HP Pavilion a522n.  I just did a full recovery using a DVD I created when I bought the computer.  The following message appears:Your system has detected a configuration error. Please report this error to Customer Care using the phone number found in the Warranty and Support Guide that came with your PC. Unless corrected, this error will prevent your PC from operating properly. Turn off your PC by pressing and holding the Power button. After a few seconds your PC will automatically turn off. (Code Purple)" I first did the HP PC System Recovery and got the above message, so then tried the DVD I created.  Both get the same results.what do I do now?

I just recently ran a System Recovery on my Windows XP Home Edition SP3 computer and after the recovery is done I restarted the system and then this message shows up and I'm stuck here.

I don't have any disc that came with the computer because that was a very long time ago already. I tried to download the "Windows XP Home Edition Set Up Disk for Floppy Boot Installation" from Microsoft but I can't run the ff:

Windows XP Home Edition
Windows XP Home Edition SP1
Windows XP Home Edition SP2

I can't create the Set Up Disk For Home Edition, SP1, and SP2 because this computer I'm using right now is a 64 bit and no floppy disk drive. That's why I downloaded this instead:
Windows XP Service Pack 3 - ISO-9660 CD Image File
from:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=2fcde6ce-b5fb-4488-8c50-fe22559d164e&displaylang=en

I burned it to a DVD ROM but I don't know what to do next. After burning I reinserted the disc to this computer and the autorun activated. Then I inserted the disc to my Windows XP which has "System Configuration Error" and tried to reboot it but theres no autoplay or anything the computer still goes through the "System Configuration Error" message and I don't know how to access the set up disc. What should I do? Help please..

I would like to say hello to everybody here. I have a problem. My problem is the nasty dredful Code Purple Configuration Error for HP. I have been working on a HP Pavilian mini tower, and I ended up having to destructive restore it. I then restart the tower, and I get this Config Error code Purple. I don't mess with HP very much (I compac/HP) I have also did my research on the problem, and I know its got a tatoo on the mother board(haven't added any hardware, and the reason for the restore everytime I tried to logon, it would say saving settings and restart) Of course this computer hasn't came with a restore disk, its on a partition of its own. I know their was a lawsuit over HP sending restore disk, and I also know I need to put the hardrive in a different tower and delete a bin file. Here's the problem. I have been fighting with hp over this restore disk and wanting me to pay for tech support. I feel I shouldn't pay for tech support because this problem was caused by them. My question is there away to fix this easier than the other ways shown on this forum. I never have hook up a hp hard drive to a different tower(which I don't think will post any problems, but then when deleting bin files or even locating these file. I am not too comfortable with doing. Will someone either let me know a easy way to fix this or instruct me in which is the best way and the step to fix it. Sorry for acting like a dumby, but i am not trying to mess up this HP comp... Read more

I'm guessing nobody wants to touch this with a 10ft. pole. I still have the same problem with this HP, and I really don't know what will work to fix this, and if there is a way to do it easier. I have read alot about this subject, but really can't find the correct way to get this up and running. If someone could help that would be great.

Hi,
I have been looking all over the net to find out what this problem is, but alas, nobody has been able to identify it. Basically, my computer had a blue screen that flashes with the message HP Invent, that goes by rather quickly, followed by a black screen with safe mode options et al. When attempting a recovery I got the code purple error. I have read several people mention a motherboard issue that is not 'tatooed' correctly. But this motherboard is the original that came with my PC in 2003! There have been no upgrades in at least four years. The only new addition has been a Sony monitor recently. Please can someone tell me what this Code Purple error is, and how to resolve it. Time and assistance will be gratefully received.

Regards,

If its the motherboard going bad all you can do is replace it if you so choose.Motherboards can be expensive to replace and they dont last forever.

I have done everything i possibly can that i know of using the internet (F10, F5 F8 etc), i even called and got no help except more it will cost you $60 to get a number and i asked what is the number for where? No answer Last week, the computer no longer got past the microsoft logo (note no discs of any kind came with the computer, just it the mouse and the keyboardy from Best Buy) and no there isn't extra warranty on it. Ok i did system recovery, didn't work, system restor to last point it was working didn't work. Now it has obviosuly recognized i did a recovery so it goes to the logo screen and then the white box "Configuration Number Error)" comes up. Tells me to call HP to obtain it and the story goes on. Is there any backdoor tricks to obtain the config number, or of any fixes you know.I was wondering if it was a complete hard drive fail.  Any help is grealty appreciated! Thanks,Rosemary

When exactly do you get the message? Is it before Windows starts to boot? How does the message appear? Is it white lettering on a black background?

Does the machine boot? If so, how (What do you have to do after you see the message to get it to boot)?

Hi!
I'm working on a HP computer running XP Pro. When the computer would try to boot up to Windows an error message would appear stating that there was a configuration error and to contact the manufacturer. Then in paranthesis (Code Purple).

I did a search for Code Purple on the internet and got a number of hits, but only one seemed to have any suggestions for a solution.

This is what I found out and this is what I did (Some of these I copied and pasted from this blog - but just changed them to indicate specifically what I did I don't want to take credit for their great suggestions - the blog is at: http://www.billoblog.com/billoblog/?p=152#comments )

Code Purple indicates that there was a booby trap placed in HP and Compaq computers in which a “tattoo” or numerical signature of the motherboard and hardware configuration is created at the factory and encoded into the restore disks on a particular computer. Hi everyone.

This is my first post. I am running Windows XP Professional SP3 with 512 ram. The PC is my only PC at home and is about 7 years old. My kids are the primary users of the computer.

This issue started as a virus issue but I think is now an operating system problem. If this is in the wrong forum Please move to the correct forum.

I had an event happen last week. My system came to a complete slow down. Internet transfer rate was around 3kb per minute. I guessed I had picked up a virus. I tried to run Malwarbytes and Spybot. Neither program would load. I tried to reboot into safe mode and was not able to enter ctrl-alt-delete. Rebooted into normal mode and modified boot.ini so it would force start in safe mode. At this point I was able to enter safe mode. I ran Malwarbytes, Spybot, and Trend Micro Officescan 5.58. 4 viruses were found and cleared by the programs (I did not record the virus names). I rebooted into normal mode, reset boot.ini to start in normal mode and rebooted.

Things looked good until I noticed many services were not running. I can not get updates from Microsoft. I receive an error message when I try to uninstall programs. I looked at the event logs and noted multiple application errors. The primary error is:

The COM+ Event System detected a bad return code during its internal processing. HRESULT was 80070005 from line 44 of d:\comxp_sp3\com\com1x\src\events\tier1\eventsystemobj.cpp. Please contact Microso... Read more

Keyboard not detected, Mouse not detected. Fatal Error, System Halted.

That's what the system said, in DOS, on the black screen. Of course, I had my mouse and keyboard unplugged at the time, because I had just unplugged everything to move the computer.

Anyways, I plugged the keyboard and mouse in, restarted the computer, and everything started normally.

My question is, what is with this error? Vista can't boot up if I don't have a keyboard and mouse plugged in? It's not a big deal, but it seems like very odd behavior.

A:Keyboard not detected, Mouse not detected. Fatal Error, System Halted.

This has nothing to do with Vista whatsoever. As you said it showed up on the black screen with white text, which is the boot screen. The computer hasnt even started loading windows yet. The fatal eror occurs because you have no input device. The computer recognises this, and given that they are important, it puts a warning up that there is no connection.
It is completely normal, really, and whatever OS you have, its going to do the same thing.

Windows 7 x64 system installed last week. All has gone well until a while ago...Adobe Acrobat downloaded an update and installed it, then asked to restart the machine.

At restart Windows quit and offered to restart normally or to repair itself. I let it try to repair itself, but it repeatedly failed, with the error:

*Boot configuration is corrupt.
Result: Failed. Error code=0x490*

In addition, I noticed that windows apparently is not finding the boot drive...looking at the repair log I saw:

System Disk=\Device\Harddisk\Windows directory-\\?\GLOBAL ROOT\Device\Harddisk1\Partition2\Windows

Windows appears to be looking at the wrong disk...it's installed on a new drive with only one partition. Using the Command Prompt option in the repair window, I could not access the *real* drive "C" (Drive 0), only Drive 1, which has two partitions for D and E.

Hiren's Boot CD running NTFS4DOS does not see drive 0 at all and also shows Drive 1, Partition 1 as drive C. Hiren's mini-WinXP shows a drive C designated as "System Reserved" - and shows Drive 1 as drives D and E on its partitions 1 and 2 respectively.

Mini-WinXP shows the otherwise elusive disk 0 as disk F.

I could sure use some ideas for a fix...I didn't have many to begin with and by now I'm down to none! Thanks in advance, if anyone can help.

This is the error message that my computer had:
"Recovery
Your PC/Device needs to be repaired
The Boot Configuration Data for your PC is missing or contains errors
File:\EFI\Microsoft\Boot\BCD
Error code: 0xc0000185
You'll need to use recovery tools. If you dont have any installation media (like a disc or USB device), contact your PC administrator or PC/Device manufacturer.
Press Esc for UEFI Firmware Settings"
I made a recovery drive and set the UEFI to a USB boot, and when I tried to boot it with a blank USB it didnt recognize it, but when I used the recovery usb it recognized it. I did that to check and see if it actually recognized the recovery data.
Now when I boot it just has the Lenovo screen and the swirling dots. it's been doing this for about a half hour. Is this normal or is there an issued with the hatdware?

A:Boot Configuration Data is missing, Error Code 0xc0000185

The Error code: 0xc0000185 is an I/O error.
This can be a hardware problem or a software problem.
So the first thing to do is to run diagnostics on the hard drive ( http://www.carrona.org/hddiag.html )

If you have difficulties booting to the disk/drive, post back and we'll see about changing some settings in the UEFI to allow the boot.
I'm working on a drive that will do this for you, but it's still in the testing phase (and it's a 700+ mB download).

If the drive is dead/dying, you may have problems trying to recover your data.
Do you have a recent backup?  If not, post back for suggestions on how to best backup your information.

FYI - if it is dying, then it's best not to use the drive at all until you've done the backup.
If the drive does die fully, then data recovery gets very expensive (up to $2000 (US)) if it's even possible.

The title pretty much sums it up. A few days ago, I googles something, don't remember what, clicked on a normal- looking link, got one of those "Your computer has 151 detected infections" or something like that, immediately backed out then closed Firefox. (it resized the browser window and basically just took control) I knew I was screwed. Three days later, I resume from hibernate, and it froze. It's never even skipped before. (It's a new system: Dell Vostro V13 32b, abt three mos old. ) Tried ctrl/alt/del to no avail, then pushed power button. It immediately turned off w/o typical shut-down sequence. Upon restart, after BIOS, it asked to check cable and offered:

Error code: 2000-0151 incorrect status 32, no additional sense information.

Thank you for any assistance with this issue. Jim

Hi -

See if you can boot with your Windows 7 DVD and try system repair &/or system restore.

If you are able to then boot into Windows, have your system reviewed by a Security Analyst.
Please follow these steps - http://www.techsupportforum.com/f50/...lp-305963.html

If you cannot boot into either SAFEMODE or Normal Windows, you will need to reinstall Windows 7.

Can you hear the drive spin up ? I can't see why what you have done would affect the drive. You say you have checked the connections. Try going into BIOS and get to the hard drive screen and see if it will detect anything, also ensure you are in AHCI mode and not IDE.

I found an old thread about this here, but my problem is a little different. I only get this error intermittently, maybe once a week. I have a new Dell Studio laptop. I will turn it on as usual but sometimes I get a lot of beeping and the "Error Code 2000-0141 No Drive Detected" message. After I run the onboard diagnostic the computer will boot normally.

Why does the drive fail only intermittently? I thought if it was a bad drive it would always be a bad drive. Or is it that there is some faulty connection? Sending the laptop back will cost me weeks or months without a computer.

A:Dell Error Code 0141 No Drive Detected

The thread you linked to is exactly your same problem. Here are the possibilities:
There is an intermittent drive failure that will eventually become permanent.
There is an intermittent main board failure that will eventually become permanent.
There is a bad connection between the drive and the main board that shows up occasionally (not likely)
You had better back up your data daily to external media because recovering data from a failed hard disk starts at around a thousand dollars and that is for small disks. Turn-around time is usually two weeks or more.

We have tryed "reseating" the drive a couple of times and the tests still say no hard drive detected.

He has not made any backups of his data, also he has not made any backup recovery discs

OK the data maybe lost, but what about windows, how does that get put back on a new hard drive if your laptop had the OS preinstalled.

Or is the best option is to take it to a computer repair shop and maybe they can transfer all the data and the OS to a new hard drive....
I just like to know how this works, its not for me , this happened to my mate next door.

Just to clarify
Hard drive looks if it has failed
The OS was preinstalled
No backups of any type

PS

I have done a couple of searches and this does not mean to say it is the actuall hard drive thats failed, as some people have bought new hard drives and are still getting the same message.

Could this also mean a motherboard or controller problem.....

notes
no error bleeps on boot
no signal detected on screen
cannot access bios
reset CMOS - no success
moved all parts over to gigabyte mobo and all works well.
removed RAM from board and booted but no error codes from this either??

Whats frustrating is that I returned the mobo to the buyer who tested and showed as working correctly.??

Im thinking it maybe a RAM issue?
Does anyone have more experience with the ASUS mobos? Are they funny on RAM types/spec (checked QVL and Corsair RAM that i have picked is not showing)

I knew i should have stayed with Gigabyte

Hi guys, first time posting so apologies in advance if I do something illegal. As far as I can gather, I should be posting in the right forum. I've been having system stability problems for the last week or so. I think it might be because of a mass driver update across my system since nothing else seems to be the cause.

Basically, I updated some drivers bout a week ago and now the PC either hangs or auto-restart when I'm playing games. At first I thought it might be due to OC instability, so I reset my bios to default settings. Didn't quite work out completely as the system still exhibits the "sudden death" during gaming.

Have tried the steps in the sticky above on refreshing the page file. defragging etc. Problem still hasn't gone away. All rams have cleared 7 cycles of memtest at 2.65 volts and 2.6 volts without problems, though everything has been reset to stock already.

I was trying to repair a software installation (Iomegatools) by removing and reinstalling this software. My system froze after the installation and I shut down the computer and tried to restart Windows XP. On restart, I get a black screen with white type indicating I have an invalid system configuration. It suggests I run Setup to input the correct date and time. When I get past that it starts to load windows XP but freezes on a blue screen with the Windows XP logo but no User logon information. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Hi i bought a COMPAQ pc, windows XP desktop in 2003 at a local Best Buy. I was creating a second user account for the system when it froze and shut down. Upon restart, the loading Windows XP black load screen that shows up right after power returns froze and a window came up saying system configuration error. I am currently 20 miles from my house ,and on a different computer obviously, but the i can remember that the error tells me that if problem is not fixed please call the number in my computer manual. I would LOVE to avoid waiting on the phone please help !~~!! please..My only solution i could think of was using the system restore disk but i do not even know if the boot up goes far enough for the PC to read the disk. Please help and thank you for your time.

Hi and welcome. See if you can start in safe mode. For a system this old, I doubt you'll get anywhere calling the number in the computer manual anyway.

"You have used the System Configuration Utility to make changes to the way Windows starts. The System Configuration Utility is currently in Diagnostic or Selective Startup mode, causing this message to be displayed and the utility to run every time Windows starts. Choose the Normal Startup mode on the general tab to start Windows normally and undo the changes you made using the System Configuration Utility."

I have already checked the "Normal Startup" box but after restarting, the message pops up again.

This a.m. I was greeted by this System Configuration Utility message popup:

You have used the System Configuration Utility to make changes to the way Windows starts.

The System Configuration Utility is currently in Diagnostic or Selective Startup mode, causing this message to be displayed and the Utility to run every time Windows starts.

Choose the Normal Startup mode on the General tab to start Windows normally and undo the changes you made using the system Configuration Utility.
-----------------------------------------------------------

Yesterday I used the system configuration utility to untick a program in the Startup menu. Is that why I am getting this message now?

If I follow the directions and select the Normal Startup option, will all the services that I have painstakingly turned off over time start running on startup again? Or will it just load the one application it changed?

Could I restore the registry from a few days ago instead? And, if I do that, will the tracking cookies I finally got rid of by setting them to be deleted at start-up reappear?

Another question I have is, what is the utility used for, if not to make changes? Is it just to look at? What good is it then?

I meet this error only on my laptop connecting to 2 particular Windows 2008 server. Below is the scenario

1. I used my laptop Windows 7
2. I am trying to connect to Windows 2008 R2 server via Remote Desktop Connection.

I got this error:
because of a protocol error detected at the client(code 0x1104), this session will be disconnected

Important thing:
1. I can connect to other Windows 2008 R2 servers with Remote Desktop Connection successfully. Only 2 servers cannot connect.
2. For those 2 servers, if I use another Windows 7 to connect, this also has no issue

That means:
Only my laptop connecting to 2 particular Windows 2008 servers have this problem

So my RDP client side is working -because it can connect other Windows VMs
The 2 servers are also working - because it can be connected via another client

Please help me! Thank you very much

HP Pavilion DV2000 was running real slow. Had to have it wiped and used the system recovery disk and had it set back to factory. I updated Windows and installed McAfee. Was running fine for a day and then suddenly it began running slow again. Now, a couple of boxes show up. First message box says Services and Controller App by Publisher Microsoft Corporation. To help protect your computer Windows has shut this down and then a 2nd box appears and it says The System is shutting down by NT Authority System and gives an error code of 1073741819. C:\\Windows system 32 services.exe the system will now shut down and restart. It then counts down from 60 seconds. It shuts down the Wireless Assistant and then shuts down the system and it reboots. This cycle continues so I have to hold down the Power button to shut down the laptop. Could use some help. I don't know why it is doing this.

When attempting to install MS Office 2010 (also applies to Pro, Beta, and 2007) via download, you may be foiled by Error code 25004 and System error 1073418460 under Win 7 (or Vista, XP). You may also see a refusal to verify the license. This typically happens when you fail to uninstall Office 2010 Starter, Office Click, or some other version of Office before attempting to install the new Office. You would think MS had already figured out how to prevent this <sigh>.

You need to remove all the instances of Office in order to properly install the new office. However, you may also find that the Windows uninstall from Control Panel, Add or change a program will fail to remove the old Office.

This thread can be helpful, although it is somewhat dated. The RevoUninstaller sounds like a successful utility, but I have not tried it myself.

One thing, about the use of HijackThis, you must NEVER attempt to fix stuff using HijackThis, until someone who is experienced at reading the log outputs has a chance to review it.Fixing the wrong items can make a computer unbootable.Spaces, extra characters, spelling, file location, plus numerous other subtle changes, all make the difference between a good, or bad, file entry. Hijack this is an ennumerator. It lists what is found in certain areas of the registry, or system files, in an easily accessible manner, so that those familiar with the use and reading of HijackThis logs, and windows programs, can determine what is infecting the machine, and how to remove it.It is not a removal tool.It will indeed remove the entries listed, but that does not cure the underlying problem. The problem must be properly identified first, and cured, prior to removing the entries with HJT. Otherwise you leave the infection, and remove the keys which are needed to identify and remove it .Removing entries in HJT before the problem is properly identified, and correct removal instructions posted, can make the problem undetectable to other detection and removal tools.Do not have HJT fix anything without consulting with someone with HijackThis logfile knowledge.Hijack this should only be used to clean up the entries left behind, after you have properly removed the offending program, file, trojan, worm, hijacker etc. And this usually requires help.Have you been trained in the use of HijackThis? If no... Hi,The forums are really busy, that explains why logs get behind. We start with the oldest logs first. If you still need some help, please start with posting a new hijackthislog in this thread. Don't start with a new thread. Then I'll take a look. By the way... Any reason why your windows isn't up to date? You don't have even ServicePack1 installed! Remember that your system is extremely vulnerable without the necessary security patches/updates, so malware can get installed automatically while surfing without any problems. Please visit http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloa...p1/network.mspx and update to Service Pack 1. Without this update, you're wide open to re-infection, and we're both just wasting our time. When your system is clean afterwards, then update to SP2, because updating to SP2 CAN cause problems as long as you are infected.

This is the first time I have used this so I will try to explain the best I can. I received a message on my desk top stating I had some sort of spyware program. Atfer running Nortons I had no luck with fixing the problem. I found the area called Preperation Guide for use before posting a Highjack This log. I craeted an account, enable topic reply notification by default, cleaned temp internet files, scaned computer with Ad-Aware and Spybot, then I used Bit Defender to scan computer and ran McAfee AVERT Stinger, did the firewall and got windows updates and then when I downloaded HighjackThis I saved it to my desktop I hit unzip then close but when I went back in to open it it would not open. I have tried several times to do this sep and each time it will not open. I no longer have the spyware banner in the center of my desk top but I get a System Error 384 when I click on the Internet Explorer Icon. With all the scans I have ran it always seems like there are 6 errors in files that I can not get rid of and I dont know if they are stuck in something that runs when I restart the computer or not. Another thing was I did not know if I should be running these in safe mode or not and I do have my system resore disabled right now.
I am so confused right now any help would be appreciated.

Hello and Welcome to TSF!!!

Download CWShredder and run it. Click on 'I Agree' button if you agree with it. Click on 'Fix' (it will automatically fix anything it finds for you) and OK. If it asks if you want to delete a certain random file, choose No and post that filename here. Let it finish the scan and then hit Next and Exit.

Download and install Spybot S&D. Run Spybot and click on the 'Search for Updates' button. Install any updates that are available. Next click on the 'Check for Problems' button. Let it run the scan. If it finds something, check all those in RED and hit the Fix Selected Problems button. Exit Spybot. If you keep getting the DSO Exploit entries, even after you updated Windows and fixed them, then download the Spybot DSO Exploit Fix and install it over the current Spybot installation.

Please download Ad-aware SE and install it if you don't have it already. Make sure it's the newest version and check for any updates before running it. Also go here to get the plug-in for fixing VX2 variants. To run this tool, go into Ad-aware->Add-ons and select VX2 Cleaner. Then click Run Tool and OK to start it. If it's clean, it will say Status System Clean. Otherwise, you will have to click on the Clean button to remove the VX2 infection. Also make sure to customize the settings in Ad-aware for better scan results. Run the scan and fix everything that it finds.

I've always had weird things wrong with my system which I've suspected memory problems, like games that take up a lot of memory would sometimes crash, etc.

I had gotten BSODs before, but RARELY. Now recently, at least once a day I've been getting this BSOD "DRIVER LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL_TO" (something like that).

Here is the exact error I get:

Error code 1000000a, parameter1 00000000, parameter2 00000002, parameter3 00000000, parameter4 8053624f.

Error code 1000000a, parameter1 c3e9659a, parameter2 00000002, parameter3 00000001, parameter4 806ffa16.

Error code 1000000a, parameter1 00000000, parameter2 0000001c, parameter3 00000001, parameter4 804e163c.

Those above are from 3 separate occasions, all within 2 days. The odd thing is, this BSOD started coming recently. I would get a BSOD maybe 1ce a week at most before, and now I am getting this every day.

Another thing I've noticed is my computer sometimes get sluggish after a restart from a BSOD.. its very odd.

I've run windows debugger on the mini dumps of those crashes and got :

Probably caused by : SCSIPORT.SYS ( SCSIPORT+5974 ) for one of them
and
Probably caused by : ntoskrnl.exe for the other two.

Thanks.

Hi everyone,
This morning I turned on my PC (Windows 7 x64) and I get this blue screen error STOP:c000021a [FATAL SYSTEM ERROR].
I can't even get passed the starting windows screen it just keeps on rebooting then getting blue screen again. I've tried safe mode and last known configuration point. Both just give me blue screen after the drivers are loaded. Haven't installed anything new recently so I don't know what the cause of this problem could be. I apparently have no system restore points even though Norton would make them every scan. I can get to command prompt and that is the only thing I can get to. Is there a way I can fix this through command prompt. I think I've attached the screen it gives me and that's all I know.
Thanks!

My IE6 homepage keeps resetting itself to http://www.hotpics-tgp.com/cgi-bin/secure.cgi and displays a screen informing me of my IP address and ISP, telling me that I am at very high risk and need to purchase a particular piece of software.

It is exactly the same screen as appears in this thread. I have followed all the instructions on this post, to no avail. I am running WinXP home sp2 and IE6, broadband via AOL.

I'd appreciate if someone could help me. Here is my hijack this log (The R0 line with the URL in it just keeps reappearing if I delete it):

I had the "Detected SPYware! System error #384" virus on my machine.
I loaded McAfee Virusscan (Ver 9.0) and downloaded latest virus file. It reported several infections and removed them. I presume it got rid of most of the problem as I do not get the pop up ballon in the XP system tray saying Spyware has been detected and the blue screen does not appear when starting Internet Explorer.

I also followed the directions posted at http://easyrcon.com/spyremove/

I cannot find the file "secure.html" anywhere on the computer. I am under the impression if this file is made read only, spyware cannot change the IE startup page.

Now, each time I start Internet Explorer (Ver 6), I get the message:
"Cannot find 'file:///c:/secure32.html'

After selecting ok, I am presented with IE but not connected to anything. I then need to select one of my favourites to get it working.
I then select Internet Options to change my default startup page, which seems to work ok when I apply it, but as soon as I go back in to the options again, it has been reset to c:/secure.html.

This seems consistent with the comments from easyrcon.com that the virus updates the file every second.

I do not know if this virus is still on my machine or it has just corrupted IE start up options.

Could anyone help ?

I have noticed a lot of people provide you with a log file from Hijack This. Is this my next step ?

every 2 days i get this irritating message: "system error code 8, not enouge storage...." this happens when i try to close programs , when i try to open a program or even to open a browser. therefore, i need to restart my computer everytime and then it works fine for a day or two.....
i have plenty of space in my hard disk.
i tried several things that i read but it doesn't help: i used registry booster program but, in vain....
i really don't want to format my pc now.

what can i do to solve this problem?
i am thankful for any advice!

A:system error code 8

Go to Start and type in "diskmgmt.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter
Once in Disk Management, check each and every disk for free space. Most likely you'll find a disk that's full.

If this doesn't work, then post back and we'll try more stuff.

hi,
I have windows vista on an acer aspire. about an hour ago, I got an error message that said " system error. hard disk failure detected". after that I got about 50 error messages all layered on top of each other, with 2 options I can't remember. I was then reading about this possible virus online when my desktop folders disappeared and soon the computer shut itself off. I restarted and got all the error messages again, but was able to get on to the internet (under the start menu all the programs were gone, but when I went to all programs you could see them). but again the computer shut itself off (after i tried to close some of the error windows which were blocking my view of the web browser).

now I tried to restart my computer again but it will not start. instead it is giving me a window with the option to repair or restore.

I am on my phone posting to this site, hoping someone can help.

I do not have a cd/dvd drive, btw.

I have read the Prep guide and will include the output of DDS below.

Looking forward to getting this crap off of my machine.

Good Morning,

Have run into a problem removing some malware. We have successfully removed malware from this and other computers in the past, but ran into an issue this morning.

Computer is running XP SP3. This morning, we found that there were a large of number of "critical hard drive" alerts, both in the task bar and in pop ups (Red icon in taskbar with white x in it?). None of those files were clicked and we rebooted into safe mode with networking. However, once logged in as the same user that was logged in previously, we are unable to run rkill.exe (or several of its renamed versions) and are also unable to install malwarebytes. Both programs receive "access denied" errors.

Appreciate any assistance that can be provided!
===
Wanted to add a little more information.

The main dialog box (lots of cascading dialog boxes) listed "System Error. Hard Disk Failure detected. It's highly recommended to run complete HDD scan to prevent loss of personal files." The two buttons were 'scan and repair' or 'cancel and restart.' (Didn't click any of these)

In the taskbar, the pop up says "Critical Error. Drive sector not found error."

Thanks again.

I am hoping someone can help me out, i have had a my laptop for nearly a year, its a T210 and every so often it comes up with the following pop up:

Warning: A problem with the cooling system has been detected. Please turn off your computer immediately and return it for service.

If i click ok it does go away but its obviously not resolved as it keeps reoccurring. Any ideas what the problem is and whether it is an easy fix or am i going to have to send it back to Toshiba?

Thanks

Hi

Yeah I know this error message? some people here in the forum reported the same error message and it seems like a software bug?
The cooling modules are ok.

As far as I know new system recovery would solve this?
However, you should not be afraid that something is wrong with the cooling module system

Problem with a HP Pavilion t760a with intel 915p chipset and a Puffer-UL8E(PTGD1-LA) Motherboard. Windows XP SP2. I nstalled new Ram (2x1GB) ,tested it, pc worked fine. Then installed a new Graphics card..An ATI Radeon HD 2400XT.

Now there is a yellow exlamation mark against one of the "Microsoft UAA bus driver for high definition audio" and the computer if left idle will reboot by itself and load with this message..
" the system has recovered from a serious error...etc" and I get an error code 12 message.."windows could not find enough resources ....disable something else to free up "(something like that)

I have disabled both UAA bus drivers (1 at a time) but that didnt help.
I have disabled the onboard sound via the bios and that didnt help. I assume the problem is with the new graphics card. I cant work out if there are too many devices on the same IRQ(i read to manually assign some to a different IRQ but the ones i looked out are greyed out and cant be changed)

Now what do I try??
any and all help appreciated
Thanks

A:code 12+system has recovered from a serious error

Pal, I have exactly the same problem. I have a 4-year old HP Pavilion MCE XP. Just brought some RAMs (total 3G) and added an ATI Raedon HD 2600 (512M).

The "Microsoft UAA bus driver for high definition audio" with exclamation mark kept bugging me. Although I could still hear from the speakers - they are working fine, but I doubt there must be something wrong with the driver of the graphic card. I want to use the HP computer to watch digital TV, that's all. Googled the phrase with not much help. Raedon support/website is dead. Microsoft KB is also no use.

Any brother could offer some help?

My lap top starts up fine, but when ever I try to access the Internet the first time after I have turned the computer on, I get a blue screen with the message – Detected Spyware! System 384. In the “Address” bar it shows C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\secure32.htmlThis is on a Windows 2000 system and I am using Internet Explorer. If I go under Tools and Internet Options and look at the home page setting it says: File:///C:\WINNT\system32\secure32.htmlI can change the home page here and go on the Internet just fine. I can close out of the Internet and come back in just fine. But, if I do a restart or shutdown the same thing happens again.I did follow the path and in the C: Drive there is a “blue letter e” Icon labeled “secure32.html”. If I click on it once, it will display and show me the exact blue screen that I am getting. So I am thinking this is getting put back in my C: Drive each time I turn on the computer. I have deleted that icon out of here, but every time I restart or shut down and come back on to go on the Internet, the same thing happens. This computer is used on a network. If I log in with my own username and password I do get the blue screen with the 384 error. If I log in as the Admin username and password, I do not have any trouble. (not sure if you need this info or not) This works the same if I am just hooked up to a DSL modem with no IP’s numbers under TCP/IP or if I have the IP... Read more

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

Hi! I am trying to connect two monitors to one PC... a Dell Optiplex 745. I work for a small business and all the workstations are dell optiplex 745's. The other 745's have two different graphics ports one is VGA and the other is DVI well I noticed on the workstation I need to use there is not a dvi connection so I took one out of another 745 workstation and installed the same way into the 745 i need to use but as soon as i installed it an error came up sayng " Unsupported video configuration detected this computer has an add in graphics card but the monitor cable is plugged into the intergrated video connector. to attach the monitor cable to the graphics card connector this may require a video adapter or video adapter cable" As soon as i open the case and install this device in the slot and turn the computer on that error message comes up before i even plug the monitor cable into it. The graphics card works fine when in another 745 it just seems to be a problem with this one. Windows xp is the opertating system. Can anyone help me out or give any advice?

A:Unsupported Video configuration detected

To use dual screen you need to use either the onboard VGA (with a splitter cable) OR the DVI addon card.

When you put the DVI card in, disconnect the VGA and connect the monitor directly to the DVI card and start it up.

I had 2x4GB ram in my system and swapped one of the 4GB sticks out for an 8GB stick.
My system still says I have 8GB installed, which if the new stick wasn't working I should only have 4. It seems somehow the new 8GB ram is working but the old ram no longer is.
I have checked my RAM info, System Info, and Resource Manager and they all agree on the ammount of memory I have. I have done a mem test (using the windows 10 memory diagnostic tool) and it didn't show me any results when I logged in or mention any issues during the test.
How can I trouble shoot this issue?

Computer was running fine until I used a safe mode windows firewall sweeper in order to get rid of this nasty Trojan horse.
The program ran fine and it delete just the Trojan horse "no other program or files were removed"
I've tried several times to system restore but still the same error message.

Is it possible it did something to my registry and can clear CMOS work to fix it? I cannot get past the system restore screen and the bios screen can also get command prompt.

If there is nothin that I can do to solve the problem would erasing everything and starting out fresh fix it?

Please help.

If you tried to do the restore in the normal OS configuration, try going back into Safe Mode to do it.

I am really so sorry. Although I have already read all the post against the matter, I think that I have already understand the problem. The PC is a Vaio VGN-FW21Z with a 32bit Win7 Home Premium. I have already try several drivers Ricoh (some of them for Vista, using Compatibility installation) and no way. . Thanks a lot.

I was wondering if you could help me to solve my problem. My tablet is a Microsoft Surface Pro with Windows 8 pro. It keeps failing at different stages but always shows Failed Error Code 0x81000033.I am using Windows 7 file recovery.I am trying to create a system image. I've read on other forums that this may have to do with the recovery partition or system partition not having enough space because of journal entries being written to it by some other application.

I first came accross this problem when my either RegCure or Antispyware programs attempted to run a scan and no restore point was able to be created. I then went to create a manual restore point and receive the following:

The restore point could not be created for the following reason:
Shadow copying the specified volume is not supported. (0x8004230C)
please try again.

There's no previous restore points created. So basically my System Restore can not be turned on and has been off all along. When either attempting to turn on or create a restore point I get the above message. I dissable my Norton 360 and Windows One Live Care to see if that was the cause of the problem and nothing happened. I also went to Services and was only able to find Volume Shadow Copying, which is was turned on. I have read on TechNet to look for Windows Software Volume Shadow Copying but did not find it in the list of services, only found Volume Shadow Copying. My Windows OS is Vista Home Premium 32bit on a Toshiba Satellite A205-S5852 model. Any solutions will be greatly appreciated.

I have been dealing with BSOD's since I build my computer. I have gotten different error messages, but they mostly relate to memory. I have run memory diagnostics multiple times, and they have all come back clean. I am leaning towards the video card, but I did a stress test earlier today and it didn't crash it. The last couple of crashes have been in this past week. Is there a way I can narrow it down between RAM and my video card?

A:BSOD Modification of System Code Error

rlister, this is the third BSOD thread you've started in a week. If this is the same machine you're having problems with can you stick to one thread so people don't keep giving the same advice over and over again, or, worse still, have no idea of what troubleshooting steps have been performed prior to this.

Please help me, I Found this website on google.com after a Popup with the title Critical error! keeps on popping up everytime i access my C: drive and internet explorer. The popup reads:

Attention, ! Some dangerous viruss detected in your system. Microsoft Windows XP files corrupted. This may lead to the destruction of important files in C:\WINDOWS. Download protection software now! Click OK to download the antispyware. (Recommended) and i have an option of clicking yes to download the software and no which opens up an internet explorer page to software's website which will try to convince me to download the software.

I have read some posts on this forums with the same problems and have done the 5 steps on the "5 Steps before posting a log" thread. I have attatched the Panda Activescan log as well as copied and pasted it below but i could not attach the Hijackthis log as the attach page says it is an invalid file and so, i just copied and pasted it below. Any help will be appreciated. I will try to check this thread for replies whenever i can. Thanks!

Machine type: Gateway DX4300-03 (desktop)
Operating System: Vista 64bit
Processor: AMD Phenom 9750 quad core

I recently used the built in restore provided by gateway, I picked the option to restore to factory defaults and save my data.

Upon attempting to apply the updates I am getting error code 80072F8F which states that there is an issue with time the machine not being correct. However, that is not the situation and the time is correct.

Next I tried to use the Microsoft repair update tool however it failed to run giving me the same error.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

A:Updates fail after system restore with error code

Hi,

You say the time is correct but is the region for your time zone correct too? i.e +1 hr setting too.

Check closely for time date & month plus year...... etc

System Restore doesn't seem to be working on my Alienware Aurora ALX, Win 7 64-bit desktop. Several times I have tried to restore from a different point and keep getting the same error message. I'm attaching a screen shot and my Hijackthis log file. Thanks in advance for any help.

System Restore fails to complete it's program and says it cannot access a file. I have tried different restore points and have also disabled my antivirus program(BitDefender2010). In all other respects the computer appears to be working normally. I would be most grateful for any advice on how to rectify this situation.

When i try to open any document i have previously prepared and saved to any of my folders...documents, downloads etc...if the document is one i have typed i now get the message...The system cannot find the file specified...the heading says Error but there is never an error code. This problem affect both documents i had prepared over the last 10 years as well as those i have prepared since downloading Windows 10. I dont think the problem is Windows 10 because until recently i could always open any of thes documents and edit them , print them etc. Now they wont open and i cant print them either. Any help in figuring out what is causing this and how to repair it will be appreciated . I even tried to access some documents from a flash drive and had the same result. Could it be a file extension problem?
