Hello,The day before Bios 1.31 release, i started my p50 from cold state and, 5 min later, (and since)  fan started running at full speed, without any load.I tried everything i could imagine: updated Bios the next day, changing power schemes, reinstall all lenovo software (which i removed because i don't need) and execute hardware tests (all OK), ran windows last updates, check with SpeedFan - temperatures stay cold (36 degrees and below on all devices) and NO data for fan speed. Fan doesn't stop even for a minute. Last try before posting here was to reset the CMOS battery (unplug and plug) and even this didn't help.I suspect it has something to do with Nvidia rather than the cpu, as the only time fan stops for a little is when i unplug my external display (on the mini dp port) AND the power supply. But then it starts again after a while.Air getting out of the machine is cold freezing (if system is idle), and restart doesnt affect it. Actually it spins hard even in bios. If it is shut down, and power on, it doesnt spin until it gets 5 min of running.I build a system for professional audio stream, which can be tricky on win 10 (i.e. CAS latencies/nvidia drivers) and i was getting very good results until getting this issue. I turned my laptop on this morning and the fan will not stop running. It is quite loud and turns on as soon as you hit the power button and never revs down. I have tried Battery Saving and Balanced mode. I have run several diffferent diagnostics through the Lenovo app and made sure my Window was up-to-date. I also used the Lenovo app to try and blow any dust from the vents. The laptop is not over heated or working overly hard. Any ideas on how to make it stop? It has been working for the past several weeks (it was purchased at the beginning of February) without this fan noise. As it sits right now, the CPU is at 5%, Memory is at 39%, and the disk is showing to be at 0%.

I am battling this same issue.  I just maxxed out my RAM at 8GB and reinstalled windows 10 on a new solid state drive.  All was fine for about a week and then it started happening again.  Have you found any solutions?

Have taken delivery of a new desktop pc and it is ok except for the fact that the fan cranks up to (a noisy) full speed when pc switched on and carries on like this until it is turned off.
I queried this with supplier's help desk but they assured me that this is normal?
Should I just accept that it is (normal)?

Hi, i just got my Lenovo 510S-14IKB today. Everything is working fine, its super fast in comparison to my old laptop. Only problem is, that the fan seems to run all the time and is making noticable noise. the temperature of the cpu aer all in the range of 20° only the hd was at 34. so normally that are not temperatures where cooling is needed. If i let the notebook idle for 2 min it goes dead silent but starts again even if i just scroll down a homepage. And even if i start programms whicht take more resources, the fan does not get louder. Is there anyway to controll the fan? Help would be really appreciated, Thanks in advance and sorry for my bad english

Hi, I have tried everything I can think of to try and get my fan to not run nearly 100% of the time.  Drivers, BIOS, complete reinstallations of windows, compressed air, physically removing the back of the laptop and cleaning the fan by hand, about 50 different internet solutions; nothing works.  Also the temperature is fine, running around 35 degrees, so it's not that. Help would be appreciated.

Yesterday I installed RC1 of Windows 7 on my HP 6910p.

Afetr install I immediately noticed that the notebook makes much more fan noise then under Windows XP.
The fan seems to be running constantly and whenever I seem to do something a bit graphical it goes at full speed.

Are there any other (HP 6910p) users that have the same experience?
Is there something I can do / tweak to make my notebook quite again.

I have already disabled the superfetch however this only reduces the HDD activity.

A:Fan constantly running at full speed (HP6910p)

If you have a non integrated video card (No idea what the term for that is), try accessing the setup for it (Nvidia offers the "Nvidia control panel") and checking the fan settings - it may be set to max.

If this does not work, try entering your BIOS and checking the settings.

It MAY be happening because Windows 7 requires more out of your PC than XP (Which I assume you upgraded from, based on your OS information), so it's attempting to cool it down. Try running HWMonitor (CPUID) and checking the temps of your CPU / GPU / HDD.

A few days ago I installed a new XFX 7600GT XXX using the most recent driver I had downloaded from Nvidia. The card works fine, but the fan starts up at full speed as soon as the computer is turned on and doesn't stop until the computer is turned off.

I've uninstalled the driver and installed the previous version of the driver on Nvidia's website. I disabled all programs running in the background while installing the new drivers and I've read all of the driver installation tips on Nvidia's website. Everything continues to work fine (it's a great card), but the fan doesn't stop, and that ain't right.

I opened a support request ticket with XFX and am waiting to hear back (three days now . . . still waiting . . . I imagine they are hell of a busy, with all the cards they sell and all the myriad issues that come up).

Does this sound like a defective card? Defective driver? Anyone ever had this problem? I don't know anything about how the temp sensor works or where it is, but maybe it's a defective sensor that tells the fan the card is hot as soon as the computer is turned on?

My system is stable, no other problems.

Thanks,

Mike

Well, on a card like that, it's probably a good thing to have the fan run all the time. Your machine probably just runs warmer than normal. I wouldn't really worry about it. I purposely set my fan to run all the time since it's a good idea to keep any system as cool as possible.

Check the temps of the card that are reported in nVidia's control panel, and post the results here.

My laptop fan has started running high speed non-stop today. It even runs like this when the computer is supposed to be in sleep mode. Only time I could get it to go off is when it's at the beginning of a restart. Also, I cannot get it to shut down properly. I hit start and shut down and it doesn't shut down, just restarts. I ran malwarebytes earlier and it found and removed four things. Any help would be appreciated.

My g580 ran out of battery while using it, and now it gets stuck on the lenovo logo. I tried a different hard drive which changed nothing, I've tested both hard drives on a different computer and they both work. However when I boot the laptop with no harddrive it will get past the logo go to a screen saying something about an unplugged cable then reset and get stuck on a blank screen.   If I plug in my windows recovery usb drive( and no harddrive) the the machine will boot normally and go to the windows installation screen. So any ideas on why a working harddrive would stop the system from booting? Also I've tried the whole taking out the battery unplugging it holding down the power key and then plugging it back in thing, did nothing.

Help. I have a gigabyte motherboard with AMD XP 1800. I found that my cpu fan speed is going up and down periodically. I goes from 300 to 1200 rpm in a 2 sec cycle. It is a fan problem or a motherboard problem??

A:cpu fan speed changes constantly

Unless you have a fan controller on your system it may be a failing fan, irregular power supply which comes off of the MB usually.
Try a new fan .. go from there.

Hi all, I have read a lot of similar posts, and yet, my problem remains unsolved. The fan is running constantly at full speed, making a loud hissing nouse, one that it only made when using that dust removal "feature" in the Lenovo OKO app, I presume. Also, I have noted that the battery life has decreased drastically. This fan turning on problem started about a week back, and it disappeared then if I shut down the laptop or an hour or two. Now this is the first thing that I hear every morning, even with storing it in a not-warm and "turned off" state overnight. When the fan is running, the video playback is struggling , and if I play a mp3 song, and scroll using the touchpad or the touchscreen, there is a crackling sound in the speakers. (Update: Video playback also has continuous crackling noise.) This does not happen when the fan is not running (which is becoming a rarety since the last few days). Obviously, this is driving me nuts. Here's a list of things I have tried already. Updated the BIOS to the latest available update on Lenovo website.Checked CPU temperature, hard disk temperature etc. The fan is running continuously even when the CPU and hard disk both are in the 38-40 degrees range. And the CPU is rarely going above 20% usage, as per the task manager and resource monitor.Tried switching between Power Saving, Balanced, Harmony Energy Settings and Performance modes. No luck.Booted into BIOS. Stayed there for... Read more

First question... Are they high speed hubs?
I have an older 4 port Dlink here that's never run 480... looking into the chip on the internal circuit board, it turns out to be a 12mbps chip... you can slow them down, but you can't scare them into running faster.

Good Evening,  I recently purchased a Lenovo Erazer x315 for my girlfriend which worked fine for the first week. Now however the Wi-Fi keeps dropping connection, though it shows it?s still connected and she has to manually disconnect and reconnect to the Wi-Fi. It has disconnected her 4 times in the last hour as I've been trying to google solutions. She did the scan via the diagnostics page on this website and nothing failed. We thought it could be her router taking a dump, but her old laptop has been able to maintain a connection throughout her disconnects. The tower is primarily used for Teamspeak, Archeage, Minecraft, YouTube, FB, and a few artsy programs she has. Don?t know if any of that would affect it. Any help would be appreciated, being that I'm in the military, gaming is our main source of keeping in touch. The constant DC's are kind of aggravating to say the least.

Not sure what is up here but we are having considerable problems with the internet.
Sometimes it will be fine although only getting a download speed of 3mbps and upload speed of 0.8mbps.
Other times it will take an age to open a google page and then just stop working altogether.
Sometimes turning off the router and waiting a minute or so will get us back to 3mbps but it doesn't always last. Everytime we turn laptop on we have to reset the router again.  It as though there is too much going through it and it jamming up all the time. Is this possible or am I infected with something?

Hello,
We are currently using Dell Latitude 6430u which were purchased in 2013. Most of them work perfectly, however many of the laptops are starting to constantly have the fan running at high speeds constantly resulting in temperatures above 100 degrees F. The laptops are normally only utilizing 2-25% of their cpu which should not result in these constantly spinning fans that result in the keyboards getting hot. I have checked the bios on the computers as well as the drivers.

When I manually slow down the fan with direct fan control in ntune, the temperature goes to about 54 degrees celcius.

Often wondered this? Does the speed you connect at dictate the constant running speed thereafter of surfing the Internet.
I connect @ 44,000 kbytes per second, but sometimes @ 42,000. When I notice the connection @ the latter speed, I often immediately disconnect and reconnect until I see that I have connected @ 44,000kbps.

Is this a pointless action, or does it warrant a beneficial difference to my downloading speeds after ive connected?

A:56k Connection speed & running speed

I would say no, you will not notice a difference, only when downloading a huge file, where it will take 10 minutes less.

So I'd say it's pointless. On paper you're only getting .25kB more throughput, which is negligible. It's at least not worth disconnecting and reconnecting.

So I recently upgraded my Lenovo G40-45 (specs below) from 4Gb stock RAM to 8Gb. The new ram that I installed is Kingston KVR16LS11/4 in 2X4Gb configuration.  After looking around for the specification of my laptop model on the lenovo website, I read that if I use both ram slot for this laptop model, the ram speed will run at 1333Mhz, but if I use a single slot, it will run at 1600Mhz. Given that my newly installed ram have a clocked speed of 1600Mhz each stick, I thought that the laptop will auto-config the speed and run the ram at 1333Mhz, but after checking on CPU-Z and Task Manager, my ram only runs at 800Mhz.  I know that my CPU doesn't support dual channel mode, so I don't have a problem on that, my only problem is the speed that it's showing on CPU-Z and Task Manager.  I have included screenshots of my task manager side by side with CPU-Z.  ????Can someone help me on this? Thanks in advance. EDIT: I think I know now why it's 800Mhz in CPU-Z, but if you have another explanation please tell me. The only thing that bothers me now is the speed in the Task Manager, I saw some PC with 1333Mhz speed on that, so why is mine only at 800Mhz?============================================Laptop Specs:Model: Lenovo G40-45CPU: AMD A8-6410 with AMD R5 Radeon GraphicsRAM: 2X4Gb Kingston KVR16LS11/4 (@1600Mhz each stick) Link: [http://www.kingston.com/en/memory/search/?partid=kvr16ls11/4]

I have mcaffee anti virus on the computer. when I do my task manager there is dwm.exe that uses 43,560K memory , explorer.exe uses around 53,800K, and iexplore is using 43,450K , I have 58 proccesses running, CPU usage is 52% and Physical Memory is 44%, that is with me just on here typing this, with mcaffee running...is that normal? I have looked up pretty well everything in that list and it all seems normal. I have included a HiJack this log to see if there is something in it can someone please let me know. I would appreciate it.

I have a Compaq Presario PC, windows XP W/SP2 installed. Model # SR1503WM. The CPU constantly runs whether computer is being used or not. I have checked the task manager and it shows CPU as 0% and compaq connections agent as the only application running. I have 1.24GB of RAM installed. I have Norton installed and AVG and have checked for spyware and computer seems to be clean of any. The unit seems to be cool as it is not hot when felt or air from it, and also is free of dust clogging vents and inside of unit. What could be the problem. It is 2 years old this month. The noise runs me crazy after a while, thanks!

In Windows Task Manager, under the Performance Tab, my CPU is showing at 100% permanently. I've tried closing down some of the high runner processes but nothing makes any difference.

I've run several cleaners (RegCure, CCleaner etc) but again nothing makes any difference.
My PC is constantly freezing, hanging, sputtering and is becoming unusable.

I also noticed that when I manage to perform a normal shutdown, everything goes normally BUT my screen stays on, and the power button light remains on, but I can hear the drives and fan stopping. I then have to perform a manual powerdown by holding the on/off button for about 8-10 seconds.

My machine is a 3.06 GHz Pentium 4 Compaq Presario, 18 month old, O/S is Windows XP Home Edition, with SP 2.
Anyone out there have any ideas?
Thanks in advance

The fan has been a problem the past several months and has increased in the past few days. If I do anything remotely intensive, the fan starts running which really slows down the laptop to the point where I literally can't do anything. Any solutions?

Thanks

A:S41 - Fan constantly running

That is usually caused by the vents that allow air to be drawn over the CPU heat sink being clogged with dust   Once the CPU gets hot, the system will slow down, and eventually just shut down to protect itself from a meltdown.     I would try using a vacuum cleaner hose and a can of computer cleaning air to blow/suck out the dust and see if that helps.     I that still fails, you may have to remove the base cover (see page 34 of the Lenovo S41/U41 Hardware Maintenance Manual) and clean the fan manually.     In rare case the heat sinks fail, or the thermal heatsink compund beween the CPU and the heat sink cracks and fails to transfer heat to the heat sink efficiently, mut most likely you will find the system is full of dust. Lenovo used to have a fan cleaning program in the Lenovo Energy Managment software, but I think it removed it for some reason.    It is supposed to run the fan backwards and forwards at high speed to try to clean the dust, but if it is really plugged, it probably will not work. Good luck. Lenovo S41/U41 S41-35 S41-70 S41-75 U41-70 Hardware Maintenance Manualhttps://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles_pub/lenovo_s41-35_s41-70_s41-75_u41-70_hmm_201503.pdf

Hi,

I have two computers, one computer runs smoothly at a cpu level of around 10%, and has less RAM, hard drive space, and runs more cpu related tasks, it has a duel core 2.4, my other computer, however, runs at 100% all the time, no matter how many processes I kill in tskmgr.exe, it runs incredibly slow, it has a duel core 2.2.

I've ran malwarebytes, CCleaner, registry cleaner, defrag, and it still runs at 100%, it didn't used to do this, it's happened for at least two months, but it keeps getting worse.

Hi, i just got my Lenovo 501S-14IKB today.

My CPU usage is always running at 50-55%, which it wasn't doing a week ago. When I check the "Processes" tab under Task Manager, there isn't any application/browser/programs that are taking up that cpu usage. I also ran a virus check with TrendMicro and it came up with nothing. I'd like to be able to know what is running in the background and stop it. It's making work related programs and browsing more slow.

Hello,Pasting in contextual information from another topic ~ OBHere is a little history.March 30th A Windows problem first became evident as the CPU spiked to 100% and on reboot, Windows would not boot up stating it could be a hardware or software problem. At that time I thought it was the motherboard and had it swapped out because the error I had was different but the symtoms were the same prior to the system not booting.April 6th got the laptop back from HP and put in my HD to boot from. It worked for a day and then the CPU spiking issue was found, only this time with no failure to boot.Since that date I have tried to isolate the issue but to no avail. I have tried various restore dates and images, as well as manipulating the data on the master image (delete WoW before issue is active and reinstall it from scratch). None of it has worked. My latest attempt was to restore from my oldest image available [the other night]. It was left restoring and hasn't been tested yet. I am not sure if the "issue" will be visible on it. I tested one last night 3-4 weeks later (Feb 16th date) and it was but apparently never became active for close to 2 months...End of added material. ~ OBThis is in reference to http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic219056.html and http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/218815/cpu-runs-at-100-constantly/.I have attached the log files that you requested. A:CPU running at 100% constantly

Hello All,

I wanted to provide an update to this. I blew away the image last night hoping to restore from the factory settings and get it up and running. That worked for about an hour before the symptoms came back. That normally leads me to think that there is something on my home network that is passing a virus along before I can patch windows, but to add further confusion to this topic, the same situation has occurred on my work laptop. Both are HP NC6400. That is the only similarity. The work laptop is running XP and my home machine Vista. I had both machines rebuilt and the work one without ever stepping into my house exhibited the same issue on a fresh build. Is it possible that there is something resident in the BIOS of these machines, or that a Virus screwed up the CPU's?

It isnt spyware/or a virus, as I've check into that pretty thoroughly...

To me, it sounds like the CPU is constantly running and is somewhat loud during gaming...causing lag...
Anyone's help would be appreciated?

I bought the Z70 last August and gradually over time the speed had declined from 2 to 10 MBPS dependant.  I also use an old Acer Aspire 7741 Laptp and the speed-test has always remained constant at 30 to 35 MBPS as it should be.  We live in an old smallish terrace house, so distance from router to PC is no more than 20 feet. Even using upstairs is not an issue. I have to use a Netgear wireless-Dual Band dongle which does increase the speed dramatically on the Lenovo when it connects which is a bit temperamental. My ISP is TalkTalk (don't laugh)  They provided me with a HUAWEI HG533 Router (N-ADSL2+)  plus BT's Fibre Optic modem.  I'm on Windows 10 and my AV is Kaspersky (which I have been advised to remove) and just use the in-built 'Defender' which is more than adequate. I paid a lot of money for the L70 and someone suggested it could be the PC's 'wireless card' that could be the problem.  Can anyone throw some light on my dilemma please?  Thanks

I just received a new HP 22-b052 AIO yesterday and as soon as I started it up, I could hear the fan on the left side (or right side from the back) constantly running. The sound from far away is unnoticeable but when I'm in front of it, it is loud. Is this normal for HP AIO (All in One)? I called HP tech support and spent hours recovering and reinstalling BIOS, running hardware tests but to no avail.  Also, could I replace the fan? Is this PC customizable, would I be able to switch out the mobo and CPU (and of course fan)?

I am running WinXP Pro SP3 and I have had an ongoing issue with my rundll32.exe suddenly spiking to 50% and then fluctuating around there. I use all the usual suspects (Spybot, CC Cleaner, Avira Antivir, Malwarebytes) and my system is clean of viruses and malware. I have prepared a HJT log file, a task manager screenshot and a system32 screenshot. The rundll32.exe icon is not the standard white icon or icon with a symbol, but looks more like a piece of paper. Is this normal for this icon?I will provide any other information to anyone who can provide me some assistance.Thank you in advance for you time and advice.

Over the last couple of weeks I have noticed that my notebook PC (DELL Inspiron 700m) hard drive has been running more or less 100% of the time the machine has been powered on. Task Mgr/Processes indicate that "msiexec.exe" is running at 99 and CPU usage is at 98-100%.
At the same time, I have also had several incidents of "about:blank" pages in IE (6.0) opeing themselves automatically. During a 30 minute period last night a total of 8 pages opened (I had 8 IE windows opened automatically).

1) are these two issues related?

2) I have checked that "Windows Installer" in Systems is set to "Manual".

3) I also try to turn off the msiexec.exe in "Processes", but it turns it self on within seconds again.

4) I have run multiple spyware software applications trying to find and delete the cause of the "about:blank" problem, which I think is a browser hijack, but to no use. I've run Webroot's "SpySweeper", SpyCatcher and F-Secure's "BlackLight" and Trend-Micro's online "HouseCall". Each of them found malware, but didn't solve the problem.

5) I am using Microsoft OneCare with Defender as my antivirus and malware protection.

I'm at a loss and unless someone has a solution I don't see any other way but to reformat in order to solve the problem.

Please help, someone.

The resulting heat means my laptop sounds like it is trying to take off. I have tried removing .xml files from indexing as has been suggested on my multiple searches. Didn't help at all. Somehow turning off the process if possible is also not a solution in my opinion.

Looking in Event Viewer, I noticed a great many of the following 'Warnings' from the 'Search' source "The protocol host process 8472 did not respond and is being forcibly terminated {filter host process 10000}." The numbers involved change frequently.

Any ideas as to how I can fix this? It's driving me mad. I have attached a screenshot from the process tree area of Process Monitor, it is perhaps relevant.

Hello! my old computer's HD is Running constantly. i cant get it to stop work. is it a hardware problem or software? and how can i solve it? thanks for your help

A:My Harddrive is running constantly

There's quite a few things that can have that effect. Let's start simple and work up.

How old is the hard drive?

I would check the overall space of the hard drive, good practice to have at least 20% free. The HD may also be fragmented, you can check the status of both of these from the disk defragment application. If the HD space is lower then 20%, you may want to delete temporary files from Disk cleanup.

Next I would check the RAM and Virtual memory amount, it depends on what system your running, but a good baseline is anywhere from 2gb to 4gb of ram, and 1.5x your current ram amount = virtual memory. You can confirm these from the Task Manager, under the Performance tab.

If those come up clean and fine, you may want to do a quick virus scan. I personally recommend Malwarebytes, you can find the most current version from their website at Malwarebytes : Free anti-malware download

Have slight problem. Want to set upone of my own photos as desktop background.
Have a couple of my own photos saved in My Pictures, under My Documents.
Worked briefly. Now, when I boot up, my A drive runs constantly, until system comes
up completely. But, as soon as I click on anything on desk top, A drive starts running
again, apparently searching for needed background file?
How/where do I save my own photos for desktop background so that A drive isn't running all the time?

I'm running a Gateway 1GHz, 40GB HD, CDRW, Iomega Zip drive and Windows ME.
If I keep a Zip disk in, with photo I want on it, Drive A is quiet.
Problem began when I tried to change desktop background.

Appreciate any information!!

Please move to correct topic location if I posted under wrong topic!

Thanks

I just bought a new toshiba pc i got it last thursday and when im just sitting at the desktop the fan just kicks into high gear constantly running and making noise and then after a few minutes it stops but it also starts back up making the same annoying noise minutes later is the fan suppose to be working so constantly? And the cpu temperature is constantly at 30 degrees or higher is that normal? even when i turn on the pc after its been off for a few hours its still in between the same temperature range that i mentioned earlier. also for example on this pc if i have firefox open and i have photoshop open or any other programs the screen brightness changes slightly dimmer when i switch from one program to another on its own. Im not sure should i take it back im thinking about doing that i cant take the annoying fan and the automatic switching of the screen brightness upon switching application windows is a little strange.

A:my fan is constantly running and is very noisy what do i do?

A constatly running fan usually means overheating or a defective fan. You said 30C or higher. The higher is the imporant part, as 30 is not too high

Older Fujitsu Lifebook N series notebook with Vista. Recently fans (2) both seem to operate at top speed as soon as the computer boots up, even from a cold start. Tried installing speedfan but it triggered a BSOD when scanning the hardware every time I tried to use it. Then tried Core Temp, that wouldn't install either. No BSOD, said something was blocking it, but I disabled Adaware and AVG. Laptop appears to operate normally except for the fan noise. Attached the hijackthis files. TIA.

ps...should have mentioned I took it apart, cleaned the fans (not that dirty), and re-pasted the CPU and heat sink.

Hi,

I am running Vista Home Basic. I have good computer knowledge and skills although certainly not an expert. I can't understand why I am constantly getting the low C: memory warning. I store all pictures and music, etc. on a separate hard drive, and I have carefully gone over my program files and uninstalled any that didn't seem worthwhile. I have a 70 gig hard drive which seems like lots and is more than any computer I've owned before. Sometimes it seems that if I delete files, etc. to clear up memory and the next time I come back to my computer I'm out of memory again. I often get the "could not complete back up due to insufficient memory" notice. I'm unclear on what is being backed up and if this is part of the problem.

I have 3 GB of RAM and the Virtual Memory is currently set at 3242 MB

Help!

Thanks.

Hi and welcome to vista forums

WE could use some info on your computer like how much memory you have, but I think you are running low on "virtual memory". Virtual memory or page file is set in the system control panel>advanced settings. Dependant on the amount of RAM you have it should be set for between 1 and 2 times the amount of ram. If you run out of RAM more and more things are stored in the page file untill it too is out of space. thats when y ou get the low memory warning.

If you like I can walk you thru the settings and where to change them, just tell us how much ram you have.

hope this helps

I am using a HP Pavilion dv6 with an Intel i7-2630 QM, 6 GB RAM and AMD Radeon 6770M GPU (along with Intel Graphics Card). In the past few days, anytime I open a program, such as Mozilla, Chrome, Spotify, the computer's fans kick on. This has never happened in the past. Usually I have to run a video through the browser or play a game for the fans to turn on. The fan turns on when on AC power and when on battery. When this happens, the CPU usage is around 5-7% with 40-50% RAM usage (no change from the past). I am not sure why all of the sudden the laptop's fans are turning on. I have looked at the processes and do not see anything out of the norm and the average temp of the CPU's is about 51-54 C. I have not installed any new software in the past several months. Any input or ideas about why this may be happening would be greatly appreciated. I use Process Explorer and Core Temp to monitor my computer as well as Norton 360 as antivirus software. Thanks.

Hi , i recently upgraded my laptops hard drive to a Samsung 840 evo 500GB SSD. Whilst i've noticed a massive improvement in performance there is one little annoyance , the fans on my laptop are constantly going on and off is there a way to combat this and is this a common problem ?

A:installed SSD fan running constantly

Hi Bibbster,

Not a common problem no, if anything after fitting a SSD the fans should come on less as a SSD gives off no heat at all compared to a regular spinner.

Did any bios settings change when you installed it? I would have a look in the bios to see if there are any settings for fans etc.

Long story of what's happened so far:

So about a week ago I was on firefox and using google search. I scrolled through the page and my firefox window closed. internet explorer opened for a brief second, it then closed itself, then a program called XP security 2011 downloaded itself and started running a virus scan. I just assumed it was a fake (I've had this sort of thing happen on other computers in the form of Spy Sheiff and something else years before). My internet was hijacked and I couldn't open any page in any browser. So I turned the computer off, ran malwarebytes anti-malware in safemode and it found a few things. I deleted everything that came up and I turned the computer back on in normal mode and I ran into a few other problems.

While the internet now worked, whenever I tried to open (mostly) any other program, it would ask what program I wanted to open it with (the list of the default programs). After a while of searching, I came across a registry fix for it, downloaded it and it worked.

Some point after that though I just ran more scans in Malwarebytes, and whenever I boot the computer normally it runs super slow. I pin pointed this to services.exe using the task manager but from what I read it seems that it's a genuine file that has malware attached to it. It's hogging every bit of CPU that isn't being used by everything else. If I run the computer in safe mode it might run at 80-90% which is definitely better then 100, but it&... Read more

bios hp f.12 8/28/2008
smbios version 2.4

My fan has recently started running almost constantly and loud. I have gone into msconfig and gotten rid of everything that doesn't need to run. The computer will do this when stationary with fan area hanging off of table exposed. When I sleep it or shut it, the light on the exterior of the computer (that says hp) stays on and the fan runs on high. I don't believe there is dirt in there. Around the same time, I noticed number lock and the keypad on the side stopped working.

could part of this be that I have never replaced the battery?

What else could it be?

I have run every spyware program known to man (malwarebytes, superantispyware, etc)

Thanks in advance

I just purchased the Lenovo Flex 3-1480 yesterday.  So far so good in my initial observation of this 2 in 1 laptop. Except for the wifi. We have the AT&T gigapower speed with the Pace router with 2.4 & 5 ghz wifi dual modes.  I checked with AT&T and they advised that different devices can have different speeds if the hardware or drivers are old or not up-to-date.  AT&T has stated that everyone won't get 1ghz speeds (disclaimer says up to 1ghz).  So, I have another Lenovo 540w laptop that I use for work and it is getting 330 mbps download speeds for the 5ghz wireless and 500+ mbps download when connected with the ethernet cable to the router.I connected the Flex 3 directly to the router with the ethernet cable and tested at speedtest.net and received 320 mbps download speed.I went to speedtest.net and ran a test on the wireless and the best I could get is 30 mpbs download speed.  I noticed that the flex 3 would only connect to 2.4ghz.  When I tried to connect with 5ghz, I received and error that it would not connect.  So I searched on the Lenovo website for updated wifi drivers and found newer drivers.  My current driver was for Intel AC-3165 dual band wireless adapter version 18.12.1.2 date 7/29/2015.  I dowloaded and installed version 19.10.0.9 date 9/28/2016, rebooted and saw some improvement. I was finally able to connect to 5ghz mode and the latest speed test was 89 mbps download speed.    So I started... Read more

Greetings all. Ive been having an issue with my PC and im hoping for some help.

This is a computer i built, and its been marvelous. It has a Core2Quad 2.4ghz, 4gb 667mhz ram and a 500gb Hdd.

My problem has been that the hard drive wont stop read/writing. Even after its been left alone over night, and for hours on end, ill look at it and it'll still be active. Its also extremely sluggish, even after a clean install of W7, which i know is because of the hard drive.

Im wondering if i can get a second, third or fouth opinion... but im thinking that the HDD might be bad and its time for a new one. Ive tried reinstalling windows, and its still slow to load, and take for-freaking-ever to boot.

Thank you for any assistance.

Hi there!
I just reverted back to Windows 7 after Windows 10 was sneakily loaded onto my system as a "recommended update" (not cool, BTW, Microsoft). I have an older system, and I know after scanning my Dell on the Drivers site, it was not recommended to keep Windows 10.
Well, now my power fan constantly runs. I've disabled/uninstalled/removed EVERYTHING I can find that's not essential to the system. My CPU usage is a low 4% or LESS at all times, yet the fan runs like mad. It's running right now ... and I'm only using Firefox. <sigh>
Any and all advice would be helpful. Note: I'm not a HUGELY computer-literate person. I know how to disconnect the wires, open the back, blow out all the dust. That's about it. Removing components is not an option. I'm just wondering if there's any "hidden" *** that might have been tinkered with due to the (imo, ILLEGAL) installation of Windows 10 and the subsequent downgrading to Windows 7 (which was great!).
Also, I run/ran some pretty CPU-heavy programs (WoW, Guild Wars 2, Elder Scrolls), and the fan NEVER ran the way it does now. I feel like that's saying something.
Many thanks!MissSea :)

Hi,

I desparately need help. My Sony Vaio HD is constantly running, regardless of any programs being used. Internet access is slow and even opening any documents or programs is very sluggish. I've run Norton and gotten back no viruses. 50 GB of the 80GB hard drive are free. A HiJack This report is below. I hate to have to go out and buy another PC so any suggestions/help on how to resolve this would be greatly appreciated!

Does anybody have a clue as to what this could be? I've checked the task manager and everything seems fine. The disk doesn't seem to start running constantly until about 30minutes after the computer is turned on. Please help.

Hi all,

Recently my computer has slowed down dramatically and when I go to the task manager it shows my CPU running at 100% much of the time (even with no apps open). There are a ton of processes that I don't understand and I think something is wrong. I have already run AdAware, Spyware Blaster, Norton antivirus, and Spybot. I've run a Hijack This log but I need help interpreting it. Can anyone help? Thanks...

Hello,I received my new ThinkPad X1 Yoga yesterday and the fan is constantly on and the bottom of the laptop is warm.  Being a brand new laptop I am surprised at the amount of noise and can't understand why it is constantly going?   So far I am very concerned and wondering if I should return it?  Anyone else have any similiar issues and if so, any way to fix it? Thank-you in advance, Christa

A:Thinkpad X1 Yoga Fan Constantly Running

make sure Turbo is not enabled on cpu since when thats enabled it will make cpu work around 100% - 120% so then fan is constantly on even at idle so yeah if you disable turbo it should make fan more silent.

Hello,

I am now experiencing problems with my PC after 7/8 years.
Each time I switch it on the fan is running really loud; followed by two clicks and after that the power light on the monitor turns from solid green to solid amber and on the screen it comes up with no signal.
The base unit always has a solid green light.

I carried out a power supply test and the light on the back had a solid green light so that is working fine.
Checked the fans and they are working fine.

I have cleaned it thoroughly with the appropriate spray, opened it up and cleaned out the heat sink and even cleaned off the thermo paste and added a fresh batch.

Guess what!! It did not make one difference.

Is it anything to do with the video mode? Before this problem started I was checking to see if the second VGA slot was enabled and plugged it in and found that it wasn't. Each time I switched the cables I always had the machine switched off. When I plugged the VGA cable back in its original slot it was working fine. Next day after this problem cropped up.

Could it be the hard drive as it does make 2 click sounds?

Hi there.
I'd love some help from you guys into getting to the bottom of this problem.
For about the last 3-4 days my PC has been running slowly. I've been unable to do any online gaming due to this.
Explorer.exe seems to be always running at around 50% usage.
I've tried running AVG anti-virus , Malwarebytes, SpyBot and Ad-aware. The problem still persists.
I use ZoneAlarm firewall and also use Spywareblaster.

Here is my HJT log file
