Cannot enable internal network wifi adaptor on b59...

Q: Cannot enable internal network wifi adaptor on b59...

I have a b590 running under windows 7 ultimate that defies every attempt to enable the Broadcom 802 11n network adaptor. Device manager shows it as fully functioning. Any attempt to connect & enable it through network and sharing fails, and I cannot alter the power management settings within the properties screen of the device. Can anybody help with this?

I've just installed a wireless PCI adaptor (Tenda W322P 11N) in my desktop PC but I can't 'enable' it - every time I double click it starts to enable then stops and leaves it disabled with no warning or error messages.

The system is definitely seeing it as it's listed in Device Manager, and if I bring up Network Connections (using ncpa.cpl) it's listed and shown as disabled. Why would windows stop it from being enabled??

I've tried downloading new drivers from the manufacturers site in case the drivers on the disk were old - no difference. I uninstalled it and removed the drivers and then re-booted so windows would use it's own drivers - no difference.

It seems the system has a problem with it, but surely ONE of the drivers would work if it was a driver problem?

A:Windows wont let me enable wifi adaptor

the software driver on their site is up to version 4.
If you are running on the driver off the disk it may be problematic.

I just installed this product USB Dual High Gain Antenna Wireless N Wifi Adaptor
USB Dual High Gain Antenna Wireless N Wi-Fi Adapter (eBay item 170608181616 end time 25-Jul-11 14:23:40 AEST) : Computers

Soon as I plugged it in, my Win 7 (64) machine instantly identified it and installed the driver. Only problem is, the adapter remains disabled. I try to enable it, but it instantly disables itself when I do.

I could not find any clues in the System event log.

It's actually an rtl8187 chip by realtek. I tried installing drivers from the manufacturer (from the CD and from the internet) but windows insists that the microsoft driver it installed on detection is the most up-to-date driver and it ignores mfr driver. I tried installing a "legacy device" and I manually chose the mfr driver, but it does not work (and still has the microsoft driven device listed in device manager).

I tried this unit on another PC (also running windows 7 64bit) and it worked flawlessly. But on the two machines which really need the device, they both cannot enable the device once installed.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hello Spasmoid, welcome to SF!

A couple of questions to help me understand what happens better...
- From your (limited) system spec's I gather you're connecting this on a tower (desktop pc)?
- Did this tower did have a previous wireless USB connection?
- Did the pc on which it DID work already have a USB connection + is that PC also a tower/desktop (i.e. not a laptop)
- Did you try removing all related installed drivers, reboot, install software from disk first and only then connect the device?

I have an HP Pavilion DM1-3100sa laptop. AFAIK, it's pretty much the British/European version of the American DM1z, and is more or less identical.

I installed a pair of VPN clients on it: Hamachi and Watchguard Mobile VPN 10.10. I noticed that the wireless connection started to behave erratically (dropping in and out, refusing to connect), so I uninstalled them both. This made both my network adaptors (wired and wireless) refuse to work at all any more.

In an attempt to get them going again, I opened up device manager, turned on "Show hidden devices" and just uninstalled everything under the Network Adaptors tab and rebooted, on the grounds that Windows would be smart enough to just re-detect and re-install the drivers again.

And it worked! Mostly. Both devices now appear in device manager (and report that they are "working properly"). The wired connection works fine (I'm posting this over it). The wireless connection, however, appears "disabled" in Network Connections, and trying to "enable" it does nothing.

"Diagnose this connection" tells me that there "might be a problem with the driver", specifically that "Windows couldn't automatically bind the IP protocol stack to the network adapter".

The laptop has a keyboard button to turn the wireless adaptor on and off to save battery. That appears to work fine: the LED on the key flicks between white (on) and orange (off) when I press it. There's no obvio... Read more

What would be the best way to do this?

HIMy HP250G3NOTEBOOK network adaptor won't connect to our home WiFi but other devices can still connect. I have tried disabling and enabling the network adaptor, making sure air plane mode is off, refreshing the PC, restarting the router and troubleshooting the network adaptor. I have also followed the steps on the HP network and troubleshooting. The WiFi can only connect if I plug in an Ethernet cable, but it is very inconvenient.  Thanks,Vanesia.

Hi

I'm having wifi problems with my lappy, but I can't figure-out whether it is hardware or software. There is evidence to suggest that recent versions of Windows 10 have been causing wifi problems. If the problem _is_ with Windows and they are going to fix it, then I can stop worrying about trying to fix the hardware (I am travelling abroad and it is near-impossible to find expertise/parts/tools).

System: Levono Yoga2 Pro laptop. Intel Core i7-4500U. 8GB RAM. Windows 10 64 bit.

This was evidenced in the Taskbar, Action centre, Settings dialogs of the PC. The Windows version was upto date at the time, but downloading the next week's Microsoft Patch Tuesday updates (9th Nov) fixed the problem. System working AOK. Yay.

Hi All,

Got a problem with the above wifi device. This is pci-e. Downloaded the 64 bit vista driver from the abit website (tried all three mirrors!) and the driver and piece of software install fine. But then the software won't recognise that the card exists ('could not find abit airpace wifi network adaptor' error) and vista says it cannot find a suitable driver. The device just shows as 'unknown device' in device manager and wants to reinstall driver. Has anyone else had this problem with this card and how did they resolve it, if at all?

Best regards,

Chris Lloyd

My desktop computer loses connection regularly and I cannot locate as to why. I have many other devices throughout the house at various locations which maintain a connection fine.

When the connection drops it still displays I am connected, but there is clearly no connectivity.

I've tried toggling between two devices, one an eternal PCI adapter and the other a USB adapter. I get interruptions on both, so my conclusion is there must be a setting causing this.

The desktop has been moved to other locations just in case of interference, and I've tried channel swapping as well.

A:Network interruptions with both internal and usb wifi adapter.

I would suggest choosing a single wifi device and uninstalling any wifi utilities that you have installed, or drivers for any other wifi device (including disconnecting them). Then follow this tutorial to see if it helps at all with the single wifi device you have installed (created by Dinesh): Internet Troubleshooting Guide

recently i was having major computer issues on my desktop, i did a full restore to factory settings and after doing a few windows updates i found that my network adaptor was not finding any signals. it does not show up in the change adaptor settings page or in the device manager page. when i troubleshoot my internet connection it says an ethernet cable is not properly plugged in. I have a desktop computer but it definately has a wireless network card. i used to get windows updates for it and it just stopped working one day. when i look in the BIOS the only option related to booting a network card is B03 D00 Yukon PXE. no matter when i boot it i still dont get wireless signals. when i go into the boot menu and try to boot this device it says " PXE E61: media test failure please check cable" i have opened the tower and the card is securely in its slot. i thought i would workaround by getting a usb wifi card. I installed it and connected to the internet and it alternated between having a connection to the internet and being connected to the network but not the internet. even when it is connected to the internet i cannot reach any web pages. my dropbox desktop files update very slowly (7kb/s). when i am connected with the usb card the network stops working for everyone else in the house. they can no longer reach web pages or continue downloads. please help.

So I just got a brand new laptop, a Dell Inspiron. I turned it on, started adjusting properties to suit me, and tried to connect to my internet connection. In the process I wanted to disconnect from my internet, but nstead I pressed disable. Now I can't figure out at all how to enable the thing again. I try to troubleshoot it and it tells me that the wireless adaptor is disabled, but gives me absolutely no clues on how to enable it again.

How do I do this? 5 minutes old and I already have problems...

Hi,

Usually its a special keystroke, something like ALT+F8 - check above the laptop keys : are there special functions shown, perhaps a wireless icon?

If you are able to take a photo of the keyboard and post here we can solve it in two shakes of a lambs tail.

Hey so at my apartment complex all I have is wifi available, there seems to be a ethernet port on the wall downstairs but I dont think it works. I was thinking of getting a Wifi to Ethernet adapter but I do not know if that actually will make it so my connection is stable and doesnt get affected by people streaming etc. I notice that it says it would pick up wifi and then I could use my ethernet to connect it to my computer. I don't really understand how all this works. I would like some help figuring out what to do. I can always try that port. or is there something I can plug into that port that would give me a stable connection? I'm running out of ideas. Anything helps. Thanks!

Hi,

I have spent ages looking through posts on here and haven't been able to find exactly what Ive been looking for. However, as people on here clearly know exactly what they are talking about, I thought Id ask for your help

I have a FS Amilo Li1718. Until this week, when I started my machine, it started with wifi auto enabled, so I didn't have to use the hot key to search for my router. I could just boot it up, leave it and it would come on and connect immediately to my wireless router.

I then had a crash and had to manually reboot. Since then, this facility has stopped and I now have to wait for my machine to start, then manually press the hot key for wireless to enable.

Not a massive problem, but I would ideally like the automated process to return. I have been dealing with the techguys @ pcworld, but they seem to be struggling with it a bit

Thanks in advance...............

I upgraded my friends HP laptop to Windows 10. The issue now is I can't enable Wifi. The card is recognized correctly in Device manager and no issues is found with it. It looks like it is fine. However in the Network Settings WLAN is set to "Off" and when I try to turn it on it always jumps right back to off. eg. I can't enable it.

HP is now help as they clearly state any laptop bought prior to specific date in 2013 will not get any driver updates from their side for windows 10. (Guys, never buy HP again please...). And updating through device manager only tells me it's the newest driver available.

The Wifi card i Broadcom 4313GN card. I searched for win 10 drivers but did not find anything. They only offer linux drivers on their homepage...

So can anyone either provide a solution to the issue or link to a win 1' driver for this wifi card?

Just recently I disabled my internal mic in favor of an external mic. I tried to disable it the normal way but every time I kept disabling it, it would re-enable. I went to the administrator section to disable the internal mic that way and it worked, but it worked a little too well. Now when I go into my sound menu, it says no audio devices are installed. I can't simply right click and show disabled devices to re-enable it. I know this trick and it's not helping me. No devices are showing up either way. Now that I've done this, my external mic is not even working. Usually I can figure these types of things out on my own but this one is a whole different story. Please help!

Turns out I actually got it working. By typing "internal" in the start menu search box, there is an option to find and fix problems. Luckily, it recognized shutting off your internal mic as a problem and it fixed it.

Ah yes, the famous Windows 10 USB WIFI adaptor driver issue. You could try unzipping the drivers and from device manager selecting "have disk" and pointing to the inf file. But I have my doubts for success from posts like this:

I currently have a desktop MB that has wifi on the chip and this solved my USB wifi problems once and for all. You can check this thread when I had a similar problem (post 15).

The D Link DWA-182 firmware C worked for me in Windows 10. You have to make sure you have the revision C model (not A). However, even with that there were issues. Windows 10 recognized it as the realtek (chip) drivers. To get the D link drivers showing up (and working) in Windows 10 I had to extract the drivers and point to them in device manager. Then they installed and I didn't have disconnect issues after that (well, most of the time).

You could try this D Link one but make sure your store has a return policy just in case. Otherwise I would suggest a search on all the adaptor manufacturers (Asus, etc) to see if their model actually has a Windows 10 driver to download. If they don't, good possibility there will be an issue.

Ok so I want to hook my Toshiba laptop to the TV so I can do whatever with it in the living room.

Now there are two ways I can see one is a HDMI cable - bit messy and I really don't like having cables draped across the floor etc
The other I saw a You Tube clip on a plug in box for the TV so that I can use the laptop to the TV. However this fellow said it was "a box" - well not being Einstein or a clairvoyant I have no idea what these devices are called and hunting through my local suppliers listings I cannot find what this device is so can someone please tell me what exactly is it called??

The only concern is security of course so will my laptop signal be picked up by others close by if so I am not real sure about using this method.

Can someone explain to me the diff between a TNC and SMA connector in a wifi antenna? A company has asked that I change out all of their wifi access points with new linksys AP's they purchased. The current AP's have a antenna connected with a cable. The cable looks similar to a standard COAX cable, but smaller. The connector is also smaller.

When I remove the standard antenna from the linksys, the plug is too large for the current cable.

I belive that I need a TNC to SMA adaptor, but I'm not sure. Does anyone know? Also, can the connectors be purchased at a hardware/electronics store, or is online the best place?

A:Wifi Antenna (TNC vs SMA Adaptor)

This is the TNC connector.

Here's the SMA Connector.

Note the subsection for the SMA specification that specifies the Reverse SMA, which is commonly used for most WiFi equipment antennas.

Is there a program that could accomplish this or is what I'm asking terribly difficult to accomplish?

Something that may be significant is that my integrated audio chip set is not manufactured by Realtek (nor is any other part of my computer).

You could try something like Virtual Audio Cable. Theres a trial version available.

I have a T61 7665-AC2 with an Intel wifi link 4965 adaptor.  Since I installed windows 8.1, the laptop boots with limited internet connectivity.  I have to run the network diagnostics which resets the adaptor and it is fine.  Until the next time I boot the laptop.  I have driver version 13.4.0.139.  Windows says it is the latest one, but I found 14.03 on the Lenovo site...except it isn't for windows 8 and it won't install and says Access is Denied (but I am the admin on the PC).  I tried the Intel site but it says my adaptor is no longer supported.   Any ideas?  Thanks!

A:WiFi Adaptor problems with Windows 8.1

Intel 4965AGN is not supported in Windows 8. I have the same issue, except my connectivity is fine but I get random BSOD's involving 'netwlv64.sys'. If you search Google for 'netwlv64.sys windows 8' you'll find tons of people with the same issue. In my case, it's even worse now in 8.1 than it was in Win 8. I've read that some people have had success installing the Vista driver, but also that this creates other (reliability) issues. Your best bet is simply to purchase a new wifi card. I ordered an atheros card from eBay a couple of weeks ago, but haven't received it yet. Note that if you do purchase a new, non Lenovo approved, wifi card, you will first have to install the Middleton BIOS to remove the "Whitelist".

I have always connected to the internet via a external USB WiFi adapter. Now I need to connect to the one that is built in to my mother board. I went to Device Manager and Enabled it, but it isn't discovered. Do I need to do something else.

And when I connect to it, finally, how do I make sure its a 'private' network and not public.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi,

computer has some issues with the wifi adaptor. If i install it, and set windows to control it, at some point, after "connecting" for >5 mins, it reports: "Connected"... kinda ridiculous, because if i punch in ipconfig /all in the console, it does not show this adaptor's IP settings at all. If I change the IP setting thourgh the properties window, it prompts me to reboot. After the reboot, the settings are not applied!

However, in the device manager, it shows the device and it says it's working fine.

USB driverupdate did not solve the problem, I can't find a bios update any more... any better ideas? PLEASE?

Your LAN connection may be disabling the Wireless, hence the problem. Open Wireless Network Connection (the one on the right) and go into Properties - Configure - Advanced - see any options that would disable Wireless when LAN is connected.

I purchased a HP Stream 11 notebook/laptop last week and for the last week have been very happy with it (its pink) but earlier tonight a problem has occurred and now I cant use it. I was half way through watching a programme paused it for ten minutes went back to watch it and it was no longer connected to the internet, the internet access symbol has an X in a red circle above it. I cant connect to or search for any wireless networks. I have ran diagnostics and it came back saying no problems found but it is a problem and a major one, It seems that the wifi driver has disappered,When I go to 'turn wireless devices on and off' it only has the options for either flight mode and Wireless devices bluetooth!! I have searched to try and find what the problem is and apparently there should be a wifi option here to. Please help me I dont know what to do.

Hi, I have recently been having problems trying to get a 5GHz hotspot up and running with windows 10 with the latest Anniversary Update. I need it because I live in student accommodation and have no control over my Wifi which is slow and unreliable, however the internet from the wall is pretty good and my pc is on pretty much 24/7 anyway. It really needs to be on the 5GHz band, as there are too many other things on 2.4GHz that drastically effect performance.

I have bought two Wifi Adaptors, The first one was a Mediatek RT2870 (AC600), which worked perfectly fine using the Mediatek Driver until the anniversary update, now it won't work at all, not even for wifi, device manager just says the device is not working properly, I have tried many, many drivers and am pretty confident that it just isn't compatible with the latest build of Windows 10, at least without a driver update (which is unlikely).

Next I bought a TP-Link Archer 4UH (AC1200), Not expecting any issues from a big and reputable company, and was going to use the Soft-AP feature, only to find that doesn't work at all in windows 10 (or at least the current build), the adaptor works just fine for Wifi, but that's not my intended use for it.

I then found out that Windows 10 Anniversary comes with the functionality to create a 5GHz Wifi Hotspot built in, but non of my (reasonably popular) adaptors work with it, or through their own software, so my question is what adaptors actually will work reliably with this fe... Read more

When I first got it I installed the driver off the disk. However I was still unable to get the device to detect any networks or for that matter enable itself in the network connections screen. So I went to their site and got the latest driver. Still did not work. I spent a few hours searching google, reinstalling restarting, and in general doing anything that seemed like the normal procedure when I cant get something to work. Yet here I sit with a wireless adaptor that every one else on google says works perfectly fine, and it wont work for me. Help please.

The Tablet PC is equipped with a x86 Intel Atom Z670 processor and the Marvell 88w8787 Wifi/Bluetooth chip.

After doing both a upgrade install(keeping Win7 files) and also a CLEAN install of Windows 8 onto this same Tablet PC, my Network Adaptor is stating errors, and not working.

My Tablet PC wifi connection worked OK with Windows 7, but now fails with Windows 8.

Any advice and/or recommendation?

BTW, this is related to the earlier POST: Marvell AVATAR Wireless-N Network Controller (SDIO) - Network adaptor driver installed. File version: 14.57.8025.39, dated: 02/29/2012.

This driver installed and worked for Windows 7, but fails in Windows 8.
This driver is the driver that automatically gets identified by Windows UPDATE for my Tablet PC type.

I'd tried with Ad-hoc networks but for some reason other devices couldn't connect to the network I created. I'm just wondering what I could've done wrong!

Ok, you only require one wireless NIC in order to create a hosted wireless network, you can receive and send the wireless through a single NIC. You can use either one for this but you don't need both.

You can use the command prompt to set this up but using the connectify software might be a better choice if you want to connect on start up. You can also do this with a virtual router, take your pick.

Connectify For Windows 8

This one shows the manual set up using the command prompt.

Or you can install a virtual router.

I got a Dell E6220 with Windows 7 32bits. Our System Admin pushed the new A/V upgrade from Symantec 11 to Symantec 12 and that broke all the network connectivities including Ethernet and Wifi.

I was able to run CleanWipe couple time and get rid of all the Symantec crap and checked the registry to make sure there aren't any Symantec stuff in there.

I was able to re-install the Ethernet adaptor and that got the internet working. But when I un-install the WiFi adaptor and re-installed it. It never really re-established the connection between the hardware and Windows. I un-installed the adaptor and re-installed it couple times but no prevail.

The adaptor's driver is installed properly and it's enabled in the control panel. But there is X mark on the wifi symbol and it says troubleshoot. When I try to troubleshoot it say the driver might not be installed properly.

I also plugged in the Netgear USB Wifi Adaptor and it was able to install it but it's doing the same thing as the built in adaptor.

I restart the WLAN service couple times but still no prevail. The Ethernet is working fine without any issue.

So it seems like the WiFi connectivity/services are messed up in the registry. I would hate to re-install windows. ANY SUGGESTIONS??. THANKS IN ADVANCE.

Project sharing tools

I'm looking for a very quick way to set up some project sharing across Multiple sites and external customers. (maybe 20 to 40 people)

The timescale is very short term to setup, ideally, evaluate and set up in 5-10days and will run for approx 1year.
Our IT department is currently looking at sharepoint, but the timescales to implement are to long.

I would like a tool to enable an internal project team which resides on different networks across the UK and an external project team to be able to share information, Project plans, business cases, presentations, etc etc etc , without needing to be connected to our internal network, but secure.

The project needs to be secure etc as this will include confidential information.
Happy to pay for the service, but i would need to do a business case and justify the outlay

I have been pointed at ProjectPlace.com as an example.

Thanks in avance for suggestions

Hi Ruben_Palacios ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

First to make sure that Airplane mode (page 6) is not enabled, there is a hotkey on top of the keyboard with an icon of a plane.  Check if that would enable your wifi .

Else you can try to set the default of the BIOS ,
Access the BIOS by turning off the laptop and then use the Novo button (item2 page 9) on the left side next to power to turn it on. Novo menu would appear to offer BIOS set up , F9 to load defaults F10 to save and exit .

Load up windows and check if there is a wifi icon at the base of the screen.
Check also on device manager if there is any yellow mark or black down arrow  to indicate any need to reinstall drivers from the support website.

Update us how it goes.

Provided you have a WiFi adapter installed in your notebook, you will need to turn on WiFi in your notebook then sign on to an available wireless network.  I suggest downloading your user manual and reading up on this subject for more information. If you do not see any wireless networks, you may need to purchase a Wireless Router from your internet service provider.  If you do not have a WiFi card in your computer you will need to contact Lenovo directly to purchase a compatible card for your specific notebook.

Also - make sure you have a good anti virus software suite installed before you go online.

Good luck.

I just bought a new computer, Dell Dimension 3000 Pentium 4. I set it up, on my desk, installed all the cables and such, plugged in my Ethernet cable and tried to launch Internet Explorer and nothing.... the pages do not load. Unsure of what it could be I quickly called my ISP, thinking it was something I did wrong, went through all the setup steps, ping tests and they convinced me it was my Network Adapter. The ping test went OK, but they that only tests the card, not the connection and believe it could be the port. When I ping to a website it times out. I notified the seller (eBay of course) and they quickly sent out a new PCI Adapter, which I quickly installed at my earliest convenience. Still nothing...
Am I missing something? Is there any test I can do to pin-point my problem? I'm using my old computer Dell 700 mhz, to surf and troubleshoot this predicament. I tried to notify Dell, but their tech support sucks (nothing like being on hold for 40-45 minutes just to clear this up). I also tried to call D-Link tech support and after holding for 20 minutes, they decided to disconnect me. Please help...

A:Network Adaptor

When you look at Device manager what does it say about your ethernet card or network adapters. do you have any yellow Exclaimation marks indicating any problem hardware. You might try unistalling the network adapter in device manager and rebooting hte computer to let window redetect and reinstall the drivers for the NIC. Oh you are using Windows Xp are you not?

Hey. I just had a new harddrive put into my laptop. Only to realize that I cannot connect to the network because there is no network adaptor installed. My other laptop has a Broadcom 802.11g network adaptor so i am looking for a download that I can put on a disk and then upload to the laptop. Does this sound like a good plan? Also, I am not exactly sure I know how to download to a disc.....any help? Thanks.

I haven't heard of any complaints (yet), but that doesn't mean that it will. I guess it depends on what you did you your PS2

What is the make and model of the computer? Are there any yellow exclamation marks in Device Manager? If there are then right click the device and select Properties. Under the Details tab select Hardware IDs in the dropdown box. Copy and post the first line.

Dear Friendz, I am using Lenovo Y460 laptop.I was able to switch on WiFi earlier but it is not working now.I think it happened earlier also but somehow by updating relevant drivers the issue fixed (did not remember exactly). Now since few days in my system tray ?Intel ®My WiFi Technology? icon is there and when I click/right click on it all the options are grayed out due to which I could not enable WiFi. But one option ?Open Intel® My WiFi Utility? is allowed to select and when I opened, the profiles option is again grayed out and it is displaying message that ?Network Adapter Not Found?.Then I went to Control Panel---->Devices--->Device Manager--->Network Adapter--->Intel(R) WiFi Link 1000 BGN---->and updated the drivers here.  Restarted the machine but issue did not fix. Then deleted that Intel(R) WiFi Link 1000 BGN from Network Adapters and deleted drivers (C---->Program Files--->Intel---->WiFi---->Drivers)?downloaded from internet and uploaded drivers again (C---->Program Files--->Intel---->WiFi---->Drivers) then restarted the machine again no use. I also updated S32 and S64 in Win7 as I could see one folder name called drivers in C drive.( C---->Drivers--->Intel Wireless WiFi Link Driver--->Win7--->S32, S34 Folders) I am now totally confused?..Lenovo support does not want to help and they are telling to sign up for extending warranty otherwise asking to take this machine to... A:Could not enable Intel My WiFi on my laptop

hi K. Sharath,

From this microsoft article, it looks like the Intel My WiFi technology is not compatible with the Intel(R) WiFi Link 1000 BGN card and is only applicable to certain types of Intel Wi-FI adapters.

To turn ON the Wi-Fi capability of the Lenovo Y460, you will need to:
1. Slide the physical wi-fi switch to the ON position
  - Link to picture

2. Press Fn+F5 to enable the wireless card (ensure Current Status is set to "ON")
  - Link to picture

Note:
The Lenovo Energy Management Driver must be installed for the function keys to work

3. If same problem, boot into the BIOS by pressing F2 on startup and ensure that the WLAN Device is Enabled.
  - Link to picture

Let me know how it goes.

Regards

I have a problem, normally I press Fn and F5 to bring up the window to enable/disable Wireless Lan and Bluetooth. But it's suddenly stopped working and I cannot switch on my Wireless Lan. This is on IdeaPad Y580 running Windows 7. 1. When I press Fn F5 no window opens. 2. When I press Fn F6 my track pad is enabled/disabled as normal, although I do not see the notification on screen. 3. When I press the Fn and volume or brightness controls, they work perfectly, but again I do not notification on screen, the bars showing level of volume or brightness. 4. Also the One Touch Recovery and One Key Theater buttons are not working. But the audio Mute button is working. 5. I have uninstalled the Lenovo Energy Management software and reinstalled it but no difference. 6. I have checked the BIOS and Wireless Lan is enabled. 7. I also saw that in Task Manager I cannot see utility.exe running. This is really causing me problems, can anyone suggest a fix? Thanks, Dave.

A:Cannot enable wifi using Fn and F5 keys - Y580

Finally fixed it... 1. I uninstalled and reinstalled the Lenovo Energy management Software - No difference. 2. I uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers for the Wireless LAN - No difference. 3. I noticed that the OneKey Recovery button wasn't working, so I decided to uninstall and reinstall the OneKey Recovery software...it worked!  4. In Task Manager I can now see that utility.exe is running as below:  Now I have no idea why the OneKey Recovery software would affect the Lenovo Wireless Device Settings?  But I hope this might help someone else! All the best, Dave.

This is my first post here, so please excuse any mistakes I may make. My HP 2000 laptop isn't allowing me to enable my wifi. If I press F12, it enables and disables Airplane Mode instead of my wireless connection. I've had to do this before, and it was through the control panel I think? I'm using Windows 8 OS. Any help is appreciated,

Emily

I have Win 7 Home Premium.

Is there an easy way to disable my wireless connection so that (a) it does not enable itself after a reboot, and (b) I don't need to implement the complete process to re-enable the wireless?

Under normal circumstances, the re-enable after a reboot is fine. I can disconnect WiFi from the system tray, and it reconnects after reboot.

But sometimes, I might want wireless to remain disabled after reboot. For example, if I'm doing a database restore, and the database starts synching after a reboot (such as Evernote), it could cause problems :-)

At the moment, I simply switch off the router until the database restore is complete.
.

A:How to turn off WiFi so that it does not re-enable after reboot?

Just don`t let it connect.

Doesn`t the laptop have an on off switch for wireless ? Most laptops do.

Hi,

I have a Sony Vaio with a switch on the front that turns WIRELESS on/off. Whenever I turn the switch 'off', I get a pop-up box that says something like 'Alert: Wireless has been turned off'. The pop-up also had an option to turn off this notification. I turned off this notification a week ago but now i would like to turn it back on. I have been looking at a lot of settings on my computer but I don't know how to turn it back on.

Does any one know how to turn the notification back on?

Thanks in advance.

Hi

I'm new to 7 (all my desktops are XP Home).

With XP, the OS just connects automatically to my home wireless network.

However with this netbook, I have to do it manually everytime I reboot - it's a real pain.

Not sure if this OS, hardware or both.

Can anyone advise ?

I've looked at services.msc WiFi service and it's set to automatic already ....

thanks

PS Also, is there a way to get 7 to boot straight to desktop, without having to click on user icon or enter password ?

The reason these 2 are important to me is that this netbook is basically a music server, so when I come in from work etc., I'd like to just power up the netbook then walk off and play stuff via my network (Squeezebox) players

Hello Guys,

So my office PC keeps going to unidentified network and I have to disable and enable the network adapter for it to get an IP address and connect back to the network. I'm using a LAN connection not wireless by the way.

I have not seen this issue on any other computers/laptops on the network, only on this specific system so I'm thinking its not a problem with my DHCP or anything.

Any other information required please let me know and any help in fixing this would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

A:Network adaptor keeps going to 'unidentified network'

I don't see it often but usually unplug the Ethernet cable, use Device Manager to Uninstall the NIC/Network Interface Card/adapter, reboot and let the computer find the NIC and install it. Sometimes it's necessary to get new/fresh drivers for the NIC.

compaq presario desktop network adapter sr1910nx

A:network adaptor missin

Adapters and other hardware still have to be shipped the old fashioned way--UPS, Fed Ex. USPS, Pony Express, etc.

It's not listed in Device Manager? There are no warnings or errors in Device Manager?

When I search for sr1910nx I find a whole computer, not a network adapter?

Acer TravelMate 4230 Windows XP SP3 2 years old.

When I turned the laptop on after using it for over 12months I recieved this message:

Found New Hardware

"Network and Computing Encryption/Decryption Controller"

It has something to do with the missing Network Adaptor and yes I tried installing all the latest Acer Network Lan Drivers.

Re-imaging the laptop to Acers original image did not fix the problem.

It is not finding the normal network adaptor which a network cable plugs into.

It only finds the Intel Pro/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection which works with no problems.

I have tried everything but can not find the answer, Acer told me it was to do with the Windows drivers ???

Can anyone assist

Thanks

Darryl
