Unknown BIOS password on ProBook 430 G3

Q: Unknown BIOS password on ProBook 430 G3

Hi HP Support, I've recently been given a laptop to fix, the hard drive needs replacing, but I need to enter the BIOS and can't as the password is long forgotten. Is there any chance I can get a hand resetting the password? Cheers! Toby

A: Unknown BIOS password on ProBook 430 G3

Hi, Unfortunately, business machines such as Probooks or Elitebooks have more stringent security than consumer models - they don't produce 'halt codes', the password cannot be derived from the Serial No. and the code is stored in non-volatile memory so removing the RTC cell will not reset the password in this case. If you Contact HP Business support they should be able to send you a customised SMC.bin file which you can use at boot to reset the password. Regards, DP-K

Max. There are no master password generators for ProBooks or EliteBooks and most business class laptops. You will need to contact HP. http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.html?jumpid=reg_r1002_usen_c-001_title_r0003 Or look at this link. http://forums.mydigitallife.info/threads/49497-HP-Probook-Elitebook-BIOS-Password-Reset-Utility I have a master external USB HDD with his programs that I have removed hundreds of passwords with Mazzif's help. Mazzif?s program will detect your UUID, Serial Number and model number then use that information to produce an .exe file to clear the password. If you find it to be to technical then. Or replace the BIOS chip.  http://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-Probook-4230s-4330s-4430s-4530s-4730s-5330m-5320m-5310m-Bios-Chip-No-Password-/251583731923?pt=US_Motherboard_Components&hash=item3a938f18d3 If you have good soldering skills order the BIOS chip. You will receive a picture of the chips location after purchase. REO I must inform you that these services are not endorsed by HP, and that HP is not responsible for any damage that may arise to your system by using these services. Please be aware that you do this at your own risk.

Hello Everyone,

I have a HP Probook 6550B laptop that when it starts up it prompts you to login in. I do not remember my password or the security questions. It does ask for the Bios admin password but I have no idea what that is. I have tried to remove the laptop battery, and the small watch like battery under the keyboard for (30 Minutes), removed the havedrive, and still the same problem.

When I remove the battery and only plug in just the power cord it does tell me that the BIOS is invalid, but when it reboots it goes back to defaults and goes back to the user password screen.

I cannot get to the BIOS setup windows, change the boot device order, nothing.

Does anyone have any ideas how to work around this problem? Otherwise the laptop is useless if I cant get past this screen.

Thanks

Hello everyone! I've been searching around for a solution to this issue I've having but haven't found a thread that relates to my particular situation, so help would be greatly appreaciated. I installed HP ProtectTools on a laptop and it configured BIOS to require a password before booting up. I decided that I didn't want that setup and since it was a fresh image of windows, a re-image would be a quicker and easier fix to this issue. However, the BIOS security features still remain and now all the previous software the was used to setup the BIOS security is no longer on the laptop. How can I go about removing this security feature now that I've re-imaged the laptop? Thanks

Hi,

For security reasons you need to send the notebook to an authorized service center to get the password removed.

There is an ASP list on the Toshiba website.

I recently found myself locked out of my system's BIOS having never set an admin password myself. Since then I've had many problems including forced reboots/physical memory dumps while trying to perform scans requested in the malware detection directions for this site. I don't know specifically what is wrong, but have had software detect anonymous users logging on to my computer remotely without appearing as users in the control panel.I've reinstalled the operating system counteless times and always find the same problems within hours if not minutes of installation completion. Finally, and I'm not sure if it's relevant, but Windows only recognizes some 148 odd Gb storage space on my 160 Gb hard drive. Also, the computer will boot normally, but not in safe mode or any other diagnostic condition; when trying this a screen comes up listing all installed drivers and computer freezes.Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks,DDS (Ver_10-03-17.01) - NTFSx86 Run by Ted Cassel at 15:50:36.10 on Thu 03/25/2010Internet Explorer: 7.0.5730.13Microsoft Windows XP Professional 5.1.2600.3.1252.1.1033.18.3574.3139 [GMT -7:00]============== Running Processes ===============C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost -k DcomLaunchsvchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe -k netsvcssvchost.exesvchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exesvchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\wscntfy.exeC:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXEC:\WINDOWS&#... Can anyone help with this problem.

At our site we have approx 300 of these laptops and they are all bios protected.
Recently had a problem where when inputting the bios password and it says its incorrect even though its the standard password we use on all our laptops. The user also confirms they didn't set a password...

Is it possible for the bios to somehow have become currupted (the machine was experiencing blue screens before) or how can I factory reset the bios password.

Before anyone says yes we own the machince and can prove it!

A:Portege R700 protected by unknown BIOS password

Maybe it sounds stupid but I think you should clarify this with nearest Toshiba service provider.
I use Toshiba notebooks for years now and I know for sure that Toshiba doesn?t sell notebooks with any kind of password or such kind of protection.

If you have such amount of notebooks maybe there was some special dial about configuration or protection. Anyway, BIOS password removal cannot be theme on such public forum. BIOS password protection is very important security feature and if there is some problem it must be clarified with authorized Toshiba service provider.

BIOS password cannot be set or changed from alone and, as far as I know, there is no kind of factory reset. I just know that BIOS can be set to default settings. That?s all.
Contact nearest Toshiba service provider and clarify this issue.

Hello to the BleepingComputer community,First of all I'm sorry I haven't finished some of the steps from the Preparation Guide. It's because these steps require a reboot (e.g. Step 6: Disable your CD Emulation Software - DeFogger will ask me to reboot the machine), and I have a bad feeling about the question if it is safe to reboot in my situation: I'm not sure if I have a type of malware which is ready to infect the BIOS - if it is so, then it could infect it much easier during the reboot process.- If there is a good way to find out what is the problem (and fix the BIOS threat part if it really is present) without rebooting / shutting down this PC, or at least without booting from this hard drive (which I feel is probably infected), then please tell me what should I do.- If you know a place / forum where I can get a specialized help for this (seemingly BIOS-malware related) situation, please tell me where I could go.- If there is no way to move forward, I'll go ahead and risk the reboot, and follow the other steps (steps 6 to 10) in the Preparation Guide, no problem.I kindly ask you to please read below the details of the problem as it occured to me, and the things I have tried so far.The PC is AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core BE-2350 2.1GHz, Motherboard Biostar TA690G AM2 (with AWARD BIOS), 4GB RAM, 200GB SATA HDD, and an ASUS EAH4870 card added a few years ago. It's with WinXP SP3, AVG Free 2012, (standard) Windows Firewall, and it's behind a router.I ... Our school currently has 800+ Probook 640 G2s and I've been repairing them but starting to come across a trend. The device won't come on AT ALL. I've replaced motherboard, power button board, tried different battery both in and out, reseated ram and tried the other location, different SSD and power supplies. I've almost built a new one a few times. We sent one off for them to repair at Depot so I could figure out what I'm doing wrong and the repair sheet came back with 3 parts. 845847-601 System Board (I know what this is obviously even if that part number doesn't match anything for the laptop). 846867-001 Hardware, HDD Bracket / Screw / ODD Bracket / Smart846868-001 Hardware, HDD Bracket / Screw / ODD Bracket / Smart The two above parts however I don't know what they are. Our machines have SSDs in them and there's no bracket. It plugs straight into the MB and 1 screw holds it down. I've tried the part searcher and it finds nothing (not even for the system board number). If anyone has any ideas it would be MUCH appreciated.

I very recently picked up a refurbished HP ProBook 6460B off Amazon to take care of a single harware driver Win 10 compatibility issue. It arrived and forced me to provide a user password, so reluctantly I did, giving something unique, and the reminder of ATV UP. As I did it I was think that was a dodgy reminder. The notebook solved my driver issue immediately and I was able to perform the equipment calibration that was needed. So I closed it and put it away. A week later I went to fire up the notebook again and drew a total blank on the password and now All Terrain Vehicle is stuck in my head, which makes no sense at all. Is there a way to boot into HP's UEFI to bypass my USER ID password issue and just start over? There's no data to lose on that unit so a clean reset to Win 7 Pro would be great. Maybe I'll even write the password down this time.

A:Win 7 Pro Lost Password on HP ProBook 6460B

Depends on whether the laptop has a Recovery partiton. If it does tapping away at F11 key immediately after powering on should boot into recovery to do a Factory reset. If no recovery partition you could call HP to order an installation disk for a small fee. Of the list here I have used the first two with success:http://pcsupport.about.com/od/toolsofthetrade/tp/passrecovery.htm

The update file seems to be OK, the file unpacks, then the programme runs, the system restarts at the end, but the BIOS is still the same.I tried on my own account and the system administrator too.I tried also do a bootable pendrive with update software, but while starting the system says, that it can't find any bootable disk. As I saw the pendrive on the file manager, there are some files on it, I mean the pendrive is not empty after doing it as bootable (of course using HP update software).

Dear Customer, Welcome to HP Support Forum and we are glad to assist you. This is to inform you that all HP Business Notebooks such as Probooks  or Elitebooks have more stringent security than consumer models infact they don't produce 'halt codes', the password cannot be derived from the Serial Number and the code is stored in non-volatile memory so removing the RTC cell will not reset the password in this case. Please have a look at this link. http://forums.mydigitallife.info/threads/49497-HP-Probook-Elitebook-BIOS-Password-Reset-Utility 2. B recently bought a HP ProBook 470 G3 with i7 CPU. When I got the notebook I placed my own memory and M.2 SSD in and performed a clean install of Windows 10 x64. Everything was fine, I installed all drivers and the notebook was working perfectly. However, when I flashed the new BIOS, V1.07 Rev A, I started having problems. I use the notebook for school purposes, so I open and close it multiple times a day. After flashing the new BIOS, the notebook would sometimes not wake, and when trying to power it off I had to remove the battery. Even holding the on/off button for 20 seconds wouldn't help. When booting up after removing the battery, I would get a system fan error, error code 90B. I tried re-flashing version 1.07, but eventually went back to version 1.06. That version works fine. It was a real let down to me, since this notebook costs ?1400,- and should be a reliable business notebook. Are their other people experiecing the same problems? If so, how did you fix this? And does anyone know when their will be a stable release of BIOS V1.07?

Use the PC Hardware Diagnostic UEFI to rollback to the previous BIOS if the one you flashed to is causing issues. Press the power button and then immediately begin tapping on the F2 key to evoke the Diagnostics menu. Choose Firmware Management. At the following menu choose and click on rollback to previous version.  You could also create and use the 3-in-1 usb to accomplish the same.http://www8.hp.com/us/en/campaigns/hpsupportassistant/pc-diags.html?jumpid=va_r602_us/en/any/pps/pl_ot_ob_ds_pd/HP_PC_Hardware_Diagnostics_cc/dt

When you executed the download BIOS softpaq, did you create a flash bootable key at that point? i assume you used another computer to do that? If you created a bootable usb key from the BIOS softpaq, you will see 3 files 68SCF.BINeRompaq.exegpl2.txt You can then insert the key no the laptop usb port and reboot to upgrade the BIOS. Is this what did not work?

I have a Lenonvo H50-55 desktop with an AMD A10-7800 APU (3.5GHz), 12GB RAM, 2 HDD's, and an Nvidia GTX 750 video card, running Windows10 Home x64. My current BIOS  version is IRKT54AUS, and the latest available version on Lenovo's update page for my machine is IRKT57AUS. When I try to flash my BIOS from the downloaded update file, I get the error message in the subject. I am starting everything with Admin privileges, but that makes no difference. If it's a Lenovo machine with stock BIOS, why am I getting an "unknown vendor" message? Inquiring minds want to know  TIA!

I have a Dell Latitude D630. It has an admin password for the bios. Nothing is locked except for the settings. I can't change any of the settings in the bios. It lets me boot to windows just fine though. My question is, since I don't know that admin password for the bios, if I upgrade the bios firmware, will the admin password be deleted? Since I'm flashing the bios, I would think that all the settings will be lost. Is that the case?

A:Will upgrading the bios firmware on a Latitude D630 delete the bios admin password?

What?

Didn't you reply here, and say it worked (after the unusual 9th try ) http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic109612-109.html#post747024

Awfully strange!

A bios update can't remove passwords. As You Must Know

Oh and thanks for the extended long Title. I'm thinking this Topic of yours would be best removed? What do you think?

Hello all,

I hope I can get some help / guidance from some one with more experience with the M400 if possible?!

I reinstalled the OS and setup the biometric security for me, which has worked flawlessly! However I stupidly also set up the boot up security (BIOS Password). So when the tablet gets turned on I can scan my finger and get in without any issues, however I now want to turn the boot up security off. So I booted it in to the OS and went to disable it....however it asks for my password....which I have forgot as I have been a typical end user and have been only using my bloody finger!

Does anyone know if I can disable the BIOS security while in the OS using the biomentric security rather than entering a password? I have tried just changing the admin password within the win OS but that doesn't work....any ideas?

Any help with be greatly appreciated!

Cheers

You are speaking about BIOS password which you set up in the BIOS?
As far as I know you cannot remove the BIOS password if you don?t know the old BIOS password.
In such case just the Toshiba ASP could help you? just the Toshiba ASP technician could remove the unknown BIOS password

I'm having a problem with a Toshiba Satellite L300D. After I reinstalled the HDD it would beep. To solve this I went into BIOS to look and see if the board had some sort of intrusion setting. When I exited the BIOS and restarted I know get the Enter Current Password (with a blue background on a black screen) with continuos beeps. The thing is it seems to auto enter in 10 characters (*) and then stop. There are no other options.

I have searched unsuccessfully for any info about this and I cant even find where the CMOS is located which I think is soldered onto the board.

Has anybody had any similar experience like this?
I would really appreciate any help its driving me crazy.

I updated the bios after I had notified from Toshiba about the Bios v3.50. The process was done by the Toshiba Utility software, and after the reboot there is "Password =" on a blank screen and it not recognise my BIOS password, writing "Not certified".

I have also tried the HDD password but no luck.

What can I do now?

A:Satellite Z30-A-12R BIOS password not recognised after BIOS upgrade

Hi

Before trying to update the BIOS, all passwords should be removed!
BIOS password can be removed by authorized service provider available in your country.

But the unknown HDD password cannot be removed anymore.
In such case the HDD isn?t accessible and cannot be used.

Sorry mate but in my opinion you have only one chance to get the BIOS password removed; you need the ASP assistance.

I was given a computer to work on and it turns out that her now ex-husband locked it, both the hard drive and the Bios. It is a Dell laptop. She was concerned about what was on the hard drive but I am almost 100% sure there's no way to unlock it???
As for the Bios, my desktop can be bypassed by either taking out the battery or resetting the CMOS jumper. On her laptop I took the battery out but it was still locked. She was hoping I could buy a different hard drive and the computer still be usable.

Any suggestions?

A:Bios password/Administrative password issue

Dear Customer, Welcome to HP Support Forum and we are glad to assist you. This is to inform you that all HP Business Notebooks such as Probooks  or Elitebooks have more stringent security than consumer models infact they don't produce 'halt codes', the password cannot be derived from the Serial Number and thecode is stored in non-volatile memory so removing the RTC cell will not reset the password in this case. Please have a look at this link. http://forums.mydigitallife.info/threads/49497-HP-Probook-Elitebook-BIOS-Password-Reset-Utility Replace the BIOS chiphttp://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-Elitebook-8470p-8470w-8570p-8570w-8770w-Programmed-Bios-Chip-No-Password-... Please Contact HP Business Notebook support they should be able to send you a customized SMC.bin file which you can use at boot to reset the password. Hope this helps, for any further queries reply to the post and feel free to join us again  **Click the White Thumbs Up Button on the right to say Thanks**Make it easier for other people to find solutions by marking a Reply 'Accept as Solution' if it solves your problem. Thank You,GBL84I am not an HP Employee

I'm afraid to tell you, but for this, you have to contact local ASP.
Because it is not that easy or possible the way you would do this on deskopt PCs.

This is why you have to take your machine to ASP. The guys there can remove the password.
