alienware 18 and dell 3007wfp hc no max resolution

Q: alienware 18 and dell 3007wfp hc no max resolution

Hi there,
I have an alienware 18 which runs the GTX880m
i recently got a dell 3007wfp hc, and could not get the promised 2560x1600 resolution
I am using the HDMI port from the laptop with this hdmi cable:
the audioquest pearl
www.audioquest.com/hdmi/pearl
and this adaptor
www.amazon.com/.../ref=od_aui_detailpages00
Both parts indicated that it is 4k ready.
I have also previously tired this cable
www.amazon.com/.../ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00
but also resulted in failure
I was able to make a customize tab in the NIVIDIA control pannel for 1920 x 1080 and the image got through, it is however very pixelated.
I was also able to create a tab for 2560x1600, while i hit the "test" button, the screen became black with only one line of pixels.
is there something i missed?

thanks so much!

This is the ULTIMATE gaming monitor! The video card was almost $400 though. I got the Dell 3007WFP from Neilson Distributing (800)526-1744 for only $1590 including shipping. I paid an extra $60 for their "Premium Grade" option with pixel-perfect gurantee and backlight balance test. Dell sells the 3007WFP for over $2000. They also had the 2407WFP 24" for $839 shipped, but I sprung for the big one!

Help! I have two 30" Dell 3007WFP Monitors and a Nvidia 7800 GTX video card. I was told that this card would run both monitors no problem. As it stands, my primary monitor works fine with 2560x1600 res, the secondary monitor works, but with much poorer resolution. I can't get the secondary monitor to display 2560x1600.

Any ideas?
Chris

A:Nvidia 7800 GTX / 2x Dell 30" 3007WFP

My name is Brad and I work at Dell headquarters in Round Rock, TX. Most likely the card only has one Dual Link DVI and one Single Link DVI. If this is the case you will only be able to drive one monitor at the max resolution (2560 x 1600). I can look into this further if you let me know more information on the graphics card (exact model/manufacturer). Please let me know if you have any more questions.

Two months ago bought a Dell 8900 from Best Buy. After 20 days, it would not start, same with the next 8900 replacement... only fewer days. The first gameware as a replacement did not start at all. The Alienware Aurora worked beautifully for 3 days and then would not start. In the 8900's,,, got the blinking amber lights on the start button. Tech is coming to replace motherboard. What the heck is happening? Could it be the monitor... or the external hard drive or what? Come on Dell,,, what's up? I have a Dell XP Laptop as a back up using the same external hard ddrive.

A:Dell 8900, Gaming Computer, Dell Alienware Aurora

I bought Alienware R3 my resolution is 3840 x 2160 and everything is small like in Alice World if I changed my resolution the right and the left side of my screen will go black if I tick the box where it says Scale Full Screen the display will be blurry and still some programs will not work in full screen are they will be so small (attached). I tried to change the text size to 200% it solved some of the issue but still many programs are too small and some programs require to set up font size on 100%.
All my drivers are updated I reinstall them and nothing.

A:Alienware R3 4k Scaling issue. Resolution 3840 x 2160 too small

This is a problem with the individual applications, not the system - check with the publisher for an update or upgrade that allows scaling on ultra-high resolution displays.

Hello Dell Community.
I have recently tried to connect my Alienware 15R2 Laptop to a television screen (not a specialised pc monitor) to use as a second screen. I initially had some problems getting the resolution right (it cut off the corners of the screen) but have since made it mostly fine by uding a custom resolution which keeps the majority of the screen.
The problem occurs when I try to play games on the second monitor, the games do not have the option for me to play at the custom resolution I am using (1700x900) and if I try to use fullscreen I cannot see the whole game screen.
I was looking through my graphics properties for my display adaptors (An Nvidia GeForce GTX 970M and an Intel HD Graphics 530) and it seems that my Nvidia card can only detect my additional monitor whereas my Intel one can only detect my actual laptop one, this means that I cannot really change the options on both monitors together or change how they interact etc.
Any help on how to control which adaptor controls which screen or anything else is very much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

why are alienwares so overpriced? how is an alienware with the same specs as a dell xps better and more expensive?

A:Alienware vs. Dell

Alienware actually makes sure all your parts will give you great performance.
Dell has this habit of saying "Intel inside" with a 3.0 ghz CPU and 512mb of RAM.
Then you buy the system and find out you can't upgrade anything in it and you bought a 3ghz Celeron with 512mb of PC133 RAM.
If your buying a DELL, look very closely at whats in it. There is almost always a huge bottleneck in the system that they expect you to overlook.

Alienware will always put great parts in their system, do a system burn in and then ship it. I have heard their Customer support is a little lacking though.

Recently, I changed a monitor from 2560x1440 to 2048x1920 and the X51 updated to Windows 10. Next, without any hardware changes, the XPS 8700 updated to Windows 10.
Aurora R1 is running Windows 7.x
Aurora R3 is running WIndows 7.x
What MS OS can the Aurora R1 support (2560x1440 display, updated GPU)
What MS OS can the Aurora R3 support (2560x1440 display)
Can either move to Windows 8.1.x? Or both?
Can either or both move to Windows 10.x?
What is significantly different between Win 8.1.x Pro and Win 10 Pro?

Thanks gurus!

A:DELL ALIENWARE AURORA R1, R3, X51, and XPS 8700

First there is a free upgrade from Windows 7 OEM to Windows 10 Retail so there is absolutely zero point in purchasing a Windows 8.1 Retail license...
Windows 10 TH2 is essentially a fixed version of Windows 8.1 where Metro Apps work correctly as "Windows".
Almost any system shipped with Windows 7 can run Windows 10. As they are 2009 and 2011 models respectively Dell did not provide updated drivers for Windows 8.x or Windows 10 because they are all out of warranty. All the drivers should be inbuilt into Windows 10 TH2 or automatically obtained via Windows Update. Its advised to update your BIOS to the latest revision before proceeding.
A Clean Installation also in general performs better. See here for details:
http://dellwindowsreinstallationguide.com/download-windows-10-oem-and-retail-iso/
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL1RkaknDn7v-Ucth4gt0U3BHVSY7oNkWr
Both systems likely have a legacy (non-UEFI) BIOS so take that into account when making the Bootable USB. Although you may want to look at the BIOS settings for the 2011 model to see if there is UEFI support.

I'm looking now for a device to disable to disable touchpad on my alienware 13.

I've opened Device Manager, but haven't found anything that could disable my touchpad.

In settings I have no such option to disable touchpad.

Maybe anyone has some ideas on that matter?

Hi, im trying to factory reset my computer because i'm just tired of having a full HD, and random software from years ago. Anyways, my current OS is Windows 7 and I have an Alienware m15x. Now i've read up on a few ways to restore this specific computer, however, I don't have the installation disc, AlienRespawn/DellDataSafe does not appear when press f8 at boot menu, and i don't have a factory system image to recover from apparently. So with this being said, Is there anyway to factory reset? I have a bootable USB drive with windows 7 recovery on it, but I need a system image or something I believe. I've also tried download AlienRespawn Win 7 patch off of alienware.com but when I try to use it it says "Change.MBR failed"

hello everyone, i am a newbie here.

i got my alienware laptop less than 10 days ago, and it has been restarted itself randomly for 2 times, the first time i was using photoshop and the second time i was just reading some web pages...i have done some research and the problem appeared to be the hardware.

that will be so damn awesome if it's the hardware 'cause i'll have to go all the way 20km to get local dell store to fix it, and they will take weeks maybe just to get some parts...so i hope, it's a system bug.

alienware 15m (that 15inch model, can't remember what's called)
windows7 home prem,
8G ram
650G hard drive
ATI HD 5850 (some people said that it could be the graphics card drive's fault)

A:Why my dell alienware restarts itself randomly?

First, since this things only 10 days old it is certainly under warrenty. I'd be telling Dell straight up to fix this thing and a) either they send someone to get it or b) they give you an RMA # with them paying the shipping both ways.

If you don't want to take this path first then go to their website, find your exact laptop model and update their latest video drivers from there.

Hi, I can't seem to get anything higher than 1920x1080 in the list of available resolution options when I connect my Dell U2713HM monitor to my Dell Inspiron 15 laptop. I've run this monitor at 2560x1440 on another laptop over HDMI in the past but that was with Windows 8. The Intel HD Graphics 530 Control Panel doesn't offer any resolutions above 1920x1080 for the external monitor and adding custom resolutions results in the error "the custom resolution exceeds the maximum bandwidth capacity". I'm using the same high speed HDMI cable that worked at 2560x1440 with this monitor on my previous laptop. I'm fully up to date on all of the drivers for the laptop.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm not sure what else to try. Could this be a Windows 10 issue? Should I try the standard Intel HD Graphics 530 drivers from the Intel website?

A:Dell Inspiron 15 7559 connected to Dell U2713HM monitor over HDMI can't do 2560x1440 resolution in Windows 10

Hi JonoBloo,
The hardware on the system supports the 2560x1440. It should be a software issue. I would suggest you to uninstall and reinstall the video card driver from Dell website as these drivers are tested on the Dell system. Please follow the steps mentioned below to uninstall the video card.

Press the Windows key and Start typing devmgmt.msc and then press enter.
Select the Display adapters listed and right click on it.
Now select properties.
In the properties window, under Driver tab, click on Uninstall button.
Check “Delete the driver software for this device.”
You want to delete the driver click OK.

After the uninstall finishes restart the system. Then reinstall the Intel video card driver for issue resolution. Please enter your service tag # on the link below, select the OS, then download the video card drivers from Video section onto the system and install it.

Hello sevenforums,

I have an external mouse that works on other desktops/laptops but not on my alienware.
It shows up in device manager and lights up but wont work other than that.

I have already tried updating drivers

On another thread i saw this
-----------------------------------------------------
Have no idea if this will help in your situation but it sometimes solves weird USB problems.

Shut down laptop
Remove AC power cord
Remove the battery
Press and hold the laptop power button for 30 seconds
Reinstall the battery
Reconnect the AC power cord
Restart laptop
Reconnect and try USB mouse
---------------------------------------------------------

I tried that but it didn't work.

Could it be the mouse is just not compatible?

not sure what brand mouse it is but its a cheap one.

Here are some specs:
win 7 64 bit
8 gigs ram
i7 2.2 ghz cpu

A:external mouse not working on dell alienware

To confirm: this is a laptop? (Your MySystemSpecs say Desktop)

With the mouse connected, go into the mouse properties and go through all the options and see if you can find anything obvious there.
Start > Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Devices & Printers > Mouse

On the Hardware Tab you should see the touchpad and the mouse. See if you can "Change Settings" with the mouse highlighted. This is to see if Windows is recognizing the mouse and it's driver.

One other WAG: try putting a plain sheet of paper under the mouse as a mousepad. Just a test.

I started this thread at the beginning of November: Virus help

since then I haven't had the time to fix it but now I've been considering just reinstalling the OS but my problem is I'm not sure how to. The computer with the virus is an Alienware bought from Dell so it didn't come with a windows CD though I have one from building another computer. I was wondering if it was safe to use the other cd or will that not be able to register windows on two computers? And I'm not sure if the Alienware computers come with an internal CD for reinstallation or anything like that.
I would prefer to not have to deal with Dell since they are a hassle and I don't trust them to not charge me for services.

Hi,
Not sure if this is the right place for this topic, but I'm posting it here in the hope that someone at Dell will raise this with the right person.
I've been desperately trying to buy an Alienware Graphics Amplifier from www.dell.com.au, but when I search for the product and click on the search result (the link I get is accessories.dell.com/.../productdetail.aspx, I get a product not found error page.
I raised this with support through online chat, but they told me to contact the parts department via phone. I then spent over 20 minutes getting bounced around different departments before I gave up.
Has the Alienware Graphics Amplifier been discontinued or is this just a bug in the site?

If I wanted to keep my current home computer as my main server & be able to access it remotely via laptop any where in the world if I'm away for whatever reason.

What kind of laptop would be best?

My business is websites, so I almost automatically jump to an apple since its pushed more for the graphics/artists

But I also like the dells & alienwares.

I'd also like them to talk wirelessly/via bluetooth while they are in the same room together to "sync" up.

I'm just not sure which way to go.

I wont be gaming, just heaving internet surfing & web design/work.

I run Win7 64 & Ubuntu 64 (though I havent used it as much since win7 64 came out)

Apple is also pushed strongly in the professional audio sector.

That doesn't necessarily mean it is better for a professional or studio to use, however.

Any laptop will do. Look into Dameware software. It's great.

I have searched google, but I can't seem to find anything that worked. I right clicked and went to properties, then I went to the settings tab, and I couldn't move the resolution bar, it was stuck at the lowest (640 by something else) and with a low color quality. I clicked "advanced" and then the monitor tab. there was nothing there at all... I couldn't click on properties or anything (which means i couldn't install the driver from there) so I clicked on the adapter tab (there was nothing here either). I tried installing the driver from the dell drivers and utilities disk that the computer came with, but it wasn't listed. Please help this is really making me mad . ----------------------------------------------------------------

A hard drive format and fresh install of XP will rarely install the drivers for all the devices in a computer. That's why you want to have the current drivers burned off to a CD-R before you start.

In your case, the driver for the display adapter/graphics controller didn't get installed, so the resolution is stuck on 640 X 480.

Ok, so i just reformatted a dell latitude laptop, and everything is working fine, until i go to change the screen's resolution size to make the icons smaller... it does in fact make them smaller, but increases the size of the screen so that it extends past the borders, forcing me to push the mouse to the edges of the screen to display different sections that i need to get to (Ex: for the "My Computer" icon i have to "push" the screen to the far upper left, while the task bar I have to "push" the screen to the very bottom). I remember i accidently changed something on my previous laptops settings that caused it to do this, and accidently fixed it back, but i have no clue how to go about doing it on purpose this time... does anyone know what's going on?

I have a Dell Latitude 810 Laptop.
Windows XP SP 2
ATI Radeon x600

A software recently told me that I needed to update my driver and the video BIOS. I did so, only to find that the most recent game that I was trying to play wouldn't work anymore (TrackMania Nations.) I rolled back the driver, only to find that I cannot do resolution shifts anymore. Whenever I manually shift or a game shifts resolutions, the screen has a black frame around it. The FN + F8 shows CRT/LCD, and that usually does the trick. It is not working or it is not the solution. Is there a way that I can manually do the function of that key. Maybe that is not the solution at all? The FN + Up arrow does make the display brighter, so I am assuming that the FN key works. I've gone into the BIOS and switched the Expanded LCD setting to off and enabled. Neither makes a difference. What should I do?

A:Dell Laptopm Resolution Issue

When it comes to video card drivers(or any driver for that matter) do NOT roll back the driver or update the driver without un-installing the old driver first.

Go into 'add/remove programs'. Uninstall the ATI display driver using the ATI uninstall utility that comes with the later drivers. Otherwise just uninstall the 'ATI display' driver as well as 'Ati Control panel'. Reboot. Install latest drivers and you should be good to go.

Rather then trying the quick resolution shift you might just right click on the desktop. Click 'Properties' then 'Settings' and switch the resolution there.

Anyone any help

LIkely not.  The only notebooks that have 5K support right now are Macbook Pros -- and only the very newest of them.

Hello,
I'm rebuilding a Dell Latitude c810. I installed a 120g hard drive, added memory to get up to 256meg, added a dvd burner and installed Windows 2000 pro just like it came with. For some reason my monitor will only fill about 1/3 the screen. I try to change my resolution but it's as high as it will go. It also has limited colors. I know I need a driver or something but don't know exactly what. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

A:Problems with monitor resolution with my Dell

Go to the Dell support site, enter the service tag number from the back of your Dell. Then go the the software downloads section, Drivers and Downloads, and examine what video graphics drivers are available. It is usually nVidea GeForce2... download that driver software and carefully follow the instructions on how to install it.
This will usually take care of the problem.

I just reformatted my dell computer and then re-installed Windows 98. The resolution on the monitor is lousy and locked at 480x640. I tried downloading a driver for my monitor, but none was available. I then reformatted and installed Windows XP and everything worked great. I want to put Windows 98 back on, but also want to be able to adjust the screen resolution. What do I need to do??? Thanks!

A:fuzzy resolution on dell monitor

If things look lousy and resolution wont go above 480x, it means the video drivers arent installed, usually. With win98, you can get them from either Dell website, or possibly from the driver CD that came with the computer (browse the CD for win98 video adapter driver). The monitor may need its own "driver" usually an .inf file, get from Dell site, also, for make and model on the monitor. WinXP contains a lot more drivers than win98-
Check what is listed in Device Manager- will show what has been detected and installed for "Display Adapter" and under Monitor. You have to know the exact model, type of video you have, like AGP, and whether it is a card or onboard (integrated) chip to find the right driver. Check at Dell site, or in system paperwork if you have that...should tell you what you have.

Hi,
I am busy finding my way with a new Dell XPS 13 (9350). Many of the programmes I have display very well, but sometimes they programmes that load are so small that you need a magnifying glass to navigate your way around the screen.
Microsoft Office, for example, has no issues,
but
When I load my Adobe Photoshop Elements, the display is so small that I can hardly see anything.

How do I go about setting up the display so that it is easily readable? The attached screenshots hopefully illustrate the problem I'm having.
Sometimes - even in my browser - one section of the browser will display legibly, but another section of the screen (possibly linked to a java application) will display incredibly small.

Example of a website that displays inconsistently.

I have the same problem. Auto cad tool bars are unreadable. Google Earth has same issues and very large text for state names. The drag icon is very small. Maps program will not show roads when zoomed in. i have heard this is a windows 10 issue, but I don'r believe it. I have two desk tops running windows 10 and all works well.

Hey Guys

After using my PC for a presentation on a projector today it seems that something has changed on the screen settings. If I choose a lower setting than max (1920x1200) the screen image becomes smaller on the display and does not utilize the whole display, rather than text, icons etc becoming bigger, and still filling the whole display. The image below will illustrate how it looks on my screen when I turn the resolution down. Before the whole screen would still be filled, but the icons and text would be bigger.
Hope someone can help me, as this affects some programs with lower resolution, that will no longer use the whole screen..

I've owned this laptop for quite a while and had been using Webcam Central to control the Integrated Webcam on my Alienware M17x R4.   I never had any issues using Windows 7, 8, 8.1, or even Windows 10 until my system updated on 8/20/2016 with a scheduled Windows 10 update.
After the windows 10 update my system restarted and the next time I went to use my webcam I noticed that I couldn't control the pan / zoom / or tilt or alter any of the settings in webcam central.  If I attempt to change anything it automatically changes back instantly.  For example of I move the slider to zoom, or attempt to change the pan, it auto goes back to where it was and will not allow me to change the settings.
I also notice that my mouse pointer flickers over the webcam central GUI, meaning, there seems to be some issue with the GUI after the windows 10 update, I assume is also whats causing the settings not to be changed.
I have tried uninstalling both the drivers and software and reinstalling to no avail, same problem is present after reinstallation of both drivers and the webcam central software.
Wondering if anyone else has run into this and whether there was some type of resolution.
I was able to get the pan / zoom / tilt working with 3rd party webcam software, however I would prefer to go back to using webcam central.

We recently purchased a Dell GX270 running Windows XP Professional.

We were hoping to replace our Sony VIAO as a music and ITunes server in our entertainment center.

We have a dennon reciever which brings in HDMI (converted from a DVI output in the video card) and send it to our sony Flat Screen TV

Previously we could run multiple resolutions and screen rates with no difficulty.

When we installed the Radeon 9200 video card, with DVI output, the card was operating great in "plug and play mode" on a regular computer monitor (flat screen)

when we moved the GX270 to the TV, it would only display 720 x 480 screen resolution....

we are not sure how to correct this and have the other resolutions...

Hypothesis 1: change driver from "plug and play" to "default" monitor... we dont see an option for this. we have deleted the previous montors from the configuration and letting it reinstall....

Hypothesis 2: hook up a primary monitor on our video card and the dvi as a secondary monitor.. then make changes using the primary monitor (Computer monitor....) and then switch which monitor is "primary"

Hypothesis 3: there is some known driver issue, etc... and we can get it fixed!

We looked on the web quite a bit, and found something similar in these forums... but... not sure.... http://forums.techguy.org/hardware/491054-dual-monitor-nightmare.html

My wife has a Dell Inspiron 1012 laptop computer that we purchased an external CD-ROM player for, since the laptop did not have it's own CD-ROM built in.

We installed a 'hidden object' game from a CD we purchased called 'Treasure Seekers' produced by by E.games onto the laptop computer via the CD-ROM player, only to find that the game does not fit the screen. We cannot see the 'buttons' that control the game. It would seem that the game display is too large for the laptop screen when'Full screen' is selected
On deselecting 'Full screen' mode, though the game display is smaller in size, the bottom portion of the game is totally distorted, it is just a jumble of elongated colored streaks where the games control buttons would normally be.

I installed the game on my desktop computer to see if it worked on a larger screen monitor and it came out okay, all the controls show up in the display and the game works fine.
The screen resolution on this computer is set at 1024 X 768.

On checking the Dell Inspiron 1012 laptop's display settings and found that the screen resolution is at 1024 X 600. The slider adjustment goes between 800 X 600 and 1024 X 600. Moving it down to the lower setting, only distorts the screen display and does nothing to change the game's appearance. There is no way to adjust it any higher.

Is there any way around this resolution problem or any other fix that would allow the game to be played on th... Read more

I have just bought a used Dell Ultrasharp 3007 30 inch monitor, I connected it to a G5 quadcore MAC computer with an NVIDIA 6600 video card, I have two DVI video ports, on one port the display can only be set on a maximum resolution of 1080X800, while when inserted on the other DVI port the display selector can show the various resolution options up to 2560 x 1600, but when any hiigher resolution than 1080X800 is selected the display turns pink with vertical stripes. I tried to connect it to my Mac Book Pro laptop which has a hi res of 1920X1200, but again if any higher res than 1080X800 is selected the same thing happens to the Dell display, turns pink and with stripes and nothing on the display is visible. You have to install your video card drivers. go to www.ati.com and select the "Drivers and Downloads". You should be able to find a copy there. If not, go to www.driverguide.com and sign up. It is free and offers thousands of drivers. You will find it there if nothing else.

I am having a problem with screen resolution with my Dell 2407 FWP monitor.
I’ve been on the phone multiple times between Dell and NVIDIA (my card manufacturer) without a satisfactory answer. I am using a Gateway 710 PC and XP Home and I even upgraded to a NVIDIA GE Force 7600 GS 512MB card thinking the card was the problem. The native resolution of the Dell 2407 is 1920x1200. This yields small icons, fonts and screens. I have tried all the resolutions available to me in the Settings panel of the Display Properties window and other than 1920x1200 or 1680x1050, all the other ones are not a 16:10 ratio and distort the image. Dell suggested using 1280x800 or 1440x900, but these choices are not available to me. Dell said they can see them on a test they ran, even though they are not supported. I don’t really understand this, because I can’t see
them on mine. The spec sheet says the monitor supports 1920x1200, 1600x1200, 1280x1024, 1152x864, 1024x768, 800x600.
Nevertheless, my question is…do you have any suggestions what I can do to see a reasonably sized image that is not distorted. I have played around with changing font sizes and changing the DPI which helps some with the size, but causes overlap of text in some screens and windows.

I could provide you more specific information if you desire, I didn’t want to overload you with details now. I really like the monitor, I just can’t understand why I can’t get a decent sized image without distortion. Lots of folks have 24 ... Read more

I have read a number of reviews for the Inspiron 8500 online, claiming that its native resolution is 1400 x 1050. I have also read certain reviews that said they "got the resolution up to 1400 x 1050." Mine is stuck at 1200 x 800; Of course I can change it to a much less desirable 800 x 600 or 640 x 480, but I am trying to inCREASE the size of the screen. Dell support could not help me, and I'm wondering what I must do, if anything, I reach my goal of 1400 x 1050.

Thanks a bunch,

A:Dell Inspiron 8500 native resolution too low

There are 3 different screen options available when you purchase the 8500: (From their brochure)

"The Inspiron 8500 offers a choice of the latest wide-angle TFT LCD screens.
Choose from a 15.4" UltraSharp WXGA display with 1280 x 800 resolution
or
a 15.4" UltraSharp WSXGA+ display with 1680 x 1050 resolution or
a pin-sharp 15.4" WUXGA display with 1920 x 1200 resolution"

I assume you purchased a 1280 x 800?

The actual panels and drivers are different, you can't "swap" native resolution, the panels are digitally driven.
1 pixel = 1 pixel, you can't add pixels to an LCD screen, and to scale the image causes horrible loss of detail (1 pixel = 1 and a bit pixels, but you cant actually have a bit of a pixel with clarity)

Enjoy what you have, its very nice.

Hey guys,

We bought the Dell U3011, which has a max resolution of 2560x1600 (its inputs are twin DVI ports, 2 HDMI ports, DisplayPort, Component Video). Apparently there are two ways to get this max resolution: DisplayPort or Dual Link DVI-D.

Can someone tell me if there is ANY way we can still use the max resolution on this laptop: HP Envy 15. The only port is has is HDMI and eSATA (no DVI even). The video card in the computer is an ATI Mobility Radeon 5830, you can view the specs here:
http://www.amd.com/us/products/noteb...830-specs.aspx

In the specs it says DisplayPort is supported on the GPU, but there's no jack for it on the laptop.

Any hope??

Thanks so much!

A:Bought new 30" Dell Monitor.. can't get max resolution

When using the HDMI, the max output is 1920x1200 as stated in the specs. If you do not have DisplayPort or DVI on your laptop, then it cannot be directly plugged into the monitor to get a resolution 2560x1600.

I did figure out a trick though, if i plug in my 2005fwp boot my computer, then unplug the dvi and hook in the 2407wfp Dvi, it will turn on! So i found 2407wfp vista drivers and force install. But it only picks up 1920x1080(should be x1200), i tried the Nvidia panel for customize resolution, but it keeps popping up an error messaging saving the monitor does not support that resolution.

So i guess what im trying to ask is this a hardware issue or software? or is it both??!? And is there another way to install some generic monitor driver that will support [email protected]

thanks.

A:Dell 2407 Drivers/resolution issue

Sounds like a hardware problem but you can ttry a program called power strip to to try and set the resolution you want PowerStrip - Download
You will ned to installl it in compatibility mode XP for your 32 bit windows seven Compatibility Mode
You really need to first find out the soecs on the monitir your trying to use and ewhy it won't startup onit's own. this tells me something is seriously wrong with something.

In your manual http://dlcdnas.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/...19_a8r-mvp.pdf it says it only supports 1920x1200 While using X850 Crossfire Editon @65 hertz

You should also try updating your bios to the latest and under "other" are your chipset drivers you may want to install them as well, their all for windows XP http://support.asus.com/download/dow...Language=en-us

I have a Dell Vostro 1000 running Windows XP. If I leave my laptop running and shut the laptop lid and leave it for a while, when I open it back up, the screen resolution has changed. Everything is very large and you can't see the whole screen at one time. But when I go to the display properties screen and check the screen resolution settings, the actual bar setting has not moved to a new setting. I have to move it to a new setting, let it go there then move it back to the original postion and reset it to get it back to my original resolution setting. The original setting is 1280 X 768. The only way I have been able to kind of work around this was to go to display properties, chose screen saver, then power scheme, then the advanced button, then in the box where you instuct it on what to do when you close the lid, tell it to go to standby. It then does not change the resolution when i close the lid but it also interupts the wireless connection so no emails are loaded while the lid is closed and it is in standby mode. I then have to wait evertime I open the lid for it to crank up my wireless connection and then wait for it to load any new emails that have come in since I closed the lid. Any ideas anyone.

I have a Dell N5010 laptop that is about 5 years old and has Intel HD Graphics. It is running Windows 7 Home Premium. The highest resolution it will display on the laptop screen is 1366x768. I would like to purchase a monitor so I can use the laptop like a desktop.

My question: is there anyway to tell what the max resolution my laptop will push to a HD monitor? I don't want to spend extra getting a 1080p monitor if my laptop is not capable of reaching that resolution. Also, if I did get a 1080p monitor and the laptop cannot push that resolution, will the monitor still be usable? As in, will the screen display correctly, just at a lower resolution, but with a correct display ratio?

I am a computer novice so I greatly appreciate any comments. Thank you very much.

A:How to tell max resolution Dell N5010 laptop will push to monitor?

The resolution your laptop runs at now is not far off 1080p anyway, if you have a 1080p TV, just use the HDMI connector on the laptop and see if it works on your TV, if it does then you know for sure then that it will support 1080p. But just to give you some comparison, My processor is slower than yours, my RAM is the same as yours and my computer has dual 1080p screens attached to it.

I think you'll be fine.

Having really bad resolution issues on Dell XPS 13.
I'm using it for University, and I'm doing a computer science course so the command line is an important feature. The text on it is completely zoomed out, I have went into the properties and maximized the font to no avail. Here's what it looks like, the image may not do it justice - I really have to squint to read it.
Most other programs are like this too. Unity 3D looks really blurry, Sublime Text 2 looks the same. Text looks like it has been zoomed in on a few times so it fits the resolution and as a result you can almost see the individual pixels on text.
Here's another program: Malwarebytes

This does feel like a bit of a joke considering the laptop is worth well over a thousand pounds.

A:Terrible resolution issues on Dell XPS 13 2015 QHD model

Hello,
Have you gone into the screen resolution control panel for your system and selected the option to "Make text and other items larger or smaller" ?
If not, right click anywhere on your desktop and select the option to change screen resolution.   You should see that text size option near the bottom of the screen.    Alternately, you can go into your control panel on your system and go into the "Appearance and Personalization" section.
TBH, I'm not sure that text control will work in the Command Prompt or not.  I would think that it basically another Window that the OS can control the font size, etc., but I've never really tried it so I am not sure it will work.   You may need to change the overall resolution of the monitor to get to an appropriate screen size.
Let me know if that text size adjustment helps or not.  if not, I'll see if I can find something else that may help.

I have a situation very much similar to the one described in this post below.

My machine is Dell E6400 in its lowest configuration and default video card, et cetera.

I got a Dell 2312HM monitor that's capable of 1080 and the highest I see available is 1600 x something with 1920x1080 not even shown. 1600x BTW looks awful. It runs by default the "recommended" 1366x768.

I deactivated the notebook screen, shut down the lid making the 2312HM the only screen to no avail.
I downloaded the driver for the 2312HM also to no avail. What else can I try?

I am running this via VGA port, could this be the problem, should I get the Display Port cable? There is no HDMI in the laptop computer, just DVI/VGA and DP. I was under the impression that VGA can display 1080.
I was also under the impression the stock video card can run 1080p.

Screen resolution will not display 1920x1080

Quote:
Problem- I have Sony Vizio, display name of E320VP, 1920x1080. When I right click and go to screen resolution it will not let me go pass 1366X768. I have tried using amd vision and clicking on use EDI and it helps and shows 1920x1080. However under screen resolution when I right click on my desktop it still will not let me change and only shows 1366X768.

Also while running games, 1920x1080 is not an option for me to select under screen resolution.

How can I fix and or solve this problem. Thanks in advance.

A:Dell E6400 - Screen resolution will not display 1920x1080 via VGA

VGA should support 1920x1080. But you're better off using the DP.

1. Restore points get corrupted and do not always work, so that is not a big issue.
2. sounds like you are using the wrong driver for your graphics card, this reverting seems to be kicking out the wrong driver.

You should try to remove the driver totally and then re-install based on the graphics card type. You may have to open up the computer and take a look inside to see the model number of your graphics card, or if it is built into the motherboard, look for the correct driver based on your board type.

I hope this helps.

Hello all, the Mermaid is back. I have a new comp, Acer Veritron S460 and Dell Monitor, E228WFP, and I'm unable to change Resolution settings, am stuck on 1280x1024. Display drivers updated, (but Acer drivers are notoriously hard to find, for Win XP Pro ) any and all help would be appreciated.

A:Solved: Acer Veritron /Dell Monitor Resolution Problem.

Here is Dell site for the Dell E228WFP 22" wide-screen LCD monitor.

The native resolution for that monitor is 1680 X 1050 and shouldn't be displaying at 1280 X 1024.

When you do a scan at the Windows Updates site, does it have an INF file available for that monitor? If it does, download and install it.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Here is the Acer site for the Acer Veriton S460 desktop.

According to the specs, it has an Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 3100 graphics controller.

The Intel driver available at the Acer site for Windows XP Pro is version 6.14.10.4847 and can be downloaded from here.

Select "Desktop" and then "Veriton" and then "S460" and then "Microsoft Windows XP Professional x32".

When you click the orange icon next to the Intel entry, the file will start downloading. Since it's in a ZIP file, save it in an empty folder that you create on your desktop.

When you extract inside that folder, a new folder will appear. Double-clicking the "Setup.exe" file will start the install process.

I have recently loaded Windows 7 (Home Premium) on to a Dell Dimension 2400 (32 bit). Installation went smoothly but screen resolution is stuck at 480 x 640 which makes the computer practically unworkable. I understand (but am nor sure) that Dell does not support Windows 7 on this machine and the only solution is a new video card. I badly need some expert guidance.

A:Dell Dimension 2400 Windows 7 Screen resolution stuck at 480 x 640

The 2400 isnt really a good candidate for win 7. Its max memory is 2x512=1024 and the video is integrated using some of the system memory.

The minimum requirements for win 7 32 bit is 1 gig and recommended 2 gigs.

My wife is uses this PC daily and I have upgraded it to Windows 10 Pro (32-bit). This is a great improvement over 8.1 Pro and now provides full functionality, including the 'Sleep' option that was missing in 8.1.
We recently decided to purchase a widescreen monitor (LG 22MP57) and that has a beautiful clear picture quality. However, the onboard graphics chipset does not have a driver upgrade path for widescreen. Consequently, the best compromise we can achieve is an image that is stretched horizontally (1024x768).
I have, therefore, now entered into the tangled jungle of non-gaming graphics card selection, bearing in mind that a low power device is needed that is physically compatible with the available slots as well as being compatible with Win 10. So, we have the big question as to which (if any) graphics cards that fit PCIe x1 or PCI x1 slots also offer 1920x1080 resolution? Among new PCIe cards that would fit, one that seems a possibility (on paper) is the GeForce GT730 LP. That has a PCIe x2 interface, which is supposedly backwards compatible with x1. To avoid wasting my money purchasing one of these, it would first be useful to know if anyone else has tried this card in the Dimension 3100. Alternatively, has anyone found another satisfactory way to get 1920x1080 resolution on a Dimension 3100?

Small annoyance -

As the title says, I have Dell Vostro 1400 w/Vista Business. Using just the laptop monitor. I set the video resolution (as it was when it arrived) at 1200 x 800. Now, it changes to 1024 x 800 when the computer is put to sleep and the awakes. I can set it back to 1200 x 800 and it works fine. Anyone have any ideas? It is small so it drives me a little nuts.

Ok - First off Im using a 32" Dynex TV as a monitor, hooked in through a VGA port on the TV. When I start my computer the screen jumps around and it says 'detecting signal', settles on 640x480 during boot When windows 7 starts to open it jumps again for a moment and goes to 1366x768 (the right setting for it) I was playing Metro 2033 and its too slow in 1366 so I reduced it to 1024x768 which apparently the TV cant do, it just went black, so it reset to 1366. I was trying various resolutions, some were too wide too skinny etc and accidentally clicked on 1024 again, screen went black and this time didnt revert. I restarted my computer and now after the 640 phase in boot it doesnt go to 1366 like it should but at the opening to windows 7 where you put in your password it switches to 1024, after it jumps to adjust a few times it goes black like in the game.. it tells me detecting signal (normal) then no signal detected (which is what it tells me if I have it on say component 1 with my xbox 360 turned off, or video 1 with my dvd player off, or even VGA with the computer off for that matter)

What Ive tried:
I tried turning the monitor off and on to see if I could adjust the settings back while it was adjusting before going black, but it just stays black...

I started up in safe mode, which was 800x600 and it was ugly but worked, I tried resetting the resolution but it only gave the base options (640, 800, 1024, 1280) and that was only for safe mode, it didnt hold when I ... Read more

A:monitor resolution issue - can I change my resolution from outside windows??

does the Nvidia card have any software which could manage screen resolutions? If so you can try that in safe mode....

Also, tap F8 on startup, but instead of safe mode chose "enable VGA mode" which should cause windows to boot normally, but in 800x600 (or something of the like, that just about all monitors and TV's support)

I have a Sceptre 32-Inch LCD TV (X322BV) and I use an ASUS GeForce 440 video card. I am connected to the TV using a top of the line HDMI cable that has ethernet built in. I was using this cable to connect my computer to the TV and it displayed fine at 1360x768. This was great for my games and all other programs I was using. I attempted to install a new game called Metro 2033 and when I launched the game, it must have detected that my system is really good and set to display the resolution in 1080p. Now my TV does not support this display and now won't show anything except in safe mode, where the resolution is set to 1024x768. I am just not sure of how to get the computer to now NOT display in 1080p when I boot up windows normally. I have tried using the F8 menu to reset the resolution and everything. I am a competent computer tech who has much knowledge. However, I am just not sure how to change a resolution when you can't even see the screen and you can't see the screen because you can't change the resolution. It's a catch-22. I will never understand engineers or programmers in the least. PLEASE HELP! I have even hooked it up to a 1080p TV and turned the resolution down but when I hook it back up to the 720p TV the settings are still set at 1080p for some reason. It's like whatever display it's connected to, that's what settings it's going to use automatically. I am just out of options except for a re-format. PLEASE HELP!

A:Resolution stuck at 1080p; Resolution changed by game

Before I re-install the OS I would try this:
Boot up in Safe Mode and log in with an Admin account.
Uninstall the Device and Driver for the Video Card (see link below).
Re-boot in Normal mode, and Windows should detect and re-install the device.
Go from there to update the driver as needed.

If that one game is the problem, I'd uninstall it or search for answers how to configure it to not cause the problem.

I also suggest learning System Backup Imaging, so going forward you can easily recover from problems without re-installing the OS and all programs.

Hi. I'm new here and this is my first post. I looked around a little and found one other thread with a similar question, but the question wasn't really answered. I can't find anything on the net that doesn't confuse me so bad it makes my head hurt, so I thought I'd try asking here. Thanks in advance for any answers I get.

I will try and be as thorough as possible, although the resulting question will be simple. I'll start out with why I am asking the question to begin with.

So I am trying to play a game I used to play nearly ten years ago. It's a free online game called Continuum/Subspace and there are user created "zones" or variations of the game within the game (if that makes sense). I play in a zone called Trench Wars. It's a top down game, meaning you are looking down at your ship as if from above and the screen scrolls as you move to reveal more of the area (map) you are playing in. You are in a spaceship of your choice with varying weapons for each ship. The game requires aiming at your enemies before firing at them and anticipating their moves.

Well I noticed that playing at a higher resolution allows you to see more of your immediate area and expands your view of the map. It works just like your desktop in essence. The higher the resolution, the smaller the icons, but the more space you have. In the game, the higher the resolution, the smaller the ships are, but you can see more space around you. Obviously, this would give an advantage to anyone playing ... Read more

A:Forcing Screen Resolution Higher Than Native Resolution

Simple answer is: you can not go over the native resolution of LCD panel because its physical thing for each pixel lcd panel has a cell you can not have more pixels than there is physical pixels in that panel.

smaller than native resolutions achieved by grouping more than one cell to form pixel thats why non native resolution on lcd sometimes gets blurry or edgy

Native Resolution for my monitor is 1366 x 768. It's a 32 inch computer monitor. The reason for buying bigger screen for the computer is so that I can have more desktop display area so that I don't have to scroll horizontally to have a clear helicopter view of my subject.

Only then I was made to understand that I am actually restricted by the monitor resolution and hence though my graphic card can support higher resolution, it won't work. So my problem right now is setting the graphic card with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 is giving me blurry images and text. The desktop display area is wide enough to satisfy my need but the blurring object is not acceptable.

My general question would be:
If the graphic card higher resolution doesn't help because it does not match the monitor, is there any smart software that can give me more desktop area with clarity given that resolution constraint? What other alternatives do I have without getting rid of my new monitor?

A:Graphic Card Resolution > Monitor Resolution

What graphics card do you have? Sounds like it is not powerful enough to fill the resolution you are looking for.

things ive checked so far:
nvidia settings ressolution tab: converted it to 1920 x 1080, 1080p

so again, there are no differences between the two when i hooked them up, can anybody tell me any steps to make my display HD?

A:HD Resolution & Analog Resolution: they display the same output

Is it running at 1920 x 1080 ?

Why do you think you would see a difference ? VGA is analog and DVI is digital, that`s it, as far as I know.

This problem started happening about a week ago and I've never had a problem like this before. The problem is that often (but not always) when I start a game, it goes into full screen and it will usually change the resolution like mosts games do, except when I either exit the game normally, or alt+tab out of it, the resolution does not change back to normal. I have my desktop resolution set at 1024x768 normally. This seems to hold true for almost all my games. Even the windows screensaver causes the same problem if it changes the resolution.

After this happens, if I go into display properties and try to change any settings whether it is resolutuon, color depth, or even the refresh rate. I get an error that says it can't be done and I probably don't have administrative rights. The only way to fix it is to reboot the computer.

My graphics card is a Nvidia GeForce4 MX 420. Around when the probelms started I updated the drivers to some beta drivers from the Nvidia site. I assumed those might be the cause so I downgraded to the latest official foreceware drivers which I had installed before. The only other things I can think of that I have installed before the problem occoured was the new Microsoft Anti-spyware but I doubt that would have caused it.

Does anyone have any idea what is causing this problem? I am out of ideas...

I was looking at the specs of a GTX680 and it is a smaller card than the 670. It is not as long and it only covers 2 slots were the 670 covers 3. Will the 680 fit an Alienware X51?

A:GTX 680 fit Alienware x51

The top X51 on dell.com/alienware comes with a 670, so YES appears to be the answer, although I don't know if case size changes or not from the 4 different X51 models, for 100% certainty I would call and ask them.

Only other concern is the 680 is 25 more watts then the 670, as they appear to be putting pretty weak PSU's on those systems to cut corners.

So I'm going to help a friend build a computer and in return he gave me an old alienware from about 2003, 2004 with an Asus motherboard, an athlon xp, and a geforce fx 5900. All it had was a bad hardrive so I switched that out for a pair of 40 gb seagate sata drives to raid 0. I also added an extra gig of ddr lying around. I have never used raid before so this was my first time. After setting up raid 0 I proceeded with installing windows 8 consumer preview. During the setup it couldn't detect the hard disk and asked for drivers. Well since I had no idea where I would find drivers for a raid controller for a 9 year old motherboard for an un- realeased os I made the decision to turn it into a linux machine. I pulled out my 32 bit copy of ubuntu 11.10 and installed it. It picked up the array and I installed it onto that. When it was finished I proceeded to boot into the os but was unable too when I picked the boot device as hd 0. I was unable to boot and tried all the hd boot devices. So after a long day my question is. How do I boot off my raid array?
