Hey guys, need some help. I thought I would help out a friend with his laptop but it is to much for me. Mostly because he is not sure if there are any Recovery discs, and, there seems to be something wrong with the Create Recovery Set function, along with the Recover from Recovery Partition function.
I saw and researched these Addwares/malware or whatever they are:
PC Tech Hotline
Reg Pro Cleaner version 2.0
After as much research as possible I downloaded Emsisoft portable Malware Remover. Then as the tutorials suggested I removed as much of the Addware as possible in Add-Remove programs, including:
Reg Clean Pro
avast free av: because it did not work.
Chrome browser: because it did not work either.
I then ran Emsisoft and quarantined all that it found. There was one that was Medium Risk and one that was of High Risk. I copied the list if you need it. Then tried to run the pc and do some M.S. Updates but ran into an issue with Windows Update Registry issues.
and or 0x80004002
Ran the Trouble Shooter and that produced this Error: 0x8007005(2015-07-14-T-09_48_55P)Not fixed.
I then went back and Unquarantined anything that had the HKEY Prefix, that said "Not a threat" or something to that extent and tried to proceed with updates. It just kept Checking for Updates and never stopped.

This laptop was recently given to a friend of mine. She was told that it would just keep freezing up or shutting off. She brought it to me to check for her because if wouldn't boot. I used a boot disk and got it booted and it seemed ok. Gave it back and she had it a wk and brought it back with problem of freezing up and then no boot. I just put HWmonitor on it and the temps are running from 62-75 C. She said it was constantly doing windows updates and the last one it wouldn't re-boot. I have a plastic think I use with my laptop that has 3 small fans on it and you put it under the laptop. I have had it on over an hour and it has gone up from 70-75 for a high. I finally got it to come up with using Chk Dsk and it did several repairs. That's all I have done with it so far. Does anyone have any suggestions? She didn't have anything with fans under it, but she had it up on a broiler pan off the table.

Upon starting my laptop, I get a message that the system has detected the storage capacity of the primary internal battery is very low and needs to be replaced. No important programs load and the desktop loads normal brightness until I move the cursor and the brightness fades to very low. I have to admit that yesterday, I accidently spilled about 3 tablespoons of lemonade onto the lower right hand side of the keyboard. Everything seemed fine until about an hour later, when the pages of any internet site seemed to scroll down by themselves and I couldn't control with the "page up button"......kept scrolling down. Then when I went to my Vanguard account screen and tried to type in my user name, with the last 3 digits of 627, what kept appearing was 6267. everytime I tried.
Then on an MSNBC site, I was watching a replay of one of their programs and their video program has it's own volume button.
Everytime I tried to raise the volume, it went down on it's own. It wasn't until this morning that when I turned on the lap top, most of the task bar was empty and the screen would fade. I took the back panels off to look for that "internal battery" but couldnt see it.
Research on the internet keeps directing me to the large detachable battery on the back but this battery has proven to be good.
If I take that battery out and just try using only the power cord, I still get the same bad results mentioned above.
I think I narrowed it down to the "... Read more

I'm helping a friend clean up her computer, from malware, viruses, to performance. I've done full scans with AVG and Malware Bytes, while also eliminating many unnecessary programs. The computer has improved 100% but I'm still struggling with single tasks such as opening Google Chrome, or Disk Defrag, for it takes 1-2 min. for them to open. Last night I couldn't even open Disk Defrag... Any suggestions? I could really use a bit of help. Also, there is only 2gb of RAM so it could very well be why everything is delayed...
My personal computer runs two 4GB ram sticks so Its not exactly something I should even compare it with.
I'd advise you to just have her save her personal files on a flash drive, and reinstall the operating system from scratch. You don't know how many files have been corrupted, it might take just as long to fix them as it is to do a total reinstall.more replies

I down loaded the service manual I'm a little confused with the listing of processors that are all amd (ref pages 85,86) this model cpu is a intel. Are these AMD's compatible to INTEL ? TY
Hi: The service manuals listed on your notebook's support page do not match the processor or chipset your notebook comes with. This is the service manual that pertains to the Celeron 900 processor and chipset your notebook has... http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01740724 Note: Because your notebook has the Celeron processor, that means it has the GL-40 chipset and the only other processor you can install from the list in that manual is the T3400. As you can see from the chipset specs below, only processors with a 667 MHz FSB are supported, and the T3400 is the only one on that list in the manual that has a 667 MHz FSB. http://ark.intel.com/products/35501/Intel-82GL40-Graphics-and-Memory-Controller-Hub1 more replies

Good day to everybody. i'd like to ask for your advice or opinion re: my computer trouble.
I have a Compaq Presario Desktop (5000 series) who has been consistently having intermittent power on and off problems. I will be able to use it one day, and then the following day, it just wont turn on! I already had it checked by numerous technicians, but they can't seem to find anything wrong with the computer because when they turn it on, the computer powers on. I bring it home and then, a few days after, it just refuses to turn on again!
I had every aspect of the computer checked and observed. Power source is ok. The AVR is new and works when i use it with other devices. RAM is working fine. I dont know what to do anymore! I know something is wrong with it but the technicians can't put their finger on it. I had one technician who told me that the motherboard is short-circuiting with the casing so he put foam/insulator all around! *Sigh, I dont know if that is even possible, not to mention logical...
I hope any of you guys and girls out there could help me out.. I will be extremely grateful for any suggestions that you could give. THank you very much.
could be a problem with the power coming out of the wall..can you connect to a different outlet..

We bought two Compaq lap tops for our kids at the same time. One has never really held a charge very long on the battery. Battery went completly dead, will not even start with the power cord that still works. Is there an intrenal battery that needs changed?
Did you try removing the battery, yet keeping the adapter plugged in and booting? There is no internal battery - but if the laptop won't start with just the cord, then typically it's a larger hardware issue (motherboard, bad component, etc.)

Hello tech guys out there!
I am having this issue with my Compaq Presario R4000. Whenever I have been using my laptop for more than 15-20 min, the ac adapter will not charge propertly. I will keep blinking on the power light as well as the start buttton light. But if I were to turn off the laptop and plug in the AC, it will charge normally again. Any idea what would be causing this issue?
I am thinking it could be motherboard issue that controls the charging but it is really wierd. Anyone had this issue before, please share with me how you resolve it? It might also be the DC port.....
Any comments or suggestion would be appreciated.
BTW, I am also looking for 2gb ram PC 2700 for my laptop. If anyone has these for sale, please email me at email@example.com
is the computer new? and do you know anyone that has a adapter like yours so you could make sure it's not the adapter
Well, I'm guessing power supply here? When I hit the power button, no fan, nothing, just a slight "clicking" noise and the flashing yellow (some say orange) light. From what I've read it sounds like the power supply went belly up. How do I know: 1) which power supply to get to replace this one, and 2) is it worth it? I bought it second hand for $40 about 1-1/2 years ago so there is no shame in it, just not sure whether I should put any $$ in it at this point. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Newbie to this site, but hope you guys/gals can help me out. I've had this laptop for about 4 years and ironically, the extended warranty ran out only 3 weeks ago.
This evening I turned on the laptop for about 15 mins and noticed the power light indicator was blinking on and off. Soon smoke started to come from the power/network port area and the system immediately shutdown. I immediately pulled the AC adapter out and allowed the system to cool. Upon disassembling the laptop, I could not find any burns on the board near the power/network port area. Is it safe then to turn on the laptop again? Anyway to isolate what caused the problem?
2. The AC Adapter has been problematic for awhile. It appears to be loose and will sometimes cause the laptop to auto shutdown due to loss of power. I often to jiggle this wire to allow it continue to provide power. How do I test if the problem is w/ the pin on the m/board or the external adapter?
3. The battery on the laptop has also not been working on its own for awhle. When ever I pull the battery out, it shows that a little bit of juice on the indicator, but when I remove the adapter and let the laptop run on the battery alone, it shuts down w/in 2-3 minutes. How can I test to see if the battery is still fully functional?
I really don't want to have to take the laptop into a service center so they can screw me over w/ diag costs and unnecessary parts - so any advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks!... Read more

When I power on my Compaq Presario, the screen remains black, the key next to the power button is orange, the Caps Lock key is blinking and a light blinks above the "home, end, num lock keys", in the upper portion of the keyboard. I have tried taking out the battery, unplugging the power and holding the power button for 60 seconds, before trying it again, and I am not getting anything...HELP!!
Try re-seating the Ram. If that doesn't help remove the Cmos battery for a few minutes then put it back, it looks like a silver coin and should be visible near the ram.
I have a HP Presario CQ62 notebook that just totally died.
I closed it up after using it normally, came back and opened the lid and it was dead. No lights, not even power supply indicator light. Nothing happens when the power button is pushed of course.
I thought and hoped it was a faulty power supply and a flat battery, but I have a spare power supply so this was able to be ruled out.
Not that it's relevant here, but it's running Windows 7 64 bit.
Anyone got any ideas where to look for a solution to this? As it won't fire up on battery or power it has to be after those.

I've done some of my own research and I've (tentatively) found this list of allegedly compatible processors in the maintainence manual for my laptop; however, I have some questions and concerns. Here are a select few of the ones that are supposedly compatible with my specific system: Intel Core i7-620M Processor (4M cache, 2.66 GHz, SC turbo up to 3.33 GHz) 587259-001Intel Core i5-540M Processor (3M cache, 2.53 GHz, SC turbo up to 3.06 GHz) 594188-001Intel Core i5-520M Processor (3M cache, 2.4 GHz, SC turbo up to 2.93 GHz) 594187-001Intel Core i5-430M Processor (3M cache, 2.26 GHz, SC turbo up to 2.53 GHz) 597624-001Intel Core i3-350M Processor (3M cache, 2.26 GHz) 597623-001Intel Core i3-330M Processor (3M cache, 2.13 GHz) 597622-001Intel Penryn T4300 Processor (3M cache, 2.1 GHz) (for model 1.1 only) 572929-001Intel Penryn T3100 Processor (3M cache, 1.9 GHz) (for model 1.1 only) 572925-001Intel Penryn T4400 Processor (3M cache, 2.2 GHz) (for models 1.1 and 1.2 only) 584296-001Intel Penryn T3300 Processor (3M cache, 2.0 GHz) (for models 1.1 and 1.2 only) 592399-001Pentium Arrandale P6000 Processor (3M cache, 1.86 GHz) (for models 1.1 and 1.2 only) 613586-001Pentium Arrandale P6100 Processor (3M cache, 2.0 GHz) (for model 1.2 only) 613587-001Intel Penryn T4500 Processor (3M cache, 2.3 GHz) (for model 1.1 on... It's more complicated than that. You have a GL40 DDR2 motherboard in that machine and it will only accept the Celeron or Pentium processors. You have to look at both the motherboard and the processor. This is one of the more confusing Service manuals HP has ever published because this series straddles a major hardware change....some use DDR2 and some use DDR3 memory, some use Core 2 Duo era processors and some use the i-series type processors.2 more replies
I hope this is the correct forum. If not, please put me where I belong. Thank you.
My new laptop (Compaq Presario CQ62-215DX Windows 7) will be used for running genealogy CD, DVD etc and for inputting (and backing-up) my family history research data.
I don't want to be connect to the internet. How do I configure the settings, please?
The Legacy.com program on my main computer does have a geo location function but I won't need to use it on my laptop. Therefore, I think I'm okay in choosing not to have internet access on the laptop? Or am I wrong?
Thank you for any help with this.
PS This forum has been extremely helpful for other issues that I've resolved on my own with the advice given to others.
Welcome to TSG
I have moved to the networking forum
You can just disable the Network Adapters - in device manager
Switch off the wireless - I suspect the laptop has a physical switch or a combination of FN + one of the F keys to toggle the wireless on/off
and DONT connect with a network cable to the router/modem
This laptop keeps shutting down every once in a while. Sometimes every few minutes or every few half hours. Blue terrible screen appears but i am desperate becauce it doesn't last for more than a microsecond so i totally cannot read what it displays and so i don't even know what the problemis :(
It started just very rarely, when i was playing graphically demanding game. Then it worsened when i started using video calling on skype. I reinstalled the operating system (Windows 7) via recovery manager (i have a recovery disc) and it worked better for about a week time, then it worsened and now it was restarting and showing the blue screen every 7 minutes approximately.
I again reinstalled the Windows by the same precodure but there's been one crash already again.
Could you please tell me how to at least identify the problem? How can i make the screen last longer and see what the hell's going on? And then, how could i possibly mend the problem? What could be the cause? Is hardware or software issue? It used to crash only when doing something more "graphical" but now it occures whenever, even when i do literally nothing with it! Please help; i am just a totally PC lame girl :(((( if there are specifications neccessary, i would give, if you only tell me how to find and tell you...
Hello annie55 and welcome to TSF,
Tap F8 immediately after the Compaq screen. This should bring up the advanced boot options menu.
Select "Disable automatic restart on system failure".
This will cause the BSOD to stay on screen until you physically restart the computer.
Post back with the details of the BSOD.

So basically after 2 months of not using my laptop (due to not having a charger) I ordered a new charger, keyboard and stick of ram. Put them in my laptop and for some reason the laptop wont turn on...
When the battery and power supply is in the led blinks continuously, which apparently means insufficient power, but i've left it to charge for hours and still no luck.
When the power supply is out the laptop is completely dead, no lights or sounds as I mash the power button.
Sometimes when i move the charger around (brand new x.x) the white led light next to the charger bit will flash white and then orange, and as soon as that happens I press the power button and it will turn on... but only for literally half a second and then switch back off again (fans turn on etc) and sometimes the screen will light up. On one or two occasions i've managed to turn it on somehow with the fans spinning etc but absolutely no life with the screen... i've left it in that state for an hour the second time i managed it and nothing happened.
I have tried taking the ram out that i put in, aswell as the keyboard but it is still exactly the same. Tried re-seating the ram that was already there and still no luck
Seeing as i'm a computer noob I rang up a computer repair shop thing and they said it is most likely a problem with the motherboard which would cost me over £150...
Anyone have any idea what this is most likely to be and possible solutions? Warranty has expired... Th... Read more

Hi: Microsoft does not allow PC manufacturers to provide downloads of OEM versions of Windows. PC manufacturers have to supply physical recovery media. It does not appear that HP supplies recovery media anymore for your model. You can still get a set of W7 recovery disks from this non-HP vendor at the link below. DVD's only. HP did not offer USB recovery media for your model. http://www.computersurgeons.com/p-20996-windows-7-64b-recovery-kit-618139-001-for-compaq-presario-no...1 more replies
After doing research it turns out that my notebook PC has some kind of "hard hang" issue in which my laptop becomes unresponsive. 7/24/13
So apparently the only time my notebook DOESN'T freeze is when my laptop gets hot, but when my laptop isn't getting warm that's when it starts to become unresponsive/crash. 7/31/13
I've owned a Compaq Pressario CQ62-225NR notebook for almost 3 years now and I've haven't had any problems with the laptop until now. While I was on vacation in Rhode Island the laptop would freeze/crash about 5-20 minuets in use and I immediately thought it was bad memory. When the laptop does crash/freeze I'm not able to move the mouse cursor nor does the lights on the caps lock, num lock, or scroll lock respond when I press their key. When I got back from Rhode Island I opened up the laptop's RAM slot, took out the memory, re-seated the memory, and started up my laptop. Same thing happened, so this time I tried to re-arrange the memory and even use other memory from my other laptops and still kept on crashing. I took the original RAM for the laptop, put it back in, and ran a memory diagnostics.
After finishing the memory diagnostics it showed that there was nothing wrong with the Laptop memory whatsoever. I then re-booted my laptop and used some of the HP diagnostics that you can use when you hit esc during boot-up and ran a full diagnostic on the laptop. The diagnostics showed that everything was working properly and I then im... Read more
Does it always freeze/crash at the same approximate time? I mean like..... after running 5 minutes say? Or is it completely random? I'm "looking" at the graphics card myself. I'm sure its probably integrated in your machine which is not good news. I may be wrong though!
Welcome to the forums by the way!
It is my understanding that when unplugging this laptop, u should unplug from the wall before the laptop. If the pc is off, does it matter which order to unplug?? I would like to leave the wall plug connected and undo the laptop end as it is in an easier to reach place. Any thoughts? Thanks.
You should be fine just unplugging at the laptop. Think about what happens when you use a docking station. You simply remove the laptop from the dock. The power remains on to the dock. There's no reason you can't simply unplug from the laptop and leave the power brick plugged in, other than wasting a bit of electricity ...
My Compaq CQ62-209WM was working great until a couple of weks ago. When I turned it on the screen stayed black, the caps lock light blinks once every 5 seconds, and the wifi light stays orange. Read on this forum of others with similar problems.I tried a hard reset and it worked the first time, long enough for me to back up the important stuff on my hard drive, but did not work the second time (or any time I have tried it since then). One blink indicates CPU failure so I ordered a new CPU and thermal material, dismanteled the unit and replaced the CPU and thermal material this evening. Still have black screen and blinking lights - still one blink every 5 seconds. Tried hard reset, no change.Any suggestions? Not able to replace computer at this time - willing to try almost anything. Thanks in advance.
Hi @micwtx , Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue about your Compaq Presario CQ62-209WM Notebook and issues with the flashing lights and not starting correctly. Here is a link to computer does not start. It has the LED blinking codes and suggests that it could be your System Board. Have you tried to reseat the memory and HDD? (it is in the document) Please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices, as these could cause some issues. Plug the power adapter directly into a functioning wall outlet. Do not plug it into a power strip, surge protector, or secondary power source as this could cause and issue.Hope this helps you. Thanks.6 more replies
Hi, My Computer a Compaq Presario SR1810NX with Windows XP Home Edition SP2 is having an issue with it wont get past the Compaq Logo Screen, like, I press the power button the PC powers on, Fan Speeds up and then slows down as normal, keyboard lights flash as normal and the Compaq Logo along with the v3.48 and ESC = Boot Menu options appear on screen, the things is that it wont get past this screen, it just sits there at the Compaq screen, the keyboard and mouse dont seem to be interacting with the PC since I press ESC or F10 for boot mode or system recovery but the PC wont answer at all, I've already Disconnected power source unplugged mouse, keyboard all but PC is doing the same thing just sitting at the Compaq Logo Screen, the computer doesnt make any sound at all no beeps or anything, it wont let me access Windows at any time, recent installations well could be that I just installed a Mobile Bandwidth Card just a couple of weeks ago, and also just a few days ago I connected my iPod Shuffle 2nd Gen to the computer and the computer wont recognize it at all, not even charging, I know this might be a virus or malicious software, but my computer has barely connected to the internet in the last weeks (I couldn't pay the Internet and I had to use my friend's Mobile Bandwidth Card I mentioned before) all I did while in Internet with the Mobile Bandwidth was some schoolwork and youtube videos, I need help urgently with this since I have to deliver a very important proyect for scho... Try a power drain.
1. Unplug power cord
2. Hold power button in for 60 seconds or more then let go
3. Plug in power cord
4. turn on the power and try to boot to setup (BIOS)
If it enters the BIOS then you should be able to just press F5 to reset to defaults and then F10 to save and exit. The PC should work now.
However, if after the power drain you still can not get in the BIOS than there is a MAJOR problem which would require some type of repair.
i dont know anything about computers so i will need a detailed explanation and i need to know how to fix it!! it just stays on the compaq screen
Before the problem started was anything added to or installed on the system?
Try booting to Last Known Good or Safe Mode.
Restart the computer during the boot process repeatedly tap "F8" you should get
the Advanced Options.
Let us know if able to get the system to boot with either option.

How do you access the Bios on a Compac Presario 4110. I keep getting the message 162 Sytems Options not set. 163 Time and Date not set. Having visited Compac they were not a lot of help. Downloading the software recommeded by them was a waste of time, still got the above message. Tried all the usual keystrokes etc no good. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have purchased a Compaq Presario 600 with an Athlon XP 2200+ processor. I do not have a copy of Windows XP to wipe it with. Is there any way with the installed XP that I can refresh this system and remove data frome previous owners? Or Can I load Win 98?
Compaqs usually have a hidden partition with all the factory loaded software on it in an image format. As long as it does and you can figure out how to access it you could probable do that - but you almost likely need the XP Product key and may need to reactivate XP after the recovery. XP can only be install on one machine at a time - so if they are still using it you are out of luck.
Watch the boot up for any recovery messages or take a trip to www.Compaq.com and look up the info for your make/model.
I friend of mine purchased this Presario in 2004. She hasn't had internet since about 2006, so she hasn't had any of the updates since then. I brought her tower home with me since I have internet to load her updates. We're trying to get it internet ready. When I brought it home last week nothing would open. So yesterday she gave me the system recovery disc. I started with the Standard Recovery, but there were too many files that it couldn't recover. So I then decided to do a full recovery. After the full recovery it was rebooting and it told me that not all the system could reload and I couldn't hit okaybecause it wouldn't read / acknowledge my mouse. So, I unhooked her computer and rehooked mine to see what her alternatives were. I found a website, they wanted to know all the things it wouldn't oload. All I can remember is that it was things that could me downloaded later like: Norton, AOL, Adobe, MSN, and QuickTime.
So, I unhoked mine and rehooked her's up (and booted up my laptop). When her's came back up it's saying: NTLDR is missing Pres Control + Alt +Delete to Restart
My question for you is there anyway I can save her conputer? She doesn't have a lot of funds, being a singe mother of a 7 yr old and I'm just a good friend trying to help her out.
Thank you in advance for any help you can provide
I decided to see what happened when I ctrl alt delete and then decided to do another recovery. Here's some more info (could not recover errors):

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. IF this screen appears again, follow these steps:

If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any windows updates you might need.

ok I hace a compaq that is all messed up. lets see one day the monitor would not work after a storm. Bought another, For a while the screen would be blue but change back to normal. The pc also would have a hard time starting up after it was in idle. We would do a hard start and for a while that worked. Now when I try to start it it turns on but the monitor says no vga/dvi input. There is also none of the preverable beeps that are supposed to be there so in short (well long)the motherboard is fried? So do I use it as a planter in the yard or is there a way to get it up and running. It runs on XP media center it has a micro ATX form factor motherboard it is also an AMD 64 Anthlon. ram is 256 mb 1Rx16 pc 4200 ddr2 533 mhz. With all that said can I just replace the motherboard and reinstall the reinstallation disks and be up and running? ( if it could only be so easy) What about the cpu. i know many questions here thanks for patients. Please help me. Tina
does your system have agp or pciex (or even pci) slot free? Is the graphics on board? It sounds like a graphics card problem, even if it is onboard. I'd try a replacement card (even if it's just a pci card) and see what happens...
I am trying to install a Cyberdrive x16x12x40 CD-RW into a Compaq Presario 5000 series PC. If no other device is attached to either the IDE or to the power supply, and if the CD-RW isn't attached to the IDE then power will get to the CD-RW. If the CD-RW is attached to the IDE and/or any other device is attached then no power goes to the CD-RW.
Can anyone shed any light on why this is and how I can fix it.
