Q: My touch screen doesn't work after I did a factory restore o...

I bought a windows 8 hp pavilion touchsmart and touch screen worked. I updated to Windows 10 and it worked, only after I did a factory restore did it not work. I've tried everything with the device driver and another factory restore and it still does not work. I sent my computer in to get it fixed while it was under warranty and it was still not fixed. I resigned to it not working and I think that hp should have solved this problem before selling its computers. So we are blaming it on Microsoft 10, but that is not the issue when it worked until I did a factory restore and attempted everything suggested. I have a 350 dollar piece of **bleep**. Plus now my Mic isn't working and there aren't any drivers for me to upgrade to, anywhere.

My Vista hasn't been able to update since I had a nasty virus two winters ago (during which a number of files were lost.) My Internet has been slow lately and so, I decided to restore the system. When restarting with the diagnostics screen the first few options wouldn't work, but some at the bottom would--including system image factory restore. I ran this and for a time it ran fine, until an 'error' box came up. Since then, no matter what I press, Windows does not come up--only the diagnostic screen! (Also the screen turns green with a black line near the top every time I shut down or restart.)

Help, please!

I'm in it to my knees. The long and short of it is I bought a new hard drive, mine is on the verge of failure. I thought I could use the Repair CD's I got from Microsoft to reinstall, then just re-register it with the OEM license. Acer tells me this isn't possible that the motherbd won't recognize it. They said it has to be done using the original OEM edition of Vista. I can't find it.

I tried the next best thing, I was going to restore to factory settings and create a new copy, can't do the either because the eRecovery doesn't work. I've hit alt F10 until I'm blue in the face. I then went into computer files and checked the Acer files. eRecovery is there, it just doesn't work when I try booting to alt F10.
I did find a backup of all of my Acer files that I made last year, the original is 2007. I checked it against what is on the computer. Sure enough some of the Acer files are missing. On the backup is a file called Acer Inc., inside it is another folder marked eRecovery, inside that is a application file called D2D??? Is that what opens the eRecovery environment? I contacted Acer, their response was. "You are out of warranty, for a fee we will be happy to help you although we can't guarantee results". In plain English, give us some money and go to hell.

I can't even do an upgrade to windows 7 because I have to have the OEM license to back it up with. Without the OEM license the... Read more

A:Restore to factory setting doesn't work

George, Just a few thoughts to get started.

Are you shure the old hard drive didn't have the recovery partition on it? That would explain a lot.
eRecovery must be something like an Acer restore CD?? Can you boot to it with the famous hit any key when it tries to boot from CD? If it isn't booting to the CD then you need to get into the BIOS and make sure CD is first in boot order. If it still doesn't work, try cleaning the laser eye or replace your CDROM altogether.

D2D normally stands for Disk to Disk

As far as the OEM license there is almost always a MS Certificate of Authentification Sticker with the Product Key on it.

If this is in the wrong forum, I apologize. My brother has a Toshiba Satellite. I had the model written down but I lost it. I can get it from him again if it is needed. I think it has one of the the AMD x4 CPUs with the graphics build into the CPU, if that helps.

It came with Windows 7. He cannot boot anymore. He said he sent it back to Toshiba when it was still under warranty, but they told him it was not a hardware issue. So the question is, what to do next? Since he cannot do a factory restore, I was thinking he should order a restore disc from Toshiba (I'm surprised they did not advise this to him in the first place)?

He has the Windows 7 sticker on the computer, but is it even possible to order a Windows 7 install disc without paying for the full version?

I suppose I could burn a linux CD for him; I"m pretty sure the hardware is working, because he said it tries to load Windows but it cannot finish.

The touchscreen on my Yoga 260 isin't working. I first noticed this problem when the screen was acting wierdly. When you tap on your yoga a light circle appears and fades over time to mark or show where you tapped and when you swipe a trail or tail appears behind of where you swiped then disappears over time. So when I opened my Yoga these taps and swipes were appearing all over the screen ramdomly in a very rapid pace. So I restarted my Yoga and saw that the swipes and taps were still there. So I chose to restart the Yoga again and the taps and swipes dissapered. After that I noticed that the touchscreen became unresponsive but the computer runs as normal butthe screen is unresponsive. Before I discovered the problem I could remember dropped the computer a small height but caught it. If there's a solution to this problem I'm happy to listen! Thanks.

Hi Guys...I'm using the Lenovo multi touch driver for my X61T. With Windows 7 build 7000 the same driver when I wake my laptop from sleep the touch screen works. Starting with build 704x (i can't remember the exact build but it was the first leaked x64 build) when I wake the machine from sleep the touch screen doesn't work (both pen and finger touch)

I have tried to change USB settings but I haven't seen any fix. A restart of the machine means the tablet works again. Any ideas about a patch until Lenovo makes new drivers for Windows 7?

A:Touch Screen doesn't work out of sleep

There is a registry patch for better USB connectivity after waking from sleep, available from Lenovo.

Lenovo Support & downloads - Registry patch to improve USB device detection on resume from sleep for Windows Vista - Notebooks

How's the touchscreen working for you? Hope it's great! I don't like touchscreens because the screen can heat up and flicking your finger around on it can really burn.

Screen was cracked so I replaced the screen. Now touch doesn't work.
There is no "Pen and Touch" and "Tablet PC Settings" in Control Panel. In PC info it says, "No pen or touch input is available for this display."
Touch DOES work on LINUX as I ran it from a usb drive, so it is not a hardware problem.
I have reinstalled Windows.
I have another Yoga 2 Pro and comparing Device Manager in both I see no differences.
How can I get the touch to work again?

A:Why doesn't my Touch work after replacing the screen on my Yoga 2 Pro?

try refreshing your PC maybe the driver is not working properly
If the touchscreen does show up on the device manager try updating the driver from there. (it will be listed under HID )
Otherwise To refresh your PC Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, tap Settings, and then tap Change PC settings.
(If you're using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down, click Settings, and then click Change PC settings.)Tap or click Update and recovery, and then tap or click Recovery.Under Refresh your PC without affecting your files, tap or click Get started.Follow the instructions on the screen.

I have the issue that the touch screen + front camera + back camera + windows button on the screen are not working.

I tried installing the display/graphics drivers but that did not helped.

I bought this laptop from Saudi Arabia and it is still under warranty but I am out of country so i cant claim the warranty as well.

someone please sort out this issue and tell me the solution or tell me what i should do?

Help will be really appreciated.
some details about my laptop:

Toshiba Satellite U920T-B919.
windows 8.1 update 64 bit.

Thanks,

A:Satellite U920T - front/back cam + touch screen + win button doesn't work

Since you mentioned different issues with your notebook, I think that in this case its advisable to recover the notebook back to factory settings just to check if all these problems are related to system problem.

Regarding the webcam: the Windows 8 /8.1 already contains the webcam drivers and therefore additional webcam driver installation isn?t possible. Additional webcam driver does not exist simply.

From my point of few the whole description smells a little bit like a hardware problem of the upper slide part where the touchscreen is part of.
The win button as well as the both cams are located there and probably there is some lose connection between the two parts (touchscreen and keyboard)

Anyway, as I said above, its advisable to recover the notebook to factory settings just to ensure that the system isn?t the troublemaker.
In case of hardware problems, you would need to get in contact with service available in your country.

I have an Acer desktop with Vista 32bit Home Premium edition with Service Pack 1 loaded on it. My computer was working fine yesterday afternoon (at least it appeared to be), but when I tried to boot my computer up last night, I could not get my desktop to load. Windows seems to boot up, as I can get to the screen with the user names to login. No matter which user I select, however, the screen just goes black with only the cursor showing. I have tried booting from the last good boot point from the F8 menu, but the same problem persists. I have tried booting in safe mode, but the screen shows up all black once again, except for the four 'Safe Mode' texts in the four corners and the text Microsoft (R) Windows (R) (Build 6001: Service Pack 1) at the center top of the screen.

The Repair Your Computer option from the F8 menu at startup is about the only thing I have been able to get open on the computer thus far. Startup repair can't find anything wrong with the computer. When I try to do System Restore, I get the error 0x800700B7, so it can't rollback to my restore points. I ran the Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool and it didn't seem to find any errors, although I couldn't view the whole report when it restarted because the screen, once again, went completely black except for the mouse cursor when it restarted.

I am at wits end and have no idea what to do to try to get my computer to start. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated, as this is my computer... Read more

I have checked the settings for the touch pad and for what the computer does when closing the lid, they are correct. Tried booting in safe mode and still had same results. The only way to get the touch pad to come back on is if you reboot the computer. Any ideas?

I've had a problem with my computer over the past couple of months, for some reason every time I right click on anything other than my desktop, a link within a web browser, or a song in iTunes (and other media file players), Windows Explorer locks up and has to restart. I tried several different ways to fix the issue and resorted to several friends, but it remained unresolved, so I decided to simply back up my hard drive onto an external hard drive and reinstall Windows / format my hard drive. Immediately after I clicked the confirmation to take me to the process to restore everything to factory settings, my computer restarted only to have no screen of any sort show up. Nothing is booting, nothing is loading, no screens of any kind are showing up. I've tried two different monitors and the yellow light remains on both of them, I have no idea how to fix this. Help?

The keypad works, as do the left and right clicks and the pointing device, but I fing he pointing device imposible to use and as soon as either the touchpad is toched, or the pointing device is touched at the same time as the left and right clicks - the cursor goes straight back to the top of the screen (where the close button is) As I am sure you can understand - this is all but unworkable. I have looked to se if the driver needs updating - it doesn't. Can you help? Richard

Yesterday I reinstalled Windows 7 on my notebook PC. I had to use a Microsoft installation disk because unfortunately, serious errors resulted after I installed from the HP recovery program. Consequently the HP drivers that were installed automatically with the recovery program weren't installed on my system. I had to install several of them from the HP support site. I got everything to work except for the Touch volume control, or the Volume Scroll Zone as referred to by HP in the service guide. This is the device located just above the keyboard that increases or decreases speaker volume when you drag you finger on it. I installed the Quick Launch button driver but that only applied to the mouse and pointer touchpad. I looked at the devices listed in my startup configuration. I saw the synaptics pointing device and the HP quick launch buttons listed. So is the IDT PC audio driver.  What am I missing? Where I can I find it to activate the touch volume control?

I have been facing this issue from the day one since I installed Windows 10 on my laptop (Dell XPS L502x).

Native Windows Applications like all browsers, office products etc. anything that is not from the Store, works fine. I can use Touch Pad scrolling with no trouble. e.g. on Internet Explorer, Chrome, MS Word, etc.

But the apps that come out of store or the apps like those which come pre-built with Windows 10 such as new Settings UI, Microsoft Edge. Touch Pad scrolling just don't work with these apps. When I perform scrolling the scroll-icon appears but doesn't scroll the content.

This issue is only with Touch Pad. External Mouse works great with scrolling on any kind of app.

Hope to find a solution here.
Thanks

PS: drivers are all good on the machine and up to date with no warning or error.

The power button of the laptop doesn't turn on/off the laptop. I have to use a detachable remote to turn the laptop on. I don't see blue light on the power key, once the remote turns the laptop on.2. The quick play touch sensative keys above the laptop key board have blue light in most of them. But its flickering red for volume, and no indicator on the volume increase decrease touch region. Though some have blue indicator, red lights....none of the touch sensative keys function at present.3. The laptop touch pad is unresponsive. It has its blue light, which doesn't turn red even if the touch pad is locked. I use a USB mouse as of now.4. Laptop has 3 audio jacks. One for microphone, and 2 for headphone. The external speaker doesnt have any sound, so i have to plug in earphone everytime to listen anything. In control panel --> under sound --> playback ---> i see speakers and realtek digital output ---> both show green oscillating bars when an audio is played. But the volume key in quick play tab is flickering red all the time. The laptop is fully functional. But it would be great if the problems mentioned above gets fixed. Sincerely

I tried from the computer by going into the Recovery Manager, didn't work. Tried pressing F11 but doing that made the computer screen go black everything I try again....

The first time I pressed F11 the charging plug came out (someone tripped over it) and it turned off the laptop so I tried again with F11 and it did not work. It just made my screen black now
What did I do wrong and how can I get this working again?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Thank you

I'm at the end of my rope with this one. I have a Gateway NV59 laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium 64. Or perhaps I should say I had. Anyway a couple weeks ago I got a virus and bad software so I went to reset it to factory settings. After going through the whole process Windows will try to start up and then I get an error that the installation can't be completed and that I need to restart the installation. If I click ok, the computer restarts and goes back to the same error message. So I ordered the System Disc and Recovery Discs from Gateway. I have run them at least 15 times and it will go through the entire Restore process using Gateway Recovery Management software and then Windows tries to start, I get a message that windows is installing devices, etc and then the same error message. What is the problem and how do I fix it?

Hi wlindseytx,

Welcome to the Seven Forums.

Have you run diagnostics on the hard-drive of the system to ensure its not a hard-drive failure?

Also, let us know if its is an image disc or windows re-installation disc that you are using.

Please share the exact error message you receive while trying to install so we can provide you with more information on solving this issue.

So I tried to run Hijack This, but first an error message pops up saying that it is denied access to the host file. Then the program still runs but when it gets to the notepad part it says the file does not exist and if you click create it all you get is a blank file.

I have a Samsung series 7 Slate, which works great and is really fast with Windows 8. But with one piece of software the touch screen doesn't work, the menu items will light up but nothing happens when you press them. If I use a mouse it works fine and as it should. I don't think it's the software because I also used it on a HP 500 Slate and the touchscreen worked fine on that.

If anyone has any ideas for a solution to this problem I would much appreciate it.

Thanks in advance for any help.

A:Mouse works but touch screen doesn't!

There is a bit of a glitch when using older touchscreen hardware with windows 8.

Nearly all older touchscreen hardware is implemented as an mouse emulator. So when pressing on the screen it simulates a mouse click.

Windows 8 makes use of the touchscreen interface rather than the mouse interface for touchscreens, and the driver it installed for your touchscreen (if it installed one) may not be working too well with the hardware. If you install a driver separately for that touchscreen you may get back the mouse emulation for the touchscreen, but then some of the better options like gestures and sweep scrolling may not work well or at all in windows 8.

So what you really need is a touchscreen driver that is really a touchscreen driver (not a mouse emulator driver) for that model of touchscreen on your slate. If you know the touchscreen manufacturer you can maybe find a beta on their site for Windows 8? Find the touchscreen device in the hardware control panel and look up it's VID and PID to find the manufacturer if the driver page doesn;t already tell you. (There is a website somewhere that'll look up the VID/PID and tell you what the product and manufacturer is)

But.. may be slim chance. If not, try finding the normal windows 7 touchscreen drivers for it, that may help some, though not guarantee it'll be fully functional.

I have an ASUS notebook running windows 7 64-bit. I am using the QuietOffice power profile, however the screensaver won't kick in no matter what I do, and the display does not turn off even though I set it to be after 5-minutes of inactivity. I don't know if there is something running in the background... I have turned off my usb wireless mouse, and nothing....

Any ideas?

THanks.

A:HELP: power option doesn't work - screen saver doesn't start!

This is another case of factory bloatware interfering - in this case a useless factory utility overriding Win7's superior built-in version.

Googling the Quiet Office feature of Asus there are multiple reported problems. Best to default to the Win7 built-in Power Options in Control Panel. Set up a Balanced Plan unless you're a gamer then use High Performance.

I have an HP ENVY TouchSmart, Windows 8.1 and 64-bit operating system and yesterday my touch screen was working fine, and today I turn on my laptop and it doesn't work at all. Keyboard works fine, mouse works fine. everything but the touchscreen. I thought it could be complications from a very recent update but It was updated on the 17th. Under my system information it says, "Pen and Touch: No Pen or Touch Input is available for this display". I don't know if that's unusual. I've restarted it, and tried steps to fix the problem like "calibrate my screen" but i can't seem to find the settings to it. In my Device Manager settings, I can't seem to find anything relating to touchscreen software, if there is any? I take good care of my laptop but I don't know the first thing about it. There is no damage to it.  When troubleshooting Hardware and Devices, "The driver for eGalaxTouch EXC7910-1037-11.01.01 is not installed."...Problems found: eGalaxTouch EXC7910-1037-11.01.01 doesn't have a driver-Not fixed. Hardware changes might not have been detected-Detected. I've checked if anything neds to be updated. I dont know what to do from here. OK, if I read that right, you are missing the Windows 7 Boot Animation. I'm not sure if these links will help but its some place to start.

Oh, thats not DOS, there is no DOS in Windows 7. There is a command shell that you can launch from Windows but its not DOS. The first text based screen you see during boot up is the BIOS POST screen and or your Video cards BIOS screen.

The internet was not working on my Toshiba laptop, all connections were fine, I pinged my IP address, reinstalled drivers and nothing worked. I had just about had it so I decided to restore the computer to factory settings because system restore never ever works for me. Disc 1 processed and I put disc 2 in; after ten minutes I get the blue screen of death. I decided to try it again and the same thing happened! What do I do next, I really need to get this laptop back up and running until I can afford a new one. Please help. Thank you!

Hello lex72, and welcome to Bleeping Computer!!

Forgive me, but you will have to elaborate a bit more on your problem so that we can help you fix it. Your post isn't very descriptive, and it's hard to figure out what you are working with or what you are trying to do.

What Toshiba model laptop do you have?

What Operating System are you running, and what disk(s) have you used?

Are you trying to reinstall the Operating System, or repair an old one?

Please help us to help you, and give some history on what you have done so we can better target the problem and help you fix it faster.

Hi, i had my motherboard replaced due some manufacturing fault. When i got my laptop back it wasnīt working quite well so i decided to reinstal operating system. I used Backup button and restored my laptop to initial settings. This got me properly working laptop with win 8.1. Afrer i upgraded to win 10 my touch screen stoped working so i did a little research and found some topics with similar problems but any of those  didnīt solve my problem. ? This is screenshot of my deice manager, that unknown USB is my touch screen ( it says: unknown USB device (descriptor request failed)). I tried uninstal this driver, when i do that my touch screen starts working for like 3 seconds and than it stops working again. By the way this is rare to see box called HID in my device manager usually it doesnīt even show up. I tried update drivers through windows update. That didnīt change a thing so i update almost every driver manually (i download all of them from official lenovo support site) . And guess what, that did not worked eather. I am not sure which other solution i tried, because am trying to solve this problem for quite long time, but i feel like i tried everything (even reinstaling win 10) and didnīt even get close to solving this issue.Do you have some idea how to solve this problem?Sorry for grammar mistakes.

First off thanks for having me, and if this is in the wrong section please move it to the correct one.

I got a Dell Vostro 220 with Vista business 32bit from a friend that had bought a new computer because this one was giving him problems. Seems he had gotten a ransom ware virus of some sort ie; your computer has been locked, pay this and we will unlock it kind of deals.

When I got it it would hang at the splash screen and wouldnt go any farther. I ran Dr. Web boot cd and it found a bunch of trojans and crap so I let it clean them up and rebooted. Big mistake, as on the reboot I got a \boot\bcd error 0xc0000098.
I couldnt get the F8 restore to work only F2 to Bios and F12 boot selection. I could boot from a Vista DVD and attempted to repair the boot\bcd error but the DVD could not find the OS. I can see the partitions and folders using either Vista CD or ubuntu. I ran Memtest for a while, no issues. I used Acronis and made an image to an external HD.

I did some searching on the net and found a way to get the restore image to run from the command prompt from the Vista cd by using imagex /apply d:\dell\image\factory.wim 1 c:\ after doing that and rebooting the bcd\boot error is gone, I get the Vista splash screen with the green bar on the bottom for a second or two then it reboots, gets to the Vista splash screen and reboots, etc.

I put the Vista DVD back in and it will now say there is a problem with starting or something and repair and reboot but I still get th... Read more

My computer was continuously shutting down and restarting and occasionally displaying the blue screen of death. I continued to delete recently installed programs, ran computer scans with Norton 360, but the problems continued. I finally decided that I was just going to restore the computer back to original factory settings. Since I didn't have any disks, I ordered them through HP as they said that it would fix my problems.

However, after attempting to restore with the factory disks (Disk 1, Disk 2, and the supplemental disk) and following the included directions perfectly, my computer would attempt to restart but would only show the "Blue scree of Death" with a variety of reasons, including "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" and "BUGCODE_USB_DRIVER." I attempted to restore in both the boot mode and Factory Settings mode with no luck. My recent attempt won't even download the entire content of the disks as it pops up with the Blue screen of death with only 20% of the download complete.

The computer won't start normally at all, so I can't download or upload anything.

PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!

A:Logon Screen changed after Factory Restore - Windows 7

I don't have a Dell, but I do have a HP. It came with a customized Windows theme (HP styled.) What I did to get the default login screen and such back was to right click the desktop, choose personalize and selected "Windows 7" from under Aero Themes.

if that doesn't work, maybe the factory default image has modified core Windows files in it to style it to Dell's liking. If that is the case, then this tutorial can get the default windows files restored: SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker (Option #2)

Hi everyone, this is my first post so please be gentle if I break protocol or seem stupid or something. >_> <_<

Anyway, I'm having a really frustrating problem...I tried uninstalling a program with Windows Install Cleanup, but it didn't get all the files apparently - it was still showing up in the start menu and Programs and Features. Well, I thought, no big deal, I'll just do a system restore to before I installed it (I was trying the program out and I didn't like it, so it was only a couple days ago) but now I've run into a bigger problem...

I try to do system restore, and it seems to go fine, but when the computer reboots it tells me:

"System Restore did not complete successfully. Your computer's system files and settings were not changed.

Details:

System Restore failed to extract the file (C:\ProgramData\Trusteer\Rapport\store) from the restore point.
An unspecified error occurred during System Restore. (0x80070005)"

I've tried 3 different restore points and keep getting this same message, although sometimes the file it can't extract is C:\ProgramData\Trusteer\Rapport\store\app-config.cfg

Please help! I don't know what to do now. The program's "ghost" is still on my computer, but that's not nearly as worrisome as the inability to system restore at this point. What should I do?

A:System Restore Doesn't Work?

Hello,

To fix this problem you should downloaded Rapport again directly from here:
http://download.trusteer.com/Gcur4Wtnu/RapportSetup.exe
Or from our website www.trusteer.com

Once you have installed and restarted the computer the System restore should work.

I got rid of all the viruses I had using some handy tools I found and now whenever I do a scan, no threats or viruses of any kind are found, as opposed to the 3-4 that were always detected when I did certain scans. I thought this was the problem with my PC which for some reason didnt allow me to create a restore point using System Restore. But now, even when it seems to be clean and uninfected (this is not 100% fully confirmed, I'm about to do a Kasperspy thorough online scan to see what it detects if anything), it still doesnt allow me to create a restore point. I'm thinking there must be something wrong with my system registry or something. Is there anything I can do? Need your help please!

A:System Restore Doesn't Work

Is system restore turned ON and configured?

System restore sometimes has problems with proprietary chipset drivers; ie drivers written for a big box system.

FWIW system restore is pretty useless; a MUCH better option is to make an image backup of your system drive. With the price of hard drives so cheap AND the image software being free, there is no reason to not have an image backup.

My Win 7 was installed in February 2010 and at first I could use System Restore without problems. However, after some time it stopped working due to unknown reasons and now when I try to do a System Restore it looks as if it is going to be OK, but when it restarts I see the following error message:

In early January, I made a post about a restore problem. Thought that it was cleared up. I am unable to acess any of my or XP's restore points. When I went to restore to an earlier date. All appeared to be going as it should. However, when I got to my profile a message window came up that said unable to restore to (chosen date/time) etc. I chose 3 other restore points over the last month, thinking it might be some recent problem, still a no go. In the past I used to just copy my stuff and then when Windows went up, you know slows down, get's corrupted somewhere, etc. I would reinstall windows and then my drives, apps, programs, files, etc. Upon my studies I learned that the default Windows backup could do these things as well as recover system state. Well I started doing backups every so often on my home PC and my server at work. The other day I actually needed to use it as my PC had this weird issue of clicking on icon executables and not ever running them. It would refuse to start programs from the executable in the folder under program files, under start menu, or command line. It wouldn't give an error it would just click and go away. Strange huh? It would do it once the computer was on for a while and for a week or two I just would reboot, but I mean come on, that's a little annoying.

So I had a backup but it was 8 months old, but it was made on the same machine. I go Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Backup to launch it. I figure I should at least try it if I'm studying MS systems to say I've done it. I choose restore, but not the wizard, choose return system to previous state by selecting the check mark for C and also for "System State". It returns icons on the desktop of what was their months back so I assume it worked, it asks to reboot, sure go ahead. I run XP in a Dell Inspiron with Norton AntiVirus. I tried System Restore a week ago, but it didn't work. It ran but at the end I got the error message that it didn't complete and couldn't restore to the earlier point. It displayed the red "X." I deleted all of the restore points and set the amount of store to the maximum and set a new restore point. Still it didn't complete. I also ran Malwarebytes - it couldn't find any issues.

I tried it in Safe Mode and it worked - it set the new point and renamed three files - two of them were Norton files, the third I didn't recognize. I set a new point and again it DID NOT COMPLETE - I got the same error message!!

Sorry for the long message, but I wanted you to know I already tried some troubleshooting. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Problem: Windows Backup and Restore does not work. When the link is clicked, nothing happens.

Background: At one point Acronis True Image Home was installed. The uninstaller left behind an entry in key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{B98A2BEA-7D42-4558-8BD1-832F41BAC6FD} that continues to point to Acronis True Image Home.

My research indicates that this is an issue known to Acronis. They have made a "fix" available which is supposed to restore Windws 7 Backup and Restore functionality. The "fix" is a registry entry "ResourceDLL.reg" which is to be merged into the registry.

However. when merger is attempted the message "Cannot import ...... Some keys are open by the system or other processes" is displayed.

I have tried starting the computer is Safe Mode but the same message is displayed.

I have tried to manually make the change via regedit but get the message "Cannot edit Rescorce.DLL. Error writing the value's new contents.

Ownership and permissions for the key have been changed.

These have had no effect - the same message is shown when merger/editing is attempted.

It would appear that the change must be entered before Windows 7 starts but I have been unable to find a way to do that.

Looking for assistance in getting the Acronis "fix" implemented.

Thx,
C.

Ran a sfc /scannow with errors that couldn't be corrected. Attempted a restore which after reboot fails. Did a system image restore to a preupdate version (Paragon), apparently successfully. sfc still shows errors.
I am asking if I should go directly to the update section and do the MS download and gather the CBS.log?
Oh an of course lost the registration for the W10 download.

Lately, there have been some problems with my computer. I've uninstalled AVG because of a very annoying error message 'the application has failed to start because of a configuration error' or something like that. A:System Restore Doesn't Work?!

Windows Live Messenger fails to go online, it simply terminates itself. Also, after executing drwtsn32.exe and launching System Restore, it says rstrui.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log is being created.

A:touch screen on windows 10 wont work

I request you to boot the PC to BIOS and test the touchscreen in BIOS. To boot the PC to BIOS, first turn off the PC completely. Keep tapping ESC on startup. You would get a startup menuPress F10 to get into BIOS. do not keep the PC in mute. Touch the screen in BIOS, the PC should beep.  If the PC beeps in BIOS (system utility), the touch screen is fine and you are facing a driver or a software issue. If the PC does not beep in BIOS, when you touch the screen, there is a issue with the display/touchscreen. Considered as a hardware issue (service or display replacment might be required). Please share the product number of your PC. This will help get the specification of your PC and I can give further suggestions.  ****Click the White thumb to say thanks********Please mark Accept As Solution if it solves your problem****

hello i heave a nettop mini pc and i have a 7" super sk-8802-a touch screen monitor. when i purhcased it from ebay the seller told me the drivers support windows 7 . i got it and it supports everything below xp and as well as xp. i rather see if i can get it to work rather than sending it back i heard that windows 7 has a xp mode so i can use the programs on windows 7. i found a driver for it from a website called touchkit.com but its a rar file. my thought is can i install the drivers regularly and then swap out the rar files. and help would be great.

A:my touch screen dont work .... bad drivers

If you can't get it to work I would send it back and get your money back. I wouldn't even play around with the guy he misled you and I wouldn't post a good deed done on his reputation. I have seen to many people get taken on Ebay and it ticks me off because I for one have had it done to me. I now by everything brand new from Newegg and or some place I know to be reputable.

Unrar the files to a folder on your desktop and open up device manager and right click on you new touch screen monitor and click update drivers. Then select "Browse My Computer for Driver Software" and then select "Search For Drivers In This Location" and Make sure the subfolders check box is checked and then browse to you folder and click ok then click next. It will either say it is updating the drivers ot that windows has determined that the best driver is already installed. If it says the later then try an Automatic update from windows update. Before you do though go into system in control panel and click the hardware tab and select the setings for "Device Installation Settings" and set it to these setting like below in the screenshot the go back into device manager and automatically update the drivers and it will search windows update as well to see if there are drivers available for your device.

My pc would not load and was only showing a blue screen with either of two errors -wdf_violation and registry_error and trying to fix or update windows and nothing.  I then fumbled with the esc key while restarting and got to the HP image restore option.  It asked to insert DVD +R to backup, but would not backup with even a few files.  I opted to restore without backup.  Everything seemed fine,  I removed every peripherals and left only  my keyboard and mouse as instructed. They are wireless.  Now the computer restarted but all I am seeing is a black screen and nothing.  The power button is on,  I tried cold booting, and nothing.  I unplugged the power cord and turn on again, and nothing.  Please help.  I did not create the recovery disks.

Hi all
I wanted to do a system restore but it didn't work.
My computer has two hard drives, C:\ and D:\ and a CD drive E:\, I also plug a portable hard drive into it from time to time that shows up as F:\.
So I try to run system restore and it brings up a warning that it will not be able to change anything on F: because it is no longer available (I think that was the massage, something like that anyway), okay it was not plugged into the computer so I click to go ahead with the restore. The computer looks like it's doing its restore thing, tha bar graph runs and all but when it should be finished it tells me nothing was changed so pick an earlier restore dat and try again so I did that, same F: drive warning, same results. I plug the portable disk in and try again, same thing.
How can I get the System Restore to work???

Thanks in advance

So, I have this problem, since I started up my laptop this morning my windows had some issues: at the beginning a game I frequently played started running at 6 fps(usually it goes at 50),then I couldn't change the brightness, and now I can't activate my Wi-Fi. I tried to restore the windows but it always stops and there a Pop-up saying "couldn't restore windows". What should I do?

First time poster here.

I'm running Win7 Home Premium 64bit. When I try to do a System Restore, it seems to run to completion, reboots the system and then issues the following message:

"System Restore did not complete successfully. Your computer's system files and settings were not changed."

Same result in Safe mode.
Same result with AV disabled. (Kaspersky Internet Security 12)

Advice??

Thanks, Tom

A:Win7 HP 64b system restore doesn't work

Hello Toadstoll Welcome to the Seven Forums!

Would this be on a custom build where you installed Windows yourself or on an OEM premade system?

The most likely problem you ran into was a bad restore point. That can happen on occasion when you only have one or two depending the time of the month and seeing the older ones automatically being cleaned up.

Every so often a bad point is created where choosing the next older if found would be the next step. That would be the first suggestion to start with by opening the restore option again to see how many points are still seen to try another to go back a little further to see if that goes well on the next try.

Other things like running the System File Checker tool can help with minor problems. But if you are stuck trying to remove a new program tracking down entries in the system registry can be tricky at times for seeing it manually removed.

I tried to use the System Restore function on my HP and it runs, but gives a message that System Restore can't complete and doesn't work. I even manually set a Restore point and tried to go back and restore using it, but got same message?

Do I have any options, such as reinstall Restore or is there something else I can do?

Thanks for any help.

A:Restore function doesn't work anymore

It sounds as if System Restore may have become corrupted. You can try reinstalling the feature. Here's how:In Control Panel or Windows Explorer, click Folder Options and then View tab
Under Advanced Settings, scroll down and find "Show hdden files and folder." Check the box.
Find "Hide extensions for known files types." Uncheck that box. Click Apply, OK.
In Windows Explorer, find your Windows folder (usually on the C: drive but not always). Navigate to the inf folder and open it.
Find a file named sr.inf
Right click the file and select Install.

Important: This creates a new installation of System Restore, but it will delete any restore points that you had created previously.

kind regards,

A:System Restore Doesn't Work. Is It A Virus?

Hello Cross,Because you have an HJT log posted, as you stated above, you should NOT make further changes to your computer (install/uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc) unless advised by a HJT Team member, nor should you continue to ask for help elsewhere. Doing so can result in system changes which may not show in the log you already posted. Further, any modifications you make on your own may cause confusion for the helper assisting you and could complicate the malware removal process which would extend the time it takes to clean your computer. From this point on the HJT Team should be the only members that you take advice from, until they have verified your log as clean. Please be patient. It may take a while to get a response because the HJT Team members are EXTREMELY busy working logs posted before yours. They are volunteers who will help you out as soon as possible. Once you have made your post and are waiting, please DO NOT make another reply until it has been responded to by a member of the HJT Team. Generally the staff checks the forum for postings that have 0 replies as this makes it easier for them to identify those who have not been helped. If you post another response there will be 1 reply. A team member, looking for a new log to work may assume another HJT Team member is already assisting you and not open the thread to respond. If after ten days you still have received no response, then post a link to your HJT log in the th... I think i did something really wrong... i had a registry backup on my desktop and i wanted to move it to another area on my computer. I clicked on it and it said : are you sure you want to add the information in C:\ blah blah \ registry backup.reg to the registry? I dont know what i was thinking but i clicked on yes. And now i have several problems.... too many to mention but here's a few: anything windows site or microsoft site related cant get in....cant do any online banking or access anything goverment related... windows media player dont work...outlook express settings were changed and look of it was different...cant access certain things on my start menu or by clicking on start>all programs> and certain stuff on from there...etc. It seems like the computer might have gone back to a time when the registry backup on desktop was created....don't know. Earlier in the day i had done a disk cleanup...and disk defragmenter...i dont think that doing these 2 things had anything to do with it. So i decided to do SYSTEM RESTORE ...which i had done a few times before...but SYSTEM RESTORE doesnt work either. I click on it and all i see is a blank window with system restore on the top with a small white rectangle beside it. I tried to access SYSTEM RESTORE by using safe mode...same thing. And also my McAfee Security Center and McAfee Scan dont work either....just a blank screen when i click on it.
COULD IT BE A REGISTRY PROBLEM? OR something else... hopefully someone... Read more

Hi,
The problem started a few days ago, Sunday I believe. Anyway started up laptop and could not connect to internet. Looked up Device manager and the wireless card had a yellow triangle with a ! in it. Assumed I had done something so went to System Restore and set a point. There was a warning, however, after it finished stating the Restore did not complete and gave options to do it again.

The curious thing was I had wireless internet, despite it stating the System Restore was unsuccessful. Closed the LT and started it back up. No internet. Ran SR again and again it notified me it was not successful, but I again had wireless internet.

I ran every test possible for the network and internet. The result was "no connections available. Plug in an Ethernet cable." I have internet with cable. tried to update the card's driver and it says I have the latest driver. One of the Intel tests said something about the digital certificate.

Ran all your tests and am at your mercy looking for guidance...thanks.

A:Can't Use System Restore And Wireless Doesn't Work...

Hi there, I am not seeing malware in any of those logs. I suggest you post in the software/networking forum.
If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
Renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it in step 4 of the READ & RUN ME.
Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.
If running Vista, Win 7 or Win 8, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
Now goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click ( if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 Right Click and Run As Administrator ) on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.

Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

I'm back again with another problem

System Restore has worked fine for me (xp pro) until yesterday.
I tried to restore to the day before and it went through the motions (blue line showing restoration, etc.) but after it rebooted the restore screen came up and said it was unable to restore my computer.

So I went back 2 days and tried it - same result. Back 3 days same result.

The error msg gave no explanation other than it could not restore my computer.

I don't use restore that much but it makes me kinda nervous knowing it doesn't work.

Thanks for your help.

A:(Resolved) System Restore Doesn't Work

Well, I dunno, never happened to me. But I'd go to the System Restore settings and disable system restore. I believe that will delete the old, possibly corrupt, restore points. Reboot. Then go back into System Restore, change the Settings to enable monitoring, and create a new restore point. See if the new one works.

I noticed about a week ago that my system won't go to sleep unless I force it to sleep using the using the Function and F1 buttons on the keyboard. I also noticed about the same time that I tried to set it to use the ribbon screen saver and that doesn't work either. The screen saver looks fine in preview but it won't start up on it's own.

I tried working through the "Vista sleep problems" tutorial that was posted in a previous thread but none of that helped. I also tried doing a system restore several times and each time I get a window telling me that "system restore did not complete successfully becasue system restore couldn't access a file, probably due to anti-virus software. An unspecified error occured during system restore 0x80070005." I've tried disabling Norton Anti Virus and running system restore -- same result.

The rest of my system seems to be running fine and I really don't want to get into advanced recovery methods or doing a full restore of Windows if I don't have to. I don't know if this would matter but I did install a second internal HDD. It's not in any kind of RAID configuration or anything. I use it to capture/store video footage and I keep backup copies of several personal folders on it. I think sleep was working for a time after I installed the second drive.

Any advice to get sleep to function again? Thanks.

Thanks.

A:Won't sleep; system restore doesn't work

Try running SFC, might be a corrupt dll.
