Following a problem with Thunderbird not recognising its default profile and losing emails, I had the machine looked at by a local engineer. He recovered the emails but when I got the machine back it displayed text a lot fuzzier and more indistinct than it had been. The engineer assures me that nothing had been done to affect the screen sharpness or resolution but I'm stuck with a screen text which looks like Win 3.2.2 or 95 or one of those early free pieces of software. I've tried the MS Knowledge Base but it advises clicking links which don't actually exist, which doesn't surprise me, and I've been through the process of using ClearType and setting the screen to its native resolution, which doesn't work and only distorts all the icons and forces many of them off screen. Any answers please?

Gang is there a way to include iPAD Mini somehow as a client so that from my big muscular Win 8 HTPC do-all I can stream videos across my AP to the iPAD?
I realize there are a few moving parts here:
- the format: I am trying to learn Format Factory as a tool to convert things to an mp4 that the ipad can take, in 720p
- the player used on the Mini... does it require a different one than what's included... an app in other words
- somewhere I thought I saw a way to mount non-apple devices as 'server' to the ipad.... or was that on imac.
- push vs pull.. is there a way, from Win 8, to discover the iPAD device and through some authentication regimen, push the content over to the ipad?

I guess alternatively I can use Skydrive, then pick things out of the skydrive and copy to itunes... seems like a really circuitous route however. If I had the Pro package I could make a local server a "skydrive" server but I have a learning curve there...

thanks

One day I discovered all my files I had entered on the notepad app that comes with the iPad Mini had disappeared.  I was the only one using the iPad.  I don't see how one mistaken hand touch to the screen could wipe out all the files at once.  I have been using it since with no problems.  I use it everyday so now after a few days I email all the files to myself as a safety measure.

My ipad mini has two e-mail addresses:gmail.com and Charter.net.  The gmail.com works okay. The Charter.net, however, can receive e-mails but would not hold them.  Once I click on a e-mail to read it, the e-mail would disappear after a few moments.  The emails I moved to the sub folders after reading would disappear also.  Because of this, my charter mail boxes show all empty when I open my Charter mails the nest time.I brought this problem to a Apple store and was told that Charter e-mail services are known to be not friendly to Apple devices sometimes.  I ended up having to remove my charter account from ipad 2 and only use g-mail.Can anybody help on this?  My great many thanks in advance. / tjchang

I do not use charter, but this is from their site:QuoteMail ForwardingYou can have your Charter Email forwarded to up to 5 alternative email addresses.Have your carter email forwarded to other accounts. My videocard is GTX 285 and there is no option for sharpness. My LCD TV ( 32 inch full HD ) got this option but i cant acces it because i rename it the HDMI port to "pc"
If i leave it HDMI without to rename, i can acces the sharpness, but whatever i do, the text looks crap.
With this HDMI option, set to "PC" the text looks great, but i only want to reduce a bit the sharpness.
Is there some tools / thir party apps /software / for that ?!
Thanks in advance.

NOTE: I could not post code because I must be really careful to protect proprietary information.

I work in an assembly plant and I've designed an Access 2003 program to deliver a set of 4 crucial parts to the floor all within a very narrow degree of tolerance. Further, the program integrates FIFO.

Ive done this by assigning each of the essential measurements codes and then running a series of queries:

Query 1 identifies the oldest Part A by sorting the available parts by the date they were inspected then by serial number (to break ties) and delivering the TOP 1.
Query 2 identifies the oldest Part B that is compatible with that Part A using the same method.
Query 3 identifies the oldest Part C that is compatible with that Part B.
Query 4 identifies the oldest Part D that is compatible with the other end of Part A. I have the parts in this order because we can begin assembly if we don't have a Part D on hand, but we must have Parts A, B, and C.
Finally, query 5 simply pulls the information from those queries into one location for a report.
As long as we have enough stock, life is good; but the moment a match cannot be made, it blows up. I cannot figure out how to make it go back to choose the next Part A. I need to figure out how and where to add code to each query to tell it that if no stock is compatible with the Part A produced by Query 1, to go back and pick the next one in line.

Can anyone help? Is the way I've gone about matching parts completely... Read more

I can get a new Samsung IPS for $260 though the screen brightness is 250 cd/m2 as opposed to the Dell's 400 cd/m2 and I do like a bright screen.

Any thoughts welcome.

I have a new Samsung U70 USB Monitor.

It comes with a split USB cable that the manual tells me is needed to be plugged into TWO usb ports on my laptop. This is because it is powered via USB and needs the "extra power" i.e. two usb connections.

However, the cable was too short to reach two USB ports (they are on either side of laptop).

So i managed to install the driver with only one usb plugged in anyway. It also now powers up (and seems to work fine) with just one USB plugged in.

Could i damage it this way? Is it getting full power (maximum results) using one USB? Anything that could go wrong?

Thanks in advance.

You are taking risks.

That panel consumes 4.5 watts, and the limit of one modern USB port is approximately 2.5watts, I would use both.

USB 5 volts at 500 milliamps = approx 2.5 watts.

Hi there,

I'm very new to access and I hope I will get the simplest solution on my question below.

I have a table named "PurchaseOrder" and I'd want to create a query that will display the invoices that will due.

Eg:

Table1
PONo Customer Quantity SalesPrice InvoiceDueDate
3241 A 421 $12 17-Oct-2010
6589 B 521 $19 14-Oct-2010
2234 C 987 $32 15-Oct-2010
8697 D 888 $88 18-Oct-2010

I want to create 2 queries.

The first query will display all the invoices that will due 5 days before the exact due date.
Eg:
The invoice due date is 15-Oct-2010. The query will display information on 3241, 6589, and 2234.

For the second query, I want to display all the invoices that have exceeded the due date. The information on the respective invoices will be transfered from the query as mentioned earlier to the new query.

The scenario is as below:

Date: 16-Oct-2010

Query1

PONo Customer Quantity SalesPrice InvoiceDueDate
3241 A 421 $12 17-Oct-2010
8697 D 888 $88 18-Oct-2010

Query2

PONo Customer Quantity SalesPrice InvoiceDueDate
6589 B 521 $19 14-Oct-2010
2234 C 987 $32 15-Oct-2010
Date: 18-Oct-2010

Query2

PONo Customer Quantity SalesPrice InvoiceDueDate
8697 D 888 $88 18-Oct-2010

Query2

PONo Customer Quantity SalesPrice InvoiceDueDate
6589 B 521 $19 14-Oct-2010
2234 C 987 $32 15-Oct-2010
3241 A 421 $12 17-Oct-2010
Hope someone can help me with this. Really appreciate and hoping for ur help.

A:Query Access 2007 (how to transfer data from a query to another query)

Hi All, I just got a snazzy new system and built it yesterday. (You can see it's spec in my profile).

My problem is that I'm running two machines through a Belkin switch box into an Iiyama ProLite E430S 17" TFT monitor, and with my old machine, the screen is crystal clear, but with my new machine it is fuzzy with shadowing.

I've installed all the latest NVIDIA drivers, the laster Iiyama monitor drivers (although my old machine doesn't need them). Both machines are on the same version of Windows XP Pro.

I'm really at a loss about what to try next. Any suggestions will be more than welcome.

Thanks in advance,

I'd need to know a bit more about your system. What kind of video card, resolution/refresh rate, and driver version. Its likely that you may need to set your resolution a bit higher, or you may need to reinstall the video drivers. Check the manufactorers website for the most current drivers.

Hope this helps, post back w/ your system specs if that doesn't work.

Simple question I pray.
Here are two issues.

One:
I have assembled a computer system and I am slightly puzzled. I have a mic and speaker port in the front of the case, however, they have the normal 1" pins to plug into a mic and speaker outlet - but it's inside the case. I am fairly new to this at least, so I am asking if anyone can give me advice to help me with this. Do I need to purchase a specific PC Express Video card that has those "outlets" on the board?? Or do I feed out through the back and connect it to the mb?

Two:
I also purchased a 550w Clear Acrylic Power Supply. Dual fan system that both have neon light up. Finally after waiting for everything, put everything together and plugged it in and ... nothing. Absolutly nothing. I have wrote the company that sold me the Power Supply to ask them why they would sell me something that would not work in the first place, but I am annoyed at the fact that I get damaged goods. At least, that is what I believe it is. I have plugged it into different sockets at my house, and I have switched the small voltage meter to 110/220. Nothing. Not even the fans run. All I hear is a small mouse like sound coming from it. I contacted the company today and gave the 24 hours to respond. If I don't hear from them, then I will purchase from another company.

If anyone has another suggestions, I am open to it.

Thank you in advance.

Ok my computer is on and the monitor is on but there is no connection between the two. What isn't working so that the monitor and computer aren't working together? Its a desk top emachines I bought in 2003. runs windows 98 I believe. The emachines monitor went out on me not even a year after I bought it. I bought a used monitor from a friend. Its a gateway. Sorry that's all I got for now. I bought a new computer and monitor since this has happened.

A:No picture on the monitor

Welcome to the TSG forums...

When the monitor isn't showing anything, it is very difficult to tell if the computer is actually WORKING, or only sitting with the fans making noise, due to some problem you can't see, because the monitor isn't working... If the computer IS working, you should be able to see a (small) light flashing on the front of the system; the Hard Drive Activity Light flashes to indicate that the hard drive is busy working during bootup...

OK, let's figure that the hard drive IS working, and a little light IS flashing on the front of the computer while the system boots up... The MOST likely problem is that the videocard inside the computer has come loose, and is no longer making good contact in the slot where it is installed on the motherboard. You MIGHT be able to resolve this by removing the cover from the computer, and trying to reseat the videocard. You will recognize it because it is the card the monitor is plugged into...

Do NOT remove the cover while the system is running; SHUT DOWN and UNPLUG THE COMPUTER before you work on it. Failure to do this can mean serious problems for you, and damage to your system...

It is ALSO possible that something else has come loose inside the computer, though most times, you should hear a series of "beeps" when that happens. However, if your system does NOT have an internal speaker, you won't hear any beeps...

Truth be told, there are a MULTITUDE of reasons why you could be havin... Read more

There is not a video card as such?it is the graphics included on the Intel chip.

The picture is too big for the screen. The first column of icons on the desktop is barely visible and the task bar is almost totally hidden.

The highest resolution available in Display Settings is 1920 x 1080. When I open a window the text is very clear/sharp.
I have not been able to find any way of reducing the size of the picture using the TV/monitor settings.

Q1: How can I reduce the size of the picture so it just fills the screen?

Q2: Can I get a higher resolution than 1920 x 1080?

We have given our HP Pavilion desktop to our 2 children to use and we recently purchased a notebook for us to use. We also purchased a new flat screen monitor for the HP desktop. Everything was working fine on our children's computer, but in the last couple of days there has been no picture on the monitor when we turn it on. When we boot up the computer, we do not hear any Windows XP sounds, and when we press on the caps lock button there is also no sound. The button that you press to boot up the computer is lit up though, so the computer itself is on. We would like to begin a complete recovery on the system, but we can't without seeing what needs to be done on the monitor. Please help!

A:No Picture On Monitor

Hi,

Does the computer make any sounds at all? Such as when it usually powers up it should have an initial system beep. Also just to confirm, does the monitor work by itself? You should be able to test it using the laptop it it also has the same vga connector. And lastly, do you have access to another desktop system?

Hi all,

I installed a brand new case and PSU on my old setup (Asus M2NPV-VM) and there is still no picture on the screen. I tried using the onboard video, and then tried plugging my video card (nVidia 7600GT) but nothing works. The same thing happened to my when the system was using my old case, nothing would show up on the screen. I'm out of ideas.

Please help.

Thanks

Try a new signal cable to check that existing cable may be faulty?
Try a different monitor to establish whether the monitor has packed up?

There is no picture on my monitor. Just completely black. Everything is properly connected and everything is turned on and the screen is still black no picture. The dvi cable is not the problem it had to be the monitor acting up or my computer acting up. I locked my computer when I left my room and I turned off my monitor. When I came back to go on my computer I turned on the monitor and there was no picture just black. I moved the mouse to wake the monitor up or the computer up. Nothing worked still black screen. This is unbelievable Maybe Windows 7 is acting up and it's a bug that caused this weird issue. Windows 7 could be the culprit or my computer. I had to turn off my computer completely because the black screen was still there and when I turned my computer back on the monitor was working again I saw a picture. I saw the windows 7 login screen password. Please tell me how and why this happened.

I have an oldish dual core PC , EP41-UD3L motherboard , 4 gig ram , GTX 260 running XP .

I stopped using it a couple of years ago and gave it to my dad , its sat gathering dust so I decided to set it up for him to use . It had 3 HDD in it , the main one I have in my new PC as a slave , currently in it is one IDE and one SATA HDD . I unplugged the IDE drive and got ready to re-install windows.

Problem is theres no picture on the monitor , I tried another monitor , same story, I put another graphics card in , same story . You cant plug a monitor into the motherboard so I assume theres no built in GPU. The PC ran fine for me last time I used it about 18 moths ago , the memory was removed but I put some more in.

Really got no idea what to do as with no picture I cant do anything and I'm stumped. I can't tell if everything/anything else is working without a picture , all the fans are going , all the motherboard LED lights are on. I can't hear any beeps at all when switching the PC on.

I havent built a PC for years or messed around with them but am I correct in thinking that even if the memory isnt working or the HDD ishould still get a picture? . Kind of hard to do anything without a picture.

Power light blinks blue but no picture. I swapped it out with CRT monitor with no issues on the CRT monitor. How hard is it if I fix it myself? Whats the name of the part I need to fix this and where to buy the part?

A:No Picture on LCD Monitor

From the info you provided, it's hard to exactly tell what is wrong with your monitor. Most likely you have some capacitors or some transistors that have "burnt up" (failed). You have the blinking light which means that you are still getting some power to it, but not the full amount needed. Looking up the information on the monitor, it is from either 2007 or 2008. My best suggestion is to get a new one. This is not something that is quick and simple to fix. Most of the time when something like this happens, you have to unsolder parts and then solder new parts back on to the board. Also, finding available parts for the monitor might create another challenge. If you are comfortable with this type of repair work, then take the cover off and start looking for "burnt" parts.

im assuming its a desktop and not a laptop. if another monitor had the same result it sounds like the video card might be bad and will have to be replaced.

Due to user error, audio for both internal (Realtek) and external (Intel) HDMI monitors have ceased functioning. Restoration of this functionality isn't obvious. Video is fine and I have the latest drivers installed for both.

ASIO audio functionality works fine on each monitor for the applications that use it.

There must be a simple resolution to this, but I can't seem to find it. Is restoration of bog-standard audio possible here?

A:Internal/External Monitor Audio Query

Go to the Device Manager, Sound section. Both should be listed, may have error codes and may not. Either way uninstall each device, in the device manager, but DO NOT uninstall any drivers. Restart the PC and when Windows starts it should detect and install both devices. Then set the "speakers" as default audio playback device for the internal laptop speakers.

I have a recording studio and even with my recording interface connected (MOTU 896mk3 Hybrid) it does not interfere with regular PC audio.

Hi.

I recently built a new pc and so far I'm very disappointed with the display. Nothing is "sharp", everything is ever so slightly blurred. Joe Schmoe walking by wouldn't notice it but when you're actually working on the thing it's very apparent indeed, so much so that my eyes are being strained.

Briefly:
Aopen EZ18 XCCube - includes nVidia GeForce 4 integrated
AMD Sempron
512 Mb RAM

I had bought an Iiyama E431S TFT monitor and am in the process of returning it because the picture quality was not up to par. I was in contact with the vendor and with Iiyama themselves and neither of them was able to provide a solution. In the meantime I've hooked up an old "14 monitor but the image quality is still terrible. So, I'm wondering if there's anything else going on?

Any and all suggestions would be very welcome. I do a lot of work on my pc and staring at a screen that doesn't give me a very, very clear display just isn't an option in the long term.

A:Screen clarity problem

Perhaps the video cable isn't up to par? DVI would provide sharper image than D-SUB. Doesn't your monitor have a sharpness control?

Here are two samples of the text; it should be easy to tell which is which.

Can a monitor lose its "crisp and clearness" after so long. I have some older monitors on new machines with the refresh rate maxed. Is there anything else I can do with it or is served its time and needs to be thrown out?

A:Monitor picture clearness

You can try adjusting the contrast & brightness, as I've seen many monitors where users turn them both all the way up and that often causes the pixels to blossom which results in a bright but blurry screen. Though many older cheaper monitors dim so much they have to turn them all the way up, so at that point it's time for a new one. In environments where florescent lighting is used you often need more brightness to overcome the overhead glare, which results in shorter lifespan of the CRT.

Is it true that the picture size of a 15" lcd monitor is about the same size as a 17" crt?

A:lcd vs crt monitor picture sizes

Hi, plschwartz

It is pretty close, because unlike a CRT monitor, an LCD doesn't cover part of the screen with a bezel.

One thing to remember about LCD screens, however, is that they have a " Native resolution" ( depending on the size of the LCD) and generally do not look good at any other resolution.

Hello, I am trying to use my TV as a monitor for my computer. I have a GeForce 7950 and an Olevia TV. It has VGA and HDMI but I am trying to use the componet cables from my video card. The blue, green, and red ones. It shows up but everything is blue and white. The colors aren't coming in right at all. I have checked that they are matched correctly multiple times. I was wondering what I may be able to do to fix the problem? I have also tried reinstalling the video drivers. I would like to see if there is any way to fix this using the cables and not having to get a VGA cable.

A:TV picture for monitor"?

It is possible that there may be some type of "component video" type difference. The controller may be outputting Y,Pr,Pb signals while TV is expecting RGB signals.

It may be rather difficult for someone here to help troubleshoot your problem without knowing the exact brand and model number of the video controller card (I believe that GeForce 7950 refers only to the graphics ICs on the card) as well as the model number of the Olevia TV.

Hello All,
Yesterday I was surfing the internet, not doing much of anything, no new updates, no new driver or hardware or software installs, just a slow day checking the forums. Everything seemed normal so I leave the computer to go do something for about an hour. When I come back and pressed the space bar (that is how I wake up my computer) the computer fires up but there is no picture on my monitor. It is dead. So I restart the computer and I can get the BIOS screen on the monitor, and I can navigate through the BIOS screen and on start up I can see the Windows emblem on the monitor, but after that it goes black again. So I dig out my old monitor and hook it up and it works perfectly. My main screen is a Samsung S24D360 hooked up by HDMI to my motherboard, I have no graphics card. My old monitor is a 19 inch HP hooked up by DVI-D. I uninstalled and reinstalled the Intel Graphics driver, I got a different HDMI cable off of my Blu Ray player and tried that, I scanned for malware and everything, but still no signal on my main monitor. I need help to figure this out. Thanks.

I own an acer aspire e360 from 2002ish on windows xp professional. It has run without any real problems till just now. Upon normal browsing (nothing ram or memory intensive, no new browsers, no new hardware), the computer "randomly" flashed a bsod. The bsod flashed for too short of a time for me to copy down the error code. After this, the computer rebooted and the monitor receives no signal. The other connections all receive power. After a few seconds of the computer being on, any keyboard input leads to what seems like a restatt judging from the noises from the fan. However, the monitor displays no picture and receives no signal. My best guess is the computer is restarting into a bluescreen. Therefore, by "pressing any key" I am rebooting.

I have tried removing all connections except the power, keyboard, and monitor to the same end. I also tried installing a different monitor with no success. I tried booting into safe mode via f8 multiple times without seeing bios or any signal.
What seems to be the problem?
Thanks in advance.

A:bsod=>no monitor picture?

Hi .

The first thing I would suggest checking is...all connections.

If you have a separate video card (it's not onboard video), then I suggest removing the video card and reseating it. If it's onboard video, then I would (because I have spare components lying around my apartment) try a video card in lieu of the onboard. In such cases, I have to make sure that I have the appropriate video card type that matches up with my motherboard.

The only way that I approach troubleshooting a lack of video on a system...is to try to assure myself that other likely suspects (power supply, RAM, hard drive) can be moved to another system and actually work there.

When I'm sure that the above components/functions are working properly...and I still have a problem...I move on to the hard stuff (CPU, motherboard) as suspects. My experience-level doesn't allow me to do much with these, so I just take the troubled system to a local computer shop (I trust) and ask them to check it out for me.

I am using an ATI All-In-Wonder 9600 with 2 monitors.

Last night I had to uninstall and re-install the ATI software; for some reason I had lost the Capture Driver. After re-installing everything worked fine. This morning I turned on the computer and the monitors did not come on. I turned them on manually and they give a "NO SIGNAL" message. Is this a coincidence? Could the re-installing of the software cause it to not even show the BIOS bootup screen? I'm totally lost as to what to do. Install another video card - I may have one still around somewhere?

Any help would be much appreciated. I'm not at home now but any advice will be taken when I get there this evening. I do have a second computer there so I can respond to any comments, questions, etc.

Thank you,

I inherited a 17 inch monitor that requires a double male vga cord (not hardwired?) It will bootup and remain on for about a minute then the monitor will go black and the off on light will blink and make sort of a clicking noise about once per second continuously. I tried a new vga cord no change? What is the problem could it be compatibility or just an internal fuse of somesort? Works the same way on both boxes, go figure?

Possibly your video card? If you have a video card in that computer try swapping it out with your other system and test it in there, and vice versa (if you have a card in your other computer put it in the one that isn't working and see if it works). If you get the same error when you insert that card into the other computer then that would be a good hint. Or if you have onboard video, well......try putting in a card from another computer and see what happens.

Sending you a screen shot doesnt prove anything about her system a screen shot is just data not what she is seeing on her display. And it is probably the monitor, she can check by connecting ether another PC to that monitor or another monitor to that PC.

I have a Dell LCD 17" monitor, when I power it on I only get a grey/white screen no picture. The power light is green. Tried connecting this to another computer with no luck. Any ideas what could be causing this?
Thanks
Jim

I tryed to put the card in with the power on the pc ON, after that my pc rebooted all of a sudden,
and when i connected the card and the monitor, the monitir is not showing anything, and the inside of my PC smells like
burned plastic, I removed the card and its still not working. The card is OK i think, it doesn't smell wierd of anything.
I tryed removing the power cable for a minute and its still not working.
HELP!!!

A:Monitor not showing picture after new gfx card

Installing (and removing) cards or any parts with the power on can result in many potential failures including motherboard, the card that was removed or inserted, the power supply.

You should have a qualified computer technician check it out to see what was damaged.

2 days ago when I was cleaning my computer from inside from dust, and when i connected everything back (I didn't pull out any of the components) my monitor went blank, and only the brown light was shining. Then I disconnected the graphics card and put it back in. All the same, my graphics card still works, but I had to connect the monitor to the motherboard integrated card. When my system booted up (Windows 7 Ultimate), in devices and printers tab, under the computer icon was a yellow questionmark, saying that the PCI memory controller misses drivers, but it can't find them on the Internet. My MB is AMD 690v , and my graphics card is ATI HD 4670. What should I do? PLEASE HELP ASAP. Thanks.

A:Monitor doesn't show picture!

You motherboard may contain that AMD chipset but that is not the motherboard make and model. You need to identify the motherboard make and model and go to the motherboard manufacturer's website to find drivers for it. You would go to ATI's website for graphics drivers if you ever need them.

That said, you shouldn't suddenly be missing these drivers. Did you take precautions against static electricity discharge while you were cleaning the insides of the PC? Hopefully reinstallation of the motherboard drivers will be enough.

By the way connecting your monitor to the integrated graphics does not mean your Radeon HD 4670 card still works. It only works if your monitor is plugged into the 4670 and you get a normal output.

Hey guys, so this being my first post on the forum i'm not enritely sure what to put but here goes....
I've fairly recently purchased a HD ready 21" LG television to use with my computer.
My current operating system is vista, but the monitor only works when i first plug in my crappy 17" PC monitor, unplug it, plug my T.V in and connect the cables which is not only proper annoying but time consuming. Basicly, it is failing to display a picture of re-boot of my pc. I simply get a flashing message bounce around the sceen saying 'No signal'. I saw some other people posted their GFX cards underneath a similar thread, so i'm currently using Dual 512MB Nvidia Geforce 9800GTX Graphics cards. Getting really frustrated with this!! I rang up LG and told them about the issue, they said they'd review it over the next 2 days and get back to me, once they did get back to me they said that they believed the issue was somthing to do with my drivers not being installed properly.
Can anybody help?
Thanks alot, Plix.

Hi I have a fujitsu laptop with windows vista home premium. i used to be able to play it through the tv or second monitor, now it does not. I took it to comet and they reset the display settings and thought it was ok, but trying it again, it boots up ok and gets the destop back ground on, but nothing else will show up. when i am working on the laptop, the tv still only displys the desktop background picture please advise

A:second monitor displays only the desktop picture

You'll need to set it to duplicate, now you have the extended desktop mode on (you can use both monitor individually, ie, move your programs onto the TV display if you want to, your mouse pointer should be able to cross onto the TV display as well).
I'm not 100% sure on how to do it, I don't currently use dual monitors so I can't provide a hand-to-hand instruction set, but a quick Google search should provide you with one. ("set secondary display to duplicate vista", or the like?)

You have to understand I am just a beginner with computers first off........Ok here is my problem, our house was hit with lightening at both ends during the same storm, yes lightening does strike twice LOL The computer was unplugged but there was still an old phone line still plugged in that my son never unplugged, when the lightening hit the one end of the house it came into the house through the phone line, but all the phones worked it was the jacks that got fried, the lightening bolt that hit the other end of the house bounced off the tree right next to the house, and when we got the surge of power , it messed up my cable booster, and splitters but my computer is fine, it didnt mess with it at all, but my sons computer works and he gets no picture on the screen, his computer is hooked up to the TV but the TV is fine, we changed out the monitor cable, ( a geek told us that was our problem) but it still isnt working, what else should I try ?????? Please help, son is driving me crazy with no computer

My friend gave me his old laptop, he bought a new one.
The screen is crack making it totally useless.
I'm trying to boot from a USB stick but can't because I can't see what's going on.
If the system boots normal windows will show up on the external monitor.

Sony vaio

VPCEH33FD

Intel i3 2.3 ghz
6 gb ram
Intel video card
500 gb hard drive

Thanks in advance.

A:Laptop, external monitor no picture.

You could try pressing fn+F7 to see if it cycles to the external display while booting, if it does then just press enter to confirm and save, it's not done via windows but the Sony hardware, so give it a go and good luck.
