Unable to install win 10 anniversary update on Envy 700-215x...

Q: Unable to install win 10 anniversary update on Envy 700-215x...

This box came with windows 7 64 bit Home OS. I recently upgraded to the windows 10 OS in order to take advantage of the latest OS. Around August the windows 10 anniverary update became available but upon attempting multiple times it have failed. I receive a 0xc1900200 error and a reference to the system reserved partition not being big enough. I don't seem to see a partition called System Reserved partition but have tried to expande what looks like a 100 MB SRP, using Partition Magic. It doesn't let me change this 100 MB partition. The PC runs fine but because of MS auto updates, which I need to keep other MS software up to date, I get regular failures of the Anniversary update release.

I am unable to install the Windows 10 Anniversary Update, keeps failing after second restart (at around 75%).

Machine is a relatively recent custom build, a little over 12 months old: Gigabyte B85M-HD3 (rev 2) mobo, i5-4460 CPU, Geforce GT 740 2GB GPU, 8GB RAM, Samsung 850 EVO 250GB SSD. Been running Windows 10 Pro 64-bit (1511) with no problems. sfc /scannow gives a clean bill of health. No apparent issues with drivers, Device Manager shows all good.

Tried installing via Windows Update and also via the downloaded Windows 10 Upgrade executable... same result. Everything goes well up until the second restart and then the start screen just hangs with the little circle of dots twiddling around indefinitely - up to 8 hours - and no hard drive activity whatsoever.

The only USB devices connected are my keyboard and mouse. I've tried installing in Clean Boot mode with all startup items and non-Microsoft services disabled... no difference. Tried increasing the size of the System Reserved partition from 350MB to 500MB... no difference. Tried installing while disconnected from the internet... no difference.

Downloaded the Windows 10 1607 ISO (which includes the Anniversary Update) and tried an upgrade install in Clean Boot mode, both with and without internet connection - installation froze at exactly the same place, after the second restart. Received the following error message upon recovering to previous version:

We've set you PC back to where it was right before you started installing Windows 10
The installation failed in the SECOND_BOOT phase with an error during BOOT operation
What was tried: Connected straight to ethernet, Turned off wireless and Defender A/V, Removing the D/L files, D/L fresh from ISO file, launched install file, went through approx 50% and PC rebooted - nor stuck on black screen with swirling dots for OVER 4 hours with a brief HD access every couple of seconds.
Rebooted again -- still swirling dots on black screen. Tried again, same results.
Rebooted with F8 to get original Win 10 back.
Turned on "metered connection" option for WLAN to stop this update from happening. But now I cannot get and security updates for this machine.
Please suspend this D/L until fixed. Cannot afford to have no protection!

I installed the anniversary update on both my windows 10 tablet and windows 10 pc
I have several folders shared across my network, movie, tv, downloads etc.
Since the update, I can share the folder, but my windows 10 tablet says I do not have permission to access the folder.
On my desktop the folder opens just fine, and is shared
All the other folders work just fine and my tablet can access them fully?
Any ideas? Its only new folders I try to share that my tablet can not access anymore.
It worked just fine before the update.

After installing the Anniversary Update, when selecting an app collection, am presented with a blank page. I have installed the update on 7 devices and only the Surface Pro 3 devices have this issue. Running wsreset.exe doesn't seem to help.

A:Following Anniversary Update, unable to view app Collections in Windows Store

Best thing is to be patient and wait. Workarounds may make things worse.. These issues are known and fixes will roll out. When the initial Windows 10 rolled out, an update came in less than a week to fix many initial issues so I wouldn't expect a long wait.
In the meantime, report issues via the Feedback Hub app.

I tried to update using the usual method, as the new update was present. I tried twice, and it failed twice. 2nd time it became clear that the Razer Synapse software (recent purchase of a discount keyboard) was causing the issue. So, I've uninstalled that. Fine, so now I go to hit the update button again, but Windows tells me it's up to date? I know for a fact it isn't, because it just told me it could not install the update and reverted to the previous version. What gives?
So, I can see it has downloaded the update to the '$WINDOWS.~BT' folder, but it will not trigger by running the 'setup.exe' file. My question is, how do I proceed now? How do I trigger the update I've downloaded to install, when Windows seems to have decided it's already installed it?

I know this is odd, but I saw this on another site and it has worked for me on 2 computers so far. Click on the anniversary update, let it check your system and then let it download the update. As soon as it starts to update, disconnect the wireless or LAN. It was able to update after this. Once it got past this section, I connected to the wireless again. About to do this with my 3rd computer. None were able to update before.

Here is the Service Manual: Manual Pages 41-47 show removal of the service bay door and replacement of the hard drive. Just install the SSD in place of the hard drive. You can remove the mSSD drive. It is not useful with a main SSD drive. It was designed only to speed up a regular mechanical drive.  Do you have a Windows 10 installation disk? You can download an image file and create a Windows 10 DVD or thumb drive installation media from the Media Creation Tool Microsoft webpage.  Post back so I can see if you are with us here. The installation of the update seems to get to about 70% complete, then I get a BSOD saying "kernel security check failure".

Then the update system automatically rolls back my Windows installation to the pre-Anniversary Update version.

Not sure which driver is causing the problem. Hopefully, the attached logs will help to narrow down the problem.

OS install uses less space (at least for my installation)
Event viewer shows no new instances (I had two known issues before and they are still there)
Reapplied many of Brinks tutorial suggestions and most of them worked... except this one:

gpedit management notice is missing (second screen shot) so I can't say for sure if it will work (or not).

Cons:
Win10BGChanger1.2.1 still doesn't work (as expected)
Sound removed from notifications by default (not a con for me though)
Installed default audio playback to my headset - changed to speakers
All in all, working well so far (for me).

I've downloaded the update for my laptop through windows update 3 times now. Each time it completes download, then restarts, configures updates, then gives me the notification: "We couldn't finish installing updates" Following that, a check of my update history shows no failed attempt or any reference to the update being downloaded. There is not at any stage an error code.
I have run the Windows Update Trouble Shooter with no result.
Any ideas will be welcome.

(I have a monthly isp download limit of 10 gb and with the speed i get it takes 4 hours to download the update so it has to be done after midnight so it doesn't count against the download limit )

A:Anniversary update won't install - no error code

Hi, download the ISO manually and create a bootable medium (which is useful in various circumstances).
(How - where- see the Tutorial section or search the net- not difficult).

That way you download once and can retry and have it available for other purposes. Also you avoid issues with Windows update.

From an admin command prompt
[Windows key + X, click command prompt (admin)]
chkdsk C: /F
Your PC will need to restart.
Make sure the result is clear or fixed.
Post back the result, which you can get after a restart as follows:
How do I see the results of a CHKDSK that ran on boot? - Ask Leo!

Disable any AV. Disconnect any devices you don't need. Uninstall any program that affects or modifies your GUI.

Do a clean boot then try the upgrade using the Win 10 DVD/USB.

If it fails again, you can have a look at the log:
Windows Update logs are now generated using ETW (Event Tracing for Windows).
Please run the Get-WindowsUpdateLog PowerShell command to convert ETW traces into a readable WindowsUpdate.log.

How would I install Windows 10 onto a M.2 drive? Is it as easy as picking the hard drive to install Windows on during setup?

You could just use "reset my pc".

Alternatively, create bootable usb stick or dvd

(I had an old Dell with Windows XP. I did a clean install on it once. I think there was one device that was listed as unknown. I put in the dell driver disk and it install most of the missing drivers I needed, as I recall. But you no longer get disks with Dell computers.)
Is there a place to download a drivers disk?
If I open Macrium Reflex, it shows that there are 5 partitions. One is the c: drive, one is PBR Image, one is wintools (I think). What are the other 2? They must be Dell partitions as I never created any partitions.
I looked up the model number of my harddrive and it appears to be a standard hard drive. Somebody said that there could be a small SSD that is used to help the other drive boot faster. If there was such a drive, wouldn't I see if I opened Optimizer? Or in Macrium Reflect?
The model number of my harddrive is WD10EZEX

Windows 10 Anniversary Update Might Hide Partitions After Install

One of the issues experienced by users after installing the Windows 10 Anniversary Update concerns partitions, as many of those who upgraded their computers reported that a number of partitions disappeared from File Explorer.

Furthermore, all partitions show up as RAW in Disk Management, which makes most people believe that all their data has been removed and nothing can be recovered.

Microsoft, however, claims that this is just a bug discovered in the Windows 10 Anniversary Update install system, and while no files are lost, it?s critical for users not to try to recover anything with third-party apps because this could lead to completely breaking down the partitions and removal of data.

?Microsoft is aware of this issue and is working on a solution to be released through Windows Update. Any data you have stored on the affected partition is still there. We recommend that you not try to recover or otherwise write data to the affected partition, nor should you format the partition,? the company says.

You can also downgrade in the meantime
Microsoft?s Sharath Srinivasa goes on to explain that a patch will be released to users when it?s available and states that users who do not want to wait for it can always downgrade to their previous Windows version. Partitions should be then just as you created them, with all files once again accessible.

For the moments, there?s still no timing on wh... Read more

I have a problem after installing the Anniversary Update of Windows 10. This post concerns the process which involves a clean re-install of Windows 10 by the method which includes downloading and running Microsoft's Media Creation Tool, choosing "Create Media for another PC". This downloads an ISO of Windows which, when put on a USB stick, can be used to boot the computer and clean-install Windows 10 (no license key required because Windows 10 was already running, although I have my license key.) I am told that this produces a "very clean" install which would clear any glitches in the previous install. Programs would need to be re-installed.

My question please: assuming that the Media Creation Tool will be downloaded after the Anniversary Update was installed, will it produce a Windows 10 + Anniversary Update version ?

Thanks for any help.

PS: I wasn't able to create a Macrium System Image which would include the Anniversary Upgrade because my problem occurred immediately after the Update. If you are interested in what that problem is, go to:

A:Trouble trying to install Windows 10 Anniversary Update, version 1607

Hello JRAllen72653 Welcome to the Ten Forums!

One advice I can provide here would be to try a different method for either update by upgrade or planned clean install which doesn't seem to be what you have been looking for. When the Redstone 1 update didn't even arrive here for 3 separate desktops as well as a recently new laptop where 10 came already on not seeing the update still lead to fail of the MC Tool to see the immediate online upgrade take place or create the usb media needed.

Twin solutions were then sought! The first in order to see all machines updated was to download the "windows.iso" by way of the MC Tool which equals both the 32bit and 64bit flavors for both the Home and Pro editions. We call that a "4 in 1" type of download that covers everyone.

The second item on the agenda did opt to use a 3rd party program not the Windows option to mount the iso downloaded onto each machine or run from a flash drive where the setup.exe main executable would be manually started to watch each upgrade install take place. Once all systems were set which included one desktop only lately being upgraded from 7 Home Premium to 10 Home and then still waiting for the update to go on before return to owner was to visit a MS download iso type page to grab both the 32bit and 64bit smaller Dual Edition iso downloads to keep onhand.

For a final fix to all older already made up flash drives for the Threshold 2 update last November as well as for Windows Insider P... Read more

Hi all,

Wondering if anyone else has experienced an icon display issue on their start menu with the 1607 update?

I have just clean installed (and fully updated) the 1607 Anniversary Update on 2 PC's and both are experiencing an identical issue with their start menu. The problem whilst seemingly minor is especially annoying given that I have performed the updates for some friends and it is a matter of pride to me that I hand over any such systems in a perfect state.

The Start Menu program list (A - Z list) as well as the "most used" and "recently added" lists contain icon tiles for the installed programs. On both systems around 25% of these tiles display a generic "blank page" image rather than the icon image associated with that program. That said the tile in question opens it's associated program and it's text label also displays correctly.......as I said earlier an annoying niggle!

By now you are all thinking ah its a icon cache failure just rebuild the icon cache!! I have of course rebuilt the icon cache following the instructions contained in option 2 of the tutorial here www.tenforums.com/tutorials/5645-icon-cache-rebuild-windows-10-a.html as well as deleting the C:\Users\<Username>\AppData\Local\IconCache.db file neither of which corrects the issue.

Additionally, I have manually, refreshed several of the icons (right click button tile > more > open file location) by changing and then reverting the .ico file through propert... Read more

Hi,
I have a Packard Bell OneTwo S3221. It came factory installed with W7.

I upgraded to W10 last year after difficulty - upgrading to W10 via Windows update would not work, kept installing to a certain percentage then would reboot to a blank screen and freeze indefinitely, I needed to power off then on restart it would roll back to W7. This happened repeatedly despite trying all sorts - clean boots, uninstalling antivirus and updating drivers, etc.

I finally installed W10 using Media creation tool. Everything ran fine. But when the big update came in Novmember 2015 that failed to, in the same way as above, however all other monthly windows updates install fine.

Windows update never tried to push the Nov 2015 update on me again - I'm still on build 10240 now.

I was prompted to install the anniversary update by Windows update last week but that also failed in the same way as above. Download ok and begins installing fine, then at some point after 50% complete I get the blank screen indefinitely and have to power off, then it reverts back to W10 build 10240.

Having checked Packard Bell website my model is not supported by Packard Bell for W10, and they are not providing any drivers for it. This may explain the problems.

Can anyone suggest how to find out what the problem is and if there is a solution? I've tried looking in Update history for error codes, but there is none, it doesn't even show an attempt to install the anniversary update. Like i said every other ... Read more

A:Can't install Windows 10 Anniversary update, stuck on build 10240

Hi, simplest answer is avoid windows update and create the appropriate bootable medium or iso and use it as you did before.
As you know plenty of people have this sort of problem.

Note that the upgrade can introduce new issues for some (search the net), and some are delaying because of that. Older machines like yours could well exhibit such problems. So before you make this change, I recommend you create a disk image of your existing setup - a procedure you should do routinely anyway- to give another way of restoring your system.
E.g. Macrium Reflect (free) + its boot medium + external storage for images.

It's best to have a physical bootable medium as it covers all of:
a. if you need to repeat the installation
b. as a bootable medium for recovery options
c. in case you need to do an in-place upgrade repair install

without taking up disk space.

I am having problems installing windows 7 on my HP Envy 15 TS laptop, I have tried every solution available on the web but none have worked so far... Please I need help

A:Unable to install windows 7 on HP Envy 15 TS laptop

Hi: Did you go into the BIOS, disable secure boot and enable legacy mode? Does your model have a USB 2 port?  If so plug the flash drive in the USB 2 port. Did you test your W7 installation media on another PC to make sure it works? Normally that error means you have defective or incomplete installation media. If you can answer yes to all of the above questions, then try this... This is if your notebook has an Intel generation 4 core processor... Download the drivers from this link below (first or second file listed -- 32 or 64 bit as applicable). https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=24293&lang=eng&ProdId=2101 Extract (copy) the files onto a usb flash drive without any folders. With the flash drive and W7 installation media plugged into the machine, boot from the W7 installation media. After you select the install now option, select the Drive Options - Advanced menu, then select the Load Driver option. You should now see the storage driver files listed. If you check the box, it will only include the compatible driver. Follow the prompts and hopefully, W7will install.

I recently purchased an HP ENVY 15t QUAD - E4T17AV It shipped with Win8 and I honestly can't stand it. Upon attempting to reinstall with Win7, I am unable to find any disks to install to. I have searched the devmgr in win8 for the information on the SATA controller and the chipset. I have downloaded the drivers and when attempting to add them during the Win7 it finds the drivers that are compatible with my system but when i attempt to install I recieve the error "No new devices could be found." I enabled legacy boot options, disabled secure boot, changed the boot order, all that good stuff. I have attempted to install having both the SATA and mSATA drives attached, as well as only having one or the other attached, and recieve the same error each time. I have used several different drivers from HP and Intel and all recieve the same error. I have read other posts from people saying that they have install Win7 on their 15t, so it must be possible. What am I missing? Thanks.

I would like to do a clean install with WIN 10 Anniversary Update (1607), and convert my disk from BIOS to UEFI.
What modifications would i need to do to GPTgen while upgrading and maintaining my programs and data?

Thanks

A:clean install with anniversary update & disk conversion BIOS to UEFI

Modifications....none.

Windows 10 already utilizes GPT partitioning....on a clean install. The only thing you would need to do is change your BIOS firmware from Legacy BIOS to UEFI BIOS. You will need to confirm that in your BIOS. Or to check with in windows.....in the search bar of cortana, type system information and when the window pops up, scroll down to BIOS mode......here's mine.

I am preparing to upgrade from Win 8.1 to Win 10. According to the HP Support site the BIOS should be upgraded before upgrading to Win 10. The BIOS currently installed as reported by msinfo32 is "AMI 80.16, 05/12/2013".  According to the HP Support site page for my product, the latest HP Consumer Desktop PC BIOS Update (ROM Family SSID 2AF3) software available is sp72302.exe Version 80.24 Rev A, Aug 3 2015. I temporarily disabled my Antivirus (Norton Security), and exited ZoneAlarm Firewall Free, and then attempted to download and install this new BIOS version using "HP Download and Install Assisstant (Recommended)". The download part suceeded, and a cmd window launched, and all operations displayed within it appeared to proceed without error. After the cmd window closed, the remaining dialogue window indicated that the BIOS update was also successful. No automatic reboot occurred so I then closed that dialogue and manually rebooted. After logging in again and re-running msinfo32, the BIOS version reported is unchanged at "AMI 80.16, 05/12/2013". To double check I rebooted and used F10 to enter the BIOS. At that level in System Information, the BIOS version is reported as "KAI v80.16 12/05/2013", so it seems that the BIOS update to the new v80.24 Rev A in fact did NOT succeed. What do I need to do to successfully update the BIOS to Version 80.24 Rev A?

Hi, I recently purchased an HP Envy X360 laptop for Work. The laptop came with Windows 10 Preinstalled. I am trying to do a clean install of Windows 7 and during the install I get a error saying that "A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing. If you have a drive floppy disk, CD, DVD or USB flash drive, please insert it now. Note. If the Windows installation media is inthe Cd/DVD drive, you can safely remove it for this step"  I am trying to do the install via a USB drive. The laptop has 3 USB ports and i believe all of them are 3.0 Any help is greatly appreciated.

A:Unable to do a clean install of Windows 7 on a HP Envy x360 ...

Sadly, you CANNOT install Windows 7 via USB if all you have is USB 3 ports.  Windows 7 does not support USB 3 out of the box.  The way around this is to use DISM to add the USB 3 drivers (most of the time it's Intels drivers).  I actually just did this to downgrade my 15t-ae000 from Windows 10 to Windows 7.  I will be posting a new thread about the couple of driver issues left for that machine next. If you want the steps to make an install that will work with USB3 let me know and I will post the steps (it requires you to make a Windows 7 install image - not too hard). Bryan

I, again, apologize for double posting. I figure I should include the host of other issues I'm having. Maybe they can all be inter related.

-my DVD/RW drive, when connected to mother board in ANY SATA slot, causes the BIOS screen to freeze forever. I have disconnected the drive at this time while trouble shooting. I have tried known-good SATA cables so I know it's either the DVD/RW drive or perhaps a driver or mobo failure.

-I have run the memory diagnostic tool in windows. No issues were reported.

-I have NOT run memtest86 because I do not have a disk drive connected.

-I have had stop-errors (BSODS) such as PFN_list_corrupt, System_service_Exception, Memory_management, IRQ_not_less_or_Equal
All of these could be a result of bad RAM.

I have purchased new RAM as a means to fix my problems. It seemed to work for 2 weeks, then the stop errors returned.

So I am currently reinstalling Windows on my dad's old laptop after the hard drive decided up die on us, and I stumbled on a problem that's a bit too hard for me to fix.

Namely, I am completely unable to install any Windows Update. Not even MSE will install.

I tried running SURT, but got error code 0x8000247
I also tried running SFC /SCANNOW, it ran the verification fase until 98% and then stated that there where unfixable problems.

The displayed error codes are:
In WU: "8024A000"
In SURT: "0x8000247"
Whilst installing MSE: "0x80070643".

Attached you will find CBS.log and MSINFO with my system specs.
Cheers and many thanks in advance,

This may simply be caused by a bad set of Intel Storage Matrix Technology drivers -

Installing the Intel Drivers
try downloading and installing them from here -

(IATA89ENU.exe)

Once complete, please reboot twice, then post another MGADiag report.

If nothing has changed, try this...

Please run the following commands in an Elevated Command Prompt

NET STOP CRYPTSVC
REN C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CATROOT2 CATROOT2OLD
NET START CRYPTSVC

once complete, leave the system alone for at least an hour to rebuild the database, then reboot, and run another MGADiag report and post the results.

If neither of them work, we'll re-evaluate.

I found some questionable files this week that had been downloaded by my son. I have since spent a great deal of time trying to scan and clean the computer. Each malware/spyware/anti-virus scanner has had varying levels of success.

It seems that the bulk of my issues have been resolved but I am still unable to install the following update from Microsoft: Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 9 for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2719177)

Each time I try to update it, it aborts and gives me an error code (80073712), that is not showing up in any google searches or searches of microsoft's site.

Additionally, every time I shutdown or restart the computer it shows that new updates are being installed.

I am using Windows 7 home premium 64-bit.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

So whenever i installed them and restarted my pc they used to show up again . So today i decided to download Windows install clean up utility and uninstall and reinstall .net framework 2.0 sp2 .I uninstalled but when i tried to install it again i couldn't . It showed as a " setup error " .

Retry the Update(s).3. If the Update(s) fail(s), proceed to Step 4.4. Download .Net Cleanup Utility: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2008/08/28/8904493.aspx5. By using the Cleanup Tool, uninstall all .Net Framework entries. (You will not be allowed to remove the .NET Framework 2.0 on Vista and 3.5 on Windows 7 because they are Operating System components.)6. Reboot.7. Download and install the .Net Framework 3.5 SP1 by clicking the link below (this will also install .Net Framework 2.0 SP2 and 3.0 SP2):http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=AB99342F-5D1A-413D-8319-81DA479AB0D7&displaylang=en8. Reboot9. Check for & install all important/critical updates/security patches/etc (do not select any optional .Net updates yet) for .Net thru Windows Update.Hope this helps.

Hello all.
Running windows 10 pro 64 bit.
I've updated from Version 1511 to the anniversary update, 1607.
Or at least, I thought I did.
The update went well, no hiccups, no errors. Used windows update, let it downloaded and install and rebooted. Alas, system still shows OS Version 1511.
Used update again, same thing, rebooted, 1511.
Went to the windows site, downloaded the windows10upgrade9252.exe, ran it, same exact issue, rebooted, still showing version 1511.
Error logs show no issues. Disabled all external drives, turned off anti-virus, etc, repeated, rinsed, rebooted, still version 1511.
Only think I've not done is burned an ISO to DVD and updated from that.
Any clues as to what's going on?
Thanks!

Dear Subscribers and Contributors:
After three hours and probably 2 dozen reboots, I have given up and I will no longer try to update Windows 8 and will probably turn off automatic updates. It seems that I'm not alone in this issue and the internet is full of posting with frustrated clients.
Updating Win 8 has become more annoying than a root canal and at least the latter is purposeful.
It's hard to believe that Microsoft can't get its act together after all these years.
If anybody has found a viable solution to this problem (without returning to Win 7 or buying a Mac) please let me know.

Have you tried the MS Apps troubleshooter http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=268423

Read that one guy had used it for some buggy Win 8 apps and it gave him some missing security settings that he wasn't aware existed - could be an unseemingly associated issue, but you could try the Win updates again after running it.

Someone else had found (via MS) that carrying over Office was the cause and uninstalling that resolved - but you've probably already come across these in your own search.

Also have you tried this with a clean boot ?

I've tried turning off my spyware blocking software and disabled my antivirus software, too. I have no problem downloading other software from the internet.

Any ideas where I should look to for a solution to this problem?

Thanks.

Hi Everyone,

To cut a long story short, I purchased a new Medion desktop pc very recently from Aldi which is running Windows 8. The problem is, I cannot get the Windows update (KB2770816) to install. I've searched the internet high and low and tried everything suggested, but still the problem persists.

I'll not go into great depth of this problem right now, as I really need to know first if I should be asking this forum about the problem, or instead Microsoft direct if that's possible?

If anyone could advise me on the next best step I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Chris.

I am trying to update from Windows 10 OS Build 10586.589 to the Anniversary Update but my computer freezes at 1% progress. I have tried everything I can think of including: Unplugging all extra SATA drives except my main SSD, unplugging my wireless network adapter, unplugging all USB devices (even mouse and keyboard), removing old drivers and updating outdated ones, and installing the update through a USB flash drive. It always gets to the same part and freezes until I shutdown my computer and lose no data.

You can see pictures of the frozen screen here: http://imgur.com/a/PseoH.

Hopefully someone can give me some guidance on how to fix this as I've tried everything I can think of. Thanks!

Found something that worked. Removed folders related to updates in C:\windows\softwaredistribution . WU went off without a hitch. Don't see a way to remove the thread. You may delete/lock this if you wish. Thanks anyways.

Thanks for your time. For some time now, Vista (64-bit) has not been able to install two updates on my computer, specifically KB943899 and 943411. The two always fail. Other updates that appear will come along and install fine, leaving these two as fails everytime. The code in Window's Update is 800736CC. I click "Get Help" and see nothing helpful.

I moved onto trying stand alone updates and they fail as well. Once downloaded, I run them, and get "wusa.exe - Bad Image C:\Windows\system31\wuapi.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support" followed by "Installer encountered an error: 0x800700c1 %1 is not a valid Win32 application". This is the same error for both WUs.

Did a little looking around, haven't seen anything at seems to match my problem exaclty. Did see some people with the same error message under Windows XP who were asked to Run sfc /purgecache and sfc /scannow. Did both, sfc /scannow results in a few minutes of scanning then the window closes at 100% with no information, I assume it had no problems to report.

A:Windows Update unable to install two updates.

1) Go to your "Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download" folder. You should see
a bunch of folders with random looking names

2) Look in each of these folders until you find one that has a .cab file
with a name that contains the update number that failed (i.e.
Windows6.0-KB929427-x86-EXPRESS.cab or something similar). If you can't find
the cab file there should be some other file in the folder that indicates its
number.

3) Backup then delete the entire folder (the one with the random looking
name) that contains that cab file

4) Repeat for each of the updates that are failing for you

5) You might have to reboot at this point but I didn't have to

6) Either wait for the updater to notify you or manually check for updates

7) The updates should be available for download again

8) Let the updater download and apply the previously failed updates and it
should work this time

Hello,

I am having problems updating Java on Windows XP Home. I am getting an error when trying to install the latest version saying something like "unable to download Java' "download failed"

I have no Java showing in add/remove programs to remove so I can reinstall. I have also run JavaRA to cleanup old versions of Java and am still unable to download/install.

I have tried to download the manual patcher and am still getting the same error.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

A:[SOLVED] Unable to update/install Java

Hello jamisz!

I had a similar problem with one of the machines I have at home. I also tried running JavaRA to clean up previous version of Java that might have been installed incorrectly, but to no avail. What worked for me was deleting the folder that had the JRE inside. It should be located in a similar directory as this:

Quote:

C:\Program Files\Java

Completely remove that folder, then remove the folder:

Quote:

C:\WINDOWS\Sun

After deleting these two files, empty your recycle bin and restart your system. Upon restarting, download the latest version of Java from this location:

Download Java for Windows Firefox

Installation should be smooth. Sorry if this is a bit simple and crude of a solution, but it worked for me, so it's worth a try. If by chance those two files that need to be removed are not there, it might have something to do with your registry.

Hi All,

I dont know if any one will be able to help me but thought I would give it a tryn.

Here is the story.

I have a desktop and my wife has a laptop. I, not knowing much about computers, posted a thread in the network forums to get help setting up a home network for us for when she is home.

After getting the network set up everything was working fine. My wife went to bed so I done some updates on her laptop. Windows updates and driver updates.

Well she took the laptop to work with her the next day and when she went to log in..it started loading her personal settings and then got a warning saying that windows was unable to load the stored personal profile. Possible causes are insuffucent security rights or corrupt personal profile. I posted this problem in my thread n the network forum since i thought maybe it had something to do with just setting up the home network.

Got a reply that basicly said i would need to delete and create a new profile. So i thought I would use system restore and then just go through the network setup again.

This worked fine except now I can not get ITune to load. I double click on the desktop short cut and get a message saying "ITunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the incovience. Send error repot to microsoft or dont send."

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling several times and still no luck getting it to work. Have tried redownloading thinking I got a bad download. Still no luck.

First off, thank you to whomever helps me work this out.

The problem: I have recently inherited a Eee PC c/XP sp3 and wanted to install Openoffice on it. Attempting to install open office triggered an error, which requested I update to the latest version of IE. Upon trying to activate windows update in order to install IE and any other necessary updates I run into a series of errors preventing me from activating it. I then tried to dwnld/install IE 8 from microsofts update page, which was on 50% successful. During the install I encounter a ieseptup.exe - Bad image error which reads:

The application or D:: C:\WINDOWS\System32\wuapi.dll is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette.

And that is where I am currently at.

A:Unable to activate windows update/install IE8

You do not need to update IE8 to install Open Office. Any browser Firefox, Chrome etc will work
For your other errors, go to Start/Run and type SFC /scannow put the XP CD in and it will replace any missing or corrupted files from the disc

I don't know what to do the thermometer gauge represents your surface pro is getting overheated and in order to prevent heat damage to the core hardware the device/bios shuts down your device. so first we need to fix the overheating issue and then can you continue with the update.

Hi,

I just downloaded and installed the Windows 10 Anniversary Update yesterday and so far I have noticed some changes in my computer that I was not aware of before the update.

(1) Somehow my System Restore was set to Disabled and all of my restore points are now gone and

(2) All of my Microsoft Update History is also missing.

Could the update be the cause of both?

Thanks and regards,

2harts4ever

A:Update History missing after Win10 Anniversary Update

Yes, the update is the cause of both.

Major version upgrades like this change so much functionality, they often have to reset various settings to default so that they are in a known good state. Unfortunately, many have complained about the System Restore option being reset to Disabled (this is the Windows default).

As for your previous restore points, that's to be expected. You can't restore to a previous restore point on a previous OS version. All the baseline files are different, and you would be restoring settings for the old OS if you were to somehow be able to restore it.

Think of it like a Bookmark or favorite, but they've moved the location to a different URL. Restoring the old favorite only points you to somewhere that doesn't exist anymore.

As for #2, your update history is gone because again, it's a fresh OS, and previous updates are all integrated into the OS now, not patches. Those old updates don't apply to the new OS anymore.

I have tried multiple fixes:
1. MS Fix It and hot fixes
2. manually installed updates
2. Ran Chkdsk (no errors found)
3. Ran System File Checker tool
4. Reset the Catroot2 folder
5. Regsitered the Windows update files
6. ReNamed the SoftwareDistribution folder
7. Cleared the BITS queue
and 8. Ran the System Update Readiness toll (CheckSur.exe). This is the only thing that has defined a problem. It found the CBS Mum Corrupt 0x800F0900 and the CBS Catalog Corrupt 0x800B0100 and notes 4 unavailable repair files.

Any thoughts on if the CBS corrupt Mum and Catalog are causing the failed updates and how do repair those?

I have tried to install the Anniversary update to my machine via the standard download through windows. Using an attached 64gb USB (and even an attached 64gb SXDC) after being told insufficient storage does not work as the system then asks for 3gb to be available on the destination drive. Clearing all none essential programs, recovery images and using CCleaner still does not give the needed amount of drive space. Now every time I log in  I am asked to update but am at a stalemate. Has anyone found a way around this - for example using a cloning program to the USB and then cloning back to the installed 32gb drive onboard?Any suggestions gratefully accepted.

Hi,
I have a problem with my Lumia 625. Some time ago Lumia started downloading and updating Info+Extras app. The app is dowloading, but it can't install. Everytime it tries to install, I got a message that it needs my attention, and when I open it in download centre in shop, I a get message that there was a problem with updating this app and the code of the error is 80004004. I tried to remove it from download list, but every few days it returns and tries to install, everytime with the same error. Sometimes I get this Info+Extras app showing on my app list, but I cannot open it. Also I cannot open Info+Extras menu in settings.
I have Windows Phone 8.1 version 8.10.12393.890 and I am from Poland.
Please help
Darek

A:Why am I unable to install/update Info+Extras on Lumia 625?

Reinstall the app, it should solve the problem.
-Go to settings > date+ time --turn off automatic date and time setting.
-set the date to 2115 year
-go back to Settings try to open extras+info.. Uninstall it.
-Fix your date.. Turn on automatic setting.
Now install the app -extras+info. You can find it in SysApp Pusher (another app from store)

I recently built a new desktop. Since installing Windows 7 64bit and running the updates I seem to be getting an update loop for the following updates...

kb2894854
kb2972107
kb2972216
kb2979578
kb3023224
kb3035490
kb3037581

It always says the updates installed successfully but when I restart the updates appear in Windows Update again and do not seem to have taken affect.

Due to this I am unable to update Windows further and receive the future updates including the free Windows 10 update.

Read many articles for possible solutions, try repair tools for Windows Update, .net cleanup tools, manual installations of the updates all to no avail.

Any help regarding this would be greatly appreciated.

A:Unable to install Windows 7 update kb2894854 - kb3037581

All of those except the first one are security updates for .net framework 4.5.2

Did you install .net framework 4.5.2 ?

I don`t have a KB2894854 update, but I do have a KB2894844

Are you sure you typed it correctly ?

If you have .net framework 4.5.2 installed it will show in Programs and Features in the Control Panel

Whatever I do to update java 6.0.18 to 6.0.20, I get the same error code:
"1606, could not find network location :. " (It is a stand alone computer, and no network installation.)
I get this message with online update by jucheck
I get it with online update with jxpiinstall.exe
It get it with the offline installer : jre-6u20-windows-i586-s.exe

And even more comprehensible, I get this error message if I try to uninstall Javan6.0.18
(I thought I make a clean installation after, but that is impossible too.)
the update from 6.017 to 6.018 went easy without any manual handling required.

I use: Vista sp2, on a Acer Aspire 5810T

Had been running Emsisoft anti malware on deep scan and found following results :four (4) fake av attempts, and trojan exploit java/cve -2010. Attempted to remove same, and was unble to do so. Keyboard and mouse froze had to unplug from power to shut down.
Ran scan again this time took more than 5 hours (normall full scan ~2 hours) reported trojan still present and again froze up as above.
Since then I have removed and reinstalled java (latest version) and uninstalled emsisoft anti malware program.
Attempted to run Dr. web, system became unstable (even in enhanced protection mode) rendered both mouse and keyboard ineffective, again had to power down.
Rebooted in safe mode was able to run Dr. web in quick scan, which reported no malicious activity. However, when exiting message came on saying part of application was disabled and did not run.
All of this came about because I am unable to install MS security patches. Virus or malware is blocking same.
I have had experience with running GMER program in past and tried several runs each time system either rebooted or shut down, with out indicating any root kit activity.
Will attach GMER log and DDS log as requested.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. As of now I am missing four possibly five critical MS security patches, and have to click mouse 3 or 4 times for any actions to occur. Prior to the blocking system was running without incidence

Hello,

I'm having problems with Yahoo redirecting to adware sites. Have run AVG and Trend Micro Housecall scans with little or no results but am still having the issue. I'm trying to update Spybot and install AdAware but am getting errors when it tries to go through the install process. I'm also unable to install Windows Update updates; it comes up with error code 80072EFE.

For some reason I can't get RootRepeal to finish, but I've attached everything else.
