I have an alienware 14 and have received the new gears of war 4 as a gift, it says that I have to have
2GB minimum video memory and recommends 4GB video memory and that I do not meet either of these requirements. how can I solve this problem. any help will be appreciated and as you can tell by my terminology I'm not very computer literate.

My main uses are multimedia works, graphic designs & video editing etc.. i never thought about gaming, coz i already have x360 & ps3
but i wanted to know my laptop's ability to run games
so i went to: systemrequirementslab website and tried some like
crysis 2, nfs hot pursuit, ac: brotherhood.. all met the requirements
with the green bar full.
(look at the small line near the "fast" icon, which means almost full)
but when it came to battlefield bad company 2 vietnam, wierd thing happened!

what??
required 512, mine is 1GB (or 2.7 as they show)
required ATI Radeon HD 4870, mine is 5470

what do u think?
i think they're wrong coz even their info about my laptop is wrong
(video ram & graphic card info are not true).

A:How come my graphic card doesn't meet the recommended requirements?

So this morning I woke up to a forced password change. I tried the same password and it didn't take, doesn't meet security requirements. After a few tries fighting with it, I gave in so that I could log into my computer. Checked the local security policy, the only requirement was set to save for 42 days before expiration. I changed that to 0, tried to manually reset and it still refuses.

Setup: Custom build, Windows 10 pro, completely up to date, local account (signing into apps only with MS account).

Please see attached screenshots.

I used my service tag in "I'm looking for drivers and downloads" and filter which is compatible under Windows XP. but when i downloaded the file and run, its always encountering "This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software". I've checked my OS and its updated. Why ?
I tried also to choose a model which is similar to my Inspiron Desktop 530 and download the video controller, unfornatunately no match and compatible on my video. Anyone can help me on this?
Thanks in advance,
Day

A:My Computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the video controller

What is the actual video driver file you downloaded? Did your 530 come with XP or did you install XP yourself?  If your 530 came with Vista, for example, then the Dell download listing based on your sevice tag will have Vista drivers.   Also what video is installed in your 530.  If you don't know, download the free Belarc Advisor and run that and it will list what Video you have.   www.belarc.com

Dear All,

I hope this is the correct forum to ask this question - if not can a Mod move it to the appropriate place?

I have fixed a colleague's laptop. It was running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit with 1Gb memory and I gather that it prefers at least 2Gb.

Given that it is running with 1Gb (which I guess is the minimum), what is the recommended amount of memory for a Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit installation?

Thanks in advance

hi i get constant fps lagg on most games i play ill give a list later on, i recently reformatted from windows 7 ultimate to windows xp, before when i was on W7 the lagg was there but playable, now its unplayable, the reason i down graded was that i only had 2 gb of ram on windows 7 and it just wasnt enough, when i first bought my pc i had bucket loads of fps on max settings on any game i wanted, ill give a list of before and after.

before: - brand new

CSS: 300+ max settings
crysis: 30-80 ultra settings 60-130 high
starcraft2: like 100+ constant
wow: 120+ max settings
dead island: 150+
hon: 100+
league of legends: 150+ max settings

after+reformat+windows XP

Dead island: 60-90 max settings strange how i get ok fps on this and bad on others right?
Star craft 2: 1-10 lowest settings
League of legends: 10-20 lowest settings?? i mean cmon that's gotta be a joke right?
hon: 20-40 low

there the only games i have after the reformat.

i have no idea whats up with it so i ran some tests:

PRIME95: no errors after 5 hours so gave up
FURMARK: scored 18 fps
checked drivers with GPU-z and its the latest version
checked tempratures and there fine 42 degrees with fan on 30%
cpu temp is around 60+ but i dont know as i cannot hold my finger on it for less then a second or it will melt it off so maybe that's overheating? dunno, has always been like that tho

that's all i could think of

...are the minumum requirements for a game realistic or over blown...?? i picked up enter the matrix the other day and the requirements for it are atleast a 800mhz with a geforce 256 card... i have a plll 700mhz with a geforce 256 and 256 megs of memory.. and the game plays fine.. at most it gets a little choppy when fighting more then 2-3 bad guys....just womdering..??

A:minumum requirements of games...

Well, they're usually slightly higher than what you actually need, but thats just so people can't complain when their 700mhz gets a bit choppy. It's usually the minimum requirements to get completely smooth gameplay.

I was just wondering, what does "Minimum Requirements" mean exactly? I know what it means, but I don't think that I completely understand it. Does it mean that if you have the bare minimum requirements for the game, that the game will play, but not exactly the way you might expect, or does it mean that the game will play ok, but it just won't have all the special effects, etc. that it could if you had the recommended requirements? I'm referring to GTA3, because that's where I had the problem. The minimum reqs. for GTA3 are a 500MHZ processor, 96 MB of RAM, a 16MB video card, etc. Now, I have a 556 MHZ celeron, 320MB Ram, and no video card (onboard video). And GTA3 still plays very slowly! I thought that since I have all this RAM, and my processor is a little faster than the minimum requirements, that it should play fine. So, is this how it's supposed to play?

A:Minimum Requirements for Games -- what does this mean?

You do have a video card if it is on the motherboard. It is probably still slow because you do not have 16MB of memory on your video for one thing. The requirements are "minimum" and there are normally a prefered configuration listed on the game as well or optimal game play.

anyways, found a nice little website to see if you can play a specific game on your system. i know you can check the game website for minimum requirements and all but for the lazy ones like me, just in couple of clicks you can see if your computer is good for the game. another thing that was handy to me was that it shows the minimum requirements of a game and you system specs on a bar from worst to best, gives me an idea if i can push the in-game settings to maximum or not ie. graphics =)

Like if I had 2.0 GHz with one core, I would meet the requirements. But in the case of 2 cores with less GHz, I'm not sure.

Sorry if this is a real newb questions but I can't seem to find an answer. If I look at the back of the box of Supreme Commander for example it recommends that you use a 3.0 GHz Intel or equivalent AMD processor or better to run it.

If I'm running a 2.4 Duo Extreme Processor, what does that mean to me? I can't seem to find a game where it lists the minimum requirement for a duo processor. Only Intel P4's. I realize the Duo Extreme's are faster but how do I make the comparison?

I've been having issues with City of Heroes and City of Villans for awhile now... not sure how long but I see to remember when I got the games running them in "recommended mode, but now... If I run with the settings to "Performance" everything is fine, except one area I have to put it down to Basic when I am there. Thing is, as near as I can tell, I should be able to run on RECOMMENDED, as I would think I exceed the Recommended specs for the game, but maybe I don't? They've not done any graphics changes that would increase the system requirements.

SO, the game's RECOMMENDED Specs are as follows....

Microsoft Windows 2000/XP * Intel Pentium 4 2.0 Ghz or AMD Athlon XP 2000+
1GB RAM * DVD-ROM Drive * 4 GB Available HDD Space * NVidia GeForce 6200
16-bit Sound Card * Broadband Internet Connection * Direct X 9.0 * Keyboard and mouse.

So, what I am not sure about is my processor and video card.

What I have according to the system properties window is as follows..

AMD Turion(tm) 64 X2 Mobile
Technology TL-50
1.61Ghz 960 MB of RAM
Physical Adress Extension

and my video card is a Nvidia GeForce Go 6150.

I know both cores are running because I even followed the forum instructions on how to force it on, even though it's been on by default for about a year now.

Hiya. I got a new PC (Asus S550CM-CJ119H W8 UB TOUCH) with these specs:

GPU: GeForce GT 635M
CPU: Intel Core i5 3337U CPU @ 1.8 GHz
Memory: 8.00 GB RAM (7.98 Usable)
Current Resolution: 1366 x 768, 60Hz
Driver Version: 331.82
Operating System: Windows 8.1

My problem is, even though my computer reaches standard requirements for games like Payday 2, Skyrim, etc it lags a lot! I can only get a solid 9 FPS in Minecraft on the lowest settings. Even my 12 year old windows XP desktop has a solid 20.

I just want to know why it's doing this.

I have no huge programs running in the backround that would use up all the CPU usage. It's only at about 13 percent whenever I load up a game.

Please help!

I recently bought the HP Officejet 6210xi all-in-one. When I try to install the CD that came with it on my desktop I get a message saying the minimum required processor speed is 233 mhz, current processor speed is 232 mhz.

I have a Pentium II 233 mhz processor running W2K. I know it’s really old. I have a wireless LAN setup with a newer laptop running WXP. But, I’d like to install the all-in-one on my desktop rather that on my laptop. When I called HP tech support they said they can’t help. That I would have to install it on another PC.

First, why does the printer detect my processor speed as 232 when it’s really 233.
Second, is there a work around?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

I'm considering upgrading from XP (SP 3) to Windows 7. Read the requirements and seem to meet them all except I'm not sure about the graphics. Computer is just shy of five years old. It has Pentium CPU @ 3 GHz, 2 GB RAM, 260+ GB of free hd space. Graphics card is GeForce 7300 LE, DirectX ver 9.0c. Don't know how to tell if driver is WDDM 1.0 or higher.

Two questions:
1) How can I tell if my graphics card/driver meet or exceed the minimum? and
2) If so, is this upgrade advisable, given the age of my system?

Can't help wondering how much longer Microsoft will continue to support XP and how much longer new software will run on it...

Here is the Definition of this policy:
Password must meet complexity requirements

This security setting determines whether passwords must meet complexity requirements.

If this policy is enabled, passwords must meet the following minimum requirements:

Not contain the user's account name or parts of the user's full name that exceed two consecutive characters
Be at least six characters in length
Contain characters from three of the following four categories:
English uppercase characters (A through Z)
English lowercase characters (a through z)
Base 10 digits (0 through 9)
Non-alphabetic characters (for example, !, $, #, %)
Complexity requirements are enforced when passwords are changed or created.
I have been asked to require 4 out of the 5 is there anyway to do this with GPO or Registry Hack?  I would rather not buy a tool to do this... Thoughts?

Sorry, the Password must meet complexity requirements policy setting is not stored in the form of a registry key. But that doesn't mean you can't manipulate this setting through a command.

This article describes how one can use MMC to create a configuration file that can be interpreted by the SecEdit command. Group policies as well as registry key permissions can be set using this method.

I have an HP Pavilion G6, which I upgraded to Windows 8. Here are the specs for the system:

HP Pavilion g6-1c74ca Notebook PC Product Specifications | HP? Support

When I upgraded I noticed some fps (frames per second) drop and ping rise on one of my favourite games, Ace of Spades. This game is remarkably simple, and as the developers put it "your grandmother's rig could run this game". Before the upgrade, the game ran fine. After, the fps decrease and ping increase led me to believe the graphics(fps)/network(ping) drivers might be to blame, so I went to the HP site to download the updated Windows 8 graphics and network drivers, link here:

Software & Driver Downloads HP Pavilion g6-1c74ca Notebook PC | HP? Support

When I tried to install them, I got this message for both:
"this computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software"

2 questions:
1) Why would hp supply a driver on its sight that can't be installed on the system that has a page of these drivers dedicated to it?
2) I did some googleing into possible causes. One possibility was not having the right .NET framework installed. I checked, and do have the correct version. I also updated my BIOS, in case that was the culprit. What might be the problem here?

A:this computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing...

There are two sets of drivers available at the link that you provide: one for machines with only the Intel graphics, the other for systems with switchable Intel/AMD graphics. You'd lose a lot of graphics performance if you had a switchable system and only had the Intel drivers installed.

I see no clear indication on the page as to which machines have the switchable package.

If you know that you have the switchable graphics option, I suggest uninstalling the Intel graphics drivers, and installing the AMD package (which is also supposed to include Intel drivers).

I have no personal experience with switchable graphics, so I haven't faced that issue. I don't know how to tell for sure whether the AMD controller is present. (Device manager?) Let us know whether it works out.

I am wondering if any of you have installed Win8 without satisfying "the official requirements," and, if so, what your experience has been having done so. I did it on a, I guess, 6-year old HP Pavilion lappy (2.2 GHz processor and 2 GB RAM), and the results have been definitely good enough. I have a couple of more or less minor problems, but others are experiencing the same ones even they they met the official requirements. Even the two GB of RAM is OK since I am not doing anything remotely demanding.

I have attached, via two pngs, my "Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant Report" FYI. Note that I ran the assistant after doing the upgrade so it shows that I am running Win8 already. Note that two items are duplicated towards the middle of the report because of my carelessness.

I also wondering what I am missing by not having the UEFI interface. I don't perceive that I need to change any related settings. Action Center alerted me to an updated driver for my card reader. I did the update. And, the assistant report indicated that I needed an app to play DVDs. So, I got the free Media Center download. The only other thing I had to do (because I hate tap to select) was to get, from HP, a Vista driver (probably updated from the original) for my touchpad. I had to do the same when upgrading from Vista to Win7 on the same machine.

A:Installing Win8 When not Meeting the Requirements

I actually would like to know this too. I believe I might be installing Windows 8 on an IBM ThinkPad T42, with a Celeron processor if I remember correctly. I don't believe it had PAE support.

So, I just put in my new Nvidia GeForce 8500 GT and booted up a game, just to check out the framerate (which was awesome). After about 20 minutes, I glanced at the box my card game in, and though "Crap, forgot to check my PSU." So, I popped open my case and found that my PSU is 305 Watts - my graphics card says its minimum is "350 Watt or greater power supply."

First, yes, I am going to get a 400 Watt PSU within 2 months (hopefully).

So, the question is: What happens if my PSU does not meet the minimum requirements for my graphics card (its low by 45 Watts)? I've tried to do my research and find out for myself, but I've seen answers go from "Oh, its just not the best thing to do - its okay though," to "You will burn in a fiery hell-storm and God Himself will crush your computer."

Thanks in advance

EDIT: Yeah, I know this isn't the best card for gaming, but I got it for about $22 New on eBay

When Nvidia disappeared from Windows and Mint as well, I just did a fresh install of Windows and deleted the Linux partitions, and now I can't install them. I just reinstalled professional and no luck. Same issue. I should also mention the wireless driver isn't installing this time around (or last). Intel had to be installed first last time, but now it says it doesn't meet minimum requirements and I know it's the same one because I saved the drivers.

Hi lksh,
Thank you for writing to the Dell Community Forum.
Please check the windows 7 version you have installed, whether it is a (32bit or a 64bit) OS. There are drivers available only for the 64bit version, also check the system specifications to install the right drivers using the below links.

Hi!

I need a cell to accept only data that meet the following criteria:
1. the first 9 characters should be composed of numbers only
2. the 10th character should either be a letter or the number zero (0).

If they don't meet both of the requirements, I need for an alert box to pop up informing them of the requirement they failed to meet.

How do I do this?

Is it possible to do this purely with an in-cell formula and formatting/data validation?

I brought down the res and put into windowed mode and I still have this problem on most maps. I changed some settings too.

Hey guys,

My dad recently bought a HP Windows 8 laptop but can't get used to the new OS. He asked me to install Windows 7 on it for him. I'm currently trying to get the drivers sorted for it and for the Windows drivers such as Chipset and Graphics, i'm getting the error "This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software" which doesn't make sense as the specs of the laptop are:

Win 7 Ultimate X64
6GB Ram
1TB HDD
Intel Core i5-4200U 1.60 GHz
Intel HD GFX

I can't get the drivers of the manufacturers website since they are all of course Windows 8 drivers.

What do i do to fix this??

Video file on my hard disk. so for 24 hours of continuos recording how big my hard disk should be? which parameters i have to think about it?i heard frame rate, size of the frame(like half of the PAL resolution ), resolution of pixels(like 24 bit RGB etc) and compression methods one should keep in mind.is it correct? is there any calculator available that i give the required parameters and i get the final size of memory for N hours. or i would like to know if i record with certain parameters how much time or how much hard disk memory is needed.

Was reading that the requirements for Win 7 are 2 gigs of RAM so it would seem that I'm fine, however, my mobo is going to use 512 megs for its onboard video.

I had a helluva time struggling with getting my computer updated from the original build of Win10 (the 10240 RTM release) to the Anniversary Update (1607), to the point where it just would not happen, no matter what I tried. My computer was running the original release just fine. No crashes. No bizarre behavior (other than typing in Internet Explorer text fields being peculiarly slow in response). But what I was able to do was update my computer to version 1511, O/S build 10586.589. This is the build just prior to the AU 1607. It is installed, and I'm running just fine.

A Microsoft MVP tech had struggled to help me with my inquiries over on the Microsoft community... it was painful. He kept jumping to conclusions and wouldn't hear me out fully. I documented my struggles, and my success to 1511. He's now telling me that I should see the AU 1607 being offered to me when doing a manual check in Windows Update. Well, I don't. And he's of the opinion that if I'm not seeing it, that Windows has determined that my computer may not be compatible.

What?

Now, I'm running version 1511, build 10586.589 just fine. If the Win10 installer determined that my computer wasn't capable of running Win10, it would not have installed and would have informed me upfront, or failed miserably later on with no usable clue as to why. That did not happen.

So my question is this -- Was there ANY kind of hardware requirements change with the AU 1607 that might cause a computer already runni... Read more

I'm using XP/SP3 and Hercules Deluxe Glass Webcam on Skype. Picture on receiving end is very pixelated/grainy, almost unusable. Reasons presumably include innate webcam quality and variabilities of Skype transmission. Skype also says that CPU must be at least 2.5 Ghz (mine is 1.8 Ghz). Does that make sense? I'm surprised there would be such degradation at 1.8....don't other folks run webcams at less than 2.5? I'm hesitant to buy a better webcam if that 2.5 is real.

Anyone know what are the hardware/protocol requirements to use the Windows 10 "cast to device" feature, from within the Edge browser and/or the context menu? I've got an older Roku and older laptop, and the Windows 10 DLNA server works just fine with Roku Media Player as as the playback-initiating client. But attempting to initiate video playback from the laptop, using "cast to device" in Edge, does nothing. Acts like it's looking for a device to connect to, but then times out.

This laptop does NOT support WiDi or Miracast, but I've read unofficial commentary that Windows 10 casting can use simple DLNA. I've not, however, been able to find any official statement on what is required for casting to work. Anyone have this information?

I am using a Toshiba Satellite w/Celeron, 1.5GHZ, 512 RAM, 64mb on video card. I am trying to capture video using my Elura digital video camera, with both Windows Movie Maker and Studio Pinnacle.

I get to about 8 minutes of capture, and then the video stops recording, and the program either freezes or just sits there and will not capture any more. It happens both with Studio and also with WMM, so I don't think it's program-dependent.

All I want to do is basic video editing; in this case, I'm just capturing digital video for storage on my HD.

Is my system capable of doing this....? Is there some reason I'm having trouble that might be ovious? What are the minimum requirements, realistically, for video capture...?

I'm fairly computer savvy, but I've never understood how to compare requirements for Video/Graphics Cards.

Basically I'm buying a new laptop that I will use for gaming:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Toshiba+-+Satellite+Laptop+with+Intel%26%23174%3B+Core%26%23153%3B+i3+Processor+-+Quantum+Black/9703393.p?id=1218153394199&skuId=9703393#tabbed-customerreviews

It says it has:
Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator HD
With 32-1696MB dynamically allocated shared graphics memory for lush images. HDMI-CEC port for connection to an HDTV. Built-in Harman/Kardon stereo speakers with Dolby Sound Room support.
Now the games I'll play have the following requirements:

1. 128 MB NVidia GeForce 6600 GT/ATI Radeon 9800 PRO video card

2. Minimum - 3D graphics processor with Hardware Transform and Lighting with 32 MB VRAM (such as an ATI Radeon 7200 or NVIDIA GeForce 2 class card or better) — Recommended - 3D graphics processor with Vertex and Pixel Shader capability with 128 MB VRAM (such as an ATI Radeon X1600 or NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT class card or better)

Will the Laptop I'm looking at be ok for these game requirements? Will I be able to run the graphics settings on high?

A:Minimum System Requirements For Video Editing/burning

Hi there MightyMing if you want to do some good video editing and stuff the best stuff to get would probably be a Pentium 4 processor and good 1 or 2 gigs of ram and good video card such as All-in-Wonder 2006 Edition or the NVIDIA GeForce 6800 both of these run on the new PCI Express port on the motherboard so make sure you have the right motherboard. And if you want to look like a real professional get the USB Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Video Editor. And I highly suggest a TV Tuner.

So when I play games I meet the minimum AND recommended specs most of the time (I check using http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri/), yet when I actually play the game I have to run everything on low, and sometimes that doesn't even work.

I had problems earlier with random, terrible lag just in any application earlier, but I fixed that by cleaning out the fans in my CPU. I still have problems with even more extensive lag when I look at smoke particles in games.

I think that it might be website not being correct, because here are my specs

"OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium , 64 bit
Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) II X4 620 Processor, AMD64 Family 16 Model 5 Stepping 2
Processor Count: 4
RAM: 5887 Mb
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce 9100, 256 Mb
Hard Drives: C: Total - 598084 MB, Free - 192212 MB; D: Total - 12292 MB, Free - 2232 MB;
Motherboard: PEGATRON CORPORATION, VIOLET, 3.02, 101270380004365"
Antivirus: None"

The NVIDIA GeForce 9100 is an integrated graphics card, and I know those are terrible for gaming, but the website says that I pass both the minimum tests and recommended tests for the games I checked (Half Life 2, Team Fortress 2, Left 4 Dead 2, Empire Total War, Alien Swarm), so what is the problem?

I recently rented a pc game and it wouldn't play because my video card wasn't compatible and not good enough. Here are the system requirements for the game:

REQUIRED SYSTEM SPEC:

· Microsoft® Windows® XP
· PC with 1.6 Ghz equivalent or higher processor
· 256 MB of system RAM
· 512 MB of system RAM for online play with 3 or more players
· 6 GB available hard disk space
· 8x speed or faster CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM drive (for the

· 64 MB GeForce3-class video card. The game only officially supports
cards with ATI (Radeon 8500 or greater) and Nvidia chipsets, and

· Sound card with speakers or headphones
· Microsoft Mouse or compatible pointing device
· 56.6 Kbps or better modem for 1v1 online play
· Broadband connection for online play with 3 or more players
· DirectX 9.0c or above

Please note that while you will be able to play The Battle for
Middle-earth(tm) II with the specifications above, play experience can
benefit from additional RAM, above the required 256 MB.

I just got my new HP HDX and surprisingly it has Vista 64 preinstalled on it (surprising because it didn't mention 64 bit anywhere in the description). I have a few questions regarding Vista 64.

Obviously all the drivers that came with it must be 64 bit but does all software I want to install on this have to be a 64 Bit version?

Or is it that 32 bit software will run as long as all drivers are 64 bit?

Will MS provide a 32 bit version if I request it?

Thanks!

Most of Win 32 bit applications should run under Vista x64 without problems.
That is theory. In real life many programs still have some compatibility issues and some does not run at all under x64.

Have finally got an oldish Compaq SR5540AN sorted out - RAM was shot in one stick and I think the onboard graphics is dead however a spare HD 5450 (silent) card has got me back the graphics.

Now I am thinking maybe I can just update the driver for the on board but the Vista on the HDD is trashed and although I have it running in Ubuntu I cannot download the NVidia driver.

So if my mate can afford it I shall stick on 7 now as he is short on cash I have only been able to get 3GB RAM back in will the 64 bit OEM work with that much? I have tried Googling but I know I can get a decent and succinct answer here. Then I can download that driver and maybe save the cost of the HD 5450.

He is only a casual browser (Ebay Facebook etc) and emailer so no heavy gaming and I would prefer to flip in the 64bit if possible.

I think this machine is worth saving as it is running like lightning in Ubuntu

Depends on the client software for Win98 or the SP level of XP. XP does support both is it has the correct updates.

I am looking at pc's to find one that will cope with the Sims 2. As I know little about pc's I would like to know if the game can run on a DVD or a CD-RW ROM? The game is a CD version. Also in reguards to video cards, would a 128mg Geforce 4 MX4000L ASP video card work? The prossessor is 1.7GHZ with 512 MB RAM AND 80gb HD or a Radeon highend P4 video card with a 2.8 GHZ prossessor with 512 RAM? Thanks for your help.

The wife plays sims2 on her laptop which is a celeron 1.8ghz with 512mb ram 20gb hdd and a lowly ATI M9000 @ 1024x768 without problems.

In answer to your questions, the game will install and run from either a DVD or CD-Rom drive, a 128mb Gforce4 MX card will be ok, the processor speeds you mentioned are both ok. So really the choice is yours, but faster is always better

hey guys.

ive got a pretty good idea on most things to do with dekstop pc hardware except PSU's.

I was wondering what sort of power i would need to power this hardware

3200+ AMD64 Venice (Oc 2.6/2.7)
Kingston 2x512mb 3200/400mhz ram
1x200gb hd
1x120gb hd
1xdvd burner
1xdfi LanParty UT nF4 Ultra-D
1x6800GT PCI-E (Potentially upgrading to 2 in SLI at a later date)

Probably going to be adding a few more hard drives later. I dont understand how you determine the power usage of components, nor the power output of PSU's so i really have no idea what a suitable unit for my system is.

If somebody could point me in the right direction i would really appreciate it.

I am interested in this brand of external HDD enclosures:
http://www.g-technology.com/Products/G-DRIVE-mini.cfm

I am specifically interested in the BUS powered capability of them so I can use just one cable to connect to the PC. There is a note on the page that says that someolder PC's don't have enough BUS power to power up the units. My PC's are about 3 years old USB2.0 DELL Precision Workstations 530 and 650. How would I find out the BUS power output from these machines and what is needed to run the drives?

Thanks.

A:Bus Power Requirements

A 3 yr old Dell desktop will most likely have plenty of power to run if Windows 2000 or XP
on one of those drives. Make sure that when you go into Control panel, Ssystem, hardware, Device manager that if you open usb controllers on bottom, one of them has usb enhanced or usb enhanced 2.0 listed. if not click update driver if you are at least SP1 or higher or Sp4 for 2000 ,a nd it should add the driver in. otherwise you would, need a usb 2.0 pci card because it would be slow as mud to transfer. Personally I use firewire, far less problems.

Do you think my laptop 1.7 ghz dualcore processor and 2 gig ddr2 ram will handle windows 7 professional?

It runs great on all of my pcs, but the specs are much greater all around there.

Any advice? How much system ram does 7 take during idle? Also, you think 1.7 dualcore is too slow?

Any suggestions or advise would be appreciated!

Tomorrow, I am going to interview for a position with my college's "Geek Squad." I am pretty good at fixing computers (basic hardware upgrades, virus removal, SEVERE virus removal, getting things to work through settings, drivers, etc.) but I usually just try it, then google it, then try it so I don't know a lot of tricks right off the top of my head besides restarting the computer (which is almost always the first step to troubleshooting). What are some troubleshooting methods they may ask me to perform off the top of my head to prove I'm qualified for this job? If you're not sure, I could still use a few tips to make sure I SOUND knowledgeable (I'm confidant in my ability to do the job, I just want to know how to accurately convey that to my prospective employer). Thanks so much.

A:Troubleshooting job requirements

Booting issues how to diagnose and fix mbr, bootloader, boot sector, also XP recovery console and Windows vista/7 RE. HDD chkdsk /f /r

Memory (RAM) test, over heating issues, hardware issues drivers BOSD diagnose and analyzing. Networking & internet troubleshooting using Ipconfig routers, modems, Windows DCHP, tcp/ip and other protocols.

These are just a few. Perhaps others can come up with more.

A:Arma 3 Requirements help

Hi bkjummpan23,

You have listed the minimum and recommended but I have no idea what you're running, could you provide your specs please. If you don't know what hardware you're running then you can use this to find out: http://static.techguy.org/download/SysInfo.exe

ArmA 3 is VERY CPU heavy, being a military sim it performs so many more calculations than your typical game. I'd also go as far to say that Bohemia have a habit of not fleshing out their games properly to ensure they run perfectly. Lower quality hard drives also bottleneck performance on games of this size, so you may want to look in to a solid state drive.

I'll be able to give you more info when you provide your specs.

Regards,

When a software program states it requires a minimum of 1GB to operate well, does that [I]include[I] the RAM needed to run the operating system? For example, if I'm running a machine with 2GB of RAM, and the program requires at least 1GB, do I therefore need at least 3GB of RAM?

A:minimum requirements

All software, when run, resides in RAM. Most apps and games specify the minimum amount of RAM you need to install them and run. This amount includes RAM that the computer needs to do its own background work as well as to run the app. So if a program says it needs minimum 1gb to operate, it'll run fine on a system with 2gb. However, I would also pay attention to the "recommended" memory which would be the RAM required for optimal performance of the program.

Generally speaking, memory requirements are specified taking into account the requirements of the application, operating system, supporting software and files, and other running processes.

I have a Sandy bridge  Intel i5 processor with plenty of ram ,  just wondering if upgrading from Win 7 SP1 64 bit to Win 8.1 or Win 10 is worthwhile.

A:I wonder what will be the minimum requirements to run it .

You have ample power to do so.
I find that some of the processors that are below the Intel i3 processors, can have a bit of difficulty, in that they might hesitate here and there, but an i5 is the bomb and it can run just about anything.

Officially speaking, MSC says that these are the minimum requirements for 8.

Processor: 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster with support for PAE, NX, and SSE2 (more info)
RAM: 1 gigabyte (GB) (32-bit) or 2 GB (64-bit)
Hard disk space: 16 GB (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)
Graphics card: Microsoft DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM driver

Those specs are ridiculously low, as 20 gigs of hard drive is way too little for even the most bare naked standard installations, once you start using it, and 1 gig of ram is just as bad. It'll run on 2, buit it'll run a lot better with 4 gigs.
As for the processor, you can look for any CPU that scores over 2,000 on the Passmark CPU page, and you'll have ample power to handle any Windows system.

I'm finally bringing my home PC into this decade by installing Win7 Pro x64 this week. The current XP x86 installation has been having some bad problems the past couple of weeks, I think partly because of some malware I got a couple months back, and also partly because I was dual-booting XP and Win8 for a bit, and Win8 screwed it up bad to the point of the computer not being able to boot at all (no boot device found). Windows 8 is now completely gone and will NOT be coming back.

*edit* I posted about the problems I was having a couple of weeks ago here: http://www.eightforums.com/bsod-cras...r-failure.html

The system currently has some older hardware, which I'm planning on upgrading in the near future. It's currently running a Core2 Duo processor, Intel mobo, on-board graphics, 3GB RAM, 250GB boot drive and 1TB storage drive, DVD-RW and card reader, all powered by a relatively newer Antec EarthWatts 430W PSU. This PSU went in after an older Antec 450W PSU died.

So anyway, I'm planning on upgrading to the following components:
- i7 2600K 3.4 GHz
- Asus mobo with HDMI and 6 GB SATA connections
- 16GB Gskill Ripjaws DDR3-1600 RAM
- GeForce GTX 560 1GB GPU
- possibly a 128 GB SSD to replace the 250GB HDD (less than 40GB is currently in use for OS and apps)

I checked out the eXtreme Power Supply calculator and put in everything, and even said I would be running both HDD's plus a SSD (will probably only run the SSD and 1TB HDD), and it came up with 396 watts.

I typically k... Read more

A:Can someone confirm my PSU requirements please?

Just looking at Geforce GTX 560's, I can tell you most, if not all, recommend a 450 Watt power supply with two 6-pin power connectors. Unless you found some ultra-low-power-voodoo 560 video card, you need a beefier power supply.

Buy a 600+ Watt power supply with an 80+ Bronze or better rating and you'll be fine. I can recommend some if you want. Also, I just wanted to tell you that for about $30 more, you can go from a 1GB GTX 560 to a 2GB GTX 660.......both require 450 watts. Those new cards are A LOT less power hungry than last generation's Fermi based cards.

If you need advice on parts, don't be afraid to ask!

This is a general question for a specific situation. My computer is about three years old and only has a 2.2 Ghz P4 processor. I've upgraded to a gig of ram and I have a 256Mb video card, however it's only PCI as I don't have AGP or PCI-E slots. Needless to say it's enough to run most games on the lowest settings. I nearly had a heart attack when I read that the new Neverwinter Nights 2 game that I have been waiting for forever requires a 2.4 Ghz P4 processor. My question is: What will happen if I purchase this game and attempt to run it. Will it be slow and choppy or will it simply not work at all? My only other options are a new processor or a whole new computer. This I can't afford. Thanks for your help!

I need a new pc as the one we have is 11 years old and won't play the type of games my Grandson likes, ie strategy games like Total War, not the newer ones anyway. I have a quote for the following:

AMD Dual Core 3.2 GHZ CPU
Asrock N68 G53 MOBO
500 GB Hard Drive
3GB DDR3 Memory
22 x speed DVD-RW Drive
Windows 7 64 bit

with either

Radeon HD5450 1024MB DDR3

or

Radeon HD5770 1024MB GDDR5

Can anyone tell me if this would be good for these type of games and would the cheaper graphics card be enough or would I need the better one. Please keep it simple, I know absolutely nothing about this.

Was looking on play.com for GTA4 and found the minimum requirements:

Windows XP with SP3 / Vista with SP1
1.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.4GHz AMD Athlon X2 64 or equivalent
1GB RAM (1.5GB for Vista)
16GB HDD Space
256MB nVidia 7900, ATi X1900 or equivalent
DVD-ROM Drive
Internet connection required for installation and online play

They seem pretty steep for minimum, more of a recommended. Especially the graphic cards, the 7900 is still quite a high end DX9 card.

7900 is a 4 generation old graphics card. If you're running a graphics card that low you probably already experianced GTA4 on xbox360/ps3 the way it will look with that GPU. I could be wrong but I would not be inclined to say a 7900 with be maxing out the game. Hopefully thats the minimum and reccomended is at least only 3 generations ago. I want it to look ALOT better than the console versions.
