Acer V3-372, I can only find a Windows 10 Executable. Obviously, uninstalling the whole system just for updating the BIOS is not a viable option. Is it possible to obtain either a DOS executable for the BIOS update or something which could be used from within Linux (with EFI)? Thank you

A:BIOS update for windows 10

Iced42 There's no need to be rude! There are no HP Win10 drivers for your PC so, when you did the update, what you got were MS drivers -- which only provide basic functionality. You can't find Win10 BIOS updates because HP does not certify your PC for Win10 and, therefore, has not produced any Win10 BIOS updates. HP has not published any schedule for when, or if, they will be  producing BIOS updates for the older machines.

I have noticed that my computer (and many others) have an option called "PCI-LAN" or similar in the BIOS boot menu (when I press F8 I get the option to choose boot device, HDD, CD, USB and PCI-LAN).

I'm just curious, what is this for, and how could I use it?

A:LAN boot option in BIOS

Not sure about PCI-LAN, sounds like a NIC.
Are you referring to PXE booting?
That is where you set up an image on a server that people can boot from without having the OS actually on their hard drive.

iBUYPOWER Gamer WA563R7 Black Desktop PC with AMD Six-Core FX-6300 Vishera Processor, 8GB Memory, 1TB Hard Drive

It has an MSI motherboard 760GMA-P34 (FX)

I started it up, went through all the prompts to install windows 8.1. Got it to the desktop, installed VLC, started downloading a game, watched a movie from my portable drive.. everything was working perfectly. After installing AVG Free, it asked me to reboot, so I did.

The computer goes thru all the startup until it gets to the windows logo, then it just freezes. Occasionally it will display the same logo, and underneath it will say something like "starting automatic repairs" and then will stay frozen on that screen.

I am assuming this is an OS issue, so I want to re-install the OS. To do that, I need to access the boot menu, or the BIOS. Basically right now I am trying to gain access to ANY menu.

The motherboard manual says press DEL to enter bios. I spam the del key and it still goes to the frozen windows logo.

I spam ALL the function keys, and still it just goes to the frozen windows logo.

I opened the case, checked all the connections. I unplugged the connections and plugged them back in. I made sure the DVD and hard drives were plugged in the correct places on the motherboard.

I have two options (CSM) or (UEFI) in my Toshiba Laptop BIOS. When I select UEFI the computer will not boot. I tried to get Toshiba's tech support to explain this to me but besides not speaking english I did not get a clear answer.

If anyone has the time and knowledge to explain this option and it's uses in simple terms I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank You

A:UEFI BIOS Option

When CSM (Compatibility Support Module) is enabled it allows a modern EFI based PC to operate in a Legacy BIOS mode.

This allows for your operating system to be installed and run from a traditional MBR (Master Boot Record) disk and the advanced features of the EFI system are disabled.

Switching to UEFI mode enables the EFI system. UEFI PCs usually use the GPT file table, which includes a hidden SYSTEM partition and a Windows SYSTEM RESERVED partition.

I am assuming that what you meant to say is that with UEFI enabled Windows will not start, not that the PC will not boot. (If the PC did not boot you could not get into the BIOS settings to change it back.)

I believe that this is because Windows was installed in legacy BIOS mode. I believe that to run in UEFI mode you would need to reinstall Windows or make some alterations to the startup process. I do not know if Startup Repair would help in this case. Perhaps someone else here will know this and comment.

These systems are relatively new. I do not own one yet, so I have not had the opportunity to play with one to get hands on experience. What I know is what I've read.

I also tried holding the Windows + B and power button that doesn't seem to do anything either, but the capslock LED turns on and stays on until I try to turn the machine on again, not sure why. Before I explain my dilemma let me say that I know i have an old cpu and motherboard, but I just need to keep it going for a bit longer.

Bios = Phoenix awards 6/2/2006
My current motherboard is an ecs c51gm-m am2 and the cpu is amd 64 x 2 3800+. I upgraded to Windows 7 and I didn't have any bios problems. According to the ecs documentation on their website the bios only supports up to windows xp amd 64 x 2.

I have an amd 64 x 2 6000+ am2 cpu lying around so I thought I could just swap out the cpu's, but before doing so I needed to update the bios. According to the documentation, the updated bios from 05/03/2008 would recognize the faster cpu. As far as os's were concerned windows 7 was not an option. So that's my dilemma. A few weeks ago, I ran some Microsoft Patch Tuesday updates on my Thinkpad T400S (which at the time ran Windows 10, having been upgraded about 8-9 months previously online from Win 7) and shut it down. When I rebooted, I received a message that it couldn't find a bootable device. It went into the Troubleshooting options, then I chose Reset this PC. It returned a message that the hard drive was "locked." I then tried Advanced Options, Startup Repair first. It said tht Startup Repair couldn't fix the PC. Neither could it find an older build. I went to the command prompt and was taken to an x: drive. When I tried to reach C:, the message said it couldn't find the drive specified. I then rebooted into the BIOS and ran HDD Diagnostics. Much to my surprised, it passed with flying colors,  but still wouldn't boot Win 10. I tried to reinstall Win 7 with the factory recovery disks, but they failed to touch the hard disk. I received messages in quick succession to insert the next CD and in the end got a message that the recovery.ini file couldn't be found. My next step was to take it into the office and install Windows 10 via USB, again surprisingly with success. However, it blew up again after a couple of days. I then reinstalled and went to http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/migr-70351 , downloaded the 7uuj49uc.iso file and burned a bootable CD to update the registry. I tried to update the BIOS from our Latitude E5450 systems from A12 to A13 with a command line, distributed by our SCCM, but it does not install the BIOS, though I get a 'succeeded'  return message.
On shutdown and a boot later on, it still says 'A12'.When trying to do a reboot aftwerwards, still no effect. On immediate* reboot after the Install, it installs the 'A13' update.(*immediately: being the first shutdown/reboot action after the BIOS installation)
I though it could be a Windows 10 'fastboot' issue so I disabled that option, but still, when choosing 'shut down' after the succesfull BIOS update, it does not update the BIOS on the next boot.

No you wouldn't. But, as you say, there has to be a good reason for updating the Bios and it won't be of any benefit unless there is an existing problem that you are quite certain is going to be fixed with a Bios update. If the update goes wrong it can completely trash your system, so be sure you need to do it before going ahead.

I wasn't facing one before I updated. Everything was going smoothly but I saw in the HP Support Assistant that I have numerous things to update so I clicked it all & updated. When the BIOS finished installing the computer restarted and I continued updating the others (which included the BIOS internal) but in the middle of the update, I stopped it. And it said it's not applicable anymore. I clicked to update again & the other 3 (there was 4 of them including the BIOS internal) updated succesfully. I even contacted support at that same night to let them do the manual update to give me a peace of mind. The technician said I updated it correctly. But what I read on everyp site on the internet that not to update the BIOS. So I am worrying & scared right now because my laptop might encounter problems that weren't there before the update. I have an HP Pavilion g6 Notebook PC which was originally running Windows 7 (64 bit) and has an AMD processor. I upgraded to Windows 10 (64 bit) from Windows 7 back in April and all seemed fine for about a month but after that I've been getting blue screens of death several times a day with different errors each time. I have checked the BIOS on my machine and it's 'Insyde F.6A, 5/7/2013'. I checked on the HP website and the most up to date BIOS that I could see for the HP Pavilion g6 series was 'F.29, June 17, 2014 (filename sp66880.exe)' which is a more up to date version than I currently have.  However, it doesn't mention anything about the 2014 version of the BIOS being compatible with Windows 10, it only mentions that it is compatible with Windows 7 and 8. If I go ahead and upgrade to this version is it likely to improve things or make them worse? I am concerned that it might make the laptop completely unusable if I upgrade, and not be able to recover it. Would it be possible to roll back to the earlier BIOS version if this happened?

I am in a pickle guys. Windows 7 will not start after flashing bios update twice. 1st time through windows 7 and 2nd time through bios. I flashed the latest bios for my motherboard, H97I-PLUS, bios update 2703. My computer will boot up to bios just fine, my computer just won't start windows 7 for some strange reason. After I flashed the H97I-PLUS BIOS 2703, I got a message from American Megatrends to restore bios settings and I pressed F1 to restore bios settings. I know I flashed the bios update properly and I don't understand why windows 7 won't start anymore. Do I need to flash an older bios update, if yes, which bios update?

Here are my computer specs. Just in case people need to know.
Case: Corsair Graphite Series 380T
CPU: i7 4790k 4.00GHz Quad Core
Motherboard: Asus H97I-Plus
Ram: 8GB
Hard Drives: 500GB HDD and 120 GB SSD Kingston
Power Supply: Corsair RM650 Watt (Modular)
Video Card: MSI R9 280X Twin Frozr 3GB GDDR5
OS: Windows 7 64Bit
Water Cooler: Corsair H60 CPU water cooler

Hello,
I've downloaded BIOS version P01.B1 for my gateway dx4831-07 from the official site and installed following the instructions.
Installation was successful but now windows locks up at the "starting windows" screen. I can only access on safe mode. I've tried putting the Windows 7 Home Premium x64 Installation disk. Once booted from the DVD it started loading the windows files, and then it locks up again at the windows logo screen.

I did the SF_Diagnostic_Tool I uploaded the rar archive like in the instructions: http://www.sevenforums.com/joinseven...p?do=addmember

A:Bios Update Windows locks up

Hi JohnyDale, Welcome to Sevenforums.

1. Well since you're getting to the Windows boot menu, your BIOS is recognizing and reading the drive. I think its possible that the BIOS change could require new Windows driver(s) to use, but safe mode should overlook that. Have you tried booting off any other devices and see if you can still access/read the drive?

2. It can be a issue with the BIOS update. The workaround is to change the Boot speed setting in Bios to "normal" instead of the default "fast"
So..
Press and hold the F2 button, then power on the Unit. That should bring up the BIOS, from there you should see a setting under the Advanced tab called boot speed, just set it to normal and you should be able to load windows normaly

3. Try to boot from DVD and do system repair.

If all fails. Do a Clean Install Windows 7, install all the drivers again. That will fix the issue.

I have an old system running Windows XP and am wanting to perform a re installation of XP. Unfortunately I am unable to boot from the CD (no CD Rom Option in the Bios) for some reason and the system won't let me boot from my Flash Drive. Is there any other way to install XP without these two options. It was booting from a CD yesterday, but today it won't work. I checked the connections and they seem to be fine. I removed the battery, but that did not help. I tried another CD drive, same result. The system had a bad log log off thing going on which was caused by Internet Security 2010. I removed the virus by putting the old hard drive in another PC. Without thinking I tried to do a repair install using a Dell Home re installation disk, and got half way through and it kept asking me for a audio driver. I was stuck and then realized I should not be using this disk as The system was pre built and not a Dell. Please Help. Thanks

Due due some trouble with my video adapter, I was asked to disable
"Caching" or "shadowing" in the Bios.

However, I did not find any of these option in the bios although i made
a deep search.

My motherboard is an MSI865PEV2, and also i have installed a new bios
update.

Still I did not find the options????

Is there a way where these option Can be disabled apart from the bios?

This machine has 4GB ram and ~2GB integrated graphic memory, but most of my games only see 64MB VRAM so they don't run. I tried to change this in the BIOS but the option seems greyed-out. How can I change this? Note: I don't have any Supervisor password set, nor a user one.

Hello,
I recently put together a Shuttle sb51g, and everything's running smoothly. Thing is, my friend bought the exact same system (845ge chipset, 2.4 p4) and in his advance chipset features in bios, his shows "hyperthreading", and enable disable. On boot up mine shows 2.4mhz, and his shows 1.2mhzx2. Also, his ram is on 266, and mine 333, but he might have bad ram so thats no biggie. But, why don't I have this hyperthreading option? Is it something I did? The systems stable and everything, I dunno what's up...... Thanks all.

A:No hyperthreading option in Shuttle bios

First, check if your 2.4Ghz P4 have hyperthreading. There's a lot of versions of 2.4Ghz P4.
If you are sure that your P4 is hyperthreading capable, try updating the bios from the motherboard website, and the hyperthreading option will magically appear :∑)

When I am gtrying to change the BIOS order to boot from a cd I cannot because there is no such option. The cd option reads usb cd. I set that as the first option in the lineup, and the computer cannot find the cd. It says  something like "not detected."; so I cannot reboot from a cd.

Hey All,

I'm purchasing a new SSD next week. I've been reading up on it and it looks like I need to enable AHCI in my BIOS. I can't find any option for AHCI though.

I currently have my System setup as RAID0. This was how it was set up in the factory and I haven't changed it.

The only option I have is under SATA operation and I can either set it to "RAID Autodetect/ATA" or "RAID ON".

Is there anyway I can check to see whether AHCI is already enabled? If not will one of the above options enable it?

A:How to Enable AHCI - No option in BIOS.

Some motherboards incorporate AHCI SATA automatically. In the early days of SATA there was a lot of confusion in terminology. "RAID" - "AHCI" - all the same thing.

For your motherboard it looks like you want to choose "RAID Autodetect/ATA" to use a non-RAID setup with AHCI.

For some reasons, when I when to my BIOS, i found my Video Ram option of 128MB, but i was not able to edit that option since i have 4 GB of RAM. I would like to seek help in solving this problem as I really want to edit my Video Ram to gain better performance in games. I really hope to seek replies in solving this problem. Thank you!

A:Why isn't the Dedicated Video Ram option available in my BIOS

You don't give details on which Acer Laptop model you have but the BIOS is probably locked by the OEM due to configuration limits. The OEM settings will most likely provide the best performance available for a given model. If there's an available slot, you may be able to add a video adaptor to increase video performance. That will depend on what model you have.

I don't have the option in windows to boot back into the UEFI setup. In my motherboard bios setup there is an option which allows for the selection of UEFI, Legacy and UEFI or Legacy, When I change this to UEFI my pc wont' boot and the error message is that no UEFI partition was found.

I think it may have been deleted when I installed Windows 8.1 initially because i had to convert from MBR to GPT. Or so i read on one of the forums.

Is it possible to restore my UEFI partition so that I can use windows to enter the bios setup. I've had the boot on ultra fast and it took me a week to get into the bios without using the delete key. I had to use Gigabyte utilities which include drivers that crash windows. So i want to remove them again ASAP.

Any help appreciated.

A:UEFI option instead of Bios boot

Well to get back into UEFI mode you will have to reinstall in UEFI mode there is no other way, Sounds like some how your OS got converted to MBR so It may not boot either MBR or UEFI but you can't convert back to UEFI you have to Reinstall. If you have data on that disk you need to recover you can pull the drive and hook it up USB to another computer and recover your Data.

Hello After I recieved my Y50-70, I tried to install a linux partition for my work. I found how to activte USB boot on UEFI, but after few unsuccessful tries on different disk images, the USB boot option disappeared in the BIOS. I tried in legacy mode, it failed to boot (even if I was sure this one should not have failed), and now the USB boot option in legacy mode disappeared too. I've tried every configration of the BIOS (security enabled or disabled, UEFI or legacy, USB enabled or disabled ...) and I've never seen the USB boot options anymore. I've tried both "factory" and "setup" BIOS reset, USB boot option is still absent. I've tried to flash my BIOS from Lenovo official support (http://support.lenovo.com/fr/fr/products/Laptops-and-netbooks/Lenovo-Y-Series-laptops/Y50-70-Noteboo...), but the version being the same it does not want to. I've read that advanced BIOS settings are disabled in this laptop, and there's no CD player, so I'm out of options now. How can I boot on USB key and setup my computer for my work ? Thank you

Which version of Windows 8? It matters. What motherboard do you have? Are you sure you need BIOS support for Android emulation?Did you see this?Run Android apps on your Windows PCQuoteThe BlueStacks client will load up in a desktop window with different app categories like games, social, and so on. Clicking on an app or searching does something unexpected ? it brings up the full Play Store client as rendered on tablets. You can actually navigate around in this interface just as you would on a real Android device, which makes it clear there?s a lot more to BlueStacks than the ?App Player? front end. In fact, you can install a third-party launcher like Nova or Apex from the Play Store and set it as the default. The main screen in BlueStacks with the app categories is just a custom home screen, so replacing it makes BlueStacks feel almost like a regular Android device.Could that work?  Anyone using a Windows 8 Tablet should look at this item:Install Android on a Windows 8 Tablet
