Bios restart password"admin" doesn't work...?

Q: Bios restart password"admin" doesn't work...?

Says " an operating system wasn't found. Try disconnecting any drives that don't contain an operating system. Press Ctrl + alt + delete to restart" black screen. "Admin" password does nothing.

My system died last Saturday. It simply stopped recognizing the boot drive. I finally removed that hard drive and attempted to load XP to the 2nd drive - a SATA drive that was used primarily as my "My Documents" data drive. It gave me nothing but problems to get the install to go in. Finally, this morning (after running SpinRite all night) it installed! (I don't understand how SpinRite helped - but that's another issue . . .)

BUT - when it reboots, it is asking for the Administrator login in password. Nothing I enter is accepted. Is there anyway to reset to Admin password to the Win XP default?

Thanks!

A:Admin password doesn't work . . .

if the problem just about reseting Admin password...then you can do this by ERD Commander tool

burn it to CD that boot from.....log in the windows you used(it won't ask you for pass) then choose lock smith ...reset password....restart PC ....enjoy your account

Hello, as the title suggests, my problem is this:

a few moments ago i was browsing on my computer and everyhting was normal, then all of a sudden, my keyboard started acting weird, caps lock reversed, when i clicked enter on facebook it wuold just skip a line instead of sending my messages, I thought it was something minor so I rebooted instantly. As soon as I booted and saw my motherboards logo, the screen stayed there far longer than it should, like a solid 10-12 seconds instead of 2-3, then I typed in my password but it said it was incorrect. I made sure to try other languages even on screen keyboard, but nothing.

I rebooted again, only to realise my PC would not boot at all, no motherboard logo, no bios, anything, just a black screen, my USB devices are not responding either.

I download stuff all the time, and sometimes I disable my antivirus, could it be something like that? and if so whats the solution?

A few days ago I wanted to access my BIOS for something different, but could not do so, after the motherboard logo, i would press f12 or f9, or del etc and nothing would happen, or a black screen.

in case it helps my motherboard is GA-XA-UD3, I'm using an AMD FX 6300 with an FX 8350 stock cooler, 8 gigs of corsair vengeance ram, my psu is corsair GS 700watt, and my GPU is sapphire radeon 265 2gb.

Any ideas?

A:Wrong Password, then bios doesn't work

We cannot help with password problems as per the rules. It does seem that you may have some other problem as well. I would try the following;
1 System OFF, pull the pw connectors from ALL drives; both hd and optical.
2 Remove any add-in cards such as nic, sound, etc. Leave your video card installed however do make sure it is fully seated.
3 Clear cmos with the clear jumper. Note gigabyte does not use a jumper pe se. Gigabyte boards just have two pins that you momentarily short to clear cmos. If in doubt, read your mb manual.
4 Now pw ON and see if the board will complete POST ie you get a display and receive a msg regarding no operating system found. If the board does complete POST, shutdown and start connecting devices one at a time until you find the failed part. If it does not complete POST in the above config, then you need to start swapping parts with known good units; ie mb, ram, pw supply, etc.

I download stuff all the time, and sometimes I disable my antivirusClick to expand...

I would REALLY stop doing the above. You are just asking for a problem. If you must download stuff, use a linux machine. Linux is much less susceptible to a virus.

Ok, so I bought a HP Mini Notebook for my wife. Model: 1035NR
Everything was working fine. She goes to boot it yesterday and she gets hit with a password right after the AMI bios screen. She asked me if I set the PW, I told her no and she said she didn't either.

No big deal. I take it apart and unplug the CMOS battery for about 20 minutes.
Hold the power button down for a bit to discharge any left over juice. Put it all back together and same thing.

So I tried to leave it out for over 12 hours and the same thing.
I even tried various AMI master passwords (I knew it wouldnt work, but you know how desperate we get). So now I'm stuck.

I googled it today and found various information.
Most leading me to believe I am stuck with a paperweight or will have to send it to HP to have it fixed which will run me almost what I paid for it.

So am I missing something here? Anything else I can do?
Thanks guys!

A:BIOS password. Unplugging CMOS battery doesn't work.

Well I can tell you that removing the battery will NOT clear a pw on a laptop. This is a security feature. Next we do not assist with pw help. This thread is now closed.

I'm just getting a new HP Envy 700-010 computer set up. Came with 8 and then was upgraded to 8.1

I started with a Microsoft id, which set me up as Administrator, and that's working fine.

I set up a Local account with Type = Administrator, which it shows in the User Account profile.

I expected that this new Admin account would be a full-on Admin, with the ability to see and edit all files, pictures, documents, etc.,  including system "stuff," but it does none of that.  If I check the Properties/Security on a folder/file, it will show the account, saying that it is Admin, and showing the same controls as my Admin account, but it is unable to see any of the Library documents which reside in the structure under my Admin name (which is where I pasted them after copying from my Win 7 machine).  I haven't really done any other testing to see what else it could/could not do, once I found it couldn't even pick a new account picture for itself.

Are my expectations wrong, or is there something else I should have done, or done differently? I have deleted and then recreated it. I haven't done anything with Homegroup, as there is nothing to share. Should I?   We're a single computer/printer home.

My goal is too have only two accounts.  This new one as Admin account and a new Standard account for daily use, both as Local Accounts....then remove my Microsoft Admin user account.

I have a Dell Latitude D630. It has an admin password for the bios. Nothing is locked except for the settings. I can't change any of the settings in the bios. It lets me boot to windows just fine though. My question is, since I don't know that admin password for the bios, if I upgrade the bios firmware, will the admin password be deleted? Since I'm flashing the bios, I would think that all the settings will be lost. Is that the case?

Hi There,

I just built a desktop with a sabertooth x79 motherboard, and am running Windows 8.1 pro 64-bit. When I click the UEFI BIOS Firmware live tile via the change PC settings>update and recovery>recovery>etc. my computer reboots normally to Windows and will not open BIOS. I have tried accessing it using the delete and f2 keys, but this does nothing either.

Any ideas? I am up to date in terms of my BIOS, and am definitely running UEFI and not legacy.

Thank you so much.

I have been experiencing this bug for a long time now so thought it's about time I reported it here. I have Win7 32-bit(official RTM, clean install) only 1 account on it which of course is Admin.

Sometimes when I press the Windows button + l to lock the screen and come back after a few minutes, enter the password but Win7 reports it as wrong password all the time. I have had the same password for 3 years so I know for sure I entered it correctly all in lower case.

Also, if I deliberately try to enter a wrong password when my normal one doesn't work, I get the white round circle indicating that its being processed. Then after like 3 minutes, Win7 reports it as being the wrong password (the correct behaviour from Win7 would have been to reject the the wrong password immediately).

So I have to do a manual shutdown as it's the option left. I have tried to reinstall Win7 many times but this problem just keeps happening randomly. Most of the time though it doesn't happen.

I have a Dell M1530 laptop, Win7 32-bit RTM official. All updates as of 22nd Feb 2010.

The problem: I cannot install software for a usb device. Even when trying to "run as administrator", I get an error message: "Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item".

The device and software: Barbie Girls Mp3 player; Mattel; setup.exe file attempting to install with windows installer.

What I Have already tried: 1. User account control IS off (have toggled on and off, to no avail) 2. Enabled Administrator account, logged in as same, attempted to install, to no avail. 3. Under properties tab of setup.exe file, I have selected the box for compatibility mode and chosen windows xp, service pack 2, as well as windows server 2003, service pack 1. None of that worked either. 4. I have restarted numerous times, performed a registry cleanup, ran CCleaner, and defragged.

It is simply this: once I right click on the setup.exe file, I choose "run as administrator". I get the message that I copied at the opening of this post. I am running windows vista home on a dell inspiron 531 desktop. Please help!!

Dear Customer, Welcome to HP Support Forum and we are glad to assist you. This is to inform you that all HP Business Notebooks such as Probooks  or Elitebooks have more stringent security than consumer models infact they don't produce 'halt codes', the password cannot be derived from the Serial Number and thecode is stored in non-volatile memory so removing the RTC cell will not reset the password in this case. Please have a look at this link. http://forums.mydigitallife.info/threads/49497-HP-Probook-Elitebook-BIOS-Password-Reset-Utility Replace the BIOS chiphttp://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-Elitebook-8470p-8470w-8570p-8570w-8770w-Programmed-Bios-Chip-No-Password-... Please Contact HP Business Notebook support they should be able to send you a customized SMC.bin file which you can use at boot to reset the password. Hope this helps, for any further queries reply to the post and feel free to join us again  **Click the White Thumbs Up Button on the right to say Thanks**Make it easier for other people to find solutions by marking a Reply 'Accept as Solution' if it solves your problem. Thank You,GBL84I am not an HP Employee

A:BIOS Admin Password Reset

Hi, Your notebook is producing a hexadecimal halt code which is stored in ram as a 'one off' and will be re-calculated after a reboot.  This indicates you have one of the later AMI bios's and unfortunately none of the current code generators will work for this - surprisingly, you can still remove a power on password from the machine by removing the rtc cell ( leave the power board connected ) then hold down the power button for 60 seconds before re-inserting the rtc. The bad news is that the rtc is on the 'wrong' side of the system board so will require quite a lot of disassembly - see Page 115 of your Maintenance & Service Guide. Regards, DP-K

In the process of installing windows 7 Professional I discovered that I could not get into the BIOS or setup because it was password protected. I?ve tried a number of things including installing HP ProtectTools Security stuff and it seems that all that has done is to create more login passwords. I can now get into setup but as a user but not as an administrator and so I cannot change password. There is also another screen that shows up where I must enter a password and I?m not sure if that?s happening because of the HP Protect Tools that I installed and then removed or because of something in the BIOS. I?ve uninstalled HP Protect Tools and reinstall windows 7 and I still see both password screens. I attempted to update the BIOS using a file downloaded from the HP support website but cannot because I don?t know the admin password for access the BIOS.

@nguyenzung? Contact HP and they should be able to send you a customized SMC.bin file which you can use at boot to reset the password.  http://welcome.hp.com/country/w1/en/contact_us.html When talking to the HP rep ask them to escalate your service request. REO

Hi,          You can use the below link to generate the BIOS password reset key. Enter the System Halt code or the Serial Number of the unit to generate one.   You can: 1. Use the unlock code you generated to enter the BIOS2. Disable all passwords that are enabled in the BIOS's security menu.3. If asked for current password - type the unlock code4. For new password, just press ENTER key5. Repeat the same for verify password column.

Hello all hardware wizards, sorry to take your precious time .

I just purchased HP NC8230 laptop from eBay. It's really great laptop. The laptop not require boot password and so it reaches to windows XP, but unfortunately I discovered that its bios is admin protected, therefore I can't access bios and make any modification. I know that these business laptops have extra bios protection and therefore it's not so easy task to reset their password.

Can someone, that have experience with this kind of laptops, help me? It would be very appreciated.

We have two XPS12 9Q33 units that have the BIOS Admin password set, but no one left in the department knows the password. We've tried all the normal variants to no avail.
Yesterday I spoke with out of warranty support, and the gentleman was unable to help as from his documentation this computer has a Phoenix BIOS, while in reality all the units we have are AMI BIOS. We have 12 of these units, but only these two have the admin password set.
Does anyone know of a way to reset the BIOS ADMIN password? Not the system password, we have that, it's specifically the ADMIN password. Support yesterday was very frustrating in trying to get them to simply listen to what our problem was so I gave up on that and came here.

You could try plugging in a USB keyboard.

Also some laptop keyboard have a type of keypad. For example my laptop will type a "1" by pressing Fn+J.

Hey,

I have a computer in the lounge which doesn't have an internet connection so the specs on my profile do NOT match the computer in question.

Basically, the computer has an AMD 6 Core processor, 8GB of DDR3 memory a single harddrive and a dvd drive, if I go into the bios and then choose save and exit on normal computer it saves and restarts but this one saves and powers down and then does nothing which pretty much rules out the operating system being the problem.

If I turn the computer off and then tell it to restart it will turn off but it doesn't start back up...

What could be the problem and how can I test/check the system to see whats the matter?

Any ideas would be much appreciated

Unfortunately this .bat file will only run if I right click on it and 'run as administrator', yet my account is administrator.
Any way to solve this problem so I can simply right click on the hard drive and 'Lock' it?

Hi, Your notebook is producing a hexadecimal halt code which is stored in ram as a 'one off' and will be re-calculated after a reboot.  This indicates you have one of the later AMI bios's and unfortunately none of the current code generators will work for this - surprisingly, you can still remove a power on password from the machine by removing the rtc cell ( leave the power board connected ) then hold down the power button for 60 seconds before re-inserting the rtc. The bad news is that the rtc can be on the 'wrong' side of the system board so will require quite a lot of disassembly. Regards, DP-K

I have an older HP900 laptop which is a nice size to take in our motor home. However, it overheats after running for about 15 minutes. I understand there is a bios update that turns the cooling fan on sooner but I can't get into the bios because of password protection. Any ideas on how to crack the password or any pins to short to reset it?

The laptop will run fine if I rais it off the table and have a fan blowing on it from behind. Cooling fan in laptop runs, but it only comes on shortly before a shutdown if I am not running an additional fan blowing under it.

thanks for any ideas or help

I recently found myself locked out of my system's BIOS having never set an admin password myself. Since then I've had many problems including forced reboots/physical memory dumps while trying to perform scans requested in the malware detection directions for this site. I don't know specifically what is wrong, but have had software detect anonymous users logging on to my computer remotely without appearing as users in the control panel.I've reinstalled the operating system counteless times and always find the same problems within hours if not minutes of installation completion. Finally, and I'm not sure if it's relevant, but Windows only recognizes some 148 odd Gb storage space on my 160 Gb hard drive. Also, the computer will boot normally, but not in safe mode or any other diagnostic condition; when trying this a screen comes up listing all installed drivers and computer freezes.Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks,DDS (Ver_10-03-17.01) - NTFSx86 Run by Ted Cassel at 15:50:36.10 on Thu 03/25/2010Internet Explorer: 7.0.5730.13Microsoft Windows XP Professional 5.1.2600.3.1252.1.1033.18.3574.3139 [GMT -7:00]============== Running Processes ===============C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost -k DcomLaunchsvchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe -k netsvcssvchost.exesvchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exesvchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\wscntfy.exeC:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXEC:\WINDOWS&#... If your trying to change a bios setting or Reformat any of the newer Dell Laptop's you may run into this issue! There is an Administrator password you will be prompted for. I believe this is created at the factory and unplugging the bios battery no longer does the trick! I tried many different passwords combos and found that:

<dell> all lowercase and minus the brackets works for a few of the newer Dell Laptops

Good Luck,

Frajile-

A:Dell Bios Admin Password/Inspiron 1720

That makes no sense at all. If it were true then Dell would have to provide the password as part of the information it provides to customers when they buy the laptop. Anything else would subject them to being sued.

Windows 10 reset by MS. Told to put in new Administrator password, which I did & wrote it down in 2 places. Now will not accept the PW. Can you have a PW and a pin pls, as it will accept the pin. Any ideas?

A:Windows 10 Admin password will not work but I can use pin.

Yes you can have a password and a PIN. I have both setup on my laptop. On the Lock/login screen, below where you type them in, there should be a "login method" option. Click that and you can switch from Password to PIN of vice versa. Mine gets set back to Password after some Windows updates and I have to toggle it back to PIN. Every time a new build comes down the PIP it defaults back to Password. If it's set to PIN, and you enter your password, it won't let you log in. You have to tell it which one your typing in.

I have a couple of low-level apps that should be started on logon, stay on the system tray, and require admin privileges. The most important of them is NextSensor: my processor tends to overheat, especially in summer (which is now starting here in the Southern Hemisphere and is predicted to be hotter than usual this year), and NextSensor throttles it down to safety when CPU temperature approaches dangerous levels. Actually, NextSensor is the main reason why I'm running 32-bit Windows 7: it won't run on 64-bit because it needs to run its own system drivers for that, and it doesn't have a 64-bit version yet.

Just putting a shortcut to NextSensor in the Startup folder will cause annoying UAC prompts every time I logon to a standard account. Using Task Scheduler works great if I logon to an admin account, but no setting I have tried will make it just quietly start and go to the system tray in a standard account:

- Setting it to run as an admin user in Task Scheduler (either as an admin account or the Administrators group) also forces me to check Run only when this user is logged on, otherwise it won't ever appear on the tray (Windows disables user interaction when this option is unchecked). Predictably (duh!), this causes the task not to run if I just log on to a standard account, even if I configure the task to run specifically at that account's logon. The "At logon of any user" trigger is ignored - it will only run when I logon to an admin account. It is also not th... Read more
