I never had this problem before until recently I noticed that my fan was making this loud buzzing noise. It was bearable at first. I thought that the fan might be dusty inside because I haven't cleaned it ever since I bought it. Last week, I tried to open the laptop so I can check why it is making that loud noise. I saw that the fan was dirty. I tried cleaning it. When I turned on my laptop, it was still making that loud buzzing noise. So I just ignored it. After a week, It suddenly got louder. It didn't sound normal anymore. I tried restarting the laptop but it still makes that noise. Its annoying. I took a video so you can hear what my fan is making.  It just keeps doing like this even if my laptop is just on stanby, like I'm not doing anything with it. This is what it sounds like when I did the Dust Removal tool on Energy Management.   Since I kept using the Dust Removal tool.. Now its making this weird noise, like the fan is getting stuck on something. I don't know what to do anymore. Its been 2 years since I bought this laptop so I don't have anymore warranty and I never had problems with my laptop except for today. I have never dropped it so I don't know why this is happening to my laptop. Please help me.

A:Lenovo Y510P fan making really loud noise.

Hi there, Xbelleh -
Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

This video would leave me to believe that a piece of paper or other debris shifted inside and is now coming in contact with the fan blades.

When you use the dedusting cycle the debris is temporarily being blown out of the way of the blades.  What I would do is use a can of compressed air and blow out the fan assembly from both directions and see what is blown out.  Compress air is available at any office supply store, electronics store or big box discount store.  When using the compressed air use short bursts as an extended burst may damage the fan's bearings from over revving.

Also, when using the laptop take note of its position.  If the fan is quiet on a flat surface, but is noisy when sitting at an angle like on your lap.  That might be a good indication that the fan bearings are failing.

Worst case scenario is you need a fan replacement.  The fan is something that the owner can replace if you are comfortable working inside it.

As a do-it-yourself project it can be fixed in an afternoon. At this point I would try the compress air and we'll go from there.

Update us how it goes.

From about 3 weeks ago, my Lenovo Y510p (GT 750M Sli, purchased in 2013) started to make this weird grinding/buzzing sound at random times on the CPU side of the fan. It was barely noticeable if I had headphones on at first, but starting from the second week the noise and vibration of it grew louder. After doing some research for possible fixes, I have tried the method openining Energy Management and running the Dust Removal feature to temporary solve the problem. However, that method only worked for about a week, and starting from the third week the buzzing remains very consistent even after I run Dust Removal several times. Does anyone here know what is the problem exactly? I know for other models, people have been able to solve the problem by updating their BIO driver provided by the website. But all Y510p users seen to have that problem early enough to just get a refund or send it back for exchange/repairment using their then still active warranty. I would like to know if there's any way that I can fix this without having to spend money for the fix when it is proven it is the company side issue since even fresh new purchases of the same model ran into the same exact problem within days.

Okay here are the details:Windows 10 HomeIdeapad Y510P, only a few years oldworks perfectly finebattery at 0%, plugged-in not chargingoriginal battery and power cordsI can't remember how to get this message to pop up again, but I remember it saying something along the lines of 'Lenovo does not support batteries they didn't make so we are going to pretend you don't have one in'. I have the same battery and charger that came with the computer. I've tried messing with the settings and taking the battery out and putting it back in. I've been to the BIOs screen and looked around. I've searched through forms and everything. I'm about to just buy a new battery for it and see if that fixes it. But I'd like to know what happened so I can prevent it from happening again. Did the battery just get too old and decide to die on me? It's been very frustrating.

My battery keeps jumping from 40% to 7% within a matter of minutes. I tried resetting my battery but the battery won't go to 100% charged to be able to reset it (it only charges to 99%). How do I fix my batter if I cannot fully charge the battery and then fully discharge the battery?

Some day I was using my laptop and then left it on for a while because I have to do something else (I left it for about two hours). When I came back the laptop was dead (at least I thought that because it was not charging the battery nor starting up with the charger plugged in). A couple of days after that I tested the laptop again, plugged in the charger and it was charging again the battery. I could start the system fine. After a reboot the system was not charging again, but the battery had some charge so I could start the laptop again. In summary, there's not problem with the battery (there is power going from the battery to the motherboard), there is no power going from the charger to the battery (sometimes it does, sometimes don't, but the most times don't). With the battery unplugged and the charger plugged in there is no power going to the motherboard. battery and no charger -> ok, power to the motherboardbattery + charger -> sometimes works, but almost neverno battery, only charger -> does not work Power jack tested and it's ok. Charger tested and it's ok. Also trackpad stopped working, windows does not recognize it. Thanks for your help and sorry for the long post.

Hi, maybe it was already posted but little had no results so i'm opening another message - there is no fix. I have Y510P with Windows 8.1 alomost a year (still have waranty). For now I'm using Battery Gauge Reset several times. The last time appear a problem. I started Battery Gauge Reset and when the PC goes 0% it power off and I can't power on it. After some struggle i found a way to charge it; I have to follow these steps exactly:1. Turn the machine off2. Remove the battery3. Remove power cable from the laptop4. Remove the powercable from the socket5. Insert the cable in socket6. Insert the cable in laptop7. Start the laptop8. Insert the battery while the laptop is starting Then I start to search a solution. I tryed everyting that I found. I already measured my voltage on the power adapter and that seems to work properly, reset BIOS to default setting, power off the PC and hold down power button for 20-30 seconds, reinstall Lenovo Energy Management, charge battery and disharge (from this acticle http://mobilesupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/ideapad-y-series-laptops/ideapad... ), remove battery and uninstall windows battery driver then insert battery back. Nothing helped! Is there a fix for this problem or I have to go to service?

A:Y510P not charging after Battery Gauge Reset

Hi guys. I try with my car power supply for PC and it works. When I put car power supply to Y510P it alarm me for high current drain for a 1 second and then alarm power off and PC and car power supply works fine. When I put AC power supply it doesnt work but after it have no DC voltage on the out. I have to unplug it from wall soccet and plug it again to works. I think that AC power supply have any high current safety system and power off the voltage.  Maybe problem is in battery.

I have a lenovo ideapad y510p and everything was fine until for I thought I'd do the battery reset in the lenovo energy management,at first the battery was dead and laptop wouldnt turn on,,I found one way around this which is that first I take the battery out and then insert the ac adapter, the laptop turns on then I put it in hibernate while I insert battery after which it seems to charge but only after I do these steps, but if I take the adapter out and insert it back in,it would stop charging.this is all because of the lenovo energy management software battery reset.I've uninstalled it but it doesnt work.any suggestions?I'm guessing one of the steps after full charge during the battery reset the battery gets drained where it says "plugged in and not charging" until it reaches zero is the problem.

Hi all. I would like to ask you about the battery discharging process while having thresholds applied. I have them set to 50/90 with the 9-cell battery. On Ubuntu, once the upper threshold has been reached the battery stays at that threshold forever, provided AC is plugged in. The other scenario is that if the charge is within the range specified by these thresholds (so [50,90]) and I plug it in, it does not charge it (which is good) but it does not discharge it either (is that good too?). Now, my question is - should it be working like that or should it stop charging the battery and let it reach the lower threshold, after which it would charge it up to the upper threshold, which would essentially be a kind of hysteresis loop? Which would be better for extending the battery's lifespan? Thanks,Przemek

My company bought these notebooks for some of our products and we install Ubuntu 12.04LTS on them.  When we shut them down and try to charge them it doesn't work.   The light beside charging port is on (like it is charging), but cannot turn on computer after hours of "charging" because the batteries are drained.  It looks like it charges fine when the computers are turned on and charging, but not when we try to charge them without turning them on. We are wondering if this is some known issue and what would be correct procedure for charging these netbooks?

A:HP 210 G1 notebook with UBUNTU doesn't charge battery

Hey, Bit of a late answer, but I'll submit it in case anyone else has a similar issue. There is an issue with one of the BIOS version on the 210 G1, BIOS version F.03. If this is not updated to the most current version you'll find your batteries will drain quite quickly and will not charge properly. Also as your running Ubuntu, you may need to use the UEFI tool from HP to update the BIOS, here it's called the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics 3 in 1 USB Key: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/campaigns/hpsupportassistant/pc-diags.html?jumpid=va_r602_us/en/any/pps/pl_... Best of luck.

I would like to share my experiences how to fix noisy audio output on Dell Optiplex 755 under linux. I did try changing power supply, better video card, adding separate sound card (front panel audio output doesn't work then) updating drivers and even changing the whole computer. I was first sure that the reason for the noise must be old capacitors somewhere in the system board or in the power supply. It took me months to find the solution.
The symptoms are: static noise on audio even if there should be no sound at all. The noise doesn't depend on the audio volume.
The solution: open terminal, start alsamixer. HDA Intel Analog Devices AD1984 should open. Use right cursor key to scroll the screen until Beep audio level adjust is selected. Lower the volume of Beep down. This should fix the noisy output.  I set the Beep volume to 6%.Apparently Beep sound output produces low level noise even if no beep sound is produced. If Beep volume is adjusted to high in alsamixer, this noise is amplified and added to the audio mix.

I purchased my laptop on october in 2015. Recently the fan has started making noise and heating. As a result of this battery also drains very fast (it takes hardly 40 minutes to drain fully charged laptop). Sometimes, when I restart the laptop the problem does not occur. Also the battery drains fast only when the fan makes noise and laptop is heated.  It has been only 10 months and  the laptop has started developing such issues.

A long title indeed, but it pretty much sums it all up. I have installed Ubuntu first and then dual booted windows XP. I soon found out that the fact Ubuntu wasn't compatible with many programs (even through wine) I wanted only Windows XP on my pc.
I've searched many topics, but all described how to uninstall Ubuntu when Windows was the primary OS. In my case Ubuntu is the main OS and it dual boots with Windows and I want to rid myself of Ubuntu leaving only Windows.

What do I need to do to get the desired computer setup? Or is it irrelevant which OS was installed first and will a guide describing how to remove Ubuntu from windows work as well for my case.

Important addition: I could very well be the biggest computer-noob you've encountered thus far. So talk to me as though I am 4 year old

A:Uninstalling Ubuntu dual-booting Windows XP with Ubuntu installed first

shouldn't matter the install sequence if you want to only have Windows. Boot into Windows and then delete (from disk management) the linux partitions. This may leave your computer in a state where you can not boot into Windows. To fix this you'll have to boot off the XP install disk and boot to the recovery console, once there type 'fixmbr' without the '

Acer Desktop PC Model: AM1610
sis ethernet adapter
webstar dpx 2000 series cable modem

After setting up a dual boot system successfully,
Vista connects to internet via ethernet, Ubuntu does not.

sis ethernet driver is updated to latest version

I can access the internet from Ubuntu however, after shutting down the pc, unplugging the power cord, removing the cmos battery and reinstalling. I reinsert the power cord and boot up as normal into Ubuntu, and have full access to internet.

Simply removing/reinserting ethernet cord, removing/reinserting pc or cable modem power cord, or resetting cable modem, does not work.

I am asking if there is a solution as to where I can log off Vista and restart pc into Ubuntu and have internet access automatically, bypassing all these steps I've explained?

After perusing multiple forums where people have described similar if not same issues, I've yet to find a solution to this.

I ran ipconfig in Vista and have the results. I ran ifconfig in Ubuntu 9.10 and have the results.

As these results may contain information that can present a vulnerability regarding system/ip identification, I have omitted them here.

If needed, I will respond via personal message with the contents.

Thank you in advance for your continued contributions in aiding the computer world "handicapped".

I recently installed Ubuntu 10.04 on my HP Mini 110-1116NR, then deleted the partitions that had Ubuntu on them, not knowing that Ubuntu comes with GRUB2, and sets itself as the default boot for that system. Hello Konstantinov, and welcome to Windows Seven Forums!

Baisically, you just need to delete the two Ubuntu partitions, then restore the bootmgr from Windows 7. Please look these over and post back any questions?

After my friend's laptop wouldn't run on battery power OR charge the battery I tried many "fixes."

Shockingly none worked that I found.

Only one thing worked for me to my surprise.

A last ditch effort was to open up the laptop (sony pcg-81114L) and disconnect the cmos battery for a few minutes to reset the CMOS.

To my surprise, when powered on, the battery instantly showed it was charging AND when removing the power plug the battery POWERS the laptop now! (and I'd thought I was wasting my time.)

Worked with an off brand battery also.

Many times this has saved many computers that have odd "unsolvable" things wrong with them.

Surely someone else has done this also but I haven't seen it posted anywhere to my knowledge.

Thank GOD for bringing the idea to remembrance!

Then i got my computer back, NOTHING CHANGED, same problems and all, what should i do?!  I have already soft-reseted, reseted bios and reseted whole system, nothing works!  Could you please be in touch with the store i bought it from, because I want my money back for not-working laptop worth 1200e in my country. They said that i need to send my computer back to warranty, for another 1.5 month journey (what is over what they promised, they said 10-15 workdays)  PLEASE HELP ME! anything but not another warranty trip! I also have very good video of the problem if you want me to send it to you.  My model is the one with 750M and 24gb ssd cache.

A:Overclocking GPU and CPU in y510p

If you use the Intel Xtreme Tuning utility you can adjust the multipliers but that is all. The CPU already runs way to hot (and throttles as a result) so overclocking it will only make it worse. I did the opposite and undervolted mine so not only does it run cooler but it doesn't throttle anymore so it actually runs faster then a stock one.

I installed Windows 10 last year and had to uninstall it due to wi-fi connectivity dropping.   Searching the internet, this seemed to be a frequent problem and Lenova did not support Windows 10 for the Y510P and did not provide drivers. I really liked windows 10 and would love to go back to it.    Is anyone running it, and how did you resolve the wi-fi connectivity issue?    I see on the Lenova Website they still don't list Windows 10 for this model.    Too bad.  Makes me really dislike Lenova products when they don't support OS upgrades.

Hey, I bought Lenovo y510p laptop like 2 weeks ago. It is the SLI version of the y510p. The laptop worked just fine when I was playing with it, ran CSGO and Skyrim on Ultra settings over 60 fps. Couple days ago, my friend broke my charger, and I went to Walmart to buy a new one. I bought the Duracell charger which is 90 watts and it was compatible with my laptop. Then I plugged it in, and tried to play csgo but the fps was like from 5 to 15. I have no idea how this happened. I also took off my battery and just tried to play it without it and just charging the laptop, and when I opened csgo the laptop shut down. I already made virus tests and there was nothing in the viruses. A:Lenovo y510p slow fps

My guess is that the Charger may not be compatible with that laptop....90watts yes but has it got the correct DC output.

Also you didn't say how your original charger got broken. like was it attached to the laptop at the time?

What could be happening is..when you plug the new power supply in it is not the correct power your PC expects so it disregards it and runs off the battery at lower everything. As when you take the battery out it will not run at all. Easy place for damage is where the power plug goes into the laptop.

Can any of you guys suggest any tips to correct this?  Thanks in advance  EDIT: Does installing the OS on the 24 GB SSD affect the gaming performance in any way? Also I was wondering if I can install a M.2 SSD. My laptop is still in warranty, I didn't open it. If yes, is worthy for daily use to sell my Sandisk ssd for a M2 ssd? Thanks!

I have been getting a lot of "pauses" of late. Not hard on "freezes" but more of super long delays, causing me to force shutdown when I get desperate. I'm thinking that the hard drive might be failing, and so looking at getting a new hard drive, and finding someone to replace it. Ether having what can be kept copied onto the new hard drive, or perhaps put onto an external hard drive. I was hoping someone could give me insight/suggestion for this. I purchased the laptop around 3 years ago, and all warranties expired last year. ~~~~~ Lately, I will notice programs will stop responding. When I look at the Task Manager, it will show "Firefox (Not Responding)" for example, I can try and end task, but that has no immediate effect. If I try to open up anything else, it too "pauses" and may take a LONG time to open up. Messing with the task manager too much will cause it too, to stop responding for a long time. Eventually, Firefox will close, and things start behaving as normal. Though this can take 5+ minutes to never to solve its issue. I decided to check the event viewer and I'm seeing a lot of: Reset to device, \Device\RaidPort0, was issued. The device, \Device\Harddisk1\DR1, has a bad block. - This "pausing" has happened to me the last two times I've tried writing this post. Found a possible fix (workaraound) of the famous screen flicker problem. I've tried all of the proposed fixes found anywhere on the web and nothing worked for more than 5 minutes. I also sent it to be serviced, came back even worse. The screen would go crazy when showing high contrast images with a lot of black. The flicker was most prominent when testing the pixel-walk(inversion) on this website:http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/inversion.phpIf you have the same problem, try applying pressure on the LCD frame in one of the corners. In my case the flicker went away. I put a piece of fabric between the plastic and the metal LCD frame and after some fiddling I managed to find a sweet spot with no flicker. My laptop is y510p with 755M SLI and FullHD screen.Try at your own risk!Cheers

A:y510p screen flicker FIX!

Ok, I have an update. The flickering can be fixed with a bit of DIY. There's a band cable attaching the display circuit to the metal frame holding the LCD. This band is glued with some sort of conductive glue that goes bad over time, messing up the electronics somehow, I guess preventing the capacitors from discharging properly, dunno.Try and make your own conductive band, I made mine using aluminum tape, it works very well. No flicker noticeable for over a week.Once again, try at your own risk.

I know next to zero about RAM consideration for optimal compability/performance. I uploaded two images of the currently installed RAM cards. There are still 2 slots available, could someone point me to recommended/compatible RAM cards? (If I can order it from amazon, the better). Thank you for the support.?

Hey, I know there are already a few topics with the same subject, however none have the exact same situation as mine as most are US based. I too have a powerful Lenovo Y510P SLI with a Intel Centrino N2230 wifi card. I am buying a new router for my student room and since I want to buy things that can last for a few years, opted for a wifi AC router (probably an Asus one). But, this laptop won't support it... I looked in the technical maintaince manual to find which wifi cards are supported for the Y510P, there is one Wifi AC card for the Y410P, but according to various posts will also work in the Y510P as they share the same BIOS whitelist. I don't want to flash the BIOS with a custom modded one which removes the whitelist. (I flashed a desktop Asus motherboard to run OSX, went great, runs well, but I can't experiment with this laptop, need it for university.). So I Googled and Ebayed the partnumer and this one came up: Ebay Link, which says "Only for Lenovo/IBM laptops such as Y510P" should be fine right? Only thing is it is 40 USD, Dutch customs will charge 21% on top of it so that makes 48 USD, and the Dutch postal office will charge anywhere between 15-20 USD for paperwork for importing goods. So that makes an total of 68 USD... so that almost doubles the cost of the upgrade...  I used the FRU number for this card: WLAN, WiFi AC+BT4.0, Ltn BCM4352+20702 2x2AC+BT4.0 HMC which is 20200381, and put in the search engine in the "part number" ... So I have a Lenovo Y510P IdeaPad, I upgraded it to Windows 10 last December and wanted to downgrade it back to Windows 8/8.1 due to some issues that many said are due to the fact that the model doesn't really support Windows 10 thus I experience the problems. However, since it has been more than a month from the upgrade, I can't just roll it back to previous OS and am wondering if there is any way I can find out what my original product key for the pre-activated Windows 8 so I can perform a clean reinstall with it.

If windows came pre-installed on your laptop, the key might be on its certificate of authenticity. Alternatively, you can obtain the key using third party softwares like ProduKey. It'll display the currently activated key on your system.

Hello there, I have had my IdeaPad Y510p Laptop - 59369999 for 2 years without any problems, until today.  I started watching a video & everything froze for a good 5 minutes.  I held the power button until my laptop shut down, when I turned it on it said "scanning and repairing drive c". It started up normally, I gave it time, moved the mouse once everything had loaded & it froze again. Then the screen went blank with the cursor working, then the cursor dissappeared. Does anyone know of this is a simple fix? Thank you!

My guess is that the hard drive is dying.  If it will start, try getting a copy of CrystalDiskInfo (free),  Otherwise, see if you can hook up the drive to another machine to test it and to get as much as you can off of it.

I?ve tried the typical startup repair and refresh from an installation media USB stick, and even the USB media takes forever to load and then hangs from screen to screen. Any ideas?  I also tried uninstalling the Intel display driver, then the Nvidia display driver and then I tried just installing the Nvidia driver (both the provided lenovo Nvidia driver and the newest 331.65). Hi all,

Last night, my keyboard suddenly decided it didn't want to work. The following keys rarely work (occasionally after hitting them a gazillion times): 0 (wow it worked just now), p (using on screen keyboard, now 0 is not working so I need onscreen to close these parentheses), colon/semicolon key, and slash/question mark key.

I really hoe this is not a hardware issue as this comuter isnt even 2 years old yet, and having a functioning keyboard is kind of essential. Esecially when some of the affected keys are in your assword... Not sure if the 4 affected keys are connected hysically and thats why theyre acting u together, or if this could have something to do with the fact that the issues arose immediately after some Windows udates.

I would immensely areciate any hel ! Thank you!

A:y510p - keyboard problem

Hi Imjustaguy ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Better to isolate hardware issue from software is to make the computer boot on a rescue media and try typing from it . Using an external USB keyboard and onscreen keyboard further isolate probability of a bad keyboard specially if same thing fails in BIOS (like test typing the affected letter in security password  but NOT to save it , for testing only) .

I have a Lenovo Y510p. My warranty expired over a year ago, but my screen recently broke. I've tried to repair it myself, but it still won't display properly. Every time I call Lenovo I get a message to "schedule a callback," and every time I go to schedule a callback the web site tells me I'm out of warranty and won't allow me to schedule a callback. Power cycling is the best way I can describe it. Approximately once a day, my y510p will power cycle all of its USB ports simultaneously, this is the two USB 3.0 ports as well as the USB 2.0 port (which makes things even stranger considering they are on separate controllers). I will lose connection to all devices (for me an external hard drive, USB 3.0 dock, and USB 2.0 mouse) and they will all come up again a moment later as just being plugged in. It is not the same time of day each day. My drivers are up to date. This occurred under Windows 8.1 64-bit and Windows 10 64-bit. There is also no correlation to whether there is a lot of data moving through the ports or if they are just idle.

I bought one of the first Lenovo IdeaPad y510p. Having a dual gpu made for a lot of gaming fun. Yesterday, the room filled up with the smell of an electrical burn. I checked the underside the Lenovo. It had been hotter. I heard workers outside my window and figured that the smell may come from them. A few minutes later very thick smoke came out of the left air vent and made a column in the air. I quickly pulled out the power cord and battery. Luckily, the house is still standing. I understand that electronics eventually fail. Yet, this seems unsafe and dangerous. What if I weren't in the room to act quickly? There should be some way to report this. The support page to send a message has been down with an under maintenance message for days.

Hi all, I have some problems with my Y510P, hope you guys can help me and pointing me in the right direction. A while back in February I decided to do a clean install of Windows 10 on my laptop. This was due to too much stuff on my PC and sometimes I would get random crashes (freezing at login-in screen from sleep, was the most common). Totally clean (no factory image reset (although I still have to partition) from USB disk created with Microsoft software). After that I installed the drivers, everything was working fine. When I put in the ultrabay GT755M, nVidia Geforce Centre could see two cards. Although I had actually no idea if the ultrabay card actually worked, in some games the air from that vent did get hottor.  Now the problems start:Yesterday I booted up my laptop, took some more time than usual. At login-screen I immediately noticed that the resolution had changed. I thought that was quite strange, it became even more strange when I got to the desktop. Strange artifacts would appear. So I opened Device Management in the configuration panel and it showed the 2 GT755M cards, one had a exclemation mark. It says: "this device has been stopped, problems have been reported, code 43". The Nvidia control panel didn't open and gave the message: "no display connected" which was quite strange, as my screen is still functioning. Also the sleep option disappeared from the start menu, I tried rebooting, didn't work.  After that I pulled out the ultrabay c... Read more

what i understood is that slot you got there isnt meant for a big SSD :/ so thats probably why os freezes some times it's a cache slot meant for small sized ssd cache drives if understood it right.

Hi there. I'm just hoping that I can find the solution as soon as possible. So I tried playing some casual games yesterday and all of a sudden the game froze and the image started tearing apart. Next thing you know it, the screen went blank. So I force shut down it and reboot, but after the Lenovo logo, the screen goes blank. There's a faint glow, but there's no image or cursor. Could it possibly be that the GPU crashed and there's no graphic to power the display? Or should I try entering Recovery Mode or Safe Mode to switch the display graphic to Intel HD? Besides, how do I enter Safe/Recovery Mode since I'm on Windows 10. Any help would be much appreciated.

Recently, my Y510p screen has begun to change some pixels colors (green and purple) based on how far I open the lid of the laptop. Currently, I cannot open the lid past approximately 90 degrees or the screen's color will change. Websites are still readable, I believe that it has something to do with the connections in the joints of the laptop, but I am not positive.

Here is a picture of the lenovo website with the issue occurring.

Some extra information:

Laptop Age: ~ 5 months
Never been dropped
College Use (Usually kept on desk in dorm room)
Light travel in backpack
Always closed lid on shutdown
I do have a warranty plan, if nothing can be done, worst case I can send my computer back.

If anyone else has been having this issue and been able to have it fixed, please chime in with what was causing your problems.

A:Y510p Screen Green at Certain Angles

Hello, I know this post is very old but I would love to know how you fixed the problem or if you returned the laptop. I have been having this problem for like 6 months or even more, but now it's become so bad that I almost have no LCD angle position where I don't get these pin/green/red dots. They move with the video or pictures and I believe there are only certain colors that trigger this problem. But now, it's become worse so I get this problem at nearly all the colors. I personally believe the problem is in the screen connector, because it depends on screen tilt position. Also, when this problem started, when I pressed the laptop near the LCD hinge on the right side, the dots disappeared or reduced. But now, almost nothing helps. There's just like 1 or 2 very precise LCD tilt positions where I get very less such green/red/pink dots.  This is my first post/reply and I had to make an account just to ask this question! Hoping to hear from you and the community.

I'm not sure of solution yet, but I would recommend predownloading the Windows 10 drivers from Intel's website before the upgrade. - So far drivers have not solved issue. Not sure of solution yet. Everything went smoothly for me. All fiels, programs, drivers, and settings transferred from my Windows 7 install to Windows 10 (and also from 8.1 to 10 on my Dell, so I assum it'll work on a Lenovo too). Upgrade process was painless and took about 20 minutes. Only temporary issue was video drivers, but that got solved later. Make sure you check for updates in Windows Update right after you upgrade; there's a day one patch they put out and it fixes quite alot of bugs (1GB of them actually). This fixed any driver issues I had and made my screen resolution normal, as it was previously running 800x600 or something, so don't freak out if your screen look weird at first. It automatically changes your default programs though, so if you use Chrome or Firefox you'll need to change it back to that from the new Edge browser. Otherwise, most settings were imported. So far I have found nothing that is incompatible with Windows 10 on my computer; however, beware that you will need to reinstall your anti-virus when Windows prompts you, as it is uninstalled prior to the upgrade. Doesn't cause any issues though and your computer is not at risk ... Read more

Good post and please keep it updated if you find something more.
Which antivirus did you have?
Is your Wireless working fine? Has it improved?
Are the lenovo apps working fine? (Energy manager, Dust cleaning)

As of now, I will prefer to stay with Win 8.1 due to several mods ( i have applied) and the stability that it has for playing games.

What do?

No but seriously, any suggestions?
I've done some research and this issue might be related to the fact that I mostly use my laptop while it is plugged in. I opened it up and got rid of some dust but to no effect.
Max temperatures reach up to 100C when it is plugged in, without even gaming or engaging in any other kind of heavy activity. Posting this from my phone cause I'm afraid to fry the poor thing.

Dear Lenovo family! I have bought this laptop (Y510P) around the end of December 2013. I have just decided to write these after long time of having issues with gaming. Also tooday I have just changed my Hard drive to SSD with booting windows 10 64bit from scrach hoping that it would all come to an end however it did not. -I have updated all the software, drivers etc. I have uploaded a RAR folder including my Nvidea system information, speccy system screen shot and all the logs from event viewer.  Now here is the problem I am having. When I start playin a game (For instance CS:GO) at first it is all good:-As soon as I run the game SLI gets activated.-Fans starts getting faster and both graphic cards getting warmer.-After 10-15 minues of gameplay, game freezes, screen gets minimized for 3-4 seconds and eveything freezess then games screen comes back and another 1-2 seconds game freezes then starts back on.- Problem repeates after another 10-15 minutes of game play. What  could be the problem?Could it be CPU speed is not properly working?Could it be because of the Graphic cards? I will be waiting for your help! Thank you all!

Hello 8-forums.

I'm posting on behalf of my little brother since he isn't the sharpest when it comes to computers. Today his computer started freezing and crashing out of nowhere at completely random times. I couldn't pinpoint an activity he was doing which might have caused it.

On top of that a pop-up kept coming up on his screen about his screen driver having crashed and has been restored. I happen to have the same laptop and I've had this problem for a week or 2 too, but nothing happens when it shows up on my screen (unlike his, where it crashes the computer). His screen now also has blue matrix-like lines all over his screen as a result of todays crashes.

I asked him to send the Zip-file from the DM log collector tool. He only had a BSoD once and he didn't notice the error code. The rest were freezes (forced to restart) and crashes (no BSoD screen).

Hope you can help find a solution to my brothers problem.
Regards Jens and Walther

Hi, I wanna turn on the laptop and have the Num Lock key activated. Right now I've edited the registry value from "HKEY_USERS\.Default\Control Panel\Keyboard/InitialKeyboardIndicators". I changed the value "2147483648" by number "2". The issue is still there, cause not ALWAYS I turn on the laptop, the Num Lock is activated, just sometimes, which is also weird too. So... what do I have to do to set Num Lock to activated by default when turning on? Thanks!

I have the lenovo y510p (59370015). It has a disk drive in the Ultrabay. Does this mean that there is no Nvidia graphics card in the laptop? If this is the case, then why are there a bunch of Nvidia files on it? If this is not the case then how do I get the card working, I see it with a Error Code 43 in device manager.

I understand this is a long shot, due to number of possible software variables, but I need help, as this is becoming a more and more frequent problem. I have a y510p. It is running Windows 8.1, haven't jumped to 10 yet. I run pretty average software - Google Chrome, Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, obviously a few other things.  I've been having a problem where for reasons I do not understand the laptop, which I bring around with me in a backpack, has been waking up after I disconnect from power and USB dock and close the lid. I don't know when it wakes up, or if it just isn't sleeping at all, but it is quite problematic in that it will at the very least just drain the battery every night and worse it is just cooking and cooking in the backpack.  I know it is a stupid thing, but I do find it a tremendous nuisance to sit there and stare at the status LEDs every day when I'm ready to go home just to make sure the stupid thing has absolutely gone to sleep. Control Panel - Power Options are set to sleep on Lid close (tried Hibernate on Lid close, no better result), and this even happens when WiFi is disabled in Control Panel - Network connections. The Always On USB port is also disabled in BIOS.

Hi dudescuman ,

Greetings.

Take the opportunity to back up anything that you would need from the machine.
Running lenovo diagnostics with temperature checker would help isolate points of failure.

BIOS and Lenovo logo should still appear even without a harddrive .
How is the power LED and Battery LED status (page29) ?
Would pressing the caps and num lock on / off show any response from the leds?

Update us how it goes.

Hi all, I have the lenovo y510p SLI 750m version and recently (2-3 days ago) my cpu fan on the left side of the laptop stopped working with the dust removal tool. I removed the lid and I can see both fans spinning just fine, however only the right one actually performs the dust removal when prompted. The other one stays queit and I don't feel any air pushed out of the left side. I can feel it on the right like normal though. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Hi sifuraga ,

Greetings.

You can initially power drain the system , turning it off removing the ac adapter and battery then pressing down the power button for 12 seconds . Start the machine using the Novo button (page 82) to launch the Novo menu for BIOS set up and set BIOS defaults f9 save and exit F10. Check the BIOS version.

Check how it goes else proceed with uninstalling and fresh installing the Lenovo power mangement tool . Restart and recheck .

I just want to comment on this - because I'm having the same issue.  I've used the laptop for a number of months without crashing issues, and it seems to have cropped up pretty recently.

I think it might have something to do with the driver version?  It also only seems to happen with certain games.  In particular, War Thunder and GTA4.  I play Dota 2 quite a bit and don't seem to have any problems at all.

A:Re: Lenovo y510p GT 755M SLI Problem

Hi,I have a problem when playing any games with SLI enabled. Games crashes at random times, sometimes even after ~5mins. So at that specific time the screen goes black and the game minimizes (or I try to minimize it by myself). After that the message pops out saying "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered". I have latest Nvidia drivers (v344.11). I'm running Windows 8.1 x64. The problem occured with any version of display drivers I've installed so far.

Hey everybody, I'm writing this for a friend who I've been trying to help with this issue for a while now.He owns a Y510P and is currently running Windows 10 64 Bit on it.His laptop is mostly running fine, he can play certain games including WoW and LoL without an issue. Others, like Path of Exile won't crash completely, but sometimes the graphics driver will crash and recover, blacking out his graphics for a second or so but then resuming. Other games, like Deus Ex: HR, Overwatch, Vermintide or Helldivers seem to randomly crash in a matter of minutes. Either the game crashes back to desktop without a specific error message or the laptop locks up completely and he needs to restart. This seems to be somewhat related to the load on the system, as he can safely sit in the (already rendered) lobbies of Vermintide and Helldivers or play the practice range in Overwatch which doesn't have other player characters. Once in an actual game, the crashes quickly start happening. I quickly found people suggesting this might be an issue with the power-saving feature when the drivers mistakenly switch back to the integrated card for just a moment, which seems to be causing trouble for other people. But disabling the integrated card via BIOS can't be done without a third-party unlocked BIOS which I won't risk him flash on his laptop and possibly brick it. Other suggestions like forcing the game to use the nVidia card didn't work, either, cause those options were either not... Hello, I bought a Y510P (SLI version) 2,5 years ago (yes, warranty is now expired) and my keyboard stopped working. Two rows of the keyboard didn't respond and after resetting and updating my laptop, contacting lenovo and I had to reset and update another time the problem was still there. Lenovo recommended a repair for my laptop. I declined it because I wanted to see if there were faster/cheaper/better options near my location. Next I searched for a local fast and cheap repair center to repair my laptop because my warranty was over so I had to pay anyway. I found one, send my laptop and a while later they told me it was the keyboard controller chip on the motherboard that was faulty. To repair that they had to replace the whole motherboard. Cost? Around 60% of my original purchase price. Way to much for a student. Went to Lenovo again with this information but of course they couldn't tell me more without a diagnose from their own but I don't want to spend another ?50 on a diagnose. This joke costs me a lot for just the diagnose, let alone the repair.  So my question, does anyone know something about these laptops and do you know if it could be this chip and can it be repaired/replaced instead of a whole motherboard? And, does anybody has experience with the cost of replacing a motherboard with Lenovo? Price in the Lenovo shop for a laptop is just over ?300,- and I don't want to get another offer to repair my laptop voor ?700.  It's sad... Read more

I have the y510p with the GT 750M SLI. My charger died on me, and I tried to order one via Amazon provided by a forum thread here a while ago, to only receive an adapter with a 45N0112 modeL number when my adapter is 45N0111.  Tried to to purchase it off Lenovo the other day to which I get an email that the product is "end of life" and now they've taken down the listing. So do tell me Lenovo... How am I to use my laptop without the 170w charger that you provide? No universal charger has that wattage. How the heck could you just shelf something like a charger after its only been about 3 years? I mean I thought your company was fantastic but what the heck man. Do enlighten me as to a guaranteed place to get a 45N0111 charger!!! I haven't been able to use my laptop for a week! Why? BECAUSE I CANT BUY A CHARGER. THANKS.

Hi folks I'm new to the forums to please excuse me. I'm currently posting from my phone so when my laptop comes on I'll attach the debug file.

Basically I set my laptop to sleep instead of shutting it down and when I went back to resume my work (about 20 hours later) it was running very slow.

I was searching for my 'Calculator' but made a typo so I tried backspacing the letter but nothing happened. Chrome (which I had opened at the time) was unresponsive and so was my taskbar.

I waited a while to see if anything would happen but nothing did so I forced shut down.

I left it off for almost a half hour and when I put it on I got that error 'Unmountable_Boot_Volume' and it needed to restart and so it did but then the error came up again this time it did an automatic repair which lasted a few seconds then it was diagnosing which lasted a few seconds and then I got the following message:

Automatic Repair
Your PC did not start correctly.
Press restart to restart your PC which might sometimes fix the problem. You can also press Advance options to try other options to repair your PC.

I clicked restart and it did.. I got a black screen for a minute or two but I got to log in. But once again everything was moving slow so as the start menu seemed to be working I shut down the laptop. (It's currently off)

Can anyone assist me with this problem?
It would be really good if I can actually find out what's really wrong with my laptop.
Thanks.

My computer was plugged into my TV via HDMI and my dog ran by, grabbing the cord and taking the laptop down with it. It looks damaged on the inside of the port and does not work. I have had the screen flash for a split second trying to plug it in but not even long enough to be recognized by the monitor.  I am trying to find out if this is something that can be repaired, or am I screwed? I use my laptop for presentations and meetings a few times a week, please let me know if there are any solutions.  I tried contacting customer support on Lenovo's website but received an error message.  Thanks

Hi Adil,

Welcome to Lenovo Forums.

Kindly perform Power Drain and set BIOS default:
Try turning off and removing the battery first. With adapter charger unplug, press Power button for 15seconds to drain power inside.  Plug in adapter charger and press Novo button instead of the power key to turn it on for the Novo Menu  Choose BIOS setting  On Exit tab , load optimal default then Y then place battery back before save changes and exit.

Just wanted to let others know about the SLI Graphics Card. All of a sudden my pc shutdown while viewing a Youtube video. I smelled some weird burning smell coming from the computer. Wouldn't boot, eventually I pulled the second graphics card on the right side of the pc. Looked at it and there was major burn spot on it. Started up the PC and it was fine without the graphics card. There must be some sort of overheating issue and they are defective. I rarely play games on this pc and this occured simply watching a youtube video which seems really odd. I do have two monitors hooked up to the system.

Hi,  Just before im losing my mind i turn to you guys for help! A back story about the recent events that got me to the problem:My Lenovo Y510P crashed (couldnt boot to windows) a month ago and  needed an HDD replacment according to the tech lab (he is still under warranty). They replaced the HDD and installed  the Windows 8 (i had 10 before the crash) from the hidden parttition, when i got my laptop back, i updated to Windows 10 but it crashed on boot screen (just like it did before the HDD got replaced).I sent it back to the lab, this time they just restored it to Windows 8.I tried to update it to 10 and it got stuck on boot again. My laptop went back and forth 3 times like this until they just sent me the laptop with Windows 10 on it. They deleted my hidden parttition and my SSD (24GB) with the laptop backup data so now i cant restore or format and i dont have any drivers or configurations on the Windows 10.  So heres the problem- It works a lot slower then it used to! it also take 3 times more to boot!i tried to get all the drivers and searched for BIOS configurations and i found that im missing a progrem called ExpressCache.I downloaded it but i don't think it made a diffrence. Is ExpressCache my solution? Maybe i need to configure it?Here is a screenshot with some details of my ExpressCacheHelp me please! i can send it to the lab again but they will just format it...Thanks!  ?
