Hi HP and friends My friend is looking at purchasing a HP ProBook 450 G3 15 Notebook that comes with 256gb SSD, m.2 variety. That means the 2.5" HDD bay should be empty. Would there be any issue installing a 1tb hdd in this Hdd bay for extra storage, that is running the m.w ssd and hdd concurrently? For example would the meager 45w power brick can handle the extra load? http://h20386.www2.hp.com/AustraliaStore/Merch/Product.aspx?id=T3V98PA&opt=&sel=NTB just want to be sure before he purchases it. regards choppaMore replies

Good morning to you Sir/Mdm, I'm currently facing a problem, because this current laptop I am using is from my previous company and it's all restricted due to the adminstration access & etcs, so I'm finding a way to 'Factory Restore / Reformat' this laptop. I tried several ways but it couldn't work, is there any other ways for me to try it? I have tried : 1) Restarting the Laptop > F11 (Which did not exisit in this laptop) / ESC & Couldn't find any system restored. 2) Tried going to ''Restore your computer or Re-install window'', didn't have the option of 'Factory Restore/Setting' Please help me solve it, Thank you very much for your time & effort. I recently had the misfortune of screwing up my Win7 installation beyond repair, restore points corrupted, you name it. To the point, I began from scratch and have caught up pretty reasonably. I noticed a new graphic driver previously not released while I was busy destroying my previous Win7 installation, and upon installing it discovered that every time I completed the installation, it would reboot, flash a few times (which video driver installations tend to do), then Aero would be turned off and a popup would say a restart was necessary due to 'changes made.' So I would restart, and even before I could login, I saw the flashing taking place as the login screen loaded. Upon logging in, there it was again, 'restart due to changes.' This happened seven times. I finally loaded a restore point from before it and things are fine now. Here is a screenshot of iolo System Mechanic and Windows Update's visual of the driver. I know my ProBook has interchangable GPU capabilities which has been the source of quite a bit of stress, so I wondered if this simply wasn't meant for my particular laptop, but I would like some insight from the community. Here are the pictures of the drivers: Can anyone verify or offer some insight to a very confused user of an otherwise amazing machine? I always like to have the best graphic drivers possible for the gaming this laptop is capable of running (D3 at impressive FPS, WoW too.) A... Read moreMore replies
A problem has recently developed with my Envy notebook. About 2 weeks ago my entire wireless network began slowing down when on it. Noticeable on all devices. When my provider came out, checked and tweaked some issues it appeared to be ok. I went on with my daughers HP laptop and was drawing 20-24 mbps all over the house. When I reconnected mine to the system I was only pulling 6, 3, 5, up and down. It doesn't start right away but after a few minutes. So I put my duaghers right next ot mine and low and behold, when I ran her's it pulled 3 - 6 also. So I turned my wi-fi off and hers' popped right back up. I have also tried this with an old XP mini, my i-pads etc. As soon as mine gets on the network the speed crashes. This also happens with no one else home and no other devies conncted. I have downloaded the latest up to date Intel driver for this network adapter and it hasn't changed anything. Any ideas?
Bill_Ving Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!I read your post about wireless networking poor performance and wanted to help. My immediate guess is that you might have mixed-mode networking going on. This happens when you have two different PCs networking in two different modes -- one using "G", the other using "N". The wireless router (or access point) can optimize performance for either mode, but not for both. So, the "G" mode drags down the performance of the "N" mode PC, but even worse, with the router set for mixed modes, it performs more slowly than with either PC connected by itself. Here are some other troubleshooting steps you can try: HP PCs - Troubleshooting Wireless Network and Internet (Windows 8) | HP® Customer SupportGood Luck========================================================================I am a volunteer and I do not work for, nor do I represent, HP.---------------------------------------------------------------Please click "Accept As Solution" on the post that solves your issue to help others find the solution. Please click the Thumbs-Up symbol on the left of the Reply button to say thanks fopr my help.========================================================================1 more replies
I made a Google notebook to keep the minutes of a meeting my business partners and I held last weekend. I made them all collaborators on the notebook so they could all make any changes or annotations they felt necessary. However, when they go to access this notebook they are prompted for a password.
There is nowhere (at least that I can find) to even choose to password protect the notebook let alone change the password. I'm pretty confused as to what password the notebook could be. The only thing I can think of is that it's asking for the password to my gmail account, which I don't really want to be handing out. Any ideas on this one gang?

My own notebook (Asus EEE PC S101), running Windows XP service pack 3) was twice redirected to an unknown website when I wanted to visit the Guardian newspaper website. I was using IE version 8. Then the notebook froze. When this happened, I had to switch it off without using Cleanup, which I have used safely for a long time. When I had switched it on again, I used Firefox to go to the Techsupport Forum. I followed the instructions to download dds.scr and began running it. Then the notebook froze again. It still tells me "Two logs shall be created on your desktop" Now the cursor does not move any more either. I write this from another notebook, but I cannot create a logfile,m as everything is frozen on my own notebook. Help, please,

My new notebook an M50-MX5 was in the warranty depot as we thought it had a dvd burning problem, however that was not the case; it was the media.
Anyway before it was sent into the toshiba warranty depot the level 2 tech phone support said to get the computer to be like it was when I unboxed it 2 days earlier, this was last month.
And so to my frustration all of my programs were removed, however before doing this the software techie at the office Ghosted it to my Western Digital Storage Unit and then sent it off to the Warranty Depot.
While it was in the shop I used my 3 yr old toshiba satellite 2410 which I am now typing on at this moment.
I was finally able to get the software tech from the office to reGhost my new toshiba M50 on this past Saturday and left it with him for a couple of hrs and then returned to pick it up as there was not much in the way of programs on it and so it wouldn't take long to Ghost the Images back.
Well, in my Western Digital Storage unit are Ghosts of this 3 year old satellite that I am presently using.
After the techie got my Restore Disk installed and tried to reGhost the image onto the New M50, it crashed.
He was using the wrong Ghost, he was using the one that was from this unit???
I was not happy, especially after he claimed that he now had it Ghosted with the proper Image and I tried it out and it was very sloooooow to Boot. He said it was my Norton 2006.

Something you might want to try (it's a pita) is a repair of windows - this may fix some of the slowness issues you're seeing. The install program he's talking about is probably the U3 component of many larger USB pen drives. I think it's on most of Sandisk's newer large drives. A repair of windows might also take care of this. I seriously doubt that putting the wrong image on the machine and then putting another image on could do any damage to the machine itself - the folks here at my job do it all the time.
We've got a desktop hooked into a linksys B router, and a notebook that accesses the internet wirelessly thru that router. lately we havent been able to get a decent connection with the notebook, and if we've gotten any at all, it gets dropped soon. is the desktop getting the majority of the bandwidth, which is eliminating the notebook from getting enough? if so, is there anyway to limit the amount that the desktop is getting?
What changed from when it was working to now?
My wife has a two-year-old Samsung notebook. Recently when she unplugged it the machine cut off, even though the battery said 79% charged (it wouldn't charge any further). I figured that the battery was bad so I bought another one from Amazon.
This one charges to 100% percent and does exactly the same thing. I'm perplexed but think there's something going on with the motherboard that won't let it use battery juice, even if Windows 8.1 says it's 100% charged.
I've tried the hold the power button down for 1 min with the battery out trick to no avail.
Any ideas? I'm stumped and think I might need to get her another notebook.

Dual graphics in laptop HP ProBook 455 G1Hello! I have a problem. I have laptop HP probook 455 G1 with dual graphics. integrated( AMD Radeon HD 7640G)+ discrete (AMD Radeon HD 8750M). I want to install the latest drivers. but what do I do if the discrete supports them, and integration - no.? And how to properly install the driver? Thanks
Install the AMD driver that is available at the HP Support portal. (If there is not one available, leave the driver installation as it is, unless you mind that it stops working.) It contains the AMD and Intel driver. Do not install the Intel driver seperately. If you do install it seperately, the switchable grapgics function will no longer operate as expected.1 more replies

I am interested in buying one of these devices however I have some questions: Is there a WWAN module on the Australian version and if not, is there a SIM slot that can be used with 3rd party add-in card? Does the motherboard chipset support USB 3.1, contrary to the specifications listed on the website, i.e. is it the Union Point 200 chipset? Also, there is no information regarding Discrete Graphics, so is the NV-930MX(2GB) actually included? The internal drives are listed as 500GB however the online store says it is 1TB. Hey All, I'm looking to buy a new HP Probook 450 G3 model number T3L12UT, and from what I understand in addition to having a HDD included, there should be an empty m.2 slot for a solid state drive. My plan is to keep the HDD and add an SSD, but I want to make sure that this specific model of the Probook has that empty m.2 slot. I guess the easiest question would be, do all models of the Probook 450 G3 come with that extra m.2 slot? Thanks for your time Phil

I have conected my laptop with tv and home cinema by hdmi but is working only 2.1
If i go on control panel -sound - ati hdmi output -configure the only option is stereo.
How i can configure to go 5.1 ?
On many systems, two channel stereo is all that is available. It can be hardware limitations and with a laptop there isn't much you can do.
I can't find anything on HP or other sites to confirm just stereo, but if that is all you are getting I suspect that is it. This is sold as a "business" laptop so it may not have all the Media features a "non business" or "consumer" model may have.
Hello everyone! I have HP ProBook 440 G3 (X0N42EA) with Windows 8.1 x64 installed on M.2 SSD 256 GB TLC (SanDisk X400 if it is important), which is installed in my notebook from the factory. Win 8.1 was upgraded from Win 7, which was installed from the factory also. This model has both M.2 and SATA sockets. So in my case I have a free SATA socket. I want to upgrade notebook's storage volume adding a 2.5 512 GB SSD (SanDisk X400 also, if it is important also). I insert new SSD, start the PC and get an error message, that boot device not found and I have to install an operating system.OK. I set up in the BIOS (UEFI interface actually) UEFI boot order: 1st - USB; 2nd - M.2; 3rd - SATA. And for legacy boot order I have only two options, which are also set up respectively: 1st - USB; 2nd - M.2. New SATA SSD volume even doesn't display in legacy boot order options. I save changes and reboot PC and have same situation, same message.I try different ways: checking only UEFI boot order, only legacy boot order, checking both of it - no results. Even when I choose M.2 directly for boot via F9 button - no changes. When I unmount new SSD from notebook, PC starts normally, everything is OK.Both M.2 and SATA SSD are MBR partitions, if it is important. Does anybody know how to mount SSD into SATA socket and make PC boot system from M.2 SSD? Thanks in advance!More replies

Needing drivers for PCI Simple Communications Controller also have an Unknown Device in other devices in computer management.
Hi: For the PCI Simple Communications Controller you need to install the Intel Management Engine Interface driver found under the chipset driver section. For the unknown device you probably have to install the 3D driveguard driver found under the storage driver section.1 more replies

Hi, I'm a field service tech with a frustrating problem. HP Probook 640 G1, initial customer complaint was that the system will charge battery when turned OFF and plugged in, but system will not charge battery or use wall power when turned ON. Battery and power cable were replaced; no change. Conclusion at that point was a problem existed between the power cord and power connector on the system board; thus the system board was replaced. Since then, the laptop will not power up at all, on battery or when plugged into the wall. Today I replaced the power button board, and got the same symptoms, but noticed that when I press the power button, the battery indicator LED blinks nine times and stops; nothing else happens. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Attempted to up-date to Windows 10. Couldn't do it. Microsoft (MS) Tech tried to do it and couldn't do it. It seems there are some security tools that must be removed as they are incompatable with Windows 10. MS tried to remove and couldn't do it. He said they were on the mother board and when he tried to remove them they just kept coming back so once again he couldn't do it. He said contact HP and they could do it. Unable to find anybody at HP that can do it. As you can see nobody can do it so I guess it just cannot be done. That is unless some fine person out there has discovered a way to do it. If thats the case please tell me ho wo do it.More replies
Hi, Got a Probook 470 G1 that doesn't want to power up. The small LED beside the power input socket is flashing constantly on and off (white). I've tried removing the battery and holding down the power key as recommended but to no avail. Also tried powering it up without the battery, but still only get the flashing white led. According to one forum, the flashing white led is a sign of a battery straight out of the factory that needs charged. The laptop was working fine until a couple of days ago. I inadvertently left it on all day with a powerbank connected to the usb. I'd thought it was my mobile phone that I'd plugged in. Is it possible that connecting the powerbank had damaged the battery? Any advice would be gratefully received.More replies
I have 2 HP Probook 4545. We have a domain and shared folders on the server. When I try and add the default save location I get the message "unsupported file location" also I get the message that it needs to be indexed. Funny thing is it only happens with the HP 4545's. I can log on to any other laptop and they are good. I have tried the normal things like linking another folder and also the command mklink with the same results. Any ideas?
I would like to get some additional information about this if you don't mind.
What program are you trying to change the default save location in? Is this for My Documents, is it for Microsoft Word, is it for Microsoft Excel?
What is the exact error message you get when you try to add the default save location?

Hi,I've twice had to exchange a Probook 450 G3, for additional reasons also (faulty power connector), so have had experience with 3 units altogether. All 3 had the same issue, the fan would kick in too often, a few instances a minute, making an up and down whirring sound which was very annoying and distracting. The strange thing is that the fan would kick in when the CPU usage was minimal, <5%, web browsing is the most taxing thing I do, no gaming or intense graphic applications.Never had an issue like this with any other laptop/computer, it's basically brand new so no possibility of dust, too hot environment etc. My 8 year old Dell laptop with much more inferior specs handles these activities easily with infrequent fan noise/activity.The laptop is not getting noticeably hot for the fan to turn on and off so often. Is the G3 so heat inefficient that the CPU gets too hot very easily, or is the fan's thermal sensor temp. range too low and the fan is kicking in unnecessarily? I've updated the BIOS and chipset and already contacted HP support who want me to send it to them, but I explained that this issue happened on all 3 units, revealing that the model design/components could be at fault.Would appreciate any insight/explanation for this.More replies

Hi: Your notebook is not supported by HP for W8, W8.1 or W10. The missing devices have no bearing on why the audio is not working. You use the windows 7 drivers for the base system and pci simple comms controller devices. The base system device needs this driver. This package contains the Ricoh Media Card Reader Driver for the supported notebook models and operating systems. About two weeks ago I bought an HP Probook 4710s. Everything was fine until about 2-3 days ago. I was playing a game on my computer when it randomly turned off. I tried powering it back on and it shut off within two seconds. It felt a little hot so I went to bed and it worked fine the next day. The next day I didn't play any games and I was just using it normally, (browser, yahoo and aol messanger) and it shut off again. It didn't feel as hot this time. Finally, this morning I was watching TV and put down laptop to get a drink and when I got back a minute later my computer had shut off. This time it was not very hot at all. I've been googling things but haven't really been able to find any answers. I don't know if it is a hardware issue, or lack of updates of some sort, or If i got a bug that makes my computer think it's overheating and shut down. It's pretty annoying since I JUST got this computer. Any information in the right direction is appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Hey guys, I recently bought ProBook 450 G3 with i3 Skylake processor and 256GB SSD. Dont get me wrong, it is well crafted machine, but one thing gets on my nerves. Due tu specs, I did expect almost complete silence. However, when I am broswing, or even doinn simple things in Office, the fan countinously goes very loudly on and off, for a short period of time (5 sec.) without any reason. The notebook´s temperature in that situation is around 40C, but I believe it is not the main factor, since not always when the laptop is over 40C fan kicks in. I mean, it is irregular and I am not able to pinpoint the cause, mainly because there may not be any. As the fan noise is very hearable, it makes working on this laptop in quiet enviroment kind of annoying. I have to add that all drivers and BIOS updated and no obstales are near the vent. I also tried various power plans etc. Basically all to minimize that behaviour but it still occurs. Any idea how to solve this is more than appreciated. Thanks in advance!
I'm having the same problem, in fact I had to exchange a few Probook 450 G3s for various reasons including the weird and overactive fan noise, and all had the same fan issue, makes you doubt the build quality. This is my first and last HP laptop, I won't be buying HP again, back to Dell or someone else.1 more replies

I was trying to restore the factory settings to get rid of some unwanted software I couldn't delete. The recovery process kept failing. Now when I try to start the laptop it says there is no operating system installed. I want to download a recovery cd on my other laptop, write it to a cd/DVD disc, and restore the laptop from this recovery disk, can I download the files needed to do this anywhere. I will buy one if necessary but would obviously prefer a free version. The laptop is around 12 months old, may be just over, may be just under.
Shaunh84 Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!I read your post about needing recovery media and wanted to help. Sorry, there is nothing you can download and nothing available for free. mjs0623 Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums! While Microsoft tells you that there is no risk in the Win10 Upgrade, because they let you believe that you can always revert back to your original OS and setup within 30 days, the ugly fact of the matter is that the Win10 GoBack function has proven to be unreliable -- and when it fails, it can leave machines in a corrupted state -- which doesn't always happen, but it does happen often enough to be a problem and you won't get any warning in advance that it is going to trash your PC!If that is not bad enough, the Win10 Upgrade is know, in some cases, to corrupt the Recovery partition stored there by the OEM that built the original machine. This pretty much guarantees that no HP Recovery is going to work: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Video-Display-and-Touch/HP-Recovery-Manager-Blocked-After-Windo... So yesterday I opened my Probook 4540s, and it was at 0% charge (The OS literaly displayed that), which was weird. I tried playing with it a little, I've connected it to a charger, and it did not detect it - and eventually the probook shut down.At this moment the laptop won't turn on, and my guess is it's either the power brick, or the motherboard. I tried replacing the power cable connected to the brick but it didn't quite help. When the power cord is connected to the laptop, the LED blinks each second, but its a weird blink, like not on\off, it's turning on, blinking, turning on, blinking etc, but the laptop isn't charged, it wont start with either the battery connected or without it. Tried hard resetting, didnt work either.Does that sound like more of a motherboard issue? If so, what could I do to fix it? Should it be expensive?
When I say it did not detect the charger I mean it was simply not charging1 more replies

I bought my laptop new for this purpose also 4 years ago. I needed firewire and couldn't quite afford a macbook or imac plus I am familiar with windows OS. I could of went with a hub of some sort but my desktops were already full of stuff. Anyways I bought the HP Probook 6465b after the store owner swearing it would function just as good as a macbook. IT HAS BEEN A NIGHTMARE! I guess simply for the fact of not going with an intel chip. My Question, Is there an upgrade im unaware of or a part or two I can buy to fix these issues cheaper than a used macbook or laptop on windows garaunteed to functionas needed?More replies
