Hp envy won't charge or turn on

Q: Hp envy won't charge or turn on

Hp won't charge. This is an HP refurb and it has worked fine since I bought it in May, until recently when it suddenly stopped charging. I've checked the charging cable and there is no damage, likewise no damage to laptop input. I've tried it at several outlets in my home to assure it wasn't the issue. This model doesn't have an accessible battery. It is completely dead and will not power on. Should I order a replacement cable or take it in for new battery or repair??

A:Envy m6 won't charge

Hi, Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community!  Take a look at where the power plugs into the laptop.  If the power plug shows any of the silver (chrome) adapter, this is likely your problem. **DANGER** UNPLUG THE POWER FROM THE WALL POWER OUTLET BEFORE PROCEEDING! Unplug the adapter from the laptop and look into the hole in the center of the plug-in portion. You will probably need a flashlight. You will probably see that the center pin is bent to one side and is no longer in the center of the hole. To repair this.............. Straighten the outermost bend of a regularly sized paperclip (the 1 inch type) and then used a multi-tool to bend the tip (about 1/16th inch) to a 90 bend and then insert it into the center hole. After getting the tip behind the center pin, slowly pull the paperclip out. you have to repeat this several times and also had to GENTLY pry the tip back to the center of the hole with the tip of the bent paperclip. Now when you plug in the power plug it goes all the way in and the laptop once again charges while on. Hope this may help. Thanks. ****Click the White Kudos star to say thanks********Please mark Accept As Solution if it solves your problem****

I want my battery life to be at its best and hence was wondeing which would be the appropriate way to charge my laptop. Previously i had used used another HP laptop and since i used to always plug in the charger even when the charge is full, the battery soon became damaged. SO what is the best way to charge this laptop? should i always shut it down and charge it? or is it ok to charge it even when i am using it? Is there any benchmark as to which level i should charge the battery and then plug it off, like 80%?Please claify and suggest the best way to charge this laptop.

Hello, Okay, I am having some charging problems with my HP ENVY. My laptop won't charge as I am using it. It will charge but it only charges when the laptop is closed and sometimes if it's closed and turned off.  I'm not sure if this would be the battery or the powercord? Maybe something internally?  Key Points**Battery charging only works when lid is closed (sleep mode).** **If I close the lid and plug in the charger, the indicator light shows orange, and the battery will then proceed to charge to near full.** **If I open the lid prior to the orange light changing to white, the battery icon always says: __% available (plugged in, not charging).** **I tried losing the battery. I removed the battery and plugged in the AC adapter. I tried powering up the laptop and it doesn't power up**    I haven't replaced anything yet. I was hoping to find out if anyone has had this happen to them before. Thanks  Maggie

No. The newer HP Spectre which is just now hitting the market has the Skylake platform and includes USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 which is amazing and allows external monitors and charging through the USB-C port, but previous technology does not allow it.

Hi everyone, just to report I am facing exactly the same issue with the Envy X2 13-inch 2-in-1 (model 13-j020ca) I gave to my wife.It started happening a couple of weeks ago, without apparent root cause, but it seems related with the magnetic connector between tablet and keyboard.  After trying everything posted on this thread I finally gave up and I am considering to buy a cheaper Keyboard/Mouse combo (whatever option is better and reliable than paying an original keyboard replacement that probably will be failing like the many others around the world). What really grinds my gears (sorry BTW for the expression) is using my hard earned bucks, choosing and trusting a global and recognized brand like HP and not getting any official response about this issue. I live in Chile and when I contact local HP support they don't have any idea about this issue (perhaps they don't read their own HP Support forum). At the end of the day I have a half 2-in-1 Notebook which I can only use as a tablet. It's really annoying. I hope HP can give us an official explanation of this issue, in the meantime you guys keep up the good work and thanks for the advices given.

The battery for my hp envy ts 15 notebook won't hold a charge. It works fine when connected to the charger but when taken off, will shut down. I've ran a battery test through the HP support assistant and ran a components test. Each one states the battery is ok. But whenever I take it off the charger the battery, which states its at a decent charge, the laptop will instantly die. I also checked the battery number and it is not apart of the recall.

Can you take a screenshot of the battery test? Particularly how many cycles it has registered? And how old is the laptop and battery?

I have started having problems with the secondary battery on my HP Envy x2. I've had it for a couple of months now and to begin with everything was fine. A couple of weeks ago I began to have intermittent warnings when I turned on the Envy. It said that there was a problem with the calibration of the secondary battery and it needed callibrated or possibly replaced. The problem is that even though it says this it sometimes shows that the battery has successfully fully charged and sometimes it doesn't. It doesn't always appear to use the charge sitting in the secondary battery, this is intermittent too. I have been through the battery callibration procedures and although the battery again shows as 100% charge it still says the battery needs callibrated.

I have heard that HP has repaired some of the laptops like mine that have the faulty left hinge.  However, when I contacted them about fixing mine, I was told it would cost me $280!  This laptop cost $1,000.00 and I'm supposed to pay for a design flaw?  Yes, my laptop is out of warranty, but 99% of its life has been spent on a table without the lid being opened and closed anywhere near as much as most laptops. This is unacceptable.  I have to leave my laptop open now and have it in just the right position so that the display is not screwed up.  Do I really have to purchase from Dell now?

I have searched across this site and other forums and have yet to find a solid answer to this question even though numerous users are having the same issue. This keyboard has worked fine for me for about two years, but now all of a sudden it will not hold a charge.  Even after turning the keyboard off, plugging into the tablet for 24 hours, and then turning back on, the keyboard only works for about five minutes.   I can only assume that this is an issue with the power going from the tablet to the keyboard, but when trying to update any drivers related to batteries or the keyboard it says I already have the latest driver.  Please help because I'm essentially stuck with only using a tablet for a computer as of right now.

However, the battery doesn't lose charge while it's plugged in. It's like the computer is dependent upon the power cord and the battery is shot.  This is strange because I don't leave my laptop charging for long periods of time. Try another outlet.
Take out the battery and try it with the ac adapter\power cord plugged in.
Try another AC Adapter or Power Cord.

One of the two is probably faulty.

Not a sound or visibility of life. It's totally dead! The only led that lights up is the charge led, it turns green but does not charge the computer at all. I bought a Yoga 700 and after a couple of months it stopped charging and wouldn't turn on. When pressing the power button the light flashed amber a couple of times but that was it. I returned it for repair and the repair notes said the BIOS had been upgraded and it was working again. Unfortunately the person performing the repair sliced the top of the laptop with what looks to have been a Stanley knife but they didn't say anything. I returned it and got a replacement. Now, a few weeks later I have exactly the same symptoms with the new Yoga 700. Is this a known problem with the 700 because it seems too much of a coincidence? I'm probably just going to ask for my money back unless someone can tell me a quick fix? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,I'm really disappointed with my HP laptop which is not even a year old.It has hardly been used. I used it last night and it was fine. Today I plugged it in and tried to turn it on.. It was charging and the power button was flashing but it would not turn on.I left it charging for a while and then returned to try and turn it on. This time when I tried it made a strange noise as though it was literally dying and then suddenly the light behind the power button and the LED that indicates it's charging, both died out.I have tried taking the battery out, draining the residual energy, using it without a battery.... Nothing.I suspect it is a problem with the laptop as oppose to the charger as the laptop WAS charging, it just would not turn on.. And after the computer made the dying sound it will not light up at all.Help would be appreciated. I'm so frustrated as I desperately need to use my laptop right now for work and I am not in a position to buy a new one.

Last night I was using my laptop and out of nowhere my screen went blank but the machine stayed powered on. I rebooted and about 15 mins later the screen went blank again and the power turned off. I tried to turn it back on and it wouldn't respond. The charge indicator light won't respond either when I plug it in. The computer never told me the battery was running low either. I've tried plugging it in a few different outlets. Does this sound like a battery problem or something internal with the computer? The laptop is about 2 years old.

If it sounds like a battery, I'd have no problem buying a new one and trying it. If this sounds like an internal one though I don't want to waste my money on one and would like to put that towards a new one.

Thank you.

My laptop is just over a year old and is not heavily used. When trying to use it today, it turned off, despite being plugged in and now will not charge (no light comes on, even when connected to a power source). It looks from the forums as though this is a known issue. I'm really disappointed as it was an expensive product and should not fail after a year. Has anyone been able to resolve this?

Alright, so, my friend has a Zaio model pcg-61a12l laptop running on Windows 7. Earlier today we were at school trying to use it but it wouldn't turn on and she didn't have the charger. We just assumed it had died.
She took it home, and told me that she tried to plug in her laptop and it would not charge. The light on the charger is on, so it's not plugged into the wrong outlet or anything, but the laptop is not receiving any charge and is still not turning on.

She's freaking out because it's a pretty expensive laptop and doesn't want her father to get mad about it.

I asked if she had downloaded anything or banged it against something and she said she hasn't. That she had even tried taking the battery out and putting it back in and it still won't work.

Any ideas? It's hard because I don't have the laptop with me, I'm on the phone with her /: But I'll have it tomorrow if it's not working then, so any ideas will be MUCH appreciated.

She's only had the laptop for about a month

A:Computer won't turn on or Charge

Hey Elegiacxiii

Try these steps, this has proved helpful to many users having this problem.

1. Disconnect the AC Supply
2. Remove the battery
3. Connect the AC Adapter
4. Startup

IMPORTANT: Before you try out these remaining steps, be sure to create a restore point, lest some problem may creep in. (Go To Control Panel --> System and Security --> System --> System Protection (on the left pane) --> Create).

5. Open Device Manager
Under the Batteries category, right-click all of the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery listings, and select Uninstall (sometimes you may have only one, this is perfectly okay)
6. Shutdown your Vaio
7. Disconnect the AC Supply
8. Insert the battery
9. Connect the AC Adapter
10. Startup

IMPORTANT: If this doesn't work be sure to restore your system. (Go To Start --> Search System Restore --> Recommended restore --> Confirm)

Hope this resolves your problem, if it doesn't feel free to post it here. There are many more personnel who can help you solve your problem. Stay with us.

I'm not sure if I'm putting this in the right place, but I suppose it will work. I have an HP pavillion notebook that's a little over a year old. I was playing a game on it last night when the screen just went to black. It sat there with a black screen for about 10 minutes before I did a hard shut down. I tried to turn it back on about 20 minutes later, and it wouldn't turn on. Assuming it was dead, I plugged it in, but the charging light wouldn't light up. I'm really not sure what's going on, I've read some places it could be the mother board, or the charger needs to be replaced. My warranty conviently ran out in August, and it would be great to know what's wrong with it.

A:Laptop won't turn on or charge

Hi sklassen,

I saw your post regarding the computer not turning on. It could several things that are causing the problem; the motherboard, battery or power cord. I would start with a hard reset, remove both the battery and the power cord. Then hold down the power button for 60 seconds, this will drain any excess power in the unit then start by plugging in the power cord first and try starting up the laptop. Then try it with the battery.

Are the Num and Caps Lock key flashing at all? If so how many times? Do you hear the fans turning on at all? It will be hard to diagnose this issue without the laptop turning on.

What is your product number? What is your operating system?

My new HP Chromebook 11 will not turn on.  The charging light will not turn on and there is no response to pushing and holding the power button.  I don't know if the battery was low prior to this problem, but the charging light will not turn on even after hours of charging and trying a hard reboot will not work either.  I have read multiple posts about this problem but none have answered this question consistently or correctly for my problem. Things I have tried: Replacing the recalled charger - checkLetting it sit charging for over four hours - checkTrying multiple chargers of varying voltage - checkTrying a hard reboot by pressing down and holding the refresh and power buttons together - checkAnd multiple other key combinations, including holding down the power button while removing and replacing the charger - check None of the above have produced ANY results.  Any ideas on how to fix the problem?  There is no visible battery pack, so I can't simply remove that which often works for other notebooks. Thanks in advance to anyone more tech savvy than me who has any suggestions. HI jaymae, Welcome to the HP forum!  I understand that your Chromebook 11 will not power on.   When you try to power it on, do you see a light in the back where the power is connected? Do you hear any mechanical noises ( iE  fan spinning,HDD spinning). If yes I would try this  Computer Does Not Power on After Software Update (Chrome OS).  If you have no mechanical noises at all, I would contact Chrome support. There should be a listing in  the documentation that came with the computer. This will provide the best contact information for your system.  If you are unable to locate it, here is a general link for Chrome Support.  Please let me know the results.

Anyway, the last time I used this laptop was on Thursday. I used it to quickly email something to the desktop I was using. I noticed it had around 10% battery left, so I planned on charging it later that day.

I got caught up with some other school work and did not touch my laptop until Friday morning. I pressed the power button, but it did not turn on. This was not surprising, since I figured the battery had run out since the previous day. I plugged it in but immediately noticed that something was wrong. The Power/Charging LED did not turn on. The laptop does not POST, and it does not beep! The fans do not start up, and the screen does not even flicker. It is exactly as if the battery is not there. The charger and the outlet work fine, as they have been tested with another Lenovo laptop.

My laptop keeps shutting down and then rebooting, it has been happening a lot. A few days ago it just shut down, while it was charging and it would not turn back on. It still won't. I lost the original charger, but I'm using a charger that fits it. I have been charging it for a day or two and it won't turn on! I need my laptop and I can't really afford to buy a new battery, I heard they are really expensive. My laptop is an Acer, Aspire 5742 series. Please help. ):

A:My laptop wont turn on or charge

If you don't have the original charger and you are using a charger not designed for your laptop voltage, amps and watts you most likely damaged your laptop. (Capacitor or resistor on the motherboard).

Hello,My laptop said 7% left of battery so I stood up and got the charger when I came back the laptop was off and I tried turning it back on and it wouldn't also the charging light doesn't turn on ! Please HELP!! It was raining and thundering.
Before that happened I downloaded a file called slenderman and deleted it but it's still in my recycling bin did the file do anything??

A:Sony Laptop won't turn on or charge

Hello DessyQueenz,

If I am thinking of the same thing, slenderman is a video game based off of an old video series from YouTube, not anything malicious. Does that sound familiar? If so, don't worry about that.

However, the thunderstorm part is important. Your laptop may have prematurely shut down due to the thunderstorm and there's some sort of electrical damage now. Whether it's to the motherboard itself or another component, etc.

I would recommend contacting the manufacturer of the laptop and telling them your laptop suffered storm damage and can no longer turn on.

Regards,

Patrick

I have already tried the solution in the other post but did not work. My laptop was working fine but then one day would not turn on or charge. The indicator light next to the power button never lights up now and neither the power or novo button work. I have tried holding the power while it was unplugged and charging but did not work.

I've had my laptop plugged in for a while now and it won't turn on. When I plug it up the light beside the charger turns white for a few seconds and then turns red.Any suggestions?

A:HP 2000 won't turn on/charge when plugged in

Hey Ctfields,  I'm sorry you're running into this issue. If the light is turning solid red/amber and not blinking, that means it is charging the battery.  What happens when you press the Power button? Does the light on it come on at all, blink or remain on? Do you hear any spinning sounds from the fan and/or drives in the computer? Do you see any image on the screen, whether it is just an HP logo or a black screen with a blinking cursor or anything at all? Do you hear Windows' startup sounds? Do you see the Caps/Num lock lights blinking? If so, please let me know how many times it blinks.  I would suggest trying a hard reset, if you haven't already. A hard reset will drain all of the residual electricity out of the unit and give it a clean boot state. This can solve a lot of mysterious no-boot situations. 1. Disconnect the AC Adapter and battery.2. Press and hold the Power button for about 10 seconds, then release.3. Reinsert the battery and AC Adapter.4. Press the Power button to turn the computer on.

I was using my Lenovo 3 11 last night.  battery got low, so I plugged it in.  It wasn't charging.  Then it died and it won't charge at all.  I can't turn it on at all.  I'm sure power cord is fine.  I haven't had any problems at all with the power cord.  What can I do?  I've only had it for about 6 months.

I've had this laptop for 9 months, never had a problem. Earlier the battery went down to 7% so I grabbed my charger to plug it in but as soon as I plugged the charger in, the laptop just swithched off. It didn't shut down or anything, it just switch off. I've now had the charger plugged in for 3 hours and the charging light hasn't turned on and the laptop won't turn on at all. I've tried changing the fuse of the charger and even taking the battery out and putting it back in again but nothing has worked. Please help! :/

A:Lenovo z50-70 Laptop won't turn on or charge?

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Have you tried clearing the CMOS to see if it will help resolve the problem ?  Just follow this procedure.....

1. Unplug the charger / adapter. 2. Remove the battery. 3. Press and hold the Power Button for 15 seconds. 4. Re-install the battery, plug in the charger / adapter if needed and power up the system to see if the problem was resolved.

If that doesn't resolve the problem then I recommend you contact Lenovo Support for warranty service.

Hi,

I'm having a common issue I would say. Last time I used my laptop was this afternoon to watch a short clip on youtube, I turned it off right after and I remember it was at 17%, although I have the power button to shut down right away. A few hours ago, I decided to turn it and and surprised I noticed it didn't turn on. I tried to plug my A/C adapter to charge it a couple of minute but the lightning light didn't even show up. I've google'd around and found a way to hard reset it ( Remove the battery/adapter/ hold the power button 30 sec) no success still. I'm wondering if it's either the adapter or the battery is dead, as I don't have any spare of both right now is there a way to confirm it?

Thanks.

A:Laptop doesn't turn on/charge anymore

Hi

There's usually a small light on the power adaptor... is it on? If not, it's probably dead. Try another main lead.
If the light is on, remove the battery from the laptop and connect the power adaptor. Does the laptop turn on?
If not, try the reset again.

I call acer again they told me that i could send the chromebook back but it could be a possibility that i could pay for anything they fix which i think is not fair cause i have a year guarranty, and it was about three months that i have bought it. so before sending the chromebook i tried to plug it in to see if it would work and to my surprised the charging led turn on and minutes later the chromebook turn on and it was charging fine. my happiness didnt last long cause three days later it did the same thing it wont turn on or charge again. A:i have a acer c720 it wont charge or turn on

vira,

Sorry to hear that you are having charging issues. I'd like to clarify a few things about your post, to make sure I understand what you are trying to explain.

"...I call acer customer servise but they say the didnt know what it was so they send a new charge to see if that was the proble but it wasnt."

How was the determination made that this wouldn't fix the problem?

"I call acer again they told me that i could send the chromebook back but it could be a possibility that i could pay for anything they fix which i think is not fair cause i have a year guarranty, and it was about three months that i have bought it."

The technician you spoke with was probably just giving the standard disclaimer, but they also give the same disclaimer if the description of the problem sounds like it might be something that is outside of the stadard manufacturer's warranty.

"so before sending the chromebook i tried to plug it in to see if it would work and to my surprised the charging led turn on and minutes later the chromebook turn on and it was charging fine. my happiness didnt last long cause three days later it did the same thing it wont turn on or charge again."

This sounds like a little bit of charge left in the battery, not an issue fixing itself unfortunately.

It sounds to me like there is a charging problem, which based on your post here doesn't sound like anything that is outside of the standard manufacturer's warranty. I'd love to see if I c... Read more

Sorry if this is posted in the wrong spot, I'm new. I have an Acer Aspire 7736Z-4088 laptop. I do not remember the year it was purchased, but it has been a few years. This laptop and I have a love-hate relationship with each other. The laptop has sat idle for months because it stopped charging and I could no longer turn it on because the battery was dead. It has stopped charing before and I left it for months until it randomly decided to start charging again. Before it stopped charging the most recent time, the laptop would only charge if the charging cable was in a certain position. The charger I am using is a Targus charger. When plugged into an outlet, the charger light turns on, however when plugged into the laptop, nothing. Is my laptop battery completely useless and needs to be replaced? Or is it something to do with the charger or charging pin?

This is the second time I am facing this issue. First time last year Lenovo support guy came in anc changed the motherboard. It worked for a year and again now same problem. My G5070 is not charging with battery plugged it.I tried the battery drain method, it worked for 2-3 times but now it is also not working. It is not under warranty now. If lenovo knows that there is a problem with this series, why not to roll out a permanent solution. I have been using Lenovo phones, and infact I bought G5080 also, but this problem is breaking my brand trust.I dont know what to do. DOnt want to spend money to go to service center and pay for it, which not even customers fault. Its manufacturing defect, either of the motherboard or battery.

If the battery was severely depleted it can take a good 2-3 hours of the vibrating before it actually starts up. Just leave plugged in using a wall adapter (not computer)

My laptop is pretty new, about 1 year old. I usually unplug my laptop when I go to sleep, and tonight, when I tried turning it on, it didn't start. So I thought the battery had gone out, and I plugged it in, and yet it still didn't turn on. What I also noticed was that the front charge light also didn't turn on. I tried my laptop with my other gateway charger and still no use. I don't know what happened, but how do I fix this? Is there even an identifiable problem? I've looked at countless other posts, and did what they have told me, with taking out the battery and clicking the power button, such and such.

Hi guys,

I have a laptop I'm working on that will not turn on/ charge. I've tried a different adapter to no avail. I've also taken a battery from an equally rated Dell Inspiron (different model) laptop and it does not turn on with that either.

I've replaced the charging component off a motherboard before but this one is different as it is not simply a connector that goes from the charging outlet and plugs into the motherboard somewhere. It is just a piece that is soldered on and I can't tell what route it's taking.

I've tested the charger using a multimeter and it outputs ~ 19.5v so it should be fine. Any ideas?

EDIT: After doing some research online, I found that the center pin of the charger 'port' (on motherboard) sometimes goes in. Has anyone replaced one of these? If so, do you just unsolder it and solder in the new one? Someone mentioned putting some solder in the center and that fixes it?

A:Solved: Dell Inspiron E1505 Won't Charge / Turn on

Does anything at all happen when you try to power it up, any lights flashing or sounds ?

If it doesn't work with a charged up battery there is a hardware problem inside the laptop.
If it was just the power socket it should still work from battery power.

I would try charging the problem laptop's battery in the other laptop then try it in the problem laptop.

So one day I reset my phone due to my phone slowing down, and it would not turn on.
For info purposes I have a Lumia 640 updated to win 10 (originally 8.1)
After this I put it on the charger, it would load the Microsoft logo. then go to the charging screen with plug icon.
This is odd due to being at 80℅ of battery before I rebooted. Often it'll sit there with no result, sometimes it'll reboot multiple times.
If I remove the charger the phone instantly turns off. This has been going on for 5 days. Yesterday when I plugged the phone in it went back to tiles, but when I removed the battery to put my sim back in the issue came back. It also showed 72℅ charged so can't be the battery, and I don't know how that happened.
Windows recovery tool can't see the device and when I choose the find option the fix won't get to the phone. When I plug my Lumia via USB it reboots over and over and disconnects over and over as my computer keeps making the USB sound. The only time this doesn't happen is if i hold volume up or down when I plug it, sometimes, and that just freezes it on the ms logo. When I continue from there the phone will reboot as the installation is loading.
The issue is clearly not the battery. As it's 70℅ or so, yet Iget the 0 charge icon and the phone won't turn on outside the charger.
I have no clue what the solution to this problem is.

My fathers HP Envy M6 will not turn on, or charge.   I have the same computer, so I can troubleshoot a few things using mine.  From swapping the simple parts around, I can tell that the battery and charger is still functioning properly.  When plugged in, there is no charge light.  When my good, fully charged battery is put into his computer, it doesn't turn on.  It seems to be compeltely dead. I have tried the reset where you remove the battery, hold the power button for a minute, plug in the power cord and push the power button....it didn't work.  I understand there is a seperate circuit for the power cord.  If this is defective, would it only be charging that is affected?  I put a known fully charged battery in, and still nothing, so if this circuit is defective, would the computer also be non functional on battery power? I'm looking for any suggestions that might help, or point to the defect.

I own an HP Envy TouchSmart 15 Notebook PC product number: E0K05UA#ABA and Model: 15-j053cl

I had a couple plastic screw inserts that hold the right side hinge to the top cover of the laptop break due to very high strength of the hinges which caused the top cover of the laptop to pry apart from the base enclosure when opened (a problem many owners of this laptop model have had). Since I was out of warranty I ordered a replacement on Ebay using the correct part number 720570-001 and disassembled my laptop to make the repairs and loosen the hinges while I was at it. I swapped out all parts being careful to note where and how plugs and ribbons were connected so I could put it back together correctly. Now after having it reassembled it will not turn on.

I get a white LED light to turn on when I plug in the power cord AC adapter (should be amber/orange in color to signify it is charging the battery) but no other sounds lights or signs of life. I have attempted to remove the battery and power cord, pressed the power button for 8-30 seconds to drain power and do a reset and then try to power up with plugging in the power cord but it won’t turn on. I also tried to power up by removing one part at a time including the hard drive, two RAM sticks, and wireless card but still not able to turn on. Do you have any ideas for what may be wrong or steps I can take to troubleshoot? Is this possible a mother board issue? Everything was working fine before embarking on this r... Read more

Hi, it seems that I keep having problems with my HP envy m6 notebook PC (windows 8). I have had this computer for 2 years and it keeps breaking down on me! I was using it this morning around 9:30 AM, and it was running fine, and it was charged. I turned the computer off, then headed to my class. Once I got out of class I went to turn on my computer and it would not turn on! I tried taking out my battery and putting it back in and turning it on, taking the battery out completely and turn it on with the charger hooked up, I even took out the battery, unplugged it and pressed the power button for a minute then put the battery and charger back in and tried turning it on and still nothing! This is very frusterating as I am a college student and I need this laptop for classes and I can't afford to have my computer break down on me anymore! Will someone please help me?! P.S. My led light when my charger was plugged in was not turning on either, and the power adaptor was not warm when plugged in, I don't know if this is one of the reasons why my computer will not turn on.

The HP ENVY x2 Detachable PC 15 will no turn on. Holding the Power button for 10 seconds produces a whirring sound but does not turn the tablet back on. The AC adapter light is white when the power cord is turned on. The Power Light on the opposite side is off. What else can I try?

Unable to find where or how I can turn off the internal speakers in my new HP Envy 23.

A:How do i turn off the Internal speakers on my HP ENVY 23-d02...

Hi, The answer to your question depends on your reasons for wanting to turn off the speakers.  Recently, I noticed that when I plugged my headphones into the headphone output on the Envy 23 I use at work, the music would still play through speakers, annoying my co-workers. I still wanted to be able to listen through headphones, so I plugged the headphones into the speaker output on the back of the computer. Now the music only plays through the headphones. When the compter is viewed from behind, the output is probably near the lower-right corner. It looks just like your headphone output, but has a little icon that looks a little bit like this:(((.))) To listen to your headphones without the speakers playing, plug your headphones into that speaker output on the back of the computer. If, on the other hand, you want to completely shut your speakers down, try this (be warned: this will shut your headphones down as well): Press the Windows + W keys, and type Sound into the search field.Select Sound from the search results. On the Playback tab of the Sound window, double-click Speakers / Headphones. On the General tab of Speakers / Headphones Properties, select Don't use this device (disable) from the Device usage drop-down near the bottom of the window.Click OK

I have an envy m6 touchscreen that is giving me problems that i can't solve. It has been great up until recently. i was using my laptop last nite when suddenly it turned off but i didn't think that the battery shoukd have been dead yet. its acting as if the bat is empty and plugging it in just turn on the orange led by the power plug. when i press the power button it flashes for a second but the screen does nothing and it doesn't actually turn on.I'm using my phone to attempt to find a solution atm which is very frustrating. adding to the stress is the fact that i have school work projects and a midterm project on it that I need to finish.Almost forgot to mention it started doing a few other odd things over the last week such as the touchscreen going nuts registering phantom touches endlessly until i close/hibernate/shutdown it.

Hi, I have recently purchase (5 days ago) a HP Envy 15-J151SA, but its started to play up already. I had used my laptop yesterday at uni and had run the battery down to about 15%, so I plugged the power pack in as normal and charged the laptop to 100%. When I came to unplug the charger, the laptop just instantly turned off without warning. I thought this was very odd until I tried to turn the laptop back on to no response at all, no lights, no flashing, no nothing. I thought I'd plug the charger back in again and as soon as I plugged the charger in the light on the power button flashed oncw and then when pressed the laptop loads as if nothing had happened. Obviously when I load up apps such the internet and MS Word it says it wasn't closed properly and asks if I want to restore where I left it at. I have looked at other forums who have suggested battery tests (which come back as ok) and tries to recalibrate the battery but this hasn't solved anything, I have tried use the reset function (hold power and the beats button) but I don't have a beats button. It is all up to date with Windows and HP updates.Obviously being a student I paid good money for this laptop and haven't got the time to be messing around taking back to PCWorld where I bought it from.Any help will be appreciated, Thanks Spudy101

So the power button on my HP detached from the laptop. Long story short, I was boarding back home and hit a rock and fell forward therefore breaking the corner of the power button and shatter the touchscreen. I was still workin fine, except the fact that the screen was shattered and the power chip was dangling out of the laptop. It survived a few weeks before the power chip fell out. I couldnt find the time to go to a store to see what they could do. the only thing keeping it alive was the charging power but I fell asleep with the laptop on. Lucky me. The laptop was working perfectly. I've had it for some time right now. I have ALOT of important files and documents. I was wondering if there was a short-cut or a way I can get my Laptop on without using the power button. I just want to back-up everything i have in the laptop and make a desicion of getting a new one or fixing this one.

Hello,  This is my first time on this site and I have been having some trouble with my computer.FIrst of all, my computer is the HP Envy 23 Touchsmart PC and its roughly around 3-4 years old. For all this time, it has been working fine without any problems, but one day I was playing a game on my computer and it randomly shut down. At first, I thought I accidentally kicked a cord, so I made sure every cord was in their sockets tightly. Thinking it was a loose cord that caused it to shut down, I tried to turn it on again. Unfortunately, there was no luck.   In furthur investigation on my computer, I noticed my power cord was making a small beeping/chirping noise every 2-3 seconds with its green light flashing on and off in sync with the green light. What I found interesting was when I unplugged the power cord from the computer, the green light would actually stay solid without it blinking or making any noise. When i replug it back in, it continues to blink and make the small beeping noise again. As a computer amateur, I am afraid to open my computer up and try to fix the problem myself. And I was also hoping for some solutions here on this site before bringing it into a store to get it fixed.  I also updated my computer to Windows 10 if any of that matters. Thank you for your time!

Soooo I bought this beast laptop a few months ago, worled perfectly, and now it won't turn on for no reason. Tried everything including the hold the button trick and everything, but my lcd indicating that the laptop is charging doesn't even light up. My outlets are perfectly outputting power, so there is no issue there but laptop just sits there literally doing nothing.

I know this has started to be covered already but the discussion was never finished. This was the original post: I have discovered that the keyboard backlighting won't turn off. The backlight on/off key is labeled as F5. I press it, but nothing happens. I've also tried pressing fn+f5, but that doesn't do anything either. I had been leaving the backlight on, but now I want it to only be on when I press the f5 key. Why won't the backlight turn off? I am having the exact same issue. I followed the instrustions of the helper, which were: Can you please get to the Desktop Screen of Windows by pressing the Windows Key and ?D? keys together and then press the F5 key? As you might know, F5 is used for refreshing a Window/Page. Do you see the Desktop Icons getting refreshed? This is to make sure that the F5 key is working or not?If you got confused with that suggestion, please open MS Word and then press the keys ?Fn? and ?F5? together and let me know whether you get the ?Find and replace? Window? I didn't understand the first part, but the second part I got. I opened Word and pressed Fn and F5 together and can confirm that the 'Find and Replace window appeared. However, I have no idea what to do from here or how to fix the problem, please help me. Also bear in mind please that I am 16 years old and know pretty much nothing about computers. Also, I only got this laptop for Christmas 2015 and am not very familiar with everything yet.

I have an HP Envy 15T and my right hinge just broke AGAIN.   I had it fixed by HP in March, 2015, and now about a year and a half later, the right hinge is broken again. As other people state, I am very careful with my computer.  Most of the time I leave it sitting on the desk, open, and don't move it much, but sometimes I have to close the display lid and put it in the case to go with me, and today I heard the plastic break inside, the screw is gone, and when slowly closing the display the case pops open at the hinge.  A piece of black plastic came out when I turned the laptop sideways.  Obviously a design flaw, the weight of the screen and hinges being held together by a tiny plaster piece. I wish HP would let me upgrade to another type of computer as this one is obviously going to continue breaking even with my careful use of the laptop. Looking for any and all assistance. Thank you, Mark

The other day I decided to turn my envy off for the first time in roughly a week. I usually just leave it on, plugged into the charger, putting it into sleep mode when im not using it. For some reason, ever since then I have not been able to turn it back on. Whenever I press the power button, The power light blinks. The pattern is a single short blink every 3-5 seconds. This continues until I take the battery out. Sometimes, if I leave it be for a day or so, I am able to get the computer to turn on, but It will not boot. I can hear the fan going, see the lights turn on as they are supposed to, however the screen remains black. I am under the impression that this either a hardware issue, or the CPU is just toast. either of which would suck. Normally I would take to a computer shop and have them look at it, but right now I'm serving in Iraq, so im SOL. And yes, I have tried everything under the sun to get it running. I have taken the battery out and left it out for an extended period, tried turning it on with and without the ac adapter plugged in, tried to perform a hard reset, and a combination of all of them.

Last thing to try is remove the cmos (RTC) battery overnight, put it back in, if you get the bios post screen immediately enter the bios and set the date and time (before windows loads)  If you get it working, download the latest bios and install it. Then the latest grahics driver. Service manual for the 15t-1200

Before bios and OS upgrades the laptop would auto disable the main keyboard when rotated 360 deg for flat touch mode. It will no longer do this creating a problem when in touchpad mode. No settings seem to change this.

My Laptop was working fine. It was plugged in as to charge the battery. I went to bed, got up the next day to use my laptop. I pushed the power button and nothing happens. I made sure the battery was seated correctly and also the plug into the laptop and wall. I also tryed diffrent outlets in my home and nothing.

The only thing I ca tell you is that when I press the power button the light next to the power input blinks (3) times and then stops. Nothing more happens. That is all the information I can provide.

So can you please help me find a solution? My warranty has since expired.

A:My Envy Touchscreen M7-k111dx Laptop will not turn on.

Visruth,       I went and looked in the end of the power connector where it connects into the computer, and found the center pin on the power adapter was bent to oneside and this prevented it from seating correctly within the laptop.     I used a flat screw driver from an Eye Glass repair kit and bent it back to the middle.   Vala!     Everything is working fine, computer turned on and battery is charging.     I want to thank you for research and suggestions into my search for answers.    V/R    Scott
