touchpad and keyboard of my HP Probook 4510s not working

Q: touchpad and keyboard of my HP Probook 4510s not working

I am unable to use my laptop's touchpad and keyboard. Even my mouse is operational only when the windows is loaded. Meaning, during the booting time when i wish to change the booting option, at that time i am unable to use even my mouse. Which otherwise is the only outside device used via usb port. Earlier there was issue of BIOS application, which was corrupted, which not is visible when i just boot, meaning thereby, the button namely f1 or f8 is operation at the time of booting, but unable to do any change in the booting options which are visible when i just boot my laptop. Though with the help of USB i am able to work on my externally attached keyboard. What should be done to cure this issue this is persistently bothering me for last 15 days. I am unable to make my laptop's touchpad and keyboard operational. 1 thing more only Tab is operational and opening and closing bracket keys work that is it. And as i said now only f1 or f8 works during the booting, nothing else. Please get me out of this trouble. I've trying for many days. But unable to get rid of this issue.

Hello,
I have a HP Probook 4510s which has a good level of speed.
Using the windows 7 desktop gadget tool i found that normal the CPU is running at 1-35% depending on what i am doing, and when the laptops comes out of stand by the CPU normal is around 35% and then goes down to about 11% until i start to work on the machine when it changes to accommodate the task in hand...
However...
Over the last couple of day the CPU has been running fine until i start using the laptop after it been in stand by... At the moment when i bring the system out of stand by the CPU jumps straight to 100% and the system is no longer capable of running simple tasks, the only solution is to re-start the laptop and then the CPU returns to normal, until stand by, when the same happens again...
Why does this happen?
Why has it not happened before?
How do i fix it?
Thanks

Using xperf from the performance toolkit is probably your best bet. There's an MSDN blog post (with video tutorial) on how to do this specifically (the only problem is the command Tate runs in the cmd prompt is a little hard to read - it's "xperf -on latency -stackwalk Profile").

Hi, I have a probook 4510s and it keeps shutting down each 2-5 minutes or so. I cleaned the fan and ventilization holes and I am testing it now. CPU temperature is around 35-40 typical for the 2 cores. I updated the bios to the last version too. Howver the problem is as follows: When it shuts down, I test voltage on the charger output (which should be 20v) and it is ZERO! yes, 0 volts on charger output after it shuts down by itself! to work again, I unplug it from the AC then re-plug it... there the charger outputs 20v again (open circuit of course)... this is so weird! if it is a heating problem, why the charger behave like this? is this a charger issue? do you recommend buying a cheap charger (because there is no where I can get an original one now)? one other note: the usb near the cpu (left side) has 2 ports, the one near to me is broken from the inside and when I plug a usb device the whole laptop shuts down! but this is not the cause here as I don't use that port anymore. another note: I am using a usb keyboard and mouse becuase the original keyboard is broken. Wifi doesn't work at all too. please help! I need the laptop to be fixed ASAP...! thanks!

Hello 7tech.

Have a look at the info below.

   Information

HP Recovery Center

Be advised: that this will take the machine back to the point when you first took it of the box.

The "HP Recovery Center" will give you the option to send to backup anything you
don't want to lose, so have backup media available to use if you choose this option.

With the machine off press the power button, as soon as you do that start tapping the F11 key.
It may take several attempts to do this, if the first attempt fails, try again.

That should take you to the HP Recovery Center. When there just follow the prompts.

It is pretty much self explanatory. From the time you boot into F11 (not counting
any backups you choose to make) you should be back on a working desktop in about
30 minutes. After it restarts just follow the prompts again to finish the process.

If your first option is system restore select no, which should take you to system recovery.
You want to try system recovery not system restore, unless you have good restore points!

I have two HP ProBook 4510s laptops which both had the same issue of not booting up.  One of them has started working, but on the other the issue remains.  Upon pressing the power on button, the wireless indicator light on the front of the laptop continuously changes between orange and blue.  I can hear the fan running, but there is no output on the screen. I've tried the usual steps of removing the AC power and battery and holding down the power button, but to no avail. Has anyone else had the same or similar issue? Thanks

Hello,I am having an issue with my Probook 450 g3 running windows 10 pro x64 anniversary update v1607.Most of the time, the audio doesn't work. When its not working, it says that there is no playback device found in control panel --> sounds.I have updated the machine with the latest drivers and bios and it still does not work. However, if I uninstall the synaptics touchpad drivers and reboot, the speakers work fine. Unfortuantely, windows will automatically install a driver for the touchpad and it wants me to restart. The next time I restart, the speakers break again. I have disabled the setting to automatically install drivers in advanced system settings, and it still installs the drivers. Some info:Conexant ISST audio driver version: 9.0.72.50Synaptics ps/2 port touchpad driver version: 19.0.19.48Bios version: 1.14 Please let me know if you need any other details. Thanks, bench

So, randomly one day, I turned on my laptop and couldn't log in, because a lot of my keys weren't working. The keys are:  4, 7, =, q, w, e, r, u, i, o, p, [, a, s, d, k, l, ;, and some other keys like delete.  I've tried setting bios settings to default, tried updating bios to the latest. Tried the "removing the battery" trick, tried removing hp support assistance, tried uninstalling keyboards (including hidden) via device manager, and tried installing pretty much every driver on the HP website.  USB keyboard works, but it's not an ideal fix. Would really appreciate any help that can be offered please.  Thank you!

2. Press the power button for about 15 seconds.

4. Boot the laptop and press F2 at the splashscreen to go into setup.

Since I did this my touchpad and keyboard no longer seems to work! keyboard works fine when i select f8 on startup as i can flick through the options however when i boot into safe mode the touchpad and keyboard still don't work.

I don't know what to do as I can't do anything without the keyboard or touchpad!

I seem to have a strange issue where my keboard will not work at all when I don't have the power cable plugged in.  The minute I unplug the power the touchpad and keys will not work.  I have tried to dock and undock, shutdown and restart while docked, shutdown and restart with out dock and then inserting into dock. when its unplugged the f12 lights be blinking. have updated all drivers - no go. also no customer support here in kuwai where i am right now. at least microsoft has a chat support which sorry to say a big company like hp does not have. first you spend huge amount of money to buy their hardware and then more money on support which is appalling for something which is not your fault.

Hi everyone, and Happy Holidays,

I just installed windows 7 ultimate on my daughters, acer aspire 3050 laptop. It was running vista home basic before. The vista install was damaged by viruses, so I decided to upgrade her to 7. All the hardware was recognized, but for some reason the keyboard does not work, it was working fine with the virus riddled vista install. For some strange reason the windows key does bring up the start menu, but none of the other keys seem to do anything. They all work in the BIOS just fine. Also the touch pad does work, but the cursor movement is very jerky, and it was also fine in vista. I went to acer's site, they don't have any windows 7 drivers available for this model, or any vista drivers for the keyboard, I installed the vista touch pad drivers, but they did not seem to help. I also messed with the keyboard settings in control panel, but nothing seems to help. Does anyone have any ideas, on what I need to do to fix this. I have been really pleased with 7 on my other computers, and would hate to have to go back to vista. Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated, Thank you in advance,

Steve

A:keyboard and touchpad not working

The reason it won't work is because there is no Windows 7 support for your acer aspire 3050 laptop. You can see this at the Acer website, choose Notebook, Aspire then Aspire 3050 which will show you a page for your laptop. You can see there is no Windows 7 support as yet. Acer Support - Drivers & Download

Looks like you already found this out.

Let me look around and see if anyone has found a driver that will work. Nothing found that is made for your exact model so far.

Your model isn't on the list of supported laptops but that doesn't mean that a touchpad driver from another notebook won't work on your model. I would pick a model on the Windows 7 supported list, then find the touchpad and keyboard driver for that model and try it out.

Compaq V6000 Vista Home, (32 bit) service pack 2. Computer about four years old. Motherboard replaced about four months ago because of graphic chips issue.

After a period of time / 30 min or so(?) (varies) the touchpad stops working. The blue power light continues to stay on, indicating the pad is still ?turned on? but the pad and buttons don't function. When the touchpad goes into this state, the icon on the bottom toolbar disappears. I also loose all sound, although the speaker icon remains.

When in this state the touchpad blue power light stays on and pushing the touchpad power button has no affect. (it should turn it off and illuminate an orange light)

The touch pad will also go into this state if the computer goes into the hibernate or sleep mode. One interesting thing, when in sleep or hibernate mode, you can awaken the computer by touching the touchpad surface, indicating to me that the pad is working until the computer comes ?awake.? After it wakes up, the blue blight is still on but the touchpad is inoperable.

If the touchpad is working, you can enter the sleep mode, return and the touchpad will continue to function normally.

To restore the touchpad and sound, the computer must be restarted. After that, everything works fine for a while. (time varies)

I can plug in a USB mouse to get around this issue.

I have done extensive research on Google. This issue has been happening at least since 2009. (although I didn't run across the sound issue mentioned) ... Read more

Hi everyone! I have a Toshiba Satellite M305 that I upgraded from Vista to 7. I performed the Upgrade but had issues immediately (black screen, constant freezing)... so I backed up everything and did a clean Windows 7 install.

Now I have a fresh install. Worked fine, downloaded updates, and now the keyboard any touchpad will not work. USB keyboard & mice work fine though.

Under device manager, it shows the keyboard as PS2, but no errors. For the touchpad it says "PS2 Mouse" (but it's a touchpad), and error code 10.

I noticed that if I uninstall the "mouse" and reboot, the touchpad will work until next reboot.

Next, I downloaded new Synaptic drivers and even tried the Toshiba driver pack. Didn't work... the uninstall trick doesn't work now either.

I'm not sure what's going on. Any ideas? I am leaning on a bad update from Windows update. I have searched Google and found numerous similar problems but cannot seem to get this resolved.

Thanks for any help! I can provide any more info that may be needed.
Corey

A:Windows 7 Touchpad & Keyboard not working

Since the install is probably still pretty clean, maybe you could try reinstalling again (I know, I know...) and installing your mouse drivers right off the bat from the Toshiba Website. Of course, be sure it's the right version of the driver, you know x86/x64, and for Vista/7.

This is my best guess, but if you have more pertinent info, maybe we can work something out.

Hi @NoGameNoLife , Thank you for your inquiry, I am happy to help! I grasp that you are having a difficulty with the keyboard and Touchpad but your mouse is still working.  When you checked the mouse setting the Synaptics tab was missing.  You downloaded the Synaptic Touchpad driver and installed but it again disappeared and the keyboard and Touchpad stop working,  You deleted the driver this time and rebooted your notebook. You again installed the driver and it prompted  you to reboot which you did, but again the driver is not installed.  The keyboard now works but after some time it quits responding. Have you scanned for viruses and malware? Would you try this step:Go to the command prompt and right click to run as administratorType sfc /scannow and press enterWait for it to complete and then restart your computer. This will scan for corrupted files and try to repair them. Here are links to assist you with some troubleshooting steps.Notebook Keyboard Troubleshooting (Windows 8)Using and Troubleshooting the TouchPad or ClickPad (Windows 8) If this has not resolved the issue, I would try a Refresh Your PC to Resolve Problems (Windows 8).   If you connect an external keyboard do you have the same issue, does it quit responding after awhile?  If you are still having a difficulty, I would do a full recovery back to factory. Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows 8) During the recove... It responds to Open Explorer, switch apps, brightness and wireless switch... but nothing else. I have tried a system restore to a previous point - which works until a restart, then it's the same thing. Running out of restore points. I am getting a bit frustrated with this - are there any solutions to this problem? Whenever I flip the screen back to use the P40 as a tablet and then when I flip it back to laptop mode, sometimes the keyboard and mouse will not respond. It's as if the computer doesn't notice that the screen is in laptop mode and does not reactivate the keyboad and touchpad. I have to reset the laptop multiple times or close the lid and open it up again several times to get them to work again. Whenever I restart the computer the keyboard lights will turn on during startup but turn back off whenever I get to the sign in screen. I have found no pattern that consistently works to reactivate the keyboard/touchpad. I am also having an issue that when the computer is in tablet mode, it will not re-orient the screen when I change positions (like from landscape to portrait orientation). I think these issues might be something related to the sensors on  the computer not working properly... Anyone else having this problem? Any known solutions? Thanks for any help. Walter

This problem is with my husband's IBM ThinkPad T43. This was a work computer but the company closed down & let him keep his computer (minus all the software disks). This problem I'm experiencing happened because of my stupidity. I was cleaning up the programs loading in the Startup Menu and unchecked several that appeared to be unneeded items. I also removed a file (which is now in the Recycle Bin because our new Kaspersky security program listed it as a keylogger. Now when I reboot, the keyboard & touchpad or mouse won't work when I reach the Control Alt Delete area to move forward into Windows. If I could get in, and use the keyboard, I would just put everything back the way it was, but I've spent days looking on the internet for a way to fix this and have been totally unsuccessful in finding anything that addresses my specific problem.

Please help!

Hello Guys,

this is a very strange problem im experiencing on a Acer Aspire 3000

i reinstalled xp home from scratch, and the touchpad is not working, nor the keyboard, you can get some movement if you press the keyboard and the touchpad. very little though, and keys are not typing at all. but USB mouse & keyboard is fine.

This problem existed before, and this is why i ran a full reinstallation. The other thing is when i right click on my computer and go to preperties, nothing happens. so i cant even see device manager, i cant launch device manager from system in control panel either...and start+R then mmc devmgmt.msc doesnt work either...
im getting an error about the files being missing.

I have reinstalled twice with two different xp home disks, one full and the other a Dell disk

yet...when im in a cloning software interface...or linux ...the touchpad and keyboard work fine.

i tested my hard drive which passed
and i also switched the memory with known working good RAM...same problem

and on top of it...most times you cant shut the laptop down by holding in the power button...you have to pull out the battery.

i have also installed the drivers for the touchpad from acers web site...which didnt do any justice.

im starting to think the motherboard is faulty...just wanted to get some input before i blast it with a shotgun, and post the video on you tube!!!

A:Keyboard touchpad not working in XP Home

i also loaded the bios default setings, it didnt help...also installed win 7 which crashes on startup

hey all, I have a problem with my lenovo U31-70 with windows 10. After the most recent windows 10 update, i am having the issues that the laptop takes a very long time to start up (~10 min) and that when it finally starts up, it gives two error messages about alps.exe. The touchpad and Keyboard do not work when it has finally started up. This problem was also described in https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-U-and-S-Series-Notebooks/Keyboard-issues-U31-70/m-p/2232732#M432.... However, the solution described there does not work for me, as when doing the BIOS update I receive the error that the veriosn fo the ROM file is the same as in the BIOS. I also tried reinstalling Windows 10 and reinstalling the touchpad/keyboard driver through the official Lenovo website. (I have had this problem several times before, however it went away every time by updating the BIOS through the Lenovo website. This time, this solution does not work.) Any thoughts as to how to fix this problem?

I installed a USB Motorola Modem so that I can use my Nextel to connect to the internet. Everything was fine, until I rebooted. Once I reboot the touchpad and keyboard didn't work. This was even in safemode and at the login screen. I then plugged in a USB mouse and keyboard and uninstalled the Modem. Still no workie. When I go into Device Manger have lots of errors. When I go into update the drivers it states its the best driver but (code 37). Also the the keyboard and touchpad isn't listed in device manager either. I even went back and attempted to restore and rollback before I installed the USB modem and it always fails. Even going 5 days back. After doing some searching someone stated it was related to the regestry. Sadly I would just wipe it out and start over but its a computer from Fry's and no Vista disk came with it.

Thanks in advance for any help given.

KEYBOARD QUIT WORKING not immediately after win 10 upgrade from 8, but after some time. This is a relatively recent problem. I went and bought a replacement keyboard thinking mine haid broken somehow. The brand new replacement part does not function either. I am speculating that an automatic update may have caused this problem. The computer may have went into hibernation before but has been rebooted since. I do not know if the hibernation causes a permanent keyboard problem I just heard it may cause one. I attempted hard reset to no avail The TOUCHPAD STILL WORKS. G6 model g6-1d67cl / PN: A6Y42UA I am now forced to use a wireless external keyboard but would prefer a solution to the problem other than the on screen keyboard.

Hi, I've got a friend's Packard Bell EasyNote Model MV35-V-007 laptop and I just want to copy her files before doing a clean XP install. The problem is NEITHER KEYBOARD NOR TOUCHPAD WORKS, so I cannot do anything with the computer!

I've tried plugging an USB keyboard/mouse, didn't work. I've tried using Windows XP install cd-rom, but after "checking for boot files on cd-rom drive" I'm prompted to "press any key to boot from cd" - I CAN'T!!!

Pls help!!! It's driving me mad!

Hi,
Welcome to the forums, go to control panel, uninstall "Launch Manager" in Programs, download from here and re-install it:
Download Drivers and Manuals | Acer Official Site
Try different drivers for synaptics, for example, Acer Aspire E1-572 Synaptics Touchpad Driver 17.0.6.13 for Windows 8.1 64-bit Drivers download - Synaptics Software Update
EDIT:
If you find ETD Ware in Programs, right click and uninstall it, that's your Elantech but I couldn't see it in your Device manager.

Hello all, I have a problem with my laptop. As you can see in the title, the keyboard and touch pad do not work in safe mode. However, they both work when I start up my laptop normally. I just want to get into safe mode to scan and fix errors.
It has been like that for a while now, I have been researching about it, but I can't find anything that might help my situation.
USB keyboard and mouse help, but I don't want to plug them in every time I want to go on safe mode. I don't know how to fix it.
I must warn you, that I know nothing about computers. I am running Windows Vista, if that helps. I don't know what to put up exactly. . So if you could help me, tell me what to put up, if you want more details about my system, It would help if you could tell me where I could find more specific details about my computer. Forgive me, If I sound stupid, lol.
Thanks for reading.

Trying to fix a HP Pavillion dv9000 for a friend. After a windows update the keyboard/touchpad won't work at the login screen.
Safe mode does not work either. The keyboard does work in the Bios and if I boot a live CD they both work as well. A USB mouse/keyboard

Much appreciated.

Do the other USB devices work?

Ensure that all the drivers are the latest version, especially for the chipset (motherboard) driver and the update for BIOS.

In addition, if any USB hub is used, please bypass it and connect the driver directly. If any un-used USB device is connected, please also unplug it.

You may also reinstall USB controllers as below:

Hi

My netbook is a Samsung n145plus and has 8.1 installed with all updates. (even if it's not officially supported but it works amazingly fine)

I've installed the officia Samsung Elan touchpad driver as it seemed to work fine (it's for Win 7) except when scrolling with the edge of the pad because a Elan window appears on the taskbar and was annoying so I installed a newer driver but for a gateway laptop it installed fine but it wasn't detected by Elan in control panel so I removed it.

Now both the keyboard and touchpad stopped working and Windows says code 19 for keyboard and code 10 for touchpad. A USB mouse works fine. I've reinstalled both with Device Manager without success. Now the netbook is almost useless
Thanks

i have read about similar problems on here but none of the solutions worked for me. the keyboard seems to work just fine until the "starting windows" screen appears then absolutely nothing. i've tried reinstalling the alps pointing device drivers, i uninstalled then installed the newer version, nothing seems to work. the computer was working just fine until i came home from work and turned it on. this same problem happend about 2 months ago and it magically fixed it self, i just never turned the computer off again. i have 2 identical sony vaio VPC-EB33FM/BJ models, and have compared all the drivers and settings, they are the exact same (except the newer version of Alps on the broken one). i ran one of those "scan for new drivers" programs that ask for money to update drivers that it says are old and it said that the HID keyboard device driver is way out of date along with several others, but once again they are the same as the ones on the computer i am using now and this one works like a champ. anyone have any ideas? would be truely grateful for all input, thank you.

I have a just over one year old (~14 months) Dell Inspiron 17 laptop with Win 8.1 (no touch) and of course it's out of warranty. The mouse simply stopped working, no cursor. I was able to use the touchpad but then that quit too in quick order.
I spent hours searching here and the interweb looking for possible fixes, so far no luck.
The worst of the issue is now I can't get past the splash screen to the login screen to access the repair/restore functions in Windows.
How do I access these when I can't even login to the computer?

This has happened a lot since my upgrade to Windows 10, and it's really starting to get on my nerves. Seemingly randomly, my keyboard will stop responding to what I type, and my touchpad completely stops as well (no, I did not accidentally click to disable it). These problems will never resolve themselves on their own, but as soon as I reset the computer everything works again - to me, that sounded like a driver crash, but nope! I checked the driver menu and it told me everything was running just fine. What's even more strange is that I have the backlight keyboard enabled so that when I type, it lights up. And strangely, the keys still light up when I press them, so I know it's registering my typing SOME how.

You would also think that this would be a software problem since it fixes immediately upon reset, but I've noticed that this issue seems to crop up a lot right after I have moved my computer... I'm lost and I've scoured the internet for clues, but no one else seems to have this problem. Please help!

In order to possibly do testing on what is causing this (via suggestions hopefully, I've tried everything I can think of) I am purposely not resetting my computer (thankfully this is a touch screen, but this on-screen keyboard typing is obnoxious). Currently, both keyboard and touchpad don't work, but a usb mouse I use does (the computer is also set so that using the usb mouse does not disable the touchpad).

A couple weeks ago while using my laptop, the keyboard and mouse pad suddenly froze up/lost power. No response to usb ports or cd drive. The screen stayed on, fan, power, even wifi connection stayed on, but couldn't get anything moving. The power button didn't respond so I had to unplug power and remove battery to shut it down. Worked fine after I restarted it.

Now, the same thing just happened again, on a DIFFERENT laptop with a different OS, browser, everything.

WTH?

Thanks

Hey there,

A friend was recently the victim of one of the 'Windows Service' scams and gave me his laptop to check they hadn't installed any malware on it. Thankfully they hadn't, but in the process of looking over his computer, I discovered he hadn't installed any Windows updates in the last 3 years. I've since installed all of these (about 200 files and two service packs) but now I have a slight issue in that neither the keyboard nor the trackpad works (at all). They were both working fine before the update, but now the computer doesn't even register them as input.

I've been trying to figure out why they're not working. I've plugged in a wireless keyboard/mouse combo and that works fine. For now, I'm remote desktop controlling the laptop via my iPad so that my own PC is free to use. I think it's a driver problem, but I just can't seem to figure out how to get it to work.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Will post TSG Sysinfo in next post:

Hello I bought a Lenovo E51-80 for my mother in law a few weeks ago.  I updated the Drivers and Windows, removed some of the Levono software, installed various software and then following the install iTunes and iCloud, then restarted, and the Keyboard and Touchpad stopped responding, apart from the Brightness Hotkeys and another Hotkey. When I put the PC into Safe Mode, the keyboard worked fine, but when I booted into Windows again it didn't.  I also tried Bios, but there wasn't any options relating the Keyboard and Touchpad.  I then did a System Restore to a point before I installed iTunes and this got it working again. It has since happened again a number of times, and I though it might have been a Windows Patch or something I installed, but I'm not so sure now and it seems to happen following a restart, and more frequently following a install and restart. I have also reinstalling the Driver for the Lenovo pointing device, but this didn't work, and each time, the system restore gets the Keyboard and Touchpad working again. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi um... My notebook HP pavillion was working fine this morning, but when I came home two hours later my computer stopped functioning correctly. Before I left, I downloaded a program called Digsby that I had never used before and then left. When I came back my computer wouldn't stop "ding"ing and was spewing random letters and numbers. Alarmed, I forced shut off my computer. At the part where the computer asked me if I wanted to go into safe mode or start up correctly, I couldn't move anything, go up, or even press enter, so I had to wait before it loaded. After it'd load up, my touchpad wouldn't respond and I had to use an external mouse. Then I discovered that when typing, I also could not use the key Caps Lock, or else my whole keyboard freezes up. At that time, any keys would not function, including strangly the sound system in the computer. I've tried to use system restore to go back to an earlier time but that didn't help with anything at all. I ran Webroot Antivirus Spysweeper to no avial. Not until after I went back to the earliest time that I could and ran Webroot again did it find anything. But even after the virus got caught nothing still worked.

I discovered my laptop was infected with a Trojan Zefarch and took a couple steps in an attempt to remove it. I ran scans with Symantec, Spybot S&D, and Malwarebytes, ran RegistryCleaner, and deleted a couple suspicious-looking folders in my AppData folder. After doing all this and at least one restart, I discovered that the touchpad and built-in keyboard on my laptop were not working. HI,
I have just upgraded from windows 7 to windows 10. everything seems to be fine till now apart from the touchpad.
The problem is that every time I press a button on the keyboard the touchpad stops working for about 4 seconds.
another things is that most buttons do that, but for example the ctrl, function, alt and windows keys don't cause this problem.

Any Idea what can cause this? and do you know any solutions please??
I tried updating the drivers for both keyboard and touchpad, but that didn't solve the problem.
It's very frustrating and I'm considering to goback to windows 7!

Many Thanks :)

I was playing a video game on my laptop around 4:30, when the keyboard suddenly stopped working. The mouse still functioned, so I tried clicking around to see if it was just a problem with the game. Then at 4:32, the mouse stopped working, too. I decided to try turning it off, but neither holding nor pressing the power button worked, so I unplugged the laptop from the charger and left it to run out of power on it's own. At 4:35, the display froze. I know this, because up until then the clock was still working. Currently, the vent fan is still running, and the screen is frozen. No keyboard buttons work, and neither the built-in trackpad nor an HDMI mouse is working.  Is there anything I can do to fix this, or do I need to send it in?The laptop was a brand new Dell Inspiron 15 7000 Series, with Nvidia GeForce GTX and an Intel Core i7.

This usually happens when it's locked, then after unlocking it starts to work properly. Which is worse is that the "left" and "right" buttons often switch unexpectedly, i. e. the "left" button is suddenly working as a "right" button and vice versa. I bought my notebook three weeks ago so it's basically brand new and I wasn't really expecting to have trouble with it so early. I would appreciate any kind of help, thank you.

I have simillar problem. My touchpad sometimes freezes and does not respond at all and from time to time works ony horizontal. It might be software problem (driver) because when i restart my computer touchpad works properly. Problems occured just about 3 months ago. I'm also waiting for some feedback. Thanks.

A:the touchpad of probook 4540s i5 freezes after sometime

Hello zamsam,

I understand that your touchpad will freeze.

Do a hard reset.
Turn the computer off.
Remove the power cable and the battery.
Hold down the power button for 15 sec while booth power sources are removed.

This should reset the hardware in the computer.

As you power it back on tap the F2 key. This will load hardware diagnostics.
Run the startup test.

This will test all the hardware in the system and detect any problems.

If the entire test passes, turn off the computer.
As you turn it back on tap the F10 key. This will load BIOS setup utility.
Press F9 to load defaults.
Press F10 to save and exit.

When the computer boots back up, check to see if everything is working.

I have an HP Probook 6550b, i5 processor, 8 gigs ram, running win7 64b. A couple mornings ago, while using the computer, the touchpad and mouse keys (two pair, one below the keyboard and one below the touchpad) stopped working. Checked the settings in Control Panel, TP is activated. I reinstalled a fresh driver from HP with no luck. BIOS is reporting "No mouse found" on boot. The mouse still moves with the controller nipple in the middle of the keyboard. USB mouse works fine. Last night, all of a sudden, the touchpad and buttons started working again. I understand on some laptops the TP can be disabled by function keystroke or tapping the upper left corner of the pad but that is not an option on this model, at least as far as the user manual states. Ny question: is turning off the touchpad something I did and, if it happens again, how do I turn it back on?

How do I disable the touchpad on my ProBook 6460b? I do a lot of wordprocessing, and having the cursor relocate whever I accidentally brush the touchpad is near crippling. I've googled, and checked through the forums here and elsewhere, and none of the recommendations I've found seem to apply. -there is no little white spot/button at the upper left corner to double tap. -When I go to Control Panel>Mouse, the touchpad is listed as "PS-2 compatible mouse" and there is no option I can find to disable it. Under Device Manager, I have the option to Uninstall the driver, but not to disable it. Also, somebody tell the HP hardware designers that having an easily identifiable switch, a hardware one preferably, to disable the touchpad is a HUUUUUUUGE plus. The lack of such presents a clear danger of making me never buy HP again.

Hello Everyone,

My problem started after updating windows 8.1 to windows 10, of course!
First the touchpad just stopped working, for no reason.

My solution was to uninstall the drive and restart the laptop. And from time to time I had to do this proceed. Two weeks ago windows updated, and the touchpad issue's gone. . Unfortunately, another one appeared.

The feature "mousekey", which is turn it on at ease access to use the numeric keys to use them as a mouse, It's turning itself on. And doesn't matter how many times I turn it off, few seconds and it's on again.

I've tried uninstalling the drive, which after windows the last updating was "ELAN".

Then I replaced by the Toshiba drivers, which is "Synaptic", and uninstalled the drives ,the problem is the same. Because of that, I can't use my numeric key, which is annoying!! If anyone can come up with something I will be grateful.

Hi,

I have a CZ-17 laptop (from iBuyPower, subbrand of MSI I hear) running Windows 7 64x SP1.

The keyboard and touchpad both stopped working after I cleaned my registry with CCleaner and defragmented the OS partition of the HDD with Defraggler. (The defragmentation process has not been interrupted.)

The ELanTech Touchpad

The touchpad icons have not been loading in the task bar tray at startup. Neither could I manually start the applications associated with the touchpad from my Program Files on Drive C.

Here is what I have tried without results:

1. Switch on the touchpad with the designated laptop function key combination (Fn + F3)
2. Restore the system to an earlier point.
3. Uninstall the device from device manager, restart and let Win7 install the right drivers and what not.
4. Install various drivers, including manufacturer recommended.

As of now the touchpad is hidden in the device manager and is marked with an exclamation sign. Under properties I see : This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed. (Code 24).

I am using a USB mouse as I write this.

The Laptop Keyboard:

The keyboard stopped working at the same time as the touchpad (after registry cleaning and defragmentation).
Most of the time I was able to use a USB Keyboard to be able to try to fix the problem. A few times, however even the USB keyboard would not work. I noticed that w... Read more

I would recommend performing a repair installation of the operating system, since you used the registry cleaning portion of CCleaner. In addition to Broni's link Bleeping Computer DOES NOT recommend the use of registry cleaners/optimizers for several reasons:Registry cleaners are extremely powerful applications that can damage the registry by using aggressive cleaning routines and cause your computer to become unbootable. The Windows registry is a central repository (database) for storing configuration data, user settings and machine-dependent settings, and options for the operating system. It contains information and settings for all hardware, software, users, and preferences. Whenever a user makes changes to settings, file associations, system policies, or installed software, the changes are reflected and stored in this repository. The registry is a crucial component because it is where Windows "remembers" all this information, how it works together, how Windows boots the system and what files it uses when it does. The registry is also a vulnerable subsystem, in that relatively small changes done incorrectly can render the system inoperable. For a more detailed explanation, read Understanding The Registry. Not all registry cleaners are created equal. There are a number of them available but they do not all work entirely the same way. Each vendor uses different criteria as to what constitutes a "bad entry". One cleaner may find entries on your system that will not cause problem... Read more

The original keyboard on this laptop literally wore out from heavy use and was replaced with HP OEM parts about a year ago.  It has been working fine ever since. Last night I was working in MS Word 2000, printed a draft of the document, and put the computer to sleep. The following programs were running: WORD, MuseScore, Character Map, IE11, Library, Virtual XP, Outlook Express. This morning upon waking up the computer, a number of keys on the keyboard would not work in any application: Backspace, g, h, left and down arrows, end, page down. I rebooted the entire computer (including the virtual machine) and got the same problem. I started IE and ran a G-search for keyboard problems on HP probooks and got to this site. In the process of registering I noticed that the non-functioning keys had suddenly come back to life. Can anyone explain what happened?

So you have to look at the Service manual to verify if yours has this option or not.

Quite simply, my question is this: Which ProBooks on the UK market, if any, have a backlit keyboard? There is seemingly no clarity on this, certainly not in the ProBook specificiation details, it is incredibly frustrating. I believe for the ProBook 455 G3 a backlit keyboard is optional? Does this mean a ProBook laptop can be ordered with a backlit keyboard directly from HP? Which laptops, if any, in the ProBook 450 series have a backlit keyboard? I will not make a purchase until i have clarity on this matter.

Hello!I've just bought used (but mostly disassembled) 6470B. It's in very good shape (after cleaning... yuck!) and I see it becoming my main machine. However it's lacking essential components. I want to be it as modern as possible, since it's going to be in use as long as possible. Problem is HP documentation is wildly confusing and often contradicting itself. Will it work with: - Core i7-3632QM 35W Quad core CPU? I've found it's officially compatible with I7-3820QM (which is surprisingly 45W part, but extremely hard to come by in my area). I'd really love quad core CPU, it speeds up my work so much. - HP LT2523 LTE mPCIe modem (it's listed as a spare part for this laptop, despite only hs2350 and un2430 being listed on modem support)? - Intel 7260-AC WiFi/BT card? Previous model I had had WIFI whitelisting, this model probably doesn't, but I'd like to check. - Keyboard with a trackpoint? This requires some explaining: Originally it came with really badly dirty keyboard (not spilled, just unsavagably greased, like doritos mixed with butter massaged into it), and it lacked the trackpoint. Only spares I can find cheaply come with it - will it work (does it have the connector), or if not, will the keyboard still work? - FHD or HD+ IPS display, if there are compatible spares (with correct cable, of course)? I understand that half of it isn't officially  supported, but I'll take the risk, as long as it works. Thanks in advance!

Here is the Service Manual: Manual There are two Intel motherboards. One with the QM77 chipset and one with the HM76 chipset. The top listed processor is the i7-3540M. It is listed as a Quad Core but I think in reality it has 2 cores. The smart answer is that you cannot use the i7-3632QM but it may work, particularly if you have the model with the QM77 chipset.  The WWAN modem you ask about is listed in the parts list so will work.  You can only use the WLAN cards listed on p. 38 and it has to be one with an HP Part number.  There are keyboard options with and without the trackpoint so the motherboard is made to accept either one. See the picture on p. 92. There should be a zif connector for the pointer stick right next to the bigger zif for the main keyboard cable.  Looks like the best screen is a 1600 x 900 (HD+).  14.0-in, LED, FLT, HD+, AntiGlare display panel 686047-001 http://www.ebay.com/itm/14-0-1600x900-LED-Screen-for-HP-ELITEBOOK-FOLIO-9470M-LCD-LAPTOP-686047-001-... It's a 40-pin LED screen and likely a FHD version in the same form factor, even an IPS, would work but never sure.  Post back if you have any more questions.  If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.
